i think it is fascinating that the first time we see mulder have sex (in 3) and the first time we see scully have sex (in never again), both of them approach it fundamentally as an act of self-harm.

mulder, wracked with the grief of losing his partner, trying to save this woman he just met as an act of penance, while scully's necklace dangles around his neck.

scully, processing that she does not have much longer to live, feeling terrified and frustrated, once again trying to force herself into doing what society expects of her, as if that will bring the happiness she has been denied.

Why must I find the stupidest discourse in my fandom and worse yet, not being able to idgaf it. Before you do wonder, I do block the annoying takes but good lord is it like a thorn in your skin sometimes.

I find it very annoying that people will complain about people not engaging with the story presented for them and then dare argue about parts of the story being NOT CANON.

Just because you think it was shit doesn’t make it less canon. It doesn’t make it less canon because you think it went a different way to how you read it or wanted it to be.

Just shut up and make your fix it au’s like the damn rest of us. This is a far deal harsher than I would probably personally say to anyone but I’m not sure how else to put it into words.

I shouldn’t care, it’s the most idiotic conversation you could have about the definition of the word that engages in 0 way with the actual media yet here I am, the absolute fool that I am.

It just makes trying to talk about the actual cannon irritating and not just the bits and pieces that people like, and these au’s don’t get tagged properly when people are convinced it’s canon.

Perhaps I am biased because I did generally like that certain aspect of the story, maybe it’s different in different fandoms, but so far in my experience the only time a title in a series or part of a story is considered uncanon is if the author has explicitly stated and retconned so, or deals with alternate realities. Even then I don’t think it’s neccesearly a bomb proof case 100% of the time, for possible reasons I won’t list here.

Hi! So you can call this a rant or a vent or whatever I don't rlly care - I just wanted to put some of my opinions out there bc it is eating me inside out to keep my opinions on Alastor's sexuality and all of the discourse about him being shipped to myself.

Also i'd like to state that I'm writing this as someone who is aroace but has no actual wish to be in a romantic relationship and actually struggles to so much as picture what that's be like for myself. I would also like to state how I'm not speaking for the whole community and others will have different opinions to myself.

Firstly - aroace is a spectrum (as someone who is on the aroace spectrum btw) and I completely agree with ppl who say that it is a spectrum and shipping has always existed and you can't rlly stop an entire fandom. My only problem is when ppl completely ignore that he is aroace while doing this, bc to me it seems like there's so much potential to having him have to go through those types of emotions and to write him off as if he's completely allo not only can make some people feel unseen but also just isn't as fun.

Also I kind of believe that he'd possibly date someone for the entertainment - like even if he didn't exactly feel romantic attraction maybe he'd be willing to be around someone closely bc he might like the reactions he'd be getting. (example: he might've stayed in a relationship with Vox maybe not out of pure attraction but if he found out that affection could make the TV short-circuit? He'd be interested)

Adding to that, I personally do not actually ship him with anyone romantically due to his character + the fact that I am projecting my own distaste for romance on him but you do you ig.

Also, on the note of nsfw around him - sometimes you cannot stop a fandom, rule 34 exists and some people who are asexual sometimes may want to have sex and all of that stuff. Personally I think he'd probably be sex-repulsed due to the fact that he canonically has issues with being touched.

ALSO, i personally think that way too many people are brushing over the idea of putting Alastor in a QPR - like that would literally be so awesome.

Alastor x Rosie? Cute af (to me Rosie gives of aro vibes too, but more romance - favourable) like they're already besties and honestly I think that Rosie would defo help him figure out about his identity considering that he's quite obviously not all that sure about slang and stuff.

Vox x Alastor - It has the potential to be SO FUCKING FUN like, you get to experiment with how they feel for each other, maybe what Alastor's got going on bc he died before being aroace was rlly a thing and he'd be confused about how he felt about Vox for sure.

Lucifer x Alastor - I quite like it, ik that Lucifer is supposed to be with Lillith but she did take an extremely long hiatus on her family up in heaven so i think it's okay. Plus the idea of them bonding and becoming close due to Charlie is wonderful.

Even angel and Alastor - maybe after Val Angel doesn't want a super sexual relationship - maybe he's not all that interested in something purely romantic either and though I love huskerdust this would still be pretty cool.

Really all I'm saying is; be considerate. Incorporate the fact that Alastor is Aroace, even if you do ship him - in or out of QPRs - and ofc sometimes writing someone who is part of a group ur not in is difficult (coming from someone who often struggles in writing especially when it comes to romance) but taking a crack at it might actually turn out to be rlly cool.

