Post LADS Main Story: NonMC Reader x Sylus

So I had a thought again: you being reincarnated into the world of LADS, but after the story ends. Ever is no more. Wanderers have been cured and don't exist anymore. The world is relatively peaceful.

MC has found her happy ending with one of the boys, something you find out during a stroll in Linkon City. And it's not Sylus.

I was thinking it would be Xavier for the angst factor. Because, to Sylus, she chose the prince of the people that caused him so much pain over him. She chose the light Xavier represents over his darkness. She chose someone who, in Sylus' mind, was born with everything over him who worked to get everything he has for her sake.

Or maybe she chose Caleb. And that would hurt too because Sylus realizes that while they only had each other in the past, she overlooks that for her present. That their history isn't nearly as valuble as her history with Caleb.

Either way, it causes sad boy hours. The man is devasted. And while he and MC still have a friendship, it's a bit toxic. No longer do they play Kitty Cards or spend time at the claw machine. With the new love in her life, all that's left for Sylus is scraps.

She uses him. Calls him when she needs something or she wants to do something. But if it's him? She blows him off. She treats him like a joke.

Maybe not even truly realizing that she is (but part of me wants to go the bitch route because I've made her so nice in all my other current works and WIPs; I blame @rcvcgers for this (I say this with love, because I honest to god love Rotten Apples), and need to channel that anger).

Then it gets worse: he dies. She remembers her past with him, and gives back the other half of his soul. And then she turns her back on him for good, cutting ties because their morals are just incompatible. He's so devasted that he takes his own life, no longer immortal because his sorceress abandoned him (just like everyone else did).

But anyways, you figure this out, and basically come barging into his life. Not to make him love you. Not to get her to love him. But to give him something to latch onto.

Let's say Sylus was your favorite in the game (as he is for me, clearly), so you act like a total, batshit crazy, fan girl. And there's something about that crackhead energy that makes him drawn to you.

So you bug him. And bug him. And bug him endlessly. Because even annoyance and anger are better than emptiness and coldness he carries right now. Sure, he hides it well behind snark and flirting, but you know him better. You've watched him from behind a scene for quite some time.

I imagine the reason you're kept around is because of the chaotic nature of who you are and the knowledge you have. And because Sylus doesn't have it in him to give a shit. You're not a threat. If anything, it was the twins that convinced him of your use.

So you live at the base, occassionally witnessing the toxic nature of him and MC's dynamic. And you come up with a plan to help him get over her. Not by making him love you, you'd never be worthy of that, but of getting him to realize that his sorceress is dead. That even it's technically the same the person in soul, she's not the same at her (Aether) core.

Doing so makes you fall even further in love. You discover things about him a simple game could never. You see sights and experience parts of this world that could never captured by a screen or some code. And it hurts.

It hurts because he's more than just a character to you. He cares for you, is soft with you. He buys you things, helps braid your hair, takes you to fancy venues, stands up for you, protects you... You almost think that he loves you.

But that's silly. Who would love you? Who would love the real you, and not the one you present to the world? The one that cries at nothing? The one consumed by anxiety and insecurity? The one that hides under layers and layers of walls capped off by an impenetrable mask? The one that hid herself and changed herself for so many years? The one you're not even sure still exists?

You're such a fraud.

A great question was asked on our server: “Would antis love Alina so much and hate Aleksander if the two were genderbent?” I responded briefly there, but a dear friend @is-today-tomorrow-in-nz suggested I might do a Tumblr post about it, so I'm expanding on my thought here as well. It made me reflect on the huge hypocrisy we often see from Aleksander’s antis. They are quick to condemn him while making excuses for everything Alina does, even when her choices are just as destructive or reckless. She burns maps, which directly leads to the deaths of everyone on the skiff. She destroyed the Fold in a way that will likely leave Ravka exposed to enemy invasion, practically opening the borders for the enemy armies. What follows could easily be a massacre of Grisha and civilians alike. But somehow, these consequences are glossed over or reframed as heroism.

Now imagine if Aleksander had been written as a woman. A powerful Grisha who lived through centuries of war, loss, and terror. Someone who did everything in her power to protect her people from genocide, even when it meant crossing dangerous lines. Many of the same people who now hate him would admire her. They would say she was tragic. Forced to make impossible decisions. Carrying the weight of the world alone. They would say that creating the Fold was terrible, yes, but understandable. She would be called a girlboss, a warrior queen, a survivor. People would write long posts about how she was demonized for using power in a man’s world. They would weep over her loneliness, her trauma, her desire for control shaped by fear and love. Her story would be seen as emotional and layered.

