My not-entirely-serious take on the polyamory discourse that was on my dash... yesterday? The day before? Is that it would be greatly improved by people coining the concept of "monogamy+" in the same sense as "cis+".
(again please don't take this too seriously I haven't put that much thought into it, but I do think it would help make a clearer distinction between "examine your preferences (read: they are bad and you should feel bad)" vs "it's genuinely fine if the default works best for you but it might be better for both your own well being and how you treat others if you get there through deliberate choices (and in the case of relationships, clear communication) rather than simply assuming it as the only option").
#is this discourse? I hope it's not discourse#i also hope it's not vagueblogging#but it is inspired by discourse that was on my dash so.#....personal confession that I'm not even sure how I feel about 'cis+' because I am one of those people who'd have been fine with default#if I hadn't thought too much about it#and considering it harder had benefits but also the drawback of just making me aware of discomfort that's not strong enough for me to#actually bother doing anything about#so yeah don't take this too seriously/take both parts of the analogy with a grain of salt#but I think I mostly stand behind it#and that the benefits of being deliberate outweigh the problems it creates#and even when they don't having the distinction makes it clearer what each side of the conversation actually objects to

genuine question but is there any fandom where a character is well written by the majority. im thinking about fandom culture and the spread of frustration when people dont write characters well but. honestly in all the fandoms ive been in there's only like, a Select number of authors who i trust to write Well, let alone write Well AND In Character. character analysis and writing and getting inside characters' heads are all separate skills (all of which are trained by roleplaying fyi can CONFIRM playing pretend with your friends is good for you). there's been more than once where I've disagreed with an interpretation that others agreed with, and then I turned out wrong. or i turned out right. like it doesnt matter WHO is right it just matters that differences in character analysis exist, so even if you DO write well AND write in character, your in character is still going to be someone else's out of character
there's this sort of. vibe. that to play in the sandbox you Need to be able to make a castle, and if you can't make a castle then you shouldn't bother, and it completely dismisses the idea that youre in that sandbox to PLAY in the first place. there's this Weight of disappointing someone if you can't build something that they like, but that forgets that you aren't there to build them a castle. like, be KIND. if you disagree with someone then please make an effort to do so kindly. i dont give a shit about fandom discourse but there is a reason kids get removed from sandboxes if they keep throwing sand in people's eyes. but if they don't like your misshapen sand pile, then youre not obligated to change it. even if you yourself end up hating that same sand pile later- youre not building a legacy. youre playing. and sometimes the result of that play is out of character drivel. theres a reason there are so many authors and so few who i like to consistently read and thats because everyone is Fucking Around in their hobby space. hash tag brag or whatever but i can build castles. ive built several that im v proud of. ive also dug holes in the sand for fun and then tripped on them when trying to get up. I often dug a hole and then got up and fucking- whoops, its a castle now, and i didn't realize i'd made something to be proud of until after the fact. the whole time while creating shit i was Convinced it was bullshit that didn't make sense. and then other times i was Convinced it was bullshit and then i was Right and i can look back and go. huh. ew. but it doesn't matter what the end result was, because i had fun playing in the sandbox
this wasn't meant to turn into a ramble but i have Feelings about bad art and art that's badly perceived and how public perception can screw with your head and how making art youre proud of is fucking. it's so difficult!!! it's hard!! it's really fun, which is why i try to make it, but i promise you it is Okay to not tryhard creativity. even if you CAN, it's okay not to do it all the time. or ever, even. fuck around find out have fun etc
#NOT a discourse post i am musing out loud#there's discourse goign around the dash rn or i wouldnt mention it#but the past few weeks ive seen a lot of “DONT fucking mischaracterize my guy my fuckign god”#which is one of the most frustrating pet peeve there is#but i think a lot too about little baby me#fresh on her writing journey#and how discouraged i would be if someone pointed out the mistakes id made#i made a Lot of fuckups#and i also think about this one fic where one of the characters was INCREDIBLY out of character#me today would not be able to stomach reading it#but baby me was so ENCHANTED#and it introduced to me the concept that you dont always know the reason someone does something#and it made me read even more#and because of that i eventually found Expert Skill level fics#which introduced me to MANY little tricks and fidgets ive tried to implement#there were so so many reviews on that fic that called it shit or complained about the bad characterization#but a decade later i still think about it#there were several very corny mine/craft horror fics i read#which back in the day would be called cringe#and those were what inspired me to write my first horror fic and now im Enchanted by the whole genre#theres a lot of stuff i dont like to read but i like that other people are enjoying themselves#i dont know how to be succinct i hope my point is coming across well#this ties into my thing where fiction is for you first others later#here are my credentials: bb/h fan since before the elections (hi i was the guy who noticed his lack of armour post elections)#and a cross-fandom comment trend of people going 'woa i can see this happening in canon'#im not talking out my ass i genuinely think its more important to have fun than to write accurate characterization#which. is a more 'duh' and clarifying thing than everything else ive written#but ah well c'est la vie#also also just realized this could be interpreted like that- NOT an attack on people who complain about mischaracterization either lmao#i do that too w friends. this is to reassure people who put pressure on themselves to create things Well all the time

i think its natural to feel sad when bad things happen to characters you like and take joy when they beat their villains that have been causing them all their problems
but the fact that none of these people are real is important context, and carrying these emotions onto people off the page is not advisable.
getting mad at the author for creating the situation is a very different kind of criticism than getting mad at the character, and getting mad at fellow fans of the series for having a different opinion on the character than you is somewhat ridiculous to me.
Please don't attack and hate real people for fictional actions.
#inspired by the chainsaw man fandom#and some crazy makima discourse crossing my dash#as well as somewhat over the top rage i see about yoshida and fumiko and uh.#actually every character because thats what happens with mainstream shonen discourse#but im making this more general because its common in almost every fandom#edit: I scheduled this post back in December and I no longer remember what the drama was about.#but I still agree with the general point so I'm letting the post go through.#fandom#step.blogger

