They finally found him!! Or well at least where he is. And damn Frederick :( Someone give him therapy fr. He really needs one. I'm so glad the LeoMieCake found him on time because.. imagine what he would've done if they hadn't found him.. You know, isolation can really do some stuffs to you, especially if you've gone through some trauma/experience that can cause your emotions to be unstable. That's why I've been so worried about Frederick since it was revealed he was imprisoned in the that hole by Leland.

LAVERNE 😭 I know she's been pretty hated since the punishment episode, but damn gotta thank her right now. You know, I've been curious about the architecture of the Plaid Kingdom because I was thinking "That's a hole.. but it has a holey roof..??? Where the heck is this dungeon located in exactly?" And now I got my answer. Imagine being the maid/butler just cleaning around like "that hole over there? Yeah that's normal it's for flood"

Isolde :( I can heavily relate with running away from problems and just sitting back. And man I'm so happy Isolde talked to Frederick too and even apologized for using him to ruin Leland's plan. Gosh damn this whole family is in such a bad state just because Leland is so petty. I will never get over that. Saw your post on Frederick in tangled. I was curious about your thoughts on quirin. He tried to warn Frederick about why he shouldn't have removed the golden flower and knew about those rocks. I get the feeling that while he also didn't have a plan? He did have faith in how the problem would sort itself out and in his new home. He did survive the fall of the dark kingdom afterall. Also Edmund is probably the better of the two kings. What do you think?

Yes finally. Finally an excuse to go off on more Tangled dads on Tumblr other than just Frederic.

I say this of course, but Quirin isn’t nearly as bad as Frederic, but I honestly think that’s mostly because he wasn’t given enough screen time or attention. Like his actions are more reasonable to an extent because he is only in charge of a town rather than a whole dang kingdom but I question what kind of ship he runs if none of the other members of Old Corona ever brought up the state of their homes to the captial (or maybe they did and Frederic shipped them off to keep their silence, who knows). In any case, yeah. Quirin having less power and a much more accident prone kid, as well as him being a direct victim of the dark rocks power in the past makes him a much more sympathetic character than Frederic.

Granted, I STILL have some major issues with him. He like most other dads in the show (with Captain and maybe the Baron being exceptions) he doesn’t show his kid, Varian, respect. I can understand it to an extent, again because Varian is extremely reckless at the beginning, but what really rubbed me the wrong way is how he would ordered Varian to trust him, yet he doesn’t even offer anything in return for that trust. Varian gave him a valid arguement against trusting him because he literally just saw him lie in court, but he just gets shut down without even explaining anything.

Another issue I have with Quirin is that despite his overprotective nature, he is still implied to be neglectful, sometimes to dengerous degrees. Like, I totally get him not always being there because he is the leader of Old Corona. I can accept that, but again my acceptance can only be stretched so far. At one point Old Corona is in the process of being completely overrun by the black rocks and he just…. lets Varian isolate himself in his lab? Does Quirin even know that a decent amount of black rocks sprouted there? He keeps telling Varian to stay away from the rocks, but other than ordering him around and scolding him after catching him in the act, he doesn’t do much to keep Varian away from them. Heck, he heard a loud bang sound coming from his son’s lab, the same son who nearly blew up the whole village not too long ago, and a book + a sheet is enough to delay the confrontation?

Don’t get me wrong though, it’s clear he genuinely cares about his son’s actual wellbeing (as opposed to Frederic who is just interested in keeping a fake state of safety until the bitter end) since he at least is constantly shown to worry over Varian, a bit too subtly for my taste, but I’m willing to chalk it up to him just being a really reserved character in the first place. Quirin is also a WAY better leader of his people than Frederic because unlike Frederic, Quirin legit had plans to at least evacuate his people.

Then again, I think his methods of handling the rocks in Old Corona isn’t him having faith in the problem being solved; quite the opposite in fact. Quirin’s a refugee from the Dark Kingdom who was forced to flee from the rocks before. He is simply doing it again. While he is better at handling things than Frederic, it is still a very temporary solution to a serious problem. Quirin gave up on the Dark Kingdom and left, so he is doing the same with Old Corona due to his experience. This is arguably the major conflict between him and Varian because Quirin lacks the will to fight for his home because he already lived through losing it to this same threat, meanwhile Varian has the will to save his home, but lacks the perspective because Quirin refuses to share.

