Cinnamon has been long used around the world in both sweet and savoury dishes and drinks.
But a new TikTok trend claims adding a teaspoon of cinnamon to your daily coffee (and some cocoa to make it more palatable) for one week can help you burn fat. Is there any truth to this?
Not All Cinnamon Is the Same
There are two types of cinnamon, both of which come from grinding the bark of the cinnamomum tree and may include several naturally occurring active ingredients.
Cassia cinnamon is the most common type available in grocery stores. It has a bitter taste and contains higher levels of the active ingredient cinnamaldehyde, a compound that gives cinnamon its flavour and odor. About 95 percent of cassia cinnamon is cinnamaldehyde.
The other is Ceylon cinnamon, which tastes sweeter. It contains about 50 to 60 percent cinnamaldehyde.
Does Cinnamon Burn Fat? What Does the Research Say?
A review of 35 studies examined whether consuming cinnamon could affect waist circumference, which is linked to increased body fat levels. It found that daily doses of cinnamon below 1.5 grams (around half a teaspoon) decreased waist circumference by 1.68 centimeters (0.66 inches). However, consuming more than 1.5 gram a day did not have a significant effect.
A meta-analysis of 21 clinical trials with 1,480 total participants found that cinnamon also reduced body mass index (BMI) by 0.40 kilograms per square meter and body weight by 0.92 kilograms (2.0 pounds). But it did not change the participants’ composition of fat or lean mass.
Another umbrella review, which included all the meta-analyses, found a small effect of cinnamon on weight loss. Participants lost an average of 0.67 kg and reduced their BMI by 0.45 kg/m².
So overall, the weight loss we see from these high-quality studies is very small, and mostly with no change in body composition.
The studies included people with different diseases, and most were from the Middle East or the Indian subcontinent. So we can’t be certain we would see this effect in people with other health profiles and in other countries. They were also conducted over different lengths of time, from two to six months.
The supplements were different, depending on the study. Some had the active ingredient extracted from cinnamon, others used cinnamon powder. Doses varied from 0.36 g to 10 g per day.
They also used the two different types of cinnamon—but none of the studies used cinnamon from the grocery store.
How Could Cinnamon Result in Small Amounts of Weight Loss?
There are several possible mechanisms.
It appears to allow blood glucose (sugar) to enter the body’s cells more quickly. This lowers blood glucose levels and can make insulin work more effectively.
It also seems to improve the way we break down fat when we need it for energy.
Finally, it may make us feel fuller for longer by slowing down how quickly the food is released from our stomach into the small intestine.
What Are the Risks?
Cinnamon is generally regarded as safe when used as a spice in cooking and food.
However, in recent months the United States and Australia have issued health alerts about the level of lead and other heavy metals in some cinnamon preparations.
Lead enters as a contaminant during growth (from the environment) and in harvesting. In some cases, it has been suggested there may have been intentional contamination.
Some people can have side effects from cinnamon, including gastrointestinal pain and allergic reactions.
One of the active ingredients, coumarin, can be toxic for some people’s livers. This has prompted the European Food Authority to set a limit of 0.1 mg per kg of body weight.
Cassia cinnamon contains up to 1 percent of coumarin, and the Ceylon variety contains much less, 0.004 percent. So for people weighing above 60 kg, 2 teaspoons (6 g) of cassia cinnamon would bring them over the safe limit.
What About the Coffee and Cocoa?
Many people may think coffee can also help us lose weight. However there isn’t good evidence to support this yet.
An observational study found drinking one cup of regular coffee was linked to a reduction in weight that is gained over four years, but by a very small amount: an average of 0.12 kg (0.26 lbs).
Good-quality cocoa and dark chocolate have also been shown to reduce weight. But again, the weight loss was small (between 0.2 and 0.4 kg) and only after consuming it for four to eight weeks.
So What Does This All Mean?
Using cinnamon may have a very small effect on weight, but it’s unlikely to deliver meaningful weight loss without other lifestyle adjustments.
We also need to remember these trials used products that differ from the cinnamon we buy in the shops. How we store and how long we keep cinnamon might also impact or degrade the active ingredients.
And consuming more isn’t going to provide additional benefit. In fact, it could increase your risk of side effects.
So if you enjoy the taste of cinnamon in your coffee, continue to add it, but given its strong taste, you’re likely to only want to add a little.
And no matter how much we’d like this to be true, we certainly won’t gain any fat-loss benefits by consuming cinnamon on doughnuts or in buns, due to their high calorie count.
If you really want to lose weight, there are evidence-backed approaches that won’t spoil your morning coffee.

[ID: Whole spices including cloves, cinnamon, long pepper, and nutmeg in a small bowl. End ID.]
Mekelesha / መከለሻ (Ethiopian finishing spice blend)
Mekelesha wot is a finishing spice blend, added to dishes towards the end of cooking time so that the heat does not destroy their aromatics. Each cook adjusts their mekelesha blend to their own taste, but they usually include six or seven spices: Ethiopian false cardamom, long pepper, cumin, cloves, black pepper, and sometimes nutmeg.
Mekelesha adds complexity, intensity, and freshness to Ethiopian dishes, especially if made from whole spices at home. Also try it in other dishes such as kebabs, barbecue sauces, roasted vegetables, cooked salads, and more.
Recipe under the cut!
Patreon | Tip jar
Ingredients:
2 Tbsp Ethiopian false cardamom (korerima / ኮረሪማ; Aframomum melegueta), or substitute green cardamom
2 Tbsp (17g) Ethiopian long pepper (timiz / ጥምዝ; Piper capense)
1 1/2 Tbsp black pepper (kundo berbere)
1 Tbsp (7g) cumin seeds (kemun / ከሙን)
1 Tbsp (5g) whole cloves (krenfud / ቅርንፉድ)
4-inch chunk (5g) Ceylon cinnamon, or substitute cassia
1 nutmeg, crushed (optional)
See the notes at the end for a detailed description of spices and substitutions.
Instructions:
1. Toast whole spices one at a time in a small, dry skillet over medium heat. Toast each spice until it is fragrant, 30 seconds to 2 minutes; larger spices will take longer than smaller seeds. Set spices aside on a large plate and allow to cool.
2. Grind all spices in a coffee grinder or spice mill and filter through a fine mesh sieve. Store in an airtight container out of direct sunlight.
Notes on spices:
Korerima
Tumblr media
Korerima is also known as “grains of paradise,” “black cardamom,” or “false cardamom.” Some recipes mistakenly call for Nepal cardamom in place of korerima, because Nepal cardamom is also known as “black cardamom” in English. The aroma of korerima once ground, though, is much more akin to that of green cardamom than to the smoky, camphorous aroma of Nepal cardamom.