I am going to say something that has really been bothering me that not everyone may agree with, which is totally okay, everyone is entirely valid to disagree with me: There is a fast fashion problem in fandom, specifically fanfiction.
Disclaimer: This conversation is not about broadly writing the same tropes, genres, and ideas. I am not talking about people writing fics with similar themes or the same name. I am specifically talking about people writing fics that are very obviously heavily influenced by other fics. This is not me talking about: I wrote __ character as enemies to lovers vampires and so did this person so they stole. Please do not trivialize this conversation with instances that are very obviously not what I'm talking about.
As someone who exists in the fanfiction space, I want to express what I have seen specifically in this space in my own experience, my mutuals experiences, and random experiences I have seen on my dash.
Recently, it seems like there is a reoccurring theme of writers (often new writers) taking "inspiration" from fanfics that they love and value and essentially creating their own version of that story to the point it is bordering on plagiarism. I say bordering on plagiarism because while people may not be copying line for line or entire scenes in order, you can tell that it is a re-arranged duplicate of another story.
I am not talking about writing similar tropes and dynamics. No one owns a trope or a dynamic. I am specifically talking about people taking the plots, scenes, concept and core of fanfics and recreating it and changing some plot elements or placing it in a different alternate universe and calling it their own, when at the heart of that fanfic, it is taken from someone else's creation.
This to me, reads like people who read a work, fall in love with it, but think 'this is easy to do, I can do this myself' and they end up making a replica of a fic that you can tell is a replica of another fic, despite adding some changes. Nine times out of ten, these inspired fics lack the obvious thought and heart the original writer put into it.
Which, begs the question: How is this different than fanfic writers taking inspiration from media (i.e. published books, movies, music, shows)? Because fanfiction is meant to replicate a specific something from published media. It is not meant to duplicate an already established fanfiction contribution.
I know that the nuance between that line is very ambiguous and it brings up the discourse on 'should there be fanfiction of fanfiction' - to which my response is it is, generally, pretty obvious what the difference between being inspired by a fic and copying a fic are.
In the last few months, I have lost count of how many times I or mutuals have a) discovered someone has been writing a story based off of their fic 2) have been asked to use an already written work to make their own or 3) already have started writing works modeled after an already written work and in hindsight asked the author if they could keep doing so (this third instance almost always happens after someone accuses them of stealing another work).
This feels like the fast fashion industry. Someone finds a story that is popular (whatever that means to the individual), takes all of the elements they think makes the story works, rearranges it, posts it as their own and and says they were 'inspired' (if they credit the original story at all).
This is why so many works that readers are coming across feel like they are the same thing. It is the same A + B + C = D over and over and over again, because people are outright just taking what they think works from other stories and using it.
Again - I am not talking about people who come across a trope, AU, genre or dynamic they like and add something similar to their story. I am talking about the people who are very intentionally and obviously writing the same exact fic with their own 'twist' (whatever that means).
Why is this a problem (beyond the fact that it's essentially roundabout plagiarism)? You're taking the heart, soul, and creativity someone poured into something and posting it on your own and robbing it of the originality, the essence, and the intention behind it. You cannot replicate a writer's feelings and obvious emotions that they have poured into the original work, and it shows. And it is gutting to the original authors who are finding remixes of their work across the fanfiction space.
Please consider whether or not you are inspired by a story or if you are redoing it in your own image. If you find yourself worried enough about your story that you feel like you have to publicly credit someone to avoid scrutiny, perhaps the question needs to be asked of whether you're just redoing what someone else already wrote.
Please do not confuse inspiration and recreation. 9 out of 10 authors will love that they inspired you to write, but would not love to find that you wrote a fic inspired by them that is a rearranged or hollowed-out version of the fic they wrote.
The fanfic space wants and needs more writers, but it does not need people unwilling to create their own art, instead taking bits and pieces from others and calling it a success.
Also adding: This problem also directly contributes to 'smaller' writers or more niche (often queer and bipoc) stories not getting the hype, readership, or recognition they deserve. On more than one occasion I've seen stories that had explicitly queer or bipoc characters taken and turned into heteronormative or white-presenting stories.
Note: This 1000% goes for actual visual art as well, including gifs etc. in fandom but I'm not well-versed there and thus, did not include it.
#i genuinely have very much like been pushed to the edge this week#and i feel like getting this off of my chest#and i don't think i am crazy but maybe i am#this is also a VERY broad rant of what i'm talking about and does not cover all the nuances of this

