There is these two guys me and my roomie have been friends with for a little while, and they started coming in our room later than theyre allowed to. Especially one of them. And after a while it became obnoxiously clear he liked my roomie. And my roomie most of all just like played along. She doesnt seem too into it but she just kind plays along. And he is so down badddd. And i feel so bad for him because he is genuinely a great guy. (And so is she) and i dont think she is trying to be mean but it feels like she is kinda leading him on and he will get his heart broken and i feel sobad for him and i dont know what to do.

Also because now apparently they have like made out, and he said he loved her but like i dont know, and she just felt awkward and left. And i do not know what too think or do but i think she should not lead him on if she dont like him, but i dont think she idk. I feel bad for him

The horrors that took place at Starcourt Mall replayed in her head endlessly, her body limp on the floor of her bedroom on a cold Tuesday afternoon. Leaves flew about, tapping ever so delicately on her window. Her body jerked frequently, a glimmer of hope shooting through her that it was Billy, but she was met with disappointment each time.

Horrors from two weeks ago also replayed in her mind.

“Max,” she uttered softly upon the door swinging open, the little redheaded girl falling into her warm embrace. “Oh my God, Max.”

The two held each other, standing in the doorframe. Silence consumed them, yet so much was said. Tears pooled in Y/N’s eyes, her mouth beginning to tremble as she began to speak.

“I’m so happy you’re okay. I didn’t want to leave your side, or Billy’s, and I’m so sorry, Max-“

“Stop apologizing, Y/NN.”

Max tried to make light of the situation, a faint smile tugging at her lips. Y/N fell into her arms yet again, the two holding each other as they broke down, sobbing uncontrollably.

“I’ve been visiting her at the hospital, but it kills me to see her like that. I tried to help her, I really did.”

“I know,” Max assured, her eyes sincere.

Seeing Eleven in a hospital bed, lying lifeless. No one could stand to see her in such a condition, but Y/N’s priority was to protect her that night. Billy instructed her to watch over the young girl after she shared a compassionate moment with him, and she did. But when she saw that Billy was almost killed right before her eyes, she ran to cover him. It was a trick, alright. That was just what the Mind Flayer wanted — El all alone, defenseless. And so when Billy saw her running to him, abandoning El, he shouted her name, and at the same moment, El’s body was struck, sending her into an unconscious state.

The chaos slowly died down as they continued their fight, everyone running over to El once it was safe enough. Y/N lingered back with Billy, and albeit feeble, she attempted to wrap some of his injuries that gushed with blood. He said not a word, his body trembling, anger in his expression.

“Billy?”

“Get off of me.”

He shrugged her off his arm, storming away to assist El. Her entire body grew cold, and she didn’t realize she was losing blood too, until she felt a dull pulse near her ribcage. Her body was growing weaker by the second, but she nonetheless dragged her figure to the group. They all tended to one another, mainly keeping their focus on Eleven as they eventually signaled down an ambulance for her.

Y/N sat still next to Billy, feeling as if breathing or shifting wrong would set him off. It was almost as if he knew what she was thinking, though, finally uttering, “She showed me my mom.”

She remained silent, tugging a bit on the dull grey blanket that sat on her shoulders. It did nothing to keep her warm, but it was something, nonetheless.

“She showed me my mom. I hadn’t seen her in years, at least not the way El showed her to me,” he let out a cold chuckle. “Bitch left and I never saw her the same. Until tonight. And I remembered, and I wanted to thank El for showing me that, but I didn’t get to. No, I didn’t, and that’s all thanks to you.”

Her heart staggered, her breath hitching as tears welled in her eyes. It felt as if someone were pressing down on her chest with all their might, knocking the wind out of her lungs. “Billy, I didn’t me-“

“No, I know. If I hadn’t known you all this time, I wouldn’t. But…she almost died. Because of you,” he turned to look at her, his stare ice cold. He got up, walking away. He didn’t say anything else, his figure fading in the distance as Y/N was stuck in her position.

They were best friends before anything. They were in middle school when Billy moved to Hawkins. She was assigned the task of touring him around the school, and eventually she was tasked with tutoring him. Billy was freshly into his troublesomeness, making many horrible attempts to look up her skirt when she would guide him around the school. She would always keep a hand behind her, holding out for Billy. He was always too full of himself to hold her hand in public, but when they were at her house and she did the same thing, holding out her hand to lead him to her dining room, he didn’t hesitate one bit.

High school rolled around and their friendship wasn’t so innocent anymore. She went through all of middle school crushing on him, and he felt the same way, but neither made a move. She hadn’t visited his home once, only seeing the outside when her parents would drop him off at home after their tutoring sessions. He thought the coast was clear one day and he was sorely mistaken.

Neil was having a bad day at work. Nothing could have fixed his state of anger. So when he heard obnoxious laughter and saw another pair of shoes at the door, the kitchen a mess with no dinner ready, he was at his wits’ end. He quietly moved to the living room, gaining a small view of the two teens. Billy looked too happy for his liking. When he saw the way Billy’s eyes glimmered at you, he just had to make his presence known. He cleared his throat, startling the pair. Y/N chuckled a bit, but she stopped quickly when she saw Billy’s demeanor change.

“So, I come home, the house is a mess, better yet, the kitchen’s a mess, and there’s no dinner on the table. You’re here instead, goofing off with another one of your little sluts. What’s the meaning of this?”

She felt a knot growing in her throat, her cheeks heating up. “Sir, I’m s-“

“Don’t call her a slut.”

She didn’t know it, but that was the first time he was able to look him properly in the eyes and not back down from an argument. It escalated rather quickly; Neil grabbed him by the collar and busted his lip. Billy didn’t hurt him in return, opting to push him away. He made sure to grab Y/N and get her far away from the house. Eventually, they were in the woods, parked up in Billy’s car.

Her heart physically ached in her chest as she looked over his features. His lip was busted, his blood drying and starting to harden against his skin. She turned his face to her, rummaging through her bag and trying her best to clean him up with whatever she had in her bag. They remained silent as she dabbed a makeup wipe ever so gently along his skin, softly prying at the pellets of dry blood. He hissed occasionally, Y/N offering a small “sorry” as she continued to clean him. She blotted some of her strawberry-scented lip balm around the cut, hoping it would do something for his skin.

“How long has this been going on?”

