I need to be salty for a hot second about people who are upset about aspects of Lucanis' romance.

I'll put everything else under the break for spoilers, but in general, I am so disappointed in a large portion of this fanbase who apparently thought "disaster" meant "romantasy," but also it's in keeping with how a lot of people seem unable to put things in context.

One of the complaints I keep seeing run past is that the scene where you commit to a relationship with Lucanis seems pefunctory, or out of the blue, there's nothing really romantic about it, it's too similar to the platonic route, etc, etc, ETC.

I romanced Emmrich, but I've seen other people's versions of romancing Lucanis. I'm just going to kind of word vomit here, and hope I can come up with something cohesive.

As someone who id's with Lucanis for "generational abuse" and "dumpster fire disaster bi" and "using socially acceptable drugs as coping mechanisms in place of addressing your problems" reasons, it's been really fucking annoying watching the almost deliberate misinterpretation of his character even after Mary Kirby dropped several explanations on social media. It's like a large part of the fanbase saw all that and turned into the "yes yes, very sad...anyway!" meme and went right on fetishizing him...then got mad when he didn't turn into the seductive Dom with wings they were hoping for.

You commit to Lucanis after (what I consider) a very intense scene inside his "mind prison." He's struggling so much internally that Spite wrests control of his body from him in front of witnesses and begs Rook to help them. Lucanis would never ask Rook to do so on his own, he's terrible at asking for the help he truly needs. Spite drags Rook into the Fade Ossuary and demands they free Lucanis from his self-imposed prison. And whether you're a friend or would-be lover, Rook slowly talks Lucanis out of a host of self doubts regarding his family and friends. Can he trust himself not to hurt other people, now that he's saddled with this affliction? Has he disappointed the people he cares about most? Do these new people he's coming to care about actually trust and care about him? The rooms are filled with fragmented thoughts that peter out into regrets. You're literally seeing Lucanis' fractured and complicated emotions.

One of them tore a hole straight through me: "You'd have to kill me...And Spite would die."

You'd have to kill him to get rid of the demon. And he'd regret the death of the demon that's protected him and given him strength, through a brutal year of betrayal and torment. I don't know if y'all remember the scenes in the Ossuary of the failed experiments and the corpses you had to pass to get to his jar of blood. It wasn't fun.

When you break out of the mind prison after helping him bond with Spite, it's intimate and momentous, even on a platonic route. You've seen desperate and lonely parts of him he'd never willingly show anyone.

As you're convincing Lucanis that it's okay to leave his mind-prison, you tell him you understand that it's easier to deal with problems like the Ossuary and Zara than healing and living with Spite, potentially hurting people he cares about. But he wants to. It's Rook's job to help him see a path out, a way for him to make the struggle easier so he can begin to heal himself.

I need to stress: you aren't "fixing" him. You're acting as his lighthouse, regardless of whether you're a friend or a lover. Sometimes people need help. He's still going to have to do the work to get there.

As a friend, it was extremely rewarding to come back to the kitchen and see him doing exactly as I'd hoped: moving on with the business of *living*. He made a nice dinner for everyone he's come to care for, and a special dessert for Neve. Cooking is where Lucanis finds creativity, and comfort, and connection with his friends and family. He isn't very good with words, but he will note everything you consume, and try to make you feel loved by expressing it that way.

Which is why I think it's important you don't dismiss the commitment on the romantic route. He remembers YOUR favorite drink and makes YOU a special dessert if you're romancing him. Lucanis isn't going to get poetic. You've already made him feel raw. You've seen the ugly, embarassing parts of him. What is he supposed to say? Usually it takes Spite reaching through his body to actually be direct. Instead, Lucanis reaches for food, his favorite medium, to try and apologize for inadvertently showing you those things, to thank you for helping him despite seeing what he considers the most shameful parts of him. Your commitment is letting him know that you value him, that he has nothing to be ashamed of, that you understand what he's trying to express with his struggling communication skills, which appear to get better as your relationship progresses from there.

It's weird that some of y'all don't feel that this is heartfelt and important, because you'd rather him act out some sensuous fantasy trope. It's also weird that some of you haven't figured out that many scenes in RPG's can be similar on platonic and romantic routes with tweaks to shade context.

(Also just in case this comes up: cooking is not his "love language" - that whole concept was invented by a misogynistic weirdo and we should remove it from our ideas of communication)

Anyway, this guy is my Rook's bestie and I'll go down swinging for him, you should appreciate the fuck out of him and stop acting like his writer didn't craft a perfectly funny little weirdo who is bad at showing people his tender parts and terrible at interpersonal relationships.

This is the Robin who used to unironically use turns of phrase while busting crime lords with Batman, so of course he’s going to match your energy. If you say “What the fuck Richard?” He’s just going to reply something even sillier.

“They are my crocs.” He does this in the most deadpan tone and these two memes aren’t even related to one another.

He loves it though and finds the funny way you react to situations similar to his demeanour so you bounce of each other very well. It leads to the pair of you having meme wars- you try and outdo each other in how many memes you can reference.

The pair of you now have inside meme jokes that you say to each other, that earn you weird looks from everyone else when you say them to each other. Mainly because the combinations barely make any sense. However it brings you two closer and sometimes helps break the ice after an argument.