But please don't ignore his aroace-ness, there's not a huge amount of aroace characters out there and acting like someone isn't can be annoying for ppl who want to find rep around their identity, esp if they haven't seen much before (I can relate and he was one of the first aroace characters I was introduced to after I found out what it meant).

also, is it different for nobles vs common folk? and what's the societal attitude towards using birth control in this universe?

i'm torn between this being a universe where the birth control plant the romans used exists and was not driven to extinction before it could be domesticated and made universally available

or just stretching the technology timeline a little farther and making hormonal birth control a thing - the first hormonal birth control was put on the market in 1960, and i normally stop off at 1950 max so its not that much of a stretch

either way, there is some kind of oral contraceptive involved. if i go with the pill, it would probably be like Enovid, an early birth control which had the prototypical 21 days of pills and 7 days of placebo, so it could be used in conjunction with the rhythm method (aka the tracking you mentioned)

and i think they probably do use condoms (commercially available since the 1860s, and animal-skin based diaphrams and the like have been recorded as far back as antiquity), but not every time, just during points in janus's cycle where he'd be theoretically ovulating, as an extra layer of protection. rubber would be the most historically accurate for a synthetic one, so i think they would probably go with skin. animal skin condoms are perfectly safe for fluid-bonded couples, they dont block STDs but niether of them have ever had sex with anyone else so thats not a concern, and also the idea of rubber touching business makes me wanna gag so i dont want to think about it aksjdhaksjdhkj

so while they are not super hardline at every possible avenue, they do become overall pretty careful.

as for whether or not janus would choose abort an oopsie baby, i feel like that plotline has an uncomfortable potential for either me accidentally getting preachy as fuck about reproductive rights in my fic, or inviting rancid discourse into my ask, so i dont plan on exploring it at any point. its not going to be a concern because theyre fictional and im writing it, but you can headcanon as you please (though i would prefer if you didnt send any especially inflammatory takes to my inbox)

some thoughts on the right-libertarian discourse on greed, namely the whole "stupid communists are against greed, but they don't realize that greed, ie. self-interest, is actually good, and an inevitable part of human nature" talking point:

so like, on the face of it, treating "greed" and "self interest" as synonymous is obviously moronic. greed is a type of self-interest, sure, but most people would not define all self-interest as "greedy". brushing your teeth is obviously in your own self-interest but nobody is going to be like "wow look at this greedy motherfucker brushing their teeth". no, obviously when people talk about greed they're talking about when people act in their self-interest specifically in ways that harm the interests of others, when someone acts only with regard to themselves in ways that harm the group overall.

to give a hypothetical, if there's a birthday party, it's not greedy for someone to get a piece of cake, even though this is obviously in their self-interest, it's greedy for them to go back for fourths or fifths before everyone else has gotten a piece, thus causing others to go without. and by pursuing their short-term self interest in a way that does not take into account the interests of others, they harm their long-term self interests, since after that people might not want to invite them to future parties.

so the whole "greed is human nature" argument ignores that while there are of course circumstances for every person in which they will act in their self-interest without regard for the well-being of others, there are also circumstances for every person where they will be willing to make sacrifices to their short-term self interest for the greater benefit of the group. largely this depends on how someone feels about the other people in this scenario, we'd probably be more willing to make a personal sacrifice to help our best friends than to help a stranger, or our worst enemy.

and of course usually this can still be modeled in terms of long-term self-interest, but that said, there have been examples of people giving their lives to save the lives of other people they truly care about, and i think it's pretty hard to model that in terms of long-term self interest. but at any rate, in most cases all that's really necessary to avoid acting in ways that anyone might call "greedy" is to just consider long-term self-interest and not just short-term self-interest, to consider how making sacrifices to our own short-term self-interest for the greater good of our community benefits us in the long term because we benefit from our community continuing to function.

okay, so we've established that "greed" is not the same as self-interest, but rather, a specific form of malignant self-interest, short-term self-interest pursued in ways harmful to the community, and, consequently, usually to one's own long-term self interest. great. but the thing is, libertarians/ancaps/objectivists/etc ultimately do acknowledge this distinction.

