Ha Ha Ho? Stadium Ban
Hang it all: an ex-ultra is Hertha’s new president!!! Will Kay Bernstein enact a Pyro-requirement in Olympiastadion? Will Dietmar Hopp be banned from Berlin? We answer all the most pressing questions relating to Bernstein here.
(a very goofy article from 11Freunde’s Max Dinkelaker and translated by yours truly. It pokes fun at questions one Bild journalist posed because of Bernstein’s former ultra connections. Said journalist seemed to have no regard for anything Bernstein has actually said during his campaign and implied him being elected would be “dangerous” for the whole league.)
Tumblr media
The blue danger: Kay Bernstein has reached the top!
How dangerous is Kay Bernstein? For Hertha, for the Bundesliga, for Germany? Since yesterday it is clear: the former Vorsänger (person who leads chants at games) of the Berlin Ultra group “Harlekins 98” is the new president of the Bundesliga team. This selection poses many questions and the most important were posed by Walter M. Straten from Bild, with all appropriate restraint. 11Freunde conducted intensive research to find the answers.
Walter M. Straten asks: “Will he make Pyro legal and turn Olympic Stadium into a flaming hot pot?”
11Freunde knows it won’t stop at that. According to the editor’s exclusive information, Bernstein will issue various requirements for the most loyal fans of the old lady concerning future stadium visits, as soon as the first email to Hertha members. For example, starting next season there will be mandatory pyro, with every hertha fan required at minimum to fire one Bengal Firework for every half. What is especially treasonous is that children are allegedly not exempt from these rules. The only exception: whoever tattoos “Scheiß DFB” in big letters across their stomach has to only light one off every other home game. Hertha-Insider Volker Rauch (a name that is a play on words in German i don’t get lol), who spoke with 11freunde exclusively and extensively, knows about additional new rules to follow:
1. Whoever can’t prove that they have any Pyro torches to the ticket control will be shoved into specially prepared tiny hiding places* by security.
2. Otherwise, the primary job of ticket personnel for the new season will be to check whether the fans have smeared at least 50 milliliters of blood on their faces before the game as part of satanic rituals, per Bernstein’s request. Anyone who has too little or no blood on their face at all, must wear a balaclava.
3. Furthermore, there will be a minimum blood alcohol content for stadium goers. Anyone caught with less than 1%, will get knocked out.
4. Whoever drinks liquor instead of beer, must make sure that it is exactly 50+1 percent alcohol.
5. Apropos Alcohol: starting in August conventional cups will not be used and will be replaced in favor of Skull Jugs, custom built from the skulls of the slayed opposing Ultras.
6. Whoever maneuvers a scarf, flag, or jersey from rival fans will receive a lifelong stadium ban.
7. Media representatives, who say Ha Ha Ho instead of Ha Ho He (this actually happened lol) will lose their accreditation for at least one season.
8. Media representatives, that call the so-called “so-called fans” “so-called fans” one more time, will be personally delivered to a stadium guard by Bernstein where they will be forced to watch all the episodes of “My story - the life of...” with Riccardo Basile (i’m not sure the context behind this guy - do tell me if you know!).
Walter M. Straten asks: “Will the people (like Dietmar Hopp) or clubs (like RB Leipzig) hated by the Ultras be insulted and ridiculed with his [Bernstein’s] blessing?”
