qWilbur is an absent parent anon here o/ I just wanted to add two things. One being that I didnt mean that as Wilbur neg (cc or qWilbur) but I guess it technically is?? Second the reason im not sure its neg is cause im not mad that qWilbur is an absent dad. Like I dont think that makes him a bad person, character, or father even!! I dont think an absent parent always means to hurt their kid nor dose it mean they love them any less HOWEVER just because you dont mean to hurt someone dosnt mean you didnt hurt them! One at a time unfortunately) What I meant originally tho is that I just find it odd that everyone (again including ccWilbur) refuses or just dosnt want it to be canon that hes absent but like...he cant make Talullah just be okay with it and he cant just make it canon that we wasnt gone for months on end and like he seems to have this idea that that would make him a "bum" or like an asshole or something. I dont get why not make it a part of his character? I mean Tallulah clearly has! I dont get the aversion to a clear character arch or an internal struggle for him inside of the roleplay! I mean maybe because its forced on him and he wants to make his own character choices and not have it be affected by his lack of availability IRL but like...sorry buddy thats not how this server works! Its not a video game you can pause, Tallulah isnt a NPC virtual egg. Shes played by an admin who isnt going to wait for Wilbur to come back just to be able to tell her own story. I DONT KNOW MAN like if he really dosnt want to play an absent father, if he really dosnt want to roleplay that and have that just be something in the narrative he confronts and overcomes in some way with her then like...can he at least DM her or something and get it sorted cause its just odd to have him not want it but have her actively playing it up. How did you get into dsmp, when did it start, who are your favs, who do you dislike, any hot takes, what did you think of the finale, what species do you hc the characters

1. i started watching dreams content early april 2020, at a little before 3 mil subscribers! i started watching dteam clips not too long after and so knew about the dream smp’s existence early early on, before there was lore. however i only used youtube at the time and didn’t even know there was lore at all until i saw sad-ist’s first dsmp animation (i have been a fan of hers since i was around twelve or thirteen; its funny that the dsmp introduced a lot of people to sad-ist but for me sad-ist introduced me to the dsmp!) a couple months later when lore started really picking up i started posting more about it on social media.

2. i think youre asking for fave characters, in which case im pretty basic. top five are likely gonna have to be 1) c!dream, 2) c!quackity, 3) c!sam, 4) c!tommy, and then i’d say c!techno, c!niki, and c!tubbo are all tied for fifth!

3. i wouldnt say i outright dislike any characters. i personally never really cared for c!schlatt and i especially havent really cared much for c!wilbur since like, the election arc. nothing against them personally, or fans of those characters, they just dont really interest me personally. that might change soon though!!

4. i suppose my only real hot take is that again, the justification for what c!dream went through during prison arc can easily be used to justify what c!tommy went through during exile arc; i believe there are certain things that no one can deserve to go through and torture/manipulation like that are two of those things. i’ve already said that before but its really my only lore hot take i’d say i can word well (i have a lot of thoughts in my head and never have ANY idea how to word them 😭)

as for any hot takes regarding ccs, i wouldnt say i have any big ones either but they might put me in hot water with some people anyway LOL. i believe that everyone should be given chances to change for the better and that a person having bigoted views in the past because of how they were raised and no longer having them in the present is a Good Thing!! no one should be expected to be perfect for their entire lives. positive change is always good i think and it should be encouraged, for any cc and person in general. finally regarding any friendships in the dsmp that are broken now, i dont want to blame one single person in any friendship. we don’t know what fully happened behind the scenes and nor should we ever - its private.

5. this question ended up being perfect timing because i JUST caught up on the finale like two hours ago 😭 havent watched all the full streams but have seen the major clips so i could understand what happened. i was actually just about to post about it, but i loved it!! i’m a big c!discduo apologist and enjoy how it handled both their characters. c!tommy did do bad things (though that doesnt mean he deserved the bad things done to him)!! c!dream did a Lot of bad things (though that doesn’t mean HE deserved the bad things done to him)!!

i thought the way it handled their characters was pretty good for a minecraft roleplay and i find the fact that it caused so much discourse (especially about someone who from what i know wasnt even a main writer for it?) pretty stupid lmao. especially when i see tommy fans saying the finale sucked when from what i know tommy was one of the people who had a huge part in writing it?? lmao 😭 (not hating on tommy or his fans i just think its funny). i think that expecting a perfect and neat story of abuse on a MINECRAFT ROLEPLAY full of a bunch of minecraft streamers in their teens/early twenties was asking for disappointment.

i think the finale ended up being really profound especially with the irl stuff going on at the time (and what was to come in the future). how broken friendships played such a huge role on the server and just a year or so later many of the irl friendships would be broken. one thing that especially got to me was how much of a point was made that immortality wasnt right and it was important to live your life and enjoy it with the people you love while you can; that the best things are temporary because you can appreciate them. it was a natural evolution of c!dreams character of course (a necromancer who wanted his world to go back to how it used to be) but the fact that the finale streams happened only a few months after techno’s actual passing was not lost on me.

as for the final couple minutes themselves, i am a little conflicted. i would have loved the story to end with everyone keeping their memories and the idea that they’ll have to figure out how to live after doing everything theyve done; how to make peace with everyone WITH their memories. i’m not sure how season 2 would have gone but the fact is that we’ll never get a season 2 and that this is the ending we’re left with. especially how in a way c!dreams plan to “reset” the server seemed to come to fruition; i think it would have been a better ending for his and the other characters if again they had to live with their memories of what theyd done and try to move on like that. it wasnt really the type of ending that i was hoping the dsmp would have, but i think it served its purpose well. love the c!discduo being friends though!! and i also love seeing fics that take place during “season 2” and after the nuke went off, those always end up being super interesting to me.

6. any of my species headcanons are EXTREMELY basic lmao. duck hybrid c!quackity, creeper hybrid c!sam, goat hybrid c!tubbo, etc etc. i have no big headcanons i’d say - i totally see c!tommy and c!dream as both being 100% human though. i’d say thats my only real headcanon regarding hybrids and species. ive got a lot of headcanons but not too much about that specifically.

you gotta understand. none of the ccs ever expected the batshit insane amount of attention the dsmp got, and its much more deeper then "clout."

it started off as a regular smp, to a roleplaying one, and then eventually it reached a point where the viewers treated it SO seriously that alot of ccs felt like they couldnt log on if they werent roleplaying or doing something big. i remember puffy used to do pranks sometimes, but stopped because she messed with an item/building of tommys and EVERYONE lashed out on her. do you know how much hate niki got for literally just being there? the existence of "theres only one main plot and everything else are side gigs that dont really matter" destroyed the servers creativity. and whats upsetting is that i think i remember eret saying how some ccs wanted to do lore, but never were able to because either it would disrupt the main storyline, it would in roleplay damage something important or "historical," or straight up just lack of communication.