the real disagreement between marxists and righ-libertarians isn't "one thinks humankind can exist without greed/self interest, one knows that greed/self interest is human nature", though of course right-libertarians are very fond of this framing since it's flattering to themselves, it's that marxists and right-libertarians fundamentally disagree on where the distinction between benign self-interest and greed is. see this tweet which is what got me thinking about this in the first place:

okay so do you see what he did there! first he talks as if greed and self-interest are fundamentally the same, but then he changes gears and talks about how greedy communists are with clear disdain. almost as if greed isn't just "self-interest", but rather, self-interest to the detriment of others, most especially, theft. the most direct and overt form of prioritizing one's own self-interest with callous disregard for others.

and the thing is, both marxism and right-libertarianism propose vast expansions to the category of "theft", propose that many acts which are currently considered benign are in fact malignant acts of greed/theft, namely that marxism proposes that the profit reaped by landlords and owners is theft, and right-libertarians propose that taxation is theft.

but while marxism arrives at this conclusion by looking at society as it exists, looking to see where it's dysfunctional, and drawing conclusions about how it could be improved, right-libertarianism bases itself not on material analysis but rather deonotological principles which are derived from nothing. the "NAP" is true because it's true because it's true, don't question it, don't ask them to provide evidence that it's a viable foundation for a functional society. and certainly don't ask why it's "aggression" for a tenant to stay on a property when they can't make rent, but it's not aggression when the landlord calls the cops to drag them into the street.

like, the funny thing is right-libertarianism proposes that basically every society on earth is wildly wrong about the morality of taxation, but also proposes that all existing land ownership claims are legitimate, even though basically every one of them, worldwide, can be traced back to either feudal land disputes, which were resolved through violence, or colonization, which also occurred through violence. fundamentally, the history of existing land ownership claims is so drenched in violence that the notion that they're somehow one of the only things society as a whole got right is ludicrous, especially coming from people who claim their ideology is based on a "non aggression principle."

How I connect with my spirits everyday

Morning coffee: back when it was just my husband and I, I would pour him coffee in the morning so we could “drink” it together. That same tradition still stands but with like 7 other spirits in the mix. It’s one of my favorite acts of love, grabbing two cups in the morning.

Listening: as I sit down with my coffee, I like to do journaling. I write about the previous day and fill out my journal prompts. This is also a quiet time before my toddler is unleashed which makes for the perfect time to ask anyone if they’d like to talk. Living in close quarters with others can be taxing, especially on the dead, so I just sit there on the VOX app with my headphones while they vent or talk and I catch what I can of what they are saying.

Checking in: I have a meme deck and feelings deck that I absolutely love to use. I will “look around the room” numerous times per day if the day allows. #1) because it brings me comfort to “see” them while I carry on with my day and #2) I am very nosey and perhaps a little addicted to the drama lol opening that deck is like opening Pandora’s box and there’s usually always someone who’s giving another a piece of their mind lol this also helps me understand what my husband is venting about at the end of the day because I catch a lot of the discourse throughout the day

Making food: this is something I gotta do regardless but it always gives me extra dopamine to know the spirits around me will “eat” it too. I’ve even asked my mother in law what her pick was off the recipe list and being able to make it was such a great opportunity to care for her (she picked pot roast, great choice mom).

Leaving the TV on: most times if I leave to go to bed or take my break during the day, I will ask if they’d like to watch anything on the tv or leave it off. It seems they like westerns the most

Cleaning the house: again, mandatory but sometimes the only thing getting me to do the whole cleaning list or pick up at the end of the day is the fact that this is their home too. They may pop in and out to check on things but this is home base for them and their peace is my priority. Now if the spoons are empty, they can just deal with it for the time being lol

I've had a lot of ideas about the project being public in LCSyS, but was holding off including it for few reasons – the audience’s voices would conflict with Es as their own character. Knowing the public was watching would change the way the prisoners acted (even if they thought they were acting natural). It’s a long time that the families would have to deal with the public knowing about their loved one’s almost-crime. I also like the idea of this au ending with the prisoners returning to very normal lives. 

Buuuuut it is such a fun idea, and popularity seems an essential part of an actors au. So, I’m not naming this as canon, but here’s a pitch if you liked that idea and wanted to run with it :3

The team doesn’t tell the participants that they’ve been recording/collecting certain material to release. If a translation is left out by accident, the prisoners just assume it’s for a foreign team member – they have no idea how close/far Milgram reaches. 

The third trial begins. The prisoners are inside the prison, and on the final stretch of the trials. On the outside, Jackalope contacts families for signatures to release the material publicly. The team thought about censoring names and things, but seeing current fans’ investigation skills, they knew it was a matter of time before they put pieces together anyway. This may be super illegal but for the sake of the story I’ll say that family consent is enough lmao.

