Happy April 1st! In a few timezones still.
One of my more ambitious projects is mixing the old FUNimation English dub of Detective Conan/Case Closed with the remastered and HD footage available on Blu-ray in Germany. I haven't actually completed very many episodes, but I wanted to mix Episode 76 for today! The dub script here is pretty fun.

I have seen absolutely no one talking about the new Magic Kaito leaks and how cute Aoko looks!
So here you go my Magic Kaito loving people
Shall i bring you an Aoko that, by what my low quality translator app says, is mad that Kid is “using Kaito’s voice again” and a Kaito that is having a flashback to his traumatic experience where he tried to impress Aoko and his mother with a trick and Midoriko went and ruined it for a literal Child XD
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I swear the only parent that i genuinely like at this point is Inspector Ginzo Nakamori😅🤦🏻‍♀️
Also, i may be a bit mad at her but that panel where she is looking at the computer?
Oof Midoriko looks so nice!
Enjoy!
(There are some leaks down here⬇️)

You know, a while ago I read a chapter in pivx of Kaito x Aoko where it was a semi-crossover story of Ranma 1/2 where Kaito knew that Aoko had been obsessed with the old anime and he didn't know why until he saw that one of the chapters Aoko's favorite is when Ranma tells Akane that she is cute when she smiles and there she realizes that Aoko likes that chapter because Ranma's voice is identical to Kaito's unfortunately I can't find the fanfic
But this made me imagine what the coexistence of the cast of Ranma 1/2 and Magic Kaito would be like? Would it be possible for them to live together at the same time? Because if I remember correctly, Ranma takes place in the 80s and Magic Kaito, well, I don't know if it's worth the same as in Detective Conan they adapted everything to the current time.
Maybe because of one of Master Happosai's magical artifacts or because of a spell from Akako or because of a rare jewel that Kaito has stolen from Ranma's cast and half a trip to the world of Kaito Magic or the other way around, but how strange will it be to see in the Beika city to a boy who transforms into a girl or a man who transforms into a panda? Or how strange will it be to see in Nerima a strange guy who can imitate the face of someone (if we don't take into account the non-canonical chapters) who steals a jewel that gives immortality?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You know while I'm writing this I remembered an unfinished fanfic from years ago where Aoko's mother was a student of Genma Saotome and had engaged Aoko to Ranma before she was born in this story if I remember correctly Ginzo seems to be the only sane one and he also seems to be divorced her.
aaaaah it seems that since the Ranma 1/2 remake was released I haven't stopped comparing it and thinking about hypothetical situations related to magic Kaito

