He’s resting peacefully. This should still count as sleep. You pose the question in your head if you replace the pieces of something, how far until the thing is something else entirely. But he’s still alive. You find relish in that. There’s something in him that still lives.

He still has his head. Maybe, that’s all he has left of his old self. You wonder how the surgery must have gone. Of course you’ve met people who’ve changed themselves so drastically with robotics that you couldn’t recognize them after the surgeries. It’s a rebirth in ways. When you change so dramatically that you’re a different person by the end. His body’s 90% metal. 10% flesh. So, wouldn’t it be the cybernetics that win?

Despite everything. You don’t think so. Perhaps, that’s all that he needs. I think therefore I am. There’s no doubt he’s alive. Not to you, anyway. He’s brimming with human life. He’s more alive than you. Not in the same way where the question poses in your mind with other beings or creatures that change themselves so drastically. Boothill is obstinately simple.

You like that. He’s simple. The Hunt and those that follow it is straight forward. A single path. A single road. You like that you don’t have to read his intentions. You know what he wants and why.

Boothill. Galaxy Ranger. IPC Hunter. The Man who just tried to sneak into your office and put a bullet through your head like he has with many of your employees, those who’ve worked directly under you no less. You know. Most criminals don’t get this far. Not far at all past Pier Point. Oswaldo will have a riot.

If he knew he would. You’re not going to tell him.

Boothill is special.

The cowboy opens his eyes. Your personal grim reaper.

“I see you’re awake.” You smile in a loving way. If you can even manage that. People who can control their expressions make it seem so easy. Laying across his chest. You’ve opened up his core to play with his inner circuits. He must not like that though considering there’s a burning hatred in his eyes which threatens to scorch you. You glance up towards his face and sigh and ignoring the lingering, simmering, resentment. His body is heating up beneath your touch. So, maybe it resonates with his feelings, you wonder if his body steams. “We need to stop meeting like this. You’re going to make me think you’re obsessed with me.”

It’s the opposite way around. You know that. But the very idea that it isn’t causes him to lunge at you. The cowboy turns into nothing more than a blur, all the wires connected to the body collecting samples that took at least a good thirty minutes pulled from him. Some ripped from the walls, and in instants he’s on you.

“You dang—“ his hands make its way to your shoulders, you’re flipped without hesitation. his hands grasping you down, he lays on top of you. breath heavy. robots don’t breathe, though, so you try to think of another word as he catches himself and tries to make it so he’s the one on top. “— you again!?”

“I’ve been meaning to get my hands on you… you oughta’… you ANGEL!” He screeches. Music to your ears as he shakes you more like you’re more ragdoll than person. “AEONS, it’s so freaking annoying! You absolute delight! How did I lose to…”

“Thank you so much for the compliment.” You smile back. Probably the only one getting anything out of this arrangement. Pinned against the floor hand pressed tightly against your waist so you can’t struggle. He should’ve pressed it against your mouth. But it isn’t like you’re going to scream. You’re certain. Lots of women would love to be in this position you’re currently in. But it’s you. And this is far from some sweet, pure, little romantic story. You’re not delusional. You act like you are purely because it annoys him. It’s good for him to build up his rage, his discontentment because it keeps him on his toes. “I was just looking over your upgrades since the last time you invaded Pier Point. As for asking how I beat you~…”

“The electronic upgrade was not the best idea.” You smile. “If we can control your language… your body isn’t hard especially for a renowned genius like me. Have to talk to your doctor about that. You’re lucky I’m the one that found you. Where’s my thanks? If it was anyone else. They’d have torn you asunder.”

“Aeons of COURSE you Market-Phonies have something to annoy the DANGNATION out of me.” he grinds his teeth, looking around for his pistol. making a point about how dead he wants you. you can feel his grip loosen and tighten. he’s likely processing which one would get you to be quieter. “Where’d you put it? My gun. I’ve decided. I’m killing you now. Puttin’ ya out of your misery, sweet-face! You think this is rough? Think of a 9mm lead in your skull will be?”

“Cabinet.” You put on your best smile. “Is it for me?”

“Of course for you. Love you.” You didn’t take away his ability to say hate. So, he must have said something worse like an insult. You just know it’s bad because he says it in a way that’s so vitriolic it almost hurts. “You knew this was coming. I’m not going to miss my shot again. You should’ve killed me when you had the chance.”

You did know it was coming. You wished he would get the one person above you first so you could witness your boss with his brains blown out, the outcries that an Emanator of Qlipoth killed. You could have gotten wine with Diamond and laughed about it and died happy knowing the world was washed clean forever of Oswaldo Schneider.

But you can’t be so lucky. You’ll have to wish him luck. If he actually manages to kill you that is. With how things are going? You’re not making it hard.

He grabs you by the neck so you can’t struggle away to call help. The iron hands encased over your neck like a shackle isn’t a bad feeling. You almost quote as such so he might grab you a little tighter. Sadly, it seems his finger is directly over your windpipe— making talking an impossibility. He really doesn’t want you to run. Not like you would. Dragging you as he goes towards the cabinet. He presses you against the wall one-handed.

Using his other hand to peruse through your belongings. Even if you struggled. You doubt you could make a dent against the material. You’ve always been more of a pen instead of a sword guy.

It seems he’s smarter than you thought. Since, he checks the bullets in the gun. Rather show-offishly, too. He clicks the trigger against your head and nothing comes out. He counts them out, too. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

You already knew that none of the shots would ring. But here’s a certain heart-pounding feeling even if you know it’s empty. He clutches the gun even tighter till it threatens to break between his metal appendages.

Obviously, you’ve cleaned them out. He glares at you. Of course you’re the one at fault. Of course you were smart enough to know the first thing he’d do when he woke up was try to kill you. Of course you wanted to see the look on his face when he got his gun back when he realized it was empty. “Don’t you have spares? You eat them, don’t you? Just shit them out.” You smile. It’s hard to talk with his hand on your throat.

The floor hits you. Hard.

Or maybe you hit the floor.

Either way. It hurts. Your head spins. But, you collect yourself. Maybe. Dizzy people often can’t tell they’re dizzy. “You going to kill me right? You don’t need a gun to do that. To make it painful. To get your little revenge.” You’re sputtering. Aeons. It be embarrassing if you didn’t say that. If you’re slurring. Though who are you to ask for a clean death? Innocent have died in uglier ways.

