I had a dream that Phil joined another smp and we eneded up getting more q!Phil lore and now that I woke up I'm lamenting it's not real ;;;;

Bits I remember is him reaching the End with someone else through almost a glitch? Like they were leaving the nether just as a ghast tried exploding the portal and it took them theyre. But like Phil finds a message for him in there? With a green feather in it.

So he follows the message and finds a secret base in the Overworld where he runs into Chay and Lullah???? But as if theyd hatched and became proper players. And it seems fine cause it's Sunmin and Ama voicing them but Phil feels a bit wary (and theres a point where "Lullah" makes a joke in portuguese instead of spanish and Phil corrects her) so the vibes are that it's something mimicking them or straight up hallucinations.

And after he leaves we get revealed that he's still somewhat possesed by the Ender King???? As in the jerk figured out a way to do the more subtle possesion and just influencing Phil and making him forget chunks of time where he was more in control.

I was gonna get villain Phil in my dream and now i'll never know how it goes ;;;;;;

Allow me to take thos and run for a moment, imagine with me real quick:

My personal belief is that person he went to the Nether/End with was Fit or Etoiles. Or maybe Pierre. Those are largely the people he'd break shit with.

I fuck SO HARD with "Ender King never fully left Phil's body, he left a shred of himself in him Just In Case and it's undetectable (for now)."

I don't know why I'm so stuck on the green feather. Like... Who or what could that be? Idk why I'm so hooked on it, something about that is just so compelling but I've got nothing as to how to run with it. Though for him to find the feather with the message and then find the kids hatched,,, Idk, maybe Chayanne has feathery wings that are green (bc you KNOW Lullah's would be purple).

Also possibly fake Chayanne and Lullah ooouuuuhhhh... Consider: It IS them but that shred of Ender King is amplifying Phil's already usually easy-to-trigger paranoia. Not to mention we don't know how long after QSMP this is, the kids could have plenty of time to change and learn. It'd make sense that Lullah would want to carry on her memory of the Brazilians by learning Portuguese and even if not that, it's not unreasonable to say that During QSMP she could've picked up plenty of Portuguese things from the Brazilians themselves. It's just that Phil has never heard (or perhaps doesn't remember ;D) her making such references.

This is post-QSMP ending since you said it was a new SMP. This is post Death Family finale. As far as Phil knows, his kids are either dead, asleep forever, or hatched into crows back home in Hardcore. How could they have left there to hatch? It's too good to be true. He refuses to believe it's them (at first) because he doesn't want to get his hopes up. He doesn't want to reopen that wound, it's not even closed yet in the first place!

AND THE SPICE OF HIM STILL BEING PARTIALLY POSSESSED. THE KIDS NOT KNOWING YET AND HAVING TO REALIZE IN REAL TIME AND HAVE THE HORROR DAWN ON THEM. AUGH. Like when they see him for the first time, it's SO CLEAR he's doing TERRIBLE and not even just because of the partial possession.

He hasn't been readjusting well to being alone in Hardcore again. He's disheveled, he clearly hasn't been sleeping well, he's closed off, standoffish, a little cold. Not the warm, chill, smiley father still fresh in their minds. He's resistant to making new friendships on this new SMP because he hasn't overcome the pain of saying goodbye in QSMP and is he Hyperaware that eventually he'll have to say goodbye again here and he Does Not Want To. He is just Not doing well mentally and you can physically see it when you look at him.

The fucking spice of the kids not being around to be vigilant and catch that shred of EK sooner, the fact that Phil's been in such a bad state that EK has just been free to fester inside him. And you KNOW the kids would blame themselves for not being around to be vigilant.

Phil doesn't know EK is still hiding in his body yet, he doesn't Know what's festering inside of him, and it's actually hard to say if he'd do anything about it if he Did know because he's so depressed and hurt, he's still grieving. After all, in canon, Phil was very upfront with the kids post-possession that if anything ever happened to them again, he'd give up and just let EK take him.

But I bet you Chayanne and Lullah would remember him saying that as soon as they clock that there's a shred of EK lurking in their dad. And they'd be TERRIFIED that it's on the verge of becoming a reality.

Why i dont actively ship PPGxRRB:

I'm scrapping my drafted essay post about this for now because its really uncalled for and unnecessary. IDK sorry to anyone who looked forwards 2 it, but i just dont think i illustrate my point very well and more than half of it is lowkey a biased vent post and pure rambling. Either way this is the TLDR for the post you'll never see LOL.

But actually, I do ship PPGxRRB, i've just drifted away from it over the years. I think one of the biggest 'problems' i have with PPG x RRB is mainly with the portrayal of it. My main issue is with how a lot of people mischaracterize the RRB/PPG and completely deconstruct them as characters so that they can be love interests for the eachother and nothing more. One of my points in my scrapped post was that; I have no idea how an entire fandom managed to gender-bend the Bechdel test, but it is rare that i find PPGxRRB media where the RRB have actual lives, interests, hobbies, and friends that have nothing to do with the PPG. Half the time they can barely have a thought if it isn't about the PPG. As i said, Gender-bent Bechdel test.

Another point was that: ppgxrrb has gained a horrible reputation for itself over the years. Back in its "Glory" days, Toxic fans of the ships had bulldozed anything that differs from their favorite empty dynamics. Those usually being The Reds, Blues, and Greens. Nowadays i still see almost nothing in the realms of variety between creators interpretations of the ships. Almost every time i see a PPGxRRB post, it can fit into a set dynamic that the ship is already infamous for.

I want to be able to see the creators love and passion for their ships. I want to know how and why these characters ended up together. If a story is to be told, i want to hear it. I know that the majority of PPGxRRB creators are, by default, amateurs (they dont get paid and its not on a professional scale), but after seeing the exact same badly written love story hundreds , maybe even thousands of times with little-to-no variety, I've gotten bored and tired of people devaluing my favorite characters to be nothing more than overplayed dynamics and shipping fuel.

A lot of people like shipping because of the dynamics, but ship dynamics don't hook me in, and ive noticed that most PPGxRRB stuff is purely ship dynamics and nothing more. Theres nothing wrong with loving ship dynamics or being drawn to ships for their specific dynamics! I just dont care about dynamics, i care about chemistry and story. But most amateurs cant effectively show the chemistry or write the story, a lot of them can barely characterize the 2 characters in their ships.

