I’m a Size Medium, Thanks - 2
Part one: https://www.tumblr.com/snaileer/766471879423885312/im-a-size-medium-thanks
Danny stares into the eyes of what has got to be the grumpiest looking 12-14?10? How tall are children?- year old he’s ever met. And he grew up with Sam!
Danny looks back through the door, hoping to everything that an adult walks through. He is disappointed.
“Well?” The boy snaps, foot tapping.
“Uh, can I help.. you?” Danny says, voice ticking up. That’s what you’re supposed to say at a job right? Or maybe the kid wasn’t supposed to be here, “Do you need to call someone…?” He hopes not, he doesn’t know how or if the shop has a phone, and his… well his is wired through a realm of the dead so enough said there.
“My name is Damian Wayne.” He says primly. And expectantly.
Danny looks outside again, past the neon sign he specifically hadn’t turned on, then back at the Damian kid, blinking. There’s no way this was that ‘Mr.Wayne.’
The kid rolls his eyes impressively well then drops his glare back onto Danny, “Has this absurd incense burned away whatever meager sense you were born with? I am here to have a so-called ‘reading’ with a medium.”
If Danny hadn’t seen this Damian kid walk in with three whisps of shades wrapped around his arms, Danny would have questioned why, but he did, so he doesn’t.
He does, however, say: “Aren’t you a little young… to be like.. talking about death or something?” Though honestly, the incense is a real concern, Danny hadn’t even lit any today, Claire had just left it burning and the whole room was saturated.
“Will you fulfill your job description or not, you peasant?” The kid grits out.
Danny would really rather not. Like really rather not. But nOoo, here he was, waiting for a portal that could show up at any time, pretending he was a medium for a 7 year old just because he could talk to ghosts.
Danny sighs and drags himself around the counter to go into Claire’s weird little seance room. Maybe the fumes will kill him before the embarrassment does.
The kid follows.
Danny drops himself into Claire’s chair with weirdly plush armrests for still being so uncomfortable.
“Alright then, let’s get this over with. I’m Danny, the -ugh- medium. Whatdya wanna know?” Danny says as he kicks his leg out to hit a shade getting agitated and grabby by Damian’s feet. They got way too much of a spiritual boost from this room for Danny to be comfortable with it.
Damian watches him with a raised eyebrow, still not sitting down, “Aren’t you meant to lead the seance?”
Danny’s lip curls in distaste, he huffs a sigh and lets his shoulders drop, opening his mouth to tell this 9-year old something easy about one of his shades and be done-
He spots a sticky note stuck on the crystal ball.
-Danny, don’t forget, the showmanship is important! I trust you know how to meet expectations! Happy first day!
- Claire <3
Danny feels his face go deadpan. He was going to have this woman committed. That’s what he was going to do. She could be studied for the degenerative cognitive effects of being freaking bazonkers.
Danny plucks the note off the crystal ball and crumples it, letting the trash drop to the abyss that is Claire’s plush carpet.
He sighs, looking back up at Damian. The kid snaps his head towards him from where he’d been poking around the curtained walls- weirdo- but Danny beats him to the snappy comment.
“You got any spiritually charged items? Or like… something?” Danny says, taking a guess, he can make the thingy glow, say some nonsense, get paid, and close.
Damian narrows his eyes at him, but slowly moves to sit in the other chair, perched on the edge of the seat. He pulls something from his pocket and sets it on the table.
Pearls.
It’s a clump of shiny white pearls.
Absolutely dripping in ectoplasmic blood stains. So lovely.
Does Claire have biohazard gloves because oh gosh-
Danny hesitantly reaches for the pearls, lifting the strand between two fingers as he looks between it and the 12 year old. “You sure this is what you want to ask about?”
The kid’s glare turns challenging, mocking, “What? Admitting you are nothing but a charlatan?”
Danny grimaces, “Not quite. I mean…” He looks at the pearls again, then at the shade trying to hack away at the kids neck, “There’s definitely someone or something attached to this it’s just… not .. yours.”
“Tt,” the boy clicks his tongue at him, “and how exactly would you know that, charlatan?” Damian levels a mocking look up and down at him.
Danny’s eye twitches as he grimaces a smile, “Part of the job-“ brat. Danny doesn’t say that. Danny can’t say that. Danny has to deal with death obsessed TODDLERS who want to talk about some rando’s gruesome murder just so he can eat tonight. Or find somewhere to sleep. He doubts this will be enough for both.
Maybe if he’s dramatic enough.
Alright get to it then, Danny.
He sighs, dimming the light with Claire’s little remote- he is not so far gone as to turn them green like she had- and actually focusing his energy on the pearl necklace.
“What are you-“
Danny holds up a finger at Damian to silence him, which surprisingly works. He closes his eyes and starts trying to absorb the ectoplasmic remains as slowly as he can.
Feelings of course come with it and- well what’d ya know, he can definitely feel this attached to a ghost somewhere in this city.
“It’s a woman’s… younger than she should have been when she…”
He can hear Damian scoff, “Obviously, anyone could tell me that.”
Danny rolls his eyes under his eyelids, debating the merits of opening one to glare at him when his eyes are definitely glowing.
“She’s still here but-“ Danny says instead, trying to pull on the connection wandering out into the streets, “She can’t come here here.”
“What do you mean?” The boy snaps.
Danny tries to focus harder on it himself, he’s never done this before, tried to find or community with a ghost from an object… it was like Pointdexter and his mirror.
“She’s stuck somewhere… somewhere more important.. it’s dark and narrow and Danny mentally rears back as images flash into his mind. Accompanied of course by a woman’s scream.
An alley. A gun. A man stepping in front of her to protect her- no not her- a kid- Damian- not Damian- looks like-
Danny opens his eyes and drops the necklace. There’s barely any ectoplasm left on it.
Fine with him, he never wants to touch it again.
“Well?” An impatient voice asks and- oh yeah that’s right, the rude ass kid.
Danny pushes the pearls across the table with a finger and looks up at him, “Woman in an alley, that familiar to you?”
Damian’s eyes narrow, “Anyone who knows who I am could tell me the same.”
Danny snaps, “I don’t-!“ This is a child Danny, a child, “Well she was scared for the kid, and now is… proud of him? There’s a lot of concern there, but she still watches him I guess, so that’s all I got for ya.”
Damian scrutinizes him for a minute, silent. Darn, weren’t mediums supposed to be vague as heck so that anything could apply and the person would find their own meaning? But did it count if he was just translating the vibes off a shade half a city away?
“This is…. acceptable.”
Danny nearly sags in relief and moves to stand, “Cool, then-“
“Wait.” The kid holds up a hand, “You said something regarding a disparity in the proposed ownership of the apparition you believed to be related to this jewelry.”
Danny blinks at him dumbly.
Damian scoffs again, “That the apparition attached to this necklace was ‘not mine,’ as you said??” He snarks, putting air quotes up.
Danny slowly sinks back down into the chair. “… Well yeah I mean..” does he tell this 8 year old about the slightly murderous shades he’s got around him? “You have… you have a couple… apparations… yourself. Not related to the pearls that is.” Danny says hesitantly, eyes skipping over said shades.
Damian jerks his head to follow his eyes and Danny shirks back, eyes back on the kid.
“Who are they? Tell me now,” Damian demands, standing to loom over the table.
Danny puts his hands up in surrender, “Whoa, I don’t know about that, they don’t really seem too happy with you-“ Another one tries to slice his hand through Damian’s neck, “I think you did something to them or made them angry at some point. I don’t really think you should try to contact them-“ Danny winces, that could end very badly. Thank goodness for limited ectoplasm access.
Meanwhile, his answer seems to have only made Damian more upset, his eyes wide as he stares down at Danny.
Suddenly the kid turns and stamps towards the door, leaving Danny to hurriedly push the chair out and chase after him to the main room.
Except-
When he gets there Damian is already shooting hushed insults at a man standing amongst the crystals.
The man looks vaguely like Damian, black hair, blue eyes, lithe build, and oh also- surrounded by shades of course.
These ones seem less vicious at least.
Please don’t be here for him. Please don’t be here for him.
Danny really doesn’t want to try and fake his way through another hour or however long it’s been of that.
“Hey there! I’m Dick, Damian’s brother!” The man says suddenly, pushing Damian aside and coming forward with a cheery grin, “Thanks for humoring him!”
Danny tilts his head to see Damian’s scowling face behind the man. Right.
“Uh huh… I’m Danny.” He says, trying not to be distracted by what he’s pretty sure is a baby elephant’s ghost behind him.
“You’re the medium right? We were just so interested to see if that old family heirloom would have anything or not. We-“
“We?” Damian cuts him off with a scoff, “I will meet you in the vehicle Richard. I will not spend another minute in this house of charlatans.”
They both watch as the kid turns and stomps out the door, uncrossing his arms only to open the door and stomp out. The stupid bell rings merrily.
This time it’s not Danny who sighs.
“I wish he wouldn’t say things like that,” Dick says wearily, “I grew up in places like this.” There’s a note of nostalgia to his voice. Danny just eyes the bowl of ‘fertility’ crystals warily.
Dick must see him do it because he huffs a laugh, “I’m Roma, Romani that is. I grew up in a circus originally,” he explains, “So psychic places always just kinda remind me of my auntie’s tents.”
Danny glances at the elephant shaped ghost again, “Wow that makes so much sense actually.”
The guy raises a confused eyebrow at him.
Danny coughs awkwardly, waving it away, “So, money?” He claps, “I’m guessing you’re paying since Damian is…” Danny trails off, opting not to make a final guess on age and embarrass himself.
Dick laughs again and they go over to the counter, “Yep, here-“ He pulls out his wallet, rifling through cash before pulling some out, “Cash only yeah? This should be enough.”
Danny stares at the stack of slightly rumpled bills, “But- huh?…” that was… that was so much…
“Oh I added extra since I’m sure he probably said some things he shouldn’t have, don’t worry about it.”
Dick is already halfway out the door when Danny reloads and jerks upwards, “Wai-“
Could Danny really stop him? Should he? He needed this money but… he stops to count it. $20..40..60..80..100..120….140……160….180……….$200.
Danny blanches. He lurches for the door, no way he can take this much money just for basically acting as a glorified ecto-translator.
Danny stops in his tracks as he steps outside the shop and spots Dick and Damian speaking to a third, much older person, over the hood of a sleek black car.
This person, of course, also has several, several, shades around them.
What the hell was wrong with this family?
Damian turns and glares his way.
Oh ancients what if they were part of the mob or something.
Danny spins around on his heel-
And smacks straight into the glass door of the shop.
…
Ow.
Danny rubs his nose as he fumbles around for the door handle, acutely aware the death covered family was probably staring at him.
He grabs the handle and pulls-
Danny freezes, hand on his sore face stopping. He opens his eyes as he yanks again. Nothing.
Oh heck, he just locked himself out didn’t he?
No please no, they were so definitely still staring, no way they weren’t. Danny pulls again and it finally-
He looks at the door handle in his hand.
Then at the door still closed in front of him.
Then back at the door handle.
Just the door handle.
Crap.
Danny nearly weeps, clumsily fitting the door handle back on and still adamantly refusing to look and see if Damian and his absurdly rich family has left yet. Other people on the street are also starting to stare. The same reason he can’t just use his powers.
He finally gets the handle back on and gingerly lets go of it.
Ok. Deep breath.
Claire warned you about this. With a sticky note, but all the same. Extra key is taped on the bottom of the fire hydrant right outside the shop. You’ve got this.
Danny turns, kneels, and frantically begins trying to find the key on the absurdly dirty fire hydrant.
His hands come away black with grime, but thankfully he has the key.
He puts it in the lock and turns it, hearing what may very well be the newest sound of his nightmares: a snap.
Most specifically the sound of the key snapping in Danny’s very hands.
Danny stared at the half of the key still held between his fingers.
Did he do something to this city? Was this his fault? Could he not just sit in a closet and wait for the portal to open and go home?
Danny sags against the door, and resigns himself to his fate. Maybe he can go get food… with the money he left on the counter. Great.
Danny peeks his eyes sideways and catches the guy, Dick, finally getting into their car.
Okay, just a tiny bit just a bit. Danny holds the key again, focuses on the lock in the door jam and….. intangible!
He yanks the door open and jumps inside, door closing against the flutters of quickly fading shades on the street.
And more than one scream at them but hey that’s not his problem.
Mostly.
Danny revels in the cool lighting of the shop, glaring at the stupid broken key in his grimy hands. He drops the useless bit of metal on the counter, pockets the cash and wipes his hands on the backside of one of Claire’s million wall curtains.
It leaves a black stain that basically disappears when Danny folds the fabric over it.
Oh well.
Technically the shop was still open.
And technically, Danny didn’t know if the lock did or didn’t work right now.
He went to find whatever storage closet Claire used to store her absurd number of crystals.
He finds it- finally- and using the keys he left in the store to begin with, he is able to unlock the perfect place to sleep tonight amongst several packages of…. Some kind of incense powder… or something. He doesn’t really care because that plan of hiding in a closet till the portal opens? Yeah, Danny’s putting that into action right the frick now.
He bends down to start to lay out his sweatshirt over the cardboard bed-to-be.
A bell rings in the distance.
Danny is going to destroy that bell on the door, he swears it.

pillow talk - spencer reid x fem!reader
a night well spent fizzles out into soft words exchanged in pink sheets.
genre: fluff wc: 1019 warnings: mentioned sex, their first time together, casual nudity, inexperienced reader, insecurities, reassurance
It was soft, comforting even. Of course intense because how else could your first time together be? It was him, after all. As you lay, heavy pants finally returning to normal, steady breaths, a hand comes up to smooth down your hair and a kiss is gently pressed to your head.
"How do you feel?" Spencer asks, his voice barely above a whisper.
It proves to be a difficult question. A response seems counterintuitive, like it would demean the moment into something that has to be assessed. An answer has to come, nonetheless.
"I don't know." And it's the truth.
He hums thoughtfully and nods, running a hand down your shoulder. "Good or bad?"
"Good... like my brain's empty. If that makes sense," you answer.
Your head, on Spencer's bare chest, does, in fact, feel foggy. Before today, you were both too scared of the intimacy. Something changed the moment you felt him move his grip from your hip to your waist, like he was worried that he might make you uncomfortable. You didn't want that. It happened only after convincing him that you wanted to go further than the usual groping and hand stuff. Now you're unsure how you feel. Having someone you've been seeing for a while suddenly inside you is bizarre and always will be. You also can't seem to shake that voice that sounds a lot like your friends, telling you that he'll leave after he gets what he wants. Your mind is simply a flurry of everything that anyone has ever told you about intimacy. With Spencer, it was different, though.
Your hand finds his and you mindlessly toy with his fingers as you murmur, "you've done this more than me, correct?"
"Correct."
"How do people usually feel?" you ask softly.
"Everybody's different. You don't need to feel good." He takes a breath and explains in a matter-of-fact tone, his hand lifting above your shoulder to gesture while he talks, "the rush of serotonin and dopamine into our system can leave some people feeling sad or tired once those neurotransmitters decrease."
You nod, finding yourself understanding. It has been a while since you've engaged in any form of intimacy.
"That makes sense."
He nods as his fingers drop to continue the irregular patterns on your arm. His chin rests on your head. "So? How do you feel?"
Again, there's no correct answer to his question. It's a complicated experience with complicated feelings attached. But one thing is for sure, "I'm happy."
"I'm glad. I am, too," he hums.
A smile floats over your lips before a thought occurs and you have an inkling as to how he'll choose to reply to it. Your head lifts and you turn so you're now partly on your side, giving you a perfect view of his face in the soft glow of the afternoon. With the curtains closed, his skin was basked in pale yellow light, the pink of your sheets contrasting the pink of his cheeks.
"Did I do good?" you grin.
He finds you gorgeous, your sickeningly sweet smile making him gaze down at you in pure awe. It's the complete and utter truth when he responds with, "very."
You can't help but tease, "best you've ever had?"
"Yes. I don't think you could've fumbled that badge of honour if you tried," he smiles, his hand gently cupping your cheek, a rough thumb wiping away invisible tears.
Something about the sentiment gets to you. After all, you're nothing but a hopeful romantic. But you're also just a girl.
"So, even if I was bad, you'd still lie and say I wasn't?" you raise your eyebrows and bat your eyelashes.
His eyes narrow but the smile on his face shows you that he's not really upset. "No... I meant that I think I like you too much to not enjoy everything you do."
"Oh," you flush. Why does he have to be so perfect?
The hand on your cheek moves up to brush some of your hair back. "Yeah, oh."
Spencer's different than the guys you've interacted with. He's everything that little girls everywhere dream of. He's Prince Charming. That's why when your lips meet his and the sheet falls back, his eyes never once glance down. Perhaps he's an agent and an individual with three PhDs but he's a gentleman above all else. He never once wants to make you feel like he's not here for you.
When your lips break apart with happy smiles on both of your faces, you take in just how silly he looks. His hair is messy from your fingers, his cheeks are flushed and—your favourite of all—he's covered up to his stomach in pink sheets. The giggle that leaves you is unnecessary and unasked for.
He can't help the smile that comes from hearing your laugh. "What?" he mutters, brows furrowed.
"You just look... so very silly in my bed," you explain, a lovesick grin on your face.
"Oh. Well, I can't help what you choose as interior design."
You sigh dramatically, shaking your head like a disappointed teacher, "I suppose you can't."
The smile on his lips only grows as you act your ass off to seem sad by his comment.
"Perhaps I should also purchase pink sheets?" he suggests jokingly, tucking yet another stray strand behind your ear.
"I really think you should. It would complement your room and it would make you think of me so that's a bonus," you nod. You're unable to stay serious, though, the corners of your mouth lifting despite your efforts.
Spencer nods back, his bottom lip pushing up as he hums decisively. "I'm sold, let's go to the store," he says with an impressively straight face.
You laugh hard, beaming up at him with nothing but pure joy. You find his commitment to the bit amusing and, honestly, endearing. He points his thumb towards the bedroom door with his eyebrows raised in a silent question. Playfully, your eyes roll and rest your face in the crook of his neck.
"I'll get pink sheets if you want me to," Spencer softly mutters.

