WIP Wednesday Thursday Edition: Tomasz Gildebrant
Time is an iffy substance to work with at times, especially when you're experiencing the first writer's block you've had in years. I'm charting this one up to my explosive pace in November and perhaps some slight anxiety about writing one scene in particular but enough about that, time to talk about another important piece of His Impossible Brushstrokes. Today, we're talking about Tomasz Gildebrant, the man at the center of it all. Is he a spider in his web, a damsel in a dungeon, or something else entirely?
Tomasz was the first part of His Impossible Brushstrokes that I came up with. The idea came in the form of an image prompt of a handsome-looking man with a paintbrush and some splotches of multicolored paint. Several of the ideas of this book spawned from that image, and it has made Tomasz the most described character in the book as far as physical descriptions go. His inner life remains somewhat more of a mystery, and that is mostly by design.
Tomasz is, put simply, designed to be a mystery. He's a reclusive artist and all, but once our unlucky protagonist manages to arrange a meeting with him he does seem open and friendly, although there's no shortage of odd mannerisms or the sense that there are further circles to his mystery that even talking to the man doesn't really reveal.
This mystery is simultaneously my favorite and least favorite part of writing this man. On one hand, the ongoing secretkeeping through lies of omission and the odd deception and descent into arcana is very fun to work with. On the other hand, it's very difficult to talk about the guy.
I think I can say as much that I'm having a grand time with playing in to the various roles Tomasz could be argued to hold in the story. In the end, I think it'll be a bit uncharitable, or alternatively entirely too charitable, to describe him as a monster, a villain, an addict, a victim, a weirdo, a cultist or a sage.
So, how is it working out for me? Well, it's easy to write a main character who is at the same time mystified, scared of, and attracted to this man, I'll say as much, but I do worry at times that I'm making the fellow too cryptic to get attached to. It'll be a pretty impressive sleight of hand if I land it I though.
In closing I'd like to share a song I associate with the fellow. Constellation Of Tears by Cain's Offering is probably the closest match to his vibe and particular blend of artistic angst and energy that one would get from the fellow. If you could imagine a cover of Orville Peck's Daytona Sand played in the style of Romanian folk music with some occasional electronic elements and sung with a slight polish accent, you'd also get something pretty close to his personal theme song.

My Favorite Pink Floyd Songs
I FEEL LIKE MAKING A LIST. I am putting it here in my digital diary. (Ignore this, I got too personal.)
Pink Floyd is and has been my favorite band since I was thirteen years old. They have been a constant presence in my life as my dad has been a huge fan his entire life. I have memories of him playing and singing PF songs to me when I was a kid. I have yet to find a band/artists who surpasses them in my mind. That being said, I haven't listened to all of their albums yet because I'm so satisfied with what I have heard that I haven't gotten bored enough to hear more yet. (YET!) I am savoring them and their music. I love all of the songs on these albums but I'm trying to narrow them down as much as possible, for fun.
MEDDLE (1971)
Echoes - What a TRIP. This is a song that inspires me endlessly, I pick up on something new every time I listen to it. Some insane lyricism, paired with crazy instrumentals. Holy cow. Favorite Lyrics - "The echo of a distant time comes willowing across the sand / And everything is green and submarine" and "Strangers passing in the street / By chance two separate glances meet / And I am you and what I see is me"
DARK SIDE OF THE MOON (1973)
Breathe (In the Air) - One of the songs I remember my dad singing to me as a kid. I remember one day he pulled up the lyrics to show me, and they went over my head at the time, but every time I hear this song now they haunt me. Favorite Lyrics - "Run, rabbit run / Dig that hole, forget the sun / And when at last the work is done / Don't sit down it's time to dig another one"
Time - This is in my top three PF songs. I cannot express how beautiful and fucking gut-wrenching this song is. It has one of the band's best guitar solos. When I hear this song I ascend and also comprehend my own mortality like it's the first time. Unmatched. I hear this song and panic over the passage of time, but I also bask in the absolute beauty of the music itself. Favorite Lyrics - "And you run and you run to catch up with the sun / but it's sinking" (Honorable mention: "Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way")
WISH YOU WERE HERE (1975)
Shine on You Crazy Diamond (Pts. 1-5) - Knowing the lore behind this song makes it absolutely insane. This is another song where I remember my dad showing the lyrics to me and pointing them out. I love this song just for the lyrics alone, the imagery in it inspires me heavily as a writer. Favorite Lyrics - "Remember when you were young? / You shone like the sun / Shine on you crazy diamond / Now there's a look in your eyes / Like black holes in the sky"
Have A Cigar - This is absolutely a hype song for me, put it on and I'll be singing along (badly) at the top of my lungs. I enjoy the commentary on the music industry a lot, plus it reminds me of one of my OCs, Lake, so bonus points for that. It feels like the antithesis to Orville Peck's "Turn to Hate". Favorite Lyrics - "Come in here, dear boy, you're gonna go far / You're gonna fly high, you're never gonna die / You're gonna make it if you try / They're gonna love you"
Wish You Were Here - This and Brain Damage were the first PF songs I really "found" on my own. I have wept to this song too many times to count. It reminds me of my dad. Favorite Lyrics - "We're just two lost souls swimming in a fishbowl, year after year / Running over the same old ground, what have we found? / The same old fears / Wish you were here"
ANIMALS (1977)
Dogs - This album is 100% political commentary through and through, which is one of the reasons I love it. That being said, I relate to certain aspects of this song when I'm doing really badly. It reminds me of the brutality of my childhood, of growing up in an abusive authoritarian home with my specific family dynamic (being the aggressor but also being a pawn in someone else's game). It also has some insane instrumentals. Favorite Lyric - "Gotta admit, I'm a little bit confused / Sometimes it seems to me as if I'm just being used"
Sheep - This is just a straight-up banger. I think it's just one you'll have to listen to because it's hard for me to put how I feel about this one into words. My favorite moments in the song are 2:47 and 7:23. Favorite Lyric - "Wave upon wave of demented avengers / March cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream"
THE WALL (1979)
Empty Spaces - Woo this is a doozy of an album. I have words but no thoughts at the moment. Empty Spaces is in my opinion a perfect transitional song. I love the guitarwork in this one, the menacing-ness of it. And then, of course, the transition into Young Lust, which is one of my favorite songs off of The Wall. Favorite Lyric - "What shall we use to fill the empty spaces / Where we used to talk?"
