WHY ARE YOU CONSULTING A SOCIAL SCIENTIST ON WHETHER ASTROLOGY COUNTS AS A SCIENCE. WHY DOESN'T ANYONE EVER CONSULT ACTUAL ASTRONOMERS. BECAUSE THEY KNOW THE ANSWER THEY'LL GET THAT'S WHY!!!
#DOES PRECESSION OF THE EQUINOXES MEAN NOTHING TO YOU PEOPLE#THE SUN ISNT EVEN IN YOUR ''SUN SIGN'' IT MEANS NOTHING !!! ITS MEANINGLESS !!!#brot posts#astro posting#'i dont know if i feel comfortable calling astrology a science' BECAUSE IT ISNT#FLAT OUT. ITS NOT.#even ignoring the fact its blatantly falsified#just . the definition of science relying on observations.#hold on let me ltierally get my fucking science research methods textbook#SCIENCE MUST BE. 1. empirical 2. systematic 3. replicable 4. self-correcting#ASTROLOGY. IS NONE OF THOSE THINGS#1. its based entirely on anecdotes 2. again its based entirely on anecdotes theres no institution no system no research#3. BECAUSE its not systematic it sure as fuck cannot be replicable#and in fact it frequently ISNT. the accuracy of astrological predictions varies so wildly from person to person#4. self correcting? well there's no institution and no repeatability and so theres no future research to constantly fact check#prior assumptions and prior research#and also even on individual cases astrologers just double down and find a loophole to work around anything that falsifies their claims#which is literally the number one sign that something is pseudoscience and not science#if you cannot feasibly falsify something without there being ten million loopholes then its just an excuse machine its not real science.#so no. just from the sheer basic definition of science and scientific research. astrology is not science.#nevermind the fact its just. its just not fucking true. nothing it predicts is true#now the OBSERVATIONS behind astrology ie the actual observing of the night sky is a different conversation#but the ASTROLOGY of it - the predictions about human beings - is pseudoscience

Making this into its own post rather than a reblog and expanding on it, not to be an edgy Reddit atheist, but I’m extremely biased against anything that purports to explain the inner workings of the universe but can’t explain it scientifically, because I don’t believe in anything that can’t be scientifically proved and I can’t respect anyone who claims to be able to predict things and then can’t explain how their pet belief actually works in reality.
I’m sort of ok with religion because generally it’s nowadays restricted itself to explaining things that science doesn’t have the answer to yet, or can’t have the answer to, like what happens after death, and even if I’d argue the fact that many religions used to claim that factually inaccurate information about our world was true says things about its accuracy in the rest of its claims, I also understand religion is and has been an important part of humanity’s history and development and isn’t going to go away soon nor should we try to force it to go away given how important it is to people’s lives (and more importantly, all the human rights abuses getting rid of it would have to entail to be even mildly successful). But any belief system that says that it can predict things about our world definitively and provably accurately, should be able to prove it scientifically, and if it can’t it should be ignored for decision making purposes, because if it isn’t provably true, it should be considered false. Making decisions about things based on your whims is fine, but you shouldn’t pretend it’s anything other than your own opinions that are guiding the choices you’re making.
The fact is, if something is true, it is also by necessity provable to exist. That is just what I believe, that if something is a factual truth, it can be proven to be one. And astrology just has not been proven to accurately predict anything whatsoever and more importantly has failed replication in every reputable and reliable scientific study ever attempted.
Astrology has no mechanism of action that could even possibly explain what it purports to be true about the universe, no logical consistency in anything it claims to be true, no reliable central body of information, no falsifiability, it is almost the textbook definition of a pseudoscience. It is exclusively able to make predictions that ‘feel’ true based on the Barnum effect, and then allows one to think they have a reliable method of telling the ‘good’ people from the ‘bad’ based on whatever reasoning feels right at the time.
And the thing is, it’s easy to say “oh, it’s just for harmless fun”, and I get it! Silly tests and sorting categories are fun, it’s why people love doing it. But I don’t think making judgments about people based on things they can’t control is ever a good thing to regularly be doing, even for yourself. It’s just opening yourself up to all sorts of nasty biases to be reading about how all people born in the month of may or whatever are demons sent from hell that ruin every life they touch, and it opens you up to other forms of pseudoscience to be willing to believe in things without evidence.
Because even if you don’t believe it, lots of people do! Like, for real believe in it enough to make major life decisions on! In China people get told not to apply to jobs if they’re a certain astrological sign! There’s a superstition in Japan about women born in the year of the fire horse being husband-killers that was so fiercely believed in that the last year of the fire horse, 1966, the birth rate dropped 25%! In India, they have services for arranging marriages that use astrology to decide who they should marry, and I don’t think it takes much to guess how that could go wrong.
There’s just no reason that in 2022 we should be endorsing judgement of other people based on immutable circumstances of their birth because it’s ‘fun’, honestly.

