Are there ANY stony/Star Trek AUs?
Okay. Um. I'm just going to assume this is a legitimate question and not actually a way to express frustration about my progress on the sequel I am writing (I stared at this ask for a while), so I will just conclude that you must have missed the Steve/Tony Star Trek AU I wrote, um, back in 2016:
Straight on till Morning (109848 words) by Sineala Chapters: 6/6 Fandom: Marvel (Comics), Marvel 616, Avengers (Comics) Rating: Explicit Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Steve Rogers/Tony Stark Characters: Steve Rogers, Tony Stark, Carol Danvers, Janet Van Dyne, Hank Pym, Wanda Maximoff, Pietro Maximoff, James "Rhodey" Rhodes, Clint Barton, Donald Blake (Marvel), Jocasta (Marvel) Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Star Trek Fusion, Action/Adventure, Romance, Hurt/Comfort, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder - PTSD, Pining, Angst, Secret Identity, Identity Porn, Sex Pollen, Fuck Or Die, Caves, Sex In A Cave, Technobabble, Happy Ending, Cap_Ironman Big Bang 2016, Community: cap_ironman, Podfic Available Summary:
Tony Stark resigned his commission in Starfleet five years ago, after a disastrous away mission, and he swore he'd never go back. He just wants to be left alone to build warp engines in peace. But the universe has more in store for him than that, as he discovers when Admiral Fury comes to him with an offer he could never have expected and cannot possibly refuse: first officer and chief engineer aboard the all-new USS Avenger, a starship of Tony's own design. What's more, the Avenger's captain is Steve Rogers, hero of the Earth-Romulan War. Believed dead for over a century, Steve is miraculously alive... and very, very attractive.
But nothing is ever easy for Tony. As he wrestles with his secret desire for his new captain and his not-so-dormant fears, another mission starts to go wrong, and Tony becomes aware that Steve has secrets of his own -- and the truth could change everything.
So, yeah, if you actually haven't read that one, that'll keep you busy for a while. It's a Trek fusion with comics Steve/Tony, set in the era of the later TOS movies. (This is important so that you can picture the correct uniforms, and also because it actually matters that the events of Star Trek II, III, and IV have happened.) It was a Big Bang fic, so it's got some great art by Ran and Phoenix -- embedded in the story -- and also M_Samro made a really amazing podfic of it, if you like podfics.
For a charity auction in 2017, I promised I would write a sequel, and I plotted the whole thing out and started writing this extremely epic sequel, which was unfortunately, about a plague threatening the galaxy, and I got about 120,000 words in and then 2020 happened and I decided I needed to not be writing it right now. So it went on an extended hiatus.
But the good news is that I've actually gotten back to it! I picked it up again last month and I've put 40,000 more words in it since then and at this exact moment I am currently working on the last scene of Chapter 4 (out of six total)! I swear it is happening! I've been putting in about a thousand words a day for the past month! It is really happening this time! The sequel is coming! I promise! I know it has been years but it's happening!
See? It's happening! (I would include a screencap of the part that is happening, but all of Chapter 4 is pretty spoilery.)
So that will exist! Someday! I mean that!
And if you're asking about Steve/Tony Star Trek AUs by people other than me, there are some! If you filter the AU - Star Trek Fusion tag by Steve/Tony, there are 25 matches. Several of them are related to my fic (remixes, art) but there is some stuff that isn't my fault! I haven't read a lot of them because I was trying not to read things that seemed like they might be similar to mine while I was plotting my series here, and also I have never finished watching DS9, so I skipped the DS9 ones.
Under Stars by vulcanscully: A fun fusion that I thought was interesting because Steve is an ensign and that's not how this usually goes.
Discovery of the Century by DepressingGreenie: More 616 in flavor than a lot of the Trek AUs, this is basically Finding Steve In The Ice but Make It Star Trek. As far as I am concerned, Finding Steve In The Ice is great every time.
and so we rebuild by raeldaza: I'm probably biased because this one was inspired by my fic, but I also really enjoyed this one for not being how these things usually go. A lot of Trek AUs in many fandoms are written through a TOS/AOS kind of lens and will often do a Kirk/Spock thing and make one of them a Vulcan or half-Vulcan. In this one that's Tony, but also he's a terrible Vulcan! He's found a new way to disappoint his father!
Stellar Love Affairs by AvengersNewB: I honestly had never imagined a Star Trek fusion that was also A/B/O but I think it really works here! It's like bringing pon farr full circle.
Xenophilia by Captain_Panda: Captain_Panda has several Trek AUs but I am reccing this one because it's the longest. And also the whumpiest. Everyone loves some good away-mission whump!
So there you go! Live long and prosper! I promise I am still writing this Star Trek AU sequel!

Since irredeamable wont release for some time. Ill be presenting some of my notable projects. I`ll start with the one i would most recommend. It's pretty old and janky but i think there is plenty to find for those willing to get past its flaws.
Black heart: Play it here and now!
One of my most Ambitious project ever, black heart is a sidescrolling action-adventure game, highly inspired by the zelda series. In it, you play as 3 sisters, going on a perilous journey to rescue their people from the tyrannical grasp of an evil empress.
Pros: -Each of the 3 sisters comes with a unique feel. From their attack pattern to their health, physics, and items. Much of the game is built around those distinctions. -The story is simple but effective, with a clear goal to achieve and many characters to meet. -The world is very expensive and diverse, containing several interconnected zones to discover and explore. -The lore is complex, nuanced, and intricate, each of the races is well-developed with their own history, culture, heroes, and villains. -The dungeons are large and numerous. Each features its own type of puzzle and distinct aesthetic. -The bosses are all unique and ambitious, often featuring several phases, mechanics, and attack patterns. -There are a whole lot of secrets to find, certain fun and silly, others strange or creepy.
