been working on this project for the past 3 years where i try to find and seek out unnerving/disturbing/~scary~ music, like the horror movie equivalent of songs and albums. and it's led me to some really great records and is what got me into metal (for better or for worse.....), and i knew going in that some artists/genres were going to be sketchy but Bro why did no one warn me about power electronics. that genre is literally swarming with nazis and racist/misogynistic/antisemitic imagery. why are black metal and neofolk the only ones that ppl warn you about
#i need a sketch list for every genre at this point man 😭#also i think there is a big difference between a sparse dark ambient tune about self loathing and a harsh noise song abt how much a racist#is happy a genocide happened. Like yes the latter is disturbing but not for the reasons im looking for or that should be oggled at as art#that being said like BM there are a lot of great safe PE musicians who aren't horrible#but it's a shame that some of the more well known or popular acts are. Louise Brooks (Pandora's Box, Diary of a Lost Girl)—Louise Brooks started off as a dancer and went to work in the Follies before going to Hollywood. Disappointed with her roles there, she went to Germany and proceeded to make Pandora's Box, the first film to show a lesbian on-screen (not her but one of her many doomed admirers in the film), and Diary of a Lost Girl, both of which are considered two of the greatest films of the 20th century. She helped popularize the bob and natural acting, acting far more subtly than her contemporaries who treated the camera as a stage audience. After the collapse of her film career and a remarkably rough patch as a high-end sex worker, she was rediscovered and did film criticism, notably "Lulu in Hollywood," which Rodger Ebert called "indispensable." Also, christ. Look at her.
Vilma Bánky (The Son of the Sheik, The Eagle)—She's famous now for being a silent star ruined by the transition to talkies, unlike her frequent co-star Ronald Colman. I think that's a shame, as she has a real vivaciousness and charm in The Winning of Barbara Worth. In this *checks notes* western about environmental engineering, she rides around the desert and gets wooed by both Colman and a young Gary Cooper (good for her dot gif.) Even in stills from films that are sadly lost, I think there is a distinctive warmth and individuality to her. Also she is extremely hot in her extremely pre-Code dress in The Magic Flame.
This is round 2 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]
Louise Brooks:
"Defined the style of the modern flapper. A gaze that could make a stone fall in love."
"Louise Brooks left a legend far greater than her real achievement as an actress, but even today few people have seen her films. In our own time, the fascination with Brooks seems to have begun in 1979 with a profile by Kenneth Tynan in the New Yorker, which revealed that the actress who made her last movie in 1938 was alive and living in Rochester, N.Y. Such was the power of Tynan's prose that people began to seek out her existing films, primarily this one, to discover what the fuss was about. What we see here is a healthy young woman -- she was 23 when the film was released -- with whom the camera, under G.W. Pabst's influence, is fascinated. There is a deep paradox in Brooks and her career: the American girl who found success in the troubled Europe between two wars; the vivid personality who briefly dazzled two continents but faded into obscurity; the liberated woman who had affairs with such prominent men as CBS founder William S. Paley as well as with women including (by her account) Greta Garbo but wound up a solitary recluse. And all of this seems perfectly in keeping with her most celebrated role in Pandora's Box. For despite her bright vitality, her flashing dark eyes and brilliant smile, Brooks's Lulu becomes the ultimate femme fatale, careering her way toward destruction, not only of her lovers but eventually of herself."
"She invented having bangs to indicate that you have borderline personality disorder"
"chances are if youve ever seen a "flapper girl" character or even just art of a generic flapper type made after the 20s it was based on her appearance - particularly the bob hairstyle! she had some pretty rough experiences through her life before during and after her tumultuous acting career which ended in 1938 but she made it to the 80s, wrote an autobiography and did a lot of interviews that she was never afraid of being honest in about her own life or peers of the age, and apparently was unabashed about some affairs she had with well known women (including greta garbo!!)"
"She read Proust and Schopenhauer on set between sets. She was one of the original flappers/new women of the 1920s. She had a one night stand with Garbo and was the inspiration for Sally Bowles in Cabaret. Truly a stone cold fox."
"on her wikipedia page it says her biographer said she "loved women as a homosexual man, rather than as a lesbian, would love them" and while i have no idea if this is true or not i thought that was very gender of her"
"despite being american she was big in german expressionist films and thus her aesthetic was unmatched!!"
So far ahead of her time in regard to portraying complicated women. Timeless elegance. "I learned to act by watching Martha Graham dance, and I learned to dance by watching Charlie Chaplin act.” - Louise Brooks
Vilma Bánky:
I love Vilma Bánky! She was called "the Hungarian Rhapsody" and apparently had a thick Hungarian accent which I think is cute. Several men fighting over the same women can be very cliche but when I saw her in The Winning of Barbara Worth (1926) I got it because my god she really is that drop dead gorgeous. She's also a wonderful actress though, expressive yet natural. I read once that seeing her in The Dark Angel (1925)—a film now seemingly lost—inspired Merle Oberon to become an actress :)
This is more of a factoid but she was apparently the women's golf champion at Wilshire Country Club through the 1940s. [link] I just think she's neat.
I love herrrrr she’s my everything. Watching her kiss Rudolph Valentino in Son of the Sheik made me so flustered I had to pause the movie to cool down. She’s the prettiest the most beautiful the most incredible woman I’ve ever seen. I could look at a picture of her for hours

William frustrates me beyond belief but I'm still so incredibly, madly in love with him. Also, reader is kinda yandere for William here as well. Reader is female.
The pale moon in the night sky starkly contrasted the glow of a freshly lit candle, its warm flames just barely reaching the parchment of paper. Her hands shook violently as (y/n) analyzed it, word for word, heart racing in her chest as she positively beamed with joy, her (e/c) blown open wide with excitement.
William had written back to her. Finally.
The two had developed a friendship a little bit over a year ago but what William remained oblivious to was that (y/n) had been helplessly in love with him for years now. The Moriarty family was well known and regarded within polite society and their status as free bachelors boosted their popularity even more so, especially amongst the women. No matter which Moriarty brother entered the room, they would turn heads and people would talk. Be it in awe or jealousy, the entire family was something worth gawking at. Truth be told, their staff was also the hot talk of the town. They were easy to talk to and friendly, Moran and Bonde in particular. That was exactly how the girl managed to step into the threshold of the house and finally have a proper word with the handsome mathematician.
Their talks started off innocent enough with William indulging her with his company every now and then. She managed to slide through the tough cracks of the mysterious man, bit by bit. She would watch him grade papers sometimes, his gaze cascaded downwards as (y/n) played the role of the dutiful young lady who was minding her own business over some hot tea.
(y/n) was many, many things and eager was one of them. This, whatever this was - it was not enough for her. More, she needs more. Having afternoon tea with William was the highlight of her day but by God, it felt as though she was going to implode!! William, ever the gentleman, never once made a move on her, no inappropriate glance, no comment, nothing. Be it day or night William was constantly keeping her at the edge of her seat, wondering whether or not he would actually do something. Sometimes, if she was lucky, she could feel the touch of his slender fingers against her own as they both reach for the sugar. Their eyes would meet and William would give her a sweet smile, never actually recoiling in shame or embarrassment. Did this mean he was fond of her? Was she overanalyzing it? She couldn't know, William was such a hard person to get a good read on. (y/n) knew that no one was perfect in this world but in her eyes, William was more brilliant than the stars that hung high in the night sky.
Letting out a sigh, (y/n) hugs his letter close to her chest as she looks out the open window, the crisp air giving her a sense of relief as it blew into the room and onto her hot skin. It was so late in the evening, no one was awake now. What even was the point of all this?
Unbeknownst to her, William was wide awake in his office as he looked out his own window, his cheek resting on the palm of his hand as a wicked little smirk made its way onto his face. Several papers were sprawled out in front of him, all of which were your letters. William took great pleasure in reading them all from time to time and analyzing everything you said. You tried so hard to act like a perfect little noblewoman, always having a polite smile on your face and carefully choosing each word you dared to utter. He felt a little bad, toying with you like this, keeping you dancing on the very edge until you finally crack.
William was desperate to see the real you, the oh so jealous (y/n) who did her best to hide her seething rage in front of the other ladies who gushed about William right in front of you. He never failed to spot the way you bite the inside of your cheek, the rage in your eyes was so evident but oh so precious. He was selfish, keeping you on his tight leash like this but it was all worth it in the end. He was driving you mad with desire and before long, he was sure that you are close to your breaking point.
He can't wait to have you, all of you.
There was nothing in the world that could stop him.

You get kai and bonnie so much together and individually everything you say fits them in canon so well it's too bad the writers really fumbled with them because when kai showed up he was a breath of fresh air and the best part about him is he's all about bonnie that was new and realistic bonkai was their last shot at getting the vampire diaries interest back up again
AH thank you so much for this lovely message, you're so sweet!! Yes, it really is such a shame the writers fumbled Bonkai bc it rly did seem like they had some great ideas there in the beginning, but the execution fell flat :( I feel like Kai was a breath of fresh air not just for us fans but also the cast & crew! U could rly feel their spark of new excitement for a dying show when kai showed up bc i think they all sensed that he was unique and different from the tired, recycled plotlines they'd had since S4.
Ian in particular seemed much more interested in his scenes when Kai was around (and much more lifeless when he wasn't) and Bonnie ofc was *given* much more interesting scenes when Kai was around, compared to prior seasons. Even Alaric & Jo, who started S6 as rick's new boring romance of the season, became relevant, layered and interesting bc of their links to Kai. Like rick loved to play the hero & act like damon was morally beneath him in S6 but his need to protect Jo from Kai brought out a selfish streak that made him go behind Jo & her fam's back to make shady deals w Damon & Kai as long as it kept Jo safe! Even Jo was revealed to be quite crafty considering her backstory of how she tricked & betrayed Kai in 1994, which made her much more interesting than her early role as rick's bland gf.
