Listen up, folks! I can tell that this week’s talentswap would be a doozy! You best stick around for the loud presence of Myth, the Former Ultimate Commentator!
——————————————————-
BACKSTORY AND TALENT
Despite what her present-day personality would suggest, the pre-middle school Myth was the total opposite of post-high school Myth, being timid and usually spending her time cooped up in her room and playing video games, a far cry from her jock parents and older sisters. Myth looked upon her pathetic past self with shame, and seeked to reinvent herself, basing her new personality off of the bombastic and outgoing E-sports and actual sports commentators that she encounters frequently and idolises, complete with an entire personality and wardrobe change. When she entered high-school with the brand-new ensemble and personality, she was a massive hit and was asked several times to comment on her school’s regular sports (and, more irregularly, her school’s E-sports tournaments), and each time, she accepted their offers, and she blew them away with her witty and well-timed commentary, as well as her sheer passion for whatever she is commentating on. Myth also garnered infamy for regularly flirting with her co-stars, and always succeeding in making them blush on camera. In the adult years, Myth is still going strong as a commentator and regularly stars in massive events.
——————————————————-
RELATIONSHIPS
Wyre Anon, Former Ultimate Net Admin
In spite of their young age, Wyre is competent with computers and other pieces of tech, to the point that they were left in charge of a whole city’s LAN network, and you better believe that they put their technological aptitude to good use, for they can manage both that, and spending their free-time cohosting with Myth. For a good majority of Myth’s life, Wyre was her only friend and they regularly like to sit together in Myth’s house and play video games together, and Wyre proved to be an amazing Player 2. Wyre is the only one of all of the Kibo-Con attendees who actually knew Myth before her whole wardrobe revamp, and Wyre is the only one who Myth can truly let her guard down and regress back to her past self.
Outfit: A dark green hoodie over a white dress shirt and a bright green tie, green and grey headphones around their neck, black fingerless gloves, dark grey short shorts, green and black striped stockings, red and white converses.
Anon Scar, Ultimate Brewmaster
Despite her Ultimate title commonly being used for people who specialise in brewing alcoholic drinks, Scar‘s title refers to her sheer talent in brewing relaxing herbal teas and other herbal beverages. Scar is also a hobbyist tea ceremonialist (much like her parents and siblings) and the students under her are called ”The Underlings of the Demon of the Liquid Form”, and Scar happens to be the before-mentioned “Demon of the Liquid Form”. While Scar isn’t really in any position to mock people for their personality quirks, Myth’s constant hyperactive energy concerns Scar, and regularly tries to offer the coffee/energy drink-hyped Myth some of her signature relaxing herbal tea. Myth always refuses the tea, much to the tea brewer’s ire.
Outfit: Hair in a ponytail, a purple, black and red kimono with long sleeves and a black obi, with black hakama pants, white socks, and geta sandals.
Fusion Anon, Ultimate Buddy
Desperately in need for some money to support his close-to-bankrupt parents and little brother, Fusion decided to admit himself into a “rent-a-buddy“ service, in which Fusion could become somebody’s temporary friend for money. Fusion’s cheery and caring (to an almost paternal degree) personality proved to be a hit amongst those that rented and hanged out with him. All of the positive reviews written about him allowed Hope’s Peak to saddle him with the title of “Ultimate Buddy” and gained even further popularity with patrons of the “rent-a-buddy” service. Fusion’s friendly yet calm personality with goes well with Myth’s boundless and high-octane personality, and regularly helps pull Myth back down to Earth.
Outfit: A blue blazer over a baggy red hoodie, pants that match his blazer, black and white sneakers, the glasses from his original design.
Fusion II, Ultimate Principal
In spite of her age, Fusion II proved herself to be a competent school principal, when the regular principal and vice principal of her school got injured in an accident, and needed a substitute. As the over-confident and power-seeking honors student she is, Fusion II stepped up to bat, and did well enough in the principal and vice’s principal’s positions to earn her Ultimate title of “Ultimate Principal”. With a sarcastic demeanor (from dealing with so many troublemakers), Fusion II regularly tries to come off as poised, cool, collected and mature, but often times, her more dorky side would show up, much to her embarrassment. Myth regularly likes to toy with the dorky principal and see Fusion II’s cool and mature facade crack.