Young Lust - Probably my ultimate hype PF song. Brings out all of the testosterone in my small body to the surface. I hear this song and I NEED A DIRTY WOMAN! WHO'S GONNA SHOW THIS STRANGER AROUND! I FEEL IT IN MY SPIRITUAL DICK. It's such a mood shift but God, is it good.
One of My Turns - This is my favorite song off The Wall, hands down. I remember listening to it for the first time and I remember listening to it for the first time. This song means a lot to me on a very personal level. I used to have very fast swings into anger when I was younger, so that along with the constant push-pull dynamic I have had with people at certain points in my life... this song sometimes sounds like my brain. The clueless dialogue in the beginning, the TV droning, this song is like swinging from dissociation into a rage, which are two states I am very, very familiar with. One of My Turns leading into Don't Leave Me Now imo perfectly encapsulates what it's like to have a disorganized attachment style. Favorite Lyrics - "And night after night, we pretend it's alright / But I have grown older and you have grown colder / And nothing is very much fun anymore / And I can feel one of my turns coming on / I feel cold as a razorblade, tight as a tourniquet / dry as a funeral drum"
Comfortably Numb - Again, I remember listening to this song for the first time and I remember listening to this song for the first time. This has probably the best guitar solo I've ever heard in my life. Holy hell. I'm listening to it now and it's giving me goosebumps. That whole solo tells a story in itself. I love Hey, You's solo as well but I'm going to have to give the trophy to Comfortably Numb. Ironically, this was one of the very first PF songs I discovered on my own but I don't think I really "felt" it until maybe eight months ago. If you listen to one song off of The Wall, listen to this one. Favorite Lyrics - "When I was a child, I caught a fleeting glimpse / Out of the corner of my eye / I turned to look, but it was gone / I cannot put my finger on it now / The child is grown, the dream is gone"
THE FINAL CUT (1983)
Your Possible Pasts - Again, this is a very political album so I don't exactly feel qualified to speak on it much (bc I am not very educated when it comes to British politics), but this song is incredible. Edit: I did go and read up a bit on this album and there are LAYERS. It expands on the lore from the Wall, love these guys, they are geniuses. Anyway. Sonically, I love this song. I think it's one of those songs where it's going to take me 100 listens to really "get" it, and I'm on my 64th. Favorite Lyric - "By the cold and religious we were taken in hand / Shown how to feel good and told to feel bad"
The Final Cut - Okay, this is another one of my OG first discoveries as far as PF goes. Again, a very personal song for me, with all of my past mental health issues as a kid/teenager. I'm happy to report that I don't relate to this song as much as I did years ago. Again, disorganized attachment themes (I am projecting but that's how I interpret it lol). I have ugly-cried to this more times than I can count over the years. Favorite Lyrics - "Through the fish-eyed lens of tear stained eyes / I can barely define the shape of this moment in time" and "There's a kid who had a big hallucination / Making love to girls in magazines / He wonders if you're sleeping with your newfound faith / Could anybody love him, or is it just a crazy dream?"
A MOMENTARY LAPSE OF REASON (1987)
The Final Cut was the last album featuring Roger Waters, so from then on the band shifted. David Gilmour took on the mantle of Pink Floyd and made A Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell, my two favorite PF albums (DB is my all-time favorite). I like Gilmour's stuff a lot more than Waters', there's a level of hope to his songs that is completely absent in Waters'. I listen to post-Final Cut stuff a lot more than pre for this reason.
Signs of Life - A very personal song for me. Reminds my of my spiritual walk. If I say anything more I'm going to seem like a weirdo. What an awesome album opener, though.
