Alina information series: the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe pt.1
Tumblr media
Before Alina was born, there was a second prophecy. A prophecy that told of a daughter of Aslan that would be born as a beacon of hope in Narnia, she would help defeat the white witch and ensure the future kings and Queens of Narnia sit on the thrones of Cair Paravel being the light in the dark for Narnia itself
Alina was originally born in a village of former sorcerers who no longer used magic since the white witch came to rule
Alina's village was loyal to one another and looked after each other like family.
After Alina was born, the cold ice winds started getting warmer, which was a sign that the guardian of the new Kings and Queens of Narnia was born sending a small beacon of hope to narnians near and far
When the winds reached the white witch, she immediately sent out her guards to every corner of the narnian icelands to look for the child, including herself
When Jadis was close, Jadis laid waste to Alina's village, killing and turning all those who hid the location of Alina and her mother into stone as a crime against the "Queen" of Narnia
Alina's mother ran into the woods to try and escape the queen with Alina in her arms, trying to find a safe place for them both.
When Alina's mother encountered the lamppost, she remembered her dream that Aslan came to her and told her that the journey her daughter would take would have to begin without her.
At first, Alina's mother didn't understand until she saw that lamppost, and so, she left Alina and ran to draw Jadis's attention to her
Alina, after a few minutes in the cold, was sent into the earthworld by the roaring distant winds of Aslans roar and at the doorsteps of Professor Kirk's home, where Alina was raised by Macready and Professor Digory Kirke
As Alina grew up, she was alone as a child except the occasional tea time with the professor.
But then, one day, while she was playing, she accidentally broke one of the professors' artifacts, which alerted Macready. So Alina ran to the room with the wardrobe to hide until Macready calmed down (which would take a loooong time)
As she went deeper into the wardrobe, she encountered the land of Narnia where she met Mr. Tumnus and had tea with him.
When Alina first stepped into Narnia, everyone immediately felt it. The winds grew warm, and the sun even showed itself. Mr. Tumnus even felt her warmth, and he immediately assumed who she was.
When the white witch felt the warm winds, she knew what it meant and immediately sent her scouts to find the source
Mr. Tumnus did consider turning Alina to the Queen, but he then saw a sign from Aslan and then immediately escorted Alina back to safety to the lamp post
When Alina went back to the earthworld, the winds of Narnia were cold once more in her absence.
When Alina went back, she tried to go back to Narnia, but the wardrobe was back to being a normal wardrobe.
Every day after she came back to the earthworld, she would go to the wardrobe and try to find a way to get back to Narnia
She continued to visit the wardrobe until she was 11.
Eventually, she forgot to go to the wardrobe and started thinking she was just imagining things and that the snowy world of Narnia was a dream
That was until the Pevensie siblings came into her life

I occasionally liveblog Warrior Cats and Wings of Fire!
Here's how my tagging system works:
"phoenix liveblogs warrior cats" is for any of the warriors liveblogging I do! If you want to look at it all, this'll be the tag everything goes under. And "phoenix rereads wof" is the general tag for any of my wof thoughts I have while going on my reread
For warriors (still debating on doing this for wof) if there's a specific book you want to look at, I'll be tagging each post I make with the book's title, for example, I've gone through Mistystar's Omen and all of those posts are tagged with "mistystar's omen" (I also plan to use the arc's acronyms once I get to them)
If there's something notable about a specific character, I'll be tagging their name
I use the "warrior cats" and "wings of fire" tag occasionally because I don't want to clog the tag, but I tend to use it for the posts that I think should have more reach (so the ones I actually put effort into or I think are funny)
"wc" and "wof" is for anything I reblog from other people
"warriors designs" has kinda turned into "warriors art that I really really like," as well as character designs I like!
And since this is my pinned post I should probably finally make list of my fandoms *continues under the cut*
Ninjago (main)
Wings of Fire (main)
Warrior Cats (main)
Night in the Woods
Echo Visual Novel, as well as Adastra and Arches (I haven't read The Smoke Room yet, so no spoilers pretty please)
The Magnus Archives
The Owl House
Amphibia
Steven Universe
Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts
Avatar: The Last Airbender
other lego things like Legends of Chima and Monkie Kid
Spyro / Skylanders
DreamWorks Trolls (I am cringe but I am free)
Lab Rats (yeah. the disney xd sitcom)
Chronicles of Narnia
The Dragon Prince
Stranger Things (I really only care about El to be honest. you wanna ask me about El so bad~)
just xenofiction in general really
also a whole bunch of xenofiction webcomics (shout out to What Lurks Beneath, PatFW and Doe of Deadwood)

20 Questions For Fic Writers
stolen from @thebreakfastgenie - if you want to do this, consider yourself tagged!
How many works do you have on Ao3?
508, not including anon works
2. What's your total Ao3 word count?
1,779,933
3. What fandoms do you write for?
uh... lots? i think i've written in upwards of 70 fandoms. mostly currently Harry Potter and Star Trek (Voyager & Lower Decks). Occasionally I'll toss in a Miraculous fic. My top 6 by works are: Harry Potter (187), Yuri!!! on ICE (62), Chronicles of Narnia (39), Bridgerton Series - Julia Quinn (18), The Umbrella Academy (TV) (12) - tied with Original Work (12)
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
The Total Agony of Being in Love (Red White & Royal Blue - Casey McQuiston)  Two of A Kind (Howl Series - Diana Wynne Jones) La Magique étude du Bonheur (Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling)  i bloom just for you (Red White & Royal Blue - Casey McQuiston) enough contrition to spare (Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling)
5. Do you respond to comments?
I try to! but i do have over 100 comments in my inbox so perhaps i am not like... the best at it haha
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I think maybe either: (for you) i would ruin myself (Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling) or: Death Date (Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling)  OR: like my parents never did (Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling)  but like i write a LOT of angst lol
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I've written so much fluff so I'm just going to plug relationship advice (Miraculous Ladybug) (written for @nemaliwrites actually haha) because I think it has enough stakes for the ending to count as truly happy instead of just. fluff all the way through. (though it is pretty fluffy)
8. Do you get hate on fics?
yeah. i wrote aged up characters once and got called disgusting like ok thanks you're the one who took the time to click on it and leave a comment. but ok. i also was told very rudely that sirius was ooc in a fic for not being fanon sirius. again: ok. read the books.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I do, pretty often, actually. I've written F/M, F/F, M/M, F/M/M. I'll be posting some F/F/M soonish too.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Not often? I think the craziest one I've written was Star Wars PT / Buffy the Vampire Slayer: friends in highly low places
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not just that, but I had a fic ripped off for a professionally published novel. not that i'm still bitter, or anything.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes! Введение в дипломатию by lyomna, translation of an introduction to diplomacy (Narnia) From English to Русский
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Sure have! Mostly in Yuri!!! on ICE
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
don't do this to me. I genuinely don't know. all-time?? Jill/Eustace and Polly/Digory have stood the test of time better than anything for any of my other fandoms tbh. But like favorite???? I can't pick. Some evergreen ships: Katniss/Peeta (THG), Remus/Lily (HP), Drarry (HP), Hyacinth/Gareth (Bridgerton).
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
i mean the entirety of the cat café universe is probably not being touched again. uh. beyond that? not one for being let down (Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling) - I should probably just put an epilogue on it and call it done a matter of diplomacy (Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis) - I really do like this one, but my brain is just not giving me many more ideas for it.
16. What are your writing strengths?
dialogue and character voice!
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
detailed description
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I did it before bc I was a pretentious ass and continue it in Ravenclaw AU for consistency's sake, but I probably wouldn't do it again, unless it was a language I spoke fluently (so French or German) and didn't want my POV character to understand, and even then... eh.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Harry Potter, officially, but I wrote out some Halloweentown fanfiction in 3rd grade and submitted it for an assignment, so does that count?
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
making me choose a favorite child. jk it's probably Lost Causes (Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling) or, in a completely different vein, the proof is in the pudding (literally. no one tested the pudding.) (Succession (TV 2018))