Ceylon cinnamon
Tumblr media
Ceylon or true cinnamon is a variety of cinnamon commonly grown in Ceylon, Sri Lanka; it has a subtler, more nuanced and less bitter flavor than cassia cinnamon. Because it must be rolled by hand (unlike cassia cinnamon, which curls naturally), it tends to be more expensive than cassia. If you can’t locate any Ceylon cinnamon, though, cassia is a good substitution.
Long pepper / timiz
Tumblr media
Long pepper is the dried berries of Piper capense, also known as African long pepper or Ethiopian long pepper. Piper capense grows across west Africa, south Africa, and the horn of Africa. It is smoky, camphorous, and resinous, not as spicy or sharp as black or white pepper. Piper longum (Indian or Bengal long pepper) berries, which are sharper in taste, are best known for their cultivation in Southeast Asia, but they are also grown and eaten in East Africa and may also be referred to as “timiz.” In the U.S. and Europe, Ethiopian long pepper may be found online, or at a speciality African foods store, where it will be labelled “timiz”; Indian long pepper may be found at an Indian or halaal grocery store, where it will be labelled "long pepper" or “pipli.”
If you can't find timiz, substitute 1 Tbsp black peppercorns and 1 Tbsp white peppercorns.

Random Opinions on Magical Shit
With magic, the circumstances of one's birth are (virtually) irrelevant and don't affect anything. Nobody is born more or less magical than anybody else. I do believe in one exception: the seventh child of a seventh child. The seventh son of a seventh son is supposed to be a Healer, while the seventh daughter of a seventh daughter is a Seer. I don't believe these things are tied to sex, but I do believe the seventh child of a seventh child has some extra potential in these areas. My mother is the 7th of a 7th and she is the most powerful witch I have ever met. (I'm a little jealous, but she also faces greater challenges than me, so....)
"There are no rules, do what you want" is nothing more than a way to justify cultural appropriation. In my experience, the only way people who approach magic like this have even marginal success is because they do so many things that one of them is bound to work. Additionally, if anything goes, then nothing matters, and you really don't even need to do magic because what's the point?
Similarly, if you take a concept from an established practice/culture/tradition, strip it of its actual meaning and context, then say that it only means what you say it means, you are being hella disrespectful and I wish you a life of stepping on Legos. You're literally saying that the original culture/tradition/practice didn't know what they were talking about in their own practice, that you know better than they do, and that their concepts have no actual meaning aside from what you have assigned to them. Literally go step on a Lego.
Manifestation does work, but you also have to do the work. If you're trying to manifest your dream job, but you aren't networking or applying or anything, it isn't going to happen. How are you going to manifest winning the lottery if you don't buy a ticket? How are you going to manifest good friends if you don't go out and meet people? "All magic comes at a price," is the most accurate thing Disney has ever said about magic. That price, the "sacrifice," is usually work.
King Soon's money mantra is the best there is. Like by a huge margin. I would recommend just chanting his money mantra over virtually any other kind of money spell. It's especially good if you spend a few minutes chanting it with your money bowl.
Blowing cinnamon into your house on the first of the month is overhyped. Cinnamon for money is overhyped, period. The reason cinnamon is associated with wealth is because it's a spice. Spices historically indicate wealth. Cassia cinnamon (which is what's most prevalent around the world, and is what you're buying unless the package specifically says otherwise) is actually super cheap. Ceylon cinnamon is the expensive one. Functionally every other spice would be more effective for a money spell than cassia cinnamon.
The best thing I can recommend for wealth involving spices is buying spices and donating them to a food bank. Giving spices to those who can't afford them will generate far more positive energy than just throwing it onto the ground or in a jar. Buy some salt and pepper and give it to your local food bank, and tell me shit doesn't start looking up for you.
[Specific note for Hellenic Polytheists: Stop leaving food at crossroads or your front door on Hekate's Deipnon. The purpose of doing that was to feed travelers and the less fortunate. It is much more in line with the purpose of the action to donate some money to a food bank. Don't waste food.]
Your money bowl doesn't have to use rice as its base. Any staple crop will function the same way. If your "staple" is oats, use oats. If your "staple" is dried beans, use dried beans.
These things are all just my opinions. If you get your panties in a bunch, please be aware that I don't give a fuck. If it doesn't apply, let it slide.

Cinnamon vs. Cassia what’s the Difference?
Tumblr media
Cinnamon and cassia are often used interchangeably, but they come from different plant species and have distinct differences in flavor, appearance, and health effects. Understanding these differences can help you make better choices, especially when it comes to regular use in cooking or health routines.
What is Cinnamon?
Cinnamon, specifically Ceylon cinnamon (often called "true cinnamon"), comes from the inner bark of the Cinnamomum verum tree, which is native to Sri Lanka and parts of India. Ceylon cinnamon sticks are thin, soft, and multi-layered.
Flavor: It has a mild, sweet taste with delicate floral and citrus notes.
Health: Ceylon cinnamon contains only trace amounts of coumarin, a naturally occurring compound that can be harmful in large amounts.
Buying in Bulk: If you use cinnamon regularly, purchasing bulk Ceylon cinnamon can be a cost-effective and convenient way to enjoy the benefits of this milder, safer variety.
What is Cassia?
Cassia, often labeled as "cinnamon" in supermarkets, comes from the Cinnamomum cassia tree, native to China and Southeast Asia. It’s thicker, harder, and has a single-layer bark.
Flavor: Cassia is stronger, spicier, and more bitter than Ceylon cinnamon.
Health: It contains much higher levels of coumarin, which can be toxic to the liver and kidneys when consumed in large amounts over time.
Key Differences Between Cinnamon and Cassia
Botanical Origin: Cinnamon is originated as Cinnamomum verum (Ceylon cinnamon) andCassia is Cinnamomum cassia and other species.
Flavor: Cinnamon has mild, sweet, with floral and citrus notes whereas cassia has stronger, spicier, with a more bitter, pungent flavor.
Coumarin Content: Cinnamon (Ceylon) is very low in coumarin whereas Cassia contains 5-10% coumarin, which can be harmful if consumed in excess.
Health Risks: The high coumarin content in cassia poses health risks, especially if used regularly in large amounts. Ceylon cinnamon, on the other hand, is safe for daily consumption, making it the better choice for those who use cinnamon frequently.
Conclusion:
For regular use, Ceylon cinnamon is the healthier option due to its lower coumarin content. It's ideal for sweet dishes, beverages, and even health supplements. If you are buying cinnamon in larger quantities, bulk Ceylon cinnamon offers a more economical choice without sacrificing quality or safety. While cassia can still be enjoyed for its stronger flavor in occasional recipes.