Even Liv & Luke were (im sorry) SO BORING in S5 but 1000x more interesting in S6 once their story got linked to Kai. His existence single-handedly linked so many disjointed characters & plotlines from previous seasons (like why'd they even bring Rick back after dying in S3? His relationship w Jo (and by extension, Kai) was the only thing that made him relevant for the rest of the goddamn show)! Even the Heretics were introduced to the show through KAI & the gemini/siphoner lore and fully lost steam as soon as Kai wasn't there to make 'em interesting!
As for Kai's links to Bonnie, ya i agree she rly was their last chance to make things interesting bc they'd already given Elena & Caroline "dark" romances that fans were too attached to to accept anything else (see: Delena being forced to stay together; Steroline forever being overshadowed in most fans' minds by Klaroline) so giving Elena & Caroline new pairings would've disappointed fans, whereas Bonnie was a blank slate they could've gone WILD with bc none of her canon pairings had strongly attached fans... yet they gave Elena & Caroline new romances anyway and scrapped Bon's romance with Kai :)))
That is what felt malicious. In S6 alone, they gave Elena who ALREADY HAD DAMON the new guy Liam, then gave Caroline the same guy Liam, Enzo (briefly) AND Stefan, whereas Bon *almost* got Kai & *fully* lost Jeremy in S6. ??? Any writer who paid half as much attention to her fans as Plague did (considering how much ott fan-service she wrote into tvd & how many twitter fights she got into w fans whose ships she disapproved of) HAD to have known her fans wouldn't accept Caroline/Enzo, Care/Stef, Care/Liam or Elena/Liam as much as they loved Care/Klaus & Elena/Damon. Yet she did it anyway bc she preferred LOSING FANS to giving Bonnie someone interesting!
She even planned Kai to be Bon's love interest in S6 bc she thought he wouldn't be popular w fans & instantly torpedoed that once she noticed fans' love for him bc, as I said before, Plague PAID ATTENTION to her fans' reactions. So fans having lukewarm feelings about Steroline was enough to get 'em married, but fans LIKING Kai was enough to get Bonkai axed. It's a common joke that Plague saw Caroline as her self-insert (neurotic, hyper-organized blonde control-freak) which is why she dated more men than even Elena. But I think a large chunk of tvd's white teen girl fans saw Care as a self-insert too (bc w each subsequent season, Caroline was increasingly written & designed that way, which is why fans turned on tvd's original self-insert, Elena, & worshipped Care instead).
Her "im never the one, im not perfect like elena" insecurities made her a blank canvas for (white) girls to see themselves in, which is why she wins Miss Mystic Falls, why she's a privileged Founding Fam member, why she gets to dress fancy & go to Mikaelson balls that have nothing to do w her, why she gets ALL the men, why she becomes the 1st vampire to be pregnant, why she gets to marry Stefan (then instantly lose him so she can go kiss Klaus in the spin-off), why she gets to be tvd's last vampire standing, why she repeatedly gets to have her cake and eat it too. By presenting Elena as "perfect/ideal" & Caroline as an "underdog," fans naturally sympathized more with Care's "struggle" (even tho she repeatedly got EVERYTHING!) Based on this, Plague refused to let ppl like Klaus date Bonnie (which would've made sense) but shoved him w Caroline (which didn't make narrative sense) bc that gave her & white fans the chance to see themselves in Care & feel like THEY were dating Klaus.
(Btw I wanna add that I actually do like & enjoy Caroline! This is a critique of the shadiness that went into *writing* Caroline, not a critique of Caroline herself)
Similarly, Kai was allowed to want Bonnie as long as fans didn't like him, but once he got popular, Plague killed Bonkai bc she believed that she & her (white) fans wouldn't be able to see themselves in Bonnie and feel like THEY were the ones dating Kai. But Kai was not Klaus, Stefan, Damon, Enzo or Kol. His character was CONCEIVED w Bonnie in mind to the point that erasing his obsession w her would make him not even feel like KAI anymore. And that wouldn't work bc fans wanted gucci kai, not walmart kai. Also, his general personality quirks were just not the type that would vibe w Caroline. Chris Wood said it himself, "Kai likes to be the one who talks, he doesn't like to listen, so I think Caroline might make him wanna snap her neck & move on" bc Caroline ALSO likes to talk. So writing him w Care would change Kai too much & writing him w Elena was not an option bc Delena was set in stone & Nina was leaving. So, how'd plague have her cake & eat it too? She refused to let Bon have Kai, and bc there was no other white girl who made sense for him, she kept Kai eternally single so white fans could eternally imagine themselves w him.
And uk what's the worst part? I don't believe all white fans would've necessarily struggled to see themselves in Bonnie if she'd dated Kai. I think Bonnie being the ACTUAL underdog struggler of the show made her very relatable to people, regardless of what your race is (esp bc tvd rarely addressed her race or centered any plotlines on it). I think Plague's own subconscious biases just made it impossible for her to fathom seeing herself in a PoC character, which is why she wrongly assumed all her majority white fans worked the same way & letting Bonkai happen would've disappointed them & made them stop watching. (But that being said, even if it was just a "business decision" to her... isn't it funny how disappointing masses of white klaroline fans didn't stop her from tossing Care at stef, enzo, whoever she wanted, but ONLY stopped her when it came to Bonnie's ships (bc she was looking for excuses to scrap 'em anyway)? Oh plagueee ur biases are showing, girlieee)

The Guardians’s Personalities
In Legends Reborn, the Guardians realize that they are no longer generals or bound by Neo Arcadia anymore. Since I talked about X, now it’s their turn. Besides how they feel and their personalities in this era of peace, they were able to get loose at last.
Harpuia is, not surprisingly, the one who had the hardest time adjusting to his new life as a newly formed body. Especially having to stop calling his father “Master X” because boy was that awkward as fuck considering that he’s his child rather than a soldier. So it’s decided that he’s going to call him Father for now. He misses his hands, but he has adjusted to his wings and how shockingly prehensile and flexible they are.
He tends to be strict, a bit of an organized neat freak, still acts like a leader, having to herd his chaotic younger siblings around, still retains his sense of Justice but has mellowed out, and has picked up hobbies that stimulate his mind Like puzzles, reading books (his favorites are extremely trashy, smutty romance books; it’s his guilty pleasure if you bring this up, he WILL DESTROY YOU), and playing strategy games that require more thought (He, Barrell, X, and surprisingly, Teiso?? play chest). Since learning how to fly with his new arms, he has developed some bird-like habits. He mostly enjoys flying around to see everything, but it makes him feel liberated and not trapped in the grand Gilded cage of Neo Arcadia.
He tends to do more jobs out in the field as a digger or an organizer. But also, due to his sense of justice, he tends to apprehend dangerous criminals. (The Bonnes are surprisingly good at providing him with some valuable information; he and Teiso tend to have a Rivalry/frenemy relationship.)
Leviathan has adjusted very well to her new life, at least. Aside from getting used to being a carbonate most of the time,. Levi absolutely revels in her newly discovered freedom, being more carefree than she used to be. She is loving the new body. It may be soft, but it still has fishy traits, but dammit, she kills it. Aside from the fact that she can't survive desserts for shit, she’ll complain through the entire goddamn trip if they do not prepare a cooling spot for her. She doesn't really miss her previous life as a general, but she holds a level of shame about it. She happily calls X her dad.
She's very sassy, playful, and somewhat of a diva with a mischievous streak. Still holding her passion for all sea life (yes, even the more fucked-up ones), she often happily states facts about them if asked. She hates getting dirty (she gets dramatic as fuck about) and has a preference for the water and the sea, which gives her more power since the world is flooded. She's a bit of a fashion fan, often going clothes shopping or, at times (with Phantom’s help), making clothes to match her taste. She's the gossip gal, spilling the latest tea on someone with her gal pals or her dad. She still holds her sadistic side but only uses it when it's necessary (like protecting her sweet little brother and her loved ones). Despite how she acts most of the time, she’s genuine with her words and is a big sister figure to folks who need help.
As a deep sea digger, she's known to stay in underwater ruins for long periods of time to seek and recover treasure and supplies, which is really damn good. Because of her looks (it's fucking obvious who she got it from) and love of fashion, she has a modeling gig going. Frankly, she's a bit popular, but not supermodel-level, but well known. Also, due to her flirtatious attitude, she tends to charm men and women to get what she wants (to Harpuia’s dismay).
Fefnir: It was weird to adjust to this new life for himself. At first, he complained about how limited this body was in contrast to his stronger one. But over time, it has seen its advantages and then quickly eased up. The carefree life of Terra was really weird to get used to, but he has developed new ways to excite himself. His once hot-blooded temper has significantly lowered now that he can fight for fun! Bro is loving his draconic traits because they make him already cooler. His affinity for fire has allowed him to be resistant to heat (especially on the hottest days or deserts, when he gets even more excited), but he will die in the freezing cold. Straight up calls and pops.
He’s a bold, loud, passionate, and surprisingly laid-back individual. Who still enjoys fighting despite the peaceful era of Terra? His imposing stature tends to scare people away, but the truth is, he’s laid back and holds a surprising amount of emotional intelligence. Surprisingly solid advice. His bluntness may come off as rude, but he really does mean well for others. Always saying what comes out of his mind. He has a lot of knowledge of agriculture thanks to his time as a general. To the point that he has developed a green thumb for plants. He often hears Levi's gossip for the shits and giggles. He’s really content with his current life on Terra.
Out of everyone in the family aside from Volnutt, he’s very much a full-time digger. Most of his job is just him doing high-level digs to fight off dangerous reaverbots or fighting off air pirates. He doesn’t mind doing hard work for people.
Phantom, there’s not much to say about how much he feels about the adjustment period, but the truth is, he’s content with the circumstances surrounding his resurrection. But there was at one point where he had light sensitivity with his new eyes for a time that caused him to wear sunglasses. He’s quiet about the changes compared to his siblings (they probably have to be more direct with him). Shockingly, he’s finally able to express his repressed emotions after so long, but in very subtle ways that only his family can notice. Especially his sillier, softer side, because it turns out that despite his quiet, mature personality, Phantom is young. Especially when it comes to pranks and games, he’s quite the trickster. He’s older than Volnutt but actually younger than his brothers and sister. Like Harpuia, he prefers to call X "Father.”.
