The idea that uni protesters are "elitist ivy-league rich kids larping as revolutionaries" on Twitter and Reddit and even here is so fucking funny to me if you actually know anything about the student bodies at these unis. Take it from someone who's going to one of the biggest private unis in the US, 80% of the peers I know are either from the suburbs or an apartment somewhere in America, children of immigrants, or here on a student visa. I've heard about one-percenter students, but I've never met one in person. Like, don't get me wrong, the institution as a whole is still very privileged and white. I've talked with friends and classmates about feeling weird or dissonant being here and coming from such a different background. But in my art program, I see BIPOC, disabled, queer, lower-income students and faculty trying to deconstruct and tear that down and make space every day. So to take a cursory glance at a crowd of student protesters in coalitions that are led by BIPOC & 1st/2nd-gen immigrant students and HQ'd in ethnic housings and student organizations and say, "ah. children of the elite." Get real.

#also idk how to tell you this but even if it were true. wealthy children potentially sacrificing their educational careers to protest is #a good thing actually. idk how to tell you that caring about people from other nations is good #personal #“this war has nothing to do with most students cuz nobody's getting drafted” idk how to explain to you that we should be angry #that our tuitions of 10s of thousands of dollars that we pay every year for an education is being used to fund a genocidal campaign #also the implication that if you go to a uni institution you are automatically privileged by participation no matter your bg #i didn't /want/ to go to this school. i was supposed to go to a school with an art/animation program. but i realized my immigrant #parents have been working their whole lives to get me here. and turning the opportunity down would be a disservice to their sacrifice #this is getting into convos of “what 2nd gen kids owe their parents” which is different for everyone but. yeah #i just get pissed off at seeing people misrepresenting student bodies as “wealthy” and “privileged” and “elite” when it's such a blatant li #i remember a year ago a friend told me they can't fly home to hong kong for winter break because the plane tickets are too expensive #so they have to find temporary housing around the area #last quarter for a film doc class my film partner made a doc on a small group of marxist grad students from india discussing praxis #during a rally a few months ago in response to police presence the coalition invited palestinian students to speak about their experiences #and lead songs and read poems they wrote. these are STUDENTS. are they elitist too?#this is not to disregard my own personal privilege either.#this whole narrative's just to rationalize a lack of empathy to me. seeing a 19yo student get shot by a rubber bullet and your first #reaction is “HAW! HAW! bet richy rich didn't see THAT coming when she put on her terrorist hood!”#newsflash. these big uni campuses are HAUNTED by the violence of past protests and revolutions and police brutality. we know.#why do you think these coalitions have been making reinforced barricades at record speed

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Midst is a perfectly-paced show. I know the story arcs are largely outlined, but it is actually astounding how flawless the pacing is given the improv aspect. It's clearly created by people who understand on an intrinsic level when and how plot points need to land in order for it to flow smoothly. Absolute chef's kiss, infinity/10, perfect pacing, no notes because I am in fact taking notes.

#like i do think i am decent at pacing overall but god i want to dissect this plot just to study it #i am in all ways but physical capturing it in a jar with holes in the lid and fervently documenting its movements #midst podcast #there's not really spoilers in this cuz this is an evergreen post it just remains true #god i want to really break this down but it's like. idk man. something something look at it it's on the ceiling #(i do think that should become part of the Tumblr vernacular for when something is just so intrinsic that how do you explain it #if you don't get it you're not gonna get it i can't explain it to you you just have to get it)#did just realize that i started this and the mother trauma post the same way lmao #it's almost like the consistency of this show is spurred by its flawless pacing

new thing from the halloween update! They're called void masques i'm not sure if it's just for halloween or if it's a permanent feature actually but i think it's here to stay

basically it's those mask things! they spawn when rifts are activated in a world around nightmare fissure if i understood correctly? But basically those things will possess mobs and can even possess you the player if you die!

and apparently the characters have quotes for seeing their own possessed corpse, maxwell's says "Jack? Wait, no." ( thank you plushee for giving everyone the quotes when the wiki isn't updated yetttt )

#i'm saying APPARENTLY because i am TERRIBLE at don't starve and have never gotten to the rift thing #and i've tried everything but i'm just too stupid cuz making em spawn with commands doesnt seem to work #or at least idk the command to do it #forcing a rift to spawn is nice but i got unlucky and got other thralls than that one so huhh yeah idk #at some point i managed to get its mask appear on my face and like talk somehow??? idfk how i did that and cant replicate it so idfk #so while i sadly can't provide a screenshot of it the quote EXISTS in the files and that is GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME i gave up seeing it ingame #huhh yeah thats all i got to say #dst #i heavily reccomend people to go read the quotes regarding them it's alot of fun ngl #i'm a big dumdum so sorry for no in game screen of the quote oopsy

so I understand why Burrich married Molly etc etc, but I think it's a stretch to say that he didn't do *anything* wrong with that whole thing... like he literally made Fitz go into Nighteyes, then pulled him back and brought him back to normal and as soon as he and Chade know that Verity lives they basically tell him "well fuck that peaceful quiet life you think you want, you're a horrible person if you don't go to Verity now" after Fitz already gave up his life once and when he reacts with a big outburst afterwards (literally after running off with his wolf first) they just decide to abandon him. He had only been himself for a short period of time. He was still so vulnerable, to being attacked or to returning to his blurred wit-bond for relief. He's obviously not feeling fine. Also he's at risk for being executed if anyone recognized him alive. At the very, very least, Burrich owed it to Fitz to stay with him until Nettle was born, and then tell him about his and Molly's daughter.

But of course then Fitz wouldn't have saved the world, so that couldn't happened -- but yeah Burrich messed up, and considering that he and Molly had both left him and not told him about his daughter, Fitz had every reason to think that returning would only screw up the happy family he wanted his daughter to have. His reasons were probably even more valid than Chivalry's reasons. He has every right to be quietly angry with and hurt by Burrich, especially since he still loves him and never voices those feelings in a way that weaponizes them.