FYI this isnt about anyone specific or even many recent fans of PPGxRRB. I've been in/around the online PPG fandom since before 2016, and a lot of my thoughts/feelings on the matter have a lot to do with stuff that happened over the years i've loved this series, and more specifically, The RowdyRuff Boys.

To be clear: When i say that they are mischaracterized, i'm not talking about HC's. I'm just tired of seeing the PPG and RRB dulled down into one-note personalities with stereotypical characterization and almost always no tangible character development. A love story is still a story, and a lot of shippers seem to half ass the "story" for favor of the "love".

I dont hate or even dislike PPG x RRB. I'm just really tired of rarely seeing people do the RRB justice, and i want these characters to be treated with the full respect that i think they deserve.

The Heart Killers EP 7 - (text) reaction

After two full weeks, I am ready. Spoiler alert - this episode is 1000000000/10 for me.

PART 1 / 4

I've seen so many times EP6, and all the previous EPs to be honest, these days and yet the preview hits hard. I don't remember EVER being so invested in a series. A combination of my 2 favorite ships with my favourite director outside of school/uni does the trick.

Please, Kant, say the truth! Bison told you more than once that he appreciates being told the truth before hand - since you don't already know he knows. I don't think I believe the captain when he said Bison would have killed him if he told the truth. He would be angry, sure, but if Bison knew he did it for Babe, I think he would understand. Not sure about their relationship though.

Sh*t, Bison's with Babe. Bison, didn't you have to be with Fadel? Or at least, that's what you told Kant at the bar. Surprise you say? Mmmh, maybe some time has passed since last EP, ok.

Wow, this Bison and the Bison we saw in the last frame of EP6 are (or rather, seem) 2 different people. His acting is scary ... Khaotung is literally awesome.

Happy birthday, Bison! So, 25 now? I do wonder if it's even real or just a ruse to get Kant. Also, how many birthdays are they celebrating in the making of this series - First, Dunk and Khaotung celebrated theirs while filming, now Bison too.

2 nights ago … no, not the trophy. I am crying same as Bison. That trophy was like a symbol of an innocent Bison, a sweet waiter, not a cruel cold-blooded killer. And he literally burnt it.

He also told Fadel about how Style got into the mess; right, he knew about Style not being 100% truthful, I forgot. "I trust you more than anyone" - this hurt like a mother trucker. At least he's honest, we'll give Bison that. Joong and Khaotung, you both own this scene - congratulations!! Cannot compliment you enough.

"Nothing hurts more than betrayal" after he just found out that he was betrayed by both Style and Bison, the two people he loves and (let's face it) trusts more in his life. Oh, Fadel! I feel for you.

"And I mean crazy in love, not crazy like a psycho." LOL Fadel, yeah should have been more specific. You need to explain it very well to Bison.

Man, how much it hurt Bison to say "My boyfriend's the best" … kudos, Khaotung!

Style shot Kant in the back, then said "Love sure makes you do something stupid" … P'Jojo!!!! and Fadel moving to stand besides his bf - foreshadowing, anyone?

Also, wait a second - those were BB guns, not paint balls … so, they'll do another one?! Maybe when all is well …..

Ooooooh, now you're looking at the footage, Bison. See, it was there all along!

Wtf?! That was gory as hell … at least it was in black and white. Fadel's imagination was horny, Style's was sensual/emotional, Bison's … scary crazy. How many ways he's killing him?!

Oh, look how quick reflexes our little hitman has! So cute, a birthday cake - "I'm still your brother". I feel like he's trying better - like Bison told him about Kant and Babe's relationship and he's trying to do better for Bison. Even if/when he's angry with him - the bestest of big brothers really. Kant is justly suspicious, Style so naive. He's also the one who knows the least, has lied the least, is the most optimistic. i feel for him. If only life were a Disney movie and we were all protagonists, Style.

Helping a stranger out of nowhere because they are killers, but good ones. I wonder if Style and/or Kant is seeing this.

Wth?! I got scared too. Style!!! Fadel was really panicking. I thought Fadel drugged him, but then he wouldn't have panicked as much.

Those are literally a thief and a professional killer; take the kid to the bathroom with you and have him wait outside your door or something.

Yep, Keen with a gun - a real gun - and his targets and a little kid. Why do I feel he won't care about that like Fadel did? It's a nice parallel they set up between Keen and Fadel, with guns and younger boys.

What?! Not him, the other guy!!! That's a plot twist. That guy looked suspicious, but man! Ok, now what? The killers are playing cops? I do love me some anti-heroes (see almost all of the characters played by Vin Diesel these past 20+ years).

LOL Style. "Take it back! You're my boyfriend!" Priorities set straight. EDIT: Apparently the official translation is too bland, he said "Her husband my a*s! You're my boyfriend!" It's even better, yeah.

Fadel was grazed … sh*t, a knife. Bison! I thought it would have been a gun shot. I don't know if this is better or worse.

Still this divertion probably saved Kant's and Style's life. At least for tonight.

So in the end Keen went undetected. Only Style saw him. Oh, how did he not recognized him from that time in the burger shop? It was a while ago, but he was looking rather intently that time. Kant should have been the only one to not recognize Keen at all.

"I am always here to help". This is such a Style phrase. I love that I got to know that about him.

Also, I love how Style's able to read Fadel so well despite how little he knows about everything. Fadel really should thank Kant for giving him Style.

Fadel's back to his old cold self, right?

"Sounds scary as hell." - yeah, because it is, sweetie. You're showing your cards, Fadel. Why?

"I want to tell you everything." Oh, Kant. Was Bison also about to cry? Even lying there on the bed. Yep, he's not asleep.

Ok, you know what? I see this as a good thing - Kant is now free from the captain. Let's join the killers team! LOL

He took him out. Damn, Bison! With a syringe, too. May I present to you unhinged Bison in action, for real. Not imagination, not stopped by Fadel.

Oh, yeah, you should worry for your friend, for yourself, Style.

Sh*t, just past them. And I bet Bison will think Kant called them on him … damn.