Now reverse it. Imagine a male version of Alina. A chosen boy, gifted with light. He learns he’s special, believes he’s meant to save the world. But the first thing he does is try to kill the woman who’s been defending their people for generations. He calls her a monster. He lets his friend shoot her. He watches others hunt her and does nothing to stop them. He betrays her feelings. And when she’s at her weakest, worn down by merzost, when she is broken and defenseless, he stabs her in cold blood. He doesn’t even flinch. He mocks her when she calls him her saint. He gives her self-glorifying words and a blade to the chest. Would we still call him a hero? Would people write about how brave he was for ending her life?

I really don’t think so.

Aleksander is morally grey. No one denies that. But his antis always demand that he be flat and one-note. They treat him like he is evil for the sake of evil, ignoring everything that shaped him. At the same time, Alina is constantly given a free pass. She can betray, she can lie, she can hurt, and it is still labeled as strength or growth. Aleksander’s love is twisted into manipulation. Alina’s cruelty is dressed up as empowerment. His loneliness is seen as something he deserves. Hers is framed as tragic. He is hated for being morally complex. She is celebrated for being ruthless when it fits the narrative.

This is a clear double standard.

It’s not about saying that Alina shouldn’t be criticized. It’s about the fact that Aleksander is almost never given the same space in the narrative. He’s not allowed fear, heartbreak, or even love without it being weaponized against him. But if the roles were reversed, those same traits would be seen as powerful. This shows how selective antis still are when it comes to who deserves empathy and depth in storytelling. And all too often, it comes down to gender.

Let's say, if a person is really interested in researching Lucifer, what would be a perfect way to start? What topics to research, in which Gods to look into?

Also, let's say I am the person. I got really interested in Lucifer and His domains, but I don't feel connection with Him himself. I am really into understanding Him, though, in all His faces, angelic, infernal, greek, roman and any other possible way (also, because He is often connected to queer people and coming from conservative country and coming as queer person from there, I look for something to unlearn shame and being more comfortable with myself and others, I was hoping to find it in Him and/or Dionysos-Bacchus). I always got the feeling that to understand Him fully you need to had some kind of connection to Christianity, because I noticed that most of people turn to Him as for better option rather than christian God. I never had experience with Christianity, so I never felt any need to reject it to find something better. Thank you for your answer, you are great person and it feels awesome to read your blog.

I could literally yap about this all day but I'm going to try to stay pretty locked in and concise with this.

For the sake of simplicity and your own headache, I encourage you to think of Luciferian archetypes as masks that a deity may or may not be using based on context. I say this because 1. there are many different Lucifer, whether or not they are literally the exact same "guy" is unknowable, and you will give yourself a headache trying to concretely answer that question either way; and 2. because Lucifer approaches everyone differently. The Lucifer you interact with will depend highly on your beliefs, disciplines, and desires.

There are multiple ways wee can go about this, there is no perfect way. I would first employ you to ask yourself if:

You are looking to interact with a Lucifer that is aligned with Satan

You are looking to interact with a Lucifer that is pre or post biblical

The aspect of the Lucifer you're looking to interact with- Infernal, angelic, primordial, Venusian, phosphoric etc.

I'll break these down in order.

Is your Lucifer Satan? If yes, you're probably a theistic satanist and I would imagine that your Lucifer is largely based on the Christian archetype of Lucifer. Is this incorrect? Absolutely not, Lucifer most certainly does have a real archetype as the fallen angel described in Christianity. If you approach him with this understanding, you likely will get a response.

You will likely hear that Lucifer isn't actually the Christian devil, that his inclusion in the bible is a translational error. That is technically speaking, correct. The original intention of the biblical text was not in reference to an angel but rather the Babylonian king. HOWEVER,

Lucifer's mythos as a fallen angel, a ruler of hell, an adversary, as it had later gone on to largely influence Christianity is still very much valid in my opinion, and I very much believe that that Lucifer is alive.

If this is the Lucifer you're interested in, I'd recommend researching Lucifer Ha Satan, Lucifer the Dark Initiator, Lucifer the Adversary, Ruler of Thaumiel (if you're into the qliphoth), The anti-God, the Liberator (particularly from religious shackles.) This is in the realm of traditional satanism and inversion of religious authority and rituals. You'll see a lot of these rituals written backwards, end with "Nema" instead of "Amen". I myself am not a Satanist nor do I really worship Lucifer as the devil so I don't have that many book recs, but the works of Michael Ford explores the syncretism of Luciferian and Satanic ideology. I would also highly recommend "Lucifer A Devotional" by Kindra Ravenmoon, one of my favorite books I've ever bought even as a Luciferian. For mythos I highly highly highly cannot highly enough recommend reading "Paradise Lost" by John Milton.