WHO IS CROWLEY AFTER THE FALL?
so there is a LOT of debate over who Crowley was before The Fall. I have seen a lot of headcanons going around the place saying he was Raphael or Kokabiel or Baraqiel.
I mean this is the Exhibit A for saying that Crowley is Baraqiel. I think NOT.
Because this is a handbook written by demons for demons. The title is literally (if my memory serves me right) a guide to angelic beings that walk the earth. SO Crowley is not That..
Other than the red hair thing, no other physical characteristic matches. This Baraqiel guy sounds like an absolute gremlin. grisly slug, occasionally damp. NOT CROWLEY. I mean she's the most dashing thing around.
NO. #3 It says CROWLEY one line above the name Baraqiel. If Crowley is Baraqiel then why would his demon name appear right under that?????
And I think somewhere Neil Gaiman refuted this theory (I'm not really sure but I think so plz don't come at me with pitchforks if I got it wrong). So.......
But this is all beside the point. What I'm trying to say is that too much has been said about who Crowley was before he fell. There is very little, if not none, that has been said about who he was After.
Some say that he's an insignificant demon or some loser guy in Hell or whatever the equivalent of an angel principality deputy on Earth is.
I BEG TO DIFFER.
He is Important. Just look at the kind of assignments he's given. Original Sin, Major Historical Temptations and Evil Acts, Delivering the Antichrist and bringing about Armageddidn't.
But who is he exactly??????????
So canonically we're never told what Crowley's rank in Hell is. But there are more that enough hints for us to figure that out for ourselves.
But where does one place him when the hierarchy is so complex and varying across different historical and theological sources.
Such as here:
I have been thinking about this and I have two current theories
Crowley is Astaroth
Crowley is The Leviathan
I'll discuss only one in this post. I'll save the other for the next post.
Now book!Omens clearly tells us that Crowley or Crawley is not his real demonic name. For those who haven't read the book this happens when Hastur Lavista and Ligur come to hand over the antichrist to Crowley in the churchyard and as he's about to sign his name as "Crowley" they tell him to sign his real demonic name.
Are you with me?!!!!!
NANNY ASHTORETH!
Why did she use this particular name for her nanny disguise. What if...... what if this IS her real demon name.
A lot of my real life friends are annoyed beyond measure by my constant ranting about etymologies, origin and construction of discourse and epistemology, especially when it comes to presenting my thesis over how all Abrahamic religions and their symbology and iconography is, how do I put it, inspired from pagan religions that they expunged. I mean the concept of angles, the man shaped being with wings that is actually just a ball of fire or eyes or hale discs or sth is a pagan Persian concept.
Back to the matter at hand.
Ashtoreth, Astaroth, Astarte, Ishtar, are all the same name in different dialects and languages. All of these refer to a certain Babylonian goddess. When the People of God probably cleansed off all the infidels they decided to literally demonize their god and name a demon after her. In Milton's Paradise Lost Astaroth is one of the three princes or Grand Dukes of Hell alongside Beelz and Lucifer. If this theory might be true Crowley is a Prince/Grand Duke of Hell.
Now this gets even more interesting. Ashtoreth, Astarte, whatever you may, is a goddess of fertility and is associated with childcare. I mean at this point I just stopped to marvel at the attention to detail that Mr. Gaiman's work hold, the smallest hidden meanings in the storytelling.
Another thing. The Babylonians built these temples called ziggurats to worship Astarte and they looked something like this
and this
they were also known as sky temples.
Because Astaroth was first and foremost the goddess of stars and the Babylonians were stargazers and the temples were constructed as a stairway to heaven to take them closer to the stars and functioned as an observatory at times.
I'm just imagining Crowley turning up in ancient Babylon and with her other-worldly looks, knowledge of the stars and compassion for children they just..... started to worship her.
Before the Christians came and declared them pagans and the rest is history.
Continued in next post for the second theory......

In discussions of TCW-Anakin vs. film-Anakin, I understand why some people see them as being incompatible or entirely different portrayals. But whatever problems I personally have with TCW are more to do with certain OOC dialogue lines that I don't agree with, or the overly-contrived situations that TCW tends to force him into just so an episode or scene can function as a 'meta-commentary' on his character or storyline. Believe me, I have issues with specific aspects of TCW's writing for Anakin, but the fact he's more outwardly 'suave' or 'dashing' than some people expected is not one of them. If anything, I see the 'Skyguy' persona as perfectly in keeping with Anakin as portrayed at the beginning of RotS, and I would argue that a great deal of the TCW characterisation is pulled directly from those Battle of Coruscant scenes. TCW Anakin is also heavily inspired by Jake Lloyd's Little Ani in TPM, which, lest anyone forget, counts as FILM-Anakin. Seriously, do people not recall how much swagger and self-confidence little Ani has at the beginning of TPM? (🎵Do you see him hitting on the queen, though he’s just nine and she’s fourteen.’ 🎶 😅) He's a hotshot little ace podracing pilot and he knows it! And in AotC, the only reasons Anakin comes across as more 'awkward' at the beginning is that he's nervous about seeing Padme again after so long. Once he knows for sure she reciprocates his feelings at the battle of Geonosis, the suave, confident Anakin is back! And thus by the time of the Clone Wars, it makes sense that after being a general in the war in charge of many men, he'd have to have a certain level of outward charisma no matter how much inner doubt or turmoil he might be feeling. So, in my opinion, the actual baseline 'persona' for both versions of the character isn't as different as some seem to think. I'm tired of the idea that film-Anakin ISN’T supposed to be seen as ‘cool’ in-universe, just as much as I’m tired of the idea that TCW-Anakin ISN’T supposed to be viewed as a figure of pathos by the audience, either.
Imo, they’re both takes on the same character coming from different angles, set at different stages in his life, and portrayed through different mediums — an animated series heavy on self-aware, darkly ironic humour in a more contemporary style intended to entertain and increase enjoyment of the Prequels-era and its characters. vs. a more serious Greek tragedy with Shakespearean overtones made with old-Hollywood-style sensibilities as part of a mythic six-film saga.
While there are plenty of things that TCW gets wrong about Anakin (see my 'TCW discourse' tag for more on that), dismissing him because he is ‘too macho’ seems to miss the mark a bit. Just because TCW Ani doesn’t shed literal tears on-screen doesn’t mean he’s not emotional or emotionally vulnerable. As far as I remember, there's even a scene where Obi-Wan and Anakin discuss the fact that Anakin has trouble keeping his emotions hidden, especially when it comes to his feelings for his loved ones, which is the opposite of the stereotypical stoic, self-reliant 'macho' ideal. And the amount of times we're constantly bashed over the head with dramatic irony about his fate as Vader in that series surely drives home the point that his trajectory is a decidedly tragic one. (The way he cries out in agony in the Mortis arc, 'I will do such terrible things!' gets to me, every time.) Despite his powers and prowess, TCW Anakin is even shown as being physically vulnerable at times, as well — see the Jedi Crash storyline which he spends mostly knocked-out unconscious, the nod to his mechanical arm as a liability in the Zillo Beast and Citadel arcs, and the scene of him futilely struggling like a wild beast before being captured with ropes in the Zyggerian arc, or the fact he gets captured and tortured by Dooku in 'Shadow Warrior'. I see endless jokes about TCW Ani getting electrocuted every other episode, but then fandom uses this to fuel the dismissive view of him as just some dumb himbo instead of understanding that this, too, is supposed to add to the character's pathos.
Likewise, fandom claims that Prequels-Anakin is 'uncool' and 'cries all the time', which is simply not true. As noted above, film-Anakin banters, jokes, laughs, makes daring jumps out of speeders, does bold piloting moves, is in fact an imposing duellist, and so on. Sure, his character is not supposed to be seen as aspirational (obviously!) and the most memorable and dramatic moments of the latter two Prequels films feature him in the midst of extremely intense emotions. But the oft-repeated view of him as 'uncool' completely ignores the fact that by the time that RotS starts, film-Anakin is supposed to be a well-known and widely-admired charismatic general, aka the Hero With No Fear, who is viewed as almost singlehandedly saving the Republic. The audience may be privy to Anakin's inner struggles with his fear of loss, but in-story he is supposed to be seen as THE golden boy of the Jedi Order and the Republic. The RotS novelization frequently mentions that Anakin has 'dash', 'boldness', and a 'presence' 'like the Holo-Net hero that he is'. It literally says he's the best at what he does and he KNOWS it. He's not just supposed to be an awkward idiot in the way some people seem to perceive him solely based on certain scenes in AotC. Rather, he's supposed to be shown as falling from a 'great height'. By the time of RotS, film Anakin has just as much swagger and self-confidence in his role as General Skywalker as he does in TCW. Just because that side of him is not the main focus of the film doesn't mean it's not supposed to be there.
#anakin skywalker#the clone wars#tcw#the prequels#revenge of the sith#rots#the hero with no fear#rots novelization#tcw as meta commentary#fandom misconceptions#tcw discourse#unpopular opinions#I guess?#this is just my opinion#no one has to agree#Prequels-Anakin is everything to me but i think sometimes he gets 'fanon-ised' in an oversimplifed way#and for all his differences TCW Anakin evokes Little Ani to me quite strongly (especially in the early seasons) and have fondness for him#my my this here Anakin guy#you can't take the Sky(guy) from me