The silence had to be broken at some point.

“Y/N-“

“How long?”

She persisted, tears welling in her eyes as Billy recalled Neil’s first outbursts toward him, not believing he went so long without saying a thing. She looked at him, eyebrows slightly furrowed and lips parted, “You don’t have to hide it, Billy. Not from me.”

He looked at her, his own icy blue orbs drowned in tears. Without thinking twice, he leaned over the center console, lips brushing hers before capturing them in a delicate smooch. She tensed momentarily and her body jerked backward. Her lips moved gently so as not to hurt him once she relaxed. The metallic taste of his blood seeped onto her tongue, strawberry ever so faintly as he slipped a hand behind her head, deepening the kiss.

“Bill-“

“I love you.”

In all their years of friendship, he’d said those three words all of three times — one night after he’d found her shitfaced at a party, crying over a guy she liked who ended up getting with someone else right in front of her face, another when she was at his side after a horrible car accident, tending to him at the hospital, and now. She felt the butterflies going wild in her stomach, and knowing how long she’d been suppressing her feelings for Billy, she redirected the phrase to him, allowing her lips to find his again. One thing led to another and they were in the backseat of his car, fogging up the windows. Soon enough, they laid there, blissfully, tracing their names and random shapes along the foggy surfaces.

“Look, princess, I don’t want to jeopardize what we have, okay?”

She slowly felt her heart being torn from her chest. She read it all wrong. It wasn’t love, it was pure lust. He was letting his dick talk as he’d done several times with plenty of girls before. Suddenly, she felt disgusted, pulling an item of clothing further up to cover her exposed skin. She remained silent a moment longer, a single tear falling as he used a finger to turn her face to his. “Princess?”

“Yeah,” she sniffled. “Yeah, Bill, I get it.”

But each encounter hereafter, whether they were drunk or high, ensued as such. He would kiss her, make her feel like she was floating. They would have sex. They would bask in bliss, hold each other for a moment or two. And then Billy would run the same line: “I don’t want to ruin our friendship.”

She couldn’t help her feelings. She felt what she felt for him, concealing it to the best of her ability. She tolerated sleeping with him if it meant it made him happy. She would've done anything to keep him happy. But it was only so long that she could conceal her feelings, allowing them to show when he boasted about his one-night stands or when she saw yet another girl clinging to him at a party.

She allowed them to show a lot more when everything went to shambles with Vecna, genuinely fearing for his life, and trying her best to aid him through that point in time – hence showing up at Neil's. She caught up with Max and the rest of the kids, all of them sitting with glum expressions on their faces. They were drained, but they were just worried about Eleven. No one blamed Y/N for what happened, but both she and Billy had it engraved into their minds that she was the sole cause.

"How're you holding up?" Dustin broke the deafening silence, eyeing Y/N.

Her hands were trembling, and her mouth was dry. She managed to speak properly, but her body felt as though it were about to shut down. She took a deep breath, "I'm hanging in there. I came here to see Bills, but I don't know if he wants to see me."

They all gave her sympathetic looks as she excused herself, making her way to Billy's room. The few steps she took felt elongated as if she had blocks of cement for feet. She knocked on his door, and the pit in her stomach grew tenfold, her throat starting to close up on her. She watched the doorknob turn, wanting to run and hide immediately. As soon as she saw Billy’s face, however, her manner softened. His piercing blue eyes met hers, matching hers that were bloodshot. She wanted to hug him immediately but he walked away from the door, leaving her standing there with tears in her eyes.

“What’re you doing here?”

His tone was cold.

“I wanted to see you,” she whispered, shutting the door behind her. The room was dark with a faint blue hue as the daylight shone through his curtains.

“What for?” he scoffed.

“I missed you, Bill. I-I can’t be at peace knowing you’re mad at me. I’m sorry. I didn’t me-”

Her voice broke, tears beginning to fall from her eyes. He sat on his bed, elbows resting on his knees as he stared at the ground.

“You didn’t mean for it to happen, I know. I know, I know, I know, Y/NN. You’ve said the same shit to me about fifty times already. I know,” he paused. “But that still doesn’t change the fact that it happened.”

It felt like a knife was being twisted even further into her heart.

“Are people not allowed to fuck up, Billy?”

It came out harsher than intended, but she was sick of feeling as though she had committed a crime. She knew she had messed up and that none of it had happened on purpose. If she could change all of what happened and turn all of it around, she would, but she literally could do nothing more. 

“She could have died, Y/N! So if you think that was some tiny fuck-up then you’re far beyond mistaken.”

“What part of that not being in my intentions are you not understanding, Billy? Why can’t you get it through your thick fucking skull that I didn’t try to get her killed!? I saw that your ass was about to die right in front of me! I’m so utterly and fucking sorry that I abandoned her and ran to you, Billy, because I was scared they would get you instead! I’m sorry!”

He stormed up to her, his pupils now blown.

“I’m a grown fuckin’ man, Y/N! So what if they got to me!? I can handle it! I don’t need you!”

“You make it so clear that you don’t need me, Billy, so fucking clear.”

She backed down, the two of them holding eye contact intensely and breathing heavily, the rest of the room so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

“Y’know what?” his eyebrows furrowed, anger still evident in his features. “It should’ve been you.”

And that was the final blow. The knife couldn’t be twisted anymore. It was lodged into her heart as far as it could reach.

He turned his back on her, striding back to his bed. She remained still, a breath managing to sound from her mouth. She spoke slowly, “I’m going to give you a chance to say that you didn’t mean that. If you say nothing, I promise you, William Hargrove, you will be sorry those words ever came out of your mouth and you will never hear from me again.”

She waited a moment, total silence consuming them aside from the faint murmurs of the kids in the living room. He shrugged, keeping his eyes fixed on the floor. She nodded, slowly backing her way to the door.

“Got it. I just want to say that I’ve loved you for as long as I’ve known you and you didn’t show me much of your shitty side as you did with everyone else, but you are a grade-A asshole, Hargrove. Have a nice life.”

With that, she sauntered back to the kids, bidding them farewell.

“I’m not sure if I’ll see you much around here anymore, but you guys are always welcome at my place. I love all of you so much.”

Dustin was the first to hug her, her tears gently falling on top of his head. Everyone else followed, Max kissing her cheek as she offered a look of sorrow.