Jason Todd

Jason isn’t much of a social media person anymore. He tells everyone he finds it jarring and that it’s like peer pressure on steroids. He only uses Pinterest for book recommendations. So you can only reference memes that went viral before his death, at the beginning of your relationship otherwise he just ignores you.

When he does recognise a meme he’ll either roll his eyes or give you an annoyed, yet affectionate smile. Over time though as he notices you making more relevant meme references with your friends, he finds himself getting jealous. Jason wants to experience that with you.

So he pushes aside all his reservations with social media and watches as many meme videos as he can. Eventually he tries incorporating them into your conversations, albeit sheepishly as he’s unsure of himself.

“Brother Eugh?” He’ll state in a reluctant tone and you’ll just laugh and say it right back.

Tim Drake

Tim is far too focused on being a detective to watch memes, instead the way he relaxes is by doing something that still stimulates his brain in a way, so he’s a fan of puzzles.

“You look like the polite cat sometimes.” You told this to him once absentmindedly and he looked at you like you’d grown two heads. He immediately researched it and saw some similarities. You continued the meme reference when you bought him a puzzle of the polite cat for his birthday. It was safe to say he wasn’t that impressed. However he finished it in record time.

Whenever you quote any memes though he gives you a factual answer, “Roadworks mean that construction workers are fixing the road.” In retaliation you begin sending him all the memes you reference and then one day he just starts saying them. At first you’re shocked and he doesn’t do it often, but he’ll have a smug smile on his face every time.

Damian Wayne

Due to Damian’s harsh upbringing from the league of assassins he isn’t well versed in meme culture.

“What is aura? How have I lost -10,000? What was my starting amount?” He takes your meme references too literally, but when you offer to show him some and explain them he accepts. He’ll scoff and tell you he was only doing it to humour you, but in reality he wanted to regain some of his childhood and he felt this would be a good way to do it.

He doesn’t ever reference memes back to you or say them in the first instance. Despite this he learns when you’re most likely to quote them and which one it would be. If you choose not to he’ll raise an eyebrow and ask you why you hadn’t. He wants to make sure you haven’t stopped because of him, he likes it he’s just not sure how exactly to show it.

When you do quote memes to him, he’ll have the ghost of a smile on his face. You’ll only see it if you look closely.

- they all have a Minecraft server together that's utter madness! Riddler has perfected redstone and he makes puzzle riddle traps in game, it drives Joker INSANE. Ivy goes around planting giant trees and flowers without asking. And Bane has a nice little house and no one dares ruin it, it brings him so much joy.

- Scarecrow always has chapstick on him, it's mango flavored

- Riddler has a tamagotchi, he will cry if it dies. If you're the goon that has to watch it while he's in Arkham, be scared.

- Harvey still posts on his Twitter, Twoface has an invite only after dark account. He just reposts memes everyone else has already seen and overshares random personal information and middle school level poetry. Also Harvey & Twoface are currently in a four year long tweet war about an episode of Law and order

- Out of all the rogues, Joker owns the most shoes. He has a storage unit full of racks of different tailored costumes, shoes, and makeup. He wears an expensive french brand of makeup he has to ship to Gotham, and he doesn't do any crimes without wearing his lucky lipstick brand

- Scarecrow loves animal crossing, his island is decked out and Halloween themed. He hosts parties with the rogues on his island

- Riddler set up a VPN & free cable/wifi for all the rogues to use so they can stream whatever, but you have to answer a riddle to get the password. Joker hates it but he also needs to watch the new criminal minds reboot before Harley spoils it

- one time during a party, the rogues managed to convince a very drunk Harvey & Twoface to sing/reinact songs from phantom of the opera and later jekyll and hyde (Twoface is emotionally a theater kid)

- Harley and Twoface get really into murder podcasts together one time while in Arkham. Even after they all break out, they video call after new episodes drop to talk about it. One time they tried to do a podcast but it turned out Joker did the crime so like it wasn't much of a plot twist

- Harley streams her crimes sometimes & actually makes some sick side cash off it! Half the time her chat is just obsessing over her interactions with Ivy. Also Ivy is one of her top donors

- Catwoman is TikTok famous, she posts story times, how to do simple parkour and pick locks, and hauls from crimes. All of her money from sponsorships and stuff goes to charity (she gets sent a bunch of free cat food for her cats, it's awesome!)

- Joker scrapbooks, he did it for a gag originally but low key got into it and now he may or may not have a scrapbooking room. He tries to go to Michael’s incognito but like, everyone knows.. The employees are like “yo, the Joker is at the help desk asking about if we have batman scrapbooking decals? Do.. Do I ask if he wants to sign up for the rewards program? Is he allowed to sign up?” Yes he signed up for the rewards program

- Joker also often signs up for various rewards programs but when he doesn’t want their emails, he gives them scarecrow’s email. Scarecrow has a bounty for whoever stops the man signing up ALL his emails for the Chilies newsletter

- the rogues throw Harley a roller skating lasertag party, where they also learn Harvey can't skate to save his life. He's the dedicated party mom that's standing at the railing about to fall down while he cheers on the others doing tricks and he's in charge of everyone's coat at the table. Joker uses all of his tickets to buy bouncy balls and sticky hands. Catwoman is a god at laser tag, she nearly gave Scarecrow a heart attack when she dropped form the vents to snip him. At the end of the party, they all steal Harley the go kart that's worth like 10,000 tickets. Batman shows up to Harley doing donuts in the parking lot while all the other villains are fighting with sticky hands and bouncy balls