Time for Movie 8!! And for one of the gayest moments in DCMK history (unsurprisingly, it's because of Shinichi and Kaito).
Sneak thief is one of my favourite nicknames Shinichi has given Kaito and I love when it's used as a term of endearment in fanfiction.
All DCMK movies should be KID movies. Or Ai movies that KID gets to appear in.
Shinichi: I'll never stop chasing KID
Me: GAY, GAY, HOMOSEXUAL, GAY.
Shinichi, don't get annoyed, you usually are great for trivial facts not many would know.
Kogoro: KID must have counted the letters wrong!
Shinichi: My husband would never do that.
And of course Kaito is watching his shrunken husband enjoy his riddle with a dove.
If Sonoko can call Ran Shinichi's wife and Shinichi her husband, I can call Kaito and Shinichi husbands :p And I will do, because these two are fated together.
I actually don't mind kids being interested in make up, it can inspire creativity, the bad thing about make up is the social expectations of it.
Damn, Kogoro, Ginzo, just kiss.
No, he's not disguised as any of them. He's disguised as somone very familiar to you, Shinichi. Because he's a little shit.
Kaito disguising as Shinichi is so risky of him though, because he's telling the world he looks like Shinichi.
SHINICHI IS NOT RAN'S BOYFRIEND. OR HUSBAND. He is Kaito's :p
Haibara not resisting the urge to tease Shinichi though, go queen.
How you know it's Kaito immediately. Shinichi would never actually compliment Ran because he treats her horribly.
And Kaito immediately makes Shinichi look like a dork.
How gross, even Ran has a feeling it's not Shinichi because the ass never actually compliments her. And this is supposed to be romantic. Throw their whole relationship into the bin, please, and start from scratch.
Kaito is such a little shit, waving to Shinichi before he leaves.
Shinichi: I've gotta go, cover for me.
Haibara, knowing they're about to go flirt on the roof together: ...have fun.
My god, how gay are these two T-T Kaito was waiting on the roof for Shinichi to arrive, he could have escaped by now but where is the fun in that.
...and they still can't resist the sexism of calling Ran his "woman" who is waiting on him with supper because that's all Ran is good for <.< I am going to strangle someone.
THE LIP LICK. Iconic.
The first time Shinichi falls and Kaito immediately goes to catch him.
Damn, what was Shinichi's plan T-T I can't believe he was going to knock Kaito out midair, the maniac.
Though it's because he matches Kaito's freak that he loves him :p
I love how Kaito lets Shinichi get close to him before he activates his wire to pull him back to the handglider. Always gotta tease his dear shrunken husband.
I love Sonoko. I love how she interacts with the kids. I don't like how her outfit looks though. The colours do not go together, love.
Shinichi senses his husband, awww <3
Honestly, it's so immature of Ran to constantly pull these tricks on her parents. I know it's because Gosho loves the "they're still in love with one another and Ran knows" but it's the second worst pairing in this series (Shinichi and Ran get first place by being so awful and so obnoxious as a pairing that we have to stomach every episode give or take) and no women deserves to be paired with Kogoro, the digusting man that he is to women.
Yay! More sexism. Gosho, girls don't give a fuck about the face they make when they pop their ears, unless they're one of those "to be a true lady" tiktok accounts.
Time for the pilot and co-pilot to be poisoned!
Oh and Juri too.
Tumblr media
The best face Kogoro has ever made. It shall be in my nightmares <3
The face of a man whose life flashed before his eyes. Sadly a near-death experience will not let this man change his ways.
LMAO, SHINICHI USING THE WRONG VOICE.
Although Eri isn't stupid, she would know immediately that she never solved a case and would investigate the reason.
This murder was solved quite quickly considering... I guess it's due to the main drama being the plane going down.
How did Shinichi see them kiss her hand? He stayed in his seat. Oh, I guess he figured from how Kaito kissed her hand that she might have done the same to the pilots. That makes more sense.
And Kaito and Shinichi save the day.
I wonder if planes would have a back-up pilot for these very, very tiny chances of the pilot and co-pilot both falling sick.
LMAO I love how no one questions Kaito picking Shinichi to play his co-pilot. Well, Kogoro does but no one is listening.
Tumblr media
Kaito looks very pretty here. He's always pretty though so it's not hard for him to do so.
"After this giant metle bird has returned to its nest," Shinichi, you need to join a drama club. You and Kaito could be the main attraction.
I love how the captain immediately gets worried hearing Shinichi's voice.
And Hawaii makes it's appearance.
And Shinichi's terrible luck strikes, not once, but twice.
Children: That was great.
Their parents: Oh shit.
And the tension rises. As they lose not only an engine but also all their fuel.
Kaito, most definitely: For fucks sake, Shinichi's luck is so terrible.
Interesting, even in a dire situation Shinichi called Ran, nee-chan and not Ran like he usually does. It's because his husband is around (ignore my delusions).
SONOKO T-T I love Sonoko.
Megure, Takagi and Shiratori just around to be the three stooges.
Kaito, knowing what to do, and leaving his husband alone to land the plane (so he can help him safely land it by providing him a lit up landing strip).
That grin when he lets go XD
Sonoko and Ran being the bravest girls on this whole plane, I love them so much.
TELL HIM OFF RAN.
Ran, if you don't want to be left alone, chase him. My god, Gosho will have Shinichi say that he will always chase KID and yet Ran will never chase Shinichi despite "liking him", she will only wait, and Shinichi will never let her chase him and will forever make her wait despite never knowing he will actually come back.
SONOKO! MY GOD SHE'S SUCH A QUEEN.
AGASA PROTECTING THE KIDS T-T HIS GRANDCHILDREN.
Ran and Sonoko (and Shinichi and KID) should go down in history for this. Sully did, they should too.
Imagine it, Sonoko and Ran introduce themselves and people are like "HOLY SHIT, YOU'RE THE GIRLS WHO LANDED A PLANE!"
...How does Kaito treat Ran better than Shinichi does, even though he was being a pervert.
How interesting, Ran immediately feels relief Shinichi didn't hear her say she likes him (or so she believes). Totally normal behaviour from someone who insists she does like that person.

I'm soo bummed that 'Saguru' in ch 37 and 38 (where he's finally wearing something other than the holmes outfit again) was actually Kaito.
But I'm also vexed about the fact that we continue to see 'Saguru' speaking offscreen while KID is doing his magic show. Like, obviously Kaito's just projecting Saguru's voice, but he HAD been standing right next to Ginzo before. Is everyone just completely missing the fact that Saguru physically vanished until after Kaito's show ended? I guess they could just be distracted enough not to notice but I feel like Ginzo at LEAST would have realized?

