Toyland (Stephen x FemReader) *Blurb*
Summary: You’ve been good all December long, hoping that your daddy would shower you with all the toys on your wish list. Make it a truly magical and memorable Christmas Eve for you.
Warnings: 18+ (mdni), because there sooo much of the smut. Bit of a dom nerd, fun toys, special ‘playtime’, and… Stephen’s cute, big dick.
Notes: Happy Holidays, lovelies! Welcome to track four of my special holiday mix, Toyland! ❤️💚
- All too familiar feeling tug, pull at the pit of your stomach. Growing stronger and more feverish as you slip that naughty, buzzing device between your soaked folds. Further still until it plunges into, stretches your velvety walls. Excited, elated giggles bubbling and spilling out from around your bright red ball…gag.
- “Like your new toys, angel?” Perched, lounging on the plush couch. Stephen smiles smugly, knowingly over the rim of his coffee mug. “Of course you do.” Watching with keen interest while you wriggle and writhe on the rug, in front of the tree. “My little slut loves it when both her stockings get stuffed extra full.” How you squirm and kick your legs happily when…
- Clicking the tiny remote twice…high-pitched, muffled squeals echo off the living room walls in response. The vibrations in both your greedy holes becoming greater, so powerful that the humming practically rings in your ears. Makes your teeth chatter, brain go a tiny bit dumb. Toes curl ever so slightly.
- “That’s what I like to hear,” he chuckles, hint of condescension in his tone. Taking one last long sip, he sets aside his drink. Leaning forward, looming above you. Free hand winding and encircling his big cock. “Now why don’t you be a good girl.” Pumping it slowly…fat tip an angry red, glistening with snowy beads of pre oozing from the slit. “Show daddy how much you enjoy them.”
- Eagerly you obey, fingers fumbling. Clumsily sinking your plaything in and out of your cunny. Thumb sloppily circling and teasing your throbbing nub. “Go on…” Hips twitching and rocking in time with his steady strokes; your choppy, uneven thrusts. Desperately trying to get it to drive deeper, to kiss and bruise your aching cervix. “Let me see…”
- Another two clicks and your eyes start to roll, vison filling with blinding stars and fading to white. Back arching slightly off the floor, thick thighs trembling. “Come, sweetheart…” From the overwhelming pleasure that shoots up your spine. The effort and strain of your bouncing body, supporting your burdening weight. The intensity of Stephen’s hungry gaze. “Make a nice, big mess…”
- Chest rises and falls frantically. Shallow, deep breaths and pants escape through your nose. Teeth biting into, leaving faint impressions in the ball gag; taste of rubber, along with all those sweets you gobbled up earlier, flooding your mouth. “Maybe then I’ll let you open, use another present…”
- The coil inside you is so tight, the heat stifling. Holes flutter and clench like crazy at the sound of rapid, wet slaps. The symphony of gruff moans, low snarls. “One that I’m sure…” Slick trickles down your plump bottom, dripping onto the pile of strewn pieces of festive wrapping and bows beneath. Mixing and mingling with his juices, to create a jolly cocktail. “My babe will love even better…”
- Yet again he clicks twice. Causing you to scream and cry quietly in joy all because… You're spending a truly magical and memorable Christmas Eve. Exactly how you wanted… Spoiled rotten by your dotting daddy… Surrounded, dwelling in your own personal Toyland…

—Christmas 🎄 Morning | Marvel x OC Blurb 🎁
Pairings: Liane x Ethan, Cole x Jeremy, Mia x Nikolai
Children: Astrid, Bella & Joshua
Grandparents: Erik, Charles and May
~~~~~~
Summary: Like the title says, it’s Christmas!
~~
Sounds of cars across the street, snow was rolling down the road and people were walking around the neighborhood in glee. But inside the household held asleep bodies of each other in their rooms, along with the kiddos all asleep in one giant bedroom.
It was a peaceful morning—
Well…
That was until the kiddos woke up.
Joshua’s eyes shot open smiling, “It’s the day…”
“The most significant day of the year..” Astrid yawned smiling softly.
“It’s Christmas!” Bella added rubbing her eyes gently grinning mischievously, “Wanna head downstairs?”
Astrid and Joshua exchanged a glance between smiling at Bella, before racing downstairs with her. One after another, dressed in red, green and blue rushed the trio down the steps quietly. Bella hushed them, making sure not to wake up their parents, aunts or even uncles.
In the living room stood the glamorous Christmas tree that was decorated to the very last touch. It was a rainbow of color Christmas lights, along with rows of bright white ones to balance it. And you couldn’t forget the plenty of wonderful ornaments that hung around with care. It was an absolute sight to see.
Underneath the tree was a vast variety of presents small, medium and large to choose from. Santa came in clutch this year! They were surprised Santa Claus gifted the family so much, especially after trying to ship themselves to the freaking North Pole and trying to catch him all in one week! But it was a big deal nonetheless.
Without a single second to spare, the trio went on to start opening up their presents. All getting toys like stuffed animals, video games, dolls, action figures, play sets, books and cards. However before they could continue to open up their lovely gifts, a voice was heard.
“Good morning, kids!”
The trio screamed and gasped in disbelief, surprised to hear the words this time of the day. They turned their attention to the voice in the doorway who screamed at their timed shouting—Ethan. In pure shock and surprise, the tray of breakfast he was carrying went flying above his head along with the food.
One by one things went falling as they dropped upon Ethan’s head. The metal tray slammed onto the top of his head before sliding off to the ground, then the bagels, and multiple pancakes went falling on him. Oh! Can’t forget the bacon too.
“Watch out, dad…” Bella said wincing at the sight.
Astrid grunted at the scene, “Oof…”
“Someone get the first aid kit..” Joshua added, hissing at the fallen breakfast.
And if that wasn’t enough, the fried eggs fell apart and onto Ethan’s curls. The man stood there frozen in shock, wincing and growling biting his inner cheek. It was rare for Ethan Lensherr to get upset but seeing the heat particularly rise across his face to the tippy top of his head, practically overcooking the fried eggs, it was almost comedic. Straight out of a cartoon.
He was sure, he had a mild concussion.
But seeing the children’s little faces that held a mixture of shock, shyness, embarrassment and disbelief, it was evident they were sorry. Heck, it was enough to make Ethan deflate like a balloon and let a small hint of blush rise to his cheeks.
“Aw, it’s Christmas..” He said chuckling awkwardly, rubbing his temple feeling like he needed to lay down a bit. “Uh, somebody get your mother…”
+++
Ethan was laying on the couch as Liane nursed an ice pack over his head. She heard Cole’s buzzing laughter watching the footage of what happened earlier to his brother as she sent him a glare. Nikolai was cleaning the mess up as he kept an eye on the kids, meanwhile Mia and Jeremy were making breakfast once again for everyone.
“Joshua, Bella, Astrid, what were three thinking?” Nikolai asked nicely as he kept cleaning.
Bella shrugged, “That it’s Christmas duh, uncle Nik, everybody knows what you gotta do..”
“And that there would be plenty of amazing presents to be open..” Astrid continued softly.
Joshua finished off, “Besides, none of the adults were awake, so why not get a head start?”
“Eh, I see stars..” Ethan said, being dramatic at this point.
Liane chuckled, “That’s the star on the tree, honey.”
“Ooh…I knew that!”
“Hehe, even on Christmas morning you’re a silly guy.”
“I forgot to give you a morning dose of my love.”
“Allow me, sir.”
She leaned down to press a soft kiss to his lips as he kissed her back in full force, feeling much better. You could heard the kids making comments and looking away at the couple off affection in front of them.
Nikolai chuckled then looked at the kids, “Just be careful next time, okay? We need to all make it to New Years.”
In response the kids nodded, still in their pjs and went off to play with their new stuff. Nikolai rolled his eyes, then headed to the kitchen to get some more napkins when the smell of fresh pancakes hit his nose and he was in heaven. He wrapped his arms around his wife purring, before stealing a strip of bacon off the plate beside her.
“Hey!” Mia remarked chuckling flipping the pancake, trying to slap his hand away from the plate, but failed. “You can’t wait?”
“I’m a growing boy, love.” Nikolai replied cheekily and pulled her tighter kissing her temple, “Mhmm, I wrapped a few extra presents for later.”
“A few extra presents? What do you mean?”
“Oh, nothing crazy. Just a few ticket for a tropical vacation and other things.”
Her eyes widen seeing his bright smirk and blushed, as she whispered yelled, “Vacation?!”
“Shh, not too loud!” He whispered back snickering loudly, but he couldn’t hold back his own excitement either. “But yeah, among other things. Maybe we can get started on planning it together?”
“After the holiday season, of course, right?”
“Oh absolutely! I ain’t that crazy.”
“Nikolai.”
“You married me, remember? I ain’t normal!”
On the other side of the kitchen, Cole stood in the doorway practically eyeing Jeremy down, undressing him with his eyes. He looked like a cartoon character from Tom & Jerry or something. Jeremy raised an eyebrow and chuckled as he made breakfast. He just finished with the bagels, now he was currently cooking the eggs for everyone.
“Are you gonna keep undressing me with your eyes or you gonna help me?” Jeremy teased him.
Cole smirked, “Nah, you look good amazing doing it by yourself.”
“I made sausage earlier, if you want some.”
“No thank you darling, I‘ll have some later after breakfast.”
“But I’m not making…Cole!”
Cole couldn’t help but laugh as he threw that comment in there, he loved when he could mess around with Jeremy. Yes, of course, he was usually the ultimate boss and more responsible one, but if Cole could tip the scales to throw him off his game, it made his day.
However Jeremy smirked, “Oh your father texted me, he said he was coming over earlier today.”
“What?!” Cole exclaimed as his smirked less slightly. “First off, you texted my father and secondly, when?!”
“Yeah, we text. Well, more like Charles texted me about Erik coming over instead of both of them, as he’s staying with Raven, Rochelle and the others today.”
“Ah, shit, I gotta get Astrid ready!”
“What for? He sees his grandchildren every few months, he’s not gonna care if they’re in still in pjs.”
“You don’t bloody know that!”
++++
++++++
Afterwards, the children were forced to change out of their pjs and into actual clothing for the day—thanks to Cole and Liane—however it wasn’t so bad, because they were given a surprise gift, being sleds. Each one in particular colors to tell them apart.
Poor Liane she was almost shoved to the side and attacked by the children as a thank you. But she was more than happy to see their joyful expressions, but glared at Cole who was laughing at her.
It was smooth sailing for there on out, until Bella opened the front door to lead Joshua and Astrid out of the house, to be surprised by their grandparents. May and Erik, minus Charles who was at the other house.
“Grandma! Grandpa!” Yelled the children in glee, rushing to hug May first.
May chuckled, hugging them tightly pressing a kiss to the top of their heads, as she said, “Merry Christmas, my angels! I missed you all so much. Oh! I brought cookies!”
Mia was about to yell from the sidelines about no cookies until after lunch but was cut off by the kids who yelled in pure excitement, and most importantly, her husband. If there one thing that Nikolai, and the others couldn’t resist was Aunt May’s cookies. Even Liane enjoyed the taste of those cookies, especially during the holiday season.
Liane happily took May’s coat as the older woman greeted all the other adults in hugs and warm applause. Mia hugged her mother and took the bowl of delicious cookies out of her hands to be placed in the kitchen, which resulted in the kids shouting how they wanted to try some.
“Hey! What about me?” Erik said suddenly with his arms open, and soon enough received the same amount of attention from the children. However this time, they tackled him to the ground as he laughed hugging them. “Oof! That’s more like it.”
Ethan was laying on the couch watching with a soft smile waving at them.
Cole chuckled lightly, a bit smug seeing the sight as he said, “Hey dad.”
Erik was now sitting on the floor with the children surrounded. He took a moment to see the kids in regular clothes and not pjs, before raising an eyebrow, “Why are they dressed like they’re going to a holiday party?”
With that Cole rolled his eyes as Jeremy snickered mumbling a soft, “Told you so.”
[a memory that may or may not have happened...
He's crying.
He has been walking for so long, and nothing has changed. The rain falls about him like an envelope, the night is as thick and black as burnt treacle, and he is crying like the small, lost child he is.
His panicked flight earlier seems as distant a memory as the petting farm his father had taken him to for his fifth birthday. His brother had been too afraid to feed the Wooloo, but he himself had climbed right into their pen and laughed and laughed as they knocked him over with their eagerness.
If his brother were here, they would show him the way home.
Every step takes more effort than the one before, and gets him nowhere.
It had been the subject of much playground mirth every time a tourist lost a few hours or their way or some vital belonging in the forest. The Ballonlea youngsters, overconfident in the customs passed down to them from their elders and the natural arrogance of youth, saw these failures as evidence of irrideemable stupidity. Most of them had lost something among the trees before, but this mattered very little to their comfortable superiority; they had not been a tourist about it, after all.
He had lost his way far less often than most, and therefore laughed hardest of all.
His face burns, his throat rasps, but the crying doesn't stop.
It seems like a second eternity later that his stumbling, shuffling progress is abruptly halted by the spiny grasp of a bramble around his ankle. The pain is sharp enough to break through the dulling pall of misery that shrouds him, and he rocks to a halt to bend, stiff and aching, and pull it free.
When he straightens, he sees water.
There were a few ponds in the forest, of varying sizes, fed by brooks and streams whose running water could be very useful to those who knew how to use it. He'd played around most of them, swum in the scarce one or two big enough to make it worth the effort.
But this...
A perfect plane of reflective darkness, stretching on and on away in every direction until his vision blurs it into nothing. Only the briefest of ripples touch the glasslike surface, shivers of silver ruled by no breeze or current, disturbing only for a moment the flawless imitation of the sky that lies beneath. It is not raining here, somehow.
And the moon hangs there, just below him, a mere few paces from the shore. A full moon, so huge and close and round that he almost- almost- steps forward, reaches out, tries to touch.
He gapes, and feels for a moment exactly what he is: an awkward human adolescent, the corporeal horrors of puberty barely shaken off, the binding shackles of physicality evident in the snot and tears and sweat and blood that cake him.
And a hungry yearning, a void he barely knew was there, rises up in his throat and chokes him. He should not be this. He should be something else.
Something wet laps at the toes of his sandals, cold enough to sting. Blessedly cold, and so, so fresh.
He hesitates, raises the heel of one foot from the ground, rocks on the other. He could be... something else.
Something else.
The roar of the branches above him is the clashing of swords and shields and he starts in sudden terror, swaying, the tips of his fingers dipping below the freezing surface. The ersatz moon vanishes, obscured by foam as he thrashes back to the shore, chased by the rising wind. Regaining solid ground, he turns, the fear whipped into something like exhilaration just as the lake is whipped into a frenzy of whitecaps.
Something is coming, running with the gale across the very top of the water, nothing but a darker shape amidst the shadows of the clouds that race above it. He pins his back against the solid bulk of the tree behind him and lets out a sound that is part a wail, part a scream, part a howl, all desperation, raw and ragged from a shredded throat.
And the thing rushes past him, something massive and crested, trailed by- tails? ribbons?- that spin and dance in its wake, and the sound he's emitting ramps up to a shriek that could shatter windows.
And then it's gone.
He turns again to see where and finds instead that it has left a trail, barely noticeable, a few bent fronds and tattered leaves, but a trail nonetheless. And without a thought, without even the hunger that had sprung up before to drive him, he pushes himself forward and follows it.
He does not see the thing again. By the time he reaches a place he recognises, he has all but forgotten it. Later, his father tells him almost nobody is found after two months lost in the Tangle. They gave you up for dead, his father tells him, his father thinner and with eyes so fever-bright, his father who finds every excuse to touch him for so many months afterwards. But I didn't. I couldn't. I couldn't. You're my son.]
boarding: the floor plans
so um... hi folks! if you're here, you've probably been reading my skz fanfic boarding over on ao3. some of y'all have been asking to see my floor plans that i've made for the story. this is me, obliging. hope you enjoy :)
introduction and vibes
i'm planning to upload some edits to the earlier chapters within the next month or so to give a bit more of an image of what i imagine the space to look like, now that i actually have it. in the beginning, i was really just putting scotch tape over the world-building in order to get to the character interactions. for now, here's the edited version of the initial description of the school:
"In the distance, the sparse forest through which they’re driving melts smoothly into a series of rolling hills. With how early it is, the hilltops still catch a hint of morning reds and pinks from the lazy sunrise. The car rounds one last bend in the road, and Felix’ breath catches in his throat. The ground slopes gently upwards for a few hundred yards, and at the peak of that hill stands an ancient estate, cloaked in brickwork and ivy, rising up out of the landscape with impossible grace. It is majestic, and dignified, and makes his heart sink in his chest with a pain like simmering water." (Intro Pt. I)
i can't actually draw, in fact i can barely sketch, so u will just have to use ur imagination on that. but keep it in mind for overall vibes.
the school grounds
this is the worst of these sketches, and i apologise, but this is generally how i imagine the layout of the school. that big thing in the front is the mains, then the courtyard, and the three houses: yang, park, lee. the line around it is a sort of brick-wall fence, old-looking and worn. it's all surrounded by forest that gets thicker the further u venture away from the school, but light enough to allow for hyunjin to catch glimpses of the sun reflecting off the lake on a good day. here is part of the updated description:
"Changbin directs them outside by way of the back door, which leads out to a large manicured courtyard bisected by cobbled walkways; it’s structured a little like a park, complete with benches clustered around trees and small sectioned-off parts clearly set up for games. It’s about a five-minute walk through the courtyard to the dorm buildings, though that’s with the added weight of the suitcase. Felix tries his hardest to memorise where he needs to go — the school grounds certainly seem large enough to get lost in at some point." (Intro Pt. I)
the distance between the houses and the football field is way larger than it appears here; unfortunately, i only had so much paper to work with, and i wasn't gonna start again at this point. it's definitely a five to ten minute walk from the field gate - u can see it in the gap in the fence - to the football field. the path to it slopes vaguely downward. the building next to the football field is the auditorium where choir practice happens, and sometimes assemblies. (we'll get to that in the story eventually, i promise.) also there's changing rooms for when there's football matches.
the mains
this is how i imagine the layout of the main building. the cellar is on a separate page because i make bad choices in life. "T.H." stands for teacher housing. anything with diagonal lines across it is storage of some sort. the grey-shaded thing on the second floor is a bit of roof - for architectural interest, u feel? i play a lot of sims.
the dorm houses
this is how i imagine the layout of the three houses - or, at least, park house. (btw has anyone figured out why i named the houses the way i did? it made me feel really smart when i came up with it.) more on the single dorms later. the stuff in dotted lines is, like, stuff that exists on one floor but not on others - like, the ground floor has those wing things to the sides, but there's no equivalent above or below, it's just roof. hope that makes sense.
the dorm rooms
and finally, this is the layout of the dorm in my head. yes, it's pretty small, but consider this: stuck-up private schools don't care about the rights of children. for this one, i actually tried to work with some realistic measurements, but like, take it with a grain of salt, y'all, i'm an english literature major. as to who's in which room, peek at the top of the page. updated description:
"(The door) opens into a small common room populated by an assortment of worn-looking furniture: a closed wooden storage cupboard in the corner, a mostly-empty bookshelf leaning against the wall, two sofas with a wild assortment of pillows on them placed haphazardly around a chipped coffee table." (Intro Pt. I)
fin
so that's that! i've put a lot of thought into this space, and i think at this point i've got it down pretty well. of course, these are all just what i have in mind myself - if it doesn't fit with your vision of the story, that's cool! keep picturing that! we love anarchy here.
feel free to let me know your thoughts on the floor plans, the story, anything at all! i am really happy to talk to y'all, and answering tumblr asks make me way less anxious than replying to ao3 comments lol. have a lovely day, and i'll see you for the next chapter!