- Bane likes camping and takes all the rogues in hopes to get camping buddies, they all almost die out in the woods because it's a disaster but also he had a great time! The Joker brings a camera and the whole time is making dated Blair Witch jokes with Scarecrow, which Harvey doesn't find funny and not because he's scared of the Blair witch.. Riddler screams running off into the woods because of a bee "chasing" him, no one sees him until three weeks later when they remember that they forgot him in the woods. Clayface uses a survivalist persona/character the whole time they're out there but he knows nothing about survivalism, eating poisonous berries and telling them poison ivy is a healing herb. Ivy is probably the only one suited for camping and she has to make sure most of them don't die

- Harley collects pins! She has a pin board in her hideout. The other rogues give her pins they find/obtain around Gotham

In Memory of Jeysen Perez Lyons (1996-2022) & Akira Toriyama (1955-2024)

    This is actually quite late, but I'd like to take a minute to pour one out for a very good friend of mine who took his own life two years ago now, and a man who's creativity touched countless young lives all over the world.

Eulogy below, puttin' it under a Read More. Warning, it does talk about s**c*de and if you're not going to be okay after reading about it, probably don't read it then.

I'd like to start with Toriyama-sensei (right). 

    Akira Toriyama captured hearts of millions every with stories of friendship, growth, and gloriously, ridiculously intense anime action since 1984. He was the man behind art of the Dragon Quest games, and most notably, Goku, the character that would inspire countless to always surpass their limits and giving their very best...or something like that. 

    I'll admit, I was never really a DBZ fan myself. Never did get with the hype. I'd catch it a few times on old Toonami, but it just never really captured my attention the way it did for so many others. Never even really made the discrepancy that it was anime, it was just another cartoon to me as a kid. 

    But the funny thing is, you don't even really have to be a DBZ fan to still be affected by it. While I never really watched the show itself, I was exposed to it by the animations by fans it inspired, specifically Super Mario Bros. Z, a fanfiction sprite animation series by one Alvin Earthworm where Sonic and Shadow team up with the Mario Bros. to fight Mecha Sonic for the chaos emeralds and prevent him from destroying any more worlds. There was that and Nazo Unleashed, which was a flash animation that used frames of the show for its fight scenes, which was the rawest shit ever to me as an adolescent. These animationss' fight scenes, which were very heavily inspired by Dragon Ball Z, are what inspired me to practice my art and work my way up towards animating.

    So while there may have been a few middle men involved, but even my creative mind's been influenced by Toriyama. And for what it's worth? I'm thankful for the madness he's given me. All the AMVs and fight scenes I concoct in my head while either laying in bed unable to sleep or taking a shower. Who knows. Maybe I actually will watch the show just for some ideas on animation techniques.

    While I may not have personally been as enamored with DBZ as everyone else, I knew someone very closely who was an absolute madlad for it.

    His name was Jeysen Lyons (middle), and he's probably one of the best friends I've ever had in my entire life. Hell, maybe even the best. I met Jeysen back in my very first year of middle school, along with Masatoshi and Chris, my first real friends after having spent my elementary days ostracized among the other kids to the point of suicidal thoughts. 

    He was a really funny kid, dirty jokes galore and could quote entire YouTube Poop videos from memory (and we had some much raunchier shit back then lmao, it really was a different time from today). It was always more fun when Jeysen was around.

    After graduating middle school, I found it harder to keep in touch. I'd always get so engrossed with my own life that I could never really keep up with old friends like I'd want to. Never was good at keeping up. But there were still some summers where we could get together at his mom's apartment for his birthday, July 10. Eventually, his mom found work in another state, and they had to move to Mississippi. After that, I hadn't heard from him for a while. I don't remember how, but at some point I managed to get ahold of Jeysen's Steam account and could talk to him from there, and we friended each other on Discord. It was always so much chatting with him online, though sometimes he would some concerning memes, which wouldn't be surprising considering he lurked 4chan.

    On that note, it seemed like he absorbed the sentiments regarding us queers as probably a lot of 'channers would normally have, ranging from "don't be publicly visible" to "just need to be shot". Once my egg cracked, it became one of those things that were more...complicated. And thanks to that, I wasn't sure how to tell him about...well, me.

    I wasn't sure how he'd react. Would he accept me while thinking me stranger tan he thought? Would he have still considered me a friend but disrespected my identity openly? Would he have completely and totally hated me, moving forward? I wanted to tell him, but I always got too nervous whenever I tried, so we'd just end up chatting, which was always still fun, but I so badly wanted to break the ice with him at some point.

    Other than that, we'd even talk about each other's personal projects, like my Revolutionary Vanguard Minerva, and his Perfect Universe, which is about a high school boy that gets caught in an alien war of good and evil and attains god-like power in the midst of it, and has to try to keep it from driving him mad. I always thought it was an interesting premise. I wish I asked him more questions about it.

    At some point two years ago, Jeysen contacted me sounding...exasperated. Panicked. I told him that whatever was happening, he could talk to me, and that I'd be there for him whenever he'd need me. But after I said that, he just said he'd be fine, and then left.