It’d been about two weeks since then. Her boss knew all of what she was going through, so he didn’t question it when she showed up only three times within those two weeks. She spent most of her time locked up in her bedroom. She had a little cabin all to herself in the woods, Hopper and Joyce just a few miles down. They knew the deal as well, dropping off a meal ever so often. They offered comfort, but nothing satiated the ache in her chest.

On the days she mustered up the strength to fix herself and visit El at the hospital, she wished she would run into Billy. She was met with disappointment each time he didn’t show, but she shook it from her mind, putting a smile on her face for El’s sake. El was doing better, thank God, so she didn’t hesitate to ask for all the details on what had gone down between the pair. Y/N didn’t want to bombard her much, but when Billy visited her alone, he didn’t hesitate. He was miserable, losing his mind without his right hand. They’d done everything together all this time and a part of him was simply missing without her there. 

This was her third day in a row spent rotting away on her bedroom floor. She was so sure he would never show. He hadn’t even made any attempts at calling her, so why on Earth would he show up? All of her thoughts were silenced when she heard her window slam open. She got a glimpse of his disheveled blonde curls, frizzier than usual, puffy red lips complementing his eyes. 

“You moved the spare key.”

She stared at him, nothing coming to her mind.

“You moved the key, baby.”

“‘Baby’? You have the audacity to call me ‘baby’, Billy? After two weeks of not speaking to me, you come in through my bedroom window, confused as to why I moved the spare, and you call me ‘baby’? Billy, last time I checked, you were fully okay with losing me. What the hell is wrong with you?”

She stood up, anger brewing within her. She was happy to see his face after so long, but he was acting like nothing had happened.

“’M sorry, Y/NN. I’m an asshole and I fucked up, but I am so sorry,” she gave him a chance to get close. “I missed you, princess.”

Then she smelled it. He reeked of liquor.

“You’re drunk.”

“Princess-”

“Billy, get out.”

“Babe-”

“Get out, Billy!”

Soon, she was crying again. It seemed as if she didn’t know him at all anymore. He walked over to her trembling figure, allowing her to just fall apart in his arms.

“I was drinking, but ‘m not drunk, princess. I didn’t mean it. ‘M not just comin’ to my senses now that I drank. I've been missin’ you all this time.”

“Why didn’t you reach out to me sooner?” she sniffled.

“Because,” he paused, sighing. “Because I didn’t wanna look weak. Didn’t wanna make it look like I became a pussy.”

She was seething once again but she couldn’t yell anymore, gently pushing him off instead.

“You hurt my feelings and you were worried about looking like a pussy? Really? I thought I knew you so much better, Billy. I guess I was wrong.”

He looked like a sad puppy, his head hanging low. 

“Babe-”

“Shut up, Billy. Please just shut up. Please get out of my house and never speak to me again. Leave me alone. Please.”

Her tone was desperate. She loved this boy with every ounce of her being. He was engraved into every fiber of her. And to hear all of what he had to say was just disheartening. She moved to the door and he followed, taking hold of her wrist and turning her body to his.

“Please, Y/NN,” at this point, his face was dripping with tears. He fell to his knees, his arms instinctively making themselves at home around her hips. “Please forgive me, baby. Please! I will beg, do whatever the hell you want, if it means you’d forgive me and talk to me. I miss you so much! I can’t fucking live without you! ‘ve been a piece of shit to you for so long. You don’t deserve any of it and I really don’t deserve you, but if you give me the chance to make things right, I can’t promise I won’t fuck up, but I will try my best not to just for you.”

She took a breath, her mouth hanging open for a bit until she found the right words.

“You know I love you, right, Bill?”

He nodded, watching her every move.

“And you know that I’ve been in love with you?”

Silence.

His arms just tightened around her and his expression was as clear as day.

He knew. He knew all along. And so was he. But he stuck with his reasoning of not wanting to appear weak or seem like a pussy for actually loving someone. She was the only person he had a soft spot for. He didn’t show it very well, but he’d do things for her he’d never done for anyone else: he’d hold her hair back while she puked after a wild night of drinking, carrying her home and putting her to bed, making sure to tuck her in on those same wild nights. He didn’t do that for just anyone, a girl at that. It had to be his girl. It had to be his Y/N.

“Billy,” she started again, her voice softening. Her hands found his hair, moving to rest on his shoulders as her tears fell one by one. “I’ve been in love with you all this time, and you knew. You didn’t say anything because what? You’re scared of love? You don’t wanna show everyone that you’re a lovable person?”

The side of his face rested on her stomach. He couldn’t stand to see how much he was making her cry. A moment of silence passed, her hands finding his hair once again.

“‘M sorry,” was all he managed to get out at that moment. He looked up at once. “Please, baby, ‘m on my knees, beggin’ you to just gimme a chance. If you hate me and you really just want nothing t’ do with me, tell me and I’ll be out of your hair. But, just so you know, I will never be at peace with all I’ve done to you, princess, and I’ll make sure the dickhead that gets the pleasure of bein’ yours makes you feel like the most special girl in the world if it can’t be me.”

She’d never seen him like this, features and emotions so raw. She tried her best to silence the voice in the back of her mind that suggested he was bluffing. She held onto his shoulders, muttering “get up” as she braced herself for her following question.

“So, what does this mean, Billy?”

He took hold of her hips, pulling her body into his ever so delicately, like she were a piece of glass.

“Means I’m asking you to be my girl. Properly. I don’t wanna hear someone else call you theirs. I don’t want you in my bed or me in yours for a hookup just to leave the next morning and say we’re just friends. I don’t want to show you that I love you only when we’re high or drunk. I don’t. I want to wake up next to you every single morning. I want to hold you like this every single day after work. Wanna shout from the rooftops how much I love you and how lucky of a man I am to have you in my life and by my side. I wanna be the reason you smile every day. I want to be the shoulder you lean on when you don’t have the strength all on your own. I want all of it. I want all of you, princess. I’m all in, just for you, sweetheart.”

In that moment, she felt like a daft little girl, allowing a boy to sweet-talk her.

“How do I know you’re not bullshitting me?”

Her voice was barely above a whisper, her eyes avoiding his, showing that she was thinking of letting him back in but holding back due to her fears.

“I won’t hurt you, baby.” he took her hand and placed it on his chest, his heart drumming a mile a minute. “I promise, I won’t do anything stupid to hurt you, sweetheart. And I won’t do it simply because I love you.”