RULES
RULE ONE/OOC INFORMATION Hi, my name is Kel, I'm over 21+ and use the pronouns she/her. Time zone is GMT.For now, my blog will run on a queue as I'm busy with some real life stuff. But sometimes, I may come online for an hour or two, depending on my mood. Blog is selective, private and mutual only. Also OC, multi fandom and multi-muse friendly too.
RULE TWO/THREADS AND REPLIES  Replies can take a while to reply to, but I am not ignoring anyone. Please message if I haven't replied within a month. The best way to begin threads are through sending ask memes. I will also post open starters and maybe the occasional starter call. Not really a plotting person either; prefer to go with the flow.
RULE THREE/TRIGGERS I don't really have any triggers. That being said I will tag other people's triggers the best I can, and if I don't feel free to send a message and let me know. Don't send anon hate either. We all make mistakes and can't remember everything. Regarding shipping, I'm open to anything really. That being said, don't force any ships on any of my characters. I'll just unfollow/block if it continues to happen.
RULE FOUR/ETIQUETTE I do not tolerate any forms of hate. Racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia and any other forms of hate are not tolerated on this blog and I don't want to see any of it on the dash. It's an immediate hard block if I see anything. Respect each other, it's not that hard.
RULE FIVE/SHIPPING. Regarding shipping, I'm open to anything really. That being said, don't force any ships on any of my characters. I'll just unfollow/block if it continues to happen. I mostly ship for chemistry, but don't mind discussing ships beforehand if anyone wants to try anything out.
RULE SIX/SMUT AND MATURE THEMES Smut will not be featured on this blog. All other mature themes will be tagged accordingly and I'm pretty much open to anything except rape, incest etc.
CREDIT All gifs, icons etc on this blog do not belong to me. Credit goes to their rightful owners.

My apologies to the mods if this has already been sent, I've been having issues with both tumblr and my Internet lately. Hey there! 26F looking for some roleplays with +20 people!
- Quality> Quantity. I tend to mirror posts but I’m realistic, when it comes to some scenes posts tend to get shorter (like when we’re in a dialogue heavy one). I don’t need novella-length posts.
- Doubling is a must. I like to play both Canon and OCs, what kind of combinations depends on the fandom.
- MxF (playing both genders) is what I'm looking for in mains, although I have my occasional FxF and MxM pairings too, I’m coming back to these pairings after a long time. AGED UP IS A MUST. Unless my partner and I decide to not have any real romance until characters are of age, 18yo will be the minimum age of the characters.
- I like OOC chit chat, sharing all our memes, silly headcanons… I won’t pressure you for replies.
Now, the fandoms!
Percy Jackson OCxOC: I’ve watched the movies (I know, I know) and my roommate will lend me the books when she can. Haven’t watched the show yet.
I can only really do OCxOC here, and although I have some random knowledge about the books due to having a best friend obsessed with them, consider me very noob-ish and be ready to get flexible. Perhaps, what I’m searching for is more of a Percy based RP.
The Chronicles of Narnia CanonxOC: Watched all the movies, and although I'm a fan of playing things from the beginning and building up some past scenes with our own characters included, I'm also up for something starting during the years they ruled over Narnia or during the Caspian times. We could come up with our own prophecies and make it original-esque even.
Canon I'd love to play as: Peter, Susan (open to FxF) - I'm not interested in playing Caspian rn, sorry
Canon I'm looking for: Edmund.
Spiderverse CanonxOC: Watched both movies, too much fan content and theories, bought figurines... I've always been a Spiderman fan and I'm having the time of my life with people loving the Spiderverse. Also, I'm finally getting into the comics. I'm open to ALTERNATIVE versions of these characters, bring me the originality of this fandom. I also prefer if my partner's OC has some kind of power or is at least included in the hero/anti-hero dynamic, since it makes it easier to move the plot along. Venom, prowler... variants are welcomed too! I have a few of my own hahahaha. Also we don't need to follow the canon story, we can come up with our own instead, or follow the story and continue it as we see fit. I wouldn't mind trying out Gwen on a F// pairing.
Canons I'd love to play as: Miles, Miles 42, Gwen, Pavitr - I'm aware of the trans Gwen headcanon, but I'm afraid that I play her as a cis woman.
Canons I'm looking for: Hobie and Miles 42
Avatar - CanonxOC OCxOC As in Cameron's avatar.
I'm leaning more towards a Way of Water roleplay, either following the canon or doing a similar story to the first movie but with the Metkayina. But I'm open to other plots, even only with the Omaticaya clan and the forest biome.
I'm open to CanonxOC and OCxOC, but take into account that the Na'vi that I will be open to play will be the younger generation (as in Lo'ak, Neteyam, Rotxo, maybe Ao'nung, Tsireya, Kiri - both open for FxF -...) aged up.
Trolls CanonxOC, CanonxCanon: Yes, as in dreamworks trolls. Sorry the third move has me confused about how much I’ve liked it.
I’m searching for a comfort roleplay. In which, yes, we can explore drama and darker adventures than the original source, but I’m also craving the silliness and fluffiness of this fandom, the different hc and what ifs. I’ve seen very interesting ideas online already, I’ve even started to draw again! Trolls are giving all the happy chemicals to my brain.
In this fandom I’d like to do CanonxOC and CanonxCanon in terms of pairings, but I'm open to some OCxOC on the side.
Just a note, the characters I’m open to play are mainly the Brozone gang, Viva and perhaps other characters appearing in the third movie, and some from the second or first.
Thanks for reading and please send me a DM if you’re interested or have any questions!

So despite what the wiki says there's no reason to think that Parmesean Dimension Jessica didn't also experience the Narnia Dimension.
Accordingly, her post-that thing, in my head, includes just a general understanding that she is more fascinated with the Morty of whichever dimensional number she is interacting with. My take is that a Jessica who is continuous-compatible with narrative Rick and Morty always experiencing that.
But further, she is pretty much "over" whatever consideration of Morty she had entertained previously. The idea of another kid her age (she is REALLY early birthday-wise in their grade and he is almost at the end) who seemed to be able to go wherever he wanted and do whatever he wanted lost its novelty as she participated with or was adjacent to his adventures. Facing eternity and learning the futility of continually pursuing someone who the fates conspired to keep apart from her, and further someone who was experiencing a much faster version of the lack of autonomy that she had, is a person she simply knows she cannot be compatible with.
And that aside, she quietly decides to go to UCLA after high school to distance herself from both Rick AND Morty, even if she still might participate in the occasional adventure while in school, and be a friend to Morty when he needs it.
...
His sister tho...