With this question, 11Freunde has more shocking information to present. Only people who can prove that they insulted Dietmar Hopp numerous times, can get a season ticket for the 2022/2023 season. Fan can upload evidence of this (in the form of screenshots or links to Facebook comments or tweets), on the club’s website until the end of July. Important to note: elementary school insults like “egghead” and “idiot” are not enough. Worse explicit and criminally relevant insults are required, ideally against the the parents of the Hoffenheim investor. All the same, Bernstein will try to reach out to people who have not played a part in these insults and mockery. During the summer break, there will be various workshops with seminars like “Crosshair Drawing For Dummies” or “Mockery Record Keeping 1: This Is How I Keep Track of my insults.” Whoever has a participation certificate to show for it at the the start of the season, is allowed to get a season ticket, even without the participation in the years long of Hopp-Ultra feud. A tip for the noble fan Frank Steffel: showing up at the workshops but only being on your phone doesn’t count as successful participation (he went to an in-person questions/answer session with Bernstein but was on his phone the whole time)
As far as the fight against RB Leipzig goes, the situation is clear: whoever is caught with a can on Red Bull at or around the stadium, will be driven through the streets of Westend (where Hertha’s current stadium is) by other Hertha fans with pitchforks and torches. Bernstein will arrange the correlating change to the club’s rules as soon as possible. Other than that, there will be a Kampl (player for RB) “Palm Tree” hair style ban starting in August for all visitors to Olympic Stadium.
Walter M. Straten asks: Will he ultimately scare away the unpopular 375 million Investor Windhorst?
Despite the fact that Bernstein stressed that he would sit at a table with Lars Windhorst many times during the election, and even re-emphasized it afterwards (“We will try to involve him in the best possible way and achieve our goals with him.”) 11Freunde knows better: It was merely lip service up until now. Actually, Bernstein would like to start the next public mudslinging as soon as possible so as not to get any fresh money from Windhorst and Hertha will have its back financially against the wall. Then the club will experience an extremely complicated sporting season and Bernstein himself immediately comes under pressure. Hm... Well uh.... Hm. Anyway, to effective provoke Windhorst, Bernstein plans to wear a Gegenbauer mask during the first talks with the investor. If the meeting is virtual, he will try this using deep fakes. According to 11Freunde information, he is already in contact with Berlin’s mayor Franziska Giffey, who is deemed an expert in this area, for tips on undertaking this endeavor. An especially bold part of his plan is that Bernstein will not kiss Windhorst’s ring during the first private audience that he is granted. Bernstein does not want to proceed with the courtly love song as of right now. What is absolutely clear: trouble is inevitable.
11Freunde’s Conclusion:
Hard times are coming to Germany. Should Berlin’s example catch on, the leagues stadium’s will become lawless places. Our recommendation for Walter M. Straten and other fans with integrity: emigrate today rather than tomorrow!

Traversing the Verdi Canon #28: Messa da Requiem and Quattro pezzi sacri
Recordings:
Messa da Requiem: this 1981 Munich performance with the almost-unbeatable team of Jessye Norman, Agnes Baltsa, José Carreras, Evgeny Nesterenko, and Riccardo Muti on the podium
Quattro pezzi sacri: this Wiener Philharmoniker recording with Claudio Abbado on the podium and Cheryl Studer
Experience: ...I’m about to single-handedly disappoint pretty much everyone.
I’ve never listened to either of these in full.
“You’ve never listened to the whole Verdi Requiem?!” you ask, aghast. (The Quattro pezzi sacri are much less well-known and therefore perfectly acceptable for being obscure.)
Yeah, I just...never got around to ever listening to the full thing. Excerpts, yes, the whole thing no. anyway, that is my secret Verdian shame being rectified specially for this series. please tolerate my incoherent quasi-liveblog of the piece below.
Messa da Requiem: okay, starting it now and wow this opening is beautiful. I am living for this drama. I’m also working on French homework, which may be a bad idea, but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. I mean, this sounds like it could be in a Verdi opera if you close your eyes and don’t think about the words too much. oh hey, we’re at the Dies irae—iconic. alright these low strings are super freaking cool. YES JESSYE NORMAN YOU SING IT YOU ICON. this is a lovely trio right here and yet again I adore a good bassoon solo. so I’m reading about this on Wikipedia and apparently a lot of people didn’t like this piece because they thought it was too operatic for the work at hand, to which I say “fuck you I love this”. OH SHIT THAT EXPLOSION RIGHT THERE CAME OUT OF NOWHERE. this is a gorg duet. okay this tenor aria is one I’ve heard before and it’s even better “in context” as it were. this part sounds like it could be right at home in Don Carlo or Simon Boccanegra. oh hey the Dies irae is back! this quartet is *chef’s kiss*; worthy use of the music from Don Carlo. we’re on to Part III now—this is marvelous. oh this melody is incredible!!! this instrumental part here sounds like it’s ripped from Simon Boccanegra. oh I’ve heard this Sanctus and it BOPS. ooh this is pretty. like, INCREDIBLY PRETTY. so is this Lux aeterna. alright time to get my heart ripped out from me yet again by the Libera me. and as expected, Jessye Norman is utterly slaying me. anyway, I am slain. where has this been my whole life???