This post is inspired by one I saw about the "why are the curtains blue" discourse of literary analysis
Please bear with me because I cannot find it again and I did not read more than a few words before I accidentally clicked away and lost it to the void of my dash
So I really don't know if I'm just remaking their point since I'm not sure what their point is
But it did get me thinking
The two sides of the discourse seen to be:
1. The curtains are blue just because the author said they are blue. There is no need meaning (ie: things in a background of a story are just there there is no hidden depth)
And
2. The curtain are blue because the author intended represent the sadness and depression character A feels during this moment in a story (ie: everything in a fictional story has weight and meaning behind it and it's important to understand the authors intent)
And that's the problem with the "why are the curtains blue" discourse. It's way too focused on author's intention
When I was in school if the teacher was asking about the curtains for example it always "what did the author intend the curtains to represent?" Or "what did the author mean by adding this"
And I always struggled with that because
1: I don't have the author in front of me to ask and how am I supposed to know what was going through their head at the time
2: I know for a fact that when I write creatively sometimes my intention with a scene is that there curtains are just blue but other people read something deep into it
So it feels like the question is unnecessary bullshit
And that's because it's the wrong question to ask
If you asked me something like "How did the colour of the curtains contribute to the atmosphere of the scene" than I'm more likely to be able to give you an answer!
Because that's really what literature analysis is doing. It's less authors intention (though that is still a part of it) but also how do all the pieces of the story help shape it regardless of author intent.
And going back to my own writing when someone says something like "I really like how x detail shows that character A is really feeling my in this scene despite his brave front" and I don't even remember that detail nor intended for that to be the case?
I don't think "the curtains are just blue stupid" I think "wow. I'm a secret genius because that does totally do that!"
Like authors can write in those kind of details and not realise until a reader points it out. They can also convey a message that they didn't intend. Like Ray Bradbury has argued that Fahrenheit 451 was not about censorship at all but a lot of readers felt it was
And to a certain extent neither is wrong. Bradbury may not have intended that message but it's still what readers heard.
The question isn't "what is the true secret reason why the curtains were blue?"
The question "how did the curtains being blue influence your feelings while reading the scene?"

୨୧ byf ! i block blank, bot-looking blogs as well as spam likers (4+). spam liking can get me shadow banned so do reblog in between !
୨୧ don’t copy any of my works, themes, styles etc. if you’d like to take inspiration from any of my works, ask first. do not recreate any of my writings for another fandom. also don’t write any fics based on my character ramblings ( tagged as ・౨ৎ ─ 𝒓𝒂𝒎𝒃𝒍𝒆𝒔 𓏲˚˖ ᵎᵎ ) without asking & if i say yes, credit me appropriately at the beginning of the fic.
୨୧ don’t translate my works, use them to ai train or re-upload them anywhere
୨୧ don’t bring any form of discourse to my blog or inbox
୨୧ don’t ask me to be moots. i moot naturally through asks & frequent interaction in general
୨୧ i may break moots if we don’t interact ( like at all, whether via posts, asks or dms ). ofc everyone is busy so as long as i don’t hard block you don’t take it personal ! we can eventually become moots again as long as i don’t block you. i just prefer to reserve moots for people i often interact with.
୨୧ don’t trauma dump in my ask box. i appreciate all my readers very dearly but i can’t help you the way a professional will. you’re free to ask for advice on whatever whenever though !
୨୧ on that note you’re free to joke with me in my inbox as i’m very far from sensitive, but anything straight up rude will be ignored. let’s keep it silly n respectful here !
୨୧ if we haven’t interacted before & i block you, don’t take it seriously. i may block simply because i’ve seen you on my dash too often for my liking. it’s no hard feelings at all !
── .✦ 𝒘𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 ୨ৎ
୨୧ i take suggestions for smaus & fics, not requests. but note that not every suggestion will get written as i write what interests me. do be patient however as i may simply be saving your suggestion for later.
୨୧ i do not write nsfw but my content is largely 16+. my works are at best heavily suggestive / sexually implicit but where i draw the line is fingering, oral sex or actual intercourse. that said, the worst you might see in my heavily suggestive works are groping or verbal kinks like degradation or daddy/mommy kink.
୨୧ even without explicitly stating i usually write my characters as adults (18+). this is because my content regularly contains themes such as drugs, alcohol, etc.
୨୧ i will write sensitive / deep topics such as anxiety, mental illnesses, depression & drug use but i will not write :
⌗ pedophilia / overly large age gaps. sugar daddy / baby relationship is fine provided both parties are written as legal adults
⌗ blasphemous themes
⌗ stepcest or any form of romance where the characters are related in some way, whether by blood or under law
୨୧ all my writings are fem reader. also i don’t bother myself with trying to make my works inclusive for everyone. if i write the reader with big boobs then you now have big boobs. let’s not complicate things y’all !
done reading ? congrats ! you may now board the s.s mars. here’s a map of the spaceship, enjoy your stay !

