jack and joke are soulmates in a way that is so exclusive yet contradictory to each other. it's the way no one can understand them like each other and the way no one can misunderstand them like each other. they know exactly what the other needs, at the same time they don't know how to be what the other needs. Both of them know their shortcomings, neither believe they're perfect. And each hurt they cause the other is a miscalculated one yet inflicted with awareness, each wound they heal for the other is the exact way the other wants it to be healed.
Choosing to open up to Jack about what he did at the hospital of all places was an act of driving a double-ended sword. As he stabs himself, he stabs jack too— only strangers stab you in the back, Joke stabs Jack in the front; jack saw it coming and he didn't at the same time. Joke's self destructive tendencies, his inability to forgive himself, makes him develop trust issues that prevent him from opening up and this indirectly sabotages the relationship before it starts.
As ama puts it, he trades Jack's freedom for never getting to see him again. the understanding of hurt inflicted is lodged within it. Jack never wanted to have his freedom stolen back without his knowledge. The culmination of all the stress and trauma and information he recieves in half a day leads to his outburst— to ask joke to never show his face again; this was the only way he could return the pain and inflict it on himself at the same time— by isolating (and he not only isolated from Joke but from his friends, only choosing to act with Save). Joke took his word for it this time because he loves Jack more than he did the first time they met, he believes himself to be the thorn in every relationship because all his solutions involve stealing— the one thing Jack asked him to stop doing.
both of them are traumatised and emotionally unstable due to what happened in the span of literally a day. Joke is so consumed by his guilt, he only wants to hurt himself thinking it will fix everything, Jack is so consumed by his pain he too goes to literally hurt himself in the hands of Boss' men thinking violence will give him answers as to why his life just turned upside down. And that moment between the life-and-death of their relationship, at the hospital, their pains gave rise to the worst possible misunderstanding for the moment. Jack's feeling of betrayal and saying things he doesn't mean, Joke's all-consuming guilt and not giving Jack the full story.

PART 3
Chapter 7
Matt was drunk.
It wasn’t a state of being that he enjoyed. And it definitely wasn’t one he found himself in often - he relied on his senses and reflexes too much to dull them with alcohol. But some situations in life called for the oblivion of being shit-faced. Like bonding with your new best friend in college. Celebrating passing the Bar.
And finding out the woman you love is a lying murderer.
Matt downed the liquor in his glass - no longer feeling the burn as it slid down his throat - and motioned the bartender for another.
“You sure that’s a good idea?” The voice came from behind him, the dry, mocking monotone instantly recognisable.
Jessica Jones.
“Whatta you doing here?” he asked, as she took the stool next to him.
“I should be asking you that. This is my regular joint, not yours.” To prove her point, she nodded to the bartender, who immediately plucked a bottle of Jack Daniels from the shelf and placed it in front of her. “Thanks, Diego.”
Matt snatched the bottle and poured a fifth into his own glass.
Jessica quickly grabbed it back. “You’re lucky I’m in a generous mood, Murdock, otherwise I would have smashed this over your head.”
“No, you wouldn’t,” Matt muttered.
Jessica laughed. “No. I have a thing against picking on pathetic, sad-sack lawyers when they’re drowning their sorrows.”
“Everyone’s gotta have principles.” Matt meant it as a joke, but the words just served to remind him of why everything had gone so wrong tonight.
“You wanna talk about it?” Jessica asked, her voice uncharacteristically kind.
Matt scrubbed a hand over his face. The move dislodged his glasses, so he yanked them off and dropped them on the bar in front of him. He’d gone straight home after the confrontation with Calina, knowing that he wasn’t in the right headspace to be out as Daredevil. He’d shoved on his sweats then started pacing his apartment, too wound up to relax.
That’s when he’d realised he needed a drink. He needed to blunt all the anger and the pain and the misery he was feeling before it drove him to do something reckless. Something violent.
Like storm that warehouse in Jersey and beat every living soul in it to pieces.
So he’d found himself here instead, in this half-deserted, dreary, run-down bar. Which was apparently Jessica Jones’ favourite hang-out.
That fit.
“Matt?” she prompted. “Is there something I should know about? Are you here getting smashed because the world is going to end thanks to a shady multinational cabal of evil immortals? Again.”
“No. The world’s not ending. Just my relationship.” Matt shook his head. “Maybe.”
He wasn’t sure where he stood with Calina now. Was there hope for them? Could they salvage what they used to have with this difference of opinion hanging over them?
Matt laughed to himself. The phrase ‘difference of opinion’ was doing a lot of heavy lifting - they didn’t disagree on furniture layout, or whether pineapple belonged on pizza. They disagreed on the very sanctity of life. On the fundamental issue right and wrong.
Could they ever get passed that?
“You and Calina?” Jessica guessed.
“Yeah.”
“Well. Fuck.”
Matt laughed again. “Yeah. Fuck.”
“What happened?”
“She’s a murderous lying liar. The usual.”
Jessica reeled back. “What are you talking about? She seemed so…nice.”
Matt laughed. “She is nice. She’s really nice. And kind, and generous, and smart, and funny. And she smells so fucking good. But she’s also a trained assassin.”
“Are you serious?” Jessica whispered, leaning close so the few other patrons scattered around the bar couldn’t hear. “Did you just find out?”
Matt swirled the dregs of the alcohol in his glass. “No. I’ve known for a while. She’s a Black Widow - trying to go straight. But her former boss is after her, so she’s…taking care of it.”
Part of Matt knew that he shouldn’t be revealing all of Calina’s secrets like this. But another part of him knew that he could trust Jessica - she’d kept his secret all this time, after all.
Besides, he needed to talk to someone about this. He needed to lay out his argument and hear from someone else that he wasn’t over-reacting. That he wasn’t being overly judgemental.
That his goddam principles hadn’t fucked things up for no reason.
Jessica glanced around the room again. Then she grabbed Matt’s arm and pulled him to his feet. “I think we need some privacy for this. Come on, I’ll walk you home.”
Matt stumbled out of the bar, grateful for Jessica’s strong grip as she guided him back to his apartment. They were quiet as they walked, and Matt used the time to try to sober up - he wanted to be more lucid when he pled his case.
So he breathed deeply, turned his face into the wind, and let the crisp night air shock his system. And when they arrived back at his place he went straight for the coffee machine in the corner of the kitchen. “You want some?” he asked his guest.
Jessica pulled a flask from her jacket pocket. “I’ll stick to this - I’m not a light-weight like you.”
Matt rolled his eyes and finished fixing his drink. Then he collapsed onto the sofa and took a large sip, ignoring the burn to his tongue.
Jessica took the seat opposite. She leaned forward, hands dangling between her spread legs. “Okay, Murdock. Talk.”
Matt took another drink…and did just that. He explained how he'd discovered Calina’s secret. The nature of the Widow program and the Red Room. The mind control. Calina’s escape from that life and the current situation with Volkov.
Everything.
As he finally got to their fight tonight, Matt’s anger re-ignited. He stood up and started pacing the living room. “Now she’s dead set on this plan to murder a man in cold blood! And she expects me to just stand by and let it happen!”
“Wow,” Jessica said, following his movements
“I know!”
“You’ve really got a stick up your ass about not killing people the people who need killing.”
“That’s what you took from that?”
She just shrugged.
“And nobody needs killing,” Matt added coming to a stop. He rested his fists on his hips as he stared down at the woman opposite.
Jessica screwed the cap back on her flask and stowed it back in her jacket, her movements slow and deliberate. Then she stood up and crossed her arms over her chest, pinning him with a stare. “Some people do.”
Matt paused, thrown by the change in her demeanour. Her mocking indifference had mutated into complete seriousness. And that’s when he realised, “You’re talking about Kilgrave.” Matt remembered hearing about the incident that had turned Jessica Jones into a Hell’s Kitchen celebrity.
“That man ruined my life, Matt. He stole my body. My mind. And he used me in a hundred different ways. Which fucked me up in a hundred different ways. Ways that you’ll never understand. But Calina would. She knows what that feels like. Which means I know exactly where she’s coming from. I know exactly why she wants this Volkov guy dead. Some people just don’t deserve their time on this earth.”
“But it’s not up to us to decide that.”
“You decide it all the time.”
“No, I don’t.”
“Every time you spare someone, you’re making that decision. You’re deciding that they get to live. And potentially go on to harm others.”
Matt folded his arms. “The lack of action isn’t an action. Its only the act that is wrong.”
Jessica raised an eyebrow. “Says who? God? Because we don’t all believe in him, you know.”
“What about the law? Do you believe in that?”
“To a point. But you break the law all the time - when you deem it unjust.” She shrugged one shoulder. “A bit hypocritical if you ask me.”
Matt started pacing again, his movements less fevered than before. Jessica was making some of the same arguments as Calina…and they were starting to penetrate. But he still felt such a strong revolt in his soul at the thought of Calina killing people.
And lying to him about it.
And he couldn’t separate one from the other. He couldn’t figure out which sin was angering him the most.
And whether he could let either one of them go.
———
That anger stayed with him through the rest of the night. After Jessica left, and Matt was once again alone in his apartment, the burning fire in his gut kept him awake. And when he arrived at work, he couldn’t hide his mood from his partner.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” Foggy yelled after Matt slammed down the phone on one of their clients. “Do I need to remind you that he’s one of the few people we represent who can actually pay us?”
“He’s a scumbag.”
“Yes. But he’s a scumbag with money. We can only afford all the pro bono work you love so much by occasionally putting up with assholes like Anderson.”
Matt shoved at his desk, the pile of papers on the edge toppling to the floor. “I’m so fucking sick of having to compromise like that.”
Foggy held up his hands. “Whoa, where is this coming from? What’s going on with you today?”
Matt raked his hands through his hair, then sighed. “Calina and I had a fight last night. A big one.”
Foggy shrugged. “So you’ll work it out. You always do.”
“I’m not so sure, Fog.” Matt sank back in his chair, suddenly feeling exhausted. “I found out some things,” he continued, explaining about the Widow’s plans for Volkov, and Calina’s body count since being free of the Red Room.
Retelling the story twice in 12 hours merely served to stoke the outrage within him. But Foggy seemed annoyingly unperturbed. “It didn’t occur to you that their plan involved killing these guys?” he asked. “C’mon, you’re not that naive, Matt.”
Matt picked up the pencil in front of him and started twirling it around, the fidgety action helping him focus as he thought through Foggy’s question. And he quickly came to a realisation. “I was in denial,” he said, shaking his head. “I forced myself not to think about it. Like that night when Calina was under the mind control - I always knew there was something off about her story, but I let it go. I didn’t want to pull at that thread because I was scared of what I would find. I just…I didn’t want to go through it all again, Foggy.”
“What do you mean?”
Matt paused. Then spat out a single word. “Elektra.”
Foggy groaned, “Matt-”
“You said so yourself,” Matt interrupted. “The two of them are so similar. And now I’m back to trying to convince the woman I love not to be a fucking murderer! I’m back in the exact same place!” The pencil in his hand snapped as he clenched his fist.
“This is not the same thing at all!”
“How is it different?” he yelled.
“Because Calina is a good person! Despite all the shit she’s been through, she’s a good person.”
“You barely know her, Fog”
“It doesn’t matter - because I can see the effect she has on you. Elektra brought out the darkness in you, but Calina brings out your light. I’ve never seen you like this with anyone before. These last six months, you’ve been like a different person. You’ve been…balanced. You’ve been happy!”
“Because I didn’t know who she really was!”
“That’s bullshit, Matt. Do you honestly believe she relishes killing people? That she gets off on it, like some psycho? Or is she just a woman trying to escape an unbelievably violent and abusive past who’s had to make some difficult choices?”
Matt leaned forward and rested his elbows on the desk, then dropped his head into his hands. Of course, he didn’t think that Calina enjoyed killing, or sought it out. He just couldn’t explain why this was bothering him so much.
Foggy obviously couldn’t understand it either. Matt could sense him shaking his head as he looked at him from across the desk. “I don’t get it, Matt. I thought you’d become less…rigid…about this over the past year. Karen thought so too - that’s why she finally felt like she could tell you what happened between her and Wesley. And it didn’t affect your friendship, did it? You didn’t think less of her because of what she did?”
“No,” Matt admitted, clenching fistfuls of his hair.
“And Jessica Jones. You’re friends with her - as much as anyone can be friends with her - and she very publicly and famously killed someone.”
“I know,” he ground out.
“So what’s going on? Why is it so different with Calina?”
Matt suddenly exploded out of his chair. “Because she lied to me! She lied to me for months about killing a man 30 feet away from my apartment. And if I hadn’t asked about Volkvo she would have lied about that too. She lies so easily, its like breathing for her.”
Foggy cocked his head, and studied Matt for a few beats. “What bothers you more - the lying or the fact that you couldn’t tell?”
“Why does that matter?”
“The majority of the human race isn’t a walking lie-detector like you, Matt. We have to live with never knowing if someone is telling the truth. We have to take what people say on faith. I thought a good Catholic like you would be more used to that.”
“Get to the point,” Matt said, through gritted teeth.
“The point is, it seems you’re blaming her as much for her ability to lie, as the lies themselves. And its not exactly her fault that she can lie so well - its the way she was trained.”
“But she still lied, Foggy.”
“I know. And you have a right to be angry about that. You just need to decide if you can forgive her. And whether you can trust her going forward - without the crutch of bring able to monitor her heart rate or whatever it is you do to pick up lies. Do you think that’s possible?”
Matt closed his eyes and hung his head, his anger dissipating. It had been nothing more than a smoke screen, really. A distraction from what he’d really been feeling:
Fear.
Because he didn’t know if he could trust Calina ever again.
And he was terrified of what that meant for them.
———
Matt’s fist hit the leather punching bag with a satisfying slap.
The impact on his bare knuckles was just the kind of pain he was looking for, and he relished the sting from his split skin as he hit the bag again. And again. And again.
Then he kicked it, hard enough to send it swinging away from him, and followed up with a fierce one-two jab. He bounced lightly on his feet, sparring with the inanimate object, whilst trying with every bit of his strength to ignore the scent swirling in the air around him.
He’d arrived at Fogwell’s an hour ago, after Foggy had kicked him out of the office. Apparently, he was too much of a liability to the firm in his ‘current emotional state’. In other words, Foggy didn’t want him jeopardising another one of their revenue streams.
So he’d headed straight for the gym, knowing that his mind always worked through a problem best  when he was in motion. Even better when he was hitting something. But, unfortunately, the moment he’d entered the old building, Calina’s lingering fragrance had hit him.
Which did nothing to improve his thought processes…or his ‘emotional state’.