    Fast-forward to days later, in the middle of calling my representatives about another horrendous internet bill that came back, I tried talking to Jeysen again, as I was a bit worried. I got a response, asking me if I was "M". I asked them to clarify, and they asked if I was [deadname]. I said yeah.

And they told me they were his mom, and that Jeysen had died.

    I thought it was a really strange prank at first. I even got angry, told them to knock it the fuck off. But then I looked up his name, and sure enough, there he was, in an obituary.

I couldn't believe it. Jeysen really did do it. I lost my best friend. 

I lost my brother.

    From what his mom said, he was frantic about something involving "docksing". I'm thinking she meant doxxing. It sounded like at some point Jeysen caught the attention of somebody who knew how to get people's info, and that sent him into a panic attack while they were already trying to transfer him to different medication for bipolarism. 

    His demons got the best of him in a moment of emotional instability, and he was finally pushed too far, and now he's gone.

    It...still doesn't feel real. It still feels like I could just reach out to him, right now, on this chat client like usual and start talking to him again. Maybe it'll never feel "real" to me. But it is. My boy is gone.

    His mom assured me it's not my fault, and I know it isn't. But I keep replaying scenarios in my head, where maybe if I'd just...been the one to approach more, maybe he wouldn't have done it. If I'd taken more time to ask him about his day, ask him about Perfect Universe, to watch DBZ or other anime with him...

    If I'd just gone out of my way to spend more time with him... Maybe I could've made him stay. Maybe I could've saved him. Maybe, maybe... I could go over all the "maybes" in the world, but it wouldn't change the reality that he is not here anymore. Not a day has gone by where I haven't thought of him at least once.

    And this is actually why Toriyama's death hit me harder than other deaths. I actually started crying when I found out. It felt like I was losing a part of my bro, in a way. Which is probably silly, that's a whole-ass other person, another individual. It's not like DBZ is going to stop being a thing because he died. I have no doubt is probably as immortalized in Japanese and probably even worldwide culture as Astro Boy. Actually, more than Astro Boy. Atom's admittedly a little more niche...

    But the worst part? I never got to tell him. I never gave him the chance to reject me, but I also never gave him the chance to accept me either. Now I'll never know. I'll never know whether our friendship was flimsy and fleeting or made of iron. I'd like to hope it was, personally, but... 

    Either way, I'll always miss him. Life's much duller without my brother with me. I have so much that I want to talk to him about. So many new ideas, so many new things I wanna do with my life, now that I'm finally going through my transition journey. But I guess that'll all have to wait till I'm up there with him.

He'd better be up there. 😠

Lemme tell ya, folks. 

If I go up there and find out the Big Boss in the sky put him in the incinerator for "being a quitter" when he was already in inconceivable pain that caused him to take his own life? 

He is catching these fucking hands of mine. I don't care if I'm gonna lose, it's on sight for doing mah boi like that. 👿🔪

But in all seriousness, if I could go back in time, even if it meant I had to start my life completely over, I wouldn't even blink if it meant I could see my brother again. I can only hope he's in a better place right now.

MY BELOVEDS!!! This got kind of out of hand and is over 2k words, so I'm putting it under a cut.

1. Who is the most affectionate?

In public? Wheeljack. Starscream is NOT a fan of PDA. It’s not professional, it’s a show of weakness, he’s too good for that, etc etc etc etc. In private, it’s a tie between the two of them! Depends on what moods they’re in. Since Wheeljack’s very autistic and Starscream’s very traumatized, they both have times when they don’t want to be touched, so physical affection varies. With other kinds of affection, it’s more constant and still balanced pretty evenly between them. 

2. Big spoon/Little spoon?

Oooo this is a good one bc it’s almost always Wheeljack. Not only is he the shorter one, but Starscream’s wings make trying to be the little spoon into a bit of an ordeal. Wheeljack’s get in the way, but they’re much smaller and easier to deal with. Sometimes, Starscream will be the little spoon for a while, but more often, either he’s the big spoon or they cuddle front-to-front. 

3. Most common argument?

Oh man. Starscream is a special creature, so they have special arguments. Their most common one is variations on “Starscream, you need to stop acting in your own self-interest to the detriment of literally everyone else around you.” Runner up is “Starscream, you need to stop treating everyone like they’re out to get you.” 

4. Favorite non-sexual activity?

Reading together! They both have very demanding jobs, so it’s nice to just sit together and read or watch a show for a while after work. It usually slowly turns into cuddly reading, and then just cuddles. 

5. Who is most likely to carry the other?

Hmmmm Wheeljack, probably. Starscream is eminently carriable. He has that energy about him. 

6. What is their favorite feature of their partner’s?

Wheeljack’s favorite feature of Starscream’s is face, and specifically the shape of his cheeks and his eyes. Starscream switches frames a lot, but Wheeljack recognized him immediately when he woke up in RID. Starscream’s face is constant, and constantly pretty. Starscream’s favorite features of Wheeljack’s are his audial fins! He thinks they’re very cute (he’s right). He especially loves how they flash when Wheeljack gets really into what he’s talking about. 

7. What’s the first thing that changes when they realize they have feelings for the other?

For Wheeljack, the first thing that changes is the kind of time he spends with Starscream. He starts hanging out with him in non-professional and non-coincidental contexts, and then spending more one-on-one time with him. They slowly start spending a lot of time in each other’s quarters. For Starscream, what changes is the amount of time spent with Wheeljack. When he realizes his own feelings, he starts spending WAY less time with Wheeljack. Basically takes a huge step back with no warning. This is not conducive to kindling a relationship, Starscream. You can’t just do things because you’re scared, Starscream. 

