i feel like i could talk about rwby's ost for HOURS. not even like, how the lyrics represent a character and/or their situation (thats a whole other post) but how everyone composing them NEVER MISSES!! every song is just absolute banger after banger ranging from full on songs with vocals by casey lee williams to just scores that are used on the episodes of every volume (that you can just listen to!! and i think that rules.) every song in every volume hits the soft spot in my brain that makes me smile (bmblb from vol4), makes me cry (forever fall from vol6) and gets super fuckin hyped n pumped up (die from vol2, especially the part with casey just full on screaming the lyrics) and to be honest theres a lot of songs in the albums that fit those 3 criterias but those are the ones i could remember as of late i also love how much the casey has evolved as a singer (i've heard that she's been singing for RvB since she was like,6) from vol1 where she was, i think, 12 and her voice was plenty AWESOME to listen to already, then came vol8 and shit went DOWN. the opening kicking off with "we said GOOODBYYEEE" goes so goddamn hard its unreal. every opening in this series goes incredibly CRAZY and its not even funny like every second of the songs in the series are so damn well composed with the catchiest beats and best lyrics ever (specifically lamar hall, he raps so damn fast in big metal shoe, vol6) by the way, jeff HOWLING in some songs he is wonderful, like caffeine (vol2) or the vol3 opening. hell, songs where its just him doing the vocals are incredible too even if there arent that many, like bad luck charm in vol4 orr not fall in love with you in vol3! ill be honest, i dunno who composed what and who did this n that but im ASSUMING most of the guitar parts were just jeff, like the swell and heavy guitar in touch the sky, vol7, that ones gives me summer (not the character) vibes and it slaps. i love the solos sprinkled around the songs as well and im glad to see them still present and incredible as always in the vol9. (RED LIKE ROSES PART 3!! absolute PEAK. i listened to it for like 3 seconds on borrowed earbuds and it felt like heaven on my ears) the whole of volume 9 was incredible too, checkmate is incredible with the flow of the lyrics and the doots and the BASS, oh my god the bass. its really cool knowing martin de lima, from ok goodnight (the band casey sings in!! check them out, i need to listen to more of their songs aswell, awake sounds HEAVY and im all for it) composed some of the scores for vol9 and i hope there'll be more of ok goodnight in future volumes (greenlight vol10) didnt expect to have written so damn much but thats ok. what im saying is : music goes hard, goes cool and makes me happy. hope it makes you happy too :)

dramas & moves *spoilers ahead*.

i am watching all of his dramas, he is not only incredibly handsome but can seriously become whoever he wants. he plays dynamic characters that bring out different sides of him as an actor and i appreciate that. I. AM. IN. LOVE. okay now on to the review. i liked this drama, it was an interesting concept, and i dont know if i ever got completely on board because he was a robot, and it wasn't like with the other robot drama where we knew she wasn't an actual robot but he was legit a robot and ya know she is human sooo...yeah. never quite got on board. towards the end when everything with ma wong-joon was coming out i kinda wanted them to end up back together and i got on that ship rather than the she doesn't need a man at the moment ship. but i really liked this one, and i watched it live and it was pretty great. one of my fave moments:

wong-joon: right now dada might need you, but only humans can become friends or lovers with other humans.

yeong-goo: my girlfirned said she likes me. i like her too. we stay together because we like each other, not because we need each other. just like you and dada did before. but unlike you, we won't break up, since my heart that loves her won't change. 

literally mic drop and wong-joon needed major ice for that burn. of course this was all before we knew his true desires but in the moment watching this drama i was like dang man you're not holding back. 

i would give it a 6.5 out of 10.

