When The Two Of You Go Public At An Awards Ceremony ~ BTS Reaction
Jin:
You hung back slightly as Jin’s interview continued, not quite sure of your boundaries. “Can you introduce us to your plus one?” He was asked suddenly.
“Of course,” Jin proudly smiled, looking back to you as he encouraged you to stand in line with him, “this is my partner, Y/N.”
The interviewer smiled across at you, “nice to meet you Y/N,” she spoke up, looking to Jin as she tried to make sure that you were feeling comfortable by his side.
“I’m a bit nervous, I’m a first timer tonight.”
“Y/N’s doing great,” Jin spoke up for you, “we felt now was the right time to start doing things together and start letting the fans see a little bit more of the two of you.”
The interviewer nodded back at you both, “is tonight’s red carpet the first time that the two of you have been seen in public in that case?”
“It is,” Jin responded, tightening his grip around you, “and it definitely won’t be the last either, I’m very proud to be here.”
“I’m sure your fans will be very proud to see the two of you too.”
Tumblr media
Yoongi:
Your heart had never raced so fast as you took your first steps along the carpet with Yoongi. “Feeling good?” He asked you, keeping his arm around your frame.
“I know people normally watch you at these sorts of events, but it feels weird knowing everyone’s watching me,” you replied.
Yoongi nodded understandingly back across at you, “just focus on me and I promise that you’ll be alright. Remember what I said to you, and I’ll show you the ropes.”
“How do you do this again and again Yoongi?”
“You get used to it,” he chuckled, “just like you’ll get used to it when you come to all of these events with me, I’d love to have you at every single one of these from now on.”
Your hand pressed gently against his chest, “one step at a time Yoongi,” he chuckled, “I don’t fancy being completely thrown in at the deep end just yet.”
“I’ve got you,” he reminded you once again, “nothing bad will happen to you tonight with me here, I’ll make sure of it.”
“I’m looking forward to getting to see a little more of your world.”
Tumblr media
Hoseok:
Your head shook as a whistle came from Jin as soon as you took your seat at the table, “are we not alone tonight?” He teased, looking between you and Hobi.
“Tonight’s the night for us,” Hobi declared, confidently resting his hand against your shoulder, “no more hiding for us.”
The boys all nodded in reply to Hobi. “We could always play a game and make people think that Y/N is dating all of us at some point through the night,” Jimin suggested.
“Drop hints with every one of us if you want.”
“No way,” Hobi very quickly declared, “there is only one person in this group that people will think that Y/N is dating, and that person will only be me, not any of you.”
Jungkook scoffed beside him, “you’re so boring,” he laughed, “why not have a bit of fun? Get our own back on all of the journalists who are rude to us.”
“He’s got a point,” you told Hobi, “it would be pretty funny to confuse all of them and leave them all puzzled at the end.”
“Maybe it would be funny, but I make all of the rules.”
Tumblr media
Namjoon:
Your eyes were fixated on Namjoon as he nervously awaited the announcement for who the winner was. “If we win, the camera will definitely be on the two of us.”
“That’s what we want though, right?” You asked him nervously, “a subtle way to finally let people know that we’re dating.”
Namjoon nodded back to you, taking your hand underneath the table. “Just in case we win, I want to make sure now Y/N that you’re absolutely sure about going public Y/N?”
“I’ve never been more sure of anything Joon.”
“…and the winner is, BTS!” The woman yelled from the top of the stage, feeling the spotlight come down on your table straight away as the boys all stood up together.
Namjoon kept your hand and pulled you towards him, pressing a kiss against your lips. “Congratulations,” you whispered as Namjoon pulled away.
“I think it’s too late to turn back now,” he laughed as the noise in the theatre got louder as soon as Namjoon kissed you.
“It’s a good job that I definitely want to change a thing.”
Tumblr media
Jimin:
Your smile was wide as you noticed Jimin moving through the crowd towards you. “Are you enjoying the night?” He asked, relieved to not have to hide from you for once.
“All of your fans up in the stands can see us together down here,” you laughed, fearing slightly the conversations they’d be having.
Jimin shrugged back at you, deciding to rest his hands against your shoulders. “Let them see the two of us together, I’m not going to pretend to be single tonight with you.”
“Doesn’t it feel weird to be like this in public?”
“I could definitely get used to it,” Jimin quickly acknowledged, “we’ve spent too long having to pretend as if we’re strangers at all of these award ceremonies Y/N.”
Your head nodded in agreement, “I feel like I can just relax rather than constantly worry that I might get spotted smiling a little too widely in your direction.”
“We’ll definitely give people something to talk about after the ceremony,” Jimin laughed, “everyone will be talking about us.”
“That still feels so surreal for me to believe, it’ll be us, not solo.”
Tumblr media
Taehyung:
Your eyes looked to Taehyung nervously as the two of you stopped in front of the cameras. “Are you alright?” He asked you, pulling you a little bit closer into his side.
“This is it,” you chuckled, already hearing several of the camera shutters go down as people got their first glimpses of you both together.
Taehyung had a wide smile on his face, ignoring what was going on. “Just focus on me and I promise that you’ll be alright, we can get through tonight together without a fuss.”
“We’ll be on the front pages everywhere tomorrow.”
“Good,” he replied bringing a laugh out of you. “I’m proud to stand here and take photos with you, I want the whole world to know that I’m dating you, that I’m happy.”
You turned towards the camera, mirroring the confidence that Taehyung had beside you. “How long do you reckon we’ll have to stand here for and smile at them.”
“I think they would have us here all night long to photograph,” he joked, “but we’ll just give them enough, leave them wanting more.”
“I like how your brain works, that’s the best way of thinking Tae.”
Tumblr media
Jungkook:
A hand slipping into yours made you jump, looking to your right nervously. “It’s just me,” Jungkook whispered as he felt you jump, forgetting that he was around.
“People are watching here,” you whispered across to him, noticing a few members of the press hidden around, “they’ll notice this.”
Jungkook nodded back in reply to you, “I thought we were going to start doing subtle things to see if people noticed the two of us tonight, unless you’ve changed your mind?”
“No, it’s just starting to feel a little bit more real.”
“If people don’t see us, we can still be a secret,” Jungkook assured you, “but if people see us and write an article, all we have to do is say that they’re right.”
You nodded quickly in agreement with him, “you could have at least warned me that you were about to come over here and take my hand, my heart is racing.”
“Sorry, I just couldn’t help but want to take you by surprise,” Jungkook admitted, “and it looks as if that plan worked on you as well.”
“I refuse to let you spend the whole night scaring me Jeon Jungkook.”

Don't Say No
I'm super excited about today's prompt because it's something that I think is really fun and I got inspiration for this from a pjo fic I read months ago and I can't remember the title so, uh, woops. Either way, I hope you guys like it!
Word Count: 2068 Read on AO3 Rowaelin Month Master list
Day 3 of Rowaelin Month Prompt: Secret Relationship
~~~~~
Nox was tired. Everything at work had become mundane, and there was nothing interesting ever happening anymore. People came into work, tired and complaining about how it was the start of yet another week, and they would chatter about their weekend and any plans for after work. All Nox desperately wanted was to not be mind-numbingly bored as he read through yet another manuscript.
Thankfully, this Monday turned out to be slightly different than all the other Mondays. Nox knew something was up when the low toned chatter turned high pitched and excited as people wandered about the floor where Ashryver Publishing was located, pointing to the open door that led to their boss’ office. The layout of the floor was fairly open to allow people to easily converse with one another and move about the area while the higher ranking members of the company had closed offices, but Aelin tended to leave her door open to allow people to come in and speak with her.
Nox was fairly friendly with Aelin, and it was because of her that he’d gotten the job as a publisher reader when he couldn’t find a job, so he was understandably confused when there was nothing different about her when she walked out of her office. Her blonde hair was out as it normally was, and her makeup was done perfectly as usual. Nox’s eyes scanned over her as he tried to figure out what people were so huffy about this particular Monday until his eyes landed on the folder she was holding in her left hand.
“Holy shit, you’re engaged?!” he blurted out, seeing that diamond glinting off her left hand’s ring finger. Aelin looked down at her hand as though she were seeing it for the first time before rolling her eyes at him.
“Yes, Nox,” she responded with a small smile that was almost teasing. “I am.”
“I didn’t even know you were dating anyone,” he answered, leaning his elbows against his desk.
“Well, it wasn’t exactly something to publicize at work. I was dating someone, and now my boyfriend is my fiancee,” Aelin answered. Her eyes glanced about the room before she sighed. “Alright, everyone has two minutes to ask me questions.”
It was like a pack of hyenas had been given their first meal in days with the way the questions were thrown at Aelin, but she answered each one quickly and with her usual dose of sarcasm that made Nox smile.
“Have we met him?”
“Maybe, maybe not, and that is a serious answer. I don’t know if you’ve ever run into him on the sidewalk or in a restaurant or bar.”
“Is he good looking?”
“Yes, I have standards.”
The two minutes seemed to fly by with the way people barely got any information about her fiance, and Aelin looked way too pleased with herself that Nox couldn’t help himself. When she had dismissed everyone after giving people work, he made his way over to her office.
“So,” he started, leaning against the doorframe, “the big bad CEO of a publishing company has gotten herself someone who can deal with her.”
“If you’re trying to fish for information, you’re going to have to try much harder,” Aelin responded, a mischievous glint in her eyes that he’d seen way too many times.
“It’s okay,” he answered instead, “I won’t pry. I’m just happy for you, Aelin.” That brought out a genuine smile on her face before a ping on her desktop drew her attention from him for a brief moment.
“Ah, it’s actually good you’re here! We have a temporary hire coming in for the next month, or so, while we try to find someone else who can help you read incoming manuscripts. Let me just go get him.”
Nox chose that moment to sit down in one of the two chairs in front of her desk while Aelin stood up to grab her ID off her desk and walked out of the office. Nox waited for a few minutes, taking in the decorations of her office, including the small mementos she had scattered everywhere. The office had only been hers for two years, but it seemed as though she’d been living in that office for years with the way she had personalized it.
The company wasn’t an insanely big publishing house, but they had quite a few popular authors with best-selling books under their belt, and it was the intimacy of the employees within the company that drew aspiring authors and people passionate about books to it. Part of it had to do with the fact that it was a family business, Aelin’s mother owning it before she did, but part of it had to do with how much Aelin loved what she did. The photo of her parents, cousin, and sister-in-law alongside a photo taken at one of the staff dinners two years back was enough proof of how much she loved her work family as much as she loved her blood family.
The sound of Aelin’s heels and the sudden lack of chatter indicated to Nox that she was back with the new hire, who must be definitely impressive enough that his entry topped Aelin’s engagement news.
“Okay, Nox, I’m pretty sure I don’t have to introduce you two, but Nox Owen, meet Rowan Whitethorn, our new temporary hire.” Nox turned around to find himself looking at a man that he worked with for nearly a year before he left the company two years ago. Rowan was a tall man with platinum silver hair and a handsome face, even from Nox's perspective. The tattoos swirling down his arm definitely also helped with his popularity amongst women.
When Nox made eye contact with Rowan, the man smiled, and Nox nodded back in greeting.
“Isn’t that technically rehiring someone?” Nox asked, looking at Aelin and raising an eyebrow.
“That’s what I said when she offered me the position last week,” Rowan responded, sitting down in the seat next to Nox while Aelin took her seat across from them.
“It’s temporary!” she protested. Nox sent her a look that he knew she’d be able to read perfectly for that doesn’t matter, and with the way she groaned, he was sure that Rowan might’ve sent her the same look.
“Ugh, both of you get out of my face. Rowan knows what he’s doing so I doubt you need to do anything, Nox, but just give him a new manuscript that came in,” she grumbled, waving them off and going back to her computer.
Nox stifled a laugh as he got up.
“Hey, is it just me or did she get a lot hotter over the last two years?” Rowan asked quietly, and Nox had to stop himself from tripping and falling on his face.
“Man, she’s engaged. Like very recently too,” Nox responded just as quietly.
“Oh,” he answered, his eyes falling to the ground before snapping back up to Nox’s face, “well, if it’s recent then I don’t really mind.”
“Dude! That’s not okay!”
“Harmless flirting never hurt anyone,” Rowan protested as they sat down in their seats. Ever since the last publisher’s reader quit, that seat had been empty, and luckily enough for Rowan, that was his seat when he still worked at Ashryver Publishing.
“It will hurt if you break up her engagement.”
“If it breaks her engagement because I’m flirting with her, then she was never meant to be with that guy.”
“Oh my god,” Nox responded, turning back to his work.
“Hey, don’t worry,” Rowan spoke, and Nox reluctantly set his gaze upon the man, “It’s really not that big of a deal.”
Nox disagreed, but he did his part, so Nox simply shrugged before getting back to work. Hopefully with enough refusal from Aelin’s side, Rowan would get a hint and quit it.
*****
Rowan did not get a hint and quit.
In fact, as the week passed and so did the following week, he only grew bolder in the smiles he would send Aelin, in the side comments, the inside jokes (since when did they even have those?), and Nox was getting frustrated.
“Dude,” he hissed as he pulled Rowan aside before they stepped into the restaurant that they were going to have a staff dinner at, “seriously, quit it. I don’t want you breaking Aelin’s relationship just because you find her pretty.”
“She’s more than just pretty, Nox,” Rowan responded, more serious than Nox had expected him to be.
“Yeah, well, then you know that she’s a loyal person. Don’t make her break that.” With the way Rowan had nodded, Nox figured that he had finally, finally gotten through to Rowan.
Unfortunately, throughout the entire dinner, Aelin and Rowan were sitting next to each other laughing, leaning into each other. He couldn’t believe that Aelin was actually falling for Rowan’s bullshit. It wasn’t even like he was flirting outwardly, either. It was the small things that he was noticing while watching the two discreetly. Rowan would give her a napkin when she needed it, pass her something before she even asked, simply knowing that she wanted it when her eyes had drifted over to it. It was insane how attentive the man was, and it wasn’t fair that the subtle flirting was actually working.
Nox couldn’t even say anything in front of everyone, lest he risk bringing...whatever that was out into the public where he was pretty sure Aelin didn’t want it to be. He was contemplating whether or not he should talk to Aelin about the whole situation with Rowan, and he was doing just that as he leaned against his car, waiting for her to step out of the restaurant. He’d left along with the others so as to not make things suspicious, but he did notice that Rowan hadn’t left the restaurant either.
Nox was just about ready to leave when he heard Rowan’s voice ringing through the parking lot. “Look, maybe we could just tell them.”
“No, it’s way too risky. The whole reason why we stopped going out in public together was so that we could get all the other stuff settled first,” Aelin responded. Nox was definitely intruding on a private conversation, but also, he was incredibly curious about what was happening.
“They’re all about to lose their minds with the way they’re trying to figure out what’s going on between us.”
“That’s because they’re not blind, Rowan,” she laughed as their voices got closer. “I don’t really know what I would say to them, anyway,” she finished just as they were in his line of sight — holding hands.
Nox’s brain stopped working right then because, holy shit, his boss was cheating on her fiancee with her employee.
“Nox? What are you still doing here?” Aelin asked, catching sight of him.
“I, uh, wanted to talk to you...but apparently you...don’t care about your engagement.”
“What?” she asked, clearly confused. Her eyes drifted to Rowan who simply shrugged with a teasing smile.
“You’re cheating on your fiance with Rowan!”
A snort escaped Rowan, and that was the moment where Nox could see understanding shine in her eyes. She turned to Rowan before elbowing him in the ribs, and then turned to look at Nox. “This idiot is my fiance.”
Nox blinked once, twice, trying to comprehend the words that had come out of her mouth. “This man? Your boyfriend?”
“Fiancee,” Rowan corrected.
“Shut up, man. You had me thinking she was going to cheat on you! With you!”
“Not going to lie, it was really funny, though. You were freaking out for the last two weeks.”
“That’s just cruel, dude.”
*****
Despite being incredibly salty about the entire situation, Nox did have to admit that it was hilarious seeing his co-workers’ reactions to the wedding invitations that clearly started that Aelin Ashryver Galathynius, their dear boss, was marrying Ashryver Publishing’s ex-employee (now known as the new literature professor at University of Doranelle) Rowan Whitethorn.
Never had he seen more outrage at the fact that the two had hidden their relationship from the entire company for so long, and honestly, Nox was surprised they had managed to hide the relationship with the way the two couldn’t go longer than five minutes without some form of physical contact.
It was sickeningly cute, and he couldn’t help but think that Mondays weren’t so mundane, after all.
Hello! I know this may not be your thing but I decided to give it a shot, if not no biggy!
I was wondering if you would be interested in writing Gojo and/or Sakuna with an asexual lover? (One that doesnt feel sexual attraction but doesnt mind kissing and cuddling etc and loves physical affection but nothing beyond that?) And like, how a relationship with that kind of person would come to be?
Because Sakuna and Gojo both give off *he totally fucks* vibes.
So how they ended up with an asexual lover would be interesting, maybe the MC rejects their advances because fear of being hated for being Ase? Because they know that the other person definitely fucks.
How would their relationship work? How would the guy react/comfort the MC.
(Maybe it ends with a epilogue with no sex(as in penetration and blowjobs to be exact but mc later in a relationship would be willing to do things like handjobs and other hands on/Using toys to pleasure their partner because they cant in that way) but lots of passionate makeout sessions/kissing/sucking and worshiping the mc's body? Especially the collar bone)
If you arent into it that's cool! I totally get it!
This is pretty self indulgent after all ahahaha it's hard being an asexual in fandoms lmao.
hi my love!! okay to start off, i’m really honored you sent in this request to me. idk just the fact that you’re trusting me with it is really sweet hehe. i’m fairly knowledgable about sexuality but i don’t like to write about things i’m not 100% sure about because i don’t wanna risk doing anything wrong or accidentally offending you! but!! thank you for going into detail with the request, and i hope this is what you were looking for, and that i didn’t do any mistakes <3
i wrote headcanons so i can go into detail and write for both!!
some nsfw under the cut, my loves! <3
Tumblr media
ryomen sukuna
i’d say, to begin with, it would take a small while for sukuna to even be accepting of his own feelings towards you. nothing having to do with your sexuality, just you in general, specifically that you’re human and so different from him. i don’t think sex ever crosses his mind, at least at the start, because he’s too busy being really angry over the way he can’t seem to control his reactions to every little thing you do. so he himself won’t actively work at starting a relationship with you.
but he will realize, over time, that you’re not doing anything either, even though he’s been noticing that you’re not pushing him or his advances away. like any act of protectiveness that involves him physically touching you intimately, you don’t reject, and you’re always ready to retort at any quip he had. he could tell that these feelings he had for you were mutual, he was just so confused as to why you weren’t doing anything about it.
sukuna’s a thousand year old cursed spirit. he does not know shit about sexuality. i think the way he’d look at it is fuck who you want and fuck who you like. i feel like nicki minaj’s said that before, has she? he doesn’t like thinking too much about it, you know?
his confession would probably be a kiss because words? he doesn’t know them. when he feels you return the kiss he’s, deep down, elated, really, and this is simply because of his naturally sexual personality, he starts hinting at more, until you stop him. he’s really confused because you just kissed him back? you’ve been kissing him for so long why do you want to stop now? he can see the fear steadily growing in your eyes and he’s even more confused now he’s just. humans are so weird.
when you cautiously tell him, “i don’t want to go further than this. is that okay?” you look like you’re waiting for the world to erupt in your face. he just frowns and shrugs like, “yeah but that’s not the point. do you not want me?”
it takes about an hour and a half for sukuna to properly process what you’re saying. at first he’s so thrown off by it, not by you! he just can’t process the fact that someone doesn’t feel any sexual attraction towards someone or doesn’t crave sex at all. it’s not that he’s rude about it, it’s just a really foreign concept to him, you know? when you add that it’s just sex, and you’re okay with a lot of other things, the gears in his brain finally start working again and he just goes.
*shrugs* ok.
literally lmao. like i said earlier, sukuna doesn’t give a shit like whatever do what you want.
because of the rush of emotions he’s feeling towards you, and the fact that this in itself, a relationship, and a relationship with a human too, he doesn’t really focus on the fact that he might want more from you. he’s easily satisfied with a lengthy make out session, and he admits it to you every time he sees you get a little anxious or unsure of yourself.
however, his needs do grow with your relationship. it’s kind of clumsy, your transition into a proper long term relationship, especially with sukuna, but you two make it work.
you agree to try different ways to pleasure him, even if he kinda rushes through them because he’s generally just excited to have your hands on him. at first he’s content with anything you’re offering, but it makes him feel kinda useless when you won’t let him touch you and you have to remind him that your needs are different than his and that you’re sated differently.
i see sukuna as a curious and experimental guy, so he would definitely let you use toys on him. nothing too extreme, because he still needs that sense of control, but you do use some toys like a fleshlight or a vibrator to rile him up. he likes using your hand too, because it’s always so soft against him and it feels a hundred times better than any toy. he learns not to overstep any boundaries though, and not to do anything that might make you uncomfortable even if it takes him a little longer. like i said, the whole idea is just different to him, so it takes him a while to understand, and he’s still learning as he goes!
he loves your make out sessions, especially after you establish your boundaries and your limits and what you’re willing to do for him. he absolutely adores leaving your skin a sky of blue, pink and purple it sends chills down his spine marking you like that. he’s always touching you all over, and just loves to grab and knead at your skin.
in the proper long term, he doesn’t mind it at all tbh. the two of you develop a system, and he’s okay with it. the same way you would never cross his boundaries and force him to do anything he doesn’t want, he’d do for you too! it really never truly mattered, and it truly never will.
gojō satoru
different from sukuna, i think gojō would definitely be knowledgable about things like this. idk he just seems like the kind of guy that’s innately so aware of everything around him, and can read people exceptionally well.
he probably picked up on the fact that you weren’t comfortable with sex, or just didn’t experince sexual attraction, on his own, but never really brought it up because it was never his place. but the same way he picks up on that, he picks up on your obvious crush on him. he pays both details no specific attention until he starts to realize his own feelings for you, and begins on his subtle advances.
he tried to make his advances as sfw as possible, you know? just in case his suspicions were confirmed to be true. he was just extra flirty, sometimes touchy but never in an inappropriate way. very subtilely like always having your shoulders or knees touching or dusting of your jacket or feeding you a piece of his food. cute little things like that.
he gets super worried when he notices you start to distance yourself from him, because he can’t imagine what he might’ve did to push you away. he overthinks a little, worried that he overstepped his boundaries or made you uncomfortable in any way, but he isn’t afraid to approach you about it, to make sure he doesn’t repeat his mistakes, especially with someone like you, who he’s slowly growing more and more infatuated by.
when you admit to him you’re asexual, he realizes he was right, but then he’s like, “and? did i do something?” and now it’s your turn to be confused because here you were worried about rejection but here he was worried about you?
this specific incident is what makes you let loose and finally just freely admit your feelings for him. he’s ecstatic about it, seriously! all that’s on his mind is that he gets to go on a date with someone he really likes. sex is the last thing on his mind, and yeah, you’ll eventually have to talk about it, but not for now. it’s for later, when things get a little more serious.
they do get serious, to both your delights, but the dreaded moment is approaching you. gojō definitely sits you down and says, “we’re only having this talk so i know never to do anything outside of your limits. everything about this relationship is 50/50, and i want to know ways to make you feel good, too.”
please sir your hand in marriage.
i definitely believe gojō’s a kinky guy, and is more than willing to try out literally any sex toy you pull at him. genuinely, he’ll try anything you wanna try. if you ever offer a handjob, he’ll ask a million times over if you’re sure. usually, he likes to just do it himself, but have you there next to him. he won’t touch you, but your hands will be in his hair, and you’ll be kissing his neck, or just murmuring how much you love him in his ear, just spurring him on. he knows the last thing on your mind is anything sexual, but there’s just something about being under your watchful, almost bored gaze as he fucks himself.
anyways before i get too into it lmfao, he loves kissing you. loves loves loves it. not even full blown make out sessions, just gentle, serene kissing. he can kiss you for hours.
he is also incredible at body worship and praise. paints your pretty collarbone pink and purple, whispers about how you’re perfect for him, describes all your features to you like poetry. he’s an incredible lover, really. nothing can make him fall out of love with you, absolutely nothing.
