Something Ardbert has noticed, in the few hours they get to spend together whenever Icarus is blessed with downtime, is that the warrior of light has a particularly bad habit of staring. 

He can feel that very stare digging into the back of his head as he appraises Icarus’ weapon collection. It’s impressive, and unexpected. Over the short time that he has been on the First, Icarus has only ever used black magics to defend himself, yet he had Feo Ul bring an amalgam of different weapons to the First the moment it had been possible. 

You have to be prepared, Icarus had told him.

“I didn’t know you could wield the ax,” Ardbert says, turning to meet that incessant gaze head on. “You don’t strike me as the martial type.” 

“I am not,” Icarus responds. He doesn’t look away from Ardbert’s face, even after being caught staring. “I’m sure you wield yours much better than I do, loathe as I am to admit it.” He pauses, and Ardbert pointedly ignores the heat that spreads through his chest at Icarus’ praise. “I wield it using telekinesis, much like the Nouliths over there.” 

He jerks his chin in the direction of four strange looking artifacts. Ardbert turns, grateful to have something else than the viera’s delicate features to focus on for a while. 

“What are those used for?”

“Healing. And hurting.” 

“I can’t- I don’t understand how you can possibly-” 

Before Ardbert can complete his sentence, the weapons lift from their perch. He has to repress the urge to reach for his own when they zip over to him, coming to a stop right before his face. Then, gently, they begin to circle him. The perfect harmony with which they move is akin to watching the dancers in the markets, and Ardbert finds himself mesmerized. 

After a while of spinning around him, they group together again, before shifting away. Ardbert follows them, only to come face to face with Icarus - now standing much closer to him than he was before. 

The nouliths quietly come to a rest behind Icarus’ back. 

“Like that,” Icarus says, smiling down at him. 

“That didn’t explain anything.” If Ardbert sounds a little breathless, Icarus makes no mention of it. He’s looking down at Ardbert again with that same look he gave Emet-Selch during his impromptu visit to the Ocular. 

“You’re staring.” 

Icarus merely hums in response. “I just feel,” he says, “like you’re- like I could just-” 

He trails off, reaching forward. Ardbert watches Icarus’ hand with mounting dread. He’s not sure what it would feel like to have Icarus’ fingers phase right through him, but the feeling of first discovering that he was like this comes rushing back, a coiled lump of despair lodging itself in his throat. 

Fighting the urge to close his eyes, he remains stock still, even as Icarus gently, oh so gently, places his hand against his chest. 

Pressure. 

Despite its current state, his body registers when Icarus’ hand makes contact with his breastplate. Ardbert jerks back, the place where Icarus’ hand had touched burning like molten rock. 

“What-”

“I knew it.” 

“Huh?”

Icarus shrugs, looking down at his hands. “Not once did you seem incomplete to me. I thought if I focused enough aether into my hands I could-” 

Ardbert reaches forward, wrapping his hands around Icarus’ fingers. He can feel them – not the heat of him, he still can’t smell Icarus, he still can’t feel Icarus’ breath despite their proximity, but he feels the distinct pressure of touching something. Someone.

“I- I can’t believe- you- it's really happening- it’s been so long,” he’s babbling, and if he could cry he’s sure that the tears would have spilled by now, but as it is he simply stares at their conjoined hands in awe. 

“Well,” Icarus says softly, “at least now you know you can touch me. If you ever need to.”

the girls playing dnd because I also play it!

disposable: very new to the game, has only played in one or two campaigns so far. she likes using classes with high charisma (warlocks, bards) and plays as elves, tieflings, genasi and the like to feel a bit prettier i guess(?). she likes playing as chaotic good.

irreverent: shes obsessed with meta tbh. her characters are absolutely BROKEN; she often plays wizards, druids or blood hunters (I would like to play one of those someday...it looks fun...)

Her favourite races to play as are warforged and anything from the feywild (elves, fairies, satyrs and the like. She also likes dragonborns and kobolds.)