there were also other factors that made dsmp infamous. like how dream would just. constantly start up/get into some random twitter drama every single week, and then apologize, only to repeat the exact same mistakes again. i used to be a fan of the dreamteam, but i lost all of my fucking patience after two years of no improvement.

chats werent well moderated, but how could you even handle chat with that large of a viewership? tommy was averaging 200K. TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND. that still is unbelievable to me to this day 😭

so much babying, backseat gaming, spam, and ooo boy the trauma dumping was insane. particularly in philza and badboyhalo streams.

the ccs did their best to make a story and have their characters do cool shit. its unfair to literally blame the server dying on them. it was also literally the middle of quarantine. not very happy times.

everything and more, along with just a general lost of interest both on the cc and the fandoms part, was what killed off the server. the passing of techno was the nail in the coffin for the fandom and the ccs.

its super understandable that most dont really talk about it, or sometimes make jokes on what a terrible server it was. but yeah like you literally quoted phil saying how he hated dsmp only to say it was fun. it wasnt a perfect server, and i am also upset at how things ended because dsmp was something that got me through my worst moments in life, but its extremely unfair to blame the ccs.

i had extremely mixed feelings about dsmp after everything thats happened (dreams shitshow, georges literal fucking crimes, sapnaps shit personality, the WHOLE wilbur soot shitshow and also actual crimes) but that day tommy streamed with technodad to revisit old worlds of the dsmp, and how it was viewed through a nostalgic and a drama free lens, made me realize. i really did enjoy that crazy server, and i still love it present day. what tommy said at the end of the stream was exactly what i and alot of people needed to hear.

how the dsmp isnt about the ccs, but its about the story and characters in it, and how theres no shame in enjoying something like that. its also about keeping technos legacy alive.

we should all listen to what tommy said tbh. i wish more people did.

This is a bit of a rant. Something that feels so wrong to me on twitter is the fact that people genuinely think that the end of the dsmp meant the end of anything related to the series, when the dsmp ended people left because of their own personal issues and feelings. The fans moved on and then the stories that could have happened were lost. Think about the stories that because of the fandom’s response to even seeing dsmp, were lost. I think back to how when Ponk expressed interest in doing projects on the dsmp, her fans fucking freaked, thusly they stopped any mention of a new dsmp project.

The DSMP isn’t lost media because of lost streams or lack of content, it’s lost media because the streamers never came back to something that they enjoyed doing.

I think of the creators who actually credit their time in the dsmp as a way to grow their audience and now don’t mention it because it’s not a project that is still happening. I think of Eret just occasionally talking about the fun they had on the server, what their plans for their story and them actually acknowledge the existence of their time on the dsmp. Fundy had an interview a few months back and he fully acknowledged that he used clickbait to make it in the mcyt bubble. There are former dsmp creators who acknowledge, express admiration for being on the project and then leave it be. They are few and far between.

More and more I see creators who were in the space are stupidly trying to get the high of 2020-2022. Trying to get to those extreme heights and now they figure that dissing the dsmp as it’s no longer ‘cool’ and ‘popular’ to have any positive thoughts on it. Philza in particular is the one that comes to mind with the ‘i’d rather gauge my eyes out then ever go back the dsmp’ comment which he later went back on like ‘oh I actually had a good time’. I never have appreciated any of the comments considering my favorite person from the dsmp often talked about how much he enjoyed playing on it. How he died not thinking he wouldn’t be able to finish his storyline but he did. The storyline he started became buried in the sands of the dsmp.

Techno’s legacy as a member of the dsmp is one that had a great impact on so many people who now don’t even have that. The creators who decided clout was worth more than being able to be able to communicate with each other.

Complain all you want about Dream’s ‘lack of communication’ but it seems now knowing about the fuck show that has been about any fucking drama that has happened in the past year, everyone of these fuckers can’t fucking communicate.

Now creator want come back pretending to have enjoyed the project and now their fans are being annoying about how much they thought it ‘could have been so much better if x,y,z’ and really it’s their creator’s fault. It’s their own fault for not just realizing that they may have not actually enjoyed the dsmp. The fans are the reason the dsmp was dead. Because to dteam+munchymc fans we desperately miss the dsmp. Techno fans do too. The fans of the dsmp are not the ones that are coming back, it’s the ones that stayed.

I just am having so many issues with the current ‘dsmp discourse’ and it stems from idiots being idiots.

but when he finally settles in and gets comfortable, he’s showing the same energy

idk why but something about him makes me think that if you feel tired and want to go back to your hotel room, he’d go with you just to make sure you get there safe

he probably also needs a break from being around everyone else for a moment too LMAO

i could also see him searching far and wide in the artist alley for fanart of himself AHAHAH

walking around with him in the convention consists of someone yelling “BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD” every 5 minutes but you don’t really mind

eventually everyone brings themselves to go back to their own room except tommy who won’t budge

[brothers au] something more lore than character centric for once

i mentioned the Immortal Council for Mortal Protection a bit ago and i wanted to expand on a few key bits of the lore

basically, the way the minecraftverse works as far as im concerned is as follows:

central hub and server portals, this ive seen other people do and i like it quite a bit, however, theres more than a few hubs actually, think of the portal world as a mix of the hypixel lobby and a minecraft overworld in hardcore mode. Hubs are usually divided by language, but some people who move around between worlds a lot might want to construct a personal hub, this is basically the save selection screen but cooler, while a public hub is more like the server selection screen

a fair few people live in the hub world, there's settlements all around, its usually older or retiered players, though a lot of travellers also tend to stay in the hub for extended periods of time, people who dont have a home server also tend to have houses or camps in the hub world. Grian, for example, spent a few decades travelling around the hub world after he left the watchers, and so did wilbur for that matter, its where he met sally, actually.

while the hub is the main way people get around servers, it's not the only one, a few servers are connected, hermitcraft 8 and empires 1 were, though if you were to try and go into them now youd find ruins, and not much more.

Now, on the Immortal Council for Mortal Protection:

it was founded a few tens of thousands of years back, after a war that happenned with a fair few of the gods and a big chunk of mortal populations.

the heads of it are chosen democratically by players of all kinds, currently, it is currently noxite at the head and scott and simon hypixel as the backups (im sorry my brain can find the proper word)

the council is massive, a lot of servers have a rep, though it is a bit restricted as there has to be a sizeable amount of immortals on the server or it be incredibly large scale.

X and Sap are reps for HC and DSMP respectively

Gods with large religions also are part of the council, as they kind of head a large group of people.

There is an important distinction here, however, not all immortals are Gods, while Mumza is a god, phil is not, he is a prominent immortal figure, sure, but as the angel of death he does not recieve the title of God, though a few have ventured to say that perhaps he should. G and Tech are both in the council, however, they rarely appear, as they have Kristin or X to relay messages, they fill in for them on occassion.

Immortals come in all shapes and sizes, Gods, Myths, vampires and sirens, demigods and chosen heroes, and, in the case of joe hills and to some extent cleo, people who refuse death.