"People who are annoying are just doing astrology wrong" nice no true scottsman fallacy there. People find astrology insufferable because it's a pseudoscience and you aren't helping the matter by insisting there is an actual "true" way to do it that isn't just being a dick to other people for no reason.
okay but there are actual methods of doing astrology. you know that right. there is genuine math calculations to find the position of EVERY planet and relevant asteroid as well as the angles between them. they are doing astrology incorrectly bc you cannot only look at one astrology sign in isolation. that's like finding out someone is. idk. a teacher and basing every last part of their personality around the random fact about them and getting mad when they don't act like the perfect "teacher" you have envisioned in your mind. which isn't what astrology is for
astrology is a cultural practice based around the principle of things do not uniquely happen to individuals and if you look at trends long enough and chart time you can make predictions about it. empires tend to last around 200 years without major disruption. communication and technology and travel problems pop up certain times of the year. people tend to have major life changes around the age of 28-31 where they finally become fully realized adults and have to process everything that came before that. the planets and stars and asteroids do not cause these with magical space beams, humans have just been basically have the same exact fucking problems, which is kind of endearing and freeing. like wow, my life is kinda being hell right now at age 28. glad almost every other human being who has kept track of it has gone through smth similar
if you dont have an interest in it that's fine too. i dont like sitting down with random strangers i dont know and telling them about themselves based on some math i did after being forced to ask them very personal information like "where exact were you born to the closest coordinates possible preferably and exactly what time down to the hour and minute". which is really what you would NEED to do to start actually making assumptions about someone based on astrology. like sure, they might be a cancer sun. they could however have various other placement that effect it like my saturn is conjunct my moon exactly which leads to much more tame emotional reactions and i have an aries moon (moon rules cancer so these are relevant), and an aqua rising which is more what ppl are going to see upon first meeting. as well my cancer sun is in the 6th house which influences things more in that area of life (like health and jobs).
people are complex and astrology is complex to account for that but really most ppl don't want a play by play categorization of their entire personalities, back stories, trauma, family relations, and relationships with their community. you frankly dont need to know all that to have a normal fucking conversation with someone. you can learn all of that that you NEED to know just by talking to them like a normal person rather than make assumptions based on their sun sign of all things.
personally im mostly interested in astrology in terms of problems you might face like personal flaws, pit falls, traumas, and difficulties in life. which a lot of ppl are interested in hearing about being dumped on them at random. so i REALLY try hard not to be weirdly invasive abt it especially. but when i am asked specifically to do so it tends to be accurate. which is again reassuring that man humans have always had the same problems and we've always found ways to get thru it
tl;dr: there are ways to actually do astrology and you dont even need to do all that to talk to someone like a normal fucking person. i do not get why ppl demand to know your sun sign and then judge you for it.
edit: also yeah its a pseudo science doing math doesnt make things super scientific. but lots of things that matter arent science. so

Psychics
Hello! Today we’re going to be talking about psychics and psychic abilities. Please note this is just a quick overview and there are plenty of books that go more in-depth.
What is a Psychic?
The word "psychic" is derived from the Greek word psychikos ("of the mind" or "mental"), and refers in part to the human mind or psyche (ex. "psychic turmoil"). The Greek word also means "soul". In Greek mythology, the maiden Psyche was the deification of the human soul. The word derivation of the Latin psȳchē is from the Greek psȳchḗ, literally "breath", derivative of psȳ́chein, to breathe or to blow (hence, to live).
A psychic is a person who claims to use extrasensory perception (ESP) to identify information hidden from the normal senses, particularly involving telepathy or clairvoyance, or who performs acts that are apparently inexplicable by natural laws, such as psychokinesis or teleportation. Although many people believe in psychic abilities, the scientific consensus is that there is no proof of the existence of such powers, and describes the practice as pseudoscience. The word "psychic" is also used as an adjective to describe such abilities. Psychics have a natural ability—which can be trained and developed—to "read" the energy surrounding an individual, object, or space, living or inanimate. Just as there are those born with an incredible talent for sports or mathematics, there are others born with an incredible talent to tap into the unseen.
How long have Psychics been around?
French astronomer and spiritualist Camille Flammarion is credited as having first used the word psychic, while it was later introduced to the English language by Edward William Cox in the 1870s.
Elaborate systems of divination and fortune-telling date back to ancient times. Perhaps the most widely known system of early civilization fortune-telling was astrology, where practitioners believed the relative positions of celestial bodies could lend insight into people's lives and even predict their future circumstances. Some fortune-tellers were said to be able to make predictions without the use of these elaborate systems (or in conjunction with them), through some sort of direct apprehension or vision of the future. These people were known as seers or prophets, and in later times as clairvoyants (French word meaning "clear sight" or "clear seeing") and psychics.
Spirit communication became widely banned and stigmatized during the spread of Christianity in the 13th century; religious leaders claimed that psychics were in commune with the devil. Indigenous beliefs and practices were cast out by colonists in the 16th century, and many cultures were forced to follow institutionalized religion. However, certain figures also rose to worldwide popularity—one being Nostradamus who famously made some seriously sizable predictions.
Spiritualism grew in the mid-19th century. Throughout this era, followers held public demonstrations where psychics connected with the spirit world, delivering messages to the audience, messages that confirmed their loved one's presence in the afterlife and held valuable information to help the querent. These days, psychics are allowed to practice openly, and it is not uncommon that your friends, family member, or colleague consults with a psychic regularly. Famous psychics in popular culture include John Henry, Theresa Caputo, Sylvia Brown, and James Van Praagh. They appear on talk shows, write best-selling books, make appearances, and perform public readings to packed auditoriums.
Psychic Abilities
Psychic abilities are better described more so as senses. There are 7 known psychic senses: Clairvoyance (clear seeing), clairsentience (clear feeling), clairaudience (clear hearing), claircognizance (clear knowing), clairscent (clear smelling), clairgustance (clear tasting), and clairtangency (clear touching). Many psychics may have more than just one psychic sense and some may have several.

Astrology (In The Context of Occultism) - A Brief History and Rundown
Astrology is defined as a variety of divinatory practices that became recognized as a prominent pseudoscience in the 18th century. The practices claims to discern information about a person, human affairs, and even terrestrial events by studying the positions of celestial bodies.