The "Cave of Two Lovers" foreshadows the Zutara interactions in "Crossroads of Destiny"
[And maybe after that too; (yeah this part will be purely based on speculation)]
(See also: A meta that everybody has already written but I haven't because I was living under a rock and watched Avatar very recently)
Like seriously, it is so obvious? I see people try to interpret "The Legend Of Oma and Shu" in so many other ways; like yeah, you're free to interpret it however you want but— most people try to make sense of it while thinking that the tale is just a random occurrence? But it's not.
And here's why:
(I'm so sorry, I tried to add the "keep reading" link here because this gets kinda long but it just won't work) (Also click on the pictures if you want better resolution).
The tale of Oma and Shu is about two lovers who belonged to villages that were at war against each other. To continue meeting each other, they learnt earthbending to create caves in the mountain that divides the two villages. But one day Shu didn't come to the caves. He'd died in the war. So Oma unleashed a terrifying display of her power. And then when people were willing to listen to her, she called off the war and strived for peace between both the villages. As a result the city of Omashu was created— as a monument in remembrance of their love.
So in comparison:
1. Two people belonging to the opposite sides of the war
Tumblr media
(Other than the 100 year old war that has been going on, Zuko and Katara are involved in a very fundamental conflict: Capture the Avatar Vs. Protect the Avatar.)
2. With the same colour scheme:
Tumblr media
3. Share intimate moments in a cave lit by green crystals:
Tumblr media
A popular argument for this comparison is that; Oma and Shu had a positive impressions of each other when they first met. Unlike Zuko and Katara where Katara's first impression of Zuko was pretty negative because he invaded her village.
Zuko and Katara's first proper conversation happens in "Crossroads of Destiny" i.e.; the scene I'm talking about here. After this interaction that they have, I think it's safe to say that they did have positive impressions of each other. (Until Zuko made the wrong choice.)
Other than that, about the colour scheme being a coincidence: Here and here are posts by @marsreds about how the colours are definitely not a coincidence.
But seriously guys? Oma and Shu were the FIRST EARTHBENDERS and yet, instead of greens and yellows they were designed with RED and BLUE?!? (I'll take about Oma's green dress below.)
And on that note, why were Zuko and Katara the only ones who were thrown into the catacombs when everybody else was being held at the dungeons? The dungeons wouldn't have been easy to escape, neither for Zuko nor for Katara.
It's because Zuko and Katara were meant to share an intimate moment in a cave that was supposed to jog our visual memory to remind us of the caves built by Oma and Shu.
(Seriously though, I wasn't really paying attention during CoTL and thought that the Omashu legend was just put in to consume screen time, so I missed the red/blue thing. But then I watched CoD and saw the catacombs and I was like: "Isn't this like that cave made by the lovers?" And then I proceeded to have an oh shit moment because, I knew that Zutara was not canon so I never even considered the possibility of the narrative hinting at anything between them but then this happened. I mean, it's pretty darn obvious).
The colour of the crystals being the same in both caves is no coincidence either— if they just wanted two random caves with crystals, then they could've used a different colour because crystals of different colours exist:
Tumblr media
Moving on,
The Visual Cues:
According to the colour coding Zuko = Oma (red) and Katara = Shu (blue).
So,
EXHIBIT A:
Tumblr media
I feel like this one speaks for itself.
(I personally think that in this parallel Oma is in red because Katara at this point still sees Zuko as the face of the Fire Nation.)
EXHIBIT B:
Tumblr media
This sequence of frames show Oma (dressed in green, like Zuko was in the catacombs) and Shu (dressed in his usual blue), standing on neutral territory and reaching out to each other and then being torn apart by the war.
Pretty much like:
Tumblr media
The first time they are in each other's presence without the cause of their conflict (i.e. the Avatar), Zuko and Katara reach out to each other empathetically and attain bone deep understanding of each other within a matter of minutes. This whole encounter is in Ba Sing Se, which counts for the neutral territory because it hadn't been completely taken over by Fire Nation at that point.
And honestly? The raw vulnerability and intimacy of this scene and the high emotional energy of their powerful dynamic is just— wow. (I put off my binging spree for a whole day because I didn't have the heart to see Zutara not become canon after all of this.)
And soon after, Zuko and Katara face each other in battle, their tentative friendship torn apart, as they fight from their respective sides of the war.
EXHIBIT C:
Tumblr media
Whenever Oma and Shu appear in the same frame during the visualization of the legend, Oma is always on the left half of the frame and Shu is on the right.
Similarly, throughout all their interactions in the Catacombs, whenever the frame exclusively includes Zuko and Katara, Zuko (like Oma) is on the left half of the frame and Katara (like Shu) is on the right.
The parallels (or foils rather):
#1
Tumblr media
In CoTL, we see Song who is a healer (cures Iroh of his poisoning). She mentions that she hasn't seen her father since a Fire Nation raid took place in her village. Zuko empathises with her and says that he too hasn't seen his father in a long while. But then he refuses to say anything else about it.
Later Song tries to reach out to Zuko and tries to touch his scar— which Zuko prevents her from. She shows Zuko her own scars to show that she understood him.
And yet, Zuko doesn't open up to her.
After a while of life-changing and eye-opening experiences, in CoD, when Katara has her meltdown and cries while saying that her mother was snatched away from her by the Fire Nation; Zuko sees an opening to offer an olive branch and he takes it, he empathises with her and tells her that how his mother was snatched away by the Fire Nation as well.
Then Zuko opens up to Katara in a show of complete vulnerability. He openly talks about his scar and what he feels about it. In response, Katara offers to heal his scar and then Zuko lets her touch his scar.
It was nothing but a deliberate choice to make Song slightly parallel Katara (a healer, lost a parent because of the war) and then making Zuko not open up to her and not let her touch the scar, only for Katara to be the one he opened up to and allowed to touch the scar.
#2
Tumblr media
After being trapped with Aang in the cave in CoTL and sharing an intimate moment with him, as soon as they find their way out, Katara runs straight ahead without looking back.
But after her time with Zuko, trapped in the Catacombs in CoD, while leaving she turns back to look at Zuko.
Judging by the amount of time the animation puts into showing us Aang's disappointment at Katara running off and into making it clear that Katara did look back at Zuko and that Zuko looked right back at her, to me, it feels like the choice to show this was pretty deliberate.
(Turning back to look at a person while leaving is a romantic trope that has been overused to death? Or is it just bollywood?)
Also I wouldn't have paid this much attention to this small detail if not for the fact that just a hint of the Omashu legend theme is played here?
No, I swear I'm not making it up.
The Omashu legend theme is used in CoD:
The Omashu legend theme is largely dominated by the music of a stringed instrument (forgive me, I don't know what it's called) alongwith a steady melody playing in the background.
In CoD, when Katara and Zuko start conversing for real, (i.e.; when Katara says: "I'm sorry I yelled at you.") what sounds like a variation of the background melody in the Omashu legend theme, starts its subtle ascent as the background score, but sans the music of the stringed instrument.
It is when Katara says: "Maybe you could be free of it." [About Zuko's scar], when then first hint of the stringed instrument is heard. It is only a single note of the strings but it's there. And this "single note" sound keeps on repeating at regular intervals with the melody building up until Aang and Iroh burst into the catacombs.
But then, when Katara is leaving with Aang and she turns back to look at Zuko, this time the music that plays for a few seconds at best, is dominated by the stringed instrument again and this time it's unmistakable.
Also I don't think this music is used anywhere else in the course of the whole show? So it can't really be a coincidence? But I don't really know. I'm saying this on the basis of as far as my memory can reach.
And this is as far as canon stands testimony to what I am trying to say here.
But what about the second half of the story yk, the dying thing, you say?
Well this is where the speculations come in.
Speculation Time:
#1
As a thumb rule, a romance foreshadowed by a tragic tale is meant to have a happy ending.
So this time when Katara's (Shu) life is in danger (Azula's lightning bolt), Zuko (Oma) steps in at the nick of time to save her life (by jumping infront of Katara to intercept the lightning).
(Since I have crossed the limit of images in a post, here is a post by @araeph which illustrates this point.)
Yes, I am completely aware that Zuko taking the lightning bolt for Katara is not his declaration of love for her. What I mean to say is that the whole scene was so very painfully obviously romantically framed (the immediate change in music when Zuko realises where the lightning bolt was headed, both of their expressions, Zuko's agonized "Nooooo", the slow-mo throughout the shot).
I am also aware that Zuko would've taken the lightning bolt for anyone. But it is the narrative that demands that Zuko take the lightning bolt for Katara and Katara only. Because this has atleast 10 different payoffs (a direct callback to the Book 2 finale where Azula had shot Aang with the lightning; the grief of which was for Katara to bear but this time Zuko himself stands between the lightning and Katara instead of being the silent spectator, the culmination of both Zuko and Katara's personal character arcs, Zuko's scar would parallel Aang's: Aang got it because he chose Katara over the world and Zuko got it because he was willing to give up the world to save Katara, etc, etc).
Tl;dr: The lightning scene wouldn't hold all that much weight if it wasn't Zuko taking the hit for Katara because the narrative literally demands it.
#2
This is where we start wading into really murky waters.
From mucking around on Tumblr due to Zutara feels™, I came across this post where some of the ideas for Book 4 were written:
• The Southern Water Tribe experienced the longest series of attacks from the Fire Nation. Zuko and Katara become political partners and work together to help end the animosity and repair relations between their two nations.
• Just like how Zuko learned to appreciate the Earth Kingdom, he would learn to appreciate the Water Tribes. Katara also learns to respect the complexity of Fire Nation culture. There is no such thing as an “evil” nation.
And that basically means that Zuko and Katara would've been working together to de-escalate the hostility between their respective nations and improve the relations between the two nations, while learning about each other's cultures simultaneously as the world would be in the process of being rebuilt after the war and they would be major role-players in shaping the new world.
Which is quite similar to how Oma strived for peace between the two villages and then as a result of the improved relations between the villages, the city of Omashu was built as a monument to the love story of Oma and Shu; which might just be symbolic of building a new world where both the villages could live in peace due to the initiative taken by Oma on behalf of herself and Shu.
The story would've come a full circle; that's all I'm saying.
If you've stuck around for this long, thank you for taking the time to read this long ass post with points that you may already have read ♥️
Hello Again Part Five
Tumblr media
A/n: I am so sorry this took forever for me to post, I don't always feel amazing and its been hitting a little too hard recently But here I am again! Its good to be writing for Toshinori too, I've missed writing for him 👉👈 I hope yall enjoy and commissions are still open! Thank you all so much for being patient with me! <3
Summary: It hurt, remembering. And unfortunately danger was coming.
Ashido looked incredibly excited seeing the big three. You could see the dots connecting in their heads about them. Even Yaoyorozu said what you knew they were all thinking 'Still in school, but practically pros already. They're the students they should be chasing after.'
From what you'd heard about these students, they were that good. You could see them saving people already. You'd also heard about their previous sports festivals. Ahem, Togatas approach to things because of his quirk certainly made things interesting to watch. (I.e. when they showed you the footage you looked away mildly embarrassed at how Togata had to strip down for his quirk). But getting the title of "The Big Three" takes hard work, and you knew that because of it these students worked especially hard to achieve that.
"Get to it. Introduce yourselves briefly." Aizawa said, beginning to point at one of the students. "Let's start with Amajiki."
The boy gave an intense look to the class, one that you could tell scared them as they all sat a little straighter in their seats. He started shaking and quietly talked to the others. "Its no good. You two go. I just can't. Even if I try to imagine them as potatoes, I can see their human bodies. I know that they're still people. No words are coming out. My minds blank and my mouth is dry." You could tell the other students were confused as he shook. "I can't say anything. I wanna… go home." He finished turning to face the wall. You could definitely understand that part. You were mentally begging to check out yourself. The lack of sleep along with the overall stress still affecting you was a lot. But you were going to hold out. You'd sleep later. You were barely paying attention to the students talking, well mostly Hado asking a ton of questions to all the students. It was rather cute of her, she sounded like she should in your opinion. Young, without the major stress involved with being a hero since she's still a student she only gets the glimpses, and nothing has been severe enough recently. Only All Mights last battle, and well you tried not thinking about that tidbit. You tried not thinking about All Might at all. You only checked back in as Togata told the class that they had to fight him, all at once. You all made your way to the gym, watching him stretch and prepare. Although you didn't know much about the third years, you could tell the students weren't taking it seriously. They have fought pros, and they've fought legitimate villains. But right now that didn't matter. They needed to see the ones that are close enough to the level of pros. The ones they have to strive to be. At least Midoryia was taking it seriously. You knew he felt like he was missing a lot. And he wanted to strive to be better (like someone else you knew), you pushed the thought away, just as he rushed Togata. You blinked slowly at the sight. Was that… his clothing just falling off? Hmm, no wonder he stripped before doing anything during the sports festival. Poor Jiro, and well all the students. You remembered how red your face was seeing All- you had to push that thought away. That was slightly embarrassing for both of you, and well… again you didn't want to think about him right now. You felt your heart throb. You missed him. You didn't pay much attention to the actual fighting. It hurt. It hurt thinking about him. You bit your lip. It wouldn't do well to break down in front of everyone. You were strong, so you grit your teeth and pushed the feelings down. You could see Togata beating the crop out of all the students. Few were still standing. Now they were taking it more seriously. This kid put in hard work to be able to get everything down to a pat. Midoriya did well though, predicting exactly where Togata would be. But it wasn't enough, as all of them ended up defeated. Togata would have to work on that predictable part of his attacks. Villains would kill for someone that predictable, and although it took Midoryia actually analyzing the situation, a smart villain would do the same eventually. Or they would listen to someone who could do what Midoriya does. And it could get him killed. He was fast, but an unfortunate reality was that eventually, he wouldn't be fast enough. Someone would be faster, and it won't end well. Permeation. It was actually a good quirk to have with the right training, and well the spirit that Togata has as well. To be fair any quirk would be a good quirk to have, especially with the right help on how to train it. It was why you're a hero. You learned as much as you could, trained like hell, and overall just did your best. You turned everything you experienced into the power you showcase whenever you used your quirk.
"Let's get back to class now. Say "thank you"." Aizawa said. All the students yelled it happily. They were beyond excited at the prospect of work studies. Before the three third years left, you ran after them.
"Togata!" They all turned at you.
"Oh cool! You're that hero that disappeared 20 years ago right? How'd that happen? How are you feeling now?" Hado asked you hurriedly. You gave a smile.
"I'm doing just fine now." A lie, but you weren't telling children what you were feeling. No matter how close they felt to you in age. "Togata, I've got a favor to ask."
"I can help however I can!" He exclaimed. Easily giving you a blinding smile.
"You're interning under Sir Nighteye, right?" You asked.
"Yup, I sure do!"
"Great. The next time you're planning on heading over to see him, mind if I tag along? Eraserhead mentioned to me that he might need a healer on his end for things." You asked.
"I sure can ma'am." He replied easily, still giving a carefree smile.
"Great! I'll see you when that happens then alright?"You smiled at the group. "You guys are doing amazing, and Amajiki it's alright to be anxious. Just remember you have support available for you alright?"
"Y-yes ma'am." He replied, hunched over.
You ran back over to the first years leaving the gym. Trailing behind them, you finally succeeded pushing away the negative feeling at least.
☆☆☆☆☆
In the safety of your own room you allowed yourself to finally relax. You were still trying to hold back though. The day was long, and it was difficult to not just break down again. Everything was just hitting you too hard. Thrown into the future, everyone busy and you still having feelings for All Might but him… he moved on. Of course everyone would. You were gone for 20 years. But it hurt. It… it hurt so much. You felt the tears gather in your eyes and sobbed. Your whole body was shaking, and you weren't breathing in properly almost hyperventilating at how hurt you were. The feeling wasn't going away for even a moment. You could just feel more agony, you wished. You really wished that he didn't move on. That you weren't thrown so far into the future. That your childhood friend didn't abuse his children and wife so severely. You wished that you were just better than you actually were. Alas you were just you, you were thrown in time. And you couldn't reverse it.
☆☆☆☆☆
As the days passed it was getting harder to avoid him. You kept walking out whenever he would walk in. You really couldn't handle being near him. You were just avoiding the eventual confrontation that would happen. Avoiding him telling you he was Midoryias father. And then you especially wanted to avoid the press coming to U.A. all together. They could… probably figure something out, and you didn't trust the press too much. You didn't want to see something portraying you as some young gold digger hero trying to ride the coattails of a more experienced pro. You weren't trying to do that at all. You were a good hero on your own. But not a lot of people knew about how you showed up. It could easily be figured out with research, but even then it could still be spun around as such. Or the public view of you could turn to that even if it's not said or even hinted at. You cut your thoughts off. It would do no good to dwell on it. Not when the guest came in.
"Don't worry on my account, Mr. Aizawa. I wanna get a feel for what dorm life is really like, so there's no need for them to act any differently from normal." Was all you heard as you walked by, giving a polite nod to the reporter and exiting the dorms.
Avoid it. Don't even think about it. Ignore it until you could be alone. Don't let anyone see you break. You needed to be strong.
☆☆☆☆☆
You didn't really need anything, you left to mostly wander around. Get a true look at Musutafu and how it's changed over the years. Everything was looking a little better, people were safer. 'Toshi did a good job protecting everyone.' You thought. A symbol of peace didn't exist when you were a kid, just heros doing their best. He truly changed the game for what heros could do. But it wasn't all good was it? You could feel it, the way certain people were staring, how they interacted. There was some underlying tension between people. It was subtle but you learned early to read things like that (you tried forgetting how you learned that, not good to think about that right now). Today you were going to figure out what happened with Kotaro. You needed to know if he was okay. If he was able to be happy, if he was able to become who he wanted to be. You really hoped he was able to. Then you could see him! And spoil him the way you had planned when you were younger. And you could apologize to him. You could finally make it up to him. For missing out on so many things for him. All you had to do was look.
☆☆☆☆☆
You made your way to the detective you'd talked to when you first came to. He was honestly the only one you could talk to in your opinion. He knew you already and understood that you were, by all means, a time traveler, so you trusted him. Toshi trusted him too. Don't think about it. You walked into the police station. You were going to be just fine. You were thankfully easily able to get his attention.
"Ah hello y/l/n. Its good to see you."
"Hello Detective. It's good to see you too." You replied. You stood by awkwardly, watching as he began sorting through paperwork. "I uh know we don't know each other that well. And this might be awkward but I need to ask for your help." You continued. He turned towards you a little panicked, (He knew you were avoiding Toshinori, mostly because the man himself came to him panicked about it, and well you looked exhausted) you didn't register that though, looking down at your feet. "I know we don't know each other that well. But… I really need your help to find someone." You clenched your fists. "He means a lot to me and he was hurting so much before I disappeared. I need to apologize." You looked up at Naomasa with pleading eyes. "I need to apologize to him Naomasa." He looked a little awkward at that.
"I can't help you like that." He said, and you looked away. "I can let you know if I ever hear about him though. It won't look good if I give out his address. But I can keep an eye out for you and let you know." He put a hand on your shoulder, and you looked up at him again. "I'll help as much as possible, just give me the name I need to keep an ear out for."
"Shimura!" You exclaimed in excitement, not seeing how Naomasa froze. "Its Shimura Kotaro!"
☆☆☆☆☆
It was easy to get you to leave after he said he'd help you find Kotaro. He… he couldn't tell you what happened to him though. Not now. Not when you looked at him like that. And you just barely knew about Shigaraki. Plus it was too shocking to know you knew Nanas son. He could hold off on telling you for now. Just so he could figure out how he could. He hoped you didn't figure it out before then. And well… he had to tell Toshinori you knew his mentors kid. How the hell was he going to do that?
☆☆☆☆☆
You were walking back with a little more skip in your step. More excitement than when you left the dorms. Naomasa said he'd help you! You would see Kotaro again. You'd be able to hug him with all the love you had in your heart. Things were finally going to be looking up for you. Finally, things will go right! Just then someone ran past you, and you heard someone cry out "My son!" And everything stopped. There were villains you truly believed could be successful if they had gotten help. But you drew the line when it involved children. You knew how devastating it was to be hurt so young. You immediately began chasing after the person who ran past you, flicking your wrist to have water rush to the child in their arms. They stopped running, pressing a knife against the young boys neck, as they turned towards you.