In terms of his personality, his quiet, cautious, yet loyal nature is still present . But he’s really social and shy, awkward, and loathes being surrounded by massive crowds. This is why he prefers to stay in the shadows compared to anyone else. But still, he’s fiercely loyal to his family and friends. One aspect of him is that he’s capable of being goofy and mischievous. He enjoys scaring people by suddenly appearing without warning and pulling small little pranks. Also saying the most wild shit that ever came out of his mouth. Often than not, he enjoys being the cause of chaos, just for the hell of it. He’s known to be a fantastic listener, hearing things out and providing some insight. He’s also kind of a famous cryptid; his ninja abilities allow him to disappear into the shadows. Seeing folks make conspiracy theories about him is the funniest sh*t ever.
Currently, it's unknown what he’s up to these days, aside from helping his father around the house or doing patrols. However, he loves working part-time at a local cat cafe. I absolutely loved a cat from that cafe named Butterscotch. But it's hard to be the weirdest cryptid of all terra.

Olá olá, I am back back again (I survived a week-long exam and 4 hours of sleep)
I know in theory LGB has an Appalachian accent in the movie I remember seeing some complaints from the audience <3 (isn't it fascinating and horrible when the audience confirms why a certain trait in a character is vital and revolutionary?)
It's really a shame that Sejanus and LGB barely interact in the book because I know they would have understood each other very well (and YES they really are alike, again the big difference between them is that Sejanus most of the time wouldn't stand for doing an act while LGB has survived from doing one but unlike Snowflake, she still strives for her humanity and doing good like Sejanus. UGH MAKE THEM BESTIES).
While I hate to say it because the movie turned the games into an entertaining spectacle I agree that it had several of the best changes from the book. Reaper scene was simply powerful and yes Wovey snakes scene was absolutely heartbreaking. Even Coral with the role she was given felt more like a whole person than in the text and from what I hear there are many deleted scenes of her and how she goes about developing her strategy that I really hoped one day they might see the light of day.
I also have so much to say about the arena scene. There are so many minor changes that make me freak out in a bad way. First of all that Ma Plinth's presence in the Snow's apartment is removed. As you say I think they could have kept that moment to give more punch to Sejanus' last words and it really didn't take up much time.
Then the implications of Sejanus bribing a guard, when in the book it's all to his credit and even a way to one-up Gaul herself that HE WILL GET IN THERE. And finally that: Sejanus wasn't really going to protest, he didn't expect anyone to come to his rescue, because he NEVER PLANTED TO GET OUT ALIVE (another change that made me groan in the movie but well I got plenty of forehead touch at least but I agree with everything you say about Sejanus.
Because yes even if I want to rip the heads off of everyone who does bad takes of Sejanus in tiktok, I certainly can't blame them, in the movie he is that naive and spoiled which is sad.
Talking more about the changes to me Coriolanus from the book and the movie are two different people in my head, there are so many changes between the two and their arcs are so different that it's hard to reconcile them (for me) in the same person tbh (I only get to do that from the idea: movie is Snow propaganda: its how people SEE him, etc).
I think Coriolanus story along with the decision to make Sejanus not know about the weapons are the clearest evidence of one of the biggest flaws I think the movie has (and at the same time I think it's impossible that we could get a big budget adaptation without this flaw) and that is how much it fears being political (Not that it doesn't prompt reflection on certain serious issues and of course they are not afraid to talk about Panem's policies but from there to other policies...)
Coriolanus as a prejudiced and oppressive teenager who has the opportunity to see up close different perspectives than those he has known from subjects he contributes to oppressing and even experiences firsthand the injustices of the system decides in the end not to change his mind and become not only complicit but an active agent in the flawed and inhumane system is not an alien story. It is the daily life of many people. In fact I'm sure Coriolanus vocalizing some of his more deranged thoughts in the movie wouldn't have scared people as much as many believe and would still be as popular just because Tom played him.
While Sejanus on the other hand is clearly one of the voices of reason in the book, he is one of the few who denounces injustices and tries to do something. If Sejanus knew about the weapons and even bought them, it would be a way of legitimizing violent resistance as an appropriate measure and valid to change the system and well it is USA. That doesn't suit them so Sejanus had to be downgraded to what a "decent rebel" would be: a no violent and smart one BUT WHO KNOWS. I DONT
Finishing this movie issue I agree that it was criminal that they took Lysistrata away from us but I think you put it best in words the matter with the academy students in the movie. They clearly tried to make most of the mentors mean and cruel to their tributes so that Coriolanus stands out as the "good" and humane one.
I have to agree that it should be a requirement to read the book and look I usually believe in book adaptations can be their own world apart but I ask on my knees to the only movie fans who want to have an opinion about Sejanus - LGB or write about them to READ THE BOOK.
Now let's talk about fics. I'm curious do you have some favorite fics in the fandom? I have a few that I think are excellent (😝 I had my fav fics, you've written several of them haha but there are also others like this fic where Coriolanus has a dream with LGB and Sejanus after killing them and with ultra symbolic details. Or the fic where Coriolanus was poisoned with the same poison that causes you halucinations in THG and sees Sejanus, etc) but I want to know what you read buddy. Btw I hope you have read the second one shot of that baby Sejanus series in the war during D2 because for me it is canon now that the Plinth suffered an attack in post war times in D2. I am very normal...
Also I'm sorting out still my thoughts on carcara but you destroyed me emotionally 🥰🥰 hope that sums it up well. Me crying for Strabo? That's another level. Speaking of the Plinth, Ma Plinth's ideas contributing in the games ate direct to the Quarter Quell fic idea that is in building. I had vagues ideas and some phrases that I want to use without any context:
"Of all my creations, none has reached perfection like Coriolanus Snow." Volumnia Gaul.
"Snow men die in District 12." Tigris Snow.
I will stop the rambling, lets focus better on our beautiful latam au where no one dies pls.
I'm happy that you liked my sejarcus ideas (maybe I'll write them hehe), I didn't stop thinking about them either, I need them to do a dance at school and baby Sejanus knows how to dance because his mother is Vesta but he's embarrassed to do it in front of the others and Marcus is there encouraging him that he can do it. And yesiii I ADORE the idea of sejarcus on playdates, pls not Sejanus giving away his stuffed animals just because Marcus said he would like to have one. Marcus refusing to take the bunny named plum.
"Sejanus it's your stuff." "But mr. plum wants to go with you." 🙏🙏
About the Christmas dinners YES I AGREE 😭😭😭😭 in fact I think it might be worse with Strabo sober jajsks at least when he is drunk he talks funny and I think if you get Sejanus out of the room he will end up complaining to a piece of furniture about how ungrateful his son is but Strabo sober and Sejanus will end up in an endless 10 hour debate. Everyone else had escaped to the courtyard to try to quiet their voices with the music AND YET YOU CAN HEAR THEM.
Pls. Coriolanus making a fool of himself <3 my beloved. First by trying to convince his father-in-law to make him his heir and then by stepping on his mother-in-law's foot. I propose it's on the birthday of one of Sejanus' cousins and he thought it was a good time to introduce his boyfriend (too Argentinian to exist) and when Vesta takes Coryo to the dance floor, his whole family tries so hard not to laugh at him but they lost it in the end 🤭 but ultimately that will lead to some fun and adorable private lessons with lot of kisses
Coriolanus and Strabo being closet telenovelas fans is such a fun concept. And yes my god Sejanus would have an existential crisis the moment they start talking. PLS I CAN SEE SOMETHING LIKE THEM EVEN TALKING AT THE SAME TIME HAPPENING 😭😭
C: But I think
S: But I think
C: Oh excuse me Mr. Plinth
S: No, no young Snow. Speak
*Sejanus shouting in the background*
By the way. Marcus would also be Boricua? Because that would be cool but there's also something in my head screaming cubano idk. Also I know I said it was our funny au but I have a couple of crazy ideas in my head about snowjanus because if everyone is from Latin America and we assume this happens in today's normal USA and Coriolanus thinks he is more European than the rest. I thought about maybe he lied to everyone about having Italian heritage (that's why my name is from Ancient Roma) and embodying the experience of feeling ashamed of your origins and meeting Sejanus which is the opposite and kind of like giving him character development?
👁️👄👁️
Damn it, maybe I really need my 8 hours of sleep
Music recommendation?
Well it's more like a poem:
Cabras -Little Jesus
The type of things in my mind are TBOSAS coded in some way also the type of things I believe Sejanus could read.
I hope you are well when you read this Juli. And let me say I love your designs, we need to start a campaign to get people to show their book designs more often, I love seeing how the characters look in everyone's heads.
Ah I'll get back to you in a bit about your beautiful ocs.