Quattro pezzi sacri: okay this Ave Maria is gorg. apparently Verdi was inspired to write it because of a scale published in a music magazine, which shows that Verdi never lost his taste for new ideas...who knows what his work would be like if he had kept opera-writing beyond 1893? also Verdi apparently made a joke about being beatified by the Pope on account of writing a lot of sacred music, which honestly raises a good question about why exactly Verdi wrote so much sacred music (and amazing sacred music, at that) as a nonreligious individual. maybe it was exactly like my thing where I’m not really religious per se but I am fascinated by the way religion and humanity intersect. but I digress. this is gorgeous and harmonically a lot of fun. alright time for the Stabat mater; perks up the ears right from the start. lots of big orchestral sounds and long, long string lines. the ending just sounds...ethereal, sublime. this Laudate is...enchanting, not sure how else to describe it. ooh, we’re starting this Te Deum with some actual Gregorian chant! OH BIG EXPLOSION RIGHT THERE OKAY GOTTA TURN MY VOLUME DOWN this sounds kinda like Boito or Tchaikovsky ngl and yet so quintessentially Verdian. oh wow this is so cool! there’s a real tension under the surface, almost a funeral march feel. big beautiful explosion! and finally we get the soprano solo! chorus comes back in...slow fade out...what. a. finish.
anyway the long and short of it is: why wasn’t this music in my life sooner? because I am a dumbass, that’s why, but here it is and here it will stay. what a master of sacred music Verdi was.

I was bored so I made a RetJ tier list
PLEASE keep in mind this is purely my opinion and I honestly love every single retj production and I fully support and respect everyone in the community! I'm just more close to some versions rather than others, and I'll briefly explain my "points" (more like I'm going to share positivity because they're all amazing)
Rómeó és Júlia and Romeo e Giulietta - ama e cambia il mondo are beyond God Tier to me, they occupy such a special place in my heart and I can't rate them objectively. I not only know the lyrics but also the choreography of both of them, and I literally cosplayed half of the Italian version cast. Romeo e Giulietta was the first production I've ever seen and I had the honor to see it live 2 times (in 2013 and in the recent 2018 new tour) and I think it's visually the best version. The costumes, the choreography, the colors, the ACOTRS FJFUGY, the background, everything in this version is just soo pleasing to my eyes. Also the lyrics are just so on point, and since italian is my first language I do understand and catch all the amazing language study behind the adaptations and it's soooOOOO GOOD. They have the best Benvolio (Riccardo owns my heart I'M SORRY) and the second best Mercutio (Luca is amazing and beautiful and so freaking talented). You're probably wondering who's the best Mercutio to me AND HERE STARTS MY RANT ABOUT ROMEO ES JULIA BECAUSE THE BEST QUALITY OF THIS VERSION IS THE ONE, THE ONLY, THE BEAUTIFUL, THE AMAZING BERECZKI ZOLTAN. The man literally owns my soul. I'm truly in love with him sorry not sorry please step on me you beautiful ginger boy. Also the dark aesthetic of the hungarian version is so freaking cool and unique, and the rearrangements of the songs are amazing. The actors are so talented and c U T e and I honestly can't live without the general atmosphere of this production. I can't choose between those two and I won't, they're so different (the Italian being so classy and elegant, while the hungarian is pure DANCE, HYPE, MOVEMENTS AND BERECZKI ZOLTAN) so yeah, god tier.