He’d tried to block it out as much as he could while he got changed and started his work-out, but after so many weeks living apart, his sensitivity to her - her smell, the sound of her voice, the cadence of her heart beat - had magnified. Like a cell phone searching for a signal in a black spot, a part of his mind had always been tuned to her, subconsciously seeking her out everywhere he went - in a crowd on the street; in the queue at the coffee shop; on his rooftop at night.
Which meant there was no escape from the torment of her phantom presence in this musty old gym.
Matt stepped away from the bag with a growl of frustration. It didn’t help that this was the site of their fight last night. He could still taste the adrenaline on the air. The angry, bitter words still seemed to echo off the walls.
He could still hear the sound of Calina’s footsteps as she walked away.
The argument replayed itself in his mind as he sat on the edge of the boxing ring, the sweat cooling on his skin.
And he kept coming back to one thing. A confession from Calina that had shocked him in the moment, but which he hadn’t fully processed until now:
“They strapped us down and ripped out our reproductive organs. Because we were just things to them. To men like Volkov, we were nothing.”
Matt scrubbed his hands over his face as the horrific words rang out in his mind. He’d seen some barbaric stuff over the years, acts of cruelty that had him questioning his faith in humanity and a higher power. But he’d never heard of anything so callously and brutally inhumane.
And the fact that it had happened to his Calina…it was unspeakably awful. He kept picturing her as a teenager, strapped to a gurney as she was violated in that way…
It made him sick.
And it proved her point.
They did come from two very different worlds. And they had lived very different lives. Which meant he had no right to pass judgement on her actions. To question how she found justice or ensured her safety.
No right at all.
But did it change anything?
He’d already realised earlier today that her decision to kill Volkov and his men wasn’t the main issue they faced.
It was the lies.
Or more accurately, it was the lack of trust between them - on both sides. He couldn’t trust that she was telling him the truth. And she couldn’t trust him to handle her darker secrets.
Matt lay back on the floor of the ring, his head resting on a crooked arm, as he tried to work through his end of the problem.
Could he trust her? Without the crutch of his abilities, could he ever take what she said on faith again?
He just didn’t know.
He’d been burned too many times in the past by the people he loved. It had started as far back as he could remember with his Dad, and the lies about his mother. Then his mother had perpetuated those lies after he’d been taken in by the orphanage. Father Lantom had helped. Then there was Stick, and Elektra…
His ability to believe in people had been eroded, bit by bit, over decades. With each newly uncovered lie, with every sin of omission and act of betrayal, the last vestiges of his trust had been shaved away, until he was just a mass of jagged edges.
He’d thought those edges had finally started to smooth out thanks to Calina. He’d found himself opening up to her, letting himself be vulnerable.
Only to be betrayed again.
Could he forgive that and move on? Could he learn to trust her - fully and completely?
If not…what was the alternative?
Matt forced himself to imagine that alternative - a life without Calina. A future without her. No more warm presence in his apartment. No more talks over dinner. No more lazy evenings on the couch, his head in her lap while she read to him. No more sparring in the gym, or laughing beneath the sheets of his bed.
Her scent…gone. Her soft skin…gone. That feeling that he’d had almost from the moment they’d met, of a kindred spirit, someone who understood him, someone he could cherish and build a life with…all gone.
It was unbearable.
He rubbed at his chest, the thought of that emptiness, that loss, causing a physical pain deep in his soul.
What they had was too precious, too special to throw away so easily. He wanted to be with her. Despite her actions, he still loved her.
No, that wasn’t fair.
Her actions had shaped her into the woman he’d fallen in love with. He couldn’t dismiss them so easily.
And he did love her. He loved her bravery. He loved her mind, and her sweet, kind nature. He loved her loyalty to her sisters, and her off-beat humour, and her wide-eyed wonder at the world.
And, yes, he may have once held her on a pedestal - she was right to accuse him of that. But the plinth beneath her feet had crumbled…and he loved her still. Despite of it, and because of it.
And he didn’t want to lose her.
He would accept her decision regarding Volkov. And he would try like hell to trust her going forward. Because she didn’t deserve to bear the brunt of a lifetime of broken trust.
He need to get over it. If he had any hope of happiness, he needed to fucking get over it.
Matt quickly sat up and started rummaging through his gym bag for his phone. They needed to talk. It was time to really talk - not just argue and go around in circles. They needed to clear the air and get their relationship back on track.
Because he couldn’t lose her.
It was as simple as that.
Finally locating the device, Matt dialled her number, and waited to hear her beautiful voice.

Hellsite Nostalgia Tour 2024 Day 325
Jack In the Box/Orphan 55
“Jack In the Box”
Plot Description: After the Winchesters mourn a fallen hunter, Jack tries to right his wrongs until a dearth of angels in Heaven forces him to use his powers
Would I Survive the First Five Minutes??: were I a wraith, I wouldn’t stand a chance against Bobby
Who are these people?! I thought all the apocalypse world people died, but I’m glad there are people here for Mary’s memorial
Yeah, Dean’s not a public griever…and that includes in front of Sam, Cas, and Bobby
Ketch mention. They remembered he exists
I would hate to be in Jack’s shoes rn. Between the actual guilt he is feeling over Mary and the Lucifer inside his head
Oh Deeeeean. Deeeeeeeeeeean 💔😭
Heaven is, unsurprisingly, still no fan of Castiel
I’m so suspicious of Dumah right now. Is she probably doing the right thing in the greater good sense, but is she doing….not great things in the meantime? Oh yeah. She’s an Old Testament type angel, having Jack turn a dude into a pillar of salt
He’s so impressionable, and Dumah wants him to make more angels. With no actual instructions
Oh no oh no oh no….that’s disturbing. I don’t want to watch a dude have worms emerge from his skin…oh he’s in the HOSPITAL hospital
Omg the box Dean built to contain him and Michael…I hate what this has come to. Dean wants to lie to Jack about a spell that will fix his souls to get him to agree to be contained til they have everything they need…but there is no spell
I don’t blame Dumah, but she should have known better than to threaten Mary and John’s souls to Castiel
It’s so hard for the Winchesters to hide their hurt, especially when Jack is so placid. Like, yes, he SAYS he regrets what he did but…….
This is so hard to watch. Jack is still so earnest, and the boys…they seem like they hate that it’s come to this but it’s the only thing that will work
Not to make light of this scared kid trapped in this box that can and will hold anything, crying out for the people who swore to protect him, but it is feeling a little like when I had to close my bedroom door with Meg on the outside so I could hang some lights in peace and she meowed incessantly from the other side of the door
The sheer amount of betrayal in this one episode
Oh!! Is he going to burn through the Ma’lak box?! Oh this backfired on the Winchesters BIG TIME. I was thinking earlier about how this season, the penultimate season, was feeling a little disjointed and even anticlimactic since Michael was vanquished, but having to go up against Jack who has been manipulated and betrayed so much. I’m excited for the season finale
“Orphan 55”
Plot Description: A luxury holiday on an alien planet beckons for the Doctor and friends. But their stay at Tranquility Spa becomes a fight for survival against terrifying monsters
The welcome is giving Fantasy Island and specifically the reboot
Already things are going wrong?!?! Both behind the scenes of the spa and with Ryan
Why is the spa under attack?!
They were not joking when they said terrifying monsters
Oh cool. They built the spa in a place where they REALLY shouldn’t have…even the atmosphere isn’t compatible. So of course the indigenous population doesn’t want them there
I was wondering why the episode was called that. It’s the name of the planet they’re on. It’s a planet that’s become too toxic for life but this species adapted
Awkwardly ace Doctor strikes again. She could not recognize that Ryan and that girl were…maybe flirting is the wrong word but getting to know each other because they’re both interested
Oh I don’t think Benni and this lady will be getting married, even though they came all this way for him
Touya would be disappointed to hear this from me, but if I felt abandoned by a parent, I don’t think my go to would be “go undercover and try to kill them while burning their work to the ground.” I would take less drastic routes, but the girl Ryan was chatting up should definitely have fun traumatizing her mom (the spa owner) back
Orphan 55 is Earth?! I don’t know how I didn’t see that coming
The old lady sacrificed herself for the group because she couldn’t run and made them use too much oxygen 😭😭
Can people stop sacrificing themselves for FIVE FUCKING MINUTES?!
Tumblr media
These are mutated humans…I mean, I guess I buy it, they sure are featherless bipeds
I wouldn’t blame ALL of this on Bella (the now former owner’s estranged daughter)
Oh shit! The owner didn’t die!! And she saved her daughter…kinda
This is a little bit of a heavy handed global warming lesson at the end

I think remember in the show that Jack mentioned the ecto-acne really killed Vlad street cred, as if Vlad kept going to class and trying to socialize.
Personally one of the horrors I thought of is Vlad going back to the college cause the hospital couldn't find him to be contagious and Jack/Maddie straight up ditching him because in the week he was at the hospital they started dating and are now completely involved/focused on eachother
OR
Jack -makes fun of Harriet Chin as a grown adult oblivious how his comments are hurtful-Fenton makes awful jokes at Vlad's expense or hangs out with people that bully Vlad like everything is fine until Vlad has enough of his best friend treating him like trash and leaves. Which finally makes Jack realise what hes done.
Like, just imagine it.
Jack-oblivious to social cues-Fenton.just cracking jokes or stating obvious things . Vlad mentions how he wanted o talk to a girl from his class and she keeps avoiding him...
"Well of course she does! You look like a pepperoni pizza! She was probably disgusted by your incredibly greezy boils!"
*slaps Vlad on the back happily as he walks away*
"...right..."
Or if Jack gets invited to a college party but is told not to invite Vlad cause the others find him gross...
"Heading out V-Man! Party at John's tongiht!!"
"Oh! Let me grab my keys :)"
"No can do buddy. They said your not invited on account of you being a disgusting freak! Bye!!!"
"...oh."
Like Vlad KNOWS Jack. He knows his best freind is a little, socially blind. And probably doesn't mean all the harm he's been doing. But it's just getting too much. It's getting isolating. He already faces jeers from his classmates but now he has to face it in his own apartment??? But he can handle it. He's Vlad Masters. Who cares that Jack hasnt apologized yet. EvenOnce. He probably forgot. Thats not insulting. Ruin a man's life, date the girl he had a crush on and just COMPLETELY FORGET your part in all of it. It's fine. It's fine. At least they're all still freinds. At least he still as them. Hes not completely alone. And Maddie does her best to keep Jackin check when she can. And she always looks awkward when Jack makes his 'jokes' at Vlad's expense or sides with people insulting him...but it's fine. Really.
And then, one day. Mabye its one of the worst days for Vlad. When it's just been going on for too long or his professor said something insulting to him because of his new look or the Hospital called to tell him they needed him back for more tests, or his peers just really ganged up on the jeers today and jack...cracks another joke
And Vlad has had enough. He's ready to curse Jack out. To yell. Let him really REALLY have it- but before he can, theres a snort of laughter. The sound of someone instinctively laughing before trying to cover it up. And its Maddie.
The betrayal. Vlad is just standing there in shock. He had accepted his freindship with Jack had breaking over the past couple weeks. Accepted Jack didnt have his back, but Maddie??? Maddie? The one sane person on the campus who was suppose to understand him and see him and NOT be awful to him? Her??
Jack is thrilled he got Maddie to laugh and is trying to get more laughter out of her. And Vlad just focuses all his hatred on Jack. Because this is HIS fault. Its HIS fault he's like this. HIS fault the student body wont leave him alone. His fault he's not accepted anymore. HIS fault Maddie...he corrupted her. It's all HIS fault.
That night, Vlad leaves. He packs everything up in silence, and phases everything out with his ghost powers. Jack wakes up the next day to an apartment empty of Vlad.
Jack gets nervous, where's Vlad? Management didnt approve an early check out, why hasnt he called? Or left a note? Golly, do you think he was hurt? Kidnapped?!
Jack is ranting about his worries to a friend group and one of them makes a nasty comment like " what do you care? I'd be glad that freak face is gone. No longer spreading his gross germs on everything"
And jack is shocked "THATS MY FRIEND! DONT TALK ABOUT HIM THAT WAY!"
And the group is taken back "...why not?havent you been making comments like that since he got out of the hospital?"
And that's when it hits Jack. Right there on the picnic bench in front of a group of people who have been talking nasty about his best freind just EXACTLY what he had done.
"Oh no."
I think it explains a lot why Vlad hates Jack, why he give Maddie a pass, why Jack could never bring himself to reach out to Vlad. Cause if your best freind had to sneak out in the middle of the night to get AWAY from YOU, would you feel entitled to chase them down when you found out why they left? I wouldnt. I'd stay away until they reached out to me.
But that's just my terrible theory.
Poll time! What's your personal headcanon for the proto-portal accident?
Do you believe that Jack and Maddie felt guilty or thought that Vlad was mad at them and that's why they never visited him in the hospital?
Or do you think that they actually did try to visit him, but weren't allowed in the hospital due to how contagious and unknown the ecto-acne disease was, and Vlad just didn't know about their attempts at visiting? Or they tried to visit but Vlad wouldn't let them in because he was mad at them at the time (and then got mad they didn't reach out later)?

HEY WHAT THE FUCK, MACGYVER (2016), I REALLY LIKED PATRICIA THORNTON!! HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME???
(all jokes aside i'm holding out hope that she's secretly still on the good side / will still show up. That one episode with the train where she was out in the field and going after that german guy really solidified her as my fav. I LOVE very polished/professional women who are secretly unhinged.)
The firepit gathering was subdued today. Everyone's a little too tired to hide their respective confusion and betrayals. For Riley and Bozer, a few months and weeks respectively.
Those two turned in early, silently communicating and conspiring to leave the other two members of their team alone.
For Mac and Jack though, years of trust have just disappeared. Dealing with Nikki's betrayal had been difficult enough for Mac, and now trying to turn it on its heel and then push those feelings on Thornton?
Close to impossible.
A heavy hand rests on Mac's thigh and he sighs. "You doin' okay, kid?"
With slow movements, Mac nods back. "Yeah. Just still wrapping my head around it, I guess."
Exhaling with enough force to make the fire cower in front of them, Jack murmurs, "Think I'm gonna need some more time to deal with it too."
"Do you think it was her plan from the start?"
It takes a beat of silence for Jack to answer. "Honestly kid, I got no idea."
"Do you think she wanted us because of some nefarious plan?"
"If she did, it ain't your job to worry about it."
Mac can't help but let a frown come across his face. "I guess."
"No guessing," Jack corrects, nudging Mac's shoulder. "You better know it. Not everything is on you. The weight of the world ain't on your shoulders, bud."
To tell you the truth, I think basically everyone in this fandom had that same moment when Thornton was revealed to be a bad guy. It was pretty unsatisfying for everyone, and the fact that it made Nikki good? Ough. Gross.