OLAAA!!! I'm so happy to see you again 🥹 exams SUCK, take care buddie, hope you rest well and sleep after them <3
no way ppl complained abt lgb's accent on the movie...... I swear to god that there are few audiences that are so determinated to prove the point of the original work like the thg/tbosas audience, it's quite insane. how do you go out from a movie that criticizes xenophobia and prejudice and then proceeds to... complain abt lucy gray's accent?? media literacy is really dead 😭
yessssss I really wishe they could've had more time together, because they have so much in common :(( lucy gray at least have the covey, but I really wished sejanus could hang out with someone who could actually understand him in the sense of what it means not being able to fit in, and lucy gray is just- they would be perfect friends if coriolanus wasn't around. AND YES!!! I always joke that coriolanus made it too obvious that he had type bc sejanus and lucy gray are too alike, but non-ironically, I think it's interesting how alike they are in storytelling terms (specially bc their final decision is the opposite; sejanus runs to coriolanus and it kills him, and lucy gray runs away from him... and it still "kills" her). I've seen a post around here that made a lot of sense, where the person said that sejanus is lucy gray if she had more privilege and a chance of keeping her innocence, while lucy gray is sejanus if he was forced to mature earlier and learn how to survive. ughhhh they should've been besties and slander coriolanus together
yesssss, plus, ironically, I feel like the movie made the tributes even more human than the book (tbosas has a big difference regarding thg, which is: we actually know the names of EVERY. SINGLE. TRIBUTE). everything regarding the tributes in the movie, I thought it was fantastic (ofc I missed some of them, like the D3 guys, but I understand they chose to focus on just some tributes). also, I don't remember in the book the plot regarding treech leaving lamina behind to get with coral's group, and I thought that was another interesting details on giving more personality and backstory to the tributes. reaper and dill, too, loved how they made him protect her and care for her, it was really precious. and, oh my god, I forgot talking abt that on the other post, but CORAL IN GENERAL!!! I really loved coral in the movie, and her last line and the way it was delivered was HEARTBREAKING. yesssss really wish one day we can see the deleted scenes, because FOR SURE there are plenty (I mean.... I would beg on my knees for the 4 hrs cut....)
the thing with tbosas is that there are plenty of small details, small things, that make a big difference on how you view characters and how you view the story. and the thing about the movie is: they got rid of these small details. and THAT'S the biggest problem with the arena scene: these small details really impacted some aspects of the storytelling. and you put them very well, I couldn't agree more 😭 I HAD EVEN FORGOT ABT THE THING WITH THE GUARD. but yeaaaaaaah people who saw the movie don't really get that he was straight up trying to kill himself... think abt rose on titanic when she was about to jump from that ship. it was pure despair, and she didn't ask for the guy to try to come and save her and risk his life in the proccess. anyway, these small changes regarding sejanus are so weird man, because are small things that actually impact on the storytelling and how the audience view him. getting rid of his relationship with ma, getting rid of the fact that he's suicidal, implying he bribed a guard. idk, it just feels really weird to me, specially bc sejanus is a foil to coriolanus.
(I try to not think a lot abt the arena scene bc I REALLY like the forehead touch, love how in the movie that's a thing coriolanus does to the people he shows to love: sejanus, tigris, lucy gray, and only these three).
yes, I absolutely agree with you regarding coriolanus!! I've said before that coriolanus in the movie is almost sweet to me. he was brave when he entered that car with the tributes, he risked his life entering that arena after the explosions for lucy gray, he laughed at sejanus' comebacks at arachne and festus. he has his fucked up moments, but mostly, it really seemed like a corrupt society corrupting a decent, but ambitious and a tad little mean young boy. they really dracomalfoy-ed him 😭 (and yessss that's how I usually explain the movie to ppl who didn't read the book, that coriolanus seems sweet because you don't know what the hell he's thinking and how nasty his thoughts are).
AND YES!!! YES, YES, YES!!! YOU ARE SO ON POINT!!! the adaptation of a highly political book FEARS BEING POLITICAL.
okay, so, I talked about this before, but context is extremely important to understand some works, and that's the case of tbosas: it's a book that was published in 2020, a highly political and tense time for the usa. but the most worrying about these times was that young people, young boys were falling under dangerous and extreme political propaganda from the far right. privileged straight white boys from working class falling under this kind of agenda and propaganda, even though they for sure had the ways to search up and understand that this was wrong, that this was oppression and they are just tools for a system much bigger than them. maybe they were raised like this, raised to believe in those indocrinated views and ways that they should have more right than everyone else, that they are better than everyone else... but what if they had the chance to change? to know people who are different from them and are the target of this oppressive system? would they change? can they change?
it sounds familiar, doesn't it?
coriolanus is bigoted because he was raised by adults who are bigoted in an environment full of bigotry (okay that boys who are raised by their grandmas are already red flags, but his grandma in particular, my GOD, no surprise she raised a fascist). but he has contact with people who are oppressed. he knows sejanus in first hand, who even though lives in the capitol, is relentlessly harassed and bullied for being different, for being district. then he meets lucy gray, and he has the opportunity to talk directly to someone who had their whole family killed by this cruel system and who faces the cruelty against the districts in first hand, living in the districts. and even coriolanus himself isn't safe from the capitol's oppression: he knows hunger, he knows poverty.
and what he does with all of this? he gets sejanus killed, tries to kill lucy gray and becomes a dictator to make panem even more oppressive. and even when he's in love with lucy gray, is so bizarre how he REFUSES to see district people as people, because in his head, in order for him to be in love with lucy gray, then it's because she isn't district: it's because she doesn't belong in the districts. he does a whole mental gymnastic regarding this, on how different she is, on how that justifies him being attracted to her.
he chooses to be that way.
yes, the society he lives in plays a big part on how he's molded, but in the end... these are his choices. and that's pretty much what suzanne collins (imo) wanted to pass with this book. it's almost a cautionary tale.
(also you're so right lmao people would still love coriolanus just bc it's tom playing him 😭 and it's quite insane bc it proves the point of the book, that coriolanus is able to get away with a lot of things exactly because he's attractive)
and yessss!!! sejanus is the moral compass of the book, whenever a discussion is getting too morally grey, he appears and makes the reader come back to reality and understand that it doesn't matter this is dystopia, because THIS. ISN'T. RIGHT. there's a whole ass line that says that sejanus is moved by the urge of doing the right thing, always. so if that boy was willing to get his hand on guns, it's because it was the right thing to do. so yeah, I'm disappointed but not really surprised they changed this detail, specially when you consider everything that's going on... it just makes me really sad because in the current context, sejanus is such an important character, and he really had everything to be a fan favourite. but they changed his storyline to make it seem that having these kind of ideals are too absurd or too naive :(
anyways, love a guy who knows that violent resistance is valid resistance (rip sejanus, you would've loved diarios de motocicleta by che, I just know it) <3
I'm still mourning over lysistrata, I was living for her and jessup's dynamic, they were so cute and precious.... like lucy gray and coriolanus, but without the toxicity that makes lucy gray and coriolanus who they are lmao. I also believe that movies have the right to be interpretated in a sole way!!! but for this I open an exception bc lgb and sejanus are characters that are so special to me, I can't STAND when I see someone slandering them but they're clearly talking about the movie, like, YOU DON'T KNOW THEM LIKE I DO!!! LEAVE THEM ALONE OR READ THE BOOK 😭
I'm actually so honored that some of your fav fics are some of mine omg I'm going to cry 🥹 ALSO SEND ME THE LINK OF THESE PLS, I'M BEGGING. and YES, I'VE READ THE SECOND ONE-SHOT, really, the plinths during the rebellion are now living rent free on my head... and it was so well written- loved it, loved it, loved it, I live for hcs and character studies abt the plinths. but okay, let's go to some of my fav fics from this fandom (most of the stuff I read are character studies tbh, but also, it's worth saying I think I've read every single sejarcus fanfic on the tag, so- I have a few of them too bc I'm that sad 😭):
the golden heart & the golden voice. this is a series actually, it has only two works, but it's focused on sejanus and lucy gray interacting. it's so good!!! very bittersweet, but I live for these bairdplinth crumbs <3
and they called it puppy love. a very old fanfic, from the time tbosas was first published, and it's a character study regarding sejanus' dynamics with marcus and coriolanus. it's very bittersweet and heartbreaking, but so good.
ma. another old one that's SO GOOD, this is a character study from sejanus' pov during his execution and some of his thoughts regarding coriolanus and his ma. it's as heartbreaking as it sounds.
parallel lines. I won't say much about this one, just that it damaged me emotionally and changed the chemistry of my brain. it's really worth reading tho because it's one of the best things I've read.
(also, I love reading modern aus with different plots and stuff, but I've found so few :( but it's okay because the canon compliant fics are amazing, just mentioning it)
I was going to say I was so happy you enjoyed it, but then I remembered the "destroyed emotionally" part, but I'm glad you enjoyed it despite the colateral damage!!! 😭 (gonna be honest, I felt sad writing this fic, it's just that I feel so bad over complicated father-son relationships). YESSSSSS I'M ACTUALLY SO EXCITED TO READ THAT FIC FROM YOU, if you ever post it, tag me, knock on my door, wake me up in the middle of the night because I need to read it!!! (that line from gaul goes so insanely HARD, like my god-)
always say this, but again: LATAM AU MY BELOVED <33 (there's something so comforting in knowing these characters wouldn't say spongebob but bob esponja /jk
please, if you write it, tell me so I can read it, bc I would live for it and go feral over that concept 🙏 AAAAAAAA THIS IS JUST SO ADORABLE OMG 😭 now, hear me out: sejanus is terrified to dance, and to encourage him, marcus gives him a little kiss on the cheek. does it help? actually no because sejanus is so shocked and embarassed that now he can't move in front of the school, but it was worth the try! AND AGAIN, ANOTHER ADORABLE THOUGHT, sejanus is that kind of child who basically have every toy he wishes, so when marcus tells him the plushies are sejanus', he's like "but my pa can give me another!!! :)" and that's how marcus ends up with a lot of expensive plushies who were actually sejanus' (he promised to take care of every single one, so he has these plushies until nowadays <3 sejanus finds it adorable when he goes to marcus' room and finds ALL of his old plushies still there)
drunk strabo is probably so funny oh my god, he'll start complaining to a random painting about how sejanus grew up and is an ungrateful brat that doesn't value his opportunities, then you give him 30 minutes and he'll be on the verge of tears because he misses when sejanus was a baby so much. but you're actually so right 😭 you can probably hear sejanus and strabo screaming at each other from, like, a house away (vesta is so tired, someone save her please
coriolanus is that kind of guy that goes to meet his in-laws and he's not even nervous because he thinks so high of himself, OF COURSE he'll do good, of course mr. plinth will adore him (they have so much in common!!!) and mrs. plinth will love him. but then he meets his in-laws and mr. plinth kinda hates him and mrs. plinth thinks he's a little silly. it's even funnier if you think it's a birthday from a baby cousin from sejanus, so the house is full of children and they're all seeing coriolanus failing miserably <3 but next time he has the opportunity to dance with ma plinth and he's READY this time (sejanus is so proud
I'M SCREAMINGGGGGGG it's even funnier if you imagine that strabo isn't that fond of coriolanus at first 😭 he thinks sejanus deserves better and that boy isn't suited for him, so strabo is there complaining abt coriolanus and sejanus is there hearing like "hm. oh, yeah. sure. I wonder if I know someone who's just like that."
