SMOKY | Purgatory Within
Blind! Prince! Mingi x [unstated skin deformity] fem! Reader
words: almost 2k
warnings: abuse trauma, smut, death
au: crown royal au | moodboard
series masterlist: SMOKY
~
you became more and more concerned for your husband’s behavior as time went on. the young man who had once been so careful and gentle, now stood with a silent rage behind his empty eyes.
however, after you confronted him about his possessive behavior, you watched him break down at your feet.
“p-please... please don’t leave me...” his large frame was once again curled in on himself, shoulders shaking as he kneeled on the floor, hands fisted in your robe. his head was hung low as he begged you at your feet.
“Mingi, what has been going on with you?” you insisted, refusing to touch the man as he tried to bury his face in your lap.
“I can't- I can't let the Duke take you! or your whore of a knight! Please my queen please, take me instead, take everything I have!” the man let out a broken sob as you sighed at his words.
“enough.” you growled, grabbing a hand full of his hair and lifting his head. he yelped in shock, neck exposed to you as his Adams apple bobbed in fear.
“you are to be a king Mingi. you are a grown man, and I am your wife. you are not a little boy to be crying at the feet of his mother.” you pushed the man off your lap and stood. “and you will be a fool of a king if you let such foolish insecurity cloud your judgment!”
Mingi hid his head low, covering his face with his arms.
“I'm sorry! I'm sorry! p-please don't-” his normally deep voice cracked in terror. you stopped, anger at he man before you evaporated.
“Mingi...mingi I'm not going to hit you.” you spoke softly, gently falling to your knees on the floor. his body shook, arms still held to protect his face. “I hope you know, I would never do that.” your voice was sorrowful as you reached out a hand to his head.
he flinched when you touched his hair, but as you began to run your fingers through it, his muscles slowly relaxed. dropping his arms from his face you could finally see the puffiness around his eyes, the cloudiness of the dark pigment stared blankly back at you.
“...do you promise?” he hiccuped, turning his head to try and find the direction of your voice. you cupped the man’s cheeks, pulling his head to face yours. his eyes fluttered shut as he rested his head in your hands.
“oh my darling boy, who did this to you?”
~
Mingi found a small kitten in the garden. a runt, tiny thing. you had thought the bundle of orange fur was some nobles lost purse left out in the rain. he named her Daisy, saying her fur smelled of the flowers when she curled up in his big hands.
You rarely saw the man without her, the small kitten often purching on Mingi's large shoulders.
Your husband still held ribbons of his possessive behavior, however he began to distance himself from you. You rarely saw him now other then in passing on when the pair of you went to sleep at night. He also began neglecting pleasing you, but you assumed he was simply not interested as both of you often went to sleep without any contact.
Now you found yourself facing a different delema. You had always been a woman with a high sex drive, its one of the reasons you had chosen Seonghwa as a concort. However your poor knight had been frightened quite badly by yourself and your husband, and you knew he wouldnt return to you unless you seeked him out.
But you had also made Mingi a promis. One that was getting increasingly hard for you to keep.
"My lady, is everything alright? You seem lost in thought... If there is any responsibilities weighing heavy on you i am more then happy to help however i can!" the young Duke's voice was as sweet as ever.
You sighed, looking over to Yeosang, a man you had been trying not to look at for to long. His hair lay in soft curls around his face, lightened by the many years spent outside in the sunlight. Likewise his skin was warm in hue, tanner then the rest of your court.
You had heard some of the other ladies snickering about him. Yeosang surely didnt live up to some of the standards for desired beauty the royals had. A strange thought flashed in your mind. Is that why Mingi was chosen to be your husband over Yeosang? Mingi's frame was large, an incredibly masculine figure just looking at him, with dark hair and skin untouched by the sun.
Little Yeosang however, had small and dainty hands, with long thin fingers, his features were softer then Mingi's, even his skin looked soft to the touch. And the many years spent as a playmate for his sisters left him with an unthreatening demeanor.
Indeed it wasnt hard for you to imagine him, flowers in his hair, sat on a blanket in the valley, perhaps painting or writing for his own amusement. You shoved away such thoughts as you saw a line of concern crease in his brow.
"My lady..."
"I am sorry Yeosang. Truthfully ive been feeling a bit... Forgotten about in these last weeks. And its left me feeling distracted." you answered him.
"Forgotten... Ah, by your husband?" perceptive as always. You sighed, gase dropping to your tea once more, before nodding.
"Have you tried speaking to him? He has a shy nature, im sure-"
"Hes trying to help." you held up a hand to stop him. "He did not trust me, and hes trying to offer me space to show he does." you clarified.
"... I see." Yeosang chewed on his lip in thought. His lips were a pretty blush color, not as round as Mingi's but plump, they looked soft... Very soft.
You cursed yourself in your own head. His fingers, his lips, youd be lying to deny they hadnt crossed your mind when you bathed. Your hands wandering your own body, head leaned back and eyes closed. Imagining it was Yeosang's long fingers in place of your own as you gasped in pleasure.
You shooed away the maid who came to offer you more tea, informing her it wouldnt be needed. Lust was a vice that would only cause you harm as Mingi's wife. And yet, something stirred in your gut.
"Yeosang, will you come walk with me?" the Duke nodded quickly, standing to his feet to follow you deeping into the gardens.
~
Your husband would be furious. And yet, such a worry seemed to melt away as you let yourself become lost in his touch.
"My lady please, you must be quiet. Or else we shall scandalize some poor stable boy." Yeosang's voice purred in your ear, pressing soft kisses to your neck after speaking.
You bite your tongue as Yeosang let another finger slip inside you. You were right, his fingers were deliciously long, able to reach places within you your own faltered. His hand snaked up your skirts and inside your undergarments, the heel of his hand pressed against your clit, his wrist not forgetting such an important part as he rubbed it gently.
You could almost see stars as he began sucking on your neck, a third finger sliding within you.
"... I promised you, anything you ever needed, i will provide. If its council, wisdom, or even such sinful favors... I am at your service. Always." Yeosang's voice was honey on your skin. You pulled one of your hands up from where they were fisted in his jacket, tugging gently on his hair. He pulled away from your neck, eyes now staring into your own. A look of pride took his features, seeing the state of pleasure you were in at his hands.
Tugging his hair again, you let a small whine fall from your lips. He chuckled, increasing the pace of his hand, and before a moan could fall from your lips, he covered them with his own.
~
That night, cheeks finally faded with the glow of what yourself and the Duke had snuck away to do, you crossed paths with a guard.
“your highness! just who I was looking for~” dread pooled in your gut as you saw Hongjoong, cheerful grin on display, with a small kitten in his arms. Daisy shook like a leaf, eyes slit to spite the darkness of the hallway.
you opened your arms and Hongjoong placed the small cat in your hands. Daisy immediately pressed herself as far from Hongjoong as she could, a small hiss let out in his direction.
“how rude. if it wasn't for me she would have been stuck at the top of a lamp. ungrateful feline.” he huffed. you began to gently stroke the cat’s fur, in hopes of calming her down.
“an animal as small as this knows when it is in the jaws of a predator.” you stated. Hongjoong smiled, and your stomach dropped. humans are so stupid. Hongjoong is known as a cheerful and smiley person, but yet the cloud that follows him hides the nature of his grin. a wolf does not offer you a smile, he bares his teeth as a warning.
“and yet your little prince is so blissfully unaware of what he is toying with~” Hongjoong giggled. you simply blinked back at the creature before you. “you know, your fondness for that Duke will upset him. but if you wanted a straightforward solution-”
“I am not a fool like the other idiot humans that reside here.” you growled.
“oh no, absolutely not. but, witch, neither am i.” you narrow your eyes at him.
“I could have you hung for accusing the future queen of witchcraft.” you threatened. Hongjoong lay his head back and let out a hearty laugh.
“that would be a sight! do you really want to see what happened if you try and kill me?” Hongjoong stops himself before he begins laughing again. “actually I believe I know that answer. regardless, my offer still stands. just as our deal already does.”
“deal?” you feel panic rise in your throat.
“why yes, the silent one of course.” Hongjoong grins that same one that appears in your nightmares. the one that pulls his cheeks up and shows just a few to many teeth.
“you don't tell them what I am, and in exchange, I do the same.”
~
you awoke the next morning, without Mingi. his side of the bed was cold, and even Daisy had gone missing. you thought little of it as you rose to begin your day, however, you were not greeted by one of your handmaidens, but rather, a guard.
“your majesty, I come bearing news.” he swallowed nervously.
“oh? at this hour?” you inquired. you were then greeted by a sorrowful meow, Daisy crawling between the guards legs and hiding under your nightgown.
“your husband, Prince Mingi, was found dead in a poll of his own blood last night.”

Recovering pt 1

Hayun’s masterlist
“During her time in the hospital, it was up to the 95+96 line to take care of Hayun”
a/n: Wonwoo’s scenario is inpired by the lyric prank request. Feel free to let me know your thoughts as well as send me some requests💙. Ask box is also open to random chats.
Scoups
He had felt guilty leaving Hayun on her own that morning, so as soon as the schedule was over, Seungcheol rushed to the hospital to make her company while the boys went home to showers and then pay her a visit.
Opening the room’s door, he was met with the sight of Hayun’s head staring blankly at him while the rest of her body was buried in while fluffy pillows in a way he doubted she could move without letting at least one of them drop off the bed. Stifling his laugh, the leader walked into the room amused.
“Did hurricane Jackson come by?” He asked clearly knowing the answer as she rolled her eyes.
“What do you think? I didn’t even know you could get this many pillows in a hospital” The girl sighed as he started to take them one by one and set them on the couch, only leaving the ones stabilizing her back since he didn’t know how much movement she could take “You smell like the bathroom in music core”
“I rushed here so you could have some company and that’s what I get?” Scoups said offended and she smiled mischievously.
“My bad. Here let me tell you a secret” Hayun waved him closer and when his ear was by her mouth she screamed “I’M LOSING MY MIND IN THIS ROOM”
Flinching backward, Cheol placed a hand on his heart while waiting for a second for it to calm down. The girl stared at him with wide eyes while pointing out how everything was stark white.
“AND, if that isn’t enough” She pointed out making him widen his eyes even more “I don’t have you guys around”
“Aww, cute” He cooed pulling a chair closer so he could sit by her side “But wasn’t your boyfriend just here?”
“Yeah but he’s not you guys” She hummed holding his hand and squeezing it for a few seconds before throwing it away “At least he’s not a traitor”
“A traitor?” Cheol smiled amused and she crossed her arms nodding.
“I mean. How dare you guys having all that fun without me”
Jeonghan
“That one looks like a thumb” Hayun leaned into Jeonghan’s side and pointed at a baby through the nursery window. As she had been getting better, the nurses would let her take little strolls around the hospital as a way of getting her body going again.
“Don’t judge him, he might become cute someday and end up dating your child” Jeonghan pointed out while side hugging the girl to help her support herself “You don’t want to bully your future son in law, do you?”
“It’s weird thinking that they’ll become a grown person isn’t it” She ignored him cooing at the babies in their beds “They’re so little and squishable right now. Look at that one! It has a little dimple!”
Laughing at her excitement, Jeonghan failed to notice an old lady approaching them with a fond smile, and he almost jumped when she started speaking on his side.
“It’s your firstborn, right? I remember how excited I was when my daughter was born, nothing compares to it” The lady smiled at their mildly confused faces and then back at the babies “So, which one is yours?”
As Hayun went to tell her this was a misunderstanding, Jeonghan calmly pointed at a baby in the corner and, with the softest smile, he turned to her as he spoke.
“That one is our little Channie. Cute isn’t he?” He winked at his group member as she bit her bottom lip to stop herself from laughing.
“Oh yes. That one is my grandson. Time sure flies by fast” The lady smiled at them and much to Hayun’s entertainment pointed to the one she had compared to a thumb.
“Ah he’s adorable” Hayun giggled and forcefully pulled at Jeonghan’s sweatshirt to indicate they should leave soon before the woman could get a good look at them and start some weird rumor.
“We should be going back so my love can go rest” He started speaking while pulling her IV holder a little closer to indicate their departure.
“Yeah, I’m feeling quite tired, we should really be going” Hayun gave her a polite smile and after giving each other the best of luck they parted ways, Jeonghan turning to her as soon as they made it to the elevator.
“We’re horrible people”
(pretty boy draco malfoy wannabe)
Joshua
“You just hoop the thread through the- Hey, don’t give up now” Joshua sighed as Hayun dropped her hands and placed the little beads back on the container.
“Shua, I love and cherish each and every bracelet you give me so much. And do you know why?” She asked and he shook his head “Because I know that I don’t have the patience to do them just like you”
Dropping his head on the hospital bed, Joshua tried his best not to laugh in desperation as he gathered the courage to admit the only thing he had brought for her to do was a failure.
“Okay, I’m sorry” He straightened up his posture and collected one by one the little beads and things. “The boys just keep breaking the ones I’ve given them and I don’t have the guts to say no to making more. Just thought you could help me get these done, my bad”
“Oh, I can,” Hayun said, much more excited, yet he shook his head grateful.
“You don’t like it, I get it. Don’t worry about it” Shua gave her a very sad wink, putting the things away and crossing his legs as he sat back. “So, how have you been doing? At least we can talk about your news and catch up”
“No, you don’t get it. There is no news. I’m stuck here and nothing happens, so if I can help you by making bracelets, PLEASE teach me how to make bracelets” Hayun pleaded, shaking him by his arm and Joshua laughed.
“Just don’t go complaining that I forced you” Handing her the materials again, they went back to silently making the crafts while Hayun shared some of the hospital gossip she had heard.
“Have you tried putting one of each color to see how it turns out?” She asked, pushing her glasses that were sliding on the bridge of her nose without taking her eyes off her work.
“Yes. It all looks kind of yellow though, I don’t know how it happens” Joshua shrugged, taking a quick glance at the one she was making, only to notice she wasn’t following the pattern he had told her to. “Wait, that’s not how it’s supposed to go”
“I think it looks more fun this way” Hayun smiled stretching the line towards him, seemingly proud of the colorful mess she had done.
Shua only smiled and nodded, not having the heart to tell her that one was supposed to replace Woozi’s black and blue bracelet.
Jun
Hayun had been watching the door with hopeful eyes for the last three minutes when Jun finally entered her room. Closing the door almost instantly, the boy leaned against it and placed his hand inside his hoodie pocket.
“Please tell me you got it” Hayun beamed, assuming the answer was a yes, but her face dropped as soon as he took out three Jello cups. “You know, when I told you to sneak in some food, I meant like a burger or something”
“How was I supposed to sneak in a burger? Do you know how hard it was for me to get these?” He sighed sitting next to her on the hospital bed and taking out two spoons from his pocket “I had to sweet talk my way through three different nurses to make it into their stash. One of them even gave me her number”
“My boy” Hayun gave him a high five and took one of the cups “You got me a lime one? Thanks!. The girls said they were out of it this morning”
“Oh yeah. One of them told me they’re usually out of it pretty quickly so they try not to give many out” He said calmly making her complain about the unfairness.
“If a burger was too difficult, some fries would have done the job” The girl returned to the topic rolling her eyes while opening one of the Jellos and taking a spoon from him.
“The nurses said you should be careful with what you eat for a while, that must mean no greasy food” Jun grabbed a bite with his spoon and laughed at her annoyed face.
“I’m already in the hospital if anything goes wrong” The girl rebutted, making him laugh and push her in annoyance, forgetting for an instant she still had some stitches in her belly.
“Crap, I’m sorry,” Jun said when she let out a little groan, opting to sit on the chair instead of crushing her side on the bed.
“Don’t apologize. You can be a little rougher next time” Hayun smirked as he threw his head back in annoyance and took out another Jello from his pocket, throwing it at her head but purposely missing “Hey, sick person here. Treat me a little nicer for once”
“I’m getting mixed signals right now. Which one is it, rough or gentle? Because I can do both” Jun snickered back making her howl with laughter.
Hoshi
“Hey, is this supposed to be happening?” Hoshi screamed over the nurses as they helped Hayun throw up in a bucket from the hospital bed.
The boy and a manager had just arrived to help her get her stuff ready to go home when a bunch of them went running into her room making him alert.
“Sir, it’s not very common but it can happen. We'll do some scans to see if there’s anything going on but she hasn’t shown any other symptoms so it might be a passing thing” One of them told him while helping her up. Turning to her, he held her shoulder and placed her against the headboard “You need to be careful with your stitches”
“So what? I’m supposed to drown in my vomit” Hayun complained and one of them held the bucket a little closer to her face making her disgusted “Nevermind, I think I’m done”
“I’ll go check with the doctor,” The manager told Hoshi as he nodded and walked closer to the girl.
“You haven’t been feeling anything else right?” Soonyoung asked, but before she could say anything the same nurse spoke up.
“She hasn’t had any fever and everything else seems to be normal. You’ll probably need to stay here one more day so we can see if anything happens though”
Giving him a side-eye, Hayun pouted as they excused themselves from the room and Hoshi sat on the bed next to her so she could lean her head on his shoulder.
“I just want to go home” She mumbled letting frustration take over for the first time. “I’m stuck in this damn room while the entire world passes by. I missed an entire comeback at this point, people might start calling me old for it”
“At least you did one stage” Hoshi chuckled making her roll her eyes “Just think that there will be many more to come. Think of this as a rest before you go out and get tired again”
“I want to be tired right now” She scoffed, pointing at her stomach “Do you have any idea of how weak my muscles must be. I’m going to need you to walk me through every choreography so I can reignite muscle memory again”
“Sure. I’ll make a boot camp just for you” He laughed as she sighed defenseless.
Wonwoo
“You don’t have to stay, you know?” Hayun pointed out as Wonwoo fixed up the couch for himself to sleep on.
“Hoshi said you were pissed for staying one more day,” He said nonchalantly while staking some pillows “What kind of friend would I be if I let you sulking on your own?”
“The reasonable kind who knows their bed is much more comfortable than a couch he can barely fit on” The girl smirked, doing her best to turn on her side.
“What is that thing you always say before talking someone into something” Wonwoo pretended to think before raising a finger “It’s about experiencing life to its fullest”
“I don’t think this fits into that but okay”
“I’m turning off the lights” He laughed, getting up, but before his finger touched the switch, she stopped him.
“I feel like crap” Hayun pouted and he widened his eyes.
“What is up? Do you need me to call someone?” The boy left his spot by the door to come check on her closer “Is it the position you’re on”
“I threw away all my pride” She held his hand and looked up at him, trying her best not to break the sad face before continuing “I’m so upset”
“Look, you shouldn’t worry about missing the schedules. I get that you wanted to come too, but things like this happen and we have to adjust to them” He said making her sigh and let go of his hand, only to look out of the window
“Am I only this much? Now I’m scared”
“What? No, you don’t have to be scared. We all think it’s best for you to recover than-”
“I’m scared of the words of I love you” Hayun raised her tone making him shut up and stare at her confused. She let out an ironic laugh before continuing “You’re just a joke”
“What?”
“I really can’t stand you” She spat at him making his face get more confused “There’s no reason to date you. Guys like you are all over the world”
Wonwoo was just about to ask where she was going with this as a wave of realization hit him, as a reaction he closed his eyes and took a deep breath while Hayun laughed at his face.
“Did you really just quote 2NE1?” The boy scoffed before an amused grin showed up in his face.
Woozi
“I get performing, but why do I need to stay out of interviews too?” Hayun interrogated the doctor just as he was ready to discharge her “Can’t I just sit on the side? You said small movements were fine”
From her side, Woozi watched amused as the doctor explained for the third time that she needed to let her body rest, which made her argue once again that “interviews weren’t exhausting”
“We can exchange places if you want,” The boy said half-serious, half kidding making her roll her eyes.
“You wouldn’t like it,” Hayun said on a whim raising her eyebrow as she gave it a second thought “Actually, staying at home with no one else around. You totally would. Can we do that?”
“Do what exactly?” The doctor said as she stared at him excitedly.
“Have him home resting for me while I go have fun?”
“Uh-”
“The moment you learn to ignore the things she says, the better your life will become” Woozi smiled politely making her roll her eyes once again. “Anyways, are you ready to go home?”
“I don’t know, I became quite attached to this room” Hayun tried to joke, but the boy only unlocked her wheelchair and started guiding her out. “Well that was rude”
“You kept complaining you wanted to go home. I’m just trying to do that as fast as possible” He smirked as they made it to the elevator. Their manager running to keep track of his fast steps.
“Calm down, the party isn’t going anywhere” Hayun chuckled, but when she looked up to his confused face, she only rolled her eyes “Cut the crap, I know you’re throwing a welcome home party”
“Uh… you’re going to be disappointed” The boy looked to the manager and then back at her with an apologetic face.
“Oh. Nah, it’s fine” Hayun shrugged rolling her eyes “Everyone is busy anyways”
“We thought we could go out once you’re all good too” He patted her arm as they made it to the garage floor.
After the manager drove them to the dorms, they both calmly walked to the door while chatting about some nonsense on the radio. When Hayun opened the door to find her twelve losers with a banner that read “Sorry about your appendix”.