obviously i can't enforce proper rules of what people "count" and i wouldn't wanna really gatekeep, but :D in my opinion! loosely i believe that if it is recognizably the same story, if it could keep the same title without it being problematic for the reader, i believe it does count. like i personally would allow for most comic/manga adaptations of shakespeare plays, even if they're abridged, to be "reading the plays" (even if not as plays).
perhaps maybe also with an asterisk on the amount of early-modern text honored versus original content infused by the new creator. like, i might say a novelization or prose retelling of the plays is different from comics, which as a form, all you really need to adapt is the dialogue and add your own visuals (which actors, directors, and stage crew already have to do for every production, even the most "faithful" ones). tales from shakespeare by charles and mary lamb, for example, might be a gray area, because they present the stories faithfully but in an entirely different medium, with necessary original narrativizing around it. but while not everyone may agree, i would consider the manga shakespeare series (which abridge but maintain the original language, and take liberties with their visual setting, as many directors do) to be essentially the same as reading the text or watching a stage adaptation—which are already two very different experiences with a theatrical work, and i chose to conflate them in this poll in order for maximum inclusivity.
and then there's the confounding factor of translation. some people talk down about the sparknotes no fear shakespeare series and other prose/modern "translations"—i never particularly enjoyed them myself, even as a beginner, because i think more general-reader-friendly series like barnes & noble shakespeare and the folger shakespeare series were better at helping me (emphasis on just me) appreciate the poetry of the plays and approach the difficulties of the language. perhaps i could've been a little bit snobbish about it; the sparknotes series does not aim to bastardize the verse, and it's still there on the adjoining page. yet, not everyone reads the verse to compare. but, if they're still reading the same story, in the same structure, but the text itself is totally altered, is that not still reading shakespeare? it's a philosophical question, but for the wider purposes and ideals of this poll, i would have to say yes, i think it is.
and obviously, obviously, translation into languages other than english must count. that's just common sense. not everyone can or should read or see the plays in the "original" language—but one can say that about that about 'modern translations' too, right? and philosophically, most artists and language lovers agree that in translation, something is always sacrificed; more is also added; all depending on the will and sensibilities of the particular translator. there will never be such a thing as a definitive translation of poetry. translations are arguably, in their own right, as much original works as any other adaptation or abridgement; they are changes to the text. still i think they count for this poll, unquestionably.
another interesting thing people have brought up is adaptations in children's literature, which i see most people discrediting if it's their own experience with the plays, but it probably depends on the book, imo. like i said, retelling something in prose narrative makes it fundamentally different to me, but i think it's wiggly where the line is, since there are a lot of children's works based on the plays that aim to preserve shakespeare's language, and many that purposefully do not. like sparknotes' no fear series versus folger editions, i think both should exist because they suit different purposes.
on the topic, though, i do wanna shout out shakespeare's first folio: a children's edition (2024) released by the shakespeare birthplace trust. i got a copy for both of my nieces for christmas this year. they're still a bit too young to read it with (both are under 2), but i just had to get it. the goal of the book isn't just to preserve the language, but they're actually formatted as playscripts! i find that to be such an interesting choice, and i can't wait to act them out with them and their toys someday. they are, however, suuuper abridged, like 10-15% of the original text at most, and certainly a lot of the magic of the full pieces is lost by boiling it down to its bare essentials, but its simplicity, obviously, is meant to benefit the young readers as much as possible.
would it count? would it count? i don't know! i'm certainly gonna say hell yeah it counts, when im playing cymbeline and the two gentlemen of verona with my little girls. but will it still count retroactively, when i hopefully get to view the plays more fully with them someday? i'm sure the first time i take them to shakespeare in the park, they're gonna feel like what they watched is substantially different from what's in their book, and in comparison, they might not feel like they've still experienced them in that medium that was perfectly sufficient before.
abridgements can certainly count, though, if you had a fulfilling engagement with it! there is always more to get out of these texts, and they are also often reduced to serve a particular audience or medium. there will never be an end of the ways to read shakespeare, so consider for yourself whatever is meaningful to you.
I'm curious about people's levels of familiarity; I intend no judgment or elitism and it's absolutely fine not to be a completionist, btw. I didn't think I would've intended to have read them all at age 25; it just sort of happened that after I passed the halfway point in the middle of 2023, I came out of a reading slump and was motivated to finish. Fwiw I consider myself a hobbyist (I am not involved in academia or professional theater) but I realize that that label is usually attributed to people with less experience.
I also have always loved seeing other bloggers' Shakespeare polls where they put certain plays or characters up against each other, but I'm often left wondering if it's really a 'fair' fight all the time if you're putting up something like Hamlet or Twelfth Night against one of the more obscure works, like the Winter's Tale. It's not a grave affront to vote in those polls if you don't know every play, but I am curious about it.
Please reblog for exposure if you vote; I would appreciate it a lot. Also feel free to elaborate on your own Shakespeare journey in tags, comments, reblogs, because I love to hear about other people's personal relationships to literature.
#image description in alt text#tl;dr have fun :D u count to me#im sure you didnt expect such a thesis lol. but i do find these things very interesting#glad i also got to talk about different editions and adaptations in here. i am somewhat of a purist with myself#and i was that very purposefully in my own reading of the plays. in fact i never saw one before reading one#1) bc i was intimidated by the prospect of not fully understanding what i was watching and#2) to feel like i organically formed my own relationship w the plays. sometimes my original interpretations have turned out to be unpopular#like for instance i didnt interpret harry hotspur's marriage in h4 pt 1 to be very loving and i was kinda surprised to figure out most ppl#like just classically disagree w me there. wow! what i interpreted as bickering most ppl view as witty banter. i see it now though#cont#but obviously i am very interested in the idea of nothing ever being original. yet how conservative should we be with what's shakespeare?#like i also see a lot of ppl bringing up like the lion king or she's the man just to say they DONT count it and yeah. id say thats osmosis#fully original scripts and settings are adaptations of the ideas and characters but not the play proper. imo#but not everything is so clear and i find the ambiguity fascinating. maybe thats the point! theater is adaptable#i had fun writing this could you tell

No Strings Attached [Ft. Billlie's Sheon and Tsuki]
Author's Note: Im out of Hiatus!!!
And finally the continuation of No Names Needed, fun fact - this idea of a sequel with both Tsuki and Sheon was in my brain for a long time, i only now found the inspiration, time and energy to write it.
By the time this will come out, it will be 2025 so happy new year everyone, hope yall thought about your resolutions and had the a blast for 2024, Soon also my writerversary will come as well (Feb 5th) so that is hype as well.
Lastly, just want to thank @defmaybe for helping with beta reading the fic, it kinda is quite a mess when it comes to plot but i honestly enjoyed writing this so much.
And without further ado, hope yall have a fun read
================================================
So after that entire situation at the club’s bathroom with the mysterious girl, a couple of questions are now stuck in your head:
Firstly, how did she manage to convince you for a second round at her place so easily?, It’s not like you were in the right headspace for any reason considering you just reviewed the best head of your life and you were excited to see more of her but still.
Second, what are the odds that just as you were ready to take off your shirt, her roommate just so happened to arrive from her shift? Having to sit quietly on their couch listening to the awkward argument of having to leave the dorm for tonight so her roommate could sleep in peace after a long shift.
And lastly: why are they now making out on the bed with their underwear only?
“Nghh…Sheon…” is the only her roommate (which you are still not sure about
Her name) can mutter between kisses, her voice is sweet on the ears, especially when she moans with how her partner latches her luscious lips (which you can vouch for by experience) latch on a particular spot on her neck, “so good…”
“Yes unnie, it is so good” it's the way Sheon elongates the last two words which raises the sexual tension inside the room, and her hands are not left idle, rubbing her right thigh back and forth.
“And look, he is so hard for us right now” she adds before slightly tilting her roommate's face toward your naked erection, everything happened so fast you don't even remember when you took off your pants. “What do you say, oppa, ready for round two?”
“Fuck, as long you tell me your cute roommate's name,” you finally respond, already inching closer to them with impatience and lust. However, it seems like Sheon has other plans.
“That’s not how it works” Sheon lets out a disappointed sigh, “You can't just get a girl’s name like that, first you need to let her suck your cock.” To any other person, Sheon’s response would be fucked up, but to you and the two girls? For some reason, it just makes sense. “But before all of that, let me get unnie to show her tits to us”.
Words quickly turn into actions as Sheon unclasped her roommate's bra, letting it fall onto the sheets, giving her mounds the full view they desperately needed. It's hard to pinpoint exactly her size, especially with how Sheon is not wasting a second by slowly pushing her friend’s face lower to face the tip of your hardness.
The last stretch though, she does by herself and honestly? Those two girls might as well be sisters since like Sheon, as soon as her lips wrap around the tip of your cock a switch flips in her head, immediately starting with slow and steady bobbing movement toward the base of your cock.
She even has the same deadly stare Sheon has when she looks up, seeing your eyes closed while biting your lips every time she gets your cock deeper inside her, letting out a soft mumble resembling a chuckle before increasing the pace and the passion she uses to drain you.
And it drives you fucking insane.
“Oh my god unnie, you suck his cock so fucking amazing” Sheon is shocked at the oral assault her roommate expertly does. “Let me just get naked and then I will start sucking his balls, okay, unnie?” Even with the immense pleasure you receive you can still see how Sheon quickly takes off her bra to reveal her rather small mounds before diving downward, facing your cock with a hungry gaze.
She shifts around to find a comfortable position near her roommate and then, without leaving you a place to get used to it, she immediately reaches her tongue forward, giving it a teasing lick that sends shivers to your brain never felt before.
The only thing you can do is grip the mattress of the bed, trying to find some semblance of control over your body while two professional arsonists set your body aflame with pleasure that can only be described as messy and the sounds they make doesn't help your situation.
“Mm shewon-” the black-haired girl muffles with your cock still inside her mouth, “he is swo hawrd-nghh…” she manages to say to her friend, who seems to get excited with each moment seeing her friend being fucked.
“I know, right? I bet he really likes it when girls like us suck his big, thick cock,” Sheon responds while her hands go to her roommate's hair, moving it from her face to give more space, then she turns to you. “What about you, oppa, getting close for my unnie?”.
You can only nod in response, as any other will take too much energy from you. “That's great oppa,” Sheon adds, taking a look sideways and see how into the feeling the other girl, you could bet she’s not even hearing a word of your conversation as her entire soundscape consistent of licking, slurping and moaning, all which gets you closer to what they have been waiting.
But then, Sheon rises from her position, moving herself from near her roommate to now sitting behind you. You can feel how one of her hands snakes up from behind, gliding across your naked chest before leaning her mouth to your right ears, whispering the magic you didn't know even existed.
“Fill her”
And all hell breaks loose. This simple request is enough to send you into overdrive, as you quickly put each of your hands on the black-haired girl’s head for control before releasing your first shot of your load into her mouth.
And it just doesn't stop, your mind is all hazy only focusing on that request, each buck of your hips forward gets you reaching the back of her mouth with your cock and then unloading another round of cum down her throat, getting the both of you to release a moan.
Sheon? She’s ecstatic, jumping up and down behind you frantically. Each pump of yours gets her giggling and smiling wider. “Yes, yes, yes!!, fill her oppa, fill my Tsuki unnie, she's such a slut for your big cock, let her have all of it” As if she knew all of your sweet spots, she reached her lips to your ear, giving it a loving kiss which gets you hornier.
Below you, Tsuki lets out tears from the pleasure overtaking her entire body, each drop of cum getting inside her gets her moaning while her hands gripping your thighs to not faint, meanwhile managing to mutter a slutty, needy “more” every time she takes her lips out to catch her breath, before taking you in further.
Your last drops of your white load eventually gets swallowed by Tsuki’s, pulling her lips out of your cock and letting you fall onto the bed, pleasure blurs every bit of your vision, finally having time to catch your breath for the first time of the night and your heartbeat to slow down.
“Fuck…you two…are insane” is the only thing you manage to say between heavy breaths.
“And the best part, oppa? We're not over yet,” Sheon says, her voice still seductive, you manage to raise your head and see the two girls as you suddenly notice something: their panties are off.
In front of you are now two girls, fully naked, presenting themselves to you in their full glory, Sheon with a slutty smile and a bite on her lower lip while Tsuki demeanor is more reserved however her eyes share the same curiosity and excitement as her roommate. Immediately, this gets you up and running once again.
“That's right Oppa, you still didn't have the chance to cum on Tsuki unnie's thighs…or inside my ass, and especially…” She then goes behind Tsuki, quickly inserting two digits into her pussy while her other hand goes to grope one of her tits, getting Tsuki to gasp in surprise from the surprising touch over her body.
“You didn't get to cum inside our tight little pussies, Oppa,” she adds, now you're fully immersed in the show in front of you.
“Who knows, maybe a round or two later we could hear your name, right?”
It’s that question that guarantees both to them and to you that tonight's gonna be unlike any other night you ever had in your life.