Lead in Cinnamon : How to Keep Your Spice Safe
Cinnamon, a spice that is commonly used worldwide, is not only favored because of its lavish taste but also because of the health benefits it confers. Lately, however, the possibility of heavy metal contamination, particularly lead in cinnamon, has been a cause for concern. Lead is a dangerous heavy metal that brings about severe health problems if absorbed extensively into the body, which begs the question of the safety of cinnamon, most likely in long-term regular use.
Understanding Lead Contamination in Cinnamon
Be it a case of cinnamon or any other plant food product can be prone to contamination by heavy metals like lead and arsenic, when the plants grow in soil that is so contaminated with heavy metals. Mainly in the cultivation, harvesting, or initial processing stages, these pollutants can be introduced to the spice. Broadly speaking, lead levels in cinnamon are usually quite limited, but one can not exclude the possibility of contamination.
Why Lead in Cinnamon is a Concern
Children are especially sensitive to lead, which they absorb more readily than adults. At low levels, lead poisoning in children can lead to behavioral problems, cognitive impairment, attention deficit disorders, stunted growth, and speech or hearing issues. The most severe cases can be manifested by seizures, unconsciousness, and even death
Likewise, lead exposure in early childhood, whether it is through ingestion, inhalation, or even skin contact, is the leading cause of adverse health effects on young children. Furthermore, those with iron deficiencies are at a higher risk of absorbing the lead.
For people who love to use cinnamon products whether by way of flavoring in their food or as a supplement, the potential risk of lead in cinnamon might be a worrisome issue. Hence, the first thing to do is to check if the spice that you are using is safe.
How to Minimize the Risk
Do not bring products to the market that are toxic and illegal: Always prefer to buy certified organic or brand-name cinnamon from producers that demand the most strict and finest testing and quality control measures. A certified supplier is much more likely to deliver cinnamon that is not contaminated lead in Cinnamon.
Choose Ceylon Cinnamon: Some of the varieties are rather different from others. The two most known types of cinnamon are Ceylon cinnamon (real cinnamon) and Cassia cinnamon. Cassia cinnamon, which is usually confused with Ceylon, has a few types of heavy metals and many others. One such is coumarin, a natural compound that can be toxic to the liver in large amounts. Ceylon Cinnamon farming companies that are accepted by the government as true cinnamon and only in Sri Lanka. This kind of cinnamon has almost no coumarin thus it is a healthier kind of cinnamon.
Be sure to look for the Certificate: Always, before making any payment, check that there is a thorough second testing done by SGS or another world-recognized test laboratory for lead and other contaminants.
The Importance of Testing for Lead
With the growth in demand for spices across the globe, it is indispensable to make sure that cinnamon producers are operating at the highest security levels. Regular testing for lead in cinnamon and other contaminants should definitely be a clear-cut requirement for the safe and unauthorized consumption of products.
Your health comes first. Procure cinnamon in your own health centricity by the responsible suppliers who have the necessary information and show their development process of the maturity.....
Why Choose Acril for Your Ceylon Cinnamon
If you don't want to worry and are looking for the best product, Acril, which is the only supplier of real cinnamon in Sri Lanka. The company is known for supplying pure, contaminant-free cinnamon to the global market, and Acril ensures that their products conform to the strictest quality and safety standards. Acril is a choice for you and you get the advantages of lead free while using it as an excellent health-conscious dieter if you choose it.

correspondences for cinnamon
I discuss cinnamomum verum, cinnamomum cassia, cinnamomum loureiroi, and [briefly] cinnamomum camphora.
magical properties
I’m not sure cinnamon could be anything but a Sun herb. Sparing topical application of cinnamon feels warm, like sitting in the sun. Too strong concentrations of cinnamon will burn you. The sun is the source of all life on earth, and cinnamon is a powerful potentiator of other herbs. The sun also contains UVB rays which cause skin cancer, while over-consumption of cinnamon can lead to coumarin toxicity resulting in liver damage.
Tumblr media
[Cinnamomum verum, Ceylon Cinnamon]
Cinnamon is associated with prosperity, celestial work, and sex. Its solar nature and historical scarcity explains its association with prosperity while its gently warming qualities and perfume lend it its sexual powers. [1] Cinnamon is was also one of the woods used in ancient Jewish ritual sacrifice in the Temple and a component of the holy anointing oil. [2; consider clicking through for the scholarly article about cinnamon’s role in the Tanakh!] Because of these associations, it is also an ingredient in every formulation of Abramelin oil, which aids contact with one’s guardian angel. [3; includes a stockist of Abramelin Oil].
Cinnamon finds its way into my practice in many ways. I find that a cinnamon stick makes a wonderful incense for any kind of solar work and can also be used to bless a space for celestial work. On the other hand, the same incense does wonders for heating up the room before sex magic.
More than either of these, however, I find that cinnamon is one of the strongest potentiating herbs, plants that are used to strengthen the influence of other herbs in the working. I noted last week that yarrow is a wonderful potentiating herb for any Venus working, and the same could be said about cinnamon’s presence in solar workings. I would even go so far as to say cinnamon is a great potentiating herb for almost any working of any kind.
physical properties
Cinnamomum is in the Lauraceae, the Laurel family, many of whom are familiar names due to their fragrant woods. Cinnamon is really an imprecise name, especially in the USA. In this week’s project update, I mentioned that cinnamon can refer to 3 general species in the cinnamomum genus—and all “cinnamons” aren’t created equal.
There are two main varieties of cinnamon on the market today, c. cassia (also known as Chinese cinnamon or just cassia), and c. verum, Ceylon cinnamon or true cinnamon. Cassia is what you use in cinnamon rolls, it’s much more pungent and stays very prominent in baking. Ceylon cinnamon has a much more delicate aroma that can disappear in baked goods but works especially well for teas or more mild herbal preparations. Above, where I mentioned burning cinnamon as incense, c. verum is species to pick.
Tumblr media
[Visual comparison of cassia vs Ceylon cinnamon, thanks Pamela Swamy!]
Aside from these two extremely common varieties, the third variety that can be found in the USA is c. loureiroi, Saigon cinnamon. This cinnamon’s flavor is what gives phở broth its unique flavor and can be found in many Southeast Asian markets. As someone who worked briefly in the wholesale spice market, I have also seen smaller stores/inexperienced buyers stock c. loureiroi in their bulk spices section by mistake. Camphor, a highly aromatic substance whose magical uses deserve their own entire blog entry, is refined from the resin of a tree in the cinnamomum genus, c. camphora, the camphor laurel, but it is seldom confused with other cinnamons due its extremely different properties.