“I don’t get you.” Boothil’s boot presses against your chest and juts against your lungs— “make up your mind you wanna die or not? You’re seriously flip-flopping.”

You smile back at him from the floor. “I’d rather my employees not go down with me when you’ve got to escape. Jeremy just got a promotion. You won’t die here… will you space cowboy? So, you’ll have to make your way out.”

“Might as well limit the casualties.”

“You took everything from me.” Robots don’t stumble over their words. Robots are more precise. Everything about him is human. The way he’s so sentimental, emotional at your lap, while you can do nothing but watch. “What right do you have? You have way more blood on your hands than I do.”

“You’re not wrong.” you repeat, quietly. “It’s karma. It’s justice. I’m so happy you exist. So people like me get that just-dessert.”

“I could never ever dream of it. I could never do it with my own hands.” You smile remembering where you work. Your boss. The things you never had the confidence or strength to do yourself. “So I’m glad that you did. Thank you.”

He looks down at you.

He steps back.

You already know.

Too self-aware for your own good.

Maybe you should have shut up. You already know you’ve messed it all up. The way he looks at you is a look of disgust.

“Everyone here’s so fluffed up.” he grimaces. rubbing his shoe against the floor like he’s snuffing a cigarette out. so lowly. “Anyone the IPC touches get’s gosh-dang ruined.”

You know why he did. You ruined his life. You did. So, it was only fair he did the same in return—

Reaching out— before you realize it. “Hey, wait.”

“You’re not dragging me down with you! I want you to pay I’m not letting you off easy. When we meet again. I’ll have changed this place forever. And you’ll be forced to live with yourself…!”

He doesn’t even look back at you. You wish he did.

He lets you go and he runs out the door. You hear the sounds of loud screams. Shooting guns. It turns into a blur after a few seconds. They’re going to fail to apprehend him. You hope.

On the messy floor. Your lab a wreak. You’re sure. They’ll come here. They’ll question you.

And your life will continue as always.

You’ll lie. Jade can tell. But she won’t tell on you. You hope Oswaldo doesn’t notice. He’s the tricker. If he knew. He’d laugh.

“Fuck you, too.”

You put your hands over your eyes and you just ignore everything until someone comes and gets you. You’d use the word save. But, that’s what he was meant to do.

hello! i read your last post (the one about how prosthetics aren't the only solution so people need to stop making ocs with prosthetics, or something like that idk i'm not very good at summaries) and it mentioned how prosthetics don't work like normal limbs? i have a character with a prosthetic (he's not mine) and i was wondering: what did that post mean by that? this is mostly so i can write him better :)

Hey, we don't have prosthetic-using mods so please take this with a grain of salt.

First question would be: which limb is the prosthetic for? An arm and a leg have drastically different functions, and the prosthetics for them are the same in this regard. That's also why prosthetic legs are overall much more helpful than arms - “bear weight” is a much easier task than “replace the most dexterous part of the human body that needs touch and pressure to work as intended”.

But yeah, they don't work like meat limbs because they aren't them, it's a replacement that works for some and not at all for others.

As an example, someone who has an AKA (above knee amputation) will walk fundamentally differently from someone who has a knee because of the knee factor. That's why amputations are categorized based on how many joints are or aren't there. There aren't nerves to tell the knee to bend, so the muscles that are left and gravity have to do it instead. Sometimes people get gait disorders because they suddenly have to use their hips completely differently than they used to. It's also just fundamentally harder - using a prosthetic requires significantly more energy than not. The higher the amputation, the higher the energy cost. They can also cause pain. That's why people with higher amputations will often use a wheelchair or crutches instead. Sometimes it's just not worth it.

For prosthetic arms, where do we even start? Prosthetics don't provide feeling, they don't help with tactile feedback, you don't have the dexterity of bio fingers - most hand-looking prosthetic arms won't have separate fingers because it's impossible to control. They will have a thumb and the rest of the fingers as two parts, not five. For many people, the stub is more useful than a prosthetic because it does offer these. A butcher I know uses his residual limb to hold meat in place rather than a prosthesis because it's more precise. Hands are ridiculously complicated, and prosthetics simply don't replicate that. They often make things harder, not easier. For upper-limb amputees who do need their prosthetics (for example, people with bilateral, high-level amputation might opt for them more than someone who's missing a part of one forearm) will usually tend to use hook (body-powered) prosthetics, not the “robotic bionic arm that looks like a bio arm painted silver”. And on the basis of being a hook they simply don't work the same as a hand, and they require a lot of training.

There's also the entire thing of acquiring and taking care of prosthetics; again, things you don't need to do for bio limbs. They can be astronomically expensive and for many too difficult to upkeep. Some people can't put theirs on at all, or require help to do so.

I hope this helps, I recommend you look through our #prosthetics and #limb differences tags, as well as simply interacting with amputees and learning about their experiences - if you don't know the differences between bio limbs and prosthetics you still have a lot of research to do.

8-Bit with a robot partner —

~ For starters, it took a LONG time to get 8-Bit to want anything to do with you. Much less than if you were a human, but still, you really had to bide your time with him.

~ He was very reluctant to talk past any simple small talk, and his usual speaking patterns kept his replies vague and sort of mysterious, in a way.

~ If you ever get him to open up, you’re probably the first person (robot?) to ever do so. And that’s exactly why he catches feelings for you.

~ He definitely doesn’t understand his feelings at first— he thinks that since he’s an arcade cabinet, he shouldn’t feel anything romantic. But after some soul searching and self help (google) he comes to the conclusion that he does, in fact, have a crush on you.

~ Would he ever confess to you? No. Not in a million years would he ever take the risk of losing the one person that he could talk to and rely on. Thankfully, you’re willing to take that risk!

~ When you confess to him, he is bewildered. He cannot fathom that someone would like him back. It’s a miracle he didn’t blow a fuse when you told him, whether it be in person or through any other means.

~ 8-Bit is very nervous at the start of the relationship, but he tries his best. Chances are good you would be his first for everything. But with nurturing and reassurance, he quickly gets over his anxiety after the first initial month or so.

~ He tries his hardest to keep his temper cool around you, and tells you time and time again that if he gets mad, it isn’t your fault. If he ever yelled at you, he would delete all his code immediately.