Note that this is a very brief overview of astrology throughout history, and one that particularly focuses on the Western viewpoint due to the current rise in astrological belief in countries like America. Astrology has a very long history on the Eastern side of this beautiful planet, however if I included every historical aspect of the practice here this post would be a mile long.
Tumblr media
History
Different cultures have practiced forms of astrology since, at least, the 2nd millennium BCE. With knowledge of space and its workings being a relatively recent aspect of human understanding, the stars and other celestial bodies have long been considered avenues of the divine.
Throughout the West (Eurasian territories), the earliest noted evidence for astrology dates from the 3rd millennium BC, with its roots in calendrical systems. Up until the 17th century, astrology was considered an honorable scholarly practice. It was a commonly accepted science in the realms of politics (yikes) and even in medicine (double yikes). By the end of the 17th century, emerging concepts in astronomy knocked astrology off its pedestal as a divine science. In the 20th century, astrology began gaining consumer popularity through the widespread influence of mass media products (i.e. the infamous newspaper horoscopes).
Branches of Astrology include Natal, Electional, Horary, Medical, Financial, Locational, Psychological, Meteorological, and Theological.
Context In Science
Astrology has long been debunked as a practice in the scientific world. It has a massive lack of consistency, and even testing the validity of astrology is difficult due to there being no universal consensus about what astrology is able to predict. Dean and Kelly (the former being an ex-astrologer, the later being a psychologist) documented 25 studies which found that the degree of agreement amongst astrologers’ predictions “was measured as low as 0.1″. Horoscopes are only able to offer vague interpretations that can appeal to a wide audience, limiting their credibility.
The Planets In Astrology
Planets, within astrology, have a different meaning than the astronomical knowledge of what a planet is. Before humanity came to the development of the telescope, the night sky was believed to consist of only two components (fixed stars and “wandering” stars). To ancient astrologers, the planets represented the will of the divine. To modern astrologers, the planets essentially represent basic drives, or urges, within the human subconscious.

How astrology has helped people from ancient times to make accurate astrology predictions free
Tumblr media
Soothsaying has antiquated starting points and can be followed back to different civic establishments over the entire course of time. The specific beginnings of soothsaying are challenging to pinpoint, as various societies autonomously fostered their own prophetic frameworks accurate life prediction by date of birth free.
Mesopotamia: Soothsaying is accepted to have begun in old Mesopotamia, especially in Babylonia, around the second thousand years BCE. The Babylonians noticed the developments of the planets and stars and connected them with occasions on The planet. They fostered the zodiac and separated the sky into 12 equivalent parts, each related to a particular heavenly body.
Antiquated Egypt: The Egyptians likewise fostered their own type of crystal gazing, zeroing in on the association between heavenly occasions and natural events. They involved crystal gazing for different purposes, including anticipating the flooding of the Nile Waterway marriage prediction by date of birth.
Antiquated Greece: Greek thinkers, like Plato and Aristotle, contemplated and developed Babylonian and Egyptian visionary ideas. The Greek time frame saw the converging of Babylonian and Egyptian thoughts, leading to Greek crystal gazing. The Greeks additionally presented the idea of the zodiac signs' accurate life prediction by date of birth free.
Greek and Roman Periods: During the Greek period, soothsaying acquired notoriety in the Roman Realm. It became entwined with different strict and otherworldly convictions. The training proceeded to develop, and mysterious texts were gathered during this time.

They further created mysterious strategies and made critical commitments to the field marriage prediction by date of birth.
Middle-age Europe: Crystal gazing proceeded to spread and develop in middle age Europe. It turned out to be intently attached to the Christian perspective, with crystal gazers frequently working inside the system of the Congregation to exact future predictions free.
Renaissance and Current Periods: The Renaissance saw a restoration of interest in crystal gazing, and it kept on being persuasive in the next hundreds of years. In any case, with the coming of the logical upheaval and the Period of Illumination, crystal gazing bit by bit lost its status as a standard logical discipline. In spite of this, soothsaying continued and encountered a resurgence in prevalence in the twentieth and 21st hundreds of years, though frequently seen more as a type of diversion or individual understanding than as a thorough science.
Today, crystal gazing exists in different structures and is drilled by people with different convictions, going from the people who see it as pseudoscience to other people who track down private importance and direction in mysterious readings, exact future predictions free.
It's critical to take note of that established researchers for the most part believe soothsaying to be a pseudoscience, as the systems proposed for the impact of divine bodies on human undertakings need experimental help. How Can Astrology Help You Choose a Career Path?
Tumblr media
Introduction: Choosing the right career path is one of the most important decisions we make in our lives. It determines our professional growth, satisfaction, and overall well-being. While there are various factors to consider when deciding on a career, some individuals turn to astrology for guidance. Astrology, an ancient belief system based on the positions and movements of celestial bodies, claims to provide insights into different aspects of our lives. In this blog post, we will explore whether astrology can truly help in choosing the right career path or if it's merely a pseudoscience.
Understanding Astrology: Astrology is the belief that celestial bodies, such as planets and stars, have an influence on human affairs and can provide valuable insights into an individual's personality, behavior, and destiny. Astrologers create birth charts, also known as horoscopes, by mapping the positions of celestial bodies at the time of a person's birth. These birth charts are believed to provide information about a person's strengths, weaknesses, and inclinations.
The Argument for Astrology in Career Guidance: Proponents of astrology argue that the positions of celestial bodies at the time of birth can reveal certain personality traits and inclinations that may align with specific career paths. For example, someone born under the sign of Aries, known for their leadership qualities, might thrive in a managerial or entrepreneurial role. Similarly, a person with a strong influence from the sign of Virgo, known for attention to detail, might excel in analytical or administrative fields.