Tumblr Writers Q&A Tag
I've had some thoughts and questions about tumblr writers for a while, curiosity and all that. So I thought I would make up a little Question Tag of my own, made up of questions I've seen asked before, or things I thought of myself.
I will answer my questions myself as well, and tag some mutuals and other writers to answer them too.
Feel free to play along, and answer or tag your writer friends!
- - - - -
1. How many complete fics/oneshots do you have (that you have not published (yet))? Currently, I have 2 finished fics, and three parts of a nine part series finished.
2. How many WIPS do you have right now? I have 1 WIP, and about 3 or 4 outlined fics.
3. Do you take writing requests or write original ideas, or both? I take requests mainly, but I also write original ideas.
4. If you do take requests, how many do you currently have? Currently, I have about 49 requests. (The oldest of which are a year old, yikes lol)
5. How many fandoms do you write for? I have about 35 fandoms I write for, but I only "actively" write for about 10.
6. Are there any fandoms you wrote for in the past, that you no longer write for? I don't really write for HP anymore. I also don't write or Bones, NCIS, CIS, Percy Jackson, or Narnia anymore. I also used to do gif imagines for any show whether I knew it or not.
7. Do you write for ships, reader inserts, or other? I write for reader inserts only (I try to always do gender neutral).
8. Niche fandoms/characters you write for? Jane Austen movie/show adaptations, Stargate, Lark Rise to Candleford, Btvs, Magnificent Seven.
9. Do you read fics as well as write them? I do not read fics nearly as often as I used too, but I try to read them when they come across my dash from my mutuals and fave writers.
10. What is your favorite genre (angst/fluff/whump/etc) to write for? I love to write fluff and romance.
11. What is your favorite trope (to read and/or write)? To read: idiots to lovers, whump, or mutual pining. To write: Soulmate aus, friends to lovers, and whump/comfort.
12. What do you do to get motivated to write? I re-watch the shows/movies related to my fandoms, or I occasionally read other fics from tumblr.
13. Is there a trope/genre you like to read, but not write? Fics that involve crossovers of fantasy or are completely changed from the fandom canon. Though I wouldn't say I read these often.
14. Any characters/fandoms you want to write for that are never requested? Plenty, like the fandoms Stargate, Prodigal Son, Magnificent Seven, and Star Wars. Some more niche characters in the MCU.
15. How long have you been writing fanfiction? Since 2017.
16. Did you read fanfiction before you started writing? Yes, it is what made me want to write in the first place.
17. Do you only post on tumblr, or other sites as well? (feel free to promote). I mainly post on tumblr, but I post a majority of my fics on Ao3 (make_me_imagine).
18. What do you personally consider the word counts of "drabbles", "oneshots" and "fics" (+other?)? In my own personal "definition", I usually consider drabbles anything from 50-650 words (anything less is a "blurb"). Oneshots are 651-1100, while "fics" are 1100+. (these are all give or take some). It also depends a bit on the amount of dialogue vs description.
19. Which do you prefer to write more? Headcanons, Drabbles, Oneshots/Fics, Multi-Chapter Stories, or other? I prefer to write fics in the range of 2k+ words, but I often struggle to hit that mark. I would also love to write more multi-chapter fics in the future.
20. Are there any stories you have discontinued? If so, why? I have a Sam Wilson x Fm!Reader story called "Worthy" that I have not added on to in 4 years. I might re-write it. I also have a Star Trek, Jim x FM!Reader story that I do plan to continue, I'm just not sure when. Neither of these stories got a lot of traction or reblogs, and I just kind of gave up on them.
21. What is one of your main "pet-peeves" as a writer on tumblr? People that request fics and then do not react to them at all. They might like it, but that is it. No reblog, comment or other acknowledgment. (Its worse when you know they saw it). Also people who refuse to reblog, or just lack of reblogs in general.
22. Do you write at a particular time of day? I find I write the best in the late-morning, or evening, never mid-day. Specific times would be 10-12am; and 9-10 pm. I usually reserve these times to write, and often get entire fics done within those timelines.
23. Do you listen to music, ambiance/noise, etc. to write, or do you need silence? Sometimes I listen to ambiance sounds, or instrumental music, but only if there is stuff going on in the room around me that is distracting. Otherwise I prefer silence. And I cannot listen to regular music, because I get distracted by it.
24. Do you outline your fics at all before writing? Most of the time yes. I never used too, but I find that it helps keep me on track, especially if there is a specific scene or prompt I want to include. Though sometimes I completely de-rail and write something totally different, which is fine.
25. Do you post your writing as soon as you finish it, or do you schedule it to come out at a specific time/day? About 95% of the time nowadays, I write fics ahead of time, and post them all throughout the next week, or the following days. Sometimes I write fics the night before, or even the morning of, but it depends on when the last time I posted was. Time-wise, when I schedule fics, I schedule them to come out at 7am my time.

Modern AU
While Edmund is the star of the ice, he's also the best ballet dancer, despite never doing it competitively.
Peter had never tried, Susan became suddenly clumsy for no reason and Lucy was never as graceful.
Peter is a photographer, a camera always around his neck. (Consequently, he brought his camera with him to Narnia.)
Susan was the best at being their "mother", despite not being the best cook. She could sew and clean, but not in the much of hobbies besides reading.
(Peter, surprisingly, is the best cook. Edmund second, but he's the better baker. Besides skating, his pastries were the only time he would get even slightly positive reactions.
Lucy is also better at cooking than Susan. Many like to write how the boys can burn water, but I like to imagine that that's what Susan did when she started out, and occasionally still does that.)
Lucy is a painter, her clothes and skin always covered in paint and a paintbrush behind her ear. (She lost her paintbrush at her second trip to Narnia at the dam and was devastated when she learnt Narnia, as a country under the 100 year rule of an ice tyrant, do not have paint and paintbrushes. It's only when trade was set up that Narnia had any access at all. And yet, Edmund had carved her a paintbrush out of a dryad given wood and woven straw. He couldn't make paint, but even having a brush had helped.)