The Follies and Vices of You
cedric diggory x reader- part iv of series
based off the novel and film ‘Pride and Prejudice’ by Jane Austen
summary: Being the beloved sister of the incredibly wealthy Mr. Potter, you felt no need to rush into marriage. But one day, when you come to meet a new acquaintance, the proud Mr. Diggory, your views of love and follies change.
warnings: a bit of angst & tension! (gif is not mine, credit to owner!)
part i, part ii, part iii, part iv, part v
‘Maybe it’s that I find it hard to forgive the follies and vices of others, or their offenses against me. My good opinion, once lost, is lost forever.’ -Jane Austen
The month of January passed dreadfully slow, as you waited for something interesting to happen. As the snow fell softly onto the ground, thoughts wondered through your head rapidly, most of them involving Mr. Diggory. In fact, he occupied your mind most days. How dreadfully awkward that poor man is, you pondered, and yet how confident. His character never made sense to you, as awfully as he appeared on the outside, you could tell there was much beneath his many layers. But your thoughts were soon interrupted by a knock on the door, it was the post.
‘From Miss Ginerva, Miss Y/N.’ You smiled and nodded thankfully. Excited, you ripped the letter open and the inside read,
My Dearest Miss Y/N, I hope my letter find you very well. How dreadful these past few days have been, for all of this snow has made me think of nothing besides summer time. I was invited to stay at my brother Bill’s until the end February; Miss Hermione Granger will be attending alongside me, to encourage sisterly bonding. I am sorry to hear that Mr. Malfoy has resided back to his home up north, but I do hope that he continues to write you such pretty verses. I shall be home before the flowers bloom. Be well.
Much love, Ginerva
You sighed thinking of how even more boring the next few months would be without the company of a most dear friend.
Now that Mr. Malfoy was sent back home, the house was quieter than ever. Between Harry managing the estate, Sirius writing business proposals and Mr. Lupin locked up in the library; you felt most unentertained and gittery. Letters began being sent to you the day after he left, expressing a fondness for you, which kept your boredom to a minimum. You thought long about the letters exchanged between you and Mr. Malfoy; Ginny was certainly right in saying the verses were beautiful. She also urged you that there would soon be a proposal on the line if he kept with the letters, though you secretly hoped it wouldn't be anytime soon.
The next evening, to much of your excitement, you were joined by Mr. Fred and George Weasley for dinner, who were in the company of nobody other than Mr. Diggory. Reaching a hand out for each of the Weasley men, they took it graciously planting a kiss upon it. Extending out to Mr. Diggory as well, he ignored your gesture and simply bowed in your direction. After the questionable gesture from the latter of the men, you lead them to the dining room, where the rest of your family awaited.
The evening was going splendidly, much laughter and wide smiles reigned. That was, until a letter arrived addressed to you from Mr. Malfoy. You excused yourself from the table, to retire to the parlor to read it.
Blushing profusely and smiling at the beautiful verses addressed to you, unaware of the floorboards that creaked viciously behind; you sat on the armchair nearest the window of the parlor. You heard a throat clear at the doorway and shot your head up.
‘Mr. Diggory! I am so sorry, I mustn’t have heard of your following.’ Humming to yourself, you gazed out the window, ‘I do love this time of the year, Mr. Diggory. The snow is nothing short of lovely.’
‘Yes, Miss Potter, I do agree that the snow is very beautiful but I must interject and beckon you about some-‘
‘He’s thought to propose, you know. Mr. Malfoy that is. Quite strange, isn’t it; how young girls go to young women with only a proposal.’ You unknowingly interrupted in your dream state.
‘Miss Potter, I truly cannot help but to interject; however, there is a matter of urgency I’d like to discuss.’ Mr. Diggory huffed. Being pulled out of your trance, patience grew thin, you turned your head and snapped, ‘What is it, Mr. Diggory, that you feel so inclined to interrupt me for?’
‘Its addressing Mr. Malfoy. You see I am afraid I must interject on a most sensitive discussion topic.’
‘If you have anything negative to say about Mr. Malfoy, I must urge you that I'm the last person who would be inclined to hear it! And if you have some here to ruin my evening, I am afraid I won’t allow it.’
With that you grabbed your coat and trekked out into the falling snow. Footsteps not far behind you, you sped up; unwilling, or rather unwanting of hearing what anybody had to say. The crunching of snow only following you farther, as you followed the angelic pathway to the stone pavilion in the graden. You threw your back against the wall, sighing out deeply. Without a moment of peace Mr. Diggory entered your presence.
‘You cannot marry him’
You were taken aback by his sudden bluntness. Exasperated by his cultivated occurrence of strange actions you cocked your head at him.
‘May I ask you why, Mr. Diggory?’
‘The Malfoy family is least cordial, completely unattached and deranged from society. They are completely unsuitable for a family such as yours.’
‘A family such as mine?! Have you come here to separate an engagement or to insult my family, Mr. Diggory? Or rather, does your sudden interest in my affairs have anything to do with your dislike towards Mr. Malfoy; because believe me, Mr. Diggory, I know well of your disputes with the poor gentleman and will not stop an engagement from happening due to your pride and arrogance.’
‘No, Miss Potter! You know perfectly well that I find your family most respectable. I just find their family uncommony stiff for your reckless behavior.’
‘Reckless behavior! How dare you insult not only my upkeeping but a personality of another. Have you forgotten the follies and vices of you, Mr. Diggory? For who are you to judge another?’
‘Miss Y/N, has it ever occurred to you that you may be too harsh on me or perhaps my light on you may have been caused by the misjudgment of one’s character? I beg of you to enlighten me on why you find me the most disagreeable man.’
‘Well then, I beg you, Mr. Diggory, why you wish to separate a young couple who have grown quite fond of each other?’
‘Because I love you.’
There was a lull and Mr. Diggory halted. ‘I love you most ardently and I could not have you go another day more without you knowing of the likeness I have for you.’
You stood in silence, snow falling ever so godly on you both, speechless. Words clouded your mind, and you wanted to scream, and cry, and love, and erupt all at the same time. But rather than doing any of them, you looked back on him with a haze in your eyes.
‘I would not marry you if you were the last man in the world.’ You said walking away, allowing a tear slip silently from your face.
The next day there was a knock on your bedroom door early in the morning. Mr. Diggory walked in humbled and shy, ‘Miss Y/N, I’ve come to leave this for you. I hope you do me the honor to read it. Thank you much for your time.’
You had not even reached his gaze, for he spoke for too quickly and you were far too angry. Staring at the enveloped with a tear stained face for nearly an hour, you decided to open it.
Dear Miss Potter,
I hope my letter finds you in good health. I do not wish to impose on you again what I have said last night; for I am writing to you today not to remind you of said words, but rather converse upon the accusations you have brought upon me. I urge you that everything in this letter is the truth and have many to testify upon it.
Mr. Draco Malfoy and I had been connected since infancy, for his father, Lucius, and mine worked exceptionally close together. However, as Mr. Malfoy grew he became reckless; he gambled a large portion of his father’s money away and took no responsibilities seriously. Soon thereafter, his father wrote him out of his will, leaving nothing to his son. Mr. Malfoy became desperate for an inheritance; my father later offered him a job which he begrudgingly took. However, not more than seven months of work, he confessed a most passionate love to my sister. It did not take long for us to realize that he was only after her fortune for she was to inherit seven thousand pound a year. She was thirteen at the time and utterly heartbroken.
When my sister had gotten sick mere months later, my mother and I moved to London alongside her to get the best medical help. Unable to access our money without my father present, Mr. Lucius graciously lent us the sum of the bills. Unfortunately, my sister passed with just two months of treatment; she was truly a remarkable young woman. After the mourning, we paid what was due back to the Malfoy family; but for Mr. Draco Malfoy it was not enough. He hounded me for more money; knowing his dispositions I had given him the sum of his ask in hopes that he would become something of himself. He gambled the money away in two weeks. After that, I refused to give him anymore money, cutting him off for good.
Miss Y/N, I am terribly sorry to force the burden of the truth onto you, but I just felt that you ought to know. Please do keep the affairs containing my sister private, as I believe it be a disgrace to her memory to attach her name to one like his. Thank you for the time we have shared.
Yours, Mr. Cedric Diggory

TA, dr and other abbreviations
Neil x Reader
summary: some time ago, Neil was a TA at your uni, now you meet up again when he needs your help with his next mission
+ song: Chase Atlantic - Friends
warnings: language, alcohol mention, things get steamy so let’s say 18+
author’s note: that request was fun! 👀 I’ve enjoyed the dynamic between those two, so I decided to try something different in terms of the writing style.
This is also the first one-shot not related to Stuck in Reverse series, can you believe?
Let me know what you think!
___
Your eyes dart towards your lab’s door, your brows raise at the sight of a familiar face. Your day just got a whole lot better.
“Good afternoon, I’m looking for doctor-...” a man at the door glances at you and he skips a beat, clearly trying to remember where does he know you from.
You don’t feel like helping him to figure it out though. To be fair, you’ve changed quite a lot over those last 10 years. You smile to yourself as you think about your younger self, always so anxious and flustered in Neil’s presence. If only she could see you now. She would appreciate the glow-up, that’s for sure.
God, you used to have the biggest crush on him. Not that he knew about it, of course. He was 8 years older than you, also he was a TA during your uni time. You talked sometimes, but that was all, you knew he was seeing someone back then; you settled down for daydreaming about his blue eyes and dying a bit inside whenever you saw him.
And now he’s here, still as hot and gorgeous as ever.
You put on your most polite expression, fighting the smug grin from appearing on your face.
“While I kinda enjoy seeing your puzzled face, I’m also quite busy, so I'm gonna give you a tip – your little TA gig a few years ago.”
Neil’s gaze flares up as he looks you up and down, still a bit confused, trying to match the image he remembers to your present look.
He blinks twice, composes himself, and proceeds with his request for your aid.
When he leans over your desk and shows you the mission’s brief on his tablet, you notice that he wears the same cologne as he used to all those years ago. Your heart flutters in your chest, but definitely not in that old, nervous way. You chew on your bottom lip, trying to stay focused on Neil’s words. You must admit, the sudden change in dynamic is thrilling. As you help him go through some of the details regarding his next assignment, you wonder if you’re gonna see him more frequently from now on.
You certainly wouldn’t mind.
This time, the Universe smiles upon you.
Neil pops into your lab more and more often.
At first, it’s all related to work.
After some time, you begin to wonder if he doesn’t look for just any excuse to come over. You don’t care though, you really enjoy his company.
And it seems like Neil’s grown quite fond of you himself.
Now that he’s finally wrapped his mind around the new you, his blue eyes always light up in your presence. You don’t even realize the exact moment when his usual charming demeanor becomes straight up flirtatious.
But when you notice that change, oh my, the game is on.
Well, he still keeps it all professional, of course.
It’s the little things. That slight change of posture. The accidental brush of his fingers on your hand when he passes you things. Or that light touch on your shoulder when you both lean over the desk and go through some papers needed for his missions.
The intense stare right into your eyes, with a corner of his lips twitched in a half-smile.
But you can give as good as you get.
The way you tilt your head and expose your neck when he’s standing close. Taking that little extra step in his direction when you talk, stopping at the verge of his personal space as you watch him hold his breath for a second. A bit of playful teasing, sometimes involving light tugs at his tie.
And that last thing always ends up with Neil almost forgetting the tongue in his mouth. Almost.
...Sometimes you ask yourself if you’re not having too much fun when he’s around. You’re at work, after all.
It’s one of those evenings. You should’ve gone home a long time ago, instead, you’re hanging out with Neil, talking about everything and nothing in particular.
Your phone beeps. You read a short message and you muse over it for a moment. You know that your companion is gonna leave soon, late-night mission or whatever; the suggestion to blow off steam you’ve received sounds like just what you need.
You meet Neil’s curious look and you realize you’ve let a sly grin appear on your face.
You shrug.
“A booty call,” you say in the most casual tone.
A hint of satisfaction flashes in your eyes when you watch Neil’s very conflicted expression. You bite your lip to stifle a giggle. He’s adorable.
He crosses his arms, the corners of his mouth curl.
“Does that happen often?”
“Oh darling, a lady never kisses and tells. Why, do you want in on the list?” you tease, narrowing your eyes.
His eyebrow quirks. “There is a list, huh?”
“Is that a yes?” you grin, mimicking his raised brow.
He walks up to your desk and slowly reaches past you for his jacket, hung on the back of your seat.
And as his face gets right next to your ear-...
“Maybe.”
When he pulls back and you see his blue eyes, how dark they are, it takes all your self-control to keep a straight face. But the question escapes your mouth anyway.
“See you later this week?”
You mentally kick yourself for this moment of weakness.
“Hm,” he gives you a peculiar smile on his way out.
Well, that wasn't exactly a yes.
At the door, he shoots you a quick look over his shoulder.
“Have fun.”
...does he seem a little pissed-off to you?
And you have fun that night, all right.
Even though all you can think about are those blue eyes and dirty blonde hair.
Then, Neil doesn’t show up for the next couple of days.
For a moment, you get tempted to check on him at the HQ, but you scoff at yourself. He’s a big boy, he can handle himself.
When he finally walks into your lab, something feels different.
You can’t put your finger on it.
In the beginning, he’s just so official and it irks you. But you look into his eyes and… it almost seems like he’s taunting you. And it makes your heart increase its pace.
Oh, you see how it is.
On top of it all, he’s so annoying today.
He sits on the chair, loosening his tie, his legs spread, his gaze locked on you.
After yet another snarky comment, you grit your teeth, trying to focus on the documents in front of you.
“Neil, if you interrupt me one more time, so help me god.”
And he does. He does, leaning back on the chair with a smug smile.
So... now what?
You scoff and close in on him.
“Why are you like this?” you utter, reaching for his tie.
The innocent look in his eyes.
“Like what?”
You give his tie a tug.
“Rude.”
And then that bastard runs the tongue over his lower lip and smirks.
Next thing you know, you straddle him on the chair, burying your fingers in his hair as his mouth crushes on yours. Neil wraps his arms around you and pulls you closer. The urgency of the kiss takes your breath away. You rock your hips and you brush against the bulk in his trousers, and oh god, it feels so good. Your head arches back. Neil’s breath and his lips on your neck drive you wild. You need him, right here, right now. You cling on to him for your dear life as you move your hips again and a sharp moan escapes his mouth.
The abrupt knock on your door makes you both jump at your feet, trying to level your breaths.
“Mate, I’ve been looking for you everywhere! Why the fuck are you not answering your phone, eh?”
As Ives enters the room, his eyes dart between the two of you, a wicked grin plastered on his face.
“Ah shit, I hope I am not interrupting?”
You roll your eyes as Neil simply glares at him.
The moment is gone, and so are they, leaving for yet another emergency operation.
A few days later, your friends take you out for drinks, and you definitely have one too many.
…Or a few too many.
You end up standing at Neil’s apartment door, pressing the doorbell excessively long.
He opens up, looking you up and down with an amused smile.
You poke him in the chest.
“Consider yourself booty-called.”
You giggle as you watch his eyes widen.
Neil clenches his jaw and takes a step back.
“Jesus... Come in?”
He takes your coat and you make your way inside.
You are way past caring about small talks and whatnot. You pull on his shirt, trying to guide him towards that rather comfy looking couch.
One more step.
You want to kiss him, but Neil puts a finger on your mouth and shakes his head.
“What? I thought you wanted in on the list?” you ask as you sit down on the couch, your brows furrowed.
“Not like this.”
Wow, now your pride is hurt a little.
“Fine, I’m going home then,” you pout and try to get up quickly.
You underestimate the amount of alcohol in your system though, so you yelp and fall back.
“You’re not going anywhere in this state,” he scoffs.
Why is he the way that he is?
“I’ll get you some coffee, make yourself comfortable.”
And so you do. You toss your shoes away and rest your head on one of the pillows.
You close your eyes just for a second.
You open them up again when Neil covers you with a blanket.
To be honest, you’re way too tired and cozy to argue.
When you notice the soft look in his blue eyes, your heart melts in your chest.
And because all your filters are off at this point, you say, “I really like you, you know?”
He chuckles and places a small kiss on the tip of your nose.
“Tell me that when you’re sober.”
The next morning… well, let’s just say that you wish the sun was shining a bit more quietly.
Neil glances at you from the kitchen.
“Morning.”
You don’t know what hits you first – the pounding headache or the nauseating dread at the thought of what’s happened last night.
“Fuck me,” you groan, hiding your face in your palms.
And what do you hear in response?
“With pleasure. But how about we eat breakfast first?”

"ive never felt like this about anyone before!" with terasaka and nagisa?? (or just karmagisa if ur uncomfy with that! :>)
Pairing: Nagisa Shiota/Ryoma Terasaka
Genre: Romance, Fluff
Word Count: 1,588
A/N: Aww this is a cute pairing! I decided to go the classic route of confessing with chocolates UwU. Also ft. BFF/wingwoman Kayano!! I really like the honest simplicity of Nagisa and Terasaka’s relationship, and I hope I conveyed that well.
Before joining 3-E, Nagisa never really thought of himself as unpredictable. He’d always been a simple guy, with not many quirks. Maybe a bit of a wallflower, even. He liked observing others and the nuances of human nature. He liked seeing how other people could be surprising.
But then 3-E happened, and he kept receiving constant praises of his “natural talents.” How stealthy he was, how he took down Takaoka, how he kept on shocking his classmates and teachers with his capriciousness, etc.
Nagisa couldn’t help but enjoy the attention, although he tried his best to hide it. But truth be told, he still saw himself as a simple person. And a part of him preferred it that way, seeking out some normalcy in the midst of his transformed life.
And now, as he stood in his kitchen, eyes wide at the countertop covered with a dozen different ingredients, he was wishing he’d been more unique after all.
Chocolates on Valentine’s Day? How unoriginal, he sighed internally.
Nagisa reached for his plain navy apron and looped it over his head, the fabric tickling his nose. He tied the straps behind him and took a deep breath, eyeing the gourmet bar of 80% cacao he’d purchased.
Before he could linger on his doubts and call off the entire thing, his best friend (and baking partner) returned from the bathroom. Kayano bounded into the kitchen with a grin on her face. “Sorry for making you wait, Nagisa. I just had to take care of a small hair emergency!”
“No, no, it’s fine,” Nagisa quickly reassured her with a smile. He glanced at her dark messy bun, fondly recalling the old quirky jade pigtails he’d grown used to for an entire year. “Thanks again for helping me out, Kayano.”
“Of course!” she replied, skillfully tying on her own butterscotch apron. “What are friends for, if not helping you make chocolates because you’re a hopeless mess in the kitchen?”
Nagisa laughed and stepped back to give her room as she started examining the ingredients. “Yeah, I would’ve destroyed my kitchen. Cooking is one thing, but I’m not good at baking...and I’ve never made chocolates before.”
“That’s fine. They’re pretty easy to make, once you get past the beginning,” Kayano assured him with a smile.
They fell into comfortable conversation as they worked through the recipe. Nagisa’s clumsy hands nearly made a few mistakes, but Kayano was quick to assist him. Eventually, they stood by and waited for the chocolate to melt over the stove, with Nagisa continuously stirring it.
“I really appreciate you helping me. Seriously, that’s so nice of you. Let me know if there’s anything I can help you with.”
He paused then quickly fixed his words, stammering. “I-I mean, you can ask for anything at any time, of course! I just meant to return the favor, you know?”
Kayano laughed. “Relax, Nagisa. This is nothing compared to what an awesome friend you’ve been for me. You don’t owe me anything.”
He frowned slightly. “But…”
She hummed in thought. “I guess I am pretty curious to know who you’re giving them to, though? But only if you’re comfortable sharing!”
There was a brief silence, only the stirring of the liquid chocolate filling the air between them.
“Nagisa…?”
“Terasaka-kun.”
“Huh?”
He sighed with a smile. “I’m making these for Terasaka-kun.”
“Really?” Her eyes widened. “Aww!”
Nagisa winced at her high-pitched squeal then smiled at her acceptance. “You’re not surprised?”
“Not really,” she admitted. “You guys have always had a very sweet and trusting relationship.”
Nagisa felt his face heat up. “You think so?” he asked quietly, returning his gaze back to the pot.
“Yes, I do,” she smiled. “They say the best relationships always do come after one of you nearly blows the other up, anyways~”
He groaned as she laughed.
Another stretch of comfortable silence passed and soon, they were onto decorating the chocolates. Nagisa watched in awe as she delicately laced the top of the rich chocolates with a caramel icing.
Finally, it was his turn. He carefully made a tiny flower design with the hazelnut icing tube. “You know…” he began.
“I’ve never done anything like this before,” he admitted quietly. “Making chocolates...confessing...I never acted on my feelings or was proactive.” Nagisa’s eyes were trained on what he was doing, but he could feel Kayano’s gaze on him.
“But...the way I feel about Terasaka-kun. With him. Around him…” A small smile etched onto his face. “It’s such an intense, engulfing feeling. But at the same time, it makes me feel lighter than air.”
“I’ve never felt like this about anyone before.”
The next day was Valentine’s Day, and Nagisa swore, he never heard his own heart beat so rapidly before in his whole life.
He had texted Terasaka that morning to meet up somewhere, under the context of borrowing a book. The five minutes in which he’d awaited a response were the most agonizing he’d ever felt. Was he being too obvious? Terasaka responded positively though, with a short “yeah ofc. see u later.” Nagisa had fallen out of his bed in relief.
Now he was standing outside the local library, clutching onto his schoolbag. He was still in his uniform, and he bet Terasaka would be as well since school hours had just ended.
Valentine’s Day had been uneventful for the most part. He’d gotten friendship chocolates from most of the girls in his class, a completely platonic gesture. Nagisa made a mental note of who he would give gifts to on White Day, to return such a kind gesture. Outside of that, he’d just watched in amusement at some of the antics going on around him. Chocolates being given by the hundreds to popular boys, confessions going wildly wrong and descending into chaos, fangirls, all the like.
“Yo!” His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a familiar voice. Nagisa jolted up at the sight of Terasaka making his way towards him. The object of his affection was uniform-clad in a rather neat manner, with his school bag slung over his shoulder, wearing a fond grin once his eyes locked with Nagisa’s.
Nagisa felt his stomach tighten, as if a bunch of knots were tied inside. This is it… “Hey,” he greeted with a smile, waving to the taller boy. “It’s good to see you.”
“You too,” Terasaka replied warmly, slowing to a stop a couple feet in front of him. “How’s this crappy holiday been for ya?”
“Heh, pretty boring,” Nagisa chuckled. “Like always, I just get friendship chocolates from the girls in my class.”
“Really? That’s still cool.”
Nagisa hummed. “What about you?” He asked, instantly dreading the answer.
Terasaka laughed lightly. “I got some from the squad as a joke, and I’m completely fine with that.”
“Oh, haha.” Nagisa felt a weight lift off his chest at the response, and his grip tightened on his bag.
Terasaka frowned slightly at him. “You okay? You’re acting a little weird.”
Now? Nagisa questioned himself. Now feels right…
Finally making his resolve, Nagisa chose not to answer verbally. Instead, he quickly opened his bag and pulled out the decorated box. He opted to go simple, rather than the ornate boxes he’d seen people give. It was a small square shape in a deep crimson color, topped by a golden bow.
“Terasaka-kun…” Nagisa let out a sharp breath he was unaware he’d been holding. He lifted his gaze to meet Terasaka’s, and offered him a genuine smile.
“I really like you. And I made you these chocolates.” He extended his hand holding the box. “Will you go out with me?”
A tiny part of Nagisa’s mind, within his conscious, was blown away at his actions. He was seriously confessing to his crush. With homemade chocolates. Is this for real?
But Nagisa was nothing if not honest. And that extended to even himself.
A second had passed and Terasaka gently took the chocolates from him, a warm look in his eyes that made Nagisa melt just a little. His lips were curved into a rare smile of faded surprise and contentment.
Finally he spoke, his voice like honey, full of affection. “Of course I’ll go out with you, stupid. I like you too.”
Nagisa’s chest swelled with joy. He smiled stronger than he ever had before, a rush of emotion passing through him.
Terasaka’s attention had shifted to the box in his large hands, and he tugged the bow off. “You made these yourself?” He sounded curious.
“Yes...but with a lot of help from Kayano,” Nagisa admitted sheepishly, rubbing the back of his short hair.
Terasaka laughed as he opened it, picking up the one that Nagisa had decorated with a flower. “They look awesome.” He plucked it into his mouth and chewed thoughtfully. His eyes soon lit up. “Woah, they taste great too!”
“Really?!” Nagisa asked excitedly, feeling a bit of pride.
“For sure.” Terasaka nodded with a grin that soon turned shy. He averted his gaze slightly, his face pink. “Thanks for making these for me…”
“I’m glad you like them,” Nagisa said somewhat absentmindedly, his attention focused on how cute Terasaka’s shy smile was.
His thoughts were interrupted by Terasaka suddenly leaning in closer. “Wait uh…” His crush’s face reddened even more. “...Can I kiss you?”
Nagisa felt his own face flush as he nodded.
The kiss was simple and sweet, yet filled with strong genuine emotions. It was almost like a representative of their bond.
And Nagisa wouldn’t have it any other way.

