The sounds of traffic and wheels on the road was all that filled the early morning air as you stifled a yawn threatening to leak out of your mouth. It was rather early but you promised to drive your Aunt to the airport the day after Halloween. You hadn't gotten much sleep the night prior staying late at the party and spending a lot of time removing glittery make up on your skin. On top of that you were going to be a little late for work because of said trip you had to take.
"Thank you so much for dropping me off, Hun. These late night readings are killing my posture," your aunt said stretching out an arm. "Now I know why women my age get grey hairs! HAHA!"
You rolled your eyes at her joke before slowly coming to a stop at a stop sign. A giant suitcase was behind her in the passenger seat and you were ninety nine percent sure it was mostly packed up with fliers and other business promotional things. Not something you thought would be taken to a wedding but then again youĀ  were talking about your aunt here. Nothing she did ever made sense.
"It's not a problem. And I did promise I would." Turning on your turn signal, you turned left going on down the road where you could make out the airport just a little bit aways. "When are you coming back?"
She waved a hand. "Two or three days from now. I'll call a taxi when I get back don't worry. I just appreciate you being nice enough to take me." She then smiled at you before reaching out to ruffle your hair like a kid. "You're a good kid. Now I can see why that big teddy bear likes you so much!"
"Not while I'm driving," you waved her hand off but smiled. "But I guess so. I feel so lucky to have him after everything that happened. It was like life finally decided to stop making me it's punching bag ....At least when it comes to dating."
The older woman smiled more. "He's a good one. I predicted a happy healthy like for you two."
"You mean when you read his palm without asking him first?"
She shrugged. "He didn't mind and everything I saw was predicable anyhoo- You still haven't let me read yours."
"Because I don't believe in those things no offense. Besides the last time you read my palm, you said I would 'be so beautiful many men and women will fall for me'." You rolled your eyes again putting on your turn signal again before slowly turning into the air port's parking lot. "And that was five years ago get it still hasn't happened."
"Give it time! My foresights always come true sooner or later." She smiled despite you sighing in response. "WHELP! Looks like I've got a date with the skies! See you in a few days!" She had just grabbed onto the car and was about to open it and step out-
"Wait!" In question she turned back around with a raised brow at you as you started patting down your clothes and frantically digging around in your pockets until you eventually pulled out something. Well a lot of somethings. "I need your help with something."
"Oh?" What she thought was a deck of cards, was actually..a deck of cards but not the playing card variety. It seemed to be a stack of business cards that was held up to her.
"There's someone who's loosing business really badly. He runs a dojo somewhere around here and I feel like I want to help him. I know you're pretty good at networking and know everyone there is..Do you think you can help?"
The softer eyes of the older woman eyed you in interest before glancing at the business cards. Taking them with a hum and eyeing the words inked onto their flimsy cardboard bodies... Before she smiled.Ā
"I think I can do something with these. I'm surprised you want to help a stranger so badly."
You shrugged. "I don't know why I want to...it just feels like the right thing to do. Plus he's one of Gyomei's friends. It might be good to try and get along with them."
Your aunt hummed again and you flinched as she suddenly grabbed your hand. Looking at the palm very closely and her brows rising in some kind of realization. "Interesting."
"What is?"
"Oh, nothing.~" She giggled dropping your hand and waving you off. "Don't worry about a thing honey. Just leave everything to me. By the end of this month, everyone is gonna flock to ya!"
Your face turned to confusion. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"Oh you'll find out soon enough. Oh. Look at the time! I better go before I miss my flight. You better get going before you're late too."
You hadn't the foggiest idea of what your eccentric aunt was talking about but shrugged it off as her being eccentric again. With he out of your car, you just made the long drive back home and to the college where you were unsurprisingly late and trudged yourself into the daycare tired and sore. Hopefully the children behaved especially good today so you wouldn't have to worry about anything else other than being scolded by your boss.Ā
"You look sleepy, Ms. Y/n," one little girl pointed out as soon as you slowly walked into the large playroom trying to tie your apron in the back.
....Yeah. Today might be a very long day for you.Ā
Unluckily the comment made by the little girl, whom you gently shooed to go listen to a story someone else was reading to other kids, was not missed by your boyfriend who looked up from where he was wiping glitter glue off a toy someone dropped on top of the arts and crafts table. You couldn't help the tired sigh that escaped you as Gyomei was quick to walk on over and you felt his form practically loom over you as his head tilted.
"You're tired." It wasn't a question, it was a statement that you winced at.Ā
"A little bit."
"I thought I asked you to stay home if you didn't get enough sleep."
You waved him off despite the fact that he obviously couldn't see you. "I'm not gonna pass out. I'm just a little bit tired, and I have things to do today."
"Such as?"
Working? Getting today's notes from Giyuu, the project you have with him, and you promised to bake a few things for everyone.Ā  Not to mention grocery shopping, bills, cleaning up your house-
You jumped as a large hand suddenly tilted your head back up towards the staring white eyes. "None of that." He spoke as if he could literally read your mind. "After work I want you to go right home and rest. I'll inform Shinobu and Tomioka you won't be able to make the appointment today."
