The Winchester House, everything about it, and its entire relationship to Nate. 

The complex rules and magical constraints/potential of metaphysical contamination.

Honorable mention: Lucifer’s plans with the Gods.

But also actually: The Winchester House.

What bit of foreshadowing (if any) did you miss the first time around that really jumped out at you on a reread?

The set up for the church paradox. 

Cas, post fall, fever dream, almost dying locked in that cabin bedroom, the unnamed goddess calling him in spirit yet somehow physically into that Church.

Dean, post infection, fever dream, almost dying locked in that cabin bedroom, Cas accidentally calling him in spirit yet somehow physically into that Church. 

All of time and space converging. Dean is the impossible, he was never supposed to be in this universe, Cas accidentally binding them together with those sigils, allowing Cas to connect with Dean in the first place, and also making Dean invisible to Lucifer while he’s physically in that cabin, which he technically is, thus allowing him to shield Lia and thus her able to get him into that church where he and Cas manage to do something and erase the kids' (and both of their) minds. 

There is so much meat there, and every time you re-read there is more. There is so much cool foreshadowing with ALL the players involved, and I literally put together another thread in that during EVERY read-through. 

Someone once asked me my thoughts on what we know happened in the church and it got to 19 pages in google before I had to cut it off pending another re-read of book 4.

When did you first start reading it?

It’s hard to remember just because the last three years are a fuzzy mess, but I’m pretty sure I started reading it late 2021/early 2022. I am a fast reader so I demolished it VERY fast. 

When did you first realize how hooked you where with DtA? Was it from moment one? Was there a specific scene? 

After Cas and Dean started properly working together in book 1 I was pretty on board, but once they told Chuck and started their trips into Kansas City, that was when it really settled in and I knew I was about to read the entire thing.

If there could be a in-depth prequel written for any of the characters, who's past would you be the most interested in exploring?

Joe or Teresa. Honestly though I’d really like to see the case Dean worked down by the border. 

If you had to, what would you ranking be of the books?

This is a slim AF margin too, because they’re all so good. But I think it’d be 3,1,4,2 So “A Thousand Lights in Space” “Map of the World” “Game of God” “It’s the Stars That Lie” But it's real neck and neck for the last three.

How many times have you read it all the way through?

Books one and two I have read cover to cover 6 or 7 times, three I probably read a couple more. Book four I’ve actually only read completely cover to cover once, but I have read a lot of it out of order a couple more times. I’m trying to get my fics to a bit more of a stable point so I can re-read it again in case I go off the rails hyper-fixation on it again. I’ll probably read it twice in a row when I read it this next time.

Did reading DtA help inspire your own The End fic?

No, it hindered it greatly. The world building in DtA is very contrary to the plot I have for my endverse fic, and it took a while for my brain to reset and be like “Nope, this is what I’m doing, put that out of your mind.” If I hadn’t read DtA, you’d already have my Endverse fic, because I started writing it before reading that, and had to stop work for straight up like a year. 

What of the many burning questions currently unanswered do you want answered first?

WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED INSIDE THE DAMN CHURCH!?!?!?

What's the most interesting non-SPN related fact that DtA taught you?

Graphene and everything about it.

If normal SPN team free will read/watch/found out about the DtA what do you think their reactions would be?

I think none of them would have any idea what to do with it. Cas would therefore not have much outward expression, Sam would be incredibly awkward and only a little insulted he isn’t in it, and Dean would be 10/10 defensive AF. 

What's a scene/interaction that still scratches the brain itch?

The Winchester Hou- Cas accidentally calling Dean when he’s using Allison as a conduit for the kids in Ichabod, and subsequently their interactions after Cas figures out what happened. 

Close seconds are Cas and Dean’s interaction after Dean gets bit in the courtyard, Cas searching Kansas City with his mind after Dean touched The Ick™. 

And yes actually the retelling of Nate’s interactions with The Winchester House.

Have you read The Forever King spin-off series? If so, what are your thoughts?