"Don't think I won't cut him you dumb bitch!" They yelled. They didn't notice the water. And they probably thought you were just some civilian trying to play hero. You narrowed your eyes at them.
"You don't have to hurt them-" they cut you off.
"If you come closer I'll slit their throat!" They snarled at you, the child in their arms was sobbing. Absolutely struggling to contain their tears.
"Its gonna be alright kid. I'm here to keep you safe alright?" You said to them. They looked at you and their lips were wobbling. You gave a reassuring smile. "Besides. They're not a cool villain at all are they? Their situational awareness sucks." The villain narrowed their eyes at you and was about to start screaming again, when you finally made the water move forward fully and covered the little boy in their arms. The blade wasn't even able to touch his skin. Not even a little nick as you forced the child out of their arms and into yours. The villain gaped at you, then tried to turn and run. But you already made sure they were trapped by another flow of water, plus using their own blood to hold them back.
The boy was sobbing in your arms and the mother was finally able to catch up to you, sobbing and reaching out. The boy was able to drop in her arms instantly, with a wobbly voice calling out "mom!" She thanked you profusely after that, and you both waited for police to show up. And you were almost scolded, until they realized you had your license and Naomasa greeted you by calling out your hero name. You and the mother gave your statements as they arrested the person who tried kidnapping the little boy. Kidnapping was a strong word though, they just knew it'd be harder for anyone to catch them if they ran with a kid in their arms. Afterwards you were going to walk off, but a tug at your shirt stopped you. A small hand clutching the lower half of your shirt. He had a small scrape on that hand.
"Thank you for saving me, Ms. Siren." His voice was still wobbly, still shaken up. But he was giving you a bright smile. The mother was smiling at you both, with a grateful smile on her lips and mouthing her own thanks to you.
"Kid, I've gotta thank you too! You were so brave!" You said, crouching down to get a better look at him. "Can I show you a little trick?" You asked, gently grabbing his scraped hand. He gave you a confused nod, but his eyes lit up seeing you create a flow of water and covering his hand with it. Any stinging he felt in his hand vanished in an instant, and his eyes widened in glee.
"Whoa… Ms. Siren you've got the coolest quirk!" He yelled. You didn't see it. But someone walking by saw you heal that little boy, and you didn't know it, but he was working for Overhaul. You wouldn't really know it until much later, unfortunately. But you went back to the dorms, running into the reporter who was just leaving and giving a respectful bow to him. You were safe at the moment. Unknowing of what was about to happen, and how your life was about to change again.
☆☆☆☆☆
"Boss." A voice called out, getting the attention of a man holding a little girl covered in bandages. He nodded in acknowledgement. "There's a new hero out and about. But I think she'd be quite useful to us." He said. The other man passed the little girl off to another person, gesturing them to take her to her room.
"I'm listening."
Notes:
So.. this is kind of an AU take on my current CSI Vegas fic, trouble. You do not have to be reading that to read this though. Tis merely filth I wanted to write, from the standpoint that instead of them being thrown together and having to deal with a crazy ass ex... Sara arranges a blind date for them after they’ve met a time or two and she suspects they’re into each other. It’s kind of set around the earlier seasons too.
Ya’ll.. If anyone would rather read THIS VERSION... I’m highkey tempted to maybe write it at some point. Like... Minus all the crazy shit that’s going on in Trouble. It’d just be their run ins and stuff and then them getting together.. anyway.. I had to have this, so ya’ll must now suffer with.
Prompts:
None. Blind date / sex on a kitchen table could be considered, I suppose.
Warnings:
This content is not meant for minors. If you’re under 18+ this is not for your eyes. I warned you very clearly, right here. If you don’t like smut, you’re not going to want to keep reading.
As far as things you need to be aware of if you’re sticking around: unprotected sex ( why is it always my horny ass muses that never remember protection?) body fluids, dry humping in a movie theater...Pretty much it.
                                                 BLIND DATE.
“Okay. I’m here.” I took a deep breath, reaching for the handle on the doors that led into the movie theater. Taking a second or two to check myself over in the reflection of the glass as I continued to mutter to myself, “I’m here.. Now to see if this mystery guy shows up.”
Just as I went to step into the lobby and out of the rain, I felt a tap to my shoulder from behind. It was around this same time that my eyes locked on Greg Sanders, standing behind me. Flashing me a grin even though he looked just as nervous as I was.
I felt my cheeks start to burn under his intent gaze.
We’d only spoken a few times, mostly when I popped in to bring my sister food during her shift and on my break from dancing at the club. And those few times had been… Intense. To say the least.
There was definitely underlying tension between us. A heavy pull to him.
I’d never actually told my sister this, of course.
Which was interesting considering Sara was the one who set up this whole blind date for the night.
“Belle, hi.”
“Greg, hey.” my teeth caught on my lip and I turned to face him. He seemed to remember the single red rose in his hand and chuckling quietly, he held it out. I took it, smiling as I passed it under my nose.
He reached around me, his arm brushing right against my side as he pulled the door to the lobby open, letting me step inside. Stepping inside behind me.
,, I owe my sister for this. More importantly, how did she know? Does this mean he’s hinted about being interested in me, I wonder?” my mind was working overtime. My mouth wasn’t quite keeping up with it, because I wanted to ask just to clarify that I’d somehow managed to luck into Greg being my blind date tonight, but the words were stuck in my throat. I mean, logically it had to be him, he’d given me the deep blood red rose I held in my hand.
“So…” I finally managed a word. A weak one, but still a word. Greg chuckled. His eyes roamed over me slowly. Subtly. But not subtle enough that I didn’t know he’d just checked me out. He stepped closer as a crowd of noisy teenagers all decked out as characters from the horror movie I intended to see rushed past. His hands settled on my arms to hold me steady. I stepped closer to him. Flashed a teasing grin.
“Are you sure you’re up for this? I mean it’s a horror marathon.” I asked. Greg smirked, shrugging. The movement called attention to broad shoulders and I stared at him entirely too hard for a few seconds.
Like an absolute moron.
“ I’ll be fine. Are you sure you’re going to be okay though. Sara told me that you like horror movies in theory, not so much in reality.” Greg flashed a teasing smirk of his own. One of us stepped closer. Our bodies brushed right against each other and the end result was this electric jolt shooting through my entire body at lightning speed.
I pretended to pout. Walking my fingers up the front of his faded gray t-shirt. “I guess it’s a good thing I’m not alone tonight then, hm?” I practically purred. “For the record, I’m not that bad.” I gave a soft smirk, nodding to the line that was growing rapidly across the lobby for the movie we’d chosen as I grabbed his hand and started to make my way over to the end of the line.
I smirked a little as my eyes settled on our reflection in the plexiglass surrounding the ticket window and I could see the way he towered over me just slightly from behind. And yeah, maybe I couldn’t resist stepping back into him just a little. Enough so that our bodies kept contact. My smirk only grew as I saw him swallow hard. His hands settled on my hips.
And to anyone around us, we probably looked more like a couple out on a date than two people who barely knew each other on a blind date.
We’d gotten our tickets. Playfully arguing back and forth over the fact that I paid my own way as we drifted into the concessions area and got into line for snacks. I found myself drawn to the guy like a magnet, pressing myself back into him as we stood in line.
Snacks in hand, we started to make our way to the theater showing our movies. My hand found his, my fingers lacing through.
“I don’t really do the blind date thing often.. My sister didn’t like… guilt you into this, did she?” I had to ask just before we stepped into the room cloaked in darkness. Greg chuckled, raising a hand. Dragging it through spiky hair as he smirked down at me. “I was about to ask you if she guilted you into agreeing…”
We shared a laugh and my back hit the wall next to the door softly. Greg’s hand rested palm down against the wall, just beside my head as he gazed down at me. Intently. Like he wanted to say something, but he wasn’t sure how to go about saying it.
And then, finally… he did.
“I would’ve asked you myself, you know.” Greg chuckled quietly. This news had my mouth opening and closing as my brain tried to catch up to what he was essentially saying. I found myself pressing against him a little more. “You would, hm?” escaping my mouth as a quiet purr as he stared down at me and bit his lip, swallowing hard again and nodding.
“Mhm. I was actually going to. The next time you came into the station.”
I licked my lips, tilting my head slightly as I looked up at him. Toying with the front of his shirt as I continued to try and process what he was getting at. Stunned, because I’d never really thought that he felt the magnetism I felt. I’d actually had myself convinced that it was purely one sided. Or that he’d never actually be interested in me.
“I would have said yes.”
This time, he was pressing into me. Harder. I took a shaky breath, my eyes settling on his mouth. And then the flash of something in his eyes. The goofy smirk as his other hand squeezed my hip.
“I didn’t think you liked me.” Greg licked his lips, eyes drifting down to mine, settling on them. The end result was me, taking a few more shaky breaths.
If the lingering tension between us was thick before, it was downright smothering now.
But so was the excitement. And the sense of right. Calm. Like tonight at least, I was exactly where I needed to be.
“Honestly, same.” I answered, both of us sharing a laugh again.
My sister had managed to play both of us. The thought sank in. I made a mental note to really, really, really… Thank her for it later.
A throat clearing behind us had us laughing and disappearing into the darkened theater. We chose a seat in the back row and settled in. His arm slipped around the back of my seat and I leaned against him a little, our eyes meeting.
The theater went even darker and the opening scene of the movie began to play. Almost instantly, as the grainy black and white opening shot of Dr. Wolfenstein’s opening speech began, I dove my head down after a quiet shriek.
As quiet as one gets.
“What the fuck have I gotten myself into?” I wondered in a whisper against his neck, making him laugh. But pull away and look at me. “If you wanna leave, we can…”
“Oh no. No, I’m determined to prove my sister wrong. I can handle this.” I took a deep breath. Greg leaned in, whispering against the shell of my ear, “If it’s too scary..”
The look in his eyes as mine met them gave away clearly what he didn’t say. I nodded, filing away the suggestion. Then the body count started to rise. And what he’d told me came rushing to the front of my mind.
“Fuck fuck fuck. Fuck.”
“Hey Belle.” Greg muttered, making me look up at him. When I did, he gently gripped my jawline, guiding my mouth against his, the taste of soda and m&m’s and popcorn mingling as his tongue trailed over mine, tangling with it and taking total control of the kiss, catching me by surprise just a little bit because honestly, if I’d imagined kissing him, I was usually more of the aggressor.. I wound up turning to the side in my chair slightly, deepening the kiss. Slipping my legs into his lap as his arm settled over them.
That huge group of teenagers had pretty much abandoned ship twenty minutes in just when the movie was starting to get a little too gory because the girl dressed as Baby was full on sobbing and begging to leave.
We basically had the theater to ourselves at this point.
And that heavy tension?
Only getting hotter. Heavier with each second that passed.
It wasn’t long until my legs across his lap wasn’t easy or convenient for either of us. Greg chuckled as a particularly deep and intense kiss broke and we pulled away to breathe a little.
The movie was all but ignored by now.
Merely background noise at this point.
I spotted the weak beam of an usher’s flashlight and devolved into a fit of giggles, muttering against Greg’s neck quietly, “We’ve got an usher. Let me just face the front really quick.. They usually make a round and they’re done. Unless… you like the thrill of almost getting caught in compromising positions...”  I flashed a teasing grin, a soft giggle leaving my lips as soon as I saw him turn just a shade red beneath the dim lighting.
I straightened myself in my seat and took a few long and shaky deep breaths to attempt even beginning to calm myself down.
That damage was done already. I was… beyond wet. A dripping mess at this point. Everything just felt so much more intense. Intimate. The way his hands felt all over me. The way it felt to kiss him to the point where we were both dizzy and needed to breathe but also, didn’t want the kiss to end.
“Do I want to know what that meant?” Greg chuckled. A teasing grin as we found ourselves staring at each other again. Still trying to catch our breath from the deep and heavy kiss ended abruptly just seconds before.
I raised a brow. “What? Like you never purposely chose a boring movie and the back row of the theater in high school? Half the fun is in only just barely managing not to get caught...” I trailed off and gaped at Greg in disbelief when I could tell by the look on his face that he had no idea what I was talking about.
And there I went, falling just a little more.
“I,uh.. It wasn’t ever really a big issue, no.” Greg laughed quietly, shaking his head. “ To be fair, I wasn’t ever Mr. Popular, either.”
I giggled, raising my hand to my mouth to stop the sound. “No. Noooo.” but the whole admission was so sweet the attraction I had to him before grew even more.
“You’re not serious.” I asked in a whisper as the usher finally made their way past us and out of the theater again.
He leaned down in his chair a little, leaning into me. Muttering against the shell of my ear, “I am, actually.” as he gave me almost a sheepish look.
“Jesus. Were girls at your school fucking blind or…?” I questioned, locking eyes with him all over again. The way his cheeks turned just a shade red beneath the dim overhead lighting only turned me on more than it should have. I glanced around the theater and then at the door behind us.
Spotting absolutely no one, I smirked. Greg eyed me, a brow raised as I slipped out of my chair and into his lap, facing him. Leaning down, catching hold of his jaw, tilting his face upward as I leaned mine in closer. Muttering against his mouth, “We have to change that. Like.. that’s an epic wrong that has to be righted, sir.”
Greg shifted in his seat and his legs spread slightly to give himself a little more room and to catch me if I started to slip off his lap, I guess. When he did this, I could feel him starting to strain against his jeans and I rocked myself right over it, burying my mouth in his even deeper to stop myself from moaning too loudly.
“Okay, so how does this work exactly?” he mumbled in a hushed and husky whisper against my mouth as his tongue swept past my lips, finding mine all over again. Gazing up at me. One of his hands going to my ass, squeezing. His other hand skimming up and down my side. I nearly whimpered again when he used the grip on my hip to rock me over the way he strained at his jeans harder. Pressing me down into him, sending a dull throb through my dripping sex.
My teeth latched onto his bottom lip, sucking. I rocked myself against him, baring down against his lap harder but it wasn’t enough. “It would’ve worked better if I’d worn a dress but trust me.. You know exactly what you’re doing.” I muttered as the soft smacks of our mouths meeting over and over again shattered the silence around us.
“Not really. Not when it comes to this...” he insisted. His fingers dug into my ass and his other hand tangled in my hair. He bucked himself against me when he shifted around in the seat a little. I gasped, my fingers digging into his shoulder, rocking against him just a little more. Hoping to ease the dull throb I was really starting to feel.
We pulled away to breathe again and I leaned against him, muttering against his ear, “For a guy who says he hasn’t made out in the back row of a theater before, you definitely know how to make a girl wet.” as I tried to collect myself. Tried and failed.
My words seemed to make him snap. He was shifting me around in his lap so that I pressed against the bulge strained hard against his jeans. The hand in my hair drifted down, disappearing between us. Settling flat against my throbbing cunt. Massaging clumsily because we had limited space to work with.
Our mouths met all over again with a ferocity that had me blown away. In awe. I’d always kind of considered that Greg was handsome. Quiet. Sweet.
I’d never really… Imagined he possessed the side he was showing me right now. Somehow, I got the feeling I was one of very few people -possibly the only one but i didn’t dare hope, who might have ever even seen this side of him and that thought turned me on even more.
“How wet, exactly?” Greg questioned, his gaze meeting mine. By now, any thoughts I’d previously entertained about actually watching the movies I’d paid to see was… A fleeting and distant memory.
I wanted him.
Hands and mouth all over me. Tearing my clothes off. Buried inside me.
“Fuck.” I writhed around in his lap. Desperate for more friction. Anything to ease the steady throb. The divine torment that was his hands all over my body. I reached down, grabbing hold of his hand. Guiding it back against my aching sex. He took a ragged breath when he felt the way I was just starting to soak through skin tight black jeans. Our faces bumped at one point, making us pull away to laugh. Getting lost in each other’s eyes all over again.
“Ya know, we’re not really watching this…” I mused, trailing my tongue gently over the outline of his mouth. Smirking when I felt him shiver and heard him mutter a barely audible “Fuck” under his breath as he gripped me harder and took a few shaky breaths.
“We’re not.” Greg agreed, a distracted hum as his hands roamed all over me. One disappeared beneath my shirt and I barely managed to bury my mouth against his fast enough to stifle the moan that got swallowed by the kiss when I felt his hand cup my breast, squeezing.
“We could leave.” I muttered as my lips ghosted down the side of his neck and I rocked and rubbed against the way he strained at his jeans all over again. Urgently.
The suggestion had him standing. Not bothering to untangle me from his body. My legs circled his waist, squeezing as he carried me out the door and then out a side exit of the theater since it was well past closing hours by this point.
The entire trip across the parking lot had us kissing, the kiss only breaking once we’d reached my car and I had to dig around in my pockets for my keys. Finding them in my jacket pocket, I slipped them into his hand after unlocking the car. Greg opened the passenger door, setting me down in the passenger seat. I pulled him down, his mouth meeting mine all over again. His hand settling between my thighs. Growling into the kiss as he rubbed my aching core.
“Greg, get me out of here.” I moaned against his neck as I rocked against the palm of his hand. He shivered slightly as my mouth dragged over the area, latching on lazily. Breaking the kiss to pull away and lock eyes with me.
“Your apartment or mine?”
“Honestly, whichever one is closer?” I pleaded, beyond desperate to be alone with him. He nodded, stepping away, shutting the passenger door to my car. I buckled my seatbelt, letting out a whimper to myself in the silence of my car as I watched him sprint around the front of it to get into the driver seat.
Once he was inside I was doing my best to lean across the console, our mouths meeting in another frenzied and deep kiss. My mouth strayed, roaming down the side of his neck, leaving another small mark behind. He groaned, tilting my chin. Making me look up at him. Giving me a teasing smirk as he asked in awe, “What am I gonna do with you, hm?”
“Whatever you want.” I answered, licking my lips as I held his gaze. His smirk only grew as he muttered thoughtfully, “Whatever I want is a pretty broad answer.”
“I meant it too.” I whispered softly as my mouth danced down the side of his neck all over again, making him shiver once more.
“I didn’t even know my neck was a hot spot.” he chuckled as he started to pull out of the parking lot.
By the time we were parking outside of my apartment, I couldn’t take another second. He killed the engine and I unbuckled my seatbelt, slipping over the console and into his lap. Reaching down beside the seat to let it back a little bit further.
He grabbed hold of my hips, rocking me against him as he pulled me closer. Bucking up into me from below as the tips of his fingers dug into my lower back and my ass. His mouth capturing mine in a frenzied kiss that he took complete control of, surprising me all over again. He leaned into me, putting my back right against the wheel of my car, making us both laugh when I accidentally pressed right against the horn and the noise shattered the softer sounds of our kissing and we wound up jumping apart.
Taking deep breaths. Trying to get ourselves under control even though we both knew it was a little too late for that.
His hand caressed my cheek as we leaned against each other heavily. My hand trailed over his chest, settling palm down against it. Fingers curling in the fabric of his button up. Itching to grasp and tug and send buttons scattering as I tore his clothes off.
Everything was so very intense. Vivid.
And yet, soft. Gentle. Intimate.
“Okay, if we don’t move this inside, my nosy neighbor is going to get an eye full.” I half muttered, ghosting my lips against Greg’s mouth. Making him grip me tighter. Nodding. He got out of the driver seat, sprinting around the front of the car. Throwing open the door on my side and leaning in, scooping me up as if I were light as a feather.
Oh, I had no doubt he was stronger than he made himself seem, but something about the way he did it and the little chuckle and smirk on his face as he did so had me soaked through in seconds.
My back met my front door with a soft smack and Greg was pressing into me heavily as he tried to be smooth and put the key in the lock without breaking our kissing and touching. Drawing a needy whine and a pout from me when he had to stop. Unlock the door.
He stepped inside my apartment, taking a minute to close and lock the front door behind him. Stepping over to the kitchen table, sitting me on top of it. My hands settled on his shirt and I tugged it apart, sending buttons to spray and settle on the flooring. He gripped the bottom of my shirt, pulling it up over my head, tossing it out into the room behind him.
With a quiet rip, my bra settled on the floor near my shirt and his shirt. My hand slipped down between us, fumbling with the button and then the zipper of his jeans as he started to work my jeans and panties down my legs. I let my heels settle on the floor with a quiet thud and kicked my jeans and panties free at the ankle and Greg grumbled about having to break the deepening frenzy of kisses to step away and pull off his shoes. He kicked his jeans and boxers free and stepped back into me.
My legs circled his waist, squeezing against. My arms wrapped around his neck and I gasped softly as our bodies molded together. The contrast, the way he felt pressed against me. Skin against skin. It was enough to take my breath away. His hands skimmed my sides, settling on my thighs. Squeezing as he slipped me forward on the table  even more. Burying his mouth in mine all over again with a quiet growl.
Teeth scraping against my bruised and swollen lips as his tongue separated them. Sinking his cock into me carefully. Slowly. Going still to let me adjust. His mouth latching onto my neck as he left the first of quite a few sizable marks behind on my skin. His grip on my hips tightening as he pumped in and out of me, a little faster. Slowing down when he felt me starting to shake a little and melt into him.
Tilting my chin as he mumbled softly, “This is not how I saw tonight going.”
“Me either.” I gasped, gripping his jaw, pulling his mouth against mine as my legs clenched his sides and my heels dug into his ass, driving his cock into me even deeper, making him strike directly against my spot. Sending a shiver racing through me that had him smirking against my mouth. Slamming into me all over again as he questioned, “You liked that, hm?”
“Yes.” I moaned out, my head falling back as my eyes fluttered open and shut and I tried to fight off a fast approaching orgasm.
Greg slowed to a stop, his hands and mouth all over me. Touching and kissing every patch of skin he could get his hands and mouth on. Locking eyes with me as he mumbled quietly, “You’re so fucking beautiful.”
“Have you seen a mirror, sir?” I purred as my mouth crashed against his and I tried to rock my hips to meet his deep drives, eager to get off. His hands squeezed my hips, bringing my movements to a halt as the kiss broke and we pulled away to breathe. He leaned down, his forehead settling against mine as he caressed my face. “Not yet.”
I pouted, pleading. “Please?” I gasped out as he started to fuck into me all over again. Slower. More deliberately.
His grip on my body almost bruising and yet still somehow gentle. Careful.
“I’m not made of glass baby. Harder. Please?” I begged breathlessly. He slammed into me harder. Deeper. Groaning against my skin, “You feel so good. So good.”
