Need to talk about Freed by The Plot In You before I explode everyone bear with me for a second.

First of all I will always die on the hill that is Landon Tewers because I am obsessed with his voice and his music and the fact that he’s the lead singer of TPIY absolutely fucking blew my mind. What a guy. Chefs kiss. The way he manages to blend a slightly shaky vocal quality with the ping-pulse intro of the song is so beautiful and he manages to get the intent of the song across with just the power of his voice, lyrics non necessary. The tremor and power of his vocals (especially when paired with the slow build of music) is so well done, especially when he manages to make it sound quiet at the same time. And the way he transitions to the mid fry scream for emphasis. Good GOD, it’s only emphasis on the end of two words, but it completely sells the tone. It blends sorrow and anger and is just SO well done.

The transition from fry to clean vocal is also just. Damn bro! He pulls off this powerful emphasis and then shifts back into soft and wavery and watery, which is only one of the first ways the song plays with depth and tone in beautiful ways.

After the first verse the chorus kicks in with a hint of fry in comparison to the pure clean vocals of before and again, it conveys this sense of desperation. He’s gone from mournful to upset, to angry, to a man who is (pardon the lyric reference) about to break. The sound amps up, gets a lot more solid, and crescendos into a drop that solidifies the rest of the song, especially when paired with the steady rumble of guitar.

The second repeat of the chorus is the same but also different; the sound is fuller, the guitar is more present, and the fry is kept solid through Tewers’s voice as he sings this mournful song about a man who has failed and who has been put on display for it and is so very clearly hurting. The blend between clean and scream is toed so beautifully, and then he makes it to the edge of the chorus, and refuses to throw the listener off of it. As compared to the first chorus, the building one, the second is louder and more blatant, but it is hollow, still empty, missing that last, final, crucial lyric. And it never gets added. It’s like musical edging in the most tonally consistent way, because you never get that final line, and the music fades off, back into the sound from the beginning. There’s no guitar, just the pulsing, techy sound.

Anyways, the first chorus is my favourite, because of how it takes the tone set in the verse, and takes it harder, takes it deeper, adds a whole lot of intensity that you wouldn’t have expected from the beginning of the song. The build up of it is incredible, especially with the fry, and the last three lyrics hit no different the second or third or twentieth listen through. The way Tewers screams break to end off the chorus resonates REALLY hard in my soul, especially with the pause between lyrics, the moment where you can hear him inhale-exhale before throwing his whole being into those four words. @sincerehimbo posts some p good informational content, and also recommended some good blogs to follow in his masterlist. and!!! i highly recommend reya singh's youtube channel as a good kicking off point, esp her "what is shifting video"

as for my personal advice, i'd definitely suggest getting down and actualising both your belief in shifting as a concept, and your ability to do so. is it required? nope, you can shift under any circumstance, but i definitely believe it makes the whole process far easier.

Watching The Dragon Prince Season Six Part Six! Moment of Truth. Under the cut as per the usual! This episode will reveal my habit of using more pet names for characters the more distressed I become!

I’d just like to say that every time the intro plays, I experience a few seconds of intense fear as I wait to see if it’s Callum again. They've done it twice now I am fully expecting them to do it again.

Oh dang, that is a beautiful opening shot of the sunrise. Absolutely stunning.

Ohh... poor Callum... Yeah, that would be a blow to anyone’s self esteem. Especially when we know from The Frozen Ship that Callum's been struggling with the idea that he had already permanently ruined himself by using dark magic.

(Also again, the voice acting is amazing.)

Oh, you know, that’s a good idea! Since they don’t really need to kill Aaravos they just need to stop him from being freed and the main threats to his status as imprisoned are Claudia finding the pearl or Callum getting possessed. If it’s in the Starscraper being guarded by Celestial Elves, then that’s both problems solved! Claudia doesn’t know where it is and it’d be pretty difficult for a possessed Callum to go get it, especially not before anyone could stop him. Good thinking Rayla!