I have not read it yet, I must at some point. I know I’ll like it.

about to start reading dta after having been mostly away from this fandom in over two years now. i say mostly because you never really escape the rot. deactivated and then moved to a new blog but i’m sure we were mutuals when i was an active part of the fandom. any tips? not sure what i’m about to face

oh wow the rot never really goes away huh. i’m so happy to welcome you to agincourtie nation! first off i don’t know how long it’s been since your last 5x04 viewing but watching that before starting dta is always a good idea just to get into the groove.

secondly. you gotta stick to it. map of the world will probably be confusing on the first read, there’s a lot of exposition happening and a lot of two men talking to at each other. there’s a podfic version on ao3 that helped me a lot. i feel so bad always making this disclaimer about map of the world, this was just my personal experience AND on the second read i did think it was great american literature that should be taught in schools. so basically stick to it and everything (mostly) will be explained plus after you’re done you get to read book 2 my beloved<3

Story: Axle was raised by himself and knows everything there is to know about the ocean. He grew up hiding in the reefs because he was scared of everything. He never met any other dragons, and when he was 3, group of Sharkands (Some random new species I made, I guess) moved in and he didn't know how to talk to him. They felt bad for him, being all alone, and took him in. They taught him how to speak dragon and English. He started wandering off more and more, farther and farther. Then one day, he got caught in a strong current that took him miles away from them, to a small island. He was scared, in an unknown place. He started wandering around, figuring out where the best spots were. He started to live there, and made friends with some of the creatures living there. But he still has never stopped looking for his family.

MAY yippie!! toontown oc! was playing ttcc w/shard and co, this is the character i ended up making i also got covid around april-march iirc so i was feeling horrid for a while (and the remaining symptoms didnt clear up till like june)

JUNE an oc i got years ago but didnt have the confidence to draw for a while lmao anyways i like her colors and shape, she's fun

JULY mandatory artfight posting this was one of the last ones i did! ocs belong to pookapooka and they were so fun to paint

idk if ill be doing artfight again tbh. ive been doing it consistently since sun vs moon but its honestly felt less fun ever since the tiktok invasion`and how ppls behavior has changed, and especially since the whole ownership thing that happened mid fight this year. AUGUST ring but hes going to jail (again but for real this time) the staxie monthly prompt was barbie mugshots but i . . . i did this with ring and lumos and promptly forgor to do this with cakes and ale like i was planning to lmfao im actually gonna watch the barbie movie tonight, renting it so i can watch it on the big tv (didnt watch in theaters bc expensive (movie tickets are generally 15-25 bucks in my area (compared to the 5-10 in my aunt's area (renting is cheaper per person)), and they changed the chairs to these weird uncomfy pleather recliners that make my skin crawl to "justify the price raise" + i hate sitting for more than an hour i need water, bathroom, stretch, and snack breaks))

SEPTEMBER ganache went over the hedge was very busy w/projects so i did little casual art this was inspired by me comparing the over the hedge version of supermarket by ben folds (upbeat & high energy) vs the one by the clash (melancholy + commercial-induced agony) ever since then i cant stop thinking abt how much the lemon demon guy's voice sounds like the fucking clash guy sdjkhfkjsd also over the hedge was one of my favorite movies as a kid and i watched it at least 10 times before we had to return the dvd to netflix. i also regularly played the flash games on the site until i forgot about it after finding out about miniclip + notdoppler from other kids and decided to use those for flash games instead bc more options lol

Charcherry Weekly - Issue 213

Hello everyone, Mage of Light Nick Card here. After a cool streak, its back to being hot again. Back to school is approaching and I can only hope these kids have proper transportation in time.

Since the incident at

The Archives,

there have been heightened concerns about the safety of The Railway, particularly from its workers. As a result, the workers of the Railway called for a strike.

Slowly but surely over the course of the week, stops and lines gradually went offline over the course of the week. Even the Ancient Quarry battle subway carriage joined the picket line! (I do wonder if it houses a rotom or something...)

This came to a head on thursday, when even the DTA lines began to go down in solidarity with the strikers, to the point that a number of DTA-funded assets were reverted to their initial state (particularly Charcherry North and The Park, the latter of which was no longer even open to the public due to past incident). The Railway Board then blamed the DTA for allegedly causing everything, which was the final straw.