Learning to Fly - This is my dad's favorite PF song. I don't have much to say other than what a beautiful song. Gilmour's lyricism really shines here. If you were to narrow down my soul to only the good parts, it would sound like this song. I have cried grateful (!) tears to this song. Favorite Lyrics - "A soul in tension that's learning to fly / Condition grounded but determined to try" and "A dream unthreatened by the morning light / Could blow this soul right through the roof of the night"
One Slip - This is my "Young Lust" of this album. Hype song, but also it sounds like every single bad relationship I've been in, haha. It sounds like that moment of just thinking to myself "FUCK IT!", it sounds like me when my frontal lobe disappears entirely because I can't resist lesbians with big brown eyes, apparently. If you were to connect my brain to a Bluetooth speaker when I have a crush it would be just this song playing over and over. There's always a tipping point that ends up spiraling into messiness and this song sounds like that tipping point (in a self-aware way). Favorite lyrics - "I led the way to the funeral pyre / And without a thought of consequence I gave into my decadence" and "Was it love, or was it the idea of being in love? / Or was it the hand of fate that seemed to fit just like a glove?"
Yet Another Movie - Take a good long look at the cover of this album. Look longer. Want a song that sounds exactly like the cover? LOOK NO FURTHER. I love this song. It's so weird. The fucking instrumentals have me on my knees. The backing vocals from Casablanca? It's pure Gilmour weirdness. I don't know what language this man is speaking, but message received. What a banger.
Sorrow - This is actually one that I haven't listened to enough as the others but I do really love it. More awesome guitar, more insane lyricism. On my 100th play I'll understand this song more, I'm on my 45th play. Favorite Lyrics - "He's haunted by a memory of a lost paradise / In his youth or a dream, he can't be precise / He's chained forever to a world that's departed / It's not enough, it's not enough"
THE DIVISION BELL (1994)
My favorite Pink Floyd album. Nothing soothes my soul quite like listening to this one. If you want to KNOW me, listen to the Division Bell. It's pure David Gilmour genius. I fucking love this album, I want my vinyl buried with me when I die. If I could only listen to one album for the rest of my life, it's this one, easy.
Poles Apart - This song makes me cry! Wow. Who knew? What a beautiful, gut-wrenching song. It reminds me of my parents at different parts, and it's got some awesome instrumentals (there's a carnival? clown? motif in the middle but it works, somehow). There's a story told in this song, and I've lived the story, but I can't quite put my finger on exactly what it is. Favorite Lyrics - "The rain fell slow / Down on all the roofs of uncertainty / I thought of you / And the years and all the sadness fell away from me" (this lyric makes me think of my dad. Can you tell I love him?)
Wearing the Inside Out - More awesome instrumentals. I don't get why this album is so overlooked by PF fans, seriously!! Again, this is a very personal song for me - more spiritual woo-woo stuff. The lyrics are insane, like always. Favorite lyrics - "This bleeding heart's (waiting for the waves) / Not beating much (to break)"
Keep Talking - Again, disorganized attachment, this is EXACTLY how it feels for me when I spiral down into avoidant behaviors (if you're reading this and are concerned I am actively working on it!). It's also just a cool-ass song. I love the beginning, from the old voiceover and then that beat drop into the song? Mmhmm. That's what I'm talkin' about. Favorite Lyrics - "I think I should speak now (why won't you talk to me?) / I can't seem to speak now (you never talk to me!)"
Lost for Words - This is my all-time favorite PF song. It doesn't have the bells and whistles and crazy guitar solos but it touches me on a deep fucking level. It reminds me of my relationship with my mom, unfortunately. But it is a beautiful song full of cool lyrics and imagery, it's been my favorite on the DB since I first heard the album and has developed into my favorite PF song over the years. Every year the lyrics become more relatable to me, hah. I think about it a lot from the perspective of someone who used to just constantly be angry, but now is just too tired to be.
Favorite Lyrics - "Can you see your days blighted by darkness? / Is it true you beat your fists on the floor? / Stuck in a world of isolation / While the ivy grows over the door / So I open my door to my enemies / And I ask could we wipe the slate clean / But they tell me to please go and fuck myself / You know you just can't win"
Honorable mention - High Hopes for that fucking incredible solo.
MY TOP FIVE PICKS IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER (except 1.)