I didn't expect my OC post to blow up but I'm glad it is, people deserve to have fun!
Now here's a little guide, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Also this is not to say you cannot create these or anything !!! I am just a little afraid people get confused?...
I've been seeing people post Kinsona adopts and such. Now i know SOME people find their kinselves through art and i am not here to discuss kin for fun discourse or my opinion on it, but I'll say even if its for fun, I'm not really sure how this works.
So i thought i'd put the differences between everything.
OC / Original Character / Original Creation = A character that is made by yourself, or with/by others. It can be anything.
Inspired OC = An OC that is inspired by something. Another OC, official Characters, themes (ex: space, flowers etc ), etc. Still can be anything.
-Sona = An OC or Character that might be you or Your take on something.
Examples: • CharacterSona ;; A Sona that is based off of an official character. Is not usually a kinsona/self and is just a design. COULD be a redesign, but this is typically just one offs. ( Ex: RainbowDashSona, someone has made a Rainbow Dash design that may not look anything or appear as to the original ). These can look close to canon to being an alternate universe where say Rainbow Dash is a Jedi or a Transformer and doesn't know the mane six.
• Kinsona ;; This is you! This is your kin. Kinsonas are when someone is a character, object, oc, etc and is designed to what you think or know you look/looked like. Similar to character sona as they can be AU related or not. But this is typically You and not-not you.
• Systemsona ;; This is a mascot for Systems! This could be multiple things
A systemsona to represent the whole system
Multiple Systemsonas for multiple headmates
A singletsona to appear as a singlet for the system
• Fursona ;; A sona that is a Furry !!! This can be anything also. It can be a brand new OC to an official character. This can also merge with kin, system and character sonas.
• Therian OC / Sona ;; Similar to kin! This is you but your therian type. May or may not be furry related, but is usually an animal. Feel free to correct me on this one because i do not know if fantasy animals count here or if fantasy animals have their own name /gen
Self Insert = You but not in a kin or a therian way, this is your OC Thats 100% you. Can be anything.
Note ;; This is not to say "stop making kinsona adopts" !!! This is just saying "hey this is the difference". I love kinsonas and i love OCs.
Also if its still hard to see the difference, thats okay! They are all very similar and if your oc changes a lot into one of these thats okay too! Nor am i saying "hey ocs have rules actually".
I hope you have fun and i hope you enjoy your creations!!!

‧ ˚. 𝐅𝐀𝐐 !!
‧ ˚. will you do x, y, z request?
check my rules! i take requests / suggestions on an inspiration basis (if it sparks something, it will be added to sab [future fics] tag). as a rule, i don't write overly specific requests (or i may pick and choose elements to include) -- but i do not write fics with readers with specific appearances or overly specific plot points.
‧ ˚. when will you post your next fic?
i try to post every friday / saturday around 8 PM EST - but since my fics are long as heck, it sometimes takes me two weeks to write one fic (since they are usually close to 10K or above 10K). i usually make update posts so just check under sab [speaks]
‧ ˚. do you have a taglist?
i do not! i only have taglists for series. i will tag based on those who show interest/ interact with fic posts (concept, snippets, etc). if you like the post, you might get tagged, but if you comment asking to be tagged you def will be!
‧ ˚. can i write a fic based on your concept posts?
no, please don't. those ideas are for me so i can keep it in mind and so i don't forget an idea i have (because i have the memory of a squirrel).
‧ ˚. why aren't you answering my ask?
this blog typically runs on queue - i do check here and there -- but i try to answer asks in the order received (i tend to run behind due to real life obligations). so i will get to your ask. if you send in requests, sometimes i don't reply because i'm keeping it in my inbox to see if it will spark a fic down the line! on another note, if you sent in something rude, i likely just blocked you - i don't tolerate hate in any form - directed towards me or anyone else.
‧ ˚. why do you post so many asks?
you guys interact with me a lot and i'm so lucky, but because of that it may seem like i'm clogging the dash, but really, i'm just trying to reply! i love talking to you guys so much and i just want to keep an active community!! i try to queue them between 30 minutes to an hour or longer between them at the very least!
‧ ˚. why are you writing this fic with x, y, z thing/s?
this is a hobby. i will write what i want. obviously there are things that are no gos - but i write dark content and very occasionally aged up character fics (usually not because the characters i tend to write for are already adults lmao). also i'm tired - i have a job, family stuff to deal with -- i don't want to argue with people over fiction. don't like what i post? block me!
‧ ˚. do you have any writing tips?
i have writing tips under sab [writing tips] - i am planning on making a masterlist of them, but for now, they are tagged under there.
‧ ˚. can you comment on discourse?
no, i don't care about discourse. i am an adult. i have a full time job and an elderly parent to care for. i have my own friends and hobbies, i do not have time to argue with people. i just want to have a good time with you guys and i love talking to you all about our collective brainrot :)