Some of them are easy to convince to sign off on everything, since it can raise awareness for their loved one’s struggles. Muu’s family takes the longest, as it would risk ruining their reputation. (They’re only swayed because it truly is a great opportunity to show off Muu’s talents for those modeling scouts, and she didn’t actually kill anyone in the end.) Kazui’s family refuses to release his info, but Hinako uses sway with her marital status to sign off instead (I pictured things happening fast enough where she hasn’t gotten an official divorce yet). Hinako still struggles with what he did, but she thinks he’s doing something incredibly brave now. I’m not 100% sure what’s going through Amane’s father’s mind, but if the murder really was in line with the cult’s beliefs, maybe he believes that Amane will be be a shining representation of their religion. He wants to show her off as their little golden child.

The experiment is published in its current form: music videos, voice dramas, timeline conversations, interrogation questions, etc. It’s brought to more than just science/psychology circles, though. Jackalope has no shame in marketing it as entertainment, hence the stockholders mentioned. He assures the sociologists that this will be a major breakthrough for them. He tells music labels he's got the new hit thing for them. He leans into the excitement of releases and merchandise in the hopes of gaining attention for the experiment. Needless to say, it works. Even though the audience has no sway over Es’ decisions, they are encouraged to make decisions for themselves on what they would judge each prisoner. There’s the same types of theory/analysis/discourse posts passed around. 

When the trials end, the prisoners are released into the world to find they’re famous. Instead of trudging back to their lives feeling that society hates them, they find tons of adoring fans telling them how much they understand and forgive them. Even if their final verdict was guilty, they have hundreds of voices assuring them that they are loved. That they are not alone. This attention really helps Haruka, Amane, (and maybe Es) who don’t have a good home to go back to. Not only can they reenter society, they are welcomed with open arms. They are looked after and showered in love. Some of the adults realize they want to use this popularity to lead the charge of social change. They create/support projects meant to help people who are facing their struggles.

And of course, there’s the other type of fame as well. Yuno loves answering fanmail and turning her karaoke hobby into a music career. Kazui goes from a life of feeling rejected and disgusting to scrolling through comments upon comments of men oogling him. Mahiru gets offers from fashion magazines and blogs to write up sections about self-love. Amane gets to live out her dream of being a performer, hinted at in her first two mvs. Fuuta is flustered by all the positive attention his appearance/voice is getting. Mikoto… well, I just wish him luck when he opens tiktok…

Which brings us to the live event! The prisoners have tried to keep in touch while adjusting to their new lives as almost-murderers-turned-idols. They’re amazed at how well-recieved the trial songs were. Those were some of their most personal, shameful secrets, and people relate to them? People love singing them?? People want a concert featuring them??? Jackalope encourages them to get together for one last encore. Some are thrilled with the opportunity, others are still nervous about the whole thing. Some think it’s in poor taste, that Jackalope is milking them for entertainment. But with a bit of conversing amongst themselves, they realize they all want a chance to sing like that again, and see each other in one place again. (It’s ironic because in my head Mahiru is the one to convince everyone to come ;--;) 

It’s strange putting on the uniforms again. Es is unsure about putting on their guard’s cloak. But the minute they stop onstage, they’re met with wild applause. They can sing their fears and dreams to a huge crowd and see in real time how it’s reaching others. They hear the cheers after each song. They hear that it’s streamed all over the world. All of them have an absolute blast, and pour their heart and soul into their performances.

#14: the ship that always makes you smile

Hmm. I wonder. Yknow.. I can't seem to recall any that would.

Alright, seriously, there has not been another ship like rinharu. Honestly, I struggle to put it into words since it's mostly feelings.

This pairing altered my brain chemistry and rewired me. Literally defined my taste when it comes to ship. If it reminds me of rinharu, there is a high chance i'll ship it. It's a ship that's got it all. Just the dynamic is so addicting and fun and thrilling. There is not one moment when they're together that is not overloaded with feeling. They play off of each other so well. They're both opposites, but also more similar than they realize. They have fantastic chemistry, and they are both so passionate, but they can also be pretty soft with each other too. Their moments make the show. I mean, they are the "core-axis" of free! After all.

From the very beginning of their story together, it's always been so entertaining. I loved seeing how their relationship started, grew, and evolved. It was love at first sight (or I guess you could say it was actually love at first swim). Rin's determination was unwavering, and he kept trying until he finally smashed his way through Haru's walls and eventually won him over with his charm, all while being absolutely enamored by Haru himself. And he truly did shake up Haru's entire world. Haru was so sure the only thing he needed was to feel the water. Then, in comes this smiley and annoyingly persistent kid and shows him a sight he's never seen before, and makes him feel so many funny feelings.