One reason I get so anxious about writing in SW is because the experience of having a closed canon suddenly go live again is incredibly god damn stressful, and this has happened a couple different times (and a couple different ways) over the years.
But in the most literal sense, Wake was in-progress when The Lost Missions dropped -- it started when TCW was canceled and closed and then all of a sudden NEW CLONE WARS.  (Yes. Wake is that old.  Wake’s significantly older than people realize.)  Gambit was in-progress when the EU got decanonized and the new canon came in.  (And did not super get affected by TFA because it’s so far gone timeline-wise, but there’s stuff in Gambit that’s from the new canon, like Caleb’s cameo.)  Backbone just had to deal with ongoing canon, which I knew going in, but it gets backlash from things that happened later on in Rebels that I had no way of predicting back in 2015 (Kallus is the big one).  Crown got stalled out for several reasons, but one is that I was so thrown by Palpatine in TROS that I froze on his scenes in Crown.  There’s ongoing stuff with Mando, TCW S7, and the ancillaries (books, comics, games) that’s rebounded onto both Crown and other side AU, and while all y’all on Rebels Tumblr are mostly nice enough to not go HEY, BUT WHAT ABOUT [INSERT THING HERE] I know the instant things start going up on AO3 I’ll start getting that again about whatever the new thing is, and I just freeze, because I get so much of it on Wake and Gambit (and a small amount on Backbone, but Backbone’s weird enough that I can count on one hand the amount I’ve gotten because mostly those types tap out earlier), that, for example, thinking about writing PT-era again is literally panic attack-inducing.  (I’m genuinely a little shocked I put out the last couple concepts -- actually, to be fair, I guess I didn’t actually post the ones with Anakin and Mace.)
Like, a live canon is a live canon, and if I didn’t want to be writing in a live canon I’d go back to writing in Narnia.  But coming into a fandom when it was closed and having it suddenly go live again is really stressful, especially if you’re a long form serial writer like I am.  I know Devil’s in the Details (the universe-hopping portion of other side AU) has to start going up on AO3 before the next round of live action Star Wars hits because it means I’ll have a stopping point to say “okay, I’m not taking into account anything past this point unless I really want to” (despite the fact that other side is a weird mash-up of Legends and new canon!), but that’s less important for the audience and more important for me.  (Especially given the most recent round of rumors about the Ahsoka show and Rangers of the New Republic.)
With Star Wars also there’s -- there’s what I tend to call the CONSTANT VIGILANCE thing, where something that you think is closed off can suddenly come back without any warning in a format you didn’t expect, or whose coming will be foretold in rumor, but when they appear they might be in character or they might not, they might look like the character you remember or they might not, they might be played by a different actor or a different VA or they might not, the new information may logically continue from the last you heard or it may blatantly contradict it, but the whole time the PTB are acting like everything is fine and it’s the exact same and it’s genuinely existentially exhausting. and there’s no way to prepare! at least in the vast majority of other live canons you at least know that it will probably be in the same format, or the other thing will be easier to ignore because the PTB don’t claim that it’s all equally canon, but Star Wars is just...exhausting. And I do genuinely love Star Wars. I do genuinely want to enjoy the canon material. But just being in the fandom (and I’m aware of a LOT of stuff because ha ha apparently I’ve got some weird hypervigilance stuff going on with the fandom where I have to be aware of everything all the time) sets off my hypervigilance and occasionally makes me feel like I’m being gaslighted, and it’s...exhausting.  Every time there’s not currently a big name ongoing SW in process I breathe a sigh of relief -- like, thank gods I gave up on the comics years ago, because my nerves literally couldn’t handle it.  (And I gave up on them for the aforementioned “character comes back in a form you’re not expecting and is wildly out of character but everyone acts like it’s fine” and also the animal harm.)  And every time I think my nerves are finally dead and I can just go on I get slapped in the face with something I wasn’t expecting, thanks, Mando.  no fucking wonder I keep writing minute variations on a theme that’s so weird it doesn’t draw in new readers.

Answers to Dark Academia Asks
Its called I'm bored and I am procrastinating from doing my dissertation (its on medieval Norse dragons btw, I can make a post about it if anyone is interest), so I'm doing these questions. It has probably been years since I've done one of these, so let's learn a bit about me!
ink: favorite dead language?
Old Norse, mostly because its what my studies mostly focus on, though I have a soft spot for Latin, because I studied it throughout middle school and high school.
quill: how would you describe your writing style?
I don't really know. Supposedly its a weird writing style that I need to improve on, according to my professors. One of them told me it reminded them of a "1950s Robin Hood radio play" in some of the phrasings, so lets go with that.
perfume: scent of choice, whether it be a perfume/candle or just in general?
I really like bakery smells, like vanilla and cake and such, but also peach and fruity smells as well. If someone could make a perfume that smells like a peach crumble I'd be all set!
parchment: what area of philosophy interests you?
None, I've never been really interested in philosophy, sorry!
candles: favorite quote?
Oooooh that's a hard one. But on my page I have "not all those who wander are lost" from Tolkien, so let's go with that one!
raven: what makes you feel most like a “dark academic”?
Despite being online for class, it really helps that I study at an old university. Yesterday I sat in the sun at the ruins of the first monastery in my town, and that felt pretty "dark academic". Otherwise, its when I have to get out a book for my classes that looks like it hasn't been checked out in decades.
pages: do you annotate your books? how do you prefer to annotate them?
I never annotate books that I just read for entertainment. If its for research, I will highlight/underline, put sticky notes in, and occasionally write in.
corduroy: any big past regrets?
In this pandemic, there are a bunch, lol. But mostly its that I didn't do a lot of the traditional stuff that students at my uni do, and now that I'm graduating this year and everything is closed, I have to miss out on them.
violin: favorite composer? favorite piece of classical music?
I don't often listen to classical music, its just not something I gravitate towards. For composers, I really like listening to film scores, especially by Howard Shore and Harry Gregson-Williams. Anything fantasy is usually up my alley.
teapot: how do you take your tea or coffee?
I really like infusion teas, which I know someone will tell me that doesn't really count. But I just always like having a red berry tea with one or two sugars. For coffee, I prefer iced, and will get an iced caramel latte if I'm ordering it, but will just have a hot coffee with milk and sugar if I'm at home, because it's easier.
library: preferred study environment?
I love studying in cafes! I find that staying in the library too long makes me less productive, so I like sitting at a table in a dark cafe, having a coffee and being able to get work done while still having people talking and music playing around me.
wood: what does your ideal future look like?
While I would love to be part of some monster hunting/occult secret society, I don't think that's a possibility. I want to go into academia, hopefully being a professor, but would also be interested in working in museums and archives as well!
leather: favorite book(s)? what makes them special?
Anything by Tolkien will probably top my list because I have always had a special connection to Middle Earth that I can't really explain. I also love Narnia, His Dark Materials, Howl's Moving Castle, etc. etc.
canvas: is there any work of art that resonates with you? why?
Anything that's Pre-Raphaelite or Romantic, I just find that art style so beautiful and magical, especially because they tend to have very mythological/legendary themes to them that I appreciate.
capelet: quintessential piece of dark academia clothing?
A black turtleneck. I wear way too many turtlenecks in general, but growing up I watched the History Channel where every historian wore a black turtleneck. So now as a historian, I love wearing black turtlenecks haha!
feather: favorite poet? favorite piece of poetry?
I know this might be controversial, but I just don't really like poetry! I like reading epic poems like the Aeneid, Beowulf, etc., but for some reason I've just never gotten into modern poetry. If anyone has any recommendations let me know!
shadow: what makes you feel nostalgic?
Carving pumpkins, sitting outside on the porch in the summer, baking cookies with my mom.
sandalwood: what plants/flowers would you like to have in your study?
I want so many plants, but I just don't have a green thumb! I would love to have some small plants dotted around my study and propagating plants along the windowsills if I thought I could keep them alive. Maybe I should just start with a cactus.
clock: early bird or night owl?
Neither? I guess in the summer I become more of an early bird, but I like mid-morning to early afternoon time more than anything. Or late afternoon as the sun is setting!
pressed flowers: have you every fallen in love? out of love?
Yes to both.
orchestra: describe the songs on your most played playlist
Currently that playlist is a Buffy x Spike playlist because I started binge-watching BTVS but now I just listen to it because its got a lot of songs about illicit romance, unrequited feelings, etc. that is just really nice to listen to.
fire: which of the seven deadly sins do you find yourself leaning towards?
.....pride.....
tweed: any languages you want to learn/are learning?
I am currently learning Old Norse, Old English, and am re-teaching myself Latin. I would like to continue to learn Middle English and Welsh which I have taken breaks from. I need to learn German and/or French for PhD applications next fall. And I think it would be cool to know Ancient Egyptian and read hieroglyphs. Is that enough?
dust: biggest fears?
The typical answer of failure. I'll tell you though that I have an irrational phobia of the ocean and whales specifically. If anyone can explain that, I'd love to know!
silence: do you consider yourself to be a good secret keeper?
100%. Plus, I like knowing what everyone's secrets are, because I just think its interesting.