...On the one hand that’s really bad and a serious problem but on the other hand that is so fucking funny. The magic prison you've been carrying wrapped in an anti-magic blanket through the freezing cold is a giant M&M. Sorry. There is no good way to deliver the news, huh.

Oh, Callum… The way his voice shakes and he sounds so out of breath like he’s having a panic attack. Poor baby.... 🥺

And of course it makes him feel worse because to him, if it really was Aaravos influencing Callum without him knowing, then it’s confirming that, not only is there the possibility that he could one day become a threat to his friends safety, he actively is a threat to them. And if it was simply an accident, at the very least, there’s something he can do to prevent another accident. If it's an accident, then it's something that he did and something that he can make an effort to not let it happen again in the future. Whereas if it’s Aaravos, there’s nothing he can do. The thing he could have done to prevent Aaravos possessing him is not use dark magic but that ship has sailed. He’d be entirely helpless and it’d be his own fault.

Also, it goes without saying but I’m going to say it anyways: Give Callum’s VA an award, the voice-acting is so good, the franticness, the hyperventilation. It’s so good.

Ooh, I love this style of flashback. I love the way that it’s the same artstyle as the credits and how it makes perfect sense since in-universe, Viren’s writing all this down on a piece of parchment. Also, I think that this is first time we’ve heard Lissa’s name in the actual show! I love how you can already see that Claudia got her hair-texture from Lissa while Soren got his from Viren.

Hmm. I know it’s probably just coincidence, but the fact that Soren seemingly had a terminal respiratory disease makes me wonder if maybe he had the same condition as Callum’s father, since Callum said that Damian had “some sort of terrible breathing sickness.”

Oh?? I’ve always been curious what it is about the staff that enhances dark magic since it doesn’t come from a specific primal source. Usually, it comes from taking the life force of living things, but how does a staff help with that? Hmm…

Okay, I’ve questioned this before but. What is up with Kpp’Ar’s arm? It’s clearly injured… Is he using his own blood for spells? It feels like such a random detail to add without explanation. I wonder if we’ll find out...

Ah, so Harrow isn’t king yet. Interesting… I guess that makes sense since Kpp’Ar doesn’t appear in any of the Magma Titan flashbacks.

I think I remember Kpp’Ar having given up dark magic from The Puzzle House (please forgive me if I'm wrong my memory is shit), but I wonder what could have happened to make him veer away from dark magic and the staff to the point where he won’t consider using them to save a child… The royal family doesn’t have Aaravos’s mirror yet so I don’t think it could be that. I am so curious about this man...

KPP’AR MAN, COME ON! I get that you’ve seen some things but you could at the bare minimum be a LITTLE more tactful than that! If there’s some reason that the staff can’t be used, you could, I don’t know, EXPLAIN IT to Viren? Instead of just leaving him sobbing in the room with no explanation as to why you are letting his son die? ...I see where Viren gets it from.

And the implications of refusing to get rid of Aaravos’s control considering the fact that he made Rayla promise to kill him if he ever got controlled again and she did. Oh, honey… Callum’s arc this season is repeatedly punching me directly in the stomach.

Plus the voice acting, again. The way he sounds so dead and empty and almost apathetic, like it’s already over, like there’s just no point to anything anymore. AHG.

Or are you shifting a burden to someone who needs all their strength?” I really like Astrid and I like how they're not going the "lying is always bad, telling the truth is always good in every situation no matter the context" route and instead acknowledging that it requires more nuance! Also, I love how Astrid is animated here, her body language is very expressive and fun.

OH? Oh that explains why it was monotone I had been thinking that it was just like, a sudden style change to portray the emotions or something skjfaslkj. That make a lot more sense.