She finally looked into his eyes, and she didn’t have to search much as sincerity was written all over his expression. His eyes glimmered with hope, hope that she wouldn’t give up on him just yet.

“You promise?”

“I promise, princess.”

He waited for her to speak, watching as if he saw her thoughts unfolding in her mind.

“I forgive you, Billy, and…yeah, I will be yours.”

She took a leap of faith, her lips finding his as her arms entangled themselves around his neck. His wet eyelashes tickled her skin, their tears mixing into the kiss. In all the years she dreamt of being with Billy, she didn’t think they’d get together under circumstances like this. Nonetheless, it was perfect; both of their emotions and feelings out in the open, raw, unfiltered – like never before.

“I love you, Billy.”

“I love you, princess.”

You won't stop talking, and Dean isn't exactly complaining. You were going on about your current hyperfixation, Batman. Well, in your words “it's not just batman, it's the whole batfam. Bruce isn't even my favorite, he's not even in my top five. I lowkey care about batcow more than bruce.” Whatever that means. He of course is listening and trying his best to understand, but it got kinda confusing when you mentioned multiple robins.

You did this every couple of months. You would find a new piece of media and obsess over it until you got bored of it and found something else. It was cute, you could go on for hours about your favorite characters and plotlines. Dean loved listening cause you always got this look on your face when you went into yapping mode. You would light up and you'd have the biggest smile ever. Dean loved seeing you so happy. He would let you talk his ear off if you would be that excited.

You were currently sitting on the counter next to him while he was cooking breakfast. You’re dangling your feet and talking animatedly with your hands. “Everyone freaking hates on Damian like bro he's just a kid. And if you were raised being told you were the best around then it's not crazy to think that you're better than everyone.”

Dean nods his head in agreement, “yeah, but he's still kind of a booger”

I stop my movement with shock, “you don't know him like I do, ok? I have maternal instincts for damian. He can do no wrong in my eyes”

He looks over at you dumbfounded “maternal instincts?”

“Don't judge me” You defend

Dean moves the eggs from the pan onto a plate “i'm not judging, don't worry”

You hop off the counter and sit at the bar “Good. Damian isn't mean he's just misunderstood. He doesn't want to seem weak”

“Yeah I mean, with everything you told me, it sounds like he just doesn't want to be underestimated” He agrees while pushing your breakfast towards you

You pick up your fork and start digging in, “See, you get it” 

Dean watches as you eat the food and continue to ramble on about robin. He's happy that you've found things that make you so happy and that you can talk to him about them.

okay okay okay so i finally got to sit and watch the full ep (8x13) in its entirety with no distractions after watching it once split in half, and i have a few thoughts (nothing bad so don’t worry just a few notes i had written here and there while watching!!)

- while i like the fact that they gave a little focus to hen in this ep, i wish her feeling invisible would have stemmed more from something a little more realistic than people she’s known for so much of her life just seemingly forgetting her birthday out of nowhere- it felt odd that they’ve all known her and been family to her for years not remembering (although perhaps im just infusing my own philosophy on my friends’ birthdays where i intentionally set up reminders way ahead of time so i can plan something accordingly but i digress) it would have made more sense if they wanted this forgotten birthday plotline to center it more around ravi and showcase his struggles with trying to fit in with the group (also calling back to being called eddie in 8x11) and could serve as a way for him to really solidify his place as one of the mains giving him the flashy plot point of talking down archie on the bus- that being said, if they wanted the ep to be focused on hen (which i am so so so so so glad we got a henisode after so long) i feel like it should have been less about people forgetting her birthday, painting everyone else ss lowkey dicks, and more of playing on the fact thst she kinda has been pushed to the side narratively since ep 4/5 of s8 BUT i didn’t hate the plotline just thought it could have been reworked

- i already talked more at length in that 1 am ramble i went on about the set dressing of eddie’s el paso house, but i do love just how out of place eddie’s furniture looks in that house and not in a “he’s still settling in way” but genuinely in a “this stuff doesn’t belong here way” that really solidifies the run down house’s role of reflecting his relationship with his parents and texas as a whole- attempting to settle back into that dynamic but he’s a new person and he will never fit into the old dilapidated conventions he grew up in no matter how hard he tries- to me this felt a little bit more of a subtly effective move on the show rather than the blatant “oh the house is falling apart haha” funny bit in ep 12… not that that bit didn’t work for its purpose in that episode as a funny cutaway during the job interview but i feel like the symbolism of the furniture being so put of place, and also showing eddie trying to fix a cabinet while on facetime w buck- in essence “trying to fix his relationship w his family”- was a much more solid metaphorical statement of where eddie’s at in these episodes

- (this was something i wrote down the first time i watched it but i thought it was funny) does the show know texas? bc i don’t think the show knows texas…

- a single day chess tournament in a town 5 hours away with no intention of having the kids stay overnight is so funny to me they were really gonna make those kids ride a bus for 10 whole hours that day with a random chess tournament in between

- i miss the athena and hen bestieism from earlier seasons and im so glad we got it back for a second this ep

- again, i already spoke at length about my thoughts on eddie’s speech to his mother snd how i thought it was much more of a gut punch to her than him yelling at her so no notes there

- my one disappointment is the way they chise to have eddie say (paraphrasing) “i’m gonna start acting like [a dad]”… i know this can be read as eddie having never thought of himself as a good father, but i feel like his emotional journey in the episode was being framed as “no- i am a good dad, and i always have been” (which is why buck told him he needed to dad-up because the only time he hadn’t been was while chris was gone) and instead that line switched the message of the arc to “i need time start acting like a dad now” which isn’t true? because eddie’s entire character up to this point has been that he ONLY views himself as a dad, and we’ve had all these interviews and conversations detailing “he needs to learn who he is aside from being chris’s dad” and we haven’t seen any of that, and that line feels to me like they’re saying “nope- all he needs to be is a dad.” and… yes, of course being a dad is VERY important to him and should not be sacrificed, but i wish the writers had made the choice to just leave it at:

chris: you’ll be my dad again?