( golshifteh farahani, cisgender female, she / her ) the city of gods is proud to welcome hel. she appears to be thirty eight years old and is the goddess of death from norse mythology. hel can be found working as the proprietor at a hole in the wall vintage shop and is amused by the death of zeus. (written by saint, twenty, they / them, cst.)
GENERAL INFORMATION . . .
name : hel
alias(es) : helena
title : norse goddess of death
apparent age : thirty-eight
pronouns : she/her
sexuality : bisexual
relationship status : single
occupation : owner of lost & found, a hole in the wall vintage store
traits : aloof, sarcastic, cynical, genuine, good-hearted, introverted, well-spoken, clever.
BEFORE . . .
downward and northward. hel, for all her stubborn determination, cannot recall exactly what came before niflheim. logically — that is, in her logic —there must have been something! some sort of before bit prior to her responsibility over the dead of the nine worlds. she simply couldn’t fathom a reality in which there was nothing and then there was niflheim.
and yet . . . niflheim is all she can remember. she can remember — if she focuses ever so carefully — the orders given to her. board and lodging. board and lodging to the old and the sick and the unremarkable sent to her dominion. the orders were the first of her many, many memories, and so she took them to heart.
hel tried to taking special care of those sent to her; offered them board and lodging and, at first, care and compassion. however, the souls sent to her did not take so kindly to the death which she embodied, mournful and eternally regretting valhalla, which they had not earned.
hel one day found herself grown cold and detached from the souls which she ruled over — for loving those who could scarcely spare her a passing thought wore down on her spirits. there was one, however, amidst the many, who offered her a bit of solace. baldr — beauty incarnate in the weary eyes of hel. he offered her kindness, a treatment the other souls of niflheim had refused her. she could understand why the living loved him so, and almost — just almost — considered releasing him from the underworld at frigg’s pleas. it was not right to keep someone so beloved from those who loved him! . . . but hel had grown selfish and fond of the man, and would only release him if every single being — alive and dead — wept for the man’s death. when they did not, and baldr was to remain at her side for eternity, she did not feel her deserved happiness . . . she only felt . . . guilt: gnawing and numbing and all encompassing.
AFTER . . .
hel was less than impressed when knowledge of the city of gods reached her. what was a city compared to nine worlds? she had grown proud in her cynicism, and yet, with each passing day, she found that city — new crete, was it? — making it’s way into her thoughts more and more often.
she cannot remember what spurred the move, only that: one day there was niflheim, and the next there was new crete. in new crete she could start anew.
lost & found began as merely a way to pass time, a side gig while she discovered what wonders new crete could offer. but her side gig became her main gig, and lost & found has stood proud as a local favorite “hole in the wall” vintage shop.
still, hel kept to herself as she navigated the ever-growing city. when news of zeus’s death reached her doorstep, the goddess had a hard time hiding her amusement. the pompous bastard deserved it. perhaps, one day, the implications of the god’s death would dawn on the goddess, but for now . . .
POWERS . . .
hel, despite the rather large domain under her command, is not as powerful as many of the other god’s inhabiting new crete.
I . her most notable power is that of necromancy. as goddess of the underworld, she has complete control of the souls within her domain. should she will it, she can release a soul from niflheim to return and walk amongst the living once more. this process does, however, take a great toll on hel’s human form — both mentally, and physically. it is not something done often — or for free.
II . it is a grim gift — if one could even call it that — but hel can sense when death is near. she cannot determine the cause or exact time, but she can feel it’s proximity in her bones and who it comes for. furthermore, her touch can ease the pain of passing. since coming to crete, she has made it a point to assist any passing she may come across.
III . hel can also, as her domain resides over the nine worlds, understand and speak any spoken, written, or otherwise communicated language. if utilized for prolonged periods of time, it can leave hel with a nasty, thrumming migraine that only rest ( and laying off the powers ) can solve.
IV . in a more general sense, hel is not as powerful in new crete as she is in niflheim. many of her powers do not extend to this realm, left behind in the halls of her many mansions. the price of her staying in new crete is that, more often than deemed “normal”, she finds her human form falling victim to illness or fatigue. any extraneous use of her powers only aggravates this.
MISCELLANEOUS FACTS & TID - BITS . . .
I . my portrayal of hel is not an evil one ! instead of playing into any true evil archetypes, i’d say she’s more of a morally grey character — withdrawn, cold, and sometimes’s self serving, but fiercely loyal to those who have proven themself a friend. once you break through her icy exterior, she’s good company to have around — honest.
II . hel does not remember her family, nor does she remember the brief part of her childhood spent in jötunheimer. she does, however, remember what brief glimpse of odin she got before being exiled beneath the roots of yggdrasil to niflheim. she does not assume him family, but does feel a strange kinship for him. this fact shames her, considering it was his command that banished her to niflheim.
III . hel has an alias — a secret identity, if you will — for when she she interacts with mortals, or simply doesn’t want to be perceived as hel. the name helena struck her fancy — similar enough that it was still her, yet different enough that, when she so desired a break from hel, she could take one. she mainly uses it when interacting with mortals ignorant of the goings-on of new crete, or those outside new crete entirely.
ADMIN NOTE . . .
as of now, i don’t have anything else to say beyond the contents of this post are subject to change as i portray and get to know hel through interactions! . . . that being said, feel free to hit me up if you want to plot or develop connections! i’m so excited to start getting to know her, and getting to know y’all and you’re lovely muses!
#“ . . . HEL | introduction.#neonintro#[ ah fak this ended up being so much longer than i intended ]#[ i got hit w the tired at the end so if it suddenly sucks at the end just like. don't pay attention to that <3 ]

A/N: Thank you everyone who has supported me through this series. This is the first completely fanfiction series I’ve completed in quite some time not counting one-shots. I’m pretty terrible at finishing fics because I’m HORRIBLE at endings...and middles....really I’m only good at beginnings lmao. Please enjoy the Epilogue and look for more oneshots that I’ll write for this universe periodically. More “Deleted scenes” if you will, since the last one I wrote did really well. Ao3 is currently down so I’ll updated it there as soon as it comes back up.
Part Six: Epilogue
The screams of the two princesses echoed down the hallway. King Owens paced frantically outside the closed door to the special room in the royal infirmary. Sweat beaded on his brow as his stomach turned as he heard his oldest cry out once again.
He was useless. Just as useless as he was on the days they were born. He fainted when his wife was pushing out Shanna and would have passed out for Lily had he not been sitting down already at the doctor’s request. He did well under political pressure, but not under personal stress.
Inside the room, divided by a thin curtain, Shanna and Lily were plagued with labor pains. Though their due dates were a few days apart, and still about a week away, both had started contractions heavily that morning.
Shanna blamed her husband. Sweet Pea had seduced her into a round of wake-up sex which triggered her labor. Hearing her sister’s cries of pain caused Lily so much stress that she then went into labor. It was quite the royal disaster.
Sweet Pea’s fingers were currently being fractured in his wife’s tight grip. “I fucking hate you!” She yelled, tears trailing down her face, “you just had to get your dick wet!”
“That’s why this is happening?!” Lily yelled from the other side of the curtain, poised on her own bed. “Because he couldn’t take care of his morning wood himself?”
Jughead, future king of Riverdale, was doing his best to not laugh at his brother’s misfortune of incurring the wrath of both princesses. In fact, he couldn’t keep the smile from beaming across his face as today would be the day that he’d finally meet his son.
Sweet Pea would have been overjoyed to see his daughter in person for the first time as well if he weren’t currently being screamed at by two women in an insurmountable amount of pain. Their contractions were fairly closed together, although Lily was dilated about two inches more and was finally ready to get an epidural.
Princess Shanna was breathing heavily between muscle contractions as she tried to rest against the bed until her next one hit in approximately two minutes. She overheard the nurse letting Lily know she could get anesthetic now and Shanna groaned with the agony of jealousy.
Her own nurse checked her once more, head bobbing under the sheet that was tented by her knees. “Not quite yet, your highness.” She said, much to Shanna’s disdain. The nurse stood back up, putting the sheet back down. “But soon. Hopefully a few more minutes.”
“She’s dragging this out because she’s trying to kill me!” Shanna yelled in a fit of dramatics as she noticed Lily’s own pained sobs had mostly quieted. The world was cruel and she’d love nothing more than to catapult Sweet Pea into the sun for doing this to her.
Sweet Pea tried to soothe her by smoothing down her mussy hair, “no she’s not. She’s just not ready to come out yet…”
“And whose fault is that?” Shanna snapped at him angrily, ready to break another one of his phalanges. He blanched, knowing that this day might end in his own death.
Twelve laborious hours after she went into labor, Crowned Princess Lily gave birth to a healthy baby boy and newest heir to the throne. Of course, keeping with traditions, he was named Forsythe Pendleton Jones IV. Although the couple had settled on the nickname “Pax” to symbolize the peace he was to bring to their newly joined kingdoms.
Shanna was not quite as lucky. Her own labor lasted a total of fifteen hours before the new little princess joined the world at last. Princess Dahlia, after a flower that Shanna was quite fond of and in keeping with the floral tradition of her husband’s name.
Although no longer ascending the throne, Shanna still had to stay in the Northside castle as her husband was training the ground troops there to get them into shape. Some of his best men had come from the Southside to help him and he spent entirely too much time in his beloved war room, leaving his wife and newborn daughter to fend for themselves.
Well, as much as princesses would need to, considering the personal servants and chambermaids they both had. The king had even tried to order for a wet nurse to be available but the new mothers greatly protested as they didn’t want anyone else to be feeding their newborn children. Unfortunately for the king, he had to accept that his daughters were grown adults now and no longer needed his help with much.
Six weeks after Pax and Dahlia were born, the crowning ceremony was held for Lily and Jughead to finally become the reigning couple. King Owens stepped down from king to simply father of the queen. In truth, he was quite okay with this as ruling solo for so long had been quite tiresome. He had been looking forward to the rest greatly. Although he did stick around for a majority of the council meetings to help guide his daughter in the political processes. Afterall, Shanna had been the one trained in all of it and not Lily. It was an easy fix, however, and Lily was a natural just as her mother had been.
With Lily and Jughead ruling as equals, most of their day was spent going over new decrees, new laws being passed, having an audience with those wanting to propose changes or new social programs, going over financing the Southside with supplies, and various odds and ends. This meant that for a majority of the day, their son was actually in the care of his aunt as she had no royal duty to do...well anything really.
It actually caused her a great deal of distress, although feeling mostly fulfilled as a mother and aunt, she still grew depressed with the thought that this was all that was left for her while her sister and husband were off doing bigger and better things. She was left in their dust and was feeling particularly ignored and abandoned.
She was in her favorite sunroom with the two infants one day, alone as usual, and on this particular day she was weeping silently as she rocked the bassinet Pax was currently fussing in as he was fighting sleep. Her own daughter was already passed out from a belly full of fresh breast milk.
Duke Mantle, not the old pissant Marty but the new and improved Reginald, came across her there and noticed something wasn’t right. He came in slowly, not wanting to startle her or the little one that she was trying to get to sleep.
“Princess…?” He asked softly as she quickly wiped the tears from her face, hoping that he hadn’t seen them. But of course, he had. That was one of the reasons why he was coming in here. “May I sit down?”
Shanna let out a tired sigh. She didn’t sleep much, really only when both babies were asleep was she finally able to drift off into dreamlessness. “You may.” She said, her exhaustion evident in her voice.
Reggie sat down on the couch beside her. Not too close to be inappropriate, but close enough to try and give some kind of comfort. “What’s wrong?” He asked timidly, a tone that he very rarely took. She didn’t even look at him as she continued to gently move the bassinet back and forth in a rhythm that only she could feel.
“What do you care, Reggie?” She bit back, not understanding what he was doing here when he surely had some important things to do. Even the duke had a bigger role to play in the kingdom than she did at this point. She never thought that she would one day regret giving up the crown.
The duke frowned, “I know I didn’t act like it, Princess Shanna, but I have always cared about you. I never stopped caring. Everything I did to hurt you, that was my father’s doing. I never once lied about my feelings for you.”
More tears flooded her eyes as she tried to get them to stop. Hearing this from him was definitely not something she had realized that she needed. It did help heal some of her past hurts though and perhaps she felt the tiniest bit less used by him. She was quiet, still not answering his question.
“What is wrong?” He repeated, moving just a fraction closer. “Is something wrong with the prince?” His gaze moved to Pax who was finally starting to settle down, although gave the occasional whimper of protest.
“No, he’s fine.” She murmured, “Everything’s fine. I don’t have to be queen. I’m married to Sweet Pea. I have a beautiful daughter and nephew...everything is totally and completely fine.”
This was an obvious lie as if that were truly the case then she wouldn’t be sitting here by herself crying. Reggie obviously knew this as it wasn’t hard to deduce. “Then why are you crying?”
She hesitated, unsure if she should bare her soul to him once more. The last time she did it bit her on the ass. “My life has always had a purpose in regards to the kingdom. I was raised with an important role to fill. Now that I don’t have that...I feel completely useless.”
Her shoulders trembled with the threat of another sob, however she held it in. She didn’t want anyone seeing her like this, especially not Reggie. Despite him greatly improving himself over the past few months and flourishing with his new title, she still couldn’t help but feel like he was an old enemy that she just couldn’t trust.
Reggie put a gentle hand on her shoulder. He hesitated as he felt her stiffen beneath his touch. It was not a romantic gesture, rather a comforting one. Something to assure her that she wasn’t as alone as she felt. “Everyone else has a role to fill and you don’t.” He said, more for clarification than as a statement. Shanna nodded her head weakly. Even her husband had an incredibly important job. The once crowned princess was now nothing more than a royal nanny.
He gently rubbed her shoulder, “I think you’re greatly minimizing your importance in the work you are doing, princess.” He said softly, hoping she would take his words to heart. “Not just anyone can be a mother. And these are just regular children you’re taking care of. The crowned prince will one day be king of all of Riverdale. To ensure he is a good one, then he must be raised right. It takes a special person to do that. Not to say that the queen isn’t special, she is. I just mean it’s not something a commoner could do.”
Reggie paused, taking in her countenance. Shanna was still frowning, albeit not quite as deeply. “And Princess Dahlia I’m sure will one day have an important role herself. She could take over her father’s job or simply help rule the Southside for Prince Forsythe. My point is that she will also need a special upbringing as well. You should not sell yourself so short.”
Shanna chewed on her lip in thought. She wanted to believe him but that was proving to be difficult. The duke continued, “What you’re doing is extremely important, but if you still want to do more then why don’t you think about starting new social programs for the mothers of Riverdale? Help them get the things they need to take better care of their children.”
Finally she cracked a smile, “Reggie...that’s a wonderful idea. I could totally do that and propose it to Lily, I’m sure she’ll agree with it. Jughead will just have to sign off on the financial aid, but…”
His face mirrored hers: happy and excited, “I could help you if you want. Give your proposal while you take care of these two. Maybe work out any of the kinks that pop up.”
She turned to look at him fully, “Thank you, Reggie. This is the nicest thing you’ve ever done for me. How can I repay you?”
“Just stop hating me.” He said softly, eyes downcast with hurt, “forgive me. I never wanted to hurt you. You know the difficult position my father put me in, and-” She cut him off with a wave of her hand.
“If that’s all, then certainly I can do that. All is forgiven, Duke Mantle. Now, go grab a notepad and a pen and we’ll get started.” The princess declared, a smile still lighting up her face.
Reggie nodded and quickly did as she asked before joining her back on the couch so they could get to work.

