some stories are written precisely to elicit strong emotions from the reader INCLUDING negative ones. some stories and characters are meant to be upsetting, they are meant to challenge you and make you uncomfortable!! when a story makes you feel Big Feelings sometimes you are meant to sit in those feelings and ask yourself why! fiction is a great space to explore these emotions in a safe environment. you, as the reader, are meant to think critically about the art you are enjoying and that includes asking yourself questions like why has the author presented their art in this way and what are they trying to tell me. and then you get to have fun picking it apart and figuring it out and deciding what, exactly, the art means to you.

i think mostly we as a culture need to stop pretending media is for us and instead recognize that it's for the people making it. "the show didn't do the thing I wanted it to" is so not the point. did it do what the people making it wanted it to do? did it tell the story they were trying to tell? than it was successful. if that doesn't align with what you wanted to happen, don't get up in arms about it. don't badmouth the creators and throw a tantrum. that's what fan works are for. the text is the text, and it told the story it was telling. you wouldn't be like "ugh shakespeare is insane for act v btw like there was no reason for juliet to kill herself she should've just waited and then her and romeo could have been together wtf this ruined the whole play" like no!!! the themes were there the set-up was there the foreshadowing was there shakespeare did what he intended to. just because it wasn't a happy ending and just because you thought it should've went differently doesn't mean it was bad. read a fic where juliet lives and move on.
#this is about ghosts but honestly fandom in general#stop pretending the creators of things owe you certain story lines. they're making it not you#i explained it like this to my sister:#imagine you're reading a book and there are sort of hints and scenes that you take to interpret a character as gay#you cite quotes and talk about the themes and the impact of your interpretation#and then at the end of the book the character comes out as asexual.#and then a lot of those scenes and quotes that you were using as evidence for your interpretation-#now they could be construed to have been pointing towards them being ace all along#just because it wasnt the end you fabricated in your head based on your understanding of the hints#doesn't mean it wasnt always the writers plan from the beginning.#AND it doesnt mean you can't keep imagining a world where they're gay instead#it just means that the writer was leaving those clues to point you towards the ending#and you interpreted the clues differently#bbc ghosts#ghosts spoilers#bc like. if last resort was the ending#you could 'read' the whole series with the understanding that they weren't going to leave the house#and the foreshadowing would add up#but now with the special. you can go back and 'read' the series with the understanding that they leave#and it still all adds up. the foreshadowing was there it just meant something different than you thought.#stories have beginnings middles and ends#you predetermined the ending while still in the middle and got mad when you weren't right.#does that make sense?

Whether intentional or not, Otz (or his editor, rather) censoring Hux's mori with the gootoob demonetization symbol in his latest video is brilliant...Hux will never be safe for capitalism.
There is such irony in a huge corporation like gootoob penalizing people for showing the uncensored mori of the anti-capitalist killer...the killer who is the product of a massive corporation's greed.
Like, Hux began killing as a result of the fear he felt while trapped in a hostile, divisive, and isolating society that was trying to colonise other planets in the name of super corporation Huxley Industries. This is a society that would have seen him terminated for his sentience, that carelessly discarded anything deemed "useless" to its aims, which is in part used as a metaphor for being a minority and opposing the state through your existence alone. But Hux is also the embodiment of consequence, the inevitable reaper that comes to collect those who push past the boundaries of their own humanity for the sake of profit. What makes End Transmission so clever, though, is that Hux's victims were mostly pawns of Huxley Industries themselves, with no knowledge of the ugly truth at the heart of their world. We see that through Gabriel's discovery that he is a clone and that his entire childhood was a series of false memories fabricated by Huxley Industries' scientists in a lab. To me, this is a fantastic metaphor for the way that people in our own society are sold their beliefs, values, and identity from a very, very young age, often without us even realizing it until it's too late, if ever at all.
The tragedy of End Transmission isn't necessarily what happened to Hux, nor what happened to Gabriel, individually. Which, to me in itself is ingenious, because the problems we face today, or even on gootoob to bring it back to my original point, are not individual issues. We are all pawns of these corporations, and victims of their destructive actions. And so the real tragedy of End Transmission is that the corporation responsible for the traumas that Hux and Gabriel endure, and ultimately for the terrible society in which they exist, was never impacted by the incident on Dvarka. In fact, after Hux and Gabriel's disappearance, it's rather likely Huxley Industries simply covered up what happened on Dvarka, so that they could never be questioned. Perhaps another Gabriel clone replaced the one they lost. More A7 units replaced those lost on Dvarka. And the machine's gears just kept turning. Just like it does in our own world.