"W-What? But I promised them I'd do it with them not to mention that I also-"
A warmth presses against your head making you instantly turn red and a few little kids gagged and closed their eyes at the sight. One pointed at you both with a disgusted face.
"Ew, Mr. Mei! That's cooties!," she accused him to which he chuckled at her and smiledĀ
"Perhaps so. But I meant what I said." You were wide awake now as he patted the top of your head. "Go home and rest. If you don't I'll just take your keys and carry you home myself."
"Yo-Yo-You're bluffing!"
He hummed. "Am I?"
You decided against wanting to see if he'd actually do that and quickly scurried away when one of the younger toddlers cried out in frustration at his building blocks falling over again and again. His chubby little hands and waddle walk keeping knocking over the blocks he did stack up again and again. You'd have to console him and played with the little guy to make sure he was having a good time.Ā
Things weren't really too much different for the rest of the day. You did your job and helped to start clean up and check out the kids as their parents started arriving. However you didn't see Sanemi turn up. It wasn't even Kanae. Or Giyuu or Shinobu or even Mitsuri whom you were pretty good friends with by now. Instead you were treated to the sight of a tall and visibly muscular man whom walked in through the doorway. Orange hair framing his brightly smiling face and just as fiery eyes blinking around until they settled on you.
With a beaming smile he walked right up to you and you blinked as he stood before you. "HELLO, Y/N!!"
You winced at the high volume but still smiled. "Hi, Kyojuro." You greeted the positive man. "What are you doing here?"
"I've been sent to fetch Koto!," he proclaimed hands on his hips, "Sanemi's running late with his tutoring classes so he asked me to come get Koto for him!"
You blinked. "Really? I don't remember Sanemi telling me this and it's policy to call ahead of time for alternate pick ups."
His head tilted like an owl. "Really? He told the front desk lady this morning."
Oh right. You weren't here that morning. You held up a hand. "Let me go ask real quick. No offense. It's just part of the job."
"NO OFFENSE TAKEN!!"
You still chuckled despite yourself and left for just a few minutes. Confirmed with a coworker who was there that morning. And then returned a moment later with Koto on your hip and his daycare bag Sanemi always dropped off with him slung over your shoulder. The toddler was fiddling with a little car but let out a happy gasp upon seeing the red haired man.
"Ren-Ren!," he cheered throwing up his hands excitedly, "Hi!"
"Hello, Koto!" He greeted holding out his arms to the toddler. "Did you have a fun day?"
Koto was happily accepted into his arms with a nod. "Uh huh! Miss Toji reads us Beauty n da beast."
"Ooh. A fun story."
"Where's Nemi?"
"He's late, but I'm gonna take you to the park while we wait."
"YAY!!"
You chuckled at the adorable sight of him holdingĀ  up the bag. "Here. You'll be needing this. How's Mrs. Shinazugawa by the way?"
"Thank you!" The bag was taken away from you before he again tilted his head in question. Like he seemed to be studying you for a second. "She is doing better. Still a little stressed about paying back everything, but eventually she will and everything will go back to normal for everyone involved. However I believe that you had a hand in her soon to be relief."
You blinked at him. "Oh. You mean the money." He nodded and you hummed. "Well like I told everyone else, he just needed it more than me."
"A thousand dollars and free food for an entire year are a hard thing to give up for most people..and yet you have it all away to a at the time complete stranger."
You winced. "That's not totally true. I-..I didn't really think about giving it to him at first. Really I didn't think of anyone else but myself at first but-.."
"But?," he asked raising a brow in question as you sighed.
"I dunno. I didn't really have a mom growing up so-"...You looked down fingers drumming on the countertop. "So I guess seeing him trying so hard to help his mom made me feel really sorry for him. Maybe it's something I'd wanna do too if my mom was around y'know..Uh.." You stopped when you saw him intently staring at you Koto mindlessly toying with his toy. "Uh. S-Sorry. Didn't mean to ramble on."
"Please. Do not apologize for the honesty. It's rare for someone to have an honest heart and even rather for them to admit things we may not be proud up." His smile got even wider if that was possible. "I can now see why you were able to make such great friends with everyone. You're a good person!"
Despite yourself a small pink appeared on your face, hand waving at him. "Shucks. Stop it. You're embarrassing me. Oh. That reminds me. How's your dad doing? Anything change?"
He shook his head. "Not yet but a few of Senjuro's classmates have shown interest in the dojo! We just have to remain optimistic and keep working at it!"
Ah. So your aunt hadn't worked her magic yet. Makes sense. It hasn't even been a whole day yet...Eh. you really shouldn't expect results to just happen like that. It was as unrealistic as her predicting that men and women would fall for you like some badly written fantasy story.
You nodded. "We gotta look on the bright side of things for sure! Anyways it was nice to see you again, Kyojuro. I hope to see you again sometime."