Tumblr media
[C. loureiroi, Saigon cinnamon by Badagnani]
Cinnamon has been used traditionally as a digestive aid, especially as a tea after meals and can be used (with caution) in topical balms and ointments for its warming effects. [4] One reason I spent so much time harping on the different varieties of cinnamon is because coumarin, one of the strongest active ingredients in cinnamon, is moderately toxic to the liver and kidneys [5] and excessive consumption of cinnamon can lead to coumarin toxicity. The amount of coumarin in the three cinnamons I discuss varies wildly, being the highest in Saigon cinnamon and the lowest in Ceylon cinnamon.
Though it can be freely used as a spice, cinnamon should never be taken at therapeutic levels internally without consulting a doctor, especially by children and those who are pregnant or breast-feeding. Always patch-test any topical preparation containing cinnamon as it has a tendency to cause dermatitis at high concentrations or in those with sensitive skin.

Gluten Free, Dairy Free Banana Oat Bread
This is a recipe for my friend Erin. I hope it works for her. If you want a grain free and dairy free banana muffin, here’s my recipe.
Makes two loaves (I used a Pyrex 4.8 cup glass baking dish; roughly 8″x4″)
Cooking time: 35-40 minutes (in convection gas oven) This is in glass baking pans - I would estimate around 30 minutes in metal, but check the loaves after 25 minutes, either way.
Preheat oven to 350°F with empty baking pans in the oven, so they are hot when you spoon the batter in.  Make sure your racks are such that the rack in use is just below the middle, and you place the loaves at least 2-3 inches apart in the middle of the oven.  You don’t want the bread burning on top or otherwise baking unevenly because it’s too close to the roof /sides / door of the oven.  Use the convection fan if you have it.
When you start, try to have all ingredients close to or at room temperature.  They’ll be easier to mix thoroughly, and your baking will be faster and more even.
Gather:
Blender (You don’t need a blender if you have oat flour already made, and you have another way of mixing the liquid/mushy ingredients well.  You will need a smaller mixing bowl - around a 1.5 qt size - if you don’t use the blender, though.)
Large bowl (I used the 2.5 qt. bowl in this set.)
2 loaf pans (roughly 8″ x 4″ x 3″ - I used glass)
Measuring cups and measuring spoons
A real tablespoon on which to heap Artisana coconut butter (see below)
A large serving spoon to get the flour out of the bag, and spoon the batter into the pans.
Silicone pasty brush to grease the pans (you can use a folded up paper towel if you are careful with it - I say "careful” because I want you to grease the pans when they are hot)
Paper towels (probably around 5 or 6) - clean up messes, use folded to grease the pans (carefully) or folded to mop up excess greasing of said pans if you’re using a pastry brush, and lastly, to set the hot banana loaves on so they won’t stick or fall through your cooling rack.
I would say “timer,” but everyone just uses their phones, and I know your phone is never more than 4 feet away from you.
Toothpick(s) to check for doneness
Oven mitts/pads
A cooling rack would be nice
1 cup gluten free whole oats or 3/4 cup gluten free oat flour (I use Back Roads Just Oats) to be put into blender to make flour - quick cooking oats will not work in this recipe.
1/2 cup gluten free whole oats (not blended; quick cooking oats will not work in this recipe.)
1 cup Arrowhead Mills Organic Heritage Blend Flour (I use it because it’s gluten free, is a good 1 for 1 substitute for regular flour, it has a bit of xanthan gum to hold everything together, and it doesn’t have potato starch in it! If you are using an alternative that is GF, and does not have a binder like xanthan gum in it, you can add one extra jumbo/large or two smallish eggs to the amount below, but if you add the eggs, cut the coconut milk down to a half cup. Should go without saying, BUT: do NOT shake the measuring cup to balance the flour out or make it “settle” - either lightly spoon in the flour and level it off with the flat edge of a butterknife, so it doesn’t settle down; or scoop it out with the cup once and slide the straight edge of a knife over the top to level.  Shaking/settling down flour will make you put way too much flour in your baking.)
1/4 tsp salt
2 tsp Ceylon cinnamon (if the type is not specified, it’s cassia cinnamon, and then only use 1 tsp of it)
3/4 tsp baking soda (not baking powder)
around 3 - 4 mashed, ripe bananas (they’re sweeter and you will get a moister bread if you use frozen, ripe banana pieces that are thawed - they will look gross and watery thawed, but they’ll be wonderful in the bread; should go without saying, BUT if you’re going to freeze bananas, peel them first, and cut them up into little pieces, and freeze them in a covered container, preferably made of glass with a plastic lid)
1/4 maple syrup (this bread will have a subtle sweetness at this amount, but if you want it sweeter, either decrease the coconut milk by half of the amount of maple syrup you add, OR add the remaining maple in maple sugar form)
2 tsp pure vanilla powder (it’s the brown stuff that looks like moist soil - if you’re using extract, use 1 tsp)
1 cup canned full-fat coconut milk (I use Natural Value brand; if you don’t mind dairy, full-fat yogurt would be fine as a replacement -- see notes on flour/eggs as well as maple syrup for how to adjust liquid amounts based on changes - do not skimp on fat in this recipe. You will be sorry, and hey, while we’re at it, don’t blame the butter for what the bread did, ok?)
2 heaping TBS of Artisana Coconut Butter (this is not coconut oil, and I highly, highly recommend this particular brand. Make sure it’s mixed and you don’t just get oil on the top, which might be the case if it’s stored above 70°F - but you do not want to store this stuff in the fridge!  Also, by “heaping,” I mean as much as you can possibly fit on the TABLEspoon.  If you don’t mind dairy, 3 reg tablespoons of ghee or around 5-6 pats of somewhat softened butter would be ok substitutes. And holy heck, DO NOT USE margarine or some kind of “blend” of crap. Look, I’ve given you the vegan option, the ghee option, and the butter option.  Pick one.)
2 jumbo/large eggs
1 tsp or so of coconut oil (this is just to grease the pans, but only grease them when they’re hot -- JUST before you spoon the batter in)
FIRST:
Make sure that oven is at 350°F, and that your pans are in there (ungreased), heating up. Preheating the pans ensures more even baking. Mix in a large bowl: blended whole oats (or oat flour), Arrowhead Mills flour, unblended whole oats, salt, cinnamon and baking soda. Make sure there are no lumps, especially of baking soda. Oh dear Lord, tasting a lump of baking soda in an otherwise delicious treat is horrible. Don’t let that happen. Set aside.
SECOND:
Mix thoroughly in the blender (you don’t have to wash it out if you just blended oats into flour) or in the smaller bowl: ripe, mashed bananas, maple syrup, vanilla, coconut milk (only use 3/4 cup of the coconut milk at first, and adjust it if your batter is way too thick), Artisana coconut butter, eggs.