You and Lando had just finished settling into your hotel, when your phone buzzed with an incoming facetime call from Nick. Surprised but not entirely shocked by his timing, you answered the call and held your phone up as you sat on the edge of the bed. Nick’s face appeared on the screen, expression tense and unusually serious.
“Hey, is Rachel with you right now?” he asked without preamble, tone laced with urgency.
You frowned, confused by the question. “No, she’s not,” you replied, glancing at Lando, who was sitting on the edge of the bef watching your conversation. “Lando and I already left Singapore earlier, we’re in Malaysia right now. Why? Is everything okay?”
Nick ran a hand through his hair, exhaling heavily before diving into the whole explanation. He told you and Lando about how your Auntie Eleanor had hired a private investigator to dig into Rachel’s background. Your stomach sank as he laid it all out—the dossier that your Auntie Eleanor had compiled, which included several Chinese news articles and missing person reports with Rachel’s mother’s photo. All these revelations had been shared with your Ah Ma at the wedding reception, and things had escalated from there.
You can slightly hear Nick’s voice trembling as he recounted how your Ah Ma had become mad and forbid Rachel from continuing her relationship with him, declaring that Rachel’s family background poses a threat to your family’s reputation. The words made your chest tighten, and you felt a mix of anger and sadness bubbling inside of you. Then it all started to make sense now—Rachel’s disoriented state, the way she fled from the reception without looking back.
“Wait,” you interjected, still processing everything. “Ah ma was at Colin and Minty’s wedding? I didn’t even see her, she rarely goes to events like that unless her presence is absolutely necessary.”
Nick nodded, confirming your thoughts. “She was there. It wasn’t planned for her to come, but I think Mom had managed to convince her.”
You sighed. “Well, that explained a lot. No wonder Rachel was running off like that, she must’ve been completely blindsided.”
He paused before continuing. “I’ve been trying to get a hold of her, but she’s not answering my calls or texts. I just—” he trailed off, his frustration evident.
Thinking quickly, you remembered something Rachel had mentioned in passing. “Maybe she’s staying at her best friend’s house? She told me once that she has a close friend in Singapore.”
Nick’s eyes lit up slightly. “That's a possibility. I’ll try to find out where her friend lives.”
“Do you need me to come back?” you asked, words spilling out before you could second-guess them. “Lan and I can fly back to Singapore tonight if you think it’ll help.” you glanced at Lando, who nodded in silent agreement.
He shook his head quickly. “No, no, don’t worry about it. I think I can handle it for now. But if Rachel answers your texts or calls, can you let me know right away?”
“Of course,” you said firmly. “I’ll text her again and keep you updated.”
“Thanks,” Nick said with a small, grateful smile.
“But hey, listen,” you said carefully, “if you find Rachel—in which I know that you will, you have to give her some time. Don’t push her, and don’t force anything.”
Nick was quiet on the other end, so you took it as a queue to continue. “She’s been blindsided, completely blindsided by all of it. Think about it, the information that Auntie Eleanor dumped on her, how it was thrown at her, none of it was easy for her to process. She didn’t even see it coming, and honestly, no one would’ve been ready for something like that.”
“I know,” Nick murmured. “But I just want to fix it. I want her to know that none of this changes how I feel about her.”
“I know you do,” you said gently. “But right now, Rachel needs space to process everything. Imagine if you’re in her shoes—finding out things about your family’s past in such a public and humiliating way. That kind of betrayal isn’t easy to shake off, especially when it comes out of nowhere.”
You paused, choosing your words carefully. “You have to be patient with her, Nick. Let her come to you when she’s ready. If you try to force her to talk or rush through it, it might just push her further away.”
There was another silence, then a resigned sigh from Nick. “You’re right,” he admitted. “I hate it, but you’re right. I just feel so useless sitting here, doing nothing.”
“Nicky, you’re not doing nothing,” you assured him. “The best thing you can do right now is respect her boundaries and be ready when she’s ready. Let her know you’re there, but don’t overwhelm her, and Nick…” you trailed off.
You briefly hesitated before adding, “Rachel was thrown into a pit of wolves. Our family, for all its grandeur and well, admit it or not, can be really cruel. She wasn’t prepared for it, but that’s not on her—it’s completely on us, and if you love her, you’ll help her navigate through it when she finally comes around.”
Nick’s voice softened. “I do love her, more than anything.”
“This might sound very cliché, but trust the process,” you said. “She’ll come back to you when she’s ready, and when she does, you’ll be there for her.”
“Thanks again,” he said quietly. “I really needed to hear that.”
“Anytime,” you replied. “Just keep me updated, okay? Don’t lose hope.”
“I won’t,” Nick promised.
“Alright, take care.” you said before ending the call.
As the screen went dark, you tossed your phone onto the bed with a sigh, staring at the ceiling in frustration. Your call to Rachel had gone straight to voicemail, and though you had sent her a message, you couldn’t shake the knot of worry in your chest. Flopping down beside your phone, you exhaled deeply. The fact that your Auntie Eleanor had gone so far as to hiring a private investigator made your blood boil. It was not just meddling—it felt invasive and cruel.
“Why?” you muttered to yourself, running a hand through your hair. “Why did she have to go that far?”
Lando glanced over you from where he was sitting, watching you silently for a moment before he laid down beside you on the bed.
“Hey,” he said softly, placing a comforting hand on your shoulder. “What’s on your mind?”
“It’s just…Auntie Eleanor. Why would she do something like that? Nick and Rachel were happy, and Ah Ma already liked Rachel, so why did she have to ruin it all? What does it even accomplish?” your voice wavered slightly as you spoke, your emotions bubbling to the surface.
Lando listened patiently, letting you vent. When you paused, he gave your shoulder a reassuring squeeze. “I get it,” he said gently. “It’s frustrating, and it’s not fair to Rachel. But you know Nick, he’s not going to give up on her just because of this. They’ll figure it out eventually.”
You looked at him, brows furrowed. “But what if they don’t? What if this just ruins everything?”
“It won’t,” he said firmly. “They’ve come this far, haven’t they? Something like this might take time to work through, but if they’re meant to be, they’ll find their way back to each other. You’ve got to believe in that.”
His words were calming, and you found yourself nodding slowly. “You’re right,” you said, though the knot in your chest didn’t fully loosen. “I just want them to have the happy ending they deserve.”
“And they will,” Lando assured you with a small smile. “But right now, you’ve got to focus on what you can control. We’re in Malaysia, come on, let’s enjoy our time. Relax, and take a breather from all the chaos back in Singapore.”
You gave Lando a weak smile, appreciating his efforts to make everything better. “Yeah, you’re right. We should make the most of it while we’re here.” pushing yourself off the bed, you glanced towards your suitcase. “We’ve got dinner plans later, don’t we?”
Lando grinned, standing up and holding out his hand to help you. “We do. Let’s go have a great night.”
You took his hand, letting him pull you to your feet, and smiled at him. “Alright.”
The first day in Malaysia began early, with the rising sun casting a soft golden glow as you and Lando set off for George Town in Penang. The drive was long, roughly about four hours from Kuala Lumpur, where you’re staying, but the journey was as much a part of the adventure as the destination. Lando was behind the wheel, where one of his hands was steady on the wheel, and his other free hand was laced on your fingers. His eyes occasionally darted towards you while you admired the scenery as you passed by.
“So,” he started, glancing at you with a teasing smile, “are you going to be my personal tour guide for the day?”
You grinned, looking at him. “Of course.”
When you arrived, George Town immediately swept you off of your feet. The streets were alive with so much color and culture, with the British colonial buildings standing gracefully alongside vibrant Chinese shophouses and intricate mosques. The air smelled of spices and street food, and the chatter of locals filled the space with a sense of warmth and energy.
“Look at that one,” he said, pulling you gently toward a painting of a little boy riding a bicycle. “We have to take a photo here.”
Lando pulled out his camera and posed next to the mural, with a wide grin on his face. “Your turn, come on,” he said after snapping his photo, motioning for you to take his place. “Hold on,” he gestured for you to pose in front of the mural. You rolled your eyes playfully but obliged to his request, striking a simple pose.
“Perfect,” he said as he snapped the photo before lowering the camera. “Though the real thing’s better than the photo,” he added cheekily, leaning in to plant a quick kiss on your cheek.
“Smooth,” you teased, shaking your head but smiling nonetheless.
You wandered through the streets hand in hand, occasionally stopping every so often to admire the architecture of the small shops selling everything ranging from antiques to handmade crafts. At one point, Lando pulled you into a quiet alley where a local artist was painting a new mural. He tilted his head, examining the work.
“Think I could pull something like this off?” he joked, referring to the mural’s intricate design.
“Absolutely not,” you replied, laughing. “But I’d pay good money to watch you try.”
The day would not have been complete without food. You introduced Lando to char kway teow, a flavorful stir-fried noodle dish. He took his first bite, his expression shifting from curiosity to delight.
“Okay, this is incredible,” he said, nodding enthusiastically as he went for another bite.
“You have a good taste,” you replied, stealing a noodle from his plate.
“You mean you have a good taste,” he corrected.
The day continued like that—strolling, laughing, stealing kisses, and taking photos. Every corner of George Town seemed to hold a story, and every moment felt like it was just for the two of you.
As the sun began to set, the sky turned a warm orange, and Lando snapped one final photo. “I don’t think I’ll ever forget today,” he said softly, looking at you instead of the view.
You smiled, squeezing his hand. “Me neither.”
The second day began with the sun streaming through your window, casting a warm glow over the start of what you knew would be an unforgettable day. After breakfast, you and Lando set off for Paradise 101 in Langkawi, a private island that promised a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation, and just an hour away.
As soon as you stepped onto the island, the soft sound of the waves lapping against the shore and the salty breeze filled your senses. Lando reached out for your hand, giving it a light squeeze he looked out at the clear blue sky.
“Ready for some adventure?” he asked with a contagious smile.
“Always,” you replied, already feeling the excitement bubbling up.
The first activity on the list was parasailing, something you had always wanted to try. Strapped into the harness side by side, the instructor began counting down, and then, the boat picked up speed, lifting you and Lando off the ground, soaring above the waters. The world below looks so tiny, and the ocean stretches endlessly beneath your feet.
“This is insane!” Lando shouted over the wind.
You turned your head to look at him, his expression lit up with excitement. “Right? Look at that amazing view!” you replied, pointing towards the horizon where the ocean met the sky.
“Look something out of the painting,” then glancing at you, there was a mischievous glint in Lando’s eyes. “Though the view isn’t half as good as the one next to me.”
You laughed, swatting at him lightly. “You’re such a cheeky little shit.”
When your feet touched the sand again, Lando was already pulling you toward the ziplining station. The zipline took you across the island’s canopy, and each time you landed, Lando was there waiting, stealing quick kisses before moving to the next line.
“Race you to the bottom,” Lando challenged, a mischievous smile lighting up his face.
“Oh, you’re on,” you replied, determined.
As the two of you zipped down, the wind whipping past, the sound of your laughter had filled the air. Lando had beaten you to the bottom, of course, but he immediately pulled you into a hug when you joined him, pressing a kiss to your cheek.
The afternoon was reserved for a private yacht cruise, just the two of you. As the boat glided through the calm waters of Langkawi’s northern coast, you couldn’t help but marvel at the picturesque coastline, with the emerald-green water shimmering under the sun.
“Perfect, isn’t it?” Lando asked, leaning back beside you, his sunglasses perched on his nose.
“Perfect,” you agreed, reaching out to intertwine your fingers with his.
“You know,” he began, “we should bring the others here sometimes. They’d love this.”
“I was just thinking the same thing,” you replied, looking at him. “Though I kind of like it being just us right now.”
“Me too,” he said, voice soft, brushing a kiss on your forehead.
You decided to give kayaking a try, but knowing Lando, it probably would be a chaotic one. “You’re paddling the wrong way, babe!” you exclaimed as Lando’s oar splashed water everywhere. “Are you sure you know how to paddle?”
“Of course I do!” he argued.
Lando was just kept on paddling in circles, the kayak even refused to cooperate—or so he claimed.
“Babe! You’re just steering us into circles. You’re doing it wrong!” you called out, grinning mischievously.
“I’m not—hold on, are you gaslighting me right now?” he accused, realizing your game.
“I would never!” you said, feigning innocence.
Lando almost toppled over the kayak trying to adjust, and you couldn’t contain your laughter. But eventually, you found your rhythm, paddling side by side through the tranquil waters.
“Okay, maybe this teamwork thing isn’t so bad after all,” he admitted, voice softer now.
“You think?” you teased, glancing at him with a smile.
The highlight of the day came with the private UNESCO Geopark mangrove cruise. You and Lando had been transferred to a small explorer boat, where you were taken through a landscape that felt almost otherworldly. Sheer limestone cliffs rose majestically from the water, their forms resembling ancient temples.
“This is incredible,” Lando murmured, voice tinged with awe as he leaned over the side of the boat.
You nodded, eyes fixed on the towering cliffs. “It feels like we’ve stepped into another world.”
The guide led you through the Tanjung Rhu River, Kisap River, and Kilim River, each stretch offering breathtaking views. At one point, you visited a fish farm and even ventured into the crocodile and bat cave, marveling at the natural formations.
When the cruise ended, the day slowly gave way to evening, and you returned to the resort. Lando had made a reservation for an outdoor dinner at the resort’s restaurant, with the table set against the backdrop of the sparkling Andaman Sea.
You were sitting right across from Lando, the soft glow of the setting sun painted the sky in hues of orange and pink. “Today was really perfect,” you said, voice warm.
Lando reached across the table, taking your hand in his. “Well, that’s because I spent it with you.”
“To more days like this,” you said, raising your glass with your free hand.
“To more days with you,” Lando replied, raising his glass as well.
The waves whispered against the shore as you clink your glasses together, ending the amazing fun filled day in the most serene and beautiful way imaginable.
On the third day, which is your last day in Malaysia, felt like the perfect opportunity to slow down and enjoy a more relaxed pace with Lando. After having your breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant, you decided to explore Kuala Lumpur together and do some shopping, mostly picking out Christmas gifts for family and friends. Your first stop was Cartier, where the staff immediately recognized you and Lando as you entered the boutique.
“Welcome back,” one of them greeted warmly. “Please, follow us to the VIP room.”
The room was elegant and private, with plush seating and pristine glass displays showcasing Cartier’s finest collections. You scanned the displays carefully, selecting gifts that felt personal and meaningful. From time to time, you would turn to Lando for his opinion, holding a piece to show it to him.
“What do you think of this one, love?” you asked, turning a bracelet in your hands.
Lando leaned in to get a closer look, studying it for a brief moment. “It’s nice, but maybe this design suits them better,” he suggested, pointing to another piece that has more classic finish to it.
His input was reassuring, and you found yourself smiling more with every choice you made. So piece by piece, you finalized your selections and decided to have each of it engraved with the names. While the staff began the engraving process, you took the opportunity to explore the display cases further.
Your eyes fell on the iconic Love rings, their sleek designs catching the light. The delicate design, with its understated elegance and signature screw motif had drawn you in immediately. You paused, gazing at them a little longer than you had intended. They were very stunning, and the thought of having matching ones with Lando crept into your mind.
For a moment, you let your mind wander. The thought of having matching Love rings with Lando made your heart flutter. It would be such a sweet symbol of your relationship, a quiet nod to the love you shared. But as quickly as the thought came, doubt crept in. Would he even want to wear something like that? You had only been together for a year, and while your relationship felt deep and serious, you weren’t even sure if he’d see it the same way.
“Miss?” the associate’s voice gently pulled you back to the present. “The items have been engraved and wrapped. Would you like us to send them directly to your hotel?”
You smiled, nodding. “Yes, please. That would be perfect. We still have some plans for the day.”
The associate assured you that everything would be taken care of. You thanked them again and turned to Lando, who was casually leaning against the counter, watching you with an easy smile. What you didn’t realize was that he had caught the way your gaze lingered on the Love rings earlier. But he decided not to say anything, only offering you his hand as the two of you prepared to leave.
“Ready to go?” he asked, voice gentle.
“Yes, let’s go,” you replied, sliding your hand into his.
As you both left the store hand in hand, the shopping bags destined for your hotel, Lando’s mind was already working, his thoughts drifting back to the love rings and making a mental note.
Finally, Dior was your final stop, and as you stepped into the elegantly designed VIP room, the ambiance felt as refined and luxurious as always. The staff greeted you warmly, offering refreshments and giving you a moment to settle in before showing you all of the latest collections.
You browsed through the items thoughtfully, then occasionally turning to Lando for his input, yet again, on potential gifts and personal picks. He followed you closely, hands tucked casually in his pockets, his easy demeanor adding a comfortable balance.
As you admired a pair of beautiful heels, Lando leaned in slightly, tone light but teasing. “You know your luggage is already packed to the brim, right?”
You paused mid-reach, blinking at him as his words sank in. “Wait…really?”
He nodded, trying to suppress a grin. “Yeah, I’m pretty sure you’d have to sit on it just to zip it up.”
With the sudden realization, you glanced back at the shelves, and you turned to the sales associate with a smile. “Do you have any luggage available in stock?”
The associate’s face lit up. “We do, actually! Let me bring it out for you.”
As the associate disappeared into the back, Lando let out a soft chuckle, shaking his head slightly. “Only you would come shopping for gifts and leave with luggage to carry it all.”
You rolled your eyes playfully, nudging his arm. “Well, if you’re going to go shopping, might as well do it properly.”
The associate soon returned, rolling out a sleek Dior luggage piece in a design you hadn’t seen before that caught your attention immediately. Its understated design and impeccable craftsmanship stood out, and you took a moment to examine it closely.
“This is perfect,” you said decisively, a satisfied smile spreading across your face. “I’ll take it. I don’t have one in this design yet, so it’ll be a great addition.”
Lando chuckled softly beside you as you made your way to the counter. When the associate had totaled the purchase, he casually pulled out his black card and handed it over, placing it on the counter.
“Here, I’ve got this,” he said smoothly, the corner of his mouth lifting in a small grin.
“No,” you reached into your bag without hesitation, pulling out your own black card and handing it to the associate directly. “I’m paying for this, please. It’s my shopping.”
The associate glanced between the two of you, clearly confused and trying to decide whose card to take. You were sure that the associate would take your card, so you focused briefly on a nearby display of handbags, thinking which designs might fit into your collection. While you were distracted, Lando seized the opportunity.
“Swipe it on mine,” he said quietly, giving the associate a quick, reassuring nod.
By the time you turned your attention back, the transaction was already complete, and the staff were carefully packing the luggage and other items into Dior’s signature paper bags.
“What just happened?” you asked, narrowing your eyes slightly as Lando smiles cheekily at you.
“Nothing, babe,” he replied, tone far too innocent to be convincing. “Just making sure you’re not overworking your card today.”
You sighed, half-exasperated but mostly amused. “You’re impossible.”
“Just making sure your new luggage is properly christened,” he teased.
Shaking your head with a small smile, you turned back to the associate and asked, “would it be possible to have everything be delivered to our hotel? We’ve got a dinner reservation coming up, and it would be easier if we didn’t have to carry all this.”
“Of course, Miss,” they replied, nodding. “We’ll ensure everything is delivered promptly.”
“Thank you,” you said warmly before turning back to Lando. “Ready to go?”
Lando placed a hand on the small of your back, guiding you towards the exit. “Let’s go.”
By the time you stepped out of Dior, the soft glow of dusk had already begun to settle over the city, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink. The streets were alive with the hum of evening traffic, but your thoughts were focused on the dinner reservation at Akar Dining.
The drive to the restaurant was peaceful, with Lando’s hand resting on your thigh as the car navigated the streets. You arrived just in time, the warm ambiance of the restaurant immediately wrapping around you as you stepped inside, the host greeted you and guided you to your table. Lando, ever the gentleman, pulled out your chair, his hand lingering briefly on the back of it as you sat down.
“Thank you,” you murmured with a small smile, adjusting the hem of your dress as you settled in.
Lando took his seat across from you just as a waiter approached your table with the menus. The dimly lit atmosphere, paired with the sophisticated decor had made the evening feel intimate and special. As you scanned the menu, your eyes immediately caught a few dishes you knew you would enjoy, while Lando appeared slightly less certain.
“So, what are you thinking of getting?” you asked, glancing up from your menu to find him frowning slightly.
“Honestly?” he set the menu down for a moment, leaning back in his chair. “Most of these seafood dishes aren’t really my thing.”
You couldn’t help but laugh softly, shaking your head. “It’s fine, just pick something else. You don’t have to love everything on the menu.”
Eventually, he decided on the braised aged duck, and you ordered a seafood dish that intrigued you. As you waited for the food, you took a sip of your water, your gaze lingering on Lando. The memory of what happened at Dior earlier was still fresh in your mind, and you decided to address it.
“By the way,” you began, setting your glass down. “Thank you for paying earlier at Dior, but you really didn’t have to, Lan.”
Lando shrugged casually, a small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. “Of course I did. You shouldn’t have to pay for something when I’m right here.”
You sighed lightly, tilting your head at him. “Lan, I can pay for my own things. I don’t want to rely on you all the time, especially when it’s my shopping.”
“I know you can,” he replied, tone soft but firm. “But that doesn’t mean I want you to. It’s not about whether you can afford it—it’s about me wanting to take care of you.”
You opened your mouth to protest, but he cut you off with a playful grin. “And before you argue, I’m not budging on this.”
“Well, if you’re so insistent on paying for everything,” you said, leaning forward slightly, “then at least let me pay for dinner tonight.”
“Not happening, love,” he said simply, leaning back in his chair with an air of finality.
“Lando,” you started, but the waiter returned just then with your food, momentarily halting the conversation.
As you both began to eat, you couldn’t help but glance at him occasionally, trying to come up with a way to outmaneuver him when the bill comes. Lando seemed thoroughly engrossed in his braised aged duck, nodding approvingly after the first few bites.
“This is actually really good,” he remarked, gesturing to his plate with his fork.
“It was worth the try,” you said with a satisfied smile, enjoying your own meal.
When the plates were cleared, the waiter had returned with the bill, and you reached for it instinctively, smiling as you’re about to get a hand on it, but to your dismay, Lando was faster. He snatched it from the waiter’s hand with a smoothness that left you momentarily stunned, his card already out and ready. Without a word, he placed it on the bill and handed it back to the waiter before you could even blink.
“Lando Norris!” you hissed, voice a mix of exasperation and disbelief. “I told you I was paying for dinner.”
“And I told you that you’re not,” he replied, tone calm and unbothered.
You stared at him, incredulous. “You can’t keep doing this. I have my own money, you know. I don’t need you to pay for everything, my love.”
“I know you don’t,” he said, leaning forward slightly. “But I wanted to. A gentleman never let his woman pay. End of story.”
“But—”
“No buts,” he interrupted gently, gaze soft but resolute. “I know that you’re independent, and I love that about you. But letting me take care of you every now and then doesn’t make you any less independent.”
You sighed, leaning back in your chair. “At some point, you have to let me pay too. I don’t want to feel like I’m relying on you for everything.”
“I get that. But tonight isn’t the point,” he said, as his thumb gently caressed your knuckles and brought it to his lips, kissing it softly. “Letting me take care of you once in a while doesn’t mean you’re relying on me. It just means that I love you.”
Your heart softened at his words, the sincerity in his voice melting away your objections. “Fine,” you murmured, though a playful edge crept into your tone. “But one day, you’re letting me pay for something. Mark my words.”
Lando chuckled, leaning back in his chair with a wide grin. “We’ll see about that.”
After an amazing dinner, you were finally back in your hotel. The moment you stepped inside the room, the exhaustion from the day’s adventures hit you like a wave. You slipped off your sandals with a sigh of relief, placed your bag on the vanity, and immediately collapsed onto the plush bed, letting the softness swallow you whole. Lando was not far behind, shutting the door with a soft click before walking over to where you lay sprawled out. He chuckled as he kicked off his sneakers, tossing them aside without any care.
“You look absolutely done,” he teased, voice laced with affection.
Without another word, he climbed onto the bed beside you, his arms snaking around your waist as he pulled you close. You didn’t protest, in fact, you just melted into his embrace—his warmth and familiar scent of his cologne instantly soothing your tired muscles.
“Don’t get too comfortable,” you murmured lazily, though you made no effort to move. “We still need to pack for tomorrow. I need to arrange the things we bought today inside the new luggage.”
Lando nuzzled his face into your neck, his breath warm against your skin. “Mhmm…packing can wait.” he said as he kissed your collarbone. “I just want to stay like this for a bit. It’s been such a good trip.”
You smiled faintly, tilting your head slightly to rest against his. “It really has. I think this was exactly what we needed, huh? Just us, no distractions.”
“Uh huh. No meetings, no interruptions…” Lando added with a sigh, tightening his hold on you. “I wish we could stay longer. Feels like I’ve barely scratched the surface here.”
You laughed softly. “You’re the one who extended our stay by an extra day. If we keep this up, we might not even make it to the UK in time for Christmas.”
He groaned dramatically, pulling you even closer. “Fine, you win. We’ll leave tomorrow, but I’m telling you, we’re coming back here next year.”
“Alright,” you replied, voice muffle as you buried your face in his chest.
For a few moments, neither of you spoke, content to lie tangled in each other’s arms as the city lights outside cast a faint glow into the hotel room.
“Okay, okay,” you finally said, breaking the peaceful silence. “We really need to pack, babe. I’m not about to start throwing things into a suitcase at five in the morning.”
He groaned again but rolled over, propping himself up on one elbow as he looked at you with a mischievous glint in his eye. “How about I do the packing, and you stay here looking all pretty?”
“Absolutely not,” you replied, swatting his arm lightly. “If you pack, I’ll end up with half my things missing and thrown with wrinkles.”
Lando laughed, sitting up and pulling you up with him. “Alright, fine. Let’s get it over with, but you owe me cuddles afterwards.”
You rolled your eyes playfully as you slid off of the bed. “Deal. Now, let’s get moving before you start whining again.”
He grinned, grabbing his suitcase and tossing it onto the bed with enthusiasm. “You know me so very well.”
As you were neatly folding a dress and placing it neatly in your suitcase, your phone rang, cutting through the quiet hum of activity in the hotel room. You glanced at the screen and saw Nick’s caller ID flashing. Your eyes immediately widened, and your stomach sank slightly—you had completely pushed aside the chaos from earlier in Singapore.
“Nicky,” you murmured, picking up the phone and quickly answering. Lando glanced up from his own packing, curious.
The moment the call connected, Nick’s face filled your screen, grinning from ear to ear. Before you could say anything, he shouted out, “WE’RE GETTING MARRIED!”
Your jaw dropped, and your heart leapt. “WHAT?!” you screamed, startling Lando, who immediately moved closer to check. “Oh my god! Nicky, are you serious?!”
Nick nodded excitedly, his smile growing wider. “Yes! I proposed to Rachel earlier, and she said yes! We’re getting married!”
A loud scream of happiness escaped you, and grabbed both Lando’s hands and jumped up and down, causing Lando to follow your lead, with you chanting ‘Nick and Rachel are getting married’ a couple of times. Both of you jumping like you’re in a cult, chanting to summon something.
“Nicky, this is amazing news! I’m so happy for you and Rachel! Oh my god, I’m going to cry!” you said, nearly dropping your phone in the process.
Lando laughed and leaned into the frame, resting a hand on your waist. “Congratulations, mate! That’s incredible news!”
“Thanks, man!” Nick said, grinning even wider. He turned back to you, clearly eager to share more details. “Mom finally came around, and she gave me the emerald ring to propose with. I actually chased Rachel to the airport, it turns out she was about to leave, already inside the plane and I just dropped on one knee and proposed to her. You should’ve seen Rachel’s face when I pulled out the ring, she was so shocked.”
You clutched your chest dramatically. “Nick, that’s so beautiful. I’m so, so happy for you both.”
Nick chuckled, his excitement very evident. “But wait, there’s more. I’m throwing a surprise engagement party for Rachel tomorrow night, and I need you both there. Please say you can come.”
You glanced over at Lando, your eyes silently asking if he was okay with changing plans. Lando, ever the supportive boyfriend that he is, nodded without any hesitation.
“We’re both in,” you said to Nick. “We’ll fly back to Singapore tomorrow.”
Nick let out a relieved sigh. “Thank you! I can’t wait to see you both, and don’t worry, it won’t be a massive party, just a small gathering of close friends and family.”
“We will not miss it,” you assured him. “But just so you know, we’ll have to leave right after the party. We’re expected in the UK before Christmas.”
“Fair enough,” Nick said, still beaming. “I’ll see you guys tomorrow then, and thank you, both of you, for being there for us.”
“Of course,” you replied, voice soft with emotion. “I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
After ending the call, you turned to Lando, who was smiling at your obvious joy. “Looks like we’re making another detour,” you said with a laugh.
“Well, wouldn’t have it any other way,” Lando replied, pulling you into a quick hug before returning to his packing.
The flight from Malaysia to Singapore passed quickly, only an hour long. You and Lando had decided to leave in the afternoon to allow yourselves some extra time to relax before the engagement party. By the time the private jet touched down at a private tarmac in Changi Airport, the sky had shifted to a warm, dusky hue.
You were already dressed for the event, adjusting the hem of your dress as you prepared to disembark. Your outfit for tonight complimented Lando’s outfit perfectly, a choice you both had coordinated without much effort. Deciding not to take your belongings off of the jet since you would be leaving Singapore immediately after the party. Taking one final glance at the jet’s sleek interior, you then stepped out.
Lando walked beside you, his hand firmly holding yours as he guided you down the steps of the jet. The heels you wore, though elegant, weren’t exactly forgiving, and his grip gave you the balance you needed. Once you reached the car waiting on the tarmac, he moved ahead, opening the door for you.
“Careful, love,” he murmured, holding out a hand to help you inside.
You gave Lando a small smile as you slid into the seat, careful not to wrinkle your dress. He followed right after, shutting the car door behind him. The soft hum of the car engine filled up the space as the vehicle pulled away, heading towards Marina Bay Sands. You then leaned into Lando slightly.
“You know,” Lando began with a playful smirk, “I think we’ve spent more time in Singapore lately than in Monaco.”
You laughed softly. “Tell me about it. It looks like we’ll be back here again sooner rather than later for Nick and Rachel’s wedding.”
He tilted his head in mock resignation. “I guess I’d better get used to the humidity then.”
“Oh come on,” you gave him a teasing nudge. “You’ve survived it so far. Besides, you look so good here, very tropical chic.”
Lando chuckled, resting his hand on yours. “Thanks, love. But seriously, it feels like everyone’s getting married or engaged all of a sudden. What’s with the December air.”
You sighed dramatically. “Tell me about it. First Colin and Minty, now Nick and Rachel, also don’t forget about my friend from Parsons! She’s getting married in Moscow next year and has already sent in the invitation.”
“Moscow, huh?” he mused. “Another flight for us?”
You glanced at him with a small smile. “If you want to come with me, that is. I don’t want to pressure you into attending all these weddings, I know that it can be really tiring.”
Lando tilted his head, pretending to think it over. “Moscow, a wedding, and a chance to see you again in another dress? Sounds like a total dream, so it’s a yes for me.”
You rolled your eyes playfully, nudging his arm. “You’re impossible.”
“And you love every bit of it,” he quipped, grinning.
As the car drove on, your thoughts began to drift. Weddings, engagements, proposals—it seemed like everyone around you was taking those big steps. You didn’t want to admit it, but that idea of marriage had been creeping into your mind more and more lately. It was not something you wanted to bring up, not yet, but still, it is a topic that had been occupying your mind.
You shook off the feeling, focusing instead on the city lights beginning to twinkle outside the car window. “Yeah, and I think that we’re going to need a bigger calendar,” you joked.
Lando laughed, resting a hand on your knee. “As long as you’re on it, I don’t mind.”
The car rolled to a smooth stop at the grand entrance of Marina Bay Sands, with the city lights reflecting off the sleek glass facade. The chauffeur had exited first, circling around to open your door, and before you could step out, Lando was already at your side, extending a hand to help you out of the car.
“I’ll be here at the agreed time to take you back to the airport, ma’am.” the chauffeur said as he tipped his hat.
“Thank you,” you replied with a polite smile.
Lando intertwined your hands, and you both began walking towards the entrance. The evening air was warm, and the energy surrounding the iconic building was palpable. A few people by the lobby immediately recognized Lando, and their eyes widened when they noticed you by his side.
“Excuse me,” a young woman asked hesitantly, clutching her phone. “Would it be alright if I can get a quick photo with you both?”
Lando exchanged glances with you and nodded warmly. “Of course, just a quick one.”
You stepped aside with him, pausing for a few photos, each person thanking you both profusely afterwards. Once the small crowd dispersed, you and Lando resumed your walk, making your way to the elevators that would take you to the sky deck. The elevator ride was smooth and swift, and when the doors opened, the familiar faces of your family, Nick’s closest friends, and your cousins scattered throughout the beautifully decorated space.
As your eyes scanned the crowd, you spotted your mother first. She stood near one of the seating areas, speaking animatedly with one of your aunts. You guided Lando over, and her expression shifted to surprise the moment she saw you both.
“Darling!” your mother exclaimed, pulling you into a tight embrace.
“Hi, Mom,” you greeted, smiling warmly before stepping aside so Lando could greet her.
Your mother opened her arms invitingly. “Lando, come here.”
Lando hugged her briefly but warmly, a soft laugh escaping him. “Hello, Auntie. It’s good to see you again.”
“Likewise,” your mother replied, taking a step back to look at you both. “I thought you’d already be in the UK by now.” she said, raising an eyebrow at you.
“We were supposed to leave after the day after the wedding,” you explained, “but we decided to make a quick stop in Malaysia for a few days. Then Nicky called last night and asked us to come, so here we are.”
She smiled knowingly. “Always the supportive cousin. But you’re leaving tonight?”
“Yes, the jet is on standby at the airport,” you confirmed. “We’ll head straight there after the party.”
Your mother nodded in satisfaction, and gave Lando a pat on the shoulder. “Well, you enjoy yourselves tonight. It’s a rare sight to see you two so relaxed.”
You and Lando exchanged a small smile before moving on to greet Colin and Araminta, who were just chatting near the champagne table.
“Hey!” Colin greeted, giving you both a hug. “I didn’t think we’d see you two again so soon.”
“Neither did we,” you replied with a laugh. “But here we are.”
You turned to Araminta, who hugged you warmly, then stepped back, smiling brightly. “It’s so good to see you again, and Lando, of course! You’re becoming quite the fixture at family events!”
Lando grinned. “I’ll take that as a compliment.”
Colin smirked. “At this rate, uncle’s going to give him the talk soon, if he hasn’t already. Then we all know whose wedding we’ll be attending soon after Nick and Rachel’s.”
You laughed, shaking your head. “Too late, Dad already gave him the talk, and even Ah Ma had given her blessing.”
Lando grinned, playing along. “Proud to say that I’ve passed all the tests by now.”
Araminta gasped dramatically, nudging Colin. “See? It’s official now. We’ll start saving the date!”
The four of you exchanged pleasantries and some laughs for a few moments before your attention was drawn to a surprising sight. Standing by the bar were none other than Bernard and Kitty, a pair you had not expected to see here at all. You caught Lando’s eye, and he gave you a subtle shrug, clearly just as a surprise.
Shaking it off, you turned your focus back, making your way toward your aunts. Auntie Alix, Auntie Eleanor, and Auntie Jacqueline, who were all chatting in a tight circle. You approached with Lando by your side, greeting each of them in turn with a polite kiss on the cheek and a warm smile.
“Ah, you’re here!” your Auntie Alix smiled. “I thought you were in the UK already.”
“Nick called,” you explained with a smile, “so here we are.”
“Well, we’re glad you made it,” your Auntie Jacqueline chimed in, “and you’re glowing tonight.” she added, her gaze flitting between you and Lando.
“Must be the Malaysian sun,” Lando jokes, earning a soft laugh from the group.
Your Auntie Eleanor gave Lando a sharp but playful look. “You’re certainly making yourself comfortable with this family, aren’t you?”
Lando smiled politely. “I’m just trying to keep up,” satisfied with his answer, your Auntie Eleanor waved you off with a chuckle.
Nick and Rachel hadn’t arrived yet, so you and Lando decided to take the opportunity to mingle with other guests. The evening was lively, with laughter and champagne flowing freely.
Several guests had approached you and Lando for photos, and you obliged, posing with ease. Lando kept a hand on your lower back, guiding you smoothly through the crowd as you moved from one group to another.
From across the room, you noticed your cousin Oliver weaving his way through the crowd, a bright smile on his face as he head towards you. As he approached, you and Lando turned to greet him.
“Oliver!” you said warmly, pulling him into a quick hug.
“Hey you two,” he said, giving you both a smile before continuing. “I want to introduce you to Rachel’s best friend. She’s dying to meet you.”
Curious, you exchanged a glance with Lando before agreeing. “Of course! Lead the way.”
Following Oliver, you navigated through the elegantly dressed guests until you stopped in front of a small group of people.
“Here we are,” Oliver said, motioning toward a striking woman with a vibrant smile. “This is Rachel’s best friend, Goh Peik Lin.”
You extended your hand toward her. “Peik Lin, it’s so nice to meet you!”
Peik Lin shook your hand warmly. “And it’s so nice to meet you as well!”
Your gaze traveled briefly over her outfit, a beautifully tailored dress that exuded elegance and sophistication. “I have to say, your outfit is incredible. You have such impeccable taste.”
Her smile widened, excitement evident. “Oh stop, you’re going to make me blush! But thank you, it means a lot coming from someone as stylish as you.”
Oliver then turned to the older couple standing beside Peik Lin. “And these are Peik Lin’s parents, Goh Wye Mun and Goh Nenna.”
You offered a polite smile as you greeted them. “It’s a pleasure to meet you both, Mr. and Mrs. Goh.”
Nenna’s eyes sparkled as she took your hand. “Just call us Auntie Nenna and Uncle Wye Mun! And my goodness, you’re even more gorgeous in person! I’ve seen photos of you, and they don’t do you justice! You’re very stunning, my dear!”
You laugh softly, feeling a light warmth rise to your cheeks. “You’re too kind, Auntie Nenna. Thank you so much.”
Then you turned to Wye Mun, whose expression shifted slightly as recognition dawned on him. He tilted his head, studying you for a moment.
“You’re one of Harrison Sr. and Elizabeth Young’s children, aren’t you? Their only daughter,” he said, tone a mixture of surprise and admiration.
You nodded, smiling. “That’s right. I’ve heard of your family before as well. If my memory serves me right, you’re the owner of Goh Developments, correct? One of Singapore’s most successful real estate companies?”
Wye Mun chuckled, clearly pleased. “Yes, that’s about right. I’m flattered you know about us.”
“Of course!” you said. “Your company’s work is extraordinary. Some of your developments are architectural masterpieces.”
The brief exchange shifted naturally into a short discussion about real estate, with Wye Mun enthusiastically sharing tidbits about recent projects. Peik Lin listened intently, Oliver and Lando conversing with each other, while Nenna just watched the whole conversation with a smile.
You then gestured towards Lando afterwards, who had been standing quietly beside you. “Allow me to introduce to you my boyfriend, Lando.”
Lando extended his hand towards Wye Mun, who shook it firmly. Wye Mun’s eyes lit up in recognition. “Ah, Lando Norris! I watched you win the Singapore GP last September. Quite an incredible race, I must say. You’ve got some serious talent.”
“Thank you so much,” Lando said with a polite smile. “It was an unforgettable race for sure.”
“And I didn’t know that you were dating the darling of the Singaporean social elite!” Wye Mun added with a playful tone, eyes twinkling.
“Oh Wye Mun, look at them!” Nenna interjected, her gaze moving between you and Lando. “They look so good together, a very beautiful couple. Perfect match!”
Wye Mun nodded in agreement, tone light. “Quite the power couple, I’d say.”
You couldn’t help but smile at their comment, glancing at Lando, who was already looking at you with a soft expression. “Thank you,” you replied simply.
The conversation continued easily, with the group exchanging stories and laughs. The atmosphere was warm, and you felt genuinely pleased to meet Rachel’s best friend and their family.
As the buzz of conversation faded into hushed whispers, Araminta stepped forward with a smile and announced, “Nick and Rachel are on their way up now! Everyone, take your positions.”
You and Lando stood slightly off to the side, his hand on your waist, caressing it softly and tracing shapes. The elegant lighting of the sky deck reflected off the cityscape, casting a soft glow over the gathered guests.
Lando leaned in close, his breath warm against your ear. “You know,” he whispered, tone teasing, “it was so hot watching you talk business with Wye Mun earlier. You looked so serious and confident.”
You glanced at him, barely suppressing a smile, and gave his chest a soft slap. “Stop being cheeky right now, Norris,” you muttered, keeping your voice low to avoid drawing any attention.
But it looks like Lando was not done yet. He grinned at you mischievously, his voice dipping lower. “I mean it, baby. The way you talked about developments and projects? Very impressive, very attractive.”
You rolled your eyes, though your cheeks warmed slightly. “Lando,” you whispered warningly, “behave. This is not the time.”
He bit back a chuckle, amusement evident. “Fine, fine. But you should know, I can’t help it when you’re like that.”
You shushed him quietly, your finger briefly brushing his lips. “Quiet now,” you insisted softly, glancing around to make sure no one was paying attention.
As you returned your focus to the party, your thoughts flicked back to your earlier conversation with Wye Mun. Real estate development has always intrigued you—the intricacies, potential, and stories behind every project. It was not just a polite conversation, it was a chance to learn and build connections.
“Besides,” you murmured to Lando, keeping your tone casual, “it’s always good to broaden your network. Even if I already have so many, there’s no harm in widening the circle.”
Lando nodded, his expression now a mix of curiosity and pride. “Well, you’ve got a point,” he said softly.
You let your eyes wander across the crowd, noting a few familiar faces mingling among the guests. “This place is full of businesspeople—major players in the industry, tonight,” you whispered to him. “I can recognize a few who could even be potential sponsors for McLaren.” Lando raised a brow at you, intrigued.
You turned to him, giving him a playful wink. “Who knows? Maybe I’ll help you land a deal or two.”
Lando smirked, leaning in closer to you again. “Now that,” he said, tone low and teasing, “is a kind of teamwork I can get behind.”
The sky deck fell in a hush as everyone stood in their positions, waiting for Nick and Rachel’s arrival. The atmosphere was buzzing, a mix of excitement and happiness among the crowd. The distant hum of the elevator announced their approach, and then, with a soft chime, doors slid open.
Nick stepped out first, his hands gently covering Rachel’s eyes as he carefully guided her forward into the middle of the crowd. Rachel, her posture both curious and expectant, laughed lightly, clearly amused by the surprise. The whole crowd held its collective breath, watching as Nick finally removed his hands from Rachel’s eyes.
The second her eyes opened, the silence of the crowd was replaced with an eruption of cheers and applause. Screams of happiness echoed across the sky deck, led enthusiastically by Colin and Araminta. Rachel’s expression had transformed into one of pure, radiant happiness as she took sight of everyone gathered for her. Overwhelmed with emotion, she raised her hand, showing off the stunning emerald ring that sparkled under the lights, then pointing to it with a grin.
People surged forward, surrounding Nick and Rachel with hugs and congratulations. You and Lando joined in with the crowd, your laughter blending with everyone else’s as you approached the newly engaged couple.
“Congratulations!” you said, beaming as you hugged Rachel tightly. “I’m so happy for you both.”
Nick grinned, pulling you into a quick hug as well. “Thank you for being here. It wouldn’t have been the same without you.”
Lando shook Nick’s hand before giving Rachel a warm hug. “You two are perfect for each other.”
Nick, ever the joker, glanced between you and Lando, a teasing glint in his eyes. “You know,” he began, tone playful, “I have a strong feeling you two might be the next one.”
Rachel, catching on, nodded enthusiastically. “Oh, absolutely! We’ll have to start planning your engagement party real soon.”
You and Lando exchanged amused looks, chuckling. “Let’s not get ahead of ourselves,” you replied, though your heart skipped a beat at the thought.
As much as you adored Nick and Rachel, you did not need them adding more fuel to the fire—you were already simmering with wedding fever.
After the flood of congratulations, Nick took Rachel’s hand and gently guided her attention towards the infinity pool, where a group of synchronized swimmers began an elegant performance, their movements perfectly timed to the music. Rachel gasped softly, her eyes lighting up with wonder as she watched.
Then, from the corner of our eye, you noticed Rachel spotting your Auntie Eleanor standing a little way off. For a brief moment, the noise and excitement seemed to face as the two women exchanged a look, one of understanding and newfound respect. The warmth in Rachel’s smile and the subtle nod from your Auntie Eleanor spoke volumes. It filled your heart with joy to see that your aunt had finally come around, embracing Rachel in the way she deserved.
Nick then pulled Rachel into a tender kiss, earning a round of applause and cheers again from the crowd. Lando stepped behind you, wrapping his arms securely around your waist, holding you close. His chin rested lightly on your shoulder, and you could feel his warmth radiating through you.
The sound of fireworks exploding above pulled everyone’s attention upward. Bright colors lit up the sky, reflecting off the glass and water, painting the moment in vibrant hues. The cheers grew louder, people pointing and marveling at the display. You stayed like that, wrapped in Lando’s arms, watching the sky.
With fireworks still illuminating the sky and Lando’s arms wrapped securely around you, a quiet realization settled in your heart. It was not something sudden, it was something that had been building over time, piece by piece, moment by moment. The depth of love that you feel for Lando was staggering, overwhelming even, and yet it felt so natural.
You had dated before, countless boys who had seemed charming or interesting at the time, but none of them had ever come close to Lando. They never understood you the way Lando did. With him, there was no guessing, pretending, or effort to mold yourself into someone else’s idea of what love should look like. Lando saw you, truly saw you, in a way that no one else ever had. To be seen was to be loved.
This was what set Lando apart. With him, you never had to explain your silences, quirks, or the way your mind wandered to far-off places. He did not just tolerate those things, in fact, he cherished them. He loved them. With Lando, you felt understood in a way that words could never fully capture.
You thought back to the other relationships before Lando, the boys who had come before. They had their moments, but they always felt…incomplete. There had been a disconnect, a lingering sense that you were only partly there, only partly understood. They never have you the feeling that Lando did—feeling of being wholly, entirely loved. Lando was the man that you had been praying for, and for once, God had led Lando to you.
Sure, the way he loved you was not perfect, but it was honest. It was raw and real, and it made you feel more like yourself than you ever thought possible. Lando had this way of making you feel like you were the only person in the world, like his entire focus was only on you and no one else. That was the truth of it, wasn’t it? You had never felt this way with anyone else, and you knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that no one else could make you feel the way he did. Lando was not just someone you loved—he was the person you wanted to spend your forever with.
The thought settled deeply in your chest, filling every corner of your heart with an indescribable warmth. It was not just that you loved him—it was that he was home.
“I love you,” you looked up at him, smiling.
Lando looked at you, smiling. He then whispered, “I love you too, so fucking much.”