But hey, it gives room for Matty, who you'll come to love! And same lmao polished and hard as stone women are ✨

HOLY SHIT, THAT WAS GREAT
This was beautiful and sad at the same time…
“One thing I’ve never done was listen to you”
Just Tommy finally understanding his worst enemy and seeing: they both weren’t so different…. He finally understands it all, he apologised, they were going to be on the same side, Dream and Tommy finally would become friends! Tommy sees that Dream just wanted to be happy, just wanted George and Sapnap back, just wanted the good old times back( not even a god could do this), just not wanted to be alone, just one big family… And Dream felt understood, he seems to trust Tommy, he saw a chance in finally gaining his big goal, the reason why he was evil, why he hated Tommy so much, why everything went wrong….
“TOMMY, WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU DO?!”
Of course we won’t get our happy ending…of course this sweet moment had to end and holy shit, after all that I’m getting trauma by loud alerts… those.fucking.nukes… it was obviously this is gonna happen but still… Dreams voice of pure panic and betrayal, trying to flee out of his own home, own prison, own hell; Tommys voice, so…sad and full of regret over losing a new gained friend, his enemy who isn’t his enemy anymore, losing his best friend Tubbo, losing his happy ending… knowing he’s gonna die any second…
“It’s too late, Dream”
White…
Nothing…
Just Tommy beating up a tree, Tubbo somehow watches him, Dream appears behind him
“Wanna be friends?”
Season 2
I can’t believe the Dream SMP- the fandom I’m in since 1 1/2 years- is actually over now
That thing actually changed my life… This is the reason why I still do art, this actually taught me so many things, this gave me something in life-and I don’t know what- and this made my english grade four times better… it sounds awful, but… I felt home… one big family… even tho it just were Philza helping me to calm down after a fight with my parents, Tommy just messing around and forgetting about life, Technoblade and his dumb jokes helping me through the hardest times of my life, Dream against the whole world but never giving up or Ranboo living who he is and be happy and so many other people… I don’t know yet if I’m going to leave the fandom, I could say I’m free now and it’s the perfect time to change things or maybe I’ll stay and annoy all my friends with it… Who knows…
AAAAAAAAH! THIS ALL MADE ME SOB SO BAD! Like what happened to Punz and Jack?! Why weren’t they in the new world?! Happy c!disc duo incoming?! Will Punz and Dream still be friends? (Please, I need to ship them) Will Dream turn evil again or actually be one of the main protagonists? What will happen to the good old #dreblr? Will season 2 be as angsty as season 1 was? How is it supposed to be fun without Techno? What will happen to all the animatics I still haven’t finished since a year? At least I have a month til’ Christmas to finish it and upload, but I have so many questions and no answers…

Holding On - Lonnie Machin Imagine (Arrow)
Tumblr media
Title: Holding On
Pairing: Lonnie Machin X Reader
Requested: nope
Word Count: 1,598 words
Warning(s): family abandonment, crime, mentions of kidnapping and violence
Summary: (Y/n) Queen had been largely cut out of their family's life after leaving home for reasons having to do with their mother. Once Oliver comes home and doesn't seem to actually accept (Y/n) into the family, (Y/n) accepts that being a Queen is no longer their fate. Thankfully, (Y/n) isn't alone with this betrayal.
Author's Note: What? I have a type? A thing for Alexander Calvert? *looks at my collection of Jack Kline imagines* I don't know what you're talking about.
...I changed the ending of season 4, episode 2
Also, I added so much shit to the canon of this character's story in the show. I mean... it's a lot. Enjoy!
-------------------------------------
--Season 1--
I nervously tapped on the table of the restaurant.
I didn't want to see Oliver for the first time with my mom and sister. I wanted to properly talk to him.
"Hi (Y/n)," I turned in my chair to see my brother standing there with a small grin on his face.
"Oliver," I smiled, standing up and hugging him. I sighed at the feeling of seeing my brother again. I blinked back my tears.
Of the members of our family, Oliver had treated me the best... to the point where he sometimes babied me a little more than necessary.
I stood back, looking at him.
"Thank God you cut your hair," I joked. He chuckled before going to sit across from me. "It's really nice to see you."
"You too," he said.
We had just ordered some food when he decided to speak again.
"So, I heard Mom's story," he explained, "what happened?"
"You know how we are," I replied. "Always fighting and then Thea started getting involved. It was like they were poking at me, trying to get me to snap. Finally, Mom and Thea decided to mock everything about me; my clothes, my dreams, all of it. I left. I packed up and left."
"Oh," Oliver furrowed his eyebrows.
"What?"
"That's not what either one of them says," he replied. "They say that you were just gone one night."
"Nice, I'm a runaway now," I rolled my eyes.
"Maybe you should talk to them," he added.
"Ollie, it's been two years since I left," I said. "I tried to talk for three years after you left. I... I can't do that to myself anymore."
Oliver reached over and grabbed my hand. It was only for a second before his phone went off. I sighed lightly.
"Sorry," he checked it quickly. He stood up abruptly.
"What is it," I asked.
"It's... It's nothing, I've got to go," he said. "I'll call you later tonight, okay? I saved your number earlier."
I nodded and watched him run out. The waiter came over with our plates.
"Umm, can you pack those up and bring me a check," I asked. The waiter nodded.
Another few minutes passed before I paid and got to leave with the uneaten food.
Over the following few weeks, I kept trying to schedule a time to see Oliver. It was always Thea or Moria or Laurel or Tommy or just "work".
I just gave up after a while. He clearly didn't want to see me. I didn't know what they said about me but it seemed to get into his head.
I was walking home after another failed attempt to see my brother. We were going to see a movie. He even talked me into inviting Thea. She canceled because of her boyfriend. He canceled because of work.
I dragged my feet toward my apartment door. I was sniffling but the tears rolling down my cheeks were silent. I had a bag of popcorn in my arm and had tucked Oliver and Thea's favorite snacks into my jacket pockets.
I muttered out a "shit" when my keys fell from my hand.
"Here," a man knelt in front of me and grabbed the keys for me, even going as far as to unlock the door.
He was blonde, a little scruff on his chin, blue eyes that made my breath stop, and a gentle smile. I was suddenly aware of how gross I probably looked.
"Umm, thanks," I muttered, grabbing the key and holding the door open with my shoulder.
"You looked like you needed the help," he shrugged. "You alright?"
"Umm, yeah, yeah, rough night is all," I replied. "Thanks again. Umm..."
I reached into one of my pockets before pulling out a pack of Sour Patch Kids I had gotten for Thea.
"I... umm... I won't eat them," I rambled. "It's a 'thank you'. I'd give you the Lifesavers but I... I kinda want those."
The man chuckled, accepting the candy, "These are great."
There was another moment of silence. He reached a hand out to me.
"I'm Lonnie," he introduced.
"(Y/n)," I replied, shaking his hand with my free one. "Thanks again."
"You're welcome," he said. He tipped his head to me. "Until next time, (Y/n)."
I nodded, "Until next time, Lonnie."
I walked inside, closing and locking my door quickly. I let a smile form on my face. Something in my gut told me that was significant. That Lonnie was significant.
--Season 4--
He was significant.
Holy shit was he significant.
We spent the next three years together in a happy relationship. He would kiss me gently, hold me when my family left me out, and showed me true, unconditional love.
There were days when he was chaos. I had grown to accept that side of him. To love that side as much as any other side.
I didn't mind the work he was doing with the gang. We talked about the broad strokes but I didn't push him. I was more concerned when he mentioned a man named Damien Darhk.
"I'm gonna have to do something dangerous, a little bigger than any of my other jobs," he explained. "I wanna say that I'm sorry now."
I nodded, "Please be careful. Don't... Don't get yourself killed."
He nodded back, pulling me into a kiss. He pressed another kiss to my forehead before grabbing his jacket.
A few days later, after seeing multiple news reports about the new candidate for mayor, I was in the middle of making dinner when my phone rang, "Hello?"
"Is this (Y/n) (Y/l/n)," a voice asked.
"Yes," I replied.
The next minute or so felt like slow motion. The voice introduced themself as a doctor at Starling General Hospital. Lonnie was in with serious burns. I was the first number on his speed dial.
I ran to grab some shoes and my keys.
They kept me out of his room. I looked at Lonnie through the glass, my heart was broken. In what world had burning someone alive been the right decision?
"(Y/n)," I looked to see Oliver walking over.
"How'd you know I was here," I asked. He froze for a moment. "You aren't here for me."
"Yes, I am... Laurel's dad mentioned that he heard you were here," he said.
I had seen Laurel's dad. He didn't criticize me but he didn't mention it. He hugged me, mumbling that he was sorry I had to see someone I loved like this before he left. I didn't think he'd call my brother.
I was pretty sure Oliver was lying to me.
"How long have you been with Lonnie," he asked.
"Three years."
"And you didn't tell us?"
"Would you have cared," I asked. "I did try to talk to Thea. When she first came back to Starling. Nothing good came from it and she obviously didn't listen."
"(Y/n), I'm sorry," he said. I forced a grin, messing with the bracelet Lonnie had gotten an old friend to make me. Simple charm with a leather strap that held it together. "Lonnie lives a dangerous life."
"I don't need a lecture about my choice," I cut him off instantly. "Lonnie has shown me more love than any of you. I don't need to be told about the choices he made."
"You'll accept he's a criminal?"
"Oliver, he was burned, he's barely alive, he's all I've been holding onto for years, and you have the nerve to walk in here and make me feel like shit," I asked.
"(Y/n)-"
"I just... I love him. He loves me."
"That doesn't make what he did okay!"
"I know that but he's fighting for his fucking life because of that vigilante asshole and his crew," I snapped. "Why is it so hard for the Queen family to accept that I can be fucking happy?"
Oliver froze when he saw I was crying. I stepped forward, leaning on the window and touching the window with my fingertips.
"The day that Malcolm Merlyn tried to destroy the Glades was the first day Lonnie and I stayed in the same apartment," I explained. "He held me as we hid from the explosions. I tried to call you and Thea. No one answered. We made lunches for the people who were left on the streets the next day. It grew into a proper service that the people in the glades worked together on."
Oliver stayed quiet.
"When those soldiers attacked, Lonnie protected me," I continued. "We... We hid under my bed. He had a gun pointing at the door and wrapped his other arm around me."
"I... I didn't know-"
"Then the Arrow was going around killing people and that group attacked the Glades," I finished. "We were there. We fought for the Glades."
Oliver stepped forward, wrapping an arm around my shoulders.
"Yes, he has done awful things, but he's also saved people," I argued. "He loves me. When I needed it but didn't think I deserved it. When I thought you and Thea hated me. When I heard through the news that my mother had been murdered. He was there."
"I'm sorry... I'm so-"
"I want to be alone," I took a deep breath. "We can talk about this later."
"Okay," he replied. He yanked me into a hug. "Please call. I'm sorry."
I didn't respond, but I hugged him back. I stepped back and turned back to Lonnie's room.
"Bye (Y/n)."
"Bye Ollie."
I touched the window again as I heard him walking away.
"I'm here, Lonnie," I promised quietly. "I'm here."

Ok, here's what I know, I'll probably miss shit but fuck it.
I don't care if this was a joke, I'm doing it. Buckle in, this is long as shit.
Spoilers for like all the dsmp I guess (or most of it at least) and tw for death, violence, manipulation, abuse, and suicidal thoughts (all mentioned mainly, but still).
Homeless Green tellitubbie steals disc's from children. Don't worry they get it back. Then big brother Wilbur comes on and it's time for Hamilton meets Breakimg Bad. Uh oh! Eret was the imposter! Now they're all dead and down a life. Pistols at dawn between tellitubbie and child, child loses and is on last life, but gives up discs for independence.
Time for elections because Wilbur need that power! New L'manbergians Niki and Jack! Quackity thinks Wilbur ain't that cool rigging the vote, so he jumps into the race. Schlatt endorses Wilbur and Tommy but not really, and he becomes his own president with Quackity elected fattest ass in the cabinet (also vp i guess...) Wilbur gets killed and they run off to the woods to live in a ravine.
Techno comes and helps out. Things go downhill fast, Schaltt is an alcoholic and makes Techno execute Tubbo because he was the imposter. Techno does (despite being against the government and everyone screaming at him not to and severely outclassing everyone there and Tubbo being on his side). Wilbur is on his gaslight arc in more ways than one as he is planning to blow up the entire country with everyone in it.
Wat time. Schlatt dies of a heart attack, Wilbur blows up L'manberg, Techno yells about betrayal (despite several people telling him they were going to make another government and him just saying we'll get there when we get there) and tells Tommy to die, Philza stabs his son, and Tubbo is president.
Tommy and Ranboo burn down a house, Tommy protects Ranboo and takes full blame. Dream gets him exiled and fucking abuses and manipulates him (though him and Ranboo share letters which keeps his spirits up a bit. and he has a cute matching compass thing for him and Tubbo with "Your Tubbo" and "Your Tommy" respectively, that always points to each other (me and my friend have matching necklaces of it)). But it gets to the point of Tommy canonically wanting to commit aliven't; multiple times.
He eventually runs off to Techno who is "in retirement" and tries to live in his floors. Techno comes back to his house after New L'manberg tried to execute him to pay for his crimes (he spawned Withers when Wilbur pulled a JD). Quackity gets a pickaxe through the teeth. They eventually agree to some goals (all of which Tommy ends up fulfilling).
Meanwhile there's alot of stuff with Quackity, Karl, Sapnap, and George making a new country and trying to get it independent, the Badlands are formed and are doing something (idk what tbh). And Dream is trying to marionette everyone.
Eventually Tubbo finds out Tommy isn't dead (there was a pillar to the block limit and Tommy had gone missing), Dream blames him for blowing up the community house, Tubbo and Tommy argue and Tommy realizes he doesn't like who he's become and that he can't just leave behind all the people he cares about. Techno gets offended, and him and Dream promise to blow up Lyman in a few days.
For some reason literally almost everyone hates Tommy, then the guys come and fucking destroy it to kingdom come. Techno yells about Tommy betraying him (I'm not a fan of how c!Techno was done, but I still like the bastard for some reason...) despite Tommy doing everything he asked.
Ranboo goes to live with Phil and Techno and Tommy and Tubbo try to go fight Dream one last time (Niki and Jack also tried to nuke Tommy). Dream eventually gets Tommy and Tubbo in some creepy ass vault, and says he's gunna kill Tubbo and lock Tommy in prison, but eventually everyone comes and saves them.
Tommy knocks Dream down to his final life and Dream says he has a revival book and gets thrown in prison.
Tommy tries to recover from everything, building a hotel with Sam Nook. There's a weird egg cult, Tommy is immune to the egg and now the cult wants him dead.