THIRD:
If your oven is pre-heated and the baking pans are hot, take them out carefully and place them on a solid, heatproof surface, and put a half teaspoon of the coconut oil in each pan and use the pastry brush or a folded paper towel to carefully make sure the oil covers the whole inside of the pan, including the sides. If you end up with a puddle of coconut oil in there, carefully soak some of it up with a folded paper towel so you don’t burn yourself. Then, quickly mix the smaller bowl’s liquids into the larger bowl.  Thoroughly mix the two together quickly (it should be easily mixable, but still fairly thick and definitely not pourable. Spoon half into each greased pan.  Place the pans at least 3″ apart, in the middle of the oven (slightly below middle top to bottom, and as close to middle front-to-back, and left-to-right as you can get and still separate them).
Bake for around 35 minutes, but check for doneness with the toothpick test (to “moist texture”) after 25 minutes, and at the end.  Every oven is different.  Mine took 40 minutes in pre-heated glass pans.
If you have a cooling rack, put a triple layer of paper towels on it, and carefully get the loaf out of the pan (I turn it upside down on the papertowels, but you can also use a spatula to carefully pry it out).  If your loaf is not done completely, this could turn out badly.  Use that toothpick test I linked to in the paragraph above.
Let me know what you think!
Great additions to this recipe (as add-ins):
1/4 cup of Chocolate chips - warning: check that they’re GF or DF if you need that.
1/4 cup Coconut flake
1/4 cup Pumpkin or Sunflower seeds (when you bake with sunflower seeds, they could turn the product green, but it will still be safe to eat, if there’s nothing else wrong with it)
1/4 cup raisins
1/4 cup bran (most have gluten in them, so be aware; I don’t know why you would need more bran than what is already in this high-fiber recipe, but to each her own - I personally think it’s preferable to get the extra fiber by adding nuts or seeds, if you can tolerate them)
1/2 cup chopped strawberries, blueberries, or peaches (if doing this, adjust overall liquid of the batter by 1/4 cup less, but don’t skimp on the eggs)
1/2 cup chopped apples or pears (don’t really need to adjust for those)
1/4 to 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts would probably be the best tasting)

Commander Mars (Martian to a Different Drum)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Commander Mars has a rather playful (but hard to read) personality in Pokémon Special (Adventures), an impulsive (and occasionally explosive) personality in Diamond Pearl Adventure, and a sassy, snarky mannerism in the anime (until the rushed ending, but the less we talk about that the better).
Fandom-wise, my favorite interpretation of Mars is in @galacticenergyco ’s ongoing story at FanFiction.net: Redshift. In Redshift, Mars is a diehard, eternally loyal subordinate who just can’t get over the man who meant so much to her five years ago. She’s willing to break Charon out of jail, rush into the Distortion World, and even break into the old HQ to help poor Cyrus make a full recovery. It’s ongoing and well worth a read.
I kept all of those iterations (and Mars’s game iteration) in mind when I designed her scent, but Redshift!Mars is where most of the inspiration came from. I wanted to create a fragrance that matched that personality most of all.
Mars has a temper when she’s pushed into a corner, so I wanted to pick a set of oils with a warming effect and a “warm” smell. Hers is the only scent in the entire set that has this quality. I also knew from the get-go I’d want the bomb (or at least the water) to be red, so that made it a bit easier to determine what my main scent would be.
I decided that the main scent in this synergy would be Cinnamon. There are various types of Cinnamon Essential Oil on the market. Cinnamon Bark, Cinnamon Leaf, Cassia Cinnamon, etc. Each have a slightly different smell and slightly different therapeutic properties.
I ended up selecting Cassia Cinnamon because Mars has it in her to occasionally be sweet (especially if your name is Cyrus) and that particular cinnamon oil smells like cinnamon sugar. I always keep a big bottle of it in my ridiculously large collection of oils. I collect these things like Pokémon. The 92-oil case I got for Christmas is already 80% full.
By this point, I had a few options: make this thing smell like an Atomic Fireball candy (been there), Big Red chewing gum (done that), or something more complex. I opted for more complex, since Mars is far from a one-dimensional Commander.
The next two oils I added to her synergy (Allspice and Nutmeg) are, like cinnamon, traditional spices for mulled autumn treats. You can find them together in pumpkin pie, pumpkin ale, spice cake, molasses spice cookies, and so on.
But I didn’t want Mars to simply smell like a glorified spice rack, either. I added a good amount of Sweet Orange to give the spices a fruity note, and some Balsam of Peru for a vanilla-like end note.
The end product brings to mind cozy sweaters, changing leaves, crisp autumn air, spiced fall treats, and the warmth of your home after rushing out into the cold. It’s like wrapping yourself up in your favorite blanket, but as a scent. Very comforting…and the Cassia Cinnamon really does make your skin tingle!
In the tub, Mars’s bomb (Martian to a Different Drum) ends up looking like those colored pictures of the surface of Jupiter, complete with the Great Red Eye. See for yourself! The water’s a dazzling vermilion once the suds dissipate and the smell lingers on your silky-soft skin well into the following morning.
And if your cat has no sense of self preservation (like mine), he may try to lick your legs before you make it into your bathrobe.
Now it’s time to talk about the pros and cons of these oils from a safety perspective...
Aromatherapy isn’t just about pretty smells and scented bath water. Essential oils are in such a high concentration that even absorbing them through your skin can leave you with the therapeutic (and potentially toxic) benefits.
If you are allergic to a plant, you are 100% without question going to be super allergic to the essential oil.
There’s also such a thing as contraindications: where some oils may affect you in weird ways if you have a certain medical condition or take certain medications.
The information below is for your safety if you want to attempt to make this blend at home (as a bath bomb, a body spray, or even scented bath salts). And do be sure to wear gloves. Some of these oils (especially the Balsam of Peru) have recommended dilution rates as small as 0.4%. You don’t want that to slide on bare skin!
Cassia Cinnamon Essential Oil
Everyone knows the soothing, savory, spicy scent of cinnamon. It’s used in Asian cuisines to add flavor to meats and savory dishes. In the Western world, cinnamon can also be used in candies and sweets. It’s one of the most recognized, universal scents in the world.
The type of essential oil I used came from Cassia (Chinese) Cinnamon. This type of cinnamon is the most commonly purchased type of cinnamon (as opposed to Ceylon Cinnamon) within the United States.
Pros:
Cassia Cinnamon can be used to assist with issues pertaining to diabetes, intestinal gas, muscle and stomach spasms, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, infections, loss of appetite, chest pain, hernias, high blood pressure, kidney disorders, and the common cold.
Some people use it to treat bed-wetting in small children.
In part of a multi-ingredient treatment, Cassia Cinnamon can be used to treat erectile dysfunction. This is probably due to the numbing properties of eugenol (a chemical found in Cassia Cinnamon).
For female health, Cassia Cinnamon can also be your friend and assist you through menopausal symptoms, menstrual problems, cramps, and heavy menstrual flow.