Cons: -The main characters are pretty bland and display little personality outside of the few traits they are given. -Combat can be pretty bare-bone and uninteresting outside of boss fights -Some of the writing and lore have not aged well and could be considered a bit tasteless or insensitive. -Since puzzles are often built around specific characters which have their own hp, losing them can force players to backtrack.
Recommended to: -Fans of Zelda games who crave another game in the genre. -People who want to get lost in a big and complex world. -People who want to experience a fantasy world unlike any other. -People who long for a game that they can discover for themselves without risking being spoiled by walkthroughs or wikis.
Estimated Duration: 6-8 hours.

Wakfu Season 3, Episodes 1-6
//tw mentions of SA
Episode 1 - Fallen Heroes
I had a very long discussion with a friend of mine, who is a fan of medical settings, about how cool the existence of IV within the lore of Krosmoz is.
We didn't come to any conclusion. It was just us fanboying about this. Because my friend loves medical things and I love putting character into situations (some of which would not be survivable, if them being put on IV wasn't possible) (big fan of the concept of Joris getting poisoned and very sick and Kerubim and Atcham freaking the fuck out).
Funnily enough, during the making of my YouTube series, I discovered that there are two Sram-venerating women named Toxine in this franchise.
youtube
Adamai harbouring feelings of violence towards the members of the brotherhood is a good idea, (<- obviously the guy that wants Joris to beat the shit out of Kerubim would say this), but man, it could have been so cool if someone competent was working with this idea.
Episode 3 - Oropo's Tower
I should admit, this moment was probably a big win for Tristepin Mental Illness fans. Also, this is sadly the most explicit they can get with the reasons why Tristepin might hate being the Iop god in a cartoon.
He has plenty of reasons. Not only had Iop had 394824 demigods who hated him and felt abandoned by him while suffering fates worse than death (all gods have those) and just as many mortals he took advantage of using the power imbalance of godhood and promises of love (all gods have done that), he also canonically sexually assaulted a woman.
Ngl, if I was Tristepin, I would be considering killing myself — however, the kids and the wife would be sad.
They shuoild do this to Yugo too. He also had other wives. Albeit in an infinitely less insane way than Tristepin. Ankama.., please stop ignoring how existentially horrifying the Eliatrope demigods are.
In the Dofus MMO Kerubim pretty much calls the brotherhood of the forgotten an emo club of people with too much free time on their hands doing nothing but whining about their daddy issues.
And he was so real for that.
Btw canonically, Mishelle/Coqueline makes him feel intimidated (due to her grand age) while she herself doesn't really care about him (besides liking his good attitude towards animals), and is actually besties with Otomai.
Episode 4 - Beastly Girl
I like to headcanon that Joris's relationship with Coqueline is that he projects onto her ("oh god.... being 7 forever would make me kill myself.... even being 3ft tall is already horrible and makes me want to die..... the poor woman must be suffering") while she's like,, 1. probably doesn't think of herself as a "woman". I think she would describe herself as a creature, maybe a girlcreature, and 2. is literally chilling and doesn't give a single shit about anything but animal welfare and direct anti-god action.
I think talking to her would kill Joris because he'd realize that not every immortal person is as insecure about Literally Everything as he is.
She literally says, "the only good gods are ex-gods". We stan a leftist girlcreature?
This screenshot can be used as a reaction image for so many different shows. More fictional parents should say "my child is NOT ascending to godhood and shedding their mortality, becoming something beyond my comprehension, before they're of age. Fuck you."
Episode 5 - A Iop Hides Himself to Cry
You want to read @bitter-panacea's analysis posts about Goultard so bad.
Despite my negative feeling on s3, this is a WIN for Goultard fans, as far as I'm aware. (and Goultard enjoyers, since I kinda consider myself one)
I;'m going to walk into the sea.
Episode 6 - The Ecaflip's Scratching Post
YEAH BABY, A FULL ON IN-SHOW CONFIRMATION OF MY "USH HAS A DIFFERENT MOM THAN KERUBIM AND ATCHAM" HYPOTHESIS.
This might not seem like a contentious issue to normal people. Gods have... a lot of different lovers, so it seems normal to assume that Ush has one mom, while Kerubim and Atcham are twins like Eleley and Flopin, and have a different mom...
But a cancelled game that Tot really liked and still considers canon had really weird "there's an Ecaflip priestess who is the CEO of Giving Birth" lore, and was planned to be the mysterious mom of Kerubim and Atcham (and many other demigods), which contradicts a lot of previously established lore (ankama LOVES retcons. sadly).
I am quite open about thinking this is stupid and not considering this canon until they show her to me in an actual released media (and even then I will find a way to headcanon a better reality). Seeing the series itself acknowledge that Ush is not Atcham and Kerubim's full brother makes me feel quite better.
Hi Ush were you doing [SEXUAL ACTS REDACTED] upon cats again.
Cute...
A normal thing for a Bontarian to do. Blue-clad (metaphorically, he isn't wearing blue but white. Still very Bontarian though) man over here protecting kids and women. While also beating them up.
But unironically, I think it's cute that he has this gap moe of being an evil man who also saves people and cares about honour (because that's a proper thing to do) despite cheating constantly.
Somehow, his shallowness and "I mostly care about appearances, even if I do have a moral code" sort of behaviour is just as Extremely Bontarian as Joris's.... 30 mental illnesses.
youtube
THE OST IN THIS EP IS SO GOOD. ECAFLIP FANS WINNING ONCE AGAIN.