alright closing umineko for the night!! i had a great time with it so far!! i really like the writing style, and for the most part its actually a lot less dense than i was expecting. I thought it might be some house of leaves stuff but no this is pretty easy to read, at least so far! im rlly glad for that like it doesn't feel too simple, not too complicated, its good!
current character thoughts run down, though i've barely started so i dont know much yet: ginzo: he sucks he totally sucks and im convinced that he made some kidna deal w/ beatrice in order to take advantage of the earthquake and war and such. not entirely convinced hes not about to just murder the whole family bcs he seems like he would do that. krauss: also sucks. just a real dick, but in like. he's a standard asshole really. natsuhi: much in the same vien, but she's got that matriach of the family thing going on i hope will b explored more <3 jessica: she's neat i like her! looking forward to more on her. Eva: i was digging for her a while and then i saw how she treated shannon and it went out the window hideyoshi: ive yet to expirence a thought on this man George: he's very tropey in a good way and i enjoy he's friendly guy swag. looking forward to it inevitably falling to pieces rudolf: DICK!! kyrie: girl leave your husband. i can treat u better <3, im glad she has some decency but my mind aint set on her yet battler: HES SO CRINGEEEE <333333333333333333333333333333333333333333 sometimes he does genuinely offput me but mostly he's just stupid <3 rosa: be a bit nicer to ur daughter, but beyond that shes chill i think. no big thoughts here. i do like her dynamic in relation to the rest of the siblings so far maria: MARIA MY DARLING MY DEAREST SHES SO SWEET AND SILLY AND CLEARLY OMINOUS I CANT WAIT TO SEE WHAT DARK MAGICS OVERTAKE HER OR WHATEVER <333 maria for whatever the fuck she wants 2024 love her so much no crazy thoughts on the head butler or doctor but i think in a different world the butler and ginzo had crazy gay sex shannon: shes soooo sweetie <3 suspiciously so this game wants me to like her so bad and i do <3. i am aware of one key spoilery fact about shannon uncovered in some content warnings i recieved, but its kinda fun seeing the set up for that! everyone be nicer to my girl kanon: hes suspcious but overly so and i wonder what his deal is. i also think all the servants need to be treated better this fucking furnature stuff <3 its awful i love it narratively gohda: i think he would kill someone with very little hesitation. i wanna try that panna cotta. kumasawa: shes like a grandma to me <333 i like her!!
i havent met beatrice yet but im looking forward to it she looks super neat.
i also apperciate how slow burn this is, a few hours in and very little has happened yet it's nice. there's already a lot building but like. nothing big yet it's nice. i like it. it feels like it's moving at exactly the pace it wants to and i enjoy it a lot. the sound design is also rlly good. the music is really nice a couple times i got distracted and just listened to it in the bg. the sfx r nice too.
i do not regret my sprite choice i like these designs they're fun, but i do think maria looks a little off for her alleged age of 9, but it's easy to ignore after a min or two.ironically when i was loading the game and saw her on the steam page it def aligned better, but at the cost battler to my eyes is now yassified. he cant be a pretty boy to me he's too lame.
voice acting is great everyones putting fucking everyting into it and i enjoy that. fully commited to the enviroment and its great.
where i left off: everyone just finished having lunch! kumasawa covered for shannon not knowing the red sauce's ingredients. that's all for now! not sure when ill paly more, probably tomorrow, but its been good!! good game so far i like this setg up!! im also eagar to get more into the murder and violence and witch stuff but like, it does a good joib of setting up the characters so i dont feel impatient, and unlike a lot of games w/ murder n mystery that get right into it i kinda find it refreshing how slow this one is to start its like we all know itll get there so the tension of everyone being relatively calm is great.
anyway, umineko day 1: it was good =D

A Clover's Misfortune: Chapter 21/25
Fandom: Magic Kaito
Rating: T
The moment he tried to go back to sleep he heard a clear, loud voice and an increasing stomping of footsteps into the corridor. He turn toward the door, huffing grumpily “I swear Chikage, if you are here to complain i’m not really in the mood-” There was Nakamori Ginzo at the door.
New chapter is up! I'm sorry for being late this time. Next chapter will be posted with the usual schedule on wednesday.

Day 12
Let’s do some discovery writing. I give you a prompt, and you write at least three paragraphs of a character reacting to it. Let’s see who you discover.
The prompt:
Unfortunately, things never go according to plan around here (@the-wip-project)
“Well, most units have a well-rehearsed plan for active shooters. Unfortunately, things never go to plan around here.”
“When do they ever,” Ginzo muttered. “KID is a misspelling of 1412, and 1412 is a misspelling of ‘pure chaos.’ Anyways, I’ll be fine—KID’s taught me to react fast. You have to, if you want to avoid showing up at the station in pink glitter.”
“Sir,” Meguire said, compassionate and wary all at once, “with all due respect, homicide scenes are rather riskier than glitter.”
And that, that was where people went wrong. They heard “KID” and thought “showy, harmless thief.” They didn’t realize that with the stunts KID pulled, “harmless” demonstrated a greater level of skill, creativity, and resolve than anyone was really equipped to handle. If KID wanted to be harmful, Ginzo would be dead. Simple as that. Chasing a thief like that for years, Ginzo understood something of risk and danger.

Kaito, in a high voice, holding a Barbie doll: Hey Ken! I was thinking about going back to school and starting a career!
Aoko, in a deep voice, holding a Ken doll: Nonsense, Barbie. You're staying home and having my kids.
Ginzo: What the fuck are you kids doing?
Aoko: Playing systematic oppression.

Ask WIP- 2 Nakamourific?
WIP Challenge 2. Nakamourific
AKA Witness Statement! I got really busy over the summer with conventions and work, so I'm finally making real progress on the last chapter. It's already the longest by a wide margin and I still have a couple more scenes to write out.
Here's an excerpt!
Ginzo’s heart could’ve leapt right out of his throat at the sound of his phone ringing, and seeing his own number on the caller ID just added a second level of bone-quaking terror on top of it.
“Who is this!?” He shouted, voice echoing around the metal walls of the warehouse he was currently standing in. Only about twenty minutes had passed and he’d already worked himself into a frenzy, searching every unlocked shed he could find along the docks, as it was appearing more and more like Richard had vanished into thin goddamn air--!
“Heeeey there sugarbear! It’s meeee!” Richard’s sing-song voice greeted on the other line like a slap in the face. “Didja miss me? Because I miss you!”
His brain sputtered. “I-- Wh-- Whatit--!? RICHARD!” He all but screamed. “Where the fuck are you!? I’ve been looking everywhere for you, and you couldn’t be assed to tell me you found my stuff!?”
Ginzo’s mind raced with homicide options like it was a game of Clue, crumpling the witness statement pages in his fist. He’d found it. All the stress and conflicting feelings and time wasted had lead up to the moment he ran back to the docks to look for Richard, finding the papers sitting on the ground in front of the boat rental stand. Just sitting there. It should’ve been a moment of triumph, karma finally throwing him a bone for his patience! But he didn’t feel triumphant. Richard had managed to steal that away from him at the last second with whatever dumbassery he was pulling now. If this was another of his fucking deduction shows that Meguire mentioned, because Richard couldn’t handle not having all the attention of himself for two damn seconds--
“W-woah there, hey, easy,” Richard sputtered, distinctly less sing-songy, not that any tone would’ve pissed Ginzo off less. “I-I was just going to tell you about that! After I showed you this hot lead I’m chasing! It’s about the case, I think I’m onto something big.”
“I don’t give a shit! Papers and phone! That’s it! Are you trying to drag this nightmare out!?”
“N-no! I mean-- not on purpose--” Richard sounded scared. He should be. “Listen, this goes big, okay? Bigger than either of us thought! The papers were just one part of a big conspiracy, if you just listen to me it’ll be huge! Okay?” He didn’t wait for an answer, which was probably for the best, because Ginzo was on the verge of hanging up or smashing the phone in his grip. “Do you remember ten years ago? You were, oh, I dunno. Thirty-three? Back when there weren’t so many warehouses--”
“Shut up! Just shut up! I’m done with you, do you understand me!? You’re driving your ass back here, you’re not saying another damn word until-- un-- until…”
You can’t do something for over a decade without it leaving a permanent mark on every part of you. Sometimes chasing the Phantom Thief KID felt like another night at work, and other times it was so much more. The rivalry of a lifetime, a comfort, an addiction, a genuine desire to beat the thief at his own game, or even (if he was honest with himself) a game he never truly wanted to end. He’d always been good at cracking codes, that’s how he wound up on the KID task force in the first place, and after all these years, he didn’t even have to actively look for them. Maybe he’d trained himself to listen for codes during heist times, but the lines between Ginzo and Inspector Nakamori were blurry, near-nonexistent things anyway. Easily dashed by out-of-place numbers.
Listen to me. Ten years. Ten. Thirty-three. 10-33. Emergency.
Shit.