"INDEED! And thank you again for those delicious cookies! Everyone loved them!"
"Cookies?"
"Not for you I'm afraid!" In one movement the energetic man turned on his heel towards the door. "Now come! The swing sets and slides await us!"
"Yay! Swings!"
You couldn't help but laugh at the goofy man as he left with the giggling child. He certainly was a bright fellow. Everything would be ok. You were sure of that. Even if your efforts did nothing, surely the Rengoku's would be able to get by well.
Days passed by.Ā
The October fall being kissed goodbye slowly as the leaves still fell and gave way to that weird time of the months of November where the cool of fall was merging with the soon to be cold of winter and snow. Jackets, scarfs, and mittens were already being seen on so many walking around.Ā
It was on one of these days that a slow miracle was creeping up to its unsuspecting gift-y. Not quite a Christmas miracle but it'll do in a pinch for what was to be taken place that evening. A hot bowl of soup and a little bit of rice was always a quick and nice meal for a cold night like this. The kind of meal that'd help to cheer him up and reminded him just how much he loved his wife's cooking when the tray was placed in front of him and a warm kiss was pressed to his lips for a second.
Smiles were always his favorite part of her. Couldn't get enough of it as she smiled at him. "Here. I made some miso soup today. It ought to help you warm up after all the work you did."
Hard work? If you can call cleaning a barely used dojo and moping around all day hard work. He would've laughed at himself if he hadn't felt so frustrated with himself right now. Instead he kept quiet and pulled the bowl closer to him muttering a barely audible thanks. Her smile slowly gave way to a sad frown before she sighed and turned away. Slowly allowing herself to start preparing her own meal and a second tray for her youngest boy. She'd take him a meal as he was busy studying for a few exams before the Christmas break.Ā
The scooping of hot soup sloshing around in the pot was only paused when the distant sounds of a familiar beeping noise cascaded through the air. Catching her attention and only making her husband grunt again.
"Are you going to answer that?"
She didn't answer him. Letting the ladle spoon plop back down into the soul with a watery noise and quickly making her way towards the den where no doubt the home phone was ringing out for someone to answer it. It was not too long before the cold plastic was picked up from the receiver and help up to her ear.Ā
"Yes?"...Red eyes blinked. "Oh? I wasn't expecting a call from you. Is everything alright?" Her head turned around back towards the man still lazily picking at his soul with a spoon and not eating it. "Yes....Alright then."
Pitiful eyes didn't look up from the sloshing liquid of the soup even as footsteps approached back softly or even when he saw a pair of legs stop at his side out of the corner of his eyes. But he did blink as something was held out to his face. Took him two seconds to realize that it was a phone, and it took him one more second to look back up to his wife in question.
"Dear, it's Mr. Ubuyashiki."
A blink. "Who?"
"He's the chairman of Senjuro's school." The phone was nudged closer to him. "He wants to talk to you."
What? He grunted looking annoyed. "So? What does he want? If Senjuro's done something then-"
"Dear, please just speak to him."
There was a small three second pause before with an annoyed look the phone was taken from her and reluctantly held up to his ear. "Yes?"
"Ah! A different voice!" The voice of the phone was a man's. Clearly one he's never heard before. "Am I to assume that this is the husband of my wonderful calligraphy teacher?"
"What do you want?" He wasn't in the mood for the cheery bull that this voice seemed to have.
"Straight to the point then I see! Then I won't beat around the bush." The voice chuckled but gained a more professional feeling with it. "I heard that you are quite a coach!"
...Another blink. "What?"
"Recently I attended a little celebration of a good friend's son. Your name happened to be on a little business card handed out to me and I was reminded of your son. Polite young man he is."
"What is the point to this? Either spit it out or I'll hang up!" He REALLY was not in the mood to be talking to a man that liked to make random small chit chat even with the stern frown his wife was giving him.
"Of course," the man remained polite and patient despite his annoyance. "It reminded me of the petition Senjuro presented to me a little bit ago to start a kendo club. Usually I wouldn't mind clubs but one of our biggest school sponsors thought it would be a great idea to have an official kendo league added to our school. Frankly I couldn't agree more."
Huh. So his youngest finally did something worthwhile huh?...Guess that was good for him but-
"What does that have to do with me?"
"Well naturally if we're to add kendo to our track and other sports teams we'll be in need of a coach to teach said sport." He completely froze at his words. "But unfortunately we have none."
The world seemed to slow down as the silence continued to stare off at nothing. His throat suddenly felt dry as he swallowed thickly in order to not let his neck to become a desert. "What..are you getting at?"
"Mr. Shinjuro I've heard quite a good deal about you from your wife and others. I'd love to hire you as one of our new sports coaches starting next semester! And have you coach our new established kendo team if that's an option for you."
CLINK. CLI-CLINK.
Ruka blinked as the spoon dropped from her husband's hand and clattered to the table flinging small droplets of miso soup around the oak wood surface. Her brow rose higher at the wide eyed stare he seemed to have. Like he just saw a ghost.