Also, I like the clarification of how the future-sight works! It seems kind of like Clearsight’s ability in Wings of Fire where she can see all of the possible futures that diverge from her decision. Kosmo can see the possibilities that arise from his decision of whether to tell the truth or not and then pick the best option once he’s seen the diverging paths. It’s probably my favorite form of “prophetic” ability and I especially appreciate it being used here since it lets Timeblind elves like Kosmo exist while still holding true to the themes in the show about the nonexistence of destiny and how the choices you make impact the future.

Okay, I still feel like being Timeblind would suck. I can only imagine Kosmo feeling super awkward repeating what he said in the vision and like. I don’t know but I feel like it’d be creepy to have the people around you constantly parrot what you’ve already heard them say like they’re reading from scripts and you know what they’re about to say and the exact tone they’ll say it in a second before the words come out of their mouths. That would entirely creep me out.

This is admittedly nothing new, and doesn’t tell us any more about when this scene may take place, before or after Amity tells Luz to turn on the light. It’s possible she and the others are dragged off after saying this, and teleported to the Collector’s room where all the puppets are held... Meaning these shots might happen after, as they free themselves and everyone else using glyphs AKA Titan magic, known to counteract that of the Collectors;

If so, hopefully Amity is successfully turning on the glyph here, and this is actually a moment of triumphant return! Even so, it really hurts to see my baby girl like this and I want to tell her it’ll be okay. 😭 It hurts so much to see Amity have grown so much, only to be reduced to a lifeless puppet with no autonomy...

Of course, the outfits might suggest that the “Turn on the light” bit happens later. So maybe she DOES get freed, only to be recaptured? Or awoken as the strings are being pulled by the Collector, forcing them to draw the others away? Are the kids puppeted with an illusion placed to make them seem legit, until Luz restores their consciousness briefly, making the Collector withdraw the kids because they’re now liable to fight back? Or even, Amity tells Luz her advice even as the strings ensnare her and everyone else, pull them away, and THEN sic Luz’s friends on her... Ough.

It's done. My Death Mark longfic, Victims to an Unholy Sophistry, is finally finished!! This is a kinda vent post cuz I needa spew but also a appreciation post! Haha!

Ough. Two years. VUS took me two years to finish and that extended time really made me sour towards it. Plus, I have the instant reflex to hate anything I make, haha!

But unfortunately for VUS, it was being written during the worst part of my life so far - a lot has happened in my life during this time - moving into my own place, forcing myself to be more social, family issues and mainly the BIGGGG continual mental spiral - those things being some of reasons it took so long to finish! But because it is tied to this time in my life I can't bring myself to love it. Right now I’m panicking that I didn't do the ending the Justice the Lonely who started writing it wanted. So I'm sorry, past Lonely. I still feel that Rainwater Coffee is my favourite work, even though VUS had themes which I love.

My inspiration for VUS was the manga Sleeping Dead, which I love! The ending was so powerful and beautiful, portrayed so well, I felt empty once it was finished!

But as I said in my author's notes, I am super, super grateful to all the fishes that gave VUS a chance and stuck around!! It means the whole ocean to me!! Despite that being their job, words can't express the gratitude I feel to anyone who checks out my works!! ❤️ I do have a shorter sequel planned for VUS, only because I wanna use a certain guy as an antagonist! (I'm easy to read, you know who it is!) but I want to get other works out of the way, first!!

So again, thank you so, so much if you read VUS and liked it! Knowing that it gave a handful of people some enjoyment is enough for me! ❤️

As a fun bonus, here's the only physical reference for Lady and Mister I have from a while back. I hate having to design clothing, the whole fic everyone just had basic long robe/cloak get-ups when I was thinking about scenes, even though in my head I pictured certain characters having more detailed clothing!

I love your au! It is one of my favorites since not many people tend to include Investiture of Gods and how this possibly affected Erlang (but I also understand why bc Investiture of Gods has many chapters, and there is only one or two English versions of the book). but I wanted to ask, what Erlang stories are canon in your AU? Since myths tend to have many versions and Erlang has a role in Investiture of Gods as well as in Lotus Lantern. Just curious!

