i think it’s funny that i used to refuse to watch horror movies….i’ve literally watched 5 in the past week
#birdie rambles#i’m still hesitant with certain movies tbh…like deeply disturbing psychological stuff is a little much for me#but ghost movies + slashers are my faves

I haven't seen many horror films and would like some recommendations. What are some must-watch horror movies for someone new to the genre?
oooh this is such a fun question but so hard 2 answer bc horror is like. such a versatile genre & where u should start depends a lot on like what type of movies u enjoy/what ur looking for….
like if u want sci-fi/alien horror then the obvious place 2 start is w alien (1979) and aliens (1986) (there are other sequels as well but the first 2 are the best) & then also the thing (1982) and its prequel film that came out in 2011 (also titled the thing). AND of course the fly (1986) is a must-see...and if u want something more recent nope (2022) or no one will save you (2023)...both a little more artsy and slow-moving than the 80s recs on this list but very very good <3
if ur interested in slashers then again start w the classics scream (1996) is SO fun it deserves its spot in the horror hall of fame...i know what you did last summer (1997) is also a fun & slightly older slasher; cabin in the woods (2011) is great if u want some meta-slasher-horror; ready or not (2019) isn't necessarily a conventional slasher but i'd still include it in this category & it's one of my faves
if found footage is ur jam PLEASE start w creep (2014) probably my fave found footage horror film ever...but also i'm not a huge found footage fan generally speaking lol. that being said the blair witch project (1999) is of course the classic here but it's not my personal fave; other good options if u want something genuinely freaky/scary are the bay (2012) hell house llc (2015) and gonjiam: haunted asylum (2018)
if u want like possessions & demons etc then. start with jennifer's body (2009) if u want horror-comedy it is SO fun & a staple of the genre atp but if u want something scarier then it follows (2014) is a popular one. there have also been a lot of good possesion movies coming out recently i thought smile (2022) talk to me (2022) and when evil lurks (2023) (<- literally JUST watched this one today lol) were all quite spooky
& sort of possession-adjacent but if ur more into hauntings, ghosts, etc then start w the babadook (2014) or his house (2020) both SO good. also the shining (1980) is a classic & la llorona (2019) is a personal fave of mine (NOT. the u.s. 'curse of la llorona' movie. the guatemalan one.)
if u want witches then start w the craft (1996) another sort of fun one <3 or if u want a classic then hungry wives (1972). the love witch (2016) if u want a visually beautiful & less scary one; the witch (2015) if u want a scarier one.
if u want eerie fantasy-horror then the company of wolves (1984) or tale of tales (2015). if u want a creature feature then blood red sky (2021) for vampires, ginger snaps (2000) for werewolves, and a quiet place (2018) for like post-apocalyptic creature invasion horror.
& SPEAKING of post-apocalyptic. if u want zombies i could make a whole separate post but. START w train to busan (2016) & seoul station (2016) the dynamic duo <3 & then if u want some classics from the genre of course night of the living dead (1968), dawn of the dead (2004...i haven't seen the original one u could watch that one too tho...), and 28 days later (2002). raw (2016) if u want an artsier one, the girl with all the gifts (2016) if u want a fun spin on zombie apocalypse, cargo (2017) if u want 2 cry. & if u want something funny then PLEASE watch zombie for sale (2019) or anna and the apocalypse (2017) or one cut of the dead (2017)
if u want kind of a slower-build psychological thriller then the invitation (2015) is one of my faves, but mother! (2017) is also good if u want an artsy pick & gerald's game (2017) and lyle (2014) are good as well
and then just a grab-bag of horror movies that didn't fit perfectly into any of these categories: barbarian (2022) if u want something really scary, piggy (2022) if u want slow-building horror, midsommar (2019) if u want sunshiney culty a24 aesthetic, us (2019) if u want something that'll freak u out & is slasher-adjacent, get out (2017) if u want slow-build thriller vibes, and teeth (2007) if u want teen-girl horror classic.
bear in mind that many of these films overlap between the categories i've divided them into 4 this answer, as is the nature of horror...if u were asking me 2 just like. force myself 2 choose a top 10 horror movies 2 introduce someone 2 horror w no preference 4 genre or vibe...i think my list would probably be (in no particular order):
alien (1979)
2. the fly (1986)
3. jennifer's body (2009)
4. ginger snaps (2000)
5. train to busan (2016) (<- pains me 2 say bc seoul station is my fave zombie movie of all time but if i had 2 choose just one zombie movie 2 introduce someone 2 the genre it would be this one...beginner zombie movie...)