Outfit: A dark grey pantsuit over a pink t-shirt and a red tie, black heels that make her look taller, the ribbons and sunglasses from her original design.
Just Anon, Ultimate Masseur
Desperately trying to escape all of the strict adult figures in his life, Janon eventually figured out that he had a gift for giving relaxation-inducing massages to others and finding the pressure points on just about anybody. Upon finding out about his secret gift, Janon quickly went on a pressure-point-poking spree in his school, in order to make all of his teachers fall asleep, to give everybody (but mostly him) more time to finish their homework. However, Janon is much more merciful towards his underclassmen, and regularly gives them a proper massage, just before they start particularly stressful projects. Myth’s annoyingly hyperactive attitude really gets on Janon’s nerves, and he has to poke Myth’s special pressure point, in order to shut her up.
Outfit: A pink ski-cap with a little face and bunny ears on top, a baggy pink t-shirt, baggy blue pants, and brown sandals, the mask from his original design.
Sparkle Anon, Former Ultimate Orator
With a loud voice and a knack for performance, whenever Sparkle organises a speech, the audience can tell that they are in for quite the spectacle, both physically speaking and mentally speaking. Sparkle‘s speeches manage to be all shine and all substance, all at once, for in spite of her overdramatic and eccentric personality, Sparkle‘s speeches are always well-researched and erudite, and according to her critics, truly deserve to be called “SPECTACULAR“. Apart from Wyre, Myth gets along with Sparkle the most, thanks to their similar loud and bombastic personalities and their similar talents. On occasion, you could find videos online of the two girls collaborating with each other. They really are something, so to speak.
Outfit: The same outfit from the original design, but with a small microphone clipped to her hoodie.
Egg Anon, Former Ultimate Mystery Novelist, and Wet Sock Anon, Former Ultimate Paranormal Investigator
With creepy aesthetics and a love for all things horrific and cursed, Egg and Wet Sock revel in all things mysterious and paranormal. The duo actually work together, with the brooding yet benevolent Wet Sock’s paranormal investigations providing fuel for the more smiley but much more devious Egg’s mystery novels. Despite not seeming all that bright, Egg is very manipulative and knows just what to do to gain inspiration for their twisted novels. Sometimes, Myth likes to co-star on Wet Sock’s paranormal investigation web series. Wet Sock would never admit it, but Myth managed to spice up the show and put a smile on their face. Myth is currently trying to create the audiobook version of one of Egg’s novels, with Sparkle’s help.
Egg’s Outfit: A black top hat with a white feather quill stuck in the red band, a black blazer over a red vest and white dress shirt, a black skirt, dark grey tights, red slip-on shoes.
Wet Sock’s Outfit: A black hoodie with purple patches, black sweatpants, brown steel-toed boots.
Curious Anon, Jr. Ultimate Strongperson
Originally from an orphanage, Curious had a hard time finding a proper home, due to their eerie smile and their unnatural strength. That was until a circus found them and decided to take them in, for they were looking for a strongman for their latest circus act. The audience marveled, as Curious lifted objects that were several times their height and several times their weight. In spite of their freakish strength, Curious is very polite and courteous, both in and out of the tent. Curious gets along unsurprisingly (considering their attitude) well with Myth, for she reminds them of the kindly ringmaster that took them in. Whenever Curious goes over to lift something, you could often hear Myth acting like and impersonating a circus’s ringmaster.
Outfit: Hair in a ponytail, a white tanktop, dark green cargo pants, black boots and matching fingerless gloves.
Anon Nerd, Former Ultimate Conductor
With a loud and commanding voice and quite the colorful vocabulary, there is no mistaking Nerd’s presence in the train station, for he has worked at the local train station for practically all of his life. Needless to say, years of dealing with criminals and assorted troublemakers on the train, has given him a firey and easy-to-rile-up attitude, that is clearly not helped by his chronic ”surrounded by idiots” syndrome that plagues his career, school life, and chaperoning life, all the time. Myth really loves to mess with people who are easy to rile up and fluster, and Nerd is most definitely not an exception to this rule. She doesn’t care if Nerd’s scouter blasts the dyed hair and contacts right off of her, for she’ll just keep on riling him up.