"F*ck, f*ck, goddam*". LOL, I see it's not just me whose saying/writing all these bad words tonight. It's not something I usually do, but I'm probably too hyped for this EP (oops).

Yep, Style realizes something's wrong. Be wary, Style! Oh, from behind, Fadel!!!!! No, poor Style. Also, Fadel was one handed - helpless, really helpless, Style.

The final confrontation - Fadel's voice coming from out of frame like the final nail to the coffin. There's no going back now. Alea iacta est.

"You work for the police." Not really, but I'm not sure how much of a difference that makes right now. Still, Style's so strong here, even almost naked and tied and with a gun to his head - impressive. And he's not telling Fadel about the car. Not that that's so important in the grand scale of things - lies, police, killers; but still. Bison came fully clean with Fadel.

So, Fadel also doesnt know where Bison is. Yep, Bison is truly crazy …. hurt crazy, but you know crazy.

P'Jojo is playing with us, Bison's the psycho crazy one, Fadel wouldnt shoot … right?

And the other bfs are at sea, of course. Make it really hurt, right Bison? He's angry crazy, phycho crazy, hurt crazy, in love crazy … all types of crazy.

Oh sh*t, was Kant also in the plane crash with his parents?!

There's no one there to help you, Kant. Man, he looks so scared - so terrified - and he's trying to calmly talk to Bison. They're both hurting so much right now, it's so painful to watch. And jump it is! I feel like I've been crying this whole episode, man. First, this episode is yours - also Joong's, but mostly yours! You should never say sorry for having played this character, it is amazing really.

Oh, he's got his clothes back - you go, Style! "Yes, Mr. Hitman. I'm scared enough as it is, no need to threaten me."

Still, if you think about it, now that Fadel's more calm than at the pool, he's back to his old self … which Style came to love. With the gun, sure, but it's old grumpy Fadel. Same hard exterior, so maybe also same soft-ish interior? I like Style's look before going to the car, it's like he feels that things are right again. And he likes that. No more too affectionate Fadel, which was too weird for him. Also, he's back to sassying Fadel, which he also enjoys.

See, the music is also Style's jam! After the big scare at the pool, all is well again for Style. EDIT: the big bad scary hitman also took his advice and went to sleep ... yeah, all is well again.

The car jumped as it went over another bump in the uneven track, jolting Jimin around, his hand still grasped around the handle above him, he kept his eyes straight ahead boring into the back of the driver's seat. The ride to their location had taken a turn into the bush, tracks from previous vehicles lead the way through the thick and dense forest, despite the rough ride it wasn't until the man beside him spoke that Jimin finally tore his eyes away from the headrest in front of him.

Turning to the side, Jimin's eyes met with the taller man, whose broad chest barely fit under the seatbelt that was wrapped around him, his long black hair and dark eyes, accompanied by his dark turtlenecked top and black coat. "Are you alright? You seemed spaced out." The man asked as he smiled.

Jimin already knew what he was going to say, the same thing he said every time someone asked this question in the last 2 weeks. "I'm fine, just tired Namjoon." Jimin gave his friend a fake smile as he responded, trying to seem more together than he really was, because the truth was, Jimin had been a wreck for the past month, he wasn't getting any sleep and kept going out on jobs to distract his mind, and when they wouldn't allow him, he would spend hours training, giving himself something else to focus on, anything else to focus on, anything, but you.

"Don't give me that shit, Jimin. I know something is up, we're almost there so tell me before we arrive." Namjoon responded half laughing at the start before his toned turned serious. "Is it about Y/n?"

Jimin grunted in agreement and turned to look out the window, his sign of saying that this conversation was over, Jimin went on this mission to stop himself from thinking about you and now you were the only thing on his mind, and this wasn't helping. All Jimin wanted to do was stay holding you in his arms and tell you everything was going to be okay.

Oh how he'd wish that he was with you, still lying in bed after the alarms had gone off, slowly watching as the morning sun lit up the room around him, tucked in bed with tangled legs, the feeling of your chest slowly rising and falling against his own as your breath fanned over his neck, he wanted to whisper sweet nothings into your ear and tell you that everything would be okay, that he'd always be here with you, but he couldn't, he wasn't, instead of spending his days with you, he was forced to be here, away from you.

Namjoon seemed to take a hint and dropped it before letting Jimin know that they were arriving.

I just love the way this scene plays out and how, despite the horrific violence, there's still something undeniably human about Benson as he goes about it. I would LOVE to hear your take!!

Holy shit my response is so long and rambling I'm so so sorry but uhhhh here's my thoughts under a cut to save people's dashboards from my dumb brain 🙈

Omg so yes this is something I think about ALL the time. Chris is, of course, a definite 100%. He was basically dead the moment he grabbed Benson's shoulder and said "...I'll have no problem turning your peaceful redneck existence into a living hell..." Benson warned him, gave him a chance to back down from bullying Randy, but Chris doubled down so RIP lol. Which was the spark that lit the first fuse.

The rest I think may have been improvised a bit but not by much. I think he planned on killing everyone, except Randy, but wasn't sure how exactly it would all go down. There's a chance Hardy might not have heard Jess screaming and never come out of the back. Which that alone I find funny that it was Jess' shrieking and not the two shotgun blasts that managed to rip him away from his morning jerk off session. So Benson might have planned on getting Hardy in the office by surprise after doing in Chris and Jess.

Jess is interesting because Benson tries to quiet her first before getting frustrated and shooting her to shut her up. Like, was bro gonna give her some speech before offing her? I wouldn't be surprised. Something about not dating entitled dickheads? I get why some people think he might not have killed her if she stopped screaming, which is a fair theory! But I also think she's been clearly joining in on the bullying and egging on Chris with her little comments and giggling like she had been earlier that morning. So I think she was already firmly on his kill list by that point, plus she would have no use to him other than being another witness—and the whole thing wasn't about her, it was about Randy, so dragging her around with them, or leaving her behind, would be pointless and risky.