It was only once all known lines went offline that a team could be assembled to negotiate with The Board in charge of The Railway. The team included Desertian President Witch of Time Katyleen "The Wolf" Kitten, Train driver Skye, as well as Winged Maid of Void Skye Macdonald, Desertian Government Union Steward Electrolis, Railway Union representative Jacob Richards, Your dear newsletter writer, and two private individuals, one of which was there at the request of the Queen of Air and Darkness Mab of the Winter court of the Fae. Train Driver Skye drove the party there in a void bus, to a void-y version of Milton Keynes in the middle of nowhere, only encountering a single (un)identifiable entity on the way there. Fortunately, Train driver Skye is also an excellent bus driver.

Eventually, the party arrived at the building where The Board resided. It was as if nobody had bothered to pay any of the bills for it ever. We entered the cold and dark building, finding great difficulty in ascending, due to the non-working elevator, as well as the rusted, locked, and blocked door to the stairs. Eventually, we managed to find a way to the stairs and begun climbing. It felt like it had taken forever. It was near the top that we met up with one of the private individuals, having been summoned by Winged Maid of Void Skye. We continued towards the top, where a monument to The Railway's progress and The Board's failures awaited us. We gazed upon it for a moment, preparing to enter

The Boardroom.

With confidence despite the darkness, we faced The Board together. The members of the Board introduced themselves as Jill Parsons, Jack Ford, and Dick Beeching. Katie had clearly done her homework, because she squarely schooled them on various topical incidents. Meanwhile, RWU rep. Jacob presented an absolute laundry list of every trial run that was determined a failure but was ignored by those in power. This caused The Board members to snap back, but your dear newsletter writer managed to say just the right thing to stop them in their tracks. By the grace of the Light that I am purview to, I revealed that they had in fact looked at the reports and ignored their warnings, with the intention to blame eachother to try and get out of harm's way. It managed to be so accurate that they instantly gave up and listened to our demands. It was also determined that The Board members weren't even among the living--they were a conglomerate of british rail spirits, comprised of all the grief of the Railway's past failures.

Determining that they no longer held any power over the Railway any longer, the party considered what to do with The Board. Eventually, it was decided that they would be sent to spend the rest of their afterlives in a dreambubble. The Skyes, Skitis (summoned last minute by Winged Skye), and a private individual handled the safe delivery together. Meanwhile, the rest of the party had to be evacuated from the now-crumbling building. Katie used her time powers to make an escape, using the anchor method to arrive back at Desertia Station. Apparently she must have picked up something from there to make the leap.

With The Board squarely defeated, we announced that the union had gained control of The Railway, thus ending the strike with all demands met.

Currently, The Railway is undergoing repairs to re-open as many lines as possible, within safe means. Negotiations and new contract drafting is currently underway between the DTA and the co-op Railway to decide how things will be handled from now on. It is likely that Queen Mab and/or her appointed representative will get involved at some point. Her Enigmatic Resiliency will also need to get involved for matters pertaining to SCART's connection to the greater railway.

In the meantime, please be patient with repairs and re-openings, its being worked on.

8x10: Torn and Frayed

Plot Synopsis:

Dean and Castiel try to rescue Samandriel from Crowley. Sam tries to decide whether or not he should continue hunting or be with Amelia.

Features:

Samandriel is tortured by Crowley, angels can be lobotomized and limited, Cas’ hobbies include healing babies in parks, Angels are still weird eldritch beings, burning bushes, Destiel team up, Angel operating systems,

My Thoughts:

In everything except the Amelia plot line (as always, why wasn’t she some kind of siren or other creature? Why are all her flashback scenes so fuzzy if there wasn’t unreliable memory shit going on?) this episode kicks total ass. We have Destiel investigation team up, we have Naomi, we have the blood coming out of the eye, we have the actor playing Samandriel doing an amazing job, we have Crowley when the show still gave him a sense of style and intrigue, we have the angel tablet revelation, we have angels as celestial computers with code that can be hacked. It’s a gift of an episode.