Outfit: Same outfit, but with the addition of white gloves and a black conductor’s hat.
Eldritch Anon, Ultimate Foreman
Born in a regularly torn-down slum in the middle of nowhere, Eldritch quickly took action and joined the construction force, in protest of the government that regularly tears down the buildings that he calls his home. In spite of his small height and otherwise timid personality, Eldritch proved to be an excellent foreman and an even better commander, who managed to organize freedom fighters out of otherwise obedient construction workers. During the Kibo-Con field trip, Eldritch regularly tries to gather more freedom fighters, to barely any avail. Eldritch doesn’t trust anyone who isn’t on his side, and, until she decides to join Eldritch and his band of freedom fighters, Myth absolutely has no reason to be trusted, in the eyes of Eldritch.
Outfit: A black and green construction uniform.
Dream Anon, Ultimate Hide-And-Seeker
Despite her ridiculous-sounding title, Dream is the reigning champion of the National Hide-And-Seek championships that her hometown holds every single year, and is a master at both hiding and seeking, for she is strikingly observant and strategic, in spite of what her bullheaded and childish personality would suggest. Dream wears her title of “Ultimate Hide-And-Seeker” as a badge of pride, and couldn’t care less about the laughter she gets from others, when she mentions what her talent is. Dream and Myth actually had quite the history together, for they have similar personalities, and Myth actually commentated on Dream’s yearly hide-and-seek matches before, so Dream knew Myth before the Kibo-Con trip.
Outfit: A camo hoodie and matching baseball cap, denim short shorts, black stockings and green sneakers.
Iris Anon, Jr. Ultimate Mountaineer
A massive fanatic of nature and rock climbing, ever since she was a little girl, Iris is famous for scaling the tallest and most treacherous of mountains, and then placing a galaxy-printed flag on the very peak of them. Despite her own clumsiness and the dangerous situations that she keeps putting herself into, Iris always reaches the top of the mountain, with her head held high and with a great big smile on her face. Her optimism and determination towards her goals is was garnered her fame, along with geographical reach. Myth and Iris get along well, for they both have a shared love of all actions risky, with Iris doing the reckless stuff and Myth commentating and also doing the reckless stuff, much to the concern of the Brain Cells.
Outfit: Hair in a single braid, a pink parka over a galaxy printed sweater, black leggings, brown Ugg boots, a galaxy printed backpack filled with mountaineering gear, glasses from her original design.
Purple Anon, Ultimate Saleswoman
Born to two parents that are absolute tycoons in the financial world, Purple inherited the business acumen that her parents had, and multiplied said acumen to an unforeseen degree. Purple knows which words to use from her expansive (and admittedly, very old-fashioned) vocabulary, in order to convince prospective customers into buying products from her parents’ company, and most of the time, Purple chooses her words well, and manages to convince almost all of said prospective customers into buying her stuff. Myth is currently trying to convince the timid-if-not-in-a-business-setting Purple to do a couple of hammy infomercials featuring Purple’s products together, but Purple seems to be rather camera-shy.
Outfit: A purple headband that hides a question mark shaped ahoge, a long-sleeves purple dress shirt and a black tie with her family’s logo on the front, grey nylons, the skirt and shoes from her original design.
Prepare to get potential collaborations, for this AU’s story would function much like a talk show!
——————————————————-
PERSONALITY
The first thing that would pop out at you, when encountering Commentator!Myth, apart from her loud appearance, is her equally loud tone of voice. Commentator!Myth talks very loudly and very quickly, which are great qualities when it comes to her constant commentary. Commentator!Myth is a massive attention hog, and thrives off of the attention and love she gets from others (to compensate for her lonely and friendless childhood), hence her loud appearance, her loud voice, and her flirtatious behavior with her co-stars. Commentator!Myth is also shockingly intelligent and analytical, in spite of her reckless and extremely energetic behavior, which is a valuable asset to have when you are talking about fast-paced sports/e-sports matches.