8. Nicknames? & if so, how did they originate?

Super super basic. Jackie and Star, just derivatives of their names. They’ll both also call each other “sweetheart” because they’re big saps. 

9. Who worries the most?

In general, Starscream. He is a ball of anxiety with wings. About the other, Wheeljack. I lied. The ball of anxiety also has significant problems to go with the wings, and Wheeljack has good reason to worry about him. 

10. Who remembers what the other one always orders at a restaurant?

Wheeljack. Starscream may be in love, but he is always a bit of a self-centered bastard.

They both kind of initiated their first kiss simultaneously. It was a mutual thing and, keeping in that vein, they’re pretty mutual about all of their kisses. Wheeljack initiates more, but not by much. It mostly comes down to Starscream and his dislike of PDA. 

13. Who reaches for the other’s hand first?

The first time? Wheeljack. Now, most of the time, still Wheeljack. Starscream is stubborn about everything, including reaching out for any kind of support or comfort. Wheeljack’s not a fan of holding hands for too long, though, because even if robots don’t sweat, the texture and feel of palms right up against each other is weird for him. 

14. Who kisses the hardest?

Starscream DEFINITELY. He has drawn blood more than once (it’s okay; Wheeljack loves him and his enthusiasm and his fangs). He loves kissing, which is part of the reason he doesn’t initiate much in public. He doesn’t just want a peck on the lips. He wants a makeout session. He also uses Wheeljack’s audial fins as handles quite often. 

15. Who wakes up first?

On a work day, Starscream. Wheeljack, being a fairly well-known, well-off, well-connected engineer, gets to largely decide his own schedule, and he’s a night owl, so most days he gets to his lab around 10am and stays late. Starscream’s schedule is much less flexible and he usually has prep work for meetings, so he gets up around 6:30 most days. Sometimes, Wheeljack gets up with him, because Wheeljack takes forever to wake up and he likes to be lazy in the mornings and get a few extra Starscream cuddles before Starscream has to be out the door. 

16. Who wants to stay in bed just a little longer?

Jackieeeee. He wants to sleep in he wants to cuddle he wants to be a nuisance and make it much harder for Starscream to start his day. It’s very hard to get up the willpower to start a day full of meetings and paperwork when you have a very warm very lovey Wheeljack in your bed tempting you with kisses and cuddles. Starscream shows incredible strength every day he makes it to work on time.  

17. Who says I love you first?

Wheeljack, and Starscream FLIPS. They were fuckbuddies for a while before starting their relationship, and because of Circumstances and Wheeljack being a sad dramatic gay bitch, he drops the L-word on Starscream as a way of introducing the idea of a more serious relationship. Starscream is VERY skittish when it comes to serious relationships, so he doesn’t react well. He also doesn’t say “I love you” back for almost a month. Not because of any lack of feeling, just because that’s terrifying and there’s nothing Starscream hates more than vulnerability. 

18. Who leaves little notes in the other’s one lunch? (Bonus: what does it usually say?)

Neither, but Starscream usually pings Wheeljack around lunchtime just to check in.

19. Who tells their family/friends about their relationship first?

OUGH so they keep everything very low-key, verging on secret, for a while. Starscream is, well, Starscream, and most of the people Wheeljack knows aren’t going to be happy with their relationship. Wheeljack waits about three months before telling most of his friends, and Starscream doesn’t really have any friends. BUT. But. Wheeljack was pining and angsting to Ratchet months before they got together, and Ratchet had advice for Wheeljack as far as the Bot/Con cultural divide goes. Ratchet knew right away just because Wheeljack couldn’t keep the stupid grin off his face the first time they talked after they got together. 

Starscream’s tough bc this sounds horrible but he doesn’t really have anyone to tell? I guess technically Bumblebee knew first because of the whole ghost situation but that doesn’t really count bc he was dead at the time. The first person Starscream tells in a one-on-one conversation is Skyfire, but that’s MONTHS after they get together. Mostly, their relationship just kind of became obvious to the people around them. So it’s complicated. 

20. What do their family/friends think of their relationship?

Oh man. It’s Bad. It’s Pretty Bad. Windblade and Ratchet are really the only ones who think Wheeljack hasn’t lost his mind. For a long time, basically everyone thinks Wheeljack is either making a horrible mistake or being manipulated. Starscream is not a good person, and his shittiness is very public knowledge. The DETAILS of his shittiness are very available to the military social group Wheeljack’s a part of. It takes a long time for the tension to fade and for people to realize that Wheeljack and Starscream are actually pretty good for each other. 

21. Who is more likely to start dancing with the other?

Starscream!!! Wheeljack Cannot Dance he is very clumsy he’s terrible at it but that does not stop Starscream from spinning him around the living room and dipping him and laughing when Wheeljack steps on his toes. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it’s very romantic and silly and sweet. 

22. Who cooks more/who is better at cooking?

Cybertronians don’t really do cooking? But if they did, Starscream would be the better cook. 