I’m going to very quickly talk about the things I don’t like so I can talk about the things that I do like. This is the same for the entire season, but Sam’s heel turn on all monsters being evil makes absolutely no sense for his characterization up to this point. After all, he sees himself as a monster pretty often, and he tries to do the most good that he can. I wish there had been some big event right after Dean went into purgatory. If Sam had slipped, started drinking demon blood again, and saw himself as a monster, his insistence that something monstrous can’t be good would be a lot more effective than it is when he’s just been hanging out with a random lady all year. Also, Jared can’t act and neither can the actress playing Amelia.

The angel lobotomy plotline is one that is actually really well paced and seeded compared to plotlines like this in other seasons. Compared to leviathans, which were introduced and became the season big bad over the course of 2 episodes (being introduced at the end of one and becoming season big bads at the start of the next), Naomi is introduced 3 episodes before it becomes clear the extent to which she is going to influence the rest of the season. We learn that angels can basically be hacked into revealing the secrets of their creation through someone else before it’s revealed that this has happened to Cas at least once before. And the cuts back and forth between her room and Earth are so smooth and fit together really well. Also, I love the halo imagery with Samandriel’s lobotomy. Very visually satisfying.

Season 8 was AMAZING for extremely effective queerbait. I always wonder what would have happened after/during Goodbye Stranger if it had actually been the last season.

“Hey, what do you say, this doesn't pan out, we head back to that beer-and-bacon happy hour about a mile back, huh?”

“I can't enjoy a world I need to save, Dean.”

15x09: The Trap

Plot Synopsis:

Sam and Eileen are faced with the brutal truth. Meanwhile Dean and Cass work together in the hopes of getting a step ahead of Chuck.

Features:

Captive in a casino, purgatory and leviathan blossoms, visions of the future, the peak of divorce arc, the drafts are memories, Sam loses hope, Jack is BACK baby.

My Thoughts:

The scenes with Sam and Eileen hit so much harder than the scenes with Sam and Amelia that it’s actually a little embarrassing. This is how you write a romantic subplot! She has to have some substance to matter to him!

That being said, I wish the scalpel scenes were gorier. Sam saying he’s going to bleed out while he’s got, like 3 tablespoons of blood on his shirt doesn’t really work.

When I first got back into Supernatural I thought people were exaggerating when they called it a divorce arc but these lines are so based around romantic relationships in North American media. “I left but you didn’t stop me”? Come on. And then it’s compounded by Sam seeing Chuck’s future. Dean’s turning point from caring about the world is explicitly him having to bury Cas in a Ma'lak box because of the mark, which is then compared to Sam losing Eileen. The parallels can’t really get any clearer than that.

An interesting thing about the future visions is that they have the same lens flares on lights that heaven had in Dark Side of the Moon in season 5. Not sure exactly how to parse that but I’m sure someone has a very compelling theory that I’d love to read.

The purgatory prayer gets me as hard if not harder than the confession. I don’t think I’ll be saying anything that hasn’t already been said, but he closes his eyes and makes himself vulnerable in a world where literally everything wants to kill him so that he can pray to Cas and apologize, because that is the number one priority for him in this moment. I like to think that he got down on his knees because he thinks that this will be the last time that he ever prays and he’s going to do it right. And then he doesn’t even go down on both knees, he goes on one like it’s a proposal. Insane acting choice from thee vessel Jensen Ackles. And then another insane choice to look disappointed when Cas stops him from saying whatever he was going to say before they go through the portal. Because if he was going to apologize again, he already knows that Cas heard it, you’d think he would be relieved. He was going to say something new.

There’s also something super romantic about Cas barely getting away from these eldritch horrors that are chasing him, and sitting down and waiting for Dean instead of going through the portal and waiting for him in safety.

DTA theory

Alison needs a Faraday cage or something similar in order to rest her psychic abilities

Cas mentioned that elevator kinda function as Faraday cages

There is a non-functioning elevator in the infirmary being used as a medicine cabinet

Therefore, I think that if their current plan didn't work, and they still haven't constructed the Faraday cage, they'll just temporarily make Alison stay in that elevator/medicine cabinet.

Very inconsequential theory but idk. Been in mind ever since agincourt daily.

oooh i forgot about the non-functioning elevator this sounds super plausible also not to make everything about cas but what if he has to get into the faraday cage with (or without) alison for some reason... nightmare scenario. don't panic.