While immortals arent exactly rare, most players are mortals, as a general rule of thumb most of the ccs are immortal, but this isnt always true, a lot of them started as mortal and just sort of became immortal at some point.

This world, after all, functions a bit like warhammer orks belief system, where the more people believe something the more true it becomes.

WATCHERS

Watchers have changed a lot through time, in the old days, there were only three we know, Xelqua, Doblas and Pix. Grian, Elrubius and Pixlriffs, though they weren't the original watchers, all three of them were taken from their homes in an effort to expand. The original watchers are known to do this, and some groups of them still do, though most watcher groups nowadays are a lot more agreeable as more and more of the taken rebel, there is still hundreds of watchers who follow the old way, and all three of the known ones have targets on their backs.

A few of the taken, who are not known to be watchers to the public include, Pearl, Vegetta777 and interestingly Quackity.

The followers of the old ways, the ones we usually think of when saying watchers, dont like the council that much, and thend to start shit. However, a lot of the taken who have actually managed to flee align themselves much closer to the council, though there are of course theo ones who don't take sides.

Watchers have a lot of interesting skills, mostly to with code magic and server control, theyre quite similar to admins in that regard, if a bit more powerful, as the magic comes from within them, and they dont just channel it from consoles and command blocks.

There is three large divisons of watchers, the followers of the old ways, where a vast majority of watchers are, they watch and they value discipline. The followers of Pixlriffs, also known as the historians in some legends, these watchers dedicate to archiving worlds and stories, they value knowledge highly. And finally, the modders, this group, originally started by Doblas, pride themselves on creativity, they shape the worlds around them in ways others could never, and share that with the world. Xelqua never did start his own division, he never wanted to be a watcher to begin with, and as time goes on, the name fades, only a few have the power to speak it nowadays, other titles fit the man better.

(im sorry for sending an ask about this, i just personally didn't want to rb dsmp lore discussion on my blog but i had some thoughts on the techno post you made? feel free to ignore this completely)

I guess.. part of my (personal) reservation with the idea that ctechno had no idea of pogtopia's goals is that the majority of people aren't agreeing with him and wilbur.

frankly, wilbur's the only other person (to my memory) who brings up destroying the gov instead of just taking it over, while in the clips you showed tommy, tubbo, and quack all show that they DONT want that. why is he believing wilburs word on pogtopia's goals over anyone elses? ESPECIALLY as an anarchist, this should be a communal decision and not one made by the "leader" aka wilbur. and majority says no. at the very least, the lack of unity in making a decision (especially such a big one) should make him less sure about the shared end goal.

that, combined with the fact that he immediately put aside the opportunity to learn more about pogtopia's goals ("we'll burn that bridge when we come to it") puts a sour taste in my mouth because it instead feels to me like he instead didn't bother to try and communicate to make sure they had the same goals.

while i completely get the point you made abt wanting to avoid infighting (before a major battle especially), when multiple different people suddenly seemingly have a different goal than you, its something you should want to clear up to make sure no misunderstandings happen-- bc thats exactly how both sides end up "betraying" one another when in reality they were never on the same side to begin with. its not something that SHOULD be left to deal with later, so him pushing for that makes it feel to me instead that he just doesnt.... want to deal with it.

in short, i feel like despite what you said there was still reasonable doubt in the goals of pogtopia (via a lack of unity in the goal at hand) that techno just... didn't bother to look into or check beyond his intial thoughts. even with the rumors of a traitor, a majority of (or at least multiple) members disagreeing on such a fundemental point don't (to me) get rid of that existing doubt.

I understand your point is that he was out of the loop and thus came to his own conclusions on pogtopia's purpose, and i agree! i think instead the issues people have w techno and pogtopia is techno's not attempting to get into the loop, which is a pattern that continues into later arcs-- he jumps into things without full information on the situation or context, but assured that he's right regardless of how little he actually knows (eggpire, dream in prison, etc)

again-- i realize we have benefit of the omniscient viewer so signs become much more obvious to us, and even then characters are allowed (and encouraged!) to have fatal flaws like techno (often, imo) working off of incomplete information and not trying actively to fill in those gaps! but... idk, it still a point i also get feeling very irritated by (again, esp from our POV), bc he's so sure he's right when he's often clueless and it can be frustrating and unsatisfying to watch.

I mean the thing is that the original members of Pogtopia were Wilbur, Tommy and Techno, right? With Tubbo joining right after.

And as far as I can tell, Tommy never said anything about wanting to reinstall a government, at least not when Techno was there to hear it, he was actually the one who on day one was talking about how they no longer had their titles and would be equal from now on while Wilbur was still clinging to the idea of being the president. Tommy was very insistent on "taking back" L'Manburg and on not blowing it up, but again: nothing about a government. (And as we found out later, Tommy didn't even want to be a president in the end. He wasn't actually motivated by political power, and honestly I think a lot of the time he was kinda just going along with it because he felt like that was what he was supposed to strive for.)

Tommy seemed to be satisfied with the plan to only blow Manburg up IF nothing else works, right? But there was never any talk about objecting to the anarchism afterwards.

On top of that, Pogtopia was effectively an anarchist commune, or close enough, despite Wilbur kind of taking a leadership role in an informal way, so it makes sense to assume that the people who made it and the people who joined it would approve of that kind of social system, right?

I mean is it a bit naive of him? Yes, definitely, but I really don't think it's unreasonable. If people are joining your anarchist commune and your vocally anarchist cause (as of after the Red Festival at least, when Wilbur gets on fully board the anarchy train), you'd think they would be fine with that. You'd think that if they weren't fine with it they'd start their own separate movement, or something.

(This is actually what I thought would happen at the time! I thought Wilbur, Techno and Dream would team up and Tommy, Tubbo and Niki would form their own group and then recruit others. But it didn't end up happening, probably because Tommy is too loyal to Wilbur to let him go, and Niki probably cared about Wilbur too much too. Idk.)

Or if not, then you'd think they would protest the anarchism a bit louder and even if Techno himself missed this, it wouldn't be weird of him to assume that Wilbur would tell him if there was so much ideological conflict going on. (And as we found out yesterday, Wilbur was well aware and kept Techno in the dark intentionally.) Techno trusted Wilbur to do the talking to the others, he even said as much in the stream after the Red Festival. Techno is obviously not very good at the whole socialising thing himself and he knows it.

But all Techno heard about was the whole "to bomb or not to bomb" question, and this has nothing to do with what you do afterwards. You don't have to bomb the country to make it anarchist after all.

Another factor here, which is another example of Techno being kind of naive, is that as he says in the narration of his video, he thought that the people who had been victimised by the government would understand better than anyone that such a system could not be allowed to stand. (He made this mistake AGAIN with Tommy after exile, thinking that surely this time Tommy would come to agree with him.)