~ Despite all his rage, he loves playing co-op games with you, or just watching you play a game. As small tokens of love, he’ll buy you games you like/want, dlc, even merchandise of your favorite franchises. I wouldn’t say gift giving is his love language, he just likes spoiling you from time to time.

~ Regarding physical touch, it takes him quite a while to get used to it. You would have to start small, with just hand holding, then slowly ease your way into cuddling or anything of the sort.

~ He appreciates that your also a robot, meaning you can relate more to… whatever issues robots have. This also means 8-Bit is a lot more knowledgeable on robot first aid, and should something go wrong, he can easily patch you up.

~ Overall, it’s a lengthy process, but in the end 8-Bit does love you and cares for you a lot. It might be hard for him to properly express it, but he isn’t opposed to leaving you love notes around the place for you to find.

Lawrie with a robot partner —

~ Another stubborn, angry robot.

~ It’s real hard to talk to him. Harder than it is for 8-Bit, because Lawrie already has a best friend— Larry. He doesn’t see a need to be buddy buddy with anyone else.

~ You still try, and try… and try. Making any excuse to see him, to bring him anything he likes, help him with small errands… Yet he just sees you as an acquaintance.

~ That’s not to say he doesn’t find you attractive, or a potential partner. Oh no, he’s crushing *hard*, but he is just amazing at covering it up.

~ He gets all his gushing out to Larry, who has to bear to hear it all (he loves seeing his brother so happy).

“God, and you know what they did today?!”

“Ooo what! What!!”

“They handed me a pen when I needed it!!”

“OH MY GOD LAWRIE marry them already please”

~ The longer you stick around, the more open Lawrie gets. Slowly, over the course of a month, his little crush turns into a like. A *like like*.

~ Unlike 8-Bit, Lawrie actually *will* ask you out. But very discreetly. He asks if you would stay with him for longer, just to keep him company while sorting through files and other mundane tasks. After a week of this, he’ll finally ask you out on a date, but “just as friends”…

~ Dinner dates aren’t really… applicable to robots such as yourselves. So, you opt to roam Starr Park past his shift. He offers to pay for just about everything, since he was the one to ask you out anyway (and definitely not because he likes you haha…)

~ If you touch him at all, he’ll react with annoyance, but that is most definitely not how he feels… at all.

~ After the first date, he tells Larry all about it, who then encourages Lawrie to ask you to be his partner. Lawrie is very skeptical at first, and really doubts Larry’s advice, but goes for it anyway.

~ He asks you casually whenever your around his work, hardly batting an eye on the outside. But trust me, he’s freaking out internally. When you say yes, he genuinely gets flustered and turns red (can robots blush…?). He accidentally says “thank you”.

~ In a relationship, Lawrie isn’t all that bad. He sets in place some basic boundaries for the both of you, in an almost formal meeting delivery. This is mostly just to avoid future issues.

~ Unlike his brother, Lawrie is not very touchy, especially at first. It takes him almost two weeks to ask to hold your hand, and another week to… sort of kiss you? Whatever the robot equivalent is.

~ He isn’t one to spontaneously purchase gifts for you— he keeps that for when you two go out together. Instead, he prefers doing small acts of service for you, like taking on chores (even if you don’t live together) and bringing you drinks or food while watching movies together. He gives you prince(ss) treatment.

~ The only problems I can foresee is him being too harsh or rough at times. If you two are play fighting, he might accidentally shoot a rubber band at you too hard or hurt you in some way. He honestly doesn’t mean to, and always makes sure your okay and holds you after.

~ In all, he’s a good man. Larry is so happy his brother finally found someone, because honestly… he never thought Lawrie would.

-Pun FIENDS. They'll set each other up for the most GROAN-inducing punchlines, and they've gotten so good at communicating it subtly, nobody else on the team knows when the worst pun they've heard all week is coming until it's already struck. It's gotten to the point where one will OBVIOUSLY set the other up and the other "ignores" it, keeping everyone on their toes until way later when the punchline hits like a brick. It's psychological warfare at this point.

-Boulder can't really eat most human food, and that makes him very sad, because there's so much variety and humans always seem like they really enjoy it. He tries to live vicariously through Graham in that regard by having him describe whatever food's caught his attention. He thanks Graham for his trouble by doing the same thing with various metals, minerals and energon blends that would probably kill Graham if he tried them.

-Cuddles are frequent Graham can be a little shy about physical affection, but he really does love when Boulder holds him. Boulder worries that his armor and treads are uncomfortable to a soft organic, so he'll usually have Graham in his arms, snuggled up in a thick, fuzzy blanket. He keeps one in his cab for that exact reason.

-Boulder likes playing with Graham's hair a lot. It's cute, and he's fascinated by the fuzzy texture. He finds himself idly petting Graham when he's nearby pretty often. It's just kind of relaxing. Graham isnt totally sure of how to feel about his giant robot boyfriend petting him like a small animal, but he's pretty sure he likes it?

-Boulder can be a little insecure about how he looks. Conventional Cybertronian attractiveness leans more towards sleek, trim, speedy, complex optics and biolights, luxury altmodes and minimal kibble. Boulder has approximately... None of that. It's not really a standard he holds anyone else to, just something he's internalized that's a little hard to unlearn. Sometimes it seems like he sees beauty in everything and everyone, except himself. Graham, lacking in the same internalized cultural biases, can't see much of anything EXCEPT beauty in Boulder. He's big, strong, capable, soft-spoken and intelligent, he's a mechanical marvel and the way he can rearrange himself into something else entirely is stunning. He is something wonderful and powerful, and he could never see such a spectacle of a person as an eyesore. Once he picks up on Boulder's hangups, he makes it his mission to help him see that.

-Graham knows he spends a lot of time in his own head, so when he's thinking about Boulder and thinks up something he wants to ask him, or something sweet he wants to say to him, he'll write it on a sticky note so he wont assume he already said it and forget.