Randy Randy Randy. I don't think he ever intended on killing Randy at any point, except maybe there being the risk of it happening when he was shaken after the whole Sheppard situation. At that point, Benson was so out of his own body I think almost anything could've happened, though ultimately I don't think that would've ever been on purpose, only in a knee-jerk reaction. I do think it was a liiittle bit of a test. I think Benson, like he said in the diner (the first round lol) that seeing Randy just stand there doing nothing and waiting for Benson to kill him was the only thing he believed in. He, like Benson mentioned, had been watching Randy and knew he was smart, but also knew he wouldn't do anything to stop what was happening. But I think a small part of him was hoping he would be proved wrong, hoping Randy would do something and show some agency.

And then there's Benson. I've mentioned this before but yeah, I think throughout the film he kinda goes back and forth on having a deathwish. I think when he's having his smoke and probably semi-planning what he's gonna do he is also fully aware that this is the end of the road for him and Randy is his... I don't know, I guess one last chance at redemption before ending things. Pulling Randy back from the brink of dead-end small town small thinking monotony is his like... last hurrah. Ok well maybe killing Chris and everyone is really the last hurrah, but helping Randy figure his shit out is like his last good deed, helping Randy not end up like him. When they're driving to the diner after cleaning up BBB he's in high spirits. The relaxation and acceptance phase of his road to inevitable death/suicide. But then as things progress and he learns more about Randy and everything, once they reach the school, I think at that point he had stepped back from the ledge and was thinking, maybe wishfully thinking, that he could make it out of there. But then Sheppard had to show up and ruin everything. I think Benson had started to think that maybe things could be alright, if only he could get Randy to Ms. Beard's, get that checked off the to-do list, and then they could try escaping. But Sheppard appears and reminds Benson that no matter what he can never escape. He'll never escape what happened to him, the things he's tried to forget, or who he is. So at that point it's like trying to save a sandcastle from an incoming tide. There's no use. Benson didn't have the tools to deal with seeing Sheppard, especially not on a day like that day when he had already spilled blood three times. Chris and them, maybe they deserved it to an extent in Benson's eyes, but no one deserved it more than Sheppard. So after Sheppard he's given himself whiplash. He had accepted his death, then got hopeful, and then had the ceiling cave in on him causing him to have to re-accept his fate, though not as steadfast. There's a few points after Sheppard where it feels like Benson is mentally clawing at the oncoming events in panic. Ms. Beard getting that call and answering it before they could leave. Benson hearing the sirens after Randy calls the cops. Both times it looks like he's reliving some cosmic disappointment like even though he's had to re-accept his fate, he's still desperately looking for an off-ramp. I think that's maybe what Benson means at the end. "I was never in charge, Randy." His fate or inevitable end was in charge and was something he'd already considered set in stone. Though I think that's also due to some self-sabotage. Like Randy tried to tell him, he had the opportunity to just run and never look back but instead decided to go on some self-assigned white knight quest for Randy in circles around town. Following some perceived path to "fix" Randy in ways Benson could never fix himself. Benson is a walking self-fulfilling prophecy. So to answer your question about whether I think Benson planned on killing himself after killing Chris, Jess, and Hardy (and after "helping Randy")—in my opinion, yes, I believe so. But I also think it switches back and forth from yes to no like 15 times between them leaving BBB and watching the cops pull into the diner parking lot that night, lol.

I've posted, more than once, about Sam Claflin being very down to earth, but I've not yet talked about how I experienced this first hand. It's just a personal anecdote, you may say, but I still think it speaks well of him. This was at Dream It convention in London, in September 2022. More under the cut:

I had a VIP ticket for Sam, which included a photoshoot, an autograph and a front seat at the panel. I'm not getting into how nerve-racking the whole trip to London was for me, who had not travelled more than an hour and a half away from Manchester (where I live) in the previous seven years, and the first omg he's real omg he's looking at me sight of Sam, now, that's an inspirational Ted Talk worthy tale for another day. It's about what happened later.

If you ask me how I got the idea, I'd have to answer: I don't know, bc I truly don't remember, but it must have come to me in a matter of microseconds; there was simply no more time, for anything. The convention took place at the Marriott Hotel in Grosvenor Square, they have this big room that can be used for events and that connects on one side to a corridor leading to rooms that were converted into a photography studio and an autograph room. So I stood at one end of the big room and though I had a companion, whom I met at the convention--another Sam VIP ticket holder--I was alone just then. That's when I saw Sam enter the big room through one door and it was clear he would pass by me. I knew I had to act quick. Now, in an email I had received from the convention prior to the event, they specifically instructed us not to approach any celeb if we see them walking around, understandably; you can talk to them in the time allocated for this. But I thought, what the hell, I already had my picture and autograph safely in my backpack, so if they'd kick me out, I had already got what I wanted. (I still had a ticket for Ben Barnes's autograph, but it would not have been that big of a deal for me had I missed out on it.) I also remembered the story about that woman who was rude to Lena Headey at some convention, and she seemingly got away with it. So with that in mind, I positioned myself advantageously for when Sam would pass me by with his chaperones (one was in front of him, one behind, one of them I think is his manager or publicist). And as he did pass by, I said: "Hi, Sam." Just that. Nothing more.

I imagined that he'd maybe give me a nod, or perhaps even say hi back. Not only did he say hi back--and it was a long "hiiiiii!", not just plain "hi" if you know what I mean--he followed it with: "how are you, are you alright?" He looked like... genuinely pleased, like he was happy to see me (imagine a situation where you haven't seen someone for a while and then unexpectedly bump into them at a supermarket, a similar energy--it's got to be someone you like, not someone you dislike, obvs lol), and he kept the eye contact with me until he reached the door to the corridor. Keep in mind that he was looking backwards. I know that he was at a event for meeting fans, he had his best public image face on, but still, he didn't have to go all this way to respond to my greeting. At least, IMO. He couldn't have known I was going to do that.

Then later, when I was waiting outside the autograph room, in line for Ben Barnes's autograph, I just so happened to be at the top of the queue at the door, when Sam also came into the autograph room for his autograph session (the room was made up for two celebs to sign autographs). As he was entering the room, he saw me standing there and SMILED at me again!

So yeah, that is it, that's the story. All of it couldn't have taken more than 10 seconds, which just proves how short those unforgettable moments in life can be.

Hey! I really want to get into Discworld because I love seeing you post about it- can I please get a rec of maybe the first three books I should read? I've heard that most fans have a preferred order lol

Omg, you have no idea how excited I got when I saw this ask, I'm so glad my love for this series is proving infectious! Unfortunately by asking this of me you have in fact activated my trap card, so please buckle in because I'm incapable of being normal about this topic.