The Owl House’s first episode really is a litmus test for people who claim to support Problem Kids who act out but ultimately need support by their community instead of punishment by the system, because jeezus.
The way so many people were clutching their pearls over Luz bringing fireworks to school, treating her like some domestic terrorist in the making who needed to be carted away, and not just… An eager kid who got in over her head trying to bring fun with something associated with fun, especially in her country!!! Like this was so obviously a well-meaning child who just needed to be sat down and explained the dangers of fireworks, who was clearly willing to listen!
And yeah, Luz DID become a domestic terrorist. But you know what I mean, and really that just proves my point that Luz can be a rebel in a fantastical sense, but when you apply it to a real-world context, suddenly she’s a menace that needs to be stopped. Because it’s easy to root for the metaphor until you have to uncomfortably apply it your own life. Why else would Belos be an actual colonizer from IRL history, and not just a space alien or demon?
It’s the way people saw this cartoonishly-evil system that the show was so unambiguous about, and because they thought they were being clever by being uncritically contrarian (when really they were just affirming their own latent biases), they argued that Oh yeah maybe the system IS good for Luz, maybe this is what she needs! The way people were so ready to take the camp’s promises at face value, that See it’s going to teach her how to do taxes and listen to the news!
People were just so insistent that actually, the Troubled Teen Industry means well and will do well in taking this brown child away from her struggling brown mother, without a choice for either of them. They just ignored the obvious bit about Principal Hal sending Luz to the camp as a punishment, out of spite, after breaking his promise to give her another chance as soon as he ran into the aftereffect of Luz’s prior chance. Luz even brings it up, “That doesn’t count, right?” And he still went through with it because he doesn’t actually care about what Luz needs, he just wants to punish her!!!
It’s Be Gay, Do Crimes until the protagonist performs actual crimes and suddenly she has to be arrested. Nobody questioned how at least half the incidents Luz was sent to the office over were clear overreactions by the school; Things that didn’t harm anyone! It’s almost as if, gee, maybe sometimes kids DO cause problems, but there’s a particular bias and double-standard regarding certain demographics, and so they’ll be punished for the same things other well-behaved kids get away with! Principal Hal clearly had it out for Luz from the start , so I really don’t care about his judgment.
It’s all about restorative justice for criminals, until one of them does something even remotely problematic and suddenly they have to be hauled off and not worked with. It’s all about supporting child welfare, recognizing that kids are a struggling and oppressed class in and of themselves, until Luz is having her entire summer vacation, a whole three-months period to herself that is idolized in our culture by kids for this reason, to be sent learning how to do taxes.
But nnoooo these are important life skills, you argue! But if your parents used up your whole vacation, your only reprieve, to send you to a camp where you had to learn these things, you would understandably be calling it child abuse. Y’all stress the importance of breaks and how school genuinely wears a kid down, and vacation is legitimately necessary; But Luz is a Problem Child and you’ll say it with unironic contempt.
And that’s not even getting into the implicit bigotry of the system, because under kids’ show censorship you can’t actually SAY that the system is targeting Luz disproportionately for being brown. But you can definitely imply it, just as in Teen Titans, Cyborg goes on a whole spiel about how he can verbalize Starfire’s struggles with fantasy bigotry without her even having to explain it to him, clarifying that he knows because he’s… part-robot.
Belos isn’t allowed to rant about indigenous peoples but his attempted genocide of natives in a fantasy world is so obviously meant to hearken to what IRL Puritans did with Native Americans, and the show even clarifies that its universe’s witch hunters had the same motives as IRL witch hunters, who were racist, misogynistic, etc. Lilith tells Luz to go back to her world. The Reality Check Camp has Masha, an obvious Russian migrant child, a dark-skinned kid, and another kid based off of Molly Knox Ostertag, who is openly queer. Gee, it’s almost as if the camp is targeting, specifically, kids who don’t fit within the cultural hegemony of the United States!
And yes, it’s interesting that Yesterday’s Lie creates ambiguity for Luz because these kids seemed to get along and find each other because of the camp… From her own perspective. But Luz doesn’t have the luxury of re-watching a scene carefully, she had other things on her mind. She’s canonically an Unreliable Narrator who remembers things as worse than they actually were, as revealed in the very next episode.
The kids said they found solidarity while also calling the camp terrible, so it’s clear it was an unintended side-effect of the camp, it had nothing to do with the camp itself; But Luz isn’t the calm, detached viewer. So her takeaway is something that will fuel her regret over coming to the isles, which her mother really contributes towards at the end of said episode.
I don’t think TOH is the pinnacle of Leftist media, obviously. It’s basic, entry-level stuff; But this is a kids show. So not only is its effort impressive for a kids show and setting the bar, but it’s also a good introduction for kids into other ideas. The writers are clearly operating off of ideas and beliefs, so it’s fun analyzing how they bleed into their work, how they think to convey these ideas, and Readings are always a thing. And also, yeah; It IS a kids show! What I’ve said should be obvious to kids, the first episode is cartoonishly obvious, but some of y’all are actual grown adults who still can’t get it, how embarrassing!
And in the end, I don’t think it’s because you don’t have the skills. I think some of y’all do understand, but are just contrarians who live in a perfect bubble where you don’t notice the system’s issues and are insistent on taking its side, even when the narrative is unambiguous about its fault. I also think some of y’all are just racist, and/or misogynistic. That some of the people saying this are white does not elude me.
I know I toss those words around a lot, but seriously; It genuinely is everywhere, but of course privileged people can ignore it, and treat women and PoC as insane and overreacting. It’s Not That Deep until it bleeds into everything, including people’s writing and how they engage with media. Luz was struggling with the viewers’ own racism since the first episode.
The most absurd part is that the show does get around to this; It does address that Luz can get carried away, and that she needs to be more mindful. It can also be nuanced in acknowledging that she was disproportionately targeted and punished for being “weird.” The first episode sets up the show’s conflict, its themes, its status quo and cast; As well as the flaws and trajectory of our main character’s arc. It begins addressing these things pretty early on with Luz learning to be more mindful as early as the fourth episode.
But y’all are adults who lack reading comprehension with a kids show, and demand every issue of the protagonist be resolved in its first episode, which is already going fast because of everything else it’s handling, on top of its first lesson for our protagonist. Y’all really needed Luz’s flaws to be resolved ASAP instead of her development occurring naturally over the course of the show, and ending with the show because it’s about her story.
Because you can’t bear to deal with a girl of color’s flaws being a consistent thing on the backburner spaced across the show for her to eventually conquer, she needs to be punished immediately! Because it’s not enough that she learns and grows from her mistakes, no Luz needs to also be punished in a show that starts off talking about the system’s disproportionate punishment. But then y’all see your white faves and complain about how they were so much more fun when they were mean, why didn’t they stay mean, why didn’t we get more time for them to be mean before they had character development…!