-pia
ps: i took the leap out of my comfort zone and put this on my personal skz tumblr, instead of one specifically created for the purpose of sharing ao3 things. that's big for me. be nice.
pps: if you know me in real life, and you want to tell me that my writing is cringy: don't! it will make me sad. so mind your business.
ppps: if anyone steals/reposts this, i will hunt them down and make them eat a ten-pack of tissue paper. do not test me.
Eyes In The Dark
Nooooo idea if I did that right, first time I ever posted anything for @silmarillionwritersguild but here goes... Prompt-Arda is filled with "brownies, fays, pixies, leprawns, and what else are they not called, for their number is very great-“ Atar! Atar, wake up!” Denethor shook his sleeping father frantically, not daring to look either left or right, scared that the eyes would again gleam in darkness, looking at him out of the shadowy branches of the tall trees that grew by the banks of the great river. Earlier that day, his mother and uncles had left the camp to hunt, and whilst they had let Denethor follow them for a while, teaching him a little along the way, they had sent him back to his father once the hunt truly gathered momentum. So he had returned to his father, only to find him fast asleep. Aware that he was not allowed to wake others unless there was an emergency, he had taken to throwing pebbles into the river, then gathered sticks and pieces of bark, and observed which was carried to greater speeds by the current. That game never failed to keep him entertained, though there was a downside to it: once one ran out of boats, one had to leave the riverbank to search for more. It had been on one of those forays that he had seen the eyes, malicious, green eyes, gleaming at him. BIG eyes. And many. And then the rustling had started, moving in ripples through the leaves as if caused by a high wind, though the air itself was still. Denethor had been sure that this was some kind of fell monster, probably one of the ancient Shadows the grown-ups still talked about in hushed voices, and he was equally sure that it would come for him if stayed in this spot for just another moment. Without making a sound, he ran back to the camp, his eyes fixed only on the ground before him, terrified that if he would dare to turn around, he would see the monster right above him, in its full terrible heinousness. As much as he had tried to avoid it, his imagination had taken off with him, and he saw himself running up the sloping riverbank, dodging the close-growing trees like a small rabbit that fled a hungry predator, and above his slight form, he saw the monstrous worm make its way swiftly through the treetops like a vast, elongated spider, with many hairy legs and those fearsome green eyes, sitting in pairs upon its fell head, right above the maw of long, pointed teeth. On and on it went, so that even from his bird-eyes-view, Denethor could not make out the end of its tail. He had started to sob, terrified, wrenching himself away from that image, reminding himself that this was only in his head, that he had, after all, no proof of the monster being there. He could slow down, and look up, and maybe there would be nothing but the starry skies above him. But in the end, he had not dared, and after all, who said that the monster could not hide itself swiftly, or, even worse, make itself invisible? He could no longer hold back his tears as Lenwë awoke with a start now, drawing his hunting knife, gathering Denethor in his arms and rising swiftly from his camp all in one fluid movement. “What is it? Denethor, what happened?” his father’s voice was low and hoarse with trepidation. “The monster. The m…monster is… coming for us!” Lenwë moved silently and carefully like a lynx, while Denethor, with his head pressed against his father’s chest, could hear his heart pounding frantically. Yet with every careful step his father took, he seemed to become calmer, until he finally lowered Denethor to the ground, crouching down with him. “There’s nothing there, Denethor. Look. All is clear and calm.” Only then did Denethor dare to raise his eyes, first to Lenwë’s face, then, as he truly saw nothing but pity in his father’s blue eyes, to the treetops above. There was nothing there, nothing but branches and leaves and above them the star-strewn sky. “Can you tell me what you saw?” Denethor nodded and told his father of the huge green eyes in the branches and the rustling, and of the creature that had formed in his head. When he had finished, he again chanced a look at his father, and saw that he was clearly fighting down a smile. “Ah, a fell monster that is indeed, my son. We’ll have to do something about it. See here!” And he swooped Denethor again into his arms and rose with him. “We tell the monster ‘Behold, fell beast, here stands Denethor the Valiant, son of Lenwë, who dwelled already by the shores of Awakening and who knows no fear of the likes of you, and you shall not pass me, nor dare to harm me or my kin!’” Then, suddenly, his father lowered his voice, whispering in Denethor’s ear: “Ai Valar, now it is enraged! See how it bares its many sharp teeth and glares at us with those dreadful eyes? Alas, now it lowers its hideous body to the ground on its long hairy legs…” Denethor whimpered, the picture in his mind’s eye so vivid that he was convinced that he was really seeing the monster.“But fear not!” his father went on, swooping to pick up a long stick. “Now meet your doom, creature of the shadows, as Quendi are hardy and no fitting dinner for any beast!” he called to the night, brandishing his stick, and then added to Denethor: “Ha, there goes. It should have listened! Now we poked it in the eye! ’Look at you now. You don’t look terrifying at all anymore with your eye watering and bloodshot and half closed. Begone now!” Lenwë stood motionless for a moment, then looked triumphantly at Denethor, laughing. “There it goes now, weeping and afraid. Do you hear it? Saying ‘Alas, before such mighty a warrior, I must flee!’?That one shall not bother us again! We shall hold a great feast in honour of Denethor, who defended his people against so horrifying an enemy!” Now Denethor was laughing too, and together, they returned to their camp. “You are making fun of me, Attu!” Denethor said, once they sat down. Lenwë only smiled and pulled him closer. “No, I am not. I do not doubt that you saw something! I only think that the monster might have been bigger and fouler in your fearful imagination. But now you know how to deal with such beings, if ever you happen to encounter them again!” “But what is it I saw, then?” Denethor asked, again feeling worried. His father looked absent-mindedly into the distance.“ Arda is filled with brownies, fays, pixies, leprawns, and what else are they not called, for their number is very great. Small creatures that live here with us, neither animals nor Quendi.” Denethor gaped at his father. “H..have you ever… seen them?” Lenwë shrugged. “Some of them. Some live in the trees, and they are, by the way, most likely akin to those that so frightened you. Others live in the water of the river, one might mistake them for fish if one doesn’t look carefully, and I am sure there are many, many more.” “Are they good or evil, Attu?” Again, Lenwë took his time to answer Denethor. “Some are evil. Remnants of the great Shadow that hunted the woods surrounding Cuiviénen, servants of those Lord Oromë has named Melkor…”Denethor felt a shiver run down his spine at the mention of the name alone. “But the legend says he’s been thrown down. You told me that…” “You are right!” his father interrupted him, not unkindly. “That’s what was told to us, that Melkor was overthrown by the Valar. But still the foulest of his servants carried on, on their own account, and amongst those servants must have been some of those little peoples as well. Others, that are no less mean, are so of their own account, without being subject to the Shadow. Many are good, though, and do nothing more threatening then tease us good-naturedly sometimes. But really, most of them are neither good nor evil but mind their own business, wanting to be left well alone by us.” Silence fell between them, and Denethor felt the relief settle over him, and with relief came sleepiness. “How do I know whether they are of a good or an evil kind?” he asked in a thick voice, needing an answer to that question before sleep overwhelmed him. His father hoisted him more securely onto his lap, cradling him slightly. “Ask your heart, Denethor. Feel the darkness. Does it seem menacing to you?” he answered lowly. Denethor shook his head.“Then you have nothing to fear. Now sleep. Likely, your mother will be home with a nice supply of food once you wake.” “Will you stay with me?” Denethor asked in a very small voice, eyes already firmly shut. He felt rather than heard his fathers chuckle. “Of course I will, Denethor the Valiant!”
Dreamt about My World
I just woke from a dream about one of my worlds that felt so real, it was like I actually visited it. Without a doubt, it was the Magdalea from The Other Side of Myth, and the dream was so vivid that I can say most of it took place in the Summer Seas region.
Interestingly, it started in a scenario that couldn’t really happen, with the main party (Kiara, Danson, Keigo, and Diana) investigating a school that was being covered in steel plating. There was this amusing moment where the principal was talking to the authorities, and the group slipped inside—then Diana immediately broke off to explore. Her path took her to the other side of a home ec room window, where Kiara had started cooking. The two had fun with Diana pointing at stuff for Kiara to add. Then, for whatever reason, we switched over to the Summer Seas, where things started getting exciting.
Before I get into that, though, it strikes me that it probably wasn’t Kiara and Diana in the earlier part. Considering the uniforms they wore, their clear familiarity with the school, and the way they sneaked in (instead of barging in, like the main party would), these two were probably students of a wizard school in South Harlain. It’s close enough to the Summer Seas for a multicultural cast, but without the danger the main cast faces on the regular.
ANYWAY, THE MAIN EVENT!
That’s what makes me certain it’s the Summer Seas—the sheer scale of it, all the different lifestyles showing up, and some of the features among the visitors, like Afro hair that turned from black to green (a feature of the tree sages). There was a big sporting event in Ruhanga that hadn’t happened in recent years but was regular before 18 years ago. It was an event where the elementalist Dumabi people celebrated their unity with an obstacle course that tested magic prowess and dexterity.
In the dream, this event was packed—as it would be. People from all over the southern nations, summer islands, Summer Seas, and Dark Seas showed up to watch it. There was so much to do: you could be in the seats watching the game, walking around getting food, or seeing the event on liquid screens posted up throughout the stadium. There was even a noticeable class divide, with nobility intermingling with common folk but without much camaraderie.
The meat of the dream ended up being this clash between one noblewoman and a powerful mage. While he was talking to his entourage, she had the audacity to use his scarf to clean up ice cream that spilled on her. He insulted her, and she called the authorities to address him for “speaking above his station.”
Trying to avoid a confrontation, the mage and his entourage walked away while he used a spell to clean his scarf. One of the authorities questioned him, but with the cleaned evidence and the fact that it wasn’t really a big deal, he was let go—much to the noblewoman’s anger. This escalated into a full-blown conflict, with the noblewoman specifically targeting the guard for “failing his job.” Meanwhile, the mage continued exploring the event and showing his group all the things you could do at the stadium, like visiting the lower levels to find a bar.
Tensions kept rising until halftime, when it was revealed that the mage had performed the halftime show.
Several of my favorite moments happened here.
One was this fourth-wall-like break, where the mage was both on the field and with his friends in the bar, watching the show. He was shocked by how good it turned out, then said something like, “Why am I surprised? I wrote it!” The performance itself was pretty much a “fuck them nobles” type of show, and you can imagine the nobles weren’t particularly happy—especially not with the noblewoman spreading word of her encounter with the mage.
Using her station, she addressed the bar and threatened the guard’s life and family. The mage declared,
“If she sends anyone after you, I will personally return their heads to her. And if she continues after that, I will put a curse so profound on her family that the Ancients will put me on trial when I pass.”
Out on the field, halftime wrapped up with the mage offering words of encouragement to the people. While his group started talking about what was going on, I began to wake up—because the obstacle course had clearly become football, and I (as the mage) just sort of poofed out of the arena.
Still, that dream was good and lively. It’s been a bit since I’ve dreamed about one of my worlds.
Words cannot truly set the scene of how horrifying Doe's feeding process is to bear witness to, if you're even able and have the mental/cognitive abilities to bear witness to it in the process, that is.
The clock strikes 2 in the morning, and you wake up groggily in the dim but still well-lit observation room, divided by a fabric partition. The air is stagnant and smells sterile around you; the white surroundings, while off-putting in their own right, are what you'd fallen asleep to, and in your ear, you can hear distantly the sound of the clock, ticking away and monitors beeping in the silence. But that's all there is. You could reason, of course, that even a big hospital would be quiet at this hour; people like you are supposed to be sleeping, but something's not quite right, and you can feel it like the bristling hairs on the back of your neck.
The silence is too… all-consuming; it's almost a vacuum, and there's this pressure on your body you didn't realize was there until you'd found the nerve to try and sit up. Your muscles are like rubber; hell, your bones feel that way to an extent; trying to stand up is like fighting your body and gravity at once, and you lose… hard. You drop to the ground, your head meeting the tiles with an audible crunch. You start crying then, screaming out for help; not your finest moment, but sharp pain does something to a person. Only you get no response, that vacuum silence growing deeper, darker. No one's coming; it's like the saying if a tree falls in the forest and no one hears, does it make a sound? Where is everybody? Your head is throbbing, and you're using the equipment around you like a guide as you try to get up. It's easier this time; you have no idea why, though.
You make your way out into the hallway, and nothing's wrong. Nothing's askew, and the lights flick on when they sense your movement going down the hall, but it's still vacant. You decide to find the nurse's station, that'd be the best bet for help, and to complain if you see them on their phones. You're joking about that last part, but you have to; all this feels like the opening to a zombie apocalypse film. You're waiting to see a mysterious blood trail or a person eating another person in the middle of the hall, but it never happens. Instead, it's more of the same: nothing out of the ordinary, but no noises, no stirring, and no sounds of life anywhere. Are… are the nurses asleep too? You almost hope it's the case.
Turning into the nurse's station, you immediately see a person sitting up, with an open bag of chips to their side, seemingly typing at the computer, and your joy is unimaginable. Person!! Humanity!! Your situation isn't some dogshit horror movie; it's normal, a bunch of misunderstandings fueled with hospital anxiety, and they're probably just enraptured in Zillow ads or something not to notice the bed alarms! But when you move closer, you see she's sitting but almost frozen. You have no way to describe it. Her fingers are inches above the E key, her hand clasping a snack and moving towards her mouth, but she seems to have stopped for some reason. You announce your presence and ask her for help, but nothing; you try to tap her shoulder, but nothing; you try to shake her. Her eyes are glazed over and staring into the abyss. You'd think she was dead, but her chest is rising and falling lightly. Worry turns to panic then; you look over her shoulder at what she was typing, a report dated 2 hours earlier.
Your heart drops when you see everything in your veins turning to ice. You stumble backwards into the hallway, and your feet find their stride before your mind can even catch up. Now you're running, panicking through the hospital, looking for anyone else or anything to see another person alive and not in this spell that seemingly had that nurse frozen, but person after person you find, they're all the same. Frozen is mid-action, not a thought or understanding behind their eyes, breathing but dead to the world in every other way. It feels like an eternity when you FINALLY hear something beyond your quiet, panicked sobbing, the tick of the clock and the beeps of monitors. Laughing, joyful banter and something wet, usually that alone would be your cue to stay away, far, far away. But you don't care, you're terrified, you need help, now! But more than that, you need more than anything not to be alone.
Sprinting down the hall and nearly body-slamming the door open, you're greeted gleefully by an older woman looking at you. She seems oblivious to your distress; in fact, she seems delighted despite her surroundings! Though such an emotion seems wrong, she's so pale and ghostly, skin shrunken at her bones, and her vivid green eyes sparkling with glee, the only thing that remains lively.
" Oh, good evening! Didn't think I'd be getting another visitor! It's really my night, isn't it? Haha! " You're blubbering over your words, not a single sentence coming to your mouth when the lady raises her hand, almost to try and comfort you, that much you can tell; she seems to have at least anticipated your shock, but not in any way that seems appropriate to the circumstance.
" Don't worry, this is my daughter, Sarah; there was a misunderstanding- she's been over in Boone County. The police dropped the ball, but she's finally home! We've just been catching up! Sarah meet— oh god, I'm sorry, I'm getting up there in age. I think I've forgotten your name, "
Moving her hand to gesture to her 'daughter,' your eyes finally flick from her ghostly, deathly visage to the scene of horror to her side. Blood, so so much, covering the thin, shitty cotton sheets, pouring from her arms, god, the sight makes you want to vomit. How is she not screaming in pain? Your arms ache at the sight alone, but that pain compares nothing to the panic that freezes your heart when you see her 'daughter,'
She doesn't seem human, let alone not related to the older woman in the slightest. Sharp features and slitted eyes the colour of hellfire, freezing you on the spot. You will your body to move, but nothing in you is responding; your panic grows, peaking when you realize the numb, powerless feeling is spreading upwards, and as soon enough, you can't even let your mouth open. Eyes flicking around, looking for anything, trying to send a message to the older woman. Her 'daughter' speaks, at first, down to the older woman, and the response is instantaneous. Like she's cut the strings of a marionette and dropped to the ground. Exhaustion forces the glint from her green eyes, and her head rolls at an odd angle back onto the pillow behind her and into one of many puddles of her fluids. You know she's dead then, but any terror at her sudden demise is cut short as her 'daughter' rounds the bed, now speaking directly at you. You can't understand her. The sound that leaves her mouth is just as inhuman as her appearance, like the call of bats in the night sky. Yet despite that, she is decidedly furious.
LIKE THE ONLY POSITIVE HERE IS DOE'S METHOD OF FOOD COLLECTION IS ABNORMAL WITH THE REST OF THE BELLES, they tend to take a Lost Boys approach in just jumping people or a traditional vampire approach of inviting people to their home and eating them there. Doe though, GODDDD, she's so fucked up, I hate her!! (i love her)
When it comes to Vamp!Doe, I’d argue she’s frankly worse than the random violence eating of other vampires or even the seducing people back to their lair before tearing them apart in the way the boys do. Doe, instead, feeds EXCLUSIVELY out of hospitals. She’s sort of a reference to classic New England vampires in the sense that she’s the pale death sweeping through the sick and the injured and snuffing out their light in a second, even when they seemed like they were getting better.
And I hear you asking, how does Doe get away with this? Vampiric suggestion and mind control, mainly! in addition with her appearance lending to a very innocent/inconspicuous sort of look. Not that any of the workers are free enough of the zombie-like thrall state to even notice or stop her in the progression through the halls finding who she’ll strike for the night and getting friendly with the ones she plans to eat in future. (The hospital staff have come to interpret that when patients speak of seeing the well-dressed woman that it’s sort of a near-death ghost, when that’s far from the circumstance)
Doe is just, she’s an extra sort of fucked up and feeding from hospitals serves as a mental gymnastics to justify the cost that her existence demands on the weekly. (I.e people die in hospitals ALL THE TIME! A lot of them are horrifically suffering! I’m preventing more suffering/speeding up the process/making sure they die while calm and happy and unaware. I’m not evil! (She actually is) )
Previous Chapter | Series masterlist & info
Notes: hello i hope u enjoy ♥ as always the title is from taylor swift's 'daylight'
there are so many lines that i've crossed unforgiven
At sundown, Mando suggests making camp for some food and rest. You agree, knowing that the dawn will come earlier tomorrow as summer approaches, and you need to make the most of the daylight.
This planet is safe, but travelling in the dark is no fun. Especially through the forest. It might provide cover from any prowling animals or stalking birds, but there’s also a lot of things to trip on, a lot of stinging lizards to accidentally piss off if you don’t see them underfoot.
It’s safer to be still.
Besides, you’ve come out here hiking and camping before. It’s nothing you’re not used to.
“I’ll hunt us some meat for dinner,” you announce as Mando sits the kid down on an old tree stump, starts gathering materials to make a fire. The trees above are still covering the darkening sky, but the cover isn’t as thick as it was before, perfect to allow the smoke to rise without interruption.
Mando nods, and leaves you to it.
You find a few of the rabbit-like creatures that live in the forests and come out at dusk, making their deaths quick with a silenced shot from your rifle. It doesn’t take long, and soon you’re back at the makeshift camp, finding Mando sitting beside the kid and stoking the newly-made fire.
He offers to help you cook, but you politely decline. Help is more of a hindrance nowadays.
Of course, he doesn’t eat in front of you. At least you understand why now. “I can look away,” you say to him with a mouthful of meat. “So you can eat.”
“I’ll take first watch. Eat while you sleep.”