search WWW. this drama was great, i love these kinda of work place dramas. unexpected first episode with them ending up together, and almost didn't want to keep watching because i was like dang if this is the first episode will it be too much later on, but all was well. i thoroughly enjoyed this one. the fact that it follows three bad butt ladies was incredible. i enjoyed everyone’s storyline, especially cha hyun and ji-hwan’s because come on, that fact that she loves dramas and ends up with the main lead. i couldn't contain my excitement when they developed feelings for each other. they were absolutely precious from beginning to end. the relationships that ta-mi had with her coworkers was golden and i loved how she was able to bring the unexpected talented from unicon to barro. let’s talk about our boo mo-gun. his story was so dynamic and unexpected. i loved how he cared for ta-mi without being too much, but when he left for australia it broke my heart, but then he came back later once everyone was settled, and ta-mi had found herself. i liked it. it was a good drama. i would rate it an 8.5 out of 10. cutest side story award goes to you-jin for hacking all of the traffic lights in seoul to have an afternoon walk with her boo in the highschool flashback. also this OST has been on repeat. “milky way between us” and “scent”.

there were so many hilarious moments. these two being some of them.

the secret life of my secretary. i love this man, seriously the reason i clicked on this drama and it did not disappoint. did not appreciate the deception at all and no excuses bc he was incredibly vulnerable and she knew this. he would have fallen for her anyway bc he had been wavering previously and there was no reason for her to do that to him. i hope others agree that she was completely out of line. but besides that central flaw, all the characters were dynamic and i was obsessed with our second leads bc they were adorable. i give it a 8.4 out of 10.

ive been thinking a little more on it and i think im coming to a pretty solid foundation on what i want my jojosona and stand to be

my jojosonas name is “Gently Johnny”, off the wicker man ost. i thought itd be perfect since My Name Is Johnny and the wicker man movie is heavily (and somewhat darkly) religiously themed. the wicker man itself could be a good metaphor for his stand, as the worshipers pledge such great devotion and sacrifice to a god that may never answer them.

i havent decided on his stands name yet, but im trying to decide between “Pistol Dance”, a song by my favourite band, blackbird raum, that has the EXACT fucking aesthetic and vibe this stand has, or “Thrill Kill Kult”, after another band i love that deals with themes of sex, drugs, and satanism. tkks name definitely fits the stand a lot better than pistol dance, since it finds its power within the worship and belief of a cult, making the cult itself an extension of the stand, but aaaaaaaaa pistol dance as a song is perfect. plus ive got a very deep connection with blackbird raum already so its a lot more personal to me. and maybe the name could even be a metaphor for the kind of relationship victims have with the stand? like the weird and high stakes dance people have with their chosen god(s). especially since pistol dance quite Literally promotes cultism so it really is a dangerous game to play. so i guess for the sake of this post ill call it pistol dance

that all being said, heres what ive got in mind so far for what pistol dance actually IS:

pistol dance, at its basics, is a stand that gives people that weird religious ecstasy you get when youre going wild at church feeling the holy spirit or at a bonfire in the woods dancing naked with a crowd of your fellow dionysian followers or simply when you just get really pumped up with “I LOVE MY GOD!!”. thats pretty much it as far as what it Does as an ability. it makes you love it. it makes you want to serve it. it makes you believe in its power and that its blessings are real, when in reality youre simply assigning it responsibility for the things that happen in your life anyway. it doesnt actually give blessings or do jack shit to you. it just gives you a sense of religion.

now you might think “okay well thats kinda lame like what can you do with that?? whos to say it wont just make a hellenic more devout or an atheist question themselves? how will they know that the stand is the source of this and to join the Pistol Dance Cult????”

well my dear friend thats where gently johnny comes in. pistol dance is EXTREMELY dependent on the actions of its user to even work well. but to preface this, its important to know that gently johnny Does Not Know What Stands Are. he doesnt know pistol dance is a stand. hes just as much of a victim of it as anyone else. essentially what happened was pistol dance, like many other stands, just appeared before him one day after he woke up from being shot with an arrow. he regains consciousness and sees this being before him, having no other idea what it could be than a spirit, and is filled with so many emotions at once he breaks down crying. in that moment, he calls it his god. what else would make him feel like that? how else would he have survived the arrow? it was a miracle. and he immediately devoted his life to it.