Astrology can also provide insights into an individual's strengths and weaknesses, helping them identify areas of interest and potential challenges in different career paths. By analyzing the birth chart, astrologers claim to offer guidance on suitable professions, highlighting areas where individuals are likely to find fulfillment and success.
The Skeptic's View: Critics of astrology argue that its claims lack scientific evidence and are based on subjective interpretations. They believe that astrology relies on general statements that can be applied to almost anyone and that its predictions are often vague and open to interpretation. Skeptics argue that factors like education, personal development, and individual choices have a far greater impact on career success than astrological signs.
Making Informed Career Decisions: While astrology can be intriguing and offer a fresh perspective, it should not be the sole basis for making career decisions. Instead, it is advisable to consider astrology as one among many tools available for self-reflection and exploration.
Here are some practical steps to make informed career decisions:
Self-Reflection: Take time to understand your interests, skills, and values. Identify your passions and strengths to determine what truly motivates you.
Research and Exploration: Explore different career options that align with your interests. Conduct thorough research to understand the required skills, job prospects, and potential growth opportunities.
Seek Guidance: Consult career counselors, mentors, or professionals in your fields of interest. Their expertise and experience can provide valuable insights and help you gain a realistic understanding of different career paths.
Gain Experience: Engage in internships, part-time jobs, or volunteer work to gain practical experience in your areas of interest. This hands-on experience can help you gauge your compatibility with a particular career path.
Networking: Build connections with professionals in your desired field. Networking can provide you with valuable advice, job opportunities, and a better understanding of the industry.
Conclusion: Astrology can be an interesting tool for self-reflection and self-discovery. However, when it comes to choosing the right career path, it is essential to consider multiple factors, including personal interests, skills, values, and practical considerations. While astrology may provide some insights, relying solely on it for career decisions is not recommended. Ultimately, making informed choices based on thorough research, self-reflection, and professional guidance will lead to a more fulfilling and successful career journey.

Astrology is a pseudoscience that is based on the belief that there is a connection between astronomical phenomena and events in the human world.
Astrologers were consulted by kings and queens in ancient times to predict the future. But astrology has never been accepted as a science. There are many reasons for this, with one being that astrology does not provide any evidence for its claims. It was also not possible to test them until recently because of technological limitations.
Some people believe that astrologers can help them understand themselves better and make their lives better.

Astrological Compatibility
After experiencing all that I have this year, I definitely believe that astrology does play a role in compatibility, in the sense that astrology is a pseudoscience based around how time of birth, planetary cycles, and place of birth affect personality. It was developed by human beings at a time when scientific methods of interpreting data were not developed to where they are today.
If we take a look at how this might play out from a more scientific perspective, think of the “nature vs. nurture” argument. Nature applies to traits that develop either from genetics or during fetal developmental. Nurture applies to external social and developmental factors that contribute to personality after birth.
There does seem to be a correlation between what season and month people were born in and certain personality traits. It is definitely true that levels of sunlight can have a huge impact on human health and development, but light exposure and seasons can be vastly different across the globe (especially in moving closer and farther away from the equator), which is probably why detailed astrological charts involve looking at birthplace.
It also provides perspective on why there are differences between the Western and Chinese Zodiacs but there are still some similarities in the way traits are applied. For example, in the Western Zodiac we have “Earth, Air, Fire, and Water” and in the Chinese Zodiac we have “Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water” because human beings across cultures understand how valuable these elements were to our survival.
Human beings are pattern-seeking creatures, so it isn’t any surprise that they personified these elements and began correlating them to aspects of human personality. It was just another way of trying to make sense of the world, and I am not surprised that when astrologers examined the natural world and the cosmos (as better astronomical tools became available) they began to make connections between children born in certain seasons and certain personality traits, and I don’t believe the correlation is completely nonexistent.
The issue we see is that some people tend to think that personality is a fixed thing, and that when someone is born a certain way [nature] their traits are entirely resistant to change [underemphasizing nurture].
Even if astrology can offer us some predictors about how a person’s character might develop, we have to remember that personality has nothing to do with whether someone is a “good” or “bad” person. Some people may be more or less outgoing than others, more or less athletic, more or less organized, more or less playful, and more or less “nice” than other people, but that has nothing to do with their morality or ability to be a good romantic partner, friend, sibling, or parent.
The strength of a relationship is almost entirely dependent on the values of the parties involved.
Whether “star-crossed” or “star-aligned”, the strength of peoples’ relationships is entirely dependent on whether or not they are based on honesty, mutual respect, and compassion. We all know that some people we love have habits that may occasionally-- or frequently-- grate on our nerves, but our choice on whether to continue living with and loving that person is rarely just down to personality.
We all have that person in our lives with a grinchy, McScrooge disposition, but we love them because they keep their word and you know deep down that they’ve got a good heart even if they don’t always show affection as easily as other people do.
We also all know someone that is the life of the party, loud, fun, almost obnoxious in their zest for life, but we wouldn’t trust them as far as we could throw them when it comes to any major responsibility. But we still love them anyway.
And with have to admit to ourselves, that sometimes love is not enough.
Love is never an excuse to allow someone to run roughshod over your boundaries, devalue your ideas, and monopolize your time. Love alone will not save any relationship where either party lacks respect, trust, and compassion.
After ending many relationships this year (including one that I held in very high value) I found out that it isn’t about personality. “Ugh, she’s such a Virgo!” is not a mature answer for why you can’t get along with your best friend, boss, or mother.