You don’t exactly need to take watch, though you can understand that it’s probably a bounty hunter’s instinct if the possibility is there.
But regardless, there’s only one tent.
So, in agreement, you nod.
It’s a curious thing, this Creed he speaks of. You wonder why it’s prohibited to take off his helmet. You wonder if there are loopholes, if he could take it off in the dark in front of someone, so they couldn’t see his face. If it has to be this helmet in particular, or if any face covering will do. If he can take it off if he’s injured, or if someone else is injured and he needs to give them mouth-to-mouth, or something.
(Maker, you can’t let yourself imagine it.)
But, surely a Creed worth devoting your life to would allow you to remove the helmet to save someone’s life.
Not that you don’t know a thing or two about hypocritical religions.
When it comes time to sleep, the two of you set up the tent together, propping up the canvas on twigs, letting it hang down to form a little door. You spread out your sleeping mat, covering it with a blanket. “What about the kid?” You ask. He’s still sitting on the tree stump beside Mando, but after such a big dinner and a long day of hiking, he’s very clearly already drifting off to sleep.
Mando looks down at him, then back at you, then at the tent. “He can stay with me.”
You raise an eyebrow. Grogu is all but falling to the side, careening towards Mando’s armoured thigh like it’s a pillow he’s aiming for, but he’s going to fall asleep before he gets there.
“It’s going to get chilly,” you say, looking up. What you can see of the sky through the trees shows that it’s clear. You hesitate, glancing between Mando’s unmoving, visored gaze and the half-asleep kid. “He can sleep in the tent,” you offer, tentative, unsure if it’s overstepping to suggest such a thing. “I mean—if you want.”
He’s silent again. Just staring. Not a twitch of a muscle. Maybe he’s looking you all over under that helmet, observing you, taking in every inch. The thought makes you blush, sends heat to your neck and your cheeks.
“Are you sure?” He asks, finally.
You blink, surprised. Honestly, you hadn’t expected him to agree to it; you’d have understood if he didn’t. “Yes, I’m sure,” you offer a smile, hoping it’s reassuring.
This is his kid.
This kid he keeps strapped to him at all times. You’ve never seen Mando without a hand on his back or an eye on him.
Mando seems to consider you for another moment, and you think he might change his mind as you wonder desperately what that unreadable face is thinking beneath all that armour—but then he stands up, cradling the kid in the crook of his elbow.
With a soft smile, you follow him over to the tent. You climb inside first, spreading out a second sleeping mat for the kid, right next to yours. You bolster it with the extra blanket, fold half of it to make more cushioning and the other half to be used to cover his little body.
And then, Mando tucks him in.
He pushes the blankets around him with two fingers, making sure there’s no room for a draft. The kid is fast asleep, snoring softly.
You watch, fascinated, as Mando makes sure he’s comfortable and secure. Then his visor is on you again, and you feel caught, that he saw you looking at him. Gazing.
“You let me know if he’s any trouble,” Mando says.
Wide-eyed beneath his hidden gaze, you nod. “I will.”
He lingers again, quiet. Then nods, gives the kid one last affectionate tap on his forehead, and leaves you both in the quiet.
As you lie down, you decide to lie on your side and face Grogu. You’re not sure why. It feels weird to let him out of your sight.
Then, as his ears twitch with a dream, he reaches out one of his clawed hands. At first you’re not sure what he wants, or even if he’s aware that he’s doing it. He’s still asleep, definitely dreaming.
Nonetheless, you can’t turn him down. Carefully you reach out your pointer finger and place it between Grogu’s. He coos happily, lets out the cutest little sigh you’ve ever heard, and squeezes your fingers.
It feels like he’s squeezing your heart, too.
It’s a lot.
And you can’t very well let him go, can you? That would just be cruel.
You fall asleep like that. And when you wake to swap watch with Mando, the kid’s hand is still in the same place, and it takes everything in you to pull away.
Sitting around the fire with your blanket around your shoulders, you gaze up at the stars that you can see glinting through the treetops. You remember what it was like to be up there, the day you escaped, when you found your way here. Your dream was always to travel the Galaxy, to see all the planets you possibly could, to fly past moons and see suns and find yourself in a life on each planet, even for a short time.
It could never be an option, of course. That small glimpse of such a life that you had on the day you left for this place will have to do.
You think about Mando, wonder what sorts of places he’s been to. A bounty hunter must have been all over the place, surely?
It might be too personal, but you make a mental note to ask him about his travels in the morning.
-
It’s not long until the sun rises. The forest comes to life as the sky lightens above you, fading from the inky blackness at the zenith to a lighter pale blue and amber towards the horizon. Birds start to tweet in the trees, animals and insects skittering along the floor. Dew coats the tufts of grass at the bases of trees, and moss shines on rocks, just like it does every morning. You can smell it, earthy and familiar. It’s beautiful. It’s been a while since you came for a hike; you had forgotten just how serene it is.
Even when Mando steps out of the tent with the kid in his arms, somehow he doesn’t break the serenity. You’d think that any person would mess with that, let alone someone head-to-toe in Mandalorian armour. But he moves so quietly, so casually. He doesn’t talk too much.
He’s still got his helmet on. You wonder if he sleeps with it on; if the kid has ever seen him without it. Would that be breaking the rules, for his child to see his face? Are there exceptions to who can and who can’t?
“Morning,” you say to him from your place on the tree stump. The fire is still burning steadily, crackling with new kindling.
He nods in response. The kid, cradled in his arm, lights up at the sight of you and makes a happy babbling noise, reaching towards you. Mando notices, glancing between the two of you. “Do you mind…?”
Shaking your head, you mirror Grogu, reaching out ready to hold him. Mando hands him over and you bounce him on your lap, cooing a good morning greeting to him, asking how he slept. You wonder if his species can speak Basic; if he will learn as he gets older, or if he will always speak in babbles and coos. Either way, he seems pretty good at communicating, and Mando definitely understands him well.
Ironically, even though Mando is the one who speaks, he’s the harder one to decipher.
“You hungry?” You ask the kid, who garbles in response, blinking up at you with those big eyes. You look to Mando, and ask him, “Are you hungry?”
“I’m fine.”
“You should eat. We all should; we’re going to be walking all day.”
Mando nods. “Alright. Are you going to hunt?”
“I can. But we have ration packs.”
“I’m fine with anything.”
“What about the kid?” You ask, ducking your head to meet Grogu’s eyes again. He grins at you, tilting his head like he’s listening. “Do you like boring old ration packs?” He makes an indiscernible noise in response.
You look to Mando for the translation.
Something in his modulated voice is lilted, perhaps with a smile or a smirk, “He’ll eat it. He’s pretty good at finding his own food, though.”
“He hunts?”
“Not exactly,” he says, still sounding amused with the tilt of his helmet. He stands with his weight on one leg and the other relaxed, leaving his hip cocked out just a little. He’s so casual, so commanding but not demanding or intrusive. It’s really fucking attractive, actually, and you have to stop yourself from staring at him, opting to use the kid as a distraction. “He’ll eat all sorts of stuff. Frogs, frogspawn, insects…”
“Oh, you’re a resourceful little guy, huh?” You ask Grogu, bouncing him on your knees. He coos in response and reaches out to put his little hand on your bicep. You look back to Mando, pointedly looking right at the dark T of his visor instead of the shape of his body. “In that case, I say we just eat some ration packs and get started for the day.”
He makes a gesture of agreement with his gloved hand.
Then you realise, “Oh. Unless you want to eat before we pack up, so you can…you know,” you gesture vaguely to your own face, only realising after doing it that it might be a little disrespectful.
He doesn’t seem bothered. “Thank you. I’ll eat now. I won’t be long.” He hesitates before turning towards the tent. “I…I can take the kid?”
Grogu makes a sound of disapproval. One of his clawed fingers is curled around a lock of your hair and he pushes his face into your chest, as if pointedly hiding from Mando.
Well, one thing’s for sure, the kid doesn’t need to speak Basic to be able to say I don’t wanna.
Mando chuckles, a definite laugh this time rather than that ambiguous huff of air through the modulator. The helmet tilts slightly towards you, and he says, ruefully, “I don’t think he wants me to take him.”
“That’s alright,” you say, finding that you mean it. Probably the first time ever you’ve been happy to be left with someone else’s baby. You look back to Grogu, who is staring at the lock of hair he’s got in his hand. “We’ll make do, won’t we, kid?”
Mando is silent for a minute, observing. You can feel his gaze, intense even through his visor. You wonder if he’s smiling, or if he’s frowning with concern at the prospect of leaving his kid with you while he ducks away to eat. But when he speaks, he sounds calm. “I won’t be long,” he promises again. “Be good, kid.” And with that, he disappears into the tent.
While he eats, you stand up and start disassembling the makeshift camp you’ve made, propping the kid on your hip as you potter around. You kick dirt over the fire and snuff it out, pack up your cooking pot and mess tins from last night and put them in your pack. Grogu reaches out for almost everything that you pick up. You can’t exactly give him all he asks for, but you do give his hand a little squeeze and a shake each time you have to turn him down.
Once the three of you are fully packed up, fed, and ready to head off, you sling your pack over your shoulder, and hand the kid back to Mando.
“Was he good?” Mando asks.
“Very,” you say, giving Grogu an approving smile as Mando puts him into the satchel, his head poking out over the top. “He’s a curious little guy, isn’t he?”
“Too curious. Gets him into trouble.”
You laugh. The morning breeze is mild, blowing wisps of hair away from your face and up into the air. “I can imagine.”
You walk in silence for a while, through the forest that is slowly getting less and less dense. It starts to thin out soon, opening instead into open planes of rolling, green hills. When you first got here, it was surprising that no one had claimed this land for farming; the fields are so large, so open, just asking for someone to come along and build a crop farm. But it didn’t take long to realise that the only things that can grow in this soil are native plants; and even then, it’s just during spring. Halfway through summer, the grass on the fields fades away and leaves just dirt in its wake. The land isn’t fertile enough to make it profitable for crops.
So, like the rest of this place, it’s left untouched.
As the fields approach, you point to the horizon ahead of you. “We have to head over the hills for a while,” you say, “lots of ups and downs.”
“Any more wild animals I should be on the lookout for?” He asks, dry humour slipping through his modulated voice.
“Oh, always. But, don’t worry, I’ll warn you about them. I told you about the lizards?”
“Briefly.”
“They tend to live near water, or come out in the rain. They have stingers.”
“Great. Poisonous?”
“Yes. Not lethal, but painful.”
He tilts his head to look at you as you walk. “You been stung before?”
“Yes. When I first got here, I…thought they were cute.”
“…Did you try and make friends with the stinging lizards?”
You laugh. “Yes,” you admit, sheepish, “yes, I did. I learned my lesson. They’re not generally actively hostile, unless you stumble upon one of their nests; but if you approach one with your hand held out like it’s a cute Lothcat, you’ll live to regret it.”
“I tend to stay away from creatures I know nothing about,” he says, and you could swear that he’s teasing you.
It’s kind of addictive. The soft lilt of amusement in his voice as you wonder what his expression might be, if he’s smirking, raising an eyebrow. “I’d never met a lizard with a stinger before,” you say in defence.
“Even Lothcats can be pretty ferocious if they want to be.”
“Tell me about it. Once got near-mauled by one for almost stepping on its tail by accident,” you say, shuddering over-dramatically as the memory comes back. You think about Lothal, about the planet you’d heard so much about, growing up around its native felines. Eyeing Mando curiously, you venture, “So, you’ve probably been all kinds of places, haven’t you?”
He hums noncommittally. A vague gesture of a gloved hand. “The job takes me everywhere. Can’t say I go for sightseeing.”
“And what about the kid? Has he always been with you for your travels?”
Shockingly, Mando’s confidently casual steps falter for just a second, a hesitation so fleeting that you could have imagined it. The helmet glances at you, looks away just as fast. “Long story,” he eventually settles on.
Halfway up the first hill, the rising sun shines up from behind the crest right ahead, long beams of light flying up into the air above you, blue skies beyond. Mando doesn’t break his stride as the landscape changes, but you slow a little, taking a moment to appreciate the view. It really has been too long since you’ve come for a hike, seen the sunrise.
Now that you’re a few paces behind Mando, though, you are shamefully distracted from the beauty of this planet’s nature, because the beauty of this Mandalorian’s nature is very much something that seems to steal your attention at the first chance it gets. His wide shoulders that, if you look closely enough at, you can see shifting beneath the flight suit that lives under his armour. There’s actually quite a lot of the thick, brown fabric showing in between armour plates. He’s got a cape, too, flowing behind him in the breeze like something from a cheesy HoloNet movie. His cowl covers up the back of his neck. You find yourself wondering what colour his hair is, if he has any; whether he has facial hair; what the curve of his jaw looks like…
Before you realise it, you’ve reached the crest of the hill.
You’re out of breath. It’s either because of the hike or because of the incredibly inappropriate thoughts currently rushing through your mind.
Now that you’re up high, you can see much of the surrounding landscape. In fact, right on the edge of the horizon, through the thin morning haze that’s forming in the distance, you can see the valley that leads to the scrap heap.
You stop walking and point to it. “See the valley up ahead? We’re not far, now. Should be there by the afternoon.”
Mando nods. Suddenly thirsty, you reach into your pack for your flask and take a big, long swig. The water is still cold from the river where you collected it this morning.
“You thirsty?” You ask the kid. As expected, he reaches out his little hands towards you, and takes the flask in them as soon as he can. It looks comedically large compared to him, and as he tips it up to take a sip, some of it dribbles down his face.
He giggles at the sensation, coaxing a laugh from you, too.
“Kid,” Mando scolds, not a hint of actual disdain in his voice. He reaches down his gloved hand and rubs off the droplets of water that sit upon the canvas fabric of Grogu’s little robe. As he does so, the cowl of it pulls back, revealing something bright and shiny beneath it. It’s the same silver colour as Mando’s armour, but not a solid panel like his breastplate. It’s chain mail, tiny little hoops hooked around one another to form a cute little armour shirt.
Once Mando has cleaned him up, he tucks the neck of the robe back up again. Either he’s unaware that you saw the armour, or he doesn’t care that you did.
He’s staring out at the horizon, waiting for you to move again. As you take the flask back from the kid, you observe Mando out of the corner of your eye, something warm flaring in your chest. The kid has armour made from the same material as Mando’s. You wonder if he took some of his own to make that, if he gave it to protect him.
“The armour,” you say, tentative. “Did you make it?”
He puts his hand over Grogu’s chest, almost protectively. His shoulders tense, twitch a little. “No.” He doesn’t elaborate.
“Is it made of the same metal as your armour?”
“Beskar,” he provides, then, “yes.”
That’s cute as fuck. You smile up at him for a second, squinting in the sunlight that shines bright in your eyes. “It suits him,” you say, and then start down the hill, towards your destination.
He follows.
-
It takes another couple of hours to get to the scrap heap; there isn’t really a path, per se, so it’s a lot of winding around obstacles and avoiding various patches of impenetrable land.
A stinging lizard passes across the ground in front of you at some point, and Mando’s blaster is aimed at it before you even realise what’s going on, his other hand moving to block the kid.
The lizard, of course, could not be less interested. It’s gone before you can even blink, and Mando is just left standing there with his blaster pointed at nothing.
It’s funny. You can’t help the chuckle that bubbles up in your chest.
He glances at you, and if you didn’t think he seems like the most self-assured person you’ve ever met, you might think that he looks a bit embarrassed.
“Can’t be too careful,” you say with a smirk, hoping that the tease isn’t overstepping.
He holsters his blaster again, gets the kid comfy in the satchel. He nods, and keeps going.
The scrap heap is just how you left it last time you passed it, if a little more overgrown than before.
“How long has this been here?” Mando asks, gazing down at the shiny, greenery-covered mess of some kind of crashed starship.
“It’s been here as long as I have.”
He looks at you. “Which is…?”
You bristle. “A while.”
“Why has no one raided it? I can already see parts here that would get a decent price for a trade.”
“I told you,” you say, shrugging with your arms folded over your chest, “I’m the only person on this side of the planet.”
Gaze on you, he tilts his helmet. Either in amusement or consideration, you’re not sure. Maybe both. “And you’ve explored the entirety of this side?”
“Alright, alright,” you roll your eyes at his wry tone, “not literally. But isn’t the fact that this is still here proof enough of that? That, and the empty maps you had.”
He looks back to the scrap pile. “Yes,” he decides on.
“Right. What do you need?”
You get to work, following Mando’s instructions for what to look for, and finding a few pieces he didn’t ask for but presenting them anyway, just in case. Most of them he takes, using a large piece of sheet metal from what was the ship’s body as a big carrier for them. Grogu explores the wreck of the small ship, too, sifting through piles of metal and wires to find things to play with.
You scavenge for hours, until the sun is lowering in the sky and glowing insects are starting to gather in little floating orbs. Mando has his metal pallet covered in a net that he found amongst the wreckage, and he ties a rope to it, slinging it over his shoulder for the journey back.
“I can help with that,” you offer.
He shakes his head, which is probably dumb of him, because now he’s carrying his usual arsenal of weapons and heavy armour, the pack carrying the tent, along with the kid in his satchel, and a huge trailer filled with metal that he’s going to have to drag along the forest floor. But he doesn’t seem too worried by it. “Let’s go.”
You watch him go for a second, raising an eyebrow. The pallet lifts up and down with each swing of his arms, each step, the metal rattling away underneath the net.
If he wants to wreck his back carrying it alone, so be it.
Night falls quicker than you’d expected, and you’ve only just made it back into the forest before it’s getting dark and stars are starting to twinkle in the sky. Mando is still carrying everything himself, you with only your regular pack and a small bag of tools you gathered from the heap. They’re a little dirty, some even housing some green leaves and vines, but it’s nothing a cloth and some scissors can’t fix.
Setting up camp is quick, the two of you finding the same rhythm you’d discovered last night. Grogu sits on a fallen tree trunk by the fire, playing with a large bolt he must have found back there.
“Do you think you got everything?” You ask, stoking the fire as Mando sits down beside Grogu.
“Yes. Thank you for your help. You’re right, this place is a maze, I’d have got lost on my own.”
You nod your agreement. There’s meat cooking in a pan over the flames, sizzling away along with some herbs you found in the forest. Your stomach rumbles hungrily as you scrape the finished meal into two mess tins and one small bowl for the kid.
“Careful, Grogu, it’s hot,” you tell him, placing it down on the floor in front of him. He looks at you curiously, then down at the bowl. He reaches down too quickly and goes to shove the meat into his mouth, but Mando’s gloved hand gets there first and stops him.
“She said it’s hot,” he tells him. “Be careful.”
Grogu seems to consider Mando in the same way he had you, then he looks down to the food, back up to Mando. Like he’s waiting for approval.
“Go on,” Mando assures him. “Slow.”
Tentative, like he actually understands what Mando is saying to him, he lifts the meat up to his lips and puts it in his mouth. Instantly he spits it out with a strangled whine, and glares down at the offending piece where it sits, steaming, on the forest floor.
Mando sighs tiredly. “Here,” he reaches into Grogu’s bowl, pulls out a few chunks of meat in one go and places them on his hand. “My hand’ll cool them off in the air. Take this one, see, it’s not steaming.”
Grogu hesitates, looking up at Mando again, making sure it’s safe. Mando gives him a short nod and extends his meat-laden hand closer to Grogu, who tentatively takes a new chunk, keeping his eyes on Mando as he moves it to his mouth.
He chews this one without burning himself, and a pleased noise comes from his throat instead of a pained one.
You watch the whole interaction, too distracted by it to remember that you’re supposed to be eating. Grogu clearly relies on Mando, trusting his word and his guidance, knowing that he wants the best for him. They might not be related by blood, but their relationship is the closest one can get to father and son.