So idk if this answer satisfies you at all, but I don't really have time to work in this any more than this, I've already spent way too much time on Tumblr today :| (this is also why I don't have the time to condense this down to a reasonable length either)

I guess what I'd say is that Techno was definitely naive and affected by confirmation bias and kind of a recluse and a bit of an edgelord individualist at least early on, which are genuine flaws of his, but I think his conclusions are fairly reasonable anyway. And he was being intentionally misled by Wilbur. Also he was very vocal about his own ideology and goals while the other Pogtopians never said anything to him about disagreeing with those goals, up until Quackity and Tubbo right before battle. "Taking back L'Manburg" just isn't specific enough here, Techno never had anything against reclaiming the country from Schlatt, obviously, he even made his fireworks in L'Manburg colours in support of the cause.

And I do think that there is more fault on the side of the other Pogtopians for leading him on, even if they did it unintentionally and just weren't considering his opinions. Which is what seems to have happened, they knew he was an anarchist but they just sort of dismissed the significance of this. Quackity is the first one to actually bring this up as a potential problem and he does it by accusing Techno of potentially becoming a traitor, not by trying to negotiate with him or hear him out. And Tommy just told Techno to shut up while they were talking about who the next president should be.

They all knew that he was an anarchist, they just didn't think it was important. I mean I think they just kinda assumed that he knew the plan, to be fair, after all Wilbur obviously knew it too, but it's still kinda dismissive lbr.

And to be honest this is something that happens in real life a lot too, to anarchists who try to work with non-anarchist groups for a common goal. Our concerns tend to be dismissed and it's kinda just assumed that we'll just go along with it anyway because we're usually the minority. And we tend to be the first ones to get kicked out when we're no longer convenient. That's my experience anyway. And yes, it does feel like we're being used when that happens. The difference is, I guess, that we usually see it coming because we've learned from history and past experiences. Techno apparently hasn't.

if its a memory wipe im killing myself Hope that helps BUT i also have a few reasons why i dont think it will be. a) i dont think the smp would be as enthusiastic as they seem to be for whatever dream has planned if it was a memory wipe. we can look at it from a passion/sentimentality point of “they care too much abt what theyve already put into the story/developing their characters” but even from a logic standpoint it makes no sense. no one on that server that very few ppl have motivation for would suddenly become excited at the idea of having to “start fresh” but not even genuinely start fresh as theyd still have to adhere to whats around them. plus having to remake dynamics that were heavily cc-based anyways takes so much effort specifically bc they would be different from the original lore which was build on, again, the ccs actual dynamics that evolved over time. i just dont see the ccs, esp someone like tommy for instance who has said hes excited for what dream has planned, to be motivated by any form of a memory wipe.

b) i feel like dream (cc) sees and understands the value in the dynamics that currently exist in the smp and wouldnt change and discard them to that extent, both as a storyteller/lorehead but also career/retention-wise. do i see him creating an event that fucks up/twists/moves around the dynamics? absolutely. completely amnesia tho? no. hes a smart guy and one of the people most invested in the lore (and probably the lore-based community as a result) he KNOWS what ppl like and what keeps them here and there no way he doesnt see the personalities, histories and evolved dynamics as what does that, at least partially

c) it would be too much work + wouldnt make people log on a lot or in massive crowds. usually what makes ppl log on both in large amounts and consistently is 1. a set goal/focus 2. knowing other ppl are on 3. being able to do what makes them comfortable. 1 and 2 are self explanatory but with 3 i mean that ppl who dont want to do lore/dont enjoy doing heavy intense lore where they have to be in character all the time would not like or be comfortable with a memory wipe where they have to pretend and stick to that basically the whole time, esp if they cant rmr each other. imagine someone like tubbo for instance wanting to slip into casualness and just play and half talk to chat half be involved and slipping up about the memory stuff and getting frustrated like thats super real. amnesia would be terrible for morale and is just too much investment for a ton of them and wouldnt motivate ppl to log on (at least in the long run)

ok now that ive explained myself about this: what do i think it could be

i am a huge believer in the apocalypse theory/things similar. it would be a perfect ripple in the dynamics currently set without damaging, eroding or erasing them. it also would be able to give a goal/focus for the ccs which is one of the biggest motivators for ppl logging on which is also part another motivator which is literally just ppl being there when u log on/logging on with u. and it also lets ppl interact with lore and intensely or casually as they want as there is nothing they have to commit to the whole time or force them to go in and out of “lore mode” awkwardly. they can do whatever they want and say whatever they want, it is just up to them how in character they want to be and they can hang out and be with whoever fits their vibes the best in that sense, or go back and forth.

it just does what the reboot/update SHOULD do: give purpose in playing again, refresh whats already there, make things less ridged, let ppl start fresh without actually starting fresh and most importantly: LETS PPL HAVE FUN! and whether fun is lore breathing into a mic for an hour or a chill mining stream to prepare for whatever the apocalypse has caused/is or just fucking with your friends—this specific kind of reboot lets all of those co-exist if they want it to.

as for ur ideas: in my heart of hearts i dont want to believe it but the “im going to make ur life a living hell etc” line seems to be referencing the boy who cried wolf plot which is. Dead in the ground i fear <- says through gritted teeth. i would LOVEEEEEE if that line became important again but i just feel like all its implications have kind of been abandoned, at least what they used to be. and about ppl mostly liking cdream hmmm ….. i dont know how much that will play a role if things got rebooted, especially regarding ctommy. i dont think anything like final disc finale but with cdream and ctommys role reversed will happen. no one/not enough ppl on the server is cdreampilled OR ctommynegpilled enough for anything like that. plus a big fight wouldnt cause this much excitement (although i do wonder if the revamp is partially pvp based bc with how excited cctommy sounded about it, it definitely could be. thats something he rly enjoys and likes about minecraft and dsmp like he mentioned it in the tribute video (like the battles he had with dream being his fav)). that last point IS interesting tho hmmm ….. maybe it was just stating a fact rather than it being foreshadowing? although cdream hasnt used cwilbur enough as leverage for me to think theyre done/didnt have anything else planned for that. either way tho, im not sure how much that involves the update since i think for it to make EVERYONE excited, it has to be something that involves the entire smp/affects it all/everyone, not just the big three

Ranboo was p much the only reason that made an actual attempt to support Tommy during exile (doesnt even matter if the visits from other ppl are canon or not)

Ranboo is the only person next to Sam who knows about what was going on. And while Ranboo doesnt have the full picture, thanks to the letters he and tommy were exchanging he is pretty much the only one who really knows how Tommy was taking everything. Sam only knows what Dream told him and even Dream only witnessed the Tommy Tommy was acting as when Dream was visiting.

The time they hung out at Technos. Cant really put into words what i mean by that but yeah. Its something.

Ranboo being outed as a traitor by Dream in front of everyone (including Tommy) (like you cant tell me Tommy just casually witnessed that and that he just. Doesnt mind or have an opionion on that.)

Tommy denying Ranboo hanging with him and Techno to protect him. Which is very similar to the whole trial about burning down georges house thing.