“Greg!” my cry pierced the air as he muttered against my mouth, “Fuck… Belle. Baby, let go.” and he didn’t have to tell me a second time because as his hips snapped against me frantically and he buried even deeper inside, I went smashing over the edge, my orgasm ripping through me, making me cling to him and try to come down from the high, clenching his cock, flooding it. Which sent him straight into his own orgasm, throbbing and filling me up. Pulling away to stare at me before burying his mouth in mine until the kiss was so deep we were both dizzy.
“You don’t have to leave tonight…” I asked hopefully. He chuckled and shook his head. “No. Do you want me to stay, Belle?”
“Very much so.” I melted against him, giving a sleepy smile as I went in for another kiss....
I love your theory about levihan so much. But I'm curious, what do you think about levi and petra? does levi love her? and if petra doesn't die, are they likely to become canon? thank you and sorry for my bad grammar :)
Thank you for the ask anon and your grammar is fine <3
I actually answered a question about this a while back, you can find it here.
As mentioned in my previous ask, back when I first watched the anime in 2013, I was more of a rivetra fan than a Levihan fan. I only saw the potential for Levihan post time skip after I binged everything again and I was a little mature about love and romance and was more aware about what exactly I’d look for in a good ship.
Let’s face it, the Levihan crumbs were incredibly subtle although there were some planted all the way until season 1.
But if you look at season 1, you’d see a lot of the Rivetra crumbs dropped, especially when compared to the Levihan ones, were less subtle and could easily be more interpreted as romance.
Examples of these include the amount of time Levi spent in front of her dead body, the badge of Petra he ripped off so he could keep, the one scene where he looked at her dead body as it was thrown out of the cart and of course, the letter saying she was going to dedicate her life to Levi and her dad mentioning to Levi that she was too young to dedicate her life to people.
And a lot of people in 2013 had this assumption, (okay fine probably me too.) that Petra was Levi’s fiance. It was a reasonable assumption since they were throwing words around like “she’d dedicate her life to him,” “She’s too young to get married,” and these are more conventional lines for a romance novel or a romantic subplot.
While the closest thing we have in the Levihan ship which could count as romantic subplot material are “let’s live together” and “dedicate your heart” and every other thing was as subtle as the hints Reiner and Bertholdt were titan shifters in season 1. And even early on, the Levihan crumbs consisted of small jokes, banter between the two, arguing and military strategizing. And what do we expect anyway? They’re both incredibly emotionally constipated.
Because of the glaringly obvious rivetra crumbs, teenage me ate Rivetra up like ice cream on a hot summer day.
But did Levi really love her?
Teenage me: YES.
Looking back at it now though, it’s hard to tell.
He thought highly of her definitely. He respected her enough to pick him for his squad. He stopped at her body, felt regretful at losing her corpse, tried to keep her badge and froze solid when the father of Petra approached him about it. But those don’t necessarily have to be considered romantic crumbs now that I think about it.
I mean, I talked about it more in the ask I linked above so just check it out. The point is, Petra was just the easiest to put as Levi’s morality pet when they were still establishing Levi’s character since of all the 4 squad members who died, Petra had been the most fleshed out.
if petra doesn't die, are they likely to become canon?
I’m inclined to say no because I’m a Levihan fan. But as objectively as possible, they had potential. If she survived and worked closely with Levi, possibly as close as Hange and Levi worked post time skip, it possibly could have been them together.
(MAYBE EVEN A LOVE TRIANGLE) but ughh... If you wanna go there... I hate to say this but if Petra and Hange did love Levi and were both going to confess,  I would put my money on Petra managing to confess first.
I mean, one reason we did get more Rivetra crumbs in the first place compared Levihan crumbs is because I think although Petra is younger than both Levi and Hange, I feel like she has a better head on her shoulders romance wise and would have been more easily able to navigate a developing romantic relationship with Levi.
But Levi and Hange’s bond definitely extends beyond romance and despite Levi and Hange’s interactions not being blatantly or conventionally romantic, I ended up enjoying it more than Rivetra and I think that says a lot about the potential of Levi and Hange’s subtle interactions. And Levi and Hange knew each other for much longer and they obviously see each other as equals which I personally would have preferred in a relationship. And their interactions are more raw and candid because of that power balance between them.
But Petra’s emotional maturity romance wise just makes it so difficult for me to tell right now how a love triangle would work between them and just trying to imagine it makes my head hurt. Maybe I’ll hc it in another ask another day.
(But low key, I agree with Petra’s dad, she’s still too young to get married.)
First off, before everyone comes after my butt with their "No Fun Allowed" and "Cringe" signs, this is in no way something to be taken as gospel or insightful. It's not a prophetic enforcement of canon. It's literally a theory done for fun, and to try to piece the Bendy Crack up Comics into the general and messy lore of the BatIM franchise.
Most of you get this and don't need a big wordy warning about fanon interpretation, but a lot of peculiar people tend to show up in my ask box hoping to start a fuss over my headcanons and AU ideas, so I thought to be nice and leave a polite and diplomatic "Kindly Fuck Off" sign at the door for them.
With that said, there will be mild spoilers, carry on of your own volition, down below under the cut that will definitely show up because Tumblr mobile is a functional app that's never given me trouble!!!
[[MORE]]
The Bendy Franchise has an established issue with cohesion in its lore. We all know what I'm talking about, we all have reservations about canonical character discrepancies (game vs novel vs guidebook) and we all have been racking our brains with a few holes in the timeline, as well as how BatDR (which is neither prequel nor sequel) will fit into this, since it's connected to BatDS and that's an established prequel to BatIM.
Granted I myself am missing a lot of pieces, having to scrounge around for info since I can't really get any of the reading material myself and rely heavily on @british-hero (who owns the novel plus got her copy of the comics yesterday), a very incomplete wikie, and analysis and theories from SuperHorrorBro's Bendy videos.
Heck, I also rely on a lot of gameplay footage, because BatIM has a bit of subtle storytelling through visual design of its levels, and hints of how certain characters work through a few game mechanics.
Through this mishmash of collecting puzzle pieces for the greater picture I even have a few notes on my phone to piece together certain events in established dates, something which comes very in handy for this theory since it talks about two particular characters, the Projectionist and Brute Boris (and I guess Twisted Alice to some extent but it's more of a note on some interesting thoughts I have of her).
Without further ado, here's what this theory is all about: Why did Norman become the Projectionist, and why did Twisted Alice turn Buddy Boris into Brute Boris?
If you think about it, there's only two creatures in the studio that really seem out of place in the world of BatIM, and that's Prophet Sammy and the Projectionist. Neither are inherently similar to any of the cartoon characters, nor are they considered to be Lost Ones. They're certainly not Searchers, but while we know Sammy is unique because his method of transformation was different, we never got an explanation for Norman's. It could be that it's a process similar to BatDR's new enemy type that's larger and seems to have bits and bobs stuck to it, but then those big guys seem like the equivalent to Swollen Searchers for the Lost Ones. The Projectionist doesn't really fit the puzzle.
Or at least he didn't.
With the introduction of the Crack up Comics collection, we get three new characters that were definitely designed in the same manner that the Butcher Gang was. Beginning with a corrupt monster forms and then giving way to perfect and pristine rubberhose toon forms.
I'm talking about Miss Twisted, the Brute, and Cameraman.
Tumblr media
The villainous trio from the Souper Boris comic strip.
To us it's obvious the artists created them in parallel to Twisted Alice, Brute Boris and the Projectionist, but to the actual canon this actually has a bit of an impact on the Projectionist's existence.
Why, you ask? Because those characters were introduced between 1936 and 1940.
Tumblr media
For anyone who doesn't know (either from not paying attention to the Joey Drew Studios channel audio logs, or from not owning the books) the Ink Machine wasn't conceptualized or installed until 1942/1943. Putting that into perspective, the only other thing that happened in Joey Drew Studios in 1940, was the conceptualization of Bendyland (which is likely the origin of the idea for the Ink Machine itself).
This means that Cameraman existed well before the Projectionist ever came to be, and that made me think about another thing: The Ink's apparent sentience.
I'll be frank, the Ink is very hard nut to crack. I consider it a form of alchemized entity, others consider it pure black magic, and I'm pretty sure Joey Drew himself had no idea what he was dealing with when he began using it. The fact of the matter is that the Ink is alive and that it has its own agenda. One that coincides with Joey's, out of mutual interest.
In the novels it seems to want to be free, but it can't exactly do that as a formless liquid, so it tries to body-snatch people (ex: Sammy and Buddy's grandpa).
When Joey tries to use it to give life to Bendy through nothing more than using the Ink and a template (likely a character model sheet) the Ink tries to follow the model but immediately becomes a distorted humanoid version of it (which honestly rings so many fucking alarm bells on its own). Things… Escalate there on out, with Joey trying to perfect the method and only managing to succeed through Daniel Lewek (and many other nameless Boris Clones), Allison Pendle and Thomas Connor.
An important thing to take from this, however, is that by trying to perfect this method Joey not only taught the Ink to reshape things into viable referenced material, but that he had to have lost control of just how many souls were being pumped through the Ink Machine for him to monitor and keep up.
Sammy started killing people when he completely turned, and it didn't seem to take long for him to cut down people in likely both the music and art departments. At this point he had no self-restraint and was completely wrapped around inky fingers and Joey's lies.
Norman is one such potential victim, and Dot and Buddy even passed by his ink-wrapped body while fleeing.
Now, the thing about trying to follow a specific guide and not having the actual means to make it exactly the same thing, is an easy enough notion to get (as shows like "Nailed It", and years of trying to perfect visual style mimicry, have taught me).
The Ink likely had the template it needed (maybe a printed copy of Souper Boris that got thrown around in the chaos), the insight of what Norman's role in the studio was, the amount of mass it needed to consume and transform his dead body, but not exactly the right sort of… Centerpiece for it...
Tumblr media
Cameraman using his lens to light up his path.
But what's a projector besides a bigger fancier camera? Both blink, both take film, same thing right? The ink doesn't see the difference and just stitches together this humanoid bootleg cameraman with the pieces it finds that are similar enough.
Mechanical blinky head? Check.
Strange round disc near the belly? There's a speaker. That's round! Check.
Film? There we go, a nice big round reel full of film in it, let's put it near the head, that's how it works right? Check.
Lastly, no Joey to actually direct this artistic recreation of a one-off character. The Ink did it all by itself while he was off getting his hand broken by a rightfully upset Buddy Boris.
If you look at it objectively it makes sense that being the projectionist tasked with not only recording and maintaining the projectors themselves, that the entity in the Ink would pick Cameraman as a template for Norman's transformed self.
It also makes sense that the Projectionist is so off-putting in the studio. He's almost perfect, but not quite because there just weren't the right materials. He's stuck in between Twisted Alice and the Butcher Gang clones as another failed recreation.
Moving on to the next question on why Twisted Alice turn Buddy Boris into Brute Boris, when she hadn't done the same to any of the other Boris Clones.
It's hard to say really, but I think it all comes down to who Twisted Alice really is. It's very likely that, as Susie Campbell, she would have knowledge of the comic strips. A few were most likely made into cartoon shorts even (which isn't an unusual assumption to make), and maybe Susie voiced a few background characters for said shorts.
Susie may have lost her role as Alice, but before Joey came to her with his proposition for the "special project" it's very likely that she remained in the studio, forced to do the voices of characters that weren't noteworthy or that she felt completely disconnected from (talking chairs and singing hens really don't become beloved fan-favourites) . Maybe if the Souper Boris story was made into a short, she might have voiced Miss Twisted (which honestly would be personally insulting considering she once had the role of the main heroine).
Point is, Susie knows her lore, and that translates to Twisted Alice's repertoire of insightful knowledge on the abominations lurking around the studio.
She never did turn other Boris clones into brutish lackeys because at the time she didn't need to. But it doesn't mean she hadn't considered it. Henry's disruptive behaviour is just what she needed to put that plan into motion.
There was already a "Cameraman" walking about, one that could easily rip apart anything it came across, so acquiring the means to recreate the "Brute" would have been benefiting from her point of view. The Projectionist doesn't take orders and can't be reasoned with, so if she could make something just as strong that took her orders she could, theoretically, be safe from most terrors in the studio. If that didn't work, she would still likely send others to their death by simply sending them down to Level 14, or maybe lure the Projectionist to them herself (just because he doesn't take orders doesn't mean she can't use him to achieve her end goals).
Tumblr media
Miss Twisted, the Brute and Cameraman in their evil swamp lair.
But why Buddy Boris specifically? Why couldn't she have used any of the bodies laying around? Freshness most likely. Rigor mortis is probably still a thing, even for living cartoons. Easier to work a fresh dead body than a bunch of stiff wolves.
That's at least why I think Brute Boris is a thing. Susie's knowledge of most Bendy cartoon/comic strip characters, taking inspiration from the Projectionist's presence, and honestly a very twisted sense of humor and irony. In her quest to become a Perfect Alice, the heroine of the show, she ended up becoming just as antagonistic (although more sadistic) as Miss Twisted, a Bendy comic strip villainess.
David Jacobs and the multitude of excuses
Jack Kelly was beautiful. Fiercely beautiful, in a way that made David’s head spin. It didn’t matter that his lips always seemed to be chapped or his hair was messy or the fact that he was always covered in paint. David smiled, it seemed that Jack ended the day with more paint on himself than his canvas. It didn’t matter that he always wore the same hoodie, or doodled on the desks, or always laughed too loud. And it certainly didn’t matter that he made David’s heartbeat quicken if he even looked in his direction. It didn’t matter that he looked so damn handsome when he was painting, the way he stuck his tongue out, and seemed to pick apart every imperfection until he was satisfied. It didn’t matter that David had been madly in love with him since Freshman year.
None of that matters.
Because it was tech week of their final spring show and David had barely said more than two words to him. And the worst part of it all was that it wasn’t Jack’s fault, Jack was trying. David was just too much of a chicken to let him get too far.
“David, right?”he said, he hadn’t bothered to lift his gaze from the tree he was painting. David’s hands shook around his clipboard and he nodded until he realized Jack wasn’t looking. And after a few beats of silence he did look. He looked up at him through those hooded eyes and Davey had to get out of there. His eyes immediately flitted around the room looking for something, anything to complain about. He locked eyes with a freshman who was definitely doing something they weren’t supposed to and he jumped at the chance.
“Put that prop down!” he was stomping across the theatre before Jack could say anything.
Davey groaned, that sadly wasn’t the last time either.
“Hey, Davey!”Jack greeted. Davey’s eyes widened slightly and he squeezed the pen in his hand. No, no this wasn’t happening. He was running on two hours of sleep,a large dunkin donuts iced coffee and sheer spite. It didn’t seem like a good idea for him to be talking to anyone. Why did god hate him? He saw Jack walking closer and fumbled with his phone pressing it against his ear, he shot an apologetic look and spun around walking in the opposite direction.
“Mama? Yes, i’m on a break right now”
That wasn’t even the worse one.
He wasn’t having a good day. It was as simple as that. A conversation with his father at breakfast had  snowballed into criticism over his plans for college once again and he was tired. He was tired of hearing about his wasted potential, and how it was his obligation to educate the ignorant. He just wanted to be a director, why was that so hard to accept? This argument led to his mother suggesting he walk to school that day, and he relented cause mother knows best. But he hated walking, the school wasn’t necessarily close and the walk signs took forever. He just wanted to disappear and the day had just started. Then he had a pop quiz in calculus that he definitely wasn’t ready for, then he got hit in the face with a dodgeball, and then the vegetarian option at lunch was just nonexistent so he was hungry. His only solace was that he got to go home early. He had practically jumped for joy the second the final bell rang.
Until he was scheduled last minute for rehearsal that day. It shouldn’t have been such a big deal, they were usually so well behaved. But today must have been Spite David Day or at least that’s how he felt. Nothing went right, everyone had found some way to piss off the director, and she took her frustrations out on him for not ‘doing his job.’  So that’s how he found himself on the verge of a panic attack slumped against the wall of the auditorium. They were actively running the show, no one should’ve been out of the theatre. But out walked Jack Kelly, in all of his swagger. His eyes locked with Davey’s. Before he could even open his mouth, Davey had turned on his heels and ran. He ran until he was in a completely different wing and hid there until rehearsal was over.
So yes, Jack was trying. Trying harder than most to befriend him, and it touched Davey, it really did. But it was hopeless now, the show was next week and then there would be no reason for them to talk again. Maybe it would be better that way, all he seemed to do was make excuses. If Jack wanted to forget his existence entirely he wouldn’t blame him. He didn’t like confronting his feelings anyways. Pining was familiar, it was something he could do in his sleep. Which he often spent most nights doing, but that wasn’t the point! The point was that he felt comfortable right where he was. The longing and pining from afar zone.
So it was fine. He had blown his chance and he would just have to get over it. That was something he was also good at doing, getting over things. There were only a few hours left of tech, then he could go home,complain to Sarah and maybe have a good cry over some ice cream. Well maybe not Sarah, she’d heard enough about Jack Kelly over the years that she could probably recite the way his eyes twinkled when he laughed just as good as Davey. She was also due to snap any day now from the stress of his pining and AP History. So no, definitely not Sarah. The family cat was just as good when it came to listening even though she hated Davey. He’d go home,complain to Cosette—yes he had a phase—cry into his ice cream and then hopefully pass out on the couch. Hopefully. He hadn’t been sleeping well and he was all out of melatonin.
“Okay!”The director shouted. He startled, smacking his head on the wall he was resting on.“That was good, take fifteen”
Fifteen? What kind of sick joke was this? He quickly sidestepped, narrowly avoiding a herd of actors running past him shouting.“Thank you fifteen!”
He took a deep breath and let his shoulders sag, thank you fifteen indeed. He leaned his head back against the wall. The director seemed to be in a good mood, maybe she’d let them go soon so he could get his pity party started early.
“Davey.”
Oh no. His eyes focused on the figure stalking towards him and he sucked in a breath. Honestly, why did god hate him? He couldn’t speak. He was expecting Jack to slow down but he continued barreling towards him. He’s not sure what he expected during this break, but it wasn’t a strong—god was he strong—arm pulling him down the hallway into the boys dressing room. He sputtered as he was thrown inside and the door was locked behind them. And well, he froze. Deer in the headlights style because there was no way that still happened. He looked at the creases in his shirt from where it had been clenched, and he stared. He stared until a hand was snapping rapidly in his face. He looked forward and loandbehold there was Jack Kelly, looking about as pissed as he could muster. Which in his case was very, and honestly kind of terrifying. His eyebrows were furrowed in the most handsome way and his lips pulled up in a snarl.
Oh shit.
“What’s your problem?”He asked. That felt like a slap in the face and was once again something Davey was not expecting. He racked his mind for something to say, but he came up short. He was stunned. Jack waited a few beats before he exhaled harshly through his nose and shook his head.
“Huh?”He prompted, “You can’t even answer me?”
Davey winced and began shaking his head. His fingernails buried themselves in the palms of his hands as he desperately tried to stop the shaking. This isn’t how he wanted this to happen—hell he wasn’t even sure he wanted this to happen. The way he planned it happening was in the courtyard of the school, under that pretty cherry blossom tree that always bloomed so full. He’d have all the right things to say, he’d compliment Jack on his painting, say he’s seen him around the school. He’d be suave and daring and confident and everything that he currently wasn’t. While his inner turmoil was spinning Jack was pacing around the room, hands gripped in his hair, mumbling to himself. Damn, he even looked attractive ten seconds away from losing his shit. He spun to face Davey, eyes aflame.
“I ain’t asking you to like me, Davey”he said, he ran a hand through his hair. He seemed...he seemed nervous.“But at least let a guy know how you feel, this-this avoidin shit been stressin me out!”
“I’m sorry”Davey whispered. The words felt heavy on his tongue and he knew they were pathetic. He knew they weren’t the right thing to say, but maybe if he just apologized Jack would let it go. That seemed to do the opposite cause Jack let out a little laugh and shook his head.
“Don’t apologize Davey, it ain’t you. Just...am I out of my league here?”He asked, flinging his arms a bit
“Like, was I gettin them hints all wrong?”
“W-what?”Davey sputtered.
“I see the way you look at me”he said patiently, “But am I readin it all wrong?”
Maybe his subtle glances weren’t as subtle as he thought, but he didn’t want to read too deep into what Jack was saying. There was always room left for disappointment.
“Ho-how do i look at you then?”Davey asked.
“Like you wanna kiss me?”He questioned, “I don know!”
Davey felt his cheeks redden, and nope, nope this isn't happening. He bit his lip and followed Jack’s eyes as they travelled down to where his teeth sunk in. his heart did a little skip, as Jack took a step forward. He wanted to take a step back but his feet were firmly planted to the floor. Half of his brain was telling him to run, but the other half really wanted to see where this ended up going. Jack took another step forward, and another, until he was within arms reach.
“Do I..do I make you nervous, Davey?”he said quietly.
“Yes”Davey whispered, screwing his eyes shut. God he wasn’t ready for a first kiss, not this way, did he even floss this morning-his thoughts were stalled by a laugh. The same laugh that made his knees weak, so much so he found himself leaning against the table.
“I’m sorry”he laughs, “I...I ain’t good at this stuff, my brothers Spot if that’s any excuse”
“Conlon?”Davey squeaks. Jack nodded his head.
“That’s the one”he said, “It’s just...I wanna know you, I wanna know Davey Jacobs”
“Y-yeah?”
“Yeah”He said taking a smaller step forward, “I wanna know what makes you laugh, what makes you tick,how to help when you get all jittery, how to make you smile cause boy I’ve had my eye on you since the day I got here”
Something inside Davey snaps and he pushes at Jacks chest. “No”
“No?”He said, tilting his head.
“Just no!”Davey exclaims, “You don’t wanna know me, this is all just some joke-”
“Davey-”
“And you’re gonna go running to your friends after rehearsal-”
“Davey please-”
“And I can’t let that happen because-”
“Davey!”he shouted, waving his arms. “I like you! I genuinely like you! I’ve liked you since the second term of Freshman year when you argued with the substitute on how World War one really started!”
Davey felt mortified and his face grew even hotter. “He...he was just really stupid, okay?”
“Yes, yes he was!”He exhaled, “and i liked that you weren’t afraid to tell him that! I like how fired up you get when you debate in English class, you scrunch your nose up and you talk a mile a minute”
“I-I...”