Hey past me! Maybe he really does pay these cats to put up with his insane behaviours. 🤨
Yugo, I'm gonna be real with you:
he's probably heard Joris and Kerubim say these exact words at least twice before,
He is reallllllly weird about cats and I am unsure if that's illegal in your setting,
He lured in people to kill in his tower for sport serial killer style.
He's bontarian. -20 morality and honor points immediately.

I'm low-key obsessed with Twilight saga Wars, and I'm having thoughts™ about it.
Ok so Wars would be a) unnaturally strong for a human teenager, b) be pissed at Edward (or very annoyed at least), c) pretty trigger happy.
So I propose: let Wars fight Edward and win, multi times even. He found Edward staring at him at night and just casually fling him out the window so hard there's a dent in the pavement, and Wars dragging Edward into the woods by the collar because seriously he's been staring again it's time to beat him up.
They get into a brief fight every week, with Wars always winning, somehow. Edward has been cheating in fights with his power for a century he is sooo obsessed with someone beating him and he's chalking it all up to not being able to read Wars. He didn't really catch up on Wars' strength until Alice points it out, because he's a hundred years old dumb teenager and I love him for that.
I think eventually they might find some kind of grumpy friendship in the fights. Alice would love Wars just for handing Edwards ass, and Edward would hate Wars even more for that.
Also, the Italian Royal Vampire ™ with a name starting with V that I can't remember. They would be so interested in Wars in a really bad way. I mean they search for talented humans and turn them just to see if they have any powers, and if any news about Wars get to them they would definitely come for him.
i think its so fucking funny that this cursed ass au is what people are excited about and wanting more of from me, not my big hero 6 au, not my incredibly serious not at all crack series /srs, not even my own links meets au. The people have spoken and the people want ‘Twilight: Everything Is The Same Except LU Warriors Is Bella’, and also Swan Wars. Both of which I will deliver to you if you give me time to cook (And Mandarin Wars anon, i WILL post yours before i do these)
also you’re so right, the Volturi (i hope i spelled that right) are gonna be so interested in Wars if/when they discover his existence. I have a lot of ideas for how I want Warriors to be able to exist in this modern world, I want him to still have some abilities that he does in his HW game, and I’m probably gonna have to just test a few out to see how i like em

Before I get started I should specify what the Piper James series is. It was first intended to be a satirical (not critical, necessarily) look at the hero and villain genre, that slowly delved into the deeper themes and effects of the plot on the characters and a look into the characters themselves. If I were to sum up the genre I'd say it's a "satire superhero (dark) comedy"? I don't know.
With that out of the way...
Piper James Episodes (And Episode Revisions) Part 1 - Season 1
The season that started it all. Lots of the episodes have either unclear or weird things about them, so a lot of them have been revised. Enjoy!
Episode One (Pilot) (Case: Shady-Spa/Case: Perfect-Picnic): "During a surprise break, Piper visits the spa Sandra picked up a job at, only for them both to realize it’s a trap by CHAOS/Piper wants a peaceful picnic “date” with Sandra, while an angry T20 tries to sabotage their plan using a giant...robot...ant."
Significance: This was the debut of Piper James. Otherwise, pretty boring.
Episode Two (Case: T20-is-Good?*/Case: Brooke-is-Broke-(Again)): T20 gets hit by a big book and begins acting like a regular person/Later, Brooke, the porcelain girl, gets hit by someone’s car, shatters, and needs help.
Revision: T20 was never a kind person, so acting like a regular person was more fitting.
Significance: This version foreshadows the change in T20’s personality.
Episode Three (Case: Carnival-Jester/Case: Mascot): Piper and the gang, while at an amusement park, encounter a crazy jester woman who was sent by CHAOS, but despises Piper for different reasons/Piper notices kids are turning into puppets after encountering the park’s mascot, Manny the Bug.
Significance: The first of the backstory drops comes from Satire the Jester.
Episode 4 (Case: Jones/Case: T20’s-Story): Piper discovers a journal belonging to Jones, the last member of the secret organization, and is inspired to start his own/Piper talks to T20 after finding him upset, and listening to his story about how he became a villain.
Significance: This is where the series takes a shift from the wackiness of the first few episodes.
Episode 5 (Case:-Shut/Case: Musical-Retelling): After Piper discovers something about him, T20 tries to shoot him with one of his inventions, but it backfires/Piper wakes up one day and sees everyone is singing, which soon pushes him to solve the problem.
Significance: It introduces T20’s habit of falling in love with tough women. Trixie is, however, older than him, so it isn’t really right. Maybe I could hint at his crush on Sandra instead? I'd have to change the ending, though.
Also, this is the last time the “Case: Episode/Episode” format is used.
Episode 6 (The Chaotic T20, Trixie, and Bea Episode): In the special, Piper finds an old photograph of someone who looks like T20. T20, upset that he found this, works on a device to separate him from his past, on the day Trixie’s best friend Bea plans to visit. To try and cheer T20 up, she disguises herself as Bea but finds there are multiple T20s in his room. Bea comes over to find Trixie dressed as her...chaos ensues.
Significance: Not only does it secretly reveal a new character, but it’s also the episode T20 realizes something is off about being a villain. Bonus, it’s the last time Trixie disguises.
Episode Seven (The Musical?): Piper James’ unfinished comic as a musical. Self explanatory.
Significance: I’m unsure about this one, as it was never finished. But it did point out inconsistencies in the original story. I don’t think it’s important to the main story, though.
Episode Eight (Villainz): Piper decides to join T20 and Trixie’s antics, so Sandra and Doug look for someone to fill his place. While Piper, T20, and Trixie make chaos (literally), the others meet Harold, who seems to know everything about everything...including CHAOS.
Significance: Seemingly starts T20’s development.