Of course, much like with Frederic, I want to like Quirin a lot more than I do. All of what I stated before wouldn’t normally be actual criticisms I had to his character because having flaws is what makes a character more interesting in my problem. However, they are legit criticisms because his character stops before any of those issues are addressed in any sort of way. He gets himself fossilized by protecting Varian, then he is just reduced to a smiling background character who occasionally gets a “I’m proud of you, son” for the writers to reassure us that he is in fact alive inside for the most part. Heck, I would make the argument that in the last season Quirin is made out to be an even more neglectful father because he doesn’t even visibly show any concern for Varian anymore. His son legit got kidnapped by some crazy girl who stole the thing that destroyed his old home and nearly destroyed his new one and the only scene we get of him afterwards before the finale is him just pruning pumpkins. Not showing any care to your child at all isn’t the answer to overprotectiveness!

We never get his feelings over his home getting overtaken by black rocks once again. We never see Quirin make any real attempt to bridge the emotional gap between himself and Varian. We never even see him her a line between himself, his former fellow brotherhoods member, and his king. Much like how Frederic was reduced to the stupid dad trope in S3, Quirin is reduced to a shallow supportive becakground dad despite the show trying to build him up to be something more in both the end of Before Ever After and in the Dark Kingdom storyline. To me, Quirin so just the personification of TTS’ bad habit of promising interesting concepts and never delivering them.

As for Edmund, I’ll try to make this quick because gosh Quirin took long. King wise, I have little to no issue with Edmund’s character. He wanted to protect his kingdom even if it meant sacrificing his place in his son’s life. Unlike Frederic, he seems to actually at least try to keep the damage from spreading out, even if it’s most definitely impossible on his own for the most part, but I can appreciate the effort. So yeah, a MUCH better king than Frederic, but the best king of them all is Trevor. Of course, I have a LOT more issues with Edmund as a FATHER rather than a king, but I think I’ll cut myself off there since you just asked about my thoughts on him as a ruler and also because this answer has become an essay and half.

I gave up, because I realized this kind of song is a bit rare, and I give you a song that is 30% screaming, LEAVE ME ALONE! Which is a whole mood. There's also a lot here about mental health, discussed in a brutally honest way, and it's just an amazing song about self-isolation. It's a really neat commentary on self-doubt, too, especially from music artists who get pretty famous. The whole song is just an entire vibe, and I love every second of it. It's really great for those days you want to kind of shove your head under a pillow and just stay there. It's really nice for that. Yeah. Definitely haven't done that, myself. Heh.

Tiny Daichi is so cute! Poor tiny OiSuga, what a bad year for them. If they became friends during the first year, who knows what would have happened. But Oikawa had Iwaizumi while Suga was alone for the first two years. Was Daichi so shy that he couldn't talk to him? And about betting pool for the ball... I read your answer: "Oikawa/Suga vs. Suga/Daichi: who's dating who" and "there's definitely more than a professor betting on polyamory" Who ships OiSugaDai (or whatever it's)? Ukai Jr? Irihata?

Tiny!Daichi definitely did talk to him (they were often partnered up in Charms and Herbology, actually). A large part of Suga’s isolation during the first few years actually didn’t come entirely from outside forces (as in people bullying him, though there were definitely whispers), it largely came from Suga not feeling comfortable getting close to people because he was so very cautious of them thinking he was like his family. Really, Suga opening up (or well, eavesdropping) in the first book/his third year was him consciously taking a stand to be less shy and face his fear of rejection...and it might’ve helped that the task in question was purposefully opposed to his family’s former actions (investigating a teacher who seemed to be prejudiced against muggleborns).

Oh, gosh, let me pull up my professors list. Okay, so a note just because I’ve been a teaching assistant before and think it’s weird (to beyond weird, given the case) for teachers to get overly involved in their student’s love life.Most of the professors are here are doing this for fun/ as a joke and are not in anyway actually involved in this. It’s more like teacher lounge talk/ complaints that they made a pool for fun on.

Irihata (Potions/Slytherin House Head): Abstaining from this specific pool since 2 out of 3 are students in his House (...there might’ve been some discussion on whether that gave him an unfair advantage). Interestingly enough, if I was going to do something like the second task, I think the other headmasters would let Irihata chose who Oikawa’s person should be.

Shimada (Herbology): all his Galleons on Suga/Daichi because he has seen Oikawa nearly poison himself way, way too many times in Herbology (only to be saved last minute by Iwaizumi) and Suga not even stop talking to Daichi--he knows Suga and Oiakwa are deinitely not dating.

Oiwake (Quidditch): Abstaining because he doesn’t know any of them well enough

Takinoue (Magical Creatures): Technically has only ever had a class with Daichi but loves some petty drama (also runs the pool in conjunction with Professor Yamiji). His moneys on Oikawa/Suga after a messy, heartbreaking breakup of Suga/Daichi (not going to happen fyi), specifically he’s betting on this for their graduation. He’s been watching waaaaaay too many wizard dramas lately.

Nekomata (Healing): In it for the sheer amusement and as a joint action with Headmaster Ukai to annoy Keishin Ukai. Oikawa/Dacihi...he doesn’t believe this but he enjoys how frustrated Keishin looked about the whole thing.