“You don’t gotta speak”He said, “Just let me do this. I like the way you care about the cast, you get snippy sometimes but it’s because you want the best for us. You’re good with the freshman, even though they’re little beasts. I think it’s cute how you caught the volleyball with your face last week-”
“Asshole”Davey muttered.
“Hey!”He huffed, “I got that guy back for you”
Davey’s eyes widened. “You’re the one who sent Oscar to the nurse?”
“Let’s just say I didn’t see him when I spiked the ball”He winked, “but honestly Davey, i’ve had my eye on you for a while. All of my friends have been giving me hell to make a move, and I was trying to but...you gotta let me know, am I wrong about all of this?”
“No”Davey whispered, “No you’re not i’m just...i’m not too good with feelings”
“That makes two of us”He chuckled, “I’ve been plannin’ to say all of that for weeks but you make me nervous too”
“I make you nervous?”Davey says in awe.
“Everytime you look at me I get my lines wrong”he said. “I’ve been off book for weeks, but seeing you look at me like I put the stars in the sky just...God, you’re killin me Davey”
“How?”Davey asked.
“Because you’re doing it right now”he smiled. Davey bit his lip and dropped his gaze but Jack grabbed his hand and squeezed, “I never said I didn’t like it, it does wonders for my ego”
“Shut up”Davey mumbled.
“Now that I finally hunted you down? Never” He said. “I wanted to say this a few weeks ago but you ran and I...I wanted to give you space but, when all this tech shit is over. You wanna go get ice cream? I know a place, it’s across the bridge but-”
“Yes”Davey says immediately.
“Yes?”he exhales.
“Yes, I wanna,”Davey says.
“I would kiss you right now if you wasn’t shakin like a leaf,”he says, running his thumb over the back of Davey’s hand. And this, this was better than anything he could have imagined.
“Aye can we pause the Romance!”Race yells from outside the door, “Director called places ten minutes ago and she’s gonna have my ass if I don’t come out with both of you!”
Davey froze. “She’s gonna kill me, she’s going to actually kill me”
“I’ll tell her you were helping me run my lines”He said, “I ain’t gonna let her kill you”
“Well if she isn’t gonna kill Davey, then it’s gonna be me so let’s go!”Race yelled.
“We’re coming, keep your shirt on!”
“Shouldn’t I be sayin that to you and your--oh”Race said, once they finally opened the door. “You two are decent, that’s surprising”
“Everyone ain’t a whore, Racetrack”He sighed, rolling his eyes.
“Well that wasn’t very nice.”Davey said with a frown.
“Yeah Jack, that wasn’t very nice”Race smirked, “I think I like you Davey, if you get tired of this one you know where to find me”
“Don’t let Spot hear you sayin that”
“Please”Race snorted, “like I care what Spot says”
“That’s not what I heard the other day-”
“Alright!”Race snapped, “Don’t gotta go embarrassing me in front of your boyfriend”
“He’s not-”
“We’re not-”
“Yeah right”Race said, rolling his eyes. “The way Jack’s been goin on about you, you might as well be his husband”
And this time it was Jack’s turn to blush. His face turned scarlet and with a betrayed cry he was chasing Race down the hallway. Once they were out of sight Davey took a minute to collect himself and squealed. Cosette and Sarah would definitely be hearing about this when he got home.
To My Dearest Kara
Summary:
Kara is anxious and Alex is giving her a push that she definitely need. Lena is overthinking and Maggie is... well... being Maggie.
Chapter 2: Yours Truly
Having James tell her to take the whole afternoon off when she about to get lunch, Kara decided to swing by Alex’s apartment before going to get food and eventually, to L-Corp. she needed her sister’s support and advice on how to approach Lena without freaking her out knowing that the brunette intended to keep the letter and wasn’t ready, yet.
“Hey, Alex. You home?” Kara called out as soon as she entered her sister’s loft.
“Here.” Alex said lazily, raising her hand and waved it at Kara. She was lying on the couch with some popcorn on her stomach. “I just finished watching a movie.”
“Don’t you have work?” Kara asked, wondering why her sister was like acting like she had all the time in the world.
“Nah. Don’t feel like getting up.” She stretched. “They’ll live without me barking orders at them for a day.”
“They’ll probably be so thankful for your absence.” Kara quipped.
“Hey!” Alex sat up and threw a cushion and hit the blonde square on the face. “I may be harsh on them but, they all love me and I deserve a break.”
“A break, huh. The end of the world must be near.” Kara continued teasing her sister to hide the shock that her workaholic sister was taking off work for a whole day. “Now, I’m just gonna wait for Lena to stop working without me having to drag her out of her office, as well.”
Alex laughed at Kara’s latter statement. “That would require for a miracle to happen.”
Kara paused for a moment, looking like she was mulling over what Alex had said then nodded with enthusiasm. “Yup, yup. Definitely.” She just then laughed and settled herself beside Alex and grabbed a handful of popcorn, earning a swat from her sister on her hand saying that she should go and make her own. She just stuck her tongue out and continued grabbing handful after handful of popcorn from Alex.
Giving up, Alex muttered. “You’re insufferable.”
“But you still love me.” Kara retorted.
“Says who?” Alex asked, raising her brow.
“Says you.” Kara answered with a wide grin.
“Yeah, yeah. I do love you so, shut up.” Alex chuckled. “Anyway, to what do I owe this visit?”
Kara was just silently staring at her which made her brow furrow. “Kara?” She called out but the blonde was still silent. “Kara, what’s wrong?” She nervously asked, her protective instincts taking over. “Answer me.”
Kara shrugged. “Well, you told me to shut up so I did.”
Alex looked at her sister incredulously. “You ass! You scared the shit out of me, I thought something was wrong.” She doesn’t know if she’ll smack Kara or laugh. “You don’t have to take everything literally.”
“I know. I just love teasing you every now and then.” Kara laughed again which made Alex groan.
A few more chuckles from Kara, the blonde puppy decided that it was enough and told sister what she really intended to do here.” “I found her… The one who wrote the letter.”
“Really?” Alex asked casually. “Who?”
“You won’t even react that it’s a her and not a him?” Now it was Kara’s turn to look at her sister incredulously.
“No.” Alex answered flatly. “And stop looking at me like I’ve grown a second head and just answer my question, Kara.”
“Fine.” Kara huffed. “It’s Lena.”
“Ha!” Alex exclaimed triumphantly, making Kara jump due to shock. “See? I told you!”
“Holy sun, Alex! Don’t do that! Are you trying to give me heart attack or something?” Kara reprimanded while clutching her chest. “And I’m pretty sure you never told me anything, by the way.”
“Sorry, not sorry.” Alex shrugged nonchalantly. “And I’m also pretty sure I dropped not-so-subtle hints before. I dropped a lot, actually.”
Kara wracked her brain, trying to remember when did her sister give hints but to no avail. She can’t remember where or when and frowned. “I really can’t remember you giving me any hints.”
Alex laughed. “It’s because you’re too dense to notice those hints. Hell, you didn’t even notice your own feelings up until now.”
Kara rolled her eyes good-naturedly. “Yeah, yeah, I’m dense, alright. No need to rub it on my face.”
Seconds of laughter later, Alex’s demeanor changed. “So, what are you planning to do?” She asked in all seriousness.
“Well… We’re going to have dinner tonight. Other than that? I don’t know. That’s why I’m here.” Kara sighed. “It’s just that, I want this to be perfect… I mean, she deserves more than anything and everything. I want her to feel that she’s well-loved. I want her to feel that she’s accepted. That no matter what the people think about her, whatever negativity that was thrown at her, it doesn’t matter because she’s something more to her, there’s more about her other than her being a Luthor.” Alex remained silent, letting Kara pour her feelings out without interrupting her.
“She’s special, Alex. She strives hard to be a force of good even if the people out there continued judging her because of her last name…” Kara trailed off.
“But?” Alex asked softly, encouraging her sister to continue.
“But, she’s only human, Alex. And us humans can only take so much and with her under that kind of pressure, I’m scared. I’m scared that I might freak her out. I’m scared that she may hate me for reading that letter. Her intention was to keep the letter. Not have me read it. What if she changed her mind? What if- what if…” Kara paused and took a deep breath to calm herself. She knows that she’s rambling and she can’t help it. “What if she doesn’t feel the same way anymore? Alex, what do I do? I- I…”
“Hey…” Alex slung her arm across Kara’s shoulder, giving her a sideway hug to comfort her rambling sister. “You’re overthinking, Kara. We’re talking about Lena here. Lena freaking Luthor. Your best friend and, I think it’s safe to say, your significant other. If there’s someone who loves you more than anything and anyone else,” Alex muttered ‘excluding me, of course’ and felt warmth on her chest when it elicited a giggle from Kara. “That someone is Lena.”
“You know, love is such a strong word.” Kara spoke with a voice just above whisper that if Alex wasn’t listening, she might have missed what her sister had said.
“Yeah… It is.” The older Danvers agreed. “And it’s stronger between the two of you because it’s true.”
Kara smiled, hope blossoming in her chest. “You really think she does? Love me, I mean. Because if you ask me if I love her, I do. I really do.”
“I don’t think she loves you, Kara. I know she does.” Alex gave Kara a light squeeze on the shoulder. “Though unfinished, the letter says it all.”
Kara glanced at her bag, knowing that the letter was secured inside of it. “I’m a walking anxiety.”
“Only when it comes to Lena.” Alex deadpanned and dragged her sister up. “And as much as I love having you here, I believe you told me that you have dinner plans, or shall I say a date, with the love of your life. I, on the other hand, have plans with Maggie tonight, as well, and will have a dinner date of our own.”
“It’s not a date.” Kara protested as her sister dragged her out of her apartment.
“Oh, it is a date. Enjoy!” Alex gave her a shit-eating grin before slamming the door on her face.
‘Did- did she just kicked me- me, her sister- out?’ Disbelief crossed Kara’s face as she stared at the door of her sister’s apartment before begrudgingly trudging out of the apartment building.
Once Alex was sure that her sister was gone, she whipped up her phone and called her girlfriend.
“Guess who was here.” She immediately said as soon as Maggie picked up.
“Hello to you, too, Danvers. I am doing fine, thank you so much for asking.” Maggie replied sarcastically.
“Sorry, babe.” Alex chuckled. “I was just kinda excited.”
“Oh? Alex Danvers getting excited that I wasn’t the cause?” Her girlfriend quipped. “Do tell.”
“Hmm… Promise me first that you won’t flip.”
“You know I flip at everything.”
“Okay, that’s fair enough. How to put it?” Alex mulled over her words, knowing that Maggie was definitely going to flip and just decided to just wing it. “Kara finally admitted that she’s in love with Lena.” Alex smirked even though she knows Maggie can’t see her.
“She what?!” Maggie practically screamed, making Alex’s smirk turn into a grin.
“Now, now. Don’t go breaking my eardrum before I even get my... winnings?”
“Goddammit.” Quiet as it may have been, she still heard what Maggie muttered on the other line.
“Oh, and I would also like to collect that fifty bucks later, thank you very much.” Alex said smugly.
“Oh, fuck you.” Maggie hissed.
“Oh, yes, please do.” Alex laughed causing Maggie to groan.
“Ugh… Why did I ever agree betting on Little Danvers’ love life with you?”
**
7:00 pm
With Chinese takeouts (including a box of salad and three of potstickers), Kara was pacing back and forth in front of Lena’s office. All the confidence that she felt awhile ago at CatCo seemed to have dissipated even after Alex had given her a peptalk. She was quite thankful that Jess had left earlier than usual so that no one will be able to force her to go inside Lena’s office. Not that she doesn’t want to, no.
After several more minutes of pacing, she tried to calm her nerves. ‘Okay, Kara. Deep breaths. You can do this. You got this.’
Building up courage and after releasing a small huff, she entered Lena’s office. As she entered, she saw a focused Lena typing on her laptop. Deciding not to interrupt as she found the brunette’s look quite (okay, not quite but, extremely) adorable, Kara leaned on the door frame as she silently watched Lena.
Wearing her corporate attire which Kara adored since the day they met, her hair wasn’t up in its usual bun but it’s cascading a little lower down her shoulders, beautiful green eyes fixed on her laptop screen, slender fingers delicately tapping away on her keyboard, and blood red lips pursed on concentration. ‘God, those lips, really.’
Kara whipped up her phone and composed a message.
Kara: Knock, knock.
Lena’s eyes drifted on her phone beside her laptop when it lit up and Kara swore that she had a mini heart attack when she saw Lena smile. A smile which she had caused and a smile that was reserved for her and her alone only.
Lena: Hmm… Who’s there?
Her phone pinged (kicking herself internally for forgetting to put it in silent mode, wanting to be smooth but of course, she was always an epic fail) and as if on cue, Lena’s enticing emerald gaze quickly found her sapphire ones. Kara was at a loss for words and felt like she was under a spell and it was the kind of spell that only Lena Luthor can cast upon her.
“Kara.” Lena stood up immediately, forgetting whatever work she was doing, walked towards Kara and gave her a hug that was too brief for Kara’s liking. “Have you been standing there long?”
“Not really. I got here just a few minutes ago, actually.” She answered. “I believe the question should be, have you been waiting long? I know we talked about meeting 7, but I’m, like, 30 minutes late.” ’25 minutes pacing back and forth in front of your office and basically, 5 minutes staring at you, to be precise.’ Kara thought. “You must be hungry already. I’m sorry.”
Lena shook her head. “Darling, there’s no need to be sorry. I’m quite alright, but thank you for your concern.”
Kara’s heart skipped a beat. It always happened whenever Lena’s calling her those sweet endearments. She’s definitely not gonna be used to Lena’s endearments, not that she’s complaining. “A-are-“ She cleared her throat. “Are you sure?”
“Of course.” Lena husked out and kissed Kara on the cheek. “Shall we eat?”
Kara could feel her face heating up and she was sure as hell that she was blushing really hard. “Y-yeah. W-we should eat.” She stammered and placed the takeouts on the table. “I got you a salad in case you don’t want to eat heavy.”
Lena chuckled. “Ah, always the thoughtful one. Have I told you that you’re my favorite person?”
“A few times, yes.” Kara answered while bobbing her head. “But please, do tell me that a little bit more.”
“And make your head bloat?” Lena raised her brow and smirked. “Never.”
This made Kara pout. “Aww… You’re mean.”
“Don’t pout.” Lena mumbled something incoherently at the end which Kara wasn’t able to get.
“I’m sorry, what?”
“Nothing!” Lena exclaimed and grabbed a box of potstickers which Kara grabbed as well, causing their fingers to brush against each other.
Lena was about to pull back when Kara pushed the box towards her. “Up for a greasy night?”
“I’d like to indulge a little when given the chance.” Lena answered, gratefully accepting the box with a wink and started to eat as she settled on the other end of the couch.
Kara blushed, if possible, even more and by the looks that Lena is giving her, she was sure that the woman in front of her noticed how red her face is and Lena seemed to enjoy Kara’s reactions.
They were eating in silence and it wasn’t an awkward silence rather, a comfortable one but, even though as comfortable as this was, Kara’s thoughts were wandering. How was she going to confront Lena? She doesn’t know what to do no matter how hard she thinks. ‘I’m an airhead.’ She thought.
“Kara, dear...” Lena called Kara and she snapped her attention towards Lena. “Are you okay?”
Kara blinked. “What? I mean- uhh, of course.” She chuckled nervously. “Why wouldn’t I be?”
Lena sighed and smiled a bit. “You, my dear, are a very bad liar. Now, tell me what’s bothering you. Brows furrowed, nose scrunched, and all.”
Kara bit her lip, feeling embarrassed for being caught lying. She forgot for a second that it was Lena. A genius, a scientist, her best friend. Of course, Lena knows if she was lying. That and she’s a terrible liar.
“Kara…” Lena settled beside her which slightly startled the blonde. Kara was so caught up in her own thoughts that she hadn’t notice Lena moving from her spot. “You know you can tell me anything, right?”
“I know that.” Kara mumbled.
Lena gave Kara a light squeeze on her shoulder. “Then tell me what’s bothering you. Maybe I can help.”
“Yeah… You definitely can.” Kara took a deep breath. “Lena…”
“Yes, Kara?” Lena asked in almost a whisper.
“Do you- I…” Kara let out a shaky breath, hoping that it’ll calm her nerves. “I mean, did you… Did you write a letter?”
Lena pursed her lips for a moment before answering. “What letter? I’ve written tons of letters, Kara, so you have to be a bit more specific.”
“Well…” The blonde hesitated for a moment. She couldn’t read Lena’s expression. It was like she had her CEO mask on, the one she uses to guard her expressions, and it was never used on her. She let out another shaky breath before speaking. It was now or never. “A letter intended for me, Lena. The one with the confession.”
“I didn’t.” Lena said with a stoic expression.
“B-but James said that you-“
Lena cut her off. “He lied.”
“No…” Kara shook her head in disbelief. “He wouldn’t.”
“But he did. I didn’t even know that such letter exists.”
“Please tell me you’re lying.” Kara pleaded.
“Why?”
“B-because… because I want to know how the letter ends. I just want to know…” Kara trailed off.
“And?” Lena prodded.
“And I was hoping that it was you who wrote the letter because I…”
“You, what?”
“I love you, like, not in a platonic way. Like, I’m really in love with you.” Kara confessed.
Lena let out a humorless laugh. “This is ridiculous. Kara, are you sure? Do you even hear what you’re saying? I’m unlovable, Kara. After all, I am a Luthor. You can’t possibly love me. I don’t deserve-“
“No, Lena, stop degrading yourself and listen to me.” Kara leaned closer towards the brunette, leveling their eye contact. “Just because you’re a Luthor doesn’t mean that you’re unlovable or you’re not capable of being loved and Lena, you are one of the most inspiring woman that I have ever met and you deserve everything and you’re not just inspiring, you are also strong, intelligent, funny, beautiful, caring, and it goes on and on and if I start making a list of the reason to love you, it’ll take me forever to list the things why.” Kara was a bit shocked that she had said it all in one go without even stuttering but nevertheless, she continued. “Your name doesn’t define who you are. You’re not just a Luthor. For me, you’re your own. You are Lena… and you aren’t that hard to love, Lee. So, I’ll ask again. Did you or did you not write the letter?”
“I…” Lena was about to deny but when she looked at Kara and the blonde was looking back at her with her glassy blue eyes, looking like a damn kicked puppy again, her resolve crumbled. No one, not even her nor Alex, can resist Kara looking like that. She sighed, knowing that she was helpless at Kara’s mercy. Little did she know that Kara was feeling the same. “Fine… I did write the letter.”
With Lena finally admitting that she was the one who wrote the letter, Kara felt relief wash over her and before she can top herself, she blurted out. “Can I kiss you?”
Her face instantly heated up and she also saw that there was a tinge of pink blooming on Lena’s cheek. “I- I mean, it’s okay if you don’t want to. It’s totally fine, really. I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable or anything. It’s just that-“
Her rambling was cut short when Lena pulled her by the neck, feeling the soft lips that were pressed against hers.
“Just shut up and kiss me. No one’s stopping you.”
And Kara did. She placed her hand on Lena’s cheek as she finally closed the gap between them and kissed Lena with passion and longing which was reciprocated with the same intensity and she felt Lena smiling between their kisses. She could hear her heart pounding loudly and she knew she was so screwed. She has fallen hard for her best friend.
With reluctance, Kara was the one who broke off the kiss as they were gasping for air. She was smiling wide like an idiot as she leaned her forehead on Lena’s.
“So… would you mind finishing the letter for me?” Kara asked a moment after their lips parted.
“I actually have the finished one. What you got was just a scratch that just so happened to be folded neatly.” Lena stood up and walked towards her desk. “I was about to throw it away that day and suddenly there was an emergency at the R&D that needed my immediate attention so I left in a hurry and didn’t notice that it slipped out of my bag.”
“Would you read it? Please?”
Lena smiled softly. “Of course. For you.”
Lena grabbed a piece of paper from her desk and settled back beside Kara. Clearing her throat, she began to read. “To my dearest Kara,
I have so much to say actually, but I guess I’ll keep this short, not that short, and go straight to the point. I just want to say thank you for being such a good friend and for everything you’ve done for me. You are the most extraordinary person that I’ve ever met and meeting you is probably the best thing that’s ever happened to me since the day that you walked into my office. I am usually guarded when it comes to reporters but, you? There was something in you that made me open up with ease. Other than that, I also want to let you know that I’m hopelessly in love with you. I don’t expect you to reciprocate my feelings, so don’t pressure yourself. I just merely want to get this out of my chest before it overwhelms me. You’re the only one who treated me like I was just a normal person and indifferent from the others. You trusted me completely regardless of my family background and you stood up for me whenever I’m being treated wrongly. You bring out the best in me and you try hard to let others see the good in me. If this letter affects our relationship, I want you to know that I’ll still be here whenever you need my help. I guess that’s everything.
“Oh, and one more thing. I love how my name rolls out of your tongue with your melodic voice.”
Kara laughed, or more likely giggled. “Lenaaa. You only added that last line just now, didn’t you?”
Lena shrugged and chuckled a bit. “Maybe?” Lena cleared her throat again and read her salutation. “Yours truly,” Lena casted a loving gaze at Kara. “Lena.”
Kara almost cried. Nope. She wasn’t gonna cry in front of Lena… Oh, who was she kidding? A tear already rolled down her cheek which Lena wiped with a gentle swipe of her thumb. Never in her life had she received something that’s really heartwarming such as this. Not from her previous suitors. Not from her exes. Only from the woman who is currently right in front of her. “Lena Kieran Luthor, have I told you that I love you?”
Smiling, Lena grabbed Kara’s hand and intertwined the fingers. “You have. But please, do tell me that a little bit more.” Lena said, throwing back what Kara told her just awhile ago, eliciting a laugh from the blonde.
“Well played, Lee. Well played.”
“You know, I’ve been wanting to hear you say that you love me for years...” Lena confessed, squeezing Kara’s fingers lightly.
Kara tilted her head to the side, looking confused. “I’m always telling you that.”
“That’s true…” Lena agreed. “But not in the way how I wanted it to be.”
“It’s a good thing that we’re on the same page, then.”
“That we are.” Lena giggled and gave the blonde a chaste kiss. “Oh, and Kara?”
Kara grinned. “Yeah, Lee?”