Tommy goes to the Prison to get closure, fucking dies, gets revived. Techno makes an "anarchist" group called the syndicate and the make the end portal a table.
Tubbo has nukes -- has for awhile -- and now one is missing. That never gets resolved. He adopts a kid with Ranboo and they get platonically married while Tommy is dead.
Tommy tries to make a plan to go kill Dream. Karl is time-traveling and losing his memories, and ended up making a country without one of his fiancés, Quackity (the other is Sapnap) after Quackity was gunna invite him, George, and Sapnap to be cool casino buddies so he goes and builds it himself (if nothing else you should go watch the Las Nevadas streams, they're essentially movies).
Tommy breaks into the prison with Ghostbur (Wilbur's ghost) and Ghostbur fucking dies and is now fucking trapped in the "Your city gave me asthma" train station for eternity, and Wilbur is revived, much to Tommy's dismay.
Wilbur continuously breaks Tommy's heart, and Tommy still keeps following him because he cares about Wil. Quackity and Wilbur get into a fight over Wilbur not being allowed into Las Nevadas due to his... destructive tendencies (and kinda get into a custody battle over Tommy).
(From here on i kinda didn't fully keep up, and I fucking don't fully know everything)
Charlie learns about gambling and the house. Eggpire throws a party and kills a god and then the story just kinda ends.
Wilbur starts a burger van, and drags Ranboo into it, and Quackity and Wil have a super homoeroticly charged rivalry. Eventually Wilbur get Ranboo killed and goes to talk to Phil about what to do and shit. He was already going around apologizing, but now he's doing it harder.
Techno and the Syndicate break Dream out of prison (as well as Ranboo who was locked in there by Sam, and Connor who was locked in there for stolen valor after using a fake military i.d. at a Chic-fil-a) and Sam fucking kills Ranboo and kidnaps his kid (Ranboo is full on dead now, like ghost and everything (also never came up before this but Dream was like mind controlling him with smiley faces)). Connor joins the Syndicate.
Tubbo, Eret, and Techno get kid back while Dream toys with and manipulates Tommy more, Tommy fucking panicking.
Wilbur frees Tommy from Dream by "burning" his disks. He later admits he never apologized to Tommy because he couldn't deal with having to let him go if Tommy didn't accept his apology, then fucks off to Utah in a rowboat (cause he's from there I guess)
Charlie teaches Quackity an important lesson.
"I have seen so much. I've seen empires rise and fall. And their strongest people fall with them. And I've seen the weak that are left, fight for scraps. But I never understood why, until you taught me, until you took me in. Lesson 1: Humans are assholes. You told me that, Quackity from Las Nevadas. But more importantly, you showed me that. When you saw me, something malleable. And all of you made me into the worst parts of each. Lesson 2: Politics are the way to power. Use the conflicts and beliefs of people to rally them. And you did! You rallied everyone here, didn't you. Lesson 3: Create no emotional attachments. But you didn't follow that lesson Quackity, and I didn't either. Maybe that's why we're here. But there are more! Lesson 4: Everything gets destroyed. Lesson 5: Trust nobody. Lesson 6: Hold your ground against authority. And Lesson 7, Quackity from Las Nevadas: Seek successful revenge, because if you fail, the consequences will be bitter. I will not fail. Because Quackity from Las Nevadas, we have one thing in common. Through everything we've been through. The same human ruined our lives. Because you are not a good person. It's like you said, with Lesson 8 Quackity: Legacy is all you leave behind in this world. I hope you leave behind a good one."
Now Quackity is down to his last life. Fucking, Tubbo and Tommy go to their actual final fight with Dream (because he is homeless, and now is just a squatter in the prison), and they actually kill him! But then Punz revives him.
Kristin -- Phil's wife and the Goddess of Death -- can sense some shit is about to go down so hurries Phil and Niki into the end and revives Connor I think (idk how he dies but yeah). Ranboo is also in the Nether with Michael, his son.
Tubbo and Tommy send a nuke to the prison to end this once and for all, but I think Jack fucks with it and now everyone in the server is dead and reset. All memories reset. (Except for Phil, Niki, Connor, Ranboo (Ghostboo I think...), Michael, and Probably Wilbur (Charlie too probably because he is 100% a god from Molympus)).
Now everything is back at 0% and I think that's it rn.
Fuck me for spending so long on this shit.
Never been too into the dsmp fandom but what the fuck us going on, also kwite. Tiring.

New Girl on the Block (14)
(I’m finally baaaaaaaaaaack!!! So sorry this took so long guys, my life’s been CRAZY lately! Hope you all enjoy the update anyway thought! As usual, there’s this series and then a mini series connected to this called Journal Entries. Go check that out too if you prefer!)
Ch. 1 / Ch. 13 / Ch. 15 (ao3)
Chapter 14: Geronimo!
Felix dangled his leg over the pool’s edge, feeling the warm water brush against his skin as he slowly swung it back and forth. His reflection stared back at him, distorted by the ripples that formed from his movement. He didn’t swim in pools often, but when he did, it tended to be soothing for him. The waves rolling back and forth across his body helped remind him to breathe and gave him a sense of presence for where he was in that moment. He could allow himself to get lost in his thoughts while staying present on earth at the same time. It was nice.
However, while he did enjoy looking at the water, he didn’t quite fancy it being thrown onto him.
“Watch it!” Felix scowled at Allan and Claude as he scooted back on the pavement. If they continued to splash water like that, not only would Felix get soaked, but the cement around them would as well. Someone could get seriously injured by slipping if they weren’t careful or weren’t paying attention, specifically a certain ravenette that was going to be joining them in a few minutes.
“Aw, come on, Fe.” Claude laughed, swimming towards the blond. Felix moved back a bit more to be safe. “You have a swimsuit on for a reason. Join us! The water feels great!”
“I’ll get in when I’m good and ready.” Felix replied with narrowed eyes.
Claude tisked and swam back towards the deep part of the pool. “Figures. You’re probably waiting on Marinette to get here.”
Felix rolled his eyes. Why would he wait for anyone to go swimming? The girls were taking a tad longer than them, but this wasn’t a formal event. There was no need to-
“Speaking of Marinette,” The brunette continued, “what do you think of Luka? It sounded like they were pretty close.”
Felix held back a sigh, slowly growing more annoyed towards Claude’s strange, incessant questions and comments. For example, why would he think about Luka in any way? None of them had met the guitarist, and the only thing they knew about him was the flippant mention that Marinette had made earlier. A quick mention of dear friend, which was something that they’ve all done before. He’d noted the name, of course, but that was only because he’d fallen into the habit of noting a lot of things when it came to Marinette. Other than that, it was hardly an extraordinary occurrence, yet Claude was acting as though Luka had just joined their group alongside Marinette.
“I don’t have any thoughts on him.” He said. “You can’t have an opinion on someone you haven’t met.”
Claude scoffed. “Oh, please. You have an opinion on everything, Felix.”
“Everything I’ve read about and experience personally.” Felix replied curtly. Why would it even matter if he did have an opinion on Luka?
“Fine, I’ll change the question. What are your thoughts on Marinette’s thoughts about Luka?”
Felix raised a brow. “What do you mean?”
“I mean, what are your thoughts? She was blushing a lot earlier. Do you think she has a crush on him?”
Felix paused. When he first saw her blushing and stuttering in the music room, his mind did turn to that possibility, but blushing and stuttering were two traits that she exhibited quite often. Unless she has a crush on their entire group, along with this Luka person, her becoming flustered towards their teasing shouldn’t mean anything. That did bear a new kind of question, though: What type of person would Marinette like? He’s already established that she had a personal connection to Adrien Agreste- or at least he’s quite sure of it -so that was one basis they could use for reference. What traits did Adrien possess that could be considered attractive to Marinette?
His first guess would be money, fame, and power, except Marinette wouldn’t be that shallow. Plus, she initiated the break up. Most people who were after a certain status wouldn’t break off their chances of getting it. That meant there had to be something else that Adrien possessed that “wooed” her. It could be looks, with Adrien being a model again, or his personality. Considering who they were talking about, Felix guessed the latter, or at least a mix of the two. Maybe she had a thing for blonds and Adrien tended to give her a world of attention. Or perhaps she enjoyed a pair of emerald green eyes and someone that would bring a positive energy to the room, the same energy she often brought herself. Granted, Adrien’s positive energy was mostly fake, but that could be the reason why they broke up in the first place. (If they were together, that is.) Felix had learned over the last few weeks that Marinette deeply appreciates honesty from others as well, which would make sense when one thinks about her struggles with anxiety.
She most likely didn’t have a boyfriend currently, since it hasn’t been mentioned in the month that they’ve known her, but if she did, Felix would probably guess that that person had to be thoughtful, honest, and loving, someone who could calm her worries and give her the stability in life she needed. It was the least she deserved.
As for Luka, though..
“I think you should ask her yourself if you’re so interested.” Felix finally answered.
Claude pulled a pout and sighed. “You’re no fun.”
“Oh, leave him alone.” Allan said, jokingly splashing Claude. “Can’t you let him be a buzzkill in peace?”
Claude laughed and pounced on Allan, splashing more water everywhere. Felix tisked, but before he could chastise them for spreading more water onto the concrete, another voice interrupted them.
“We’re here~!”
The boys stopped fighting, and Felix glanced over his shoulder towards Allegra, who had just entered the pool room. She was wearing her casual, purple bikini and had her hair tied up in a bun, her usual look when swimming. Behind her, Marinette was shuffling in as well, and no sooner did his eyes land on the ravenette than he felt himself freeze to his spot on the cement.
Her hair had been pulled up into a ponytail, and a frilly, pink bikini adorned her figure. Of course, neither of those things would have groundbreaking.. had she not also been completely ripped.
“Dang!” Claude remarked, taking the words out of their collective mouths. Her entire body appeared to be packed with muscle. It was like she’d decided to get up and complete a series of extreme exercises three times in a row daily! Felix already knew that Marinette was strong, but he didn’t expect her to look like she was chiseled out of rock itself.
“Marinette, why didn’t you tell us that you were jacked?”
“Is that a six pack?” Allan asked, his jaw falling slack.
A blush bloomed across Marinette’s cheeks, and a bashful expression painted her features as she crossed her arms over her chest. “O-Oh, um-”
“It sure is!” Allegra grinned, wrapping an arm around the girl’s shoulders. “Apparently, Marinette has the same addiction to exercise that you guys do.”
Allan gained enough sense to let out a short laugh. “I wouldn’t exactly call it an addiction-”
“And you didn’t tell us?!” Claude interrupted, betrayal clear in his tone.
Marinette faltered. “I- uh -didn’t think you would be.. interested?”
“Are you kidding?” Claude lifted himself out of the pool to show his own set of abs. “I love exercising! We could have been working out together this whole time!”
“Where do you exercise?” Allan inquired. “I wanna know what you use to get your muscles so defined.”
“Oh! Uh- well -You know..” Marinette looked ready to squirm now. “Just.. random workouts at the house.. I guess.”
Felix furrowed his eyebrows. He didn’t know much about workouts, but from what he overhead from Allan and Claude, they could be time consuming. How did she manage to fit that into her schedule? She seemed busy enough with homework, designs, and helping her parents at the bakery. He supposed she could always rearrange her schedule to make time, but where was the equipment? Surely one couldn’t get muscles like that without using professional equipment, and yet he didn’t see anything remotely close to a weight last time they went to her house.
“Felix?”
Felix’s gaze flicked to Claude, and he almost groaned when he saw the brunette grinning like a fool again. What ludicrous thing was he going to say now?
“Care to share your thoughts with the class?” He joked. “You were staring at Marinette pretty hard.”
Felix’s eyes widened, then snapped to Marinette. Her blush was a touch darker now, and Allegra was snickering next to her. He hadn’t been paying attention to where he was looking when he zoned out. How long was he staring? Where was he staring?
“I-” He stopped, unsure of what to say. Were his cheeks supposed to feel this warm? “I’m so sorry. I wasn’t-.. I just got lost in thought. I didn’t mean to.. stare.”
Claude snorted behind him. “‘Lost in thought’. Yeah, right.”
Felix whipped around and splashed Claude in the face. Now was not the time for his quips.
“I-It’s fine!” Marinette assured before the boys could fight further. “You didn’t make me uncomfortable or anything. Well, I mean- I just wanted sure that you were- you know -okay..”
Felix glanced back up at her, but for some reason, holding eye contact felt worse. So he shifted on the concrete, resting his elbow against his knee and his mouth in his palm. “Thank you, but I’m fine.”
“Good.”
Felix barely had time to register Allegra’s comment or her steps as she ran towards him before he was abruptly shoved into the pool. A gasp escaped him as he flailed his arms around to gain stability, and he looked up to glare at Allegra. She was already jumping into the pool after him, though, yelling “Cannonball!”
She resurfaced a second later and threw him a subtle wink as she muttered, “I guess Marinette’s not the only one who needs to cool down, huh?”
Felix didn’t have a chance to snap back- he wasn’t staring at her that way. It was an honest mistake! -because Marinette plunged into the pool a second later.
A giggle fell from the ravenette’s lips when she resurfaced. “This water is so warm!”
“That’s because it’s a heated pool.” Claude informed as he swam over to her.
Marinette mouthed a “wow” before saying aloud, “I’ve never been in a heated pool before.”
“Well, now that you have, what do you think?”
“Hm.. I’d say it’s probably better for winter than it would be for summer.”
Allan chuckled. “I can confirm that it is definitely better in the winter.”
“Especially since there aren’t any other pools to swim in during that time.” Allegra smirked. She then splashed them all by making a wide wave with her arm.
“Race you guys to the water slide!”
Everyone began clambering to get to the other side of the pool, while Felix stood there squinting his eyes to avoid getting water in them. Why did he decide to be with such rowdy people?
“You good?” Allan, who had strangely stayed behind, inquired.
Felix nodded. “Allegra didn’t push me hard, so I didn’t scrape the floor.”
A hint of a smile passed Allan’s lips. “I was talking about your little fever earlier. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you blush that hard.”
Felix grit his teeth, feeling the heat rush back to his cheeks, and began swimming away to hide it. “It’s only because you all made it such a big deal.”
“Oh, I’m sorry,” Allan laughed, swimming after him. “Were we supposed to ignore the fact that you were just staring at Marinette’s abs without saying anything?”
Despite the annoying remark, Felix couldn’t help feeling a tad relieved. At least it was only the abs.
“No, but you didn’t have to make it weird.”
“You’re the only one who made it weird, dude.”
Felix scoffed. “Then, just forget the whole thing! It was an accident, and I got lost in thought, alright? For my sake and Marinette’s, just let it go.”
“Okay, okay.” Allan smiled, briefly pausing in his swim to hold up his hands. “This is me letting it go.. But I can’t promise anything for Claude or Allegra.”