Anonymous Submission: Shattering, Like Glass
Main Pairings: Kudo Shinichi/Kuroba Kaito
Characters: Kudo Shinichi (Edogawa Conan), Kuroba Kaito (Kaitou Kid), Miyano Shiho (Haibara Ai), Sera Masumi, Mouri Ran, Nakamori Ginzo
Prompt: “I won’t be good company.” “Doesn’t matter.”
It started at the Kid heist.
Like always, the taskforce treated Edogawa Conan as a child. A rather intelligent child that they occasionally turned to for advice on catching the elusive phantom thief, but a seven year old child nonetheless. It hurt, it always did. Conan’s most important secret was that he was actually ten years older than that; his real name was Kudo Shinichi, and he was a high school detective. If he had been able to be in his real body, they would have known, wouldn’t have treated him like this… and it wouldn’t have hurt so much.
But he smiled and pitched his voice to seem more child-like, and gave hints and figured out Kid’s plan, how he was disguised as Masumi (a truly risky idea), and they played their game, their battle of wits, all while the walls inside Conan’s mind felt like they were collapsing, squeezing, choking him, because it all hurt just too much for him to handle sometimes.
Of course, on the rooftop, Kaitou Kid noticed.
“Tantei-kun, a truly brilliant deduction,” Kid started. “But are you alright?”
“Of course I am,” Conan replied, a bit startled that Kid had noticed. But of course, Kid was intelligent, and perhaps Conan wasn’t as good at hiding secrets as he thought he was, with his rather vulnerable emotional state at the moment.
Kid opened his mouth as if to say something, then closed it, studying Conan. Stop, stop, please stop, chanted a small voice in the faux child’s head, and Conan himself was unsure what exactly he wanted to stop: Kid’s analyzing, his impending mental breakdown, or perhaps just… everything. If he could go back to being Kudo Shinichi, then… He tried to stop these emotions from flashing across his face, but he wasn’t sure he succeeded.
“Take deep breaths, tantei-kun,” Kid said softly. There was clear concern in his expression. He crouched down to reach Conan’s height. “It’s okay to let it out.”
“No, it’s not,” he hissed. “You don’t understand what it’s like for me.”
Kid paused, then said, “You’re right, I don’t know what it’s like to be trapped in a body smaller than it should be. But I do understand what it’s like to keep secrets. That’s part of this, right? You don’t like lying to your friend Mouri-san, and everyone else you’ve known as a teenager. You don’t like lying to the people who didn’t know you even before this happened. I feel the same way. I have a close friend, but I can never tell her I’m Kid.” The thief pulled a smile. “I guess you can say I understand you a bit, huh?” He leaned over and hugged Conan.
The little detective stiffened, then allowed himself to relax in the magician’s hold. “Yeah… the lying is part of it. And of course, the fact that I shrunk… I’m never seen as what I actually am. It just hurts so much, and I want to tell them, but I can’t, because if they find out…” He shivered. “I don’t understand how Haibara can deal with this but I can’t. Doesn’t she hate it too? Being called a brat when she’s actually around ten years older?”
“She might,” Kid replied. “She just deals with it differently than you do, perhaps. Or she’s better at hiding it. Have you ever let her see you like this?”
No, Conan thought.
“If you haven’t, then maybe she’s even the same as you. You can’t jump to conclusions.” Kid continued. “You might not be alone. You can talk to her about this.”
“I kinda do,” Conan muttered. “I ask her to give me temporary antidotes.”
Kid sighed. “That’s not really talking to her about it. But if you’d rather talk to someone else, I’m here for you.”
Conan fought down the warm feeling blooming inside his chest at those words. “How can you be here for me? I only see you at heists, and it’s not even for long.”
A distant shout of “KAITOU KID!” in Nakamori’s voice supported this.
“Then you’ll just have to visit me, huh?” Kid grinned. “Are you okay now, tantei-kun?”
“...yeah, I think I am.” It wasn’t a lie this time. His brief conversation with Kid did help, and the idea that he wasn’t alone… it made him smile slightly. Not much, he didn’t want the thief to get smug.
“Well then,” Kid said, standing up. “I’m afraid I have to take my leave.” He tossed the stolen jewel at Conan, who caught it. “This is not the jewel I am looking for, so please return it to the kind inspector. And,” He handed Conan a card. “I’ll be there whenever you need me.” With that, he opened his hang glider and soared into the night sky just as Nakamori and a few more officers busted their way onto the roof.
After handing the jewel to Nakamori, hearing Masumi rage about the thief once again using her face, and returning home with Ran, Conan read the note Kid had left him. It was an address, a phone number, and a name.
Kuroba Kaito.
Conan smiled. “Thank you,” he whispered, before getting ready to go to sleep.

