idk like on some level. sure. mutual hate on a thing can be fun. there's plenty of stuff I poke fun at with my friends - but that's to ourselves, typically in private conversations where fans of such things won't see em, and I've gone out of my way in the near decade (maybe over at this point? eugh) of my fandom of this show to kinda be aware of any of my more negative posts, not tagging them or at least not spamming them

yet with ml there seems to be this constant effort from some to go out of their way to remind you "Erm, but the show is bad??" and it's like. ok. that's how ya feel, whatever, totally fine to think that way, but then they keep going, they go to every post they see - fanart, fic, casual shitposts, anywhere ppl are having fun, anything that doesn't also say the show is bad, and remind you that they think it's bad. they run 6 salt blogs dedicated to characters they've hated for near half a decade from a show they've maybe hated for even longer and sometimes haven't even seen the last few seasons of, all to continue to spout this constant stream of "Show....bad" negativity with no further goal than to, seemingly, try and ruin it for someone else, and to me that sorta thing is just like. what are we doing here man. what the fuck are you

be critical of the show, that's totally fine! I don't love every aspect of it, I'm sure even the biggest bugheads would have something to point out as a flaw or issue they have with it. but this seemingly endless wave of ppl going on and on about how bad they think the show is, how they carry that as if it's objective fact, how they believe everyone in the cast except Marinette or Adrien (or even sometimes like, I dunno, Lila) should be thrown in a meat grinder and make sure that you know they believe such a thing, repeating it so many times as if they want you to believe it, too, and it's just like. why? what's so wrong about others enjoying a silly lil cartoon show?

and ultimately to me it's just like. fuckin' buzz off lmao. I don't give a flying fuck what anyone else thinks of the show - my taste in media and my feelings toward the media I consume are the objectively correct ones, after all!

Okay, watched this video like a week ago and I'm still thinking about it everyday so bare with me as I get this out of my system

Okay, Denki doing electrician type shit on the side

It all starts with something like this, he goes to a little old lady's house and is like "Okay, this bitches house is gonna fucking EXPLODE" and convinces Kamui Woods (I've decided that he's definitely the guy Kami interned from, it just makes sense) to let him rewire this woman's house instead of the regularly scheduled hero work for an internship, it takes some convincing but Kaminari makes a strong argument about how he's keeping this woman's house from blowing up which is pretty damn heroic and if he doesn't do this they'll just have to save a bunch of people from her house explosion later on so really he's doing her, her neighbors, the other heroes, and the city a service here

So, Denki is allowed to detour from regular hero work to completely rewire her whole house because damn did her nephew not know what the FUCK he was doing

Of course, Kamui Woods is supervising and helping (mostly just handing him stuff or holding stuff or standing in the way because he doesn't know anywhere near the amount that Denki apparently just...knows) him the whole time, watching in awe as he finds out this kid can do this kind of thing (How do people think this kid is stupid??? Everyone's been telling him he got the dumb one but clearly this kid is a genius because FUCKING LOOK AT HIM)

At the end, Denki refuses to let the old lady pay him as it was "just what a hero does" and "not that big a deal" so he's paid in homemade sweets

When Kamui tries to congratulate him on a job well done, Denki insists that it "wasn't that hard, seriously it was easy, I don't see what the big deal is"

And when his interning is all finished, this seeps into his work as a pro hero

When he sees someone less fortunate and in need of some rewiring, no matter how big (as long as he can spare the time, being a pro hero is a pretty busy job) he just...does it. Pro bono.

Which completely incidentally rockets him up in the ranks due to the public opinion of his charitability, and the best part? He doesn't see it as charity. In fact, he likes to think of it as some sort of "pre-heroing" (something he had called it to Kamui Woods all that time ago), he saves them before the disaster happens, no need to congratulate him! He's just doing what any good hero would do! Well, okay, you can congratulate him a *little*, but only if you really want to...