Onikobe (Divination): NOT ALLOWED TO BET ANYMORE! Suga/Daichi, adamant about this, others are still pissed because they think he has an edge because of the whole divination thing (which he does, he’s right 4 out of 5 times which is incredibly impressive for divination...if you’re not Akaashi)

Naoi (History of Magic): Suga/Oikawa but they can’t admit it from pressure from Suga’s family and Daichi’s knowingly being a frontman for them...this is entirely Suga and Oikawa’s fault because they got really bored in this class one time and made it up in notes they were passing back and forth (Suga’s Muggle Studies class happened to be reading Romeo and Juliet at the time). The notes got intercepted by Naoi...they tried to explain later it was a joke and he didn’t believe them (but he also felt so sympathetic for their “tragic love” that he let them out of detention)

Mizoguchi (Astronomy): Oikawa/Iwaizumi--the rest of the teachers think he’s crazy.

Oomizu (Runes): Oikawa/Kuroo and Suga/Daichi. To be fair, he did have Oikawa and Kuroo in the height of their school grades bet in their fifth year where Suga was highkey pretending he didn’t know them while they were in classes together because they were both insane

Yamiji (Arithmancy): Suga/Daichi/Oikawa because mathematically it means he’s at least slightly right however it turns out.

Anabara (Muggle Studies): Daichi/Suga, he has seen them flirt in his class, he knows things he already wishes he didn’t so he’d at least like some money out of this whole betting pool thing.

Keishin Ukai (Charms): Thinks the pool is dumb and unprofessional and is so dang annoyed that his old man grandfather and Nekomata are in on it! Ugh, he should’ve taken that job at Mahoutokoro School of Magic, he swears!

Ikkei Ukai (Headmaster): Suga/Daichi/Oikawa...because it will annoy the shit out of Keishin.

Takeda (Transfiguration): oh, um, he just wants all of them to be happy :)

Bonus: Matsu and Makki (Keishin Ukai: Why are they even in this pool?! They’re students! Takeda: *sigh* they blackmailed Takinoue to let them in. Ukai: THEY WHAT?!): Are so glad they have the privilege of getting in on this pool. See, what actually happened is that Oikawa was in love with Suga meanwhile Daichi had been pining after Suga for years. Then, the year that Daichi was going to ask him out, a giant monster attacked the school trying to defend Suga from romantic advances, Suga tried to protect his friends but then Oikawa got petrified trying to save him (they sell this as a big dramatic act of love), then the monster kidnapped Daichi and hid him deep within the walls so, Suga using Oikawa’s last piece of advice before he died (er, we mean was petrified) found and defeated the monster and singlehandedly saved Daichi before they had a very passionate and romantic moment in a hidden chamber made by the founder Slytherin himself. By the time Oikawa woke up, he realized his beloved had moved on and decided he only wanted to see him happy. And that’s totally and completely the real epic tale of Suga/Daichi/Oikawa, trust us, we’d know!

On a related note, Suga occasionally talks in his sleep and Matsu and Makki are very good at putting together the pieces.

Dang no end credit or mid credit scene

Wow this was a crazy episode. Some parts I loved, some parts I was very much not happy with. Mostly the scene with president Loki. I hoped that would be much longer and that it would play more into the overall story, not just a throwaway scene to reference a comic and have a quick laugh. I’m fine with alligator Loki biting off that Loki’s hand, but not with the childish scream afterwards… that felt very out of character.

Can’t wait for the final episode!!! Nothing better happen to Loki or Sylvie. I hope we get to see the other Lokis again. I also want to know more about kid Loki and black Loki. Why did kid Loki kill Thor and how? What’s up with black Loki and what was his nexus event? We didn’t even get to learn about his hammer. I’m fine with not learning about alligator Loki. It’s fine to have that be a fun mystery imo. It was funny seeing throg very briefly too. But I have too many questions that I know won’t be answered in only one more episode which is disappointing. Maybe we can learn more in the supposedly confirmed season two? I hope so. I’m really curious about how they are going to wrap things up and what the fates of everyone will be. I hope this isn’t an isolated event that doesn’t tie into phase four at all. I really want Loki in Multiverse of Madness. Not just Sylvie although idk if we can get both of them in, but I don’t want this show to be Sophia Di Martino’s only appearance in the MCU.

I trust tom Hiddleston but I know marvel doesn’t always allow him to shine through as much as he could. I’m so hopeful for this show but my anxiety is also skyrocketing.

Ooooo, this sounds like a lot of fun; please excuse me as I go tf off with my own personal headcanons and possibly get everything about the characters wrong! Also don’t worry, it hasn’t been asked before, and I LOVE coming up with new headcanons from your asks, my pal!