6. scream (1996)
7. his house (2020)
8. barbarian (2022)
9. creep (2014)
10. us (2019)
#ask#SUCH a fun question 4 me 2 answer <3#hope u find something u like on this list anon...#movie recs

i should probablyyyy be asleep rn
but whatever
whats the tts casts favorite halloween movie, or like what they enjoy bcuz thats what tjis turned into LMAO
rapunzel i feel is a diehard tim burton fan, anythinh by him is her fav, but shes also a hocus pocus fan and loves coraline(she also loves any type of halloween special for tv shows and stuff lol, she probably likes the curious george halloween special ngl)
cassie likes horror movies, esp the gore-y ones, i think she probably likes those movies, it gets her anger out. i havent seen many horror movies though bcuz im a paranoid loser so i shy away from scary movies, but cass probably laughs watchinh the scream movies
youve said tjis one before ane i LOVE IT, eugene and varian watch and listen to true crime stuff, varian probably likes the documentaries and podcasts, eugene like the cinematic true crime movies, but they all together like true crime stuff lol
lance, lance likes that one house of mouse episode where all the villians took over and that was the halloween special, he liked vampire mickey(ALSO, the dream works stuff like the shrek scary stories and the monsters vs aliens one aboyt the carrots & pumpkins that turned into zombies)
the girl just watch whatever everyone reccomends, like "okay we'll watch hocus pocus" "okay we'll watch halloweentown" ect, their favs tho are def horror ones, kiera likes nightmare on elm street and chucky, and catalina likes horror, but i feel like shed like the older stuff like frankenstiens monter & obvi stuff abt werewolves & vampires lol
and hugo likes hotel transylvania, specifically bcuz adam sandler does drac, and he forces varian to watch descendents with him, hugo def knows all of the songs to descendents(hes a mal kinnie what can i say)
and yes descendants is a halloween movies, IDC what you say, its a halloween movie /not mean💛
okay im going to bed goodnight augh mimimimi
Sorry this took so long to get to! I love these asks they just require a lot of thought and brainpower I often don’t have :p
Honestly like, you kinda nailed it lmao. I love these hc’s. I don’t know how to add onto it LMAO but here I did include movie hc’s in one of my posts-
I fully agree that Cass and Kiera would love the slasher films. Cass likes the more modern ones because quite a few of them have a feminist vibe, whereas Kiera likes the classics because 1) they’re cooler and 2) they were probably the ones Lance showed her first.
Lance and Rapunzel both like the less spooky and more vibey Halloween movies. Like you said, a lot of Tim Burton and Halloween specials. I think Raps would like Edward Scissorhands and Corpse Bride in particular. I think Lance likes Beetlejuice (in his opinion the musical is much better.) Rapunzel probably loves The Great Pumpkin Peanuts special and all the Phineas And Ferb Halloween specials.
I think Eugene probably also likes the classic slasher films. And like you said, Cat likes the classic Universal Monster films.
Quirin probably watches Halloween movies like the Universal Monster movies, along with some of my ultimate faves- Arsenic and Old Lace and I Married A Witch. Basically Quirin watches a lot of older Halloween movies and I think Varian ended up with those as his favorites. Tbh I don’t think Varian watches a lot of fictional things to scare himself (or at all.) When spooky season comes around, he watches things like Blameitonjorge, Nexpo, Nick Crowley, etc. True scary stories. He probably also loves the internet rabbit holes because they’re kind of like puzzles. (I’m really projecting onto him ngl but it fits okay!)