eddie: i’ve always been your dad

rather than tacking on the “now its time for me to act like one” because then that would tell the audience “okay, yes, he’s acknowledging that he’s christopher’s dad and he always has been, but he’s accepting that the time apart has at least started a journey to finding himself as a whole” but instead it kinda…. closed that door (im NOT saying that eddie’s self identity won’t be explored in some way down the line, i just feel like this was an odd writing choice that didn’t really match what the episode was trying to convey for eddie and chris’s relationship but it was written by taylor wong so i’m not expecting masterclass level writing in any way shape or form from her 💀)

anyway, as a whole i really did enjoy the episode- 12 and 13 (and to an extent 11 but i detest that episode on fundamentally different conditions) both really felt more in line with what i loved about earlier seasons of the show and fit the kind of episode formula that made me love the show initially so it was refreshing to see that after 8a was kind of a whole lot of nothing salad and then 8b started with DRAMA DRAMA DRAMA and is about to continue the DRAMA DRAMA DRAMA that i wish would be a bit more spread out than it has been this season and last. these two episodes have been a nice treat and i absolutely hate that i wasn’t able to watch them live because of various reasons but i still enjoyed them even after the fact going in with a baseline knowledge of what happened in both of them. (and also i was VERY pleasantly surprised w the writing of ep 12 considering it was written by two LS writers who don’t know these characters- somehow they had a better understanding of them than other certain writers who have written for the main show do after years of writing for them 💀 BUT I DIGRESS)

I have so many wonderful things to say about XO Kitty season 2. And I will say them. All my underlying complaints really stem back to a single issue, but I feel like right now I have to word-vomit the Problem because it's, like, tickling my brain.

I do not like the way queer characters, plotlines, and concepts were handled in XO Kitty season 2. At all.

To be clear - this show is not queerbaiting. It is about a bisexual girl (Kitty) who ends up with a boy who is a perfect match for her (Minho).

What does bother me is that after the Kitty/Yuri kiss and its fallout, Kitty's queerness is never addressed again. Not even in passing! Praveena declares she's no longer interested in her, and we never hear anything about girls or bisexuality surrounding Kitty again.

I also really do not appreciate the way that Yuri was treated. Yuri, a main character and a main love interest in season one, underwent some insane character assassination this season. All of her sharp personality traits were immediately gone, and she was made a very flat side character right off the bat. But the nail in the coffin was her cheating on Juliana with Kitty. What the fuck? Juliana was her every thought last season. She was miserable without her. She went to great lengths to talk to her and to get her back to KISS. But the second Juliana is back, and their relationship is generally good!!! ...She cheats on Juliana, her girlfriend of a year, with Kitty? And for what!? She gets completely sidelined after that! She and Kitty are hardly even friends anymore! So they broke Yuri and Juliana up for nothing, and ruined Yuri's character for nothing.

Also, it SUCKS that Yuri has no friends, no girlfriend, and now her family's being sued and she lost her money. The show just kept beating her down. It was lowkey ridiculous.

The only good thing I'll say about that kissing whole situation is that Kitty wasn't exclusive with Praveena. I don't really think Kitty did anything morally awful, and we narrowly avoided the cheating bisexual trope - even if I didn't love it.

I also want to talk about Juliana. She was one of my favorite characters in the season, and the way that she just totally dropped off the grid was mad. She and Yuri broke up, we saw her like three more times, and at the end she's in a weird pair the spares relationship with Praveena. It gave the vibes of "hey.... they're both lesbians.... they should know each other." Not great.

I also personally really did not like Q's new love interest. He was juvenile and a complete and utter asshole. He underwent very little character growth. He and Florian both suck and Q could do better, but he's been the quintessential GBF trope since day 1 and I guess can't branch out into his own character.

I have to wonder what the fuck the writers were thinking when they botched every queer storyline this badly.

My theory is that the writers saw Netflix cancel tons of top-performing queer shows (like my beloved Dead Boy Detectives) and panicked. Then they just removed all traces of queerness as much as they could to avoid cancelation.

But, whether or not that's true, it's very annoying and feels like a massive L for me as a bi woman.

The reason I think Alastor should be in the wrong(or at least mostly in the wrong) in his and Vox's falling out is that I don't think their relationship would be worth exploring as deeply as it sounds like it will be next season if Vox was the primary reason they started fighting, because it would do NOTHING for Alastor's arc.

Like- okay, Alastor's arc is very clearly going to be about learning that trusting people is Okay and not a sign of weakness, right? He's literally the only character in the show that is very clearly about the power of friendship who refuses to accept any sort of help, like even the VILLAINS are constantly hyping eachother up! If they fell apart because of something Vox did, and their relationship is going to be super important next season, wouldn't that not really do anything for Alastor's arc? Unless Vox pulling some weird shit is the ROOT CAUSE of Alastor's trust issues, but, given what we know about his past and how his ego seems to be the biggest contributor to said issues, I don't think it is. Alastor would HAVE to have contributed SIGNIFICANTLY to their falling out if their relationship is going to mean anything to his arc, because otherwise it just feels more like a weird aside then anything else? Like "oh yeah we used to be friends but then he did some weird shit and now we're not friends anymore". It adds nothing. There's nothing emotional for Alastor to confront in this scenario.

Which makes for a more interesting story, the relationship between the mc and someone from their past who, while they miss, isn't the kind of person they want to be around anymore so they don't really feel bad about cutting them off who ALSO doesn't pose any real Active Threat to the mc, or the mcs relationship with someone who they respected a lot but cut off because they felt the two of them were getting too close and we can't have THAT, now can we? It's the second one. It's the second one because the second one HAS HIGHER STAKES! The first one makes for a good one episode plotline, but for a season long arc? Takes where Vox is in the wrong actually make VOX a more interesting character to follow then Alastor, because that makes HIM the only one with an actual emotional stake in the conflict. But this isn't Vox's story. It's Alastor's story. Alastor is the main character. Which means, for their relationship to provide anything of value to the plot, Alastor needs to have emotional stakes in the situation too. The best villains are the ones that force your characters to grow and become better people(unless you're doing a silly little monster of the week type of show but THAT'S NOT WHAT HAZBIN IS-), and the only way Vox being the main antagonist next season is gonna cause any kind of growth is if Alastor is being forced to reconcile with his past.