Engineer: Monatophobia, the fear of dying alone. I very much headcanon that he’s experienced a lot of death in his life, starting when he was a very young child, so now he tends to get overly attached to the people in his life, especially the rest of the team once they start socializing with each other more. When he gets particularly anxious about this fear, he’ll try and be around the rest of the team more. Only Medic, Pyro, and Soldier know of his fear.

Demoman: Agoraphobia, the fear of open spaces or large crowds. He was traumatized as a young child after he got lost at a busy festival for several hours, during which there was an emergency, and in the ensuing chaos he was nearly trampled to death. As an adult, he’s not quite as afraid of these things as he used to be, but he still hates to fight in too open of spaces against the enemy team. Only Medic, Heavy, and Soldier know of his fear.

Soldier: Equinophobia, the fear of horses. It’s... a long story. In short, as a kid he got to go horse riding with one of his older cousins for the day, but the horse he was put on ended up not only running loose (with him still on it), but it fell into a ditch and died from the fall, leaving Soldier with a broken arm and leg. In the aftermath, he felt responsible for the horse’s death, but he’s also deathly afraid of them to this day, and refuses to go near one. Only Medic, Sniper, and Demoman know of his fear.

Medic: Lilapsophobia, the fear of tornadoes/hurricanes, as well as Astraphobia, the fear of thunder/lightning. In all honesty, Medic has no gosh dang idea where his phobia came from, but ever since he was a little kid he’s been absolutely terrified of storms. He’s actually tried going to specialized therapy for his phobias, but seeing as no doctor can find the root of it, it’s been unsuccessful so far. He’s given up on curing it by now, but he still gets embarrassed when thunder makes him scream and freak out. Only Heavy knows of his fears.

Heavy: Pathophobia, the fear of disease. Seeing as he and his family had to live in such isolation for a long period of his life, the threat of an illness going through the family and killing them all was a very real fear in young Heavy’s mind, and as a result he gets really paranoid about the people he loves getting sick, as he fears that sickness = death; it’s a good thing his boyfriend is a doctor! Only Medic and Spy know of his fear.

Pyro: Insectophobia, the fear of insects. Much like Medic, they don’t know when they developed this phobia, but it’s haunted them since they were a teenager, causing them to run away in a frenzy if they see a bug (especially if it’s flying at them). In all honesty, their suit makes them feel a lot calmer around bugs, so that they don’t just up and run when they see one, but they’ll still get anxious/start squirming like crazy if it doesn’t go away. Only Medic, Sniper, and Engineer know of their fear.

Sniper: Nosocomephobia, the fear of hospitals. I headcanon that he grew up in foster care for at least a few years before being adopted by his folks, so he was dragged to hospitals a lot whenever he got even slightly hurt, as social workers needed to make sure he wasn’t being abused. As a result, he’s now deathly afraid of hospitals, as to him, hospitals = something very bad is happening. Only Medic, Spy, and Pyro know of his fear.

Spy: Atychiphobia, the fear of failure, and Trypanophobia, the fear of needles. He thinks he acquired his first phobia as a little kid, after dealing with so much pressure to be successful from the adults in his life, while his next fear was developed while he was captured and tortured by a mad doctor for a few months early into his work as a spy. He was primarily tortured with needles during his imprisonment, sparking this newfound phobia; his fear is so bad, he’ll go into hiding when Medic tries to draw blood/give him his vaccinations. Only Medic, Scout, and Sniper know of his fears.

Scout: Claustrophobia, the fear of small spaces. When he was a fairly young child- about four or five years old- he was playing with his older brothers one day, and they decided to play hide ‘n seek. Being so small, he decided to hide in a briefcase... which accidentally locked him inside after it closed. It took a lot of work to get him out, his mom having to use a hacksaw on the lock to break it, and afterwards he was scared shitless of confined spaces, so much so that he’ll genuinely hyperventilate until he passes out if he’s locked in a small space of any kind. Only Medic, Spy, and Pyro know of his fear.

BONUS Miss Pauling: Ophidiophobia, the fear of snakes. She was born with this fear, hightailing it since she was a kid from any sort of snake, even tiny gardener snakes! She’s very embarrassed by her fear, and tries to hide it from the people she knows, and usually she can, but... well, now everyone on RED knows after the time that a snake got into the base while she was visiting them for something, and she literally passed out when she saw it. Afterwards they all agreed not to pester her about it, on the grounds that she didn’t deserve to be teased for something out of her control. She still doesn’t know remember that day at all.

wow antavriel’s story is actually really fussing sad ahahahaha oh my gosh

literally was so gosh dang happy. full of life and wonder and so so SO excited to do fun things!!!! and spend time with his stars!!!! and his brother!!!!!! and live and love and learn and be and do and ahhh!!!! so excited!!! so loving and gentle!!! protecting and watching over, kind and forgiving like none other!