so now gently johnny is pistol dances priest. he becomes a soapbox preacher, and through his stands presence, he actually does have the air of a dude that knows what hes talking about. or at least that of one that gives him a semidivine vibe, like he really is a Man Of God, to some degree. and some grow curious, some dont. pistol dance is mostly a subconscious stand that takes affect depending on how well johnny himself Feels It, since he doesnt know he can control it at all. so the more hes into it the better pistol dance works.

the part in which it is a conscious ability, however, comes from the stands own sentience. it doesnt do it often (because when have gods ever been there every single time you asked Them to be am i right fellas), but sometimes itll take it upon itself to select someone for their own Religious Feelings, or appear to remind gently johnny of just what this all means and what he needs to do.

eventually, pistol dance has a group of followers. a religion solidly forms around this entity only gently johnny can see, making him an intermediate between man and god, and these worshipers devote themselves to their deity. they form what you could very easily call a cult. and what better way to bring a cult together than a woodland ritual among fire in the dead of the night?

just like televangelists giving healing on tv, the mood is set, the faithful are smiling and crying, a man is shouting, praise and selves are offered up to god, and nothing works. only in that stand powered adrenaline do you think it does, because these are the nights pistol dance exists for. this is when its at its best. i honestly have no idea what its motivation for all of this is gonna be, since it does have to reflect its stand user in some way. and because its my jojosona i dont know that i wanna like. make pistol dance a Bad Guy. but i think itd just be fun to have all this intricate bullshit and planning and extremely personal and serious religious shit ultimately lead up to “religion may be what separates a man from beast, but what better way to bring out the beast within man?”. pistol dance has reverted you to going apeshit and naked in the woods, relying on something much bigger than you to survive. it has made you a true animal again. and whether thats a good thing or a bad thing is up to you.

theres a lot of commentary i could do about this but thats an essay for a version of me that did Not stay up til five am. and this obviously isnt the Final Draft im still just fucking around here trying to find something that makes sense. some parts will need to be filled in and clarified and combed out and changed but yeah uhhhhhh. thats gently johnny and his stand pistol dance!!

tbh... revali’s theme, actually. i dont like revali all that much but his theme is so so beautiful i love it so much. i dont think i really realized how much i love his theme until just about right now, actually. i also love sidon’s theme, but i think that revali’s is actually my favorite.

hmm.... i think the hyrule castle interior, honestly. though the stables theme is also really up there. hyrule castle is just really nice and i love the atmosphere it has, but also the stables just... makes me feel safe its always so nice to hear it off in the distance when playing. oh and also the flight range... its so pretty. ohhh and the sheikah tower theme.... this is so hard so many areas of the game are so good. 

Fav Battle Theme

tbh... i think the talus battle theme! idk its just really good ghdsgk i really think that it really perfectly captures fighting just a big rock + i love the mix of the instruments that are playing + i dont hear it too often. i really like the guardian battle theme, too, though, but i think that the talus battle theme is slightly better because idk.. it doesnt feel as... empty as the middle part of the guardian battle theme? yeah. 

WAIT I FORGOT ABOUT THE MOLDUGA THEME. ITS THAT ONE DEFINITELY. ive listened to this one so so much its soooo so good. ESPECIALLY the second half. i love those string instruments.

absolutely divine beast vah ruta’s theme... vah medoh’s comes in second but something about vah ruta’s has just really stuck with me. its just so so so beautiful. i think its because it really reminds me of the first time i was doing the quest.. idk the music just perfectly captures the moment.

its really really hard to choose because i love literally everything else ive mentioned, but i think its the dragon’s theme. like... literally everything about that song is so good, and hearing it in-game... its just really so good.

A song that makes you sad: i think ive said this multiple times before but somnus ultima makes me physically ache. there are a lot of sad pieces in ffxv but somnus ultima (especially when listening to it in playlist order, so right after the final boss themes and dawn and right before dewdrops at dawn) fucking destroys me every time

3.) Three songs you were recently obsessed with:

“Ta ga Tame no Sekai” --- Shigaki AkikoI’ve actually been picturing this as an OP to one of my longer works whenever I listen to it. I put it to Paradigm Shift most often, though it would probably fit the Keitor Big Bang fic I’m writing a bit better. Either way, though, it has that sweeping, epic feel that I love.