(yeah, it's the generational bad taste speaking louder)
BUDDIE. BUDDIEEEEEE, let me tell one fun fact. when I was writing the carrie au, and I included marcus, I made him boricua too, but I was like "he gives me cuban vibes.... idk why, but he gives....." (atp I already knew he was going to be latino too tho); I ended up going with making marcus boricua bc I wanted to give sejanus someone to bond with the same background as him (bc of the story and etc, etc) but marcus just gives cuban vibes, idk why, you're so right!!! and also, TELL ME MORE ABT THESE IDEAS BC I LOVE THEM!!! I love this so much!!!! and coriolanus' dynamic with sejanus is even more interesting, because while coriolanus gives in 100% to assimilation, sejanus resists it with everything he can. have you watched in the heights, the musical? because I can totally see the latam au working in that setting!!! coriolanus lived in the usa for a while now in a small town and always lied abt his origins, but he moves to new york for college and now he's living in a neighbourhood FULL of latin-americans and he can't run from it anymore, no matter how hard he tries (and plus, he meets lucy gray and sejanus, who are SO different from him regarding how they face assimilation; sejanus specifically is so politically engaged, he WILL force coriolanus to become a better person)
I've listened to it and LOVED IT, tbosas has a very twisted fairytale-like sense to me, and it just fits so much!!!
(also, I won't explain why and I'm not sure if it makes sense, but it just gives my snowbairdplinth- specifically, coriolanus' pov about these two poor souls)
I'm doing well, besides being a bit anxious bc my classes are going to start and it's my first year in college and stuff, just my anxiety getting the best of me 😭 hope you're doing well too, and hope you rest and take care after these exams, and sleep well too!! 🫶
TYSMMMM 🥹 and absolutely agree!!! one thing I adore from suzanne collins' writing is that she leaves the description of some characters' appearences to be quite vague, so you're free to imagine them how you desire (and this caught my attention, specifically, because when the first images of tbosas dropped, I remember someone commenting that they were surprised with sejanus' casting bc they imagined him to be black, and yeah, you can totally imagine him the way you want bc there's not a very specific description of him, and the same goes for A LOT of characters, even lucy gray isn't that specific regarding her appearence). I love the cast of the movie, but at the same time, it would be lovely to see how each person imagine these characters bc I know we would see so many different interpretations and thoughts <3
(also, I'll answer your ask abt my ocs tomorrow, now I really have to go to bed, but tysm for sending this ask, I love talking to you sm)
#tbosas#tbosas movie#sejanus plinth#coriolanus snow#president snow#ask#analysis#sort of#I'm just so in love with the concept of the latam au man

Sterek AUs/crossovers (loosley based on other media) I need:
.
.
I
John Tucker Must Die
.
.
Were they are both in high-school or college. Stiles is an intelligent, quiet and for most people, except his best friend Scott, invisible guy. Derek, Scotts older brother, on the other hand, is quite the opposite. He's captain of the basketball team, the most popular guy in school and to be honest, kind of an ass. He's also unfairly good-looking and definitely aware of it. Girls and guys alike are lining up to date him and he has no problem playing multiple of them...at the same time. They're only in it for his looks and don't actually care about him anyways so what's the issue? Stiles, who works in one of the restaurants Derek likes to take his dates to, witnesses him coming in with several different people, who most definitely don't know about each other, judging by how each of them are bragging about having bagged THE Derek Hale at school. He gives Derek a piece of his mind about it because seriously does the guy have no shame? Derek's kind of unable to listen to what he's saying tho, because who the hell is this cute guy thats not scared to sass him and is there a chance he goes to the same school as him? The next day at school Dereks affairs all learn of each other and poor Stiles, who coincidentally is present, because that's just his luck, is pulled into it. He admittedly does feel bad for them but he still would've preferred not to be made the center piece of their revenge plans. They insist he make Derek fall in love with him, using their knowledge about him, to then go ahead and break up with him, thereby humiliating him. Stiles agrees that someone like Derek needs to be put in his place and taught a lesson, but still he's not exactly sure he wants to be cruel like that, even to a prick like Hale. He unfortunately has attracted Derek's attention already anyways, so he kind of stumbles into things. He eventually agrees to go on a date with Derek, and okay, there is a lot more to this guys then what he originally believed. It's obvious to Stiles that at first Derek tries to land with him using his fake, charming superficial golden boy persona, but he makes it known immediately that this shit doesn't work with him. After some time he gets to know more and more layers of Derek and oh god he's in trouble because asshole Derek he could handle just fine, but sweet, vulnerable, nerdy and shy Derek...that's a whole other story. He realises pretty quickly that he doesn't want to continue with the plan anymore, but the others are unwilling to let him get out. Why should this nerdy looser get Derek, what's so special about him anyways? He only was able to make Derek interested in him because of their insider knowledge! That all of their elaborate plans actually failed spectacularly (mainly due to Stiles clumsiness...) and that in reality it simply was Stiles himself who made Derek fall for him, they decidedly ignore. Because yes, Stiles' personal charme is quite exceptional and Derek finds himself first in disbelief over the boy and then quickly unable to not fall for him. Its also the first time in a long time, he feels like he can be himself with someone, like he's seen for the person he is and doesn't have to put on an act in order to be liked. He's happy, they both are, so naturally that's when shit goes down the drain. Stiles was ready to tell Derek, but the others do so first. There's quite some heartbreak then, on both sides, but even though Derek calls it off with Stiles, he doesn't go back to his old days. It might have been fake on his part, but real or not, Stiles did change who Derek was as a person and how he saw himself. It takes both of them some time and healing (and an aaawful lot of pining plus some meddling from Scott, who likes his brother again, ever since he started seeing Stiles and who would've thought that?) to finally make up and get back together. This time for good.
Are "important" details different from the original? Well yes, but let's be real, this version would be so much hotter. Also don't tell me the electro shock scene doesn't scream Stiles Stilinski! Anyways can someone please write a 100k fic on this please??

'Andrew Scott is an incredible actor with some serious credits in his career, but in all of his performances, he put in an enormous effort to create convincing and emotionally rich characters. Scott was born in Dublin, Ireland, and developed a passion for acting from an early age. At 6 years old, he appeared in a TV commercial for a popular porridge brand in Ireland. He then pursued his passion for acting by joining a theater group where he continued to perform in increasingly larger productions before working in Ireland's most famous playhouse, the Abbey Theater.
After that, Scott moved to London to pursue his career onscreen and in theater. Having been an actor for decades already, Scott's big break came when he landed the role of Moriarty in the BBC drama series, Sherlock. This role changed the trajectory of Scott's career and saw him playing in bigger and more prominent roles, as a seasoned actor with a wealth of talent who had finally earned the recognition he deserved. Since then, he has been cast in more than 50 credited roles, as opposed to less than 20 in the first 15 years of his career.
10. Catherine Called Birdy
Lord Rollo
Starting strong, Scott's role in the medieval comedy film, Catherine Called Birdy, highlights a side of his acting that he is profoundly talented at; comedy. The film stars Bella Ramsey as young Birdy, who seeks to be free from her father's control in her life, as he intends to marry her off to the wealthiest suitor to improve his finances. Scott plays Lord Rollo, Birdy's father, and he is well-suited to the role. His comic timing and ability to portray an awkward and struggling father is entertaining and a side of Scott that is not seen enough.
9. Black Mirror
Chris Gillhaney
Black Mirror is an anthology series by Charlie Brooker that explores the harmful and dangerous spread of technology and its rapid advancement, which has received widespread praise. Each episode features a new cast and a brand new story highlighting another disturbing side of possible future technologies, and Scott appeared as the lead in Black Mirror season 5, episode 2, "Smithereens." Scott plays a grieving rideshare driver who lost his child in an accident caused by his social media addiction, which everyone using the platform similarly experiences. It's dark and emotional, and perfectly done by the talented Andrew Scott.
8. 1917
Lieutenant Leslie
Scott appears in the groundbreaking war film that is presented as a single continuous moment on the frontlines of war. His role is limited, with him appearing for a total of about five minutes, but in that small time, he makes an impression. He serves to help the young soldiers, Schofield and Blake by directing them onward on their important mission. Scott is convincing as a wearied Lieutenant who has been beaten down by terrible war and suffering and stands out in a film full of perfectly executed moments.
7. Handsome Devil
Dan Sherry
Handsome Devil is an Irish movie that explores themes of private school snobbery, sports fanaticism, and how homosexuality fits into that world. Considering Scott is himself a gay Irish man, this movie likely holds some personal significance for him. Scott plays a homosexual teacher who helps the boys at the center of the story to accept themselves without shame, as he grows confident enough to make his sexuality publicly known to the headmaster of the school as well. The film is emotional and heartwarming, and Scott delivers an incredible performance which was certainly made better by his experiences.
6. Modern Love
Tobin
Modern Love is an Amazon Original series based on a New York Times weekly column of the same name. Each episode explores a different side of love in all of its many forms, from familial and platonic, to romantic and intimate. Scott appears in episodes 7 and 8 of season 1 as Tobin, a gay man, who, with his partner, is hoping to adopt a baby. Olivia Cooke plays a young pregnant woman who appears to be the answer to the couple's prayers and the episode explores the relationships that follow.
5. Pride
Gethin Roberts
While many of Scott's roles see him adopt a bravado and confidence that he exudes throughout, the role of Gethin Roberts in 2014's Pride was a very different case. Gethin, along with his partner, Jonathan, are among the first to support the miners during a political strike. Gethin is very quiet but maintains strong beliefs about right and wrong, but unfortunately, the community he lives in is strongly opposed to him and his lifestyle. Gethin is beaten up and hospitalized, but throughout, Scott delivers a moving performance through quiet confidence.