LOST FOR WORDS
Learning to Fly
Comfortably Numb
One of my Turns
Time
If you read all of this....what the fuck are you doing? Why? (thank you, now you know too much about me but you hopefully have found some good ass songs from this post)

honestly? yeah I would believe you
oh hell ya bc i am surprisingly passionate about this
i’m going to be real i understand vtubing is mostly based on idols, right? but i feel like the designs of models and how hard people lean into them is very reminiscent of drag artistry because of how impossible they are irl. i regularly see fuufuuchan in different appearances or presentations—legatus, archivist, alan, all forms of ovidia just to start—and like, the experimentation of gender and presentation through different characters itches something in my head that screams character comedy king a la jarvis hammer
and it goes on too. it’s very easy to see gavis bettel as a drag king. ironmouse as a fashion queen due to her many models. i see vtubers regularly drop music, do dances once they’re 3d/on games, y’all’re two lip syncs away from a pageant sometimes i swear
of course there’s intersections as well like ike and aia being drag race fans. i love seeing those two and their interpretation of gender! because vtuber models allow fashion that wouldn’t be possible in real life as WELL as the divide between the real world (flesh) and digital (vtuber) it allows a lot of room for people to be glamorous and interpret or critique gender (and other subjects) through that. for example ike’s crossdressing in flesh and in his vrchat model isn’t with an agenda in mind but makes his audience reconsider what their own definition of masculinity is. aia’s latest outfit is very inspired by magical girls and more specifically the military (style!!!) influence of their outfits and that goes hand in hand with how the lore associated can very easily be considered a statement on mental and physical disability. and so performing her own gender in an outfit that is influenced by the magical girl genre (which gets pretty sapphic pretty fast), military style (which alludes to strength, obedience, vigilance, etc), and invisible disability is So drag dude
hm. maybe i should make a post on aia’s lore and disability idk
anyways one of those two does his own thing regardless of heteronormative rules of gender because he wants to, not because there’s any underlying message about it, and that is a valid and real performance of gender. the other has a story associated with a look that bends heteronormative gender and advocates for a cause, and that is a valid and real performance of gender. and considering how drag is ultimately a critique of gender as well as society, people, etc through gender presentation, ya. they’re doing drag
i’m a believer that lip syncs are the foundation of drag but not a requirement. drag is fundamentally entertainment in general. so that’s how you get drag artists like divine who was mostly an actress but also did music. i’d also argue chappell roan, orville peck, lady gaga, lil nas x and dolly parton also fall under the umbrella of drag bc of how they incorporate their appearance into performance, and ofc bc they were also inspired by drag
so like, when i see unnämed’s 3d debut, what is fundamentally different from adore delano singing and playing music in drag. at some point we have to recognize things like changing colors, flame effects, etc are all extremes that contribute to an overall Look
and i won’t lie, i don’t have a lot of accessible drag near me so boulet brothers’ dragula is my favorite show. so we see artists in all sorts of entertainment fields: music, stand-up, stunts, fashion, acting, dance, merchandising, modeling, comedy, art, hell even ttrpgs. i can think of more than a few vtubers that have done or regularly do these things. if you dig biqtch puddin’s digital drag show streams then boy do i have news for you, as well as the many other drag artists that do youtube or streams
and if you REALLY want to get into the gender theory of it all then porcelainmaid is RIGHT THERE.
if you see drag artistry as putting on a character then doppio dropscythe, vox akuma, twisty amanozako, fulgur ovid, and pretty much every holo vtuber would count (and to a lesser degree every corporate vtuber)
if you see drag artistry as an element of an entertainer’s performance then mori calliope, finana ryugu, ren zotto, aster arcadia and uki violeta would count
if you see drag artistry as aesthetic/style of the person behind the screen then k9kuro, quinn benet’s vtuber model, cyyu, randon neuring, and porcelainmaid would count
but the point i’m trying to get at here is that drag blends appearance and entertainment together by satirizing or emphasizing gender, right? and that can be entertaining through all sorts of mediums which includes standard vtuber activities like streams. of course it’s up to the vtuber themself to declare themself a drag artist or not but if i woke up tomorrow and saw gawr gura added “bio queen” to her twitter bio i… really would not be surprised
so if someone could edit the “after a long night of hooking” audio on top of zali’s debut lore i’d appreciate it

09.01.24 first of these of the year! im late to the party but i just got apple music back (in a 2 month trial of course im not paying for shit) and turns out:
my top artist of the year was orville peck<3 love him. its because i discovered like a year late, ‘bronco’. its fucking amazing
my top song was ‘la cumbia del mole’. that last chorus makes me go !!!!!
my top genre was… fucking soundtracks?!! apparently!??!! then a-pop, then ORIGINAL SCORES??!!! then j-pop, then country<3
anyway. back to the songs. this is also kinda the juanga edition? apparently!
el principio / juan gabriel: i just listened to the studio version and wow its just as amazing as the live! i adore these lyrics man: not everyone has the luck to be born and to live / all who sing and dance, to hell wont have to go…..
bellas artes popurrís / juan gabriel: i’ve talked about the ‘hasta que te conoci popurrí’ before (because its my favorite fucking song ever ever) but all those medleys that are only available in music videos? they fucking rock too. i just danced to the ‘ya no me vuelvo a enamorar/quédate conmigo esta noche/tenías que ser tan cruel/…’ one and WOW
cuando quieras déjame / juan gabriel: i fucking adore this one because you can feel SURROUNDED by the orchestra, by the chorus!! love the lyrics of pretending not to care about being left alone, in combo with the absolute essence of party and joy
dancing queen / philharmonia orchestra & carl davis: same reason. full immersion in absolute joy
tepepa… viva la revolución / ennio morricone: i was looking for another soundtrack but ended up stumbling upon this one, and got fascinated by the rhythm and this feeling of marching in this one. i gotta look more into this guys stuff…!
thats what i want / lil nas x: and yes. thats what i want. literally captures how i feel about… that. thanks man.