——————————————————-
APPEARANCE
Commentator!Myth’s hair is dyed various shades of blue, purple, and red and is held up in a long ponytail. In her post-middle school makeover, she switched from contacts to glasses. Commentator!Myth wears a blue hoodie with various badges on the front, over a black t-shirt with a red lightning bolt on the front, pink headphones with a built in microphone, around her neck, a red skirt with a golden star belt, black stockings with randomly-colored polka dots on them, and purple glow-in-the-dark sneakers.
——————————————————-
I’d love to hear your opinions on this AU! Which would you say is your favorite or most interesting talentswapped character? Kudos to anyone who knows where the talent set originated from!

A Vacation to Remember
Happy birthday @cresstic!
Warnings: kissing, crying
Pairings: Romantic Moxiety, Brotherly Prinxiety
Word Count: ~1.8k
Patton is modeled after a Lineatus Fairy Wrasse!
The slam of the car door followed by the loud voice of his brother had Virgil groaning. It was way too early in the morning for any of this.
“V, aren’t you excited? We’ll have a whole section of the beach to ourselves! I mean, I’ll probably head down to the public area to scout for a hot lifeguard, but it’ll be great for you.” The words tumbled out of Roman’s mouth so fast that anyone unrelated to him would’ve been unable to decipher it.
Unfortunately, Virgil understood the whole thing. “You realize I probably won’t leave the beachhouse, right?”
“Oh, come on Virgil!” His dad slipped into the car. “You’ve got to go outside a little bit. If you don’t get a base tan, you know you’ll just fry this summer.”
“Not if I don’t leave the house.”
“Fine, fine. But I’ll have you know, the beachhouse? There’s no air conditioning.” At his son’s groan, Remy laughed. “Relax, there’s a cool breeze that floats in off the ocean. We can open the windows and it’ll be fine. But you’re definitely not going to want to wear that hoodie or you’ll get heatstroke.”
“Ughhhh.”
As soon as Remy had put on his seatbelt, they headed off. Virgil slipped his headphones on, drowning out the Disney music coming from his right. How Roman could listen to his music that loud was a mystery.
About an hour into the drive, Virgil felt his eyelids drooping. He was notorious for passing out every time they took a car trip, and this time was no exception.
What felt like moments later, he felt someone gently shaking his shoulder and pulling off his headphones. “V, we’re here.”
As he opened his door, Virgil hissed as a blast of heat entered the car. There was a breeze coming off the ocean, but his dad was right. If he kept the sweatshirt on, he was going to pass out.
He pulled the hoodie off, opting to leave it in the car. It wasn’t like he was going to need it during the trip anyway.
The three of them unloaded their suitcases - multiple of them were Roman’s - before heading into the beachhouse.
It was a quaint little house, just big enough for the three of them. They each got their own room, Roman claiming his before changing and heading out for the public beach, just a five minute walk up the road. Remy threw his suitcase on his bed before heading out for town, list of groceries in hand.
Which left Virgil to explore the house.
He found the final bedroom tucked away in the back corner of the house. The white sheets were tucked in a little too perfectly. Virgil pulled them out as best as he could, not wanting to sleep with his arms pinned to his sides.
The sun hitting the sheer curtains was casting an almost ethereal glow over the room. Virgil could hardly hold back a grin, knowing Roman was going to be jealous that his room had the best lighting in the house. He snapped a picture, sending it to Roman, before unpacking his clothes.
As the temperature started to rise, he opened his window. The curtains floated in the breeze. After he finished with his clothes, he changed into a bathing suit and slathered on some sunscreen, waiting for it to soak in before going anywhere.
Once his timer went off, he grabbed a pair of sunglasses, a birthday gift from his dad, and headed out.
The scorching sand was too hot under his feet, forcing him to walk on the shoreline. He wandered along, heading the opposite direction of the public beach. It was a nice feeling, knowing that no one could bother him. Not unless Roman came back, but he had no doubts about his brother’s ability to flirt with the entire beach.