“I love you, too.”
**
As soon as they got in their apartment, Alex’s phone pinged.
Kara: Got my girl. (followed with lots of emojis)
“Oh, you have got to be fucking kidding me!” Maggie exclaimed behind Alex as she read Kara’s message and Alex was howling with laughter.
“You should’ve listened to your own self not betting about Kara’s love life with me babe.” Alex pinched Maggie’s cheek. “That’s another twenty for me.”
Maggie swatted Alex’s hand. “Damn, I shouldn’t belittle Little Danvers’ abilities.” She huffed and glared at her girlfriend. “I’ll wipe that smug look off on your face one day, Danvers. You just wait.”
“Don’t worry.” Alex gave Maggie a brief kiss on her lips. “I’m definitely gonna look forward to that, Sawyer.”
This wasn’t part of the plan, Chapter 7
Melody was struggling to come to grips with the fact that her English teacher currently had his head buried between her thighs with her legs draped over his broad shoulders.
When Tom had made subtle hints about what the night would entail over dinner, she still hadn’t quite expected him to pounce on her straight away once they stepped through the door of his house. But from the moment Tom’s lips touched Melody’s for the first time, she knew she was going to be putty in his hands.
He’d taken her straight upstairs to his bed, where he took his time undressing her and exploring her body. Every inch of her skin was stroked, kissed or licked. She had been so nervous and shy at first, but now that he had made her cum once already on his tongue and was aiming for a second, she threw out her embarrassment and decided to just enjoy the ride.
She was in awe when he took off his clothes, his body was incredible. He looked tall and lanky with clothes on, but underneath he had so much muscle. He was much stronger than Melody had first realised.
While he was licking and sucking through her folds and over her clit, she couldn’t resist reaching down to run her fingers through his head of curls. They felt so nice gliding through her fingers. But his tongue on her clit was highly distracting.
Melody threw her head back and closed her eyes when Tom wrapped his lips around her clit and started sucking hard, he added his long digits into the mix, pushing into her and curling them to hit her g spot that made her yowl loudly.
After making her cum for the second time, he crawled up over her body while licking his lips and finally took her. She was quick to learn that he was rather dominant in the bedroom, not that she was complaining much because it was turning her on something hellish. She found he was easy to submit to, because he seemed to fall into the dominant role so naturally.
He pinned her hands down above her while he fucked her deep and slow. Then after cumming inside her, he flipped her over and took her again from behind more roughly while pulling on her hair and nipping her neck.
She had no idea how he had so much stamina, especially because he kept going even through three orgasms of his own. And she had completely lost track of how many she’d had.
Tom noticed that she had slipped into subspace when he finally emptied into her for the final time, even though in his mind they hadn’t really done anything overly intense. Though he knew that he was pretty darn good in bed compared to many, he not only had a large and fulfilling cock but he definitely knew how to use it too. He always made sure that the woman was satisfied, as many times as possible.
‘Absolutely beautiful.’ Tom purred, kissing her forehead. She was lying underneath him, completely exhausted. Her mind was hazy and she felt, odd. Something she’d never felt before.
She actually felt really vulnerable and small all of a sudden. Hyper aware of who she had just had sex with. Or more, who had just fucked her into next week kind of sex.
‘Be right back.’ Tom said softly before sliding out of bed to go and fetch some supplies to clean her up with. He knew how to help her through the subdrop.
But Melody started to panic, not liking the feeling she felt. It was something she had never experienced before. She was scared in-case it was because she had just fucked her teacher, for money. She felt dirty…
She jumped out of bed, her legs were a bit wobbly, but she managed to grab her clothes that had been thrown around the room. She started to get dressed as quickly as she could, she was just pulling on her top when Tom came back into the room, still naked.
‘What are you doing?’ He frowned.
‘I’m sorry… I need to… I need to leave.’ She said in a rush. She didn’t think he would want her to hang around after the fuck anyway.
‘Melody, you’re not going’ He didn’t get to finish because she darted for the door and was out as quickly as possible. Tom was stunned at her leaving so suddenly that by the time he’d managed to get on his trousers she was out the front door and running down the steps.
Melody quick walked down the street and managed to hail a taxi that was luckily just passing by. She could hear Tom shouting after her, but she kept moving and told the taxi to step on it as soon as she got in.
She wasn’t able to keep it together on the journey home, crying and shaking the whole way. The taxi driver assumed the worse and asked if she needed help or to contact the police, she assured him she didn’t. But appreciated his concern all the same.
Tom was a mix of emotions when he watched her jump in a taxi and drive off. He was a little hurt, is that what she thought this relationship was going to be? A fuck and go? Or did he do something wrong? But then he thought maybe she had just freaked out and ran. But whatever the reason, she was in subdrop and he wasn’t going to just let her go, he knew it could affect her mentally if she wasn’t looked after.
So he rushed back to his house, hauled on a shirt and grabbed his coat and car keys. As quickly as he could, he drove round to Melody’s. He saw the taxi driving away at the end of her street, so knew he caught up quite quickly. But when he got to her door and knocked, she didn’t answer.
‘Melody, it’s Tom. Open up.’ He shouted through the letter box and started knocking again.
But she still didn’t answer. So he used his shoulder and pushed the door in, scarily easily. He narrowed his eyes at said door and shook his head. ‘She is definitely not staying here.’ He muttered to himself. If he had realised how bad the door was, he would’ve had her move out sooner.
‘Melody?’ He called into her flat, but it didn’t take long at all to find her in her bedroom. She was sitting on her bed, curled up on herself crying. ‘Melody.’ He said and rushed over to her.
He sat down on the bed and tried to pull her towards him, but she pushed him away. ‘Don’t touch me.’
‘Melody, you’re experiencing subdrop. You need to let me help you.’ Tom said firmly, not taking no for an answer he pulled her onto his lap. Even with her squirming he managed to restrain her. She reminded him of a cat that was being forced to hug its owner.
‘Speak to me, sweetheart.’ Tom rubbed her back and started rocking her back and fore.
It took her a moment before she managed to speak, though she hid her face into his chest. ‘I just… I… felt like you wouldn’t want me there… after. And I feel like I just, I don’t know.’ She sobbed.
‘It’s ok. You’ll feel better soon, but you have to let me take care of you. Subdrop is not to be taken lightly, you experience a high of endorphins during our fun and then when it stops suddenly, it can be quite a drop. What you’re feeling is natural when you’ve been submissive, but that’s something else we will talk about in-depth tomorrow. Now, come on. I’m taking you back to mine.’
‘No… I want to stay here.’ She wiped her eyes and tried to move again, but Tom’s arm around her waist was a vice-like grip.
‘You are not staying here. Do you know how I got in? I broke your door with ease, Melody. This place is not safe, it never was. You’re coming back to mine for the night and that is not up for discussion.’
Melody managed to pack some of her valuables to take with her, since the flat was no longer secure thanks to Tom. Though he still claimed it never was in the first place.
It was all a bit of a blur for her, Tom assured her that was natural for the way she was feeling. She dozed on and off on the drive back to Tom’s place. He did his best to keep touching her while driving, a hand at the back of her neck or on her thigh, so she knew she wasn’t alone.
He was so mad at her for running away from him, but he was going to wait until morning when she was feeling better before addressing that. And he was definitely going to be laying down some ground rules, too. For her own safety more than anything else.
When he got her back to his house, she was starting to feel a little better. He had her drink some water and eat a sandwich. Then he took her back up to bed and got her tucked in nice and cosy before joining her. He pulled her flush against him, skin on skin contact did make her feel even better.
She tried not to think about anything else and just enjoyed it for the meantime. Though she was still feeling nervous as heck, being in the arms of her teacher. She was starting to wonder if she would be able to see past that and come to grips with it all.
‘Stop thinking and go to sleep, Melody.’ Tom whispered.
He stroked her back in a soothing manner until, eventually, she fell into a deep sleep.
Blankets made of Trust
“You have one night to decide”. Jason felt the words thrum through the air on loop before slamming into him, nearly knocking him over as he clenched his teeth until the words in his mind became an indecipherable ringing in his ears. You’ve got to be kidding me. One Night to decide whether I want to become a zombie or an attack dog?! He thought furiously. He wrenched his head up and caught the warning stare of the Bat through the bulletproof glass - Who called him again, Jason thought scathingly - who raised an eyebrow. Careful, he seemed to be saying. Don’t talk, or I’ll take away all your options. Options? That was a fucking joke. There was no other option! The Lazarus pit’s madness had been growing more overwhelming by the hour, and if he went without some kind of spell he would become a mad serial killer. At the same time, what they were proposing was out of the question. Jason scoffed and turned to stare out between the thin bars of his cell. It was a damn miracle the idiots hadn’t been broken into already, most of their walls being made of glass, he thought sourly. It’s not like they leave a guard behind when they fight.
“Red Hood. Did you hear that?”
Jason snapped his head back and levelled his most threatening glare at Nightwing. The idiot puffed his chest out and gazed at him like he thought he was actually intimidating.
 “Yes.” He gritted his teeth and forced out the next words; “thank you.”
Batman - you poor excuse for a father mentor, Jason thought bitterly - motioned for everyone to exit his cell and they left without a backwards glance. That self-righteous Bat, the lapdog golden boy and the rest of his fantastic five crew including his replacement left- how humiliating low, to be replaced and then judged, in every sense of the word, by both my brothers him, while he stood in a cell that only had a toilet, sink and bed - with that absolute bitch of a magician. When everybody had left, the door of the enclosed witness area clicked shut, the scrape of a lock echoing soon after. Jason’s head fell back against the wall as he let his breath out explosively.
 “Anyway,” Zatanna had said, glancing meaningfully at Batman, “I can definitely block the Lazarus madness, but seeing as he is a criminal I think we should add a few rules to the spell.”
 Of course, their pet magician would insist on a few more rules being thrown in; Jason would lose the ability to kill, there was a ‘code phrase’ to make him do whatever they say (paranoid old bat and his lousy replacement) and Jason would hold the spell up with his own energy stores, making him tired easily. Lap dog or Rabid beast. Jason grimaced, closing his eyes to stop the burning sensation just behind them. Doomed if I do, doomed if I don’t, he thought grimly. A flash of purple light had his eyes snapping open in shock as a figure with an armload of objects materialised in the shadows of his room. Jason tried not to stare as the residual smoke revealed the objects to be a shiny diadem, an old - and well preserved, he noted approvingly - tome as well as a few bottles of what seemed to be softly glowing…somethings.
 “Hey there, lucky little ravenclaw. You coming out? What's up your ass?” He inquired tiredly.The figure - Raven, he remembered- looks like a literal shadow, clad in a deep blue cloak that seemed to suck at the very light around her until she was little more than a barely discernible silhouette against the dark walls. All the same, the way she carried herself made him think of a sorceress or queen of old from the books he used to read. Heck, maybe even a goddess, like she’s saying ‘I have made a decision, and nothing you say or do will stop me’. Like she wasn’t thinking about how much care that book deserved or whether she should consider giving it away.“I’ve made a decision,” She answered in a low, musical voice. “And nothing you say or do will stop me.” Well. That was serendipitous. “I’ve thought about what Batman wants Zatanna to do to you, and…” Raven hesitated. “I don’t think that this is right.”
 Dully, Jason wondered if she would ever gain the courage to do more than just voice her disapproval with Batman’s methods. If any of these ‘heroes’ would. Probably not; there must have been a reason she worked here, after all.
“I’m willing to offer you an alternative solution; I can cast a spell on you instead.” Her words were delivered with complete certainty, taking an subtle breath and squaring her shoulders afterward. Pure unadulterated rage sprang to life within his veins. Jason’s face rearranged itself into a truly ugly, fearsome expression, his muscles tensing in preparation for a fight.
“So, what? You’re just going to put your own spell on me before she does?” Jason spat bitterly.
“No. I’m going to -”
“I’m not going to be your slave, or anyone else’s, for that matter. You can tell Zatanna that, too.”
“I don’t want you to be my slave. I want you to pick and choose the words of the spell that will seal the Lazarus away, so I can, with your consent, cast that specific spell on you.”
Jason’s eyebrows decided to try defying gravity to fly into his hair. After a startled second, he barked out a laugh. He crowded the female titan against the wall and glared down at her, clenching his hands. To his annoyance, she seemed apathetic to the point of boredom.
 “Give me a break, sunshine. In what universe would the golden boy -”
“Don’t call him that.”
“The Bat’s loyal bitch-”
“Language.”
 “-ever send you to free me without stipulations?”
“As far as I know, none. Which is why I am here of my own volition, without his knowledge.”
Raven swept passed him and laid her belongings on the bed. Jason’s eyebrows held an unanimous meeting and promptly decided to retry their earlier flight. “What?”
Raven paused her idle flipping of her book to spare a dry glance at him. “Are you hard of hearing, Jay-son?” she carefully enunciated.  Jason scowled.
”Forgive my surprise, oh smart one. I’m just surprised you of all people would go against his back. You aren’t ruled by your emotions, and you always do what your leader says -”  Raven twirled around to face him suddenly, something flickering in her eyes, gone before he could decipher it.
“I don’t do what Nightwing tells me to do. I do what I think is right.” she corrected, a hint of soft rebuke in her tone. She resumed her flipping of the books pages until she reached her goal and moved on to sort the eerily glowing crystal bottles.
“And helping a convicted criminal is part of your moral obligation, is it?”  Jason slouched against the wall, raising his hands incredulously.
“Helping anyone and everyone who truly needs it is a part of my moral obligation.” Raven declared proudly without hesitation. Was this girl serious? One look at her face and Jason knew she clearly was. “I understand you heroes think all killers were beyond redemption.” He commented with wry amusement.“You shouldn’t stereotype.” She said coolly, “Or tell your assumptions to a hero, who happens to be a demon.” Jason paused, mulling that revelation over. It was common knowledge among those who fought in the same circles as him that Raven’s magic was uncommon. Several unscrupulous magic users he talked to had fearfully claimed that her energy was ‘demonic’. Jason silently apologised for rolling his eyes or dismissing these accounts as fanciful or exaggerations and resolved to buy any of them drinks if he happened to see them again. “Besides, it’s usually unwise to be so presumptuous of a person you desperately need help from.” “What makes you say that?” He parried defensively, scratching his chin. “For all you know, I could have broken out and found another gullible magician to give me a few potions or something.”
 “But you won’t. You’ve already tried, and none of them were powerful enough.” She supplied bluntly. “I..” She looked away, almost shamefaced, “I felt it.”
 She… what? Ah. Right. Empath, he suddenly recalled, wincing. He was good at concealing his facial expressions, but nothing could have masked the sheer desperation he felt when he showed up at their door. Merde. He must have looked like such a fool for trying to seem like he didn’t need her help.
  “I’m not trying to control you, Jason. The book is a dictionary; you can pick and choose the words you want me in the spell and I’ll perform it.” Her soft, persuasive tone urged him to believe her.
“Why should I believe you?” Jason snarled, lashing out with a feeling of vicious satisfaction upon seeing her take a step back. “What if this is one of Nightwing’s tricks to rummage around my head gathering intel?”
”I will not enter your mind - that’s not necessary at all in this circumstance - and if I do, you can easily overpower me while I am in a trance.”
“What use would that be? Then we’d both be in here, and I can add resisting arrest to my list of crimes.”
Raven looked like she was having difficulty stopping herself from rolling her eyes. She waved her hand, magically unlocking the cell door.  “Are you always this paranoid?”
“No. Just when I’m in the headquarters of sworn enemies and about to be magically lobotomized within twenty-four hours - not to be rude, but at least a third of your colleagues have tried to send me to Arkham asylum.” Jason reminded her flatly, crossing his arms.
“Exactly! What do you have to lose!?”
“My life. Also, I’m doing fine. I could easily break out of here if I wanted too.” Raven looked pointedly at her spell book, exaggeratedly feigning patience. Jason’s lips twitched, satisfied. Annoying her was fun.
“Although I appreciate your sense of derring-do, I really must insist I block the madness trying to make you go on a killing spree before you leave.”
“While telling Nightwing all the extra little details you’ll happen to hear while we talk, huh?” Jason’s eyes bored into her, suddenly agate-hard. It really isn’t fair, he thought suddenly, that Raven could so easily try to deceive me like this. Life wasn’t fair. Jason knew this, and didn’t understand why he felt like crying right now. It must have been the stress. Or the Lazarus pit. It certainly couldn’t be anything else, since he’d been lied to so many times before and he’d generally been unbothered. In fact, he had started expecting certain people to lie about being on his side and had taken to wearing a doubly reinforced Kevlar suit. It had saved him from knives in the back - literally - more than a few times. The bruises still hurt like a motherfucker, though. Raven slowly took out her communicator - and slid it towards him.
 “There. Now I can’t contact him in any way. Is that all?” He bent down and slowly picked it up. Jason thought about it for some time. He disliked any kind of spell on him, especially spells that would be permanent and affected his mind, however positive the effect might be. All the same though, it was necessary and Raven was giving him as much freedom that he could want. Something akin to grudging respect; or gratitude welled within him.
“Fine.” he complied gruffly, resisting the stupid urge to thank her. “I just have to pick out words in this book, right?”
 He strode over to the tiny cot and picked it up, carefully not taking his eyes off her nor touching the freaky looking vials. “What’s the language - oh, right, English is this half of the page. Okay, this should be easy enou- no. Stay where you are. I don’t want you to move while I’m reading this book.” She threw him an exasperated look and disregarded his command, sitting beside him and leaning against the headboard.
 “Of course, Jason. Would you like me to hold your hand?” she asked sardonically. “That should be reassuring enough, shouldn’t it?”
  Jason ignored that, trying to concentrate on being irritated with her instead of the thought of his hands, warming and covering her tiny ones. He cleared his throat and tapped several words in quick succession to distract himself. “Would those words work?”
Raven, he learned, had a incredibly wide vocabulary and impressive command of tone. She could add inflections that added entire volumes of meaning of her words. On the whole, though, he would have preferred a less exhaustive running commentary of the kind of gruesome implications his miswording could cause. In retrospect, he realized that he should have chosen to ‘block’ the madness, instead of ‘concentrating’ it in his head, but Raven took great pleasure in describing the resulting explosion that would cause. Raven went on to describe - very unnecessarily in his opinion, the other various failings that would stop his heart, give him wings on the sides of his heads and cause his face to erupt in highly painful tentacles in glowing terms with apparent relish, never mind that any one of them was good enough reason to reword the spell. Raven tended to overdramatise certain things, he noticed. Especially things that would result in giving him a terminal injury, which, ha, he was sure wouldn’t be permanent this time over, either, especially if the Lazarus was still in his system. He said as such to Raven, who promptly whacked him over the head with her book - ow, it was heavier than she made it look - and told him to “focus, you leather-skulled domnoddy.”
“You aren’t afraid of me? I’m apparently a very unhinged serial killer, after all.” Jason grumbled half-curiously, rubbing his complaining skull.
“I could ask the same of you. I’ve never met someone who was so calm upon learning about my heritage. I’m practically a descendant of lucifer.”
That- That was something he had not considered. “If the account given in Genesis is really true, ought we not, after all, to thank this serpent? He was the first schoolmaster, the first advocate of learning, the first enemy of ignorance, the first to whisper in human ears the sacred word liberty, the creator of ambition, the author of modesty, of inquiry, of doubt, of investigation, of progress and of civilization.” Jason quoted, shrugging.
“Well said.” Raven said after a pause.
“I’m afraid I can’t take credit - a quote by Robert Green Ingersole. I’m more than willing to share his belief when it comes to you, though.”
“That’s kind of you. Although, I think you give the serpent too much credit. I like to think we would have eaten the apple eventually anyway.”
 ‘We’ he mouthed. Not ‘you’. Interesting. “I can’t tell if your view is cynical or optimistic, little birdie.”
“Optimistic. I like the thought that we’re curious enough to try to better ourselves, no matter how flawless we may be.”
“Hypothetically, could it be said that the humans were truly flawless before they ate the apple?”
“No. If they were flawless, their faith would have made them invulnerable to tempting. Besides, their children became the first murderer and victim of the world; seeing as how humans learn from their parents, they couldn’t have been close to flawless.” Raven countered.
“Fair enough. If neither of us can accept that eating the apple was evil, and that faith isn’t our greatest strength, what is?”
“Perception. Just because one person sees it differently doesn’t mean either is wrong. It’s what makes us human and helps us advance - If Eden’s humans were perfect, it must have been a pretty bland place.” Raven smiled shyly, - cute - like what she just said had a special meaning for her. “And if you define perception as a type of knowledge, then it was gained by eating the apple.” Jason stared at her, a little in awe. His debating skills had been blunted by his lack of intelligent company since Alfred, but he had enough wits to recognise a superior orator. “You’re delightfully witty, little bird.” He complimented. There was a lull in conversation while she focused on reading the spell. Idly, he wondered if she was avoiding his eyes. He wasn’t entirely sure if that meant he’d made her flustered (of course, he would want to make any girl flustered, Jason thought, consciously not questioning if that was true). “Thank you. This wording ought to do it.”  Raven withdrew a rod from within her cloak, upon which closer inspection revealed a point easily as sharp as a dagger. Jason felt the blood rush from his face and stumbled away from her, falling off the cot and sending one of the vials flying, shattering on impact with the wall next to the cot. Raven jumped and refocused her eyes on Jason, befuddled. After a awkward pause, in which Jason remained frozen with consternation half on and half off the bed, acutely aware of the foul-smelling concoction dripping onto the cot, Raven coughed, folding her sleeve over her nose and gingerly edging away from the liquid.
“Jason.” She scolded nasally, “I need to draw some symbols on your skin before I can cast the spell on you.”
“No way.” He refused flatly, surreptitiously putting the cot between them. “The last person to approach me with a piece of metal that big killed me and I’m not letting you inscribe stuff into my skin.”
“First on all, if you want to recover from that trauma, I know a couple of therapists who won’t care about your alter ego. I can accompany you if you really want help.” She spoke haltingly, turning away to dip her instrument in one of the vials while a curtain of hair shielded her expression.Jason’s snapped to hers in astonishment. That was not the response he was expecting. Truthfully, he didn’t know what he was expecting, but it was most certainly not that. “Secondly, I would never kill you, ever! If you can’t go with me, don’t you have someone else to accompany you to therapy?” Raven looked at him, fire sparking in her plum eyes. Jason sat back down on the cot and put his interlocked hands behind his head. “You saw how Bruce looked at me, little birdie. I don’t trust my brothers one bit with this and the one person who might go with me is back at the old Batman HQ. I can’t exactly pop in and ask him to come to therapy with me; god, what would he think anyway?” Jason scoffed, too jaded for tears.