and then the corruption happened. and everything was torn apart in him, he went through the most horrible pain and suffering hes ever felt in his entire life all by himself, in the dark. and then he felt it slowly take over his mind and soul, eating him alive.

and now he does these awful awful things, because of this corruption. it’s not antavriel, it’s not him doing this. it’s a black hole, it’s a void, taking the curious, loving most wonderful parts of him and molding him to fit its little glass. turning him into a monster, all so it can have a home. nice and warm, so so warm. mindless control. mindless hunger. this isn’t antavriel, it’s anti.

and when he gets his light back, and the darkness is casted out, what is left? a star, who is left knowing that he killed his own people. he killed stars, he killed humans, he killed anything and everything he COULD kill. torturing and hating and devouring, just as he was devoured.

but it wasn’t antavriel. it wasn’t him, it was the corruption, it wasn’t his fault. he never asked to be torn away from his twin, he never asked to feel his body be ripped apart, he never asked for any of it.

but poor antavriel. he won’t see it that way, he won’t see that he was out of his mind, he won’t see that these things weren’t him, these actions weren’t his own but the corruption’s hunger and need for blood and power and death. he won’t see it, and neither will anyone else except marvin. and even when they turn the universe back, saving all the stars and people and antavriel, saving the universe from tipping over because the sky was falling apart with anti’s presence.... he still won’t see it. and sure, they saved them all, antavriel and morilius and the the royals of the milky way and any other galaxy they keep. they saved the universe! they saved antavriel!

but everytime antavriel looks at his brother, or chase, or johnny or sille or the cashier at the gas station who looks like she hadn’t gotten sleep in six days, all he hears is pain. all he sees is the blood on his hands, and it tears him apart. the only thing he can do to cope is to isolate himself and smother all his friends in kindness and love and beg and beg and BEG his brother to take away those horrible memories.

((Oh gosh, I'm going to try not to ramble too much here. Failed step one, whoops. Callie is pretty dang fond of Cath, all things considered. It's been said before, but initially he reminded her of both her Best Friend and her Moirail, something that quickly endeared her to him. Unfortunately, it also was a big reason she felt she should probably keep emotional distance from him, truth be told* She's luckily since gotten to know him quite a bit better, even if it's mostly just through observing him on her dash, and feels more comfortable with their friendship. She does want to know him better though. Much better if possible! And she does see him as one of her only friends who are still around. She's just really bad at actually reaching out anymore. It's actually kind of funny, though, he'll have been around for three years come September and she's been following since day one but she still admittedly sees him as one of her newest friends. She finds him to be charming, and funny, and sweet. And intimidating sometimes too, but in the same way she found her best friend and moirail intimidating, not because he was an Angel of Death. Actually, that part hardly phases her, other than the fact "hey he's an angel too! angel bUddy!!!" She kinda thrives interacting with/befriending folks with those sort of heavy titles. Generally they're villains, so Cath is a breath of fresh air in that regard. He also loves his Pokemon! And that means a whole lot to Callie, not just cause she got them for him, but she holds Pokemon in a really high regard. So anyone who cherishes their Pokemon already just becomes like 111% more awesome in her book. Also, that whole venture of getting him AZ and the keychain from Alola kind of sealed the deal of their friendship in her eyes. She had been confused back then why she agreed to get him a keychain of all things, but the fact he had even asked or was encouraging her about her trip at all had really had an impact on her. She kind of isolated herself away from anyone but her moirail earlier that year. Speaking of, that's one of her biggest regrets with Davara not really being around anymore. She really wants them to meet Cath sometime because she just KNOWS they'd get along so great! At least, she likes to think they would. *I should probably go ahead and cut this off, but there's one more thing under the cut that technically doesn't apply anymore. But it did apply at one point so uh I'm gonna include it!

So, Callie doesn't interact with Davesprites. Period. She might follow one every now and again, but she will go out of her way not to interact with them. Her (currently deceased) Best Friend is a Davesprite, one who was really insecure about being replaced by alts or other sprites. So out of respect of his feelings in case he ever ends up revived, again, as well as a fear of how she'd feel about herself if she ever did find herself feeling like that hole in her heart was filled by someone else. She just. Refused to interact with them. (Also she couldn't garentee she wouldn't crush on 'em and man. She can't handle crushes. She just can't.) But, there was just something about Cath, from his very first introduction, that just..... had her bending her own rule. Something friendly and exciting, and admittedly way too familiar. Yet very different, and new, and she really wanted to see where he'd go.  She's really glad she bent that rule, even if it doesn't really apply anymore. Can you like -- write a long post about why you love EdWin so much? I was just reading one of my favorite fics about them and now I need someone to gush about this ship. That someone being you ofc since I know you love them just as much as I do!