23. Who comes up with cheesy pick up lines?

Wheeljack. He is a dork at his core. He comes up with the WORST lines and tries them at the most random times. Starscream has snorted energon out his nose several times before thanks to well-timed pickup lines. HOWEVER. Every once in a great while Starscream will come out with the worst pickup line you’ve ever heard. He is getting them from Thundercracker.

24. Who whispers inappropriate things in the other’s ear during inappropriate times?

Starscreammmmmm. Fucking bastard. 

25. Who needs more assurance?

Starscream definitely. I’ve talked a bit before about how I think he has the robot equivalent of Borderline Personality Disorder, and needing assurance is definitely a part of that. Despite the show of narcissism, his actual self esteem is in the gutter and his relationship track record is abysmal at best, so he needs assurance pretty regularly that he’s still wanted and that their relationship is okay. It’s hard for him to read the cues that would otherwise tell him how the relationship is going, because Megatron pretty thoroughly scrambled the “healthy relationships” part of his brain. 

26. What would be their theme song?

Here’s their playlist, and on that playlist, The Song is definitely Pierre by Ryn Weaver. It’s about the “I can’t let him in / you call me up and ask me how I’ve been / I’ll call your bluff and / keep on tellin’ you lies” it’s about the “you play me rough but I won’t let you in” and MOST IMPORTANTLY it’s about the “I’ll come around.” 

27. Who would sing to their child back to sleep?

Wheeljack? But tbh neither of them are cut out to be parents. I love them both but that would be terrible. 

28. What do they do when they’re away from each other?

First and foremost: be annoying to the people around them. God you have never met two people who can complain more about how much they miss their partner. Wheeljack won’t even properly complain, he’ll just mope and sigh and talk about Starscream 24/7, which is arguably worse. Starscream, predictably, will swing between pretending that nothing is wrong and that he has no feelings and acting like he’s dying. 

Fortunately, with Cybertronian tech, it’s easy to keep in touch even over long distances, so they call and text a lot. 

29. one headcanon about this OTP that breaks your heart

[UNICRON SPOILERS!!!!] 

The fact that Wheeljack died makes it easier for Starscream to sacrifice himself. 

He finds out a few hours after it happened. He’s well-informed, one of the first to know about everything happening with Unicron, both out of his own demand and out of necessity, but even the people involved in the mission took a little while to figure out Wheeljack didn’t make it. Starscream isn’t told gently. He’s told as part of a brief. He does his best to keep a straight face. 

When the time comes to activate the Talisman, he thinks of who he has left. He thinks of his trine, broken. He thinks of Skyfire, who hates him. He thinks of Windblade, who he’s taught decently and left with a good support system. He thinks of Wheeljack, who he loves, who loves him back, who sacrificed himself to save a planet of organics. He doesn’t know if he believes in an afterlife, but he knows if there is one, he and Wheeljack won’t be going to the same place. He thinks about a life without Wheeljack, without anyone. 

He activates the Talisman. 

30. one headcanon about this OTP that mends it

Oh thank god I broke my own heart with that last one. Wheeljack loves infodumping to Starscream! Starscream is the worst listener ever to 99% of people in the universe. Wheeljack is the single exception. Starscream will listen to Wheeljack talk about whatever he’s currently interested in for HOURS. He loves how happy and relaxed Wheeljack gets. He loves his happy stims and the way his audial fins flash. He loves learning from Wheeljack, even if sometimes he gets too lost in the gay thoughts to follow some of the concepts. 

This is a sort of related headcanon, so I’ll throw it in as a bonus. Wheeljack snaps his fingers a lot as a happy stim, especially when he’s talking about/working with a special interest, and by the time they’ve been together six months, Starscream has picked up the snapping thing, too. It’s very cute they are SO in love.

1/ What sucks for me is that I literally JUST got into Animaniacs right after Season 3 aired. It was a complete coincidence that I got into it when I did -- I didn't even know Season 3 had just dropped. (I knew Animaniacs had been rebooted of course! I'd seen memes, and I knew several people who loved the Reboot.) I hadn't been a HUGE fan of Animaniacs when I was a kid, but I'd known it, liked a lot from it, so I came into it really interested and having a great time! I thought it was ongoing!

I feel for you. What you're feeling is very natural, and, even though I've been here a couple of years longer, I feel it too. Not all of us were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. I started actively participating in the fandom around two years ago now, and that was several months after its peak of activity. Of course, even the level of activity in April 2021 was orders of magnitude higher than now.

It feels like a golden heyday you can't reach. You can look at it, but you can never go back in time and be a part of it. It's easy to dwell on. "If only I had discovered Animaniacs sooner, I could've been one of the OGs. I could've been here since 2014." I'm sure you feel similarly. But, things work out how they work out. I wouldn't have discovered Animaniacs at all if I hadn't happened to have the reboot's trailer recommended to me on YouTube, or if I hadn't happened to be a softie for revivals of old shows I didn't even watch. Who knows where I'd be then? Who knows where you'd be if you hadn't decided to watch season 3 at all? It just as easily could've been worse.

There will always be new people trickling into the fandom, discovering it for the first time. You've given me perspective, because while I feel like I joined the fandom much too late, here you are doing it two years later. Two years from now, someone new will join the fandom, and they'll look at you the same way. "If only I could've joined the fandom back in 2023, seen how it was right after a new season released..."

