HAIKYUU ESSAY TIME YAYAYAYA

today's essay idea was brought upon me in the midst of my post-athletics recovery and WILL be my most batshit insane one yet. less facts more feelings. this essay is HEAVILY CENTERED around kghn so it'll only be, like, 15% factually accurate, 85% insane. because there are definitely other non-relationship focused nuances in what i'm about to show you that i shall be choosing to ignore- i'm just clarifying that i DO know they're there, i'm just crazy.

Let us begin.

to provide context, i'll be speaking about Season 1 Episode 23. this is the first official Seijoh match, which they're tied with Karasuno 1-all. this is the final set and the tension is to typical dramatized Haikyuu standard.

Kageyama has just set the ball to Asahi, of which he successfully pulled off a pipe attack, earning Karasuno yet another point. we now proceed to take a look into Kageyama's thoughts post-point:

i'd say this is pretty standard for Kageyama. his game sense when it comes to volleyball is off the charts. dude could probably perfectly play a game in his SLEEP if he really wanted to. knowing where the best attacks will come from, how he'll set the ball- all of that is second nature to him.

and that, my friends, is what makes this line all the more interesting:

because, yes, Hinata did call for the ball, but based on what Kageyama just mentioned, tossing the ball to Hinata should have been ruled out entirely by this point. hell, Kageyama wasn't even FACING Hinata when he called for the ball. Kageyama was literally in the perfect position, perfect timing, perfect EVERYTHING to give it to Asahi.

Yet he nearly gave it to Hinata.

and the fact that he nearly gave it to Hinata is insane enough on its own, but the way Kageyama puts it here: "He nearly took the set away from me." emphasis on the "took [it] away"

Hinata, just by calling out "send it my way," was enough to take the instincts that Kageyama has had and been fostering for his entire lifetime and just throw them all away. Hinata has taken all the game sense Kageyama has built up just by calling for the ball. THAT'S THE KIND OF IMPACT HE HAS ON KAGEYAMA.

(additionally: this kind of impact is almost expected considering the fact that Hinata has established himself as someone that Kageyama can always fall on, having promised to hit any toss he sends his way regardless of how fast or shitty it is.)

one call. one "send it my way." one jump from a place that Kageyama can only see out of the very corner of his eye. that's all it takes.

to paraphrase insanely: with respect to Hinata, all it takes to completely bend Kageyama- an absolute PRODIGY of a player- to your will is to simply call for the ball. that's it. everything could be perfect to send it left, but if Hinata's going right and he wants it, all he has to do is call for it and there's a chance Kageyama will send it to the right. one call. no need to argue.

and then we also get this absolute BLESSING of a frame. absolutely stunning, beautiful, amazing. i eat it up every time.

(the nuance that normal people would see here is essentially: Hinata is such a great decoy that he can even lure his own teammates. which. like. yeah, that also happens. Kageyama is definitely being lured in. i've just decided to take the less normal route and fixate on a completely arbitrary yet still very important aspect of the show- aka Kageyama and Hinata's relationship.)

this scene in particular also ties in nicely to that one bit in season 3 where Oikawa goes to watch the Shiratorizawa vs. Karasuno match and says "Hinata's got Tobio wrapped around his finger" OUGH that one always gets me.

anyways: this is basically one of the five occasions (that i can think of off the top of my head) in which the show points out that Hinata is the one calling the shots here. like, it's never been "Kageyama tosses and Hinata spikes," it's always been "Hinata spikes wherever the fuck he wants to, Kageyama just has to get the ball to him" WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY WILD IF YOU ASK ME

In my mind, Mingi is a switch with a sub leaning and I honestly do feel him getting jealous and/or possessive would flip that switch into dom!mingi territory.

omg thank you for your super sweet response🫶🏼😭 i’m so glad you loved it and noticed the intricate details. when it comes to writing i like doing concepts i haven’t seen written before! i don’t like my writing to be repetitive or similar to other stories, and cregan is such a honorable character yet also large and in charge i feel there’s many different ways he can be written. it’s why i have a hard time writing for ben blackwood (my other favorite hotd man) because his character is not as deep as cregan’s. but as a stark and with his depth cregan can honestly be any kind of man ppl want him to be. i’ve written him to be rough, dominate, animalistic over his lady, but cregan can also be gentle, loving, nervous. when it came to their losses of virginity, i didn’t want cregan’s rough side to IMMEDIATELY come out. i wanted to slowly build it up. he loves her, she’s his best friend, it only makes sense the first time they have sex cregan chooses to make love to her and not “fuck her” like a typical man would. yes he wants to see her writhe, yes he wants to see her turn into a mess, but he also wants to see her comfortable and he wants her to feel safe and held. as for the reader being braver than cregan, i WAY PREFER the brave woman trope when it comes to writing a reader, i occasionally do the damsel in distress or quiet woman personality but writing a strong and unafraid woman just hits different for me!