I know that Kati Morton used to say “some relationships are bad recipes” and I don’t really believe that anymore. I don’t really believe that people share mutual blame like that for why things fall apart. It’s fine to admit that someone annoys you or gets on your nerves, but when there is that much bad blood with someone you used to be associated with, I think that boundary violations-- either on your part or theirs-- are to blame.
I used to lean towards a belief in “star matches” but now I truly believe there are no incompatible signs.
I know that I tend to lack romantic chemistry with most of my fellow Air nomads, but I always have amazing conversations and a kind of instant connection. I know that from experience, Water signs are amazing listeners. I know that I tend to have a shared drive with so many Earth signs, and that Fire signs have a unique capability to humor and delight.
Fire signs can also burn your whole life down if you let them. Water signs can be secretive and vindictive. Earth signs can be so stubborn that they won’t admit a single flaw. Air signs can be unreliable and aloof.
But guess what? So can everyone, because we all have aspects of each element inside of us. Leaning a certain way does not make us more or less bad or good. It just makes us human.
As I reflect on my experiences this year, I am far more interested in how systems of meaning develop, than the systems themselves. Astrology, just like religion, was developed by humans who desperately wanted to provide an explanation for the mysterious workings of the cosmos, our planet, and the human heart. I think whether or not astrology is “real” is far less important than the history and traditions associated with it.
Each of the signs in the Western Zodiac has a unique mythological creature and story attached to it. It was only this year that I found out that Capricorn is represented by a half-goat, half-fish creature (essentially a mergoat), and I learned that my sign (Libra) was only introduced into the zodiac later, because there was too much intensity going on between The Virgin (Virgo) and Scorpio (the Scorpion, duh) and Libra was brought in to balance things out. That is the reason why Librans are the only members of the zodiac family to not be represented by a living creature.
I also found out that this might’ve been part of it because human beings have been liking the number 12 for a good minute, so we had to even out that odd 11 sooner or later. In my numerological deep dive I also found out that Romans were freaked out by the number 17, because it was written “XVII” and that, along with the fact that it was a weird prime number, really upset their sense of symmetry. In general it seems humans are not fond of numbers that cannot be divided by anything other than 1 and itself. So 9 is in, but 13 is out, and its probably more this, rather than the fact that we don’t want a snake sign in the Zodiac, that so many astrologers soundly refuse to recognize Ophiuchus. Obviously we make an exception for 0 (both a number and not a number) and also 1 and 2.
I “wiki-walked” more and found out that a number of prominent musicians have superstitions regarding numbers, probably because our profession is way more about keeping time and counting than most people realize.
Also, it’s been fascinating to find out about “the ages” which require incredible math to calculate. We are apparently just beginning the “Age of Aquarius” and a lot of changes that were predicted using past data seem to be “coming to pass.”
Full disclosure: you can’t use astrology to predict the future of the planet anymore than you can the future of your relationship.
I use astrology to help me understand the past, but I do not trust the validity of horoscopes because it is impossible to know the future. I have developed a saying “History doesn’t repeat itself, but it echoes.” Economists, political analysists, climate scientists, and other experts in their field do not make their predictions based on “hunches” or mysterious esoteric knowledge, they make their predictions based on interpretation of data, and even if these predictions can be incredibly accurate, they are not completely infallible.
In other words, you aren’t going to experience relationship troubles during “Mercury in retrograde” unless you expect and believe you will, or some other unrelated event causes it. The only difference then is that because you were hypervigilant, you shifted your own behavior in a way that exacerbated the issues, i.e. “a self-fulfilling prophecy.”
If your marriage or friendship is failing, “astrological differences” likely aren’t the main culprit. Similarly, you should never dismiss your intuition that something is wrong just because your horoscope said, “You will find true love in December” and that is when you found it. That’s called a coincidence, and they’re everywhere. Trust yourself and trust your instincts. Your own personal patterns matters much more than what a stranger or an algorithm has predicted about you. Don’t try to “follow the signs”, test things out and see if things you find in your chart actually line up with what you’ve been experiencing.
I really do believe in some kind of carnal divinity, a common life-energy that is connecting all living beings to one another. Don’t let your natural light and vitality be dimmed by people who enjoy burying their own light under a bushel. It isn’t a matter of “good” and “evil” in so many cases, but it really is about what kind of life each person wants and/or is willing to tolerate.
That beings said, welcome to Sagittarius season! I hope you all find your inner flame archer and ride on your metaphorical horse legs right into your destiny.

Lal kitab Precautions…
In Lal Kitab the sins and debts of previous life additionally receive heap of importance. to get rid of troubles remedies are counseled. the recognition of Lal Kitab is due to accuracy in prediction and effectivity of remedies that are counseled not just for planets however additionally for human behavior. In Lal Kitab majority of remedies ought to be carried in day time solely. Muhurat doesn’t receive special importance for completing these remedies. for every remedy you’re suggested to induce obviate flesh consumption, alcoholism, womanising, gender and telling lies etc.
Lal Kitab may be a easy and extraordinary book of pseudoscience. It doesn’t go far into arithmetic rather. It champions and emphasizes the importance of remedies. Lal Kitab additionally emphasizes that if one specific house, its lord, its significator sign and planet all ar afflicted in this case remedies counseled might not yield miraculous results. But, if that specific house is also under some auspicious influence in this case counseled remedies yield expected results.