And all the snotty not in it for the right reasons heros (Endeavor Dupes, if you will) HATE him for it, making them look bad??? Raising the bar? Making them need to actually be charitible more than once a year for the sake of their PR? But they hate all the 1A kids anyways, so who really cares. They probably would have hated him anyways.

Blade: I would say its either quality time or physical touch.

We all know Blade doesn't talk too much, neither does he know how to express his feelings well.

So, in my opinion, he enjoys spending time alone with you. No need to talk or something, he just wants to have your presence next to him.

Physical touch is more by the fact that when you two get REALLY close, he becomes more touch-starved. This man is in dire need of comfort in his life and I feel he would seek that by constantly having his hand touching you.

Gepard: (there was a war happening in my head to decide this one) Quality time, words of affirmation or acts of service.

Can we consider this man a malewife or he's still babygirl? (LMFOAOAOAO)

Gepard doesn't have much time to spend idly in his life, having to constantly deal with possible threats, guarding, or training recruits takes a lot of time and energy. So I feel like quality time and physical touch would go together for when he's finally free to spend time with you.

He finally has some time to spend with you and Gepard is not going to waste it. That man is following you around like a lost cat. He just wants to be around you for as long as he can.

While being rather shy, I think Gepard would like to constantly be touching you. Either be simple hand-holding or cuddling.

This man likes to help you around the house, helping you clean, cook, etc. Gepard wants to show you that he cares and is here to help you either inside with mundane things or outside by protecting you.

This poor guy has been through way too much recently, please just let him stay near you for an undisclosed amount of time. and i feel like gepard is definitely a malewife and a babygirl, he can only be both. i personally feel quality time is probably his biggest mainly because while he does do acts of service, he feels it's too much like his work and fears you'd only see that as him doing his duty as captain and not yout lover. words of affirmation are the same.

gallagher - similarly i feel gallagher would be like gepard in that sense. he is one hundred percent quality time as his job as security under the bloodhound family gives him very little time to be with you. and while he definitely gives you gifts often, he sometimes feels as though he's only doing it out of obligation and not genuine affection and so when he does give you gifts he makes sure you know how much he cares about you. he's also a classic romantic.

luocha - i feel he would only be quality time if you didn't travel with him. but otherwise he would be acts of service or maybe physical touch. travelling with him would mean he'd always keep an eye out for you and ensure your comfort and safety and so if you ever wanted to do something anywhere he'd make it happen. physical touch would be minimum but it's still something he'd want, and im mainly talking about how he'd just want to hold your hand. like constantly. he'd need that reassurance that your safe.

aventurine - i'd have to say he's physical touch and words of affirmation, perhaps quality time but i'd mainly go with the previous two. physical touch mainly because he needs it, after he's finally found someone he can trust and be himself around, he needs that reassurance that your here. that your real and in his arms, someone who can love him. which would also be where words of affirmation would come in, i would say he'd very much need it to be both ways. after all the struggles and hardships he's been through he needs those words of reassurance and a part of him would want to ensure you also have that same happiness in knowing how much he appreciates you.

william afton x gn reader - stuck in a lift

smut, kinda risky public stuff and very forward behaviour below the cut.

You gather all your stuff from the poolside and shoving a jacket on over your swimming costume, you head back inside the hotel, through reception and towards one of the lifts, slightly dripping and eager to get to your room. Struggling with your bag a quick glance at the two lifts shows one to be at floor 7 and the other with a bloke inside looking down. A wave of annoyance takes over when you realise that you're too far to make it and were now going to have to wait for the other one.

Just as you're deciding whether to properly throw in the towel and half your pace, the bloke thankfully glances up and, seeing your intention, holds the door.

You smile at him, doing an awkward jog to try and reduce how long he needed to hold it for. He steps back as you get in, trying not to be too obvious with how he looked you up and down.

"Thank you. Would have been here all day waiting for the other one." you smiled, a little taken aback at how tall this man was, from across reception he didn't look anywhere near this imposing.