“Ichirin no Hana” --- HIGH and MIGHTY COLORThis was actually a re-discovery; I’ve known and loved this song since high school, but somehow I lost it over the years and only recently acquired it again. Still know all the words, too. ♥ (Maybe I’ll sing it in karaoke next month . . .)

“Open Your Eyes” --- Snow PatrolI wouldn’t say I’ve necessarily been obsessed with this one recently, but I refuse to skip it every time it comes up, and I still consider it to be the quintessential happy!Keitor song. So I still love it a lot.

11.) Three favourite songs from movie or TV series soundtrack:

“Toothless Found” (How to Train Your Dragon 2) --- John PowellWords honestly can’t describe how perfect this track is. The chorus in the beginning, and how the music segues into a slow, emotional rendition of the second movie’s leitmotif as Hiccup tries desperately to break through the Bewilderbeast’s control to get his platonic soulmate back . . . the way the leitmotif swells triumphantly (that chorus returning!) as he succeeds, and they both go plummeting toward the ocean, Hiccup throwing himself down after Toothless . . . the percussion beats as Hiccup finally makes it onto Toothless’ back and they prepare their counterattack (along with the way the second movie’s leitmotif is used again, agh) . . . and the way the first movie’s leitmotif plays at the end as they succeed in knocking Drago’s staff away from him . . . on a soundtrack that is honestly incredible with pretty much every track, this one in particular stands out. It makes me feel things every single time I listen. It’s perfect, 100/100.

“Battle Scars (Plugless Ver)” (Blue Exorcist) --- Sawano HiroyukiNot quite as epic, and possibly not even my favorite track on this honestly incredible OST, but definitely the one I’ve listened to most often recently and the one that I never skip. This song gets me pumped and is fun to sing, as a bonus, despite being written for Okumura Rin, it is the perfect song for Keith Kogane. The lyrics hit the mark on practically every beat; it’s incredible. 

“Trisha’s Lullaby” (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) --- Senju AkiraAgain, probably not my favorite song on this OST, but certainly one that makes my heart squeeze with emotion every time I hear it. It’s so beautiful, sad, heartwrenching and heartwarming in the same beat . . . and it really speaks to the heart of this show, so I have to give it a special mention here.

12.) Three favourite songs from video games:

I’ll have you know that this is probably the most difficult one, because there are so many that I want to list here (as in, probably upwards of ten from the Legend of Zelda series alone . . .). I’ll only list three, but bear in mind that there are plenty more that I would absolutely list as my favorites.

“My Half is Unknown” (Mystic Messenger) --- Flamming HeartIt should honestly be illegal for a visual novel dating sim made for cell phones to have an OST has phenomenal as Mystic Messenger does, but it’s not and so here we are. Honestly, so many tracks from Mystic Messenger could earn their place on this list, but I have to give it to “My Half is Unknown” for how heartbreakingly beautiful it is, especially with the way it builds up to the crescendo, beginning at 2:45. My heart.

“Don’t Speak Her Name” (Fire Emblem: Awakening) --- Kondo ReiApart from being a beautiful track, what’s notable about “Don’t Speak Her Name” is that it plays throughout the entire battle. It doesn’t break once, and it really adds to how frought with emotional tension that entire situation is---the grief, rage, misery, and pain of everyone involved. It’s a beautiful piece that perfectly encapsulates the moment and I will probably always love it.

“Sealed Vessel” (Hollow Knight) --- Christopher LarkinThis one is a new discovery (obviously, haha), and it’s possibly the newness of it that has me so grabbed by it, but it’s incredible. The way the music kicks in with an epic punch at 0:45, but especially the way it tapers off and switches to an agonized, slow, painful tempo at 2:15 as . . . well . . . it’s major spoilers, but let’s just say that at that part in the battle, I actually didn’t attack because I was so shocked and stricken with sadness at what I saw. The music matches it perfectly; it really is beautifully done.