𝑎𝑚𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑠' 𝑛𝑜𝑡𝑒: blacklist “ameris 500 celebration!” if you don’t want to see any of my posts about this celebration! also if this flops i will cry. jk i won’t but it’ll definitely take a hit on my heart u__u (and if it does flop, you didn’t see this post)
Tumblr media
—𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐎𝐃𝐔𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍—
Ahhhh! I’m so amazed that I got to 500 followers despite the fact that I barely?? Post?? And sometimes I just talk about random shit but even then, I still appreciate all of you guys so much? I have a few options on what I have to celebrate and I am so excited heheh. But before I get started I just,,, Have a few more things I’d like to talk about (cus I like to talk LOL). Feel free to skip though!!
content continued below the cut!! (warning; introduction is long because I just have a lot of thoughts I want to share LOL. seriously, feel free to just skip)
I know that I only really started posting Haikyuu!! around my 300 mark, and I feel like the people after my 300 mark are the one’s who are active because of how much I come onto tumblr and then disappear.
If you don’t know this, I’ve actually been writing on Tumblr since 2015/2016. I’ve just changed blogs so many times that it’s like, hey, this is my new blog. Or like, I would write for a few months, disappear, come back but then everyone who followed me was dead so I was like eh I’ll just start again or whatever. And I think this makes me very very soft because out of all the communities I’ve been in, I’ve truly felt more welcome/at home even?? With everyone in Haikyuu? Like yeah there’s shit that goes down every few days or whatever but it’s always so fun to see people interact with each other and though I was hesitant at first (because before this the only writer I’ve ever interacted with was Scout for marvel oop) I’m really glad I reached out to a few of y’all and vice versa.
But despite that, Marvel will always hold a place in my heart and to everyone who followed me from my Marvel days, thank you for supporting me way back when. And even to my Narnia days (AHAHAHA). I don’t think I would’ve continued writing on tumblr without your guys’ support. I know that younger me appreciated you all for reading those old works (even if I hate my old writing now).
And to everyone now, thank you for sending in asks or commenting on my works. I actually think I would’ve disappeared by this time from this blog if you guys didn’t interact. I’m not saying I’m writing for the follows or the notes, if that makes sense. But it’s more like, I feel less of a robot that people expect to churn out works. Idk, it makes me feel like a person? And it just gives me a lot more serotnin than you might think!!
One last thing though, it’s not me saying I expect you guys to always read my work and always comment. It’s more so, I’d actually rather have you guys comment or whatever because you want to and you want to read it. Like on one hand yes it does make me feel appreciated but I also don’t want you to feel obligated or feel guilty of you don’t read my things. No matter what, I will always be writing. It definitely does feel nice tho LOL
I promise in the future, if I ever do intros they won’t be this long lol.
Phew. Anyway.
For this celebration, this is only for Haikyuu!!

this,,, is a lot but i’m okay with that! heheh

HELLO FROM THE MAGIC TAVERN
Tumblr media
I’m a fan of fantasy, I like improvised comedy and I enjoy letting my imagination slip away from my body for some well-deserved rest every now and then. That’s why I started listening to ‘Hello from the Magic Tavern’; a weekly improvised-comedy fantasy podcast.
The simple premise can be found on the podcast’s website: “Hello! I’m Arnie. I fell through a magical portal behind a Burger King in Chicago and found myself in a strange magical land called Foon. I’m still somehow getting a weak wi-fi signal so I host a weekly podcast, interviewing creatures, wizards, and adventurers.” And that, my friends, is pretty much all you need to know to get started.
Each episode consists of the host, Arnie Niekamp, the human host of the podcast, sitting down with two fellow inhabitants of Foon to chat with characters from the fantasy world. His companions are Usidore the Blue (an ageing wizard with not very much power and a *huge* name), and Chunt, a talking badger (sorry, a shapeshifter). Their stage: the Vermillion Minotaur, the local tavern in the town of Hogsface. Still with me? Then, you’ll love this!
I was hooked on this podcast from the start. The initial premise, whilst ludicrous, is really fun. The comedians who play all the characters are obviously close in real life, which helps bring out the banter in their characters. Each week, there is a new guest they chat to, played by another member of their friendship circle, and some of whom return as the same characters. These caricatures are all Tolkien-esque parodies, ranging from flying pigs, elven archers, eunuchs, hunger ghosts and memory gremlins.
The format is a simple one; the three primary hosts sit and talk, and later sound-effects are added in post-production to provide satisfaction to your ears as well as your laughing muscles. This basic staging is all that’s needed for this platform, as you’re focussed primarily on the banter of the three, shall we call them, ‘friends’ whilst Arnie tries to interview the guest each week. Anything more than this would have detracted from the original purpose of the podcast, so it’s nice to know what to expect.
I’m currently 38 episodes in, and all the episodes have been fairly consistent so far. Unfortunately, if you haven’t been listening since episode one, you may lose the meaning of some of the in-jokes, lore and banter references the main characters make. Also, being an American podcast, some of the pop culture references are lost on me also due to proximity, but it doesn’t detract too much from the essence of the show. The point is these characters, save for one, are not from our world, and so have the time of their lives in developing their own lore and mis-communications…hence why you often hear each person laughing under their breaths with each insult and tirade thrown to each other.
Through the website of the podcast, also, eager listeners can follow the wiki that’s been specially created for the show, which outlines each episode, and even picks out the specific Earth or Foon references made in the show. I’d suggest any fan goes and has a look for themselves, as it’s an extremely detailed and well-made reference site.
Whilst Arnie is the host and producer of the show, the stand out talent come in the shape of Adal Rifai and Matt Young, who play Chunt and Usidore respectively. Adal’s dead-pan humour and dry wit help propel his character along and develop his relationship with Arnie, whilst Usidore is, in my opinion, the main reason why anyone should continue listening to the show. Matt plays him as such a sub-par wizard, and yet commands such insanely brilliant improvisations and quips that bring the character to life. The reactions of both characters are surreally vivid as well; neither of these individuals know anything about how we live from day to day, and yet they quickly and masterfully analyse our common language and phrasing and can quickly pick it apart…and still remain in character. Improvisation like that takes a lot of development and love to create, and this is definitely a project of love.
Some negatives for me are, firstly, this is definitely not a podcast for young ears. Many who love the fantasy worlds of Narnia or Middle-Earth are younger in age, but unless you’re at least 16, they’ll either be offended or bemused by some of the language used. There is strong language, sexual references and mentions of drug use so if you have sensitive dispositions, maybe give this one a wide berth. Some of the humour does *occasionally* resort to toilet humour, but that sometimes depends on the guest speaker they have in each episode. Also, as mentioned, I’m only a third of the way through the first season, and the format hasn’t changed. Some may find this a bit stale and long for more of an adventure or story-telling setting like some other podcasts. However, this may be on the horizon, and I’m not turned off enough to stop tuning in.
The podcast has been growing for five years now, and the cast successfully tours the show for live performances at local theatres and podcast conventions. The website leads visitors through the shows community, to shops to buy merchandise and continue to the illusion of shows premise. It’s become a fan favourite amongst the podcast community and I would recommend anyone giving it a listen. You may find you have a new favourite.