Co often DMs, and Co loves to put puzzles in her dungeons...much to the party's dismay.

splitter: girlie only makes joke characters only to then give them the most horrifying lore. she enjoys playing as bards and rogues, mainly, but she has also liked warlocks. she picks any race that looks good as an anime girl, but like. chaotic. (she likes tieflings and goblins a lot.) she plays as chaotic neutral or evil mostly. when she's the DM, you know the story will get fucked up.

faineant: certified warforged player!!! she also likes gnomes and orcs. sometimes she'll pull up with the most obscure homebrew race and an even more obscure homebrew class. she spends HOURS looking at the dnd wiki. as a DM, she's pretty good too, most of her stories are in a steampunk-ish setting, or science fiction, and they get very silly. (legends of avantris level silly)

caliber: barely makes it to dnd sessions due to work. her character is probably some sort of cleric or articifier because she likes the versatility of the class and the magic stuff. (and the gun theme has to be somewhere.) in regards of races she usually picks changelings or shifters. she also likes playing as druids. her alignment is chaotic good. she does it mostly for escapism from work; and also, she's an excellent DM.

chocolate box: LOVES silly little guy races; kenku, tieflings, kobolds, halflings, dragonborns or harengorns (rabbit people.) He WILL play barbarians, paladnins or bards, and Only that. she's just starting out, but she'd love to make her own campaign someday.

taxidermy: animal classes enjoyer. she played as bugbears, satyrs, harengorns, tabaxis, owlins, dragonborns, the monkey people race I played as once, you name it. she plays "chaotic neutral" which ends up fading into chaotic good. she likes to try a new class each campaign, and often subclasses. she likes druids, sorcerers and wizards the most.

chemical: just got into playing, as a recommendation by splitter girl (I hc they're friends). she's a bit indecisive on what to play as, but she chose a fighter dragonborn and plays as true neutral. her stats suck a little bit because she's new but she's trying her best.

Anyway OK listen. Listen to me okay Bg3 refers to baldurs gate 3 and for all you need to know it's a dnd video game where the characters get infected with literal brain worms which should have turned them into murderous cultists, but somehow they got spared that fate, and come together to get rid of their brain worms

The party is made of

Grian: a gnome druid whose preferred wild shape is a bird and who might have some hidden aasimar origins because Grian HAS to be God's favorite princess all the time

Scar: an elf ranger who was torn away from his family when he was kidnapped by illithids, and whose closest bro Cub (a warlock who's made a pact with archfaes) was also infected but sadly was turned into a cultist. Scar is desperately looking for him.

Scott: a tiefling bard/sorcerer who does most of the group's talking with npcs both due to his travels making him the more knowledgeable of the group about the region but also because as a bard you can do wild shit like just convince really powerful entities to just kill themselves for fun and that's a very Scott thing to do

Mumbo: a half drow artificer who tbh is the most normal of the group (as far as everyone knows anyway)

Jimmy: half aarakocra (bird :D) vampire cringefail rogue who. Well yeah he's a stand in for astarion me and my friend just wanted a cringefail vampire with negative charisma ok

Joel: A half elf barbarian who has a little secret. The secret is that he's a murderous bastard. But like in the most literal sense of the word

Joel's role specifically has me so mentally ill. Okay. So like. You need a teensy bit of lore for this ok and this will include spoilers for baldy gate 3 if the 2.5 people who read this far intend to play the viddy game well stop reading but still kiss me on the mouth.

So the Lore has many gods and the gods are just real tangible all powerful beings. Much like with Greek mythos, you following a specific god isn't because you only believe in that God, but because you're most devoted to them. Well that's how I see it anyway. And there are three gods associated with death and evil (it's more complicated than that in my hc but we don't have time). One of them is Bhaal. And Bhaal, get this, is the most metal fucking fictional god I've seen because he's the god of MURDER.

Something something he had to give birth to people called Bhaalspawn for some reason who are his direct children and carry a piece of him within them or something (Bg/dnd superfans don't come at me) and it's all part of his grand plan to take over the world. WHATEVER

But Joel IS a bhaalspawn. And he was Bhaal's specialest most favorite bhaalspawn. And now, okay, the thing about bhaalspawns is that they're not actually inherently evil, but they do carry that part of Bhaal within them - his will, and his potential for power. Some Bhaalspawn are raised specifically to be daddy's best little murderers and of course that's how Joel was brought up.

He was examplary because he was trained to be. He was capable of some of the most rancid bloodshed because it was what he was taught, and rewarded for. He was created to be murder incarnate, so any other emotions (love, empathy, etc) were shunned until Joel was either incapable of it, or refused to show it.