4. His Dark Materials
Colonel John (Jopari) Parry
The TV adaptation of the books, His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman, was a runaway success for HBO. In the series, Scott had a fairly prominent role as a recurring cast member, John Parry. Parry served in the military before accidentally traveling to Lyra's world and developing his skills as a talented Shaman. Scott brilliantly conveys real grit and importance to a role that is likely the most unrealistic thing he has appeared in to date. The role may be supernatural, but it is also one of the most captivating performances of Scott's on TV.
3. Fleabag
The Priest
Scott features prominently in the second season of the hit Amazon Original comedy series Fleabag as the Priest. Unlike regular priests around the UK, Scott's character is prone to swearing and making inappropriate jokes. He is a charismatic and charming character who often enjoys his own company and declares that he has no real friends of his own. Once again, featuring Scott as a comedy actor, he has a clear talent and disposition for delivering these lines and performing in a more lighthearted role. While his character is a figure of authority, much of that is disarmed by Scott's performance.
2. Sherlock
Jim Moriarty
The role that skyrocketed Scott's career remains one of his very best roles and performances today. As the incredibly intelligent villain, Jim Moriarty in Sherlock, Scott provided the perfect contrast to the tortured genius that is Sherlock Holmes. Not only do Scott's Moriarty and Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock have a wonderful chemistry and rhythm whenever they appear together, but Scott also puts everything into this role. From his uniquely high voice to his physical acting, and his line delivery and facial expressions, Scott was perfectly cast and completely owned the role.
1. All Of Us Strangers
Adam
One of Scott's most recent projects, All of Us Strangers, was nominated for six BAFTAs and has received incredible praise from many film critics. The movie explores themes of loss and love, as Adam struggles to resolve memories of his youth and his parents who passed away when he was young, and build a life for himself. However, that all changes when Adam forms a relationship with his neighbor, Harry. Andrew Scott is magnificent, expertly creating a layered character who is putting the pieces of his life together in an incredible and unique film, and proving his incredible talents.'

Propaganda
Geraldine Farrar (Carmen, Joan the Woman, The Woman God Forgot)— I guess technically she was more of an opera star, but she was the leading lady for a ton of major silent films and she’s got two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for both music and film so I think she counts as a film star
Clara Bow (It, Wings)—The original It Girl (literally), Clara was the epitome of a flapper film star. She was obviously a looker, but it was her acting that won over hearts. Watch the movie It (no clowns) to get a sense of her charms. And while she's most known for her silents, (including Wings, the winner of the first ever Best Picture Academy award) she did make some talkies! Contrary to popular belief, sound films didn't ruin her career; she reportedly just hated the process of making them. She had a really interesting background and it's a shame she's not as well remembered as others of her time.
This is round 1 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]
Clara Bow:
She has gorgeous doe eyes, how can you not love her?
The original it girl! Flapper icon! She's sooo fun and charming and confident, it just shines through any film or picture you see of her.
I love love love her genderbendy boy style and her cute twinkly performances!! watch wings i s2g she absolutely brings it
She's literally THE It Girl. Like actually, she's the term's namesake. She was an extremely prolific silent film actress with a reputation for wild behavior who defined the 20s flapper era. Her boyish frame, androgynous style, and red curly hair were widely emulated.
Geraldine Farrar:
#clara bow#geraldine farrar#do you think we mentioned the words 'it girl' enough in the propaganda#hotvintagepoll#ladies 1#fuck that old woman

i'm glad that feminism did what it did for women's rights, but i think it needs to die now. there's still misogyny to deal with of course, but any more "feminism" past where we are now i feel like will just make things worse. already i am filled with dread when i see a feminism tag because feminism doesn't actually mean gender rights anymore.
i wish more people fought for gender equality, i wish there were more people working to deinternalize misogyny and misandry both. i wish people would stop saying stuff like "non-men" as if masculinity is evil and non-binary people never have a connection to it, as if amab enbies and transfems and transmascs and non-binary men and multigender people don't exist.
i am tired of seeing my transfem friend ashamed and self loathing about her body (notably different from dysphoria) just because it doesn't meet some bullshit feminist standard. i am tired of feeling like i can't be excited to transition because my masculinity isn't something to be proud of. i am so so tired of feeling like anyone who isn't a cis white woman with high estrogen and only wants to date other cis white women with high estrogen is a predator or shameful or evil or needs to make up for it by trying to conform to a standard that will never accept them.
feminism is meant to support people against misogyny, which of course includes women, and people with afab bodies, and people with feminine presentation. but... like.... lately it's gotten so well known and popular that now it's just full of terfs and tirfs that use it as an excuse to perpetuate misandry and.... it not only makes gender inequality worse, defeating the purpose of the thing in the first place, it also perpetuates misandry, which is just.... i can't. i can't associate with that label anymore. even if i flipped it around and decided to be a feminist and "masculinist" at once (can't even imagine the backlash I'd get from trying to use that label) I just. it's still segregating. it's still divisive and enbyphobic.
this isn't a middle school playground, i am sick of people trying to play "boys versus girls" in politics or imply that penises or being male-aligned somehow gives you cooties. i'm also sick of people acting like girls are weak and can't do anything but like obviously that's a more well-known issue. i am just...tired.

Escort Website
Why do you have escort sites in your porn directory ?
I am really only passionate about two things in life, Porn and Escorts. Since the days of backpage I was hooked on getting escorts. Once Backpage shut down I've been scrambling to find new escort sites for myself and my peeps. I feel like it's my honor and duty as The Porn Guy to share my knowledge and expertise to find and rank the best escort sites.
What do local escorts charge ?
Escorts in the US charge on average 150$ – 200$ for half an hour and 200$ – 300$ for a 1 hour session. It is also common to find escorts posting “quick visits'' which means 15-20 minutes or less. You could find these for 40$-100$ depending on how desperate the escort is to get business. These are on the more popular sites like Listcrawler and Skipthegames. On the higher end when you go on escort sites like Eros or Slixa then you're looking at around 500$ per hour.
There are so many Escort Websites in 2022! Which site do i pick?
Let me tell yeah how it works, I put the escort sites with the most popularity at the top. Youll find the most babes posting ads on these sites, Then i added some specific sites for rub & tugs, TS trannies, 40$ whores, high end prostitutes and heck even virgins. I then went out of my way travelled the globe and found the most popular escort sites from all over the world. So no matter where you are on this planet, I got your back!
How do i know these are the best escort sites ?
Unlike other dudes on the web I only find the best and list the best escort sites. Escorts are one thing that i am really passionate about. I put in the work to study and find all the top escort sites in the world. I only listed the ones with the highest traffic from the most credible sources. At the same time i threw in a few specialty niche escort sites. Like for specific regions, shemales, virgins and even just strictly rub and tugs.
Are there local escorts near me ?
Well unless you live deep in butt fuck nowhere , I am pretty sure there are escorts near you! Keep in mind this is the oldest profession in the world. (Little known fact) Jesus was born just 1 block away from a brothel. If you cant find a escort near you from my list then you have to move your hick ass to the city because where i live there are tons of escorts near me!
Hey Porn Guy can i find escort services from Ts escorts?
If you aren't looking for your average call girl, or maybe female escorts are just not for you, then i have your back my friend! The truth is there is most likely a variety of local escorts near you. TS escorts are becoming widely popular now a days given the demand . Pornhub is proving this TS escort fetish is getting some serious traction now a days! If you want to go get a dick in your ass then your not alone! You'll find a few good shemale escort sites to choose from in my escort directory.
Porn Guy how do i get laid if prostitution is illegal ?
In most countries around the world and in the USA, prostitution is illegal. Sexual services cant be discussed or paid for. However the act of sex between 2 adults is totally ok . Keep in mind when you hire an escort its for “companionship". But trust me she'll probably be the freakiest and most satisfying companion you have ever met, who'll put your wife or GF to shame in the sheets.
How do i assure she will lick my balls while sticking her finger up my ass?
Hold your horses there cowboy! A lot of these chicks don't like to talk heat shit over the phone for obvious legal reasons. If you directly talk about sexual services she will most likely ignore you or hang up the phone. You need to learn your self some common acronyms when discussing anything sexual with an escort… Ok this one is on me; “rim play"
What's it like to get a Escort?
As you can imagine I've been with tons of local escorts and escorts all over the world. I've hired these calls girls from various agencies, right out of strip clubs, rub and tugs, bathhouses, massage parlors. You name it. Getting an escort is really a beautiful experience. Imagine a nice new beautiful moist flower in front of your face just ready to get pounded until you blow a load in it. One commonality is when you arrive to see an escort they will do whatever it takes to make you feel comfortable and like a king, Sure different escorts have different personalities, but their aim goal is always to please you.
Escort Sites
If your bored ass is asking me… Get An escort! For what !? ….Well, just stay tuned, I will try to get my hands off my cock and devote some attention to making an explanation. Say, you are in a new city or a familiar one and want to spend time with some of the prettiest and sexiest girls to be had. Then you simply check out Porn Guy's top escort sites page, pick any one of the reliable escort sites in my stash and start dialing digits!
These babes will usually be dressed to kill and can show you all around the city, with you both having enough fun to fill up several lifetimes. You can fuck your escort till she’s nearly comatose, but not all escorts offer sex, so remember that and ask first before putting your hand under her dress and twiddling with her moist twat!
Escorts come in just about every imaginable shape, size, and color, plus all types of physical attributes. You can book some on the streets, while for others you need to make arrangements with an escort agency. And yes, an escort is not a prostitute, as she is hired mostly to keep you entertained, rather than to fuck your brains out of that Mandigo that freely and rather menacingly swings in your shorts!
Call Girls Taking care of business!
For you businessmen, escorts provide an opportunity to hire a pretty lady and show her off to everyone that matters, including your boss. Even better, nothing stops you from hiring these babes when you go to visit your parents in another city and have them pretend to be your new girlfriend or lover. That comes in useful when your parents have been pestering you for long to date and produce babes like mad!