If your Lucifer is not Satan, then move on to the next question, is your Lucifer pre or post biblical?

I would not say that one necessarily has to have any connection to Christianity to engage with Lucifer and Luciferianism. Lucifer’s inclusion in the Bible does not mean that the Bible is the first place we’ve ever seen the Lucifer archetype, you probably already know this.

Our most ancient understanding of a Lucifer archetype and energy is based on the Sumerian Inanna and Akkadian Ishtar. Inanna is the very first place we see a myth about the morning star rising to heaven and then falling to the underworld. Inanna was specifically a deity associated with transformation, resurrection, war, and rebellion hundreds of years before the bible or Abrahamic religion was conceived of. 

Attar (ʿAthtar) – The Canaanite and Arabian Morning Star God Canaanite and South Arabian deity associated with the morning star. He was a warrior god of storms and fertility, often linked to both Baal (Hadad) and Ishtar/Inanna, and is considered an early influence on later depictions of the fallen Morning Star, Lucifer in Judeo-Christian tradition. Attar was the male counterpart of Astarte (Ishtar), the goddess of love, war, and Venus. He was often depicted as a failed usurper of the high god’s throne, much like the later Christian legend of Lucifer’s fall.

One of the most significant myths about Attar describes him attempting to take the throne of Baal after Baal’s death. Attar tries to rule from Mount Zaphon, the cosmic mountain of the gods. However, he is too weak to hold the throne. He is forced to descend and instead rules over the underworld and lower realms. This mirrors the later Biblical story of Lucifer, who:

Tries to exalt himself above God (Isaiah 14:12-15). Is cast down from heaven when he fails. The Isaiah 14 passage ("How you have fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of the Dawn!") likely draws on the older Attar myth and blends it with Canaanite theology to critique the king of Babylon. Interpretations argue on whether Attar chose to leave, or was too inadequate to lead. Attar’s story predates and likely influenced later depictions of Lucifer:

Both are Morning Star figures who attempt to ascend but are cast down. Both are associated with kingship, rebellion, and failure. Both end up ruling lower realms instead of heaven.

Attar, as a Venusian deity, fits into the larger Near Eastern tradition of the Morning Star as an unstable, liminal figure—sometimes divine, sometimes fallen, always in flux. This ambiguity and transformation later shaped the mythos of Lucifer, who inherited Attar’s Venusian identity, failed kingship, and descent. One very important aspect of Attar and Ishtar’s descent is the concept of survival after exile. Both have a catastrophic fall from grace only to emerge stronger than before- a spiritual resurrection. To learn more about this aspect of Lucifer you're going to want to explore Canaanite mythology.

In Greek mythology, Phosphorus (or Eosphoros, "Dawn-Bringer") was the personification of the Morning Star (Venus). His counterpart, Hesperus (Ἕσπερος, "Evening Star"), represented the same celestial body when it appeared at dusk. The cult of Phosphorus was small and fringe, both Eosphoros and Hesperus are very seldom mentioned in any surviving Greek texts.

Hesperus (Ἕσπερος) however is said to be the father of the Hesperides. The Hesperides, the daughters of Hesperus were nymphs who tended the golden apples of immortality in a garden at the western edge of the world- the direct opposite direction of Lucifer’s East. The golden apples guarded by the Hesperides mirror the Tree of Knowledge, with both representing divine wisdom that is forbidden yet desirable. The fruit was a gift from Gaia to Hera. The Hesperides were also guarded themselves by a 100 headed a serpent-like dragon named Ladon, who coiled around the tree, preventing mortals from stealing its golden fruit. In Christian mythology, the Garden of Eden also features a serpent entwined in a tree, tempting humanity with knowledge and self-awareness.

Phosphorus is highly syncretized with the Roman Lucifer, of course, and is distinctly different from a Satan archetype as the god of light bringing and enlightenment in a more literal way. Not demon nor angel, but a God himself, of transformation and resurrection. A sprit of the element of Air. The Gnostics interpret this idea in an interesting way, I highly recommend researching Gnostic Luciferianism for a blend between Christian ideas and older pagan concepts.

Prometheus is also a deeply Luciferian figure in Greek mythology.