Decide doing Translation this fanfic from ao3
https://href.li/?https://archiveofourown.org/works/30040782
Some are mistake because google translation can be wrong…
False proposals remain proposals
— Grrr... That fucking KID! I swear next time I'm gonna put my hands on him and finally put him behind bars!
The few policemen who made the bad decision to accompany Inspector Nakamori on his way out to the bar had no choice but to increasingly seclude themselves in their seats in the face of the shouts of their superior. The only person present who seemed unfazed by the din of the man was nothing more or less than the one who organized this small event: the private detective himself Kogoro Mouri, who under the pretext of "it's your birthday" could convince the inspector and some poor devils of the squad to accompany him to one of his favorite bars in the city. Rather the only one who did not need to be convinced was Nakamori. The poor man was so stressed that he had not caught the famous thief in his last robbery two days ago that at the first moment he was offered a jug of alcohol he had already halved it.
- Sure, sure! the culprit interrupted him from his meeting, passing his arm through the neck of the birthday boy. You can worry about that thief another day, tonight is a night to drink!
While the only thing Kogoro was most likely looking for was a mate to get drunk, the officers said the peers couldn't help but think there was something more hidden beneath that "working friends" facade. The detective did not bother to respect the inspector's personal space, not only hugging him with one arm but also giving soft touches whenever he recounted something or a light jolt when the man appeared to stop responding briefly. For someone like Nakamori who considered their space very important... this acting just left them dumbfounded.
Now that you thought about it, haven't you been acting a little close lately?
"Ah, Kogoro..." Nakamori spoke, drunk enough not to remember his companion's last name but sober enough to remember
The detective just mumbled a weak "huh?" before looking at his watch on his wrist. He had to blink a couple of times to stop seeing cloudy and concentrate on the device needles, 1 PM? No, that was-
"One in the morning?" exclaimed suddenly, the adrenaline rush getting him a little drunk. Ran's gonna kill me if I come back so late!
Ran...? the inspector mumbled in confusion before connecting the pieces. Ran was his daughter. He also had a daughter who was probably waiting for him at home. Damn it, Aoko's probably in a rage...
The young cops just felt sorry for them. Like the young people they were, they could still stay at the bar for an extra hour. They did not want to go home, otherwise they would have offered to accompany either man to their homes.
"I'd better take a taxi," Kogoro quickly took his things and prepared to leave, before being stopped by Nakamori.
— Ah, Kogoro, we have to go in the same direction, do you think we could share that taxi?
"I don't see why not," he nodded. Let's go have one on the street, Ginzo.
The officers watched as the two men marched in step, Kogoro again playing his inspector by guiding him with one hand on his back.
Between the three of them looked at each other.
"Hey, don't you think...
— ...it will be possible...
— ...that remotely...
— ...Our inspector and Sleeping Kogoro are dating?
No one at the station seemed surprised to see Nakamori holed up in his office dealing with a powerful hangover. From the moment he entered the building with a face indicating that he was more eager to stay in his bed sleeping than to listen to the complaints of his superior, there was no person in the precinct who wanted to approach because of the fear of irritating him.
A small group of officers had gathered just outside his office, whispering to each other what appeared to be the latest new news from the precinct. The superintendent of Shintaro Chaki, well known for being almost always in a bad mood, was already fed up with his subordinates spending more time chatting like old gossips than concentrating on their daily chores; so he took the opportunity to appear behind the group to repress them.
— What is happening here? asked, very upset about the situation.
"Ah, superintendent! exclaimed the quartet of police among surprised and scared. We were just sharing the news with everyone.
— News? What news?
- You don't know? Inspector Nakamori and Sleeping Kogoro are dating! They are so close that they are even called by their names without honorees.
Of all the gossip I could have heard, the fact that Nakamori had gotten a new partner after so many years was really down the list.
"Oh, oh, oh, my head..."
Inside the Mouri detective agency, Conan watched something amusing as Kogoro bemoaned his hangover lying on his desk. The poor man found himself half-disheveled and with his suit badly worn and wrinkled, he was still wearing the same one from the night before.
"You're an amazing dad." Ran was still quarreling with his father, just as he had barely managed to set foot inside the house. First you're going to drink leaving us alone with Inspector Megure, then I stay up late waiting for you to come back and finally you decide to come back almost noon without even leaving a message on the phone or answering machine!
Yes, Kogoro loved his daughter very much, but the only thing he didn't need at the time was someone yelling at him in the ear at full volume.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," she murmured as she massaged her temple. But I told you I don't remember anything from last night! I woke up an hour ago at a motel and I came straight here... I think my self yesterday was drunk enough not to remember where he lived and decided to sleep on the road.
The truth is that waking up there was a rather strange event. Few, very few, were the times when Kogoro did not remember how he had come home after having taken until he almost lost consciousness, but even on those occasions he always dawned in his comfortable bed. That's why it was so rare to have woken up in a motel relatively far from the agency, completely naked and also on the floor for having fallen out of a double bed. Worst of all, his body hurt. Moving, walking, anything was uncomfortable. And even if he was in his forties, there was no reason why Kogoro should feel sore after he had taken it.
"When I went to the front desk trying to pay for the room, the employee told me that I had nothing to worry about, that everything was paid for," she sighed. I wonder if anyone decided to guide me to a motel because he couldn't remember my address... he even bothered to fix everything.
Ran went on to berate his father, who simply tried to sink deeper and deeper into his desk to avoid feeling how every word drilled into his head. He almost breathed a sigh of relief when the agency's phone rang and, even if he was not in a position to take any cases, he immediately attended to escape even if it was an instant from his daughter.
— Detective Bureau Mouri, how can I help?
— Mouri-kun! a lively voice answered from the other side. I thought we were friends! I can't believe you didn't tell me something like this.
- Huh? answered in confusion. What the hell was Megure talking about? What was I supposed to tell you?
- Don't play dumb! -Inspector Megure's shout was so loud that even Ran and Conan across the room were able to hear it. How do you think I felt when I found out that one of my closest friends had started dating someone and he wasn't the one who told me?!
For one, two, three seconds.
"HUH?"
Ran had taken Conan to primary school and she was attending her own classes, so Kogoro was now alone at the agency. In theory he was to find himself alone, because in front of him, with his arms crossed and his frown frowned upon, a very annoying Ginzo Nakamori walked from side to side as if going from wall to wall would provide the solution to the problem in which they were.
"Then..." Kogoro began, making Nakamori stop for a moment to pay attention. Everyone in the police force believes that for some reason we are a couple.
"For any reason?" As I heard in the precinct, you couldn't keep your hands still! cried the inspector. Now my superior, Superintendent Chaki, wants me to take my "new partner" to lunch with him and his wife this Sunday!
Mouri snuck into his seat, looking to hide as much as possible from the elder's screams.
- W-but- why did you accept his invitation?
"I had a terrible hangover thanks to your departure last night! I could hardly tell what he was talking to me, I saw myself with no choice but to nod to everything he said. How do you expect that hours after I confirmed to my superior that I was dating, I would simply tell him that I didn't hear him for having the worst hangover of my life? Don't you know how unprofessional that is? I could be suspended!
The detective sighed. They were really in a difficult situation.
- Now what Inspector Megure said makes sense...said he.
"Huh?" What did Inspector Megure say?
- Ah! Well... apparently first he heard the rumors going around your division... And this morning I got a call from him saying that he happened to have to come early to the station and went by the Beika Motel, where he saw you come out first and within minutes of me from the place—he admitted something sad.
For a few seconds they both kept quiet.
But when I woke up in that room I was alone...