Heat beamed down on him from above. Virgil briefly considered ducking into the water, but he didn’t want to have to rinse the salt out of his hair.
As he rounded a corner, the ocean opened up into a shallow cove. The water looked much clearer and sparkled in the afternoon sun. Virgil couldn’t help but smile as he saw a few crabs scuttling in the sand.
The crabs headed into a cave nearby. Virgil judged the mouth, guessing that it was about twenty feet tall and fifteen feet wide. Water flowed into it at a rapid pace.
“Okay, I’ll take ten steps in and then I’ll head back.” He mumbled to himself, not wanting to get caught inside if the tide came in.
Around his fifth step, a boy about his age popped out of the water, staring at him with curious eyes. Virgil jumped, nearly falling into the water.
“Hello!” The boy had an accent that Virgil couldn’t place. His light blue hair was a stark contrast to his dark skin.
Virgil waved. “Um, hi. Are you lost?”
“Nope! I live nearby.” The boy pointed past the cove. “About 2 nautical miles that way.”
“Nautical - you live on an island then?” Virgil turned. “I don’t see one.”
“No silly, I live in the reef!”
“The re -”
A glittering rainbow tail splashed out of the water behind the boy. Virgil could feel his eyes widening. “Is that a tail?”
“Yeah!” The boy swam closer. “Where’s yours? I’d heard about a way to get human legs, but I thought it was hard.”
“I am human.”
The boy moved further into the cave. “I thought...your hair is purple!”
“I dyed it. I really like the color.” Virgil stayed where he was, not wanting to scare the merman. “I’m sorry.”
“Humans are scary.”
“You got that right.” Virgil carefully sat in the water, making sure that he didn’t end up on a sea urchin. “Humans are terrifying.”
“But...you’re human.”
“I know.”
The boy regarded him for a moment before swimming a little closer. “What’s your name?”
“Virgil.”
“Vir-gill.” Laughter echoed through the cave as the boy giggled at his own joke. “Why are you afraid of humans?”
Virgil thought for a moment. “Humans ruin things. We’ve cut down entire forests just to put in cities. The ones who don’t vaccinate can cause epidemics. And our garbage ends up in the ocean...sorry.”
“You’re a good human.” The boy swam even closer, allowing Virgil to see that the rainbow in his tail faded into his dark skin. “I’m Patton.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Patton.”
Over the next week, Virgil would ‘take a walk on the beach’ and visit Patton. He would make sure he was only gone for about an hour before he headed back. As soon as Patton learned this, he would let Virgil know when his hour was up. Something about the alignment of the sun...Virgil didn’t understand it but he was grateful.
He learned so much from Patton, and taught Patton what he could in return. Patton talked of Atlantis and the kingdom, though he said he’d only ever visited a few times. His pod lived among the coral in the nearby reef, hiding when the humans did their scuba diving. They’d carved out deep into the coral, training eels to guard the various entrances so the humans would stay away.
Virgil talked of the good in the world, the people who protested for what was wrong. The ones who shielded those who didn’t deserve the hatred and violence. Of the ones doing their best to make a difference.
Each day, he and Patton would sit a little closer.
Each day, they would get more touchy.
Each day, Virgil’s heart would beat faster.
If this was how love felt...he never wanted to leave.
On their final day of vacation, Virgil packed everything up before sprinting down the beach. He found Patton in the cave once more, but the merman’s face fell as he saw the tears slipping down Virgil’s cheeks.
“Virge?”
“We - we’re leaving. We have to go back home and I’ll never get to see you again and I think I’m in l-” Cutting himself off, Virgil blushed. “I don’t want to leave you.”
Regarding him for a moment, Patton disappeared into the back of the cave. “Wait there!”
Virgil waited, growing more anxious as the seconds ticked by.
Patton returned quickly, holding a pristine white conch shell in his hands. “When you get home, put this into some kind of running water. A river would be best, but a stream will do.”
Taking the shell, Virgil looked at his friend. “Why?”