What are some good RPGs that would say are good examples of being queer?
Sorry it took me a while to reply to this!
Anyway, my favorite capital Q Queer RPGs are Monsterhearts and Dungeon Bitches. Monsterhearts is the subtler of the two, being basically a game about playing a CW style teen drama with monsters that is basically a genre mashup of Vampire Diaries, Ginger Snaps, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Jennifer's Body. The queerness is very much textual but it's more so thematic and symbolic. The game's themes are queerness and adolescence and growing up, the vehicle it uses to explore those themes is monsters, because queer teens often get made to feel monstrous for having feelings and desires that fall outside of the norm.
Dungeon Bitches by @cavegirlpoems on the other hand is much more explicit about its queerness, in the sense that the queerness is also explicitly and unambiguously written into the fiction of the game. It is a game that is very much grounded in the dungeon-crawling genre of fantasy but that asks the question of "what kind of people would actually get into the dungeon-crawling life" and answers that with "people who are otherwise marginalized in so-called civilized society, especially queer women." It's very much a game that uses the dungeon crawling lifestyle to present a dialectic between the "safety" offered by the closet and normative society, and the precariousness and danger and the undeniable thrill of living as your true self. It's a game that is resonant to me not only as a fan of dungeon crawl type games but also as a trans woman making her first small steps towards transition. It's a fucked up game for fucked up dolls.
There are plenty of other queer games too, including Thirsty Sword Lesbians, Queerz, Girl by Moonlight, Dream Askew, and many many more. I think Thirsty Sword Lesbians is the most well-known and I do own it and at the end of the day it kind of leaves me cold. It feels like it's trying to play things a bit too safe and at the same time I feel its politics of identity are just messy.
Anyway, this is something I've been thinking of for a while, but since I've been thinking a lot about queer games not only in terms of "does it have the Gay" but also in terms of "does it thematically intersect with questions of queerness," I have to mention Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy by @anim-ttrpgs.
So okay having been involved in the community surrounding Eureka for a while there is something about that game that appeals to LGBTQ folks, especially trans women. Now, Eureka has of course been written primarily from the point of view of disability: the main writer is disabled and the game makes it explicit that many of the supernatural elements, including the monster investigator types, are symbolic of the experiences of the disabled. But because the experiences of marginalized groups tend to intersect a lot, many queer folks also end up seeing themselves there. Vampires in Eureka are written very much from a Christian folkloric point of view so that many Christians may see them as inherently anathema even while they may still maintain their faith; something that many queer Christians may resonate with. Similarly, one of the monster types, the Thing from Beyond, is all about being an alien shape shifter trying to navigate a society that is ultimately scary and alien to them. There's also Living Dolls up in that thang!!!
There is more to Eureka that makes it appeal to many queer readers, but the main thing is this: it is written from a point of view that is ultimately empathetic of the "freaks" and outcasts. And while it does approach these topics from the point of view of disability, it is also very open to queer readings.
And this is sort of a source of gentle ribbing within the Eureka community: that the lead writer ends up writing stuff that resonates deeply with his friends and fans of the game, a significant number of whom happen to be trans women, and that this has to be pointed out to him constantly. It's really sweet and funny. (Fun anecdote: when I first came out as a trans woman he approached me in my DMs asking "So you're a chick now?" followed by a 👍 emoji.)
And I think that's a fun contrast. Many games that ultimately do not touch upon queerness in any meaningful way in their themes or gameplay will still get lauded as queer because they will use identity as a coat of paint or a part of their marketing. And at the same time someone writing candidly about their experiences of living with disability via metaphor may end up accidentally writing something that actually resonates with the lived experiences of queer people.