"Honey? Are you ok?"

You are always 100% right and valid btw. Because like buck and Tommy are broken up, but you also have several interviews released today where Ryan calls Buck and Eddie ā€œbrothersā€ and where Oliver explicitly says Eddie is straight so they will most likely continue to be just friends. So if it wasnā€™t for Buddie, what was the point in throwing away a relationship the audience was actually behind??
Yeah, this has always been my problem with the idea of Buck and Tommy breaking up and, now that it's happened, I can finally unload all my thoughts.
Listen, my Buddie mutuals are very assured that Buck and Eddie will get together and have this lush and beautiful arc where they settle into a relationship and feel out the kinks in their dynamic and really blend together, and I respect that. I would love to see that happen. But I don't have that same confidence. Don't get me wrong, I DO think Buck and Eddie will probably get together, I just don't think it's going to happen until the last episode of the last season in a way that's more reminiscent of Johnlock "canon" (for those who did not watch BBC Sherlock: John and Sherlock continued to live together and raise John's daughter, but this was revealed in a montage without ever actually seeing them get together, or confirm that they were in a romantic relationship) than anything.
Why? Well, because it's easier to tease your audience than it is to follow through.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think Tim is teasing the fandom in a malicious way, andā€”if nothing elseā€”I know he is very aware of what these boys and the implication of their relationship means to people. 9-1-1 has always handled their relationship with a particular gravitas, and I don't see that changing now. But Tim has been writing Buck and Eddie for years. He knows what gets people going, he knows what this fandom likes to see, and what they'll read into. So why would he rush into making them "endgame," especially if he knows he already wants to take them in that direction? He has no incentive to make it happen Right Now because everyone will lap up what he puts out anyway.
And I get it, because I do love Buck and Eddie's relationship. I love the way they interact with each other and, yes, I will lap up any scene between them. But that's the part I find so draining too. I'm going to be honest, I've never liked a "will-they-won't-they" couple. As a personal preference, I've always liked to have a clear vision of a story's trajectory when I go into it. That's how I write, and that's what I gravitate toward in fiction. So the idea of going through any number of love interests until Buck and Eddie are "ready for each other" (so sick of that phrase. sob.) is literally... exhausting to me, and not in a fun way. Because this is a loop that could theoretically continue on, and on, and on, until whenever the powers that be decide enough is enough.
Sure, Eddie is happy and free now. Great. But he still doesn't know he's Queer. What happens when he does realize that? Does he need to date a guy first in order to be "ready" for Buck? Similarly (because their romantic arcs always run parallel to each other), when Buck fucks and sucks his way through Los Angeles, does he stumble upon a hot girl/guy and date her/him until Eddie's "ready" for him? How many times, exactly, am I going to sit through another love interest until they're on the same page after, by my count, three false starts? You know?
I'm obviously along for the ride. Always have been, always will be, and I fought too hard over the summer to maintain my love for these boys and their relationship to let it waste away now. But I desperately, desperately need Tim to give me something substantial that CLEARLY, and EXPLICITLY indicates IMMEDIATE strides toward ROMANTIC Buddie Canon. And I mean crystal clear. Not "building a thousand words of meta off a single line/moment" clear. Not "this look probably definitely means Eddie was thinking about ripping Buck's clothes off" clear. I mean, I want it so damn clear, a sixty-five year old grandpa with cataracts can see it.
Otherwise I'm just going to get really annoyed.

Why do you think that Asami has no friends at the beginning? With Korra itā€™s because she grew up in isolation and with Mako and Bolin itā€™s because they were homeless- but why doesnā€™t Asami have any friends? A girl like her shouldā€™ve had a million friends
First of all, bless you, anon. I'd literally opened up a window to talk to some friends about how alone in fandom I feel these days because so many people have moved on or stopped creating and interacting. Then I saw this message! Don't underestimate how motivating it is to get asks about characters and headcanons, or even just to know someone else is interested in your thoughts and wants to talk about mutual interests. You really brightened my day. I hope I can do the same.
As for Asami, I have three theories. The most likely and most boring of these is that it's simply convenience on the part of the writers. In book 1 we didn't see much of her personal life outside of interacting with the Krew so there was no need to waste precious screen time on Asami's other friends. After the show got renewed the writers had to scramble for reasons Asami would still be around - because let's face it, who winds up hanging out with your ex and the girl he left you for as your main friend group? IMO there's zero reason for Asami to be in the show after the first season if she has other friends and sources of support.
A more interesting proposition and the one I mostly go with in my own fics is that Asami did have other friends initially, but that they all abandoned her after her father's arrest. She'd have gone to a fancy private school full of other rich kids with other rich and important parents who'd know that a connection to the daughter of a convicted felon was now social suicide. Suddenly nobody returns her calls, everyone is busy, that invite to Su Li Lim's party happens to go astray, etc. With so many social doors now shut to her, hanging out with the former Fire Ferrets makes more sense. She might even do it initially out of spite in a "well FINE, I'm gonna go be important to the Avatar and go fight crime and be awesome" kind of way.