And three honorable mentions because, honestly, I was very close to slotting these ones in instead:

“Hyrule Castle” (The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild) --- Kataoka ManakaThe entire Breath of the Wild soundtrack is amazing, and in fact I was originally going to list the “Main Theme” here for how beautiful it is at the start, and then for how it sweeps into a crescendo that takes my breath away every time at 1:12, but “Hyrule Castle” deserves the mention because of how incredible this track is for how many different important themes it incorporates into it. It has the standard Hyrule Castle music featured in several different games (A Link to the Past and Wind Waker to name a couple), “Zelda’s Lullaby,” “Ganon’s Theme,” “Song of the Hero,” and even “Ballad of the Wind Fish.” They’re all put together in one masterful medley, so it definitely deserves its mention here, even if I still adore the main theme as well.

“Overture” (Pokémon) --- Masuda JunichiLook, whatever my issues with Masuda right now, the fact remains that I pretty much burst into tears the second I hear this song start up. (I actually did cry when they started playing this during my live Symphonic Evolutions concert.) Words can’t really describe how many emotions this makes me feel; it’s the song that feels most like coming home, like it’s where I belong. It’s certainly worthy of an honorable mention, even before all the other incredible songs in this series.

“Resurrections” (Celeste) --- Lena RaineThis one amost replaced “Sealed Vessel.” Celeste has a great soundtrack in general, but I particularly love “Resurrections” for how much it incorporates. We have the nice, even, pretty tempo throughout the beginning as Madeline makes her way through, prior to releasing Badeline (Part of Her) from the mirror. Once Badeline has been released, and the true challenge starts, the music grows louder. It’s still not too frantic yet, as Madeline’s mental state hasn’t driven her to that point yet, but you can tell that things are harder now, they’ve gotten more real. (And it’s music to groove to, too; I love it.) And then, of course, there’s that switch at 4:26 to Badeline’s Theme as Madeline confronts her for the first time, and can I just say that I love that melody; it’s haunting, eerie, and emotionally wrought all at the same time. It perfectly encapsulates how Badeline represents Madeline’s insecurities and mental illness. And then, of course, the tempo picks right back up (with some build-up!) at 5:52 as Badeline begins outright attacking Madeline . . . god, this track is just so good! The whole OST is, really, but special mention goes to “Resurrections.” It’s no doubt my favorite.

My Top Ten Video Games of 2018

Well, here were are again, my friends. After the non stop roller coaster thrillride of VIDEO GAMES 2017, can 2018 live up to the hype??? I’m gonna go ahead and say no right off the bat, but while every single week wasn’t filled with a new incredible genre defining experience like last year, we still had some genuine certified bangers in the mix, many of which I think will remain important to me as the years go by. It should be noted this is the first year since 2014 where a Trails game hasn’t hit the market, so for the first time ever since I started writing these lists, a Trails game will not reign victorious at the end. Scandalous! Impossible!! Shit year tbh, but we’ll get by.

Outside of games this year is maybe the best year of my entire life?? I got out of a years long slump, started an actual genuine career path, and then somehow managed to fenegle falling in love into the whole mix. These lists have always come from some greater sense of yearning to reach out and communicating how I feel about things I love to anyone who will listen, but right now all I can think of is about how happy and lucky I am for my life to have taken the turns it did this year. 2019 is gonna have to try real hard to break my stride.

Anyway without further ado, here’s ten games that aren’t Trails of Cold Steel 3(WHEN??):

10. Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales

This one is only at the bottom of the list because I didn’t have time to finish it. I loved getting to jump into the world of the witcher again. The world is dark and gritty and the choice are morally grey and the writing is impeccable and gwent is even more fun to play as a main mechanic than it was in the Witcher 3 as a minigame. I can’t wait to dive back into this one come the new year.

9. Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology

One of the most well written and executed time-travel-based JRPGs I’ve ever played. It’s a story about trying to fix mistakes, about different perspectives trying to understand each other instead of fighting over differences.

It’s got an overall theme of realizing how important you can be to the world around you despite seeming insignificant that really resonated with me, an amazing cast of characters and it also just happens?? To be really fun to play??