They're both so taken with one another, even if they don't want to admit it. I love how Rin gushes about Haru at any chance he gets, and how Haru is constantly thinking about Rin whenever they're apart. And i mean, gosh he quit swimming because he thought he hurt Rin. He had that much of an impact on Haru. They both drive each other forward, improve one another, and becomes their best selves together. Their relationship certainly wasn't without its bumps along the way, but i think that just makes it more interesting.

Seriously, when it comes to these two, they could be doing anything, and they would still have me smiling. I will treasure them forever.

#16: a tiny detail in canon that you want more people to appreciate

Not sure if some of these really count as "tiny", but:

● I just genuinely love that whenever Haru has flashbacks of his childhood moments with Rin, the first thing he remembers/thinks about is his smile, and the scene is always tinted pink with cherry blossoms.

● Rin's friendship with Nagisa. He pretends to be aggravated by him, but he's got quite the soft spot for him too.

● How perceptive Nagisa truly is. He notices the small things about his friends and their behaviors. It's so sweet

● Haru's love for weird looking creatures, like northern stoplight loose-jaw kun. He would have loved sacabambaspis.

● Haru's hobby of wood carving. I would love one of his handcrafted iwatobi chan charms.

● Also one I learned about recently: Haru actually has double-jointed knees!

#25: a piece of advice for taking care of yourself in fandom spaces

Fandom, as fun as it is, unfortunately has its rotten side. You'll inevitably come across pointless discourse of any kind during your time in it. The best thing you can do is honestly just avoid engaging with it. Don't ruin your own happiness by starting arguments with people who simply won't listen. If they're constantly popping up on your feed, simply block them and keep enjoying your side of the fandom. Constantly being met with people being destructively negative about the things you enjoy will do nothing except bring you down. It is so much nicer to just be able to enjoy things. You don't have anything to prove to anyone, and you don't need to justify yourself for liking a certain character or a ship. Just post what you want in your own circle. Be free!

(That being said, there are actually interesting discussions one can have with people who are actually willing to listen and debate properly, and those can be good experiences too. I'm just talking about discourse like ship wars or arguments like: Rin Matsuoka is a toxic character, and you're problematic if you like him!!1!!11! and such)

Quick camp chats before heading out on the road again. (I'm thinking about making straight for the creche actually, since Rakha definitely thinks it's the most important thing to do right now, and then circling back for final nautiloid map stuff on the way to the Underdark.)

Rakha questioned Gale much more thoroughly about Karsus and the fall of Netheril; even though it happened a long time ago, she's still hungry for any new knowledge, more pieces in her picture of the world. I think this is probably not the last time that he ends up just discoursing to her on some random subject or another; if there's one thing Gale can't resist, it's an attentive student, even if it's one fully capable of ripping his throat out in the wrong moment. He also explained, much to her disappointment, that there's no way she would be strong enough on her own to channel the Weave as they did together - that it requires intense study even for someone with a natural magical gift like her. She's quietly bummed about this; she was taken with the idea of showing it to Wyll.

Having talked to Dammon, we have the option to ask Karlach directly about the engine in camp. She's not willing to give the full story until the Paladins are dead, but does explain that it prevents her from touching anyone and how upset that makes her, that she can't have a hug. Rakha spends a lot of time thinking about this afterwards. She has had sex with Lae'zel and she has had Astarion's weight on her as he sucked the blood at her neck, but beyond this, her experience with physical contact of any sort is... limited. But Karlach's longing for it is obvious. It must be comforting, she decides. Like the blanket of the Weave around her. Like Wyll's hand on her arm was, last night.

Astarion is indignant about Gale's orb: "To think, Gale's had this devastating orb within himself the entire time, and only just mentioned it? Who'd keep a secret like that from his friends? You can't trust anyone these days." It takes Rakha a little while to work out that he is being ironic. His response to the question "What do you think we'll find at Moonrise Towers?" amuses me, because his phrasing feels deliberately calibrated for Rakha specifically: "Who knows? Drow? Mind flayers? Death? Hopefully not ours. But maybe answers, if we can convince the right people to talk." Death and answers are Rakha's two favorite things in the whole world.