To learn about the cult of Phosphorus and Luciferianism as it pertains to him in this aspect, I'd recommend reading "Lucifer Princeps" by Peter Grey, "The Order of Phosphorus" by Michael W. Ford, and the many works of the Temple of the Ascending Flame, and "Awakening Lucifer" by Asenath Mason & Bill Duvendack,

3. Aspect

I think this is the most important thing to consider. The aspect of Lucifer you invoke at any given time may change. You may wish to invoke a pre fall Helel/ Lucifer to bring pure heavenly light, in which case you would be referencing his angelic aspect, using his angelic enn: "Agios Es Lucifer Divum Et Vorsipelle"

If we want Lucifer the red dragon, the draconian fire, the phoenix, the serpent, the tempter, we may use his infernal enn: "Renich Tasa Uberaca Biasa Icar Lucifer

A more primordial or venusian Lucifer may blend into more Aphrodisian methods and manifestations.

Tldr. I recommend just pinpointing which face you're interested in and moving outwards from there. The ones that work work and the ones that don't don't.

Techno obsesses over it. He sits in his room for hours, mindlessly twisting a bit of leather or a knife in his hands as he stares at the wall, fixated. He stares and stares, replaying every moment in his head, unable to do anything but ask a million questions. Could he have done better? Could he have appreciated them more? Why didn’t he? Why didn’t he save them, why didn’t he do better? He can’t eat or sleep, stuck, constantly looping thoughts and questions and self-aimed accusations.

Ranboo embraces it. They sit at the gravestone, freshly picked flowed in hand. He goes to have tea with them every Sunday, talking about his week and the more lighthearted antics of everyone on the server. They press a kiss to the stone when it’s time to leave, promising to be back soon and bring those scones they really like. He welcomes the grief like a tired old friend, letting it harbor and live in his heart until its ready to move on.

Tommy isolates it. He pulls away from everything, locks himself in his little space to greedily clutch that grief close. He can’t risk getting close to someone again, not so soon. He can’t let go of the pain, because he fears then the person and the memories will leave with it. He needs them, needs them, and they left without any fucking consideration for him. They left, just like everyone does, and Tommy can’t even pester them to get them back.

I feel like lazy make out sessions with him usually happen during gloomy or winter days, as he thinks it feels the most romantic that way. He would be the one to initiate them by doing seemingly innocent things that end with him pushing his tongue past your lips in no time.

We all have seen that fucking tongue of his. it's long, pointy, and he knows how to use it. he constantly sticks it out during performances, so I imagine him to be an absolute freak. He wins every battle for dominance, even at such slow paced moments.

Spit. SPIT. He loves when your make out sessions are messy, long strings of saliva forming whenever he detaches his plump lips from yours. He would randomly pull away just to stick his tongue out and let his spit slowly drip into your mouth, quickly getting back to business after.

Let's also mention that not every make out session with him is just lips. Oh no no, he is paying attention to everything. Sometimes he lowers himself and plants soft pecks against your neck. Sometimes he gently bites your earlobe, his warm breath tickling your skin. And sometimes he just smothers your whole face with smooches, grinning while he does so. He is a man of passion, but in these moments he just loves to chill out and show you love in a slightly different way.

Oh, and that smirk of his. He would grab different parts of your body unexpectedly, making you let out soft gasps that would trigger his cocky smile. Sometimes it'd be an innocent booty grab, but one second later his hand is slowly sliding under your shirt, his warm fingers exploring your body, getting closer to the sensitive areas on your chest.

After about half an hour, he will lose the ability to think straight. His hand would slide into your pants and quickly find your opening, slowly forcing two fingers into your tight hole. He would hit every sweet spot while still kissing you, getting "annoyed" and spanking you every time you get distracted by the pleasure.

maybe i already expressed specifically this amidst a thicket of tags but speaking of the Unexpected & Dynamic all throughout bsol's finale of a [hey all the characters are in the same place] beautiful stretch of vivacity, it's great that like. i mean one figures you're not gonna get [villain immediately kills hero] & you're right b/c that would be a surprise & slightly humorously so but too unrewarding in all other ways to be worth it as the end of a whole entire story & arcs here....but then the ways that banana has this like totally Self Imposed arc about wanting to be able to do whatever it takes to help the musician in return / in general, self imposed b/c the musician himself is like no you're good you're perfect my special little guy i will die without, & we're not exactly subject to any other characters' input like um btw banana you & your Failure to be as heroically bold & brave as to do whatever it takes, as the musician does, except when he feels he can't at some points including if he doesn't have banana with him on this journey, but not b/c he asks anything more of him but to be there with him on this journey....

someone lands onto your bed with an "oomph"

assuming it's wonwoo, for the third time, maybe coming to give you another souvenir, you wink an eye open. "you need something, won?" but instead your greeted with a sloppy, suspiciously wine tasting peck on the lips. oh lord.

you widen your eyes at the attack, staring at the culprit who pulls away with a dramatic "mwah!"