Shanna had still not been getting much sleep. Dahlia insisted on eating every two hours, even during the night. Though it relieved the fullness of her breasts, she was starting to feel utterly defeated. Sweet Pea, who slept like a sentient rock, did not wake up to his daughter’s cries. He was totally immune to her hunger pains.
But today was different. Today Sweet Pea had taken some time off to spend with his new family, mostly his daughter who he couldn’t quite believe the amount of love he had for her. He never wanted to protect something so fiercely as her in his entire life. He didn’t get any kind of paternal leave as there was much too much work to do. Instead he was forced to take time off here and there to get any real quality time with her.
Luckily this gave his wife some time to nap peacefully without having to worry about being woken up by a baby. Pax was with the queen today as she took her own day off to play with her little boy. Her and Jughead did this from time to time as to not miss these crucial first moments of their child’s life.
The princess had been asleep for the past three hours, which was more consecutive time than she’d had since Dahlia was born. If she truly wanted to, she could have nannies take care of her, but Shanna was determined to do it herself. If other mother’s could then so could she.
She was abruptly woken by the loudest burp she had ever heard. It startled her so bad that she nearly fell off the bed. She let out a groan before pulling on the robe and going into the living room of their new suite to see who the hell that came from and to promptly yell at them.
“I swear to god, Sweet Pea, the best sleep I get in two months and you-” She walked in to find both her husband and daughter in a fit of giggles. It was the first time she had heard Dahlia do something other than cry… Her eyes teared up with joy.
“She is definitely my daughter. Did you hear that whopper? That was her!” He was so utterly proud of his offspring in that moment that he thought he might burst.
Shanna did not look nearly as impressed. Mostly she just looked exhausted. “Did you give her gas drops?”
He grinned before kissing his baby on the forehead. “Of course I did. Looks like they’re working perfectly. Sleep well?”
“I did until the princess woke me up with the loudest burp in the history of the kingdom.” She grumbled as she tried to wipe the sleep from her eyes. “Well, I guess I’m up now. I should pump since she just ate. Did she take the bottle okay?”
“Yes. I told you she would. Just let me feed her sometimes at night. You don’t always have to do it. All you have to do is pinch me and I’ll wake up.” Sweet Pea said, a smile still on his face as he was still entirely too amused.
She smiled before sitting down on the couch, “I guess I can. I feel bad because you have to work.”
Sweet Pea sat down beside her. “It’s not like you do nothing all day.” He said, rolling his eyes. “How is the new proclamation going? Mantle behaving himself?”
Her eyes lit up, “it’s going wonderfully! We’re going to give the formal proposal next Tuesday. It would help every newborn in the kingdom and make sure every new mother and father have all the tools they need to raise their babies. I’m so excited. Lily was very on board when I told her about it at lunch yesterday.”
Dahlia was staring up at him with big hazel eyes that matched her mother’s. She cooed at him before yawning.
“I’d be worn out too after that monstrosity you just let out.” Shanna said teasingly as she poked her little girl’s belly. Dahlia grinned a toothless smile before yawning a second time.
“I’m proud of you, princess.” Sweet Pea said suddenly. “I didn’t know brats could make such good mothers.” His tone turned teasing at the end.
Shanna’s eyes narrowed and she pulled on his earlobe, making him yelp in pain. “Jerk. I’m only a brat when you’re an ass. Besides, you enjoy it. Don’t try to deny it either because I’m not an idiot.”
The dark prince just laughed lightly, knowing it was true.
Meanwhile in what was the new wing for the King and Queen, Lily and Jughead sat with their son who had also just fallen asleep. “He’s so perfect.” Jughead said in a soft voice as to not wake the sleeping baby. “I can’t believe I helped create him.”
Lily was smiling at the swaddled bundle in her arms. “He has your eyes.” She commented, “the Jones’ blue eyes...I hope they don’t change when he gets older.”
Jughead grinned, “They won’t, trust me. All the men in my family have the same blue eyes...well, except for Sweet Pea but that’s because he’s adopted. Dahlia got Lav’s eyes anyway.”
The queen giggled lightly as she got up and gently placed Pax in his bassinet. “The prince who will finally bring peace to Riverdale...Do you think we expect too much of him?”
“Not any more than my father expected of me.” The new crowned king said honestly. “Once this war with Greendale is over then things should settle and be peaceful again. No other kingdoms are so gungho for war. The one-eyed queen is the last one trying to wreak havoc with her Gargoyles.”
Lily shook her head, “yes but now we’ll have the best Serpent army training our troops. We are twice as strong now. She won’t be able to even touch us. Especially with Sweet Pea leading them.”
Jughead was silent for a few moments. “I do worry what will happen when he goes into battle….”
She ran a hand through his thick hair, “we have to trust that he’ll be smart when he goes in. And pray that he stays safe. My sister would be devastated if anything were to happen to him. Dahlia deserves a father.”
“I know. That’s what concerns me. His temper or pride will blind him and he’ll get himself hurt or worse.” Jughead said, his face going stoic.
The queen shook her head, not wanting to discuss something so serious on their day off. “It’s his job, Jug. None of us have a choice. He’ll want to be out there anyway. You can’t stop him from doing what he loves.”
The king gave an exasperated sigh. “I know. He’s like a bull. At least his strategies are brilliant. Maybe that’ll be enough to keep him from getting himself killed.”
“We can only hope….”
Six months later the worst happened. Greendale finally made its move against Riverdale, attacking the border bases and cities. Jughead had no choice but to send Sweet Pea and his best troops to the front line. It was his duty, no matter how much Princess Shanna begged him to not make his brother go.
Dahlia was old enough to understand that her father was gone. What she didn’t understand was why. Shanna put on a brave face for her daughter but to be honest she spent most nights crying in her large bed alone. Lily did her best to be there and comfort her sister but she was so busy with her work that she didn’t have much time.
The unsung hero of the story was really Duke Mantle who helped Shanna immensely with both the children and keeping her head in a good place. Lily practically ordered him to keep her preoccupied so she didn’t dwell on thinking the worst.
The prince and princess wrote to each other as much as they could. Mail was slow getting to the front lines but letters from Princess Shanna were marked as the highest importance. While some of the older generals protested this, as they saw it as a distraction, Sweet Pea assured them that it was essential to keep up morale. Letters from home was the best way to do that.
Although, Sweet Pea quite regularly showed concern on how close Reggie and Shanna were getting. She had to keep reassuring him that it wasn’t like that in the slightest and to trust her. He’d always be her prince. She couldn’t even think of having that kind of relationship with Reggie again. The mere thought left a bad taste in her mouth.
The following week the letters stopped coming. Shanna waited day after day for just a single update on how her husband was fairing, but so far there was no news. At least none that had been released to her. She was almost certain that Jughead knew something and just wasn’t telling her. Hermes was in the stable the night before last on a return trip. This only meant that the king had gotten word from the frontlines.
During tea time that afternoon, Princess Shanna forced her way into the tea room with both babies in tow. “Jughead, I demand that you tell me what is going on!” The server in the room flinched at the casualness. The princess was giving orders to the king. The lack of proper etiquette was appalling.
“I don't understand what you’re talking about, Shanna.” The king said dismissively as he took another sip of her Earl grey.
She stomped her foot, “I know Hermes is in the stable as we speak! I know you’ve gotten news from the front. Tell me!” She demanded once more.
King Jughead was informal for the most part. At least, in the presence of family. Her accosting him in this way did not bother him in the slightest. Mostly because he knew she was worried sick about his brother and not because she was trying to be blatantly disrespectful. “Shanna, please. Sit down.”
Lily looked curiously between her sister and her husband, drinking a bit of her own white tea blend that was made special for the royal family. “Bring Pax here, I’ll hold him.” She said with a smile.
Shanna went around the table and deposited the prince before walking back around to take her seat, Dahlia perched on her lap with wide and curious eyes. She blinked at the adults around her before babbling something incoherent at Pax who merely cooed back.
Jughead took a deep breath before setting his cup down. “There was an ambush. The Gargoyles have mostly shifted to guerrilla warfare as Sweet Pea had suspected they would. Something happened about six days ago to cause the line of communication to nearly be cut.”
Princess Shanna bit her lip in anticipation, her heart sinking down into her stomach as she knew bad news was to come. Her eyes began to water in preparation. “Sweet Pea’s unit was attacked at night. The watchers were killed before they could raise the alarm. There were some devastating losses, however we were ultimately victorious.”
“And Pea?” She asked, growing impatient with him. He should have told her about this as soon as he found out!
“He was gravely injured. He just recently regained consciousness.” Jughead said, “but the doctors assure me he will make a full recovery. They are bringing him home now to recuperate while General Fogarty steps up to lead in his stead. I wanted it to be a surprise when he got here.”
At first, tears did fall. Sad tears over hearing that he had been hurt badly. However, they quickly turned to happy tears instead at the knowledge that he would be home soon. “How soon? When will he be home?”
The king smiled, “Tomorrow afternoon. I want him to get as much rest as possible and I need you to see to it that he doesn’t try to overdo it. He was very upset that he was being sent home.”
“Thank you so much, Jug.” Shanna said, still crying as she held Dahlia close to her chest. “I’m sorry I was yelling at you.”
Lily grinned, “it’s okay. We know how much stress you’re under. I would be lost if Jughead had to go off to war. Take all the time you need. I can keep Pax tomorrow so you can spend time with him.”
Her tears eventually stopped as she smiled back at her sister, “you’re the best, Lily. I love you both.”
Of course there were many, many, more tears when Sweet Pea finally arrived home the following day. Shanna nearly knocked him and his wheelchair over with excitement when she nearly jumped into his arms. The nurse pushing him had to stop her. “Princess, I’m sorry, he’s still very hurt.”
A worried look crossed her face before she leaned in and kissed him, gently at first until he pulled her into his lap on his own to deepen it. The nurse made a disapproving face at the two of them. “Your highness…”
“Let me kiss my wife, damn it.” He said back to the girl before hugging Shanna close to him. “Where’s my princess at?”
“She’s taking a nap, come on.” Shanna got off of him and took the wheelchair from the nurse. “I’ll take you to her.” She pushed him, struggling a little at first, “Christ you’re heavy.”
Sweet Pea rolled his eyes, “I don’t need help, I can do it myself.” He put his hands on the wheels and began to propel himself down the hallway.
That night, there was a family dinner in the dining hall. Sweet Pea talked about his more glorious battles, much to Shanna’s dismay. Hearing him in constant danger made her anxiety swell to an almost intolerable level.
Lily announced that Shanna’s program to provide care packages to the new parents of Riverdale (North and Southsides) would be in full effect within the week’s end. Everyone with a child under the age of one would be receiving guidebooks, equipment, toys, and more information on resources available to them in the event that they needed help with formula, baby food, diapers, wipes, and/or medical care. The support from the kingdom over this decree had been overwhelmingly positive, especially from the Southside who didn’t always have access to the programs that had been instilled on the Northside for several years now.
The previous king was alight with pride for his two daughters. This was the first major new social program implemented by the new regime and he couldn’t be happier. Former King Forsythe was also quite impressed with the whole thing. He knew that the families in his old kingdom would greatly benefit from this. It was nice to know that the place he strived to make a prosperous home for many was finally getting the second chance it deserved.
The war lasted for another three years, however Sweet Pea would come home after every four months or so to visit. He would stay with his wife and daughter for a couple months before leaving again. When the war had finally ended, Riverdale proved the winner as they beat back the Greendale forces until they had no man power or supplies left to feasibly continue their tirade. There were great losses on the Riverdale side as well, but not nearly to the same degree as Greendale.
Sweet Pea and the rest of the soldiers returned home for good, much to the joy and happiness of the families that had awaited them for so long. Sweet Pea, Shanna, and Dahlia moved to live in the castle in the Southside while Jughead, Lily, and Pax stayed in the North. They visited each other often and communicated almost daily. Despite the distance, the siblings were still incredibly close with one another.
And they all lived happily ever after.

Title: It’s just a nosebleed
Ship: Ander Munoz + Omar Shanaa (Omander)
_______________
Next time you faint I hope you smash your head and bleed to death.
The words resonated in Ander's mind, Guzman's voice colder every single times. They haunted Ander's mind days and nights, the only way to shut them up being to drink until oblivion. Cert, alcohol wasn't the way to numb pain, but Ander didn't care. He just couldn't bare to hear them over and over again.
Although he deserved it, losing his best friend has caused so much more pain in Ander's heart than he was willing to admit. Guzman was so much more than a best friend; he was a brother to him. But, brothers don't stab each other's back. Brothers don't hide huge secrets like that. Especially when it concerns one's sister assassin's identity.
He couldn't imagine the pain he had caused Guzman by not telling him the truth. How he must feel knowing that, for months, he had partied, shared a bed and gone to class with his sister's assassin like nothing had happened.
Ander hated Polo for telling him that ugly secret. He had commit utter betrayal by killing Marina. And, forcing Ander to secrecy, forcing him to take his secret to the grave, was the most cruel thing he could possibly do. Ander didn't want to know, he didn't want to be forced to know about Polo's crime. Yet, Polo's selfish self decided he had enough of carrying this secret alone - along with Carla and Christian - and told Ander.
Ander also hated himself for not having the balls to tell his best friend that their other best friend had killed Marina. He had chosen to play safe, trying to not lose any of them, but learned the hard way that playing safe isn't always the best choice. Now, because he had kept that same ugly secret to himself, Guzman had crossed him out of his life and there was no hope for forgiveness.
''I think you should slow down on the alcohol, don't you think?'' Omar suggested as he brought his intoxicated boyfriend home after his shift at the club, praying that Mrs. de Munoz was sound asleep.
She didn't know about her son's drinking problem. It would break her to see that Ander had turned to alcohol to cope.
Ander wasn't heavy, but Omar wasn't Mr. Muscle. It didn't help that he was half conscious, making him, by consequent, heavier. He was hanging on Omar's neck as the latter struggled to make it up the stairs. If only he could help himself a bit...
Omar sighed as he deposed Ander on his bed and removed his shoes. He was tired of this. He was Ander's boyfriend, not his babysitter.
As much as he wanted to talk to Ander about his drinking habits, he knew the younger one would deny any alcohol problems. But, at the same time, Omar couldn't continue keeping things bottled for both his and Ander's sake.
He'd be lying if he said seeing his boyfriend drowning himself into alcohol didn't hurt him. It broke his heart knowing that Ander was hurting so much that he had to numb his pain with alcohol.
A bittersweet smile on his lips, Omar sat on the edge of the bed and watched as Ander was sleeping soundly.
.
Ander sat behind his desk in class, filling his exam sheet when he felt something wet dripping on his face. Instinctively, he wiped it with the back of his hand and realized it was blood. He sniffled, thinking it would go away and stop, but, seconds later, blood started dripping on his exam sheet, creating a couple red splatters. Shit.
He alerted Mrs. Cortez of the bloody - pun intended - issue and she gave him permission to go to the bathroom to get tissues and clean himself.
Left hand covering his bleeding nose, Ander rose from his seat, the chair screeching on the tiled floor as he pushed it back. Maybe he stood up too fast or maybe it was because of the previous nosebleeds he got that week and the loss of blood was catching on him, but he suddenly started feeling light headed and drowsy. By reflex, he gripped the edge of the desk, fingers trying to grab at something to gain steadiness.
In the row behind his, Guzman lifted his head, furrowing his eyebrows at his old best friend's behavior. ''Ander?'' said Guzman's voice worriedly, ignoring the silence during exams rule. ''You okay?''
At the moment, Guzman didn't care that he and Ander weren't on speaking terms. He still cared about him deep down and, although he meant his words back then, seeing Ander on the verge of fainting had terrified him. When he had fainted at the Christmas party back in December, it was because of alcohol. Now, given that they were at school during exam week, it couldn't be that which worried Guzman.
Ander didn't have time to answer Guzman's concerns that the latter was reaching out for him, grabbing Ander before he could fall and hit his head.
.
As Mrs. de Munoz got in the ambulance with her son, Guzman did what felt right and called Omar, informing him of the incident. If something like that had happened to Nadia, he would've liked to know.
.
When Omar made it to the hospital, he saw Ander's mom in the hallway. She seemed surprised, but not shocked to see him. On the contrary, she would have been even more surprised if he hadn't showed up.
Omar had been living with them for six months now and Azucena had grown very fond of him. Unlike Ander, Omar was a better help to the house. He knew how to clean, do laundry and cook - with guidance. He also deeply cared about Ander and she could sense it. His presence at the hospital was a proof.
As soon as Omar saw her, he gave a her a tight hug, knowing that they both needed it right now. ''What happened? Is he okay?'' Omar demanded, a little in shock. He pulled back, trying to search in her eyes for reassurance.
''He gave us quite a scare.'' Azucena took a breath, trying to control her emotions. ''He got a nosebleed and fainted in class. The doctor said it's iron deficiency anemia. We'll know more when he gets back with the results.''
When he got the call from Guzman saying Ander had left in an ambulance, Omar hadn't been surprised. He knew that if Ander continued not taking care of himself, something would happen. And, it did.
''Is he okay?''
She nodded and smiled at him thinly. ''You can go see him.''
.
Hand on the handle, about to open the door, Omar paused. He didn't know what to expect. Hospitals were never good news. They always gave him an uneasy feelings in his stomach. The last time he came to the hospital, his father had a heart attack and, when he glanced at him in the bed, he didn't look well. He was attached to wires and tubes and Omar felt sick. Although Ander's situation was less dramatic, Omar couldn't help but imagine the worse.
Exhaling a breath, Omar pushed the door and walked in. The room was dimly lit, the curtains pulled to make it easier for Ander to rest.
Having heard the door open, the younger one turned his head and pulled his eyebrows. ''Omar?''
His face was pale and he looked exhausted. There was an IV attached to his arm, giving him nutrients he was lacking from his alcohol diet. A part of Omar wanted to scream at Ander 'I told you so', but another part just wanted to pull him in his arms and thank the sky that he was alive.
Ander wasn't expecting to see Omar here. He thought he could get off easy and somehow hide this trip to the hospital from him, pass it off as some stomach bug. But, now that he was here, there was no point in lying. Omar had enough shit going on, the last thing he wanted was to get his mind preoccupied with this.
''Who told you I was here?'' he asked. ''I thought you were working today.''
Omar approached his bedside, huffling a small laugh. ''You're gonna have difficulty believing me, it's Guzman.''
Ander frowned, having difficulty to believe him. ''What? Guzman? I...'' He shook his head, denying the information he wasn't capable to process. ''Why would Guzman do that? He doesn't even care about me anymore...'' The last words caused Ander's voice to frail a little.
There was no way that Guzman would've cared. He made that clear when he spoke those cruel words to him the day they arrested Polo. As cruel as they were, Ander knew that he deserved them. He didn't deserve his friendship, he didn't even deserve Omar. He was such a shitty person, a shitty son, a shitty friend, a shitty boyfriend-
The heart monitor was starting to act up, the line making rapid jumps as Ander was getting worked up. Seeing this, Omar sat on the edge of the bed and cupped Ander's face with the other, fingers grazing his curls. ''Ander? Ander, look at me.''
If he didn't calm him quickly, a nurse would come in.
The younger one's eyes finally looked up, gazing into Omar's. ''Ander, baby...'' Omar held his gaze, trying to prevent his mind from going back to what he was thinking, what got him worked up.
Once Omar felt like Ander had calmed down, he sat on the small chair beside the bed.
''Do you know when you're getting out?'' he asked, changing subject.
''Hopefully soon. It'll depends of the test results.''
Omar nodded. ''I talked with your mom. She said there's a high possibility you have iron-deficiency anemia. I knew those nosebleed were serious. Especially when happening so frequently...'' He pushed his face in his hands, blaming himself.
Ander reached out, putting his hand over his boyfriend's forearm. ''You couldn't have known, Omar-''
''I should've worried more! Fuck. I could've prevented this if I hadn't left you drink so much alcohol.''
''Anemia has nothing to do with the drinking. I have a high carence in iron.''
''Still. Alcohol mustn't be good for you. Especially at the pace and frequency you're drinking.''
Ander looked down, admitting defeat.
Omar had kept his mouth shut for so long, but he had enough. What happened today scared him and he felt partly responsible for the incident. Maybe if he had spoke up instead of carrying Ander to his room every nights, he wouldn't have fainted in class.
''I get that you're hurt and sad because you lost your best friend, but life doesn't end because a friendship is broken. You've got to take care of yourself, Ander. I get that you lost an important person, but I'm here, and your mom is too. Don't you think it's hurting us to see you destroy your health? I haven't told your mom about your drinking habits, and I'm not going to, but I think you should reflect on it. I don't think she'd like to find out that her son is turning into an alcoholic.''
Ander's features hardened, jaw clenching at the harsh word. ''I'm not an-''
''You are! Alcoholics drinks every day and, since Christmas, there's not a day I haven't seen you without a drink in hand.'' Omar sighed, gaining control of his emotions. He didn't want to scream at Ander, he just wanted to get his point across. ''I'm not telling you this to hurt you. I'm telling you this because I care about you. Because I love you and I wouldn't forgive myself if something were to happen to you because I didn't intervene when it was still time.''
Omar's words put Ander into deep thinking. He didn't realize what was happening - not to this extent. He knew he was drinking more than he should've, but not this much. Maybe Omar was right. Maybe he was an alcoholic. The possibility brought tears to his eyes. Fuck. He can't fall into that rabbit hole. His parents had just finished signing the divorce papers, he couldn't do that to his mom. She had been through enough.
''I...I'm sorry. I didn't realize what I was doing. I just kept drinking and didn't think of the side effects of alcohol binge. I just liked not thinking about anything, forgetting the shit happening in my life,'' Ander explained, ashamed of himself.
Omar reached out and grabbed his hand, showing support. ''I know, but don't you think it's time to try another solution? Instead of trying to numb your mind to forget the sad stuff, why don't you focus on the happier stuff? Do things that make you happy to forget about the sad stuff.''
Ander nodded, liking the idea. ''Like what, though? I don't know if you've noticed, I don't have friends anymore.'' He let out a dry laugh.
''You have me,'' Omar reminded, nudging him. ''I could take a night off every week and watch movies together instead of going out? Or we could get dinner, just the two of us?''
''Netflix and chill?''
Omar snorted, cheeks flushed. Of course, that's what he's thinking about. ''If you want.''
''I'd like that. But, I don't want you to take days off for me. You need the money-''
Rolling his eyes, Omar sighed. ''One night off won't cut me that much money, Ander. And, you've been there for me when my father kicked me out, it's my turn to be there for you.''
Fair.
For a relationship to be healthy, one can't just give, give, give and never take. You have to accept your partner's help and stop thinking you're a bother. Omar wouldn't have offered to take a day off to spend time with him if he hadn't genuinely wanted to.
The curly haired one sighed. ''Okay.''
''What movie do you want to watch first? Your body is still weak from the blood loss and fainting, you should take it chill tonight.''
Ander nodded. ''It's been so long since we spent a night just the two of us. I miss it.'' He bit his lip, glancing at his boyfriend.
''I miss it too.''
Omar stood from his chair, reading Ander's mind, and leaned for a kiss that quickly became inappropriate for hospitals. Hands slid on each other's body as tongues slipped in, almost forgetting where they were.
A squeal escaped Omar's lips when Ander's hand squeezed his ass through the denim fabric, taking him by surprise. He broke the kiss, narrowing his eyes. ''What are you doing?! We're at the hospital. Your mom is right on the other side of that door.''
Ander shrugged, laughing.