My last theory is that Hiroshi Sato didn't really let Asami have friends. Acquaintances, sure, but he wouldn't want her growing too close to any dangerous benders and there wasn't an easy way to do this without it being obvious that's what he's doing so he didn't let her grow close to anyone. I think of this as the Victorian novel scenario where Asami is disincentivized from doing kid stuff to "take care of father" and from an early age assumes some of the duties her mom had taken on in terms of household management. She's somehow always too busy for friends. When the class field trip comes around her dad needs her for something important. This might also explain how an 18-year-old thought they were qualified to be CEO of a huge company. She's already managing half the staff at the estate as well as the vendor contracts. How hard could it be?
But what do you think?

I kinda hate the outlook The Mandalorian fandom has gotten on season 3 now that we're about a year and a half out from its release.
There are people who absolutely adored it who are entirely free to feel that way, and there are people who didn't enjoy it and are disappointed by the storyline who are also entirely free to feel that way. For some reason, though, these two sides tend to constantly invalidate one another.
It's entirely possible to still love and adore a story while so many others didn't. And the opposite is true as well. Storytelling is subjective, that's the beauty of it, especially in a case like this where it's not harmful to have different interpretations.
So, if you loved season 3? I'm so glad you did, and I understand why! But that doesn't mean people aren't allowed to express their displeasure with it.
And if you hated season 3? I understand why, and I'm glad you're able to come to terms with it. But that doesn't mean people aren't allowed to love it.
It's complicated. We waited so long for that story, and having such a strong interlude in TBOBF in between really did make things weird, so of course it was going to be quite different from what many of us imagined. That worked for some, and it didn't for others. It doesn't mean we have to be going at each other's throats all the time.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that as a fandom, I really wish we could be better about respecting people's outlooks on this season and the future of The Mandalorian franchise. I sure know my opinion on the season has changed in very confusing ways over the past year and a half, and that's okay.
Please, especially in times like these, be gentle with one another. We don't know how much longer Din Djarin and Grogu's story will be told, and I want us to be able to enjoy this time spent with one another even if we all don't agree on how things have gone.

Well, what does being back feel like?
I've been into SCP back in 2017 when it was thriving, now it has been 7 years since then and I am aware that communities change, not always for the better. I feel nostalgic looking at what was and wish that it would come back even though it's impossible. I am sure many feel the same, looking at the blogs which have been inactive for 2-6 years.
What happened to SCP fandom feels disheartening to me. The site has always been a creative playground with a setting that let people run rampant with ideas, but nowadays this unfortunately has turned into a case of using this freedom for grounds of power gaming. Rather than appreciate the variety of things an SCP could be which was never limited to object, human or animal, many have decided to create as powerful of a Apollyon as they could to pit it into the fight against 001, 073 or 076.
We had SO many creative things in here. We had toasters that made you think you're a toaster, rings which toughened you up for cost of feeling sleepy and fatigued, indestructible lizards, building bears, encyclopedias that gave you diseases, actual viruses, doors to other dimensions, devices that couldn't be explained by engineers, phenomenon and places that were engraved in our minds... why waste such potential? ://
For those who don't know, I am a roleplayer since 2019. It's my hobby which started back on amino, though nowadays I roleplay on discord server. And allow me to tell you that a lot of "SCP" servers have become 1% SCP and 99% multifandom šŸ’€. I don't have anything against multifandom RPs, neither do I have a thing against crossovers, however when an SCP themed server has more multifandom stuff than it does SCP stuff, then my brother that's not an SCP server no more.
I overall dislike that people take SCP's freedom and use it against it. The old fandom feels scarce nowadays. I am genuinely glad that I've experienced this fandom at the time I did, I am also grateful for the people who still come back to it and to youtubers like volgun who don't cease to love it and introduce it to new generations, carrying its legacy. And I'm glad whenever I see people who create genuinely creative SCP OCs.
I guess this rant can be summed up to me disliking SCP "God OCs" and being salty that roblox SCP games are more SCP themed than discord SCP servers lmao
Eitherway I do know there are old school enjoyers out here and I see and appreciate you. I do hope I can make or maybe join an actual SCP discord server in the future because I genuinely crave roleplaying as 035 and roleplaying is like water for me. I drink it, breathe it, love it /J
For now rant is over. Feel free to share your thoughts too and see you guys around <3

What happened to comments on fanfic??
For the past couple of months I've noticed a huge increase in activity on my fics on here, both old and new. I've gained new followers, I see blogs Liking their way through my entire masterlist (thank you for that) and I even get the occasional reblog now (thank you even more for that).
But through all of this boosting activity something has been strangely missing: comments.
Not one single person who read my fics in these past months left a comment. Not one, in a sea of daily Likes. Not even a gif or an emoji, nada. Complete silence.
Is this how we do fanfic now??