“I believe you.” Raven admitted quietly. She sighed, her exhale sounding like branches rattling in the wind and Jason suddenly remembered Catherine, tired, Catherine, jaded, Catherine, with a sigh like branches rattling in the wind and a will like a dying ember. Jason frowned. That sound was far, far too tired to match one so courageous and lovely as her. If it was up to me, she’d never make that sound again. He thought firmly.
“You don’t belong there anymore; I know what that’s like.” Raven looked even more tired then, not angry, just… sad. Her eyes looked old. Her lashes fluttered, as though just keeping them upright was causing her effort, and Jason had a strange impulse to wipe that look of her face. “But.” Raven straightened, Jason mirroring her, and suddenly the formidable titan was back. “That doesn’t mean you have to cut off contact with that person. Dick’s told me about him - his name is Alfred, right? If what Dick has said about him was true, then you should write to him - he’s been worrying about you.” Jason looked down, wishing he’d had the foresight to smuggle in a cigarette with him.
“He wouldn’t welcome my letters, little bird.”
“Yes, he would! You’re so smart,” she protested. “How can someone as smart as you not see that!”
Jason felt the tips of his ears glow in an odd kind of embarrassed pride.“Alright. I’ll try.” He coughed, feeling foolish. Raven looked oddly proud, her eyes more tender than Jason felt was appropriate.
“Try to write about something you love or admire. It’ll be easier that way,” she advised, placing her rod - which emanated an uncomfortable burning sensation - directly over his heart. Jason tried not to flinch unsuccessfully. “What is that?”
“A toothpick of a giant.” Raven replied nonchalantly, focusing on her work. Jason blinked. “How?” He was unable to articulate further than that, but Raven must have gleaned what he was asking through his gobsmacked expression. After quelling a fit of laughter with a snort, Raven explained, ”We were sucked into another dimensions on one of our missions. Nightwing, in his infinite wisdom, took one look at the sleeping 30ft giant and decided to punch it in the nose, and then got us both sucked in it’s left nostril when it snorted.” Jason cackled wildly. Raven shook her head jokingly, smiling at him. “Honestly, if we hadn’t acquired such a valuable tool climbing out of it’s mouth -” Raven punctured her tale of woe with a horrified shudder, to Jason’s renewed cackles growing ever-louder. “I think I would have left him there when we managed to teleport back here.”
“So it was like a series of unfortunate events, huh?” Jason lilted flippantly. Raven swatted at him mock irritably, but he could see the hint of a grin on her face before she composed herself. Why did she do that? Jason immediately began running through his repertoire of book references for something that might bring that beautiful smile back. Woah. Beautiful smile? He questioned himself, mentally shooing away from that thought. Bad thought. Go back to wherever you came from, because you certainly did not come from The Red Hood’s esteemed intellect. Jason cleared his throat, his palms unreasonably sweaty for some reason and almost dropped the book he remembered he was still holding at the last minute. “Aren’t you afraid of Nightwing catching you red handed?”
Raven’s eyes dropped to the whitewashed floor. “No,” she uttered softly. “He’s much too busy fighting with Starfire right now to worry about anything else”. Raven met his gaze with a pained smile, her eyes soft with sadness. Jason’s stomach twisted nauseatingly and he suddenly regretted his question.
“Trouble in paradise?” he joked feebly, raising an eyebrow. He wanted to take back the words as soon as he said them. “Something like that.” Raven crossed her arms and blinked away any emotions that had been present in her gaze. No, no, dammit! Look what you did, he snarled inwardly, you made her close up!
 “Starfire’s people are traditionally polyamorous but Dick-Nightwing refuses to talk to her about any options or - well, anything outside of work, now.”
  Her words, although sudden, were unusually soft and tired compared to their earlier banter. Jason jolted up to look at Raven, who had apparently taken his silence for an inquiry.
“Uncommunicative as ever when it comes to love, those bats, I see. ah, lord, what fools these mortals be.” he blurted impulsively, wincing inwardly. Raven threw her head and her hood back - she has such lovely plump cherry lips!  - and laughed. Her laugh was deep, and husky, he noted absently, as it quieted to infectious chuckles, and quite possibly the warmest thing he had ever heard in his life. Somehow managing to be on the quiet side, yet filling the room with her vibrant presence until he felt like he could hardly breathe. “Nobody who loves is a complete fool, and if it indeed foolishness, then it is divine folly.” She teased playfully, the tiredness in her voice vanishing like mist on a hot day, the corners of her mouth still twitching. Jason let out the breath he had been holding, a chuckle of his own beginning to rumble in his throat as he leaned back on the small cot.
Jason reached for a flask among the glowing vials, to find Raven curling protectively over it, calling it her Assam; her favourite tea. He had to release a few more chuckles upon seeing her so passionate of her tea - she’d get along well with someone he knows. After that, however, the tension surrounding them eased into something easy and almost familiar, almost distracting him from the complicated patters Raven was twirling over his bare chest.
 “Do this often, little bird? Only artists like painters normally have this level of precision.” He commented.
“I don’t just do it for other spells.” She admitted reluctantly. “I make art of all kinds.” Jason tilted his head, curious. “I use paint to draw murals, I draw the stories I read about, and I draw the plants and animals I’ve seen from other, um, other-” She elaborated eagerly. Her eyes sparkled and she tossed her head, displaying a burst of passion Jason found himself unable to look away from. “Places?” He offered.
 “Planets.” She finished wryly. “And sometimes dimensions, too.” She frowned, studying him closely. “Hold still. I need to kiss this seal in order for the spell to activate.”  Without waiting for his reply, Raven swooped down and planted a light, soft kiss on her glyphs, which began to glow with the same light her vials had. Jason started, lowering his hand from behind his back to touch the place she had kissed him - and whacked her soundly on the nose as she looked up. “Ow!” Raven slid in his lap.
 “Sorry! Sorry!” Jason yelped. “Are you okay, little birdie? Oh, god, I haven’t broken anything, have I? Deep breaths, Deep breaths. Should I call an ambulance - do you even have a doctor in this place?!”
Jason’s arms fluttered uselessly around her as she pressed against the bridge of her nose gingerly.
“I’m good.” She winced. “I have healing powers.”
 Jason felt unbearably awkward. Would turning himself into the bat end the feeling of wanting to climb under the cot and never come out? Jason wasn’t sure, but he seriously considered it for a few, long silence filled minutes. Raven exhaled heavily, her breath touching his neck, and Jason suddenly became excruciatingly aware of their position. His heart kept banging against his chest like it was trying to reach her. Jason could have counted every single one of her eyelashes. Her brow creased. Oh, god. She could hear his heartbeats, couldn’t she? Geez, had they always been this loud? Ugh. Jason felt like he could die of embarrassment. Raven cleared her throat and gracefully stood up on the cot, moving around him to inspect the mess on the wall. Always so graceful. Jason stood up hurriedly and turned to face her back, rubbing his neck.
“The spell is complete; the pit’s madness will never affect you again. If you want, you can leave; There isn’t anything very interesting to do now,” she murmured, almost apologetically, beginning to clean the stain away with magic.
“Why would I? As if you could ever be boring.” he said reproachfully.She blushed, which shot a thrill up his spine that manifested in what must have been a thoroughly dopey smile on his face. God. What was she doing to him? Jason wondered. Whatever it was, it made his chest feel confused and happy and tight and yearning at the same time, so he pushed the feeling down and forced himself to smirk.“What is that, by the way? You didn’t use it, did you? That looks nasty.” Jason cringed as another drop of the mystery liquid reached his bedding.
“No, I didn’t. You didn’t choose any of the words that required it. It’s human blood.” Raven explained absently, rolling his eyes, at his disgusted expression.
“It was one of the men we were too late to save - he tried saving another man who had been framed who was imprisoned in his kingdom’s palace dungeons.”
“He was idealistic for trying to save someone in the government’s headquarters” Jason decreed firmly. Raven gave him an amused look. Damn, she was way too perceptive for her own good.
“Or perhaps he was honourable to not condemn the prisoner to an unjust fate.” She lilted, almost playfully. Did she just flutter her eyelashes at me?
“You know what I‘m implying. If robin figures out you did this, he could kick you out, little bird. I’d be happy to host you as a selfless citizen, myself, though.” Jason brightened, not at all selflessly.
“That’s a chance I’m willing to take. You should not have to suffer for his need to micromanage everything related to the Titans. Besides, he’s so emotionally stunted he’d never punish me in a way I can’t see him gloat over my misery.” Raven retorted pertly. Jason tried to choke back a cackle, staring at her incredulously. He ended up making what he imagined to be the sound a dog toy made when it broke, which was why he tried to stop imagining and change the subject. Did she really just say that? “And if he puts you in this cell?”
“I’ll tell him to stop sulking like a spoilt brat. He always looks like he needs to take a shit.”
 Jason struggled to control the tide of snickers pouring out of him. Okay, he decided, she wasn’t just witty, she was hilarious.
 “He probably won’t try anything too painful, with you long gone and I being as valuable as I am - oh!” Raven slipped off the bed, into Jason’s instinctive embrace. Sudden, burning fury roared within him, the type that threatened to lash out if provoked.
 “And if he tries to hurt you like a spoilt child, I’ll cut off his cock and nail it to a sewer wall somewhere until he remembers his manners.” Jason growled fiercely.  She stared at him from their close proximity, the laidback energy between them tightening and fraying with tension. Jason fidgeted, realising how protective that statement had sounded. What was she doing to him?
“Since you’ve been so good to me, and all.” He added hastily.
“That’s gross, Jason.” She said, relaxing in his arms - too close, too fucking close, her back was curving against his arm - and he set her down carefully, supressing a shudder. Jason’s eyes widened.
“Here!” He thrust her communicator back at her. She glanced at it, surprised, as if she had forgotten about it too. When she reached to take it, Jason impulsively clasped her hands with his other fingers.
“Would…” Jason licked his lips, steeling himself, noting how raven’s eyes traced where his tongue had been and drawing strength from it.
 “Would you like to come to dinner with me?” he waited, breathless.
“I’d like that…”
 She squeezed her eyes shut, and tensed her shoulders like she expected Jason to reprimand her or make her feel guilty.
 “What convinced you?” he asked, curiously. She looked up in surprise and blessed him with a gentle smile. Jason found it oddly adorable.
“I hadn’t realized what a charmer you were.” she drawled.
 Jason blushed furiously and rubbed his neck, glancing at Raven, who seemed to be more amused by the second.
“So, where should we meet? Your place? You don't exactly have a secret to keep, now.” She pointed out. Jason guilty thought of the red x costume in his condo.
“I do have a secret, actually.”
“I'm sure it must be simply dreadful.” Raven said placidly, reclining on the cot.  Jason thought about the way she hadn’t hesitated to help him regardless of what her leader said. He thought about the look she’d given him when he had told her about not being able to go home. He thought about how she looked when he’d said he would write to Alfred. He swallowed and cradled her cheeks. If he was feeling particularly brave when remembering this later, he might have thought that she had nuzzled into the cradle of his hands.
“It might be, honestly. I can’t tell how you’ll see it as. But if you come to my condo next week, I promise I’ll tell you everything.” he whispered hoarsely - apologetically - in her ear.
 “Everything?” Raven echoed. There was an unspoken question in her eyes, and Jason wanted nothing more than to take her in his arms and rock away the doubt in her eyes until she felt secure again. He settled for wetting his lips. Later, he reminded himself. Later. “Yeah, Little Bird. Everything you want, okay?”
“Okay. Thank you. In our world, telling me your information means a lot.” She looked at him with growing respect and a touch of admiration in her eyes. “That must have taken a lot of courage.”Jason smiled at her. What a weird person. What a weird demon. She was simply wonderful, he decided. Absolutely wonderful. Jason stared into her amethyst shining with hope, and privately managed to gather enough thought to decide on writing to Alfred about her. He thinks that he’ll write that his lady (if it would not be presumptuous to call her that) is unapologetic when breaking rules, brutally honest, a real demon but that she paints for fun, is loyal to her ethics first and foremost, keeps her books in pristine condition, a true hero yet a gentle soul and would look terribly, terribly breathtaking if he can convince her to wear a flower crown and get her eyes to sparkle like they were again.
Ripping his eyes away from her reluctantly, he backed out of the door and looked back - to see a flash of purple smoke. Of course! He felt like hitting his temple with the palm of his hand. She has magic; she could have left or alerted Nightwing at any time without his knowledge! For some odd, indecipherable reason, this revelation caused him to break out in bouts of uncontrollable snickers as he jumped out the closest window.  He decided to add Assam tea to his shopping list.
 Epilogue.
“Little Bird.” Raven spared a questioning glance at her - their - bed’s other occupant, who winked at her and waved lazily. Raven pursed her lips and aimed her gaze back at the novel in her hands, stifling a yawn. “It’s time to sleep.”
“One more chapter.”
“Mon petit oiseau, you know I adore a good book as much as you do. But I adore our bedtime ritual even more, love. Haven’t you finished that tea yet anyway?”
“Almost.” She turned a page and cradled her mug with both hands, draining it.“Awesome.” Jason stole a languid kiss to distract her as he plucked her book out of her hands and set it down on his bedside table.
“Mmm- Jason!” Raven protested weakly. He grinned at her and palmed her hips slowly. “What is it, darling? You know neither of us can sleep properly unless you do your ritual.” It had started about a year into their relationship, after a particularly bad nightmare. She set down her cup down with a mellifluous rap and squirmed to straddle his lap. Jason quickly draped a blanket around her shoulders and held her in a warm embrace. He'd quickly learned that she would get cold very easily and took full advantage of this fact to shamelessly encourage her to press every inch of herself against him whenever she was cold. Privately, Jason thanked whoever was up there that she hadn't caught him turning their 'broken' heater off yet. Raven exhaled as her fingers slowly caressed his face. Starting with his jawline, pressing kisses to his temple, lingering below his ears - he had to focus on not keening when she suckled beneath his earlobe -then combing his explosion of hair back, her dainty fingers travelling lower to his temples.
Three years onward and she still did this ritual every night, he thought fondly. “You have wrinkles”. she breathed abruptly. Wrinkles? On his gorgeous face? Jason thought. Oh, hell no. They were not wrinkles. They were the bags beneath his eyes. A few good nights sleep with his Raven and it’d clear right up. If not, the wrinkles had better pray for nothing more than skin lotion.
“Where?” Jason demanded indignantly. Raven touched the corners of this eyes gently, her eyes glowing tenderly.
“Did you know”, she began conversationally, “that there is one smile that cannot be replicated unless you are happy? It’s the only smile that includes the eyes - that’s where the saying ‘smiling eyes’ comes from.”
 Jason sat back, wondering where the hell she was going with this, but happy to let her talk for as long as she wanted.
“If you smile that smile enough, well” she shrugged, tapping his wrinkles. “You must have been smiling a lot for some reason.”
 “I wonder why,” Jason quipped, looking at her dimpling mouth hintingly. Raven let another of her low chuckles escape, curving her mouth invitingly - success! Jason rejoiced, part delightedly, part triumphantly -  and leaned forward and brushed her lips against his - alright, fine - wrinkles then teasingly nibbling his lips before withdrawing, smirking impishly and batting her eyelashes coyly. Jason growled as she licked her lips deliberately. “I’m glad you’ve been smiling more,” she whispered earnestly, the look in her eyes taking Jason's breath away. He softened and swooped to capture her lips in a kiss that made her head spin and forced a swoon out of her mouth.
Jason wondered how she’d react to the information of her own acquired stunning wrinkles. Better not tell her, he decided lovingly, before Raven purred his name in his ear and he lost all coherent thought.
Thrown into it
Part: 1,2,3,4,5, 6
Part 7- Congrats! You’re living with the protagonist!
We parked in front of a concrete wall, a green sign of characters being the only thing contrasting its pale grey color. A sudden urge of pain makes its way up my spine and to my head, making me grab my hair and inhale sharply. “Hey? Kid you okay?” I hear Mic ask. My eyes water, making me blink a few times. “Y/n? Do we need to go back to the hospital?” Nezu questions. Is that concern I hear? I open my eyes. The head splitting pain fades as I look up at Nezu. “No..no I’m fine..” Where did that come from? Woods turns back in his seat. “Are you sure?” I looked to him only to see something was different. “T-that.. The sign!” I pointed to the green sign in front of us. It was perfect english. “I-I-”
“Yeah.. parking for thirty minutes. So what?” Snipe questioned. “I-I-I couldn’t read that a moment ago..” Nezu observes me while Snipes brings up something I didn't even notice before. “But you speak perfect Japanese.” My eyes widen. “Wait what?” I questioned. Was it just me or was the world spinning a bit? Snipe laughs whole heartedly while Woods stares at Nezu with a look that screams ‘Are they fucking serious?’
Mic keeps himself composed as he lowers his shades. “What do you think we were speaking? English?” I inhale. What is this tom-fuckery? “Call me crazy, but.. yeah..?”
The group glances at each other. Snipe and Woods just plain confused while Nezu and Mic seemed to be talking telepathically. “Look I know it sounds stupid but. It’s just true. I know better than to lie to heroes.” Mic glances back at me and speaks in something that sounds like gibberish. “Scus?” I mumble just before the pain I felt when I glanced at the sign returns. A groan comes out of my mouth as I hold my head in my hands. My eyes screw shut from the pain. I feel someone touch my shoulder but I shake them away at the pain. “What the fuck..?”
“Y/n? Y/n?” I hear Mic ask. First calm, but by the second time more concerned than anything. “Screw it, we need to take em back to the hospital.” I hear Woods groan. “N-no! I-I’m fine.” I gasp. The pain gives way to a newfound lightheadedness. Everything feels a bit fuzzy for a few moments, but with every blink my body returns to normality. I exhale. “I..- I- I’m fine. I’m sorry.. I- I don't know what came over me..” I mumble over myself. “Y/n? Do you understand me?” Mic asks slowly. I hum and nod. “Mind telling me what happened?” I blink away a sudden feeling of tiredness to attempt to explain. “You said.. Something in alien speak, my head started to hurt, and then it disappeared as soon as it came..” Mic nods silently. “Do you know what language we are speaking in now?” He looks over his shades to me. “Japanese..? Like before? Even though it sounds english?” Mic looks over to Nezu. “She thinks we’re speaking Japanese still.” Nezu puts a paw under his enormous, triangular head. “Interesting..” Woods turns back in his seat quickly. “I haven’t seen a quirk like this before! I mean- I’ve seen hyper intelligence- but it takes people like that at least a hour to know a language front to back..” Nezu chuckles while shaking his head. “There has to be drawbacks to this quirk.” Snipe comments. “If not then that thing is damn powerful. Imagine the uses.. Infiltration and undercover work would be easy.” Mic punches Snipe’s shoulder with a look of disgust. “That is a child! The hell is wrong with you!” Mic yells seriously. The older of the two yelps from his seat while waving his arms around. Damn the roles have reversed. “What! I’m just saying! And besides, I’m not saying we should actually do it! That's twisted!”  I try to hold back a smile but Nezu notices me. Mission failed, we’ll get em next time. “Anything funny about this situation?” He prompts. “Your staff is full of brilliant idiots.” I admit lightly. “Absolute, bloody, brilliant, idiots. And god do I love them.”
The once arguing trio turns to me with a shocked look. “Hey you can understand us?!” Woods, Mic, and Snipes yell defensively, making me laugh even harder. Nezu glances between all of us with a smile. He probably would have let this go on. “We better hurry or else the Midorya’s will be concerned.” He prompts. We all take a moment to look at each other before following Nezu’s request. I tried to keep it cool but that kind of backfired when I saw the apartment complex that Izuku and Inko lived in. I blinked a few times and rubbed my eyes. I’m actually going to be living with the main character. I must be a Mary sue. Someone pinch me. I might just make the world implode with a sneeze. “Ey little listener!” Mic called from the front gates. “Are you just gonna let the world pass you by all the time or are you gonna move?” His tone gave off a subtle hint of annoyance but he was patient all the same with me. “S-Sorry! Just.. Never seen a building this tall before y'know?” Okay so that was a lie, but he seemed to believe it. “You from the country or something?” I nod nervously and walk to the group. “You could say that.” He hums along with my response. Soon enough we meet up with the group.
“Snipe, Mr. Woods? Do you mind giving myself, Y/n, and Present Mic a moment please?” Woods crosses his arms as if he was about to say something but Snipes beats him to the punch. “Sure. Cmon Woods. I need to talk to you about something.” Snipe grabs Kamui’s arm and drags him ahead by a few meters. I chuckle at his over dramatic struggling and complaints. I fucking love anime. “Now then, L/n,” Nezu pulls two envelopes from his pants pocket, both of which were twice the size of his paw. One of them was a crisp, pure white with the UA emblem on it. The other was more yellow, old, and is slightly wrinkled. “Aniken, should I take the white or the yellow pill?”
“What?” Mic asks with utmost confusion, followed by Nezu with a matching look. I tried to brush off my weirdness with an equally confused “What?” Thank god they didn’t question it. Instead giving me a strange look. Nezu took initiative and moved on from my absurdity. “One of them is your schedule, the other is information you must give to Mrs. Midoriya. State that it’s from your parents.” I look between the envelopes and nod. “What about my uniform? School supplies? I’m.. not really made of cash y'know?” Mic smiles slightly. “Oh we know. The government’s got you covered on that.” He gives an enthusiastic thumbs up. I look to Nezu. “So I’m a charity case?” Nezu shrugs. “Essentially.” Damn Nezu. Blunt much?