I feel like Hugo likes “bad” Halloween movies. Failures. Movies that fail so badly at being scary they’re funny. Think Velocipastor (please think about Velocipastor it’s the greatest movie in existence) but I can also see him enjoying Found Footage and along with Varian, “True” scary stories.
I think Hugo, Varian, and the girls watch obviously fake ghost hunting videos and make fun of them. They watch a lot of John Wolfe. I can also see Varigo + Eugene, Lance, and the girls really liking Buzzfeed Unsolved and Ghost/Mystery Files, along with Too Many Spirits. Which Varigo reenact at one point.
I think Lance, Eugene, and the girls watch the Conjuring series and other paranormal movies together. I can’t see Cass and Hugo enjoying them a whole lot, and Varian and Rapunzel are super afraid of them. I can see Varian and Rapunzel watching The Twilight Zone together. And also those Halloweentown movies on Disney (I’ve not seen them but they seem like Disney Channel fans) Varian, Raps, and Eugene watched the Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina but deemed it not nearly as good as the original sitcom. Eugene and Hugo hate-watch Twilight. Raps watches Halloween baking shows. Lance and Hugo like Rocky Horror Picture Show. Lance and Eugene like Young Frankenstein.
Goodnight rest well!

Do you like horror movies? Have you seen any good ones lately? I wanna see "talk to me" but I'm scared of ghosts! 😭 but I also love horror movies! So you can see my dilemma 😅
Funny thing is when I was a kid I was so scared of the concept of horror I wouldn’t even watch the Addams Family, and I only realized I liked horror in the past few years, so I really should be asking other people for recommendations 😊 Last year I finally watched some classic slasher movies for the first time (Freddy Krueger’s my fave). The VVitch is one of my favorite movies in general, and I love the aesthetics in Mandy :>

(and, for a non-trolling ask, Edith Cushing (though I imagine someone else /has to've/ already submitted this one before me, already))
Actually, nobody else has done Edith, and nobody's done Lucille at all! Surprising, right?
1: sexuality headcanon
Bisexual. Although I generally imagine her worldview as somewhat bi-normative; she thinks all women feel this way about other women, and men. I don't think she's considered whether men are the same way or not; if pressed, she might conclude that it would be only logical. And then go right back to not considering it again.
2: otp
Edith/Thomas/Lucille. And if I had to nix one of those, it would be Edith/Lucille. I do ship her with Thomas; I just don't think that's the most interesting one to explore.
3: brotp
Edith + Alan, of course. We love a BFF who respects a romantic rejection and still cares enough to come after you when your hot aristocrat husband turns out to be fatally bad news. I imagine theirs as a sort of "Edith, no" "EDITH YES" friendship.
4: notp
Edith/Alan. It just seems like the easy way out post-canon to me, with an uncomfortable side order of Heroine's Love Is Reward For Man She Rejected Who Saved Her. But I have seen it done well, so I won't yuck anyone else's yum.
5: first headcanon that pops into my head
As a child, Edith acted out historical events and scenes from Shakespeare with her dolls.
6: favorite line from this character
"I heard you the first time."
7: one way in which I relate to this character
I feel like anyone who writes CPeak fanfiction is a bit of an Edith at heart. We're all writing dark, dramatic, emotionally fraught Gothic stories with ghosts and SymbolismTM, aren't we?
8: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character
Girl. You called for Thomas, you heard desolate higher-pitched sobbing, and he didn't answer. Don't hang around the attic like horror movie slasher-bait, RUN.
9: cinnamon roll or problematic fave?
Problematic fave. I firmly believe she has the moral fortitude of a wet paper bag. "Aristocrats are parasites...until I want to climb one like a tree; later, losers!" And I love this about her.