8. The House in Fata Morgana: A Requiem for Innocence

That I didn’t play the first game the year it came out is a damn crime, this series of gothic tragedies has such special, meaningful and important themes of redemption and sacrifice and finding the people who will survive the world with you no matter what. It tackles mental illness, lgbt topics with an immense amount of respect and tells some of the most heart wrenchingly real and gutting stories, but it all culminates in the most viscerally satisfying way.

This sequel delves into one of the most unspoken parts of the original while also offering promising and hopeful glimpses into the future. It’s absolutely a must play if you in anyway liked the original.

7. Wandersong

Now here’s one that came absolutely out of nowhere. This game just oozes joy out of every pore. You play as a dandy bard who can only interact with the world via music trying to save it from being destroyed. Heavy themes of pacifism and the internal struggle of doing your best when you know for a fact your best won’t be good enough cover this thing like sprinkles on the most delicious and colorful donut.

Another thing I love is how every single chapter of this game plays differently, one will be a pirate adventure where you steer a ship with pirate shanties, the other will be a Majora's Mask still town sim, it goes on like this, and it never once gets boring. This game will make you smile the biggest smile from start to finish.

6. God of War

Remember Kratos?? He’s back, in open world action-RPG form. I sort of grew up with the original GoW trilogy and am of the opinion that they aged about as well as I did(which is fuckin not gracefully, teenager me was a fuckin mess). God of War is out of its edgy teenager phase now, and just barely squeaking out of its holier than thou college student phase into a game that actually has a few things to say, fun characters, an amazing world, and a paternal relationship that is kind of actually a joy to watch unfold despite everyone making fun of the game for it.

This game is like twice, maybe three times as long as the original trilogy which hilariously kind of makes those games feel like a prologue to this one. I suppose the real ironic thing is they kind of are?? They were shallow angry games with nothing to say but their existence created a character that, under the right light, under THIS light, could actually be extremely compelling and fun to watch grow alongside his boy. This series went from one I was glad to see gone to one I can’t wait to get more of.

5. Yakuza 6: The Song of Life/Yakuza Kiwami 2

It’s absolutely insane that Yakuza is popular now. I got into this series 10 years ago and at the time every single new yakuza release was a blessing and a curse; blessed because holy shit they actually put out a new Yakuza game and cursed because oh god it sold like shit and they probably won’t localize the next one why did they localize the zombie spin-off it almost killed the series nooooo don’t localize that give us the samurai games instead.

So anyway, this year I finally finished my journey playing through all 7 mainline Yakuza games. The journey of Kiryu Kazuma has come to an end and I have seen every step he’s taken. Yakuza 6 itself had kind of a really rough new engine that Kiwami 2 ended up refining, and from a gameplay perspective these games are basically the same, for the most part(Kiwami 2 is just better). Neither of these games come close to touching the masterful highs of Yakuza 0 but from a story perspective I think the respect and love this series has for its protagonist is unmatched, and while I was sad to see him go, I will never forget that big good crime boy and his whacky antics.

4. The Messenger

This game fucking rules, I really don’t know how to do it justice, I played it on a whim and fell in love with it for the time it took me to beat it in a way that I haven’t done with a game in a long time. The gameplay is fluid and fun, the writing is charming and legit hilarious at times and the soundtrack, oh baby the soundtrack, if this wasn’t a year where Celeste came out this game would win every single award for OST of the year, I would fight anyone who disagreed.

The main gimmick of this game once you reach the halfway point is being able to shift between the 8 bit past and the 16 bit future, and every time you do the music will warp to fit those aesthetics and the game does this so freaking seamlessly, it’s amazing. The final level in particular meshed the music so well with the narrative that I was like fist pumping the whole way through the final sequence of the game.

It rules extremely hard, play it. Yes, you, you reading this right now, play this game so these people will make more for me. Please?

3. La-Mulana 2: The 0th Body, The 9th Spirit

Chalk this one up for game of 2018 I most can’t wait to replay and do a bunch of quick runs of. The original La Mulana is one of my favorite games of all time and this sequel delivers more of all the stuff I love while streamlining a lot of the more obscure and obtuse solutions. The music, the bosses, the world, all of the best things about the first game were all just as on point in this one.