"chan? what are you doing? what if there's someone in here?" you ramble, sitting up properly to scan the room, accidentally knocking into chan's head in the process.

"ow! y/n～!," he sulks, "aren't you happy to see your boyfriend? what's with the aggression～"

thankfully, the room is empty, or at least you think so. it's basically pitch black save for the moonlight that peeks in through a sheer curtain. you turn your head back at chan, sighing when you can practically smell the wine coming off of him.

"you're so drunk, aren't you?" you ask, and all he does is nod in response, pushing you down onto your back and laying down next to you. normally, you'd nag him. you'd tell him that you've warned him about the damage he'd probably do to his career if he wouldn't stop downing glasses of wine like it's water, but it's not a normal day, so you hold back this time.

since the group's tour had started, you and chan had not gotten any time to yourselves whatsoever. and as much as you were thankful for the free trip to italy, it'd only prolonged the time till you could even kiss chan, let alone cuddle.

even if sharing the same bed was normal for the members, one of them nuzzling into your neck? yeah, probably not something you could pass off as platonic. and chan? he liked to do a whole lot of that.

speaking of the members, there's a faint sound of laughter and singing that is barely muffled by the closed door- a reminder of just how risky this whole situation is, but you try to ignore it for the sake of being able to enjoy this one moment.

chan shuffles around before rolling over so that half of his body is on yours. he snuggles into your chest, as expected, and closes his eyes.

"that wine was really good, though," he mumbles quietly, as if all the energy he had a minute ago just vanished into the warmth of your bed. you chuckle at his deliberation, pondering a bit yourself. "too bad i never got to try any, think i passed out right after the game." you respond, recalling most of the evening where you were given an hour to do a mission.

you failed (the mission being that you had to carry an egg on a spoon around the entire house without dropping it, but mingyu accidentally bumped into you...), but you were glad to see that chan had passed it (plus, it gave him a chance to give you a hug with no suspicion).

he hums. "well, do you wanna try some?" he asks, lifting his head to look at you. you blink a couple times, confused. "are you really going to go out there and try to lug back a bottle without them noticing you? because i’m not getting dragged into more karaoke.”

shaking his head slightly, he laughs, his voice vibrating against you. “no, i was thinking of something more like this,”

he pulls himself up so that he’s hovering over you. his eyes flicker over every feature of your face. you watch him, almost shuddering at his gaze. suddenly, you’re thankful for the lack of light, because you don’t want to imagine how red your face is; it’s been awhile since you and chan have been doing, well, whatever he’s doing.

before you can really ask about that, he captures your lips in a hungry kiss. you let your eyes flutter shut at the contact. the whole move is pretty cheesy, but the acidic taste of wine on his lips distracts you well enough to ignore the thought.

it’s an addicting flavor, and you swipe your tongue against his lips, greedily taking as much as he’ll give you.

it’s always moments like this where chan lets loose. normally, he’s shy about his love, even when you two are alone, so it’s always a surprise whenever he’s got alcohol in his system. it almost makes you forget that he’s the one who suggested keeping you two a secret.

he parts his lips, letting your tongue roam, sighing when he feels your hand cup the back of his neck and pull it closer to you.

you two don’t really keep track of how long this goes on for, both of you being dazed in some way. but finally, you pull back.

there’s a couple seconds of breathless panting before he grins at you. “taste good?”

you smile back, “eh, would probably be better from a glass”, laughing when he gives you a look of defeat and collapses next to you, quick to pull you back into his embrace.

by now, it’s probably some wild hour in the night, and you know that chan should head out before someone barges in to go to sleep, but he doesn’t seem to want to let go.

“chan,” you warn, looking up at him to find that he’s practically passed out already, eyes closed as he breathes shallowly. “chan, you should go.” you say, even though you don’t really want him to.

“i’ll be out before someone gets here, they’re all bound to just sleep on the ground at this rate,” he yawns, tightening his grip on you.

if you knew any better, you’d push him off the bed, but for right now, you choose to believe him and you fall asleep to the sound of his heart beat.

Repost because tumblr's tags were broken yesterday and it ate my post up 😞 Spoilers and translation notes for Rafayel's intertidal zone & analysis because it kinda floored me, I was just as a blank page as he was throughout this. I had to watch it like 5 times to understand what the story was saying and dig into chinese and japanese versions of this to piece together what was really happening. It may be my idiot brain not getting it and maybe it was like the easiest thing to understand for you but. Yeah. I may be just dumb LMFAO AND!!!! There's also a theory of mine into how Rafayel is actually able to read mc's mind/wishes through their lemurian bond, so stay tuned for that I guess

So Rafayel’s whole deal in this memory, I believe, is dependency. Like, too much intensity, too much need, too much fear -- about scaring her off, about what he sees himself possibly becoming in the future, overall just being too reliant on mc and getting scared by it.