Anyways uh, yeah that's it. I could do a tangent about how their relationship lowkey parallels Fizz & Blitzø(a comparison I made in this post but didn't actually go into depth on bcuz it wasn't relevant to the post beyond supporting my argument + didn't have much backing at the time), but I do NOT have the brain power to go in-depth comparing and contrasting that stuff rn, bcuz, despite the similarities, whatever the fuck Vox & Al have going on seems to be a LOT more Complicated and Sad then an accident and some dad-induced miscommunication. So I'm just gonna leave it at that :)

ok so excuse the oncoming rant about stranger things, but like... come ON. the show's been running for almost 10 years, and it gets to a point. personally, i feel like after season 3 it all just kinda went to shit. season 4 felt like wayyy high budget and netflix wanted to PROVE how much money they could spend on each episode like... it's giving high consumerism... not to mention how so many of the characters just.... changed? robin especially. she was my favorite in season 3 and had sooo much potential as this kinda outcast, but funny and snarky and genius girl who could improve steve as a person more (and she did) and add more relatability and realism to the plotline!!! and i was like yes ma'am i love this character so excited for st4!!! and then............... season 4 robin is just, like, a different person? still a good character but it felt like maybe a different writer started writing her lines and her plot. and i know a lot of her rambling and lowkey neurodivergent habits in season 4 were both for representation and for the fact that she felt more comfortable being out... but she's not out? steve is the ONLY person she came out to, and he didn't tell anyone, so why is she acting completely different, implied as her 'unmasked' personality, when in reality: in the 80s it was HARD to be comfortable being gay or a part of the community because of the lack of normalization?? idk i just MISS robin from s3 because why would telling anyone 'her big secret' change the fact that she saved steve and dustin's asses, speaks like 4 languages, and learned russian in a week? they just like erased her development 😩😩... anyways, yeah, i'm gonna watch season 5 if it ever fucking comes out, but i can't bring myself to be excited after how dissapointed i was with season 4. the characters just won't be the same, because it's passed from character development and into monetizing and 'diversifying' characters for more watches. netflix doesn't care about real representation, they care about people talking about their representation, and paying to see it. and it's no surprise that these ideals have made their way into stranger things :( (also wtf is the play like shut up release the season and be done)

TEA!!!!!!!!! i feel like robin has always been relatively comfortable in her skin, though her sarcasm was a deflection of her insecurities. she didn’t seem as frazzled (which good for her either way… my queen) and she was like. mischievous! i don’t totally mind the shift but it’s definitely (to me) a big juxtaposition to her demeanor in s3. and yeah i don’t think she would have such a personality change just bc steve knows she’s gay… idk… she’s still closeted and while her friendship with steve is very kindred spirit, platonic soulmate-esque, i don’t think meeting him would have changed her personality. she also seems MORE uncomfortable? though she is a closeted high schooler in the 80s with a crush. also i feel like they didn’t even flesh out steve and robin’s friendship!! ROBIN should have dived in after him. don’t piss me off….

i really think that they jumped the shark a bit and forgot about all of the characters, their development, the very point of them, because they wanted to make something epic and big with a giant budget. seasons 1 and 2 were so incredibly phenomenal. there was a story, but it wasn’t convoluted - and while i don’t mind the world building they’re doing, nor the lore, it’s sort of too much!! i miss demogorgz and demodogz… i miss the dynamic of the main 6. i think we lost something really special because their budget for bigger, and again, i think they lost track of the plot.

i didn’t really like s4 after my initial viewing, but then came to like it. then i watched it again and was like actually … maybe i don’t. i LOVE eddie, i love what steve, robin, nancy, and eddie were getting into, but i really couldn’t find myself giving a single shit about mike and el 😭 the split of the party was a bizarre move imo and i literally truly could not care less about el’s storyline SORRY. again just so needlessly (IN MY OPINION!!!) fleshed out and complicated in my opinion. i think perhaps they’re putting almost too much exposition into the plot? i just liked it more when there were so many questions that were unanswered. i liked not knowing where things came from. i enjoy the henry creel plotline but again, i just don’t feel like it’s necessary. the mind flayer was scary and mysterious enough i just … you know. and bringing back brennon and owen’s giving him access to el again is so fucked up. though there can definitely be arguments for that!

and don’t get me STARTED!!!! on how this show has been milked to death. they have given us nothing for s5. NOTHING!!!! i do not even care about it anymore. i just don’t. and like i ended up watching actually good television (the terror comes to mind, which i highly recommend) and it has made me realize i just do not care abt this show past s3. it lost its spark and its fun and we don’t even know when the fuck it’s coming out.

AND I DONT CAAAAAREEEEE ABOUT THIS STUPID PLAY. oh my god. the most unnecessary thing in the world. no one asked for this. it’s just the duffer bros jerking themselves off because they made a highly successful show and now will milk it for the rest of their careers because they peaked and will probably never have a hit like this again. also they’re zionists so fuck them!!

i have such a love-hate relationship with this show and i’ve grown so far from it which is really sad! stranger things got me back into fandom spaces for the first time in 8 years and it got me through the pandemic. i’ve made so many friends and expanded my writing (i also hadn’t written in years, and forgot how much i loved it). so it’s really sad to me how much it’s strayed, and how much i’ve strayed from it.

but as an aside, i’m so so happy that joe is successful with his music!! im honestly happy for any of the cast who has been making moves away from ST. sadie’s career is soaring too and she deserves it!! everyone who escaped the clutches of netflix i am happy for!!

Head 2 Head - seakeen and surfjava: deeply ambivalent to the actors and I've never seen them before, the plotline seems fine enough but not really my kind of thing? kind of a weird enemies to lovers I think

I hope people are capable of being normal about a low stakes show heart emoji. I personally think it's a chill watch but I'm not bouncing off walls excited. first is handsome though

I'm pretty happy with this one, because the actors are all actually young I'm pretty sure and they're all new so it's a nice start for them, very classic. My Magic Prophecy - jimmysea, teefranc: it's a doctor x psychic, and it feels like a vice versa but not really. the trailer was kind of boring in the sense of composition and scene choices and such. forced proximity trope, which I sometimes do not really like so this one is on thin ice. no idea who the side pairing are yay

A Dog and A Plane - taynew, marcpoon: banger cast!! I haven't seen taynew in anything yet I don't think? but I've heard good things? marc is my beloved, of course. the plot is incredibly interesting at first look, though the cheating thread kind of bothers me? whether it will win out over my enjoyment of the rest of the trailer is yet to be decided. judgement's still out on this one

So.. I finished Alchemy of Souls

Guys, the amount of tears I just shed in front of my entire family in the last episode of part 2 is crazy.