Escorts entertain and keep you company. If you are the gambling type they can go with you to your favorite casino and make you feel less lonely as you battle with Lady Luck. If you are a more laid back type, you can take one or two escorts with you to a luncheon, or picnic and there have fun under the sky. Yes, escorts have a lot of uses, with new ones being discovered all the time.
If you are the wild type, then escorts are perfectly what the doctor ordered. You can take them chicks clubbing, go on vacation with them and have them give you the kind of erotic massages that makes you feel so heavenly you could flap your wings and fly! If sex and very mind-blowing sex at that interest you, escorts are fully ready for that too and know just about every trick in the trade, plus lots more they haven’t written about yet!
Local Escorts on speed dial!
It turns out that if you have a phone you can hire a call girl. Depending where in the world you are you might have to go on a escort website represented by an agency to hire a girl. Unless your min US , Canada or really most first world countries escorts typically are independent. At the end of the day the routine is the same! Pick the perfect girl for you, pay for her, and have her meet you either at your place or wherever she is staying. The whole thing is very discrete too.
The escort agencies are usually a little more pricey but they are aright! Less chances of getting robbed or scammed. I know if i was in a third world country somewhere i would go with an agency all the way.
These Escort Girls are trained, talented and totally worth it!
See, most escorts are very highly trained and skilled and speak multiple languages. They are perfect in every way too and could give any top supermodel a run for her money. Their skills range from twerking to dancing, strip teasing, and giving sublime massages and all are entertainers who can converse with you on most topics and flatter you so well you feel like the biggest and most wonderful man in the world. And when you do get them in the sack, you will find them so tight you almost lose your mind and so expert at hard fucking that it is all you can do to hang on and not go crazy!
At the end of the day there’s no doubt at all in my mind that I would sell my soul for most of the sexy escorts I have seen, So yes, escorts are assuredly worth it, at least the ones I have hired so far. But better don’t tell my wife about that!
Picking the right escort site!
Well, I don’t really have a favorite escort site right now, as each offers something special that the others try to but fail to match. Just read my reviews, view the girls in the different escort sites, and let your dick make your choice for you. Yes, it is that simple!
And oh, if you do manage to find yourself cock-deep in one escort or the other, your wife or significant other is going to be royally pissed if you scoop up one STD or the other. So, be sure to use a condom and keep that good dick properly protected!

Body Shaming and its Effects on Today’s Society
In today’s society, peer influence, people’s thoughts, and their judgment of how we should look, and behave, have always had an impact on many of us. These judgments have led to making adjustments to everything that makes us who we are, which has led to body shaming. Due to the standards set by people on what is beautiful and what is not, what is best and what is not, we have made regrettable decisions and might’ve never known about it. Standards like hair color, weight, clothing, fashion style, age, attractiveness, and body hair have all been weighed on us to become perfect. In the long run, we tend to forget that this little detail is what sets us apart from others and makes us unique and one of a kind.
What is body shaming?
Body shaming is the act of criticizing your or someone’s physical appearance. This is a form of bullying mostly done on social media which contributes to bad self-image, low self-esteem, lack of self-confidence, and more mental issues. Unfortunately, it is an act that is very noticeable on today’s social media. Body shaming leads to a lot of image humiliation and mental degrading, it is usually, but not limited to fat and height shaming. Some acts of body shaming include shaming tattoos and piercing, boy shape, height, muscularity, and thinness.
Body shaming is of many kinds and types which has been affecting our society at large. Nowadays, social media and tv have set a lot of standards before viewing yourself as beautiful or close to it. Beauty standards like being slim, with blue eyes, tall, straight hair, and smooth pale skin have been set as the image of perfection in our minds. So, we tend to spend a lot of time hating ourselves for our shortcomings. Most people tend to be ashamed of their body either due to their height, age weight, and more, always wishing they could fit in and be like everyone else, or like social media models or celebrities. Unfortunately, today’s society's beliefs are mainly targeted at one’s appearance and attractiveness and have been made a very crucial detail to relationships and interpersonal interaction.
Back in the days, body shaming had no value, due to the fact that being fat meant you were wealthy and well fed, and nobody cared about body shape or body size. Everyone was happy with what they got and always found ways to live with it. But nowadays, social media has been a medium in which image perfection has gained popularity, and widespread. With older women wanting to look young and beautiful again, younger women wanting to fit in, and trying to fit in the beauty size created by brands, celebrities, and media. Men want to look attractive and perfect, all genders dieting and willing to go an extra mile to get perfection and beauty standards.
Body shaming begins when one is not sure of their self and has a distorted perception of one’s body which leads to low self-esteem and one’s aim to accomplish body perfection. Body shaming leads to wrong decisions like extreme strict diets, emotional distress, self-harming, rigid exercises, cosmetic procedures, and mental disorders. There are many ways and measures to counter body shaming and make society more about body image promotion and one’s uniqueness which have been put to action by the appropriate health and mental officials.
Overcoming body shaming
Overcoming the impact of body shaming is a plan that requires time and effort, but the outcome of these efforts is sure to be helpful on your journey
A few ways to overcome body shaming include:
stop evaluating or talking about people’s bodies. Everyone is unique in their own way.
Learn more about yourself, and know more about your strengths.
Disengage negative body talks, and try to look at the positives of your body
Love yourself more.
Learn to compliment body shapes and types.
Be compassionate and speak up.
Go for therapy.
That would be all from us.
Get yourself a mood-changing beret here.
Learn more about the creator of our berets here.

Trump The Bible Salesman: The End Must Be Nie
Donald Trump is selling $60 bibles to the American public. If you wanted to witness the lowest point of this saga and American popular culture this is pretty close. This guy has no shame because he has a complete absence of integrity in the first place. Trump would sell his own mother if there was a buck in it. He cheats at golf, constantly, which defeats the whole purpose of playing the game. Trump the bible salesman: The end must be nie. The United States of America has become an international laughing stock. Photo by Karolina Grabowska on Pexels.com
How Low Can Donald Trump Go?
The love of Trump has to be founded on his decade of celebrity on TV. Deluded Americans have confused reality with reality TV. Believing in a compulsive liar and narcissist is a strange cult to follow. Trump selling bibles can be viewed as a desperate act or a weirdly American return to one’s roots. I think of Great Depression era salesmen selling bibles. The lowest of the low times and the selling of hope. Trump should have been a game show host – this is his true metier. He could have spruiked his rich mix of lies and ridiculous statements without damaging the nation that spawned him. Photo by Pixabay on Pexels.com
Golden Sneakers & Sixty Buck Bibles
Trump has been peddling golden sneakers too. Surely there is something in the bible about such dichotomies? "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles? So, every sound tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears evil fruit. A sound tree cannot bear evil fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will know them by their fruits." - (Matthew 7. 15-20) Right now, Donald Trump is definitely a ravenous wolf, ravenous for your money. Found guilty of massive fraud in his business dealings. Found guilty of defaming a woman he raped and defaming her some more. These civil findings have cost him around half a billion dollars. This is why we see Donald hawking sneakers and bibles to the schmucks that follow him. The faithful have shut their minds and eyes to the facts before them. They will go to their graves believing the evil fruit Trump serves them. This is the sure sign of a downfall of a civilisation, when folk do not care to know the difference between truth and lies. Historians wonder at how such great civilisations can fall, like the Romans who had conquered half the known world. We can see the why and the how in what is happening in America at the moment. Ordinary people lose the ability to see what is what via the extreme influence of their beliefs. You cannot turn away from progress and seek the past – this is a recipe for a quick demise. Turning away from the challenges of the future to try and claw back the past is throughout history a sure sign of the imminent destruction of a civilisation. “The former president said every American needs to have a Bible in their home — and he has many copies available. “It’s my favorite book,” he said, later adding, “We have to bring Christianity back into our lives and back into what will be again a great nation.” The $60 Bible is the King James Version will include lyrics from Greenwood’s “God Bless the U.S.A.,” as well as the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence and the Pledge of Allegiance.” - (https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/4557605-trump-god-bless-usa-bibles/) The Death Of Democracy & Rise Of Autocracy False prophets peddling the politics of grievance, like Trump, are hastening the collapse of America. Democracy has always been the great experiment bubbling on the stove. De Tocqueville knew it and had the excesses and failures of the French Revolution to enrich his view of the nascent America. We have the extraordinary circumstances of a presidential race between a grifter and a very old man. The orange Jesus selling sixty buck bibles vs a fairly decent Joe Biden. A nation, which has the led the world for a century or more, now challenged by the rise of China and India not too far behind. Probably, the hawks and money men want a change from a democracy to an autocracy so that they can compete with China. Totalitarian regimes are easier to manage militarily and, perhaps, economically in the 21C. The economic superpower status of the USA has always been maintained via its military advantage over all other comers. The End Is Nie For America Trump the bible salesman: The end must be nie. The old testament is largely a potted history of the Jewish people and their adversaries. Dynasties and family histories designed in the telling to pump up the tyres of these oft benighted folk. The end of times and the dystopian view of America that Trump is pushing is well suited by a bible selling false prophet. The MAGA line demands an a priori acceptance of a spoiled America. An America betrayed by immoral liberals and lefties. These overfed fools who have never faced war or invasion on their lands, apart from their own Civil War, are indulging in dangerous fancies. The Trump cult is entrenching division down the old slaver state lines. A failed coup – the January 6th insurrection has pitted the militias and their supporters against the state, once already. Donald Trump has promised to free the gaoled insurrectionists. Politics has gazumped the rule of law it seems. The world is witnessing the ugly, white supremacist side of American culture and this time it is no Hollywood movie. Guns and money are the two great touchstones of America. Trump, the Teflon Don, has evaded criminal convictions but been bitten by civil proceedings and big fines. Only money talks in the USA. Get your MAGA bible now! I wasn't expecting the cast to be at the TCA press tour because besides attending the winter event in 2020 all they ever got were mentions of the renewals year after year. Of course ABC used the last late spot of their time to give The Good Doctor a little farewell (besides their renewed and likely to renew shows earlier on)
I was curious so I asked a (real lol) friend who works at Deadline and writes for blogs (she wasn't there today) and she told me probably S19's situation is to be linked to GA and treated as just that. So GA members usually were there and some directive would mention 'their spin off S19 was renewed as well". This is not a excuse or anything for ABC but sharing something I always asked myself even prior to the news. She says most of the info/promo she ever received for S19 was linked to GA somehow and maybe Shondaland's first intention was to help them doing that but after so much changes on producers and showrunners and some distance from both shows things got bad for then. She doesn't understand what Krista was trying to do by not working to link them more for promo/press
Yeah I definitely wasn't expecting that this year either because they very rarely were invited to any of those things...not even Paleyfest or something like that which is such a shame. I'll never understand why they would just get pushed aside as if they weren't a successful show on the network. It was always Grey's getting the invites and I get it, they have the big brand and are the well known show all over the world but I don't get why it has to be one or the other. They really treated Station 19 like the 'little brother' spin-off show and I totally get linking them and wanting to use Grey's to help it, especially in the beginning, but it was pretty clear from Season 3 onward that Station 19 was doing very well on its own and could have been treated as such. I'm sure the showrunner change did affect some things but it still seems weird to me that they still didn't get the same promo/press treatment as other shows considering how well and popular it is, especially in recent years.