The remedies provided in Lal Kitab are for a selected planet found within the birth chart. Remedies of maleficent lanets are provided principally through articles, commodities and different things, assigned to every planet. Immediate relief will be obtained from the strategies that are given in Lal Kitab.

Astrology: The Martyr of Spirituality
28 September 2020
The study of astrology consists of the analyses and interpretations of the sun, moon, and planets in relation to each other, the Earth, and the constellations known as the Zodiac. There are two main types of astrology: Western tropical astrology, and Hindu Vedic sidereal astrology. Although they each have different ways of measuring the placements of the planets in relation to the sun, both studies revolve around the individual’s birth chart and horoscope, and the future of the state of the world as told by these planets and placements; the horoscope of Earth if you will. An astrological birth chart, determined by an individual’s birthday, city of birth and time of birth, can tell a lot about personality, skills, potential past and future life experiences, types of people one attracts or is attracted to, and more. We are used to thinking horoscopes tell us what is going to happen to us humans in the upcoming day, week, month, or year. But, horoscopes are also used to tell what is currently happening/predict what will be happening to the world. Many celebrities and political figures utilize astrologers to make major life decisions. It is said that presidents and people in government use astrology when making big policy decisions; the New York Times reported in 1988 that President Reagan and Nancy Reagan used astrology when planning events and in regards to “key White House decisions” (Roberts). Studying upcoming transits of planets can allegedly predict major world events, such as natural disasters, disease, death of people in power, and more. Each planet represents an idea; for example, Mercury is the planet of  intelligence and communication. If an election is occurring while Mercury is in retrograde, which is an astral phenomenon signifying chaos in which Mercury appears to be rotating backwards in space, astrologers may predict a messy election with scandals, lying, or cheating. It is interesting to note that the word “disaster” originates from the Greek words ‘dvis’ and ‘astron,” which can be interpreted as the ‘stars’ being in ‘discord’ (Weehuizen).
Western astrology as Americans know it originates from ancient Babylon, arounda 2,400 years ago. The oldest astrological artifacts, wooden boards with carved symbols of various Zodiac signs, were found in Croatia and can be traced back to 2,000 years ago. These boards are thought to have been owned by early astrologers, who would most likely draw out the positions of the sun, the moon, and the planets at the time of the client’s birth, and provide whatever interpretation they found most relevant at the time. Astrology slowly made its way West beginning 2,100 years ago, gaining appeal in Greek-controlled Egypt (Jarus). This is how the massly popular astrology that has flooded American pop culture began to spread West. It has always been pretty popular for people to check their daily horoscopes, but the trend of people knowing their full, actual birth chart placements has gained traction in very recent years. Apps like Co-Star and The Pattern provide relatable-sounding, in-depth explanations and interpretations of people’s western birth charts on an aesthetically pleasing platform.
With the rise of astrology in popular cultural sectors of America, the subject has become increasingly popular with skeptics, critics, and people who flat out make fun of those who believe in it. According to a piece done by Paul R. Thagard, astrology is not considered a scientific form of study because it has not progressed since its origination and there are still many unsolved problems with it’s core ideas, the community of astrologers overseeing practice have not made attempts to solve these validity issues and do not show concern for creating studies to test these core theories, and is selective with the information they do have (Thagard).  Although it is deemed a pseudoscience, in Indian and Chinese cultures forms of astrology are deeply embedded in their spirituality (Dadhichi). William S. Haney opens his book Culture and Consciousness with discussing the present-day realm of postmodernism we live in. Postmodernism is characterized by “the demise of personal definition, reason, authority, commitment, trust, the sense of authenticity, and faith in progress” (Haney 15). As we have progressed as a society through scientific and technological advancement, the importance of “proof” through the scientific method has become necessary for a lot of people to believe or follow something. Haney’s text emphasizes how, in the West, falsifiability, used to prove scientific validity, only works for sensory empiricism and is denied by mental and contemplative empiricism (21).
The issue between astrology and this necessity for sensory empiricism in regards to falsifiability is that, with society’s current technology, there is no real way to prove, for example, the energies these planets are said to encompass (venus = love and affection, mars = drive and aggression, etc.). Although we can measure the trajectories of these planets and where they are in relation to each other in space, we cannot scientifically prove that Pisces people are very emotional and that Virgos are inherently very organized. Culture and Consciousness discusses how modernity has determined that unity = good and disunity = bad. In regards to astrology, because the information is seen as somewhat fragmented and sometimes based upon a sort of unspoken knowledge as opposed to textbook knowledge, the majority of people do not think it is a feasible way to be able to understand oneself and provide help with future endeavors. However, there is a concept of hermetic poststructuralism mentioned in the text that seems to favor this idea of irrationality and undecidability (Haney 19). It is interesting how, while reading Culture and Consciousness, it seems as though there would be just as much of a rejection to religion in the West era of postmodern consciousness. But, it is obvious in American society that astrology is seen as much more taboo than, say, Catholicism, despite both spiritualities’ lack of proof to back up their beliefs and ideologies.
My theory is that, through this lens of cultural consciousness, a lot of Eastern ideology is not taken as seriously in the West as these religions who dominate Western culture, like Christianity. There is a clear disregard for Eastern heritage in Western countries; just this past summer, Muslim detainees in ICE centers were forced to eat pork as part of the meals they were provided (Voytko). Although the implications are not as severe for those who study astrology in the realm of this Eastern rejection, it speaks to the issues stemming from the lack of focus on the spiritual space in this postmodern society. When we try to reject all ideology without scientific backing, I believe it can affect the consciousness of the self. Ken Wilberm, a modern philosopher, notes that we have levels of self recognition, consisting of body, mind, and spirit (Haney 21). When only the physical realm, that of the body, is focused on and taken seriously in a sense, we can unknowingly erase two major spiritual senses of self.