Let's begin with this massive fear of being a taker, not just in the “I’m stealing someone’s fries” way, but in this existential, soul-deep kind of way where he’s terrified of turning everything he loves into something he exploits out of demand for his art. And yeah, it’s sad when you first hear him say it, but it’s also really interesting when you look at how this all ties into his relationship with MC and his inspiration source drying up because of her.

Before Rafayel became an artist, he looked at the world in this super pure, wholesome way. Sceneries and nature were just there, things to admire and feel awe over without needing to do anything about it. Like, imagine standing at the edge of a desert, looking at a sea that’s drying up. Sure, it’s tragic, but it’s also kind of beautiful in a raw, heartbreaking way. That’s how Rafayel saw things, he could appreciate them without feeling like he had to do anything.

But then Rafayel started creating, and suddenly, sceneries weren’t just sceneries anymore. They became inspiration. He wasn’t just admiring beauty, he was extracting something from it, its meaning, its pain, its soul, to turn into art for other people. And that made him feel all kinds of icky, because now he wasn’t just looking at the drying sea. He was taking from it. Just as he's using his people's pain in his art as well, that's also a thing.

Now let’s talk about MC. Rafayel loves her like he used to love those sceneries,,, in this pure, untainted way. There's a parallel here. But here’s the kicker, he’s not the same guy who can just admire something and leave it untouched anymore.

And suddenly, this is no longer only about losing inspiration for him.

This happens after he and MC get together, and it’s like all the pain and anguish that used to fuel his creativity just.. ... dries up. He can’t find that spark anymore because now his life is surrounded by love instead of suffering. In fact, his inspiration starts coming from her and it's starting to clash with how he makes art. In the phone call, he seeks her out and says he needs her so bad and she only needs to talk to help him out. This is the first wink wink nod nod of the story.

So what does Rafayel do? He goes on this big, dramatic trip to "find inspiration" (or at least his muse), but it’s not just about his art. He’s not just looking for inspiration, he’s trying to figure out how to be less dependent on her and becoming increasingly more restless over this. The temparature and physical discomfort is making things worse, he's anxiously overthinking, and imagine trying to fight this and the longest art block as of late off when all you want to do is indulge in this special person and be comforted like a lap cat all day every day.

He understands that if he lets himself indulge without restraint, one day his love for mc will turn into pure need. He’ll become more and more greedy, and he doesn’t want that and is afraid of being abandoned because of that growing neediness and dependency.

This is in relation to his art, because as @/dat-silvers-girl put in the comments, he's struggling with "the genuine fear of not being able to enjoy anything in life because all you're thinking about how to use it (as an artist)" . what if he starts doing this to her? to their love and relationship? take from her, and become someone who only takes in every area of life -- like someone who only exploits things by extracting what he feels about them to use it for his art. he's afraid of that, he doesn't like that and possibly doesn't like himself who does it. so why should she? she would leave him for sure, in his head, that's a solid reason to.

The first time around he brings up his anxiety about MC leaving him out of the inner realization of his dependency, the possibility of just what he can become, and fear of abandonment. she effortlessly soothes his worries. It's heavily implied they did it afterwards and after hearing "her life has already been consumed by him" he tweaked out a little bit and his "obsession" seeped through.

After it fades to black, he says ほら……僕もとっくに……君に侵食されてしまっているんだ…… which means "See... I've already been completely consumed by you too" in Japanese instead of the life being made a chaotic mess localization. While I think MC's line was jokey and lighthearted, I don't think this man is joking at all. Rafayel didn't say his life was consumed by her as well, he said HE was consumed. Ouh.

This took the edge off from him for a while but they hadn't gotten to the root of the problem yet, so he was back to square one after the memorial hall, because remember, he's trying to find inspiration as an act of making this dependency of his better. Pain and suffering are all around him here, which his inspiration feeds off of. The dried up ocean he could hear weakening, the skeleton of the whale, the burden of his people and homeland more prominent than before. And what does MC do? Tear through the perspective of pain and introduce a hopeful alternative, "Isn't it a surprise to see an ocean in the middle of the desert?"