It does feel like mourning. It feels very similar to grief. I have had moments where I've thought of the characters, and it felt like I've actually lost someone close to me. Of course, it doesn't actually come close to matching the feeling of grief I'd have to lose someone close in real life, but the emotion is just as real. If Animaniacs has touched you inside, no matter exactly how, that love is real. It becomes a part of you. Sometimes, what you really need is time. You may feel like you'll never recover. "It's been two months, and I'm still just as sad as I was before. Will I ever get over it?" I have often had that exact same thought. But, maybe two months isn't enough. Maybe you need six. Maybe you need a year. Eventually, our brains will adjust to the new normal, and we can go back to just being fans. The show may have ended (hopefully not forever), but Animaniacs is just starting for you.

There are positives to being in a fandom like this. No corporate influence, no promotional tactics, just us fans trying to keep the memory alive. You're right. There's still so much more to do. When I joined the fandom, I had a vision of the things I wanted to do just to get started, just in my first few months. I haven't even finished those yet. What's important is that we support each other and allow that creativity to flourish. Remember that anything you contribute, anything at all, is an incredible gift to everyone else who cares just as much as you. Even if it's just a random funny thought you have, or if it's a ten page thesis you doubt anyone else will care to read. Putting yourself out there is brave, it's selfless, and it's incredibly rewarding in the end.

In short? It may be hard, but it's important to cherish the memories you have, not the memories you could have had. Those aren't real. These are, and you just as easily could've been without them. Don't be sad that you could've been here earlier. Be happy that you're here now. I'm happy to have you!

Nanami wasn't alone, no, someone was always in his corner, he never saw that. The years of him thinking that no one cared for him. They wanted him to fight. It was strange,

yet Geto was there. When Haibara was killed. He confronts him, tells him to take some time off, he makes sure he is alright, and yet he still thinks he is alone. Geto wasn't even close to Nanami growing up, being stuck around Gojo all the time.

He was always second to everyone.

favorite thing about them

she’s just. genuinely very enjoyable. like I feel like other characters I have more specific things to say about them but she’s literally just very fun to watch I love her beautiful woman weird guy who is also a worm energy. her swagger her panache her power. all the scenes where she’s doing her professional science job and also just saying some vaguely insane shit are important to me. but then like I also think one of the most interesting things in her character was kind of unintentional as they were trying to sort her out where early jadzia was a lot quieter and more serious and theoretically more like she was before joining and then she just kind of evolves into her final form. like I don’t think that was intentional I think they just kinda went hmm this character isn’t working let’s try something else but I think the idea that sometimes it’s this gradual progression towards a balance (in a different way than it is for ezri later as well) is an interesting one.

it’s too easy to talk about tears of the prophets and the whole like “she’s never mentioned that they want kids before now but since they’re killing her off she is now Woman Who Wants A Baby because i guess her death isn’t tragic enough otherwise, and it feels like cheating to talk about how “if worf hadn’t shown up it would’ve been you” (idr if that’s the exact quote and I refuse to look it up but it’s like that) is a horrendous retcon, but holy shit everything that happened at the end of s6 into s7 was like. it’s just so clearly spiteful?? like I’m not breaking new ground here we all know it but god.

it’s funny I feel like there aren’t a lot of wildly differing opinions on jadzia. like generally speaking pretty much everyone thinks she’s enjoyable? I feel like I have seen people say she’s not the best written character and I don’t think they’re Wrong (and i do feel like to a degree they do more interesting trill stuff with ezri) but it also doesn’t. bother me that much in this case tbh.

what would you describe the dynamic between the characters are?

Janie

Savage makes her a little cautious? But she also finds the utter randomness hilarious and amazing. They are siblings your honor. Chaos siblings

Swanson is her teacher, because she comes to the internet with nearly no people skills, let alone knowledge of what is dangerous. She latches onto him as an older brother.

Nutmeg is Janie’s role model, confidant, and a shoulder to cry on when times get rough. Janie can come to her with homework questions, or just to talk about how her day was. But Nutmeg is still a kid in Janie’s eyes, even though Nutmeg is 21. They are a lot alike, and Janie is loving having an older sister again since her irl one is so busy with college.

Momma is like Nutmeg, in that she’s the person Janie can go to with anything. The difference being that Momma has the adult awe of seeming to hold the world. (Janie is very young minded for a 13 year old, patterning her off of myself in that matter) Momma also runs the chat, so she makes sure they all play nice. Janie can find security in her if all else fails.

Savage

Janie is a sister. One Savage has never had! Learning to play gentler with her is weird? But worth is for the fun times they share. Savage also teaches her stuff xey really shouldn’t when Momma isn’t looking.

Swanson is the meme expert. So obviously these two get along great. You can find them pulling/plotting pranks a lot. Best buddies! Though Swanson loves to pull the age/height card when Savage does’t want to agree with him. Guess he didn’t want those kneecaps after all.

Nutmeg is an oddity to Savage. Very quiet and shy? Xey enjoy scaring her at first, jumping out of corners and flashing xeir sharp teeth. That is until Momma tells xem to stop. Nutmeg is fun sometimes, but most of the time she seems so quiet.

Momma is a party pooper. Savage is only still in the group chat because of Janie and Swanson. If not for them, xey would’ve left long ago. Though, Momma is fun on game nights, and some other times. It’s not like xey care about her though.