I’m not very good at long posts because I’m a short, sweet, and to the point kind of person, but I’ll do my best!

I love Edwin so much. Like...it’s kinda weird how much I clung to the ship, especially when I entered the series just expecting to casually ship them.

I knew they were canon. Everyone and their mothers know it unless they have completely isolated themselves from FMA related stuff. So upon first reading the series I had the mindset of, “Okay, Edwin is the endgame ship. Whatever.”

Then I get to Winry’s debut chapter and see Ed’s reaction to her when she told him she’d fix his automail so he can get to Central:

And I was like, “Oh... they’re gonna be canon...”

And I didn’t just casually stroll up to this ship, no, I POLE VAULTED ONTO IT!

LIKE HELL YES, SIGN ME THE FUCK UP FOR THIS VOYAGE!

I just love their interactions so much. They bicker and fight (price of being friends since diapers), but they don’t resent each other at all. They have a deep connection to each other and genuinely love and respect each other.

Yeah, Ed can be a little shit to her sometimes, but I compare it to a typical teenage boy FURIOUSLY trying NOT to let people know he has a crush on a pretty girl.

He rolls his eyes about her automail fixation, but he knows she puts so much hard work into her automail he’ll openly brag about it. And he gets onto her for crying, but it’s mostly the fact that it’s Ed’s fault that’s she’s crying.

He can be so soft toward her, “You hands are meant to give life,” anyone? And the the main reason he tried so hard not to die with the big-ass I beam impaled through him was because it would SUCK if Winry CRIED OVER IT. That wouldn’t be COOL at all!

On Winry’s end, I just love how devoted she is to him (Al too). She patiently waits for the brothers to come home, and while she gets onto Ed for breaking his automail she hops right into it to fix it because she’s made that her job. She can’t join the military but by golly she can help Ed stand. She’s so passionate about helping him she goes to Rush Valley to better her skills.

SHE GOES UP NORTH BECAUSE SHE KNEW HER STUPID BOYFRIEND WOULDN’T KNOW TO CHANGE HIS GOSH DANG AUTOMAIL FOR COLD CLIMATES! (granted she was tricked into going BUT THE POINT STILL STANDS)

And Ed doesn’t treat Winry as a helpless person either. He knows she can take care of herself, so when she’s put into a dangerous situation and Winry knows of a way out of it, he listens to her and allows her to do what she thinks is right.

RESPECT IN A RELATIONSHIP IS AMAZING!

AND THEY’RE SO FREAKING AWKWARD! Winry does fine enough (”lmao I love my childhood friend nbd”), but Ed...Ed will growl and snarl at the fucking Fuhrer for daring to lay a hand on Winry, but can’t handle his romantic feelings for her lest he go into a periodic table meltdown!

They’re such dorks but I love dorks in love so it’s like a winner winner chicken dinner for me!

And finally the last chapter. Ed’s home and I’m sure all that time between coming home from the Promise Day and leaving for the West was him calculating the perfect time to tell Winry he maybe-kinda-sorta is in love with her??? And he just skips every step in the book and PROPOSES TO HER IN THE NERDIEST ALCHEMY WAY POSSIBLE!

AND WINRY ROLLS WITH IT, CALLS HIM A DUMMY, AND TELLS HIM SHE’LL BE RIDE OR DIE FOR HIM!

IT’S SO GLORIOUS! MADE MORE PERFECT THAT HIS TRIP TO THE WEST IS CUT SHORT SO THEY CAN HAVE THEIR WEDDING (THEY GET MARRIED THE SAME YEAR ED LEAVES FOR THE WEST, FACT CHECK ME I DARE YOU)

TumblrFrostbite's AU Question: If Harvey Dent NEVER had his face scarred, no thanks to unfortunate circumstances, how different would Harvey's life be if he's still a district attorney and ally of Batman and Gordon now? Note: This scenario could take place in any DC canon. ANY DC canon.

Ok. This is literally the first ask I ever got on this blog, and there’s a reason it took me so long to answer. This is like, a huge question. So apologies for putting it off so long, and I hope this answer satisfies, @frostbite883.

Note: there are a couple of my own assumptions in here, but don’t let that detract from the main point.Note Note: im on mobile and can’t create a cut off, so long text incoming.

Harvey Dent before getting scarred was a tenacious dumbass. He was the DA, and he did his very best to clean up the crime in Gotham, despite being threatened with bodily harm multiple times. This is the dude that purposefully snapped photos of known Mob people’s license plates, despite being warned Not To Do That by the Gotham crime families. Fuckin wild man.