I'm so discouraged about Nano this year...
Like, obviously I wasn't gonna donate any damn money or buy any merch with everything that happened this year + last year, even though Killian and I used to BOTH donate yearly.
But I still wanted to do the challenge because... I dunno! Killian and I have been doing it pretty regularly for the past decade, and we've both done it intermittently for even longer. It's a good way to make myself sit down and bust out a bunch of words before winter hits and the long nights tank my productivity. It feels good to bust out a bunch of shit!
This year I just... ugh.
The website is broken as fuck. They bungled their store and instead are doing dropshipping of the MOST generic merch they've had in years. The forums are STILL locked and unusable because they've decided it's too hard to have them open. Every fucking word out of their mouths on social media feels like it's pointing fingers at participants for being too hard on Nano and not caring enough.
Their social media message about today's website issues really made me see red, ESPECIALLY the third paragraph:
For those of you who aren't hardcore Nano peeps, you maybe don't know about the website update- but in 2017 they held a fundraiser to do a big overhaul of the website, which was dated but still very functional. (Well, the whole having to delete the entire forum every year thing was super janky but like. It still worked.) The fundraiser raised $57,320 to fund a new website. In 2019 they rolled out said website.
And it fucking sucks.
Like, the new Nano website is pretty universally despised. It's laggy, it's not intuitively laid out, and it just kinda generally enshittified something dated but functional in a way that's hard to describe.
And the forums? Hope you enjoy a shittily implemented instance of Discourse! They, too, are somehow far harder to navigate than they were before. I loved hanging out on the Nano forums, but each year they are less and less active, probably because they suck to use! And, maybe this is a small stupid thing, but I hate that it no longer gives you the word count for your comment as you type. It was such a little touch, but seeing my word count go up on my comment was both inspiring (wow! Look at how easily you can write all those words!) and a little shaming (oh wow I really did just write a 500 word comment instead of 500 words of prose.... I should probably go do that....) in a way that was really effective at getting me motivated!
And they have the fucking gall to go "OUR LAST UPDATE WAS IN 2019 AND IT JUST WASN'T GOOD, GEE GUYS YOU CAN JUST LOOK AND SEE THAT OUR TECH IS BAD~" Motherfucker you collectively received $57 grand to redo the website and gave us back crap for it!!!
And so with all that going on plus, ya know, the racism, the child grooming, the bad AI takes, etc etc etc I just am having a hard time getting jazzed about busting out a bunch of words in an ill-advised madcap dash! You can write a shit ton of words at any time of year, but Nanowrimo's sense of community made it feel electric and fun and like an Event. But now I don't have that. I just feel bloopy and frustrated and unmotivated and like this is not even "The beginning of the end" but the limping, sagging middle act of the end that should have been taken out in edits.
SIGH.
I'm gonna go try to write some anime boys fucking now and see if that lifts my spirits....
#state of the liz#nanowrimo#long post#this is rambling but whatever#also look if I didn't drop Nano over the shit that came out last year I'd feel pretty.... hypocritical I guess?#to drop it over having bad takes on AI#(hot take people's responses to AI shit struck me as kind of 'I can excuse racism but I draw the line at animal cruelty' after last year)#I wanted to try to give it a chance to improve#Foolish me!#Maybe it's just cuz I'm on my period so I'm extra gloomy and unmotivated but I'm just. :C

eras of tumblr i could give hour-long Ted Talks about
(only including eras i participated in, not what i’ve lived through second-handedly. these are what i personally remember seeing on my dash, i’m sure there’s plenty i missed. This is an ongoing list/not fixed/subject to future edits.)
2015 gravity falls
the rise of sexyman bill cipher
depravity falls and putting 12 yr old characters in violent guro situations
alex hirsch worship
billdip discourse
the diehard thirst for Gruncle Ford
“i want to fuck that dorito”
2015/16 Black Butler
SebaCiel discourse
Grelle discourse (like, i don’t even know how to elaborate, but if you were there you would remember how people were fighting over her characterization in all different directions. Which is funny because, love her or hate her, she is barely even in the show lol)
The needlessly intense sjw vs anti-sjw/ fiction doesn’t effect reality/ shipping fighting
can’t quantify this, but i swear 80% of the fans were ex-hetalia fans
Black butler 2 being either loved or hated, while book of circus was almost unanimously loved
the Scott Freeman incident...
no one giving a fuck about the female characters
Yana/Jay Michael Tatum worship
2016 Undertale
Sans undertale sexyman rise
the most raw video game soundtrack of all time
papyton
no one agrees how to draw undyne, but we all agree that she’s gay as fuck
(This is a personal anecdote, but i actually made a friend in highschool bc i drew undertale fanart on the board at latin class nd she added to it the next day, i added to it the next day and eventually we met up and it was so adorable)
“get dunked on”
2016-17 hamilton, heathers, great comet, dear evan hansen, be more chill musical theater insanity
rip tumblr user galactibun
The Hamilton craze breathing new life into the 1776 musical fandom
Most bizarre fanfic aus seen on tumblr thus far (hamilton)
The great comet Tony snubs
BMC and DEH blowing up, despite most fans only caring about the characters, totally ignoring the plot.
“Miku binder Thomas Jefferson”
No one giving a fuck about “The Hamilton Mixtape”
Gatekeeping fans who didn’t read war and peace or the ron chernow biography (i don’t think anyone ever gave a shit about the BMC orginal book which is SO FUNNY)
lin manuel miranda worship
real people fanfictions of actors/shipping them (especially hamilton!)
Key Figures include: Lin Manuel Miranda, Ron Chernow, Philipa Soo, Daveed Diggs, Ben Platt, George Salazar, Barette Wilbert Weed, and Mike Faist
2016-2017 the yuri on ice, killing stalking, kaikyu yaoi trifecta
Yaoi take over
The anime fans collective salt over YOI winning anime of the year 2016
Not in this time period, but the Killing Stalking fans despising the ending en mass several years later.
Free! was also huge as the second season concluded not long before, but wasn’t receiving new updated in Realtime like the other three.
honestly? i mostly just remember people drawing some of the most beautiful fan art of the characters and not bothering to follow the plots
2015-2016 steven universe discourse peak craziness
There are no words, looking back this all feels like a fever dream
Insane fan-theories (as in- even for Tumblr, these theories were very out there)
Pink diamond character derailment
“watching steven universe is the opposite of eating pussy”
Gemosonas
fusion = sex???
“it’s over isn’t it” single-handedly inspiring some of the most beautiful fan art to come out of the show; "Stronger than you” def inspired much more fan-creations, but they were nowhere near as good imo
That terrible lily peet video that sent a tidal wave of fandom-fighting
Concrete
Nicki Minaj guest appearance
the porn avalanche predating the 2018 nsfw ban
My OG account got banned >:( (i never posted porn, tried to email support to no avail, I DID NOT DEVERVE THIS YOU NARCS)
50-50 mix of people posting lewd art and people posting links to find them as they migrated to twitter
“Female presenting nipples”
The return of the citrus scale (orange: PG/G, Lime: PG-13, Lemon: R, Grapefruit: X)
“Too Spicy for Tumblr”
Didn’t even stop the porn bots, mostly just screwed over artists and writers
IMO the peak of user v staff animosity
2020 hannibal
The small but loyal anthony hopkins defenders
Some of the most beautiful creative gore art
The moodboard to web-weaving pipeline
People being surprisingly respectful of fans who only watched the show, or who didn’t read Red Dragon/Silence of the Lambs, or where otherwise not invested in the greater overall Hannibal canon.
Manipulate, mansplain, malewife
Key Figures Include: Madds Mikkelson, Hugh Dancy, Anthony Hopkins
november 5, 2020
You just had to be there man, i don’t know what to tell you.
Key Figures include: Donald Trump, Castiel, Dean Winchester, Joe Biden, Vladimir Putin, Nevada, Georgia, Wisconsin and debatably Sherlock season 5
the 2021 coquette girl blogger era
Lana del rey worship
The ungodly amount of softcore porn
Gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss
Glorification of eating disorders, benzos, trailer parks, predatory men, age gap relationships, and so much more!
Teenagers blogging about Russian lit you know they never read
Waifblr
Still not sure to this day how much of this was ironic and how much wasn’t?? Or if any of this was self-aware???
Yes babe you’re so bambi, kate moss, diet coke, wellbutrin, dasha nekrosova, ballet, klonopin, trad cath, fawn, dior, sofia coppela, can you please shut the fuck up now?
key figures include: Lana del Rey, Daisy Randone, Dasha Nekrosova, Nina Sayers, Fiona Apple, Anya Taylor Joy, Sylvia Plath, Kate Moss, Kirsten Dunst (probably so many more, but this is just off the top of my head)
(bonus)
2015/16- My personal earliest memories of really getting into tumblr, and witnessing the tail-end of the Hetalia reign
2016- the end of Homestuck
2016- the epidemic of overwatch porn
2016- Does Jumin Han is gay?
2017- RWBY’s nosedive in quality from season 3 to 4, losing the majority of the fanbase
2018 Boyfriend to Death civil war (Gatobob v ElectricPuke)
2018- Detroit become Human drops and the robot-fucking gatekeeping
2018- the Game of thrones/Endgame joint disaster ending melt down
2019- Sub-par Omens
2020- the Dead by Daylight community rioting when Pyramid Head’s ass got nerfed
2020- Cyberpunk 2077 is released and is torn apart almost instantly. Looking back by my approximations post were made up of- 10% people who were actually playing the games and enjoying themselves, 20% people who were playing the game and WEREN’T having fun, 55% People who never bought/played the game who were making up crazy glitches for clout, 15% hardcore pornography of characters you’d never seen before. (I’m quite salty about this bc I worked at GameStop at this time and had people constantly talking about glitches in casual conversation and I just know most of these bitches were LYING.)
20??- don’t remember the exact dates, but phase 3 marvel was un-escapable at this time
2020/21- Succession blows up
2022 Ghost bc blows up on tiktok, the fandom already sizable on tumblr only goes up from here