AWAE 3x06 Commentary
Matthew’s Radish ❤️❤️
Anne has a cold and she’s baking a cake. . .uh oh (for context in the books she tries to bake a cake for the minister’s wife at tea but she puts liniment flavoring instead of vanilla because of a cold).
Wow her hair is so glossy and the loose braids are 😘
Is Matthew going to have a heart attack ....oh no
Holy **** that radish is huge
She smashed the vanilla and yes they’re definitely going the book storyline.
No Anne please ask someone to smell the bottle 😣
I live for Bash sass.
Okay so I’m like a little bit whiplashed here. Last episode we saw Gilbert just suggesting winnie visit. How have they been communicating? Have they been on that many tea dates? It seems like they only saw each other four or five times after their first “date”. But I guess it’s been two months since then.
“But your mother wasn’t skittish” I’m dead.
No he hasn’t settled on Winnie. Does this mean Bash knows about Anne? She’s “easy to be with” okay I guess it makes sense Gilbert is stressed about constantly feeling things for Anne.
“Fond enough to marry her?” Bash literally slipped that in because Gilbert was talking about marriage last week.
“Winifred doesn’t have such expectations” dude you’re meeting her parents in the 1890s of course she does.
Gilbert you literally were considering marriage last week.
Josie doesn’t want to create a scandal yet her mother seems to be pushing her to it??
Anne crying over Mary my heart it can’t ❤️❤️❤️
Poor Anne is so flustered because she wants to not look like a mess in front of her crush. So relatable.
Gilbert, do you see any onions???
It’s interesting they showed this scene between Gilbert and Matthew when we barely have their interactions. Gilbert is denying it’s a special occasion when we’ve just seen him freaking out about his appearance.
The framing of Anne by the window is gorgeous. Also this episode seems designed the humiliate Anne every way possible.
Why is she sneaking out to go to Diana’s??
She’s going to confess to Diana isn’t she. This seems like really fast development for Anne who has recently been like I am the Bride of Adventure.
Yikes Minnie May overhearing this and finding Jerry’s gift.
I think it’s interesting and important (because even though I’m sure this episode will be painful) Anne’s crush is very much romanticized and infatuated. While I’m unsure about her realizing her feelings this early, the comparison to Mr. Darcy, the reference to novels seems in character even if the fact it’s Gilbert is sudden.
Can someone make a gif set of all the Cuthberts straightening up in front of a mirror.
Wow Anne really jumped to daisies. I definitely feel like they’re trying to do the whole dramatic teenager I LOVE THIS BOY AND WANT TO SPEND MY LIFE WITH HIM angst rather than set up her real love for him yet.
THE FOAL IS SO CUTE ❤️
Dellie and Bash ❤️ also oh my goodness he was knitting yellow socks for her.
Noooo Gilbert don’t belittle yourself. You’re an orphan and are incredible. Anne’s an orphan and she is too.
“can’t cook”.
How has Anne recovered from her cold this fast also?
They’re definitely going up in the hot air balloon.
Subtle reminder Ka’kwet is still in hell and we need to get her out.
There’s a stiltswalker. I literally wrote that into my fanfic.
I’m so scared about this cake but at least it will look beautiful.
Wow Rachel not making me mad for once ❤️
What is this ear pulling Matthew?
Also omg the white grub reference I can’t get over the throwback.
The fortuneteller and the smoke haha. I feel like this Anne would have more sense than to believe in fortune telling though?? I agree the daisy was more helpful but this is clearly just meant to amplify Anne’s infatuation.
It’s interesting that they spent so much time on how the fortune teller is clearly a fraud.
Diana please pay attention to and comfort Anne.
Aghhh I clowned myself I was right Diana was leaving because of something related to Jerry’s family but also they made Anne look this devastated over Winnie.
Also ugh it’s such a trope to have her see Gilbert help Winnie when she stumbles.
But also the handkerchief book signaling Derry thing was so well done.
The Rachel/Stacy development has been interesting also wow the shooting.
It’s interesting we have Prissy who is super feminist and advanced, Billy who’s a sexist pig, and Jane who is still figuring things out.
Wait so Mrs. Barry and Winnie are the only two people I’ve seen with parasols. I’m guessing it’s a status symbol? Something only rich people carry?
I hope Minnie May has her own storyline. She does reappear in a later episode.
DIANA A QUEEN I LOVE I SCREAMED. THEY KISSED.
But I feel like we definitely will see some sort of rift/problem given how fast this has been accelerating.
Also the musical theme for them (which also played during the scene by Diana’s house where Jerry quotes Frankenstein) is so so beautiful
No, Anne don’t go back to the fortuneteller.
Why is Gilbert so condescending about Queens? Also he’s not admitting that the Sorbonne is a dream because of money. Instead it’s the impression he thinks he won’t get in.
I’m learning so much about Winifred’s dad and yet I still know nothing about her. I hate when characters are so one dimensional.
“Can we PLEASE just enjoy the day” paralleling Gilbert earlier saying he’s just going to try and enjoy the day
What is this ear pulling thing we have now seen Matthew, Jack, Thomas Lynde, and Nigel Rose do.
Why do Gilbert and Mr. Rose pronounce Sorbonne so differently?
Couple points on Winnie. She seems to represent the part of Gilbert that was never content with the small town life and now also the part of him that is tired of fighting with Anne. So she really has been boiled down to whether he will choose an easy life with connections but no fire or Anne who makes his life incredibly complicated but extremely lovely.
Also it was interesting that they again paralleled Winnie stumbling with Josie stumbling earlier this season. (Post episode addendum her Mr. Bones scene weirdly foreshadowed Josie’s situation)
I swear Gilbert just visibly hesitated to introduce them to Bash. Also they really are making them out to be the perfect family which rings the alarm bells that either they are not or all they’re meant to do is be a foil for Gilbert’s current life/affections.
Okay it seems really extreme to have Anne call Gilbert her true love. Like I get they are trying to emulate teenagers but Anne is not like this and we already did this with Ruby.
“I want to believe you that it was true that someone could look at me that way. I never even dared to hope before” this hurts so much because we have seen how much Gilbert adores Anne. But also it hurts because Anne has just been able to accept family love and shes been told her whole life no one will ever want her. I’m crying.
But also I think it’s very important that this is a very idealized crush and is definitely emulating teenage fancies and the real realization from Anne will be much different.
I love all the eye/I puns and how this fortune teller goes against herself and decides to comfort Anne because Anne is just endearing like that. I think we’re supposed to simultaneously feel Anne’s pain while also being amused at the melodrama
Oh no they’re really doing this with the cakes.
Your schoolmate Gilbert? Really??? At least say she’s a friend.
I know they’re trying to make Winnie seem really nice but it’s strange she asks how Anne spells her name. It’s like it’s meant to add more weight to the visual way in which we see Anne comparing herself to Winnie.
Bash is so amused by the Winifred Anne meeting. I guess it’s also important Gilbert has told Bash about Winnie but still keeps his feelings for Anne a secret (even though they aren’t)
This cake thing bothers me so much. There was no need to take a relatively funny book scene, humiliate Anne in front of a large group of people and add to the already massive embarrassment she feels by having Gilbert and Winifred both be there. This episode just really was out to get Anne
Hmm so I think it’s definitely telling that Gilbert’s automatic instinct was to run after Anne to comfort her and he definitely looks upset when she runs off but I also don’t think he was super helpful. He clearly doesn’t get why she’s upset and also Mary would’ve been more likely to run after Anne and console her. I miss Mary.
Anne no ❤️ she’s hiding under the exhibit she was looking at with such wonder earlier.
Really? They couldn’t even let Matthew win. This is an adorable adorable scene between them though.
Matthew, Marilla how do neither of you realize Anne is upset because Gilbert is walking around with a super high class, beautiful girl.
The music when they get into the balloon is the same as Anne visiting Ka’kwet the first time + Gilbert taking the flower + Derry walking home the first time = new adventures?
Marilla on point “we are literally going to hell in a hand basket” “before I die, fly”
Yes Anne embracing her uniqueness ❤️
This is the most beautiful and joyous scene this episode and the music is excellent (ive definitely heard it’s before but I don’t remember which episodes). Well it plays when Marilla and Rachel head off to the oculist and Marilla tells Anne not to get into trouble
It’s beautiful seeing how Matthew and Marilla have grown due to Anne. This balloon ride is like symbolic of their relationship.
Passing over the first part of the dance scene which is clearly just an inverted love triangle from the last episode . .though Gilbert does look over at Anne after the dance ends...he also looks uncomfortable in certain shots with Winnie
I guess also “Seems like you’ve done this before” “I can’t hear you” parallels the first tea scene a bit.
I’m frustrated Ruby is basically the exact same just with a different boy who I guess at least shows interest in her
Also Anne dancing with Charlie >.<
It’s really effective that the scene with Billy and Josie is outside in the dark compared to the bright barn but also that you can hear the dance music and it seems garish and grotesque. Also FUCK BILLY ANDREWS.
Props to Anne for noticing something is off :-/
They do a good job portraying how rumors are spread fast and also twisted because it goes to people saying they saw billy and Josie
Hit him Anne HIT HIM . . .okay I guess I’m satisfied with yelling. Also I would like to point out everyone else looks shocked and confused.
I guess I understand why the other girls don’t get it given their different experiences but SIGHS. Also Diana constantly freaking out about Jerry when no one knows what she’s talking about
No Gilbert this is important
Okay but Anne’s references. Whose CABBAGE IS BIGGER. You don’t need a CRYSTAL BALL. Clearly salty about the fortuneteller and Matthew’s loss.
Oof she’s clearly jealous but also angry for her friend and I get that Gilbert doesn’t like being yelled at but also for him to just shake his head as if this is a normal Anne tantrum
Peep Gilbert looking back at Anne twice
Moody the mediator. I like the effect of everyone’s voices blurring together and fading
YES ANNE ACTIVIST WRITING but also im so scared about the potential backlash. I really hope they treat this story carefully because I’m so worried about Josie and Anne now and so so mad at Billy

The Adventures of Todd and Granny
(Alternatively: “I Saw Granny Ethel with the Devil”)
Part I | Part II | Part III | Part IV | Part V
Luck
The first time this colorful group entered the town’s local bingo hall, it hadn’t been the best of days.
The host had difficulties overcoming Todd the Demon’s hulking presence and couldn’t call out numbers without shaking and stuttering, and eventually just ran from the building altogether mid-game with a gaggle of players right behind him, and there’s no playing bingo when there’s no one else around.
There still aren’t any other players around when the group decides to drop by today.
But the new host is blind as a bat save for whatever is a foot directly in front of him and he drones on without a care, calling out numbers without lifting his eyes from the computer screen that lotteries out the next. And the next. And the next.
Now, it’s the final round of the day.
Todd, sitting at the small round table that seats four (and only four, in the center of the large room with a dozen other abandoned tables around it), holds the tiny card marker in his large claws, stamping down a neon green dot on B-5—the only successful spot on his card, so far, in any round.
Granny Ethel, though, is on fire. Only two diagonal squares away from her third solid BINGO and focusing intently, awaiting the host to call out O-8 and I-23 so she can claim that nice floral area rug sitting pretty on the grand prize table.
Sam and Todd have already agreed between themselves to help Granny Ethel get whichever prizes she wants if they happen to get a BINGO first.
Her only obstacle in this is Theodore—who only needs one more space to land his second BINGO for the day. Unlike Granny Ethel, his eyes are set on a shiny new tablet and he’s intent on claiming it.
Of course it’s all randomized and comes down to luck, but he could do a little better to be a team player. Especially after the lawnmower incident.
Todd could be mistaken, but he doesn’t think he is—Theodore has yet to earnestly apologize to Granny Ethel, and almost an entire month has gone by since then. Honestly. It’s as if he thinks everyone will forget if he just never brings it up again and it will all go away. Well—the salvaged lantana cuttings are sprouting speckled orange and yellow, at least, but it will take a while before they can be transplanted and grow back to their full glory again.
Maybe Todd will be lenient, and give Theodore until then to deliver said apology.
Maybe not.
Granny Ethel gives a little cheer as the next number called lands her another spot on her diagonal almost-BINGO. One more to go!
The same number is on Sam’s card, too, but he’s dozing off and already dropped the card marker back onto the table. Todd nudges aside one of his brown arms and puts a green dot on the center top row for him. He’s closer to a BINGO than Todd is.
The caller clears his throat, taking a moment to cough hoarsely into a polka-dotted handkerchief—then cough again, and once more, before squinting down at the computer screen and doling out the next number.
“Oh! Bingo! Bingo!” Granny Ethel yells, shooting up from her seat and waving her card in the air, moving faster than Todd has ever seen her move (she does, really and truly, get absorbed in the competition).
Her shout rouses Sam from his nap and he sits up, rubbing at his eyes. “Nice job, Granny. That flower carpet is totally yours. Hope it fits in the car, though… Well, if it doesn’t, we can just walk and carry it home for you.”
A big, happy smile spreads across her face as she shimmies around the table and darts forward to the host with card in hand, moving so fast she’s a blue blur in her loose, long-skirted lilac-print dress.
Theodore crosses his arms and pouts, huffing an extremely audible sigh. Always a sore loser, that one.
But, well, it’s their final game of the week, and it’s only fitting that Granny Ethel’s win ends it. The host approves her BINGO and waves her along to the prize table, where she collects her new floral rug in her arms with an elated, toothy smile. It’s a bit much for her to carry, taller even than the white poofs of hair on her head, so Todd holds out his hands and she passes the bundle over to him with thanks.
“Oh, this will look just lovely in my bedroom!” she says brightly, hands clasped together as she shuffles along beside him. “Sam, dear, do you think we have time to redecorate before you give us all a macramé lesson?”
“Definitely! There’s always time to help you out, Granny.” Sam nods pleasantly as they approach his car, which beeps as he unlocks it with his key fob. “I don’t think I’ve seen your room before. It’s the one at the back of the house, right?” He pops the trunk and looks over his shoulder at the carpet in Todd’s hands, and nods again. “Yep; it’ll fit.”
“That’s right. I’m afraid it’s become a bit cluttered—I don’t even let Todd clean it on chore days.”
“No way—Granny, are you a hoarder?”
“Haven’t you seen her house?” Theodore grunts as Todd’s sharp elbow bumps into him, but all he does is roll his eyes in response and skulk to his usual place in the back seat of Sam’s old, half-painted, half-sanded sedan from a year Todd isn’t even sure he remembers. Not bothering to help.
Well, that’s typical Theodore.
Todd finagles the rolled-up carpet into the trunk space, making sure not to crumple or cram it, careful not to upset Sam’s menagerie of old sneakers, a lumpy gym bag, and pile of wadded-up shirts, and closes the trunk securely over it all, satisfied. Then he escorts Granny Ethel to the other side of the car and helps her climb into the back seat opposite her grandson.
He’d let her take shotgun, but there are only a few places he can rightly fit in the small car, and that just so happens to be the front passenger seat. It’s low enough that he only has to hunker down and bow his head and horns just so that they don’t scrape the top and not uncomfortably fold himself up like he would in the back.
Ah, if only Sam had a convertible.
Thankfully, the bingo hall isn’t too far from Granny Ethel’s house—nothing is, really, in this small town, where the edge is only a ten minute car ride in any direction, but when they travel in such a large group, and when Sam offers, some days it’s just easier to drive. Especially when the grey clouds hanging overhead droop and sag, heavy with rain ready to fall at any moment.
(Sometimes Granny Ethel’s bones ache on days like this, too—she never says it, but they all know.)
They hurry into the house, with bingo prize in hand, and Granny Ethel’s first stop is the kitchen, because everyone is parched and in need of a celebratory midday snack. She and Todd had mixed up a nice pitcher of peach tea the day before, and it’s just wonderful on ice, garnished even with tiny lemon slices on the glass rims. That morning, Sam brought iced donuts along, and half of the box still remains for snack time.
Todd tucks the rolled-up rug safely into a corner and sits down to enjoy a chocolate-iced donut while Granny Ethel chatters on about which TV programs they’re set to watch today, and about how she’s always considered trying macramé but just never had the chance. Sam, though, is a pro, and has been practicing it since his mom taught him when he was young. Apparently he is a master at weaving hanging basket cradles for plants.
Theodore, sitting crammed between Todd and Sam’s broad shoulders (though one set broader than the other) broods in silence, barely touching even a single rainbow sprinkle on his pink-frosted donut. Barely touching his peach iced tea.
The small, round kitchen table has become quite cramped with their new population.
Moving through the halls is just as cramped, now, with two fully-grown men and a hulking demon trying to make their way through. It doesn’t help that the hallways are narrow, but at least the bedrooms are bigger and easier to navigate.
Granny Ethel’s room is the largest in the house. Quaint and cozy, with a full-sized bed set against the center of the far wall, between two curtained, arched windows.
And hanging above said bed, on said wall, is a sight Todd thought he’d seen the last of: the old, rusted scythe from the back yard.
Hung up like a trophy, or a prized possession even—only, it’s no longer rusted. It’s clean and polished, with its metal blade shining under the ceiling light, sharp and dangerous as a new cutlery knife. Totally out of place among the knitted and crocheted throw blankets and covered pillows and tapestries and embroideries dotted around the room. Completely out of place among the precious miniature porcelain trinkets crammed along the tops of dressers and shelves, and the decorative plates lining the highest shelves up near the ceiling.
It draws all of their attention except Granny Ethel’s, who doesn’t seem to mind, who overlooks it as another decoration among many.
“I think that rug will look just wonderful in the center of the room, don’t you think, dears?” She perches daintily on the edge of her bed, one hand on her lower back, and smiles at the space of carpet in front of her slippered feet. “The florals match the wallpaper!”
Todd meets Sam’s eyes for a moment, and the message passes through despite the communication barrier, though at times Todd thinks Sam has telepathy for how in-tune he is to most of his thoughts.
But now, the thought is plain as day. Theodore’s eyes, gleaming with that strange little light that mean he’s plotting, always plotting, linger on that scythe for an uncomfortable stretch of time, and though they’d both agreed to keep a close eye on the man, they decide to keep an even closer watch on him while in this room.
“They do match, Granny,” Sam agrees with a little smile, taking one end of the rolled-up rug to help Todd set it down on the floor. “That’s some theme you’ve got going on in here.”
“Charles picked out the florals. I wasn’t always so fond of them, you know. He brought so much color and beauty into my life, and now I can’t bear to get rid of it…” She toys with the fine, silver band around her left ring finger, eyes looking far, far away, seeing something other than the two men and one demon through her thick lenses.
It isn’t often she speaks of Charles, and they all, every one of them, know better than to bring up the subject. It’s an unspoken rule that only Granny Ethel is allowed to speak of him.
The little floral area rug fits perfectly on the floor, not covering too much, not covering too little. None of the edges hit the bed or the dresser, but they do curl up from being rolled for so long. Todd stamps his hooves on the ends to flatten them down—and it works better than steam roller.
Sam brushes his hands clean of imaginary dust, job well done, and claps. “Alright! How’s that look, Granny?”
“Oh, it’s perfect! Thank you so much for helping, dears. It’s such a lovely design I might just have to find a matching one for the sitting room. The one we have there now is looking a bit threadbare these days. But I digress. Today is a macramé day! Oh, I’ve never done that kind of craft before. What are we making?”
“I was thinking we could make hanging baskets for the lantanas. Y’know, before we transplant them back into the garden. I brought rope and beads and all kinds of stuff to make some cool hangers! Plenty of black for you, too, Todd.”
And so, they continue their day by learning macramé, courtesy of Sam and his unexpected talents.
It’s when night falls, when all are safely tucked away in bed (Sam included, because it’s the weekend, and weekends allow for sleepovers Granny Ethel is more than enthusiastic to host, because she’d missed having a full house), that Todd realizes Theodore had snuck away at some point during their weaving lessons—even just for a bathroom break, letting him out of their sight was a mistake.
Now, certainly, he’s snoozing away at the top of the bunk bed they share, and Sam is tucked away in the far corner of the room with a plushy sleeping bag, but all jolt awake when a thump and a startled cry ring out through the house.
Todd is the first to reach her room. He hesitates at the closed door, just for a split-second, if only to steel himself for what he might see (because that scythe did look stable, where it hung, but what if—what if someone did something to it and—?) before barreling through it with every ounce of bravery he possesses.
The scythe had fallen.
Its sharp tip lay embedded in the soft pillows where Granny Ethel’s head most certainly might have rested, once. Cut right through, as easy as a hot knife sinks through butter.
“Granny—!” Sam gasps out.
But Granny Ethel’s head is not there—and neither is her body. In fact, she’s standing safe and sound, with both hands pressed against her mouth, just beside the bed. Fully intact. Safe.
Safe.
“Oh,” she pauses, hands falling away from her face, but hovering in front of it, still, before falling to her heart. “I was certain I’d placed it up on that wall securely.” She blinks, eyes moving from the fallen scythe to the brackets on the wall—one of which had snapped off and lay useless on top of the soft and numerous blankets covering her bed—then to the three gathered at the door, two mostly concealed behind Todd’s large body.
Todd doesn’t waste a moment. His hand finds the back of Theodore’s neck, grips his shirt collar, and he propels him forward, into the room like a badly behaved animal made to stand before its mistake.
“I didn’t—” he starts to say, squirming like a kitten held by the scruff of its neck, feet barely touching the ground, but Todd won’t hear it. He drops him heavy to the floor and points at the scene, eyes livid, feeling a bubbling, frothing rage that heated him like the fire and brimstone of hell—for the first time in quite a while.
“I-I really didn’t do it!” Theodore hisses, shrinking in on himself as Todd’s hulking form blocks the exit, and Granny Ethel’s small form boxes him on from the other side. “I—”
She clears her throat before anything more could be said.
“Dears,” she says in her soft voice, and no matter how soft it is, it always catches their attention as clear as a blaring horn. She leaves it at that, for a moment, as they all three freeze and look to her, obedient, watching as she picks up the scythe by its handle and eases it out of the downy feathers and cotton, holding it between her fingers like it’s made of delicate glass.
“You never have to worry about me. You see, I am blessed with incredible luck. Please, go on back to bed. I’ll take care of this.” A small, serene smile crosses her face—as kind as any of the others, but hiding something underneath.
Something like a secret Todd knows he has to uncover before anything like this ever happens again.
#Todd and granny#original#original writing#it really has been a while so thanks for waiting patiently!#hope you enjoy the latest installment to the series