Mic chuckles awkwardly at Nezu roasting me alive. “At least until you're twenty. But that’s a worse case scenario. The government is actively trying to find ways to get you back home.” I smile a little at the thought. Back at home this would make one hell of a dream. Maybe even fanfiction if I remember all this. And not get writer's block of course. “Okay.. When do I start?” I ask. Nezu picks back up on the conversation. “The day after tomorrow should be suitable for you, yes?” I take a moment to narrow my eyes. “What’s the catch? I know I have to do work in order to catch up to my peers. The finest hero school in Japan doesn’t let in just anyone.” Mic covers his obvious smile with his mouth. “OOOooo! She knows her stuff.” Nezu smirks. “Indeed. You will need to catch up. So I’ll give you two weeks to finish all the work. Then you can officially start. Think that’s enough time Mic?” The smaller of the two asks. Mic nods “Oh yeah! Plenty of time for this little listener!” I can't help but smile at that. I feel like I’m going on a pokemon journey. “Thanks for believing in me. Not a lot of people do.” I admit. He dramatically gasps “Well that's a damn shame! You’re gonna be great kid. Besides, you have me as an english teacher, and with that quirk of yours you’re definitely gonna get straight A’s for sure.” I look over to Nezu to see his phone suddenly buzzing. He quickly takes a moment to answer it before hanging up on the caller. “I’m sorry to end the moment, but Snipe has reminded me that we are on a time crunch. It is a school night after all.” A long groan echoed through the lot of the complex, making me chuckle.“Oof- yeah you’re right.” The blonde agreed. “I got tests to grade and a lesson to finalize.”  And with that, the three of us began to make our way to complex 2, third floor. As the light breeze ushered us to our destination my mind went back to the idea of staying with Izuku. Should I tell him what I know? He deserves to know. But what would be the repercussions of my actions? Him knowing that he will be the number one hero can change so many things. It could go to his head like Bakugou and complements. He could back out from the pressure. Fuck I cant do it. Too many factors. Maybe Mirio? I could warn him about what happens in season four. Maybe then he could follow his dream, maybe he’ll be the number one hero then. But not now.. I don't know where we are in the story. I know after the sport’s festival, but is Stain still out and about? Has the exchange between Shoto, Izuku, and Tenya already happened?
Instead of a pleasant nudge to get me out of my thoughts, this time it was a jab to the elbow. “Ow!” I look around to see Snipe glaring at me and motioning to the door in front of us. In the doorway was Inko! She had a bright pink apron, her signature skirt and shirt- ah she’s so tiny! She chuckles. “I-I’m so sorry! Bad habit!” I hug myself tightly. “I-I’m trying to break it-'' She shushes me from my rambling with a wave of her hand. “It’s completely fine! My son has the same habit. I think you two will get along well.” Her kind smile warms me a little. “Mrs. Midorya, do you have the paperwork we gave you?” Mic asks politely. “Oh! Oh yes! Come on in let me make you some tea! The work is around here somewhere!” Inko scampers from the door frame and into the apartment. I didn't hesitate to follow her inside. While I was taking my shoes off I couldn't help but notice how lovely the inside was. The apartment looked exactly like it did in the anime all the way down to the T. It was so welcoming and homey. Almost like Christmas but without the decorations. I was planted in the living room when the hero’s finally came in. From what I assume was Inko’s room, she called. “Make yourself at home! I'll get the kettle on soon!” I look over into the comfy living room before glancing over at the adults. “We’re sorry ma’am but we can't stay for long.” Nezu responds just as Inko appears again. “Oh, well if that's the case, will you at least take something with you! You all help Izuku so much and you work so hard as is!” I see her eyes glance over to the kitchen. “I have cupcakes?” I turn to her. “Cupcakes?” My stomach rumbles at the sound of sweets. She giggles “Yes. I didn’t know what flavor you would like so I made chocolate and vanilla. I hope that's alright?” I point to her like a child. “Are you sure I’m staying with her? She’s too good!” Inko chuckles at my truth. “Don't flatter me, I’m nothing special. You go and take one. They’re over on the counter hun.” She called me hun! I’m weak! I clench my heart and shake in my spot. “The world doesn't deserve you!” I say before bolting it to the kitchen.
After I grab a cupcake I watch from the counter as the grownups talk. Munching through their attempt at hush talk. “Are you sure you’re okay with this ma’am? We do have other applicants.” Snipe starts. “Oh no, it’s fine! Besides, I need some more pep in my step! These old bones need some movement!” She assures with a wave of her hand. “You don't look at day over twenty Mrs. Midoriya!” I call. The group turns to me, Inko’s face a light pink in embarrassment. At least she has a smile on her face. “Oh you-! No flattery in this house!” She retorts. I laugh. “No flattery, just honesty.”
I glance over at Nezu. It could have just been me but I think his smile relaxed a bit. “We should be off Mrs. Midoriya. I can see they are in good hands.” I get up from my spot and bring the cupcakes over to them. “Her cupcakes are great. You shouldn't leave without them.” I suggest. Nezu sighs and takes one of the vanilla. Over his shoulder he glances at the heroes. “Go on. I’m not gonna stop you!” Mic exhaled as if he was holding his breath all this time. “Oh thank god!” He snatched two and gorged them. “Oh wow.” I comment. Woods jabs Mic in the rib, making him cough on some cupcake. “Hey!” Woods glares at the blonde. “Just because you’re my senior doesn't mean that you have the excuse of not knowing some manners.” Snipe carefully takes one and thanks Inko. Is that a blush I see?  No. Calm down inner shipper. “We best be off now.” Nezu restates and soon  enough the heroes leave me and Inko alone in her apartment.
We take some time getting to know each other at the dining room table. And true to form, Inko was just as sweet as she is in the anime. Apparently she’s also into American culture and late night dramas. Wouldn't have pegged her for that kind of stuff but the surprise was pleasant. “You’re really great at baking Mrs. Midoriya!” I exclaim while taking our plates to the sink. “Oh- thank you! I’m happy to know someone besides my son likes my cooking.” Oh right.. I should probably ask about Izuku. “Oh right-! I forgot to ask about your son! What’s he like?” This is gonna be interesting. “Oh well, he’s a little shy but once you get to know him you'll see who he is.” Right on que the door opens. “Mom! I’m home!” I hear that iconic voice followed by the front door opening. “Oh Izuku! In here! The exchange student is here!” Something falls and Izuku yells. “I-Izuku?!” Inko begins to get up only for Izuku to call back. “I-Im fine mom!” I glance over at Inko and back at the hallway. Izuku eventually walks into the dining room. “W-Where are-”
Inko motions to me. “Izuku, this is Y/n L/n, they will be staying with us. They’ll have the guest room.” Izuku’s eyes fall on me. As mine do the same for him. He was still in his school uniform. Pants baggy, tie dishoveled, shoelaces untied, the imperfections out weighed the perfections in his uniform. No wonder the hot mess energy he was radiating was all the more powerful. I can't help but smile. “You must be running around a lot.” I smirk in attempts to break the tension. He jumps a little at my sudden remark. “O-Oh! Um.. y-yeah. The school is pretty big so..” He trails off into silence. Silence that lasts a whole minute. I bite my lip. “Sooo uh.. I saw you at the UA sports festival? You won the first round! I was so smart of you to take off a chunk of the robot and use it for the later portion of the race.” His face flushes a bright pink. “O-Oh no! I bet anyone would have thought of that if they were in my situation!” I chuckle. “Dude that's unique to you! Noone can replicate that now without bringing you up!” He goes and scratches the back of his head. “Y-yeah.. I guess you’re right.” I hear Inko let out a sigh of relief.
“Now that you two have met, how about we get you settled Y/n.”
Realizations
ao3 | 2,078 words
Nancy pulled into the driveway of the Drew residence. She had just dropped Bess and George off after an afternoon of lunch and shopping. It had been Bess's idea to shop and of course George had complained the whole time. But even with Bess's endless chatter and the muttering from George, the afternoon had been nice. Nancy had just gotten back from back to back cases so it had been good to relax for a bit.
She made her way inside, dropped her messenger bag on the couch and then continued into the kitchen going through the mail she had taken from the mailbox as she walked. Bill, advertisement, bill, letter addressed to carson drew, another advertisement. She tossed the mail onto the counter and started to make herself a snack. As she was pouring milk for the cookies she had grabbed, her text message alert went off. She pulled her phone out of her back pocket and looked at the screen.
1 new text message
She opened her phone to see that the message was from Joe Hardy.
Hey Nance! I heard you were done with your cases! How were they?
Smiling to herself she took her milk and cookies with her over to the couch. Placing her snack in front of her on the coffee table she sat down, pulled her legs up under her and began to text Joe back.
Hi joe! Ya! They were kind of exhausting tbh so I’m glad to be home. What are you up to?!
Nancy bit her bottom lip as she contemplated asking the question she really wanted to ask. How was frank. She hadn’t talked to him since they had ended things.
It wasn’t like their break up had been terrible. About three months in they realized that the two of them were better suited for friendship. They were too much alike. But she had the feeling that Frank took the realization harder than she had. Everyone knew that Frank had always pined for Nancy long before they ever tried a relationship; even Nancy knew that. She just hoped that at some point soon they could go back to being good friends. For now, she had decided to give him some space. Between her recent case load and the fact that she didn't exactly live in the same town as Frank it had been relatively easy. She had been wondering if she should reach out to him in some way though.
She looked back at the screen of her phone and saw that Joe had responded.
Well, I'm actually in River Heights! And I thought it could be fun to meet up for some coffee?
What was Joe doing in River Heights? It wasn’t like he had a habit of randomly showing up. Nancy wondered if Frank was with him. But no. He had said “I'm” in River Heights, not we. So he must be alone.
You are??? What a nice surprise! Is Frank with you? What brings you here?
Maybe he was working on a case and needed some help? He would have said that in his text though. Joe got way too excited for cases to leave that detail out.
No he isn’t. It’s just me. You want to meet me at the coffee shop? I’m there right now!
At this point curiosity was taking over and Nancy wanted to find out what was going on. Plus Joe was always fun to hang out with.
Ya! I’m headed there right now. See you soon!
Nancy quickly put her glass of milk in the fridge and the cookies in a bag to save for later. Then  grabbed her keys and headed to her car.
***
Joe sat at a little table by the window of the small coffee shop looking down at his mug. His coffee had grown cold. He had lost track of how long he’d been there. Maybe an hour? All he knew was that after his conversation with Frank last night he couldn’t think of anything else other than seeing Nancy. He didn’t even know how this would go or what he would say. He was a jittery ball of nerves. Flashes of his conversation with frank coming up in his mind every few minutes or so.
"Joe you like Nancy don't you.
"Yeah of course I do! She's great. What kind of question is that anyway?"
"No, I mean you like like her"
Joe stared blankly at Frank. "What do you mean?"
"Joe," Frank scoffed, "I've seen the way you look at her when you think I'm not looking. Like she can do no wrong and like she is the most perfect girl in the world. But also, you never really shut up about her."
Joe sat there in stunned silence. He thought about all the times they had spent together with Nancy. They were just fun times! With a good friend! What was frank talking about.
He rolled his eyes "Whatever that's just- I’m not-
But suddenly he was thinking back to all those times he felt subtle twinges of jealousy every time Frank and Nancy seemed to have a connection and he felt like a third wheel. It had been even worse when Frank and Nancy were actually dating. Or how he felt excited every time they joined forces with Nancy and he got to see her again. He had always passed these feelings off as nothing and would tell himself he was only excited because Nancy was a great friend or he was only jealous because he didn’t like feeling left out. With a jolt he realized Frank was right. He had been harboring some feelings for Nancy. How could he have been so clueless?
"I- I guess you're right. I- I haven't really given it much thought but now that you say it I- w-what do I do?"
He looked up at Frank with wide eyes. He suddenly felt nervous. When was he ever nervous? About a girl?
Frank sat for a moment, his expression thoughtful.
"I think you should tell her. You'll always wonder if you don't. At least find out if she could feel the same."
Joe sat anxiously on the edge of his bed, while Frank sat across the room staring back at Joe letting his words sink in.
"At least one of us should have a chance with her.”
There was a hint of a small smile on Frank's face but Joe knew he was still hurting and could hear the ache in his voice.  After all, it had only been a month since Frank and Nancy had ended things. Joe realized how hard this must be for him.
"Are you sure you're alright with that? It hasn't been that long since-"
Frank gave him a small smile.
"Ya Joe, I'm fine with it"
Joe was startled back to reality by the scraping of chairs as the neighboring table prepared to leave. He was suddenly aware again of the butterflies that had been ever present in his stomach since his conversation with Frank. They had made it impossible for him to even eat, which he found annoying. If there was one thing in this world Joe loved, it was eating. He looked around at the locals chattering and sipping at their own coffee mugs. They all seemed so at ease and relaxed. What he would give to be in anyone else's shoes right now.
"It isn't like me to be so nervous about a girl" Joe muttered to himself.
The thing was, Nancy wasn't just some girl to Joe. She never had been, not really. From the moment they first met as teens he knew there was something different about her. Now in their mid twenties she had grown to be something really special to him. She was Nance. One of his best friends. The girl who could solve any code, cipher, riddle or puzzle thrown at her. The girl who fought for what was important to her. The greatest amateur detective and person he'd ever met. And one of his best friends.
Joe didn't know if he could do it. If he told her how he felt and she didn't reciprocate, or worse just thought of him as a brother, his heart would shatter, he was sure of it. Snap out of it. It’s going to be alright. Just then he noticed a blue roadster pull into the coffee shops parking lot from the corner of his eye. He watched as a strawberry blonde got out of the car and started to walk towards the door. Well, here goes nothing I guess.
***
Nancy walked through the doors of the coffee shop and caught sight of Joe sitting near a back window. He gave her a little wave and she started walking in his direction. As she got closer she noticed that he didn’t seem quite himself. She couldn’t put a finger on it, but something was off.
“Hey Joe!”
“Hi” he responded with a smile. That great Joe Hardy smile.
Nancy ordered a coffee and the two friends spent a few minutes catching up. They hadn’t seen each other since around the time she and Frank had ended things. Joe asked her about her cases and Nancy filled him in. Throughout the conversation she couldn’t help but noticed that Joe seemed a little jittery; not his normal relaxed self. He kept avoiding direct eye contact with her and she noted that he hadn’t ordered any food. Which was unusual for Joe. He ordered food every time he was in a place that served it. His coffee was barely touched as well. Maybe she would pry here in a minute, but first she had to ask the question that was most tugging at her brain.
“How is Frank doing?” She had to ask. It would bother her if she didn’t.
“He’s doing okay. I think he’s still a little sad, but it’s Frank. He’ll bounce back eventually right?” Joe gave Nancy a reassuring smile.
“Ya I suppose you’re right”, Nancy sighed. “Anyway, are you okay Joe? You seem nervous and you haven’t ordered any food, which is very unusual for you.”
Joe gave a little laugh,“Nothing get’s past you Nance." His eyes darted around the coffee shop at all the people there and then looked back at her.
“Hey can we get out of here? Maybe we can walk to that park over there?” He gestured across the street.
“Uh ya, sure. Why not” Nancy shrugged with a small frown on her face. Something was definitely going on. He hadn’t even made any of those Joe Hardy jokes she had grown to love.
They made their way out the door and across the street. Joe led them to a bench near a small pond and they sat down.
“Alright”, Joe started. “I didn’t just show up today for no reason. I- well I wanted to tell you something.”
His face was serious and determined and Nancy couldn’t help but notice how cute he looked. He was suddenly making eye contact with her and her stomach did a flip. All at once Nancy thought she knew what was coming, but not only that, she also realized that it was what she wanted. Feelings she didn’t realize she had began to surface all at once. People had pushed her and Frank together for years and she had given in to that, thinking it was the right thing. But was the person for her in front of her all along? Had it been a Hardy brother after all? Just not the one everyone thought it would be?
She became very aware of how close they were sitting. Their knees almost touching and their hands resting on the bench between them, mere inches apart.
“Nancy, I- I really like you... more than a friend”, he quickly corrected. He bit his lip as he anticipated what Nancy was going to say.
They sat for a moment. Nancy noticed that they had slowly moved closer in the last few minutes. Getting caught up in the moment and without thinking any more about it she closed the gap and kissed Joe. She pulled back and gave an awkward little laugh. Joe sat there, stunned, before he came back to reality and smiled one of his big Joe Hardy smiles.
“I guess that means you like me too?”
“Oh Joe”, Nancy said with a laugh and they both moved in for another kiss.
Supergirl Valentine's Prompts Day 8/14: Dating because of a bet
Maggie is…she’s…Alex isn’t even exactly sure how to describe her, except that she’s everything. Alex has never met anyone quite like her, has never felt quite like this about anyone before.
She’s amazing, she’s so funny and smart and beautiful and Alex had no idea how much would change the day Maggie walked into her life.
And sometimes Alex can’t help but gush to her sister about her feelings because she’s never actually had someone she wants to gush about.
“…and today, when she smiled, her dimples were-“
“Alex, please, for the love of Rao, stop. I do not need to know how adorable Maggie is when she scrunches her nose.”
Alex goes red. She didn’t say that…today anyway. “Like you can talk, you’re just as bad as me, the way you go on and on about Lena too.”
“No, I know I’m bad, but you’re definitely worse.”
“Yeah, well, I’ll stop going on about Maggie when you stop going on about Lena.”
Alex gets a pillow thrown at her for her efforts.
And she knows the best way to get under Kara’s skin as payback.
“Maggie’s ass is-“
“Do not finish that sentence,” Kara cuts in, glaring at her.
“I’m kidding,” Alex laughs, but then her mind goes back to Maggie as Kara goes back to the sketch she’s working on, one that looks suspiciously like Lena.
But Alex can’t help it, this is all so new to her, all these feelings, all this excitement, all this love, that she just doesn’t know how to contain it all.
“Today at the precinct, Maggie-“
“No.” Kara says, startling Alex with the strength in her voice. “I love that you’ve finally figured yourself out and you’ve found someone who makes you so happy. But please, please, just ask her out so you can spend time with her instead of going on and on about her to me.”
Now that, asking Maggie out, is something else entirely. She likes her, God, she likes her so much, but she’s not sure she has the confidence to ask her out, not sure she can face the possible rejection.
“I’ll tell you what, I’ll ask Maggie out when you ask Lena out.”
“Deal,” Kara says.
There, that should shut Kara up, for a little while anyway, but also maybe she should stop talking about Maggie so much to her too.
Alex sighs, she wonders what Maggie is doing right now, probably out with some other girl and-
“Okay, that’s it,” Kara says.
“What?”
“That sigh, I can’t take it anymore.” Kara picks up her phone, Alex not sure what she’s doing as she watches Kara bring the phone up to her ear.
“Hey,” Kara says to the mystery person on the other end of the phone when they answer.
Except it’s not a mystery for long as Alex watches the way Kara softens as she makes small talk with Lena.
“Do you want to have dinner with me tonight night?”
Alex gasps. No, did Kara…?
Lena’s response has Kara absolutely beaming so there’s no doubt as to what Lena’s response is.
“Great, it’s a date.”
Kara hangs up the phone after they say goodbye, looking entirely too pleased with herself. “There, I asked Lena out, now it’s your turn.”
“You didn’t.”
“I did,” Kara says, showing Alex the call log on her phone.
Alex still doesn’t believe her, so she texts Lena instead, even shows Kara the text before she ends it.
Did my sister just ask you out on a date?
I don’t know how you’re involved in this but I’m glad you are. She did, so thank you.
Huh, wow, okay, Kara is braver than she thought, which means…
“Your turn,” Kara grins.
---
Alex is nervous when she walks into the bar and sees Maggie already there. She’d invited Maggie out for drinks and pool, so she can ask her out again, but on a date this time. Kara asked Lena out, and she’s not one to back out of a bet, and she’s definitely not one to be outdone by her sister.
She had to listen to Kara go on and on last night about how good her first kiss with Lena was and Alex has put this off for a few days but she’s run out of excuses.
“Danvers, hey,” Maggie smiles, and there are those goddamn dimples that makes Alex’s knees weak and got her into this situation in the first place. “I got you a beer.”
“Hey, thanks,” Alex says as she takes the seat beside Maggie. She picks up the offered drink, takes a long sip, hoping the alcohol will give her a bit of courage.
“You alright there?” Maggie asks, nodding at the beer that’s half gone already.
Alex smiles, or at least she tries to, it’s more of a grimace. “I’m fine.” She can tell Maggie doesn’t believe her.
“I think I might know what this is about.”
“I’m not sure you do,” Alex says. This was dumb, Maggie is never going to say yes to a date, so she may as well just keep her mouth shut, keep the friendship they have.
But then there’s that competitive streak inside her that can’t let Kara win. Kara asked out Lena, and that was the deal, she’d ask out Maggie when Kara asked out her own crush, and Kara held up her end of the deal so Alex has to follow through too.
 And then there’s that little voice in her head that says, what if? What if Maggie does like her? What if she took a chance and Maggie says yes? What if she could be as happy as Kara is now?
Because Maggie looks at her sometimes with a look that Alex thinks might mean more.
“I do. Kara talked to me this morning.”
Alex feels her heart stop. Kara wouldn’t-
“She was worried she was pushing you into being heartbroken, she knew how you felt about me and was worried you’d be hurt if I didn’t feel the same way.”
Oh God, Kara would. She’s going to kill her sister, it may be a difficult task but she’s going to find a way, to pay her back for the utter mortification she feels right now.
“I’m so sorry, I can’t believe she’d do that,” Alex starts, wanting to explain, but there’s no real way to explain Kara’s actions without also explaining the huge crush she has on Maggie, which may be irrelevant anyway as it seems Kara may have beaten her to it.
“She technically didn’t, she was trying to be subtle and talk around the subject, but we both know your sister isn’t subtle at all and it didn’t take me long to figure out what she was saying. Besides the little deal you two made, she did have to explain that part.”
Alex wants to die, she just wants to leave this plane of existence and never see Maggie or think about this moment ever again.
“So?”
“…so what?”
“You gonna ask me out, Danvers? Because according to your sister that’s what you’re here to do.”
“I…you…ahh…do you want me to-“ She can’t even get the stupid words out, there was no way she was going to be able to actually ask Maggie out, even before Kara derailed her whole plan.
“If it helps, I’m going to say yes.”
This time Alex’s heart stops, for a different reason. She looks at the warm brown eyes watching her, a hint of teasing in the corners but nothing to say that she’s lying, nothing in her soft smile or dimples to let Alex know Maggie is being anything but sincere.
So she asks the questions that she thought she’d be too scared to ask.
“Would you like to have dinner with me?”
Maggie grins. “I thought you’d never ask.”
(Kara realises her mistake a week later when Alex’s gushing about Maggie only gets worse).