List 5 things that make you happy and send this to the last 10 people who liked/reblogged something from you. Get to know your followers and mutuals!
Hiii @ner-vod!
5 things that make me happy.... Hmm. It's kind of hard to answer this at the moment because I'm quite depressed lately, but there are definitely some things that make my days much more bearable and enjoyable.
5. Studying Japanese
I've been studying Japanese for the past 4 years, and managed to pass N3 December 2022. I started just because I found it fun and to challenge the mindset that you can't learn difficult languages as an adult, and have kept up with it since! I genuinely enjoy learning it, teasing out the small subtleties of the language, and using it to communicate with others!
Recently, I've been watching JBL without subtitles to get used to it, with some mixed results haha, but I can definitely follow along much better! I watched the Utsukushii Kare movie at Bucheon International Film Festival last year with only korean subtitles (I don't speak any Korean) and managed to understand the plot okay!
4. Discovering new queer media
I think we've been blessed with new and more mainstream forms of queer media the past few years, especially the past 5-10 years. Teenage me who only really had Junjou Romantica and Queer Eye could NOT have imagined something like Young Royals or Skam, European queer dramas, becoming so mainstream. I can't believe we got the Given and Cherry Magic animes! I still can't quite comprehend that we have such incredible openly queer musicians. Some of my favorites at the moment are Rina Sawayama, Orville Peck, Lil Nas X, Samantha Hudson (please check out this Spanish artist!!), among others. And, of course, Southeast Asian Boys Love has taken the world by storm, to my utter joy! I'm so happy that we've seen the genre evolve so much, with many more voices joining behind and in front of the cameras.
3. Eating good food
I'm a huge food lover, and I love both making and eating new dishes. When I went to Korea last summer, I was having the time of my life just discovering delicious, cheap meals that I'd never tried before. Now that I'm at university at [school] with so many international students, we often have lovely pot lucks and all share food together. I'm happy that I'm at a point of my eating disorder recovery journey where I still struggle, but I get to enjoy food more.
2. Helping people
Last year, I finally worked for the first time as a psychologist. It was only an internship, but I got to directly aid others who were struggling, and it was an incredible experience. It's just so world-changing to see and hear people, and give them all you can. I was also part of my student union at undergrad, and loved seeing my impact on students who might have otherwise struggled. I think realizing how much I love making a contribution to others has made me more aware of what I want to work in once I graduate my master's.
My loved ones
Especially my girlfriend, closest friends (hey there @oatmealcoloured) and family. I truly would not be here without them, period. They're the only things that keep me going sometimes. Thank you.

We absolutely should get to spend more time being incredibly normal with head canons over the latest hot take or whatever. Your wish is my command: Do you have head canons for interactions between Lestat and Daniel either at Auvergne or Trinity Gate, cause I firmly believe there was a period where they were bros comparing notes on Armand, to Armand's eternal chagrin XD
Also, a more writing related question: Do you write to songs / with song lyrics in mind and, if you do, do you have suggestions of artists/songs outside of the incredible Depeche Mode?
I just see them as the best of bros, honestly. Lestat is an agent of chaos, Daniel is down to do anything exciting. If Louis and Armand were in a 'stay in with a book' kind of mood the two of them could hit the town and find some kind of trouble to get into. Also I know fandom sees Daniel as being great with tech but he's technically a boomer, and I think once you get past the iphone 6 he'd be of the 'what's the point of coming out with new versions, they do the same shit in a more confusing way' opinion and he and Lestat could sit around and bitch about newfangled tech stuff together.
But to the point- big yes about them talking about Armand. Especially if Lestat finally cracked and moaned to Daniel about how he keeps trying to start something with Armand but every time things go awry, they end up in a fight, and now Lestat feels hopeless about ever going from the limbo that they're in to becoming proper lovers.
Daniel's advice? "Have you ever tried just....being normal and asking him on a date?"
And no. No, Lestat has not.
(He immediately goes and does just that. Miraculously, it works. And now Lestat owes Daniel a major solid for giving him the same advice that Louis has given him all along but he's blown off because "ugh, Louis, how do you know anything about matters of the heart". Meanwhile Louis has had a longer romantic relationship with Armand than Lestat ever has so like...go figure lol)
[also also one night Lestat and Daniel go out and drink some drunk's blood and, wasted again for the first time in decades, Daniel lays one on him because look, he was a hot rockstar, and mortal Daniel had some rock n roll fantasies he never got to live out okay? Lestat is very flattered and totally lords this over Armand every chance he gets.]
To your point about song lyrics: I write first, and then when I'm driving and something strikes me I pick the lyric title. Very rarely have I ever had a song feel like a great theme before I had the story itself in mind.
Here are my two favorite 80's playlists that have inspired me for Armand/Daniel stuff :)
80's Goth Club
Synthpop Classics
Both have some moody, sexy stuff on them about obsession. Outside of that my taste ranges from metal to classical to stuff like Orville Peck. There's very little that I don't like lol

1️⃣ First song/artist you remember liking: Werewolves of London by Warren Zevon, which, fun fact, you can hear sampled in the beginning of All Summer Long by Kid Rock
👶 Middle school anthem (age 11-13): The entire Riot! album by Paramore.