and when it came to their eye contact, i HAD to make a point in the story that cregan desperately wanted to see her and she desperately wanted to be seen by him. to continue from that, i like imagining they saw through each other. they’re essentially extensions of each other, so he looked past her beauty and instead saw their memories and intimate moments they shared as just friends that led them to this moment. she looked into him and saw past his hard and determined exterior and instead saw the boy she fell in love with and the one who always did everything to protect her and her honor.

as for a continuation, this story was intended to be a one off but if the right idea comes in my mind that could change! i’m working on an unofficial sequel for northern attitude which was also originally intended to be a one off. so it really just depends if i can get struck by the right idea!

Could I ask for adam x seraphim!female!reader, where after adam died he ended up in hell (like a reverse pentious) and its sort of angsty in the beginning because reader has taken over from adam and her and lute were close before and it's like sad bcs it's the first extermination after Adams death, and when they go down, lute is really protective of reader because girl can't go through that shit again and then they are walking down a street and reader gets tackled into a hug and lute almost kills the person BUT turns out its adam?

(Little more context I guess? Adam and reader where dating before, and reader and lute were already close but became closer. This isn't readers normal job (lutes in charge of training everyone still), and she is basically the same as sera and Emily in the fact she does courts and stuff but she chose to help with exterminations on the day off because she wants to help heal her sadness by taking it out on ppl?)

With all the court date business with being a Seraphim and all of the stress of the exterminations is now being put on your shoulders you had the duties like the other Seraphims, there were three of you. Yourself, Emily, and Sera the three of you managed to get by but it was a lot of work you couldn't imagine how much work the archangels had to do.

And what made matters worse you were still grieving about your dead boyfriend who had died last year to the exterminations to none other than Charlie Morningstar and Lucifer Morningstar themselves and he was finished off by a lowing janitor demon who is no bigger than a child at the most.

You and Lute had been given unwanted promotions which led to more stress and work under your shoulders and on your wings.

As the next extermination was already a few days away you had to prepare you had planned to go down and kill some demons since you felt the urge to and you had been given the green light by the other Seraphims to do so you had to take out your unacquitted rage somehow.

Since it was only currently bubbling up inside of you and you knew that wasn't healthy nor was it safe since eventually you were going to bubble over and snap at somebody you don't mean to and only God knows what kind of trouble that could get you into.

As you were counting down the days till the next extermination you had been talking with your best friend Lute who you'd grown closer to since Adam's death she had taught you how to defend yourself in case something happened to you and she couldn't be by your side to protect you which probably wasn't going to happen since she had gotten very protected and very protective of you.

"One more day... One more day marks the day I lost you..."

You spoke as you looked at the picture of the two of you the first time you and Adam had hung out in a picture frame by your bed as you felt the hot stinging tears roll down your cheeks you couldn't help but choke back a sob you missed him more than anything he was the man you were supposed to spend the rest of your afterlife with.

But those plans have been rudely interrupted by none other than the king and princess of Hell you promised yourself one day you get your revenge but you knew in this current state you are nowhere near strong enough to take on Lucifer on your own.

Even as a Seraphim who could possess high power stood no match to Lucifer who was a fallen archangel only another archangel or God Almighty themself could take him down.

You were snapped out of your trance by the sound of knocking what you're doing as you snapped your head towards the door you responded letting the other person know they could come in as the figure of your friend Lute made her way back into your room as she noticed your tears as she rushed towards you bringing her self close to you pulling you into a hug quickly.

ONE DAY LATER

It was extermination day finally as you and the rest of the exterminators along with your friend Lute flew towards the portal to Hell as you arrived at the dark dingy and ominous landscape of Hell that smelled like rot and decay, you coughed as the air was harsh and bitter to the taste as your nose scrunched up.

"It reeks here..."

"Yeah you never get used to the smell"

As you flew around the streets of Hell looking toward for any demon that you could stick your weapon into your weapon was different than the other angels you had your own weapon as a Seraphim much like an archangel that got their own weapons although there's were more customized while you only had a two-sided spear one side was sharp and smooth and the other was rigid and curved nonetheless both ends were very sharp.

Suddenly something caught your eye as you stopped and hovered as your wings folded against your back as your feet touch the pavement as you looked into a dark alleyway seeing a pair of golden eyes staring right back at you, as you tilted your head in confusion on why they weren't running instead they were running towards you.

Suddenly the demon embraced you. You were confused for a moment until he looked up at you and you immediately recognized who it was.

"A-Adam?"

"You remember me?"

"Of cou-"

"Y/N!"