Revision: T20’s dad never went “missing”. He wasn’t even a part of it. Instead, having Harold know about CHAOS (and T20’s mom) is more fitting.
Episode 9 (Therapist): Piper tries to seek therapy from the old T20...he is very not helpful.
Significance: Foreshadows Peter’s hatred of T20?
Episode 10 (Little Scouts)*: Piper James and co go to a campsite, where a southern girl (Killer Whale) and some nerd (Sharkfin) were bored to kidnap them (for money).
Significance: None. This episode is...not that important. It is fun though.
Revision: T20’s mom is more likely to kidnap her son than actually kill him.
Episode 11 (Lovey-Dovers)*: A Cupid that has been hired tries to destroy “evidence” that T20 is finding about himself. Piper tries to intervene, but instead gets hit by a love arrow. In fact, everyone has been hit by one...besides Sandra. So she, Piper, and T20 must find a way to get the evidence back, and turn everyone back.
Revision: Similar to in episode five, T20 having a crush on Trixie is not good. It would, however, it’d be funny if T20 fell in love with his hero adversary Sandra. And Trixie’s now out of town, I guess.
Significance: More information about T20 is learned. Also, the Chaos Crystal is some Chaos BS.
Episode 12 (Mairy Jaine (Mary Jane))*: After being hired by You-Know-Who, Mary attempts to bring Piper and co down, but recognizes T20 and joins them instead. She reveals that she and T20 were old friends, but drifted apart. She also reveals she now has a villainous side to her too, Mairy. But is this really true?
Revision: The original episode was incredibly painful to dissect, so I made it more fitting for the both of them. Also, I'm thinking maybe Mairy simply exists as a villain persona of Mary as to try and impress T20? It makes sense.
Significance: Marissa’s first appearance. And, T20’s name is actually Tyler!
Episode 13 (Video Gamer (I forgot the name)*): You-Know-Who hires a video game developer named Kai to trap Piper and co in a video game, but the game is surprisingly horrific for T20...
Revision: In this version, the video game better resembles what happened to T20. Also, Ray is Kai’s younger brother, and is actually the one to save Piper and friends.
Significance: Secretly shows what happened to Tyler for the first time.
Episode 14 (In-Depth Look (MAJOR REVISION)): The gang works with Marissa to study more about what happened to Tyler (T20), but T20 gets kidnapped in the midst of it. So Piper and friends decide to take a nice walk in the park, when they realize that something about the city is starting to feel...off.
Revision: The Chaos Crystal doesn’t make much sense in the modern series, so it’s been dropped entirely. Also, Tyler getting kidnapped better transitions into the finale.
Significance: Last episode before the finale!
Episode 15 (Season One Finale): In the season one finale, T20’s mom (who had been the Frenchman this whole time?!?!) is making sure he has luxury (as a villain), explaining the changes in the city, when T20 just wants a regular life. Piper James takes the initiative to save him.
Significance: The finale. Also, T20 has a really epic monologue and pushes his mother off a [short] cliff.
This marks the first change in Tyler’s personality.
Piper James gets a little bit of development too?
That's all for part 1! I will link part 2 here when I finish it... let me know what you think so far!!! :)
Edit: PART 2!!!
Edit: tagging @papercutzo and @frayedcircus since they may possibly be interested! :)

Episode Review: "Destiny"/"The Winter King" (Fionna & Cake, Eps. 5–6)
Airdate: September 14, 2023
Story by: Anthony Burch, Adam Muto, Hanna K. Nyström, Jack Pendarvis, Kate Tsang
Storyboarded by: Hanna K. Nyström, Anna Syvertsson, Jacob Winkler, Sonja von Marensdorff
Directed by: Ryann Shannon (supervising), Hans Tseng (art)
One of my favorite moments from Adventure Time comes at the very end of season four's "The Lich" when we are introduced to "Farmworld" for the first time. When the episode aired, this reveal was positively huge, adding as it did a brand new reality to the already complex world of Ooo. The show would go on to expand our understanding of Farmworld in the season five premiere "Finn the Human"/"Jake the Dog" and the season seven episode "Crossover," but even with all those episodes, I never could shake the feeling that there was so much more the series could have done with Farmworld. You can thus imagine my surprise when I learned that Fionna and Cake of all people would be journeying to this strangely normal alternate dimension!
"Destiny" picks up with Fionna, Cake, and Simon landing in Farmworld, roughly 10 or so years after the events of "Crossover." Following the destruction of the Farmworld crown, things returned to their (post-apocalyptic) normalcy, and Ice-Finn (or, as the people in Farmworld call him, "The Snow Man") has grown into a strapping Man-Finn who is busy raising three children (his wife, it seems, has died). One of Finn's kids, Jay, overhears Fionna, Cake, and Simon asking around about the Farmworld crown, and so he steals them away to meet his father. Once Man-Finn discovers what it is Simon and Co. seek, however, he bids them to leave. Going against his father's wishes, Jay sneaks Fionna, Cake, and Simon to the crater where the Farmworld Bomb had detonated, where they all discover the charred remnants of the crown. At this point, Jay reveals that previously when visiting the crater, he had discovered one of the crown's jewels. The final act of the episode is a sees Fionna, Cake, Simon, Man-Finn, and Jay square off against the Destiny Gang and Scarab, who we learn has been trailing our heroes this whole time. After securing the jewel from Big D's turncoat daughter, Simon fuses it with Prismo's remote, zapping himself, Fionna and Cake to another reality just as Scarab stabs(?!) Man-Finn in the head.