Ranboos speech about chosing people not sides, which tommy didnt get to witness but. Please? Its such a big part of ranboo and we got pretty much every persons opinion on it. Tommys should be especially interesting on that because its very connected to his character.

Ranboo living with Techno and Philza. Again, Tommy doesnt know about that (i think?) but its important enough that itd influence their interactions. Its something thats influenced every interaction ranboo had with other ppl, even when they dont know.

Just. They had incredibly personal conversations despite their relatiobship being extremely new.

Like, tommy got ranboo to help him rob george pretty much after just meeting him, it was like a bonding activity. A week later or so he got exiled. And like that week of barely even knowing each other already formed a strange bond. Tommy told Ranboo about his Dreams of Wilbur, about his insecurities and fears. He showed Ranboo, someone who he barely knew an emotional vulnerability I cant remember him showing even Tubbo or Wilbur at that point. And him defending Ranboo and taking the blame completely on himself mattered so much to ranboo that he really made a great effort to keep up communication. He visited him. He gave him a netherite pickaxe i think and made the effort to try and tell tommy that it wasnt out of pity or being a kind person but because of tommy protecting him before exile. Which is reassurance tommy definitelly needed at that time. Ranboo is one of the people who have actually never wronged or rather hurt tommy in any way. Even tubbo did exile him and ignored his existence for a longass time, and while we can understand while he did it and tommy understands why he did it, thats still a way in which tubbo absolutely hurt him. But ranboo hasnt. Mostly because he wasnt on the server for long enough to, before doomsday rolled around, but still. I mean thats most likely why tommy was able to open up to ranboo during the time they didnt know if hed be exiled or not. And they also have the whole dream thing in common.

Like. Just have them interact. I think it might probably be for future lore but quite frankly wtf. Its unnatural at this point how they just. Dont interact nor seem interested in the other person anymore.

Did i miss something? Did i just write this rant like a fool for no reason because i missed like 10 minutes of lore that make all of this invalid? Idk!

Don't think Wilbur will do that bc as far as I am aware, Ranboo likes to write his own lore and he has various docs about facts and reasons behind his character, so no one but him can handle his character the best. Besides, I don't think Wilbur would do it out of his own will as he expressed some discomfort at writing the story himself. So yeah, maybe they will overlap from Tubbo's side, but it's highly unlikely that will happen. Unless Ranboo aks ofc

like i hipe this doesn’t come across rudely but he doesn’t really like to interact with other characters for lore as often as, say, tommy does. i think that’s probably more of a social anxiety thing on cc!ranboos part though— tommy can go up to people mid-stream and interact with them, since pretty much everyone understands he’s always somewhat in character— even tubbo is kind of like that— but ranboo prefers to be either OUT of character or IN, and spends his time underground mining and not talking to anyone. his lore streams are highly focused on himself, although sam has been involved once or twice because the prison.

but yeah that’s a big factor that saddens me like— i wish we could have more casual lore with him like tommy and tubbo used to do during pogtopia days o(-( what does c!ranboo get up to on regular days? who is he friends with? can we see his everyday opinions and values in action? that kind of thing.

not that i dont like heavy lore streams (i do!) i just think we should have the milder ones in between that instead of the gigapauses

My take on the Jack Manifold being killed by Tommy discussions

This is written so someone who isnt caught up can understand, so lets start at the beginning, Jack Manifolds ad Tommys relationship. Irl Jack and Tommy are very close, but I don’t think they had a strong established relationship in character before exile, especially because Jack was mia for a lot of lore? Many relationships on the smp get taken from the ccs dynamics before the smp (wilbur and tommys mentor/brotherhood, puffychus date), which is why they have been interpreted as close? Jack was part of lmanburg and they have interacted for sure, so I think its fair to say they were friends in roleplay, even if not like,, best friends

during exile, jack visited Tommy- well, tried to visit. Tommy punched him off the bridge in the nether and made sure he died. Jack lost all his stuff and was pissed offed - but that was about it.

The tone of the visit could maybe be compared to the one with Mamacita and Mexican Dream? It was in character, but it wasn’t... serious?

It feels wrong to call it “friendly banter” when mexican dream died, but you cant call it a “Building Character Moment For TommyInnit” either. Jacks visit was similar.

At that point, neither Jack nor Tommy refered to the death as “canon” - the wiki did, however. Not sure what happend there, but it was listed as Jacks second death and when he died on Doomsday, went to hell and back - that part of lore doesn’t work without Tommy killing him.

After Jack came back from hell, he started a bigger character arc with Niki revolving around taking revenge on tommyinnit. Killing him until he is dead permanently. And while that is not presented as the right thing to do - both niki and jack consider their characters villains - its not irrational or without motive.

Tommy has made mistakes and hurt people - whether these were justified is in the eye of the beholder.

For Jacks arc right now, Tommy killing him is an important motivator and a driving point for his plot. Nothing about Jacks current character would be the same without it. Because he acknowledged the death and it was on the wiki for the longest time, its generally considered canon by the fandom.

So, case closed? Tommy killed a man while depressed in exile- yeah, that doesn’t sound right.

A Tommyinnit analysist pointed that out,, earlier today? Thats why we are having this discussion right now. I’m not sure they would appreciate me mentioning their username here, but ive read their analyses before and theyre great, they have a lot of interesting thoughts, and i agree with them bringing this up!! please never send hate to anyone about character analysis!! some people (like me) actually do this for fun.

so, i dont want to touch exileinnit to much, there is a lot to talk about, but... TommyInnit would kill somebody without a second thought. Canon deaths are heavy, theyre big, theyre- and you cannot compare this to punz killing wilbur! Yeah, that wasnt a big character moment for punz, but on one hand hes a mercenary, killing people is kind of part of his job, and on the other hand- the story around lmanburg is not a character focused one, thats a big part of wilburs writing. His main goal is progressing the geopolitical plot and let the character be shaped by it - themes like personal conflict seem less big when there is the fate of a country on your hands.

The exile arc is an entirely character focused story. It deals with themes like mental illness and inner turmoil... do you think it would pass the chance on discussing tommys feelings about killing someone? A past friend, no less?

Murdering someone, on purpose, completly changes the morality of tommys character, and im not ready to commit to that.

There are more reasons I think this, ask me to elaborate if you want, but in my eyes there is no way that Tommy could kill someone in exile with it still being consistent with his character.

So, whats the conclusion?:

TommyInnit killing Jack Manifold is canon in Jacks story, but isn’t canon in Tommys. There is no other way eithers devolopment makes sense otherwise.

This is it. An inconsistency. A plain old plothole.

Oh no, the cinematic masterpiece (/s) that is the dream smp has a plothole, what do we do now?:

...move on? There is no way discussing this will change anything. This type of inconsistency is unique to the dream smp as a medium where the creators have a direct dialogue with the fanbase. This is not the first or last time the wiki has made weird deaths canon, I personally disagree that quackity and schlatt died in the explosion of tubbos execution. This doesnt do against the wiki writers or anything, you guys are so important for this community, but you do stand in direct contact with the creators - an active fan would have probably more, but more importantly different, knowledge of the lore than 90% of the members.