-They were both pretty worried about the reaction from the team when they first got together. Graham hadn't realized he liked guys until he fell for Boulder, and neither of them knew how a cross-species relationship would be seen, by the Burns family OR the other Bots. They thought it'd be best to hide the relationship until they were confident enough to announce it. Or, at least, they TRIED to hide it. Neither is particularly subtle or a good liar, so the whole affair was pretty much an open secret. (And then became FULLY open info when everyone sort of acting like they didn't know drove Blades crazy and he finally asked what the deal was. Mortifying, but it did take a lot of pressure off for Graham and Boulder when they got to find out everyone was cool with it.)

Hello!!! I just started Lies of P and I was wondering if I could get a one shot of Pinocchio having a crush on the reader who is a companion on his adventures. She has two daggers and a katana as her weapons and is ready to lay down her life for Pinocchio even though he fears losing her. He gets nervous when the reader scouts ahead before going on their next adventure. One night, he gets very cuddly and wrapped his arms around the reader to keep her close and presses kisses wear he can reach. Fluffy please!! Thank you in advance!

The living puppet, Pinocchio, encounters a young woman named Y/N during his adventures through the ruined city of Krat, where he witnesses her battle against a horde of robotic puppets with her weapons.

After she finished battling them, she ended up collapsing due to exhaustion, and Pinocchio took her to his safe place to let her rest until she regained her energy and strength.

He noticed that she was injured after noticing the blood stains on her clothing, so he treated them carefully without waking her and carefully observing her with various questions regarding herself.

Once she had woken up, she looked at her bandages and gently asked him if he was the one who treated her injuries, and he replied with a yes. She thanks him, and the two introduced themselves before she asked him to let herself join him on his journey because she wanted to repay him for his help.

He lets her join him because he finds her to be quite skilled with her weapons and strength after seeing her fight and also finds her attractive based on her soft beauty despite her injuries.

As the duo goes through Krat during their journey, fighting against the puppets while being pursued by the 4 masked fiends who seemed to want Pinocchio dead and making new allies such as Lampwick, lady Sophia and Eugenia.

Pinocchio starts to develop new feelings towards Y/N that he couldn't seem to comprehend at first because it only occurred whenever he was around Y/N and the new allies tell him that he's in love with her.

One day, Y/N had gone scouting ahead of everyone to look around for any clearing void of any enemies. This had caused a panic within the group, especially with Pinocchio, because he fears of losing her after acknowledging his feelings towards her.

Luckily, Y/N was found to be safe and unharmed by everyone , and she explained that she was just simply looking for a clear route so they could proceed without issue.

Later that evening, everyone settled down in their new safe place to rest after a long day of battle against enemies and so. Pinocchio decided to build up his courage to confess to Y/N, so he went to her to find her polishing her daggers before making himself known, which caught her attention.

After letting him in, she puts away her weapons in a safe area. Pinocchio suddenly clings onto her to feel the warmth and softness of her body before placing soft kisses on her forehead, face, and lips, which made her blush a lot before Pinocchio confesses his feelings towards her.

Needless to say, Y/N returns his feelings as she is also in love with him, and the two spend the evening with him gently holding her in his arms in bed as he feels his mechanical heart beating fast in his chest knowing that his feelings of love towards her has been fulfilled and hope to become fully human just for her.

one of the themes of knight rider is kitt developing as a Person, developing a line between the Knight Industries Two-Thousand, and Kitt. discovering humanity, his own emotions, the joys of the seemingly and logically pointless, and often through the lens of his own driver, his partner, his friend, Michael - his primary guide through all these experiences, his reference for those human things he doesn't understand. and as much as he initially claims to not be capable of experiencing emotions, of understanding feelings, he learns to. he experiences a wide range of emotions through the show even while claiming he doesn't, he even learns fear and insecurity. perhaps it's only natural a robot would learn to love, or at the very least be terribly curious about it and wonder if such a thing could ever exist for Him

the majority of people are not exactly kind to kitt. they talk about him like he's not there, they talk about him like he's a machine, a novelty, some people are even scared of or disturbed by him when all he's trying to do is make polite conversation and company. he's always Othered - there's no other cars like him (at least not anymore), but there's no other person like him either, he doesn't truly belong among humans or vehicles. some of the technicians at FLAG don't even seem to fully respect him as a person, at least they don't based on my vague recollection of how they talk about him in Junkyard Dog. when Michael asks him after KARR is destroyed if it feels good to be one of a kind again, he doesn't say yes or no - he only says it's a "familiar feeling." it may be familiar, but it's surely also isolating, and i think that's something he'd realize as he slowly picks up this curiosity about love. where could he even find it when so few people see him as an equal person to begin with?

and then there's michael. oh my god, and then there's michael. no matter what flavor you choose to read it in, the whole show is about their relationship, they're a duo, a set Not to be separated, they're Partners. they work together, they worry about and look after each other (forever insane about when kitt was a melted shell, Michael stuck around the garage for hours, waiting for any news like a worried spouse, constantly checking on him every opportunity he got... encouraging him to recover, and even helping paint back on his protective coating... kitt always looks after michael, but for once, it's michael's turn to look after Him), in a way they were Made for each other - Kitt more literally, being programmed for Michael and holding his namesake, but Michael was also made in a sense for the pilot program, hand picked and given a second life to work for the foundation and with this strange supercar. and even if they had a rocky start, michael comes to view kitt as a person - car, TV set, or computer core, Kitt is his partner, his buddy. he helps him find himself, guides him and teaches him about these things that make us human, and in a way, kitt becomes human - but his entire experience is still through the perspective of an AI in a car, it's still very unique and isolating, and I think he sort of grows into his own limitations, he's finally brushing against the walls that define him.

he learns of love, and then he learns to dream Of love. these things he sees in the movies, that michael tells him about, that he so often sees michael Partaking in that he gets so oddly jealous of, doesn't it all seem so wonderful? he's very curious. but who could ever love steel and circuitry, who could ever see him as an equal let alone a partner in a romantic sense? who would ever love a car and all the limitations That comes with? it's a problem for a hypothetical hopeful Some Day, in the meantime stuck between two worlds where he doesn't perfectly belong to either, where no car Can love him and no human seemingly Would love him...

and michael loves him anyway. before either of them really realize or talk about it, in spite of everything, in any form, regardless of the fact it wouldn't be a typical relationship by absolutely any means, michael loves him anyway. kitt is as much a person to him as bonnie or devon or RC, and that person is someone he loves and cares for deeply. the feeling is mutual, kitt's world revolves around michael, he's one of the most important people in kitt's life, and he'd do anything to protect him.

and it is michael that will finally teach him to love, and what it means to feel loved in turn, to be loved as the person he undoubtedly is.