This is a place that gave Rafayel the height of helplessness and suffering when he visited by himself before despite momentarily being hopeful after the locals told him such a place existed. But now, she was there to comfort him through his loneliness and pain, hug him, and give him hope yet again. He brings up how he wanted to come here with the most important person to him when he was still hopeful about it before consumed by the pain of it all, and that wish has been granted. That moment has to be so powerful for Rafayel. Literally light at the end of the tunnel.

It had me reeling that he just sat in the car after all that, staring at her for god knows how long until she woke up. He was probably overthinking again, but my interpretation that it was heavily emotional for him (it could have meant so little for MC but the world for him, she doesn't even know) and he wanted to be in that moment with her, just feel and look without restraint. Indulge a little. (I can just imagine him going just a little bit more, I'll go after she wakes up.) And like. His eyes are shining in the darkness is the description here. That’s why he makes an effort to actively wean himself off and says he'll be okay on his own. What he says to her after MC is like "spoiling him" being all "hey you're sick maybe don't go? or let's go together?" (which is NOT helping Rafayel at all) is even more meaningful in Japanese and I didn't know why they left out this context, but the rearranged line would be "Do you want me to become a sea creature beached on the sand after the sea recedes, unable to breathe on my own ever again?"

Yeah. YEAH. This is about dependency. (He's saying don't coddle me I'll literally become that wolf tearing his shirt meme 😭)

So of course his stubbornness and anxiety force him to do things without MC and distance himself, he can do it. He’s determined to prove to himself that he can endure it on his own.

I also feel like part of the reason he insisted on going to the salon alone is that he’s still worried mc might come to dislike the version of him who's someone he's so sure she will leave, who isn't perfect and he hides behind the persona he's put up just for her. If he truly becomes addicted to her and shows her everything/his true self, and she ends up leaving him, it would completely break him. He's trying to be like "im so normal about her haha" but he's so not normal about her at all. He's literally obsessed I feel like, and perhaps this is him fighting it knowing it's not healthy.

and OOOH about why he ends up coming back from the salon all hot and bothered.

I have strong context that she flicked the bean in there after he left her high and dry in the car ("hot water washes away the stickiness from my body and his stifled breaths still echo in my ears, enveloping me along with the steam in the bathroom. The warmth from his fingertips lingers in the places where he touched me..." is the english. however, in chinese, it goes "熱水洗去身上的黏膩，壓抑的喘息迴盪在我耳畔，和浴室裡氤氳的水氣一起包裹著我." stating "the suppressed breathing" -- which doesn't have any possessive adjectives when I translated it on google and later explicitly asked chatgpt if it had any his/my adjectives involved, just to be sure. it said no but i'd like it if a real chinese speaking person could give their input on this !!! PLEASE DONT LEAVE ME WITH CHATGPT

so um. if the context is in fact the case that he heard her masturbating to him, the intensity with which he attacked her would be normal, I think 😭

I have belief that MC unconsciously shatters his "training himself to be without her" determination through their bond. She just keeps thinking about him the entire time. about him reading her thoughts, though. we still don't know all about the lemurian bond they share. I’d say it grants him some sort of mind/heart reading ability or connects their minds together (when she was thinking about whether she should hug him, he answered “yes”).

At the salon, I imagine Rafayel was already thinking about her like crazy. Then he realized, or perhaps, "heard" she was still worrying about him and thinking of him (as much he thought about her) and decided to go back. Rafayel probably felt that suppressing himself was only making her more anxious and unsettled. She's thinking all about him, unconsciously calling to him to come to her, she didn't want to let him go at all, wanted to go with him, etc...

but even if it was his own decision and no mind reading was involved... uh. If you ask me. He did quite literally hear her after coming back. That's also something that might make him think she wants him as much as he wants her, which made his self-restraint utterly meaningless from the start.

Disregarding this theory of mine proven wrong until a Chinese speaker helps me out here, MC returned to Rafayel's room. A translation omission happened here from what I saw. There are no possessive adjectives in the Chinese text about the room she returns to, and the Japanese one states she returned to the guest room (doesn't specify which one. She was also able to enter Rafayel's room without needing to knock before.)

so uh. she went into rafayel's room y'all. the line "this is my room, you're the one who walked in here" MAKES SO MUCH MORE SENSE. (SO LIKE. NOT ONLY DID SHE GO INTO HIS ROOM, SHE FLICKED THE BEAN THERE AND HE POSSIBLY HEARD IT. SHE'S MORE OF A FREAK THAN HE IS, I UNDERSTAND WHY HE LET GO AFTER THAT LMFAO)

I don't put it past him to get worked up after he finds her in his room post-bath even without my theory lmfao (idk why they put her in a dress when she should be in a bathrobe or something 😭)

His conclusion at the end of this memory that "he finds inspiration in pain and the art of creation is a part of his life. mc made him realize love and art are so alike. even if they don't complete him but burn him instead he wants them (love and art) with every fiber of his being" and MC says she doesn't like that, rightfully so.