I am not a content creator, I don't write for Likes, I am a fellow fan who loves writing and wants to share that with other fans and see their reaction to my silly little stories and ideas. That's why I got hooked on sharing my fics on here.
Atm I'm no longer hooked, and I don't want to sound ungrateful for all those Likes but they do not motivate, encourage or inspire me.
I'm an older generation, I grew up before the Insta/Tik tok mentality took hold. I've read fanfic for over 10 years in different fandoms and I very rarely don't leave a comment when I've loved a fic.
As writers we work hours, days, weeks or months on those stories and share them with you all, for free. Is it not the least you can do when you enjoyed the work to leave a few words? Like, that's basic human decency to me and it takes you less than a minute.
Can we bring this back, please? Before more and more writers decide it's just not worth the effort anymore.

Finally got around to watching ep 11 (Ā“ļ¼›Ļ‰ļ¼›ļ½€)
#I'm late...#I'm sorry I wasn't able to watch the episode by time last week but again. Food poisoning. And then the new chapter came out#I feel like I had much more to say when I started watching it last week...#Mmmmhh. I really like when bsd animation uses the colored lineart effect for flashbacks / subspaces (Anne's Roomā€š Poe's books).#I think it's one of the prettiest and most original things of the bsd animation.#I've always felt like the Natsume reveal was a bit coming out of nowhere lol.#Here's this legendary ability user everyone knows but no one has ever seen with this immensely unthinkable powerful ability...#That the reader literally wasn't ever made aware of in the previous 49 chapters lol#After all that build upā€š his ability even feels a little underwhelming.#Which I suppose was the intended resultā€š but I'm not sure it really works all that well in the end.#Then Naomi's words ā€œCome to think of itā€š the things that happen when Mii-chan vanishes [...]ļæ½ļæ½ disasters are stopped every timeā€#really feel soooo out of place when so-called Mii-chan was never before mentioned up to this episode (ā•„ļ¹ā•„)#But I'll stop complaining. It's nothing big really#Fukuzawa and Mori's relationship is very homoerotic. Tbh#I looooove the ss/kk I don't even have much to say just watching scenes of them interacting together fills my heart of a warm feeling :')#The animation quality is very poor and the drawings are very undetailed but really I love ss/kk too much to care.#A lot of emphasis is put by the fandom on Atsushi's cruel remark towards Akutagawa in this ch/ep and it *is* cruel but really...#Akutagawa had literally just attacked Atsushi in a death-threatening wayā€š futilely and completely unprompted#I can't find it in myself to blame Atsushi if he was irritated and lashed out at him.#And all their other moments are just so cute. What do you mean Akutagawa is deeply interested in understanding Atsushi's motivations.#What do you mean Atsushi can't get Akutagawa out of his mind!!!! They're so cute#So many more cute moments were cut out too rip lawnmower line you'll always be missed rip date line you'll always be missed#I feel like Pushkin's character is another instance ofā€šā€šā€š Wow me and the author's morals really don't align at all#I really don't like the narrative of ā€œweaker people will constantly try to harm and take advantage of strongest onesā€#random rambles#Fun fact when I watched this episode for the first time I asked my mother to join me. Because I know a ss/kk scene was coming and I reallyā€“#didn't want to watch it alone. Well as it turned out the whole first half of the episode was dedicated to old man fightingā€“#and she gave up after that šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ But I'm still grateful to her for trying.

Okay, I lied, I'm not done with the whole "K'Sante can bench press Sett" thing.
Is it phrased that way because they are using Sett relatively to show just how strong K'Sante is? Like, because we already know Sett is this ripped dude, so it's like the equivalent of saying that he's so strong he could literally do reps with Sett.
Or has he ACTUALLY done this?
And, if it's the latter, I demand the context because there are many ways to play this game. Was this a funny challenge between two gym bros, and Sett fully consented to become a human (half human?) barbell?
Or was this something that K'Sante did out of nowhere, unprompted? Maybe it was even in response to a similar challenge to the above, except Sett got all flustered about it because-- I mean, he's big and he's heavy and no one has probably been able to pick him up off the ground since he was a kid--- so he was rightfully a bit taken aback by the fact his band mate can legit lift him repeatedly over his fricken head.
And we haven't even DISCUSSED the flip side where I need to ask if SETT is able to bench press K'Sante, or if K'Sante is actually stronger than Sett.

There is something to be said about the fact that half the time, marginalized characters end up being the "normal" ones in fanon when that is so clearly not the case.