"Of course not!" I was just lying on the floor, probably because I fell somewhere in the night. That's why when you woke up you thought you were alone, you couldn't see me on the other side of the bed. Surely I woke up to the sound of the door when you left.
With a whimper of frustration, Nakamori dropped into one of the agency's sofas, too exhausted to think of all the problems that did nothing but pile up.
Everybody thinks we're dating, right? asked Kogoro, to which the eldest nodded. Then why don't we just go play along?
- Play along?
- You know! We had lunch with the superintendent and his wife over the weekend, pretended to keep going out for a couple more days and then we were done! Superintendent Chaki won't know you lied to him, Inspector Megure will continue to trust me, and the other officers will have something else to whisper about for the next two weeks.
Nakamori's first impression was to think that his companion had simply lost his mind. But the more he thought about his options, the only thing he saw possible was what Kogoro was saying. That showed how bad his situation was.
- Good! he resigned himself. On one condition. This will end as soon as possible after that damn lunch.
"Of course I do!" But I too must accept under one condition.
- But you were the one with the idea! Why should you demand something?
— But this must be beneficial to me too! "a sly smile was present on the detective's face." For all of us, we're just going out but there's nothing official yet, so... I want a great public proposal that can become a viral sensation! As today's young people would say: "Do it big or go home."
Nakamori was completely dumbfounded.
"Are you crazy?" Of course not! he growled. We don't have twenty years to do these things! Besides, why would someone like you care about something like that?
"Because," he interrupted, "you just have to think about this for a moment!" The fact that famous detective Mouri Kogoro starts dating one of Tokyo's most prestigious inspectors will be the most important news of the whole month! The public loves gossip," he continued. And, above all, gossip brings fame to those involved. My popularity will grow to the clouds!
For some reason, he wasn't surprised that someone like Kogoro had such a reason to stick with the plan.
— Also when we announce our separation, my mail will be filled with letters from nice girls who want to comfort me! In all those TV scandals it's always the fans who give support to their idols. I could even get an email from my dear Yoko-chan!
There was no choice but to accept.
Surprisingly, Ginzo's confession was a viral hit.
With the help of his daughter Aoko (who was more than happy to be able to participate in something like this) and his friend Kaito, the man managed to film a video in which, laden with gifts, flowers and alcohol, he appeared at the Mouri agency to declare his infinite love for the detective and how much he needed it.
By next morning all of Japan's newscasts were talking about the new Tokyo couple and how popular the two men had become.
Kogoro kept receiving letters from fans congratulating him on their relationship and a few of his love disappointments. Nakamori, meanwhile, was assisted by the detective to have lunch with Superintendent Chaki later that weekend. The man looked strangely happy during the event, even though at work he spent almost the whole day in bad temper it was clear he was quite sensitive to any love-related issue. He could even remember his words in firing the lovebirds in the afternoon: "I'm glad to know you can finally get by. I'm sure Mrs. Nakamori would agree that they make a beautiful couple."
Maybe that's why it was so hard to end that fake relationship after that. It just didn't feel right to do so soon.
The first few weeks Kogoro had taken the trouble to visit Nakamori when there was no customer to keep the farce and keep giving the impression of not-so-young lovers. At least that was his excuse at first, since one day he suddenly realized that the real reason for his visits was to spend as much time as possible with the inspector. More than staying home and watching some Yoko show, he longed more to travel to the police station and simply chat with his "partner" or accompany him until the moment he went home or had a beer at a nearby bar. Far from bothering him, Ginzo gradually began to appreciate every appearance of the detective in his precinct, even becoming disillusioned when he had no news of him for a whole day.
Within a month, when it was already quite safe to announce its breakup, another problem became present. And rather than being frustrated that they couldn't finish everything, deep down they were relieved.
"On the day of the sun, just as Artemis is at the highest point, I am going to take the jewel that is so jealously guarded in the heart of the city.
PD: I send a rose next to this notice to congratulate the inspector on his new relationship and to wish them well. I hope you both can attend my show to receive a surprise worthy of your love.
-Kaitou KID"
Kaitou KID's notices could not be kept secret for long, so just twelve hours after the police received it all the major Japanese media already announced the theft of the famous thief at the same time they used to revive the news of their romance and how they received blessings even from someone like KID. If they broke up now, they were only going to look bad.
The agreement was to wait a while longer after the robbery, until most had forgotten the subject and surprised them with the news of the separation.
But of course, nothing came out as they expected.
Boy, that white-gloved fucking thief had kept his word.
Kogoro ended up accompanying Nakamori to the Beika museum to protect the jewel and, even if he did not finish accepting it, because it had already become a custom for him to see his "partner" work. For some reason he loved to see how the man could control his squad with ease, admired the dedication he put to his work and really left a warm feeling in his chest when in his evening talks drinking at a Nakamori bar he confessed to him that there were few things he loved as much as his work. As promised, Kaitou KID showed up at midnight and stole the jewel in front of the entire police squad and mocking all the security measures taken. At the time of his escape, the thief activated a device that covered the museum's entire main room of confetti and colored papers, raining down even different types of colorful flowers. A bouquet of red roses fell right in front of the inspector, accompanied by a caption reading: "I wish you happiness." and signed by the typical KID cartoon stamp.
And, far from everyone forgetting their relationship, that event only served to make Japanese people want to know more about them and their personal lives. On several occasions the poor men had to deal with reporters and journalists who went to look for them at work or their home in an attempt to get an exclusive interview with one of the two most popular men of the moment. Of course Ginzo, being the professional he was, was always looking for an excuse to politely refuse and get rid of the annoying journalists.
Instead Kogoro...
"Why the hell did you agree to do that interview?" the inspector roared, whipping both hands hard at the desk where Kogoro worked.
- She was a very pretty girl! How could I refuse to receive it? he replied fearfully, aware at the time that perhaps giving an exclusive would not have been the best idea.
"But now all of Japan thinks we're getting married!"
Maybe during the interview the lie got out of hand...
- Sorry, sorry! he apologized over and over again.
Ginzo sighed. Now there was no chance of ending the farce and not being left as the biggest con artists in the whole country. He watched Kogoro give his speech about how he regretted talking to that girl, but he didn't really pay attention to what he was saying. For a few moments he let his mind wander.
Was this fake relationship worth breaking up?
Even if he was the one who was against the idea at first, at that moment the continuation with the detective didn't sound so bad. It could be a little loose, alcoholic, lazy, lazy... several of those were synonymous, right? But by interacting more personally with him over the last few months he had managed to see it in a new light. Aside from his daughter and a few co-workers, Nakamori now longed for someone else's company. Suddenly all the moments with Kogoro stopped being a nuisance to become something I was looking forward to. The subtle displays of public affection had ceased to be embarrassing to feel more special. And the congratulations they received at some point began to leave a warm feeling in his chest.
Would it be possible that...
Kogoro was shocked to receive a kiss on the lips, shutting his monolog instantly and covering his face with such intense red that anyone could mistake him for a tomato. Within seconds Ginzo parted, also blushing and breathing somewhat agitatedly.
- I'm withdrawing my condition. I don't want this deal to end anymore.
The detective still didn't know what to say, barely able to process what had just happened.
All I knew was that I agreed with the inspector.
— Do those journalists want a wedding? Then let's give her the best wedding in the whole region.
Before he could even give an affirmative, Nakamori had jumped at him again. And far from putting him away, the game followed.