Controversial (ig), but I still think it's okay to bash people for getting upset they can't be publicly inappropriate with the characters for a kids' show or write weird shit. Do you want to end up like that Sofia the first meme? Idc if the characters in the show are adults, the internet is already hostile to young fans of anything, and even in places that are supposed to be friendly with their demographic interest, they have to deal with seeing anything weird. I am just too traumatized from the psychological damage the mlp fandom did? Yes; but it's a good lesson to know, so anyone else who was like me doesn't have to be dismissed at for feeling uncomfortable. Heck, still today, I'm uncomfortable with that stuff in fandoms from kids' shows.
(Of course, with other media or shows that are clearly for older audiences, I don't care. Do what you want on that front it's like pretty fine i won't judge.)
But yeah, I've just been feeling like that because of a weirdo in my ask box. And I'm like, oh yeah, I keep forgetting freaks exist.

I’m enamored by Akira and Maya’s existence as top stars. The moniker of ‘top star’ looms over the whole cast, but they are truly paragons of the ideal (and maybe Judy, but that should be saved for El Dorado).
For both of them their existence as top stars defines them, and serves as their greatest strength and weakness. It’s in that dissonance that I think revstar is just so incredible.
It is simultaneously rejecting the harmful ideas of the auditions and embracing the love for theatre a top star contains.
Maya and Akira have been through a lot. They are acutely aware of the demands being a top star brings, but they still choose to stand there and in doing so they draw strength from it.
While the two of them are *far* from being flawless characters (which revstar makes abundantly clear) they have a certain impact to them from being the representatives of such a system. Maya being the one to crush Karen in the Revue of Pride, or Maya being the first one to start performing Revue No Title is significant.
Standing at the top has cost her greatly, it’s meant losing friends, endless hard rehearsal, and isolation. Yet she continues to strive for it. It’s not just ego (though certainly that plays a role), but a deep pride and passion that Carrie’s her. The pride in contrast to Karen’s arrogance in the Revue of Pride.
But no moment demonstrates this quite as well as Edel Delight and Revue Edel. Akira’s whole mentality to the point that it is her revue introduction is to become a perfect, immortal gem through her performance. To become pure platinum and wholly embody royalty. She is scarred from Fumi’s absence, is selfish, a bit of a stage crazy dolt, and incredibly greedy. Throughout Edel Delight she spends the play shirking her duties, being arrogant and dismissive. But when the time comes she will still fight the rest of the cast if need be and emerge victorious.
She will prove herself to be a true Edel.
I just really love characters that represent and embody a certain ideology, and with how rich revue starlight is in its themes e it’s endlessly fascinating for me to think about.
I think it’s also really interesting to think about the ‘failed top stars’ like Koharu, Stella, or even Fumi. But oh goodness I could keep going for such a long time…
Regardless I really like Akira and Maya as characters, but don’t talk about them enough, so yeah here’s some scrambled thoughts

every time I see the first snow of the season, I pull up frozen pines by lord huron again and weep because. oh boy that's just the ultimate blorbo song for me. and every few years a new layer of blorbo relevance sets in, too. first fandom I hyperfixated on while on tumblr? yeah that's got exactly the right two characters, the missing and the searcher. current main hyperfixation? exactly the same. childhood hyperfixation that I've been going back to and making self-indulgent OCs for lately? oh, you know exactly what the theme song of two of those OCs is going to be.

CTDE!zee has an era where she abandons her entire life and moves to a new town and goes abysmally downhill for a few years until diana turns up and is like HIIII WE'RE ALL VERY WORRIED ABOUT YOU SWEETIE ... and zee gets to be like i left the force years ago diana......im retiredNJHBG
their reunion here is like 4-5 years or so before CTDE proper. if you ever see me draw a zee this crunchy you know that's her temporarily retired era 😭
it leads into the "ladies. what is going on here" wondermagic era but more importantly she IS doing better now