Life Without Narnia
Also on AO3 Rated: General Audiences Fandom: Narnia
Summary: It was not just their time in Narnia that changed the Pevensie siblings. It was life without Narnia that changed them too.
Lucy avoided mirrors after she had come back from her last trip to Narnia. She avoided Susan too, although she hated herself for it. Susan had come home from America with stories of skyscrapers, bars and dates with pretty boys, but when she asked Edmund and Lucy how their time in the Scrubb household was, she did not believe them. She didn’t remember Aslan, or Reepicheep, or Caspian. She didn’t remember Narnia at all. She had only laughed and said it was very nice of them to include Eustace in their play, before regaling another colourful account of a date gone wrong. It was, however, not just Susan’s contempt for Narnia and their adventures there that caused Lucy to avoid her older sister. The true reason was that every time Lucy looked at her sister's brown, curling hair and gorgeous tanned face she was reminded of the Gentle and desired Queen she once knew. And every time she saw Edmund and Peter laugh at another one of Susan's escapades, she was reminded of that horrid, horrid spell she had cast, of that awful visit to that awful world where she, Lucy Pevensie, did not exist.
One day, during the wedding of one of her mother's younger friends, a photographer took a picture of the three oldest siblings whilst Lucy was congratulating the bride. When she turned around to join her siblings again, Lucy saw the flash of the camera and almost burst into tears. She managed to contain herself, but once they got home she claimed the picture, joking how it was her right to own a picture of the siblings she was not on. But now, sitting alone in Primrose Park, one of her favourite places in London, Lucy let her tears flow freely. The picture in her hands showed three happy adolescents, free of worries and care. Susan, with her clear skin and stunning smile, Peter, with his golden hair and cheerful laugh and Edmund, who had jumped in at the last second, with a jawline that could cut through rock, slightly squinting in the sunlight. The perfect Royal trio, and any stranger that would look at the picture had no reason to suspect there to be a fourth sibling. And why would they?
Lucy Pevensie had become Queen at age eight. Her royal duties didn't pertain much, just the occasional ‘smile and wave’, so she spent most of her time outside. Talking to Mr Tumnus, or drinking tea with Mr and Mrs Beaver, or playing with the nymphs or swimming with the merpeople. She had grown up carefree, and she left the serious business to her brothers and sister. Peter had a knack for law, and Susan was ever the great diplomat. Edmund had proven himself to be quite the man for maths and economy, taking over the responsibility of the Royal treasury. So when Lucy grew up for the first time, and came of an age that she desired more responsibility, there were no tasks for her left. The three oldest monarchs of Narnia had managed wonderfully without her for the first few years, so why would they have any need her now? Thus, Queen Lucy the Valiant continued to spend her time with her subjects, playing, talking, gardening and celebrating. She helped where she could, but if there was ever an issue of even marginal importance, even her closest friends would rather confide in the older Kings and Queen than in her.
When they all grew up, it was Susan that was approached by suitors from abroad. At first, Lucy hadn't minded. She was too young, too free, too busy with the Narnians to look at other human men, and the ridiculous attempts at wooing the oldest sister had entertained all four siblings. But time passed, and Lucy, too, grew up. Yet still, no suitor came for her hand. Of course, she had some that had approached her, but all had tried and failed to court her older sister first. No one had ever come for her, just her, for it was only about the beauty of Queen Susan that tales were spread. Lucy was only an afterthought, a post scriptum, an ‘oh, the beautiful Queen Susan the Gentle of Narnia, she has a younger sister too’. Lucy didn't blame her sister for her beauty, nor did she fault her for revelling in the attention that it brought her. But more often than not, Lucy would leave the parties and big celebrations early in order to walk through the woods, or along the coast, and, she soon discovered, no one noticed her absence.
This, by now, was something she had gotten used to. Sitting on Primrose Hill with London spread out in front of her, she doubted anyone would miss her too. Her mother and Susan were out shopping for a new dress for Easter Sunday, Peter was studying and Edmund and Eustace were catching up after a long semester spent at separate schools. Her father, as always, was working, so Lucy was alone. And this time, she had no beavers, no fauns, no trees or merpeople or talking mice to keep her company. It was just her, a picture of her older siblings and a view of the grey and dirty city of London. With her thumb, Lucy traced the outline of her older sister's face. It truly was flawless, and shaping just like it had before, the first time they grew up. Lucy found it such a shame her sister kept her hair shorter, and she missed the moments she had spent braiding the Queen’s endlessly long hair, decorating it with flowers or shells or leaves. Now, Susan kept it either loose around her face, or occasionally up with a simple bow. Lucy used to braid it for her, here, in London, but every time Susan thought Lucy didn’t see, she untied her hair. It wasn’t ‘in’ to have your hair braided, so soon Lucy stopped offering. The eyes of her older brother looked bright into the camera, the deep wisdom glowing from it hinting that he had lived longer than the photographer could ever suspect. Edmund’s curly hair was immortalised in a blurry smudge as the camera had caught it in movement. His smile was bright, for winter was over and spring had begun, and all was good again.
None of the siblings noticed Lucy’s quiet demeanour. Why would they? Their busy lives left little time to speak with each other extensively. Helen Pevensie had noticed, but she noticed that all of her children had changed after the war. She talked about it with her husband, and he had blamed the War. The War had changed everyone, not just the soldiers fighting in it. Helen had nodded, and gone back to sleep. Her children were growing up, after all, so it made sense that their characters changed. She didn’t notice the sadness in her youngest daughter’s eyes, the longing for a world far from here, the unexplained absences or the longing looks to the trees she passed. How could she? She did not know of Narnia, of her children’s rule, or of the people in the trees. She did know Aslan, as did her husband, but they did not know Him by the same name their children did. She knew him as God, as the Almighty Father, as the Saviour of all people, as the One, she believed more rightly than she could ever guess, that had kept her family safe when the war devastated the rest of the world.
So, Lucy sat on top of Primrose Hill, looking down at a sight so far removed from Narnia that her adventures almost felt like a fever dream. Almost. But there was no way Lucy would, could ever forget the friends she made or the places she had seen or the things she had experienced. And as she looked down upon the picture, the picture of three royal siblings laughing and celebrating Lucy felt just as terrible as she had when she was Susan, as when she had seen the Pevensie’s life without Narnia. And right before her eyes, the picture seemed to change. Instead of an awful reminder of her insecurities, of her shortcomings, of her sister’s superior beauty and her brothers’ wisdom she saw something else. She saw three children, playing in the snow, ignorant of what would happen. She saw three children, fleeing from an evil which. She saw three warriors, she saw three rulers. And she saw what Narnia had brought to each of them: courage, patience, kindness, hope. And suddenly, in the background, Lucy noticed something else. A seagull, flying in the distance. At that moment, Lucy could have sworn she heard the silent whisper of Aslan, speaking the words He had spoken to her before: Courage, dear heart.
Lucy did not avoid mirrors anymore after she came back from Primrose Hill. She didn’t avoid Susan, either. She laughed at her sister’s stories about the ridiculous behaviour of American boys, marvelled at the pictures of the skyscrapers and even went out clubbing with her sister once. Instead of hiding the picture out of sight, she put it up above her desk, and instead of tearing up, a smile crossed her face each time her eyes fell on her siblings' happy faces. It was not just life in Narnia that had changed them all, it was living without Narnia that had changed them more. And although Susan turned her back on Narnia, Lucy knew that Narnia had not turned its back on the Gentle Queen. After the train crashed, after they had arrived in New Narnia, Queen Lucy the Valiant treasured this knowledge, for she knew that one day, Queen Susan the Gentle would return to Cair Paravel once again.