Do you have recommendation for non-slasher horror films?
yea yeayeayeya yea sure i can surely put something together. for the longest time i was strictly into ghost movies and right before my slasher craze i was all about fucked up ones that make you feel upside down so i should have. something for you
aight sooo have you ever seen sinister ajfjkakf i DON'T know like !! where you're coming from so sorry if some of these are obvious & you've seen it but ! sinister 2012 is an old fave and i rewatched it w my brother recently so i will push it. thanks
another old fave that i liked soo much when i was liddol. the woman in black 2012. good ghost story good one to see w buddies
not sure why i'm digging so far back for this ask but... km 31 from 2006... fucked me & my cousins UP when we were kids i STILL fuckin remember the plot so clearly like it might be shite quality i don't remember but it STAYS w you none of us forgot it
have u seen melancholia 2011. can i say it deserves more hype than the other two lars von trier movies that get way too much hype (even tho the house that jack built is cool as !fuck!) like it. makes you feel very hollow i think it hits so well
lake mungo 2008 also rearranges u like that u never know where it's going it won't allow u to think you've figured it out it's really cool
i will namedrop creep 2014. bc. it's not exactly slasher and it's just really fucking weird it gets under your skin really well & i love it so so much
martyrs 2009. like. i do feel like a better person for watching it. but it does like. get worse w time like immediately after watching it i felt like it wasn't as bad as anticipated but now thinking back on it makes my throat dry it's great
the orphanage 2007. my God. i love ghost mvoies that have a cool story to figure out + make u sad those are my fuckin faves watch the orphanage NOW if there is ONE movy from this list u decide to watch let it be the orphanage omg
the platform 2019 weird ass movy i watched w friend it . like. what
& last one i watched was called eli also from 2019 it was weird it was fucky it was fuuuuun i liked it :) i'll rec it sure why not
i Want to say the grudge & the ring original AND remakes (not the latest ones tho they always push it too far) deserve the world there is something abt female ghost w long black hair man. it is truly so effective and not many movys have traumatized me like those as a kid OR big boy i'm still too scared that it'll fuck me up to watch them alone !!
other bonus one if u can even consider it horror everyone in the world should see zombieland 2009 at least once one of my most beloved movies ever it's family to me
in general i think. might be controversial but i do think non-slasher horrors peaked like. in the 2000s to mid 2010s w some cool stuff from 2019 forward w the a24 era that i do not mind at all i think they're cool but the. badness and tackyness from earlier 2000s is perfect
#ask#this is evil to ask me btw. NO I'M JOKING but#DO keep in mind that i actively enjoy movies that are bad. they're not as charming when they're not slashers but bad movies fuck forever#but i am so fond of ghost/psychological horrors from the 2000s that tru really hard and either do great or are embarassing i#i don't have Feelings as strong for them as i do for the slasher type obviously. but they do mean so much to me#i used to watch soooo many unfort i forgot a lot of them at least by name but i am really fond of that timeframe for what concerns#horror movies i think it was a good era#also this list is probably shite but when a bitch gets put on the spot it's hard to think of stuff!!! your mind gets whiped clean!#it's so empty in there!

TAG PEOPLE YOU’D LIKE TO KNOW BETTER!
Favourite colour(s): Purples and blues.
Favourite flavour(s): I love most sweet things, as well as most spicy things. And by spicy, I'm talking ghost peppers are the 'somewhat hot' level of spice for me. But then, I am from the US South, so we tend to use a lot of spice here - especially in the areas where you'll find cajun cooking as part of the norm.
Favourite genre(s): Scifi mostly, and clever fantasy (think more along the lines of Discworld rather than Lord of the Rings kind of thing). I'm also a big fan of horror - mostly in terms of the psychological and supernatural stuff, rather than slashers and gorefests - as well as some outright cozy mysteries.
Favourite music: My musical taste is extremely eclectic, in part because I'm a multi-instrumentalist, and I enjoy hearing others play some of my favourite instruments to play. I listen mostly to metal, hard rock, and alternative, but I also listen to everything from pop to classical. Pretty much the only thing I'm not a big fan of is most modern-ish country music (ie the "my wife left me for my truck and took my dog because I was an abusive asshole" variety).