Felix bit back a groan. Great. He could trust Allan to let this pass, and maybe Allegra, but if it was up to Claude?
He was never going to live this down.
~~~~~~
Marinette sat on Allegra’s bed with a smile as she ran her hands over the furry, soft comforter. Allegra sat behind her, carefully pulling on Marinette’s hair to tie it into a braid. Once everyone had had their fill of swimming, they’d decided to take showers and change into pajamas for the evening. The boys went off to their bedroom, while the girls retreated to theirs, and when Marinette finished her shower around fifteen minutes later, Allegra eagerly insisted that they exchange hair styles.
“I’ll wear your pigtails, and you can wear a braid!” She’d said. “It’ll be fun!”
The request was a strange one, but Marinette figured it wouldn’t hurt anything to accept it. So she’d grabbed her ribbons for Allegra and got settled on the bed. Now, they were here, simply doing each other’s hair and waiting for the boys to come back. The silence in the room was palpable, but it wasn’t born from awkwardness, at least. Allegra was merely focused on the task at hand, and Marinette didn’t mind enjoying the quiet while it lasted. Spending time with the group on a constant basis, while fun, could be overbearing sometimes. They were always moving, always talking and laughing together, especially Claude. So the softer moments like this were a nice reprieve.
Actually, Claude’s absence was probably the reason for this new found silence. If she listened hard enough, she’d bet that she could hear him chattering all the way across the mansion. Perhaps she might even catch Felix telling him to pipe down too.
“So,” Allegra began, breaking the comfortable silence between them, “You’ve been attending Rosemary for a good month now. Do you think you’ve got a good handle on it yet?”
Marinette smiled, careful not to turn her head as she replied, “I like to think so. I know where all of my classes are, and I’m pretty sure I’ve memorized the teacher’s names.”
“Oh, good.” She could hear the satisfied smile in Allegra’s voice. “What about our group? Have you gotten sick of us yet?”
A laugh tumbled from Marinette’s lips. “No, of course not. I could never get sick of you guys.”
“Aw~.” The blonde cooed. “Even Felix? He’s a bit of a grump.”
Marinette snorted. “Oh, I don’t think he’s that bad. He just likes to have order in his life, ya know?”
“I do.” Allegra agreed. “But I also think he’s mellowed out a lot since you came around.”
Marinette’s eyes widened slightly, and she glanced to the left in an attempt to look at Allegra without moving. “You think so?”
Allegra hummed. “He’s not nearly as impertinent as he used to be. We had to drag him around everywhere we went with him pouting the entire way, but ever since you joined, he’s been coming to our hangouts without a single complaint. He’s been smiling more too.”
“Don’t get me wrong, we love Felix. He’s just a stay-at-home-and-isolate-yourself-from-all-human-existence type of person. That’s why it surprised us when he took such a shining to you.”
Heat rose to Marinette’s cheeks, and her fingers dug into the fur and feathers of Allegra’s blanket as she began fiddling with it a bit more. Had Felix really been smiling more and doing more things since she came around? Claude did mention Felix being ‘lenient’ with her a few times, but she’d thought he was just kidding. Or at least that Felix was more spiteful towards Claude since Claude was often pushy. Why would he take a shining to her specifically? Marinette didn’t remember doing anything special. Why not open up to the people who had been sticking by his side for two years?
“If he fought so hard against your get-togethers, why did you keep inviting him?” She found herself asking. She loved hanging out with Felix too, but if someone continued to reject her invitations and argue with her on every subject- as Allegra had implied -she probably would stop trying to hang out with that person after a while.
“Well, it’s like you said,” Allegra shrugged. Or at least, Marinette was pretty sure she shrugged. The bed definitely shook slightly from whatever the blonde was doing. “Felix isn’t really that bad. He may act all tough and annoyed, but he still shows up to our hangouts on time and pays for the lunches when it’s his turn and helps us out when we ask him. We know he enjoys being around us, even if he won’t admit it. We just like giving him a hard time.”
Marinette let out a soft hum. That made sense. She could see the way he made time for the planned visits and study dates and how he’d subtly help out the others in any way he could.
In other words, Felix didn’t truly need to be dragged around everywhere. He just had a habit of putting up a fuss.
“Plus,” Allegra continued, “we kind of deliberately push his buttons all the time. So I don’t really blame him for snapping at us. Maybe that’s why he warmed up to you faster than he did us.”
Marinette chuckled. Maybe it was. They did tend to tease him a lot.
She wasn’t sure if Felix was actually more comfortable around her or not- though if anyone were to know it would probably be Allegra -but the fact that he might be brought her a certain sense of pride. Felix’s stone-cold demeanor was strong, and he rarely dropped it for anything. Her being able to help him relax would be a remarkable accomplishment, in her opinion.
“Alright, my turn!”
Marinette jumped at Allegra’s voice and reached up to touch the back of her hair. The braid was indeed finished, trailing all the way down to the top part of her back. It might look strange due to it being short, but she would only have it in for one night. Besides, if it makes Allegra happy, then who cares if she looks a tad silly?
Marinette moved back on the bed to allow Allegra to move up in front of her, and once the blonde got situated, Marinette began gathering up Allegra’s hair to pull it into two ponytails. It wasn’t until she started trying to brush through the hair, however, that she realized how hard the task may be.
“My goodness, Allegra!” Marinette blurted out. “How do you even have this much hair? You’re like a Disney princess!”
Allegra’s hair was not only long, flowing well past her lower back, but also thick. Marinette had a feeling that she could stick her whole hand inside and barely make it past the surface. How was Allegra’s neck not constantly aching from holding it all? Was this why she braided it so often? It had to be. If Allegra allowed her hair to flow freely as it was now, it would get caught on everything and anything in its way.
Allegra laughed in front of her. “I’ll take that as a compliment, but if anyone were to be a Disney princess here, it would be Claude.”
The comment pulled a laugh from Marinette as well. “Why does that make sense?”
“I know right! He’s even practiced that crying flop thing that all of the princesses do.”
“Seriously?”
“Yes! I still have a picture of it. I’ve decided that he’d either be Aurora or Merida.”
Marinette snorted. “Why’s that?”
“Well-”
A knock on the bedroom door interrupted their conversation, and the girls paused to listen for whoever was on the other side.
“Hey. Can we come in?”
It was Claude, coincidentally the same person they had been talking about.
“Yeah, you’re good.” Marinette called back. “We’re just doing each other’s hair now.”
“And talking about how you’re a Disney Princess.” Allegra added with a grin.
Claude let out an incredulous laugh as he opened the door, revealing Allan and Felix to be behind him as well. “I’m a Disney princess?”
“Oh, yeah. Either Aurora or Merida. You pick.”
Claude scoffed jokingly. “Please. If I were a Disney princess, I would totally be Kuzco, because I’m fabulous and I may not be a princess, but I deserve a crown.”
Marinette burst into a fit of giggles, along with Allegra and Allan, but Felix rolled his eyes.
“Claude, you would be Kuzco because you’re both spoiled and overly dramatic about everything.”
Claude shot him a look. “You know we’re both spoiled right? But it’s fine. I don’t blame you for being jealous of me.”
Felix scoffed. “Jealous-”
“Anyway!” Claude cut him off, prancing over to Marinette. “Are you ready, Mari?”
Marinette's smile faltered. Ready? “Ready for what?”
“You and I are gonna arm wrestle.”
Her eyes bulged. “What?”
“If it’s alright with you.” Allan joined in. “We wanna see how strong you are.”
“Wait, so you all want to arm wrestle with me?”
“Not all of us.” Claude corrected. “Felix is too scared to challenge you.”
“I’m not scared.” Felix said, irritation lacing his tone. “I simply see no point in starting something I know I can’t win.”
“You won’t even try!”
“Why should I? I don’t work out on a regular basis like you do, and I’ve seen the things she can do. You two are going to get thrown across the room as it is. I don’t want to add myself to that list.”
Marinette pursed her lips, feeling another blush coming on. Did he honestly think that she was that strong? (Being Ladybug, she probably was, but-)
“Where are we going to do it?” She asked.
Claude perked up. “You mean you’ll really arm wrestle with us?”
“Sure, I don’t see why not. I just need to finish Allegra’s hair-”
“Oh, no.” Allegra interrupted with a grin. “I can finish the hair. You go arm wrestle.”
Marinette hesitated. “Are you sure?”
“Positive. I wanna see the boys get creamed.”
“Allegra!” Claude shouted indignantly.
“You know you’re gonna~.” She sang in response.
The brunette huffed as he sat on the carpeted floor. “Does no one have faith in us?”
“Honestly?” Allan sat down next to him. “I don’t think I’ll win either. I just want to see how bad I’m gonna lose.”
“Wow.. at least you’re honest.”
Marinette giggled and moved to the floor where she assumed the arm wrestle would take place. Behind her, Felix claimed her abandoned spot on the bed next to Allegra, and she felt their gazes on her back as she laid down in front of Claude, who already had an arm up and an eager smirk on his lips.
Tentatively, Marinette grabbed his hand. She hadn’t been worried about winning at first, but now that everyone had voiced their belief towards her certain victory, the pressure was starting to weigh on her mind. Losing was much less humiliating when no one believed you would win in the first place.
“Alright, I’m sure everyone knows the rules.” Allan began, acting as referee. “Elbows have to be touching the ground no matter what, and you can only use one hand. The first hand to touch the ground loses. I’ll count down from three.”
Marinette nodded and situated herself a bit more on the ground. Claude did the same.
“No hard feelings, right?” The brunette asked lightheartedly.
“3..”
Marinette smirked.
“2..”
“None whatsoever.”
“1..”
“Especially since you’re going to be the one losing.”
An incredulous laugh burst from Claude’s lips. “Oh!”
“Go!”
They both pushed against each other at the same time, but Marinette managed to put in a burst of speed that slammed Claude’s hand right into the floor. The round was over in the blink of an eye.
“OOOOOOOOH!!!”
Allegra and Allan both cheered, and Claude looked like he would have fallen backwards from shock had he not been lying down. But nothing made Marinette happier than the proud smirk she caught on Felix’s lips.
“I wanna go again!” Claude announced eagerly.
“No way! It’s my turn to try!” Allan replied, shoving the brunette aside.
Marinette laughed and got situated again, and although Claude was disappointed, he quickly assumed the role of referee for her and Allan. There was another countdown from three, and when the word “Go” was shouted, the two pushed as hard as they could. Allan held up a tad longer since he was more prepared and focused, but in the end, the results were the same. Marinette slammed his hand into the floor with no sense of mercy, just as she had done with Claude.
“Dude!” Allan laughed, rubbing his wrist. “You’re good at this!”
“How often do you play?” Claude asked.
Marinette tilted her head back and forth. She may or may not play multiple nights a week with Chat Noir when patrols were slow, but that wasn’t something she could tell any of them.
“Only every now and then.” She decided to reply.
“What! That’s crazy!” Claude exclaimed. “Let’s do it again. I wanna try one more time.”
Marinette gladly obliged, and soon, one more time turned into six more times. Then ten more. The boys just kept shoving each other aside, insisting on playing again, only for her to beat them within a few seconds or so. Each round got admittedly harder for Marinette, but after two years of constantly finding new ways to beat Chat noir, arm wrestling with civilians almost felt too easy.
“Agh!” Claude groaned after getting beat for the twelfth time in a row. “I was so close that time!”
“Yeah.. no.” Allegra said from the bed. “Not even.”
“Do you see now why I didn’t care to try?” Felix remarked.
“Hey, I’m still having fun losing.” Allan smiled. “Move over, Claude, it’s my turn again.”
“Oh, give her a break.” Allegra scolded. “You’re gonna tire her out until your win is guaranteed.”
Marinette silently agreed. She could definitely go longer, but her arm was starting to feel tired, and she didn’t want to end up over-exerting herself, especially when she already did that on a weekly basis as Ladybug.
“Aw, I guess you’re right.” Claude relented, scooting back on the carpet. Allan also backed off, to which Allegra gave a satisfied nod.
“Besides, we have to figure out what we’re doing for next week before we forget.”
Marinette twisted on the floor to give Allegra a questioning look. “What’s happening next week?”
“Valentine’s Day!” The blonde said, as though it were obvious.
“We host a party for the school every year to celebrate it.” Allan explained.
“And now we need to figure out where we’re going to host it for this year.” Allegra finished.
“Oh..” Marinette muttered, trying not to sound too despondent. Ever since Adrien, she’d sort of been actively avoiding things that symbolized love or relationships.. if only to keep the blond out of her mind. “That sounds like a lot of fun.”
“It is!” Claude grinned. “We get a bunch of decorations and snacks and drinks, and then we’ll put on music for people to dance to! Sometimes we even make up fun games to play.”
“And you do this every year?”
“For the past four years.” Allegra confirmed. “Speaking of which, do you want to help us decorate?”
Marinette knew she shouldn’t be surprised towards the request, since they’d invited her to everything else under the sun, but she still couldn’t help raising her eyebrows. “Really? You want me to help?”
“Of course!” Claude smiled. “We’d love to have your artistic touch.”
A soft chuckle passed her lips. The group’s attachment to her had been made clear from all of the get-togethers they invited her to join, but she’d fallen under the impression that they were all still newly made friends. Therefore, being invited to something that sounded extremely personal, such as decorating for a party that they alone hosted, made her realize how highly the group thought of her. Or perhaps they would invite anyone who returned their smiles.
Either way, She felt extremely honored.
“That’s sweet, but I’m a fashion designer. Not a party designer. They’re a bit different.”
“Yeah, but you like doing crafts, right?” Allan pointed out. “We make a lot of our decorations by hand. It helps the parties seem more personal and gives us a good excuse to hang out over winter break.”
“Not that we really need one.” Allegra added.
Marinette mouthed a ‘wow’ before saying, “You guys really go all out.”
“Yeah, we do.” Claude smirked. “Otherwise, who’d wanna come?”
“That’s why we need to get a reservation somewhere by tomorrow. So we have time to prepare.”
“Did you guys have a place in mind?”
“I have a few, actually.” Allegra replied. “My main preference is the Mandarin Oriental, but there’s also a few other options like Ritz Paris, Bateaux Parisiens, or Les Pavillons de Bercy.”
Marinette nodded thoughtfully, though she’d really only heard of one of those places. Was it bad that she didn’t know about the other three?
“Have we done the Mandarin Oriental yet?” Allan asked.
“Not that I remember.”
“I don’t want to do Bateaux Parisiens.” Felix spoke up. “Being on a boat with that many people would be dreadful.”
“Aw, what?” Claude said. “Boats are awesome!”
“Not when they are packed to the brim with people. You’d barely be able to move an inch without running into somebody, and there would be no escape once you’re out on the water.”