Just Once IV: Distant Friends
Rutara wasn’t fond of parties, if she was really being honest. She found most court parties to be stuffy, stifling affairs, and if she could have left without making some kind of political slight, she probably would have. Most of the time, anyway. Zelda was her best friend besides her brother, so she would make exceptions for her. After all, misery loves company.
At the moment, she was wearing a dress that was some sort of bizarre hybrid of Hylian high fashion and the distinct lack conventional clothing of the Zora. A fitted bodice and an open-front, sheer skirt. Its only positive point was that it accented her deep purple scales. She hated it, and made a great show of complaining about it while lying sprawled on Zelda’s gigantic bed.
Zelda had laughter in her voice when she said “Why don’t you just leave it here then and wear your sash?”
Rutara rolled over and rested on her elbows as she faced her friend. Thank goodness whoever designed this crazy garment at least had enough sense to cut the sleeves short enough to let her fins free. “Some suitor or other commissioned it for me. Father said I had to at least wear it once. Apparently it’s supposed to be wearable on land and in the water,” she gave a sharp smile, “We’ll see how it holds up hunting tomorrow.”
Zelda turned from her jewelry box, holding up two pairs of earrings and grinning. “I can already see you ‘accidentally’ ripping it on coral. Now, green or blue?”
Rutara looked Zelda up and down, contemplating. “Blue. They make your eyes look brighter.” She rolled onto her back again, reached out, and plucked a small chocolate off of the tray sitting on Zelda’s bed. “So,” she said around the candy in her mouth, “Who all is comin’ to this shindig?”
Zelda slumped forward and groaned. “The usual. Labrynnian delegates, the Holodrum royals, representatives from the major tribes of Hyrule—“
“Oh yeah, is the red-head coming?”
Zelda’s spine went rigid as her eyes widened. Rutara hadn’t meant to put her on edge with that question, but she had. “I… haven’t heard from him since his last letter, just before his coronation.”
“You didn’t go?” Rutara asked holding her arm up and inspecting her nails.
“Did you pay attention when we had to learn about the other Hyrulean cultures?” Zelda said with a hand on her hip, “Gerudo ceremonies are sacred and closed to outsiders.”
The Zora on her bed squinted and dropped her arm back to the bed. “Lame.”
Zelda sighed a bit, and turned back to her vanity. “Besides,” she spat bitterly, “I’m still not allowed to enter the desert. Even after Impa agreed to go with me, Father won’t let me go.”
Rutara hummed as she sat up and moved to get off the bed. She glanced towards Zelda’s balcony as she heard the telltale sound of hooves meeting the cobblestone of the road outside. “Fun topic time,” she said as she grabbed the tray of candy and then walked over to place a hand on Zelda’s shoulder. “Let’s watch the attendees come so we can make fun of their outfits while they can’t hear us.”
The Hylian princess allowed herself to relax as she laughed a bit, snatching one of the chocolates from the tray. “Deal.”
—
Ganondorf had honestly meant to write sooner, to tell his friend about everything that had happened since his coronation. However, there was a lot to cover, and he simply hadn’t had the time to devote to letters that he had in his youth. Suddenly being completely and utterly in charge of trade, guard schedules, diplomatic relations, training guidelines, and problem solving for his tribe had taken some getting used to, but he believed he was falling into stride. And, praise Din, the dark whispers from his childhood were less frequent when he threw himself into his work for his people.
Riding in his carriage, he held the formal invitation to Zelda’s party that was enclosed with her last letter. It had been about three months since she had written to him. Hopefully she would understand. Hopefully he wouldn’t cause too much of a stir at the party.
It had been ten years since he last set foot in Hyrule castle, and he and Aela hadn’t stayed long enough for Ganondorf to remember much of it. He and Aela both remembered being cold in the summer, so she had taken great lengths to have warmer clothing tailored for a winter celebration. He had been miserable when he first set out from the desert, but now he was thankful for the layers and furs his caretaker had procured. He would have to apologize for his whining later.
As he stepped out of the carriage, he marveled at the light dusting of snow in the courtyard. Everything glittered slightly in the light of the obscene number of torches lit throughout the castle grounds. He took a deep breath and did his best to look relaxed and non-threateneing.
Still, the guards stiffened a bit as he approached. Ganondorf did his best to ignore the dark, indignant voice in the back of his mind as he showed his invitation.
—
“Oh! Oh! Ten o’clock!” Rutara exclaimed, elbowing Zelda, “Councilman Idris is wearing that dreadful hat from last year!”
The two girls descended into laughter as they gawked at the feathery monstrosity said councilman paraded around in. Zelda leaned forward a bit before pointing sharply at an approaching carriage. “Ten rupees says the Holodrum prince is wearing pink and green again,”
Rutela snorted. “He wore that at Rilan’s coming-of-age in summer,” she said, remembering her brother’s own party. “I say it’s purple and orange this time.”
As Zelda kept an eye on the Holodrum carriage, Rutara noticed another just entering the castle’s outer gate. As it rolled into the main grounds, She could just barely make out a seal she wasn’t as familiar with. She knew she had seen it before, and she mentally cycled through the tribes of Hyrule before it finally clicked in her mind.
“Called it!” Zelda exclaimed beside her, causing the Zora to jump. Indeed, the prince of Holodrum appeared to be in costume as a moldy wildberry, however Rutara had something else on her mind.
“C’mon!” Rutara said, grabbing Zelda’s wrist and half-dragging the Hylian princess off the balcony. Zelda stumbled as her friend pulled her, offering some— but not much—resistance.
“Where? Why—“ Zelda tried to form a proper question, but it was a bit hard with an energetic Zora weaving around her furniture and out to the hall.
“Trust me!”
—
The main hall of the castle was definitely the focal point of the party that night. The pillars, staircases, and railing of the balcony were bedecked in evergreen. Hundreds of lanterns had been strung throughout the space, and chandeliers blazed brightly. Everything was cast with a golden glow. This, coupled with a small group of court musicians playing cheery tunes, gave the hall a warm, comfortable atmosphere. Between two large staircases, space had been designated as a dance floor. The remainder of the space was filled with people, some sitting at tables and others walking around and mingling. Soft music from a string quartet filled the space above the idle chatter of guests.
Ganondorf tried to ignore the gawking stares as he made his way into the main hall. This was complicated by the fact that he was intently looking around for Zelda, despite having no idea how she had changed in the ten years since they last saw each other. A handful of the other guests would attempt to be friendly with the Gerudo king, however it was easy to see the fear in their eyes.
From the balcony above, Ganondorf just barely caught a flash of royal purple followed by blue and gold. He tried to focus on said flash, but it quickly wove through the crowds both on the upper floor and the staircase, so he made his way closer to where the flash was headed, hoping to see it better.
—
Rutara, it seemed, was as adept at swimming through crowds as she was through water. At least thrice, Zelda would’ve lost the Zora had either of them not maintained an iron grip on the other.
Despite some indignation at being dragged around like this at her own birthday ball, Zelda couldn’t help but smile as her friend led her through small breaks in the crowds. It almost seemed like a complicated dance as they read the movements of the people around them to find gaps in the throng.
As soon as they reached the bottom of the stairs, Rutara suddenly stopped. Once Zelda’s momentum carried her passed her friend, the Zora shoved her even farther forward. Zelda laughed and turned back towards her friend. “Ruta—!” she called in mock-indignation.
Rutara simply smirked, pointed ahead of where she had shoved Zelda, and dashed off again.
Oh.
—
Oh.
It had been about ten years since he had seen her. Whenever Ganondorf had pictured Zelda, she had started that sweet six-year-old. As they wrote to each other and grew, he started envisioning how he thought she looked. He pictured her closer to the height of his cousins, but maybe a bit more delicate. Still, how he thought of her still tended to skew younger. But the young woman in front of him?
She’s beautiful.
She was a picture of grace. A goddess given mortal form.
He heard a dark chuckle. You’re not entirely wrong.
Just for tonight, the young king thought, let me be.
—
He had grown taller than she expected. His fiery red hair was pulled back by the traditional Gerudo headpiece. Even through the finery he wore, Zelda could see he had grown strong as well. However not everything had changed, his eyes were still that soft gold, even if they looked a bit harder than they had when they were children.
She had changed too. Ganondorf saw she held herself with a grace that hadn’t existed in their childhood. Delicate, but wise. She held a power different than his, but just as strong.
For a moment, they just stared at each other, content in seeing each other again. When the musicians struck up a new tune, the trance was broken, and Ganondorf and Zelda broke into wide smiles.
“Would you care to dance, Princess?” Ganondorf said softly.
“It would be my pleasure.

Up the down way
So I once wanted to write a FFIV AU, with a very different universe and an OC Callian Jackson. here was my attempt at note taking.
Callian is here in the story as Kain and Rosa's best friend. Kain and Rosa are dating, and with Callian here, there is a different dynamic to their friendship, as Kain has two girls teaming on him to do things, and is probably not left alone to brood as often as he would like, among other things. Callian is mostly here, because Cecil was being raised elsewhere, and Callian is a girl who lost both her parents in the war, and chose to take up the way of the dark knight, and passed it, becoming good enough to be a Captain of the red wings. She is not a cannon clone of Cecil or Kain, though she may take some elements of the roles, she is ultimately her own weirdo in the story. I do not intend her to be an expy, and hopefully she does not come off as a Sue either. Cecil is still in this story, just obviously not here in Baron. He'll probably show up briefly soon. The characters will not be as you remember, because the blue planet they grew up in is not the one we are used to, and there are some odd consequences to that. The social chemistry of the world is different, and so are they.
Is a bit of a parody and an AU Alice in Wonderland style, in that the characters can be downright odd.
Plot: When Callian Jackson's invasion of Mysidia goes wrong, she is sent to be a delivery person as atonement. Callians invasion likely went wrong because of a stray berserk spell, and her soldier's went nuts on the people. Never less, a good commander should rise above that, and accomplish the mission, keep the men's respect. Kain, wondering what Rosa was talking about, Comes into the room to ask, and ends up getting sent alongside Callian to Mist. ---
The scene starts with Callin quietly but furiously questioning her men, and her men too ashamed to say anything to her, beyond monster warnings. She begins, quietly, and intensely angry, getting details about the mission , until a monster attack distracts her, much to their relief. To the king, she is quietly upset, trying to hold her temper. Kain wanders into the room, and gets sent along. She does let it out when Rosa comes to her room, as Rosa often serves as an outlet.
Differences from IV: Kain is dating Rosa, and is not nearly as broody or secretive in part to having two woman who would pester him if he was off. Rosa is a lot more outspoken, and has Scrying abilities, as well as being Paranoid of Troians. Callian had a crush on Kain, but when Rosa asked him out, they talked about it, and Calians happy for them. I think in the original, Cecil was a peacemaker who asked Rosa to leave Kain alone, even when he deserved a chewing out.
Day two: They leave the castle with a feeling of Destiny in their hearts. At Baron, Calian goes and finds stuff with "treasure hunter senses", and Kain goes to buy supplies, (bartering , an act learned from Rosa). While Kain contemplates sporks, he runs into fan-girls and an eager dancer, and helps Calian take a tent from a river when he jumps. Once out of Town, the two decide to train like mad, then ride the Chocobos to the mountain , so they go south. They earn goblin and cocatrice. Meanwhile, at the castle, a Scrying Rosa sees them going the wrong direction, and decides to catch up with them using many Hermes sandals, and remembering why using too many items outside of battle is bad (made her more susceptible to the illness later). Meanwhile, Callian and Kain reach the grove after fighting enough battles with goblins to win the summon , and grab Chocobos. When Rosa arrives after, she sees a black Chocobo and uses it, much to the pale haired man's upset utterances. -(Yes that is Cecil, Lol)-She flys over the mountain and lands , deciding to rest in the grasslands. Meanwhile Callain and Kain arrive at the mountains, and take a rest instead of going in and facing zombies. (Rosa tells many horror stories) They get through the cave fine, and decide to rest in the tent before entering Mist.
Day two, part two: Well rested, our hero's enter the cave and run into porcupines and the dragon of Mist. Kain is not fond of attacking Dragons, so they try to run, only to have to kill it anyways. Entering the village, bombs attack from the Carnelian Signet .Rather than Come to the logical conclusion, Callain concludes its a test and she is meant to be foiling a ninja plot , and begins shouting orders and getting people to safety "taking command" of a chaotic situation. She decides to evacuate. Following orders, Kain goes to help a little girl, who- furious her village is being invaded- summons Titan, separating Kain from Callian. Meanwhile Rosa, believing they would be taken to Kaipo until they were transferred to Fabul and shipped to Troia, wanders around outside of Kaipo, trying to find the blasted place In the desert. She runs into Tellha, who informs her she is not the Mage he's looking for.
Day three: Kain wakes up, and decides to find a place for the little girl he accidentally orphaned to sleep, and perhaps be adopted. So he goes to Kaipo, a neutral city, and more importantly, close. In the middle of the night, three Guards come for Kain and Rydia. Kain sends them away stating Calian asked him to watch this kid. The Captain then asks if Rosa was here, since she has been missing and that their purpose here was a search party. Kain offers to take over the desert search party, much to their relief, and they go. Kain is glad that encounter could be solved by negotiating, as that was one of Callins competent Captains. Meanwhile Rosa collapses at Kaipos gates.
The next day, Rydia wakes up and can't remember the attack, or what she's doing here, and asks where her mother is. Kain informs her that her mother is dead. She is quiet after that. They hear some rumors about a girl with desert fever, and some more about the prophetic chick Anna who everyone had talked about the other day when they were looking for an inn. They find Rosa and discover she was the one with desert Fever. Kain goes off to find a sand pearl, and Rydia comes with him. In fact she refuses to leave him, very assertively. Kain gets Rydia some weapons. Rydia proves competent at Healing, and distracting monsters with weak attacks for Kain to counter. They use this strategy since Kain can't jump and leave her. Beyond battle, Rydia is quiet and unobservant in terrain. Kain has to hold her hand to prevent her wandering off.
Randomly added note.(Edges difference in attitude comes from a more comprehensive training due to an attack on the palace he almost died at. He is quieter and more ninja like.)
R.A.N2(Edward is determined to get the prophet who tried to save him back! He is more determined than sad.)
R.A.N3( Palom is already a sage, spellwise. He had to learn some cure magic until someone gave Porem a cure staff. The problem with the twins is that they are five year old prodigies, who are probably pushed because of paranoia over Baron. They have some issues. Palom has high standards, is hypercritical of himself, and uses lots of false bravado. He needs the rest of the world to believe he's awesome. Porem has a terrible bedside manor, and anger management issues, so carries a cure staff, so when she hits people, it heals them. They are quite nervous about teaching her hammer style fighting, even if she might be good at it, because no cure hammer has been invented. )
RAN 3.5: (Kain has to protect them on his way up the mountains. That means covering and countering the attacks directed towards them in battle, taking breaks for them, and giving them piggybacks. He also gives Rydia piggybacks. The trip up the mountain is a long and grueling journey. PS: Write a story about Cecil and the twins climbing the mountain, frame as elders revenge)
Finally Kain and Rydia arrive at the cage and meet Tellaha.
Rn4( Tellaha can see the future. Or at least possible outcomes of the future. Kain being here, makes him realize something is different, but he can't quite remember what. He has trouble differentiating between what is a possibility and what is real, leading him to sway between right for the wrong reasons, and completely off base. He seems to believe in the original timeline at the moment, and may leave on a quest for Cecil. Tellah is also amnesic, and can not remember past Anna's eleventh birthday)
Rn4.5 (This world's Anna is kind of Joan of Arc, and Callian’s main opponent, and they will clash more throughout the fic. Callin kind of sees her as worthy adversary, and keeps her alive, but gives her to Kain so she doesnt have to explain it.)
Tellaha informs them they are late, much to their confusion, and they enter the cave. Throughout the cave, they find several potions, and pieces of dark knight armour and a sword . Kain notes he does not have to worry about getting Callin a birthday present now. Tellaha focuses on teaching Rydia thunder and ice spell words, as fire will not be very useful in an water cave. Rydia tells them the smell of smoke terrifies her.
Kain and Tellaha reconsider their plans to have goblin for dinner, in favour of smoked goblin. Then again, fire keeps away Zombies. Kain and Tellaha debate the merits of fire as they continue through the cave.
(RN5: Rosa has a crazily complex family tree that includes, but is not limited too, Tellaha &Anna, Palom&Porem& Sheila[ Yangs wife]. It debatably includes Rydia. Maybe. Callian of course has no idea of this when she sits down and tries to relate to Rosa just how odd this is.)
(RN6: Rosa hates Troians. Troia, in this universe, are the Amazonian-esque city. They are fierce magical archers who steal or entice men into their castle, in an attempt to sire strong warriors. As a magical archer (white) Rosa is often accused of being one, and has grown a tad resentful. It doesn't help that Rosas family is from Mysidia, Barons former close ally [before the attack], who is traditionally rivals with Troia. Kain has huge respect for ninjas, like Callain has for monks )
After a brief rest, Tellah attacks Kain, asking where they are, who they are, and what happened to his daughter. Kain reminds them of the current quest, and Tellah asks where Cecil is. Kain asks who Cecil is, and they continue on through the monster packed cave, to face the Octomamoth. Kain has to keep to the strategy of defending Tellaha and Rydia, and countering the monsters attacks, while Tellaha and Rydia put their lightning based attacks to good use. It's a fairly long and painful battle, but they emerge victorious. Upon exiting the cave, they see an attack on Damcyan in the distance. They go to investigate.
Upon entering Damcyan, they meet Calian at the entrance, with Anna unconscious. Tellaha is out of it. Calian asks if they have seen Rosa, as she has gone missing. Kain affirms they have, and that she has desert fever, and they need a Damcyan person to get a sand pearl. Callian tells him, that although she still feels disturbed with Baron actions of late, she's happy to report, there were fewer casualties, her men were controlled in temperament, and once the tactician was knocked out, resistance fell apart. She believes Anna may be a genius tactician, and brilliant leader.
Upon seeing the tactician Anna, Tellaha attacks Callian, accusing her of being a spooney bard who ran off with his daughter, married her without permission , and got her killed.
Callin tells Kain to keep his companions under control, and get their stories straight. She also insists to Kain she is not a lesbian, and that she better leave if he wants help from the Damcyains. Before going, she tells him she found this among Mist, and gives Kain the bomb item hoping it will be useful to him.
Kain tells Tellaha he was attacking the wrong person, and they should go inside. They see people bringing a either pot downstairs to the wounded, and begin healing them. Rydia and Tellah spend time helping with magic, and Kain uses first aid, and helps with moving people downstairs. Eventually he comes across Edward mourning his mother and father. Kain, having some tact, leaves him alone for now. Once the cleanup is done, they begin moving the bodies Kain comes up, to talk with Edward. (Rosa has had him come on talks to patients families and he and Callian have also done so to their soldiers families). Kain is still quite blunt, but has learned some thing about talking to grieving people. Sorta.
They have a talk, and he manages to convince Edward to both help them get the sand pearl, and warn Faboul, once his kingdom is better. Rosa being a healer is mentioned. Rydia has no outburst. Once a second for Edward is appointed, they go to move out. Tellah yells at Edward asking what he was doing with his eleven year old daughter, and is asked what he is talking about by Edward. The only Anna he met was the glorious savior of Damcyan.
Tellah gets mad and runs off, much to Kain and Rydias discomfort. Finally they set off for the anitolin den. Much to Kains annoyance, he is still the group shield. The Antoilon is not a difficult foe, and after many battles they earn not only the sand pearl, but the elusive rainbow jelly for Edward, who is not going to give this one to Callain.
(RN7 Callain is crazy prepared in some ways. She insists on fighting many monsters with Kain outside of town, to stock up on items & Gil harvester as an ability. She and Cid had airships capable of invading the moon, that were destroyed by the red wings, because they left them with the RW in preparation to invade the moon. She also has oddly convenient timing, and a love of training people, with a dream to fill the bestiary. She buys every weapon, shield, ect. It's why Kain had Goblin on him. )
They then battle their way out of the cave, and take the hover across the shoals. They fight a few battles and get cockatrice summon.
Rydia is pleased. Rosa is revived.
The story goes on, but I haven't moved far past that point.
So some explanations and headcanons to make sense of this verse
Baron is at war with Ebalan. The crystals being stolen and the army, and Callian’s explanation of “foiling a ninja plot” are tied to this. The war started over a catastrophic failure in marriage negotiations.
Rosa is the current heir of Baron. She is tied to the lineage of the throne through her grandmother, a princess who married a mysidian mage, who had her mother, who married a dragoon in Barron. It was a scandalous story back in the day, although it is kept on the down low now that the king has fathered no children, and they are at war. Kain is looked at as the future ruler, because of this. Politics will play a part, particularly during the Fabul castle invasion. Also Rosa needs to be depicted with more muscle please, she wields a bow for crying out loud. She should be soo buff.
There are rumors that Calian is the heir. Callian plays along with this to protect her friend.
Calian is loyal to her friends, but she is also loyal to her country and the people she leads. She is not leaving on Kain’s quest because she intends to take care of the people back home. I wanted to contrast the personal reasons of Kain being an antagonist from cannon, and avert brainwashing. She’s not as blind as she pretends to be, and comes up with some very bizarre explanations to others in the intention to subvert the malice in her orders. She won't be able to look away forever, but in the meantime she can use “alternative explanations” to do things like prevent Mist from being a genocide, or win Damcyan with less casualties ( Anna of Arc was a pretty big factor in this too). The surviving summoners will play a part later.
Who cast the Berserk spell is a small ongoing mystery. (The brainwashing is not contained to Baron)
At this point in the story, Rydia is amnesic, and I tried to include some realistic symptoms of that. She is also under the impression that Kain is her previously unmet Dad, who came for her after her mom died, and does not remember the invasion, probably the trauma from it. The “Kain is secretly my dad” is not revealed until after the Faymarch, because it had no reason to come up, and it's pretty hard to dissuade her of it after she has lived with it for years.
Oh, heres some older notes
-“Honesty, my first attempt went from crack to serious, to crack. Like at the beginning, I decided there's no way the mages should be that easy to defeat, so I decided that a berserk spell had been cast on half of both armies. Of course, it's a pretty chaotic battle between being turned into frogs or pigs , and the fire spells, the mages berserking and everything. So, Calian decides, let's complete the objective, get in, get the crystal, get out.
So once she recalls her troops, she is on the airship, and trying to figure out WTF happened. Of course back home!e, she is responsible, and the king is questioning her competence there. He sends her on a milk run to deliver this ring to some nowhere village in the mountains.
Like in canon, Kain comes along.
Rosa talks to her to try to cheer her up that night.
The next day they go to town. Kain goes shopping, and Callian goes Item hunting. When Kain runs into a crazy dancer fangirl, he jumps off a bridge and finds Calian contemplating a tent in the water.
They decide it would be better to catch a Chocobo. Of course they run into so many goblins there they find a goblin summon. (Ffiv has a ridiculously low drop rate) . Then they set up a tent outside the cave.
The next day, they face the dragon, accidentally kill the summoner. Then they find out the purpose of the ring was to summon bombs on the village. Callin interprets it weirdly...
"It is an Ebalanese ninja plot. I must do what I failed last time and take control of the situation. Command it. Kain, help me evacuate."
So, more villagers survive, but Rydia still summons Titan
The nation of Barron is being taken over by Golbez, who is also possessed. He had the king brainwashed, then disposed of and replaced, and Barron is now making war for crystals of other nations, and bombing the village of summoners, and in cannon Cecil and Kain agreed this is not the king we want to work for. Then they are separated by a magic earthquake, and end up on opposite sides of the mountain. Cecil is left caring for the child whose mother he inadvertently killed, and Kain is presumably taken back to Barron and brainwashed.
In this one , Kain will be with the kid, and Calian will be back in Barron not brainwashed, (yet,) but loyal and willing for the time. She's a capable captain, and as long as she is loyal to home, well someone needs to lead the army.
Like Cecil, she's friends with Kain and Rosa. Unlike Cecil, Kains group dynamic is changed, because I sort of get the feeling that Cecil let Kain brood too much. Like Kain and Cecil were said to be BFF\Rivals, but the game didn't really show it much. There was a love diagram with Kain crushing on Rosa, who was dating Cecil, so I get the feeling that tension was never properly talked out in Cannon, because Kain kind of behaves like a creep towards her when brainwashed, and then apparently stays on a mountain for 30 years post game. Some shit needs to be said here.
So yah, different dynamic here
So Cailan takes Cecil's role at first, being captain of the red wings, Kains Rival, and generally regarded as essential for being a knight. She worked hard to get there, and is pretty competitive. Cecil is still around, and will show up later, as a different person with different teachings.
She is loyal to her home country and her troops, and that will get her into trouble and scapegoat in the long run.”
So Cecil. Here Cecil is still a dark knight, who grew up the apprentice of the wandering dark knight whose armor we find around the game, and is mentioned in Fabul. As an apprentice to someone who the dark knight class is a family style, he has a lot more battle techniques and equipment then in game. He is investigating why there are increasingly frequent monster attacks, and trying to find out why the world is out of balance.
Edward sincerely admires Anna.
Anna and her father have hereditary clairvoyance. It takes a toll on them as they age.