We all know how hard it is to find new writers on tumblr (let’s face it, it’s hard to do anything on tumblr these days), and that sometimes means talent gets buried. So, as two writers, we wanted to do something to highlight the wonderful talent the Harry Styles fandom has.
If you’d like to take part, or you have a writer you’d like to see get some recognition, fill out this handy form HERE! Please don’t be shy about putting yourself forward, this isn’t a popularity contest, this is about you and your writing being found.
Here’s a shameless plug for our work!

When did you start writing? Who inspired you to give writing a go?
I started writing in 2010, but didn’t post anything anywhere until 2011. I don’t remember anyone really inspiring me to write. It was more of a way to get everything inside my head out, a way to deal with my life and terribly complicated 17-year-old feelings.
Tell us your 1D/Harry origin story.
I knew about One Direction around 2011/2012, who didn’t? I will admit I was one of those people who “hated” them because they were popular, not really ever giving them a chance. But then, one fateful day in 2013, I watched the Best Song Ever video and with the thought of “oh, they’re all really pretty,” my whole life changed. I dove in headfirst and never looked back. Harry has always been my favorite, at first because I thought he was the hottest member of the band, but then I started learning more about him as a person and that solidified my love for him.
Tell us why Harry is your muse.
He’s just...the best. He’s so kind and genuine; I’ve never heard anyone who’s met him say anything negative about him as a person. He makes me feel better about myself, which is hard to explain, but I’ll give it a shot. It’s mostly because he’s so confident in himself, especially with his fashion choices, and he doesn’t care what other people think, which is a huge change from when 1D first started out. He’s grown to love himself over time and that’s really inspiring to me. He’s also got an amazing muscular body with some soft spots here and there, and that makes me feel better about my soft spots. If Harry has them and can be seen as so perfect by so many people, maybe mine aren’t so bad.
Do you tell people you write fanfic? Do you tell people you write at all?
I don’t usually tell people in regular conversation, but if the subject of writing comes up, and I feel comfortable enough with the person to share that it’s fic that I write, then I’ll tell them. Most of the time, it’s something I keep to myself.
Do you have a writing playlist, or do you need complete silence to write?
Definitely complete silence. It’s hard for me to listen to something and try to string words together at the same time, especially when I’m making up dialogue or trying to describe something.
What’s your favourite thing you've ever written.
I have a couple WIPs that I’m really proud of, but my favorite fic that’s been posted is We Gamble With Desire, my Zirry fic. I love writing those characters so much, and I’ve got so many timestamps and continuations planned for that verse. I could write in it forever, honestly.
What's your favourite thing you've ever read? Fanfic and non-fanfic?
Favorite book has to be either The Outsiders or The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles. It’s a children’s novel kind of like The Chronicles of Narnia in that it’s about three kids who go on adventures in a fantasy world, but this world is created by the kids in their own imaginations. I’ve read it about ten times over the years and it never fails to make me happy.
Favorite fic, that’s a little more difficult. I’ve read so many! The first one to pop in my head is Landslide, one that I’ve only read once but has really stuck with me ever since. I think it sticks out because it’s the first actual AU that I read, one that takes place in 1976 with Harry as an undercover FBI agent and Louis as a suspected cult leader. It’s long, about 140K if I remember correctly, but it really gets you hooked fast. There’s also Big White Lie, an OT5 A/B/O fic (which I know some people aren’t into), and the Working For The Skin Trade series, in which girl!Niall is rich and hires male escorts to keep her company.
Do you tend to stick to one genre, or do you like to change things up a little?
I think all of my writing ends up being kind of the same. Mostly smut, some angst here and there, maybe some feelings sprinkled in. I’m trying to branch out a bit with some of my WIPs, so we’ll see what happens with those.
Do you have a fixed plan of what you're going to write, or do you just see where the story takes you?
A little bit of both? Sometimes I start with a fixed plan, then get to the end of that plan and go where the story takes me. Other times I start with a plan but it all goes right out the window once I start writing. It really depends on what it is I’m writing and what kind of mood I’m in while I’m working on it.
Is there a schedule you follow in terms of when you write? Or are you more impulsive and just write where and when you can?
Where and when I can, definitely. I can make plans to write on certain days, usually whatever weekday I have off from work, but sometimes motivation doesn’t line up with that. An idea will occasionally strike me when I’m at work or busy doing something else, so I’ll jot it down in my phone real quick so I don’t forget it. Maybe I should try and make a schedule for writing. It might work better than my current process.
Are your stories driven by plot or character?
Plot, I think. The ideas I have are usually more about the plot and less about the characters. If I feel like it’s going to be a long fic, I try and plan out the plot first and then figure out who I want my characters to be after. The main pairing probably changes two or three times before I find a couple that sticks and fits with the plot best.
Some readers are wary of leaving feedback because they're unsure how the writer will take it, how do you personally like to receive feedback? Do you want to be critiqued, or would you like to just know if they did or didn't enjoy what they've read?
I like people to let me know what they liked and didn’t like, and also suggestions of what they want to see next or what they think could have made the story better. It helps to know what people want to read so I can post things they’ll like.
Do you use a beta? If so, feel free to give them a shout out! How do they help you?
I don’t, but I would love to have one! I have a few friends who I can bounce ideas off of, but an actual beta would be lovely to have.
Is writing a hobby or do you have aspirations of writing professionally outside of fanfiction?
100% a hobby. I’ve played with the thought of writing professionally, because I love writing and getting paid to do it would be amazing, but I’m terrible at keeping to deadlines so professional writing probably wouldn’t be a good idea for me.
Do you post your writing in other places? Where do you you find to be the best place for your work?
I’ve only posted my writing on Tumblr and AO3. I think they’re both good platforms because it’s easy to post writing on them and feedback is easy to give and to get.
Favourite writing trope?
Oh, man. There’s so many to choose from! I like writing “they’re in love and everyone knows it but them” and all of its variations, and I love reading “oh no! There’s only one bed/couch/seat left! Whatever are we to do??”
AU or OU?
AU. I’m not great at coming up with original characters but I can come up with alternate universes in a heartbeat.
Preferred types of writing: Blurbs, short stories, or full fics?
Either blurbs or full fics, depending on what kind of mood I’m in. I like blurbs for second person/self-insert pieces because most of my blurbs are based on things that have recently happened to me or certain feelings I’m having and need to get out, but I like full fics because I like being able to take my time telling stories with more complex plots, and full fics allow me to take all the time I need to tell them.
Do you draw anything from your personal life? What inspires your subject matter?
I draw a good portion of the blurbs I write from personal experience. A lot of my early writing was me turning my daydreams about my various crushes into little things I would keep to myself, just things I would use to get the ideas out of my head so I could move on to other impossible and unrealistic daydreams. A lot of my big fic ideas stem from me wanting to read a certain thing and not being able to find it anywhere so I just write it myself.
What's your purpose for writing? What do you hope to accomplish?
I’ve never really thought about it, to be honest. The main reason I started writing was to get stuff out of my head. My first Tumblr fandom piece was written for somebody because they had an idea and didn’t know how to flesh it out, so I figured I’d do it. More recently I’ve tried to come up with ideas for things that may not exist yet, try to cater to the parts of the fandom that don’t always get things written for/about them. I just like being able to give people the opportunity to read something different and maybe make them happy along the way.
And finally, do you have any advice/tips for your fellow fanfic writers?
Something I’ve learned recently is that if you keep going back and editing every little thing until it’s perfect, two things happen: it’s never going to be perfect, and you’re going to start hating writing. It’s going to feel more like a chore than something you enjoy and look forward to. A way I’ve been trying to combat that is to post whatever I write after looking over it only a few times. So far I’ve only done this with blurbs, and it’s helped a bit. Another tip is to write whatever you want. Trying to write to satisfy other people puts too much pressure on yourself, so just write whatever and however you like. You’ll find your groove in time.