First and foremost, I must stress that "Destiny" feels very much like an episode of the "original" Adventure Time. This is likely a result of the Farmworld setting: as a world, it is overflowing with an absurdist energy and out-there characters (e.g., Big D!) that I intimately associate with the adventures of Finn and Jake. And let me know emphatically state: This is not a bad thing. Not at all. I love how the producers have been able to weave the Adventure Time "feel" into something new. It is like meeting an old friend after a long time apart (only for that old friend to get stabbed in the head by a space-god).
OK, but seriously… did Farmworld Finn die? I hope note. If he did, that would mean that Jay's actions were directly responsible for his father getting killed. That's pretty dark. And considering all the bad dads in the Oooniverse, it would be nice if one of the good ones was allowed to live a (relatively) happy life.
Airdate: September 14, 2023
Story by: Anthony Burch, Adam Muto, Hanna K. Nyström, Jack Pendarvis, Kate Tsang
Storyboarded by: Iggy Craig, Graham Falk, Jim Campbell, Lucyola Langi, Nicole Rodriguez
Directed by: Steve Wolfhard (supervising), Hans Tseng (art)
After zapping away from Farmworld, Simon, Fionna, and Cake teleport to a reality ruled by the "Ice Prince"—an alt-universe Simon Petrikov who has somehow managed to avoid the madness that plagued Ice King. Simon quickly tells his fellow Petrikov the group's goals, and the Ice Prince gallantly agrees to help them by duplicating his own crown. Things are going swimmingly until the evil "Candy Queen" swoops in and snatches away both Simon and the Ice Prince. Fionna, Cake, and Ice Prince's guards dart to their rescue, brutally (but humorously) massacring dozens of hideously mutated candy citizens. Fionna and Cake rescue Simon and the Ice Prince, but once Fionna and Ice Prince share a kiss, the awful truth is revealed: Ice Prince is not some gentleman who overcame the madness of the crown through sheer will. No, he was a self-centered "wad" who used magic to deflect his madness onto the poor Candy Queen… who, as we quickly learn, is just an alternate universe version of Princess Bubblegum. Thanks to fairy tale logic, Fionna's kiss breaks Ice Prince's magic spell, which causes his crown to lose power. He subsequently crumbles to dust and everything he has created melts away.
So far, of the episodes we've gotten, I think "The Winter King" has been my favorite, largely because of the way it explores Simon's psychological character.
One thing that made Ice King’s story so tragic was how Simon, in his original form, was fundamentally a good person, buried deep within the mind of an outwardly "evil" wizard. "The Winter King" neatly conveys the opposite of this situation by showing us an Alt-Simon who, while outwardly "good," had long ago squandered his sense of morality for selfish gain. Not to get too analytical, but all of the good/bad talk reminds me of what the psychologist Carl Jung called the "Shadow." Put in simplest terms, the Shadow is a part of the unconscious human psyche in which repressed, rejected, or unrecognized aspects of the Self are contained, far from the light of conscious thought. The Shadow tends to seal away attributes of the Self that we wish to downplay or dismiss, making it "the home of the suppressed monsters of our inner world," in which "the energy of [our] dark side" bubbles (to quote Christopher Vogler). Furthermore, the Shadow exists as the inverse of our conscious Ego (meaning that, as Jung put it, "when one tries desperately to be good and wonderful and perfect, then all the more the shadow develops a definite will to be black and evil and destructive"). And because it is unconscious, the Shadow eludes easy detection. Nevertheless, its contents can often be ascertained by keeping an eye out for psychological “projection,” wherein a person denies their own foibles and instead recognizes those defects in others.
Now consider this topic in relation to "The Winter King." Let us start with Ice King, a hyperbolically crazy and "evil" wizard. I would argue that Ice King is a textbook of Simon's Shadow made manifest: He is everything that Simon consciously does not want to be brought to the surface in its entirety. The tragedy of Simon is that, while he doesn't often talk about it, he knows deep down that Ice King, while corrupted and warped by the crown, was an aspect of himself. In fact, this entire series feels very much like Simon’s journey to fully recognize his own Shadow.* And the fact that he starting to do this despite it being a painful process is, in my opinion, the clearest evidence of his ethical/moral character. Conversely, Alt-Simon is not like this. When presented with his Shadow, he does not choose to begin the painful recognition process. Instead, he projects it onto an innocent person; he builds up an elaborate "nice king" persona while literally condemning someone for his own sins. It is important to note that psychological projection is a pretty normal occurrence and thus not a surefire marker of "evil" or anything like that. What makes this instance of projection so bad is that Alt-Simon does this fully aware that it will cause someone to suffer for crimes they did not commit. Alt-Simon is like the "pious" archbishop who burns the "evil witches" at the stake all because he cannot come to terms with his own inner demons.
Now that is messed up!
But you know what isn't messed up? The voice acting in this episode. I do not say this to be hyperbolic: "The Winter King" may very well be Hynden Walch's finest performance to date. Her take on the Candy Queen is truly horrifying in a decidedly blursed way. So fundamentally different is her performance that at first I thought it was someone else! Also stealing the spotlight in this episode is Brian David Gilbert, erstwhile writer for Polygon and maker of many a wacky YouTube video. Gilbert's Ice Prince exudes the perfect amount of over-the-top flamboyance and faux chivalry. Both Walch and Gilbert get a song apiece in this episode, and both do a stellar job. (As an aside, have we ever had a true-blue PB song? Does the Candy Queen's song count?)
Oh, and as a quick aside: "The Winter King" features a few short scenes set in Fionna's non-magical world that follow Marshall Lee and Gary Prince as the latter tries to bake something that will earn him greater renown. Going into these scenes, I thought I would have found them a bit dull, but they were quite endearing. It's obvious that these scenes are a way for us to explore how Marceline and Bubblegum got to know one another, but from the parallax angle of a genderbent world, and I am here for it!