Cassia Cinnamon contains hydroxychalcone and similar chemicals. These chemicals seem to improve insulin sensitivity. Cassia Cinnamon also contains chemicals that may activate blood proteins that increase blood sugar uptake. These effects may improve blood sugar control in patients with diabetes.
Cassia Cinnamon also contains cinnamaldehyde. This chemical might fight against some strains of bacteria and fungi. It also seems to stop the growth of some types of solid tumor cells.
Cons:
Due to the high eugenol content of this essential oil, Cassia Cinnamon Essential Oil is toxic (and potentially fatal) to cats and dogs. If you plan to diffuse this, don’t trap your poor pet in the room with you!
In some countries, Cassia Cinnamon is used as an intentional abortifacent, since it can bring forward your menstrual flow and cause a miscarriage. If you’re pregnant or trying to become pregnant, avoid this essential oil.
Cassia Cinnamon can be overused and abused. Too much of it over a long period of time may cause side effects in some people. One of its chemicals (coumarin) may cause or worsen existing liver disease.
If you’re diabetic, Cassia Cinnamon may lower your blood sugar levels. Watch for signs of hypoglycemia and monitor your blood sugar carefully.
Cassia Cinnamon may lower your blood sugar and interfere with blood sugar control during and after surgery. If you’re scheduled for surgery in 2 weeks, don’t use this essential oil.
Nutmeg Essential Oil
Nutmeg is the shelled, dried seed of the Myristica fragrans plant and is used to make traditional medicine. It has an effect on the central nervous system and the spice is used in a lot of autumnal blends. Think of pumpkin ale, carrot cake, and so on.
Pros:
Nutmeg is an effective treatment for several gastrointestinal issues (diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain, and intestinal gas). I’ve also seen improvement with my kidneys on days I diffuse Nutmeg or use this bath bomb, but this may not be true for you. You know your body better than I do.
Since Nutmeg affects the nervous system, it can also be applied (with a carrier oil) to the skin to reduce pain caused by mouth sores, toothaches, or rheumatism.
Although some people claim that Nutmeg can help fight cancer, there’s not enough evidence available to validate that claim.
Some of the chemicals within this essential oil make Nutmeg a great sleep-aid with the added benefit of more vivid, interesting dreams. I diffused this oil a few months ago had a super weird, vivid dream about a society where all children were brought into the world by surrogate mothers (Dames) and all valid sperm came from a group of men listed in a Universal Catalog (Sires). Childless couples were rewarded because the world was overpopulated, Sires and Dames could only bring a total of 4 children apiece into the world to avoid the risk of inbreeding, and those who made kids the old-fashioned way were heavily fined. Then things got even weirder when somebody’s teenage daughter at a Catholic school got pregnant and claimed that immaculate conception transpired. In short, Nutmeg turns your dreams into a private REM cinema and there’s no telling what your brain will come up with!
Cons:
Since Nutmeg is an emmenagogue (it can increase menstrual flow), this essential oil is best not used by pregnant persons or those attempting to become pregnant. This oil may cause a miscarriage due to its abortifacent nature.
If you are experiencing issues with constipation, hold off on using Nutmeg, as this essential oil can harden your stool. It’s good for diarrhea; but not so good for the opposite issue!
Since Nutmeg has an effect on the nervous system, overexposure to the oil may result in hallucinogenic episodes.
People who use and abuse Nutmeg (120 mg or more daily) have experienced nausea, dry mouth, dizziness, palpitations, agitation, and hallucinations. It’s also possible to overdose and die by Nutmeg.
If you are taking any of the below medication, exercise caution with Nutmeg, as they may interact:
Medications changed by the liver (Cytochrome P450 1A1 (CYP1A1) substrates) such as Chlorzoxazone, Theophylline, Bufuralol, etc.
Medications changed by the liver (Cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) substrates) such as Clozapine (Clozaril), Cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril), Fluvoxamine (Luvox), Haloperidol (Haldol), Imipramine (Tofranil), Mexiletine (Mexitil), Olanzapine (Zyprexa), Pentazocine (Talwin), Propranolol (Inderal), Tacrine (Cognex), Theophylline, Zileuton (Zyflo), Zolmitriptan (Zomig), etc.
Medications changed by the liver (Cytochrome P450 2B1 (CYP2B1) substrates)
Medications changed by the liver (Cytochrome P450 2B2 (CYP2B2) substrates)
Phenobarbital (Luminal)
Allspice (Pimento) Essential Oil
Allspice is one of my favorite smells in the world. The essential oil version of it is strong enough to fill an entire house with its relaxing, flavorful scent. The unripe berries and leaves of this plant are used to make medicine.
Pros:
Like Clove and Cinnamon, Allspice has a high eugenol content, which means this oil can be used effectively for antibacterial purposes. Some dentists even use eugenol to calm down toothaches.
Allspice can also alleviate a lot of gastrointestinal issues (intestinal gas, indigestion, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation).
Fevers, colds, and flu can also be treated by diffusing Allspice.
Some studies indicate Allspice can be used to help with diabetes and obesity problems.
I mostly use Allspice on account of what it can do for my unwelcome time of the month. It’s one of the best essential oils to use if you have heavy, painful menstrual periods or endometriosis. It regulates the flow and melts away your aches and pains.
Cons:
Due to the high eugenol content of this essential oil, Allspice Essential Oil is toxic (and potentially fatal) to cats and dogs. If you plan to diffuse this, don’t trap your poor pet in the room with you!
Allspice can slow blood-clotting. If you are going in for surgery in the next 2 weeks, don’t use this essential oil.
Balsam of Peru
Here we go: the controversial ingredient!
Balsam of Peru is a resinous substance that comes from the Myroxylon balsamum plant. It smell is reminiscent of vanilla with a touch of clove and cinnamon. As a result, it pairs beautifully with those oils--as well as orange oils!
It’s one of the most versatile oils not only with its scent, but with its therapeutic benefits...so long as it’s done in moderation.
Note: Balsam of Peru only makes up about 5% of the Martian to a Different Drum blend, but you can certainly smell it. Please read.
Pros:
Balsam of Peru has been used for centuries to treat tumors, expel intestinal worms, and flush out your kidneys by overstimulating them. It’s a powerful diuretic.
Some people occasionally put Balsam of Peru directly on the skin for infected and slow-healing wounds, burns, scrapes, ulcers, rashes, and itchy areas...though I’d caution against this. Plant Therapy, the company I bought my oil from, recommends 0.4% dilution for Balsam of Peru, so definitely do NOT apply that stuff directly on your skin. Diffusing it in your tub should be OK. Just make sure the bath is full before you go in!
Some dentists use this essential oil to treat dry sockets: a painful condition that occurs when a tooth is extracted and a clot forms in the gums too soon.