Dont be harsh on the fans, dont be harsh on the ccs, we are exploring a new type of mass reaching story telling here guys.

how do we still make this consistent for the storyline?:

this is where the analysis ends, we are diving more into headcanon territory, but I choose to believe that this was a canon death, but tommy didnt realize it is. In my opinion this just feeds into Jacks themes of being ignored, not taken seriously, etc.

tldr: while tommy killing jack was considered canon for a long time, it doesnt work if you want to have tommys character make sense. Instances like this, where dubious canon gets reinterpreted later happen because of the dream smps unique type of storytelling and should not be a reason for conflict in the fandom.

(THIS IS A PART 2 TO ‘WHO AM I WITHOUT YOU,’ WHICH YOU CAN READ HERE)

A/N: Hi hello guys, I finished it like I promised, not really sure if I like the ending but you know it is the way it is. I would really appreciate some feedback on this because I dont really have any idea if you like this or not :)

Summary: What would’ve happened if the others didn’t get to Tommy and Tubbo in time? 

Warnings:  Swearing, violence, major character death, manipulation, lore spoilers

Word count: 2.4k 

“Alright, now I can take you to the real discs.” Dream said as Tubbo walked towards him. “What- and why now?” His questions were ignored by Dream who simply said to follow him. 

Dream took the lead as Tubbo and Tommy slacked behind. The taller of the two carefully leaned down and whispered for the other to stay close. Tubbo nodded and looked back at Dream who was standing on the very edge of the tall mountain. The wind was howling and the only source of light was the moon and for a moment Tommy wondered if Dream would fall off, and considered giving him a nudge in the right direction. He didn’t have time to decide as Dream spoke again. “Be careful when you walk down.” As he said it, he stepped on a pressure plate neither of them had seen. The Redstone flared to life and started to move part of the ground out of the way to reveal a narrow staircase that had been carved out of the mountain wall. 

“So- do we go down first?” Tubbo looked at Dream who gave him a curt nod. Tubbo let out a breathy okay as a confirmation that he had understood and gestured for Tommy to follow him. Tommy carefully made his way down as to not fall off, he could hear how Dream had followed close behind them.

The previous silence was broken by Dream who now seemed much closer. “You two think you can just show up and fight me to try and take back your discs.” They were quickly reaching the end of the staircase. “As if I don’t have a plan. You think that I’m a fool but that’s not how it works, Dream chuckled as they all reached the end. They were back on the ground again, no moonlight reaching them with the mountain towering above.

Dream brought out a torch and lit it, “you know, I’ve always been one step ahead of you guys-” Tommy huffed, he just couldn’t keep quiet anymore. “You’re just pure fucking evil man-” 

“You know, Tubbo thought I was his friend, Tommy.” Dream took off his mask, showing off his smirk as he walked closer to Tommy, torch in hand. “What an idiot, right? You also thought I was your friend,” Dream’s dark eyes met Tommy’s before he continued, “I made sure no one showed up to your stupid party so your only friend would be me.”

Tommy was quickly looking over the beach decorations one last time, covering a creeper hole and setting up parasols. He was buzzing with excitement, he might get to see Tubbo today. Tommy looked at his clock and noticed how the guests should arrive in about five minutes. He decided to have one last look around to see if there was anything else to fix up.

When he found nothing to fix he decided to wait. 

And he waited,

and waited,

and when nobody came he decided to check his nether portal to see if anything had gone wrong. When he found nobody outside the nether he went in. After the sickening teleportation to the nether, he looked around. Everything looked normal. The bridge was still there, no ghast explosions preventing someone from entering. “Why- No one’s here..” He whispered to himself. Tommy decided to look around and followed the bridge back to the main portal which led to the Greater SMP. Nothing. He found no one. 

He begrudgingly made his way back to his portal, hoping that maybe they had taken another route or perhaps a detour. 

Tommy returned to the overworld and only found one person. Dream. He was sitting in one of the beach chairs, drinking one of the drinks Tommy had prepared. 

“Hello!” Dream greeted Tommy with a smile, no mask in sight. “Hi..” Tommy mumbled as he slowly walked towards him. “Where’s everyone else? I thought this was a party?” Dream asked, sounding innocent. “Uh- well, I don’t know..” Tommy sighed as he sat down next to Dream who turned to look at him, sympathy in his eyes. “Well, I was running a little late so I was surprised when no one was he-” 

Tommy suddenly stood up. A sinking feeling reaching him. He was wearing armor that he wasn’t supposed to have. He immediately took it off and gave it to Dream, ready for him to blow it up or burn it. “I’m sorry- I forgot.” Tommy stuttered and hoped Dream wouldn’t be mad. Dream raised his eyebrows in surprise, “no, no Tommy it’s fine.” He turned to look at Dream, “really?” He smiled kindly once more. “Of course, Tommy. This is a party after all.”

“Uh- well where is everyone?” Tommy asked as he made his way to the beach chair next to the one Dream sat in. “I don’t know,” Dream responded, dragging out the ‘I.’ “Wilbur sent out the invites, didn’t he?” Tommy continued to ask Dream questions, thinking of a way that something could’ve happened with the invites. But when Dream answered, letting him know that he had personally made sure that everyone knew, Tommy was speechless.

“So where is everyone then!?” Tommy could feel anger building. A slow-burning in the pit of his stomach. He wanted to break something, hurt someone. 

“Maybe they just don’t want to see you.”

“What- You did that-?” Tommy breathed, desperately trying to look anywhere but at Dream who was right next to him. He wheezed out a laugh, “yeah, and you trusted me like an idiot! The person who had been against you in every war until that point. But you were just so desperate for a friend, that even I was enough.” Tommy swallowed as he realized Dream was right, he shouldn’t have trusted him. It was so obvious now. 

“So yeah, I’ve been one step ahead of you since the beginning.” Dream declared one final time, making it clear that he was right. “And- Tubbo. The reason I have the disc is because I blew up the community house and framed Tommy.”

“You blew up-” Tubbo whispered. “-and you were dumb enough to give me the disc.” Dream mocked as he turned around towards the mountain wall.

“L’manburg is gone, I have the discs and you two at my mercy-” Dream grins maniacally as he placed the torch next to him. “Do you have any armor left?” Tommy whispered to Tubbo who replied with a frightened ‘no.’

“-Now, follow me.” Dream exclaimed as a hole in the wall emerged, leading them into a mostly empty room. The walls were covered in torches that prevented any hostile mob from entering, and on the ground, built-in Blackstone and Obsidian was a platform. “Is this a trap-” Tubbo whispered to Tommy who turned to Dream. “How do we know we’re not just going to die here?” He asked, followed by Dream chuckling. “You know I could just kill you right here, I suggest you do as I say.” 