[big disclaimer idk what my keyboard did here but it's perfection* I know the lyrics by heart*] The original french version and the austrian version are perfect to me. The 2001 version is so elegant, classy, and yet so catchy, funny, original, and the actors generally are maybe the best ones esthetically and considering their voices. I don't have much to say, it's the ORIGINAL ONE everything started thanks to it so OF COURSE IT'S SPECIAL AND BEAUTIFUL and I know literally all the lyrics. As for the Austrian version IDK WHY IT'S SO SPECIAL TO ME since objectively I can't point any particular things I love but it's generally such a beautiful version and I always keep coming back to it. Good job, I know all the lyrics LMAO
I'm going to GO VERY FAST HERE BECAUSE TOO MANY PRODUCTIONS. The 2010 French version is SOO GOOD (also they have John Eyzen who is 200 points) but IN MY OPINION is not AS GOOD as the original one, so I had to put it here. But honestly, I think I re-watched it more than the original, but I tried to be objective on here. The takarazuka version is maybe too over the top for me sometimes BUT I LOVE IT JSHFHFHDH we stan the lesbian romeo and juliet and the shakesperean lyrics. Also the costumes are pure gold. The Korean version is very VERY similar to the french 2010 version but honestly I really love the actors soooo here. The Hebrew version is quite low cost but I really like it, they have probably my favorite Tybalt lmao (sorry Tom, sorry Gianluca, but he slayed it). I honestly love semplicity and elegance, so ironically the lowcost simple Hebrew version is one of my faves LMAO. The Toho version is AMAZING AND I STAN THE BENCUTIO MOMENTS they're whort everything and I'm so grateful that I had the possibility to see it thanks to a friend of mine who had the dvd. The Russian version holds a special place in my heart too since it's one of the very first ones and their mercutio is amazing + I saw an amazing thread about the gay subtext and I sTAN HERE.
From now on I added all the versions I couldn't see but I just listened to the cast recordings... So I couldn't really judge but I decided to include them too cuz I stan. They're generally very good both vocally and on the point of view of the adaptation and I really wish to actually see those one day (so please if you have a bootleg of those versions share those with me I'll give you all my love)
The only version I didn't really like (even though I only listened to the cast recordings). The audio is just so chaotic and I can't really judge the vocals because the musical adaptation is so b a d it confuses me... I still hope to have a decent English version one day to really spread the retj fandom around the world

The Last God #4
Tumblr media
The Last Gold #4 DC Black Label 2019 Created & Written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson Illustrated by Riccardo Federici Coloured by Sonny Gho Cartographer Jared Blando Lettered by Tom Napolitano     Beyond the edge of creation lies the Black Stair. And beyond it, amidst the void, he waits. Mol Uhltep, the Last God. This is the tale of those who claimed to slay him, and the world they doomed with their lies. With the wraith of King Tyr and Mol Uhltep hot on her trail, and the Last God’s foul curse worsening, Queen Cyanthe must rally her surviving allies within the walls of the Guild Eldritch’s newly restored stronghold, the Pinnacle, and convince them to join her on her quest to travel past the edge of creation once more and do what she could not 30 years ago: kill the Last God, Mol Uhltep, once and for all. In the past we watch as young Tyr and the first fellowship delve into the depths of the very same fortress 30 years earlier, where they uncover a terrible secret guarded by the dead. It will change the course of their lives forever...assuming they can survive.     First of all DC has me in their clutches with the Young Animal and now Black Label lines of books. Also that Black Label isn't just home to Hill House but with Constantine, The Question, Harley Quinn and the Joker plus with creator owned like this one there is this phenomenal range and diversity in what we get to see and experience. Personally I grew up reading the Dragonlance Chronicles so there's nothing I love more than a sweeping fantasy epic and from everything I have seen thus far this is fitting beautifully into that description.     