"You're alright." He matched your smile, taking note of your clothing, or lack thereof. Such a daring decision to come back inside with nothing but a small jacket over your swimwear. Maybe not so much daring, but trusting, must've not occurred to you how your nipples were visibly hard through the thin fabric.

The man's polite smile became more of a grin as you pressed your floor button, "You didn't have to run you know, love. I'd have held it for a bit longer."

"It felt like the polite thing to do."

The two of you fall silent, nothing else to be said really, but you peeked at him out of the corner of your eye, heat rising to your cheeks when you caught his gaze. Not wanting to do so again, you focus on the little screen with the floor numbers increasing gradually. It felt slower than normal, your floor being all the way at 8 and his 11, and you find yourself itching to take your phone out, quickly realising you'd left it in your room, out of nowhere the lift jolts with enough force to launch you forward.

A harsh screech ended the slow rumble of the lift as it came to a complete standstill. "Fuck..." you say, voice pinched with panic, before turning to the man beside you. Asking, "What the fuck?"

He raises his hands, "Don't look at me." He leans forward and unenthusiastically presses a button and when no light comes on, he chuckles. "I think we're stuck, sweetheart. It isn't working." You must have a face on because again he raises his hands, smirking.

"What do you mean? It can't be-" Not taking his word you do the same yourself, getting the same reaction from the panel. "Shit, well, isn't there a call button or a phone or something?"

He laughs, "I know as much as you..." He looks again at the panel, shaking his head, "No, but they're bound to notice soon enough."

You scoff, "What about the doors - surely we can-"

"God, you want a wine menu too, while I'm at it?" he asks sarcastically, sticking his slender fingers between the doors and prying it open slightly, it was enough to see nothing but concrete behind it. It frightened you a bit that he was even able to do that, the muscles on his biceps very visible through his shirt adding to his intimidation factor.

"Looks like we might as well get to know each other, might be here for a long while." He turned to you, speaking flirtatiously, a smirk carved into his handsome face.

You shake your head, "Yeah... that's a shame, cos I bet your wife is waiting for you." you reply with half a laugh, a little in disbelief, gesturing to the ring on his finger.

The man leaned against the wall of the lift, chuckling again, "That's quite an assumption. For all you know, I could be a widower."

"Maybe a widower wouldn't smirk whilst saying that."

"Now really that depends on the deceased." You couldn't help but crack a grin at that. You have to admit it. This guy is attractive. A little creepy and presumptuous as all hell, but that didn't take away from his features. This morning, the idea of being trapped in a lift with a man who made his intentions this clear would have frightened you, but right now, it made a guilty feeling spread in between your legs.

"I suppose you're right. What's your name then?" you ask, giving in a little.

"William, sweetheart."

"Not Will?"

"Now, you'd have to get to know me better for that." He made a point of eyeing you up as he spoke, making your stomach tight, which only doubled when he asks, "Is your name as pretty as the rest of you?"

You find yourself, smiling involuntarily. It wasn't an original line but something about this man would have turned you on if he was reciting Ikea instructions. When you tell him your name, he tries it out loud, liking the taste of it, it was just as lovely as the rest of you.

After some small talk you realise that you'd been in this lift for close to twenty minutes, at this point becoming more and more tempted by this William fella, partially due to the boredom.

You lay your head back against the wall, "I can't fucking believe there isn't there a phone on this lift."

"Well it does appear to be from the 70s."

Unable to help yourself you smirk, "Like you then?"

"I'm flattered." he laughed. "They'll have noticed by now and called the company."

Looking down at the small gap between the two of you, you could see the outline of his erection and a pang of horniness causes you to visibly flinch.

This wouldn't be a good idea. What if the lift started working again, you'd have seconds to separate and make yourself presentable? Or what if there was a camera in here you couldn't see? But you were tempted.

"We don't have to do much, just let me touch you." Whilst speaking he places his hand on your hip and yeah... you're down. You reach forward and hook round the back of his neck, pulling him down to your height so you can kiss him. With your approval he wastes no time, dragging his hand up your torso and pinching your nipple between his knuckles, his other hand snaking low on your hip.