Flow (2024) review

Dogs and cats living together… MASS HYSTERIA!!

Plot: Cat is a solitary animal, but as its home is devastated by a great flood, he finds refuge on a boat populated by various species, and will have to team up with them despite their differences.

I find it quite demeaning for a movie to be compared to a video game, however Flow invoked so much from that medium in the best possible way. From its non-photoreal aesthetics with remarkably accurate animal movement, to the rendered woodlands and flooded landscapes very reminiscent of the open world games such as Journey and Submerged: Hidden Depth. The latter in particular kept coming to my mind as I watched Flow, for the game featured this brother-sister duo on a boat traversing the sunken ruins of a beautiful word in a “relaxploration” adventure, with magical occurrences happening here and there. Flow works in a similar narrative style, only its animals instead of humans. There is no combat or fail state to deal with, just light platforming and discovering a way forward, as if it was a walking (or should I say floating) simulator. The video game resemblance is hard to miss, but I do think it works in the movie’s benefit, for it allows to tell its story through minimalistic simplicity, without relying on any exposition or dialogue.

That’s right, Flow is an entirely dialogue-free experience, relying sorely on environmental storytelling. The animals don’t talk, yet convey so much character and emotion regardless though their mannerisms and expressions. The animation of the eyes, though cartoony, was the most impressive, as with a simple squint or a shrink of a pupil you knew if the cat was scared, peed-off, curious etc. And again in regard to characters, no explanation is given but you already know who’s who through their basic behaviours. The main character of the black cat is skittish and untrusting, but happens to be a natural born leader with a great sense of judgment….and zero balance. Like seriously, this cat falls off the boat into the water like 50 times!! There’s the cool and reserved capybara, who doesn’t panic no matter how crazy the situation gets - always good to have a friend like that in a group. There’s a klepto self-absorbed lemur that honestly just wants to do its own thang, but everyone keeps getting in its way. But naturally it learns to be part of a team. We just know if this movie had dialogue the lemur would be voiced by Sasha Baron Cohen. And so on forth with the other animals - they all play a role and create this very watchable dysfunctional rag-tag group of survivors.

It’s the Robot Dreams of 2024, and in my eyes deserves the Oscar for Best Animated Feature - it’s easily my favourite of the contenders. It’s a wonderful, beautiful and immersive experience - a true vibe of a movie. Should also add that this is perfect viewing for kids - some great life lessons and themes on empathy and friendship, and the easy-to-digest narrative of animals going from point A to point B. In terms of complaints I’d say even though the movie is a short 90 minute one, it did overstay it’s welcome a little, and also there are a couple of narrative threads I wish had more explanation - the end of the character journey of the bird is a real out-of-place head scratcher that slightly pulled me out of the movie as it felt like it belonged elsewhere, and then there is the fact that all of the animals somehow understand how to drive a boat. Ah heck, let’s just assume they all went to boat school.

gotta ask abt cogito & the cane, if you don't mind. even as a (phys) disabled person I have a hard time thinking of circumstances with D2 where disabilities wouldn't just be either a. healed by light or b. negligible with abilities or c. too much of risk on the field. hadn't given much thought to exos in regards to all that- I know pretty much nothing about exo anatomy either. I know we see some stuff with banshee's memory impairment, but that's not physical. au thing or did you find a way that the rep makes sense? /gen

Hello! So I think I've talked about it a few times in various Discord servers but didn't make a post so here are all my thoughts on this topic (as examplified by my oc(s))

Case A. Cogito is disabled because he was disabled before he died and it did not cause his death. His exo model is highly custom and a leg he kitbashed from a dead exo (when he was lightless) is very faulty (causes pain when he walks too much or runs, and sometimes doesn't bend).

This could also happen with human/awoken guardians (especially if they were born disabled). As Speaker said: "Devotion inspires bravery, bravery inspires sacrifice, sacrifice leads to death" - it would be fucked up if disabled people were somewhat except from that. If a guardian can be rezzed old (like Osiris) then it probably means that they get rezzed as they were at the point when they died so case closed.

Back to Cogito though - yes, light can help him as a mobility aid (he's a Warlock, he can fly pretty well) but obliviously can't always work (light restriction zones for example). And also yeah, it's very much a problem in the field sometimes. It's a big reason why he does solitary reaserch work and only raids with a big group.

Another example of this would be Kobzar-13 with his poor eyesight (this one is for me. I have very bad eyesight too tho it's not as bad, yet). His optics were damaged some time before he died so now it's like this. He could probably get them fixed but he just rolls with this. His ghost audio describes everything to him in his head which I think would be very cool.

Case B. Wawrzyniec is disabled (amputee) because his arm got cut of by Crota. Aka "various light restricting devices and light restricted zones". In this case soulfire. Cogito's scratch (on his head, I don't always draw them) also goes under this category.

This one is more of a stretch but I think that it's plausible. I guess that guardians more often die in these situations than escape disabled. There is also the fact that ghosts might be not able (or want) to heal certain injuries. You can say that Sloane is a lore example of this.

Another oc example of this would be Enebish who got burn scars and lost an eye during the Red War when the Traveler was caged. I don't really remember if anything was said about it at the time.

Bonus case C. I know that some people headcanon guardians getting disabled because of extended light usage. I personally don't think it makes sense and goes kinda against the healing power of light stuff. Case closed.

And about the non-guardians - multiple characters have these sci-fi prosthetics (Camrin's is super advanced and Variks'es is pretty shabby) that I imagine can depend of how much cash or girlfriend in STEM you have. Eramis even has ones for her both feet so the field must be pretty advanced. There is also brother Vance who is blind and clearly did pretty well (before he jumped into piramid zone and vanished forever (John Bungie, if you heal his eyesight I'll kill you)).

Bungie seems to be generally very indirect when it comes to showing disability. Except for PTSD. Which is to be expected from an fps shooter. Everyone wants a cool robot arm but no one wants to talk about the attitude to disability in different cultures.