It’s an immunity booster! Not only have some studies shown that Balsam of Peru can stimulate the immune system and eliminate free radicals in the body, but it’s also got strong astringent and antimicrobial properties. People can even use it to treat mites and bedbugs!
It fights your anxiety! Balsam of Peru’s calming scent contains a slew of chemicals that promote a peaceful, calm mind. It makes it easier to breathe and brings about a comforting scent.
Breathe more easily! Balsam of Peru has natural expectorant properties, making it easier for you to blow out whatever’s left of your stuffy nose or clogged-up throat. Just be sure to inhale. Don’t swallow!
Pamper your hair and scalp! Balsam of Peru can help you combat dandruff and a dry, itchy scalp.
Cons:
Despite its many benefits, Balsam of Peru is one of the most allergenic substances known to man. If you get headaches over artificial vanilla, strong perfumes, or scented things in general, chances are you’re allergic.
Although Balsam of Peru can be used over short periods of time (never more than 1 week), people can build up a tolerance to it and suffer allergic skin reactions if the substance is abused.
If you use this essential oil, use plenty of sunblock when you go outside: especially if you have light skin. Balsam of Peru increases your sensitivity to the sun.
Do not use this essential oil if you are nursing or pregnant, as not enough is known about Balsam of Peru to say it’s safe. Ere on the side of caution.
Since Balsam of Peru is a powerful diuretic, prolonged usage of the oil may result in kidney damage (even failure). Do not use this oil if you have kidney problems. Period.

Winter is Coming: How to Avoid Cold and Flu
Ah, winter. It brings images of cozy nights by the fire, warm food, holiday joy, and quality time with loved ones to the mind. But wait– it also brings something else, which isn’t as pleasant: cold and flu season.
Colds and flus can make people sick on a monthly basis especially during the winter months. Thankfully the Silicon Valley Health Institute has provided some helpful pointers on how to avoid getting sick during winter. Here are some useful tips to assist you in keeping your body's immune system healthy.
Flu Fighting Oils
Essential oils are extracted from plants with natural healing properties. They have been used for centuries in traditional medicine and have documented results in alleviating some pain and illnesses. Essential oils are generally used topically, but it can also be put in a diffuser. Sometimes essential oils can be taken orally.
Here are some essential oils that can boost immunity against cold and flu.
Eucalyptus oil has eucalyptol, which alleviates blockages, lowers coughing/bronchitis, and eliminates infectious bacteria in your throat and lungs. Eucalyptus oil can be applied topically on the skin (not advised for children). To use it effectively, dab it under each nostril. This trick is particularly handy when your nasal passages are blocked and you can't sleep.
Cinnamon oil is effective in killing bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics. You can use it to clean your home or take it orally as a pill. But there are three things to keep in mind:
Cinnamomum verum (Ceylon cinnamon) is an oil and not a Cassia product, which is a different spice from cinnamon.
Cinnamon oil can be toxic in high doses, so don't take it for more than a week.
If you plan to take it orally, dab a small bit on your skin to test your sensitivity.
Oregano oil has antiviral, antifungal, and antioxidant properties. It also consists of carvacrol as well as thymol, both of which inhibit microbial reproduction. Oregano oil's benefits have only been studied in petri dishes, but medical professionals have found success with it, especially against infections from fungus or parasites. Some professionals say the oil can impact the healthy germs in your intestine as well, so it is good to use it in moderation.
Tea Tree oil is amazing as a disinfectant cleaner for your home, and it can also eliminate congestion when you breathe in its vapor, but take note: do not swallow this oil.
Immune Boosting Supplements
Depending on the person you're talking to, supplements either do everything, nothing, or a little bit of both. But it is scientifically proven that some supplements can aid with immune improvement and resistance. Here are some supplements that can keep you from catching cold and flu during the winter seasons.
Vitamin D3: Some people believe Vitamin D3 can be used in place of an influenza shot. When taking this, it is important to optimize your D3 with K2 and Vitamin A. The gene receptor for Vitamin D absorption, VDR, plays an significant role in the immune system, by expressing in white blood cells. It’s also been shown to affect the adrenal gland by synthesizing the following:
Neurotrophic factors – small proteins or peptides that support the growth, survival, and differentiation of both developing and mature neurons. These tiny biomolecules promote neurons during initial growth and development within the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system.
Nitric Oxide (NO) synthase - is broken down from the amino acid, L-arginine. NO is a signaling molecule for your cells, and an important one at that. Here’s why, NO promotes healthy blood flow in arteries by dilating blood vessels and relaxing smooth muscle linings. Furthermore, it modulates insulin secretion and peristalsis (contraction and relaxation of muscles).
Glutathione - mentioned below.
Vitamin C: Unlike the common misconception, this vitamin doesn't prevent illness, however it can help your body kick out an illness faster. But, it takes A LOT to see results, and since Vitamin C is water soluble, any that your body doesn't absorb will end up in your pee, or even worse you may get disaster pants. You have to find the right amount that works for you, and when you do, you’ll have to continue to take it for it to work.
If you can, take no more than 5 grams on a typical day. You might be able to take 25 or 50 grams per day when you are sick as your body will demand more Vitamin C. For best results when you have colds, try intravenous vitamin C as it provides better concentration and faster absorption.
Glutathione is like a battery recharger, juicing up your body's antioxidants after you utilize them. In fact, it’s one of the most powerful antioxidants produced by your cells. And, when you combine it with Vitamin C, you’ll be unstoppable. NutraV Grass-Fed Seabuck Protein contains glutathione and pomegranate extracts, which is rich in vitamin C, making it the perfect supplement to help protect your body against common colds and the flu. You can easily incorporate it into your diet by adding one scoop into your daily smoothie, breakfast bowl, juice or even just water.
Zinc can help you get rid of a cold faster and also decrease its symptoms, too... as long as you take it within 24 hrs when you feel a cold creeping up on you. NutraV Z-Hydrate is rich in zinc and with its nano properties, it offers better absorption within the body. Plus it tastes good, so even children will have no problem taking this supplement.
Superfoods
Surprise! Your grandma is right about soup – well, mostly right. Kudos to granny!
Classic chicken soup is a staple recipe with ingredients that can actually fight viruses that trigger upper respiratory system infections. Make the soup with bones of pasture-raised chickens, or use beef or lamb bone broth bases.
Ginger is rich in sesquiterpenes, which are anti-rhinoviral. meaning it is very effective in fighting off rhinovirus, the most predominant agent of common colds. To get ginger's benefits, you can make ginger tea, consume raw ginger, or include ginger in your chicken soup. You can also grate a couple of tablespoons of fresh ginger and toss it in a bone- broth soup.