[ munday or as i like to call it. thursday. ; ACCEPTING ]
🌸 the blog/s that most inspires me
[ is it a copout to say "all my mutuals"? :°)
bc honestly it's true!! if i find the strenght to keep on writing it's bc my dash is full of people who inspire me, actually -- both IC, when it comes to dash commentaries and prompts, and OOC, with their headcanons and their energy. it's contagious, what can i say!!!! ]
🎹 the worst roleplay trend i ever saw
[ serious answer: not reblogging promos anymore. i love when my friends do of course, but more often than not people don't reblog them anymore, be it by ignoring them or simply liking them. i had people in the past who liked the promo and didn't even follow, not even when i followed them. idk call me old school but i still reblog the promos of non-mutuals i want to rp with to make sure they "see" my blog, and that more people see theirs. this is a much bigger issue in another RPC im in, one that's way bigger, and it was. kinda discouraging ngl
silly answer: you guys didn't live through the IC soup and height discourse the way i did. every single goddamn week someone would start the soup discourse wether it's a drink or not. or start talking about their height and how everyone else was shorter as if it was a dick measuring contest. they were funny the first time but after a while they activated my fight or flight instinct. most of the time fight. TO THIS DAY when i see sb ask if soup is a beverage i log off bc i get so irrationally pissed NMFSDNGM ]
🖼 my favorite types of characters
[ i'm a simple woman. i see a little guy ( gender neutral ) w inferiority complex and mental health issues usually hidden behind aggressiveness, overconfidence or exaggerated kindness, even better if i can shove a bit of god complex and/or older sibiling energy into them? even better if they have a problem with society, their parents or both? they're mine. ]

I’m not an Elriel (Gwynriel here), but I just wanted to say that I really really love your writing and I respect how much work you put into it. As a writer myself, I know that it’s not easy and how exhausting it can be. Self-doubt also messes with you. Your storytelling is so beautiful and comforting. I really appreciate all the work you do, and seeing you get a lot of love and support makes me happy. Seeing any writer and creator get support and love makes me happy. You deserve all the success. I hope you know how much comfort and joy you bring people. Your blog feels very welcoming and safe for all characters and all ships. You’re also an inspiration. I can feel how kind your energy is. It’s very beautiful. Thank you for everything that you do.
I am a Gwynriel, but I do genuinely love Elain (I can relate to her) and I’m excited to see her story, but I don’t think SJM will be able to do it justice. You have surpassed all expectations. You’re truly amazing. Whenever you publish a book of your own I will be buying it. I hope one day I’m as good of a writer as you.
I wanted to share some positivity since this fandom can be toxic and unkind. It’s easy to be nice and respectful to others. We’re all here because we love reading and enjoy fantasy and are attached to these characters. Sending you good energy and all the love. Take care of yourself and drink some tea and eat lots of your favorite snack. Sincerely, a baby witch.🕊️💗
Anon, my sweet little witch 🪄 you are an exceptionally beautiful soul.
Thank you for such positivity. I cringe when the shipwar slips into my dash, it's such recycled fodder. People thrive on negative energy in this fandom, they look to feed on it, it's bizarre and like... worrisome. Anyway I'll be Romeo to your Juliet, let's get married and make them all clutch their pearls.
I am an ardent Elriel in me bones, but you are correct in that this is a safe space for all of our messed up magical faeries and ships! I work outdoors in life threatening situations frequently; I do not have the capacity to look at discourse in my off time lol. I follow very few ACOTAR blogs because they almost all are just... people writing novel length crusades on canon evidence. At this point my eyes bleed. Anyway I'd like to think this hovel is a place where whimsy can flourish or come to draw its last breaths lol. I am so happy to have you here and hope your own writing blooms within!!