Mando catches you staring.
You look away, clearing your throat before putting some food down it. “I’ll take the first watch tonight,” you offer. “You’re probably tired after lugging all that metal around.”
“I don’t mind if you want to rest,” he says. “I need to eat, anyway.” His shoulders are slumped, the first time you’ve seen them like that, and something about the slow way he moves just screams that he’s tired.
You look around the forest. There is literally no need for one of you to keep watch. No one is here, only the wildlife, who will always steer clear if they have no reason to come for you.
The tent is right there, easily big enough for three of you.
Mando rolls his shoulder as he waits for a response, and you could swear you hear a soft grunt come through his helmet, like he’s in pain. You’re not surprised; that’s the shoulder that both Grogu’s satchel strap and the rope for his pallet have been hanging from all day.
“We don’t really need to take watch,” you say, swallowing a mouthful. “We can sleep together, if you want. I mean—” you catch the awkward fumble far too late, the words having already slipped from your mouth, embarrassing and filled with double meaning. “Sorry, that’s not—I meant—”
He watches you scramble for words. His free hand is on his knee, fingers tapping against it. The helmet tilts a little.
You’re still trying to make up for what you said, “I didn’t mean…like that,” you say, though now that you’re thinking about it… “Obviously. There’s a kid here. I mean—! Not that I’d mean it like that if the kid wasn’t here, I just—”
He’s still staring.
Still tapping his finger.
“Maker,” you mutter to yourself and look down, shaking your head. “You’re an idiot.”
“Pardon?”
“Not you!” You snap your gaze back to him, panic setting in again as you realise he thought you were talking to him, “I—not you, I was talking to myself…”
Silence. You wish more than anything you could read his face.
Then, though, through the quiet comes a gentle huff of air, like a laugh just came from his nose and through the modulator. He relaxes, leaning back. “I know.” Is all he says, and yes, there is definitely a curve to his voice. A smile.
You gape at him. “You were just fucking with me,” you say. “You knew what I meant.”
“I did.”
A smile twitches at your lips unannounced. “I see how it is,” you let yourself relax, stabbing another chunk of meat with your fork. “You know, that’s not fair. I can’t see your face to tell if you’re joking or not.”
“Isn’t that what makes it fun?”
Without lifting your head, you glance at him. The visor stares, always staring, always thinking. His gaze might be unseen, intangible, but it’s still blatant and hot on your skin, and even though it sometimes makes you feel like squirming beneath it, you can’t get enough. “As I was saying,” you say, “if you want, we can sleep…at the same time.”
He twitches, glancing around, unsure. You watch him, finishing off the last of your meal. Grogu is still eating food, picking up pieces of it from Mando’s glove. There’s grease on the leather, little flaky pieces of wilted herb.
“It’s alright if you don’t feel comfortable,” you assure him. “I know it can be hard to let down your guard when you’re used to it being up.”
The helmet turns back to look at you, and your cheeks go hot under his gaze. “You do,” he says, half-question, half-statement.
“Yes. But we could both use the rest, if you want to get a full night.”
He’s quiet once again, and his fingers are tapping on the armour over his knee just like before.
You’re just starting to think he might be considering the offer when Grogu finishes his food and coos, lifting each of his fingers to lick between them. Mando is still staring at you, though, and it’s a lot. It’s like, even though he sees you through a dark visor, he really does see you. When he looks at you, it feels like he sees you. For real.
And that’s kind of terrifying.
You look back to his glove, welcoming the distraction. “Here,” you grab a scrap piece of cloth from your pack and wet it with water from your flask. “Your glove’s all messy. Can’t shoot a blaster like that.”
It’s only when you’re over there, crouched down in front of him and taking his hand in yours, that you realise this was a terrible distraction and has only made things worse.
Your palm holds the back of his hand, your other using the wet part of the cloth to wipe all the dirt away. Through the leather, you can feel the heat of his body. Feel the curves of his fingers, the bumps of his knuckles. You’ve never been this close to him, haven’t let yourself imagine how warm he’d be under all that armour, how human he really is—
And he’s staring, again, helmet tilted down to look at you. What is he thinking? Is he paying attention to your warmth, like you are to his? Is every touch to his glove like torture, like sparks going up his fingers from yours?
“Thank you,” he says once his hand is clean.
Startled by the sound of his voice, your eyes shoot up to look at him. You wonder if, if you looked closely enough, you’d be able to see his eyes. “You’re welcome,” you say. Then, realising you’re still holding the underside of his hand, you jump back like something has surprised you, needing to get away because you’ve been staring for too long; returning the same sentiment he so often gives to you, though undoubtedly easier to read than his.
You move away, and almost tumble back into the fire.
Like an idiot. Again.
But before the heat of the flames can touch you, gloved hands are taking a firm hold of your arms, holding you away from gravity’s pull. He’s even closer, suddenly, the firelight reflecting in the bright silver of his helmet. You see yourself in it, too, as the light flickers and fades in the breeze. He’s so close that you could just tilt your head and it would touch his helmet.
A part of you wants him to let you go, to drop you—though not literally onto the fire, thanks—to stop touching you because it’s making you feel things and he’s so close and you’ve never had someone that close that you actually wanted that close—
He moves you to the side, away from the fire, and gently lets you go.
As your backside settles into the dirt, you stare, dumbfounded, while he backs away from you and sits down beside Grogu again like nothing ever happened. Like that was nothing to him, just saving you from your own clumsiness.
And yet, the place where he’d held your arms feels like his hands were the flames.
“I’ll take first watch,” he decides on.
It’s ridiculous that disappointment sinks in your stomach.
“O—okay,” you stammer. You’re still just sitting there on the floor, a cloth in one hand, your other hand poised in front of you like you’re still waiting for his to sit in it. Embarrassed, you snap your fist shut, and force yourself to look away. “Alright. Wake me when it’s time.”
And you head off to bed, head spinning, skin still hot where he’d touched you and you’d touched him.
His hands were gentler than you could ever have expected from such a strong man. Firm enough to hold you in place, to keep you safe. Not hard enough to hurt you. Just gentle enough to drive you a little bit crazy, to keep you up for far too long after your head hits the pillow, as you imagine all the other places that his hands could find.
Kriffing hell.
I need to stop.
I’m just lonely. That’s all. Not crazy, just lonely.
It’ll pass.
It always does.
The Nature Trail: Part 3
Author Note: Welcome back to the final part of this sweet little story.
If you’re new here... this is part three to this.. part 1 and this... part 2
Bakugou x f!reader
Warnings: cursing, fluff, angst, reader is quirkless, somewhat heated moment
_______________________________________________________________________
The following days were a blur for you. You left the apartment you shared with Midoriya. Mrs. Walters had an apartment above her bakery that she would rent to you for free if you helped her during the holiday and rush seasons. You avoided social media not wanting to see any more pictures of Bakugou with his new fling or be there when news got out that you and Midoriya were no longer seeing each other.
You changed your lunch with a coworker for a later time. You knew Bakugou was going earlier so you would go later so you could avoid those intense red eyes with everything you could.
Yet, the trees of the trail were lackluster even with their fresh spring greenery. Even as birds hummed and more people began using the path in the warmer weather you felt like the trail you once held so dearly was dead. Yet, you walked it everyday as if you were visiting a grave of a deceased loved one. You tried to find happiness and comfort in the memories but you still felt a growing emptiness in your chest.
“Time, my dear, it’s all you can do,” Mrs. Walters told you one evening while you worked beside her after hours. You helped make a large birthday cake for a child’s party. “With time you’ll find your happiness.”
You hadn’t told her about Bakugou, you weren’t even sure if she knew that you knew each other. So, you assumed she had meant Midoriya.
You just nodded and continued to mix the batter.
“I’m thinking of getting some weekend help around here!” She carried on cheerfully. “You wouldn’t mind someone else down here would you?”
You smiled to yourself at her kindness and consideration of you. “Of course not Mrs. Walters. You do whatever it is you have to do!”
Weeks had passed since the hero gala and Bakugou searched endlessly for you each day on the trail. He went back to his usual time hoping to catch you. He even found himself waiting outside the door hoping you’d see him. He just wanted to apologize and wish you a happy marriage to Deku. No matter what he wanted or what he thought you deserved it wasn’t his decision and after a very long night of puking, and a very deep hangover he knew he just needed to give a real apology.
Of course he kept his promise to introducing Hana to Denki, the pro hero Chargebolt. Within a week they were making headlines about being the new hottest couple. At first tabloids ridiculed her for sleeping with Bakugou then moving right to Denki, but those rumors died away as the next big scandal came up.
Nothing had been said about you and Deku since that night. Nothing minus speculation on ‘the big day’. Reporters tried to get more details from Deku, but he replied no comment.
A couple of months passed and it was the beginning of summer before the top pros came home. Congratulating their rising heroes on the work well done. Best Jeanist even offered to sell the agency to Bakugou. The new rankings would come during the Fall Hero Awards and rumors were that he was set to be in the top of the chart.
Everything Bakugou could have ever wanted was coming true. He was going to be a top hero maybe even number one! He was going to have his own agency. He was making the name for himself that he had spent so many years perfecting. Yet, he didn’t feel excitement.
He just felt empty. He felt like the mask he wore for the world was cracking and he had to keep gluing it back together. He wanted so badly to be able to take that mask off like he had done with you so many times for so many months as you walked beside him.
He tried to find comfort in the nature trail. He tried to let the memories fill his chest and keep him warm. Sometimes it worked. Sometimes he felt fulfilled as he let the images of you touching trees and gazing at the branches take over his walks.
One afternoon he was called over by his favorite bakery owner.
“Boy get over here!” She called to him. He smiled to himself and strolled over to her door.
“Whatchya need, Granny? You got something you need carried up the stairs for ya?”
“Tch!” She shooed her hands at him dismissively. “You’re so brash! Can’t you help a sweet old lady out without all the lip?” She started back into the bakery signaling for him to follow her.
“Yeah sure. When you find me a sweet old lady to help out let me know!”
Her laugh echoed through the shop. She always enjoyed her banter with Bakugou. It made her feel like she was talking to a younger version of herself. She saw his hard exterior, but also felt his warm heart.
“I was wondering if you could help me some on the weekends!” She circled the counter and started wiping down the surface as she awaited his response patiently.
Bakugou balked at the request. He had a lot on his plate nowadays. He was about to be named a top hero and he was going to have his own agency soon too. He had so many things on his plate he didn’t have time to help at the bakery on weekends.
“Just for a couple of weeks while I find a real replacement,” She said calmly as if she could read his mind. He started to wonder if Granny had a mind reading quirk.
Bakugou thought about it for a moment. He glanced over his shoulder at your office building. His hopes of seeing on the weekend weren’t high as he never saw you on the weekends before so why would now be any different? He looked back at Mrs. Walters as she busied herself waiting for his answer.
“Alright fine! Just for a few weeks!”
You woke up early one Saturday morning to the scent of fresh baked croissants from the bakery below. Mrs. Walters told you in passing a couple of nights ago her new weekend helper would be starting. They must have gotten in early to start baking for the Saturday morning rush.
You walked over to your window and saw the old Jeep parked in front of the building. You saw that Jeep often and wondered who it belonged to. You always liked the idea of riding in one of those along the countryside in the summer. It was the perfect time of year. You hoped the owner enjoyed riding in it at much as you imagined you would.
Your black cat, Pepper, hopped up into your lap as you sat by the window and gazed out it longingly. The warm coffee in your hands and the sun beaming over her inky black fur made you feel at peace. For the first time since you moved into your new home you felt totally serene. It would be a good day you told yourself.
You didn’t go down to the bakery until a little past 8. You knew that Mrs. Walters wouldn’t mind you sneaking down to grab a croissant before she opened. However, since she had a new worker down there you wanted to let her finish showing them the opening tasks before you interrupted.
You snuck down the wooden staircase that led right into the kitchen. No one was in the area, you assumed they were out front tending to the first few customers of the day. You saw the croissants spread out along the island. They smelled delicious and looked equally as good. Even better than usual you noted. You swiped one off the tray and left a few bills on the counter.
A bit of your Saturday morning ritual; you would grab whatever pastry she was making for that morning, drop some money on the counter with enough for tip and go back upstairs. It was an unspoken agreement you had with her. Actually you had a lot of unspoken agreements that just seemed to work.
You pulled the pastry apart and took in the warm scent as it filled your nose. These smelled perfect. They were light, buttery, and perfectly golden brown. You put the first half in your mouth and began to walk back up the stairs.
“Oi!” A gruff voice burst through the door and made you stop in your tracks. “You gotta pay for that!”
You knew that voice. You could have picked it out anywhere. You turned around and there he was Bakugou Katsuki wearing a black apron and a black cap to tame his wild blonde spikes.
“Y/n?” His nose scrunched up in confusion. “What the fuck are you even doing here?”
You were so stunned to see him that you let the pastry just hang from your mouth for a moment. Then when you realized what was happening you reached up and pulled it from your lips.
Bakugou didn’t miss the missing ring on your left hand as you pulled the pastry from your lips.
Mrs. Walters told him she had a tenant upstairs, but she never mentioned it was you.
“I’m sorry. I left money on the counter. Mrs. Walters always just accepts it.” You pointed to the cash you had left.
“Yeah? Well, she never mentioned it to me. So...” He couldn’t find the right words. “Well, uh enjoy,” He uttered and started to turn around again.
This was literally the moment he had waited for. He wanted to see you, to apologize, but he didn’t expect to see you living above the bakery alone with no engagement ring anymore. He wasn’t prepared. He didn’t expect it.
Then, you, sweet gorgeous, you spoke first, “It’s delicious!”
A smirk crept across his face. He knew they were delicious.
“Tell Mrs. Walters this is the best batch yet!”
He turned to you with a twisted expression. “Psh! That Granny isn’t even here today. I made these myself!” He gestured to the dozens upon dozens of pastries before him.
“You made these? All by yourself?” Your eyes got wide and you looked back at the pastry in your hand with sheer shock. “I didn’t know you could bake!” A genuine smile broke out across your face. It delighted you to learn a new fact about him even in the tense state that was your relationship.
“Oh, I can bake, I can cook, I even fold my own underwear,” He joked dryly. You burst out into a laugh. One that he longed to hear again. He even chuckled along with you.
Then a feeling of bittersweet washed over you and you couldn’t stop your tongue. “Well, Im sure your girlfriend loves it.”
“Hah? I don’t-“ He was cut off by the bell of the front door. “I really want to talk to you. Can I-“ His eyes shifted around trying to figure out what to say next.
You had been avoiding this man for so long. You had originally been sure you wanted nothing to do with him. You didn’t want to open anymore old wounds. Yet, when presented with the opportunity you blurted out, “I’m off all day. Do you want to talk when the store closes?”
“Uh yeah! That sounds, good. Yeah we close at-“
“2. I’ll come down around 3? So you can get cleaned up?”
He nodded and let a small smile tug at his lips. “I have to go, I’ll see you soon.” He turned to walk away.
You ran back up the stairs, nervous. You had no idea what to expect from your talk. You weren’t sure, but the spark between you two was still there.
You paced your small apartment a million times over. You looked at your outfits trying to get ready. But then you had to remind yourself that you weren’t going on a date. Why did it feel like you were getting ready for a date though? You had to shake the thought from your head and went with jean shorts and a flowly crop top tank. It was one of your favorite outfits.
Three rolled around and you went downstairs. The shop was quiet and sparkling clean. You looked in the front and he was nowhere to be seen. You went back out the back entrance and rounded the front of the building. Was he standing you up? Were you once again going to look like a fool?
Just as anxiety began to settle into your chest you saw the Jeep you had been gawking at pull up. Out of the drivers side door emerged Bakugou.
“Hey, Princess, sorry, I got done a little early and wanted to run a quick errand.” He walked around the side of the car and opened the passenger side door. “Let’s go for a drive.”
You hesitated at first. You didn’t always feel comfortable getting into someone else’s car. Yet, when you looked into his red eyes you just felt secure. So you smiled and hopped in.
“What’s your flavor of music?“ Bakugou opened his Spotify and flipped through his playlists.
“Wanna do a blend list?“ You smiled. He scoffed, but nodded immediately sending you a link to join a blend list with him.
The mix of your songs was different and at the same time electric. You both listened to the same pop punk songs, but your list also featured pop songs and his heavy metal. You didn’t talk as you drove through the countryside. You watched as you saw the water glistening and stretching for miles welcomed you. The mountain side that the Jeep hugged was vast and intimating, but you wouldn’t have had it any other way.
You didn’t ask where you were going you trusted him. It was about a 30 minute drive before he pulled off the road the sign at the entrance read “The Green Trail”. He got out and came around to your side and opened your door for you.
He wore a black tank top that was no doubt underneath his T-shirt he wore for work at the bakery. For the first time since you met him you really noticed how toned his muscles were and how they flexed with each movement. You knew he was in shape, but in that moment you started wondering just how in shape he was.
He offered his hand to help you out of the truck. When you hopped down he settled his hand on your waist to keep you balanced on the uneven ground.
“Ya like nature trails?” He smirked already knowing the answer.
“Oh you know…I can go for one every so often,” You joked back.
You began walking along the new path. This one was different than the one back home. It was on the side of a mountain, the trees that loomed over you were so much taller, and their branches touched each other high above your head. You stared up at the leaves that grazed each other. It was like they held hands to keep you cool from the summer sun. You looked over at Bakugou and wondered what it would be like to hold his hand. Then you quickly shook the thought from your brain. This wasn’t a date.
Bakugou admired you as you looked up at the trees. He knew you’d appreciate this trail. It was one of his favorite, just a little to far from the city for daily walks. He watched the sparkle in your eyes and wondered what you were thinking about.
The silence while peaceful ate away at Bakugou. He shoved his hands into the pockets of his cargo shorts and finally broke the silence. “I wanted to say I’m sorry.”
“For what?” You hummed as you let your fingers graze the low branches as you walked by.
“For try to get between you and Midoriya. I shouldn’t have said those things. And I shouldn’t have ignored you. You’re a good friend.”
You didn’t stop, but you did turn just a bit to look at him. His shoulders were up by his ears and he glanced down to the side. His cheeks burned red. He didn’t need to tell you for you to know that apologies were hard for the explosive hero.
“It’s honestly not your fault. Izu-Midoriya… was controlling even if he didn’t mean to be. You were right about what you said. I do wish you didn’t ignore me though. Cause yeah I think of you as a good friend too.”
Bakugou’s ears burned. You weren’t living with him anymore, you didn’t wear your ring, you were calling him Midoriya instead of his first name it all solidified his prior suspicion, you weren’t with him anymore. It made his stomach twist with anticipation.
“What happened between the two of you anyways?” He asked eyeing your bare left hand.
You looked down at your hand and then tucked a piece of hair behind your ear. “I don’t know. When we first met it was so exciting ya know? I met someone so handsome and kind. When he told me he knew how I felt being quirkless I was thrilled. He promised to protect me. Then, I don’t know, it become possessive. He thought I was embarrassed by being quirkless or afraid of the world. I realized he didn’t really know me at all.”
“How do you feel being quirkless?” Bakugou pressed on.
“Fine. I guess. When I was younger I thought I was some sort of freak. Or that I wasn’t special. Then, I realized I had my own talents and passions. I realized I was happy just being me.”
Bakugou smiled to himself and nodded in agreement.
The walk continued in a moment of silence. Your words washed over both you as you felt the relief of being heard. He was always so good at making you feel completely heard.
“So, are you seeing anyone?” You looked at the ground. You thought you might know the answer, but the whole day was taking turns you hadn’t expected.