“There’s a legend…” Patton shook his head. “Please, just trust me.”
“I do.”
A sad smile crossed Patton’s face. “Then I guess this is goodbye. For now.”
The two hugged each other tightly before heading back to their families. Virgil had managed to clear his face before heading back to the car.
“Cool shell!” Roman said as he saw Virgil walk up. “Where did you find it?”
“Along the beach.” Virgil held it gingerly, terrified of what would happen if it broke.
Roman noticed immediately. “Do you want to wrap it in a towel?”
Before Virgil could respond, Roman snagged a beach towel out of his suitcase. Virgil took it, thanking him, and carefully wrapped the shell. He carried it as though it was a baby, not releasing his hold on it for even a second.
For the first time since he could remember, he didn’t fall asleep in the car. Instead, he stared out the window, wondering what the shell could do. Maybe it would allow him and Patton to talk. It would be nice to have a best friend that wasn’t related to him.
When they got home, Virgil helped unpack, his nerves making him jittery. Once Remy allowed them to go, he grabbed the shell and sprinted to the creek in the woods, hoping that it would be enough.
He placed the shell in the water, holding his breath.
A bright flash of light nearly blinded him. When he blinked the spots out of his vision, Patton was standing there.
Standing.
On human legs.
He threw himself into Virgil’s arms, the silky bell sleeves feeling cool against his skin. “It worked!”
“Now will you explain?” Virgil asked, looping his arms around Patton’s waist.
“Legend says that if a human and a mer truly love each other, unconditionally...if the mer entrusts their most prized possession with the human and the human sticks it in running water, then the mer will become human.” Patton leaned in closer. “I didn’t know if you loved me, but now it’s clear.”
“As clear as the waters in the cove.” Virgil mumbled, closing the gap between them.
It was nice to have a best friend and a boyfriend rolled into one.
Even if he had some explaining to do.

pairing: kimtaehyung x reader
warnings: fluff (?) , angst if you squint
a Daegu farm boy captures the heart of a tourist.
notes: I had to research so much about Daegu and it’s countryside since it’s the 3rd largest city in Korea. After researching some stuff it looks like I have to book a ticket to see it myself. Also, I was listening to a 1-hour loop of Scenery while writing this and I REALLY SUGGEST LISTENING TO IT WHILE READING!! V saying “I want to make you mine” just made me uwu towards the end. T~T
———————————————————————
“Daegu, originally known as Taegu is the third largest city in South Korea to date. Our nickname is ‘Apple City’ due to the high quality of our apples and melons throughout the….”
You place your headphones in your ears in order to drown out the tour guide’s “fun facts” about Daegu and decided to enjoy the view on the bus ride. The landscape was gorgeous, the grass stretched all the way to the skyline, the mountains were draped with trees and the houses zoomed by the flicker of an eye. Moving away from the landscape you face your friend as she is attentively listening to the tour guide. You roll your eyes, of course, she would be interested in these things. You just wanted to get off this bus so you can take proper pictures of the countryside and interact with the people who live there. You find that being in the moment was so much better than listening to random facts that you can look up on the internet. Your friend looks at you with sparkles in her eyes, she’s moving her mouth but considering you have headphones on, you just pretend that you understand everything she is telling you. Eventually, she stops talking and looks at towards the tour guide once more. Taking off your headphones, your friend gestures towards the front of the bus as it stops at your exit. Sighing, you get up from the comfort of your chair and step off the bus into the dirt road below. The grassy fields reached up to your knees as you and your friend walk towards what looks like a market. As you follow her inside, you look around to see foreign products that you’ve never seen before. Suddenly, a civilian bumps into you as you look around the market. You give him a smile and proceed to have a conversation.
“Hey y/n, check this out! This market is so cool! I can’t wait to cook with these new ingredients. y/n? Are you even paying attention to me?”
You were too busy having a conversation with the local about the variety of kimchi presented in the market. The local was very handsome, he had sleek eyes and a sharp jawline as well as tan skin. He was carrying a crate of apples that were labeled “김 농장”, you assumed that he was a farmer since he told you that he was there to sell apples. He wasn’t fluent in English however he was able to keep up with your conversations with the use of gestures and key vocabulary words.