So like. There's SO MUCH to unpack in here.

When Rafayel says he finds inspiration in pain and that creation is a part of his life, he’s admitting something raw and essential about himself: pain isn’t just a byproduct of his art, it’s intrinsic to it. For Rafayel, pain and art are intertwined in a way that’s almost inseparable. It’s like his muse isn’t just beauty, but beauty that hurts.

But then he takes this further by connecting art to love. He’s realized that both art and love demand the same from him: vulnerability, passion, and sometimes suffering. They don’t necessarily complete him (he’s not romanticizing them as salvation), but they burn him, wear him down, consume him (coincidentally, this is something he said to MC in the JP dub of this memory, that she consumes him), but also give him life. And for Rafayel, that’s the crux, even if they burn him, he wants them with every fiber of his being.

This is such a Rafayel thing to say. It’s dramatic, it’s tortured, but it’s also deeply SUBTLE. He doesn't spell all of these out, mind you, I got a headache trying to understand him. Or I'm just slow, I don't know. It shows how much he values creation and connection, even if they come at a cost.

MC, on the other hand, challenges this perspective. When she says she doesn’t like that he views love and art as things that burn him, she’s pushing back against the idea that suffering is a necessary part of creation, or love. MC doesn’t want Rafayel to see their relationship as something that requires him to hurt. She’s telling him, “You don’t have to destroy yourself to love me.”

When MC says, “You’ll never have to burn for me,” she’s giving Rafayel an alternative to his destructive mindset. She’s saying that love doesn’t have to hurt, that their relationship can exist without him sacrificing himself on the altar of passion. It’s a refusal to let Rafayel romanticize pain as the price of love.

And I love that Rafayel goes, "Will you help me look for other parts in life outside of pain?" in response. This is NOT about art or inspiration anymore, and the way the dialogue is written is just AUGH. Again I had to rewatch this over and over again for the nuances and subtext.

I love MC's response, she knew exactly what to say. “I’ll always be the one who walks along the shore with you. Of course, diving into the sea bed is fine too. If it can snow in the desert, there will be a day when the ocean returns.”

MC’s response is layered with metaphors, but at its core, it’s about unwavering support and hope::

Walking along the shore: This represents safety and companionship. MC is saying she’ll be with Rafayel in the calm, in the moments where they’re just observing life without diving into its depths. She’ll be his steady presence, his grounding force.

Diving into the sea bed: This is an acknowledgment that life and love sometimes require going deeper and they may go through hardships, into the unknown, the murky, the challenging. MC isn’t afraid of this, she’s willing to go there with him too.

Snow in the desert and the ocean’s return: This is a symbol of hope and transformation beyond being a nod to The Sea of Golden Sand. Snow in the desert seems impossible, just like the idea of Rafayel finding inspiration outside of pain might feel impossible to him. But MC believes in the extraordinary, in change, and in the possibility that beauty and creation can exist outside of suffering.

Her words are a promise: she’s willing to stand by him, to face the unknown together, and to hold onto the belief that a new way of seeing the world is possible.

And Rafayel LOWKEY PROPOSES IN RETURN.

By saying “let’s watch the sea together,” he’s accepting MC’s offer of companionship and hope in the long run. He’s recognizing that life doesn’t have to be about diving into the depths alone, it can be about sharing the experience with someone else, even if it’s just standing on the shore and watching.

“Every sea”: This phrase is key. Rafayel isn’t just committing to one kind of life or one kind of inspiration, he’s opening himself up to all possibilities. Watching every sea means embracing all facets of life, whether they’re calm or turbulent, painful or beautiful. It’s a marriage proposal declaration that he’s ready to explore the world beyond pain, with MC by his side.

So. I love that his inspiration returns after his freak is accepted by MC because he literally feels the acceptance through the bond.

I think Riddle is one of the most reluctant to have children

for years he was strictly against them. his excuses were always that children are messy, unruly, his career, his relationship with you... but he was mostly just afraid of turning into his mother

as he gets older and forms his own identity, though, he realizes that it takes a lot of intentional effort to fuck up a child like his mom did, and he changes his mind

I can see him with... maybe two kids

he would never want an only child. after all, the bonds he made with his peers are what kept him going

he is a pretty good parent overall. maybe a little to focused on bedtimes and table manners, but the kids don't seem to mind