Garlic is a great "anti" food. It is anti -viral, -bacterial, -parasitic, and -fungal. It is fantastic for boosting your immune system. If you are hardcore, you can swish an uncut clove of raw garlic inside your mouth for 15-20 minutes. If you're not that brave, then just toss it into your dishes like your chicken/bone broth ginger soup.
Turmeric is a useful spice with excellent antioxidant properties. If you want full immune-boosting results, try curcumin extract, the primary substance found in turmeric. You can buy curcumin on its own or mixed with black pepper, which can increase absorption in the body. If you get the curcumin with black pepper mix, make sure to pick one from a reputable brand as the black pepper extract can be moldy.
What Else Can You Do?
Cold treatments: Staying physically cold increases your metabolism, which in turn boosts your immunity engines. Try a blast of cold water at the end of your morning shower, or leave your windows open for 30 minutes, but only do it when you are NOT sick; otherwise, it can MAKE your illness worse. Look into ice baths or cryotherapy, if you really want to boost your immune system.
Exercise: Light exercise can additionally shield you from the cold or influenza, but overworking your body with too much or too rigorous routines can tank your immune system. If your health is top-notch, doing High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) or resistance training is a great way to maintain your defenses. Do it outside in the cold and eliminate 2 birds with one stone. If you haven’t been physically active for a long time, take it slowly and build your strength and stamina before you start doing more strenuous exercises.

Food Swaps - This for That
Tumblr media
Most of the time, I would have preferred to spend time in Wholefoods on Department Store.
It is effortless to replace healthy ingredients with unhealthy options. These are the small changes that will make significant differences in your health. Here are some of my favorite discoveries in my kitchen the whole time with little health information to go with it. Soap: vegetable oil with coconut oil Vegetables are right for you, so should vegetable oil also be? It's also unsaturated fat, which is good too? Error. Vegetable oils undergo intensive treatment and refining and contain toxic chemicals that can lead to physiological changes in our bodies that can cause serious harm. Why is it so bad? It contains enormous amounts of omega-6 fats that are harmful increase (humans need to take omega-6 and omega-3 fats by a certain percentage to work optimally). It can contribute to inflammation, which can lead to various serious diseases, including cardiovascular disease, arthritis, depression, and even cancer. It is rich in trans fats, is highly toxic, and linked to conditions such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. Coconut oil contains MCT. Easily digested fats give you an energy boost without high blood sugar. MCT has a positive effect on metabolism by increasing energy expenditure and thereby promoting fat loss. 50% of the MCT in coconut oil is called "lauric acid," which has antibacterial and antifungal properties responsible for killing harmful bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Coconut oil can reduce your appetite, which may positively affect your body composition. Studies have also shown that MCT in coconut oil can relieve the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. I also have a coconut oil jar in the shower and use it on my skin, hair, and teeth! Tip: Buy virgin, unrefined, cold-pressed organic coconut oil, not refined coconut oil Coconut flour or walnut flour Coconut flour is rich with protein and also fiber and fat, which makes it full of vitality. It is a good source of lauric acid that supports the immune system. Coconut flour contains manganese, which helps you to use many nutrients that including vitamin C and thiamine. Manganese supports bone health, nervous system function, and thyroid health and helps maintain optimal blood sugar levels. It is gluten-free. Baking with coconut flour can reduce the GI (the rate at which food increases blood sugar) in the recipe. However, you cannot just substitute coconut flour with flour in a 1: 1 ratio because it is not equivalent. Coconut flour is very absorbent, so there is little need. Sugar with coconut palm or cinnamon sugar Coconut sugar, while not "healthy," has small effects of zinc, calcium, and potassium, as well as some antioxidants. It has a lower GI than sugar, and so it will not cause high blood sugar levels. However, they are still high in calories and worse than sugar. cinnamon I love cinnamon. Smell, taste, everything. It is also full of health benefits. Although not technically "sweet," it can mimic sweetness, making it a great alternative to sugar. It is loaded with antioxidants that protect the body from damage by free radicals. It has anti-inflammatory properties, which helps the body fight infections and repair tissue damage. Cinnamon has been linked to a lower risk of heart disease, lower cholesterol levels, and lower blood pressure. Cinnamon can improve insulin sensitivity and is a significant factor in regulating metabolism and energy use. Another benefit of cinnamon can lower blood sugar by reducing the amount of glucose entering the bloodstream after eating a meal. Two compounds in cinnamon appear to inhibit plaque buildup in the brain, which is one of the signs of Alzheimer's disease. Cinnamon has been widely studied for potential use in cancer prevention and treatment. It is also known to fight bacterial and fungal infections and may also help prevent tooth decay and reduce bad breath. However, be sure to stick to Ceylon cinnamon and not cassia (if you use this, stick to small doses) I use organic cinnamon. Table salt with Himalayan salt Himalayan salt is full of more than 80 different minerals, including magnesium, calcium, and potassium. Crystals form naturally inside the Earth. Because of these minerals, this magic pink salt can: * PH balance (acidity/alkalinity) * Prevent muscle cramps Lowering blood pressure * Bone strengthening * Improve blood circulation * Removing toxins from healthy cells into the bloodstream to be removed from our systems * Helps absorb nutrients * Create an electrolyte balance Also, throw it in the bathroom to replenish lost nutrients, stimulate blood circulation, and soothe painful and tired muscles. It makes me feel sleepy and relaxed. Commercially refined salt is not only stripped of all its minerals, but it is also chemically cleaned, and heated at high temperatures. It is treated with anti-caking agents to prevent salt from mixing with water in the container. These agents can be deposited in our organs and tissues, causing severe health problems. Sports drinks with coconut water Coconut water is a "natural" sports drink. They contain fewer calories, more protein, less sugar, and more fiber than processed sports drinks, and they provide more calcium and are packed with magnesium and phosphorous (electrolytes). You can also use it in juices. Milk with almond milk or coconut milk Almond milk is one of the most nutritional milk substitutes available. It contains a high content of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin E, manganese, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, iron, fiber, zinc, and calcium. It is low in calories, with only 40 calories per 100ml, and is low in fat. It is free from lactose and gluten. Coconut milk consists of a mixture of coconut meat and water. Do not confuse it with coconut water. Rich and thick, cream resembles more milk, and with 450 calories and 50 grams of fat per cup, it is best to buy mild versions that consume 2/3 calories and fat. Have you noticed that the coconut theme works on this blog? How healthy and calorie-rich food can be healthy? It does not contain trans fats, is gluten-free, non-toxic, and also contains curative antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and anti-parasitic properties. Coconut helps support the overall function of the immune system. Make the transition to healthy eating easier. Remember, some slight changes will go a long way. These are just a few of the food swaps that you can incorporate into your diet to help you lead a healthier life. There is so much more.