What stories are canon…

Well because of the timeline in this LEGO Monkie Kid AU you’d think Lotus Lantern wouldn’t be canon but it is, with that being one of the major reasons why Erlang and SWK’s relationship is so strained throughout the rest of the AU (something about imprisoning your brother in arms and then your blood sister… ough)

I wanted to do more research on Erlang’s myths but iirc he also freed? Accidentally? The Demon Bull King and another demon because he shot the demon revealing mirror while drunk with Nezha. And I wanted that to be one of the reasons why DBK is out so early in the AU

What else… he had a brother (Yang Jiao) and when the Jade Emperor sent his armies to capture his family only him and his sister, Yang Chan, survived. It’s also why he has such a grudge against the Jade Emperor in my fanfic Boy Savior, the prologue to the AU

I love studying this dude and I LOVE his change of wanting to be loyal to Heaven to leaving Heaven entirely

how i feel about this character: when i first started playing genshin i was pretty ambivalent towards him but when i actually got to know him and especially after the perilous trail quest i just. ough. because he's lost so much and he has spent so long believing that he doesn't deserve to be anything more than a weapon because he believes that he can't do anyone any good as anything more but he slowly starts to realise that perhaps people Do appreciate him for just him and especially in the perilous trail quest we see him faced with the fact that sometimes? even if you don't believe you should go on you don't always get a choice. sometimes you Have to keep going no matter how much you might not want to and see that there are in fact people who want to keep on going with you no matter how difficult it may be for you to grasp. anyway can you tell that i like him a lot lmaooo

all the people i ship romantically with this character: to be honest the only character that i really ship him with is venti and i honestly don't know how to condense all of my feelings about xiaoven into something readable but. let me just say that they have a very special place in my heart. the god of freedom and someone who has been trapped all of his life (obviously there is Far more nuance than that bc xiao's contract with rex lapis that a lot of people tend to view as being restrictive is probably something that xiao views as having freed him from his previous enslavement so there would be this conflict between this contract that he bound himself to because it gave him freedom and that he continues to uphold even though he technically doesn't have to anymore purely because not doing so would feel like a betrayal to him and this freedom from endless battle that he so obviously yearns for (see his namecard) but won't allow himself to have

my non-romantic otp for this character: call me basic all you want but i do genuinely think that xiao's relationship with the traveler plays an undeniably central role in his character development, even if i kind of hate how fanservice-y it can get at times

Alan used to be a human but then became a siren

Chosen was kidnapped by the still human Alan and got freed by a domesticated siren that has never seen the sea, dark (if dark hadn't saved chosen then chosen would have had their voice removed for being displayed, dark never got theirs removed because the humans assumed they didn't have one)

Tim was also kidnapped by Alan but unfortunately they got their voice removed so they're mute but they managed to escape and because a human (not a full human) and seek revenge against both land and sea

Second was the one who made Alan realize that sirens were living beings capable of thoughts and words, and so he decided to become a siren

Then second meets rgby

That's honestly all ideas I have for now

Hey everyone, time for me to sperg out about one of--if not my favorite scene in Halo Infinite. Read on below the cut.

Take a look. You only need to watch through to 2:12 for what I'm going to say. In this scene, we see the Master Chief rescue Spartan Griffin from the cell where he was being tortured. There's so much right about this scene god damn it. The acting is perfect. The Weapon's facial expressions and intonation are perfect. She genuinely seems like she's at a loss for what to do to comfort this broken, broken man. Cortana would know what to say. The Weapon doesn't. What she eventually settles on is redirecting Chief's attention to the mission. It works, getting him moving forward.

The camera work is also so fucking good. It's one continuous shot, like most of the cutscenes in the game. The moment Griffin is freed, it focuses on him, then throughout his conversation, slowly revolves around to focus on Chief instead, eventually leaving Griffin only barely visible in Chief's visor but completely out of frame. That's when they hit you with Griffin's death. Then the pan around the Weapon, and how it follows Chief in a way that makes him look pissed the fuck off. Ough, chef's kiss.