Alright so in terms of where to go next, there are these sort of thematic arcs throughout the series that are like threads you can follow, each with their own starting point. Obligatory flowchart incoming:

I won't go into them all in detail, but I can give you a few key recs and then you can pick and choose your reading order from there based on what interests you.

So first of all we've got Small Gods, which is one of the more popular starter recs, and for good reason. It's more or less a stand-alone so it's a good way to dip your toe in and get a feel for the series as a whole, which is slightly less relevant here since I know you've already read The Colour of Magic, but it's still quite good and worth mentioning up front. It's about the god Om who goes to manifest himself in the world to address his latest prophet, but winds up stuck in the form of a small tortoise because despite having this huge religious institution in his name, it turns out this prophet is his only remaining true believer. Said prophet then gets swept up in some political intrigue, all the while being yelled at by an irate tortoise whose voice only he can hear. It's a good indicator of the style of comedy and general vibe of the rest of the series, and it's where I started reading so it's got a special place in my heart.

I also recommend Monstrous Regiment, which is one of my all-time favourites. It's about a girl who dresses up as a boy to enlist in the army so that she can find her brother, and ends up part of this sort of ragtag underdog regiment. It's surprisingly queer, although no specific labels get used so a lot of the characters just have a sort of nebulously not cis/not straight vibe, but there is an actual canon wlw relationship, and at least one character who based on the text I would argue is a trans man even if those exact words are never used. A lot of the Gender™ in this book really resonated with teen Rowan for reasons that wouldn't become clear until several years later lol. By modern standards of representation it does stumble a little bit, but you can tell the overall intentions were good and it still feels very queer-positive. It's also just a fun read, all the characters are really endearing, there's a vampire who has sworn off blood and is instead obsessed with coffee and I love them with my whole entire heart.

My other biggest rec is Going Postal, which is another of my all-time favourites and where the reference in my url comes from. It's about a conman who's been caught and is about to be executed, but instead gets put in charge of the city's failing postal service. It's another really fun read, and it's got two direct sequels (Making Money and Raising Steam) wherein said conman gets put in charge of other public service institutions as a form of enrichment to keep him out of trouble.

This is already long so I'll just quickly cover the other main arcs. The Watch books are all extremely good, probably my favourite arc overall, they've got more of a police procedural crime mystery vibe so if you're into that Guards! Guards! is the starting point for those. If you're interested in the witches I'd recommend skipping Equal Rites and starting with Wyrd Sisters, it's a parody of Macbeth and it's very good. The other two Industrial Revolution books are stand alones that can be read whenever; Moving Pictures is a parody of the golden age of Hollywood, and The Truth is about the invention of the printing press and the Disc's first investigative journalist looking into a conspiracy to frame the patrician for murder. The Death novels are good but not the best starting point imo, worth coming back for at some point though, and parts of Night Watch make more sense if you've read Thief of Time first but it's not required. Rincewind is also worth revisiting eventually, he is one of my favourite characters, but maybe wait until you're already hooked before going back for The Light Fantastic and the rest of his books.

Chapter 8: Times Square

He waited for me to let go, so he knew I was okay. And after a moment I did.

"Sorry Aaron, I know this was supposed to be a date and now I'm all crying and talking about my ex."

"A date? Who said something about this being a date?" He said shocked and blushing.

"Uhmm you did when you messaged me." I also blushed.

"Ohh uhh.. it's okay Sophie. I'm happy you feel safe enough with me to talk about your past."

Aaron knew he wanted this to be a date, but he didn't want to push Sophie into things so he basicly ignored the fact that she knew he said it.

Sophie was okay with it, because she didn't want for things to go too fast.

"So Aaron, enough about me. Tell me about you."

"Well I'm on Broadway in a show called Moulin Rouge and I have a dog named Miles." He started.

"I know that already Tveit, tell me something else."

Aaron started laughing about how insisted Sophie was.

"I grew up in Middletown a small place an hour away from the city. I lived with my mom, dad and my brother John. I love them very much. And as it is for studying. I went to Ithaca, but didn't finish school because I got cast in the national tour of Rent. And from that moment on my life was in the theatre. I also did a few movies and television series."

The only thing I could do while listening to him was admiring how passionate he was. And how he looked even more handsome talking about his life.

Minutes passed by while talking to each other.

"Do you want to get another coffee? Or we could go somewhere else if you want to." Aaron suggested.

"Don't you have anything else to do today? You have a show tonight." I said.

"I have time, I have to be at the theatre 1,5 hour or so before the show."

"And you are not getting bored of me yet?" I asked.

"I will never get bored of you!" Aaron said, cheeks turning red.

"Well then maybe we can get another coffee and just take a walk through the city?"

"Perfect! Do you want the same thing as before?"

"I want an iced brown sugar shaken espresso if that's not too much to ask. I only drink the Macchiatto in the morning. Later in the day I like this one." I said nervous.

"No problem Sophie, I will get it for you."

Aaron walked away to order our to go coffee and I walked outside, waiting for him there.

I decided to text Melissa, because I hadn't spoken to her in a while.

Sophie:

Hey Lis, how are you? I miss you!

Melissa:

Soph! I miss you too. What are you doing right now? Have you seen Aaron already?

Sophie:

We actually got coffee this morning and now we are going to walk around town. Just hang out for a bit. I like it when I'm around him Lis!

Melissa:

Omg!! That's great! Enjoy the rest of your day and fill me in later. I want to hear everything!

I smiled at Melissa's message. And just at that moment Aaron walked outside with our coffee's.

"What are you all smiling about?" He asked with a smirk.

"Oh nothing, just realising it's a good day today." I said.

"I agree, this is one of the best mornings I've had in a long time." He said.

He handed me my coffee and we just walked through the city. The weather was just beautiful. It was warm, but not too hot.

We walked to Times Square. There was a big billboard with him and Ashley Loren. I loved Times Square and the billboard. Aaron noticed.

"Shall I take a picture of you? Here on Times Square with all the billboards. You can post it on your Instagram." He said.

I handed him my phone. He took it and it looked like he struggled with it.

