The more research I do for worldbuilding in MDZS the more research I want to do for worldbuilding in MDZS like. Ugh! Obviously any time you start looking into another culture’s folk magic and spiritual practices you’re going to end up absolutely nose-deep in an ocean of incredibly fascinating and complex ideas and concepts and if you’re a nerd like me that’s always going to feel like discovering a brand new playground for the first time but it’s so much worse when I have specific ideas for ways I want to utilize that knowlege.

Like! Did you know! That Daoist talismans (Fulu 符箓) are not just written incantations based off of Hanzi the way that I guess I always kind of assumed they were -- they’re ideographs that combine written language with pictures and symbols, and even the language parts do not strictly need to match the way the character is supposed to be written. It’s like a code, a cypher language made in a combination of pictographs and altered characters that are then stacked and stitched together, and the specific method for creating these incantations differed from sect to sect! It was a secret, the exact structure and rules to your sect’s specific code was different than other sects might use!

Which means I could theoretically come up with the cypher systems that each of the MDZS sects use for their talismans and even come up with strengths and weaknesses and stuff for each of them! Which is so cool

But first I need to know more about real-world Fulu and their structure and that requires so much reading. Do I have time? Can I make time?

I was rambling on the issue of museums and human remains and how certain populations are more likely to have their bodies put on display to be gawked at and then went "well I guess the Pompeii casts were of Europeans. there are bones in there right?" and Googled it to make sure, at which point I confirmed that yes there are bones in there, but more interestingly DNA testing revealed that a cast of an adult holding a child everyone assumed was a mother and child were, in fact, a man and a kid entirely unrelated to him. Honestly that's more moving to me. Maybe they were connected in a way other than blood, but maybe a stranger saw a child when the world was ending and thought the one thing he could do was hold them.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again

Katniss is such an unreliable narrator. She says "Then something unexpected happens. At least, I don't expect it because I don't think of District 12 as a place that cares about me" girl you deliver strawberries to the Mayor, you hunt and trade for the district, when you fell at Prim being chosen someone caught you, when you went to Prim people parted for you, when you volunteered EVERYONE stopped. Peeta buring the bread and tossing some to her then taking a beating from his mom is a HUGE thing in the books.#he used his resources to help her like you all said someone should.#district 12 DID (rip) care about Katniss before the hunger games. why do you think she was allowed to hunt? or how her trades were good #these are the little ways 12 can shows Katniss they love her. but again Katniss doesn't see this and YES its because she had ptsd before the #hunger games as well. i swear some of you make it seem like d12 was all living a life of luxury and glaring down at Katniss.#other things that show Katniss is in hight standing with at least her people of d12 is her dad was known enough through d12 for peeta dad to #comment on his singing along with his commenting on her mom. also her mom is a healer in the community. yeah her parents arnt the top but #of d12 but they are/were definitely high staning in the Seam.

i used to be so good at writing strong, thoroughly-researched, thoroughly-edited essays.

as a kid in hs, my teacher literally came up to me, holding my 40 page essay on the intersection of the European witch hunts and capitalism/exploitation/gender roles (it was supposed to be 7 pages...whoops) and went like "this is literally a master's-degree level thesis. what are you doing?? you could literally use this as your final dissertation in a master's program, what the fuck."