You heard Lutes panicked voice behind you as you spun around trying to diffuse her anger as you shielded Adam from Lute making her stop in her tracks as she looked confused at you before you stepped away showing the demon as she dropped her own spear embracing him tightly as the three of you embraced each other.

Finally made her up, I was just putting it off and putting off designing her but then I took my pen, my new laptop and drew it, now look at her!!!

Alright let's start shall we?

Design:

"OMG FANATICAL WHY DOES POPPY LOOKS LIKE A FRISK-" Shhhhh, you need to calm down, i'll explain everything;

Alright, bare with me: The original Poppy mentions in an animation, that she's talking to her therapist, that people usually thinks she's a Chara, but she's none! And I think, I theorize, I suppose that the reason why she looks like a Chara is bc an Frisk was drawing her (you know her lore?), so supposing that the whole concept of Invertedverse is that the original universe Underswap, that Frisk who drew her is an Chara, so if the Frisk drew a Chara in the original, here the Frisk that is now a Chara would draw a Frisk....... so, that's the logic here.;

Even though Poppy is still not a Frisk nor a Chara, but I don't think I translated that into her design, maybe I'll redo it sometime.

Her clothings are intriguing. It's her original teenage/adult clothings but with some green and a purple cloak or cape, whatever that is. This cloak represents her importance inside OmegaTimeline, that reminds me;

Story:

Core was the "ruler" of Omega Timeline, everyone would look for them when there was a problem and needed help, everybody trusted them, but they put Poppy on their place... Core is a very mischievous character, no one really knows why they put Poppy in charge.

Omega citizens theorize that the reason is because Core was lazy, or that they didn't like the attention, or maybe they wanted to focus fully on recruting people, even thought after Poppy got in charge Core was rarely seen interacting with people and also the numbers of new survivors to get to the OT decreased.

Poppy tries her best to help remain peace within Omega Timeline, even if it requires all of her energies, thought she could really use some help, she thinks that the reason why her parent is more absent while she was in charge was because they knew she could everything alone, and that she should do it.

She doesn't have many friends, and the old ones got far away because she's too busy working signing papers, solving problems, financing projects, etc, etc.

Character:

She suffers. That's the truth, she just needs a vacation and a hug from her girlfriend.

She doesn't like parties... just thought it was important to mention.

Poppy doesn't like her parent, almost hates them even, they seem so irresponsible, imature and a coward, after just letting their daughter in charge of a (practically) country in surprise, it's expected for her to feel that way

Poppy has to be the clueless character in the whole Invertedverse, the reason is that she's so busy at work, or too busy being tired, and she usually gets information on what's going on from Core, but Core have been very silent lately, wonder why...

She has the hobby of playing board games, dancing and origamis!

She likes to cook more for others than herself

Sometimes she would visit the Madame T's orphanage, mainly to see Cadence and her friends, but also to donate and all of that things famous ppl do in orphanages idk.

Even thought she does a lot of hard work sometimes she'd take credit over someone elses work unintentionally, i mean, she's kind of the president.

She can't lie, like literally, maybe it's just her morals, or maybe it's a supernatural force idk.

She also keeps taping her fingers in hard surfaces all the time, I think it's anxiety.

i was rereading the book of the law to make comparisons to the 36 sermons of vivec and came across this one passage where i was like "omg. this is so azura" and i immediately pictured this in my head and had to run to recreate it

sir makes an advent calender for you for sure 😩😩. like he doesn't buy one, he goes the extra mile and gets an idea to make 24 special presents for you HIMSELF (all of them rather small becasue he doesn't want them to overshine the main present on christmas eve, yet thoughtful enough for you to absolutely MELT at the fact he put so much effort into a seemingly irrelevant thing such as an advent calender???). honestly, in general, pre christmas and winter time, december all throughout january, is SO incredibly soft with this man. cuddles all the way, if not in bed cuz he has to work then on his lap WHILE he's working fr. both of you in hoodies of his, both of you in fluffy socks that keep you warm. you dozing off at some point, him giggling about it and taking a pic to keep the memory, and it's just all so warm and soft and cuddly :(((

COOKS SO MUCH FOR YOU 😩😩. like he's in charge for christmas dinner so he needs to run some test meals and it's convenient that you're there cuz you can just taste test everything <33. is so sweet when he runs up to you with a hot spoon in his hand and tells you to blow first before digging in. in general the whole of december is very sweet with him but on a very lowkey level. he wouldn't go all in with being overly romantic, wouldn't die to visit winter markets with you — but seeing how much you like the sparkling lights that illuminate the city and how much joy it brings you to stroll around, kicking the snow beneath your feet, he can't help it and sees himself wishing to go out for yet another walk in the cold with you. oh and you can BET there's gonna be endless snowball fights. like endless. lino'd definitely keep track of who won last time and either is trying to get a revenge or would egg you on to get back at him. really just for the fun of it, he loves sillying around with you whenever you step foot into the snow <3.