Except something happened. He got betrayed, usurped, and infected with the aforementioned brainworms which led to his memory loss. What did remain, even as he escaped the ship keeping him captive, even as he joined up with other infected survivors, was... A primal need. Like it was coded in his DNA, like it was in his blood itself: he had a need to kill. Not just kill, but spread misery, spread pain, and acquire power at any cost. He mostly unleashes those urges onto his enemies, but it never feels like enough. Like a scratch he can't quite itch. Of course, that's all Bhaal trying to reel him back in, Bhaal trying to reclaim him.

But like clockwork - because such ingrained training doesn't go away no matter how much one thinks they forgot - he finds himself relishing in it. In the violence of it all. The only time he feels truly alive is when he's covered in blood and gut.

... That is, until he finds himself growing closer and closer to Jimmy. After a night where Jimmy, desperately trying to hide his very obvious identity as a vampire but also desperately hungry, tries to feed off of Joel, and reveals his secret... Well, Joel had all rights to kill him right then and there. He reasons that there's no fun in killing someone so helpless but in truth there's something a bit charming about Jimmy. He's earnest, and he's just so... Not exactly innocent, but also sort of? He gives Joel to urge to protect him. To hold him so tight and close as to choke him. But in a sweet way. Probably.

Joel won't be able to put it into words for a long while yet, half because he refuses to let himself feel such things because he's so horrifically repressed. He was the only one at camp who didn't even guess Jimmy was a vampire before the big reveal because he's got negative int and wis (his strategy in battle is just hit things hard before they can hit you and honestly it works most of the time) so he'd just never noticed the obvious signs. Anyway. Because his blood is the tastiest and somehow he's one of the companions who acts the least weird about it, which really says a lot, Jimmy ends up mostly feeding off of him. And, well, something about letting your homie regularly suck blood out of your neck is bound to lead to something more. Joel becomes a bit possessive of his little birdie.

When Joel learns that he's Bhaal's special little princess, in truth he's fucking elated, because he spends weeks torturing himself in an attempt to remember who he is, what he's doing, what's wrong with him - and he's finally afforded answers. He leans fully into it. He's so happy to serve his God with bloodshed.

Until he's faced with him. With Bhaal. And after Joel committed countless atrocities (which the rest of their group didn't mind that much as lokgi as they stayed in the clear. They're all bad people) bhaal asks him to shed one last bit of blood before receiving his blessing, before becoming his chosen, he who will enact the murder God's plans. He needs to get rid of his pesky earthly desires and affections. They have no place within murder incarnate. He asks Joel to flat out kill Jimmy or die right here and then.

You'd think Joel would hesitate with how intensely pro-Bhaal he is. You'd think it would be a difficult decision. Jimmy would have thought too. Except that Joel's response is instant and intense. He tells Bhaal to go literally fuck himself, that he'd rather kill every last Bhaalspawn and make sure his bloodline ends with him, rather than lay a finger on Jimmy. Jimmy, whose helped his heavy heart feel so light and free. Jimmy, who makes him feel true warmth. Jimmy, who makes Joel want to appreciate every sunset, every breeze, every breath of fresh air. Jimmy, who treats Joel as so much more than a bloodthirsty beast.

Joel never thought he would want to be anything more than a bloodthirsty beast.

So of course Bhaal kills him because he's literally a god. Right in front of Jimmy. (there's plot and dnd magic that brings him back but it's definitely the culmination of his arc; that Joel, groomed to become murder incarnate, was given an opportunity to find another meaning to his life)

gordon: human (battle master) fighter. my boy is squishy with a big heart. full himbo material. he’s a little annoyed at how useless he feels being the most squishy (human) and having no magical abilities, but its almost weird how magical stuff sometimes starts happening when he get emotional or scared (does he have latent sorcerer bloodline abilities? is he just picking up on the magic he’s studied for so long? is he unwittingly siphoning energy off of a being he’s made a pact with without knowing? is he just a weird version of an eldritch knight? who knows. this idiot doesn’t even know he’s multiclassing now.) 