They were just sitting there like, you good? It's fiction as I'm sobbing my eyes out.

Anyway.

I have many thoughts. So many. And I lowkey want to make a separate post for each of them.

But for now I do want to leave some of my impressions about the finale: (spoilers ahead obviously)

I thought it was pretty well done. I expected to be a bit more shocked about the whole Jin Buyeon is Jin Seol-ran plotline but it honestly made sense to me and I feel like it was actually foreshadowed pretty well for the most part, even in season 1.

Also they definitely got me good with the deaths of Park Jin, Maidservant Kim, and Jin Hogyeong (if that's how you spell her name). Like that's when I started crying tbh. (I could care less about Mama Jin tbh, she sucks, but that deserves its own post). And I'm glad that them actually being alive didn't feel like a cop out to me. They established early on that Jin Seol-ran knew what would happen and used that to their advantage so it was believable and didn't feel like a Deus Ex Machina move for them to be saved. Well, maybe one of them should have died (cough–Mama Jin–cough). But it's fine.

I do feel like the last two episodes were kind of rushed though. I don't know if they had budgeting constraints or if Netflix didn't give them more than ten episodes, but I think that they should have had at least 12. Two more episodes would have allowed for more expansion on the climax and allowed them to up the drama more, which I think would have done well for the series over all, and would have been a better payoff.

I think the time could have been used well to flesh out some of the side characters arcs more. I feel like Danggu and Jin Choyeon were kind of pushed off to the side this season, and especially in the latter half, but I would have liked to see more of them and their relationships not only with each other but with Jang Uk and Naksu/Jin Buyeon.

For all intents and purposes, Naksu/Jin Buyeon lived as Jin Choyeon's sister for three years, and we can see that despite everything that happened three years prior, Choyeon did treat her as her sister even knowing the soul was Naksu's and cared about her. I think that could've and should've been expanded upon, her choosing to care about Naksu/Jin Buyeon or how that came to be. Also, after Naksu regained her memory AND found out Jin Mu had been for sure controlling her at the end of Part 1, I would have loved to see the conversation between her and Choyeon about what she did, an apology and an explanation that she would never have done that if she were sane of mind. What I said about Choyeon applies to Naksu as well because she lived three years as Choyeon's sister, and we can tell she cares about her, so I would have loved to see more of her feelings towards her, especially upon remembering all that had transpired in part 1.

When it comes to Danggu, I mean, he's one of Uk's best friends, and he was left out of the loop a lot when it came to anything Naksu-related. I would have liked him to find out or for Uk to tell him at some point and see how he makes peace with that. Because Danggu and Mudeok were friends in part 1 and he supported her (erroneously) in her supposed romance with Seo Yul. But then she killed his fiance's father and tried to attack him. I can't imagine the sense of betrayal he felt, but also finding out that it wasn't her fault and how he could come to terms with that would have been great to see. I also think his whole experience/trauma from part 1 was kind of glossed over. Like his main thing this season was his broken heart after Choyeon didn't end up marrying him, and I think that was making his feelings a bit too one-dimensional there. They do talk about how he feels slightly uncomfortable/doesn't know what to do with Jang Uk at the beginning of the show, but once Seo Yul comes back, that's kind of forgotten about and the three of them just start hanging out again no problem. I would've like to see a bit more about him struggling with becoming Leader of Songrim as well and how he adapted to that amidst his heartbreak for both his love and his friend who he doesn't even know how to act around anymore, and even towards Naksu/Mudeok who kind of ruined his future and that of his best friend but also being intuitive enough (because he is and he has one of the best hearts we've seen in the show) to realize that there's more to the story than her just going on a murder spree.

I've seen some talk about people saying they didn't like the actress for season 2 as much as season 1 (forgive me, I forgot their names), but I think both brought something good to the table.

Season 1 actress for Mudeok was really good. Her facial expressions were spot on and her chemistry with Lee Jaewook and the other cast members was really good. I think she definitely had great stage presence and made the show popular in the first place. I just don't agree that season 2 actress was worse.

I think season 2 actress definitely put in the work and embodied who Naksu/Jin Buyeon was for the majority of the series. There were times where she made expressions that perfectly resembled/echoed Naksu/Mudeok's that really got me like yes they are the same person even if she doesn't remember. She may have been cuter than we were used to with out sharp-tongued and emotion-resistant Mudeok, but I think Naksu needed that. As Mudeok and before then she didn't have the luxury to be more emotional and girly, it's only now in this body that she does, and I'm glad she had the opportunity to express that side of herself that had never seen the light of day.

We did get a glimpse of that side of her at the end of part 1 where she's playing around with makeup and what might make her look pretty, and it really spoke to all that she had missed out on and had to give up in order to survive. So yeah despite all the angst, I'm glad Naksu/Jin Buyeon had that opportunity through season 2 actress who played it really well while keeping in line with the essence of Naksu/Mudeok.

This whole thing about Naksu being the shadow to Jang Uk's light and if light exists then it needs a shadow broke my heart you guys, it was so perfect. And the fact that they were each other's light and shadow at different points but were also wholly necessary to each other in that was beautiful. I want to talk more about this in a separate post, so I'll table this metaphor for now.

Shout out to Crown Prince Go Won, a great character this whole season in terms of both comedic relief and massive character growth. So good.

Uk's arc was fantastic too but again want to save that for a full post.

Those are my out of order first thoughts about part 2, but I have SO MUCH MORE to discuss, so I will come back for sure. I just needed to scream to the world for a bit (virtually of course).