He was like. Batman If Batman operated in the daytime and lawfully. As DA, he had a high conviction rate cause this guy!! Had!! Evidence!!! He was against wrongful convictions and he did his gosh dang best to keep criminals behind bars, and the innocent on the streets.

A regular rising star! He was insanely popular (amongst the normal, non criminal people), and he was a very good friend of Bruce Wayne. The world was his oyster. Then he got scarred and it all went to shit.

But suppose he didn’t get scarred? Suppose he didn’t have that mental break? Well let’s discuss.

Firstly, I don’t think he’d like. Immediately ascend to position of mayor or something like that. He’s a popular dude, but I genuinely believe that he would want to stay in law, where he could measure his own impact in the city. Conviction rates and evidence? That’s all tangible.

Harvey is a tangible dude for sure, let’s be real. Part of the character’s appeal is his intensely held beliefs of right and wrong. As his darker inclinations are not given a Literal Face like in canon, I think it’s fair to say that he’d still have a bit of an internal crisis morals wise.

The interesting thing about Two Face was that he wasn’t an alien. He wasn’t some dark force. He was Harvey, the parts of Harvey that he always tried to suppress. Just because Harvey wasn’t scarred doesn’t mean that Two Face wasn’t lurking beneath the surface.

So let’s break this down:1. Harvey Dent has a high profile, high pressure job. It’s hard for him to ‘turn off’ work mode- we know this because people close to him are constantly telling him to tone it down and take a dang break.2. We also know that the Sal Maroni case (where he was scarred in canon) was an especially important one. He would have been more stressed than usual.3. In this hypothetical scenario, we’re gonna say Maroni still attempted to throw acid on him. We’re also gonna say he’s either a terrible shot or Harv was just able to dodge the shit out of that.4. Either way, there was still an attempt on Harvey’s life. He’s already in the public eye (which can be stressful for anyone- Harvey included), and now that his case has been partially derailed by the shit show that is him almost dying. Not to mention the fact that he’s already under a lot of pressure to do well due to his position as a rising star who’s yet to have a scandal. That’s. Really overwhelming.5. Two Face’s appearance in canon is directly linked to Harvey’s own mental weakness (read: stressed as fuuuck), but he only got as much power as he did because he was physically there, a literal manifestation.

But for this AU, he’s not scarred. So let’s analyse this new behavior:1. He’d be irritable following the attack. Two Face is repressed emotion, and while he remains safely locked away his influence would still be felt. Harvey would probably be grappling between keeping up his public ‘golden boy’ persona, and dealing with an onslaught of negative emotions that of fucking course he’s feeling! Dude probably has some form of PTSD and I’m not even getting into that!2. His relationships with the people in his life would be strained. He and his wife (I don’t think they’re fighting or anything) are talking less, he’s isolating himself. He and Bruce are still friends, but Harvey would try to keep Bruce from worrying by over compensating how 'fine’ he feels. 3. He’d be reckless too. From the very beginning this man has been reckless but this takes it to a new level. His sense of self preservation is all over the place. He’s paranoid (that people will realize that he’s not as ok as he shows himself to be), but he’s taking tremendous risks all the time. His conviction rate goes up, as does his tendency to courtroom drama. Two Face was always the one with an eye for the ridiculous, and I think this seeps into this Harvey.

Eventually Bruce and the others close in his life are gonna meet up and be like: 'yo Harv’s acting bananas’. It’s intervention time.

So Bruce, Harv’s wife, Gordon, and some of the people in Harvey’s office trap him one day and there’s a huge intervention. Everyone can tell that Harv’s been off since the failed acid attack, and they’re worried as shit. Harvey would try to deflect and deny, but that wouldn’t last long.

The dude likely breaks down, and there’s a big group hug or some shit, and they all get Harvey to promise that he’ll go to therapy to deal with all of these things he’s feeling. And to to therapy he does! Cause his friends and family aren’t dicks and there’s no mental health stigma!

And then shit starts to look up. Harvey goes to see a therapist twice a week for a few months (and then once a week for longer after), and he learns healthy coping mechanisms. Two Face (or rather the emotions associated with him) are not repressed, but they’re dealt with in a manner that is healthy mentally.

Harvey starts to keep a journal or something so that he has an outlet for his emotions, he talks things through with people he trusts, he tones down some of his nonsense at the office and in court, and he works with Gorden and Batman when he has the time.

That’s another thing he works on- he has to learn not to overwork himself. He keeps a schedule. One day a week he forces himself not to do anything case related. Usually he spends it with his family or Bruce. Beyond that, he keeps the amount of cases he takes down to a sane level.

All of these things make for a healthier, happier, and more productive Harvey Dent. But Harvey does keep up his old tricks. He’s still after the crime families in Gotham, and he’s still dedicated to improving life in the city. He is by no means not a threat to the evil in the city.