🚗 Roadtrip must have song: Ventura Highway by America or anything Fleetwood Mac honestly... Although I do enjoy listening to TWRP on the road, too...
🙈 Guilty pleasure artist: I listen to too many different artists so it's hard to say... I do like me a good country some every so often though.
💯 I know all the lyrics to: Carry On My Wayward Son by Kansas, because it plays on the local radio station all the time at work.
😭 A song that makes you cry: I Want a Mom from the Rugrats movie or Pets by TWRP, for different reasons.
🤬 A song to yell to: I'm Not Okay (I Promise) by MCR.
❤️‍🔥 Current favorite music video: Daytona Sand by Orville Peck, although I also like the one for Bright Blue Sky by TWRP and I'll confess I like the one for the Everybody Wants To Rule The World cover NSP did... Mostly because the old TWRP costumes amuse me (Phobos in particular).
🥰 Current favorite band: It's a tie between Ghost and TWRP tbh, because they have different vibes, but also the members of TWRP are Ghost fans so...
🏟 Would kill to see them live/again: TWRP and Ghost.
🏝 If you could listen to one song for the rest of your life: Variety is the spice of life, and I honestly think I would go batty having to hear the same song on repeat too many times...
🔄 Stuck on repeat: ...That said. Gimme Gimme Gimme by ABBA, but it's the BDG parody version.

oh, my poor dear. :-( i’m sure you’ll be able to relax soon. i, too, have been going through a bit of brain fog, but i took a nice warm shower and that seemed to help, if only a little bit. perhaps it’ll help you, as well.
but, despite your claims of normalcy, you sound very interesting. very intelligent, too. i’ve never been an artist, i’ve always loved art, but i’m just not very good at it. i would love to see yours. i’m sure you’re the most talented pup.
(it does baffle me how you draw with paws! what a mystery. hehe.)
you say you enjoy music? what are your favorite songs? the last song i listened to was landslide by fleetwood mac, which is coincidentally my favorite. i also enjoy the band ghost quartet, the artists lucy dacus, amanda palmer, and the band florence and the machine.
do you know any of these? have you listened to them? if not, you should. i believe you would like them.
your idea for dinner sounds absolutely lovely. you’re making me hungry — sadly, i’ll have to settle for leftovers tonight. if only i had a handsome puppyboy to make me dinner. sigh.
and stop with all this “i don’t deserve it” nonsense. you’re absolutely perfect. after all, my taste is exquisite, and i enjoy you. you wouldn’t insult my taste by insulting yourself, now, would you?
before i sign off, a poem (not written by me) for you.
“it's funny to think that we're strangers and you're sitting in some other room in some other house
maybe even in some other country thinking about things that won't even cross my mind.
it's funny to think that you're out there dreaming and loving and wishing upon the same stars that i look up at when night falls like a curtain over the horizon.
it's funny to think that someday you will love me but today you have no idea who i am.
p.s. when the time comes, i will love you too.”
i find it particularly fitting. <3
- yours truly, lavender.
Woooof standing in a hot shower sounds amazing actually. Think I’ll do my nightly stretches and take one arf arf arf
Ahhh, I’m flattered 🥺 I uploaded a page of sketches about a week ago, it’s, uh, quite different from my usual subject matter haha but I had a lot of fun with it and I love how it came out. Check my jasperbarks tag and it should be in there!
(Also.. a whole lot of tape haha wag wag wag!)
Favorite song is a hard question, but The River by King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard has to be in my top 10. Bit of a long one, but I love a jam sesh songs. King Gizz has to be one of my favorite bands, but I’ve also been listening to a lot of Hozier (to someone from a warm climate / first time), Covey (skittish cat), and Orville Peck (roses are falling).
Dudddde yes Lucy Dacus and Amanda Palmer are awesome! Hot & Heavy is a banger. Florence and The Machine has some good hits too. You’ve got great taste wag wag wag!! I haven’t heard of Ghost Quartet but I listened to starchild and I like it!
Ahhh h h, my apologies, you’re absolutely right, I would hate to insult someone as sweet as you. Shy puppy ears 🥺 I take it back.
Hrrmfff I am um. Blushing very much this is a very sweet poem 🥺 thank you for sending it. I will be reading it 20 times.
Look at the moon tonight, lavender, I’ll be looking at it too <3

Alfie's End of Year Rec List 2023
Out of 447,090 words and 141 total fics, this year I wrote a whole 224k and 78 fics, which is a lot more than last year. I wrote for 10 different ships this year, including 3 new ones. Yay for progress, I guess.
Anyway, to celebrate a rather productive year here at the_oncoming_stormageddon's AO3 dashboard, I've decided to compile a list of all of my favorite fics that I would reccommend :D number three will shock you!
In a shocking turn of events, I lied, sorry. This is about my graphs. It's always about my graphs. All graphs are up to date as of 12/21/2023, and there isn't even a missing word somewhere that has to be accounted for!
