Like I could do a whole separate rant abt how One Piece as a whole has done that exact same thing but idk… it feels sm more special with Zo <33 And even now, TO THIS DAY, the best escapism method I have rn always ties back to ZoEl… wether it be cooking up new lore, thinking abt their future, thinking abt how the other Straw Hats would tease tf out of them, this ship always puts me in a good mood. PLUS I haven’t even gotten to talk abt all the cool ppl I’ve met because I started to interact with ppl in the community !! this is soooo funny i’m sorry i haven’t posted abt ke in years but i’ll give u the same ted talk i gave some of my mutuals ❤️ also bare with me this is a pretty informal and lazy description and also a day old and i haven’t read over it. in the end tho the main takeaways are capitalism is evil and billionaires should be hunted for sport. oh and also important: most clubs r actually all pulling out now so lmao

so for u to know what’s going on u need like some background knowledge of how football works in europe

in the usa there are the top leagues for the different sports. mls, nba, mlb, nfl, nhl, etc. and the same teams play in those leagues every single year. sometimes u get expansion teams and sometimes teams go under. but it doesn’t work like that with soccer anywhere else in the world

in the rest of the world, each country has its own leagues (domestic league) and it works like a pyramid. for example, in england the top flight is the Premier League and the league below it is the championship and below that is league 1 and then below that is league 2 etc. and this is the same for every country, even the small ones.

another feature of these domestic leagues that is different from the usa is the relegation and promotion system. so if u finish in the bottom 3 of the premier league, u move down to the lower league the next season (relegation) and if you finish in the top of the lower league, u move up a league the next season (promotion). this means that it’s not always the same teams in the same league every year. this stresses out owners cause if your team does bad for a season, you drop a league and you’ll make significantly less money if you drop down a league. but it’s also great cause it means every team has a chance to play in the biggest league if they do well enough, like there’s always the possibility of going up a league, there’s always something to strive for.

aside from domestic football, there’s also a continental tournament that goes on all year for the teams that do the best in their domestic leagues. that’s the champions league. the winner of the champions league each year is basically referred to as the best team in europe. there’s also the europa league which is like the champions league but for the teams that just didn’t quite make the champions league or have dropped out early in the competition (like man united lol). this competition is run by UEFA (the european football governing body).

this isn’t too important but to qualify for the champions league, it depends on your placement in your domestic league the previous season and countries with bigger leagues get more qualifying spots. so the top 4 in the premier league go to the cl but if u finish first in bulgaria, you might still have to go thru a lot of qualifying rounds first before making it to the group stage

so what happened was the owners of 12 of the biggest (not best)  teams in europe (6 from england, 3 from italy, 3 from spain) decided to break away and form their own super league like the leagues for sports in the usa. this is bad for many reasons

so first of all it was fully done with the idea of making more profit. none of the staff or fans of any of the clubs were consulted on it before, and it was rlly secretive it was just the billionaire owners who decided on it

it would make them more money cause sponsorships would go up, and they wouldn’t be threatened with relegation, and it’d be a “big match” every match

originally the teams said they would continue to play in the domestic leagues but there was so much backlash that the 12 teams r banned from playing in their domestic leagues, uefa banned them from the champions league, and fifa banned the players playing in it from representing their national team. so players couldn’t play in world cups

also this means that other teams in the domestic leagues couldn’t have the chance to play in the biggest league no matter how well they do. it was always if u do well domestically, you have the option to play in the champions league in europe and against the best teams and that can’t happen anymore