"Is everything ok? Can you handle my phone?" I asked laughing. He blushed and then asked me to take a pose.

He took my pictures. Not just one but a few.

"So now you have a lot to choose from." He said.

I wanted to take my phone out of his hands, but he wouldn't give it back to me.

"Can I get my phone back mr. Tveit?" I asked teasing.

"You can have it back, but first you have to take a picture with me." He teased back.

I did as he said. I stood next to him. He wrapped an arm around my waist and we took a few pictures together.

When we both wanted to let go, we almost kissed. We were so close together during that picture.

We were both looking a bit awkward after it.

"Uhm just make sure you send me those ok?" He aksed breaking the awkward moment.

"I will, but I don't know if Instagram is the right place to send them."

"You don't have to send them on Instagram. You can send them another way, just look through your phone when you're home." He said all mysterious.

I looked at him for answers, but he didn't give them to me.

"Do you want to walk past the theatre?" He asked.

"Yeah sure, that sounds nice!"

As we were already on Times Square, the theatre was not that far away. When we arrived Aaron stood under the pillar with his picture on it.

"Sophie, can you take a picture of me and my twin brother?" He asked jokingly.

I laughed and took my phone out. I snapped a few pictures of him being silly with the pillar.

"I will also send those to you." I said.

He laughed and looked at me.

"Hey Sophie, will you do me a pleasure and see the show tonight?"

"Well Aaron, I would love to, but since you're in the show a ticket would cost me a fortune and I don't have that kind of money right now." I said a little embarresed.

"No no no, you don't have to pay for it! You'll get the ticket from me silly."

"Aaron I'm not a charity case. You already paid for my coffee twice and now this."

"Soph I'll get you in the audience tonight, please say yes. I really want you there!"

He called me by my nickname how could I refuse now?

"Ok Aaron, I will be there. Just tell me when and where I have to be."

"Can you meet me here at 5?" He asked.

"5? But the show starts at 7 and you don't have to be here at least 1,5 hour before the show."

"I know, but I have a surprise for you. Please meet me at 5 here in front of stagedoor?"

i'm hoping to get a first chapter ready to publish soon, but i've been workshopping a dimya equestrian/show jumping au for a while?? back when i used to horseback ride i didn't do show jumping but it's so fun to watch and i think it would make for a fun au. dmitry can't ride bc of a vague injury, so he and vlad recruit the new stablehand anya to compete in the FEI tournament, which would take place in paris this year, bc duh. her horse is pooka. they have no money and she does Not get along with dmitry. it would be a fun ride (no pun intended) :) and of course she is just using this as the means to get to paris so she can find her family, dmitry and vlad want the winning purse, etc. the fact that anastasia was a record-breaking teen show jumper ten years ago and vanished mysteriously and anya has a very similar riding style and skillset is just a coincidence. or is it 👀

That did it— that made her laugh. It was just a short huff of air through her nose, but still, that didn’t happen very often anymore.

sigh. i really want a dimya dirty dancing au, so so so so bad, but it has to be the exact one that exists in my head. i just don't want to do the work on that one asdhlkfj. but it would be so good!!! anya and her family visiting the country club, she is already bored, all the girls are expected to marry some guy who is going to be a doctor or lawyer, and then she meets the hot and broody misunderstood™ dance instructor dmitry, and she is determined to help him and the other workers by filling in for marfa. thus ensues a summer romance. featuring dmitry in that black tank top. and god, gleb is the awkward and uncomfy nephew/whatever set to inherit the country club, who flings his authority around whenever he wants and plays Nice Guy. it would be perfect. but i don't want to write it, i just want it to exist already for me to read lol.

WIP ask game! 💕

(!! i love you so much!! 💖) This is my Christmas fic! Once I started plotting out my (fake) boyfriend and got the fake dating juices flowing they simply would not stop 😅 So this one is fake dating too. I've said it before but I love garbage, and therefore will unironically enjoy hallmark-esque christmas movies

I technically started it two years ago, during the 2023 holidays but I didn't finish enough of it to post any part of it even near the holidays, so when the season rolled around this last time, I thought I may be able to get at least the first chapter done to be released on or around Christmas but. We can see how well that worked out lol But I do add to it fairly consistently, so maybe someday :)

This is another instance of them being in their 20s, and they're roommates (omg they were roommates....). It's like pretty much every other AU i've mentioned so far, where they've been friends for years. Henry's in the same situation that most people, especially young adults, are in, where he's stuck in a crappy, minimum wage job with a piece of junk car that seems to break down at least once a month, and he's always one financial emergency away from having to move back in with his parents.

I'm gonna try not to give away the whole plot like I have been alskdjf so there's a bit more too it, but essentially, Zack finds out that Henry's been lying to his parents about seeing someone, and Zack's family all have plans of their own for the holiday, so when Siren (I know they eventually revealed Henry's mom is named Kris but that was a stupidass decision so I'll never accept it. She's Siren to me, end of story) anyway, when Siren tells Henry to invite his partner to the cabin she and Jake are renting for the week, Zack's just like, "hey, I'll go with you and pretend to be your boyfriend for a bit." Like, in his mind, it's a free week-long vacation with home-cooked meals that Henry swears will not be touched by Piper, the notoriously bad cook alskdjf He already loves Henry, so he definitely feels he's getting the better end of the deal considering all he has to do is pretend to be in love with Henry for a few days. Easy peasy.