Final "Destiny" Grade: A
Final "The Winter King Grade": A
* My Prediction: Simon will attempt to become the Ice King, only to realize that a full-on transformation is not just necessary but ultimately dangerous. Recognizing one's Shadow does not mean you become synonymous with; it simply means that you know it's there.

SUPACELL (2024– ): Interesting but uneven Black British superhero drama, created by Rapman, about five seemingly unrelated South Londoners — delivery driver Michael (Tosin Cole), nurse Sabrina (Nadine Mills), ex-con Andre (Eric Kofi Abrefa), pot dealer Rodney (Calvin Demba), and gang leader Tazer (Josh Tedeku) — who discover that they have superhuman powers. Michael sets out to find the others after getting a glimpse of the near future in which he learns that his fiancée Dionne (Adelayo Adedayo) will soon be killed. However, Andre is more concerned with reconnecting with his teenage son (Ky-Mani Carty) and finding a job, Sabrina is desperately trying to keep hers while also trying to keep her sister Sharleen (Rayxia Ojo) out of trouble, Rodney is using his super-speed powers to run London's fastest weed delivery service, and Tazer is enmeshed in an escalating gang war against his former mentor Krazy (Ghetts).
The cast is great (Abrefa, Tedeku, Ghetts, and Ojo are especially good), the characters are engaging, the dialogue and setting are convincing, and there are some clever touches (including the eventual explanation of the title in Ep. 6). However, while watching the ways the characters' emerging powers impact their lives is engrossing, the actual superhero plot (which has distinct echoes of the late and unlamented HEROES) feels a bit stale, the characters' powers are not always clearly delineated, the big fight scenes are sometimes blah, and there are some hokey touches (like over-use of the glowing eyes effect seen on the poster image above).
More concerningly, SUPACELL's attitude toward and treatment of Black women is frequently troubling. The very talented Adedayo is wasted — I hated the way the narrative treated Dionne, which at points had me tempted to nope out — and most of the show's Black female characters consistently get very rough treatment with noticeably less sympathy than the men, which cast a gloomy pall over an otherwise compelling series.
CONTAINS LESBIANS? Not that I noticed, and given the show's attitude toward women, I fear any wlw would meet bad ends in short order. VERDICT: Given how relentlessly most nerd media marginalizes and mistreats Black characters and cast, it's great to see Black characters centered in a story like this, but while much of SUPACELL is really quite good, the misogyny left a bad taste.

Twenty Fanfic Writer Questions
Tagged by @storyspinner91 AND @ankahikoibaat so you know i gotta do it - thanks guys!
Tagging @bisexualshakespeare @blackdalek @rotaryshakes @aurorawest @bizzybee429 @mareebird @woobifiedvillain @cenobitic-anchorite @maeve-curry-writes @morriganwarrior @celamity @peterbenjaminparkour 1. How many works do you have on Ao3? 29. not bad for thirteen months!
2. What’s your total Ao3 word count? 226,628
3. What fandoms do you write for?
willow 2022, my obsession
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Velvet Fist, Iron Glove - so what if kit and graydon had to get married after all? and graydon was a trans man and kit discovered a predilection for domming? and then they started sleeping with jade? and graydon started sleeping with boorman? and graydon and airk got kidnapped together and... and then i need to get back to writing this one i guess. the greater tir asleen polycule is thriving! Thrown Like a Star - a kissing lesson on the shattered sea gets out of hand, and graydon and boorman start fooling around. when the immemorial city happens, they realize they're down bad for each other, and it changes everything. graydon finds out about the lie he's been living, boorman finds out what his life is about now that he knows he's not the hero of the story, and they find peace in each other. i gotta get back to writing this one too actually, there's a sequel a-comin Shattered Sea Crack: It Came From Beneath the Mud - a halloween fic about the questie gang telling scary stories on the shattered sea, and jade smokes 'em all Zombie Crack: Night of the Living Dental Dam - kit and jade try some role-playing to spice up their sex lives. i wrote this ficlet to get my ao3 word count to an even 100K! Funhouse Crack: Mirror Maze - kit and jade go on a date to a carnival, but the mirror maze proves tricky... 5. Do you respond to comments?
pretty much every one, yeah. i'm dying to talk about my writing XD
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
i don't really do that, lol. some of the halloween crack fics end with everyone dying.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
a lot of them have happy endings, if you know what i mean ;) but no they pretty much all do. except the ones where they all die!
8. Do you get hate on fics?
no? not sure i'm popular enough for that lol
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
mostly yes! mostly m/m, mostly fairly vanilla. some light bdsm flavors here and there. the graydon/airk/elora silly kink funtimes series features a lot of goofy roleplay.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
not yet but i keep pondering them
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
not that i know of!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
nope!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
ooh way back in the day yeah. would love to again (i see you @littleblackraincloudofcourse)
14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
graydon hastur and thraxus boorman, or as i insist on tagging my constant posts about them, #graythrax
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
anything i've posted is gonna get finished. i don't know when because i keep getting distracted by new shiny ideas but i plan to finish them all :D
16. What are your writing strengths?
i've gotten really good at ignoring that little voice that goes 'that isn't good enough. that's dumb. no one will like this. give up'. i'm a really good speller too! committing to the bit is a big one. aaaand going from 'people will figure out things about me from what i write oh no :0' to 'frankly i would enjoy the attention so go ahead'
17. What are your writing weaknesses? getting butthurt about not getting enough attention, lol
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
i would have to ask someone who's fluent to help me
19. First fandom you wrote for?
xena!