Tubbo quickly followed Dream’s directions and stepped onto the platform. “Hey- man why the fuck are you doing as he says!?” Tommy shouted angrily as he turned to look at his friend. “I mean- we’re pretty much dead either way.” Tubbo exhaled, anyone with a brain could tell he was scared, incredibly so. 

Tommy eventually decided to step onto the platform with Tubbo. Dream swiftly followed and flipped a lever, making the platform descend. “Whoa-” Tubbo stumbled forward and grabbed onto Tommy as not to fall. “What the fuck is happening-” Tommy mumbled as the platform continued to go down and shake.

“Listen, Tommy,” Dream started, “ever since you came here you’ve been a headache. You’ve brought war, terrorism-” What Tommy figured was an elevator finally reached a giant room. The walls were built from Blackstone and small Redstone lights covered the walls. The air inside the room was almost musty, this room must’ve been built a good while ago.

Opposite of the elevator they were currently riding Tommy noticed a big nether portal and- their discs. Their discs were there. “-you’ve made everything bad! But- the cause of all the war, of everything, is attachment.” Dream looked at Tommy. “Right? Your attachment to the discs, your attachment to Henry, to pets and friends. To land and countries. To items” 

The elevator finally stopped and Tommy made a move to step off but was stopped by Dream. “That- that’s the one good thing that you’ve done. The one good thing you’ve done is bringing attachment,” Dream walked off the elevator and into the room. 

“So, it took me a long time to realize how important attachment was. But when I did I became more powerful, and I realized how important you were.” Dream continued to walk, “Tubbo, Tommy, come look.” He permitted them to step off the elevator and they did. “Come- come see your discs,” Dream said as he led them to the big podiums where they were. “They’re right here.”

Tommy cautiously made his way to Dream with Tubbo following close behind. “There’s an ender chest there..” Tommy pointed out cautiously. “Yeah, Dream began, “you could take the disc if you wanted to but it doesn’t matter. I mean- I wouldn’t do it if I were you because then Tubbo will die-” Tommy’s mouth opened in shock, what was happening? 

Dream led them to the other disc which waited on the other podium. “They’re just laying there…” Tubbo pointed out, sadness in his voice. 

“You know ever since attachment became important, I cut my attachments.” Dream said. “ I blew up my house, I lost my friends.” Dream started to corner Tommy against the cold wall. “I lost my items, my crossbow, my- you know- everything that was important to me. I cut everything off because I realized attachments give people power over each other.” 

Tommy tried to find anything to say, but couldn’t. “I mean- the reason you’re here right now is because I have these dumb little discs.” Tommy looked to Tubbo and then back at Dream, “how- how did that not hurt you?” He managed to ask. “Because I lost everything to gain everything.” Tommy scoffed and pushed Dream away from him. “You didn’t gain shit you’re a sick bastard!” he shouted, Tubbo soon joining him. “Yeah, you don’t seem to have a lot right now.” Tubbo scoffed as Dream started to raise his voice. 

“If I can control the things people are attached to, I can control the server again!” He shouted and made a move to point at the other two, “because this isn’t Tommy SMP or Tubbo SMP it’s Dream SMP, right!?” 

Dream started to walk towards the duo, making them back up into the middle of the room. “I’ve constructed.. a prison. It’s inescapable. You can’t get out.” Dream locked eyes with Tommy. “There are hundreds of thousands of stacks of Obsidian, there are elder guardians, there are guards.” Tommy gulped, “What… how..?” 

Dream smiled and turned to Tubbo, “You know, Tubbo’s a pawn. He’s a follower and I’ve used him as much as I can-” Tommy butted in again. “Tubbo’s not a follower! He was the last president of L’manburg- he’s not a fucking follower!” 

“And where is L’manburg now?” Dream snarkily replied as he continued. “I’ve already gone over this, Tubbo’s a follower-” Yet again Tommy objected. “Stop! Tubbo’s not a fucking follower! You need him as much as you need me!” Tommy shouted in Dream’s face. He scoffed, “I don’t need Tubbo at all.” Tommy pushed Dream away, “Yeah you do because without Tubbo, what am I?” Tommy hollered angrily. “Dickhead,” he added at the end. 

Dream sighed, “Tommy, you want to be a hero. You want to be the hero of the SMP. Do you know what a hero needs?” Dream asked, “An origin story. You have Tubbo.” 

Tommy was stunned, he had always read a lot with Techno as a child, and he knew what Dream meant. The person that matters most to the hero always-

“No! Absolutely fucking not!” Tommy retorted as he shoved Tubbo behind him. “No, no you- I won’t let you.” Dream smiled once more and grabbed Tommy. “Look, I want to give you a chance to say goodbye.”

Tommy tried to squirm out of his grasp, “No! We’ll get out of here like we always do, it always works out in the end, right Tubbo?” Tommy looked at Tubbo who remained silent. “You’ll get out of here Tommy, but Tubbo won’t.” 

“You know…” Tubbo finally spoke up, looking into Tommy’s eyes. “It’s fine.” 

“No.. no, no Tubbo don’t!” Tommy shouted, still trying to break free. 

“It’s about time I guess,” Tubbo sighed and looked at the ground once more. “No! No, don’t just accept it Tubbo!” Tommy hollered as tears started to gather in his eyes. 

“Goodbye, Tommy,” Tubbo whispered as he walked towards them. Dream finally pushed Tommy away and brought out his axe. “No! No Tubbo don’t!” Tommy sobbed as he stood up and started sprinting towards them. 

Before Tommy even saw it he heard the sickening sound of metal slicing skin, then came the blood. There was so much of it, coating the axe and dripping onto the floor. Tubbo soon lost his balance and fell, and Tommy was there-

“No- no Tommy, you have to jump!” Tubbo laughed as they stood on the tall structure. Tommy gulped, water bucket in hand. He was about to say something when Tubbo decided to push him off. Tommy’s scream rang out over the SMP as he fell, and right before he fell, he placed the water that would save him from the fall. Tommy shouted in triumph as he survived, but then he saw Tubbo jump. Tommy knew he didn’t have a water bucket but knew what to do when he heard Tubbo yell: “Catch me!” 

-to catch him once again. Tommy gently held him as he tried to compress the wound, as if that would help now. “Tubbo, please don’t die.. not now!” Tommy sobbed as he searched Tubbo’s face for anything other than signs of pain. Tubbo’s breathing was labored as he reached his hand to lay atop of Tommy’s. “Tubbo.. please. I can’t say goodbye.. not now!” Tommy cried as Tubbo tried to move his hand. “It- it will be okay.” he tried to reassure Tommy, he always hated to see him cry. “But.. Who- who am I without you?” Tommy stuttered as their eyes met one last time. “Yourself.”Tubbo said as the message rang out in chat.

Tommy let out a cry akin to that of a wounded animal as he buried his face in Tubbo’s chest and sobbed. He could feel Tubbo turn to dust in his arms. Every second that passed he lost more of his friend. But suddenly the silence had been broken by the swooshing noise of the nether portal.