“Oh right! No. No I’m not not.”
“What happened with Hana?” You eyed him carefully. Suddenly in this summer heat you actually felt a little cold.
“Wha? Nothing. I was so drunk that night she just made sure I was ok then she asked if I would introduce her to another friend of mine.”
“But the-“
“Yeah tabloids. You can’t read that shit! It’s not real!” He scoffed.
You reached the end of the trail it spread out to a clearing that overlooked the valley. It was gorgeous and out in the distance you could just barely see the city.
“Woah,” You felt breathless. The colors, the wind, the shining sun all melted into a perfect moment.
“I know. I told ya it’s my favorite.” He stood next to you shoulder to shoulder. His arm brushed up against yours. He pulled his hand out from its pocket and turned it palm up in front of you. The large hand waited patiently for you to meet it halfway. “Promise, I won’t explode nothing.”
You smiled and let your hand settle into his. He laced his fingers with yours and ran a thumb over the back of your hand. Your hands were so smooth and his so scarred and rough. It was the contrast he had always enjoyed to his own.
You both looked out at the scene in front of you for a moment longer before he spoke again.
“I was thinking. Maybe I can show you how good of a cook I am. I bought some groceries and if you’d like I’ll make you dinner tonight,” He stated shyly rubbing the back of his neck.
“I’d like that.” You smiled peacefully, but inside your were screaming. This really was a date. A date you had no clue you were even going on until about five minutes ago.
You watched Bakugou work in your kitchen. You were honestly a little impressed with how comfortable he seemed to be. You had never pegged him as being a cook. Yet, the hulking blonde didn’t cease to amaze you.
“Like something you see?” He grumbled. Bakugou could feel your eyes on the back of his head. You sat at the counter of your breakfast nook watching with hungry eyes. It smelled so good you couldn’t wait to try.
“I mean that curry does look good!” You commented.
“Ha! Im sure after eating whatever it is that you’ve got in this freezer anything looks better.” You flushed. You weren’t the best cook, but you made due. He peered over his shoulder at you. “Alright,” He turned around with the spoon in his hand, “come on, let’s try it.” He learned over the counter towards you offering the spoon to your mouth.
You opened up and he let the sauce wash over your tongue. It was spicy and lovely. The sensation warmed your whole body not to mention the slight embarrassment you felt letting someone else feed you.
He watched as your lips closed around the spoon and your eyes fluttered close as you enjoyed his cooking. He loved seeing someone else light up from his food, but with you it went just a little deeper. You looked so angelic letting your brain work around each flavor you tasted. He loved that in a world where everything seemed rushed you were just taking your time.
When your e/c eyes popped back open and sparkled at him his heart began to grow. Then you licked your lips and smiled.
“It was delicious!” You grinned. Suddenly, Bakugou was keenly aware of how close the two of you were. You leaning over the counter and him on his elbows slowly moving forward to be closer to you. He looked at your eyes and then back at your lips.
“I am glad you like it,” He whispered barely loud enough from any one who wasn’t only inches away from him to hear. Luckily you were just close enough.
“I do, I really do,” You squealed back. Piercing red eyes burned a hole right into your soul. You could see every speck of color in them. You had never noticed the very faint freckles that dotted his nose.
“Yeah,” He mumbled, “me too.”
The cord snapped you stretched just a little further closing the gap and kissed him. You kissed over your kitchen counter and over the dirty spoon. You practically crawled onto the counter to get more of him. The scent of burnt sugar filled your nose and you just wanted to be pressed closer to him.
All of his senses were on fire. The taste of the minty gum you had chewed on the way home, the smell of your soaps, the feeling of your lips on his. It was all too much.
He dropped the spoon and pulled away from your kiss. Immediately, you protested but halted once you saw him come around the counter in three long strides. He approached you with parted lips, wrapping muscular arms around your waist and letting his lips crash into yours once again. He pulled you up from your spot at the counter. You wrapped your legs around his waist and your arms around his neck. Kissing him wildly and letting your tongues interact and explore each other’s. He hooked his hands under your thighs and squeezed firmly. He loved the feeling of your plush thighs between his rough finger pads. The electricity between you was so hard to deny.
When you finally pulled away, breathless but still in his arms he looked deep into your eyes and smiled a true genuine smile. One that almost no one ever saw out of the man.
“Hey, I really like you,” He mumbled and pushed his forehead to yours.
“I really like you too.” You settled in his arms feeling safe, welcomed and love for the first time in a very long time.
Summer came and went and fall was well on its way. You let your new relationship with Bakugou grow as it meant to. Everyday he would meet you for lunch and you would walk your usual path. Things felt natural and unburdened.
He grazed your bare back and helped usher you into the building. Tonight you wore another curve hugging gown, it was black, strapless and satin. You matched Bakugou’s signature black on black attire.
“You look amazing by the way,” He leaned in and spoke against your hair.
Dread filled your belly. This was the first event since the tabloids found out you and Midoriya were no longer together. He told the press after you told him about your new relationship with Katsuki. You just weren’t sure how they’d react to you being with another pro hero.
When you entered the building the press went insane. They shoved mics and cameras in your face. Yet, Bakugou did his best to shield you from all the commotion.
“Dynamite! Rumor has it you’re going to be revealed as the new number two! How do you feel?”
“In-fucking-credible,” He said with a squeeze to your hip.
“How did you meet y/n?”
“It’s a secret.”
“Y/n are you and Deku still friends?”
“We have a good relationship still. Yes.” You looked over at Midoriya who was standing with his own date. He smiled and nodded at you.
“Who’s better in bed, y/n?” Your cheeks flushed you knew that question was coming.
“Get out of here with that! But me!” Bakugou put a large palm in the face of the reporter who asked that question.
You blushed again thinking of how he really did rock your world better than anyone else ever had.
“Y/n, last question! What’s your quirk?”
You immediately felt uneasy. Your eyes glanced at Bakugou by nature. You knew you didn’t need his permission, but he nodded giving it anyways.
“Actually I’m quirkless.”
The reporters fell silent. They stared at Bakugou and back at you, then back to Bakugou.
He gave his signature smirk, pulled you close to him and said just barely loud enough for the reporters to hear, but plenty loud for you to hear, “That’s my girl.”
6 Ways NASA is Involved in Climate Science
When it comes to climate change, we play a unique role in observing and understanding changes to the planet. Thanks to NASA’s Earth observations and related research, we know our planet and its climate are changing profoundly. We also know human activities, like releasing carbon dioxide and methane into the atmosphere, are driving this change.
Not only do we make these observations, we help people and groups use this knowledge to benefit society. The work we do at NASA is critical to helping us understand the ways our planet is responding to increased temperatures.
Here are 6 ways that we are involved in climate science and informing decisions:
1. Monitoring Earth’s vital signs
Just like a doctor checks your vitals when you go in for a visit, here at NASA we are constantly monitoring Earth’s vital signs - carbon dioxide levels, global temperature, Arctic sea ice minimum, the ice sheets and sea level, and more.
We use satellites in space, observations from airplanes and ships, and data collected on the ground to understand our planet and its changing climate. Scientists also use computers to model and understand what's happening now and what might happen in the future.
People who study Earth see that the planet’s climate is getting warmer. Earth's temperature has gone up more than 1 degree Celsius (~2 degrees Fahrenheit) in the last 100 years. This may not seem like much, but small changes in Earth's temperature can have big effects. The current warming trend is of particular significance, because it is predominantly the result of human activity since the mid-20th century and is proceeding at an unprecedented rate.
People drive cars. People heat and cool their houses. People cook food. All those things take energy. Human-produced greenhouse gas emissions are largely responsible for warming our planet. Burning fossil fuels -- which includes coal, oil, and natural gas -- releases greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, where they act like an insulating blanket and trap heat near Earth’s surface.
At NASA, we use satellites and instruments on board the International Space Station to confirm measurements of atmospheric carbon levels. They’ve been increasing much faster than any other time in history.
2. Tracking global land use and its impacts
We also monitor and track global land use. Currently, half the world's population lives in urban areas, and by 2025, the United Nations projects that number will rise to 60%.
With so many people living and moving to metropolitan areas, the scientific world recognizes the need to study and understand the impacts of urban growth both locally and globally.
The International Space Station helps with this effort to monitor Earth. Its position in low-Earth orbit provides variable views and lighting over more than 90% of the inhabited surface of Earth, a useful complement to sensor systems on satellites in higher-altitude polar orbits. This high-resolution imaging of land and sea allows tracking of urban and forest growth, monitoring of hurricanes and volcanic eruptions, documenting of melting glaciers and deforestation, understanding how agriculture may be impacted by water stress, and measuring carbon dioxide in Earth’s atmosphere.
3. Research into the causes of climate change
Being able to monitor Earth’s climate from space also allows us to understand what’s driving these changes.
With the CERES instruments, which fly on multiple Earth satellites, our scientists measure the Earth’s planetary energy balance – the amount of energy Earth receives from the Sun and how much it radiates back to space. Over time, less energy being radiated back to space is evidence of an increase in Earth’s greenhouse effect. Human emissions of greenhouse gases are trapping more and more heat.
NASA scientists also use computer models to simulate changes in Earth’s climate as a result of human and natural drivers of temperature change.
These simulations show that human activities such as greenhouse gas emissions, along with natural factors, are necessary to simulate the changes in Earth’s climate that we have observed; natural forces alone can’t do so.
4. Research into the effects of climate change
Global climate change has already had observable effects on the environment. Glaciers and ice sheets have shrunk, ice on rivers and lakes is breaking up earlier, plant and animal ranges have shifted, and trees are flowering sooner.
The effects of global climate change that scientists predicted are now occurring: loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and longer, more intense heat waves.
Climate modelers have predicted that, as the planet warms, Earth will experience more severe heat waves and droughts, larger and more extreme wildfires, and longer and more intense hurricane seasons on average. The events of 2020 are consistent with what models have predicted: extreme climate events are more likely because of greenhouse gas emissions.
Plants are also struggling to keep up with rising carbon dioxide levels. Plants play a key role in mitigating climate change. The more carbon dioxide they absorb during photosynthesis, the less carbon dioxide remains trapped in the atmosphere where it can cause temperatures to rise. But scientists have identified an unsettling trend – 86% of land ecosystems globally are becoming progressively less efficient at absorbing the increasing levels of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Helping organizations to use all the data and knowledge NASA generates is another part of our job. We’ve helped South Dakota fight West Nile Virus, helped managers across the Western U.S. handle water, helped The Nature Conservancy protect land for shorebirds, and others. We also support developing countries as they work to address climate and other challenges through a 15-year partnership with the United States Agency for International Development.
5. Action on sustainability
Sustainability involves taking action now to enable a future where the environment and living conditions are protected and enhanced. We work with many government, nonprofit, and business partners to use our data and modeling to inform their decisions and actions. We are also working to advance technologies for more efficient flight, including hybrid-electric propulsion, advanced materials, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
These advances in research and technology will not only bring about positive changes to the climate and the world in which we live, but they will also drive the economic engine of America and our partners in industry, to remain the world-wide leader in flight development.
We partner with the private sector to facilitate the transfer of our research and NASA-developed technologies. Many innovations originally developed for use in the skies above help make life more sustainable on Earth. For example:
Our Earth-observing satellites help farmers produce more with less water.
Expertise in rocket engineering led to a technique that lessens the environmental impact of burning coal.
A fuel cell that runs equipment at oil wells reduces the need to vent greenhouse gases.
6. Applying climate research to preserve NASA centers in coastal areas
Sea level rise in the two-thirds of Earth covered by water may jeopardize up to two-thirds of NASA's infrastructure built within mere feet of sea level.
Some NASA centers and facilities are located in coastal real estate because the shoreline is a safer, less inhabited surrounding for launching rockets. But now these launch pads, laboratories, airfields, and testing facilities are potentially at risk because of sea level rise. We’ve worked internally at NASA to identify climate risks and support planning at our centers.
NASA Climate Science
Climate change is one of the most complex issues facing us today. It involves many dimensions – science, economics, society, politics, and moral and ethical questions – and is a global problem, felt on local scales, that will be around for decades and centuries to come. With our Eyes on the Earth and wealth of knowledge on the Earth’s climate system and its components, we are one of the world’s experts in climate science.
Knight! Natasha - part I
warnings: swords, knives, mentions of blood and violence
A/N: Thank you @sanguine-saber for helping me edit this!!!! This took me forever to write, i hope you all enjoy it!! i have a few more parts planned for it. Also Flashbacks are in cursive
An almost inaudible knock shook you out of your thoughts. Your eyes quickly shot towards the big wooden doors, letting out a breath of relief when you saw Natasha. Relaxing your shoulders you rushed towards the redhead, worry visible in your features.
“We have to go now,” her eyes locked with yours, “They’re arriving by morning, if we wanna get to safety before that we need to hurry”. Keeping her hand steady on your waist, Natasha pulled you through the long, echoing corridors.
Your thoughts ran wild with worry and confusion as you were led through what felt like a maze of stone. Why were they coming for you now, after all these years? What would happen if they got you?
Your hips bumped into Natasha’s as she came to a halt in front of you. Her eyes flashed a look of concern as her hand reached up to your cheek. “Hey they’re not gonna find us, okay? I’m gonna keep you safe,” you nodded, and her face relaxed; she knew you trusted her. You huddled closer as she pulled you into the dark yard.
The only sources of light were a few torches in the distance, so the two of you snuck through the shadows of the castle. Only a few soldiers here and there, their steps followed by the rustling of their chain armor. Suddenly Natashas arms flew up towards your chest, your back smashed into the wall with a low thumb. You squeezed your eyes shut in pain. Before any sound made its way past your lips, Natasha covered your mouth hand. She leaned in, her lips almost touching your ear.
“Don’t make a fucking sound” she said, her hand loosening.
Her sudden change in mood made your heart drop. Knowing you understood, she moved her hand from your face, so that only one finger hovered over your lips.
Rushing to the next corner, pairs of loud steps approached. The sound of metal on metal coming closer, as Natasha tried to peer around the corner without being seen. She kept you pressed against the wall, hidden in the shadows as the guards rushed past you.
When it was safe to come out of your hide, you gently tugged at Natasha’s waist, gesturing her towards the dark yard. With no guards in sight, you looked around one last time, before you quickly snuck behind an old tree.
“We can go through here, the tunnel leads right into the stables,” you said, opening a round trap door that was hidden under some overgrown ivy. Gripping the redhead’s hand tightly, you took one last look around the yard and the tall walls of the place you used to call home. Feeling a few small tears prick in your eyes, it felt like a lump was stuck in your throat as your vision clouded up. Swallowing down the wave of sadness overcoming you, you took a deep breath.
Light on your feet, you pulled Natasha through the tunnel, towards the horse stable, her hand still holding onto yours tightly. Even though you’ve held her hands a thousand times it still sent a comfortable, yet thrilling shiver down your spine. Rushing towards the stables, your breath heavy, you squeezed Natashas hand tighter, while looking around cautiously as you opened the door at the other end of the tunnel.
Your giggles echoed through the corridors, bright, warm rays of the sun falling through the colored windows. Chasing through the long halls your laughter mixed with the ones of the two girls running around with you. Running towards the big hall, your parents awaiting you, soft smiles tracing their faces. “Natasha has been training in combat for quite a while, do you think you would be able to train her more? With her becoming a knight our family reputation would be repaired for some part at least” a brown-haired woman, who seemed to be Natashas and Yelena’s mother. Grabbing the redhead’s hand you pulled her out of the big room, back through the never-ending corridors, rushing past old portraits of your ancestors and the bright colored tapestries, making the tall, cold stone walls appear warmer and more welcoming. Never letting go of the girl’s hand, who you just met that day.
Staring of out of an old tainted window you saw burning towers crumbling, your head couldn’t wrap around how they could’ve gotten here already, everything seemed fine yesterday until the letter arrived saying that they were coming for you too, after all these years. Why were they here already? You were supposed to have more time. She said you were safe for at least a bit longer.
Natasha pulled you through the stable, loud screams and heartbreaking sounds of destruction, mixed with the battle cries of falling soldiers fighting for your safety sent shivers down your spine, your chest rising and falling fast. It was overwhelming, a few tears falling down down your cheeks, mixing with the blood of small cuts you didn’t even notice till your tears hit them. Leaning against the wall of the stable your legs gave out, you sank down to the floor and buried your head between your legs. Trying to breathe in the air around you, filled with smoke and dust, you coughed a few times. Natasha quickly rushed over to you, one of her hands on your back. Her other one covered her face with a cloth, trying to protect herself from the smoke and dirt. Helping you stand up again you could hear her voice muffled by the cloth.
“Come on we gotta get out of here” she said, grabbing your hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze.
“I know a place we can lay low in for a while, until all this settles a bit okay?” she cupped your face, her thumbs softly wiped away your tears, dust particles clinging to your skin. You send the redhead a small smile, signaling her that you were gonna be fine, as she pulled you towards the horses. You watched as she quickly got the horse ready to leave, her hands worked fast and precise, after so many years of doing it perfecting the task. Natasha's swift movement was almost mesmerizing, your eyes never left her, in an attempt to dismiss the feeling of loss, that sat deep in your gut. Sitting down on the horse she held her arm out for you, you quickly grabbed it before she pulled you onto the horse’s back. Perplexed by how she managed to pull you up so effortlessly, despite her always being fairly small. Thinking further into it, you didn’t know why you were surprised.
Running after her, you could only see a faint bit of her red hair disappearing behind an old tall grown tree. Running after her you saw her smiling down on you from the first branch, shooting a smile back at her before you quickly climbed after her, the smile never leaving your face. Branch after branch the tree never seemed to end, while Natasha seemed to effortlessly, almost fly? Up the tree, her movements were mesmerizing. You didn’t even notice her grip on your arm, until she pulled you up the last few branches with her to a small platform at the top of the tree. Clinging to the now thinner branches you didn’t dare to look down, you could feel the big tree move with the wind dancing across the large forest beneath you. Pressing your eyes shut, while gripping onto the tree you slowly stood up on the platform. Still clutching to the tree, you could feel Natashas arms sneaking your waist and her hands finding yours, slowly loosening them from the tree, opening your fists. “Don’t worry, nothing will happen to us here” Natasha whispered into your ear, as her hand gently played with your fingers, feeling the soft breeze run through them, as her other arm pulled you closer to her. A few shivers ran down your spine, your muscles tensing up, as you opened your eyes more and more. Natashas fingers slowly tracing yours, it felt as if small fireworks went of wherever she touched your hand even ever so slightly, sending a warmth through your whole body, despite the cool air surrounding you. Feeling a bit more at ease you let yourself sink more into Natashas embrace, safe and warm in her arms your smile from earlier returning.
A small smile making its way onto your face at the memory, you softly chuckle at the moment lying in the past, only to be brought back to reality by the redhead pulling you towards her onto the horse. You could only grip her waist, before she ordered the horse to run of into the cold unknown of the woods in front of you. The barn behind you began to collapse as soon as you made your way through the tall doors. pillars falling over, the ceiling crashing onto the ground, covering everything with dust and broken pieces of wood, soon to be burning down when the flames reached the piles.
Tightly gripping onto Natasha, you could feel the cold air of the night rushing through your hair. The deep, hollow almost far away sounding clopping of the hooves mixing with the rustling of the leaves on the ground. The trees around you became more frequent, you were still following a path Natasha seemingly knew blindly. The light of the remaining fires slowly dying down as you left them behind you, the air surrounding you growing colder each second, making shivers run down your spine, whilst you scooted closer to the redhead. Following the path further into the forest the trees grew taller and the leaves thicker, until there was no light shining through them, except the small lantern Natasha light up earlier. You followed the path till it lost itself in the woods, no other paths insight Natasha skillfully maneuvered through the trees.