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Thrown Like a Star - it's what got me writing again after a very long hiatus, and it's the story i most wanted to see that no one else was writing. how i write has changed a bit since i started but it's still so powerful to me, to have realized my vision for it to such a degree. i only wish more people were as interested in my favorite ship so i could share that joy with them <3

WEEKLY BOOK RECS: 5/31/24-6/7/24
Princess by Gaelen Foley
Ummmm I've been very vocal about how much I love this book, so I won't go on for too long. But I LOVE! This book. A tortured bodyguard. A spoiled princess he for sure should not be touching (even though she very badly wants him to touch her). An EVIL general (her fiance). Stolen kisses, spats, brilliant hate sex, and totally swoony, passionate romance. It's everything I want out of a historical romance novel. Obsessed.
The Witch Collector by Charissa Weaks
The first in an ongoing series (which is largely about one couple) this is a strong, entertaining, actually romantic fantasy romance. Which is harder to find than you'd think! I loved our long-suffering hero, the titular Witch Collector, and Raina, the witch he basically ends up having to work with. Their dynamic was both hilarious and sexy, and I really enjoyed that Raina was allowed to be strong but also like... a girl. A girl who sometimes made bad decisions. A girl who sometimes made bad decisions because Bearded Magic Man Hot. GOOD SHIT.
Tangled Lies by Anne Stuart
Have you ever wanted to read a category romance from the 80s wherein the heroine goes to Hawaii to reunite with her long-lost brother, only to discover that said brother is hot, actually? No? BIG MISTAKE! HUGE! This is fucking crazy and so enjoyable and somehow I didn't guess the Big Twist (not the one about him not actually being her brother... Harlequin made Anne Stuart be upfront about that with the reader, if not with our poor heroine who just thinks she's horny for her own flesh and blood for quite a while) which is typical me. So fun.

My Top 10 Anticipated Superhero Projects for 2025
After a year with very few projects from both Marvel & DC Comics, 2025 is set to be an action packed year full of some of the weirdest and most fun Superhero projects we've seen in awhile.
Don't get me wrong, I loved The Penguin & Agatha All Along, but both felt like nice surprises as opposed to projects I was looking forward to.
With DC in a rebuilding phase, and Marvel in a retooling phase, I'm eager to see who will come out on top at the end of the year. While Marvel has way more projects, DC has a few that can easily be among the best, if not THEE best of 2025.
Here are my Top 10 projects to look forward to in 2025.
10. Wonder Man
Yayha Abdul Mateen II returns for his third major comic book role in the upcoming Disney+ series, Wonder Man.
Simon Williams is entering the MCU in a big way, that seems to be leaning into the more acting part of his character. Very little is known about this project besides Ben Kingsley will be returning as Trevor Slattery and "Wonder Man" is a role within the universe.
Wonder Man is a superman like character, who is typically an Avenger and more often than not is a B-list actor in universe. This gives Marvel a lot of room for some Hollywood fun and to take some liberties with the character.
I'm a big fan of Wonder Man, Yayha, and it seems like a big swing for Marvel. If it's anything like WandaVision or Agatha All Along, I will be watching.
9. Marvel Zombies
A spin-off of Marvel's What If, Marvel Zombies is set to bring back some of my favorite MCU characters, including Yelena Belova, Kate Bishop, Ms. Marvel, Shang-Chi, and even our first look at Blade.
First look images even include a look at Zombie Ikaris, Abomination, and Dora Milage.
What If episodes have been a little hit or miss for me, but even so I'm still excited for this miniseries.
I'm not sure what to expect from this show yet, but if it is anything like the comics from Robert Kirkman, I am pumped and ready.
8. Gen V - Season 2
While it is yet to compare to it's original, The Boys spin-off Gen-V has set up quite a few storylines and proved it's a show worth watching and standing on it's own.
Set in a college for Supes, several students have to uncover a mystery at the heart of Godolkin University and discover what it means to be a hero.
With interesting characters, powers and just enough connections to The Boys, it's a show worth watching that many more people need to checkout. With that cliff hanger, the ending of Season 4 of The Boys, and unfortunate passing of Chance Perdomo, I'm interested in seeing how they move the story forward.
7. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
It's about time we got another Spider-Man animated show huh?
In a universe where Peter is mentored by Norman Osborn, Peter Parker must become Spider-Man in this homage to 60s comics, and take on a myriad of his classic villains, with heroes like Nico Minoru, Daredevil & Doctor Strange.
I'm a huge fan of Spider-Man and all the animated Marvel projects on Disney+ so far. While I am patiently waiting for a trailer, I am very optimistic for this.
In a less stacked year this would be higher on the list, but until we get a look it can't break the top 5.
6. Thunderbolts*
The first major film on my list, Thunderbolts feels like Captain America: Winter Soldier meets The Avengers, both films I love.
After several of the antiheroes of the MCU get framed by an unknown entity, they must team up to find what they are missing and become the Thunderbolts.
This is one of the few MCU teams up that have been built up over different projects, so I'm hoping this is a satisfying conclusion and good set up for Avengers: Doomsday.
While I wish the team was different, the cast looks great and the direction looks very fun. And with The Void as most likely the main bad guy, we are likely gonna get a very emotional ending.
Here's hoping it is a winner.
5. Peacemaker Season 2
Even though the DCU starts this year with Creature Commandos, the live action starts with a certain film and Peacemaker.
Peacemaker season 1 revolves around a team of agents looking to stop a mysterious alien invasion and save the world.
With the show now taking place in a connected universe, and Rick Flag Sr out for revenge, we're up for some excellent television.
The first season was some of the best of James Gunn's genius, and with the budget and the stakes rising, I'm excited to see the performance John Cena brings to this one.
4. Fantastic Four: First Steps
I didn't put it fourth on purpose, I swear.
After decades of waiting, we are finally getting a proper Fantastic Four film.