Speaking of which - humanity is probably not much different then it's now. There are probably a lot of disabled veterans. I wonder if insulin is expensive in the Last City. Awoken and Cabal are probably weird about it. Neomuni, well, we've seen Maya Sundaresh. Eliksni are the most normal.

genuinely such a non-issue it bugs me a little bit that people misconstrue numerous parts of aigis’s functionality just because she’s a robot. this is slightly a Complaining post but also a quick examination of things in canon that say otherwise.

she’s deliberately made in the image of a human so that she can use a persona. her brain isn’t a search engine she can’t just look things up or go on social media with it, and if she somehow Can then she hardly ever does that, otherwise why would she get below average scores on tests in school? why would she express she actively has trouble learning certain material? she could Acquire an understanding of certain things by downloading the data probably but she’s likely specifically constructed so that her brain develops in the same ways that a human’s does.

there’s also the like fact of her eating. often the characters mention “she can’t eat” but we have multiple cases of her doing so (particularly trying takoyaki or eating popsicles and reserving sushi, but if we consider the food items in-game she’d be consuming those to replenish health in tartarus as well) so i have to wonder if these lines regarding it are intended in the sense that it’s not that she can’t physically eat but rather she can’t eat as a human would? something in the way of not fully comprehending taste or sustenance offering her no benefits or etc. but she actively Likes to try things at the same time with seemingly no major harm coming of it to her body given she consumes stuff right in front of everyone else and we never hear that she Shouldn’t be. much like with water in her initial appearance these things don’t seem to have an effect on her.

the first question one might have is “why doesn’t it effect her though” and i can honestly only assume it’s because of the nature of the papillon heart/plumes of dusk and just how powerful it is to be able to give life to a being. aigis shouldn’t be able to cry, but she does. aigis shouldn’t be able to sleep or dream, but she does. maybe when she eats it’s in a sense ‘digested’. maybe water doesn’t effect her because what powers her isn’t close enough to electricity that it would fry or short her. part of misconception is definitely that so much of this is left kinda unexplained but there’s bits to work off of.

I'd made a comment on your post about how the GUND format could work in a SRW game, and you had responded with something about going 'full alpha series'.

So, first, I'm pretty sure that's a compliment, so thank you, but second, I'm afraid I'm not familiar with alpha series. Is it an SRW spin-off?

In any event, I will say I've definitely enjoyed it whenever SRW kitbashes a connection between two series (like High Priest Zagato [Magic Knight Rayearth] referring to Koji Kabuto's Mazinger as a 'Magine' and wishing he could have laid his hands on such power, for example), and makes for a fun intellectual exercise for fan rosters.

Interestingly though, I've noticed it seems easier to kitbash the average Gundam show with the average non-Gundam mecha, than it is two Gundam shows together.

The Witch from Mercury + Shin Getter Robo vs. Neo Getter Robo? Not a problem! In fact, they're complimentary: The Dinosaur Empire is mad at humanity for all the environmental destruction, and tragically don't realize they should ally with the Earthians against the Spacians, attacking indiscriminately instead. Getter energy has been tarred with the same brush as GUND tech, and Hayato, as a former witch, has had his work at NISAR *heavily* scrutinized by Cathedra, until they were satisfied that plasma energy really *was* nothing like Getter.

The Witch from Mercury + Mobile Fighter G? Two of the most similar Gundams, and yet it must be addressed how the quadannual Gundam Fight is even allowed, and as well as the clash between the Neo colonies and G-Witch's more traditional fronts. These aren't irreconcilable differences (Those aren't Gundams! Those are 'G Fighters'...plus the tournament is really profitable... Meanwhile, the Neo colonies are part-museum/part-theme park [a la the Texas colony], with choice bits of culture 'liberated' from Earth), but it still requires a bit more thought and sanding the rough edges to fit together neatly.

This was wonderful! I very much agree that it’s easier to mix any given Gundam with any given non-Gundam, especially super robots, given how little their takes on machines overlap. One can easily say that real robots make up the bulk of the military and consumer-oriented machines, with any given super being a one-of-a-kind super weapon not mass produced because of cost and complexity.

I love the idea of mixing G-Witch and Getter, and I can’t believe I didn’t think of just how well Shin Getter Robo vs. Neo Getter Robo would work!

My comment about going full Alpha series was indeed a compliment— Super Robot Wars Alpha is one of the most highly-regarded Super Robot Wars series, held in high regard specifically for its worldbuilding and how well it ties every series together into a single timeline! The only translated game as of now is Alpha Gaiden for the PS1, which is phenomenal. The original Alpha is 60% of the way done courtesy of Aeon Genesis, with only the real robot route left to translate.

k gamer we need to talk about kai and how he is consistently the family man of the ninja and arguably the most emotionally mature of them all when it comes to family

i love kai so much. hes not the brightest, but he is the most loving out of all the ninja, even if it’s in his own way.

first up, presumably taking care of nya for years on his own. like, im sure the neighbors helped out, but he has gone on record saying that they mostly grew up on their own. this kid got “abandoned” by his parents. but even then, he lit lanterns with nya on day of the departed. even though he didn’t know what happened to them, he chooses to believe that they wouldn’t leave them willingly. that they’re still worth remembering and loving.

when it’s revealed that zane is a robot, kai is the first one there. “you may be a robot, but you’re still our brother.” being a robot doesnt change anything, and kai is the first one to make sure zane knows it, but is also the one to later tell the others “we just have to give him time. i don’t know how i’d feel if somebody told me i was a robot.” Like, he empathizes with zane! he tells zane he still loves him, respects zane’s wish to be given space, and expresses empathy with him. in ninjago decoded, kai even reveals that he often forgets zane isn’t human. zane is, at this point, made of titanium. and yet all kai sees is zane

ok and then there’s his true potential. what even is there to say about that one? how he realizes his purpose is to protect his family. he’s there to protect lloyd. the one that once left lloyd, flaked out on him. he realizes that no, this kid is everything to him.

when lloyd was climbing the tower to fight the overlord, kai was right there, ready to protect him. “there’s only one green ninja.” this is no longer about him, it’s about lloyd’s destiny to save the world. and he would do everything to make sure lloyd makes it through that

now. kai gets a lot of flack for being not that smart. and dude really aint. his mouth is a pistol with which to shoot himself in the foot. but when it comes to family? He’s one of the most eloquent there. In titanium ninja, he’s the one to first coin “this isn’t about numbers, it’s about family.” something that resonated with zane strongly enough that he would fight the overlord despite all odds.