(Did I type all of this up, realize I had another fic to post, and then have to go back in and fix everything? ...perhaps)
Anyway. Let's start with Taylor Swift.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As always, "Other" corresponds to fics with titles from other artists, "Non-Album" refers to titles from Taylor Swift songs that aren't on an album or are unreleased, and "None" refers to titles that weren't from any lyrics. Orville Peck and Maisie Peter were the big contributors to the "other" category this year. The second graph shows the percent of the number of fics, while the first graph is the combined word count. Also, I did have 1 fic with an If This Was a Movie title, and I categorized it under "Speak Now TV" instead of Fearless TV. Yell at me about it in the comments if you really care, since it's technically incorrect.
Last year, I had a big Fearless slice because of the Hey Stephen series, and it was kind of surprising to me to see how much I slowed down in doing those, with Fearless only having 4 fics to its name. The disparity between the number and word count of the evermore was a little odd to me, until I realized that my longest fic ever (Tuesday Night at Olive Garden, a destiel murder mystery) was named after an evermore song. One thing that did not surprise me was folklore only having 1 fic, because that is my least favorite album.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So...the destiel thing...
The SPN hyperfixation took hold of me in Feb/March of this year and has not let go yet. Looking at my all-time graphs (where its about 33%/40% destiel/solangelo for word count), I didn't think it was that bad, but plugging in the numbers for just this year...uh, yeah. It's that bad. Sorry.
Tumblr media
I had a really strong streak of posting solangelo every month until March hit. Again, destiel hyperfixation in visual form. This year, I wrote lokius (L/MMM, from the show Loki) and sterek (DH/SS, from the show Teen Wolf) for the first time. I also posted destiel (C/DW) for the first time (the bad destiel fics of middle school alfie are staying in locked docs where they belong).
As expected, I had a bit of a drop-off in the summer months, but it was surprising for me to see that it never went back up after school started again. Last year, I had a huge spike in September, October, and December, but this year stayed relatively mellow. Next year, I'd really like to see which trend I follow monthly.
Anyway, that's the end of the graphs I have prepared for you (I will spare yall from the more complicated ones). Next year, I'd really like to start finishing up some of the unresolved fics and series I have (mostly solangelo ones that got drowned in the destiel flood). I'm doing my first ever big bang (for the Professor Layton fandom), so katriana (KL/EP) will make it onto my graphs for next year, as will destiel and solangelo.
Thanks for reading & I hope you enjoyed :D congrats on making it to 2024!

I saw the ask you sent to Mal about The Unrighteous Brothers cover of Unchained Melody, and let me just say, THANK YOU FOR REMINDING ME OF THIS!!! I fell in love with their collaboration last summer and then promptly forgot about it lol. Paul and Orville's voices are made to be right night to each other's. Also, I need to ask now, what are your favorite songs from Orville Peck and Paul Cauthen (as individual artists)???
I am SO glad I could remind you of it. You’re absolutely correct their voices are MADE to be next to each others (if they don’t release more I’m going to be crushed, like could you imagine a can’t help falling in love cover??).
I’ll be honest I don’t know too too much by Paul but I do really like Cocaine Country Dancing (it’s so stupid but I love that). I’m absolutely going to throw him on tomorrow at work, so I’ll have a better answer later!
Orville however my favourite songs are Queen of the Rodeo, Legends Never Die, and Drive Me, Crazy (though honestly Show Pony is an incredible EP and has no misses, like he has Queen Shania on one!!)
And now I need to ask, what are your favourites???

I love this post. https://www.tumblr.com/drew-marsinvestigations/724745820429320192?source=share
I'm from the south, and I haven't listened to country music in so long because none of it feels authentic to my experience or beliefs. I listened to Tyler Childers for the first time today. I loved it. It makes me so nostalgic for the music I grew up listening to. Do you have any recommendations for more songs/artists with this type of music?
oh boy do i this is like one of my favorite things to talk about
putting this above the cut because they deserve the promotion:
Black Opry Revue is a collective of Black country and country adjacent artists that tours, offers artist residencies for Black artists, and generally does fantastic work promoting Black performers in a really white dominated industry. i've seen a set of theirs live and can't recommend them enough !! they are a great place to start for finding artists that fall outside the country mainstream :)
more specific recs below
i would say that tyler and zach bryan are two of the biggest stars of the country/appalachian revival rn and both deserve the praise they get
a tyler gem i would recommend is follow you to virgie live at red barn (really that whole album, there are no skips on it)
zach bryan's live version of revival on his all my homies hate ticket master red rocks recording never fails to make me want to go to a concert posthaste
orville peck is pretty big on tumblr and is a more country-western sound if you like that better! he has some incredible good music that handles topics like bisexuality and relationship violence with a lot of nuance and grace (he also has plenty of fun ones, but i like that he's not afraid to handle difficult topics too)
hexie mountains is one of my favorites by him because it deals with complications around home and distance in ways i love
ok now for some people who aren't as big on here but deserve all our love <3
adia victoria is FANTASTIC and has some really incredible music with a little bit of a darker, more gothic sound
stuck in the south is the obvious place to start
in the pines is also amazing and follows in the sacred country tradition of talking about the grittier sides of the south and trying to understand where you fit into all of that
valerie june is also a little bit less straight-country but she's doing some really cool stuff and she never fails to make me pull out my most exaggerated twang. her voice is amazing
astral plane is my favorite of hers
shakedown never fails to make me dance
i only recently discovered wyatt flores but i love the rasp in his voice on
please don't go
jason isbell has been around for a while and released music as a solo act and with jason isbell and the 400 unit.