You didn’t dare to speak up, afraid your voice might shake or that someone, or something could hear you. The leaves above you rustling you could swear you saw a shadow, glide through the crowns of the trees near on your foot. Turning around, you could hear whispers all around, but no one was there.
You leaned forward you whispered “Nat, I think someone following us”
“I know,” the redhead said, giving you a slight nod. Looking around you again, the whispers slowly turned into faces, but not those of humans. Their faces all seemed almost identical, they were shimmering as if they were covered in metal, their eyes empty and mouths thin-lined, dark robes were covered their bodies. Your eyes grew wide, when realized how many of them were there, you mumbled under your breath for Natasha to go faster and you didn’t have to tell her twice.
The two of you hurried through the never-ending forest the creatures never seemed to end either. More and more appeared right behind you, their gloved hands reaching out for you, getting closer as each minute passed.
An everlasting panic seemed to have settled into your chest by now, your hands shaking, you couldn’t tell if it was from fear or from the cold that surrounded you.
One of the hands reached forward suddenly grabbing your coat, the same second a knife flew just centimeters past you, hitting the hand that reached for you, throwing your followers back for a second. Still in shook, you couldn’t move, knives flying through the air, hitting the mysterious attackers, one by one being knocked down, but more seemed to appear once a few were tackled down.
Grabbing onto Natashas sword, you pulled it out of its holster with one swift motion. Not being prepared for the weight of the weapon you yelped out a “shit” before you pulled yourselves up on the horse properly.
Swinging the sword you managed to hit a few of your followers, helping the mysterious assassins flying knives.
The forest still didn’t seem to find an end, neither did the masked creatures. You tried to fight them off as best as possible. It felt like hours, your arms growing tired till they went over to burning pain.
With your arms almost numb, breathing through your gritted teeth, you aimlessly swung the sword around, the adrenalin pumping through your veins being the only thing keeping you going in that moment. Just before exhaustion was about to take over you pulled the sword up so it wouldn’t fall.
Wrapping your arms around Natasha’s torso, stars appeared in front of your eyes, you quickly tried to shake the feeling of dizziness. You looked up, closing your eyes, as you tried concentrating on the air running through your hair, taking deep breaths. The cold fresh air of the night rushed into your lungs. Your throat scratching with an upcoming soreness, as the air entered your lungs.
After a few minutes, the dizzy spell went away. Slowly opening your eyes, still looking up you could see faint leaves above you, meaning you still haven’t left the woods behind you.
Looking around your attackers seemingly left or lurked somewhere in the shadows, one way or another you were glad u shook them off. Throwing a searching gaze into the heights of the trees for your mysterious helper, you suddenly locked eyes with the hooded assassin, their eyes following your, yet their face never showing, before you disappeared into the darkness of the night, finally leaving the dark forest behind you.
You Can Run [Yandere Sesshoumaru x Reader]
Title: You Can Run [Yandere Sesshoumaru x Reader]
Synopsis: For request “Could you maybe do something with Sesshomaru? Maybe his ‘darling’ trying to escape not knowing that it would literally be impossible?”
Word count: 1700ish
notes: yandere, kidnapping
Planning an escape when you are constantly being watched, constantly surrounded, is not the easiest of tasks. You know this, because you have been planning an escape from the demon lord Sesshoumaru for many days now. It wasn’t an easy decision. He once threatened to kill you if you ever tried to leave, and you don’t know if he means it--but he doesn’t seem the type to make idle threats, imposing and stoic as he is, which is all the more why your plans simply cannot fail.
You have to leave. You have to get home to your family. You have to regain your freedom and your normal life. And since he has no intention of letting you go, escape is the only way you can take back control of your fate.
So you planned, and planned, and bit by bit prepared yourself to leave. Every few days, you snuck a provision or two into a bag you’ve tucked into your clothing--nothing big, nothing Rin or Jaken or (if he deigned to deal with those everyday tasks, which he doesn’t) Sesshoumaru would ever notice. Dried meat here, a fire stone there, extra cloth, a needle for repairs. Little things, but important, if you were ever to make it home in one piece.
Of course, you’re no hardy traveler, no world-weary merchant or soldier who is used to life on the road, but the seemingly endless days and nights you’ve spent captive in his presence have hardened you a bit. Your feet are used to walking (and walking, and walking); you know how to make a fire more readily than you ever did in your village, where your parents or elder brother were only too happy to step in when you fumbled with the tools; and you’ve learned to be more aware of sounds in the forest, how to find clean water, where to fish and how to keep yourself warm when the darkness brings chilly air.
I can do this, you think, every time you feel your mind begin to falter. Every time you catch him staring at you, as if he can read your thoughts, as if he knows what you’re planning and he’s waiting for you to take that first step away from camp to grab you and snap your neck or worse.
I can do this, every time you take advantage of Jaken’s distraction to grab something you’ll need. The knife was your biggest feat, the last thing on your mental list; and you swear you can feel it burning against your skin, a warning that it was too risky and he’ll notice and you’ll be caught and--no, no, no, you think.
I can do this.
**
Your heart is hammering so violently that you’re briefly afraid that it will wake someone up. It won’t, you know--but that doesn’t make your nerves any less shaky or make you feel any safer. Your eyes do another sweep of the campsite as you slip off your footwear and tuck them into your bag, now full and slung over your shoulder.
Rin is sleeping peacefully, and your heart felt a pang of guilt when you’d slowly removed her arm from around your stomach--cuddled close, as she’d started doing recently. You do care for her, poor thing that she is, but you have to care for your freedom more. Jaken is sleeping… well, like Jaken--snoring and occasionally mumbling and clawing at the air. But the biggest obstacle to your potential escape is what worries you the most: Sesshoumaru. He’s leaning against the nearby tree, eyes closed, body passive and prone. Is he sleeping? Resting? The thoughts come in rapid flickers, terrified bursts that tempt you to lay your head back down and forget you ever began plotting to run.
But the temptation is overcome by the slow, dreaded visions of the future. Were you to be his unwilling travel companion forever? He would never say why, exactly, he’d taken you--would never tell you what he was going to do with you or when (if ever, if never) this would reach an end.
So you took the chance. And took a wary step. No movement from the demon lord. You took another step. Still, nothing--no, a breath, an easy one, careless. He must be sleeping. He must be sleeping. You take another step and another until you’re away from the flickering fire and instead in the woods, dark and loud with the sound of insects and animals. You slip on your shoes to protect your feet and pull out the pilfered knife, just in case. The moon above is round and glorious and you silently thank it for lighting your way. You needed to be able to see, to get as far away as possible, particularly during the first few nights of your barely-tangible freedom.
It’s thrilling. It’s terrifying. You could die out here, well before you make it home. You’re well-aware, now more than ever, of the potential dangers in the forest--of the potential dangers in the world. Yet you can’t help but think, as you push aside brush and ignore the itching of insect bites, would it not be better to be killed by a wolf or drown crossing a river than to be forced under the will of a demon lord?
You forge ahead, each step filling you with a shaky confidence. You’d done it. You’d gotten away. When the moon disappears and the sky turns its beautiful colorful shades to prepare for the rising sun, you feel something akin to happiness wash over you. Surely you’d gotten far enough that they couldn’t catch up right away, surely so--and you decide to take a rest in a natural clearing.
You sit against a rock and finally pay attention to the rumbling of your stomach. You had barely eaten the night before, too nervous to keep anything down. You don’t want to start a fire--you’re not that far away, you remind yourself--so you pull out a piece of cold, dried meat and take a bite. Maybe you can find a river soon to quench your thirst. Maybe you’ll even be able to catch a fish or two, though cooking them would have to wait.
And then, a branch snaps. Hard. You tense. A wolf? A bear? Your hands slowly reach for the knife you’d set on the ground. Could you fight off an animal with such a small weapon? Or would your theory about it being better to die at the hands of an animal be haunting you so quickly?
No, no, no. Your vision begins to blur in panic as the familiar visage of Sesshoumaru steps out of the trees. White--and red. And angry.
You manage to stand, legs quaking, the knife falling from hands that you can’t control, and you turn to run when you see that the white of his eyes have become a terrible blood-red. He’s going to kill you. The thought rushes through you--Is it better to die by the hands of the demon lord than to be his unwilling captive?
Your body moves of its own accord but it doesn’t matter, because you don’t take but a half-step when you feel him harshly yank you backwards by your hair. You tumble to the ground with a cry and he swoops down, pinning you to the forest floor with his claws.
His breath is hot and he practically spits as the words tear out of his throat, low and violent: “What did you think you were doing, human?”
His eyes are even more horrible up close, and your mind tries to think of chants, of prayers. His claws tighten at your wrists and you know you have to say something, though nothing will spare you from the death that you know is coming. Your body is trembling so wildly that your teeth knock together when you answer.
“I was going home. I was getting away from you. You--you can’t keep me.” You’re going to die, so you may as well be honest. At least you’ll die with a pure mind.
“Of course I can,” he hisses. “I will keep you, and you will listen, and you will stop being such a damned annoyance.” And just like that, his tirade over, his red eyes fade, returning to their impassive coolness. The air feels less heavy and you can breathe. But he doesn’t let you up right away, and stays uncomfortably close to you as you lay prone on the ground.
“The sooner you stop being foolish, the better.”
You don’t know what to say. He gets up, then, and stares down at you.
“Get up. We’re going back. I will think of a punishment later.”
He’s not going to kill you. You don’t know why. He’s going to keep you. And you don’t know why.
The will to live overpowers anything else, though, and your force your shaky body to get up off the ground. You glance at your bag, at the knife you’d dropped earlier, and Sesshoumaru merely stares as you gather up your supplies. Waste not, want not, you suppose.
He begins walking away from the clearing, back into the forest, and you have no choice but to follow. Your newfound freedom is already gone. You feel deflated. You feel more helpless than ever. What went wrong? Was he awake when you ran? Did you leave tracks, unknowingly, perhaps with your shoes? You have to know.
"Lord Sesshoumaru?”
He doesn’t answer, and you stare at the back of his head as he walks with an ease through the forest you’d taken much longer to navigate.
“How did you find me so quickly?”
He stops for a moment, just a second, before continuing on.
“I tracked your scent,” he says, without bothering to look back. “ I marked you a long time ago. I’ll always find you, no matter where you go. Remember that, human. ”
Ah, you think.
I can’t run.
You never believed you’d find someone to spend your life with. If anyone told you your holidays would one day be spent cuddling up with your boyfriend of almost two years in the apartment that you had just moved into together earlier that month, you would have told them they were wrong. Flat out wrong. Things as beautiful and destined as that only happened in movies, and you certainly weren’t lucky enough to get something like that. But, now, here you were.
And here was Mat.
Even after two years with Mat, there was still nothing better than spending the evening cuddled up with him on the couch. No matter how many fancy, expensive dinner dates he took you on at upscale restaurants in the city or how many helicopter rides you took together out in B.C. when he was showing you his home, or how much you loved hanging out with his friends and his family and his teammates, nothing was better than cuddles at home. As much time you spent together, you still felt as giddy and comfortable and safe and at-peace as that first time with him. Things didn't simmer down, that spark didn't fade away after a bit like you feared they would. But they became more subtle. You no longer had to ask him to come to the couch to cuddle, you no longer worried that maybe he wouldn't want to. It was a habit, at this point, to fall into his arms at the end of the day just the same as he did with you. You were each other’s safe havens, the place you laid your head to rest. You loved each other, and there was no place you’d rather be than together.
You’d spent the evening baking cookies, decorating the new tree, and wrapping his family member's Christmas gifts- a book his mom had been wanting, along with some of the cookies you'd made and various at-home spa items; hockey memorabilia and classic jerseys for his dad; and some new pieces of technology and the latest eye shadow palette that his sister had been wanting, along with some stupid jokes gifts that he wrapped in duct tape like the annoying older brother he was. Now, after the sunset bared its last light over the horizon and through your window, you lay together in bliss, with the tree twinkling its colorful lights across the room as you and Mat snuggled on the couch under a fluffy blanket, and everything felt right.
"I don't know why we went through all that work to decorate the tree if we're not even spending Christmas here." Mat grumbled playfully, his head on your chest, partially hidden under the blanket.
"Well," your face glowed in a smile as you remembered the flight out to Vancouver you had in a few days. Spending holidays with his family was always your favorite. Your family wasn’t the best, and it wasn’t too healthy to spend your holidays with them, but you always had Mat and his family. They were so welcoming, so kind, and for as many years now as you’d gone as Mat’s girlfriend, they had accepted you like family. "Because this is our home, Mat. It'd be wrong not to decorate it for the first time."
"I don't need a tree for this to feel like home."
“Aww, baby.”
“It’s true.” He pushed himself up onto his hands and knees above you on the couch, bringing his face level with yours. His warm breath hit your lips as he brushed his nose against yours, eyes slipping shut and grinning. “I love you. Always.”
“I love you always too.”
"I'm so glad you're here. I'm so happy we live together, finally."
"I'm glad we live together, too."
Mat snuggled down into your neck, the locks of dark hair that had been growing out lately tickling your face. You reached up to brush them aside and curl your hand around the back of his head, cupping his head against you tenderly . His hair was getting so nice and long, and you knew he’d have to cut it soon, per the team's guidelines, but god, you were gonna cherish it now.
"I actually have something for you, Maty."
"A Christmas present?"
"Well, an early Christmas present." You smiled at the excited look on his boyish face as he leaned back, the lights from the tree highlighting the sparkle in his eye. "You can't open it at your parent's house, so we're gonna do it here instead."
"What is it?"
"Try to figure it out."
He sat up then, his eyes scanning the room for anything that might seem out of the ordinary, anything that might be hidden. He was looking for his present, and you had to hold back a laugh at the sight.
"Maty…"
"No, no, I'll find it."
"Babe…"
"I got this."
"Let me give you a hint, at least." You sat up with him and took his hand in yours and cupped it against your cheek, turning your head to the side to kiss his fingers. He smiled at the touch, melting back into you and tracing his thumb across your skin.
"Alright, gimme the hint."
You pushed his hand down the smooth skin of your neck, the swell of your breasts, down the curve of your waist, and to the hem of his hoodie that swallowed you up. "It's right in front of you, baby."
"For real?" The joy in his eyes was the same you saw the first time you told him you were ready to take that step, almost two years ago now. No matter how many times you were together, he was always just as excited.
“You say that as if we’ve never done this before.”
“It always feels like the first time.”
You glowed and let go of his hand to reach up and cup his face between both of you. His words came so simply and without hesitation that you knew he was sincere. “Aw, Mat…”
“I’m serious.”
“You’re so sweet tonight.”
“Maybe I just really want to lay some love on you.” He hitched his hands under your thighs and tugged you close, lying you back against the couch once again. His hands slid up the soft skin of your tummy and waist, dipping under your shirt momentarily, and causing your breath to hitch in your throat- his hands always managed to do that to you- as you breathed out the words against his lips.
“Maybe I’m gonna let you.”
With one last grin, his face dipped down to yours, locking your lips together in a familiar, electric dance. Soft, gentle lips moving against yours had never felt as good as with any other boyfriends as they do with Mat. His touch was intoxicating, made your mind wander and your heart race flushed your skin and shocked you to the core. Ever since the very first time his hand grazed against yours when he reached out to hold it for the first time, to the first time your bodies connected in passion under the covers, it felt the same. Like fire. Even two years later, he drove you insane, and all you wanted, and frequently achieved, was to drive him insane as well. In the best way possible. Mat broke apart from your lips momentarily to slip the hoodie over your head, revealing his gift. “Fuck…”
Right there, in front of his eyes, your breasts were covered only by a lacy crimson fabric, held together behind a pretty red bow. With each heavy breath of anticipation, your chest was heaving softly before his eyes, and he found himself hypnotized by the gentle rise and fall.
“You like it?"
“Holy shit, you’re hot.”
“So are you.”
His eyes were wide, warm, and gentle, looking over you. He dragged his gaze away from your chest even though you could tell how hard it was, and shook his head. “Not as much as you.”
"Mmm", you took the liberty of taking his hands from where they had frozen beside you and placing them, big and warm, over your chest. "Go ahead, baby."
"No, no, I wanna savor this first."
His mouth dipped down, soft hair tickling your neck as he nibbled at your chest, laying little love bites and kisses along the tender skin. He cupped your boobs and squeezed them around his face, humming in content. You couldn’t help but laugh as he buried his face against you, and you could feel his grin break out against your skin. “Having fun, baby?”
“Oh my god, yes. You’re gorgeous. So soft.”
“Mmhm.” You sighed into his touch as he kissed his way back up your chest.
“Baby.” He spoke softly to get your attention, and your eyes opened lazily to see him, biting his lip and holding the delicate ribbon between two fingers. “Can I?”
“Please.” He gave a gentle tug, and with one last heave of your chest, the lacy bralette fell open, revealing one of Mat’s favorite parts of your body.
“Fucking Christ.”
“Bub, you can’t be swearing like that so close to Christmas.”
“How do you expect me not to when you’re…. God, just so perfect…” You saw the way his eyes glazed over mid-sentence in the colorful lights of the tree, the way his jaw went slack as you arched your chest up towards him. He reached out, slowly, as if worried you were going to disappear if he moved too quickly, and when the large, rough hands curled around the side of your waist and slid up and down, you felt goosebumps pop up along your skin.
“Your fingers are cold.”
“But you love it.” He ran the pad of his thumb over your nipples, watching as they pebbled under his touch in the cold air. “So do I.”
“Warm me up?”
“Always.”
He dipped his head down, his mouth hot and wet along the peaks and valleys of your chest, down your stomach.
His fingers traveled over the familiar layout of your body, colored in soft golden and red and green in the dancing Christmas lights, tracing each recognizable landmark with specific care- every memorized freckle and birthmark he had kissed since your first night together and every dimple in your skin that he cherished, every spot that had his fingerprints imprinted onto like memory foam after so many nights spent holding you tight with everything in him, as if you'd slip away. As if you'd want to. With each inch his hands followed, he found more, there was always more territory to be marked down, jotted down in his brain for future reference. He was always finding something new. Something more to use against you, to use against you in the best way possible, to push you further and further to that blissful end goal.
He made his way down, down, down, until his breath was hot over your lace-covered core, his hand gripping your hips tightly. Mat smiled as your hands found his hair, curling your fingers through a fistful of the dark locks before releasing and smoothing it back into place again. Mat's favorite thing about going down on you, besides the way it pleasured you, was the way your hands felt on his head, massaging and grabbing and twisting and pulling. It was heaven to him, letting you guide him around like that.
“Can I take them off?”
“Hmm.” As much as you wanted him to ravage you right there, with those soft, sultry eyes he was giving you, he was wearing far too many clothes. “You first.”
Mat didn't say anything else before stripping out of his dark crew neck sweater and jumping up off the couch to kick his gray sweats down. His smile was contagious as your gaze dropped from his face, down his bare chest and the little chain you’d gotten him for your anniversary, down towards the tent in his boxers with a silly, excited grin. He laughed. "Not tired of seeing me yet?"
"Never."
"You sure you’re not getting bored of my dick yet?"
"No, baby. Definitely not.” You grinned, the thought of spending the rest of your life with him bouncing around your mind. “Why? Are you getting bored of me?"
"No way." Mat leaned down to lace your fingers together and lock lips. "How could I?"
"How could I get tired of you, Maty?"
Mat hummed. He loved this little play, the little banter, the back and forth. He'd loved it since you first started dating, and he always would. He knew you loved him endlessly, but he played along. "I'm just a hockey player."