through your eyes i see, a smile you bring to me
matt murdock with sculptor!gf who makes a sculpture of him because she wants to have matt see himself through her eyes.
sculptor!gf who has him sit for a few hours, she thinks its a tortuous process as she takes rough sketches, pictures from different angles, and carves out the main areas of his face into the clay but he doesn't mind–he focuses on her breathing and the beat of her heart as he meditates.
it's made over the next days, in a little studio where sculptor!gf works tirelessly. it has to be perfect.
“don't sacrifice your style for my sake,” matt says one day when she tells him about how tedious it is to smooth out the clay. he knows that when she usually sculpts, it's rough, patches of clay pressed over each other in textured harmony. “you won't be able to feel it then,” she murmurs distractedly, hunched over her workspace. “it doesn't matter, angel. it’s your eyes isn't it?” he counters and she begrudgingly concedes, she hides her smile and he can feel it in the way she bites into her lip.
she doesn't know how far his sight goes, if she can even call it that. does he know what he looks like? is he only able to picture himself from before the accident? when he was a child? does he feel his face like he carefully did hers when she walked him up to his apartment after a night out with foggy and karen? she plans to ask him these things later, she still has so many questions about his situation but for now this will do.
when it's finally finished and she presents it to him, she's a nervous wreck. he can hear the way her heart races as she sets it down on his coffee table. the way her muscles strain slightly tells him the piece is heavy and he thinks about how she carried it all the way over to his place, his lips curling into a small smile. he pats the seat beside him for her to sit.
he reaches out to the mass he senses in front of him, hands settling over what he assumed was his hair. to be fair the texture did make it difficult to feel but it was clear that he passed over the swoop of his hair when he did. his fingers trail lower and she watches intently as they purposefully skim over his forehead, then his eyebrows, over the bridge of his nose. they part as the drag over the highs of his cheeks and down to his jaw where the dried clay replicates his scruff that she oh so admires. one hand drops down to her knee where he caresses lightly in appreciation and the other curls around the back of the sculpture's neck, thumb hooking around under his chin.
he pauses there, noting the placement of a scar, right above his adam's apple, where a line of raised skin used to reside, now less prominent due to time passed but there nonetheless. his thumb passes over it a few times, recalling how when he first met her that cut was fresh–he’d never have known stumbling half-dead into her art studio months ago would have led to this and god was he grateful for whoever beat him up that night.
she leans her head against his shoulder, also thinking what he was. she presses a kiss into his shirt, “do you like it?”
“yeah. i really do,” he whispers earnestly, “thank you.”
she lifts from his shoulder to hold his face, similar to how he was with the mound of clay but with infinitely more care. “i don't think i could ever replicate how perfect you are,” she matches his tone, a little sad. it makes her sad that he’ll never truly be able to see himself but it’s ok, she’ll be there to tell him–and show him–for however long she can.

Dreams
Genre: fluff
Relationship type: bsfriend!Chan x fem reader
Important Contents: it came to me in a dream, what can I say.
WC: 1k
masterlist
It was one of those dreams again.
I came to my senses always before I wanted to. Right when the dream was getting good, I would become very aware that there was a bright light coming from somewhere, a window maybe. My next notion was that my blankets were too hot; my fan wasn’t quite doing its job. Sucky fan.
Yet another dream about finding the love of my life with blackish-brown hair, a big smile, and a laugh that filled your soul. This one felt so real though. We had been in this big house with all of his friends and my friends and they were desperate to see us get together and of course, all of the attempts were obvious. The boy was blushing so hard his ears turned red, but he never asked them to stop. My friends were doing everything they could to clear a room for us. I tried to shoot them pleading looks all night but to no avail.
It felt earlier than normal. I was certain my alarm would go off any second now to pull me away from this happy middle ground I was in the middle of. It was such a nice dream that I thought if I could just drift off again, I could go back to it. But the blankets were too hot, my breathing was too shallow, and I felt myself slowly rise from that dreamland, probably never to be found again.
But things were different.
Outside of my consciousness, the air around me was off. The familiar scent of my bedroom wasn’t filling my nostrils like it should have. No, instead, the smell of something…edible…
It was still a struggle to open my eyes. A blur, everything blurred together and I couldn’t see straight. That’s what I blamed it on, anyway. Because there was no way that most of the stuff in my bedroom was black. And where did those LED lights come from? Where is my phone? Whose fucking house am I in??
A knock on the door brought my bleariness to full alert. And then that boy that I had been dreaming about came through the door. Eyes soft, black hair with some curls poking through, and a soft smile that made my heart jump. He was bringing a plate of something over to the bed that I was laying on, face-first into a pillow.
“Hey, sunshine.”
I grumbled something incoherent.
“Tough night, huh?”
I furrowed my brows, and looked at him through my smushed face. Huh?
“What are you on about, Bang?”
“You crashed pretty hard last night. You would barely move off the couch.”
“Then how did I get here?”
“I had to carry you so you wouldn’t get a crick in your neck.” His laugh squeaked out of him. “After everyone left, you passed out.”
“How drunk was I?”
“You started renaming all of our Skzoos. What does that tell you?”
I chuckled at the memory that was then coming back to me. “Oh yeah. Leebitch.”
“You named Bbokari ‘Dinner’, which was very creative by the way. Felix is waiting for your apology. And that was just the start.” He laughed. “You tried to draw vampire teeth on WolfChan before I took the marker away from you.”
I scoffed. “You should see what Stay says about that music video, vampire man.” He squeaked out another laugh.
“Oh, I know.” A pause as he looked over at me, in his bed. A question came to mind.
“If I slept here, where did you sleep?”
“You wouldn’t let me leave. You have an iron grip when you’re drunk. I couldn’t even get up to brush my teeth.”
“Which I bet was the first thing you did this morning, wasn’t it.”
“...Maybe.” He handed me the plate of kimchi stir fry he had brought and settled on the empty side of the bed. “So…do you remember what happened last night?”
My fork froze mid-air. “Uhm…Not really. Fill me in?” I said, staring at the plate.
“Everyone was teasing you about me. Any ideas why?”
“Did Minho make this? Because it’s really good.” I scarfed down more so my mouth was full.
“After your conversation with Felix, everyone made themselves scarce. Which was convenient, I thought, considering your plan.”
I swallowed. “Plan? What plan?” I braced, unsure if I wanted to hear my drunken foretellings of what I had wanted to go down last night. I had an inkling of course, given my hidden undying love for the boy sitting in front of me but would I say that out loud?
“Your plan to get me to fall in love with you after everyone leaves.”
Shit. Yes, yes I would say it out loud.
Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuck
I snorted, trying to let my attempt at ease become real.
“Now why would I say a thing like that? That’s…crazy, Preposterous, even. That’s sooo unlike anything I would ever say.”
“Oh yeah?” Chris raised his eyebrows at me, peering at me like I had stolen something. That shut me up. I just stared at him.
“Why are you not freaking out?”
“Because your plan worked.”
I choked on the rice. After a serious coughing fit and the tears stopped welling up, it was all I could do to continue to stare blankly at him and just say “What?”
“Dude. I’ve been in love with you for several months now.”
“I don’t think I’ve ever been professed to while it is being proceeded by the word ‘dude’.” He just kept laughing.
“Sorry, it slipped out. But I mean it.”
I didn’t know what to say. I just stared.
“You can keep staring at me after you take a shower, I promise.”
That broke me of my stupor.
“Did you just tell the love of your life that she smells?”
“Who said you’re the love of my life?” He called over his shoulder, heading to the bathroom.
“I believe I did. Just now.” Climbing out of bed was a struggle, but the giddyness of the events that had just unfolded was enough motivation. “Are you joining me in this shower?”
“Maybe!”

Love your Eden’s Garden analyses my dude. Seriously, you’ve tackled aspects of certain characters I hadn’t even considered. I agree about Eloise being one of the blackened, girl is hiding nerves of steel behind a thin layer of shyness. I also think she’s gonna be connected to Desmond as the thing he guards and trusts the most (in reference to what was described in his blackmail). Upon further analysis, Desmond strikes me as someone who wants people to trust him, but has issues trusting others, outside of maybe Eloise. In a nutshell, he wants people to trust him without him putting his trust in other people. That’s his hypocrisy, in my mind at least.
I’m also gonna keep an eye on Grace in the chapter(s) going forward, in addition to Diana and Kai. Her silence after Eva’s execution speaks volumes. Mayhaps she’ll be going through a character arc? I feel like even SHE thought that execution was way too cruel.
On to my questions though! Out of curiosity, with what you’ve said about students’ deaths being linked to their hypocrisies, who do you think is the least hypocritical in the cast? By extension, who do you think is most likely to survive and/or die, at least within the next chapter or two?
Thanks so much lol I'm glad people ave enjoyed my thoughts so far and I've loved hearing everyone else's opinions and theories as well this whole week!
As to answer your question, I've got to say I think the "least" Hypocritical student so far is actually a controversial opinion of mine since I've noticed lots of people don't like his character T_T
It's Kai Monteago. (Note: I have NOT done everyone's FTE's yet but I'm gonna watch each one for this update soon!)
Now, this does not mean I don't think Kai lies or is a hypocrite, just that I think out of everyone on the cast so far he's the one who's the most honest about how he actually feels.
If Wolfgang is the most Hypocritical person because he hides everything he's feeling and doesn't let anyone know what he's actually thinking, then I think Kai is the least hypocritical out of the student body (minus Damon & Diana bc I think they're both being set up obviously as the protag and antag) because he's so honest about everything about himself and doesn't actually feel the need to hide his own insecurities, worries, fears, and anxieties.
Whenever anything goes remotely bad, Kai is always the first out of the cast to admit he didn't actually trust anyone, he's also the only one who's outwardly always wary of others and nervous. He just doesn't like thinking about the potential for someone murdering him or someone winding up dead. But it's pretty clear just from how he acts in his FTE's, trial, and body discovery that he not only doesn't trust anyone there but that he's not afraid to admit that openly when shit hits the fan.
For Kai, it seems like he's fully aware of the situation and thus knows that just agreeing with whatever the rest of the cast is talking about will keep him safe. He obviously is still a bit of a hypocrite because he's judging the ones who openly admit to not trusting other people, but he's also the first of the cast to always admit he had reservations about trusting them to begin with.
In a way, I can't exactly say Kai is a bad person because of his hypocrisy. He's only been an Ultimate for like 1-2 years, which is way less time than most of the student body. All of this is very new to him, he reminds me of Makoto in that sense where he was someone who would've never thought they'd be an Ultimate, or someone who became one by chance. Even the story he shares of how he became The Ultimate Influencer makes me believe that it really was just dumb luck that he got his title.
And he's only really falling in line because he obviously sees the way everyone treats you when you don't agree with the majority opinion, even if that majority opinion is rooted in rationality. In a way, it makes sense that Kai would act this way because he's an Influencer and has to deal with widespread groupthink about himself daily lol Any small action he did in the outside world was scrutinized and judged by an invisible audience, so now when he's in a situation like this he just goes with whatever will make the most people like him.
Though I can definitely see Kai breaking out of that kind of mindset the more he becomes friends with other people, and now that Wolfgang is gone, I definitely think the rest of them will act more freely instead of looking towards a leader of sorts. This is also why I think Kai will be the "support" character for Damon that we thought Eva would be. Kai is the one person left now who's wholly honest about himself, meaning he and Damon can become friends quicker that way and potentially work on investigations.
Also the two of them have very similar talents in the sense that "anyone could do this". But their ideas about their talents are swapped. Someone mentioned earlier that they think Damon might hate being a Debater or that he has some kind of insecurity rooted in the fact that he's a Debater. And I kind of agree. Where as Kai is wholly proud of his title as the Ultimate Influencer, Damon is very insecure about being seen as the Ultimate Debater and makes up for it with a big ego.
He doesn't let anyone look down on him for being an internet personality, and doesn't let lies about his past or things people wouldn't know about anyways (like the scandal he mentions in his FTE) get to him. But Damon flounders when someone even remotely challenges the idea of his talent being "useless" to society. In truth, the both of them are like foils and will probably be paired more often especially since they share a room together.
#This is not to say that Kai doesn't or never worked hard or whatever#but the story for FTE reminds me of the youtubers who made a video one day that just went viral lol#p:eg#kai monteago#project eden's garden#damon maitsu#manifesting Kai Support but its just my kaimon rotted brain speaking#p:eg chapter 1#kai also has experience with people blatantly lying about him and or making things up about him#so I think that makes him inherently distrusting of others right out the gate#but also a secretive person by nature like he obviously hides things about himself bc of his experience as an influencer#and not because he has some dark shadowy past lol#p:eg spoilers#wolfgang akire

Who Arcane Characters Would Like The Most If They Watched Steven Universe + How they started watching
Im going to preface this by saying it may not be 100% accurate, this is my pregame before I rewatch ALL of Steven Universe beginning to SUFuture so why not shove the current interest in?
BY THE WAY: this is them watching no matter what so if you’re like “omfg they would never!!” Now they are. What’re you gonna do? Scroll??
Jinx
Jinx was a hard Amethyst stan until the movie came out and Spinel ChokedSlammed Her Into The Floor
She started watching because she caught the tail of “So Many Birthdays” (the one where Steven ages and ages and ages) and immediately decided this was her thing now
She gets into arguments online about her favs and she is the one posting getting blocked and bragging about winning the argument
“You can just say you don’t understand characters who are complex, you don’t have to write all this for things we OBVIOUSLY KNOW.”
While Amethyst and Spinel are her favs, she will go to BAT for any character being mischaracterized
Do not let her catch you talking shit about Mx.Lapis Lazuli, she will Hurt You.
Vi
Speaking of people with will Hurt You, Vi does not play about Steven Quartz Cutiepie Demayo Universe.
Vi started after multiple instances of Jinx ranting to her inconsistently for hours about arguments she gets into online
Like Jinx bursts into the room like “Vi, These people couldn’t fucking comprehend media if there was a gun to their head, and Yknow what? I’m putting it there” and Vi is hooked
“Oh my god…..they are stupid…” “THATS WHAT IM SAYING” I kinda hc that vi is the type that likes hearing about drama no matter where it comes from it just has to be juicy
One time Jinx called Steven a normie favorite character pick and Vi then went on a 95 minute rant about how kind and sensitive he is
“Steven is a sensitive and kind boy who tries his best no matter the circumstances, even if he fails he still tries to be good. You have NO RIGHT to act like he’s some—“ “ VI OH MY GOD NEVERMIND IM SORRY, WE’VE BEEN HERE FOR AN HOUR PLEASE LET ME GO”
Vi kins Steven Universe and SU Future made her ugly sob with chest pain
Caitlyn
Caitlyn likes Pearl because the lesbian yearning over their ex to nerdy fem who can pull without trying storyline intrigued her deeply.
Originally Jinx compared her to Pearl because Jinx thinks she’s prissy and overbearing, this made Caitlyn block all official Steven universe accounts on every piece of social media.
Later Vi compared her to Pearl because Vi thinks she tries her best to help everyone even if she makes mistakes sometimes, thsi and Caitlyn unblock some Steven Universe accounts and watch alongside Vi sometimes
She doesn’t end up watching the show from the beginning, she just asks Vi questions and Vi explains how something fits into the story
“Why does Lapis despise Peridot so much? She’s like half her size if she’s an issue push her over” “Well Peridot reminds her of her trauma of being constantly used wherever she goes and never living for herself, she’d just be constantly triggered like she has been for thousands of years” “ohh… why don’t they just build a second place on the land?” “Cause the barn is cool” “ah,, makes sense.”
Any mention in the show about Pearl having a bunch of people’s numbers and Caitlyn is out of her chair cheering.
Ekko
Ekko is a fan of Bismuth and he’ll tell everyone else that it’s because the crystal gem rebellion was super interesting to him but deep inside his interest was first peaked because he finds the Bismuth puns genuinely funny like he guffaws at every one.
He started watching when Jinx showed him the clip of Steven having to poof Bismuth, and he made sure to go back through the series to really get what’s going on.
When the cluster was introduced he was appalled like this is the world’s greatest home-world hater, like he was even iffy on peridot for a whole extra season it was so bad
“At least she’s trying to redeem herself?” “I don’t care if she stops homeworld by herself I Don’t Like Her.”
The Diamond arc? Oh he is SAT for every episode and he is HEATED. He’s getting them (Jinx + family) sound complaints cause he keeps pausing to complain about whoever happens to be on screen
*blue diamond starts speaking* *insta pause* “AND HERE COMES THIS ONE.” “EKKO FOR FUCKS SAKE LET THE SHOW PLAY”
Ekko thinks the diamonds got off easy and drew a comic (that he keeps to himself and jinx) about how HE would’ve ended the show (it’s 48 pages)
Mel
Connie is so special to Mel, so special she sees herself in Connie so much that’s her daughter
Any scenes where Connie and her mom are clashing? Mel is pouring almost obsessively over the scenes just “oh my god…..oh,,,my god,,,” like if Mel had a kinlist?? Oh yeah. Absolutely.
She actually keeps pretty good track of animation projects and new series so she’s been watching since the beginning. The pitch of sentient rocks living around and with this half human half rock boy? Yeah she was definitely intrigued
And now emotionally wrecked, like she saw a clip of season 1 Steven while presently on the homeworld arc and almost fell to her knees her BABY
Auntie!Mel bonds with Jinx and Vi over it when visiting their house its like:
“Mel, if you wanted to run away from your home and ended up hurting people in the process, wouldn’t you take accountability for that?” “Well that depends on who I hurt.” “Let’s say you leave someone in a garden for like mmm random number six thousand years—“ “Spinel has full reason to be upset, I’d do worse if I were her” “RIGHT???”
“Whyre you and Jinx arguing? Aren’t you a bit old for the silent treatment?” “She keeps calling me basic for liking Steven.” “Steven? The character on a slow creep to a world terrorizing meltdown?” “RIGHT.” “Vi, not everyone you meet will have good taste like you and me, I’m so sorry”
She does think Jinx terrorizing online spaces is a little funny but is trying to be responsible and won’t tell her that outright
And by not tell her she means trying not to roll over laughing hearing Jinx read out the arguments
Sevika
If you asked Sevika why she liked Jasper, she’d say something like “I too have been forever changed by a lesbian relationship” or “smash.”
If you asked Sevika while she’s in a sad drunk mood she wouldn’t verbally answer and just mentally spiral about the perfect solider who keeps losing and losing and losing and losing and—don’t refill her cup, Sevika is going home, don’t call her damn phone, she’s busy
In this modern scenario, her and Jinx are still coworkers so when Jinx is watching video essays or character compilations on her breaks, Sevika will walk by and either stand and watch an intense part or make fun of what’s on screen
*Jasper climbs up the side of a boat to beg on her knees for Lapis to re-fuse* “ohh I’ve been there before,” “She’s begging her to reform into an eight armed monster where they constantly fought for dominance in the headspace at the bottoms of the ocean because Lapis— the blue one— didn’t want Jasper— the orange one— to kill Steven— the boy one.” “oh yeah no, me too (wtf??)”
Overtime Jinx started to refer to Jasper as Sevika’s favorite and kept giving her vague updates on her condition, that being said Sevika rewatched the entire series and future when she heard news of Jasper’s Shattering
“They shattered your goat.” “What goat??” *shows photo of Jasper’s shatter gem in Steven’s hand* “IS THAT FUCKING JASPER????”
Like she didn’t even wanna talk about what happened afterward she blocked Jinx and started watching immediately, Sevika was getting to the bottom of this (of what?? We have no clue she’s hurt rn)
Sevika will not discuss the emotional impact Steven Universe had on her. You’d have to have her at gunpoint and chemically paralyzed.