Favourite movie: Some of my long lasting favourites range from Ghostbusters (1984), Labyrinth (1986), and Aliens (1986) to The Addams Family (1991), Galaxy Quest (1999), and Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse (2018), just to name a few of my most rewatched.
Favourite series: Again in terms of long-lasting faves, Doctor Who (with pretty much the full extended universe range from 1963 to present day), Star Trek (various eras from TOS and TNG through at least DS9 and Voyager - didn't see much past that besides Enterprise, iirc), The Real Ghostbusters (1986), American Gods (2017), BBC's Ghosts (2019), Good Omens (2019), and The Mandalorian (2019).
Last song: VoicePlay's cover of We Don't Talk About Bruno
Last series: Dragon Age: Absolution (2022)
Last movie: The Batman (2022)
Currently reading: Mass Effect: Annihilation by Catherynne M. Valente
Currently watching: in between things right now, so nothing at the moment
Currently working on: revamping various pages across all four blogs, trying to plan out new banner graphics, attempting to remember what that word is that I've forgotten that has been driving me nuts since 4am this morning...
TAGGED BY STOLEN FROM: @dutyworn 😘💕❤️💜💙
TAGGING: steal it!

What’s next on the list? 🥹 how much requests do you got at the moment? Other than that, what’s your favourite horror genre? Or what do you like in horror movies? 👀
Probably something from this ask.
There’s like 80+ in my inbox, so I probably won’t write or respond to most of them. Eventually I need to go through and clear out my inbox like I am with my drafts.
2025 I’m probably going back to posting shorter imagines because anything that’s supposed to be 2,500+ words just gets interrupted all the time and that kills the mood lol.
It’s really hard to choose a fave horror genre or even a subgenre!
I almost always find slashers entertaining. The entire Scream franchise is great because it’s self-aware. Nightmare on Elm Street too because the slashing takes place in dreams and I love anything surreal!
One of my favorite genres is portal fantasy, so when it’s combined with horror I love it! See Coraline.
In movies, unless it’s like a murder mystery the plot is way less important to me than striking visuals. And when they’re combined, like in giallo, I adore it!
Stephen King, Jordan Peele, and Brian Yuzna are my favorite horror creators. Besides King, I actually don’t read a lot of horror, though I devour nonfiction books about folklore/urban legends, witchcraft (trials), spiritualism, etc. Ghost and monster movies are usually great.
I want to try getting more into analog horror. Skinamarink had the atmosphere down pat. Kyle Edward Ball has more stuff on his YouTube channel. (Try watching it just after sunset, in the dark, alone.) The first analog horror stuff I got into were the main Slenderverse series: Marble Hornets, TribeTwelve, and EverymanHYBRID.
And of course there’s monster movies, but that’s too broad and something I could go on about for hours lol.

As Halloween is coming up I decided to create some pieces based on popular (and my favourite kind) of horror movies! Say hello to Ghostface, Freddy Krueger and Michael Myers (I've also done another Ghostface and a Jason Vorhees illustration too). I had great fun creating these on my iPad these last few weeks! I love them so much I've turned them into prints, available for purchase via my Etsy shop in a range of sizes! Feel free to check these and the other Halloween illustrations available on my Etsy shop 👻🔪🩸🎃
I'm also taking part in some Halloween themed drawing challenges over the course of the month! I'll be sharing each illustration I create daily on my Instagram, so if you like spooky Halloween stuff, go follow!

so we already know how lucius' house feels abt horror movies but id love to know who else are horror haters vs horror enjoyers? and for the enjoyers which is their favorite subgenre
Ooooh fun. So you know my baseline, I love reading horror, like watching some kinds of it. Haunting of Hill House, both the original book, the black and white movie and the fucking amazing Netflix series are very much my jam. I'm meh on Stephen King, but absolutely love Clive Barker.
Lucius- No horror, no thanks, except that he does on occasion watch a slasher film because it's on. Not because he likes them, you understand. Sometimes things just fall in front of your eyes. He does read horror novels occasionally. It's his travel genre and lately he's been digging into Joe Hill's earlier work.