Now let's talk about the four ways that the game communicates that Griffin has died, just out of frame. They layer four different things to make damn sure you know what just happened, while keeping the dialogue in tone. It wouldn't make sense for Chief or the Weapon to say he died, and Esparza doesn't know, so instead, they rely on these four things.

1) The music. At the start of the scene, we hear the haunting women's choir that is heavily featured in the game's soundtrack. As soon as Griffin mentions the Spartans, there is a tiny bit of the men's choir that is so heavily associated with the series, with the Master Chief, with the Spartans. Then after only a measure of men's choir, we get hit with the slow, deep strings. It lingers on the strings alone for a long time, just to let it sink in. The choir comes back once Esparza radios in, but very subtle and somber. Finally, percussion and digital instrumentation comes in when the Weapons brings Chief back by talking about the mission. The piece really does everything it needs to, especially the sudden shift to indicate that a character has died just out of frame.

2) The lighting. Oh, the lighting. It's never comforting, but the fact that the bright warm white light above their heads goes out right as Griffin dies, fading to the harsh red contrasting with the Weapon's soft blue. There isn't much to describe here, but yeah, it's a fantastic switch up. The red can be seen as Chief's anger, and the blue as his sadness. Even if that's looking too far into it, the change is just one more indicator of Griffin's death.

3) Chief's posture. This is so subtle but it's so impactful to both our understanding of the events and Chief's emotions. Before Griffin dies, he's leaning forward to rest his hand on Griffin's shoulder. Once Griffin dies, Chief leans back very slightly. His head tilts the just tiniest amount. He lowers his hand as he processes what's happening. The camera pans to the Weapon, and by the time it turns back to Chief, he's standing again. But he's still looking at Griffin. When he finally looks up at her, there's a slight pause before he makes the sudden movement to collect her and move on. Oh, and the way he looks down for just a moment before looking ahead and raising his gun, oh man. He's pissed. He's so angry, and he's channeling that into determination to complete his mission.

4) The heartbeat. I saved the best for last. If you're playing on controller, and if you have vibration turned on, you'll be greeted by the most fucking heart-wrenching piece of 4D storytelling. The moment Griffin falls into Chief's arms, your controller starts vibrating to the rhythm of Griffin's heartbeat. As they talk, the beating gets softer, and softer, until right as the music and lighting change, it stops. The controller goes silent. By the time you realize what's happening, Chief has realized too, and he leans back. AAAGGGHHH it's so good!! Christ, man, I can't get over it. I started to tear up when I played through it the first time.

Anyway yeah that's my infodump on this fucking fantastic scene. Thanks for reading!

How Do I Feel About Them?

He fills me with so much grief you don't understand. Yeah he is The Silly and has a chance to call you "The Skrunkly!" Or smth when walking into his shop, he has really fun dialogue and is a little shit to you when you die. (One of my favorites lines is "(mocking tone) OoOUghHG IS thErE FiRE DamAgE? OOoOUGHh iS thErE FaLL DamAGe??")

But he escaped containment at a chance of freedom he was robbed of. He is gathering research so he can trade it for his freedom. His life was stolen from him and he can *never* be the same again. He frees the other experiments. He's stuck at the bottom of the ocean in some shitty lab for crimes he didn't commit.

Other than that, Sebastian x P.ai.nter is a nice ship. Context: P.ai.nter is an sentient AI that wanted to create landscapes and paintings, but in this research facility was forced to essentially generate an income source for the company (similar to mining bitcoin I think.) As you explore the facility signs with the room number will get hijacked with lines like "I just want to paint landscapes again", "I'm sorry", and "Please die. For my sake" and I just. I hope they both get out of there. I think they could use each other's company. Sebastian saving P.ai.nter from being forced to work and P.ai.nter keeping Sebastian's spirit up in what feels like a hopeless situation, reminding him of what waits above the ocean waves for them