w/c: 4.8K
"So this is it then, huh?"
The wintry air was bitterly cold as the wind picked up, crystalline snowflakes falling soundlessly from the overcast evening sky. Suguru stood in front of you, his hands shoved in his pockets while his expression remained unreadable. For a moment, it was hard to tell if it was snowing harder or if your vision was simply blurring from the tears that were threatening to fall from your eyes. There was a bitter taste in your mouth, a nagging sense of disappointment gnawing at your stomach as you forced yourself to meet his gaze. You were warned, dozens of times, not to go nosing around in Suguru's complex world. But still, the temptation had been too great, and lost within your own illusion, you'd failed to notice the signs as they piled up in front of you.
"I don't know what you expected," He offered, shrugging his shoulders.
Hell, it wasn't like you expected different, deep down. Yet still, you felt owed something. Some kind of explanation after all this time that might perhaps make sense of the pain growing in your chest. You didn't want to believe the obvious, no, you couldn't. The Suguru you'd come to know wasn't the same one everyone spoke about, he wasn't the same party boy you'd met all those months ago. He was different - he is different.
"Why though, we were having fun, it was casual-"
"It doesn't really matter though, does it," He questioned, gazing around campus with avid interest.
"Like hell it doesn't!"
You're standing there huffing, crying harder as your brain realizes what's happening. How silly it all felt now, thinking that he could be anything different. Suguru Geto, a party boy whose two interests were alcohol and sex, preferably both at once. Was it the chase? The satisfaction of getting something he wanted, something hard earned? From kind words and late nights, he'd earned your trust and devotion - and suddenly overnight you became just like a string of his other hookups. A bitter ex.
"You said casual, I gave you casual. No strings attached, remember," He challenged, raising his eyebrows, "we agreed to break it off if things changed."
Still, you wanted to plead. Couldn't you just return to the start, before you got too close? Before you came to know a part of him that seemed invisible to the rest of the world, your own private Suguru who only shined when you did. Was it all casual, every kiss, every heartfelt touch, every time he ever fell asleep pressed to the cinderblock walls of your dorm room? Was it casual when he showed you his favorite songs and made a mixtape for you?
Which one of you toed the line first, though?
Was it you by accepting his initial invitation, having known the entire time that you always secretly hoped for something more? Was it delusion, or hope, that made you believe in a different version of him that was unlike the one everyone else knew?
"I have to go," Suguru said, nodding his head towards the maze of buildings behind him, "I have a meeting with one of my professors."
He doesn't wait for your response, turning his back towards you as he threaded through the snow. It fell harder now, the late December sky devoid of any meaningful light. You tried not to feel bitter, tried to remind yourself that you were prepared for this reality. Hell, maybe you were naive, an outsider to his strange world, destined to always watch from the window. Why did you feel so paralyzed, standing alone in the snow as you watched him retreat?
When did it start, when did everything change, could you ever go back to before? Even if it meant always keeping him at a distance?
The distant hum of a thundering bass track echoes down the empty pathways of campus, a mix of sweaty bodies spilling out of a two story home. It sits on the edge of campus, nothing special yet definitely the nicest on the block when considering the standard of college rentals. It was larger than the others, the only two story, and it was currently known by its reputation as 'the party house'. If you were looking to get drunk on the weekends, you'd walk over and you were almost always guaranteed to find a party happening. This weekend, however, was a special occasion - it was the start of the semester blow out, which meant that almost everyone who knew was going.
You stood on the sidewalk in front of the house, gnawing on the inside of your cheek as a gust of late August air swept past your exposed skin. The dress you'd bought on impulse was shorter than you were used to, but any fear you might have had dulled as you saw the numerous mini skirts and tight crop tops. It was the start of something new, a chance to be someone different in order to shed yourself of a lingering sense of social isolation. It wasn't that you couldn't make friends, per say, but simply that you had a difficult time trusting others.
Sure, a college party might not have been the best place to find new friends, but it wasn't like you had to become best friends with these people. That was the beauty of college - there was no social pressure to remain friends.
More people spilled out from the open doorway clutching solo cups, their faces soft pink from intoxication. The bass track grew louder as you slowly made your way inside. There were at least a hundred people packed in the first floor alone, everybody blissfully in their own world. There was a group crowded around the television, some game you didn't recognize playing on the screen as people watched the progression. In the kitchen, the crowd was less dense, roughly ten that were speaking quietly amongst themselves around a litany of various alcohols.
The smell of marijuana was floating down from the basement, thin plumes of smoke rising up the stairwell as you ventured further down. The bulk of the party goers were down there, but the space sprawled out further than you anticipated. Colorful stage lights were placed meticulously around the room, illuminating the dark room in a rainbow of different shades. The stereo sat in the corner, speakers in each corner of the room rattling as people shouted over the music to each other.
There was another alcohol table set up in one of the corners, and a couple kegs to either side of it. It was clear the hosts had spared no expense, but it was immediately obvious why the home had garnered the title of Party House. You'd heard of the hosts only in passing, seeing them a handful of times around campus. In your previous semester, you'd been too nervous to ever attempt going somewhere like that alone, so you'd mainly stuck inside your dorm. It wasn't that you weren't nervous now, of course, but you were hoping to latch on to the one or two familiar faces you were bound to find.
Almost immediately, your eyes find one such familiar face, but a pit of vexation claws its way inside your stomach at the sight of him. In the spring, you'd had the displeasure of having a class with one Satoru Gojo, who, despite his good looks, was one of the most annoying figures you'd encountered. He was overly confident, and dreadfully cocky, but most painfully - he was incredibly smart. It was hard to call him on anything without inspiring the ire of over half the women on campus.
He enjoyed interrupting classes immensely, one of those students who thought they knew more than the professor, and he would keep it going until he noticed the teacher was getting pissed. Then, he'd simply toss his arms up with a little grin and say, 'I'll surrender'. It made getting through any lecture a hassle but you weren't trying to get on the campus golden boy's bad side. It was easier to avoid him, and so you had - until now.
He stood behind the alcohol table as the bartender of sorts, only he'd stopped short of serving his guests as his attention was entirely focused on the woman standing before him. She had her fingers wrapped around the collar of his shirt, her lips ghosting over his as a dopey, love struck smile came over his face. It was amusing, almost, to see someone so confident become complete putty in someone's hand.
"Satoru!"
A heavy voice spread over the crowd from immediately behind you, the looming presence of a stranger abruptly close. You jumped on reflex, goosebumps rising to your arms as a hand pressed against the middle of your back. The figure moved forward, and almost immediately you were struck by his appearance. To say he was gorgeous was the understatement of the year, possibly the decade.
He was taller than the other party goers, with stark black hair that was wrapped up in a bun, strands falling and framing his face in the colorful light. It was almost ethereal, the way he turned to look at you over his shoulder as he moved past you. A strobe light was reflecting off the piercings in his ears, his eyes a dark yet warm mahogany brown. You were so taken by him that you almost missed him speaking directly to you.
"Sorry, doll."
He said it with a grin, and almost as quickly as he arrived, he was gone as he lurched through the crowd towards his friend. Satoru was pouting, his expression one of annoyance as the woman peered between the two of them.
"Whaaatt," He was whining, wrapping one arm around the woman.
You missed the rest of their conversation, their voices only a soft murmur amongst the loud voices at the party. You pulled a bottle from a tub filled with melting ice, not quite trusting the various hard liquors that had been passed around by everyone that night. On a small couch pressed to the wall, you were relieved once more to find your across the hallway dorm neighbor - Shoko.
She lounged cooly on the loveseat by herself, no one daring to approach as she took a slow drag from a cigarette perched between her fingers. She was speaking softly to another person sitting across from her. It was Haibara, a boy you'd had a handful of classes with in the previous semester. He was quiet, and you'd worked on a few projects with him during midterms. Not a remarkably noticeable character, but he did his work and was relatively kind, as far as you could tell.
Shoko's eyes drift over to you, lifting in surprise as she takes you in.
"You came out of the cave," She says cooly, a small small stretching across her features as she gestures to the seat beside Haibara.
You take the cue with gratitude, settling down in the empty seat as Haibara shoots you a welcoming smile.
"What made you wanna come here of all places," She asked.
"I just wanted to..."
You trailed off, pondering the real reason. Sure, you wanted to do something different but it was more than that. It was about proving to yourself that you weren't secretly just strange, to erase the alien feeling that you felt when trying to connect with people. You had friends back home - why was it so hard to do the same thing here? It was like a wall stood between you and anyone you tried to connect with, but it always followed the same pattern.
It would go well at first, exchanging absentminded small talk and sharing similar interests. Then without fail, you'd think about the interactions too hard and end up saying something weird or off putting, effectively killing your chances at friendship immediately. It was one thing to be weird in an established relationship, it was another thing to bring it full force right out of the gate. So, you opted mostly to remain silent.
"A drink," Shoko offers, as if sensing your internal discomfort.
"Yeah, definitely."
You open up the bottle - it's one of those low percentage wine coolers that tastes like an overly sweetened cherry cough medicine. The taste of alcohol is barely there, but it lingers at the back of your throat uncomfortably long as you try hard to appear more naturally in front of the crowd.
"I didn't know you two knew each other," Haibara says, "we had biology together last semester and got saddled with Mei for the final."
He groans at the memory, as you recall Mei - the only person on campus who might have been stranger than you felt. It worked for her, in a weird, off putting way, but only simply because she was conventionally attractive and had the confidence of a God. She was, however, an absolute scam artist and had paid someone else to do her portion of the final. Naturally, her portion had come on the final day for submissions, which had sent both you and Haibara into a panic as you exchanged frenzied texts in the group chat.
"Oh I would have complained," she said, laughing, "what a tragedy."
"She almost screwed us!"
The three of you fell into an easy rapport, milling over your upcoming classes as graduation loomed closer. Really, this is the semester you should be focusing on the most - but you'd spent 7 out of your 8 semesters holed up inside your dorm basically, attending few campus events. Sure, your grades were fantastic because of it, but you wanted to do something more before entering into full adulthood and post grad life. Something to remember the experience by that wasn't nights spent cramming over materials - something memorable and exciting.
"What are you gonna do post grad?"
The question is directed at you, both of them looking at you in curiosity.
"Something in business, probably."
You'd chosen a boring yet stable major, the stability of a predictable life far more appealing than something riskier with less opportunity. Growing up in chaos had motivated your internal desire, you'd had enough excitement already. This final semester was like the last hurrah, the goodbye to any partying era you might have.
"You're just like Nanami," Haibara says, grinning, "you remind me a lot of each other."
"You're so right," Shoko agrees, nodding her head encouragingly.
"He's already got a job lined up as a salaryman, he's so lucky..."
Nanami Kento, a name that rings a bell only after a few moments of reflection. He'd entered into university early, having graduated tech school a year earlier than any of his peers. Like you, he was relatively quiet and often sat in the front row of the few classes you shared together. He didn't seem to care for the college world of partying and reckless decisions - at twenty, he already seemed so much older. He would do well in the business world, you were sure of it.
"Maybe if you studied harder you'd have a job lined up," Shoko teased, "but you're here instead."
At that, Haibara blushes, crossing his arms over his chest in mock defiance. Shoko laughs, her voice pleasant among the music. You'd relaxed enough during the exchange to let your guard down, missing the way her eyes flickered just above your head, her hand raising in a greeting. You turned around, your breath catching in your throat once more as you stared at the boy with long hair from earlier. He wasn't looking at you this time, his attention focused surely on Shoko.
"Look at you being social," He teased, his voice like honey when paired with the vibrating bass, "come do pong with us."
She looks to you in invitation, quirking her eyebrows up. Haibara was pouting, disappointed not to have been chosen as you looked between the two of them in slight alarm. You'd never played beer pong before, doubting your skill against people who were very clearly more experienced. The stranger from before clapped one hand down against the back of the arm chair, turning his attention to you finally as he extended the other hand.
"Come on, we'll take it easy on you guys."
You have to remind yourself of your motivation, your desire to be more social as you reluctantly stand up. Shoko followed behind you, with Haibara gesturing you towards the table in the corner. Luckily, most people are in their own little worlds, staring at the table with only vague interest. Satoru was already standing on one end, lining up cups in a triangle before looking up to your arrival.
"You got two!"
You go to stand beside Shoko as she bounces a pong ball against the table, waiting for him to finish setting up.
"Listen, it's easy. Just sink the balls in their cup, Just don't think about it too hard."
It seemed like an impossible act, a reminder of how little she knows you. Still, you steel your nerves as Satoru tossed another ball towards you. You caught it easily, breathing a sigh of relief as you narrowed your gaze down the folding table. Shoko shot first, easily sinking her ball into one of the back cups with ease as the stranger fished it out with a slight grin.
"Don't think about it," Shoko urged.
You take her advice, acting on impulse as you shoot, watching in anticipation as it circles the rim of a cup, before trailing off, bouncing against the table and right into Satoru's hand.
"You're psyching her out, Sho," The stranger says.
At that, the stranger shoots, easily sinking a ball in one of your cups as Satoru does the same for Shoko. It feels almost unfair to be pit against two people who are very clearly experienced in playing. You're determined, however, fishing the ball from the cup as you take a long drink from the bottle, wincing slightly at the sweet cherry flavor. The pressure is on you again, but you take Shoko's advice and toss the ball before you have time to overthink it. To your pleasure, it falls almost immediately in the center cup, and beside you, Haibara starts cheering.
"Nice," the stranger purred, his head tilting back to expose his pale neck as he takes a drink, "you'll be a pro in no time.”
You brighten up at his praise, giving him a gentle smile. Shoko seems proud, grinning as she sinks another ball. By now, people have begun to grow more interested in the game as you go back and forth, the cups on the table dwindling as you begin to feel looser and more confident. Much as you hate to admit it, Satoru was decent company while not in class, his bombastic personality suiting the party scene in a way that provides a never ending stream of amusement.
“Hey, Shoko,” Your voice was a mere whisper as you leaned over towards her, watching from your peripheral vision as she tossed the pong ball. “Hm?” “Whose Satoru’s friend?”
You were chewing the inside of your cheek, watching as the stranger’s face twisted with concentration, preparing his next shot.
“Suguru,” She answered smoothly, “trust me on this one though, it’s not a hill you wanna climb.”
There’s an undertone to her phrasing, a deeper expression taking hold of her usually bored face. There’s tension there, and you immediately back down, content with her answer. It made sense, much as you wanted to ignore the small tickle of disappointment that had flooded you. A party boy being messy, who could have guessed. He seemed more reserved than Satoru, unphased by the attention of others as he high fived his friend, gleeful at his successful shot.
You take another long drink. At this point, you’re both evenly tied with three cups each. Suguru was watching you intensely, waiting for your next move as you took a deep breath, watching as the ball missed completely, bouncing off the table as Shoko cursed quietly next to you, missing her own shot as it bounces off Satoru’s torso.
“You tryna tell me something,” He chuckles, right before missing his own shot.
“Flop,” Haibara retorted, Suguru elbowing him lightly as he sunk another ball.
At this point, you’re determined to win, so close to victory and desperate to prove that you can. You tossed yours at the same time as Shoko, the balls bouncing off each other and by some strange miracle, landing squarely into the two cups as a cheer came from the surrounding crowd.
“Holy shit you can’t recreate that,” Haibara is grinning, shaking your shoulder as Suguru and Satoru each take a drink in defeat.
You and Shoko have two cups, but it’s down to one on their side. All they have to do is sink their shots and the game is theirs. Satoru was lining up, his expression gleeful as he tossed the ball and it landed perfectly, water splashing up from the cup with a soft splash as Shoko groaned next to you. Suguru hesitated, his eyes flickering between you and the cup and in almost teasing manor. It brings a grin across your face as your eyebrows raise, daring him to take the shot as he acknowledges your challenge. His eyes were alight with mischief as he took the shot, missing almost comically as he shrugged his shoulders, Satoru’s mouth dropping open as he grabbed a hold of his shoulders, shaking him.
“You threw! You threw it, I can’t believe you-”
In the chaos, Shoko snapped up the final ball, sinking into their remaining cup with ease as people cheered around you. Shoko was staring at Suguru, her eyebrows raised in question as he shrugged Satoru off, slowly moving around the table to face you. As the adrenaline of the game wears off, you become aware of yourself once more, flustered beneath his stare as you grip the empty bottle in your hand a little tighter.
“Good game,” He says, his voice husky and inviting as he nods his head towards the stairwell, “can I get you another one?”
He was pointing towards the empty bottle, the invitation clear as you shuffle awkwardly on your feet.
“I think I’m gonna head back,” Shoko announced, cutting the tension herself as she returned to your side. “You coming?”
It was getting late, and you were already cursing yourself for signing up for a 9 AM class as you nodded in agreement. Part of you did want to stay and see where the night went, but there was also a part of you that felt the lingering current of unease surrounding Suguru. Handsome as he was, he was a stranger to you, and Shoko’s words were already echoing in your ear. Sure, you barely knew her, but you would always be more likely to take a woman’s warning when it was offered to you.
“I should go,” You offered, “but it was nice meeting you.”
Suguru’s eyes warmed as he nodded, his shoulders slumping slightly as Satoru wandered off once more into the crowd.
“Your name?” He asked, extending one large hand towards you. “(Y/N),” You replied, taking his hand as he wrapped his fingers around, warmth spreading across your palms as he shook it gently.
It almost makes you want to laugh, the formal nature of a handshake, but you’re almost too scared to accept anything else from him.
It’s become painfully apparent that you’re not the best with men in general - partially as a result of your own awkwardness and isolation, but also because of the obvious. You didn’t trust the majority of them, and certainly not ones like Suguru. It was a bad idea, definitely, to intrench yourself any further into his world.
“I’ll see you around,” He says, before disappearing into the crowd.
For a moment, you’re disappointed, but that’s the kicker with men like him. Always more fun to be around, but infinitely harder in the long run. He was about as far from your usual type as you could get, but so was the entire scene.
Shoko doesn’t wait for you as she begun her way up the stairs, leaving you to follow like a lost kitten as you head back out into the night. The moon has sunk lower, and a glance at your phone says 2:13 in the morning. It was already late when you decided to head out, but it was also hard to believe that you’d spent nearly an hour inside.
The walk to your dorm is short, the pathways illuminated as Shoko lit another cigarette, the smoke pluming over her head. You debate asking her for more information on Suguru, but decide against it in fear of seeming too forward. Besides, you aren’t willing to risk the fragile friendship you’ve formed with her by making her think you’re only interested in him.
“Just ask,” She said, as if sensing your thoughts as she casts a glance over her shoulder at you. “What do you mean by a hill I don’t wanna climb?”
Shoko sighed, slowing her pace to walk in tandem beside you as she pondered the right words to say. It’s not that she distrusts her own friend, or that he’s a bad person, but sometimes Suguru is well… Suguru.
“He’s like Satoru,” She said finally, “a lot to handle sometimes. He’s not really the relationship type, but he is a good friend when you need him to be.”
It was obvious already, but it still does little to stifle the slight disappointment. Were you even looking for a relationship? The question rattled around inside your mind incessantly. Sure, while you weren’t entirely opposed to a casual hookup, but you were also aware that it was a remarkably easy way to gain feelings when you didn’t want to. Furthermore, you couldn’t quite imagine trusting someone like that without knowing them incredibly well.
You decided to drop it as you entered the dorm hall. It would be easy enough to keep your distance, you figured. In your three years on campus you’d never encountered him directly before tonight. Shoko stopped in front of her door, turning to wave once more.
“G’night,” She murmured, “good luck with your classes.”
“Good luck,” You echo her sentiment, watching her retreat into her room as the door shuts with a soft click.
Inside your room the lights are dimmed with only the soft glow of a string of fairy lights that are strung up on the wall. You sprung for solo living this year, having tried your luck with various roommates over the years to no avail. The few you did have were characters in and of themselves, and so it was a great relief to have won a bid for the only solo hall on campus.
It had gotten too expensive to consider a place off campus, at least not without procuring a job. You’d barely managed the workload in the last semester without crashing out, so adding onto it was off the table. There were still a few unpacked boxes pressed to the walls, their contents spilling out onto the floor as you toed around them, slipping off your dress in favor of a pair of pajamas.
You felt a vague sense of accomplishment, proud of yourself for going out despite the internal desire not too. It would have been too easy not to, excuse yourself in favor of unpacking and finishing any last minute pre-semester requirements. Though anything you needed to do had already been done, no one else had to know that. Hell, no one else on campus knew you - besides the small group of acquaintances you’d gathered on happenstance.
That was the one benefit of being reclusive, it made it so much easier to go unnoticed, maintaining your anonymity and thus, your peace. Maybe it could be a good thing, though, to venture outside of your comfort zone. You’d already decided that this would be the year of bolder choices, and as you climbed into bed, you felt more confident in that decision.
~
Shit.
Any satisfaction you’d had last night from stepping out was almost immediately replaced with urgency as you woke up to read the time - 8:56 AM. You’d stumbled out of your dorm in a rush, having thrown on a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt before running out the door. It was a sprint across campus, and by the time you’d stumbled into the building at 9:01, you were embarrassingly out of breath and panting in the doorway as all your classmates looked at you with both pity and amusement.
You scanned the room for an empty desk, trying hard not to meet the eyes of your classmates as you skittered into the room. The professor paid you no mind, typing away at his computer as he began setting up a slideshow.
Double shit.
There was one desk left in the entire classroom - and it just so happened to be the one next to the same beautiful long haired stranger from last night. Suguru.