Part of me was hoping maybe they'd get to do something for the last season, whether it be a Paleyfest or some kind of thing to celebrate the show (especially with it hitting 100 episodes) but considering how ABC is just acting like they aren't even associated with the show anymore, I know it's not going to happen. It's just sad. It doesn't deserve to bow out that way as if it was just some failure of a show. The cast, crew, everyone involved, even the fans, deserve better than that.

2023 Reading Challenge. Audiobook: The X Files: Cold Cases by Joe Harris, Chris Carter and Dirk Maggs
You guys all know I love The X Files, you just have to scroll on my blog for less than a minute and you’ll see something there. I’m also an occasional enjoy-er of radio dramas, so I thought this would be the perfect pick for me for the audiobook category of my reading challenge.
This is not an audiobook in the traditional sense, but a dramatization, which features many of the actors from the classic series, including Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny, returning as Mulder and Scully. One pretty fun aspect of this production is that it acts as something of a revival to the original series, but follows a different canon to the actual TV revival, despite having been released AFTER season 10. This is because this audio drama is actually an adaptation of The X Files Season 10 comic book (don’t be confused by the fact that they have the same name, they are different).
If you haven’t watched The X Files, be aware that I am going to be talking about some of the events of the series in this review, so if you don’t want spoilers, proceed with caution.
The X Files: Cold Cases picks up after the events of the series (I’m not entirely sure where The X Files: I Want to Believe fits into the canon of this comic book, but to be honest, I try not to think about that film very much, so…), Mulder and Scully are living in Virginia under aliases, and are roped back into the X Files, after an unknown person hacks into the FBI databases, looking for information about the X Files in particular.
The story, or rather stories, are pretty fun, we get a mix of myth arc and monster of the week segments (I personally would have preferred more monster of the week segments, but that’s a gripe that I have with the series just in general), some deceased characters, like CSM and Alex Krycek return in ways that are actually quite clever, and much better than the way CSM returned in the TV revival, and we get to see the return of the classic Flukeman. The stories aren’t great, they wouldn’t rank as high as some of the best episodes of the original series, but they’re good, for the most part.
One thing though that was kind of frustrating for me is how they didn’t use the audio format to their advantage. The X Files has the potential to use audio drama in a really interesting way, and I’ll use two well known examples of other audio drama productions to illustrate this: the popular podcast Welcome to Night Vale and the absolutely iconic, classic 1938 radio drama of The War of the Worlds, narrated by the late, great Orson Welles. Both of these use audio and narration in incredibly fascinating and clever ways, with Welcome to Night Vale being presented as a local radio show in the fictional town of Night Vale, a desert town somewhere in the southwestern United States. The host, Cecil, remarks on local goings-on, including bizarre paranormal and supernatural events, which he treats as mundane. The War of the Worlds does something similar, beginning as a simulation of a normal radio program, featuring a weather report and music, before breaking news interruptions regarding an alien invasion interrupt the broadcast. I think that The X Files could have done something similar, almost like the season 7 episode X-Cops, which used the format of a normal episode of the reality show Cops to tell a story about a werewolf (which, incidentally, is one of my favourite episodes). In my opinion, The X Files shines the most when it’s being experimental, and here they play it extremely safe, not to mention that some of the dialogue just feels very unnatural, as the characters are having to over explain their actions to make up for the lack of visuals, which is a shame.
Overall, it’s worth a listen, if you’re a fan of the show and want more X Files content, but it’s not as good as X Files can be.

rant under the cut abt like. books i guess?
the weirdest thing abt andrea long chu’s article abt ottessa moshfegh and how ppl reacted to it is that like. alc didnt rlly like.. say anything that wasnt already known. like ppl knew that moshfegh put racism and fatphobia and other bigoted or “gross” themes into her work, theres literally no way u could have claimed to read her books w/o noticing that. this isn’t to say that that shouldn’t be criticized—i def think some of it should be, to an extent—but plenty of ppl had already been criticizing moshfegh for this before acl’s article, but the majority of ppl just didnt care at all bc at that point moshfegh was still popular and on social media she was the “super unhinged aesthetic girlboss woman writer” or whatever. it was only when a somewhat popular person said “man this stuff is Weird right guys” that ppl suddenly did a complete 180 and decided that they hated moshfegh bc she was Problematic Now I Guess. like, just a day ago the same ppl were talking abt how much they loved her bc she wrote abt “unhinged women” (a term im glad to see is finally dying out somewhat) and right after the alc article they acted like they were just. completely and totally blind to everything that was criticized, as if it wasnt literally in their faces the entire time, and now they’re totally dumping moshfeghs books bc the general consensus now is that shes Bad.
again i do think there are some aspects of moshfegh’s writing and some things shes said that should be criticized, im not saying shes like innocent or anything, im just saying its weird how ppl’s opinions seemed to flip on a dime overnight. it feels like no one even rlly had like. a real opinion of their own. they liked moshfegh bc ppl were pushing that “unhinged woman” persona onto her and everyone just loved that, but when one popular person is like “erm.. shes kinda problematic and talks abt shit a lot for some reason” ppl are so quick to hate her bc thats how they Should feel. i dont know i feel like a broken record but its just so weird to me. maybe im being biased bc i personally find alc and some of her opinions really weird & annoying, and i do enjoy ottessa moshfegh’s writing (though i also have my own complicated feelings abt it), but like. it still strikes me as unfair. i also found it a bit confusing how alc talked abt moshfegh’s fatphobia in her books but not abt the racism or the ableism, which were also two really big criticisms of her at the time. i dont have any particular horse in that race so i wont say more but like. if ur gonna write an entire article at least mention those two, like id say theyre pretty major
i also dont like the mindset that writing abt taboo or gross things like moshfegh does is inherently bad. now i Know that this wasnt the point alc was trying to make at all, but i feel like its something that ppl on booktok and booktwt or whatever seem to believe sometimes. sometimes ppl just write abt pathetic, bigoted, awful people and use “dirty” ways to describe things, moshfegh certainly isnt the first and she definitely wont be the last. again, i have my own criticisms of her and im not saying that she shouldn’t have been criticized for anything alc mentioned, bc i feel like that did need to be acknowledged a bit, but moshfegh’s unflinching approach to awful ppl and disgusting subjects and her swift and direct writing style is what drew me to her so much. alc wasnt rlly criticizing moshfegh for writing like this, in fact she was actually pretty complimentary abt it, but this was the sentiment that i saw a lot of “booktok” ppl having when they talked abt the article
i probably wont talk much abt alc anymore but like. abt her in general, its a shame bc i do think shes a Good Writer on an objective level. she knows how to word things eloquently and in interesting ways and how to structure her points and just how to Write Well. but i also just think shes annoying and her opinions on gender and transition just dont rub me the right way. i would go looking for those tweets she made and some paragraphs from her book “females”, but im lazy and im not gonna put in extra effort for this post that is basically just a stream of consciousness rant. but it feels like her whole philosophy around transness revolves soley around her personal experiences and how much she hates being trans. she calls another trans woman “a dumb blonde” in her book for acting feminine “in the way she should”, then goes onto say that someone’s personal identity and feelings abt their gender is “on its own, worthless” and that gender is something that “other people have to decide for you”, which is the only reason why ppl transition. she also made a tweet saying how, for political reasons, people replaced the term “real” women with “cis” women, and it wasnt said in a way that was criticizing that, it was said in a “well, this is just the way it is guys, nothing wrong with it, just face the truth” sort of way. there are a bunch of other things i found weird but honestly i formed my opinions abt her a long time ago so i cant remember it all, and again i cant be fucked to find anything right now. maybe if someone asks i’ll link to a couple articles criticizing her work
ANYWAY, back to books and how ppl treat stories abt anything disturbing or upsetting like theyre inherently bad. i think at some point i’m gonna read things have gotten worse since we last spoke. ive heard a lot of bad things abt it but unsurprisingly most of it was from booktok ppl who just. Didnt like that this horror book had horror in it, and that the horror was gross and disturbed them. i guess i cant fault them bc it probably just wasnt the sort of book theyre used to reading or like, which is fine, but dont make it seem like it’s a bug and not a feature. if it disturbed u then. like. it sort of succeeded? thats the point, its horror, it was advertised as gross and disturbing. its a shame bc from what ive heard abt it it seems like the exact kind of book id love, and the concept is so interesting to me. i guess i should hold my tongue before i read it but i feel like it gets a lot of undeserved hatred
#okok thats my rant#sorry that this was so long or if some of it didnt make any sense or wasnt worded well. i didnt rlly think much while writing this i just#-needed to dump my feelings abt this topic somewhere#txt