ice skating dates allll the way, and winter market strolls!! boy is definitely a sucker for everything sweet and romantic around christmas and is so soft with you throughout all of december (he is always, but when the temperatures are cold it feels like he's this much more drawn to you, searching for warmth in your embrace and providing you with a warming body as well). and he eats SO much with you omg!!! like when you remind him of dieting or healthy eating man's is JUDGING YOU SO HARD cuz when else would you be able to go to a winter market when the snow is falling and order some chocolate covered fruits and roasted almonds and drink mulled wine and get all comfy and tired and sleepy together and end up sharing drunken kisses on your way home??? like that is a ONCE in a life time experience and he will throw every principle of healthy eating out the window if it means munching and sipping stuff in your company <333.

SO IN LOVE WITH CHRISTMAS R U KIDDING. christmas time and especially pre christmas time is the very best with him. when you wake up to see it snowing — mind you, especially if it's the first ever snow this year — he will get so sappy and romantic and be all like 'we're soulmates now cuz we saw the first snow together' and he'll stay cuddling you for a while longer SUFFOCATING YOU before begging to go out with him to feel the falling snow on his face and hands. will also ADORE visiting winter markets with you, having some wintery food like roasted almonds and mulled wine which he gets so sleepy from. like he loves watching ppl being happy and winter markets give him the perfect view for it — most importantly loves seeing you happy tho, and the smile you have painted on your face while strolling around with him is unbeatable. also fucking loves to simply cuddle up at home with just the two of you alone and unbothered, not necessarily watching a movie even, but simply sitting and being warm together. like that's all he needs to be happy fr.

i feel like boy loves mulled wine so much you'd have to carry him home because he never learns and drinks WAY too fucking much because it's so tasty and ends up barely able to stand up straight. also just very loves all the snacks and cookies and sweets around the holidays, like will buy so much ginger bread it's crazy you'll end up eating it up until like february. OH AND GINGER BREAD HOUSE COMPETITIONS !!!! like he'd see it on tiktok at some point, people competing in building ginger bread houses and he simply NEEDS to know who'd win between the two of you. you'd blast some christmas playlist — not before going to shop for the ingrediants together and probably forgetting a couple because you just can't coordinate — and you'd set a timer to add a bit to the competition feeling. hanji SINGS his lungs out on every single christmas song, tries outsinging mariah carey and at some point you can't help but ask him to tone it down because your ears — as good of a singer as he is — can only take this much.

BAKING DATES. LOTS OF THEM. like he loves baking normally anyways but doesn't want to overdo it if there's no occassion, but winter calls for baking millions of cookies on end and handing them out to every single friend he has (and their families, he just loves spoiling people). and he finds it so cute when the two of you get to bake together, like especially if you're normally not a big baker he LOVES kinda teaching and guiding you on what to do. every baking session would end up kinda messily because of mysterious reasons (you claim tho that it's never your fault the cookies look a bit ugly or are way sweeter than they should be), but despite that both you and him can laugh about it, enjoying that not everything has to go perfect for the both of you to have fun. is definitely a fan of winter markets, mentions WAY too often that it's WAY too cold tho so he prefers to stay home with you, cuddling up on the sofa with classic christmas movies and being all fuzzy and warm and soft <33.

is such a perfectionist when decorating the house OMG. you'd go decoration shopping with him, setting on a vibe and theme before spending WAY too much money and ending up only using like half the stuff anyways. and tho he has to say a LOT about where certain stuff should be hanging it's nevertheless so much fun to spend the time with him, getting your own four walls looking as pretty and wintery as ever. he'd be teasing you so much for no good reason other than to annoy you (and because he loves how much you always react to it), like messing with the christmas ball you want to hang up on the tree, or putting sparkly garlands around your neck, or suddenly coming up to you and planting a kiss right to your lips and watching you get incredibly flustered. omg and singing christmas songs with him??? or like, listening to him sing more than you singing yourself, but whenever a classic plays on the radio he hums with it and it warms your heart so so much you melt into a small puddle upon his voice filling the warm home.

no cuz boy is so soft throughout winter :(((. i know he plans your present months prior so he's all set for WEEKS simply to not stress over gifts, especially for you. puts lots of thought into the present as well, important to get you something meaningful that you'd be able to remember him by. the moment the first snow falls he's DRAGGING you outside with him, having snowball fights and building snowpeople and tackling you onto the ground to make snow angels <33. OMG and do y'all know those snow duck presses??? the ones where you put some snow in between and press together and a snow duck appears??? he'd have ordered it early enough to be SO prepared to use it when there's enough snow outside, making a whole army of little snow ducks and taking pics of them with you and him in front <333.