And then the funeral. it wasnt wu to speak. or cole or jay or even lloyd, but kai. his speech is genuinely like... really good?

“Everybody wondered what powered Zane, and I don’t think we’ll ever know, but I’d like to think it was brotherhood. Because he powered me. And he still powers me. Wherever you are Zane, you’ll always be one of us.”

this is coming from a dude that probably can’t do long division or tell you what a prepositional phrase is. what kai lacks in book smarts, and even in typical maturity (he’s still very much so a teenager) he makes up for with this insane emotional intelligence specifically regarding family.

in season 4, he’s the one we see visiting zane’s statue. he’s the one that supports lloyd in spite of his crush on skylor (even cole and jay got distracted by their own squabbling, even if they did the right thing in the end) he’s the one that took NONE of skylor’s bullshit once she revealed having ice powers.

and he was so deeply hurt by her betrayal! he felt genuinely betrayed! he really trusted her, even though he probably shouldnt have, seeing as she tried to turn him against lloyd. but just like lloyd with harumi, kai saw the good in her. and his loyalty changed skylor.

then season 5. lloyd just had to banish his father. so kai does what he did once already: steps up to be there. telling lloyd that he’ll be there for him. and he is. he’s the one to get through to lloyd on multiple occasions when he’s possessed by morro after all.

season 7. kai is so genuinely hurt when he thinks his dad betrayed them. but once he knows they’re on his side, he’s so, so, SO genuinely relieved, and later doesn’t hold it against them that he and nya grew up alone, even though he does have plenty of right to do so, or to at least still feel hurt by it. no. he’s just glad to have them back.

i don’t remember season 8 very clearly, but kai being the one to answer cole’s questions about babies is pretty fun.

season 9 puts them through the wringer. at first, kai is actually the one freaking out the most, he wants to go home so badly, they don’t know what happened to lloyd. but when wu and hope are lamenting being tied to fucking stakes and left to die, kai is the first one to comfort wu. to start joking around to lighten the mood, which the others then piggyback off of. it’s kai that’s there to try and comfort him first.

season 10, cole’s fall. you can tell how badly kai wants to go back for cole, even when all logic dictates that they’d die. personally, i like to imagine that he told zane that “this isn’t about logic, it’s about family” to which zane might say “this is about the innocent lives on our ship” to which kai just. looks down in sorrow.

but when lloyd returns, they’re all silent. none of them want to tell lloyd what happened. it’s kai that breaks the news. it’s kai (and jay of course) that comforts nya when she blames herself. it’s kai that later goes to nya when she’s alone to tell her that it’s not her fault, and to push her towards moving past what happened, at least long enough that they can make it through this to grieve cole later. the one to reinforce to nya that cole wouldnt hold what happened against her (by offering her the scythe)

it’s just... it’s so consistently a part of kai’s character. i don’t know the second series enough off the top of my head to really point to specific examples. which is like, on me of course.

but when he lost nya, he channeled that into becoming a DOJO INSTRUCTOR for YOUNG CHILDREN. He saw his sister disappear, and decided to protect the rest of the children of ninjago, in whatever way he could: by making sure they could defend themselves, even if he’s not able to do it for them. it’s... honestly remarkably touching and poignant.

but like, shit, man. dragons rising NAILED big brother kai. the way he picks up lloyd and spins him around. he’s overflowing with so much love for his family. there’s absolutely no doubt in my mind that he’d go through hell and high water for any of them. which is true of all the ninja, of course, but kai... he’s special

he’s the one that knows what to say. how to comfort someone. how to make someone feel loved. how to help someone grieve. even if he doesn’t always know how to handle that grief himself (see his time as the burning shogun)

the fact that he learned these skills from such a young age is tragic in its own right, but that he managed to turn his loss and strife into such a positive character trait is nothing short of amazing, and is such a sorely overlooked aspect to his character.

tl;dr - Kai is not only loyal to a fault, but also capable of comforting people and being there for them. He loves his family so much, and he’s one of the best at expressing that in the little ways and big ones.

Digging more into Windy X Windam only leaves me with more questions. Hopefully some will be answered when I finally figure out how to get a working ROM (I’ve seen a couple, but I’ll admit I’m no emulator expert and I really don’t want to fuck up my computer by downloading something sketchy), but based on the couple of playthroughs I’ve found it hasn’t made much sense and that only endears it more to me. I’m a little bummed because I get the impression that there was at least a modicum of effort put in regarding the character concepts. I mean, basic as it is, the cover art style has a decently charming style to it

But everything else just fumbles the bag so hard it’s sorta cute.

That and I’m still amused at the GG bootlegs they got away with. I know no tropes are exclusive to one single game, but...come on. Nearly half the base roster is like this. Just look at them:

First, Big

AKA Not-Potemkin, also holder of the most creative name. You literally could have just called him ‘grappler’ and it would not have been more on-the-nose. I know I only found so much gameplay info but for what little I saw of him he has no personality. The most interesting thing about him is that in his stage there’s a sign with a scantily-clad woman on it, and the only reason it was noteworthy is because that’s the most un-Potemkin thing about him. I have confused his sprite for pre-Xrd Potemkin’s numerous times now. The color palette is literally the same minus the tiny hint of white

Jack

AKA Not-Slayer, also holder of an incredibly generic name, though I’ll admit I have a bit more fondness for this one (because he reminds me of Slayer. I choose to believe they’re related) The fact that he fights with his shapeshifting scarf does give off Millia vibes but tbh it’s just charming enough to where I actually sorta like him. He also throws lanterns as a weapon, and that plus the magic scarf and sunglasses gives him just enough unique quirks that I’m kinda bummed he’s not in a better game

And Stin

The not-Bridget. He’s basically the only character I’ve seen that has any kind of fan content and only one of two that I could find gameplay for (gee, I wonder why...) but concept (and lack of pants) aside, he does have a few interesting quirks. Instead of a mechanical teddy bear, he fights with the moving hands on his hat, which is a neat concept that predates Cerebella from Skullgirls by a couple of years. His brief storyline reminds me a lot of Taokaka, in the same genre of ‘I have no idea what I’m doing here and I don’t care about the (admittedly minimal) plot stakes bc I just wanna mess around.’ And, while I can’t say this for certain due to the limited info, I believe it’s implied that Stin is some sort of artificial human/robot thanks to his mechanical hat, super move that involves a rabbit mech suddenly appearing, and his final cutscene mentioning his ‘programming’ (which could also offer some explanation towards his name, as I have seen it translated both as ‘Stin’ and ‘Stein’) Curious...