(its benrey. benrey starting juicing him up w magic bc he thought it was funny but never told him. tommy hasn’t said anything bc he assumed gordon is embarassed at not being good at the new magic. bubby doesnt care and coomer keeps assuming the magic is something else, which means gordon also assumes its something else.)

benrey: he says hes a tiefling. gordon has a theory hes some form of undead, or half-kobold or weird genasi or changeling or even a full demon. benrey keeps agreeing and then denying every theory. tommy says he doesn’t know, but also agrees with whatever benrey says next so, who’s to say. as for his class, he also never gives a straight answer. it’s clearly some form of innate magic, but he’s casting spells from every possible dominion and school and shapeshifting a lot so again, who’s to say. 

tommy: half-elf (beast master) ranger. he typically uses a bow but sometimes he pulls out this strange, really loud and really powerful thing that he never misses a shot on and never seems to give a straight answer when gordon asks what it is and looks at him like he’s the idiot for asking (its a gun. yes this is still high fantasy). By the end of the campaign, he’s also multiclassing into warlock, though he doesn’t use his magic much (his patron is gman, obviously lol) (is sunkist a regular magical dog because he’s a ranger, or a result of the pact of the chain? considering he’s had her since before multiclassing, the ranger thing would make sense, but theres something a bit off about her...)

sunkist: A Blink Dog! they teleport! she’s tommys constant companion and the perfect dog, except when shes not tommys constant companion but still the perfect dog!

bubby: he’s half... something. he doesn’t know. he was raised by gnomes though, and is used to being the tallest person in the room (this makes being around tommy very aggravating for him). As for his class, I really want to say bard bc I think it would be very very funny, but I think wild magic sorcerer (who says he’s an evocation wizard bc it makes him sound more smart) is also a very good choice. 

coomer: halfling artificer and monk multiclass! he builds lots of cool things. he’s honestly made himself half warforged at this point, what with all the enhancements he’s given himself. (what? you expect him to just make you a new arm right now, gordon? what gave you the idea he could do that, idiot? anyways, im sure we can trust this old friend tommy mentioned who is very good at magic- no, we shouldn’t go find a regular cleric, what if they sell us out to the Fantasy United States Military?)

darnold: either an elf or a half-orc transmutation wizard! he does potions with magic and gifts them to adventurers that all have various effects (he does have a habit of mislabeling them though, oops)

gman: elf warlock i think. something ancient and serves something even more so- however, he’s powerful enough (and immortal enough) in his own right to be the patron for another if needed. (yes he is pact of the blade and yes his weapon is his briefcase)

Sorry about asking that DnD question. I promise I'll ask better questions in the future. Anyways, what will each pokevillain's Dark Soul class be.

Hey, don’t apologize for that, it’s totally fine! It was a good question, it’s just that I don’t know about that, so I couldn’t answer properly!

Now, about the Dark Souls classes... I’m gonna choose this based on stats. We have in total:

Warrior, Knight, Wanderer, Thief, Bandit, Hunter, Sorcerer, Pyromancer, Cleric, Deprived (DS1) + Swordsman and Explorer (DS2) + Mercenary, Assassin and Herald (DS3).

The classes that are in more than one game had mild modifications in stats too, so I’ll take that into account and specify which version would be. ^^

Giovanni: I feel like Giovanni could be an Explorer! I think Giovanni’s best stats would be vitality and luck/adaptability. I also think he would have low DEX and endurance, he’s not very good at doing stuff with his hands. He surely has decent intelligence too. I suppose Explorer would be a good balance of stats for him, although the intelligence is very small... But unfortunately all classes that have high VIT and small DEX also have small INT so that leaves me without many options. And Explorer has super high adaptability and I think that suits Giovanni. (Would love to have given him Mercenary, but they have high DEX).

Archie: I would make him a Bandit from DS1, which has high endurance and strength, good resistanc eand vitality, medium faith and dexterity and small intelligence. I like these stats for him, although I might give him a bit more DEX. Archie is definitely very strong and resistant though. The Bandits in DS2 have really high DEX and not that much strength, so that wouldn’t fit him. 

Maxie: I chose for him a Knight from DS1! Even though I would like to give him a Pyromancer because of the fire thing, I think his best statuses would be DEX and vigor, and Pyromancers don’t really have those a lot... The Knight from DS 2 would be a good candidate if it wasn’t for the adaptability... I don’t see Maxie as a very flexible and adaptable person. Also, even though Maxie is not super intelligent, Knights in DS2 are incredibly dumb, they have 3 points of intelligence and that’s too little.DS1 Knights are very balanced, they have good strength too besides DEX, but I hc Maxie as decently strong. A lot weaker than Archie, but still stornger than he looks.