“Well, fine, if you’re going to put it that way..”
“I say we do Mandarin Oriental.” Allan remarked. “I trust Allegra’s judgement on the setting.”
Allegra smiled at that, and the other two boys shrugged.
“I’m fine with it as long as I can get some air at some point.” Felix said.
“I guess I’m okay with it too.. But we should try to do a boat next year.”
Allegra shot Claude an indulgent smile. “I’ll see what I can do.”
“Who’s going to call and reserve the tables?”
“I can have Dad do it.” Allegra answered. “We want him to reserve it for two days so we have time to put the decorations in, right?”
“Yeah, like usual.”
“Alright. We can check out the room we’re reserving tomorrow to see which types of decorations we need.”
“Great!” Claude chirped. “Does that work for you, Mari?”
Marinette smiled. She may not be fond of love or romance at the moment, but if throwing a Valentine’s Day party meant spending more time with these wonderful people, she would absolutely do it.
“Perfectly.”
“Awesome.” Allegra said, satisfied. “Now that that’s settled, we can go back to messing around. What do you guys want to do?”
“Besides arm wrestling?” Claude joked as he eyed Marinette.
“Besides arm wrestling.”
“Why don’t we play hide and seek?” Allan suggested. “We haven’t played that with Marinette yet.”
Marinette gasped. Playing hide and seek in a mansion as big as this one? How had she not considered that before!
“Yeah, that’s a great idea!”
“Absolutely!”
“..I suppose.”
“What do you say, Mari?” Allegra smiled. “Wanna play?”
Marinette didn’t even have to think about her answer. “Yes, please!”
Allan chuckled and leaned back on his palms. “Great. Who’s going to be it?”
The group paused for a split second. Then, all at once, a chorus of ‘not it!’s rang out in the room.
“Claude, you were the last one!”
“What? No way! It was totally you!”
Allegra shot up from the bed. “Nope! It was you! Start counting to 150!”
“But let us turn off the lights first.” Allan added as he got up.
“Oh, no. I’m counting now.” Claude replied with a sinister grin. “So you better hurry to turn the lights off as you go.”
Felix was up now too, and Marinette, in her giddiness, shot up from the floor with a squeal to follow him.
“Claude Herolds, you better wait for us to-”
“One!” The brunette yelled over Allegra.
“Claude-”
“Two!”
When it was clear he didn’t intend on stopping, everyone scrambled to get out of the bedroom door. They got stuck for only a moment, pushing against each other to be the first one out, then they struggled free and scattered.
Marinette stopped at the top of the steps, her eyes darting around the parts of the mansion she could see. There were so many rooms, so many open spaces, and she still hadn’t memorized where everything was, let alone where good hiding places could be. Where should she even start?
A hand gently grabbed her arm.
“This way.” Felix said in a hushed tone, lightly tugging her down the stairs. “Downstairs is more open for when you need to move to a new hiding place.”
“That’s allowed?”
He nodded. “It’s why we turn the lights off. I’ll show you a good room to start.”
“That’s why it surprised us when he took such a shining to you.”
A smile tugged at the corner of Marinette’s lips. “Thanks.”
With the blond’s assured guidance, Marinette’s steps held a tad more confidence, and as Claude’s countdown lowered to 125, the two bolted for a room to hide.
Tumblr media
You call me up It's like a broken record Saying that your heart hurts That you'll never get over him getting over you And you end up crying And I end up lying 'Cause I'm just a sucker for anything that you do
You couldn’t stop playing the video. Ever since it was sent you from a random number, you couldn’t stop crying. The video was barely ten seconds long, but it was ten seconds that broke your heart. There your boyfriend was, clear as day, kissing a girl that wasn’t you.
It isn’t long before you heard the front door open and slam behind someone, reminding you of who you told to come over. Luke, your best friend since you guys met in the sandpit at six years old. When he accidentally pushed you in, so you kicked him in the nuts. You guys had been inseparable ever since.
Luke was your best friend, and you were his. You guys had been through everything together. When he first learned guitar, when you did gymnastics, when he joined a band, when you guys first went to high school, and now, your first heartbreak.
“y/n?” He calls from downstairs, looking around the dark room. He had learned from a young age to just come into your house without knocking, your house was his second home after all.
Of course, you do have a few female friends that you could have called but none of them knew you as well as Luke did and you knew Luke would be there with you through everything. He would understand. He would comfort you better than any girl ever could. You walked down the stairs, trying to keep your sobs in but once you caught eyes with Luke, the tears started to fall.
“Luke,” You let out, looking at the boy barely keeping yourself together.
“y/n/n, what’s wrong?” Luke questions, eyes wracking over your defeated posture before looking up at your puffy red eyes. It was clear you had been crying, but why?
“He- he-,” You cut yourself short, letting back a choked sob as you land at the bottom of the stairs, Luke walking closer to you, his face looking at you with concern, “Luke he was with another girl, he cheated-”
Mind wracking back over the video, you broke down into tears, falling into Luke’s now open arms. Suddenly, once you're in the arms of your best friend all of your walls come crashing down and you start to cry louder, letting out every emotion you felt that night. The sadness, betrayal, and overall heartbreak.
Luke holds the back of your head soothingly as you cry into his chest, playing softly with the hair on your head. By this point, he is supporting all of your weight but he doesn’t mind as he lifts you over to the couch, allowing you to continue crying in a more comfortable position than the awkward standing position you were in moments before.
Whilst Luke was sad hearing you cry, he was overcome with anger.  The fact that the scum would cheat, on you of all people. You were amazing, perfect even, so why would someone ever give away the chance of being with you? He knew he wouldn’t. Luke knew how much you loved and cared for the boy, Jack, and to see him cheat on you, he couldn’t help but be furious.
If he was being honest, the thing he wanted more than anything right now was to hook him right in the face. Punch him right where he stood, busting open his face so that no other girl would ever want to kiss him again. It’s what he deserves. Luke knew he was probably being a bit overprotective, but that didn’t matter to him, what mattered was that you were okay right now.
The last thing you needed in your state of fragility was Luke leaving you by yourself to set into the dickhead. Oh no, that could be done another time when you weren’t crying. What you truly needed right now was his comfort, so that’s what he gave you. He held you close, not even saying anything but hugging you closely, silently reminding you that he was here for you and always would be as you softly lulled into a sleep.
And when then phone call finally ends You say "Thanks for being a friend" And I'm going in circles again and again
I dedicate this song to you The one who never sees the truth That I can take away you hurt Heartbreak girl Hold you tight straight through the daylight I'm right here, when you gonna realise That I'm your cure? Heartbreak girl
Walking down the hall, Luke’s eyes catch onto you. Even though he’s been with you all weekend, comforting you after the video you saw on Friday, just looking at you is a sad reminder of how you are doing. A frown has fallen onto your face whilst you look over at something. Following your gaze, Luke finds him, Jack, with his arm wrapped around the girl in the video.
He wants to punch that stupid smirk off Jack’s face, then they’ll see who’s truly laughing. When Luke’s eyes drift back over to you, he feels his stomach dropping slightly. The look in your gaze makes you look broken, eyes conveying a sense of vulnerability that Luke didn’t think was possible. Maybe it’s just because Luke knows you better and knows how to read you better than everyone else, but he notices all of the changes in you. He sees how your eyes lacked the sparkle they usually had, your usual smile not present, even your outfit seemed a little dull. Nonetheless, you’re still gorgeous, Luke thinks so, but you look different; less lively.
All of this heartbreak just because of a stupid boy. One stupid hard-headed jock that doesn’t know how to truly value the important things in his life. The stupid jock that didn’t know how much you were truly worth.
Luke knows he could treat you so much better if you just gave him the chance to. If you looked his way instead of Jack’s. He would hold you close and never let you go, let you know just how much you meant to him and those truly important around you. He would watch you like the only person in the world because you were the only one that mattered.
He doesn’t even realize he was staring at you until he hears a cough sound from behind him as Reggie puts an arm over his shoulder, smirking, “You’re staring, pal.”
Luke, who’s eyes briefly glanced over towards Reggie when the bassist spoke, glanced back at you quickly, sighing lightly in relief when he realizes you didn’t notice him staring at you. He shrugs half-heartedly, not noticing the knowing look that Reggie gives him as he speaks, “I can’t, Reg. I’m not supposed to like her like this, she’s my best friend.”
“Best friend or not, I see the way you look at her, everyone does but her,” Reggie says before patting his friend on the back.
“She still likes him Reg, and I’ve known her since we were six. She’s been in so many relationships yet she fell for the stupid jock,” Luke says, shaking his head as his fists clench at his sides. He doesn’t realize but his face contorts into anger, making Reggie smirk, “she deserves so much better. She deserves someone who’s going to appreciate her. Someone who will show her how much she means to them-”
“Someone like you?” Reggie asks, making Luke glance at him with an annoyed expression, huffing. Reggie shrugs his shoulders, “Just saying man if anyone knows y/n it’s you. You just gotta be there for her and she’ll realize how much you mean to her. I mean, everyone thinks you guys are meant for each other, soon she’ll see that too.”
I bite my tongue But I wanna scream out You could be with me now But I end up telling you what you wanna hear But you're not ready And it's so frustrating He treats you so bad and I'm so good to you, it's not fair
And when the phone call finally ends You say "I'll call you tomorrow at 10" And I'm stuck in the friendzone again and again
Luke is frustrated. It has been two weeks since his conversation with Reggie, and the hope Reggie had given him for pursuing a relationship was surely fizzling out. Reggie was wrong, that’s what Luke thought anyway. Not only had you not realized how much Luke was bending his back for you, going out of his way to comfort you, being there for you 24/7, you had been so utterly stupid. Jack had given you the most insincere apology known to man, and you were meeting up with him for a date.
It had been forty-seven minutes since you had left, not that Luke was counting or anything and he still hadn’t heard a word from you. No text, no call, nothing. Jack was probably taking up all of your attention with his boring jock stories or his lame jokes. He probably didn’t even compliment you when you arrived and that was practically criminal.
You had been all dressed up when you left, not that Jack would have even noticed, but Luke did. He noticed the way the outfit you wore looked perfect on you, complimenting everything about you and most importantly, how confident you felt in it. You deserved more than a boy that wouldn’t even tell you that you were pretty, Luke knew that, he just wished you did too.
He paces around his room, feet aggressively hitting the ground. He wanted to punch something, to let out all of the anger and frustration that was itching, begging to be released. Yet, his anger was cut short when he heard his phone start to ring.
“Hello?”
“Lu?” Your voice sounded through his phone, ringing in his ears.
“Y/n?” Luke said in confusion, eyes glancing up at the time, “Aren’t you supposed to be on your date?”
You hesitate to answer, a complete silence hanging in the air until your light sniffles sound through the phone, “He didn’t show, Lu. M-My mom dropped me off, I don’t have my car. Can you come pick me up?”
“I’ll be there in 10, stay there y/n/n.”
Luke ran out of the house.
I dedicate this song to you The one who never sees the truth That I can take away you hurt Heartbreak girl Hold you tight straight through the daylight I'm right here, when you gonna realise That I'm your cure? Heartbreak girl
I know someday it's gonna happen And you'll finally forget the day you met him Sometimes I'm so close to confession I gotta get it through your head That you belong with me instead
Luke couldn’t help but smile at you, hazel eyes meeting your e/c eyes as he strung his guitar expertly. It wasn’t an uncommon occurrence for you to be at band practices, actually, you were at a large amount of them. It was normal for you to watch the band, well that’s what you said you were doing, but you were only really looking at Luke.
You didn’t play any musical instruments properly, but you could play a little guitar from what Luke had taught you. You remembered his teaching you, arms wrapped around you, hands guiding your fingers onto the different frets, playing different cords. He didn’t give up when you messed up, and instead, he smiles and shows you again, your back flushed against his chest.
It was no secret that you always enjoyed watching their band practice and perform, but it was different this time because they had gotten you to stop thinking about Jack. This was the first day that you didn’t feel miserable and instead felt happy in their presence. It was the first day that your gleaming smile returned, one that all members of the band had missed.
Soon enough, they were finished, congratulating each other on how well they played with large smiles.
“We’re gonna sound great at the rally!” Reggie says, flipping his bass down to his side so he didn’t have to hold it as he gave Luke a high five before turning to Alex, all of them breathing heavily with huge smiles.
“Of course, we’re still finishing with the other song, right?” Alex asked, eyes looking over at Luke for approval. He nodded his head, making you look at them in confusion.
“What other song?”
Luke glanced over to you, walking closer before kneeling beside you, guitar still in his hand, smirking “Can’t tell you, it’s a surprise.”
You groaned lightly, flinging your head back before giving the boy your puppy eyes, “Please? I won’t tell.”
He laughed lightly, shaking his head at you. Over the years, he had often been the victim to your puppy eyes, and whilst he often found them irresistible, he knew he couldn’t tell you this secret. He playfully slapped you on the arm, “Get those puppy eyes away, they’re not gonna work today.”
“Fine,” you grumbled, standing up before you stood up alongside Luke, who slung an arm over your shoulder. You guys shared a look, almost communicating through your eyes, something that you guys had gotten freakishly good at since you were kids.
“So, who wants to go grab a smoothie?” Luke said, turning his attention towards the rest of the band as you jumped on his back, ready to leave practice for smoothies.
I dedicate this song to you The one who never sees the truth That I can take away you hurt Heartbreak girl Hold you tight straight through the daylight I'm right here, when you gonna realise That I'm your cure Heartbreak girl
Soon enough, the rally at school came and the students surround the stage that the band was playing on. You stood at the back, proudly watching them as they played. Their most recent song blasts through the halls, exciting the students more than you had seen for the previous people on stage, even Dirty Candy. Sweat drips off of them, lights blazing down on them with intensity.
Eyes looking at Luke, you see him jump around when he sings and it brings a smile to your face. You knew this was their surprise song, the song that they were ending with because it was an unfamiliar tune, but one that Luke was pouring every feeling into as he sang the lyrics.
Suddenly, he’s no longer playing his guitar and it’s hanging on the strap by his side, mic detached from the stand and he’s making his way off of the stage and running through the crowd. You’re astonished, not only because Luke is running off stage, but that it somehow isn’t affecting his vocals.
Everyone seems to knowingly make a path for him to run through, almost as if they know where he is going to. Your eyes stay on him as he comes through the crowd, slowing down to a walk as he begins to sing again,
“I dedicate this song to you The one who never sees the truth That I can take away you hurt Heartbreak girl
Hold you tight straight through the daylight I'm right here, when you gonna realise That I'm your cure? Heartbreak girl.”
His eyes meet yours when he is standing barely feet away from you. His hair is messed up, dripping with sweat but you barely notice. When he stops singing, he lifts the mic away from his face and holds it down away from both of your faces so that it can’t pick up what you’re saying.