The original character concepts and designs aren’t necessarily bad, but I think of the remaining roster Ashley and G are the only other ones that invoke any sort of reaction in me. It’s still a bummer I can only find so much info on the internet about the game in general

How well and intimately do u have to know someone to not only fully remake them but then go and remake then at two entirely separate stages of their life you were never there for and don't even know what they looked like for and have it be -entirely accurate- bc I think about that! this actually brings up an interesting point, with regards to Aporia vs. Z-one's other robotic copies of his husbands friends. Cuz like, you have a pretty solid argument that Antinomy and Paradox are successfully 1:1 accurate copies of their original selves (as 1:1 a mechanical recreation of a person can be) especially with looks and (presumably. maybe. possibly) with personality. But with Aporia.... I would argue Z-one didn't actually nail his 'remade' version(s) of him very well at all, tbh! Nor do I think he was intending to, even.

Cuz, honestly, just how accurate do the Emperors look compared to Aporia's actual life stages? Lester is probably the closest, but he's still an unnatural pale compared to child Aporia; meanwhile Jakob is like 348954 goddamn Feet Tall and wider than a barge and Primo. well Primo looks a little like the printer jammed while spitting him out.

Half of young adult Aporia's hair is just NOT THERE ON PRIMO. CHOPPED OFF. BIGASS BALD SPOT. imo it makes Primo in particular look....unfinished! and therein that lies a pretty big point about the Three Emperors that I've probably talked about before but always love getting into: theyre SUPPOSED to look unfinished and incomplete and a little bit 'off,' because theyre very much NOT actually robotic copies of Aporia at different ages or Young Adult Robot Recreations like Paradox and Antinomy.

They're the result of Aporia begging Z-one to give life to his Most Defining Traumatic Memories. They're embodiments of horrifying snapshots in time that Aporia believes made him who he is today....theyre. embodiments of despair :^)

The show never gets into How these despairs/traumatic moments got processed into becoming Three Mechanical Guys Who Talk and Walk Around, but I'd be willing to wager it's something involving extracting Aporia's memories and building them from that (and that's how Z-one was able to make Lester and Primo and have them look...Adjacent to how Apo looked at those implied ages.) It also explains why the three of them are such a volatile, mishmashed trio--Each one is only a third of a whole, a gijinka of a moment of Indescribably Intense Grief and Emotion, theyre each a piece that perhaps was not supposed to have been separated out into its own person ("person," lord knows theyre not people to Z-one) and well now everyone has to deal with that.

ANYWAY. TANGENT, APOLOGIZES. I don't think this diminishes the implied intimacy between Z-one and Aporia though, lemme be clear... how much trust must be there to not only ask to take your most defining, devastating memories and give them 'life,' but to heed that request and go out of your way to take the time and make More mechanical bodies than you needed for your other two friends. Wake up sunshine Oscar’s win is not tainted because of Lando! Oscar’s win is tainted because of shit strategy from McLaren putting BOTH their drivers in a shitty position. Stop making Lando the villain in this narrative because he’s not. Could he have let Oscar pass sooner sure but that’s not the reason for the tension. The team is the reason for the tension. All this hate and discontent for Lando is so annoying; he’s not a team player, he’s a grown man acting like a brat, he’s a cry baby. What? Seriously? He’s an athlete in a competitive sport trying to win a championship. Of course he’s going to be upset, frustrated and act out. Especially when McLaren’s ass of a strategy has cost him what 2-3 races now. Putting the blame on Lando for ruining Oscar’s win is absolutely laughable. Could he have handled the celebration better of course he could. But think about what was going through his mind at the time as well. He’s being asked by his team to give up a win that would give him valuable points to close the gap between him and Max. And then because the decision was essentially being placed on his shoulders by a team that should be advocating for their driver he has to make a decision to either be selfish and take the win or come in second for the better of the team. And you can’t sit here and tell me that no matter which decision he would have made yesterday, to go for the win or sacrifice the win that he wouldn’t have been painted as the villain, because he always is no matter what decision he makes, it seems like no matter what he does he’s always wrong. And let’s not get started on the manipulation and gaslighting that came over the team radio basically threatening Lando to give the lead back or he will lose the support of his team and teammate in the champion chase. Asking this of a person who has come out publicly about his mental health struggles and issues with dealing with how people view him is so crazy to me, especially when the team is supposed to be an advocate for mental health. As I sit here and think back today on yesterdays race and all the hate being directed at Lando I can’t help but wonder; would someone like Max; whom we all know would have taken that win, gotten this much hate? The answer is no. He would have been called champion material, a pioneer in the sport and a visionary for going against his team’s orders to secure the win. So because he’s young and still trying to make a name for himself in the sport he hasn’t earned the same respect as Max? I call bullshit. That’s extremely unfair he’s worked extremely hard to be where he currently is and should be respected as such. Yes he’s young. Yes he’s going to make childish decisions, he’s freaking 24. Give him a damn break.

I hate that actual fans of his can’t even come into the tag right now without getting upset because of the hate and disrespect he’s getting. This is supposed to be a place we can go to support him, have a community of like minded people, who share content about our favorite driver not a hate blog. I’m so sick of it. If you want to bitch about it do it in a different tag. Sending death threats and hoping he wrecks is literally so childish and disgusting and you’re out here talking about him. And yes I’m aware that like me, you are entitled to your opinion regarding the race, the driver, the team etc but I’m also entitled to tell you stop being an asshole. Just because they are in the public eye doesn’t mean anything, they are still humans, they still are allowed to show emotion and have feelings. they are not robots.

This is what I get for recklessly buying Asimovs with no regard for book size!

It is interesting that "Forward" and "Earth" take up so much space and prominence on the shelf, since they also take up so much space in my mind. They are the most self-reflective novels: the sequel finale that tries to reconcile love and disgust for humanity, and the prequel finale that wonders what the point of it all is.