“Why you in Daegu?”
“My friend invited me to explore Korea with her! She likes K-pop and wanted to visit for a long time.”
“K-pop?”
“Yeah, it’s dumb I know haha…but for me, I wanted to see how pretty it is.”
“Daegu is pretty! Like you!”
Your face heats up from his sudden compliment and turn away in order to hide the redness growing on your face. The boy gives you a boxed smile as he hands the crate of apples to the owner of the market. Attention shifts from you to the owner as they discuss from what you assume, prices. Suddenly, you feel a tap on your shoulder. Looking towards that direction your face grows nervous as you see your friend with an angry look placed on her features.
“Really y/n? Don’t ditch me like that! I looked like I was crazy for talking to thin air.”
“Sorry. I just-”
“Oh no, no excuses from your mouth today! You fell asleep on the bus and didn’t talk to me during the bus ride! Now you ditched me in a market! Let’s go and have fun already!”
Before you could respond, your friend had dragged you out of the market by grabbing your wrist tightly. You looked back and see the farmer boy looking around in confusion before taking back an empty crate from the owner with a smile. A couple of hours have passed by as you and your friend walk around the town, Daegu was gorgeous. However, despite the sun setting upon the mountains coloring the sky with hues of pink, purple, orange and yellow, the only thing on your mind was that boy with the boxed smile. You only had a small interaction with him but the connection you had with was uncanny, strange and mysterious. He barely spoke English and you never learned Korean but you felt connected with him emotionally. His smile was unique, it was shaped like a rectangular box like a robot if you will. You laugh at the thought of him having a robotic smile catching the attention of your friend.
“What’s so funny y/n?”
“Oh nothing, haha!”
“Come on, spill it!”
Your friend stops walking and turns to face you with a frown on her face. Looking at her sudden action, you immediately stop laughing and tell her about the boy you met in the market a couple of hours ago. You explain his boxy smile and how it looked like a robot’s default mouth but also adding that it had a unique flair with a touch of mystery behind his cheeky grin. In addition, you add that he was local and probably a farmer. Your friend listens attentively as you both walk around the area and stop in front of a restaurant.
“Wanna grab a bite to eat before we head home?”
“Of course!”
“What’s this farmer’s name anyway?”
“…Well, I couldn’t get his name…”
“WHAT!? WHY?”
You glare at her as you enter the restaurant and wait for a waiter to sit you down. Seeing that she got the idea, she looks down and mumbles an apology which you laugh off. Why get mad at you friend when you probably won’t see that boy again? After being seated and tell the waiter what you would like to eat, you look around to see what the restaurant looked like. The lights were dimmed to match the night sky looming outside of the building, they were hanging from the ceiling and had a beautiful criss-cross pattern lamp shade covering them. People were talking to their friends, lovers or family around their table, over to the entrance of the restaurant there was a mini aquarium filled with colorful fishes. Next to the aquarium was a mini bar with a bartender taking orders from the people sitting on the bar stools. It was pretty, simple design, but pretty. After eating, you and your friend decided to walk around before heading to your place of stay to sleep for the rest of the night. As you were walking you spot a poster that was hanged on a pole by a civilian and your friend insisted on seeing what it was.
“Why would we read a poster that we couldn’t understand?”
“Oh hush y/n, I’ve been learning!”
“Through K-Dramas?”
“Shut up.”
You giggle at your friend’s comeback and stare at the sky while she attempts to decipher what the poster says. Hundreds no, billions of stars were placed before your eyes. It gave you a calming feeling, you can look at the bright stars shining before forever. And of course, the ‘forever’ you wanted was broken as your friend squeals in delight.
“I got it! I got it!”
“Solved the poster?”
“Duh! It says that there will be a lantern festival tomorrow night and we HAVE to go y/n!!!”
“But weren’t we gonna go shopping tomorrow night-”
“Well we were, but now we aren’t! Let’s just do it in the morning so we can find gorgeous outfits for the lantern festival!”