Note
I wish you would write about Shrunk! Nakamori-keibu AND Shrunk! KID. Like they both had got poisoned by Apotoxin4869 during a confrontation with Snake (Nakamori-keibu was just the unlucky dude who reached the rooftop after KID first this time in this scenario and saw something he shouldn't be). Kaito got turned into a kid just like how Shinichi did, but Nakamori ended up becoming a teenager after that the two are forced to work together
I wish you would write a fic where...
(What is it with all the shrunk AU, is this the vibe I keep giving)
I think, instead of getting them poisoned at the same time, it would be on different instances.
So let’s go with Snake having links to the BO, enough to be given their accidental poison, or maybe he stole it from them at some instance, whatever.
Snake managed to corner KID, except there is too much police presence around to just shoot him and be done with it. Luckily, he got that horribly painful indetectable poison, and feed it to KID. KID was hurt beforehand, and that’s why he cannot avoid getting poisoned. Sadly, income noise/presence means Snake cannot stay to make sure the fucker stay dead this time, but he’s been told there’s 100% mortality rate and so he leaves.
KID manage to put himself out of the way before anyone can stumble across him. Once the coast is clear, he calls Jii to come and get him. And after a little breakdown, Kaito starts planning (even though Jii is asking him to rest a bit, Kaito can’t stop now, he has to do something to salvage this situation.) So after a call to his mother, “Kaito Kuroba” suddenly has to leave Japan to go live with his mother in the US.
He also refuses to let Kaito KID disappear, even though both Jii and Chikage are begging him to stop, he coulda, should have died, it was only luck that saved him. But he refused to let them win. So at first it was mostly Jii taking his place whenever he have to appear, or carefully crafted optical illusion (like using shadows and stuff so he can still look taller, etc.), and so KID stay in the game, which pisses off Snake a great deal because how did he survive death twice? But there is also a change in modus operandi, that the KID task force (and Conan and Hakuba) notices.
Hakuba investigate Kaito’s disappearance (especially once he learns he didn’t say anything beforehand to the Nakamori, and that it seems to be a decision that came from nowhere to just leave) and KID change of modus operandi. Main opinion is that Kaito died and someone else took his place as a third KID.
Nakamori investigate what could have made KID change his modus operandi, but refuses Hakuba’s theory that it’s linked to Kaito leaving. He dig through what happened on the last heist before The Change, and slowly starts finding information that was “lost”, about gunshot and blood and screams.
He get too close at some point, and got fed the APTX. Maybe Snake says something about having given some to KID, even though the thief somehow survived, the inspector shouldn’t have his luck.
(Except he does, and he survives, only younger.)
Now Kaito has gone to ground when he got shrunk, but he still keeps an eye on the Nakamoris (and generally on anyone investigating KID) which lead him to finding shrunk Nakamori.
Something interesting to explore would be Nakamori’s reaction, and how he would deal with stumbling on this investigation, considering he’s a police officer who has no knowledge of the BO beforehand. Who would he seek for help? He most likely would try to avoid his daughter, but I can imagine him seeking help from the police because (to some extent) he trusts them (and he doesn’t know the BO got their hands everywhere, even though he got some doubts considering all the information that wasn’t reported on in the KID investigation).
So I guess he would go look for some trusted officer, except they don’t believe him. Because, really, who would? This is surreal and sounds like a joke. Luckily, Kaito hear about it soon enough (or he sees him exit the police station), and friendly kidnap Nakamori, and then they plan.
I guess Conan would hear about Nakamori’s disappearance, and maybe some rumor about a teenager who came to the police station saying he’s Nakamori and got poisoned and shrunk, and from this point he would get involved in finding him and in that way find out about KID.
They team up, they take down the BO, they find an antidote, happy end.
--
Ginzo kicked a rock as he exited the station. He thought his men would be better than that, that they would at least give him the benefit of the doubt, but they only ignored him. He kicked it harder. What could he do now? Who would believe an apparent teenager with such concerns?
With all the teen detectives running around, you would think they’ll listen more to a teenager’s concern, he thought darkly.
He kicked the rock a third time, passing in front of an alleyway, when he felt an arm snake around his waist, a hand on his mouth before he even got the thought to scream. He tried kicking around, but his smaller stature made his training ineffective, and he got dragged to the alleyway without anyone noticing.
“Please calm down, Inspector Nakamori,” an old man’s voice said to his ear. It sounded familiar but he couldn’t place it. He still tried kicking around a bit more, but it proved ineffectual.
Still, how does that man knew he was Nakamori? No one believed him at the station, and he knew this wasn’t one of the officer.
He had no time to ponder as he was dragged into a car. The door locked, and he turned toward his kidnappers.
The front door opened to let the old man in, and no wonder he was familiar.
“Jii, is that you?” he hadn’t expected to see Toichi’s old assistant anytime soon.
And sitting at the front passenger sit, a kid. He looked familiar as well, and as he turned toward Ginzo and smiled, this led no doubt.
“Kaito?”