Sabriel week; Day One - Hurt/Comfort
(I know it’s technically day two but I forgot it was this week)
Sam winced at the stinging of the alcohol as his wound was washed out, trying hard to put on a brave face as the doctor and nurse cleaned out the shards of glass and gravel from the wound.
“You’ve had an awful day, huh, son?” The nurse asked, passing the doctor more saline as she picked each piece of glass out with the extra long tweezers. He held the tray out for her, each tiny rock, each jagged shard, and every little miscellaneous piece of garbage making a very audible thunk against the stainless steel. He sighed when the tray got too full, leaving to get another.
The doctor turned her greying head up at Sam, looking through her glasses at him in sympathy. “You’re sure you don’t want to talk to the officers? Catch the guy who did this to you and your brother?” Her eyes were soft, warm like his mother’s, but they couldn’t convince of this.
How do you tell a civilian that the “guy” who did this was a pack of demons? “No, I’m still... I think I’m in shock. I-“ he grasped the edge of the bed as a spasm of pain ripped through him, the swelling of the ankle doing little to go down. “My ankle is killing me, any chance we can X-ray it?”
She rolled the stool down by his foot, carefully taking his shoe off, followed by his sock. “Yeah, I don’t think you need an X-ray, Sam,” she clicked her tongue as they both looked down to see the bone in his foot peeking out through the skin. “But you’ll need surgery. I’m going to book an OR right now and our top ortho surgeron will work on your foot as I finish your side, okay?” He nodded, watching her stand to rip off her gloves. “I’m going to find nurse Elliot to let him know, and I’ll see about an update on your brother, okay?”
Sam nodded, trying to focus on the pattern of the privacy curtains instead of the pain ripping him in half.
He didn’t notice the demons at first, neither did Dean, but he was the first to be thrown through the window. It should have been just a simply salt and burn, shouldn’t have taken more than a day, but they weren’t lucky. It turned into a shit show really quickly, and Sam had carried Dean to the ER on sheer adrenaline alone after a demon crashed the impala into his older brother, totalling the car and fracturing so many bones in Dean, Sam was surprised he didn’t lodge one of them into an organ on their twenty minute hobble.
Dean had gone into surgery twenty six and a half minutes ago. And now that the adrenaline had worn off and Sam realized he’d also broken his own foot, he was going in too. And he was scared. It wasn’t normal for dean to need surgery, not been something he’d had to wait through for a long, long time, and now he needed it too? At the same time, no less. No, Sam Winchester wasn’t scared - he was terrified.
But he nodded along to everything the nurses said, signed the waiver, and let the anesthesiologist hook him up to an IV, dread sitting low in his stomach as he was wheeled to the OR. He only hoped he would wake up as soon as his mom got there, as soon as Dean would.
——————————-
“How is he?”
“Stable. Nurse said he should wake up in the next few minutes.”
Sam knew those voices, even as muffled as they were, but he couldn’t... place them. Still, they chattered on.
“How’s Dean?”
Dean....
“Good. Doctor said he’s lucky to be alive, but he’s awake and demanding I wheel him over here. But he’s still really groggy and high from the pain meds, so let’s wait.” A soft hand ran through his hair, the smell of the soap he’d grown fond of for the past year and a half.
His eyes opened slowly, a breath filling his lungs with the soft floral spice. “Mom?”
“Sam!” Her face swam into focus as he blinked up at her. Bags hung below her eyes, crinkled around the edges in a tight smile. “You scared the shit outta me! You two went in there, no backup, no nothing? It’s not like you. I knew something was wrong when you didn’t call me back last night.”
She looked exhausted, and Sam felt guilty about it. But he simply smiled softly back at her, thankful she was by his side. “Sorry, Mom. Won’t happen again. Dean-“
“He’s fine. Doctor’s patched him up and he’s going to go stir crazy because he’ll be bed bound for a few weeks, but he’ll live.”
Before she could finish her thought, nurse Elliot popped his head into their room. “Sorry to break up the reunion here, but Mrs. Baker? There’s some insurance forms I still need you to fill out.”
Mary nodded, turning to kiss Sam on the forehead before leaving. “I’ll be back, okay?”
Sam nodded, letting her go. The door barely closed before he felt the bed dip on his other side. Startled, he turned his head just in time to see Gabriel curl up against him, face just inches from his own. “I’m so angry with you.”
“Yeah?” He cocked an eyebrow, waiting to feel the full brunt of the ex-archangel’s fury.
Gabriel nodded. His face didn’t show anger, though, in fact, it was twisted more in pain than any other emotion Sam could have anticipated it’d be. “We were supposed to have a date night, and instead you go on a hunt with Dean without backup. How am I supposed to handle that, hmm? You didn’t even tell me ahead of time. You just.... you text me from a gas station a state away, saying ‘sorry. Change of plans.’ Like-“ he scoffs, frustrated and ready to cry. “The next call I get is from a nurse saying they’re wheeling you into surgery. Do you know how messed up that is? You can’t even call me yourself to cancel date night, you have to have a nurse do it for you.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Yeah, whatever.”
Sam reaches up with both hands, cupping Gabriel’s face and forcing him to look at the man. “It was messed up how I handled it. I let Dean rope me into the hunt because I knew if I didn’t he’d go alone, and I didn’t call you because I knew you’d try to either tag along or convince me to stay behind. I’m struggling trying to please both of you, and I’m coming up short, here. Our relationship is suffering because of my choices, and I’m so unbelievably sorry, Gabe. I’m going to try harder. I’m also going to try to find someone to be Dea: backup when I can’t be.” He rubbed his thumb under Gabe’s left eye, a secretly favourite spot of Gabe’s he likes Sam touching he doesn’t think Sam knows about. “I have to compromise here for us, and I don’t know why I haven’t been willing to when it comes to Dean.”
Gabriel shrugged. “Cuz you’re both too codependent.”
Sam sighed, nodding. “Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know.” He knew Gabriel was right, they all did, but the man still had some pride to keep. “Truce? I’ll make it up to you. We can have date night tomorrow.”
Gabriel laughed, a wet chuckle bubbling up from his throat. “Oh, no, babe. The doctor wants you in bed rest too. We’re going to have to put date night on hold for a while.”
Sam pouted, but nodded anyways. Far be it from him to keep Gabriel from doting on him for a change. And dote Gabriel did every single time Sam got injured or sick. Three months ago it was from a twisted ankle, and a week after that it had been the flu. Both time’s Gabriel went all out in the best human ways he could in order to make Sam feel pampered beyond words.
Gabriel nodded, curling alongside Sam and kissing him softly. “But only if I get to choose what documentary we watch. I’m not watching that coin one anymore. It’s coins. I know how they work. I have common cents.”
“Stop.”
“Why? I’m being the change I want to see in this world.”
“Gabriel.”
“Come on, you know you love me.”
Sam let out a soft smile at the worlds, having only admitted them to his boyfriend just a few weeks ago. Three years. Three years and he’d finally admitted it. “Yeah, I guess I do, Huh?”
Gabriel smiled widely, kissing him softly again. “When we get home, I’m getting you a maternity pillow. Your mom said it’ll help you sit upright so you don’t put strain on your stitches. We already have Jack and Cas out buying other stuff for you guys. Got a thick foam pillow to elevate your broken foot. And I also got us an HBO Go account so you can binge watch your shows. And soup. You like tomato and rice, right?”
Sam hummed in agreement, already enjoying the prospect at all of that. “Can we just lay here for a bit, first? We can get into the rest later. Just.... hold me? And maybe-“
“Run my fingers through your hair? You got it.”
By the time that Mary had finished the last form, Sam had fallen asleep again, but this time, it was from his boyfriend’s warmth.

RED THREADS (ACT IV)
Park Chanyeol × Park Sooyoung
Park Chanyeol loved his wife enough to think she’d be blinded by love as much as he was when he took her for granted and started meeting another woman behind her back. He thought he, as a respected police officer, would be strong enough to take any damage given to his heart and mind-
The less was he prepared for the day his wife, Sooyoung, ended up leaving him. The day he had asked her out. The day he had proposed to her.
Christmas Eve.
Chapter Song:
Word Count: ongoing
ACT IV - STILL
“And he was still hung up on her with every single fibre of his body.”
24th of December, 2020
A bell chimmed as the door to the small bar was pushed open. Kim Minseok's eyes left the wine glass he was polishing skillfully, shifting to the tall visitor who was just about to put off his long coat, greeting the few customers at the back of the room with a nod.
"Oh, you're early today, Chanyeol." Said man smiled weakly as he instinctively took his seat - really, if only you'd squint your eyes at his stool, you would be able to see his butthocks engraved from all the hours he's spent sitting on it in the past years.
"Well, it's not like anyone's waiting for me at home", he growled, immediately grabbing the whiskey glass Minseok had just placed on the counter knowingly, and took a sip. "No need to sit on an empty couch any longer when I know you're opening up at 2 in the afternoon."
Minseok sighed soundlessly as he put the glasses he'd just dried on top of the counter. He knew Chanyeol felt lonely all around the year, especially in December. "Listen, I know you're still having your hopes up, but don't you think it's time to move on? It's been four years, Yeol. I have the feeling living in this huge house on your own isn’t very healthy for someone like you." He had thought about it for some time, noticing early how much Chanyeol had changed ever since Sooyoung had left him, and gave him a worried look as he poured him a glass of his usual.
"Someone like me?" Chanyeol didn't answer his best friend's stare, all his attention now lying on a group of women in their late twenties, laughing a bit too loud for his taste. He merely shuttered at the thought that they were nice to look at, but unbearable either way, and he shook his head when he caught himself comparing them to his ex-wive. They couldn't compare. No one could.
"Someone who's usually loud and all over whatever place he's at", Minseok smiled gently and chuckled a bit at the way his old acquaintance eyed said females disapprovingly. "Someone who'd mope around like an immature teenager whenever he's not our center of attention for half an hour."
"Maybe I've become more mature?", Chanyeol pondered as his gaze returned to the glass in his hand, alcohol gently swaying inside as his hand spun the glass around on the table.
"-Or maybe you've become depressed?"
Chanyeol pulled a face when Minseok quickly took the whiskey glass away from him to prevent the precious item from falling off the bar table."Listen, it's not like you to come here to drink in the middle of the day. I've seen lots of different types of people come and fall in this bar over the past ten years, and believe me, I don't want you to be on that list."
For the first time in a while, Park Chanyeol remembered that this specific friend in front of him was a few years older than him. Minseok usually was a pretty chilled and rather soft companion, someone you could always call up whenever you needed someone to pour your heart out to- and Chanyeol was able to foresee the words that would come out of his mouth in a moment. He remembered having a similar conversation with Minseok back when Chanyeol had just graduated from High School and had decided to rather not go back home to his parents for a week and sleep under a bridge than tell his father that he'd not fullfill his dream of his own son following him in his footsteps as a renowned lawyer, but to chase his own dreams and become a police officer.
"You know that it irks me to see my friends being so down in the mouth. You're not the type of person to come here and get drunk and mope around for the rest of the day-"
"People change, I guess."
Both of them raised their heads at the sudden sound of Do Kyungsoo's voice that rang over to them from the front door. They watched said man as he walked over to them and occupied the seat next to Chanyeol, throwing his thick beige winter coat onto another bar stool.
"Wow, what a rare sight", Minseok snickered and nodded at Kyungsoo to greet him. "I can't say I'm unhappy about some help with this tough one we have here-"
"Guys, please. Can't you leave me alone with this whole shit for a single day? It's Christmas." They both raised their eyebrows at the way Chanyeol hid his face in his hands and slouched down, his upper body now lowered to half of it's actual height.
"-Christmas, the most romantic time of the year", Kyungsoo added and his face lit up as he playfully hit his tall friend's shoulder who'd been groaning at his addition,"that's why the guys are all coming here with their better halves, including me... and sadly, excluding you, dumbass."
Chanyeol, his head still face-down on the counter, murmured: "What does all mean?"
The one behind the counter threw in- "All of them- us. Kyungsoo, Jongdae, Baekhyun, even Jongin came here from New York with his girlfriend to-"
"--Wait, so Baekhyun's not coming alone, either?" Chanyeol finally raised his head, eyes widened from the sudden shock the news had put him in.
"Yeah, her name is... Kyungri."
It took a while for Minseok's tone, oozing with irony, to sink into Chanyeol's brain that still couldn't deal with the sight of the blinking fairy lights behind the bar, when-"Wait, your sister and Baekhyun-", he finally exclaimed, but was interrupted by Kyungsoo slamming his empty glass on the table.
"Don't remind me", he growled, "I still can't believe my sister lowered her standards enough to hook up with this horrible excuse of a police-"
"Soo, please. Just a few minutes ago, Chanyeol stated that it is Christmas, the feast of love and joy", Minseok snickered, and they heard the tallest among them mumble something close to "using my words for your own purpose".
The three of them ended up downing a small shot of Bourbon in silence, giving Chanyeol some time to think. Again. It wasn't like he hadn't been thinking about this matter before- heck, there hadn't been a day without him thinking of his wife, the smug looks on his face whenever his friends had pulled faces oozing with jealousy. He had been thinking about her non-stop, and whenever he was close to forgetting for a second, he'd been reminded of her absence by the smallest things- starting with the same bouquet of flowers he bought every two weeks at her favourite flower shop or the scent of the car air freshener he still bought every month because he couldn't bring himself to change it. Change was something he had loved when he was younger, but it had become a nuisance when his luck walked out of the door of their shared house. Something that pained him when he knew that with every fibre of his body, he was still hung up on his previous wife.
Chanyeol noticed Minseok handing him another glass of liquor, downing it in one go when it hit him that he was still hung up on Park Sooyoung with every single fibre of his body.
“At least the chief’s still single as well”, he murmured, the image of Kim Junmyeon popping up in the back of his mind.
“Actually-” Kyungsoo was cut off the bright chimmng of the bell above the entrance and a mix of laughter and whinng that surely belonged to no other than Kim Jongdae.
“I swear, we tried everything to tag him along, but he said he was having plans!”
“Yeah, we tried bribing him by promising to behave in the office, but even that wasn’t enough to get him to come- I bet he’s visiting his parents for a family reunion”, Baekhyun added, rolling his eyes at the thought of their traditional chief.
“Well, I wouldn’t be surprised. He’s always been very fond of his family-”
Chanyeol, obviously happy to see his friends coming to brighten this evening (but also fairly annoyed by the noise and the happiness everyone was radiating), looked over to Kyungsoo, whose wife had just walked over to give him an affectionate kiss (Yeol noticed that his friend couldn’t supress the redness creeping up his cheeks and ears). He himself responded to her affectionate greeting with a mere nod and a week smile, and the moment she walked over to get a large table close to the counter occupied, Kyungsoo ruffled his hair and simply, but loudly stated:
“Wouldn’t be too surprised if Junmyeon’s far, far away from home at the moment.”
Chanyeol raised his eyebrows, getting up to greet the rest of the group. “Why’s that? Family trouble?”
The smaller guy snickered. “No, but I think he’s started dating someone again. That one team leader you worked with in division five.”
Kyungsoo grinned, while watching the faces of his friends and collegues fall one after another, Baekhyun’s mouth ripped open in disbelief while his girlfriend gently patted his back, and Jongdae being hit by his own female counterpart when he snorted.
“Irene?!”
The following two hours passed in what seemed like the blink of an eye. Jongin and his girlfriend had eventually arrived half an hour after everyone else had managed to get cozy. While everyone else was engulfed in talks about their plans for Christmas and New Years, Chanyeol was happily looking at photos of Jongin’s twins on his friend’s phone.
“They’ve grown so much since the last time you sent us a picture.”
Jongin’s nose crunched as he laughed. “That was like, a week ago,”
“-Still!”, Jongdae threw in, looking past Chanyeol’s shoulder to look at the girls. “How old are they? Two?”
“They’re turning three years next month.” Everyone could see Jongin’s chest swelling with the pride of a father. Something in Chanyeol stirred when he noticed his hand brushing the one of his girlfriend.
“9th January, wasn’t it”, he asked, voice suddenly a lot raspier than before.
Jongin’s girlfriend nodded, glancing at him lovingly, before her gaze took a turn to the sadness that overcame her whenever she thought of what a good father Chanyeol would have been. The softness washing past his features caused her to tear up, reminding her of the most beautiful moment she had shared with Jongin- the birth of their twins. She thought of the first time Jongin had held his baby girls in his arms, and the moment Chanyeol put his arm around her shoulder, congratulating her. She was sure she would never forget the first time she saw Jongin’s friend holding one of their girls, tears of pure joy trickling down his face while Jongin showered her face with kisses.
What a good godfather Chanyeol was.
“Is that the blanket I sent you as a present for their first birthday?”, Chanyeol exclaimed, face lighting up more and more with every photo.
“Yeah, though I have to admit Yena uses it as a napkin these days-” Jongin laughed, but suddenly raised his eyebrows, his grip on his girlfriend’s hand tightening when he saw Chanyeol’s face was taken over by confusion, his eyes wide and dark as he put Jongin’s phone on the table.
“ Yeol? You okay-?”
But neither Jongin’s voice, nor Jongdae’s hand on his shoulder could keep Chanyeol from jumping up, throwing his chair back in the process, and running out of the bar within seconds.
It had been nothing but a glimpse. An image that triggered various memories- dark hair falling down a naked back in waves; soft curves covered in blue, leaning into his touch; dark red lips, curving upwards, consuming his soul;
He managed to locate the waves of dark hair he had seen in the corner of his eye before, the blue bell coat that had seemed familiar.
He heard the bar’s bell chimming once more behind him, Minseok stepping out, Chanyeol’s coat in hand. Heard his friend calling out to him, repeating his name over and over, as the woman a few steps ahead turned around, glancing at the phone in her hand, before lifting her head. Her face was taken over by the most radiant smile Chanyeol had ever seen, and he managed to open his mouth to call out to her, when he felt something -someone- brushing past him, nearly knocking him off his feet with a single word.
“Mommy!”
Chanyeol’s gaze shifted from the woman’s face to the small ball of pink fur, sticking its arms up and jumping high, obviously wishing to be picked up, when a man around his age walked up to them leisurely, fullfilling the childs wish and hugging the female shortly after.
Minseok’s eyes, round and clear, shifted from the young family to Chanyeol’s face, and for a second, he thought he could hear his friend’s heart breaking anew, when Yeol managed to raise his voice.
“Soo... Sooyoung?”
The woman’s eyes focused on them, and as expected, her face fell.