#thinking about all the cases of 'duke is shocked by the batfamily!'#effectively using duke as an outsider pov when he's literally not#or how cass is the Best Girl#also i say marginalized but i really just mean they're not white#oh actually another case of this is dick. he's schrodinger's character of color cause im pretty sure he's roma in like. maybe two runs#and then it was dropped. BUT actually i wont expand further that's for the circus posting#but regardless. the 'golden boy' rep does come a lot from. fanon. there's so many instances of him being the 'father' or blerg. 'mother' of#the group. and literally why. the only character he really has a fatherhood claim to is damian and that's because of the specific situation#stop making the eldest(s) in your ''''found family'''' the parents!!!!!#stop forcing your found family into a nuclear family structure!#anyways back to the point. 'why doesn't damian get this treatment?' 1) i said half the time and 2) racist introduction#damians also interesting because he is drawn so white for a lot of his appearances so he's also a kind of schrodingers white person.#chekov's white person? idk#project for later would be to compare character of colors' introductions and their portrayal in fanon#also admittedly batman is not the best media to analyze this through because there's multiple axes of shittiness#oversexualization racism classism ableism sexism... is tim the only one who comes out unscathed???#anyways the other reason batman kinda sucks for this (as well as dc) is just that a sizable portion of fans like. don't engage with the#source material. i've seen a lot of people say they've only ever touched fic/fanon. which. well. it becomes a feedback loop#ive also been in fandoms i haven't touched the source material for so i'm not juding. but there's a reason i've stopped that#jkb.talk

#really genuinely disheartened by the news about the latest toh ep leaking weeks before it was supposed to premiere#because like i would never watch an episode early when it's not what the creators want. that's a terrible thing to do#but it seems like a lot of other people just do not care#and so instead i have to just sort of. lock myself out of the fandom for a while#which given how few things i have to get excited about these days.... eurgh#i was really excited about the timing of this one; it's right after tlovm comes back and right around the time the semester starts#and i'm sure it'll be fun to watch when it actually comes out but#not the same as the whole fandom being hyped about it#which for the penultimate episode of a show that was cancelled early? sucks#and i hate how many people seem to not care or think it's okay to watch the leaked episode just because other people are doing it#like i don't hang out in fandom tags fortunately (for many good reasons)#but going 'well. guess i have to avoid ao3 or checking out new followers' blogs' and things like that is :/#even the little fanwork discord server i'm in that i usually feel like is a nice space has folks that just... don't seem to care#and i like that space a lot but i'm considering muting it which makes me sad#i just don't get how people could be so disrespectful to the folks creating stories they love. that's awful#idk. guess i'm glad i have other fiction to care about right now#anyways! that's me done being sad about something relatively silly!#but :/

Is there a trope you wouldnā€™t write if it was the last trope on earth?
Alternate Universe. I feel like it's already challenging to keep characters in character as they're presented in media. So not only would I have to come up with some engaging plot to drop some pre-existing characters in, but also try to keep the in character enough to make whoevers reading think "Yeah blank would totally be like this if they were in this type of universe". If they sway too far from their in-universe counterparts , its like might as well create your original story at that point (at least imo) šŸ¤«.
Tell us an idea for a longfic you want to write in the future.
A longfic!??!! You're asking the impossible from me. It's already a challenge writing a decent 4k oneshot šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ and at least when I think of longfics, I think multi-chapter fics and oh gosh, thinking of an overarching plot and spanning it for so many chapters šŸ˜³. No ideas in the near future, at least for me, but I think it would be so fun to try my hand at rewriting a season for a show or movie, which would probably actually help with those prints maybe now that I'm thinking about it. šŸ¤”

am I too late to send anonymous asks? I miss talking to you more but I love having your vibes on my dash - looking forward to watching my stand in and yelling into your dms about it (it's in my plans). also adding another voice to the "thank you for representing in the kinn/vegas sphere, there's not enough of us" crowd, because they're all so right
Definitely not too late, I started feeling shy last night about all the on-demand affection I was getting, but ah. Do you see? DO YOU SEE EVERYONE? Kinn/Vegas brings people together! Maybe Korn was right all along to pit his family members against each other in a brutal lifelong unwinnable competition to bring the larger family/community closer together. It has certainly worked for us here on tumblr dot com!! Thank you Korn!!!! No but thank you for this <3 <3 <3 and I cannnnnn't wait for you to start My Stand-In, I hope hope hope you go feral for it like I have and 100% definitely definitely yell into my dms about it! That's basically why MY dms exist at all!

We (somewhat rightly) mock the 2000's era fansub translation notes for their otaku fixations and privileging of trivia over the media, but they should be understood as serving their purpose for a bit of a different era in the anime fandom. Take this classic:
Tumblr media
Like, its so obvious, right? Just say "pervert", you don't need the note! Which is true, for like a 'normie' audience member who just wants to watch A TV Show - but no one watching, uh *quick google* "Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne" in 1999 is that person. The audience is weebs, and for them the fact that show is Japanese is a huge selling point. They want it to feel as 'anime' as possible; and in the west language was one of the core signifiers of anime-ness. 2004 con-goers calling their friends "-kun" and throwing in "nani?" into conversations was the way this was done, and alongside that a lexicon of western anime fandom terminology was born. Seeing "ecchi" on the screen is, to this person, a better viewing experience - it enhances their connection to otaku identity the show is providing, and reinforces their shared cultural lexicon (Ecchi is now a term one 'expects' anime fans to know - a truth that translator notes like this simultaneously created and reflected).