You know how stupid this is, but to be honest that only makes it better. Pulling at the bottom of his shirt, you let his hands rake all over you, adding to that pit of anticipation in your stomach. It's then as you're letting him wrap your leg around his waist that the lift jolts again, groaning back to life. You jump from him like you are physically repelled and he just laughs, making no effort to disguise how dishevelled he'd become.

You do though, pulling your clothing back into place and smoothing your hair down, just in time for the doors to open on your floor.

You step off, glad to be free, and he does as well, leaning over your shoulder to say, "Relax, sweetheart, I'm not following you. Just don't want to chance making it to my floor."

See when everyone described what happened to her as a car accident first of all I assumed she was in a car that crashed, then maybe that a car had hit her and knocked her off her bike. I did not have 'deliberately mown down by a serial killer' anywhere near my radar. That is in no way an accident. And it's not like no one knows because it happened right in front of Sunjae.

I have no idea what's triggering the time jumps. The first time was right after Sunjae died. Which, fair enough, she travelled back to save him. Then when Taesung asked her out she travelled back to 2023. She travelled back to 2009 when Inhyuk told her Sunjae had wanted to apologise to her for something and now she's prevented herself from being hit by a car she's ended up in ???? Joseon era???

I'm just trying to figure out if there's a pattern or something specific that triggers it.

Sooooo idek where to begin with this. I'll start by saying that yes I contacted Rebornica/Bones/Voltergeist and bought two of their old FNAF au designs. Those being Scott/Phone Guy and Jeremy. Before I get into anything I feel like I'm obligated to address Volt's past and let it be known that I do not Care about a mentally ill teenager faking other disorders or aggressively yelling at people to stop copying them or whatever other overdramatic thing they did like a decade ago and I don't think buying from them is anywhere near comparable to "supporting problematic people" compared other designers who are like homophobic or whatever the fuck else, and I'm not here to talk about or argue about "the ethics" of me giving Volt money. So jot that down before you even start typing.

I'm here to ask if anyone here has drawn art of Scott/Phone Guy and Jeremy so that i may save it and add it to their toyhouse galleries. You'll see they both currently have like 100 pieces in their galleries right now but I know that's not even scratching the surface. Theres just so much of it It's overwhelming to look for. Theres also issues of these designs being so popular to the point of people making their Own personal redesigns of them. And it starts to muddy up which art belongs to me or not. This isnt toooo much of a big deal with Jeremy as the giant "?" on his face makes him pretty distinct and easily recognizable as The Guy That I Own. But this becomes a problem with Phone Guy specifically. He is... pretty much The design that everyone draws him as regardless of if they intend for it to be Rebornica fanart or not. People use this design in their own AUs, people use this design as their own OC. Theres so so so so so much art of people labeling their art as "heres my phone guy design!" and its just the Rebornica design. And I don't feel comfortable or really have the heart to save anything that people consider to be theirs even if its literally the design that I own x__x It's just a bit hard when you own a design that is considered canon enough to a real video game to the point where people just. Take him. and there's nothing I can do about that. And it's not something that upsets me tbh because I knew this was an issue when I Bought him. Literally all I want to know is what art I can or can't save and upload to their archives lmao. So I figured asking people to send me their art directly would help reduce the chance of me just taking someone else's art that they didn't intend to be My phone guy. Not even counting the fact that a popular FNAF fan game called Dayshift At Freddy's has their own version of phone guy that ALSO had the red rotary phone head but wears a black business suit. The way that im approaching the "father's love" thing is just that like. Lots of people with abusive parents have a really complicated relationship with them bc, unless they're cartoonishly evil, there are probably SOME positive memories associated with that parent. Since the fall is more of a fresh wound in NB, Lucifer probably hasn't processed his emotions around it so he's still trying to navigate his contradictory feelings towards his father. (Thus, he's a lot easier to manipulate in that way. From Father's pov, it's in his best interest for Lucifer to not hate him since he's in a more powerful position than expected, so I think he set this up while intending from the beginning to "rescue" him.)