Pete- Loves them! All kinds of horror films. He likes other kinds of movies too. Sometimes if they get really really gory he might take a step back, but of course they never really scare him. Pete doesn't get scared! He might get a little more cautions. That's all.
John- Also loves them! But is very easily spooked. He can only watch them with other people and definitely prefers jump-scare style churned out sequels. He has seen a ton of slashers. More art house kind of horror actually scares him even more. Midsommer took about a week off his life.
Frenchie- No. Nope. Not interested, not even a little, thanks. Aliens and ghosts are real and you do not fuck with that shit. He will not hear that some horror movies are not about about those things, it's a blanket no. He has, however, seen all of Hannibal and really loves it. Will not accept that it's technically horror.
Jim- They would never admit it in a million years, but they saw Sixth Sense as a kid and it gave them nightmares for weeks. They absolutely will not watch a horror movie if they can figure a way out of it.
Oluwande- Not his thing. He will if other people want to see it and be okay with it, but he's not looking for it. He does like campfire ghost stories and urban legends though. When he was a kid, he read a ton of R.L. Stine. He and Roach have an inside joke about Mothman.
Stede- Loves a creature feature, the more vintage the better (he did get Alma started on them after all). Always had a soft spot for Swamp Thing. He saw the Ed Wood biopic several times. Many times. Let's not dissect that. He has a low tolerance for anything bloody, will not watch anything with torture in it. He's the Shirley Jackson fan of the bunch, but his favorite is We Have Always Lived in a Castle.
Eddy- Omnivore movie watcher thanks to years of insomnia in hotel rooms, so they've seen a lot of horror along with everything else. She comes in on the more 'no thanks' side these days. Once they bought Pan's Labyrinth on pay-per-view without knowing what it was and wound up watching it all the way through twice. They still think about it sometimes and aren't sure why. Maybe it's the eyeballs in the hands thing.
Alma- Has and will watch anything she can get her hands on. She especially loves monster movies because those are her roots, but she has branched out and is not deterred by subtitles. Vampire movies are probably her all time favorite and even though it's not really horror, her all time fave vampire flick is Only Lovers Left Alive.
Roach- Eh. It doesn't scare him, but he doesn't much like it either. Does absolutely love a cryptid though. He doesn't think they're real, but...what if they were, you know?
Izzy- He likes mysteries which can sometimes verge into horror territory. Also he likes Hitchcock a lot. He's got a black and white film sensibility all the way around. A lot of the mystery series he reads verge into pretty graphic horror like territory too, especially the serial killer stuff. He really liked the Archie Sheridan and Gretchen Lowell series by Chelsea Cain.
Charlie- Cannot watch even a single minute, but can read the absolute goriest stuff imaginable. The book he mentions to Izzy in the latest chapter is real by the way. Dan Wells 'I Hunt Killers' series is supernatural Dexter for teens and it's great and Charlie loves it.
Buttons- Never watches them, but was once an extra in a zombie movie and they let him keep his costume so he has that in his closet. Also, he was once mistakenly spotted and reported as cryptid on a reddit forum.

Ok so I just accidentally sent this to @ghost-go-roasty-mctoasty even though it was meant for you (thanks tumblr mobile and my inability to pay attention before hitting send):
“I can recommend so many better scary movies than that (if you’d actually watch them)” - ok, while I am not involved in this convo, I am a scary movie aficionado and would love to hear your recs! I have watched so many good and bad scary movies because I will give almost anything in that genre a try and I am always looking for recommendations since most people rec the same handful of movies so I’m always on the lookout for something new!
Feel free to get involved! I’ve been bugging becky to watch my fave scary movies for like a week so I think it’s obvious I wanna talk about scary movies lol so I’m happy to share some!