Postmodernism and postmodern consciousness in the West does not really have space in the public sector to be taken as seriously as science-based topics, or historical Western religions. Because astrology lacks falsifiable scientific backing, and does not have major historical spiritual ties to Western culture, it is often critiqued and tossed away as a pseudoscience. Under this framework of cultural consciousness, I would say that pseudosciences can have just as much importance to the progression of a society and individual self-spirituality as Western-originated thought or physical sciences. “There can be many viewpoints, all subjective, and many truths, all relative” (Haney 19). I think to minimize human existence strictly down to science-based theory and fact would be a major loss to a human being trying to live their fullest and most spiritually connected life on Earth.

Astrology : A Science or Superstition?
Throughout history, humans have tried to make sense of the world around them by attributing certain aspects of their lives to celestial bodies. Astrology is the idea that positions of planets at the time of one's birth influence one's personality, actions, and future.
Tumblr media
There are several different types of astrology, including Western astrology and Hindu astrology. Western astrologers focus on which zodiac sign someone was born under. They believe that each sign has a specific personality type or might have certain strengths or weaknesses. Hindus believe that there are 12 signs in their system called "Nakshatra", which are based on 30-day cycles rather than 12 months
It is not scientific because it cannot be measured or repeated under controlled conditions
Astrology is a pseudoscience, and should not be taken as a science. It is based on the idea that human beings and other living things are influenced by the positions of celestial objects, such as planets and stars.
Astrology should be seen as a form of belief rather than an objective study of the motion of celestial bodies. The belief in astrology has been present for centuries, and can be seen in many cultures around the world.
Astrology is an ancient science, but it has been broadly misinterpreted for centuries. The word astrology comes from the Greek "astrologia" which means "the study or belief in the influence of stars and planets on human affairs."
Astrology is not just a superstition. It is a science that focuses on the movement of celestial bodies in order to predict future events. Astrology can provide guidance in many aspects of life including business, health, romance, and self-knowledge.
This section talks about how astrology can be used as an effective tool for predicting future events.
Astrology is the study of the movement and relative positions of celestial objects as a means for divining information about human affairs and terrestrial events.
Astrology is defined by the Oxford Dictionary (2004) as “the study of how movements and relative positions (as in horoscopes) of celestial bodies can provide indications about personal character, human affairs, etc.” It has existed for at least three thousand years, with its roots based in astronomy, mathematics, and ancient religious beliefs.
The word astrology comes from the Greek words astron meaning star or constellation, and logos meaning discourse or logic. It was coined by Hellenistic Greeks to describe two systems that are still practiced today: one using astronomical methods to calculate an individual's personality or destiny; another whereby individuals are thought to be influenced
The first point of a horoscope is the date on which a person is born. This is called the "star of birth" or "natal star".
In many ancient cultures, astrology was considered a science.
It has been used throughout history to help people understand their past and future as well as world events.
It is not uncommon to hear the words “astrology” and “science” in the same sentence. But, in reality, astrology is not a science.
It is difficult to identify all possible uses for astrology but there are some that are popular in today’s world. For instance, an astrologer can tell you what the future holds for a couple just by knowing their birthdays and date of marriage. Astrologers can also tell you about your character and how it affects your relationships with people.
Astrology falls into the realm of superstition because it's based on false beliefs that have no scientific basis as opposed to being a science where there is evidence to back up every theory.

Why do I hate astrology?
Because I may have been born on July 13th, but the only thing that tells you is that I was born on July 13th.
Astrology is a precursor to astronomy, from a time before humans began to do modern science and apply skeptical thought to such beliefs. But astrology is not science, nor is it scientific, nor has it been scientifically demonstrated. It’s not a reliable way of making predictions, either. If you were a Capricorn but told me you were a Cancer, that would still tell me as much about you as the former would.
How would it even work? There’s no way Mars or Mercury could affect events in our lives. Our lives are made up of so many intertwining strands that it’s just absurd. Gravity certainly couldn’t be a part of it. Every object with mass has a gravitational pull, so how close Mars is at the time of your birth doesn’t matter, since the doctors holding you have more gravitational influence than Mars does. But even if there was some unseen or unknown force by which astrology could work, or if astrology is just using positions of cosmic bodies to predict things, which is generally what it’s presented as, there would still be ways to test it.
Once scientists started to test astrology, it wasn’t found to be a valid tool for figuring things about. Its predictions are no better than guessing or random chance. You can switch the signs for a horoscope, use any number of different horoscopes, and people will still think it applies to them. This experiment has been done countless times with the same results: The sign or horoscope mean and predict nothing. Yes, astrologers will throw around any number of studies that claim to support astrology, but even then, they’re either terribly done, or their results still leave much to be desired and prove nothing. It’s statistical noise.
Yeah, you’ll find plenty of people who say their horoscopes were accurate, but the plural of anecdote isn’t data. And while there may be some areas in which astrology would appear to be more correct, like relationships going bad while Mercury is in retrograde, correlation does not equal causation. Well, perhaps not so much causation in this case, but an incredibly unreliable attempt to predict things. So what if your horoscope predicted you;d find love or money today, then you got a date and found $20 on the ground? What about all those who didn’t find love or money? Astrology’s apparent success is nothing more than anecdotal confirmation bias and statistical gibberish.