From @tourmelion :
Counter point, in season 1 they put attention on sevika and her changes as a person, Markus, Grayson, Mylo, Claggor, they don't change a ton put they change their mind on some things, make decisions, and even if they decide to do what they were doing before it's focused on as a decision, and it's explored well, and in season 2 they're not. The characters hardly challenge or interact, we never see Vi and Ekko interact, we never see jinx and Ekko interact, no one challenges anyone's decisions, sevika never comments on Vi being an enforcer, jinx is never held accountable or challenged on her action of killing silco, by sevika, it's like the characters are in their own bubble. And then they changed the theme half way through from class warfare to external invasion, but more than that, fighting off an army of evil robots, it kinda dislodges from the world building, at least to me It's not that these crucial scenes are rushed, they're skipped over or ignored, they had the whole robot war to ignore the class struggle, it felt like they skipped over stuff cause the remaining writers didn't know what to do with the themes given to them I'm of the opinion it's not rushed, just bad, cause they had time to flesh things out a little, and they didn't take the opportunity, instead having unnecessary scenes that don't add to anything, like the, "what's wrong with my pants?" scene, and just not touching on Vi's thoughts on Ekko, cause she saw the bridge explosion, shouldn't she be a little curious about what became of him, for all she knows Jinx killed him
First of all: Awesome, thanks for engaging!
Let's get into it:
In season 1, yes none of those characters were passive by-standers. But they still exist to serve the stories of the main characters. Mylo, Claggor and Greyson don't have scenes dedicated solely to them. Marcus is given quite a bit more focus and internality. But he still doesn't exist for his own sake, he exists as a foil for Caitlyn and as a tool for Silco. Learning more about Marcus helps shed more light on those more major characters too. The point still stands that Sevika is a supporting character and she exists to illuminate other characters, not to exist in her own right.
Furthermore, in season 2 Sevika still makes decisions and is still an active agent in her own life, we just don't get to see it.
You say in season 2 "The characters hardly challenge or interact."
I don't think it's true at all that characters don't challenge each other. Jinx and Vi, Vi and Cait, Jayce and Mel, Mel and Ambessa, Ambessa and Cait, Jayce and Viktor, Viktor and Singed, Ekko and Heimerdinger, Ekko and Jayce, Jinx and Sevika, Isha and Jinx, Viktor and Jinx, Caitlyn and Singed, Ambessa and Singed, Ambessa and Vi, Ekko and Powder, Cait and Jinx, Ekko and Jinx (they have a pivotal scene together): all of them challenge one or the other or each other at various points.
It's true that the characters spend large portions of the story isolated from one another. But that's neither good nor bad. The question is, what best serves the story? In season 2, a lot of the characters were brought to their lowest point, their worst, from which they had to then recover. It makes sense that reaching their lowest point would require some degree of isolation.
You list things that didn't happen, like Sevika challenging Vi for being an enforcer, or Sevika finding out that Jinx killed Silco. My question in return is: What function would that have served? Would it have added to the story? I don't see how those things would. Like there's no reason for Vi to care what Sevika thinks. Creating a rift between Sevika and Jinx would have run counter to what the story required. And Jinx already obviously feels intensely over killing Silco, Sevika being upset with her wouldn't have changed that.
I think it's really important for every complaint to consider: Why does this actually matter?
You say that the theme of the show changes from class struggle to external invasion.
Class struggle was never a main theme. It was the backdrop of the story. It's the scaffolding on which the story is hung. It's not a plot and it's not something being explored in its own right.
The main themes in Arcane are the duality of humanity, and breaking cycles. Which includes sub-themes like foregivenes, violence, monstrousness, and yes class differences. It's worth pointing out that these are all treated as topics for exploration, not as things to come to firm conclusions on.
I hesitate to use the term "class struggle" because based on comments by the creators, and the fact they forcus more on individual choices than on systemic oppression, I think it's pretty clear that the creators are quite liberal and don't have a proper concept of what class struggle is.
And class struggle doesn't go away because there's a war. In the real world, what we see is that class conflict is often interrupted by war, but it doesn't go away. And that's what happens in Arcane. Zaun and Piltover aren't reconciled, the problems don't disappear. The two sides just temporarily fight side-by-side. Based on the fact that Arcane is a prequel to League of Legends, I think it was easy to assume that the power balance between Piltover and Zaun was never going to change dramatically.
I also want to point out that the two cities coming together was also foreshadowed in Jayce's negotiation with Silco in season 1, not to mention foreshadowed by Powder's "friend across the river" song in the very first scene.
It's not evil robots, it's a hive mind, those things have different thematic implications. And idk what to tell you about that, it's a video game world with all sorts of shit going on, I don't see how this breaks the world-building.
I don't know why you're talking about new writers not knowing what to do. The creative leads were still the same people, having more writers in the writer's room doesn't change that. And I just checked: 6 out of 9 episodes were written by someone who wrote for season 1. Five were written by one or more of Alex Yee, Christian Linke or Amanda Overton.
But it does sound like you may have watched a criticism video that I actually just posted a reply to, here.
I honestly don't think anything important was skipped over. I've seen a number of suggestions across the fandom, but they're all just thing that would be kind of nice, not anything that would have made the story better. I think those complaints come from having expectations of what the story was going to be, and then when the story turned out to be different, not taking the time to actually understand the story that was being told.
Like Vi finding out that Ekko is alive. What would the point of that have been? Given that Vi's trajectory for show was to: 1. hit a low point; 2. from there, build a relationship with Jinx on a new foundation; 3. find a new place in the world for herself with Caitlyn. How would Ekko have helped with that? Likewise, how would Vi have helped Ekko on his journey?
I think for every criticism you have, you should ask: why is this an actual problem for the story?
So far the concrete examples of Arcane being rushed that I've seen are:
1) CaitVi being a rushed relationship (patently untrue).
2) Cait and Vi reconciling too quickly in s2 (based on a fundamental misunderstanding of the function of their relationship in the story and the direction their characters are headed in at the time. And also based on having no sense of priorities, like they're busy, and then as soon as they have down-time they do argue).
3) Developments with Sevika taking place off-screen (she's always been a supporting character why would you expect her to have an independent on-screen arc).
4) the crimes Caitlyn committed with Ambessa not being shown on-screen (they were shown. Her crime was sanctioning state violence against the undercity. That was very much shown).
Anything else?

the fucking whiplash btw when twelve announces they're 2000 years old. ten lived for about six years. eleven lived for more than 1000 years?
#unless they've just lost count or they're just making shit up#but I just??? eleven lived for longer than all the other doctors COMBINED????#doctor who#dw#the doctor#the twelfth doctor#the eleventh doctor#the tenth doctor#i have questions#the first one of which is: does this even make sense?#listen i knOW there's that truly terrible final episode in eleven's run where they stick around some random town for hundreds and hundreds#of years... and before THAT they had a few hundred down already#i have questions about the doctor and ageing specifically as it pertains to eleven and just being THAT old though#i guess there's a sliiightly bit more acceptance of the idea that so many people around the universe know that exact face#in a sort of *yoooo that's so old they're basically a god (even though they Are Not) kind of way*#but my first question is STILL: DOES THIS EVEN MAKE SENSE?#i KNOW canon is messy but does it???

#OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW#Im trying to gather my thoughts…. I have a head ache………………#im so embarassed i had to use the walk through to help me out towards the end…. I thought I got stronger since the last game#but Im gullible as fuck your honor#also my working memory isnt the best so even though I took notes on everyones train of thought in the trial#the changing theories and what we currently assume is true and isnt is really hard to keep track of!!!!!!!!!!#I thought I had the answer to one of the most important questions but I was wrong TWICE and I only had a little bit of health left#for the rest of the trial ;w;#it was also hard for me to understand godots motive since he would have no reason to stab Ami but I forgot that when spirit mediums#channel ppl their appearance changes to match the spirit.. so I guess it does make sense he didnt think of that when he was focused on#getting revenge against dahlia. damn#UGH I NEED TO PLAY THE FIRST GAME I feel like theres still so much background im missing#the DL-6 incident came up and I only know a few details abt what happened but it was nicely tied to the case#like edgeworths trauma around earthquakes and how that gave time for iris and dahlia to switch#it gives me a headache to think abt them swapping places and who was doing what though#but still really cool#im going to be thinking abt this for days#aa3 playthru#aa3 spoilers#ace attorney#aa#trials and tribulations#yapping

sometimes i think about sullivan and how his n iruma’s relationship progresses and what made him choose iruma. i mean it was probably something to do with delkira that made him pick iruma up but i also think about that comment he makes early on in the series, that the others in the 3 greats have grandkids and he doesnt and how hed love to have a grandkid. and how he sends iruma to babyls partly because thats what a proper caretaker is meant to do. and how at the beginning maybe hes playacting and thinking yes this is the boy i have brought over for unspecified reasons, My Grandson, and i am the Grandfather (yay!) but its only later on that The Grandson becomes Iruma Suzuki first and then Sullivan’s Grandson second. and then i get happy about it
#i think half of this has been cooked up in my head from that one offhand comment and also some common sense (i mean he still has some#affection or makes sure to show it at least but i dont know that its genuine . at least in the beginning. wouldnt it be strange if you love#a stranger immediately?)#(but then again the idea that he loves iruma immediately is also fun because i imagine itd be him projecting his affection for delkira onto#this kid and then later it becomes something real….)#but anyway the point is to say that i like that even if it wasnt real in the beginning he still tries hard to pretend and he does look out#for iruma#like. excellent behviour good sir you get an a* from me#ahh but i really really want a few chapters just to explore why the adoption happened in the first place like WHY DID HE AGREE#this is a question that bugs me forever WHAT IS IT ABOUT IRUMA#is it the same thing that makes him so charismatic ? is it why he radiates main character energy ?#i suppose we’ll get it when we get more information about delkira because i highkey think they are inextricably linked somehow#but ugghhhh can that chapter come sooner please thanks#m!ik#welcome to demon school iruma kun#yellow is blathering yet again#iruma suzuki#sullivan