The game evokes a sense of mystery you can only really achieve in a sequel to a game like the original La Mulana by constantly making you question the lore you already knew from the original. This all culminates in a sidequest that for a game as inscrutable as opaque as LM2, I still ended up getting really really emotionally invested in.

I don’t think there will ever be a La Mulana 3, and if that’s the case I’ll be able to leave this series happy, these two games complete each other in such a huge way, and will remain some of my favorites for years to come.

2. Celeste

I swear to god, this game was my Game of the Year for 9 whole months. I have never in my life played a game with this much precision perfect game design. This is maybe the tightest most consistent feeling platformer of all time. It’s like basically perfect on a gameplay level. That it meshes it’s gameplay with it’s themes so well is what truly makes it stand out and transforms it into not only a viscerally satisfying, tough but fair game, but an emotionally resonant masterpiece that will stick with me for years to come.

Celeste is a game about climbing a mountain. Celeste is a game about overcoming depression and anxiety and learning to cope and better yourself. These things are not interchangeable, the challenges you face as a player in this game all tie in perfectly to the main character, Madeline’s struggle to just fight through her self doubt and self loathing. It’s an extremely real tale, despite how fantastical the visuals are. It’s a game about fighting and screaming and clawing at that fucking Mountain to give you a way to have your heart again, and it’s absolutely wonderful.

The game is difficult, but every personal triumph accompanies one in game, and it lets you truly feel the feelings the game is trying to evoke alongside it. This is the kind of game that only comes once or twice a decade. I’d be extremely surprised to see anything hit this level any time soon.

1. Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age

This is the gold standard for all JRPGs now as far as I'm concerned. There are series that go deeper, that go harder, that go all the way in with their music but no game out there exists that is so confidently just the classic all encompassing idea of a JRPG like this one. This game is pure comfort food, it knows exactly what it is and what it is is a fun heartwarming and charming classic JRPG “chosen one gets the cool sword and fights the dark lord” tale and damn it if it hasn’t been a while since we had just a good one of those.

Haha, just kidding.

A third of the way through, this game takes a dramatic shift and flips everything on its head in a way that hasn’t been really seen or executed this well since FF6. Suddenly the comfortable is taken away, the world is scary, bleak, and the themes you missed, that were simmering in the background since the start of the game start to boil over to the surface. The world is darker but the people in it are warmer, they hold themselves together until the day comes, and the game will find ways to make you cry you would never expect from a series this traditional. These themes all culminate in a super satisfying finale that, while not entirely happy, at least leaves the world in a better place than it was before, with it’s people that much closer.

Now what if I just didn’t write any of that and told you why I really love the game.

Credits roll, and the post game, that is to say, the final third of the game, begins. What if the shift never came, how would the world be different? How would these characters acrs resolved? Who would live? Who would die instead? What does this happening mean to the world? What does this new future hold?

In one simple moment, you answer all of those questions, and Dragon Quest XI becomes a prequel to Dragon Quest III (which was a prequel to DQ1 but that’s less important).

All of a sudden this entire series has lore, everything is connected in a way it had never been for 30 years, and it fits so seamlessly and perfectly that it could only have happened in a series like Dragon Quest, which has had the same writer across all 11 games. As a fan who had played all the available english games this was such an insane rewarding moment. I struggle to really compare it to anything else outside of maybe like…

Oh shit.

Other that that im pretty sure everyone was good! Tho... i forgot to finish Blackwalls quest before moving to trespasser in Falons file so hes..... sleeping....

22. Favorite DA2 party combo? Me, Anders, Carver, and Dog/Merril!! MY BABES. Sometimes ill swap Anders and Fenris out :’D But Carver is always there as much as i can make him there. I love him. My baby brother.

54. Fluffiest headcanon ever? God i wish I were good at fluff. The best I got is the friendship between Sera and Falon cause lEMME TELL U THATS SOME PURE STUFF and the fact that to get even with him for stressing her out Sera tricked him into eating a really gross cake theyre literally children even tho one of those children is over 8000 yrs old.