Rules: List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less than 20, just list them all). See if there are any patterns. Choose your favorite opening line, then tag 10 of your favorite authors!
So... my initial thought had been to go dumpster diving in my fics folder, which has over 200 combined completed and work-in-progress, fandom and original fics.  A few moments later I realized that I could instead take a stroll through my Microsoft Word documents history instead, though as far as “last”... well, I have anywhere from five to fifteen story docs open at any given time.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
(Quick note: if I list it as WIP, it’s not published anywhere yet.  I’m also not including ideas that are just that: ideas—with nothing actually written down besides the outlined summary.)
Otherwise, without further ado and in no particular order:

The dinner party was assuredly not somewhere that he wanted to be at.
Untitled - Original Work, WIP
Going from the silent nothingness of several thousand years of death to alive and breathing was akin to getting spiritual whiplash from a sledgehammer to the soul.
Apparently Insanity Welcomes Everybody, for the Insanity, Apparently series - DCMK, WIP
“It’s amazing to me how busy a KID heist always is,” Takagi Wataru commented as he passed through the security checkpoint.

So... yeah.  I have a lot of WIPs.  Go me.  As you can see, DCMK kind of stole my brain, but other fandoms have managed to squeak in.  Uh, since I don’t know many people here on tumblr... tag, you’re it, @circumference-pie.  ^.^;;;