Do I think that's what the devs had in mind? No. But it's the story I'm telling myself lmao

Ah, anon, you're right, I keep forgetting how recent the fall is in NB. Lucifer hasn't had a lot of time to deal with how he really feels. And he likely does have some lingering love for Father... and that would make it easier for him to forgive Father now, most likely.

Certainly the devs never have this level of nuance in mind. I don't think the writers put in anywhere near as much thought as we do when it comes to this kind of thing. It could very well just have been oh wouldn't it be cool if Lucifer transformed into an angel at this part? Sometimes they just get on my nerves with their nonsense lol.

Anyway, it does help to think about it in the context of Lucifer's recent move away from his Father. I suspect it's hardest at the beginning, when you haven't been separated from that abuse for very long. Then to have them come around and be like I forgive you? Yeah, okay. I can see why Lucifer might be willing to accept that.

Though I think it's interesting because Lucifer wasn't like okay yeah I'm ready to go back. He's still saying the Devildom is home. So Father didn't succeed if he's expecting Lucifer to come back on his own.

So maybe Father was tapping into those fond memories of Lucifer's, but it still wasn't enough.

I kinda like that, actually. Lucifer's still recovering, he's allowed to be a weirdo about Father's love for a bit, I suppose. Though I don't think I personally would be able to hear him say stuff like that and just let it go. I'd be like listen, I understand that you're going through it right now, but are you sure that's how you should be feeling about all of this?

Lucifer frustrates me because he always seems to be so convinced that his way is the right way. And I want him to consider that perhaps he's wrong, at least about this.

with all the love and respect to my destiel-loving moots, peace and love and no hate and im genuinely glad ur all having a good time, this is by no means intended a personal attack. we are all friends here!! however, u may wish to avert your eyes because i'm afraid i am about to slander your man with extreme prejudice

basically it all boils down to the fact that i cannot stand castiel and i feel that his appearance in the show was the initial catalyst in its departure from the themes and plotlines that i personally find compelling as a viewer

i LOVE early supernatural. for me, supernatural was at its best when it focused on the smaller-scale monster of the week and when the aim was saving one or two people, when the threats were contained and it was focused on the two brothers and the road trip and what are we gonna hunt down and kill this week? when things became more grandiose and theological and there's a holy war and angels and the end of the world is nigh... that stuff just doesn't interest me anywhere near as much as just the everyday minutiae of saving people, hunting things... the family business... all that stuff. and i know there were always hints of Something Bigger, a Grand Purpose for Sam in particular, but it was still relatively contained and not the main focus.

i feel that cas showing up signifies this huge tonal shift and the show becoming something that i do not enjoy anywhere near as much as i enjoyed the early seasons. the angels, and god, and the apocalypse, and every single season we're facing the end of the world... and bear in mind that i have never made it past season 8 and by that point i was passively staring at the screen rather than watching, and that i have never consciously paid attention past s6, so im sure im missing out on many years of character development for castiel, but from the parts of the show i've seen, the guy has all the personality of a plank of wood. i don't find him funny. his deadpan delivery and lack of emotion, while obviously intentional and reflective of his character, do nothing for me. every time he's on screen, he pisses me off. on the rare occasions i watch past season 3, every time he's on the screen (assuming i am alone lmao) i am shouting "FUCK OFF!!" i can't even expressly put my finger on what it is i loathe about this character, but to me, he's about as fun and compelling as a piece of wet bread.

and yet people LOVE HIM?? everyone bigs up destiel, so on my first watch i RACED through the first 3 seasons to get to his first appearance and then realized with slowly dawning horror that i have been hoodwinked! bamboozled! maligned! i was led to believe that this man was the highlight of the show. everyone---THIS IS YOUR MAN?? I HATE HIM!! AND THE FACT THAT PEOPLE GO SO HARD FOR HIM MAKES ME HATE HIM EVEN MORE!!