And when I tell you I'm hitting literally every trope/cliche I possibly can. Like mistletoe, to give just one example 👀

Bestie, I’m so sorry I’ve been MIA. I’ve been ridiculously busy. This whole “part-time” job I got at the new lab is NOT part time. My supervisor it just means she has to give me at least part time hours. So I drive 45 minutes to work 10.5 hours, 45 minutes back to my town, then even further to my old lab and work there. By the time I get back to town from my new lab, I’ve already been awake for 12-12.5 hours, so I don’t work too long at my other lab on those days, which means I have to get those hours on other days. I haven’t had a day off in a month😭 oh and school lol

Then my flu shot fucked me up, so I felt like shit at work, then the whole Liam thing… that hit me so hard. I knew the day would come eventually when one of the boys d*ed, but I never thought it would be this soon and affect me this much. And a few weeks ago my autoimmune disease started flaring since I had to stop my medication when I lost insurance, which is making my hair fall out and my skin basically fall off, and of course just make me feel like shit in general. So love that for me 😂 I’m so exhausted in every way and I’m losing my damn mind and crying so much every day and sorry to dump all that😔

Heavy on the road rage!!! I’m so bad idk how people don’t lose their shit as much as I do😭 We get the slow ass drivers and people who chill in the passing lane when they’re not passing anyone. Or when people can’t pick what speed they want to go??? Like how do you expect us to not get mad when you’re literally just a horrible driver in general😂 I live in southern Oregon, and so many people from California move to this valley specifically for some reason, and a few years ago, people from Montana and Washington started moving here too, and now Idaho. Like guys, we are literally surrounded by wildfires every summer. Employers are required to hand out masks because the smoke gets so thick, and you can only see maybe half a mile away on a GOOD day! Gtf away none of us want you here😂 I went to another state for work like 6-7 years ago for a few months in the summer, and when people found out I’m from Oregon, they’d go “didn’t you guys have a really bad wildfire awhile ago?” ??? You mean right now? Last year? Literally any fire every year I’ve been alive? And for decades before that? I know they’re talking about the biscuit fire, but no joke, EVERY year, we have at least one fire that passes 100,000 acres. Sitting around and saying “Oh the fire jumped the freeway already” like it’s nothing because it’s so normal for us😂 It’s our little way of knowing summer has officially started. The amount of people I know personally that have to evacuate each summer is ridiculous. When we say we have bad fires *every* summer, we’re not exaggerating 💀 and then the transplants complain about sooooo much like stfu because you chose this😂 go back please

Also, my insurance is supposed to start November 1st! I’ll see my psychiatrist on the 14th.

Anyways, that was probably far too much, but I hope you’re doing well and your classes are going well too! On the academic rivals story when you said there wouldn’t be too much math involved, I was like 😪 lol but I have to finish it because I didn’t realize how close is was to needing to leave my house when I started it😂 and I hope your students are being good!

I'm glad you have a place to vent and I think I would be in far worse shape than you and the fact you're still standing is admirable. I sincerely hope you can take time for yourself soon.

THAT'S CRAZY about the wildfires. I didn't know that! I don't expect you to remember or read everything I post, but I've mentioned before I don't watch the news because I find it mentally horrible (but also i apologize if I've already told you this specifically) but I always remember seeing the stories about the wildfires. That's so fascinating. I'd be so scared and you're so casual about it. Idk if we have anything out here like that. Someone I met from California said the thunderstorms we get are kinda wild. But they're nothing special in my opinion (other than being fun to watch from the window).

okay let's get into my thoughts of each track based on the titles: Track 1 - Fortnight (ft. Post Malone) POST MALONE??? i swear, i'm not joking, i had like a dream or a thought a little while ago that was like "lmao what if taylor collaborated with post malone what would that be like- she would never tho that would be crazy" so ig i manifested it?? ngl i don't listen to post malone and i haven't heard many of his songs. except i think that one song about circles that was on the radio a lot a while ago when i would listen to the radio all the time was his song. it was fine, kind of annoying tho once i heard it too much. i'm really not sure what to expect with the song, but i do like the title. a fortnight is two weeks so i'm curious if time will have a significance in this track, let alone the album. she wore a clock choker last night and kept asking Tree if her watch was set correctly, apparently to midnight, so i have a feeling time may be a theme within the album. idk but fortnight just gives me middle ages castle vibes so i'm curious if this song will have modern vibes, old hollywood vibes, or like ancient vibes when it comes to setting.

Track 2 - The Tortured Poets Department the titular track!! okay i genuinely have no ideas whatsoever for what this song could be about. maybe another anti-hero/yoyok type song? or even like a mastermind/labyrinth type love song? tbh idk- im really curious to hear other theories or opinions on this track so pls share !!

Track 3 - My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys 101% about a bf who once treasured and loved their relationship starts letting it die (cough joe cough). that phrase is so powerful because it provides the perfect imagery to show "yeah he loved me a lot, but he also hurt me" whether or not he knew it, he did it. this title definitely gives me like poetry title vibes so i'm curious what not only the lyrics will be but what the actual musical element will sound like.

Track 4 - Down Bad OH BOY A DELUSIONAL TRACK YES PLEASE. i can already tell that a running theme within this album is like wanting someone you can't have or loving someone too much that it's an issue. oh boy am i ready for the down bad delusional song this track will give us. i'm really hoping it'll be more of a happy delusional than a sad unrequited love delusion because i could see it going in that direction and as clever as that is i would like to be supported in my delusions. i'm really excited for this song.

Track 5 - So Long, London I HAVE BEEN WAITING TO TALK ABOUT THIS ONE OMG. THIS IS THE WHOLE REASON IM MAKING THIS POST. OH BOY. OKAY SO. the parallel to London Boy is CLEAR. bye bye joe. FAREWELL. we are officially done and over. there is no way in which i can look at this track title and not think "this is about joe" because it just so clearly is and i am HERE for it. i am curious if it's going to be a bad bitch call-out track or a sad mourning track...we'll just have to wait and see ig! (just realized it's a track 5 so it could be more emotional, but maybe she'll go a different route this time? i don't know but it'll be great fs)

Track 6 - But Daddy I Love Him OH MY GOD. as a lesbian it's frustrating that i'm sure many of these songs will be heavy on the "he's a boy" so it'll be harder for me to sing along earnestly, BUT that being said...i CANNOT WAIT for this track. i honestly don't know what the vibe will be for it but i'm sure it's phenomenal and i can't wait to hear it.

Track 7 - Fresh Out the Slammer is this a phrase? am i out of the loop? hold on lemme look it up..okay all i've learned is that there are several other songs with this same name. truly have no clue what this could be.

Track 8 - Florida!!! (ft. Florence + The Machine) i. i don't even know what to expect. i think i might just expect nothing because that way i'll definitely be surprised and delighted.

Chapter Six: Two little birds

After some time pretending, sleep finally made its way into you. Not soon enough to sake Tim Drake from being blocked, though. It was better this way, you really needed to focus on yourself and your future. His was already sorted, you were the only one with something to lose with this agreement. 