Question though for all of you more knowledgeable in the k-drama world: is there going to be a season 3?

okay so the asylum thing. i have Lore and im so pumped u asked so here is my rambling:

my idea, and this whole spiel is pretty heavily inspired by this royal au series i'm obsessed with by @gatesofember (with a sprinkling of setting inspo from this fic by @percyinpanties), is that each olympian/major god is a House. so like House Zeus, House Apollo, House Hades, etc. i just thought it was way cooler than kingdom lol.

nico has been fighting nonstop w his father since bianca died. just. constantly. notoriously. they do not get along. they argue about EVERYTHING.

one day, Prince Nico of Hades shows up at House Apollo, ass o'clock in the morning, barely clinging to his horse, exhausted, and claims asylum.

uproar. basically. like thats DRAMA.

of course apollo loves drama and also cannot refuse asylum without good reason, so he graciously accepts. some fun details about that:

nico is now, before a prince, an Asylum Seeker. by status, he is not royalty outside of his own House if he steps away from the role, which he lowkey has done by seeking asylum from his own House. he has very little say in anything now.

apollo, however, has granted him shelter in the royal wing of the House, granting him a royal suite of apartments as if he was a visiting diplomat/royal/House Hades representative. this does not, technically, change his official status, but it does make abundantly clear that apollo still considers him of royal status. aside from that, he's still a prince, and no one wants to make an enemy of a prince (since he can still easily return to his throne, essentially? like there are no laws stopping him from doing so. this whole situation is just Odd and Weird and Really Good Gossip), they were all gonna treat him like prince anyway. he has the fancy clothes and still wears his circlet and often sits in on apollo's fancy meetings and shit (apollo likes his nerve).

will could not give any less of a shit.

he is the only person in the entire House and probably beyond who not only does not give a shit, and does not give a shit to nico's face.

this is insane behaviour.

will is the house physician, right. so in term of respect, he has a lot of it, but he has no authority outside his own infirmary, really. he gets a lot more respect than his status calls for because he's prodigiously good at healing. like. people tease that he can raise the dead. he can't, but. you know. apollo is the House of Drama, really, so no surprises there.

will kinda holes himself up in the infirmary?? there are a few reasons for that. one, apollo is a very artistically inclined House, and will is not very artistically inclined, so he started working in the infirmary as a kid and basically stayed there lol. the court physician before him was actually apollo's oldest daughter, hygieia, whom will adored to a million pieces and who doted on him lol. (she got him a little physician's tunic when he was seven and he literally wore it until it was threads). anyways. he feels useful in the infirmary, and its also where he does all his studies, so he mostly stays in that area of the castle. two, he doesnt get boundaries very well. he also thinks hierarchy is deeply, deeply stupid. for his own safety his friends are like hey. maybe dont interact with visiting royals and diplomats and shit. because someone is going to stab you one day. (and will is like 'well i'll just fix myself then' and they're like 'will for the love of the gods. please.') plus the east wing of the castle (where the infirmary is) is rly well lit and beautiful and leads right to the gardens and the library, so will likes it there :)

this would usually be a great mix, right? nico, who has been treated very much as a prince his entire life and has had people either walking on eggshells around him or scared of him, who has never had anyone but his father and maybe his sister defy him in his life, chilling in the centre part of the castle with the rest of the more royal members, and will, mr Authority Who? Don't Tell Me What To Do, chilling out in the east. no need to interact with each other.

nico is a dumbass who got hurt on his way to House Apollo. and did not tell anyone bc thats embarrassing. so he collapses right after asking asylum, and is carried to will's infirmary, who waits with his foot tapping until nico wakes back up and tears into him 😭😭 calling him the biggest dumbass to ever cross these lands and getting quite creative with it, really, absolutely running his mouth, and as soon as nico recovers from being bewildered (does not take long) he is like you??? cannot fucking talk to me like that???? i am the prince of ghosts???? fucker??? who do you think you are talking to??? and will is like i brought you back into this world, you fucker, i will send your ass right back out of it if you dont sit down and shut up and write down these recovery instructions. and nico is like ???? meanwhile the nurses in the infirmery who know will's stubborn ass are GIGGLING. like they think hes gonna die but at least its funny.

everyone lowkey expects nico to tattle to apollo and get will thrown out or something.

nico does not. which is weird, because, like, maybe he usually would?? but will makes him so mad he cant even think straight. the second hes released from the infirmary he stomps to his new quarters, seething. he shows up in the infirmary next day with the full intent to start an argument. instead, will tries to put him to WORK. and then gets irritable when nico refuses and kicks him out.

just absolutely insane behaviour. if anyone talked to nico like that in his House theyd be arrested, if not excecuted. hell, if will says this shit in front of apollo he might still get arrested, because what. but nico keeps going back and continues to get humbled by will basically every day.

and, ho ho, what happens?? does he maybe begin to care about will?? no. of course not. will is a pain in his ass.

insert part two here, blah blah blah, nico very obviously does care about will and its embarrassing

he realises right after this that he cares about will. although theres still a layer of denial over it bc will is his fucking nemesis, a pain in his ass, and also a Whole Ass Guy, so.

will begrudgingly allows nico to drag him out of the infirmary on occasion.

he has to admit, that when nico isnt being a diva, he is.

kind of.

charming.

a little.

if he had a knife to his throat, he would admit this.

maybe.

in terms of falling in love, they fall in love FAST. after that barrier of "you're so fucking annoying" "IM annoying?!?!?!" "yes glad you agree" crumbles, they both go TUMBLING off that cliff bro. will takes a cannon to every single one of the bitchy walls nico put up after his sister died, leaving him heart wrenchingly lonely. he treats nico like a person. and nico treats will like an equal, not someone lesser, in fact he treats will like hes not a prince, not a king, but a god. he reveres him. will has never felt this worthy of anythign in his life.

obviously, though.

its vague ambigious royalty times.

their relationship is forbidden and very, very secret.

nico, as a royal, wouldnt face many consequences, but will...

the issue is that will is the most frustrated by the secrecy. nico has always known that he would have to love in secret, he grew up in that truth. will has never lied about anything in his entire life. the whole royal hierarchy makes no sense in any way and pisses him the hell off. he doesnt like having to be cautious about the way he touches nicos shoulder.

anyways, the game does acknowledge that both jesse and lisbeth are into MC ! but the way it's worded would make more sense if MC hasn't been pursuing him at all, like idk why my girl is so confused. i literally picked the "reveal that you've always fancied him" option before leaving the villa 😭

overall, we're at the point of the story where everything starts taking a complete nosedive. call it the casa curse, i guess. and to make matters worse, a bunch of the worst plotlines from previous seasons have been reused, this is certainly the season of all time 😃 but for real, the only upside to this volume is that we could spend a lot of time with lisbeth ❤️ (and for me that's pretty much the only positive thing about us not being a casa girl) also, caleb's such a sweetheart, he deserves the world ❤️