I love the way that this is being told. The story & plot development we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is laid down perfectly. As we go through the story it's not quite a choose your own adventure but it feels very much like the reader experiences an immerse story. You feel like you are there looking around, rolling a D20, looking for traps and that's pretty bloody effin amazing. The character development that we see here is really incredibly strong. The situations and circumstances they encounter along the way help shape who they become from whom we saw at the start and that growth and development keeps the opinions of these characters changing constantly. The pacing is superb and as it takes us through the pages revealing the twists and turns along the way and maybe a minor revelation or two as well we are filled with tension and apprehension and it's delicious. The way all this works together to create the books ebb & flow is nicely conceived and executed.     The interiors here are fantastic! Normally I want to see more backgrounds and with this level and quality of linework and it's attention to detail makes me want to see more but, and I don't normally say this, but I am okay with what we see. I will say this when we see the library, those doors or that tree these are the moments that stand out more than a blank coloured background. I mean those books, those books—weeping because I want to see them in person. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show this really talented eye for storytelling. The colour work is interesting to see here as well. The use of magic or powers or whatnot are the brightest colours we'll see and they are a welcome sight, much the neon sign saying vacancy. The rest are muted into a darker range and that's as much as where they are and the kind of story being told. Suffice it to say that while that is the case we still see beautiful range of hues and tones within the colours utilised in the shading, highlights and shadows. It is nice to see them flow the darker way instead of the lighter one.      The more we learn the less we know and there's still the matter of who to trust. All I can say for sure is that I am here month after month eagerly awaiting to see if my predictions and prophecies will bear fruit or has what my mind engaged in is so completely wrong. This, this is how you know you are reading something magnificent.

A NEW LEGEND BEGINS IN THE LAST GOD, AN ORIGINAL DARK HIGH-FANTASY SERIES COMING IN OCTOBER FROM DC This October, DC delves into a new world of myth, magic and lore in THE LAST GOD, from writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson (Last Sons of America, Jim Henson’s The Power of the Dark Crystal), artist Riccardo Federici (AQUAMAN, DARK NIGHTS: METAL-THE MURDER MACHINE) and colorist Dean White (ALL-STAR BATMAN, AMERICAN CARNAGE). The story will follow a cross-generational quest to kill an evil tyrant king—also known as the Last God—as he seeks to destroy the land of Cain Anuun. The 12-issue series begins October 30.
“This is a terrifying horror story told in a stunning epic-fantasy world. Set in two different generations, it follows a mighty fellowship of heroes that travels beyond the borders of creation to kill a god, and the next generation, who learn their predecessors aren’t the heroes the world believes them to be,” says Johnson.
“This series features mind-blowing, terrifying art by Riccardo Federici, colorist Dean White, and letterer Tom Napolitano, three absolute geniuses in their fields, and epic world-building so deep and rich that it exists beyond the bounds of the page. Fans of D&D, Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings and Magic: The Gathering, and anyone who enjoys deep-dives into fantasy lore: you will be extremely well-served with The Last God. Stay tuned!”
Thirty years ago, a fellowship of legendary adventurers saved their world by slaying the demonic tyrant Mol Uhltep—The Last God. Following his downfall, the realm entered a new age of peace and prosperity. But a generation later, when the leader of the original fellowship dies, their children and successors learn their terrible lie:
The Last God still lives.
A new generation of heroes must unearth the secrets that their parents kept, and set out to finish what was started thirty years before. And this time, they must not fail.
“When I was asked to draw this series I was so excited, both because I love the fantasy genre, especially when there are horror connotations, but also because it was an opportunity to graphically create a new world,” says artist Federici. “Everyone on the team and at DC has shown me such confidence and I am so thankful.”
DC Publisher Dan DiDio added “This series reinforces DC’s commitment to working with the best storytellers, as well as our commitment to finding new and original concepts to publish.”
THE LAST GOD will release monthly beginning on October 30. The series will be released under DC Black Label, intended for mature audiences.