One thing to note is I lean more towards psychological thrillers as opposed to ghost/demon/jump scare movies, but anyway, here’s some recs:
Gotta start with the entire SAW (2004-2010) franchise (excluding jigsaw and spiral) which is fucking incredible. They movies aren’t scary in a boo-ghost jump-scare kinda way, but they’re high intensity and gory af for people who like that. Not to mention there’s a really fascinating storyline that links everything together, well-written complex characters, and an amazing plot twist with every movie. I could not recommend them more and they’re genuinely my favorite movies of all time. I’ve watched all 7 movies 3 times over the past 2 months showing them to different friends and I was just as entertained every time if that’s any indication of how good they are
Se7en (1995) is another one of my all time faves. A lot of people have seen or at least know of it (“what’s in the boxxxxx”), but I think it’s one everyone has to watch at least once. It’s got a really interesting case with a lot of fucked up moments. It’s just an iconic thriller movie. Both Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman give (at least what I think) is some of their best performances in this movie
Kristy (2014) is one I watched expecting it to be another B rated horror movie that me and my friends could make fun of, but it was actually so fucking good. It’s thriller more than horror but it’s really captivating. It’s one that makes your heart race. The concept is something I had never seen before and it’s still one of my fave scary movies
Kiss the Girls (1997) is one of the first R-rated horror movies I was allowed to watch and just wow. I thought it was scary but so cool. Definitely not the best for a kid but when I rewatched when I was older I was able to truly appreciate the storytelling. It was really captivating and even though it’s a little slow moving at times, it makes up for it with adrenaline rush scenes. Also another Morgan Freeman movie where he plays a cop (like in se7en) but he does it really well. Fun fact it’s also the first time I saw Morgan freeman without grey hair lol
Us (2019) is one I think a lot of people have seen, but I still have to rec is bc oh my god it was so good. I saw it in theaters and nothing compares to the feeling of watching a movie that intense and having everyone be silent with anticipation. I’ve seen it so many times and I get chills every time I watch it. It has a few really good plot twists and Jordan Peele is an incredible director
Get Out (2017) is another Jordan Peele movie that I know a lot of people know but still deserves to be on the list. It’s suspense levels are off the charts and once your realize what’s happening your heart is racing and your mind is fucked
Scream (1996) isn’t scary to me but it’s a really good slasher movie which fits my theme of thrillers. It’s just a classic and everyone need to watch it lol
Pet (2016) was another one I watched with friends planning to make fun of, but it ended up being really creepy and fucked up. It starts off as your typical psychological horror with creepy man who’s obsessed with a girl but oh boy it’s so much more than that
The Ward (2010) gives me chills even when I just think about it. It takes you in so many different directions and your heart just races the entire time. It has easily one of the best plot twists in a horror movie that I’ve ever seen
The Den (2013) freaked me the fuck out. One of the few times I was actually unable to sleep bc of watching something. It’s centered around a webcam chat thing (kinda like omegle) so it felt very realistic to me and just… go watch it. If this was a list in rank order instead of random order this one would be closer to the top
Hush (2016) is yet another one I watched expecting to be able to make fun of, but it was awesome. It starts a little slow but it’s got a very fast pace through the whole movie once it gets going. It’s also really cool since the main character is disabled, which is not something you usually see and spoiler alert: she kicks ass
The Pact (2012) is one I haven’t watched in a long time but still comes to mind when thinking about horror movies. Mainly bc of the plot twist which blew my mind at the time. I felt on edge through most of the movie and was one of my favorites for a while
Insidious (2010) is one of the few on this list where it’s an entity and while I find a lot of ghost/demon movies laughable, this one actually creeps me out. It’s yet another high intensity movie and has a lot of creepy moments that makes it hard to watch in the dark
The Woman in Black (2012) was another really good one that freaked me out. It’s been a long time since I watched it but I remember that it was slow paced but creepy as fuck
Circle (2015) has a really unique concept and is very high intensity. I find it really interesting since it takes place in a single location most of the movie and while the characters don’t get much of a backstory, you still somehow feel for a lot of them. It’s not horror or even thriller in the conventional way so if you like stuff like that I think this is a good one to watch
Since 15 seems like enough/a lot so I’ll cap it here, but if you (or anyone else honestly) end up liking some of these and want more recs feel free to ask and I’ll come up with some more <3