morgan wallen (don't bother with him he Sucks) released a cover of his song cover me up that got a ton of press but the original is lightyears ahead of the cover
the nashville sound is no skips album from him
hope the high road off this album fulfills the niche for me i think this year does for a lot of other people
le siren isn't all county but i love her music
the banjo on yikes! Gets me as a country girlie
i saw kyshona live and her voice is UNbelievable
my own grave is my personal fav
the turnpike troubadors have plenty of bangers including
a long way from your heart which is another no skip album
some other bangers:
jersey giant - elle king
georgia to texas - leon bridges (the only reason he didn't get his own section is he's really more r n b but this song is about being from the south so it counts)
just let go - sturgill simpson (this guy's music is all over the place in the best way, and he produced some of tyler's stuff if you like that)
a life where we work out - flatland cavalry ft kaitlin butts
also everyone above is a modern artist but it goes without saying that classic country is full of people with interesting things to say that isn't the boot-licking-bro-country-sound folsom prison blues, harper valley pta, 9 to 5, the pill, cowboys are frequently secretly fond of each other, etc are all classics for a reason !!
finally rainbow kitten surprise really aren't country, but they are a queer band from north carolina and everyone should watch their hide music video which is about being queer in the south and features several drag queens coming out to their families
in conclusion: yeehaw

My Spotify Wrapped revealed that Orville Peck is my toddler's favorite artist. The Replacements, Mitski, and Queen are also up there. So are the Beach Boys, mainly because of Barbara Ann, becaue that was her wake-up song for a couple of months.
Abba and Nick Shoulders ALMOST made it, and I'm pretty sure Bleachers and Lorde and the Psychedelic Furs and Gin Blossoms were close, as well. She absolutely loves this one old Gene Autry song, too. Also the music box lullaby versions of various songs.
I mean, of course there are typical toddler songs in her favorites, like Monster in my Mirror (wubba wubba), Baby Beluga, Wheels on the Bus, The Bubble Gum Song, and so on, but a lot of those we listen to on YouTube instead of Spotify.
Fun fact: The first time she stood up unsupported to dance was to a live Paul Westerberg recording. She has great (and varied) taste in music!

01.02.24 im making my peace with knowing my favorite musical genre are fucking soundtracks
cabaret / liza minelli: this is the definition of fantastic. wow. almost desperately lively. which i guess fits the scene, but i havent watched the movie:( also, that ‘tomorrow belongs to me’? that was fucking scary. made me feel surrounded…..
let me drown / orville peck: what a voice, man. i need to listen to him live eventually. feels like he’s so lost…. what vulnerability!
pimp / bacao rhythm & steel band: have yall seen ‘anatomy of a fall’? it’s so immersive, it had me transfixed. and well. this 50 cent cover is really catchy, what can i say
yunhi kat jaayega / kumar sanu & alka yagnik: one day i felt like listening to something bollywood because i like the grand scale of some of their musicals. stumbled upon this song from ‘hum hain rahi pyar ke’ and loved it. i didnt even know what the movie was about until a couple of seconds ago
portuguese dance ii / jerskin fendrix: this one is from ‘poor things’. witnessing a person grow and develop into themselves in 2 hours was fascinating, and so was the soundtrack. i really liked some of the design choices for the spaces, but i grew tired of the oversaturated skies and how clear it was that all exterior scenes were sets. i dont like when you can feel the real scale in how the fictional scale is presented
perfect illusion / lady gaga: i was never really a stan, but i did make my twitter account just so i could vote for gaga in whatever awards. and saying she’s my favorite artist is also my Official Stance, but i dont listen much to her (old policy of mine so i dont get tired of the songs i really really like, u know?). but this song got pulled of streaming for like a day or two, and then i listened to it, and bam. its so fun!!!! have yall seen the video of her in the desert for this one? it really sums up the energy. thx joanne

woah i like never get asks on this page ok heyyy!!!
favorite concert gotta go to Orville Peck <3 i almost had barricade and went a little crazy and head-butted a guy during any turn
i really wanted to go see ringo starr considering age and the fact that he could quit touring soon but i missed cheap tickets and cannot afford them now :( also hozier, but i was in queue for that and got fucked over </3 beyond that gonna try to see indigo de souza in september 💪💪💪
im unsure of if this questions asking like if i cant afford or if the persons dead so...........ill stick with the dead celebrity one cuz i have a Many. i would kill myself 7 times over to see the beatles, prince, mike nesmith, janis joplin, jimi hendrix, david bowie, frank sinatra, johnny cash, leonard cohen </3 essentially 98% of my favorite artists are dead now quite tragic for me really