Cyrus: Sorcerer, I have no doubt! In all versions, sorcerers have really high intelligence and small stats in terms of health and fitness, which is how I headcanon Cyrus. Zero muscle, only thoughts. They tend to have lower faith as well, but it’s hard to talk about “faith” when talking about Pokémon... If it’s about believing in gods, well, their gods are literally Pokémon, they exist, so of course Cyrus believes in them. But well, if it’s faith as in “I trust things will be OK, in destiny and so on��, then a small amount of faith seems to suit Cyrus too. Also, usually sorceries have a blue coloration in DS so that also matches him! ^^

Ghetsis: I would give him the Assassin! Not only because it suits his personality, but also because of the stats. Assassins have high DEX and attunement, which I think suits Ghetsis. He has many abilities (with his spear and all) and is capable of learning a lot of different things (art, music, history and so on), which is how I would translate attunement slots into the real world! XD They also have decent intelligence and endurance, which I would say matches Ghetsis, most of the time. Also, their smallest stat is faith... I don’t see Ghetsis as a super faithful person so yeah. Suits him!

Colress: I’m thinking of the Pyromancer from DS3. They have hight intelligence and faith. I’m not sure if Colress has super high faith in terms of being trustful about destiny and so on, but faith in DS3 is related to your capacity to learn miracles, so since Colress is always learning new things, I think it works for him. Also, Pyromancers from DS1 had super tiny faith... But their other stats are kinda odd for Colress. Pyromancers have high attunement too, so that also matches him in my opinion. But the best thing is: DS3 Pyromancers have super low luck! And Colress in my comics is super unlucky!

N: Boring as it may be, I’m thinking about maybe making N a Deprived. It’s ironic, considering how he was raised, but in terms of stats, it’s literally the most balanced one. All stats are the same. I think N has a bit of everything, if I had to choose some better stats for him, it would probably be intelligence and faith. But the only class that has both is the DS3 Pyromancer and I think that they have too little DEX and vitality for N... I’m not super sure of it, but I might give him the Deprived. I also thought about DS1 Thief, but they have a super high DEX and I don’t see N with so much dexterity...

Lysandre: I wanted to give Lysandre high vitality and strength, because he’s very healthy and active, always willing to start somthing new, and also super physically strong, like... He’s huge. He’s possibly stronger than Archie even. He also has to have small faith because Lysandre lost all his faith in humanity! XD So I thought of giving him the Pyromancer from DS1. They have high ATT, STR and RES, decent VIT, END and INT and very little FTH. Their DEX is kinda low, but Lysandre is a little clumsy so that is not a problem.

Lusamine: I chose for her the Thief from DS1! Really high DEX, because she’s a talented woman, also high INT, ATT and FTH. Not very good with physical stats in general, though... Low STR, VIT, END and medium RES. The Thief from DS3 also has good intelligence and DEX, but has very little faith, and I honestly think Lusamine needs to have decent or high faith in her stats.

Guzma: I feel like Mercenary is a good choice for Guzma! They have high DEX, good END and VGR, which suit him well, also pretty good ATT, and Guzma sure is quick to learn new stuff. A decent intelligence and strength, and a small faith and luck... Yeah I think that’s a good combination of stats for him! Of course I would have liked to make him a thief but the stats seemed better with the mercenary! XD

Piers: Swordsman! High DEX, but very low vitality and vigor... I mean, look at that guy, he looks so tired all the time. XD But he’s also pretty talented and I hc he is very well coordinated (physically at least). Swordsmen also have good intelligence, endurance and strength, so that goes well for my version of Piers. Their faith is pretty low, which is OK for me, but I wish their adaptability and attunement were a bit higher... But that’s OK. I think this class is the best one for him! Also like to think about Piers wielding some swords. XD

Rose: I wanted Rose to be a Knight but for some reason, Knights are very dumb in DS so it wouldn’t work well with him! XD I like INT and VIT for Rose, probably a pretty high FTH too, and some VGR would be good... But this combination of stats is not typical of any class... I thought about the Pyromancer from DS3, but Rose is not unlucky and the VIT is too low... There really isn’t any class with that combination of stats. I’d make him a DS1 Knight who decided to swap his INT stat for his DEX stat. XD

Anyway, this took longer than I thought! XD But it was fun!