But of course your audiences have different levels of otaku-dom, and so you can't just say 'ecchi' and call it a day - so for those who are only Level 2 on their anime journey, you give them a translation note. Most of the translation notes of the era are like this - terms the fansubber thought the audience might know well enough that they would understand it and want that pure Japanese cultural experience, but that not all of them would know, so you have to hedge. The Lucky Star one I posted is a great example of that:
Tumblr media
Its Lucky Star, the otaku-crown of anime! You desperately want the core text to preserve as much anime vocab as possible, to give off that feeling, but you can't assume everyone knows what a GALGE is - doing both is the only way to solve that dilemma.
This is often a good guideline when looking at old memetically bad fansubs by the way:
Tumblr media
This isn't real, no fansub had this - it was a meme that was posted on a wiki forum in 2007. Which makes sense, right? "Plan" isn't a Japanese cultural or otaku term, so there is no reason not to translate it, it doesn't deepen the ~otaku connection~.
Which, I know, I'm explaining the joke right now, but over time I think many have grown to believe that this (and others like it) is a real fansub, and that these sort of arbitrary untranslations just peppered fansub works of the time? It happened, sure, but they would be equally mocked back then as missteps - or were jokes themselves. Some groups even had a reputation for inserting jokes into their works, imo Commie Subs was most notable for this; part of the competitive & casual environment of the time. But they weren't serious, they are not examples of "bad fansubs" in the same way.
This all faded for a bunch of reasons - primarily that the market for anime expanded dramatically. First, that lead to professionally released translations by centralized agencies that had universal standards for their subs and accountability to the original creators of the show. Second, the far larger audience is far less invested in anime-as-identity; they like it, but its not special the way its special when you are a bullied internet recluse in 2004. They just want to watch the show, and would find "caring" about translation nuances to be cringe. And since these centralized agencies release their product infinitely faster and more accessibly than fansubs ever did, their copies now dominate the space (including being the versions ripped to all illegal streaming sites), so fansubs died.
Though not totally - a lot of those fansub groups are still around! Commie Subs is still kicking for example. They either do the weird nuance stuff, or fansub unreleased-in-the-west old or niche anime, or even have pivoted to non-anime Japanese content that never gets international release. But they used to be the taste-makers of the community; now they are the fringe devotees in a culture that has moved beyond them. So fansubs remain something of a joke of the 90's and 2000's in the eyes of the anime culture of today, in a way that maybe they don't deserve.

I'm gonna sound very old person yells at cloud but I don't care, I feel like I need to say this. We all (well most of us) know that messaging Neil with any headcanons/theories/wishes/hopes/dreams to do with the show is a no-go because it could potentially compromise the story he wants to tell or ends up telling. And yes, he is a grown up who chooses what to respond to etc and I think it's wonderful he engages with fans and answers a lot of lovely and interesting questions about his process, writing and journey etc.
However, there is another reason not to send theories and ideas about how the show should go to the show creator in the hope of a response: it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter whether a theory is correct, or a speculation may or may not play out. That is why fandom exists.
Online fandom is where we all come together to yell and cry and throw around weird-ass ideas and theories and look at art and read fanfic and unite in our love of characters and a show. A huge part of being in fandom, is the way fandom theories become like an understood little bit of fanon lore that some people attach to, others disregard. But it doesn't matter. And part of the fun of fandom, is when a new season or a new episode of the show comes out, you have this collective catalogue of ideas and theories and headcanons and you get to yell and scream, "omg it happened1" or "lol that that thing was ever talked about" or "thank god that theory didn't come to pass".
Wanting to know now (not that we ever will) and not wanting to wait until the next season to find out the answers diminishes the fandom experience. I cannot stress enough how much we are in the absolute peak of the fandom experience right now. The between seasons time is the ultimate time to be a part of a fandom (as I'm sure many people are well aware), knowing there's another season coming energises everyone to create and connect and speculate and it's glorious! I know it feels like it'll be like this forever, but it won't. Next season is the last and yes, there will be a flurry and uptick of all the energy and excitement once again, and I absolutely believe Good Omens fandom will live on and remain active and thrumming. But there won't be theories and what ifs and hunting for clues for the next season, and over time it will dwindle a little and plateau and some people will fall into other fandoms, and while it will probably bubble away, there won't be the anticipation that sits with us now.
My point is, fandom is where we get to throw around ideas and flail and be ridiculous and also serious sometimes, but it's all for us. For the fans. Showing Neil theories or getting in a flap about a particular speculation and asking if x, y, or z might happen isn't just about putting the creator in an awkward spot, it takes away what fandom is about. Just let this time be ours. If you haven't been in fandom before, enjoy it! Don't be in a hurry to seek definitive answers or know things either way.
It doesn't matter if any or none or all of the things that float around end up being correct or incorrect. Fandom isn't about being right. It's about being a part of a community and being able to share ideas and it's about it being FUN.
So TL;DR Stop sending Neil fan ideas because that is for fandom, not for the creator.