Swanson

Janie is a dumb little kid that would’ve drowned if not for him. In fact she still might if he doesn’t keep an eye on her. She’s kinda annoying that way. Swanson doesn’t really like kids, but this one isn’t too bad. Getting to teach her things is fun!

Savage is a riot! It’s like putting those mints in soda and shaking it! But being around xem too much is a headache. So you have to keep tabs on that.

Nutmeg is hard to pin down for Swanson. She’s quiet and meek, but can keep up with all of them when it counts. It’s not that he dislikes her? He just isn’ as good friends with her as he is with Janie or Savage.

Momma is someone Swanson doesn’t really like. If they are stuck in a conversation by themselves it really shows too. “Ok mom” is something Swanson throws at her a lot.

Nutmeg

Janie is a little sweetheart who she loves talking with. A little sister that the lonely only child always wanted. Nutmeg loves hearing her talk, and having girl time, and watching her follow her dreams. She is also so impressed by how mature Janie is about some things. Letting Nutmeg talk about the things bothering her too, even though Nutmeg wouldn’t usually do that. Janie is easy to talk to.

Savage is terrifying at first. But Nutmeg can tell xey mostly want a reaction, so she keeps jumping and squealing for a while because it is fun. She thinks there’s something behind that wild exterior, but there’s too high a chance of getting bitten to try and get close. Maybe with time.

Swanson is a younger brother. A strange, annoying, unreadable younger brother who only want to annoy you. You love them? But you also- want to choke hold them masked as a hug so the parents don’t notice and you can get some peace to read your book.

Momma is the rock that everyone can depend on, Nutmeg included. They bond over being the caring types, and love watching the chat grow and play. Momma helps Nutmeg with problems she doesn’t feel comfortable telling the others too.

Momma

Janie is a sweet little girl that needs some guidance? But she learns fast and is one of the daughters Momma wishes she had irl. She loves her to bits, and loves watching her grown, learn, love, laugh, and thrive. Now if only the chaos duo would stop teaching the sweet angel things.

Savage, one half of the chaos duo. An ankle biter to a literal degree. But a sweetheart in the same way brownies (the house fairies) are. If you don’t acknowledge the fact xey are sweet, the keep being sweet. If you tell xem? You will suddenly have to change your passwords. Not joking. The computer only played Rick Astley. This child is feral.

Swanson, the other half of the chaos duo. While not as feral? Its impossible for Momma to get close to him, no matter what she tries. She tries talking about his interests, with the rest of the group, by being silly and doing pranks too? Nothing works. It kinda hurts her feelings? But you can’t win/adopt them all. So she let’s him go.

Nutmeg is one of Momma’s closets online friends. A daughter, but also an equal. They tell each other everything and Momma reluctantly opens up to her (Which Nutmeg notices and sees the similarities to herself). Momma is so proud of Nutmeg, but also thinks she is could do more knowing the talent behind those glasses. But also knows Nutmeg needs a place to be herself, so she lets her do that above all else.

Generally:

You can just DM people, but it's easier if you have a topic in mind that you can talk about with them with so you can start a conversation. "Hey, I saw x post! I thought it was cool, and it made me think more about X!" Easy peasy.

Likewise, you can basically send an ask for any reason. Sometimes you can have a question with a purpose or a comment on something they made but sometimes people in the same community will play "ask games" or just dick around with each other and forward copypastas. It helps if you already somewhat know each other, but a polite introduction to someone via a question is a good start too.

Reblogs are for basically anything. This is all we had communication-wise before DMs and rebloggable asks, except the for the (now gone) fanmail. It's a way to carry a conversation and it's a way to contribute to the topic and sometimes to add reactions or memes. It's the only automatically visible way to make a point.

The only difference between a reblog and tags are that tags are transient. They (traditionally, unless someone screenshots them) disappear into the ether with any reblog after yours. Think of them as categorization before communication. If you actually want to make a point, put it in a reblog, because screen readers can't read those screenshots of tags unless someone manually goes in to transcribe it in the image description, but if you're just adding something short and silly, it can be in the tags.

@ing people on posts they might like is easier when you know them, but it's also not uncommon to @ people you peripherally know if you know the sort of things they like. That's one way of many to start a conversation with them. There are also tag games people play where you can @ strangers you want to know better so that you can see more from them.

The chat function is horrible and I wish it went away, if I'm honest. That's my stance on that; if people ask questions, make points, or contribute to conversations in the comments on a post, they will never be publicly visible unless you go in and screenshot it and do the whole rigmarole to make it show up on your own version of the post, and then you have to @ them in your response to make sure they actually see it. I don't like that they're there and they make it harder to keep everyone who wants to contribute to a post in the loop. <- biased "older" tumblr user thoughts

The important thing to note is that, generally, you can do whatever you want forever on your own blog. If youre on someone else's post, you don't want to be rude to them where they can see you, obviously, but they're not going to be stomping over any additions they don't care about either. People generally do want to talk to each other about things on tumblr, but this is primarily a blogging site, so everyone's in their own little bubble up until you actually reach out and talk to someone. Which I am very bad about, hence why I am here and not on twitter but still.

Don't sweat it too much. Watch other people interact, be polite, and have fun.

Messaging people for the first time is so hard. What am I supposed to say? Like, "You seem really odd and your blog intrigues me.