ULO user here! I recently went back and found several old comments I'd made on LO while I was a huge fan of it in 2019.. so embarassing looking back lol. You mentioned that you used to send a bunch of "fangirl" messages back in the day- would love to see your old thoughts/opinions back when you loved LO to compare as a fun(if a bit melancholic) journey, if you'd be willing to share a few? Your thoughts/analysis are always amazing, but I'm super curious as to how you felt back before you realized what a shitshow it was

Haha yeah, I was a fangirl in the sense of like... always being on time for new updates, even if I was out doing other things, messaging my real life friend who got me into the comic to talk about it. Back then Saturday was the height of my week, sometimes the cliffhangers would get me so excited I'd spend the entire week thinking about what could happen next. I suppose I do still look forward to Saturdays now, but for much different reasons.

It's a lil' shameful looking back but I did used to be one of those "don't like it don't read it" dickheads LOL I also used to "not see the issue" with the age gap thing, not because I was okay with age gaps, but as someone who tends to write about immortal beings, I followed the same line of thinking that "they're gods, it shouldn't matter", until I realize just how silly it was that if that were the case, the comic wouldn't be constantly calling out the age difference and drawing Persephone to look as young as possible. I had to really sit on LO for a long time before I started seeing the issues with it. Ironically what opened my eyes to it was lurking in the #antiloreolympus hashtag every now and then, I'd be reading the opinions like "these opinions suck! they don't get it! they're just being nitpicky/mean/etc.!" and yet I duped myself by doing just that because it exposed me to other points of view which became more and more relevant as the comic declined in quality. I think it was around the trial arc that I started to notice the holes (one of the big tells for me that maaaybe LO didn't know what it was doing was when Persephone chose Hades to be her lawyer despite him being one of the judges and someone she was romantically involved with, like hello?) and then when the series returned from its mid-season hiatus and skipped right over Persephone's time in the Mortal Realm, that was when I realized the criticisms weren't coming from nowhere and I got off the high horse and started to read their points with more of an open mind.

Of course, I can safely say I wasn't as shitty as some of the stans can be, most of my opinions were just in the weekly discussion threads in the LO sub, but I was still giving my opinions on LO as if it was a Canvas comic, failing to recognize that 1.) just because webcomics are a budding industry doesn't mean they should be exempt from criticism, and 2.) LO isn't anywhere near the same level as Canvas, it's a #1 NYT best selling book with a creator who's won awards, so it absolutely should be subject to criticism and analyzing as LO is representing that same budding industry in a lot of ways.

oh beth & caroline would've been REALLY close to filing for divorce. with cara being a tattoo artist, she would've been completely out of work and beth would've been working from home (she's a children's therapist) but there are no extra rooms in the house to use as an office, so she would've had to either use the computer in the living room/dining room/kitchen which would be a major privacy issue, or set it up in their bedroom which is super small. they were already having relationship issues at that time, but being trapped in such close quarters..... they would be at each other's throats... and they wouldn't even be able to have crazy makeup sex (the only tried and true solution to their problems fjksjd) because asa is in the next room doing virtual school 😭 btw asa definitely started making bread from scratch and promised himself he would keep doing it after life went back to normal (he did not).

stevie would still be working. KD would have let her stay home, but stevie would be desperate to get out of the house (oh my god her parents would be insufferable) and not be lonely anymore. you know that tiktok that's like "you think you can hurt my feelings but it was my job to enforce the cracker barrel mask mandate as a 17 yo butch lesbian" literally that but "it was my job to enforce the mask mandate for rural american truck drivers as a 16 yo trans girl" 🫡

elaine and jada are lucky because their bedroom windows face each other, so they could technically see each other. elaine would've fallen down the skincare rabbit-hole and completely ruined her skin in a matter of months (me too girl...... happened to the best of us) and jada would've had time to make tons of art, but she would have extreme art block and spend most of her time just laying in bed being anxious (again. me too girl.)