“I’m sorry Dream, but you should’ve paid me more.”

oh i totally understand that feeling of disconnection. as it is right now, not that many plot points or stories seem to be all that connected, if at all. im not against characters forming new nations since it could add more stakes (a sort of political arc where instead of it focusing on l'manburg it focuses more on these multiple countries trying to form and make themselves independent while still trying to keep the friendships and allies they had prior) but with fundy and quackity still being part of the l'manburg cabinet it just doesnt sit right with me that they're out making new countries while still having allegiance to another (it feels like theyre giving up on l'manburg too early)

also yes!! dream doesnt even seem to acknowledge the other forming countries even though he has such a hatred towards l'manburg and has said he wants the smp to be one. this feels more like there isn't much communication about it or just that dream doesnt find them threats

and yes!! pacing the lore events! i think techno mentioned once abt how the story was moving so fast and this would honestly fix that while still giving almost daily content. plan a big event with a lot of people and instead of rushing it along because you need to get content out, just let some of the other characters that havent gotten a lot of attention take center stage

imagine if between like, todays streams and the festival (which lets just say is planned later) we got niki's lore stream she was planning (i have no clue what it would've been unfortunately since i dont watch her,,,) or we got a stream focusing on eret and her knights and we got some story regarding that or like, maybe something regarding the badlands??

basically, the progression would probably feel a lot smoother due to the story not just focusing on the same few characters or even the same plot point

also i forgot to talk abt the parallels in my last reblog SO- i dont mind them that much but i do wish they weren't so heavily focused on or referenced? like the tommy-wilbur and tubbo-schlatt parallel i feel is one that could be good! even if it does go the route where ranboo is actually the focus of the festival!! but thats only because tubbo and tommy had that little "if i can't be the next schlatt, you cant be thr next wilbur" talk early on

however when it came to, say, the stream earlier today where techno set a wither loose i feel like thats a bit ehh? because when you think "wither + l'manburg" you think of the season 1 finale. big event, destruction, etc.

meanwhile the wither today almost felt... i cant think of the word but it didnt live up to the previous event. thats a moment of parallel i felt would've been better if done at, say, another big event in l'manburg. maybe not the festival but something else where the withers would be such a big focus

ive also probably forgotten other moments of parallel but these are the two that come to mind. im not adverse to them but i do wish/hope they arent gonna be relied on for this plot (and that if the tommy-wilbur and tubbo-schlatt parallel really does come through, that it isnt an exact duplicate. its a parallel, not the same story retold)

okay seeing as mcytblr is finally starting to be a lil bit s2 critical I’m going to jump in and talk about the two things that have been bugging me about s2 for a few weeks now because I think I’m a little safer from being mass unfollowed.

Okay so the two things are: a lack of a central storyline due to an absence of communication, and the fact that there are way too many ‘parallels’.

On point 1: Dream SMP has many running storylines right now. We’ve got El Rapids, the Badlands and the egg, Tommy’s exile, Techno’s revenge at L’manberg, the Butcher Army, Eret’s Knights, and so on. And this is wonderful! These storylines are all interesting and unique in their own right. But I think the reason why I got really invested in season 1 was because ultimately, everything was pulled into one main plotline. Most people were involved in the L’manberg plot in one way or another — Pogtopia, Dream’s faction, the Badlands, even Jack Manifold. George’s cottagecore house had plot/humor significance. 

Now, Wilbur’s writing was not perfect, and the L’manberg plot was definitely Wilbur/Tommy centric. He also needed to deal with fewer subplots and characters. But you could tell each cc had a part to play in the story. And this was what I was looking forward to most in s2 — another overarching storyline, but this time with further involvement from characters and plotlines that had been more sidelined in the L’manberg conflict. We could finally see characters such as Niki, Fundy, Badboyhalo, and the Dream Team fully embrace their roles and find greater plot significance.

Except that’s not what happened, because we didn’t end up getting a second overarching storyline. I’m still holding out hope that it will happen — that the Badlands, Dream SMP faction, Drywaters, El Rapids, and L’manberg can all find a way to tie their respective storylines together. But the first step to creating that is communication. We’ve got a lot of separate parts right now. I’d like the parts to come together into a whole that’s greater than their sum. I would have preferred them to have developed alongside each otheer, so as to have a natural synthesis around each other, but what we’ve got right now is still ripe with storytelling potential. 

Okay, about point two: I made a post about this a little while back. But yeah, essentially, I feel like the L’manberg plotline has too many callbacks and parallels to s1. I feel like there’s a point where parallels just become one story bleeding into another, and the current season is skirting that line a lil bit. I know the idea that violence and trauma are cyclical is one of the themes of the SMP, but I wish there was a slightly more nuanced way to express that than just “president alone again.” “festival part 2.” “let’s get some more withers in l’manberg”. And especially if Ranboo is the one who’s gonna be in trouble at the festival, that is really going to be one parallel too many.

The thing is, I think there are several neglected plotlines that would really neatly fit into addressing both problems, if they were expanded upon more and if everyone in the SMP was made aware of them. For example:

- Ghostbur and Fundy’s conflict. This is not a parallel to anything in Season 1, but rather a resolution to it. It also involves so many major characters — Philza, Eret, even by extension Tommy and Techno. 

- Eret’s knights, and the Puffychu dilemma. Eret is king of the SMP. Essentially a puppet ruler for Dream. They’re trying to expand their power and so she’s recruited Hbomb and Puffy as knights. Meanwhile, Puffy is also pursuing a relationship with Niki, who is loyal to the L’manberg crew, who Dream opposes. This involves so many minor characters, and yet it also has the potential to involve major characters who are related to the L’manberg and Dream conflicts. Why has this left been in the wayside???

- The Badlands could be so much more than they are right now. They’ve got a huge supernatural element with the egg and also all the demon lore. How does this fit into the history of the SMP? How has Dream not dealt with them in a significant way yet, when he hates faction so much? I feel like there are so many ways Dream can get involved with the Badlands plot, since he also has a supernatural element about him, and yet there’s been nothing.

All of these plotlines fit into the themes of conflict that are so central to the SMP, but they’re not a rehash of plots that we’ve seen before in S1. They involve minor streamers who want to be a greater part of the lore. Literally there is potential here! 

Now, I will say — I do not think any of this is intentional. Some members of the SMP are naturally better at asserting themselves in the story. Every story will have bigger characters and smaller characters. However, I do think that the Dream SMP members as a whole really need to sit down and discuss what kind of role everyone wants to play in the storyline, as well as how major events will map out in the future. This will create a more immersive, enjoyable experience as a whole, with less of a sense of disconnectedness between the streamers.

I don’t want major conflict on the SMP to purely revolve around SBI + Tubbo. Communication, and treating every storyline as an equal part of the main plot, is key. Otherwise, we end up with stories that are poorly paced, disconnected, and rehashed from older material.