Working with Gordon and Batman, the trio’s success rate for exposing and dealing with extreme criminals raises exponentially.

Maybe I’ll write something on the politics of that in another post, but I’m keeping this Harvey centered.

Tl;dr: Harvey Dent may avoid scarring, but Two Face is more than the scars. He’d have to go through therapy before reaching his full potential, especially after a life threatening even like an acid attack.

Quist is curled up in the corner, making noises of outrage— RAM: Officially, the Vanguard suggestion of quarantine was implemented and shortly afterwards reversed due to irreparable ineffectiveness. Unofficially, they laughed at Quist

Shun likes to tease. Quist likes to maintain his dignity, but has a little humor about it. Ramos is mostly The Serious One, but isn’t above joining in the joke.

SHU: I’m Liaison to the Vanguard. It’s my job. Besides, I’m irresistibly charming. RAM: Even if? SHU: Even if.

Something that went down between Shun and Ikora that EVERYONE in Owl Sector knows. Also, Shun is “irresistibly charming” and likes to say so.

RAM: Berriole found a trove of laboratory notes in a locked section of the Dust Palace. Some dead scientist named Shirazi. Some forgotten experiment under the auspices of Willa Bray. QUI: She's good as a bloodhound for secrets.

Berriole already has a reputation for unearthing secrets that others can’t find. Also, bloodhounds are still a thing, or at least known via records.

SHU: They're Guardians, Quist. Means the Light has cooked their brains. Haven't you seen them dancing in the Plaza, for no reason, with no music at all? We'll take what we can get.

Shun may love Ikora with a pure and undying love but does not idolize Guardians. He thinks they’re kind of crazy. (BECAUSE WE ARE.)

RAM: If that's the effect on civilians— QUI: It might have been temporary. But— RAM: The decision to lock down the City was wise. SHU: Thank you, thank you. Really, it’s too much.

Okay, this is interesting. It looks like Shun was the one to call for the quarantine on the City--possibly against objections. This means that Shun is pretty dang high in authority, and he’s definitely also someone who can be cautious and think about future consequences. 

(Personally I like the idea that Shun, who has a such a burning personal dedication to Ikora, being the one who makes “the greater good” decisions, while Quist, who has an actual family, is much more moved by immediate personal loyalties.)

QUI: I’d forgotten how heavy and sweaty these were. RAM: Truth be told, I’m braver with the suits on. QUI: A hundred separate pieces, requiring buckling and zipping, though? RAM: We’ll improve the design. Eventually. But they work. Berriole’s got the most delicate tasks, and she manages. SHU: Speaking of our codebreaker. She sent a sample scraped off the sand. And this log.

They’re using the same kind of suit that Berriole is on Mars, which means they’re in actual space suits (probably) instead of just isolation suits. 

Berriole’s primary role may be “codebreaker,” since she’s referred to that way here. 

Ramos prefers to take precautions, and is hopeful for future technological improvements.

QUI: Trust me, you don't want to hear Shun sing.

Shun is a terrible singer. And yet he sings often enough for Quist to know what it’s like.

QUI: Good to have you back, you hair-grayer, you cleft of the Traveler. Don't do that again. RAM: You don't know how happy I am to see you. SHU: What did I miss? RAM: Nothing much. QUI: Everything. You missed everything. Eva’s cooking, dancing Cabal, the man in the moon setting up shop in the Traveler. SHU: Hm. I'll have to ask Ikora for an update. RAM: Wait until you're walking again. QUI: So she can cut you down at the knees. SHU: Ha. Ha.

The “you don’t know how happy I am” suggests to me that Ramos didn’t enjoy taking over Shun’s position, though it’s quite possible it’s just relief that he’s alive. Quist continues to be snarky. Also, apparently Shun’s ~feelings~ for Ikora (and her lack of response) are a running joke among members of Owl Sector.

RAM: Welcome back, Berriole. We're closing this incident. QUI: Good riddance. BER: I'll put the final reports into the system and return the Owl Sector to standby. RAM: Before you do—for our records—any success to report, Liaison to the Vanguard Shun? SHU: None whatsoever. Warlocks are all mystery and power one minute, business as usual the next. Ah well. BER: Why are you all laughing? RAM: I'll brief you later

OH MY GOSH. They are all, like, taking will-they-won’t-they bets on Shun and Ikora, aren’t they? I can’t even. And I’m positive that Bungie will never mention Owl Sector again, which makes this even more tantalizing, and GAH.

More importantly: Berriole mentions returning the Owl Sector to “standby.” This suggests it acts as a body only in times of crisis. Do the members spend most of their time working other jobs? This would explain why their titles (like “geographer”) don’t really match up with what they’re actually recorded working on.