i guess casper would still be in high school, and sadie was still just a toddler. danny had already been working from home for years, so it would be nothing new for him

mikaela is a pediatric nurse at a hospital, so i don't really want to go into detail about how emotionally damaging that time must've been :( she would be working nonstop and i think she wouldn't even want to go home afterwards for fear of transferring germs. she might have stayed in a hotel during the peak of things

i'm gonna be honest i think 2020 would've been the worst year of coco's life because her boyfriend had cancer and was going through chemo, so obviously she could not be anywhere near him unless she was willing to be 100% quarantined with him, which she couldn't do because she needed to work. she had people counting on her. and she had.... a lot of other stuff going on too, some of which would've been affected by a pandemic but i can't really go into detail about that

and finally i have to state the obvious -- people died, no matter how careful they or their families were, and sometimes it didn't even matter how healthy they were before covid hit. i had family members who were immunocompromised get covid and i thought they wouldn't survive but they did, while other people in my life were only in their 40s/50s and healthy but they didn't survive. so in my mind, there's no point trying to guess how my characters would fare, and also it just feels icky in general. but it felt weirder to not acknowledge this at all, so. here's this ramble.

i also want to send love to anyone who continues to be affected by covid in a world that wants you to believe it's "over", whether that be from long covid, grief, being immunocompromised yourself, etc. i see you ♥

heyy I love your blog and love that you're reconnecting. I wasn't gonna say anything, but as the posts keep coming, I have to point out that despite everything, rolls and records just aren't the end all be all for indigenous ancestry. while I understand why folks (espeeeecially cherokees) would be extra protective of their identity, tribal enrollment, etc... this particular requirement can easily erase afro-indigenous histories.

my grandparents pointed out which relatives on our family tree were native, likely mixed. (I'll spare you the details, lol. but I was suspect for a long time, and your posts had me looking much harder!) while I can't find a direct ancestor in the Dawes Rolls, I'm seeing folks who seem to be relatives. there's substantial overlap on a rather uncommon surname linked to the slavers who owned and later held my family in indentured servitude (sharecropping) for 5+ generations in eastern Tennessee. The highest density of this surname (outside of Barbados!) is found in Oklahoma today, where I also have relatives.

records of my kin are generally spotty (a good # just with first names) and nonexistent before around 1850 because they were considered property until 1865, and so not recorded in the census.

what *is* recorded in the first records is that all of my relatives were illiterate up until 3 generations ago. this rules out the ability to apply remotely. and while there was an option for Dawes applications to be taken in person / recorded orally, the one drop rule (plus the promise of land allotment to those accepted) was something that I can't imagine visibly black and indigenous people were able to get past. recognizing afro-indigenous folks would have meant an upheaval in law, and in the colonial hierarchy of who has the right to what.

I don't live anywhere near the OG lands and my family did little more than attend a few powwows growing up... but I do read up on Cherokee culture and language, and don't feel any need to be enrolled or given access to Cherokee resources, etc... I'm content to appreciate from afar & online, and uplift native stories & issues when I can until a natural connection arises. I don't have a lot of time to do so, but I'm continuing the search for proof outside of my grandparents' physical features and stories.

I also have relatives who were Freedmen, and though I want solidarity for all people, cannot ignore the anti-black sentiments Cherokee bureaucracy and unfortunately a looott of modern native culture has displayed in barring and diminishing afro-indigenous membership and ancestry.

I am at peace with the fact that I may never find a paper trail, which though hard-won, is also a privilege largely afforded to folks with white/native heritage, and I think that should be acknowledged.

Yea, very true! There's definitely a lot of anti-black racism and of course slavery in Cherokee history [and still some today] and this stuff really does need to be said. Iirc, many people recorded as freedmen were likely mixed afro-indigenous but were just recorded as freedmen. I'm not as experienced with freedmen and afro-indigenous history admittedly, and that's definitely a glaring gap that I need to work on filling.