What Are You Afraid Of?
"Stop that! My hands are dirty." "My hands are dirty too. What are you afraid of?" "Afraid?" "You're trembling, Eds." "I'm not trembling." "You like me because I'm a scoundrel. There aren't enough scoundrels in your life."

Chapter I: No Reward Is Worth This

It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire.
During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet.
Pursued by the Empire's sinister agents, Prince Eddie races home aboard his starship, custodian of the stolen plans that can save his people and restore freedom to the galaxy...
The halls of the Tantive IV are filled with the nervous energy of the rebel guards, prepared to protect the royalty on board from the anticipated attack of The Empire. Everyone knows how important it is to safely return the prince to the rebel alliance. Not only is he extremely valuable in the war, but the information he carries is even more detrimental to the war's outcome.
Suddenly the ship seems to shake to life as the doors of the ship explode upwards, allowing a strew of stormtroopers to fight their way in. Prince Eddie is overwhelmed with the high pitched screeching of the blasters while he rushes to safety in the ship. An R2 unit rounds the corner and Eddie pulls it into his brief shelter on the ship. Eddie understands that keeping the plans on him puts not only his self at more risk, but also completely risks the mission that this was all for.
Eddie quickly transfers the data over to the droid and requests that the droid let him record a message that will grant the alliance with the only hope left.
The sound of another droid rounding the corner, in search of the R2 unit, alerts Eddie of the urgency of his current actions. He quickly finalizes the data transfer and rushes off to hide and get away from the detrimental information that must be passed on. Eddie is not going to let his own mistakes let down the rebel alliance. The droids wander off, and Eddie can't help but pray that the mission will at least be completed without him.
The prince hides with his whole body shaking, but he has faith in himself. He holds his blaster proudly in his hands as he maneuvers around the ship, trying his best to avoid the fleet of stormtroopers in search of him and the plans. Eddie loves the rush of adrenaline he gets from being involved first hand in these missions.
Prince Eddie lived a large portion of his life under the overbearing eyes of his adoptive parents, the members of the Senate, and the people in his kingdom. Eddie always felt that he had to live up to this expectation of being the polite, obedient prince that went along with everything. Eddie wants to be so much more than that. He's always felt an urge to be more and do more. Something has always pushed at the back of his mind, telling him that he has so much more potential than anyone could imagine. Eddie has tried to reach out of his confines of royalty with his involvement in the rebel alliance, but the constraints of his mother always lure him back in before he can get himself into too much trouble.
The voice of a stormtrooper shakes Eddie from his thoughts of freedom and individuality, as he sprints around the corner. Suddenly his whole body goes limp with a sudden wave of dull pain, as he is hit with a stun blast.
Eddie wakes to some troopers dragging his limp body down the halls of the ship with his hands bound together. Eddie understands where he is wanted and who he will have to face once he gets there, so he begins to fight back against the stormtroopers who have a tight grip on his upper arms. Eddie does his best to struggle his way away from them, but he is suddenly face to face with the devil himself, Darth Vader.
Eddie's anger is apparent as he rushingly addresses the man, "Darth Vader. Only you could be so bold. The Imperial Senate will not sit still for this. When they hear you've attacked a-"
"Don't act so surprised, Your Highness. You weren't on any mercy mission after all. Several transmissions were beamed up to this ship by Rebel spies. I want to know what happened to the plans they sent you," Vader aggressively interrupts.
"I don't know what you're talking about. I'm a member of the Imperial Senate on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan!"
"You are part of the Rebel Alliance and a traitor! Take him away!"
Eddie tried his best to act his way out of the situation, but Vader knows more than he expected. As he is dragged to a detention cell, Eddie just hopes that those droids escaped the grasp of the Empire.
Richie Tozier understands that these two men are outsiders who don't really fit into the Cantina's environment, but god do they annoy him. He can even tell by Chewbacca's insistent mumbling that he isn't too fond of the strangers either. The shaggy haired kid, named Bill or something, just won't stop whining. The older man who is a bit too full of himself seems like he's into that hippy force shit, which makes Richie not want to get involved even more. But Richie also understands that these two men want something, and that means that he would get something in return.
Just to be clear, Richie isn't a selfish man, he just knows how to play his cards right. He understands how to get by in life, and he's going to make the best out of his skill of swindling. Richie was taught at a very young age how to find loop holes and magically come out of any deal with what he wanted, even if some illegal actions were involved, which they frequently were. As a young adult, Richie has grown to accept nothing less than what he wants. Right now, he does not want to spend anymore time with this kid, but he also thinks he can easily trick this old man into giving him way more money than necessary.
"Ten-thousand?" Bill gripes, "We could almost buy our own ship for that."
Richie leans forward in his chair, ready to remind this kid that he was the one doing them a favor, "But who's going to fly it, kid? You?"
"You bet I could. I'm not such a bad pilot myself," Bill defended, rising from his seat. This is the last straw for Richie. He understands that the kid is impatient and full of himself, but Richie knows he's one of the only people in this galaxy that can fly his ship with such expertise. Bill claiming that flying was so easy is like a jab in Richie's soul. Being a pilot is a skill that some people have to work very hard for and give up a lot, Richie would know, and wasn't something this kid could just master in one day.
The older man pulls Bill back down to his seat, and makes an offer with Richie that makes spending more time with Bill seem bearable.
"Seventeen, huh?" The older man nods wisely in response to Richie's question, "Okay, you guys've got yourself a ship."
The fluorescent lighting streaming from the grated ceiling is the only thing that keeps Eddie sane in his dark detention cell. Eddie is a very anxious person, but no matter how nervous he gets in situations, he always feels this hidden strength from within. There is always a sense that he isn't alone, and that he will never truly suffer alone. There is always a sense of security deep within, no matter how utterly lonely and terrified he is in reality. Eddie was always told as a child that he was vulnerable and needed to take extra precautions to avoid the hands of danger. He understands that his place in the Senate makes him more susceptible to abuse, but Eddie always knows that he will be okay. Now this isn't some false sense of grandiosity, Eddie knows he has more potential than anyone expects. He has faith in himself when nobody else does.
As the sound of echoing footsteps are heard outside of his chamber, Eddie's pounding heart seems to quicken to match their pace. Darth Vader glides into the room after some guards.
"And now, Your Highness, we will discuss the location of your hidden rebel base."
An IT-O Interrogation Unit hovers in after Vader, yielding a long needle that makes Eddie's heart almost burst in his chest. But Eddie keeps his cool. He gazes up at Vader and glares at the man in the mask, refusing to show any sign of weakness to the enemy. Eddie tries to shuffle away from the bot, but the unit has set him as the target and refuses to sway from its orders.
The guards grab ahold of the prince and steady him in front of the needle as the bot edges towards him. Eddie curses at the guards and tries to struggle from their grip, but nevertheless fails and is met with the sharp prick of a needle on his neck. Eddie feels the serum run through his veins and his vision begins to go blurry. Everything around him is moving too slow and too fast all at once and he can't seem to fully concentrate on his own existence. The room begins to lean and sway and Eddie begins to panic. He shifts his body towards the far corner of his stone bed and pulls his legs to his chest for a sense of comfort. Vader edges towards the young prince and surprises everyone with a lighthearted tone.
"Now, Eddie I have a couple little questions for you, if you don't mind." Eddie tries to shake his head and mumble out a refusal, but he can't seem to form words in this state. "I was just wondering if you possibly knew where the location of the rebel base is?" Vader sits down next to the prince and rests his hand on Eddie's knee when Eddie tries to fight off the question.
"I-I...I c-can't," Eddie manages to mutter. Vader leans in his body closer and tries to act in a comforting manner, but Eddie can sense that there is no sincerity in his actions.
"Yes, you can. You can trust me, Your Highness, I am one with the rebellion. I am on your side," Vader lies through his teeth. Even though Eddie is heavily under the influence of the interrogation drug, he knows that Vader is using his state as a method of manipulating his mind. Through all of the fuzz of his brain, Eddie still feels that sense of belonging and comfort gnawing in the back of his head. The sensation grounds him to the reality of the situation and to Vader's lies.
Vader senses Eddie's hesitance and realizes that the boy is stronger than he thought. Eddie has some odd ability to act against the interrogation serum that Darth Vader was not expecting.
"Eddie, it's me, you father. My Name is Bail Kaspbrak. I'm one of the senators of Alderaan. I adopted you when you were just a baby. I need you to remind me where the rebel base is. You know that your dear father's memory is beginning to go a bit as I age. I need you to tell me, son."
Eddie responds with a rush of refusals. His brain coaxing him to refuse to apparent image of his adoptive father.
"If you aren't going to cooperate, we are going to have to do this the hard way," Vader threatens. "Eddie, you are feeling excruciating pain. A whole universe of pain. You body is engulfed in flames and pain is the only feeling you've ever known."
Eddie cries out in agony as all of his nerve endings light up in mind-numbing pain. He moans for the pain to stop, but Vader continues to command Eddie into a delusion of hurt. But through all of this torture, Eddie remains strong and refuses to give up the location in question. The inner security stays with him, and he is able to resist Darth Vader's mind tricks. The pain eventually becomes too much and Eddie feels the room around him become dark as his body is overcome with the burning sear of pain.
"What the fuck did you guys get me into?" Richie exclaims as the Millennium Falcon is pulled into a boarding dock of the Death Star. He can't help but beat himself up for jumping at the chance at this so-called easy deal. Richie knew that he was impulsive and occasionally materialistic, but it had been a while since he fucked himself over this bad.
"Don't fret, I have a plan," the wiser man says from the entrance of the cockpit. Richie recently figured out that the man was named Michael Hanlon. He is supposedly a Jedi master, but Richie doubts the authenticity in that claim. Richie also was told that Michael is about the same age as himself, he just holds himself in such a mature attitude that Richie has never possessed in his twenty-five years. The stress wrinkles on Mike's face probably don't help the false age that people presume of him, but Richie can definitely tell that Mike knows more about the world than Bill did.
As the ship landed on the dock, the men all hurry to hide underneath the floor compartments in the main hall of the Falcon. The men all hold their breaths as they hear the troopers approaching and walking above their heads. When all activity seems to halt aboard the ship, they all leave their spot in the secret compartments, and Mike continues with his plan.
Troopers enter the ship with a plan of scanning the place but as soon as they enter, the men take them down. Mike impersonates a trooper and hollers for the remaining stormtroopers, who are guarding the entrance, to come lend the others a hand. Once they have taken down all of the troopers, Richie and Bill quickly work to steal the uniforms off of two of the troopers and disguise themselves. The two impersonators lead Mike and Chewie to the overlooking security room for the dock.
When the door raises open, Chewbacca lets out a threatening howl as Richie works quickly to blast the guards into silence.
Bill closes the door behind them, removes his helmet, and protests, "You know, between his howling and your blasting-everything-in-sight it's a wonder the whole station doesn't know we're here."
Richie removes his helmet to reveal a pointed look and says, "Bring 'em on. I prefer a straight fight to all this sneakin' around."
The droids, C-3PO and R2-D2, are quick to scour the databases in search of a way to allow the Millennium Falcon to take flight once again. C-3PO acts as a translator for the R2 unit and explains that they have located the power beam that is containing the ship within the station. Mike decides that he needs to shut down one of the terminals on his own.
As Mike leaves the room, he speaks in a low, reassuring tone, "Be patient, Bill. Stay and watch over the droids. They must be delivered safely or other star systems will suffer. Your destiny lies along a different path from mine. The force will be with you. Always."
With that Mike runs out of the room and Bill solemnly closes the door after him. Chewie grumbles to Richie, and Richie seems to agree with the wookie.
"Why you said it, Chewie. Where did you dig up that ole hippie?"
"Mike is a great man!"
"Yeah, great at getting us into trouble," Richie mutters and the two continue to bicker until they are interrupted by a commotion coming from the two droids.
C-3PO translates for the smaller droid, "R2 says that he's here and he found him."
Bill jumps out of his seat at the news, "Who's here? Who did he find?"
"Prince Edward."
Bill's eyes grow to the size of saucers as he hurriedly asks, "The prince? He's here? Where is he?"
Richie looks confused between Bill and the droids as he wonders aloud, "Prince? A Prince? What's going on?"
R2-D2 quickly searches the database and C-3PO reports, "Level Five Detention Block AA23. I'm afraid he's scheduled to be terminated"
Bill jumps to life, "Oh no! We have to do something!"
"What are you talking about?" Richie asks, not quite mirroring Bill's attitude.
"The droids belong to him. He's the one in the message. We have to help him!" Bill explains.
Richie lounges back in one of the guards chairs and makes it clear that he has no interest in getting into any more trouble, "Now look, don't get any funny ideas. The ole man wants us to wait right here."
"But he didn't know the prince was here," Bill exclaims. He turns to the droids and quietly mutters, "Let's just find a way into the detention block."
"Look kid, I know that you think the prince is going to think of you as some big hero and you might finally get laid, but I'm not going anywhere. I can help you get fucked some other time, but not with so much on the line," Richie condescendingly jokes.
"They're going to execute him! Look a few minutes ago you said you didn't want to just wait here to be captured. Now all you want to do is stay?"
"Marching into the detention area is not exactly what I had in mind," Richie says with an eyebrow raise, to indicate his confusion with Bill's logic.
"But they're going to kill him!"
"Better him than me, buckaroo," Richie says with a bit of malice. Richie had endured enough during his life to know that risking your own life for another didn't always turn out in your favor. He doesn't think it's okay to leave the prince to die, but he doesn't know if he is willing to die just to be the good guy.
Bill sighs in an exasperated tone, clearly frustrated with having to deal with Tozier as well. Suddenly, he whips around with a devious smile on his face.
"You're in this for the money, right?"
"Well it's a pretty good motivator, kid."
"Listen, if you were to rescue him the reward would be..."
"What?"
"Well, more wealth than you could imagine!"
"I don't know, I can imagine quite a bit."
"Just trust me on this."
"You better be right, kid."
Bill and Richie devise a plan to bind Chewbacca's hands and pretend he is a prisoner, as C-3PO and R2-D2 stay behind in the security room, instructing them about the logistics of the ship from a comlink. The two men lead the wookie through the halls of the space station, keeping up the act of simply being stormtroopers. Richie knows that thinking this will work out flawlessly is wishful thinking, but he can't imagine how this mission could get that much worse.
They enter the prison block and are met by three imperial guards.
The leader of the group raises his eyebrows in suspicion of the odd newcomers,"Where are you taking this...thing?"
Bill picks up on the act right away, "Prisoner transfer from cell block 1138."
The guard seems to believe Bill at first, but then quickly says, "I wasn't notified. I'll have to clear it." He turns to look through his system and contact someone in charge and the other two guards begin to approach the so called prisoner.
Suddenly, Chewbacca breaks free of his handcuffs and flings one of the guards across the room with incredible strength. Richie and Bill pick up right away and continue with the act of the crazed prisoner.
Richie shouts, "Look out! He's loose!" while simultaneously blasting the two other guards in the room. Once the guards are taken care of, the group continues to black down any security software installed in the room.
After all of the firing has come to a halt, the room is still ablaze with flashing lights and sirens coming from the command panel.
"We gotta find out which cell this prince of yours is in," Richie says, acting quickly to look for the location, "here it is: 2187."
With the newfound information, Bill sprint down the hallway in search of the cell. Richie stays back to deal with the alarm system from the control board. Richie's smart ass exterior quickly rubs off as he panics to deal with the situation at hand.
He approaches the com system and stumbles through his report, "...Uh...everything's under control. Situation normal."
"What happened?" A voice crackles through the system.
"Uh...had a slight weapon malfunction. But, uh, everything's perfectly alright now. We're fine...uh...we're all fine here...now. Uh...how are you?" Richie cringes at himself from his poor choice of words. He knows that he just fucked them over even more.
"We're sending a squad up."
"Uh negative! negative! That won't be necessary. It's not quite safe to come up here yet. I don't think that's a good idea," Richie panics.
"Who is this? What's your operating number?" The voice demands.
Richie fumbles with that question and decides on picking up his blaster instead and blasting the com system to put the conversation to rest.
"Boring conversation anyway," Richie harshly jokes to himself before yelling down the hall, "Bill, we're going to have company!"
Prince Eddie is brought back to reality from his cell door sliding open. He had previously decided to let himself rest and close his eyes for a little bit after he had been badly tortured by his captors. Sleeping on a cold, hard, slab of rock wasn't the best way to ride off his high, but anything was better than feeling excruciating pain.
Truthfully, Eddie's heart skipped a beat when the trooper entered his cell. He knew that Vader was either going to torture him further or get rid of him since he wasn't helping the Empire out in any way. When the trooper walks in, Eddie is very worn out but still ready to fight for his life. But instead of being met with a stone cold clone, the trooper seems to hesitate for a second. He shuffles around almost humanistically and Eddie somehow has a feeling that this isn't the typical soldier.
"Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?" Eddie sasses as he lays femininely upon his bed.
The trooper seems a bit taken aback and confused before shaking his head and pulling off his helmet. Beneath the suit is a regular man around the same age as Eddie. Eddie is in no way attracted to this man, but he can tell that the man is someone Eddie could easily look up to and admire. He has reddish brown hair that's swept to the side but had been tussled by his helmet. He has fairly long features with a wide set jawline. The man looks confident, scared, and confused all at once.
"I'm Bill Denbrough. I'm here to rescue you."
Eddie begins to sit up a bit, but still refuses to trust this random guy, "You're who?"
"I'm here to rescue you. I've got your R2 unit. I'm here with Mike Hanlon."
With that name, Eddie shoots up from his spot on the bed. "Mike Hanlon? Where is he?" Eddie rapidly questions.
Bill doesn't offer answer, but instead ushers Eddie out of the room, "Come on!"
The two rush down the hall towards the main exit but stop in their steps when they hear a commotion coming from the elevator. Two other figures stand in the room with Eddie and Bill. One of them being a large wookie with a blaster in hand, but the other man seems to grab even more attention than the creature. The other guy is also dressed in a trooper uniform but had removed his helmet. Eddie automatically notices the man's height and lengthy figure. All of his facial features are sharp and prominent from his cheekbones, to his nose, and to his jawline. He works quickly to blast the incoming Imperial guards that had blasted into the room.
Eddie and Bill back further down the hall to retreat from the line of fire, but Eddie can't help but be mesmerized by the stranger. He works with the wookie as a team to take down the troopers that seem to be flooding into the room. They back their way down the hallway to meet up with Eddie and Bill. Eddie is harshly brought out of his daydream when he suddenly realizes that his so-called saviors are just as lost and confused as he is.
The four of them run further down the hall while the troopers seem to slow down in their advance.
"Can't get out that way," the man says matter-of-factly, as if this isn't a huge problem.
"Looks like you managed to cut off our only escape route," Eddie decides to snap at the man for his mistake.
"Maybe you'd like it back in your cell, Your Highness?" The man quickly sasses back.
Before Eddie can continue with the inappropriately timed banter, a blast comes barreling down the hallway towards their heads and the group is reminded of their present danger. The four of them hug the wall and hide behind a slight lip of the infrastructure, both of the strangers blasting back at the troopers.
Bill tries to contact the droids but quickly declares, "There isn't any other way out!" while getting out his own blaster too.
The handsome man continues to fight off the troopers while yelling, "I can't hold 'em off forever! Now what?"
Eddie turns to the stranger and sasses, "This is some rescue. You came in here, but you didn't have a plan for getting out?"
"He's the brains, sweetheart!" The man sasses back.
With that comment, Eddie grabs the blaster from Bill's hands and shoots at a nearby grate to a garbage shoot.
"What the hell are you doing?" The man rushingly yells.
Eddie jumps out from the wall with the blaster still in hand and says, "Somebody has to save our skins!" As he crosses the short distance to the grate, he blasts down the hall at more of the troopers.
"Into the garbage shoot, fly boy!" Eddie says to the man before quickly squeezing through the now open grate.
Author’s Note:
So a lot of the dialogue is going to be almost word for word from the movie at first because I need to get the storyline across and actually have it make sense. In the next chapter it will be more in depth when I can actually grow on the relationship between Eddie and Richie.
Also I did so much fucking research to make sure the intro chapter actually fit in with the story line of A New Hope but honestly I loved it. It was so much fun.