with courage
Part 1/? of a King Caspian fic set during Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
Amber finds herself unexpectedly flung into Narnia and stuck at sea with no apparent way home. While trying desperately to accept things as they come, she’s left with new concerns that combine uneasily with the problems from her life in England, and a growing curiosity to discover what drew her into a journey of dragons, danger and dufflepuds.
Word count: 997 (Later parts will be longer. This is more of a prologue.)
Tumblr media
The gallery was exceptionally quiet.
Amber ambled through the almost silent building, excluding the occasional cough or heels clicking across the floor of the rare visitor, and found herself following her usual path despite scolding herself to go somewhere new. The Dulwich Picture Gallery housed a large and impressive collection, one that would be hard to appreciate in its entirety in a singular day, and yet she found herself not even attempting to explore its many depths and treasures. Instead Amber travelled the route she’d fashioned for herself 3 months ago and had since taken every week since. Her eyes skimmed over the work of Rembrandt and Poussin, though she loved them dearly, and found herself where she always ended up (much to her annoyance), in front of a painting of the ocean.
3 months ago, Amber stumbled upon an odd little corridor within the gallery, void of all decoration and art bar from this singular painting. There was no plaque to honour its creator, no name, no security patrolling, and lit only by a lone bulb in the centre of the ceiling. She had been tempted to question the staff multiple times, but always hesitated. The second her eyes lay on the painting, she found herself never wanting to leave; No matter how annoyed she might have been finding herself drawn to it time after time, to the point where she could easily map out the brush strokes and multitude of blues with her eyes closed, all of that negativity vanished as she stared at the piece. As much as she adored the details of the ocean, how vast and endless it appeared and yet comforting all the same, she loved the ship to the right of the scene just as much. How the sunlight warmed the curved bowsprit, uniquely shaped like the head of an armoured dragon, how the overwhelmingly large purple mast stood proud, billowing as if just caught in a gust of wind, and especially how the entire vessel sailed before the most stunning sunset she had ever witnessed. Rose clouds sponged with violet underbellies lay like brushstrokes against an electric cobalt sky, intersected with rays of pure gold and reflected onto the ocean for a doubly breath-taking view. It never ceased to draw her in, homing in her vision until it was the only thing she sensed, gently escorting her out of the gallery and into an infinite sea. She could smell the salty water, feel the spray from the waves across her face and hear the gentle squawk of a nearby seagull. In those stolen moments she found peace, but that’s all they ever were. Moments. She eventually snapped herself out of the atmosphere as if she was coming up for air from a dive - though she felt as if she was truly breathing easy when lost at sea and not back in the gallery - drowning instead in reality and longing. Amber had grown used to yearning for the world inside the painting.
This day, however, was different. Typically, Amber would curse herself when exiting the serene trance and leave the gallery, promising herself to never return but her resolve never lasting more than a week, but now she dared not to move.
The ship was coming closer.
Amber stared in amazement as the vessel crested a wave and she noticed for the first time a minuscule crew on board, adjusting the mast and sparring casually upon the deck. Baffled as she was for missing this detail during previous visits, she had to remind herself that the painting had also been stationary up until now. The pull in her stomach that ate at her whenever she strayed from the painting returned stronger than ever, nagging her to step closer. So, she did. Nose practically touching the paper, Amber watched the ship continue its journey and found herself unconsciously raising her hand to touch the sea. Just to see if it felt as wet as it looked - that was all, she told herself.
Without warning she was sent off her feet and into the ocean and no longer aware of which way was up and which was down. Her winter coat hung heavy on her frame, weighing down her arms as she frantically tried propelling her body upwards. At one point she thought her hand had surmounted the waves and found crisp air, but that was quickly destroyed by another vicious swell of the tide that plunged her back into the unwelcoming deep. This, she decided, was not what she meant when she said she wanted to be lost at sea.
Fighting for breath Amber hopelessly gulped for air but only felt water fill her lungs all too quickly. It was as if a weight had been attached to her foot, struggling organs and quickly extinguishing oxygen sending her away from the little light she could see. Everything was being swallowed up by the darkness quicker than she could panic about it. Her thoughts turned quiet, limbs useless and flimsy while her eyes failed to stay open. Then suddenly, without a moment between, she breathed and found air - not water. Her lungs immediately tried rejecting the briny liquid inside, coughing until her knees gave out and sent her crashing into the narrow wooden platform she’d been hauled on. As her surroundings solidified, she noticed the new weight of an arm around her waist, keeping her firmly in place as the platform jerked forward and bumped against the side of a ship. She was vaguely aware of being supported onto the deck and having something warm and dry placed across her shoulders, voices asking questions and the unrelenting heaviness of her head. It was only when an out of focus figure squeezed her shoulder and she mustered the energy to raise her head that she saw past the boat and into the view beyond. Specifically, the most stunning sunset she had ever seen.
Amber collapsed onto the ship deck.
this is the first time in about four years that i’m uploading a fic and boooy am I nervous