Before you knew it, your friend was dragging you to the festival in a cream colored dress. It was pretty you have to admit, it went all the way to your ankles and had lace trimmed at the end with buttons that climbed at the way from the bottom of the skirt to your chest. As soon as you got there, the sun was setting once more revealing the gorgeous color palette nature has gifted the world. Looking around the festival, you stop in awe at the variety of different lanterns that the vendors were selling by the minute, each vendor had different and unique colors they were selling.
“Hey y/n, how about these colors? They are gorgeous and not to mention, they are selling at a good price!”
“Oh yeah, they are gorgeous…”
“Stop looking at the sky dumbo, you’re gonna run into some-”
Before she could finish her sentence, you bumped In a local because you were too busy looking at the sky then your surroundings. Your friend rushes over to check on you as the local offers his hand to help you up. Before your friend could ask if you were okay, your eyes widen at the figure in front of you. It…it was that boy! That farmer boy who was selling apples to the owner and having a conversation with you before you were dragged away. He looks at you with the same expression on his face as he recognizes you. He was wearing a simple shirt with sleeves that reached his elbows and black jeans alongside with dark blue sneakers. Looking back at your friend, she simply stood there before realizing who that boy was and immediately smiles as she backs away into the crowd.
“Hey! You’re that apple boy from yesterday!”
“Apple…boy?”
“Oh…um well you were carrying apples at that time so I assumed that you farmed apples and-”
“Wow fast English, you good at it!”
You look at him sheepishly, forgetting that he wasn’t fluent like you were. Making gestures at the lanterns, you both head over to the variety of lanterns available before choosing a purple lantern that you both shared. Seeing that your friend was no longer around you decided to stick with the boy, whose name you had learned was Taehyung, for the rest of the festival. You explored the different types of sweets and street food with him as he laughed every time he made you eat something spicy. You smiled at his laughter even though you were mad at him for making you try foods without warning you. You were happy at the fact you were making him happy. As hours go by you learn more about each other through broken English and hand gestures, one particular story Taehyung had told you made you feel the need to comfort him. Apparently, he had auditioned in Seoul to become a K-pop star but didn’t get accepted to any of the companies. He was upset because he had worked his butt off to at least get into one company and saved up his money for a trip to Seoul. He explained he was so sure that he would get in that he only got enough money for a one-way ticket but was heartbroken when he had to call his grandmother to come and get him from the motel he was staying at for the night. That was the final story he told you before you sat down on a nearby bench.
“I feel so bad you had to go through that.”
“It’s ok, I like Daegu.”
“Well, I think you are really cool and talented still.”
“You never heard me sing yet.”
He looks at you with an amused grin causing you to look away in embarrassment because your attempt to comfort him had failed. He smiles at you and places his hands on your shoulders in order to make you look at him. He gestures at the lantern and towards the crowd, people were lighting their lanterns in order to get ready to release them to towards the sky. You grab your lantern as he gets the lighter and ignite it. You were still crestfallen at your failed attempt until Taehyung places his hand in yours.
“Thank you…for making me feel-”
People started to cheer on as they release their lanterns filling the sky with bright colors. You looked at Taehyung to let him finish his sentence but he was already gesturing for you to hold onto the lantern with him. At the same moment, you release the purple lantern together and watch it fly up to join the other thousands of lanterns making it way up to the sky. You stare in awe until a familiar hand reaches for yours. You look up at the boy who was already staring at you with a smile on his face. Blushing at his smile, you can’t help but hug the poor boy in last attempts to comfort him. He was caught by surprise at the sudden intimate action but returned your hug nevertheless. You both stay there, comfortable with the presence of each other. Despite only knowing each other for a day, you both felt connected with each other even though there was a language barrier. Moving away from his chest, hands still on each other’s waist you look around to see that the lanterns that were floating throughout the sky seemed to have come down and surrounded you both.
“You didn’t finish your sentence Taehyung.”
“Well, I want to say, thank you”
“Thank you for what?”
Tumblr media
“For making me happy.”