Hello, friends! Hope you're all doing well. In fact, I'd like to know what you're all up to so I can reconnect with friends again. What things are you watching/playing/doing now? Any new things in life you'd like to discuss?
Below the cut I'll say what I've been up to!
Just got back from my local con today and while I did spend a lot on game collecting + VA stuff, I'm glad I went. Thankfully I got paid Friday (though that means I'll have to wait to get paid again in 2 weeks) and my financial situation isn't dire. It's kinda like when you go to Disneyland and get caught up in the spectacle of things. Oh yeah, an IRL friend from high school helped me with a lot of the VA stuff since she had a VIP pass & could skip long lines. (On that note FUCK F//UNKO SCALPERS FOR HOGGING LINES AND MAKING ME WAIT 2 HOURS FOR ONE VA AAAAAAAAAA)
Thankfully, no insurance adjuster lady to drive me up the wall this past month at work. A few eh client encounters but overall it's been way more pleasant than it was a few months ago. ...Might still need to figure out vacation time just so I can take a longer break (and maybe find a government job if I'm able to find something so I have guaranteed holidays).
That being said, S//aimon's series is starting to see a spike of discourse and one of the servers I'm in keeps talking about it. It's making me feel bad as a result. Thankfully, none of the people in it are starting the discourse, but they tend to go "getaloadofthisguy" a lot. Along with usual self ship discourse that I see on my dash (that again thankfully neither friends nor I directly participate in), it kinda just drains me.
Seasonal anime I'm watching are Detergent (hopefully one of Shitsui's big scenes will happen next week; they took a break this week), Und//ead Mur//der Far//ce, Hel//ck (though I'm admittedly not really paying attention to this one), Happy Marriage, J J K season 2 (i am not ready for this arc AAAAAAAAA), and Z//om 100. When there isn't a seasonal anime for me to watch at work, there's Sai//ki K (I think watching Bla//ck Lag//oon kinda helped make me more bitter at work, but I'm feeling better now that I'm watching Sai//ki). Oh, I might check out OPLA since I hear it's an actual good adaptation. Aaaand F//ionna and C//ake too! God, I went "kindred spriits" with Simon's episode
Currently I'm playing Se//a of St//ars and I really like how it looks & plays so far! (Of course, I loved Chr//ono Trig//ger, so the gameplay feels right at home). I wooould continue Gh//ost Tri//ck, but I'm at a stealth section and like I expected, I'm looking up a lot of the puzzle solutions online instead of figuring it out for myself. Curse you, time limits!!! (And for Bom//b R//ush, I feel like I need to play with music, but I keep forgetting to bring my wired headphones. Bluetooth is for my phone mainly due to personal preference). I also watched the endings for OT2 and AUGH I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH!!!
Oh, a new manga I found called "Inv//isible Man & his soon to be bride" is cute so far.
someday i will find balam merch. somedaaaay
I might do a separate post showing my current ideas for S/I's/OCs, but hhhh I'm hesitant. Right now I just know for a P3 OC he takes inspiration from "The Stranger"
boy howdy i sure hope bluesky finally makes my account or i can get an invite because i really want tweetor to die. ...though i'd miss posting switch screenshots directly

One of the worst ways for inspire actual solidarity between transfems n transmascs by the way:
Transcript:
"I think perhaps endless pissing contests over which kind of trans person has it worse are very, very useless when we're all getting shoved in the meat grinder right now. Ron DeSantis isn't exactly asking my pronouns before he passes Illegal To Be Trans bills, takes away everyone's HRT, and imprisons trans parents as child abusers. I don't care about your transmisogyny vs transandrophobia discourse right now, tumblr, I'm too worried about the literal goddamn genocide that's brewing in my home state right now, you feel me? Can we all express some fucking solidarity with each other for five fucking seconds? As an intersex person who has experienced transphobia from people mistaking me as a trans woman AND as a trans man, neither of you have systemic privilege over the other, so shut the fuck up and fight the system instead of each other. Thanks."
Telling people to shut up about their problems, not work.
The idea that someone would know how is like be different marginalized group n discrimination because of ocassional being misidentified as of that group
n that makes have authority on "both sides" groups - is laughable
having been mistakenly seen as trans woman while not being one, not even remotely a unique experience n not give inherent insight nor is interchangeable with trans women
transfemicide (derived of feminicidio) has is own category term in activism of feminismo bc of international need of recognizing trans women y transvestis as at-risk of gender-based n partner-based misogynistic violence,
while often lacking support and alternative safety nets on a structural n societal level from their own community or broader lgbt / trans community and government before death - because of often being denied spaces for anti-misogyny n women's safety
which is what often getting criticize when pointing out transmisogyny
n would not be different in Florida, United States - where the laws are specifically codified in hypervigilance against trans women n girls,
(to point that is dangerous people even think someone transfem)
that transmisogyny need be discussed there too, n it not contradict nor prevent from attempts with find safety for trans people in general
n is not on same connotation as a hate group (transandrophobia truthers) in the trans man community that hates women, especially trans women, n blames everything on them
if anything - this just communicate how unsafe are for have that conversation with
anyways, unfollowed someone who put that on dash.