Little is known about this film, but with Galactus as the main villain, and retro futuristic 60s vibe, this film feels like a huge distinct swing, and nothing get's me more excited than that.
The cast looks phenomenal, the costumes look perfect, and I am just giddy thinking of them joining the Avengers in the next Avengers film.
3. Superman
My most anticipated film of next year, James Gunn will be taking on the Man of Steel himself Superman in 2026.
With an incredible cast, director, and several ties to the Justice League, Authority, and hopefully more, this film is crucial in setting the tone for the DCU moving forward, and maybe superhero films in general.
Whether this is a success or failure, this will be a turning point.
2. Daredevil Born Again
My boy has returned.
A sequel to Daredevil, Daredevil Born Again finds Matt Murdock back in NY city, with new enemies and old looking to take over Hell's Kitchen.
Daredevil is one of my favorite television series, and with so many characters returning from the original, including Kingpin, Punisher, Bullseye, Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, this season is going to be explosive.
I'm hoping it has direct connections to Echo, Moon Knight, and other street level heroes, perhaps leading up to another crack at Defenders. Whatever the case, this could be the best show of the year. And it would be my number 1, if it wasn't for...
1. Invincible Season 3
He's in for the fight of his life.
With the stakes higher than ever, an incredible voice cast, animation to beat and a performance unlike any other from Steven Yeun, Invincible has continued to surprise and top itself.
After Mark Grayson gains his Viltrumite powers, he must become Invincible, and find out the ups and the massive downs of being the worlds most powerful hero.
With _______ coming for a huge one on one, a massive war on the rise, and massive repercussions from the finale, this season is all I can think of for next year.
And thank god there will be no massive breaks in-between the season.
Thank you for reading! If you like this, be sure to follow me on all my socials here! And let me know what you think: What is your most anticipated superhero project of 2025?

The "Echo" Chamber - Another Marvel/BH6 Character Discussion
So for those of you who may not be in the know, Echo is dropping on Disney+ today. Now, a lot of people have varying amounts of Marvel Fatigue and may not be interested in this series, but I will actually be super interested in how they handle the protagonist herself.
Because you see, I'm a big fan of Maya Lopez.
Not necessarily the MCU one...
But the comic one.
So here's a little backstory into the superhero known as Echo.
One of her defining characteristics (whether it's a good thing or not) is that she is one of the few deaf characters in Marvel comics. What she lacks in hearing she more than makes up for in her fighting abilities, as she has the same ability as Taskmaster: to replicate any movement or action perfectly while only seeing it once. With that, she's one of the best fighters in the entire Marvel universe.
Her father worked for Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin, and after being in his employ for a long time, Fisk kills him. William makes him promise to take care of her daughter, which he does. After shooting him, Maya finds him, but not before leaving the trademark handprint of his blood on her face.
Fisk would take Maya in, sender her off to a gifted school, and trained her with her skills. He would later convince her that Matt Murdock (Daredevil) was the one who killed her father. After several issues in the 1999 run of Daredevil, secrets would be revealed, and Maya would blind Fisk by shooting out both of his eyes.
And you though my version of Kate was crazy.
After going on a personal quest to find herself, Maya would later get recruited into the New Avengers on the recommendation of Matt. She used the guise of Ronon (a former alias of Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye). Over the years, she played a central part in the New Avengers run and the events World War Hulk and Secret Invasion, being one of the first to discover that Jessica Drew was a Skrull.
Later, she moved to LA and went undercover before having to blow said cover to save Moon Knight. They teamed up together to take down the Kingpin of LA, but not before she was killed by Count Nefaria.
Of course, we know that being dead means literally nothing in the Marvel universe, and she shows up alive and well taking down another attempt of a villain taking over NYC.
For a while, Maya was out of action, not appearing in comics for almost five years.
And then?
Well.
And then entered the Phoenix.
"Enter The Phoenix" was a story arc in the 2018 Avengers run that saw heroes and villains alike in a "competition" to see who would wield the power of the Phoenix. I put that in quotes because it wasn't really much of a battle; the Avengers figured out there were other things going on.
But it didn't really matter in the end because guess who ended up with the power of the Phoenix?
Well it wouldn't be much of a Echo write-up if she didn't get it, now would it?
Alas, she wouldn't have the powers for long. After a less-than-well received mini-series (Echo: Phoenix Song), she helped the Avengers with the Multiversal Masters of Evil and the Council of Red. She used up the power to help heal the verses destroyed by the God Quarry.
And...that's kind of where we're at with her.
(Also, I know there were about twenty words and phrases that may not make any sense whatsoever, so you might want to take up the opportunity to read her comic before proceeding.)
Now I know what you're saying. "Jason, how on Earth are you going to make this about Big Hero 6? We already know you didn't think of her when you wrote that blog post about other potential team members you were thinking about."
...True.
But Riri, Nadia, America, Alison, and Cindy were not the only people that were considered.
They were just the only ones who got logos.
A Cheyenne deaf teenage girl with super memory powers and an ability to kick your butt sixty ways to San Fransokyo? Not to mention a (varying level of) permanent handprint on her face? You bet your patootie that she was on that list.
The problem, as many of the previous people were, was a way to integrate them into the mythos. Her main adversaries (Daredevil and Kingpin) are nowhere to be seen. Fisk is a NY guy too; unless he finds his way to SF for some reason, he wouldn't fit that well.
You'd have to find some other way to get her in. Who do we know that is a superb fighter that can also swordplay.
They also would probably be equally ruthless and not afraid of having to do what it take to achieve their goal.
...Oh.
Oh dear.
How about the daughter of a kingpin?
(Marvel's Echo airs all five episodes tonight on Disney+.)