"No, you're my hockey player. My boyfriend. My pretty, pretty baby."
Mat settled back down between your legs with a warm smile. "Yeah, I am. So can I take these off now?" He hooked his fingers in the waistband of your panties. "C'mon, I know how much you love my tongue."
Your thighs squeezed around him at the words. “Fuck, please.”
“Anything for my baby.”
You lifted your hips for him as he tugged the lacy fabric down your thighs with nimble fingers, stopping momentarily after they were off to just look at you. He let out a sigh, his eyes finding yours again with a soft look as you squirmed a bit beneath him- not because you were shy, no, you were long past that point in your relationship, but because you just needed him to do anything to you. Mat had spent the past two years helping you love and appreciate your body, and this, right here in this moment, was the perfect showcase of how much he helped- as he was gazing down at your naked body and the only thing you felt was just the absolute need and desire for his body to move against yours and his warmth to cover you up. No nerves. Only love, and need.
“Shit, you’re gorgeous.”
“I know.”
The lack of hesitation in your reply had Mat bending over you and laughing. “That’s your response?”
“Yeah! I mean, you let me know. You make me feel so confident.”
“Mmhm, good, babygirl.” He scooted back down to lay his head against the soft, naked inside of your thigh gazing up at you through his eyelashes. “I always wanna make you feel good. Physically and mentally.” He turned to lay open-mouthed kisses against your thighs, and any thought of response you may have had dissolved completely as you leaned back and waited for him to do his magic. His hand reached up to cup your heat, just feeling you against his palm for a moment before swiping a long finger through your fold, smiling and raising his eyebrows at you. “Oh? Already so wet for me?”
“Always, baby. You should know this by now.”
“Yeah?” He dipped his fingers at your opening teasingly and his head dipped down to connect his lips with your clit, kissing it gently and watching you squirm. “Ugh, I could fuck you right now if I was in a rush. But you know the foreplay is my favorite part.”
“I know. And you’re so good.”
“Good.”
He went silent then, his tongue wide and wet, licking a long stripe along your slick and gathering the wetness at your clit, giving it soft, kitten licks and wet kisses. He listened intently for every soft sigh that left your lips- music to his ears- and felt every tug on his hair when he flicked his tongue in small circles around that spot like he knew you loved. And the best part was that he knew. You didn’t understand how couples could get tired of each other after years. You didn’t understand how the excitement could flicker away or how they could get tired of each other’s bodies or minds. Never in your relationship with Mat have you felt as excited as now, two years in. The thought that he knew your body inside and out, maybe even better than you did, was just so overwhelming in the best possible way, and the longer you lay there, with Mat’s mouth on you, you couldn’t stop thinking that this is your man.
Mat was lying flat against the long couch, his face between your thighs and his hands holding your legs open for him. His dark hair was a wild mess, and you could see the gentle movements of his lower back and ass and the back of his thighs illuminated golden in the lights, rolling lazily against the couch cushion- covered by a blanket, of course- to provide any friction for his sadly untouched cock.
You hadn’t even noticed the noises dripping from your lips until Mat pulled back, and the lack of feeling his mouth against your core had you whining for him.
“Fuck, I’ll never get over you.”
“Mmmmat.” You hummed his name, dragging out the “M” in the way you knew he loved.
“Yeah, baby?”
“Please keep touching me.”
He sat up, between your thighs, knees digging into the couch, and his bare thighs and torso on display for you. You loved him, all of him, and all of his body. His legs, his abdomen, his chest, his arms… all of it was amazing. Perfect to look at and perfect to touch, to grab, to dig your nails into as he railed you. To ground yourself with. “Baby, you know I love eating you out. But I just gotta see you right now. And talk to you.” His big hand slid up the inside of your thigh, and your breath caught in your throat when he started rubbing soft, small circles against your clit. “So this position will have to do, okay? I promise I’ll spend all day before our flight eating your pussy.”
“I’ll remember that.”
“I hope so. God, this fucking thing. Could eat it for days.” He pushed a single finger inside you, slow and steady, but enough to make you clench around him. His fingers were so much better than yours, just a little longer and a little thicker in a way that had you squirming for more. “So fucking tight and wet. So hot. I’m so lucky to have you.” His free hand left your hip, leaving nothing but cold, empty fingerprints on your skin, and rubbed against the bulge in his dark boxers. You could see how much he was aching, and you were determined to make it better.
“Mat, c’mere.”
“I’m knuckles deep in your pussy, babe, how much closer do you want me?” You laughed at him, rolling your hip down against said finger. How he could be so funny and sexy at the same time was beyond you.
“Lie down with me. I wanna touch you.” You held your arms out for him and scooted to the side, and he obliged quickly, lying on his side between you and the back of the couch and hooking your left leg over his right thigh. His hand dipped back down between your thighs, pressing into you before you could even catch your breath, feeling exhilarated at the much more intimate position. “Oh, fuck, Mat.” You reached out to him, willing and eager to reciprocate the feeling. He drew in a sharp breath at the way your hand rubbed over the thick bulge in his boxers, pulling the waistband down just enough to release him from his cotton prison.
His cock jumped up against his lower belly, stiff and pink and needy for you and only you. Your hand, your mouth, and you could tell by the way Mat’s fingers paused inside you that he was anticipating the moment your fingers wrapped around his length. “Oh, that feels so good. Always does, baby.” And then, as you worked your hand against him, he pumped his long fingers inside you, bringing his other thumb to rub mercilessly at your clit. But still, even with the way he was fucking you on his hand, the most intense part of this moment was the way he held your gaze; the lust, the need, the twinkle of amusement in his hazel eyes at the sheer amazement that he got to do this with you; and the love- the pure, unadulterated love that soaked from his skin to yours, in every touch, in ever moment spent together, every kiss, and every time you laid together, bare and vulnerable, in the heat of passion, under the twinkling lights or in the dark, safe haven of your home to show each other how much you loved each other. His warm eyes glittered in the light, reflecting the gold and green and red lights from the Christmas tree that illuminated the room, and the city lights outside the window of your apartment lit up his body and highlighted every muscle. Your apartment, the one you own together, and the one you knew you were going to make countless memories in. His eyes glittered with love, with the question of “can you believe we still make each other feel so good?” and with the statement “I want to kiss you so bad right now”. Your hand pumped his length, pulling a soft moan from his lips, one that you had used to have to work so hard to hear. “I want to hear you, baby” You had used to say, practically begging him to let himself go as he bit his lip to hold back the moans. It had taken a bit of encouragement, but now he never held back with the sounds that left his pretty mouth. You lay there, vulnerable and exposed to each other, staring into each other’s eyes as with hands between each other's thighs, cheeks pink and hearts full of love as you helped each other climb to that climax.
You broke eye contact first, laughing breathlessly and feeling your cheeks go hot under his gaze. Despite the lack of shame you felt in front of him, he could still get you so flustered and giggly.
“What’s so funny, beautiful?” He asked between shaky breaths.
“You’re so beautiful, Mat. Those moans are so pretty. I can’t believe it.”
“Yeah?” He smiled with another laugh. “I can feel how wet you are. It’s crazy.” He slipped the tip of a third finger into you, your hole aching and pulsing around them already. “Oh, fuck, I love your moans too.” And you could tell he did, as his hips jerked helplessly up into your hand. “Faster, baby.”
“Only if you kiss me.”
Without hesitation, he leaned over and his lips locked onto yours, needy and begging but oh, so willing to go slow and passionate. The hand that had been teasing your clit came up to grab at you face, squeezing a tit on the way up, and you reached a free hand out to tangle in his dark hair as you leaned in and continued to jerk him in your hand- up and down, and up and down, twisting around the head just like he liked. “I love you.” He whispered against your lips, breaking apart for only a moment to look down at you one more time in awe. “I love you so fucking much.”
“I love you, Mat.”
“Fuck, I love you.” His lips crashed back against yours again, his fingers plunging deeper inside you as he kissed his promise into your lips, the promise that he was there and he’d always be there. He was yours. And you were his. Simply that. The heel of his palm rubbed against your clit as he curled his fingers inside of you, hitting that wonderful spot and making fireworks twinkle behind your eyes. He groaned into your mouth as your hand curved over the head of his cock, palms getting slick with his pre-cum, and stroked back down to cup his balls gently. He let out a breathy laugh at the tender feeling.
“Baby, look at me.” You cupped his cheeks between your hands and pulled him back when you began to feel your peak rising. He whined when your hand left his cock, aching and hard, and his fingers halted inside of you, cupping his palm against your heat.
“Oh, baby,” His eyes locked on you, making a show of how they were scanning up and down your body. “I’m looking.”
“I need you inside, right now.”
His bottom lip was sucked between his teeth and his eyes nearly rolled back in his head at the words. Even after so long, he still couldn’t handle hearing those words. His eyes fluttered shut. “Fuck, say less.” He rolled over you to sit upright on the couch, finally pushing his boxers all the way down his thighs and onto the floor. He gripped his cock in his hands and slid between your thighs, bending down over you to kiss your lips. “How do you want it?”
“Just like this.” Your hands fell to his hips and pulled him close.
“Yeah?”
“Wanna see your face. Maybe it’s basic, but I love this position.”
“Yeah. It’s simple, but so intimate. I like it too.” He paused and leaned back for a moment, looking down at his sweatpants on the floor for something. “Shit, ugh, I don’t have a condom here, hold on-”
“No, no, no.” Before Mat could run off to the bedside drawer, you grabbed his hands in yours, pulling him back to you. His eyes went soft and cautious for a few moments.
“No? Babe, shouldn’t we…”
“We’ve had conversations about this, right? About doing it without?” Mat nodded, a little smile beginning to pull on his lips. “I’m still on the pill, and I know I remembered to take all of them recently, so we’re still pretty safe, if you want.”
“Fuck, I want.” He settled back down between your knees. “Are you sure?”
“A hundred percent.”
“Alright.” Mat chuckled in boyish excitement. He reached a hand down between your bodies to adjust himself, nudging the blunt head of his cock against your clit and rubbing his pre-cum along your slit, lining up with your tight entrance and sending sparks through your body. “God, my God, I can’t wait to come inside you. Feel you around me completely. See my cum on you.” One last time, he bent his body down over yours, his weight warm and heavy, the metal of his chain cool between your chests, and pressed his mouth to yours, breathing in your warmth. One of your hands curled around his waist, slid to the small of his back, just like he always did to you, and the other cupped the back of his neck, fingers curling into the hairs and playing with the chain around his neck and pulling him in closer to your face. He broke away slightly with a sigh against your lips, his forehead bumping against yours and his nose nudging yours in a familiar gesture. He didn’t need to say the words anymore, because his quiet affections were ones that you’ve known for a long time.
His question was loud and clear, and your answer was just as obvious.
Mat brought a forearm down next to your head to steady himself, stroking the pad of his thumb against your warm cheek as his hips finally pushed against yours. Hands tightened their grips on each other’s bodies, sliding across hot skin slicked with sweat, and a euphony of moans mingled together in the air at the initial feeling of finally being connected in such a primal way again. His hips were flush against your own, and the weight of his thick cock inside of you was heavy and intoxicating; you could feel his tight abdomen expanding and contracting with every heavy breath and shudder through his body. He let out a long string of moans, his head dipping down to nibble at your throat, and fuck, did you know what he meant. You were connected, everywhere- heart, skin, and mind. “Fuck, oh my God, baby, hot as ever.”
“Oh, Maty…”
“I’m gonna give you so much love, beautiful.”
“Please.”
The first withdrawal of his hips from yours was painstakingly slow, and all you wanted was for him to plunge back in again and again and again. And he intended to do that, in time. Mat loved to take his time, but it didn’t take him long to fulfill his promise, sliding back against you, his cock hard and aching inside your wet cunt. He found a steady, easy pace rolling his hips into yours, each stroke like electricity through your body, long and languid, taking his time to draw your pleasure out, taking the time to feel your body around him. His knee dug into the couch hard, steadying himself and getting more traction so he could pull closer to your body, snapping his hips against yours with slaps that had you both gasping for air.
“Oh fuck…”
“Feels so good, Mat.”
“You’re fucking amazing.” He let out another high-pitched whine and arched your leg over his hip. “More?”
“More, faster, please baby.”
His hips slapped against yours with a groan, his big hands holding behind your knees and opening you wide for him. He leaned back to take a good look at you, at the scene in front of him, trying to take in every image he possibly could. Because these were the best moments. Not only the sex- god, but the sex was good- but just being together, being close, being intimate and so so close, yet only craving to become closer and closer. “God, you’re so hot, babe. So tight, so wet, all for me, right?” When you couldn’t answer, too overwhelmed with the way he was pounding against you, he took it as a sign to keep running his mouth. God, you loved to listen to him talk. “So wet, all for me. Getting all turned on over this big cock inside you, yeah?” You nodded your head enthusiastically, pulling his body closer to yours. He followed without hesitation, down and down until your bodies were glued together and he was just pushing against you, his hips driving yours into the couch cushions. “All fucked up for my cock, are you? Fucking beautiful.”
“It’s so good, Maty, baby, so big, fills me up so good.”
“I love you. I love you, (Y/N).”
“Oh my God, Maty, I love you.”
His mouth locked onto yours, sealing your lips together and swallowing your moans down. Dark locks of his hair shielded your face and tickled your cheeks, and as soon as he inched away to take a deep, shaky breath, your eyes opened up. He steadied himself on strong arms, framing your face, his veins prominent, and you curled a small hand as far around his thick bicep as you could, watching in awe as his head jerked back, throwing his long hair off his forehead and squeezing his eyes shut as he concentrated on pounding against your dripping cunt.
Slowly, his body peeled back off of yours, away, away, and he brought himself up to his knees in front of you. You let your eyes roll slip the long length of his torso, decorated with glittering reflections of gold and red and green, shining off the sheen of his sweat, and you looked from his thick neck, covered in your love-bites, down his chest, down the hard muscles of his abdomen and tummy, and down the V of his hips to the small patch of prickles that rubbed against your clit with every thrust. His thighs were spread open with your legs wrapped ever so gently around his hips, and his cock was stilled, aching inside of you. He shifted around on the couch momentarily, readjusting his knees on the cushions. “Ya know, we’d be a lot more comfortable in our bed than out here.”
“But it’s so pretty out here. All the pretty twinkly lights on you…”
“On me?” He laughed, “Look at yourself, babe. I’m fucking lucky.”
His big hands traced down your cheeks, squeezed down your chest, curled down the curve of your waist and hips, before finally wrapping around the backs of your thighs and pulling you closer, hoisting your legs up, up, and over his shoulders and spreading you wide open in front of him.
“Ooh, Mat…” You giggled a bit as he easily positioned you in the way he wanted, smirking down at you wickedly and rubbing his thumbs up and down the wet slick of your pussy.
“Gonna make you fuckin’ come, babe, my god… you want that?”
“Yeah, yeah, please, Maty.”
“Just a little bit longer, ‘kay?” He rolled his hips against yours again, starting up that steady pace again. His hands held your thighs open, lifting your legs up the length of his torso and locking them over his shoulders, and he never failed to make you seem tiny compared to him. You watched, mesmerized, as his abdomen tensed and hardened and spasmed as he tried to keep himself under control.
“Please.”
“Little… longer.”
With one more low moan, your boyfriend bent closer to you, his chain dangling in your face tauntingly as he got back to pounding away at you, heavy balls slapping against your ass with every erratic movement, his thrusts getting sloppier and sloppier and his breaths getting deeper. He was so goddamn close to that edge. He could tell you were getting there, too. You’d been on the edge ever since he started pounding you, but now, you were only a few feather light touches away from falling over that edge. And Mat was ready for it, he could barely hold his own seems together, he could barely think about anything except how rock hard he was and how your tits were bouncing so perfectly in rhythm with his hips, the way your eyes were rolling back and the way his cock felt inside you, fully covered in your slick, both your lower halves sticky messes. He was ready to fall apart completely, and ready to help you reach your own. “You look so fucking good taking my dick like this, babygirl. It’s so big, isn’t it? But you just take it so good, yeah? My good, good girl with her perfect fucking pussy, taking that cock so well.” He reached his fingers down to roll his thumb lazily against your clit, ever so gently, but enough to make you fall apart. Your eyes rolled back as you gasped out for him.
“Please, M- Maaaat…”
“Oh, you- you want it, don’t you?” Mat’s words were getting shaky, his sentences choppy. He was so close, so close his mind couldn’t comprehend anything beyond just fucking letting go. “Want your boyfriend’s hot cum filling you up, just flooding that- ugh, that tight little cunt, yeah? My balls emptied inside you? You want that nut so bad, you’re so desperate for it, huh? Tell me, baby. Tell me how you want the love of your life to just… fucking f- flood your pussy.”
“I want it, Mat, I want you to cum, baby.”
His thrusts became erratic, his hand leaving bruises on your thigh and his thumb absolutely torturing your swollen, sensitive clit. He was getting desperate, too. “Where? Where do you want my big fucking load?”
“Cum inside, fuck, fuck, please, Maty-”
“Ohh, gonna fucking nut inside you, babygirl-”
“I’m gonna cuuuum, Mat…”
“Ohhhh, fuuuuuck, oh, oh (Y/N)...!” Mat let out a long, strangled moan, his voice shaking and whiny and breathless in exasperation. His hips stuttered and his thighs trembled beneath him as he nearly collapsed onto you, absolutely flooding your aching, spasming hole with his cum. Your mind went fuzzy and white when you finally felt his stitches come loose, and he finally emptied all of himself- all his hot, gooey warmth- inside of your throbbing cunt. And flood, he did. It felt like the thick ropes of cum were never ending, filling you to the brim, until finally, he was done, his eyes squeezed shut and hair falling into his eyes above you.
Forming sentences would be a miracle at this point, but you reached up to curl a finger around Mat’s chain and yank him down to your face, ushering him to collapse against your body. And he did, eyes glancing open for a moment and lips locking with yours, always thankful to be able to fall onto you after a hard day, after absolutely spending himself. He groaned against your lips and buried his face against your neck, panting against your skin and kissing your neck and breathing in your scent as your hand found it’s rightful place at the back of his neck. After a few moments of stillness, he reached down lazily and let his cock slip out of you, both of you whining and the loss of contact, and you felt a familiar wetness on your tummy as his cum dribbled down the head of his spent cock to fall on your warm skin.
You were silent, panting for a few minutes, just letting your heartbeats steady back to normal and your heads to recover from the dizzying orgasms. Then, a breathless chuckle vibrated through Mat’s chest and into you. “Merry fucking Christmas to us, right?”
“I think that was the hottest thing we’ve ever done, Mat.” Mat hummed in agreement, squeezing you between his arms. “Now you see why we couldn’t do this at your parent’s place?”
“I mean… what’s stopping us?”
“Mat, I know for a fact you can’t keep quiet enough to fuck in your parent’s house.”
“Says the one who was just screaming my name.”
“As if you weren’t moaning mine just as loud.”
“Hmm.” Mat laughed again at the banter, the playful back and forth, and rolled to the side, his back to the back of the couch, and pulled you against his side. “How do you feel, anyway? About… me coming inside? Still feel good about it? Wasn’t too much?”
“No way. I really… really enjoyed that. Everything about that. A lot.”
“Mm, that’s good. So did I.”
“But… I kiiiiiinda feel like we should clean up. It’s starting to feel… sticky, like, everywhere. And not a good sticky.”
“Yeah, how about we take a bath together? A nice warm bath in the lights of the pretty Christmas lights you love so much? How’s that sound?”
“Sounds like heaven, Mat.”