Life on earth generally works in patterns. We do the same crap in July that we did the last one, the same crap in December that we did the last one. Some times of the year are better for relationships than others. More people probably get together around February, more people might break up around November or so. The planets and constellations also go about regular movements. If you say “hey Mercury’s in retrograde, and every time it is, relationships go bad,” that might seem like a workable idea. However, does that, therefore, mean it has anything to do with Mercury? More importantly, does it offer any sort of reliable predictable power?
The simple fact is, no, it doesn’t. No test has found it to. Even if it was found in some study or another that as much as 65% of “professional astrologers” were mostly correct in some predictions, that’s still a pitiful number. It doesn’t matter if the chance of that 65% was 1 in 10,000. It’s statistical noise, playing with numbers. Not to mention what other issues such studies may have. Never mind the fact that twins are often known to have very different lives.
Astrology is very Earth-focused, too. The constellations we project on the sky use stars strewn across space in 3 dimensions. If we went to another star, we’d see very different constellations. Considering that, if the positions of stars and planets relative to Earth predicts things, then what about how the stars look from other star systems, and the positions of their planets? Do the positions of the planets in the Trappist system predict our lives? What if we moved to that system? Would new star signs be needed? What if we went to a planet with 50 moons and 3 suns?
The mere idea that we can predict things via the positions of cosmic bodies is ridiculous, anyway. The sky isn’t permanent. The planets weren’t always there and won’t always be there. The moon’s moving away from the earth and used to be much closer. Earth’s rotation is slowing over time. Orbits can be destabilized. If a rogue planet at least as massive as Jupiter, or an object of near-stellar mass came barreling through, which could happen, it would throw a lot of things off.
The stars are moving, too. On timescales of millions of years, the constellations we know now will no longer exist. Some stars will blow up and no longer exist, some new ones will be formed. Moons may be obliterated in massive impacts. In 4-5 billion years, our sun will expand and engulf the Earth and inner planets, and seriously screw up the rest of the solar system. Does astrology predict that? Science does because it doesn’t just work on correlations.
For example, meteorology isn’t perfect, because the weather is chaotic, there are so many variables at play, but it works well enough for our needs. In fact, it works far better than astrology. We don’t say “a storm will happen this time because one happened last year when the sun and moon were in so and so position.” We use radar maps, reams of weather data, temperature, pressure, and humidity readings, and a slew of other tools and pieces of data to construct a picture of the current weather and run simulations to predict what might happen using decades of ever-improving science.
Some sciences are more precise. We’ve been able to use evolutionary theory to predict how micro-organisms will evolve. We use the theory of gravity to predict where the planets will be, where we need to point a spaceship to get it to a planet at a certain time, or what would happen if a black hole blasted through our neighborhood. Mathematics is the best field of science when it comes to predictability and the only one with absolute certainty. 2+2 always equals 4. But as far as astrology goes, its success rate is pitiful and on a level that makes it utterly useless. Nor is it needed.
If relationships tend to go bad in November, just say November’s ab ad time for relationships. Maybe even try to figure out why that is. There’s no need to mention Mercury being in retrograde. If people born during a certain month do go a certain way in a statistically significant number, try to find out why that actually is. Don’t just rely on the sun, moon, planets, or stars. And if you want to quantify your personality, consider a detailed about me page.
The world, the universe, is an immensely complicated and ever-changing place. The reasons that things happen, and the patterns in which they happen, are reliant on many factors that, if we could know all the numbers and paths, perhaps we could predict with a high degree of accuracy. But we don’t, and astrology sure as hell isn’t a good way to do it. It’s a tool, all right. A tool for people to make money, a gimmick in newspapers and magazines, an overly-simplified and often inaccurate means to quantify a personality.
When it comes to daily horoscopes, they’re just as inaccurate, and perhaps even a dangerous way to predict the events of a day. Did the horoscopes of the people in the upper floors of the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001 predict that they’d be ground to nothing as the towers collapsed around them? Did the people at the Route 91 Harvest Festival get any hint from their October 1st, 2017 horoscope that a madman would rain bullets onto them from 32 floors up? If a horoscope doesn’t say something bad will happen, should we be complacent? If it says something romantic will happen, and something romantic does happen, does that mean the astrologer who wrote the horoscope was a genius?
So why do I hate astrology so much? I hate astrology because it’s such a terrible way to figure out the world. I hate it because it’s used as a way to determine who people should and should be with. I hate it because it’s relied on so heavily by so many to quantify their personality and predict their life when there’s no damn good reason for such a belief to be maintained. I hate it because it’s pseudoscience, new-age woo. I hate it because it obscures reality, because it oversimplifies things, because it covers up the true nature of the universe and how things work. I hate it because it’s so terribly limited. I hate it because it has the illusion of wonder, but lacks the substance of reality.
The fact is, astrology is ultimately a sham. It’s a holdover from the darker days of humanity when we didn’t understand all that much. And it’s potentially dangerous, as it suggests a sort of fatalism that could be deadly. In millennia past, astrology was used to control and bring down empires. People now use their horoscopes as a fun way to give them hope that they might finally get laid today, or not get hit by a bus. In either case, it’s useless. Live your life day by day. Figure out what will happen by actually looking at the world around you and what events may affect things. Look both ways, keep your guard up, always be ready for the good or bad in life. Don’t just look at the signs listed in someone’s about me, talk to them. Get to know people. Get to know yourself. Take the world for what it is, and don’t assume it, you, or your life can be predicted by a bank of text in a magazine written by a “professional astrologer.” Don’t let your life be guided by a set of traffic signals in the sky, because those signals aren’t very well-defined, they’re always changing, they weren’t always there, they won’t always be there, and assholes are constantly running the red lights.