People start to talk between themselves, all of them staring at you and Luke standing barely a foot apart, eyes gazing into one another but you don’t notice because you’re too busy looking at Luke. You’re speechless, heart racing faster than you thought humanly possible, with lips slightly apart before he whispers to you, “This is for you, my heartbreak girl.”
Then, his free hand makes its way up and cups your cheek, and his lips connect with yours.
in your expert opinion what are some of the most destiel-heavy episodes of spn? i stopped watching around season 7 and have no interest in engaging w the plot of the show at all but i’m in the mood for some gay yearning ykwim
Hi anon! Thank you for reaching out to me about this, I’m, no-joke, very flattered. I’d seen a couple posts on this same question, very thorough and detailed lists on Destiel-centric episodes, but at the moment I cannot find any of them, that would’ve answered your request much faster. So, in advance, sorry, my reply is probably coming in extremely late, but I did write this from scratch, so yeah.
Even though storylines in SPN can be very shitty and hollow, I do feel that to get the full Destiel experience -that long-drawn yearning- one would have to watch the entirety of the show, even if Cas isn’t in the episode or if there’s no explicit mention of their relationship/bond because it gives you a better understanding of them as characters and of how their relationship affects the narrative.
Now, you mentioned you stopped around S7, which is completely understandable and justified given the Dick plot game was very weak and, in my opinion, annoying (so little Cas!). I’m going to start listing from S7 in case you want to refresh your SPN before jumping straight into unseen episodes. Also, since you mentioned no interest in the plot and are specifically craving those sweet crumbs of gay yearning, I’ll skip most one-sided / too subtle episodes and cut to the chase.
Lastly, I hate spoiling things, but you’ve probably seen it all on Tumblr. I tried to keep the episodes’ descriptions short, as it might come in useful. Stuck to key words, quotes and/or little comments.
 Season 7
7x01 – Meet the New Boss: Godstiel, sincere apology. Cas: “I'm gonna find some way to redeem myself to you.”
Season 8 (this season is so good and Destiel is the driving motor of it, I swear. If you can, watch it complete.)
8x01 – We Need to Talk About Kevin: Dean in Purgatory looking for the angel.  Cas is referred to as “your [Dean’s] angel.”
 Season 10
10x01 – Black: Demon!Dean and sick/brokenhearted Cas in a slutty robe missing his man.
10x09 – The Things We Left Behind: That.Lunch.Date. Deancas introduction to co-parenting.
10x14 – The Executioner’s Song: We get Daddy Murder aka Cain. This is a Pivotal episode to understand Dean’s character development. Plus, it has Deancas interactions.
10x18 – Book of the Damned: Charlie meets Cas. Gay energies everywhere. Cute domestic little scene.
10x20 – Angel Heart: PARENTING! Essential to understand Cas from this point forward.
10x22 – The Prisoner: Just… just watch it. One of THEE Destiel episodes.
10x23 – Brother’s Keeper: No Deancas interactions but it’s the finale, and I recommend watching it because next season takes off literally right from here. No time jumps.
 Season 11
11x02 – Form and Void: Could skip to the very end which is when Cas comes back.
11x03 – The Bad Seed: Cursed!Cas. Dean takes care of him, even wraps him in a blanket. He also cradles his face. Extreme Hurt/Comfort. Jacting joices rejoice.
11x10 – The Devil in the Details: Could skip but has Casifer in it. Interesting to see his dynamic with Dean.
12x23 – All Along the Watch Tower: Hands down, one of the most distressing Destiel episodes. Cas dies.
 Season 13
13x01 – Lost and Found: This is the worst because you have Dean trying to assimilate Cas’ death. Core of Dean’s widow’s arc. Jack introduction, that’s their new kid.
13x02 – The Rising Son: Widow’s arc (you could skip it, but why would you?).
13x03 – Patience: Widow’s arc (you could skip it, but why would you?). Dean to Sam “He manipulated him, he made him promises, said, ‘paradise on earth’ and Cas bought it and you know what that got him? It got him dead! Now you might be able to forget about that, but I can’t!”
13x04 – The Big Empty: Continuation of widow’s arc and Cas wakes up in the Empty. The Empty to Cas: "I know who you love. There's nothing for you back there." // Dean to Sam “I need you to keep the faith, for both of us. ‘Cause right now, I… Right now, I don’t believe in a damn thing.”
14x20 – Moriah: Tense and very upsetting. Relationship very damaged.
 Season 15 (I would advise watching the entire season because it relies heavily on Destiel. They’re the heart and the emotional motor leading the plot onwards.)
15x01 – Back and To The Future: Deancas’ in the aftermath of their kid’s death. Tension gets worse.
15x02 – Raising Hell: Tension rises, this is very intense. Cas “Dean. You asked, "What about all of this is real?" We are.”
15x03 – The Rupture: Breaking point ends in divorce.
15x09 – The Trap: MASTERPIECE. Back to Purgatory. Can (and is) taken as Dean’s love confession (because it is).
15x12 – Galaxy Brain: So married. Little domestic date, you can see LOVE written in their faces.
15x13 – Destiny’s Child: AU!Dean and Sam. Not a yearning episode per se, but AU!Dean? SO GAY.
15x17 – Unity: God reveals that the only act of free will in any universe he ever created has been Cas choosing Dean.
15x18 – Despair: Cas confesses his love to Dean.
Too Much, My Love
Fandom: Rise of the Guardians Pairing: Jack Frost/Pitch Black, Nicholas St. North/Krampus Tags: Humor, Fluff, The Talk, Embarrassment, Anxiety, Mild Angst, Krampus has better things to do than this, But North asked nicely so Rating: T Words: 2,545 Summary: North has some tips for Jack on how to date the enemy.
The thing is, Jack hadn't meant for anyone to know.
For @rotgbingo 2021: Dating The Boss On AO3 Here.
For @cynical-bonehead, who gave me the original idea to do this <3
“Jack.”
North’s warm, heavy hand settled on Jack’s shoulder and instantly filled the Guardian with dread. Normally his touch was a comfort, but combined with the tone of his voice and just that one word, his name… Jack pressed his lips together and fought the urge to run.
Whatever it was, North would be kind.
“Yes?”
“We must talk,” North said, sliding his hand down Jack’s back and steering him up the stairs toward the workshop. “It is time.”
This did not bode well. ...Actually, this bode perfectly neutral. Every time North took Jack to the workshop, it was for some serious topic of conversation delivered in North’s particular brand of intense, but it usually worked out okay for Jack. It would just be, you know, intense.
Jack took a breath and reminded himself that he hadn’t done anything to annoy North in at least a month and the man’s patience was near infinite so Jack had no reason to be concerned now.
Jack’s entire self pep-talk flew right out the window, along with his sense of how the world worked, when North opened the door to reveal who would be with them for today’s lecture.
He was tall. So tall. Distinctly reddish in hue, with a standing posture that filled Jack with foreboding just from the shape of it. North’s workshop was the absolute last place Jack expected to find Krampus.
How did he even get in here with horns that big?
North calmly closed the door behind them, and it never occured to Jack that Krampus might not have been invited. The only spirit, to Jack’s knowledge, to make it past the yetis was Pitch, and although Jack didn’t doubt Krampus could get in if he tried, the idea that he would choose to do it stealthily and wait patiently for them to discover him was not on brand.
Also, North didn’t immediately start yelling. That was a huge hint.
Krampus smiled and Jack took a step back. It was only half-voluntary.
“Hello Jackson.”
Wait. Jack’s brows came together and he took his step forward again. “That’s not my name”
Krampus’s whole face tilted, and Jack regretted his step all over again. “Are you sure?”
“...I was two seconds ago.”
“Jack!” North’s voice caught his attention and the tone was so relaxed and friendly that despite the horror in the corner, he felt his muscles loosen out of the knots they’d worked themselves into. “This is what we must talk about.”
Jack was so confused. “Is Krampus joining the Guardians?”
That was definitely a no, because both North and Krampus burst into laughter and Jack felt really stupid for the whole minute it took them to catch their breath.
“Then what?” he asked, irritation creeping up his shoulders at the fact he had to ask at all. Why was North leaving him to guess? More importantly, if North was bringing him here for a talk, why did it feel like Jack was being left out of a big joke?
“No no no,” North said with a shake of his head. His hand landed on Jack’s shoulder again, and this time it felt comforting and inclusive and instantly lowered Jack’s hackles down from high alert. “Is a good joke, Jack. Krampus is not Guardian. He is husband!”
Jack stared up at North, his brain refusing to comprehend. The room sort of darkened at the edges and Jack heard but didn’t really feel the crack in his voice when he asked, “What?”
North moved away from Jack and stood next to Krampus on the other side of the room. It helped—Jack suddenly felt like he could breathe again—but also hurt—what was North doing with a terrifying Anti-Santa spirit all the way over there?—and left Jack more uncertain than he’d been even when he outright rejected the words coming out of North’s mouth.
“We are husbands!” North said again, and at least Jack felt like he heard him this time. “This is how I know, and why I must be who talks to you.”
Jack… just did not understand. “About what?”
North looked at him with concerned eyes in a determinedly jovial face. Great, now they were both confused. “Pitch Black of course!”
Jack was always cold, so he was usually numb to it. Now, the unnatural chill of shock and fear dropped hard over his shoulders and settled heavily in his stomach. "What?"
North reached for Jack with one large hand, but they were standing too far away for him to reach. His smile dimmed as concern took a stronger hold of his features. "Jack? Are you alright?"
"Yeah, of course," he said on instinct. Why wouldn't he be alright? He couldn't feel his hands or feet right now and the workshop was looking a little gray around the edges, but Jack was fine.
North came closer still. He obviously didn't believe Jack. Jack wasn't sure Jack believed Jack. "You look pale."
"That's normal," Jack insisted. Which, it was, so… "Why do we need to talk about Pitch?"
North nodded, back bent in the sort of crouch one assumed when trying to convince a wild animal that you weren't dangerous. "You and him are dating, no?"
The chill flashed to heat in a bare second. Jack's entire head felt hot. "What? No. What?"
"It is okay," North assured, lips pulling into a tentative, calming smile. "I understand. You see? Because I am dating malicious spirit, too!"
Jack needed to sit down. There was a tabletop behind him. Jack sat on that.
He felt it when his hand knocked over a prototype toy plane on its way to his staff, and Jack considered that a good sign even if he didn't react to pick it up again. He leaned on his staff instead, and focused on breathing.
How did North know? They had been so careful, only meeting in deserted places or enclosed spaces. There should have been no way to find out. If North knew, did that mean…
Jack's head shot up. "Who else knows?"
"No one!" North said too quickly. Then, "probably Sandy."
Jack felt betrayal for all of two seconds before he realized Sandy could read dreams and… okay, yeah, that checked out.
"Who knows about you?" It felt fair to ask.
North nodded shortly. "Sandy."
Seemed legit.
Jack felt himself calming now that the initial shock had passed. North wasn't accusing him of anything. He really did seem to want nothing more than to talk about it.
"Okay…" The problem was, Jack still didn't know what there was to talk about. "So?"
"So!" North said with a flourish. Clearly he'd gotten his confidence back. "I want you to know you can talk to me!"
"About?"
"Pitch!" North leaned forward like he was telling Jack a secret, but the volume of his voice made secrets impossible. "Bad guys can be frustrating."
"Tell me about it," Jack deadpanned.
"Is that what I am?" Krampus said, instantly reminding Jack that he was actually going to be here for this whole conversation. "A bad guy?"
North grinned at him. Krampus might as well have been the only person in the room, by the way North was looking at him. Jack got the impression this was a running joke between them. "The baddest."
This was a side of North Jack hadn’t seen before. But why would he? This was North’s private life, and although Jack knew he was important to North, he wasn’t this kind of important to him.
Wait a second.
Jack’s hand landed hard on the tabletop in indignation. “I thought I was top of the naughty list?”
Krampus snorted a laugh and it was the most unsettling sound Jack had heard in a long time, but North’s eyes were back on Jack and his hand was waving dismissively in the air. “Different kind of naughty, Jack.”
“Augh!” Jack pressed both hands to his ears, then his eyes (which did nothing), then his ears again. “Is this how every kid feels when they think about their parents having sex?!”
Instead of the exhausted sort of patience Jack expected from such a display of childishness, North’s eyes grew large and wet with adoration. “You think of me like parent?”
Jack paused his dramatics to really look at North. Did the big guy really not know? Jack’s hands fell away from his ears as he said, “Yeah. Of course.”
The next thing he knew, North had Jack in a tight hug that was all warmth and excitement, with no room in between for things like doubt or air to breathe. Jack’s staff was somewhere on the floorboards behind him, but Jack’s feet weren’t on the ground to help him find it. Jack focused on holding onto North instead, and on the fact that North apparently hadn’t known the role Jack imagined for him in Jack’s life.
“I did not think you wanted parent, Jack,” North said without putting him down. His arms loosened a little, but that was as far away as North was letting him get for now. “Three hundred years is a little old for coddling,” he teased.
Jack laughed. He could admit the situation was a little strange, but they were spirits. They couldn’t help that. “You’ve still been around longer,” he pointed out.
North nodded in that sagely way he did and set Jack down on his perch. “Even better that I be the one to talk to you, then.”
Jack was going to wholly ignore that for as long as he could, because parental talks with their children about dating were never not horribly embarrassing for the kids. He leaned around North’s bulk to look Krampus dead in the eyes.
“I’m calling you Krampapa now.”
It was only fair. He was married to Jack’s dad, right? That’s how that worked.
Krampus didn’t look even mildly upset, which sort of mildly upset Jack, actually. He lifted his horned head in a regal yet foreboding way and simply said, “Acceptable.”
...Man really knew how to take the fun out of things, didn’t he? Jack was going to have to try harder.
After all, they were like family now.
North was beaming at the pair of them, and that made Jack feel better about everything instantly.
“About Pitch—”
Well, there went that.
A sudden cold wind in the workshop shut them up, and while Jack looked around to find the source, he noticed Krampus staring at a very specific spot, like he already knew what was coming. He probably did.
“Now,” a voice echoed hollowly off the wooden walls at the same moment that the lights dimmed in the workshop, and Jack knew instantly who it was. How could he not? “Why did you ask me here, Krampu—”
Pitch Black stopped short barely a second after materializing and stared with wide eyes at his audience full of Guardians.
He whirled on Krampus. “Is this a trap?!”
Unfortunately, Jack’s tone dead, “Yes,” coincided exactly with North’s empathic, “No!”
Pitch sized them up. Krampus wasn’t giving anything away, so Pitch had to make due with the easier targets in the room. Jack figured his defensive posture, curled half-behind North on the worktop, probably gave everything away.