So Mat scooped you up in his arms, his own legs weak and shaky after an unbelievable orgasm, and he pressed kisses against your cheeks as he carried you through your brand new home, lit in the pretty pinks and gold of the Christmas lights, stopping before the bathroom door only momentarily to ponder on the beginning of the rest of his forever with you. This truly might be the beginning of the best years of his life. The beginning of an even more serious relationship with you. He felt your fingers playing with the chain that still hung around his neck, the one the guys teased him about the charm on the end, but the one he always wore for you, and he glanced down, his eyes warm and contemplative as he searched yours. This. This was eternal love.
“I love you, babe. Always.” His heart felt dipped in syrup when you smiled up at him with that soul melting look. Yep. You’re it for me.
“I love you, bubs. Always.”
aurora glow | thrawn x f!reader — part one
An alien ship lands on Earth after electrical failure. You have been surviving alone, the planet being struck by an EMP-like solar flare years prior. What happens when you meet the inhabitants of this ship on your travels?
warnings: violence, explicit language, canon divergence
rating: T
a/n: Thrawn probably is and will be OOC during this series. also, as the story progresses i’m definitely bound to get things wrong and probably accidentally add something that’s actually from star trek (so apologies!) loosely inspired by the Voyager episode ‘Gravity’ and a book I recently finished!
You saw the crash before you heard the explosion.
It had been a long time since something had lit up the sky that wasn’t the moon, sun or auroras. You weren’t very far away from the crash site, you could tell. Although, admittedly, you were still bad at measuring distances. It was on your way southbound anyways - as it was fall, and winter and the first snow would be fast approaching.
You arms tightened around the smooth handle of your walking stick, one of your favorite found items. You preferred to think of them in this manner, rather than “looting” or “stealing”. Could they even be considered that if their owner was no longer there to use them? You didn’t think so, at least.
It took twenty minutes before you were close enough to see the smoke rising out of the giant space... ship. You felt a shudder rip through your body. You know exactly what you saw but it was still a concept you had to wrap your brain around. Believing for nearly your whole life that out there, somewhere, other life had to exist... and actually seeing it with your own eyes were two different things.
You instinctually began walking lower to the ground, closer to the shrubbery and trees, checking your hip for the well hidden, small 9mm you kept on you at all times. You knew you had few bullets left and would not use it unless you really needed to. There was a knife in the inside of your boot that you would try to use instead but only if the situation called for it.
You could make out many white, helmeted figures from here. At least, you assumed that was armor and not their actual bodies. There was also one, deep, calm voice alongside a fair amount of shouting that you couldn’t quite see. You walked in a semi circle, closer to the voices. There was a lot of brush, thankfully, that you could hide yourself in.
When you were close enough to see the event that was unfolding, you instinctively held your breath. There was the spaceship, in all her glory, smoking and partially buried in the ground. You were surprised there wasn’t more outward and obvious damage, but you weren’t sure of the full extent of the electrical failure or how far from the planet it had reach. Many of those white figures were scattered around, holding some sort of weapon in the direction of the action.
The shouting figures, which were now only a few feet from you, were holding weapons you recognized. Even with their backs fully or partially turned from you, you could tell that the three of them were human. Two men, who had their weapons pointed towards select armored white aliens, and one woman. She had a short-barreled shotgun that was pointed at the tallest of the aliens.
His crimson eyes caught your attention first and you released your breath at the sight of them. They were dark, reminding you of the Red Delicious apples you had stored in your pack. His vibrant blue skin contrasted harshly against his eyes and his pitch colored hair and uniform. His hair was short and slicked back but a few strands were hanging over his face. He seemed humanoid apart from his angular face, but even with that, if he wasn’t blue he might actually pass for human.
You realized the woman wasn’t shouting at him, but the uniformed men around him. Their weapons were pointed at the three humans but they were taking no action.
“We want all the food and supplies out of that ship, now!” she shouted. “If we don’t get it in five minutes, I’ll take big blue here down!”
You were close enough to see the jaw in the tall blue alien’s mouth tighten. He pinched his lips together tightly before responding in a cool, calm voice. “As I have already stated, my men will not respond to your demands. Neither will I, for that matter.”
The woman began shouting again. You bit your lip and wondered if you had gone mad for what you were considering doing. You didn’t even give yourself time to think if this was the smart move before you picked up the palm-sized rock that was on the ground beside you. There was a large, wooden warehouse on your right where one of the human men had been standing beside, weapon ready. You were about 30 feet away from it from your current position.
You wound your arm back and threw that rock with everything you had. It smashed through a wood panel, making a sharp cracking noise. All heads momentarily turned, except for the blue alien, who’s line of sight was now firmly focused in your direction. You had already taken off from the bushes, walking stick in hand, when you realized he was looking directly at you.
While everyone else’s attention was still focused on the dilapidated warehouse, you spun your walking stick behind your back and then quickly whipped it back in front of you, hitting the woman with the shotgun square in the head. Your walking stick shattered where it connected with her. She crashed into the ground with a bloodcurdling scream and you grabbed the shotgun she dropped. All eyes were now on you as you pointed it at her.
“Drop your weapons, you two,” you yelled, partially out of breath, eyes still focused on the woman on the ground. You poked her with the barrel of the gun. “Tell them,” you warned her.
She nodded her head and looked around at the two men. You heard the familiar crunch of grass as the two weapons were dropped, but your eyes were still focused on her. Then you heard the shrieks of the men and a sickening crunching sound that followed. Two of the white armored men now approached either side of you, weapons drawn. The blue alien was still silent, but he put his hand up towards his men. They lowered their weapons instantly.
He motioned for you to back up and you did just that. The two armored men flung their weapons behind their backs and went towards the woman on the ground. They restrained her before you finally drew your attention fully to the tall man in front of you. He had stepped closed to you now that you were hanging onto the shotgun with one loose hand, the barrel almost brushing against the grass.
He held a large, cerulean hand out to you. His eyes had seemed to lighten. “If I may,” he started, “it will take my men off edge.”
You nodded and passed the weapon over to him. He held it in both hands, studying it for a moment, before handing it to one of his men.
“Why did you betray your people?”
You looked from his hands back up to his eyes, your voice suddenly gone.
You bit your lip and looked around you, fully realizing the situation you had now put yourself in.
A handful of the armored men had restrained the three humans but the rest were looking at you and the alien. They still had their weapons drawn, and although they weren’t pointed in your direction, you knew that they easily could be.
“Th.. they weren’t my people,” you stammered, looking back into his vibrant eyes.
He tilted his head slightly. “Hmm.” He took his time, looking you up and down before doing the same to them. “They resemble you. Are you of a different race?”
“N.. no. I, uh,” you struggled on how to explain. You bit your lip again. “We are all humans, from this planet, yes. But I do not know them personally.”
Another hmm escaped his lips as you wondered how on this good earth you could even understand what he was saying to you. “I am still perplexed,” he admitted. “What would compel you to help me?”
You looked down at your feet after he asked you this. You honestly weren’t sure what surged through you in what had only happened moments earlier. You looked back up at him, directly in his eyes. “I’m not sure,” you answered honestly. “I have never seen an alien before and I didn’t want you to think we were all bad.”
His eyebrows scrunched together at your response, giving you what you could only describe as a quizzical look. It was as if he was trying to figure you out entirely by solely examining you. He took a step towards you.
“You have never met another who wasn’t from your own planet?”
You shook you head. “Before the blackout, it was a widely debated topic whether or not there was extraterrestrial life somewhere in space.”
He smiled at your response. “Well, I’m happy to inform you, there are many different life forms, spread across millions of light years.”
He watched your eyes light up at this statement. You couldn’t help but look up at the sky above you. You felt infinitesimally small in that moment.
“I am Thrawn, Captain of the Thunder Wasp.”
You looked back at him and gave your name.
“I am unsure of how your people greet one another, however it is a pleasure, nonetheless.”
You held you hand out towards him without thinking at his response. Some of his men tightened their grip on their weapons at your action and you flinched. He looked towards them and shook his head. He slowly mimicked your action, bringing his hand out but not quite touching you.
You grasped his hand, slow enough that he could pull back if he was uncomfortable. You looked in his eyes and smiled, slowly shaking his hand up and down. His hand was large, enveloping yours easily. He was incredibly warm to the touch. “Nice to meet you, Captain.”
He caught on to your action, bringing his hand up and down in a synchronous motion with you. When you both released your light grip, he smiled back at you. “Please, Thrawn is sufficient. I am not your commanding officer, but a visitor to your planet.”
After this interaction, Thrawn’s men separated, leaving the two of you to yourselves. There were still four guards with the other humans and only then did you bring your attention to them.
“Dirty bitch,” the woman spat at you and as soon as she did, one of the guards knocked her in the back of the head. A shudder ripped through your body after witnessing this.
Thrawn called out your name and you focused your attention back to him. “If I could borrow you a moment, I have some questions I would like to ask.”
You shook your head in affirmation. He turned on his heel, hands firmly clasped behind his back as he walked towards his ship. You left your walking stick on the ground as you followed behind him.
The ship was tilted sideways slightly, it’s nose buried in the ground while it’s backside was raised a little above. You approached the side of the ship, where two of his soldiers were standing in position beside a door.
At the Captain’s approach, they grasped what appeared to be suction cups on each individual door. The pulled and the door split open in the middle and Thrawn walked towards it, taking a large step up into the ship easily with his elongated legs. Upon realizing you would struggle a lot more to get in than he would, he bent down and reached a hand out towards you.
You didn’t hesitate as you put your hand into his and one foot on the floor of the ship. It was angled just above your waist and you could feel the stretch burn the back of your thigh. The sensation didn’t last long as Thrawn hoisted you into the ship, seemingly using little energy on his part. He dropped your hand as soon as you were steady and the doors were manually shut behind you.
The corridors were lit with dim red lights along the wall. Shadows bounced as you and Thrawn navigated through the ship. His skin looked almost iridescent in here.
You followed him through many different corridors until he paused in front of a door. He pulled a card out from somewhere in his uniform that he swiped against the panel next to the door and it slide open automatically. Same at the doors outside, just without someone manually pulling it apart.
You looked around as you followed behind him. You were in a large room that resembled an office and had another closed door leading to somewhere else along the wall. There were many different pieces of what you would describe as art scattered through the room along with a giant desk. It had two large, comfortable looking chairs settled on either side.
Thrawn pulled out the chair that had its back facing the door you had just entered, clearly made for whoever was visiting the owner of this desk, which you could only assume was the man in front of you himself. Once you had settled in the chair, which threatened to swallow you whole, Thrawn settled into the seat across from you.
He started by asking you what exactly you had meant by the ‘blackout’ you had mentioned earlier. You did your best to explain what little you knew of it, telling him that a few years prior the sun had sent out a solar flare strong enough to act as an EMP, effectively wiping out all electronics, everywhere, and sending humans back to the stone age. Thrawn listened to you intently, without interruptions as you did your best to work through what information you had gathered through the years. You ended your long explanation by telling him that approximately once every 30 days, another solar flare would hit the Earth for roughly 12 hours and restore most of the electronics during that time. You could tell it was approaching by the aurora that would brighten the sky the night before.
You both sat silently as Thrawn chewed through the information you had just given him. Finally, he simply said, “That explains some things.”
You waited patiently for his next question while he formulated it. You had trouble keeping your eyes off of him, but didn’t want to come off as rude, so you looked around the room every once in a while.
Thrawn called out your name softly while you were staring at a painting situated over his left shoulder. If it wasn’t eerily silent on the ship, you might not have heard it. You looked over at him. He was examining you as if you were that painting hung on the wall. Finally, after a minute that seemed like an hour, he asked what your plans were.
“Well, winter is fast approaching. I aim to keep heading south where it will be warm during the season.” You looked down at your feet. “I have found it best to keep migrating through the years. Staying in one place invites danger,” you practically whispered.
“Are you all alone?”
You held back the emotional outburst that threatened to rip through you at that question. You shook your head in confirmation.
“How long?”
You swallowed hard. “7, maybe 8 seasons.”
You could feel Thrawn’s pity even if you weren’t looking at him, even though if you had looked at him you would have only outwardly seen stoicism.
“When do you expect the next flare to hit?” he asked you after a few silent moments.
You looked up at him for the first time in a while. His red eyes were soft, the color nearly washed out compared to the first time you saw him. He had folded his hands on top of his desk and was hunched over — or what a military man like him probably considered hunched over. His back was still pretty stick straight.
You pondered his question. “If I had to guess, 10... maybe 12 days. I don’t keep track very well anymore and sometimes it doesn’t follow an exact pattern. But it always happens, eventually.”
Thrawn nodded. “Would you be willing to stay with us while we repair the ship?”
Your mouth fell open. Sensing your confusion he added, “You are the only one who knows this planet, we could use your expertise.”
You bit your lip so hard you tasted metal.
Thrawn continued, voice near a whisper. “I will take you off this dying planet in return.”
His transition from ‘us’ to ‘I’ didn’t go unnoticed by you. You still sat there, silently processing his question.
You took a sharp breath in and let it out shakily. Tears prickled at your eyes.
How could you leave the only home you had ever known, if Thrawn and his men could even get their ship working again in the first place?
How could you survive out there, in space? A place you didn’t know... none of your people really knew, where you didn’t belong.
Where would you go? What would you do?
But you had no one and nothing left here.
You gave him your answer and you could have swore you saw the corners of his mouth twitch upwards in response.
This is a part of the Not A Phase Collab hosted by @suhdays - Inspired by the song Ocean Avenue by Yellowcard
Release Date: By Monday May 31st, 2021
It’s just past midnight as Jin pulls into his mom’s driveway, softly closing every door of his car as he gets out and retrieves his suitcase from the trunk. He turns slowly, taking in the stillness and quiet of the street he grew up on, stopping the moment his eyes fall on your house across the road. Not much has changed about your house, save for the vacancy of your car. Your typical parking spot in your parent’s driveway is empty, leaving Jin to wonder if you’re not home or if your father finally cleaned out the other half of the garage, allowing you to park inside.
From the faint illuminance of the street lights, he’s able to see the hibiscus bushes that line the outside of your home. The flowers not yet in bloom due to the time of year. His eyes shift over to the cherry blossom tree at the corner of your yard, sight trailing up its growth until his gaze ends at the highest point. The top of the tree still reaches just above your bedroom window on the second floor. Jin’s lips twitch up into a smile as a memory surfaces in his mind.
6 years earlier
“It was intentional. I’m telling you!” You rant, pouting as you stab your spoon into the cup of ice cream in Jin’s hand.
You’re sitting next to each other outside of the local ice cream shop, sharing two big scoops of chocolate and strawberry that had cost Jin the last of his weekly allowance. You had begged him to take you out for a treat, having just endured one of the most awkward conversations with your parents, promising him that he could choose the flavor as a form of sweet talk to get him to agree. He ended up getting a scoop each of both you and his favorites, his heart fluttering at the sight of your bright smile when he joined you outside on the park bench. The moment Jin handed you a spoon, you immediately dived in, a mixture of the two flavors disappearing into your mouth in a flash. A subtle hum of satisfaction slips past your lips from the taste. Jin shakes his head as he smiles, dipping his own spoon in for a scoop. “Chocolate and Strawberry is a match made in heaven. Two favors that go together perfectly. Like best friends, just like us,” you would say each time Jin asked you about your favorite indulgence.
You remove the spoon from your mouth, waving it around in the air as you share with Jin the scarring conversation with your parents that led to this impromptu outing. They finally decided it was time you had ‘the talk.’ If the topic at hand wasn’t bad enough, your dad even shared with you how he used to sneak out his childhood bedroom, your current bedroom, to meet up with your mom. Information that you stated you’d be better off never knowing.
“Did you know there used to be a big oak tree there? Branches so thick, dad brags about how easily they held his weight as he climbed down them,” you grumble. Jin’s eyes are on you, nodding along to your story as he listens. His attention is slightly distracted the moment he feels your hand cover his causing the both of you to hold the ice cream bowl together as you try to steady it, scooping up a generous portion of the treat with your spoon. The subtle touch redirects his mind from your words to his surroundings, suddenly aware of how closely you two were sitting next to each other on the bench.
It’s not unusual for the two of you to be this close to each other, having known one another since you were in diapers. But now at the age of 16, Jin can only blame it on teenage hormones. What else would explain his rise in blood pressure being this close to his best friend? Surely not the intoxicating scent of your perfume. The one he quickly recognizes as the very brand he got you for your birthday last year. Nor the change in how you do your makeup, the natural tones and faux bare minimum style accentuating your facial features. Allowing your natural beauty to shine.
Jin observes as you bring the plastic utensil up to your mouth again, turning the spoon upside down at the last second before placing it on your tongue, your glossed, plush lips closing before pulling the now clean spoon from between them. He watches as the tip of your tongue peeks out, swiping at a rogue drop of melted chocolate ice cream on your bottom lip and he’s momentarily mesmerized. Lost in wonderment at how his favorite flavor would taste from your lips. He’s brought back to reality from a painful thump on his forehead, the result from where you flicked him with your fingers.
“Yah! Are you even listening?” you scold him, doing a terrible job at stifling your giggle from the pout that forms on Jin’s lips as he rubs his wound. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“What’s the big deal? I thought you liked the Cherry Blossom tree,” Jin asks, ears turning red as he looks away from you. Scooping a hefty amount of ice cream into his own mouth to avoid answering the second part of your question. You roll your eyes at him and continue in your rant. Jin quietly lets out a small sigh of relief at you letting his obvious avoidance go.
“I did like it. LOVED it even. My dad said he had the old oak tree removed and the new tree planted shortly after learning I was going to be a girl. But now I just see it as a traitor tree. With branches not thick enough to let me sneak out.” You’re back to pouting, Jin catching the down turn of your lips from his peripherals. How badly he wants to kiss that frown away, the sudden urge to see you smile filling his thoughts.
He hadn’t realized he turned towards you, fully facing you with his spoon in his mouth until you were speaking to him through a fit of giggles, the sound of your amusement like music to his ears. “What are you thinking about, Jinnie?”
Jin is at a loss of words the moment his gaze meets yours. Your eyes full of genuine curiosity as you look up at him, a soft smile one your lips as you wait for him to answer. A slight breeze picks up, causing loose strands of your hair to blow into your face. On instinct, Jin reaches with his free hand, moving your hair back and tucking it behind your ear. Not missing your tiny gasp as your cheeks turn a soft pink from the intimate action. “Have you always been this beautiful?” he thinks to himself as he lets his fingers linger on your cheek. Unsure if it’s just wishful thinking, he swears your face is getting closer to his. Not able to tell if it was from him leaning in or you or both. The moment is suddenly broken by the sound of a car horn blaring from somewhere behind you, causing the two of you to jump slightly back from each other as Jin drops his hand from your face. Clearing his throat, Jin spoons another helping of ice cream into his mouth before passing the bowl towards you.
“Well,” he says, breaking the tension between you two as you take the ice cream from him, “Guess we’ll just have to think of another way for you to sneak out then.”
The smile you award him knocks the breath right out of lunges. The beauty of your happy expression being the most wonderful thing Jin has seen all day. A similar smile reactively graces his face, telling himself then and there that he wants to only ever make you look at him that way all the time.
A somber feeling takes over Jin as he brings himself out of his memory. Turning back towards his house, he walks up to the front door, quietly turning the key and going inside. Locking the door behind him, he carries his suitcase up the stairs, his head turned down the whole way to his old bedroom. He hadn’t kept his promise to himself, so easily breaking it only two years after making it. Entering his room, Jin drops his suitcase on the ground and closes his door. Falling onto his bed, he hopes that once he is able to find you, you will grant him the mercy and honor for him to redeem himself. Allowing him to see that beautiful smile once again.