Something in the wind that got inside your room made you wake up distressed. His scent. His fucking scent came to bother you even when you were asleep. Utterly annoyed, you got up and walked straight to your window, closing it violently. When you were walking back to your bed, a laugh echoed inside your room.

— Once again you’ve trapped the bird inside a cage — He said and you saw him lean against your desk. Oh shit. 

— You know… when Edward sneaked into Bella’s room to watch her sleep in Twilight, it wasn’t romantic. It was creepy — You said, trying to appear calm. You sat on your bed — Are you a creep, Red Robin?

— Maybe more than I should — He admitted. He turned to the glass with the cut stems Tim sent you and laughed in low tone — It seems you’re not in a position to judge me, actually. It’s not the most normal thing to do this to flowers.

— Well, the flowers are mine anyway, I can do with them whatever pleases me — You answered, crossing your arms over your chest — You, on the other hand, broke into a girl’s room in the middle of the night and haven’t even bothered to give her an explanation yet. 

— I was nearby and wanted to check on you — He said, coming closer to you. 

— Liar — You said with a smile — If you'd done it a year ago I would have believed you, but it’s been a long time. I was sure you had forgotten me. 

— Never — He said and it made your heart skip a beat — I know Nightwing and Batman give us bad reputation, but not all vigilantes are mansluts. I don’t go out kissing random people during patrol. And I remember very well the people I've kissed.

— Oh, so you regularly check on everyone you’ve kissed?

— You’re upset. I got it — He said, sitting beside you. Damn — I guess it’s good that the target of your anger were the flowers, then. I’d hate to arrest you.

— What do you really want here? Any bullet holes you need me to suture?

He sighed.

— It has been a rough night. I was around and wanted to see if you were awake. I enjoyed talking to you back then — He said and his legs accidentally touched yours. You sighed as well.

— What do you want to talk about?

— Anything — He said, turning his head to look at you. You wanted to look at him so badly — Why are you upset?

— There’s this boy in my class…

— The one that looks at you like you’re an exótic bird? — He asked and your eyes widened with surprise.

— Wow.

— I told you, I remember.

— Yes, him — You continued — We started to get along in a certain way…

— What do you mean?

— Hm… we decided that in order to end the tension between us, we should hook up — You said after a sigh of embarrassment — And I’ve spent the afternoon getting ready, putting on the effort it takes to look effortless. And then, he didn’t show up, just sent me a bouquet of hyacinths. 

You let your back lean against your sheets, laying on the bed, after laughing. 

— Ridiculous, I know.

— It’s not — He said — You really have to stop invalidating your feelings. 

— I’m talking about him — You corrected and he laughed. His laughter and his smile were still your favourite things to hear and to see. 

— Yeah, he is ridiculous — He said, laying beside you.

— And still, I’ve mutilated innocent hyacinths because of him — You said — He awakens the worst in me.

— I’m sorry for the poor flowers — He laughed — But it’s okay. Although it really is a blow to my ego.

— What do you mean?

— Well, I've got to admit, I don’t know if I’m jealous because no one ever cared enough because of my disappearance to mutilate flowers — He started and you could not hold a small laugher — Or if it is because he kissed you — He said and you felt your cheeks get warmer. 

— How do you know he kissed me? — You asked, sitting to try to hide your blushing.

— You wouldn’t be so upset if he didn’t — He answered, sitting. 

You sighed.

— You wouldn’t do this to me — You said, resting your head on his shoulder. He leaned his head on yours — You’re a good man.

— Maybe I am, but I don't think I would be better than him in this context — He said — None of my relationships last, not even with other vigilantes. And I can be called by Batman at any time.

— So you stopped trying?

— No.

— Seems masochist to me.

— I guess we all are a bit masochist when it comes to love. Humans want things to work right. — He said, intertwining his fingers with yours. — Maybe in other conditions, we could’ve dated. It would have been nice.

— Did you know that wild robins don’t maintain the same partner for long? It’s because they’re migratory birds. They exchange partners almost every mating season.  — You said and he laughed.

— How do you know that?

— One of my little cousins love birds — You said, caressing his glove-covered hand with your thumb — I babysat him once and he told me that even though it was weird to him that robins exchange partners a lot it made sense because they don’t have clocks, calendars or jobs, so each spring must feel like a lifetime. I wish we were robins, even if we could spend only one spring together.

— Well, time showed already that I would come back to you eventually, so I don't think it would be only one spring — He said smiling against your hair — I hope you can work things right with this boy, I really do.

— They won’t. I don’t plan on talking to him anytime soon — You said, closing your eyes, feeling sleepy

— Don’t be bitter. What if he got trapped in an emergency? — He said — I’m sure he wouldn’t deliberately leave you waiting. Not when you look like this.

— And what about my amazing personality?

— I don't know what he thinks of your personality — He said, smiling — But I can talk about what I know he can’t deny. You’re smoking hot. One of the prettiest girls i’ve ever seen. You’ve got it all: amazing eyes, a smile that could lighten the whole room and a body to die for. If he left you waiting on purpose, he is an idiot. I wouldn’t leave you waiting, not on purpose.

— If i didn’t know better — You started, smiling as you brought back the phrase you said to him months ago, looking up to him — I’d think you’re hitting on me.

— Gotta shoot my best shot — He said, smiling as your noses got close.

As your lips were about to touch, you heard Nightwing’s voice coming from his communicator.

“Red Robin, where are you?”

— I went for a walk, Wing.

“I think I might need your help, if you finished your walk.” Red Robin looked at your lips almost like he needed to kiss them as much as a fish needs water “Forget the ‘i think’ part. We need your help. Immediately”.

— Send your location. I’m on my way — He said after biting his lower lip in frustration. — See? I told you sometimes I would leave you waiting.

— Duty calls — You said, opening your window for him. He sat on the sill to make it easier to get out and you held his cape — Wait.

He turned to your direction and you pulled him by the neckline of his armour, leaving a quick peck on his lips.

— Go and save the dawn for me.

He gave you the prettiest smile you ever saw and quickly kissed you again, then Nightwing’s voice called again and he left. You leaned on the still for a while, watching him leave, and then you returned to bed.