He turned back to Krampus. “What is the meaning of this?”
“That I love my husband very much,” Krampus answered without missing a beat. His voice carried the boredom of a thousand years and the experience of just as long. “And that I would do anything for him, including subject myself to this.”
North was beaming again.
Pitch met Jack’s gaze.
“Explain.”
Jack pressed his lips together. Pitch wasn’t going to like this. “North is giving me The Talk.”
Pitch visibly winced and glared at Krampus. “And you brought me here for this?”
“Of course!” North boomed, arms thrown wide in the air in celebration. “It cannot be just one! Dating good guys can be frustrating, too!”
Krampus was nodding, but it looked like he was nodding to himself. “Some days.”
Pitch’s lip was pulling up into a snarl. The last thing Jack wanted was for him to lash out and make his relationship with the other Guardians even worse, so he slid down from the table and held his hands out placatingly. “Look, it’s okay. They mean well. Alright?”
Pitch didn’t look convinced, but the way North set a comforting and supportive hand on Jack’s shoulder and Krampus outright stared him down seemed to keep his behavior in check for now. He was going to be so grumpy later.
If Pitch managed to behave for this whole thing, Jack would owe him so many cuddles.
North seemed to take Pitch’s lack of retort as consent, because he slapped Jack on the back and loudly proclaimed, “First things first!”
He turned to face Jack and held his shoulders with both hands. “I have noticed in meetings. You react when Pitch Black is said. You should not.”
The hot feeling was returning to Jack’s face. His ears felt particularly on fire this time. “Am I really that obvious?”
North shrugged one shoulder, swaying his head back and forth as if to say ‘not really.’ However, Krampus behind him nodded resolutely. “Yes.”
North gave his husband a look. “Only if you know what to look for.” He smiled reassuringly at Jack and patted his shoulder. “I think Tooth and Bunny think it is to do with Tooth Palace and Easter Incident.”
Jack didn’t feel reassured at all.
“And you!” North said, spinning dramatically toward Pitch. “Work stays at work! You must let Jack be Guardian.” With a theatrical whirl, North turned on Jack. “And you must let him be Boogeyman!”
Pitch was taken aback. It was written all over his face. “But all you ever do is try to stop me.”
North’s hands came up in a very cut and dry sort of gesture, one hand slicing into the other with every word. “Work stays at work!” Then he pointed at Pitch. “When Jack is Guardian, he stops you. When Jack is boyfriend,” North lowered his hand and shrugged, “he does what he wants.”
“What about when I’m both?” Jack couldn’t help but ask.
North’s gaze softened immediately. “Dangerous to think, Jack. You want him to be happy, yes? Then you must let him be who he is.”
That was incredibly profound and Jack honestly hadn’t even considered it before. The shock he was feeling was written all over Pitch’s face when Jack locked eyes with him across the room. Jack did want him to be happy, and they had been working on compromises, but… overall, yeah. North’s words made sense.
"And now about making love!"
"Nope," Pitch said. The assembled group almost hadn't heard him though, because he’d dropped through the floor so fast.
That was his cue. Jack turned on his heel and took the opportunity to yeet himself through the open workshop window. "I'm out."
Left behind, North stared in stunned silence at the place where Jack had been. He eventually turned to Krampus, clearly confused. "Did I say something?"
Krampus took his own time to stare at his partner. North could be dangerously oblivious. It would be annoying if it were not so adorable. He patted North's hair comfortingly.
"Too much, My Love. Too much."
BOCW Characters and their MBTIs
Summary:
The characters of BOCW take the MBTI Personality Test and find out their personality types. They were a bit shocked. Some can't believe it while others believe it fully.
A/N:
The link to the MBTI test is above if you still don't know your personality type and want to find out. It's a long test, but worth answering. More information about the personality will be in the parenthesis beside the character.
It was a bit hard taking the test because I had to picture myself as them answering it in their character.
These aren't exactly their MBTIs, but this is a depiction based on their overall character from the events in the games (Black Ops Series)
I hope I did my best!
Typing the Turtles (ROTTMNT) Part 3 - Leonardo
This started out as an investigation into the turtles’ insecurities, because one thing the show does so well is demonstrate that they are still teenagers. And being a teenager is a confusing experience - there’s angst, drama, exploring one’s identity, a lot of growth, and overall figuring out who you are. That’s a messy process, too! And we see this mess in our turtles: they mess up, they’re learning, they self-doubt, they have fears and insecurities, but they’re also discovering their strengths and how to overcome their inner obstacles.
So after thinking about all this way too long, here’s my psychological breakdown of each turtle (I’ll be referencing MBTI and the Enneagram a ton, but will include links for more general information on those if you don’t know what I’m talking about).
Parts One and Two found on the links for Raph and Don.
Leo: ESTP, 3w2
The Achiever, the Entrepreneur, the Charmer, the Explorer
I’ve wanted to say this for a long time: Leo is such a 3, he is such a 3 it hurts, oh my goodness. Read this: https://www.enneagraminstitute.com/type-3 and tell me that isn’t Leo to a T.
It took me a little longer to figure out the MBTI for him, but he has a lot of similarities with the ESTP. This does mean we need to step away from the ‘frat bro’ stereotype of ESTPs, though. They are a lot more keen than convention would suggest.
Really, a big thing with Leo is his need to be The Best. What that means, to him, is normally something physically-related. He needs to be the best at sports or performing certain moves, which we see in episodes like The Longest Fight where he bets he can pull off the impossible skateboard move, or Shell in a Cell where he asserts he can out-perform Ghostbear. Additionally, episodes like Air Turtle really showcase the ugly side of his competitiveness. But he also desires physical perfection. He is rather image-conscious, fretting about his body in Stuck on You, and routinely referring to himself as the team’s Faceman. The biggest example of this was his idea for a disguise in Hidden City Job: the Turtle Adonis. An adonis is considered the peak physical ideal, handsome and attractive to boot. If this drive doesn’t scream Enneagram Three I don’t know what does.
Tumblr media
Leo at his worst: Leo’s competitive side can certainly get the best of him. We see this in episodes like Air Turtle, where his ‘win at all costs’ attitude starts to alienate him from the group. Raph has also described him as a ‘poor winner’ which refers to his tendency to gloat when he does beat out the competition, or was proven right (Bug Busters, The Gumbus, You Got Served, LAIR GAMES). He’s smug, gloating, and when he does lose tries to wiggle out of it through technicalities. The one time he says something isn’t a competition is after Mikey beats him at Skateball (You Got Served). And when he ‘loses’ the Lair Games, Donnie’s win comes with a catch that Leo built in.
Tumblr media
Threes do this for approval and validation, though, and we see that underlying his need to be the team’s Champion in Minotaur Maze and Portal Jacked! “I’m nothing without them!” he cries to Hueso. “What good is a team with just a Faceman?” Threes have a need to distinguish themselves from others, to be admired, to have attention, so that they then feel valuable and worthwhile. Other people, then, are necessary. When Leo wants to get on the Wall of Champions in Minotaur Maze, his brothers factor in to his unmet needs. “...because what good is being a Champion if you can’t rub it in your brothers’ faces?” Leo doesn’t just need to be The Best… he needs others to acknowledge it, as well.
Average Leo: He’s got a practical eye for situations and the quickness to adapt and act as needed. The ESTP is known for being bold as well as perceptive. We see this in fight scenes such as Battle Nexus: New York when he is quick to determine that physical comedy is the key to making the sprite laugh and immediately changing his approach.
He also displays a remarkable amount of common sense when making decisions. In Origami Tsunami, as the guys discuss becoming heroes, he’s the one who shoots down ideas until they reach a more achievable goal: taking on paper thieves. And he’s got a point, can you imagine the turtles taking on a spine-breaker or mangler at that point in time? When everyone else is blinded by ideals concerning fixing the Mutant Menace, he’s the only one who asks “anybody down for staying home during the anti-mutant panic?” Of course, he still goes along with their adventure, because ESTP’s live in The Moment, so why not?
Something else that I want to mention is Leo’s appreciation for the Machiavellian. He has an incredibly intuitive grasp on it, and actively appreciates twists, turns, betrayals and deceptions. His love for magic probably stems from this (The Clothes Don’t Make the Turtle) and he is the only one enjoying the series of betrayals in Warren & Hypno Sitting in a Tree. Hidden City Job also expands on the fact that Leo doesn’t have a problem with betrayal, as he revels about brotherly betrayal happening all the time. He’s cool with being betrayed… just know that he can betray you back. It’s all fair game.
Tumblr media
This can have upsides and downsides. On the upside, his understanding of trickery can lead to brilliant plans and solutions such as what we saw in Many Unhappy Returns, where he was able to outsmart Big Mama herself. On the downside, this kind of behavior is not always the best move - his family does not appreciate being left out of the loop of his schemes, or actively being manipulated as part of them (Leo’s plan in Many Unhappy Returns worked, but he still left his brothers alone and exhausted, and did not consider the emotional effect it would have on Splinter being sent back into the arena). At that point it’s no wonder he asks “why does no one trust me?” Because you tend to have an angle, ‘Nardo. Be careful how you use that.
He is also incredibly persuasive. This is partly why I feel he is a 3 wing 2, ‘The Charmer’ because he knows how to communicate to get what he wants. When used for the right reasons, we see him settle discord such as cooling the mobs in You Got Served or apologize when he knows an apology is needed (Todd Scouts, Air Turtle, Hidden City Job). We see it used neutrally (and a bit skeptically) in Many Unhappy Returns when he declares he’ll just go to see Big Mama and “turn up the Leo”. It can also be used deceptively, however. Todd Scouts shows this when Leo is the one who convinces Todd that they’re ready to kick things up a notch by going out alone… when really they just want to get away from him. He’ll also use words to get under people’s skins: dismissing Warren Stone in Stuck on You, but also pointing out Donnie’s beach ball fear in Mind Meld. He knows which words will get the responses he wants, for better or for worse.
Leo at his Best: Leo is the team’s motivator. He’s the one giving the others the pep-talks and encouragement they need to continue (Origami Tsunami, Finale: Rise). Donnie said it best after Leo’s redemption in Air Turtle: “your confidence is giving me confidence!”
Because that’s the healthy thing about Threes: they strive to reach their own full potential, which also inspires others to reach theirs. Leo doesn’t like to fail/lose, but he won’t let anyone else succumb, either. He has the most confidence in each Mad Dog’s ability. “I knew you guys could handle it!” he says in Many Unhappy Returns, and points out with amazing accuracy just what his brothers are capable of. He not only believes in himself, he believes in those around him. And he’s able to inspire them when they’re feeling down about their own abilities or not enthused about the task (see his speech about standing up for the paper men in Origami Tsunami).
Tumblr media
This also includes encouragement and compliments in other areas. Regarding the Shell Hogs: “Donnie, these are amazing! And I know everything I say sounds sarcastic, but I’m being completely genuine this time” (Stuck on You). When Mikey isn’t sure Hypno will like him: “What? Of course he will, you’re adorable!” (Newsworthy). To Raph, “Does this place have smoke detectors? Because you’re on fire, Big Daddy!” (The Clothes Don’t Make the Turtle).
He’s also able to step in and take charge when Raph falls because he can see what action needs to be taken (that practical and observant, yet bold ESTP side coming in). When Raph gets separated in the sewers, Leo’s the one who doesn’t treat it casually and gets the others moving to find him (Man vs Sewer). When his older brother is hypnotized by Hypno in Stuck on You, he quickly reacts and tells Mikey and Donnie what the plan is and enacts it. We see this leader potential grow bit by bit, and his awareness of each individual’s role on the team allows him to step back from areas that he knows aren’t his forte: Raph can handle the ‘teamwork’ stuff, Donnie has got the technical know-how, and Mikey takes care of positive outlook for any situation. Leo can keep things fun and inspire confidence. His puns help lighten the mood, his jokes break the ice of tense situations, and he never stops believing in their own abilities, which keeps them all going (Donnie’s Gifts, Many Unhappy Returns).
Leo Relationships:
(While Leo has a competitive episode with each of his brothers: Shell in a Cell, Lair Games, and You Got Served, there is more going on than just that).
Raph: Both Leo and Raph have strong gut feelings that can be blindsided. Leo picks up immediately that Big Mama is not trustworthy while Raph is more than happy to believe her, but Leo is blinded by his fan-love for Jupiter Jim to realize that Marcus Montcrief is a crazy and suspicious adult, which Raph becomes aware of early on (Bug Busters, Jupiter Jim Ahoy!). They both can be a little too head-first when diving into plans, such as checking out the creepy bus in One Man’s Junk or doing their best to help April in Hypno: Part Deux. But they do trust each other to have each other’s backs, and there’s (thankfully!) no Leo vs Angst in this version of their characters. It really allows them to be comfortable with each other (and egg each other on with more than just missions: see the pizza pigeon in Mind Meld).
Tumblr media
Donnie: In some ways Leo acts like a foil for Donnie. His own natural confidence counterbalances a lot of his twin’s insecurities. They butt heads over it, sure, with Donnie perhaps taking things too seriously and Leo seemingly not taking them seriously enough, but I like I said in Donnie’s typing: one’s chill and one’s uptight. There’s a ton of back and forth between them: they are the epitome of siblings fighting one minute and getting up to no good together the next (Example from The Mystic Library: Leo grooves out with Donnie’s rap one moment and tries to get him kicked off the team in the next scene). They may antagonize each other in Lair Games, Smart Lair, the beginning of Snow Day and Hidden City Job, and so much more, but also demonstrate brotherly love (and antics) in Operation: Normal, the end of Hidden City Job and Smart Lair, and, of course, Battle Nexus: New York. “For Donnie’s honor!”
Tumblr media
Mikey: Leo sticks up for Mikey a fair amount, especially to Raph. He supports Mikey trying to open the portal in Mystic Mayhem, and going out on his first solo mission in Hot Soup: The Game. We actually need more Leo and Mikey episodes; of the two we have one is a competition episode (You Got Served), and The Gumbus has Leo tag along intent on proving Mikey wrong. It seems they like to hang out during the down time a lot, as they play in the arcade and skateboard off-screen in episodes such as Mrs. Cuddles, You Got Served, Mind Games, and Sparring Partner. And of course, we have the gripping image of Leo protecting Mikey’s shell with his own in Battle Nexus: New York. I’d really like to see them get up to more shenanigans, though. (hint, hint @nickelodeon, @netflix).
Tumblr media
Ultimately, Leo is a confident, competitive turtle striving to reach his full potential. He is normally great at encouraging his brothers to do the same, and devising grand strategies, but tends to forget the emotional effects his actions can have on them, especially if he gets carried away on his quest to be The Best. He’s still learning, and these traits will likely flesh out as he grows into a more leader-like role.