Wyll is super cute and kinda shy. "Since the party, I've had a spring in my step, and I've got you to thank." Sadly none of the (positive) dialogue options quite fall in Rakha's blunt conversational wheelhouse, but we'll go with, "It was a lovely evening. I hope we can share even more." Because it's true - talking to him was the best part of the party for her by far. She doesn't fully understand her own feelings, but she is realizing she feels better near him than otherwise. He smiles. "I'm sure we will. And when the time comes... I've got something in mind." He raises a hand to forestall her as she opens her mouth to ask questions. "Now, now - no prodding. You don't want to spoil the surprise. But I'll say this... it'll be worth the wait." The odd sense of pleasant anticipation with which Rakha receives this information is a rather new concept for her. She isn't sure what he means... but she is curious to find out.

He also tells her a little bit about growing up as a Duke's son in Baldur's Gate. Most of his descriptions of court and nobility are somewhat lost on her-- more interesting is his description of the transition into becoming Blade of Frontiers. She asks if it was much of a change. "Yes and no," he answers. "Father taught me the four pillars of power - courage, insight, strategy, justice. He reckoned I'd follow in his footsteps, first as a Fist Marshal, then as a Duke. Vanquish evil, maintain order, save the world. But a duke makes bedfellows with more monsters than he slays. Father called it 'diplomacy'. I called it 'hypocrisy.' In the frontiers, there is no posturing, no diplomacy. I slay monsters; I don't consort with them, even if I might look like one." As usual, Rakha tucks away these foundational tenets of his philosophy to consider for herself. Courage, insight, strategy, justice. None of them mean as much to her as violence, hunger, survival, death. And yet they are, perhaps, something to aspire to, if she should ever learn to control the beast... She wonders about that last statement, though. Wyll claims not to consort with monsters - but he travels with Astarion. He travels with her. He travels with Gale and that bomb in his chest. There are many in their group who could be called monsters. What does he see when he looks at them? Does he see his presence here as just another sort of hypocrisy, deep down?

In its ceaseless attempts to introduce discourse into my life, even though I’m not following anyone that invested in it, Twitter keeps pushing quote retweets to this particular tweet into my timeline

I see about 5 of them per day, no exaggeration. All put in my timeline under the guise of “this might interest you” or “topic: Arts and design”. Most of the replies are wonderful, extremely talented artists who dunk on OP by posting their achievements that they got at a very young age. Some are very impressive, such as people getting contacted by dreamworks at age 17 to work for them. Wow!! What a wonderful opportunity~

What I dislike about this whole ordeal though is that, well. Let’s get the obvious out of the way first, OP is clearly a right wing fascist that made this tweet entirely as bait for replies, and it worked. Secondly, that pointing at something someone else made and using it to attack people is such backwards logic that he either apparently either forgot that the group of “hasn’t done anything worthwhile at 23″ includes him, he doesn’t care, or he thinks that running a fascist account on twitter counts?? Like wow that’s so brave of you, no one has been conservative on twitter before.

And finally, that as well-intentioned and talented as the artists replying to this tweet are, it doesn’t address the main issue: that age really isn’t a factor in making great things. It’s not a deadline, and it’s not proof that you’re better than others the lowest you get it, like it’s golf or something. And if you reply to this tweet being like “well I made something amazing when I was just 16″, what’s stopping OP from pointing to you instead, and going “look everyone! This person made something amazing when they were just 16. What’s YOUR excuse”.

Bottom line you shouldn’t feel bad if you’re X age and you haven’t gotten your big break yet. Maybe your greatest work happened when you were 20, good for you. Maybe it will happen when you’re 50, maybe when you’re 80. Does any of that mean that you’re lesser because you took longer? That you made the wrong choice by focusing on your studies, family, health, what have you during your youth instead of honing a craft? Is there a point to perpetuating the idea that greatness ends at 25 and everyhing you do after that is automatically failure, for some reason? Is there any point to lowering yourself to a fascist’s level in order to try to convince them that they’re wrong? Should you even bother replying to an account called the motherfucking Western Traditionalist, knowing that looking at Fountain, a piece that is over 100 years old, causes them to bust into flames and start crying about woke culture? Do you really want to prove yourself worthy to that kind of person?

Keep doing whatever it is you’re doing, take as long as you need. No worries if it takes a while to be recognized. The only people who would judge you for that are the kind of people who think alpha males are a real thing, so why care about what they think?

I've come to the conclusion that people don't like jungkook's music because it's in English. I've tried to give people the benefit of the doubt, but when you truly look at it that's what it comes down to. I have a feeling that if Seven and 3D were in korean majority of people who hate it now would love it. The biggest argument i always see is that they dont like it because its talking about s*x, and conveniently those same people praise like crazy. Like crazy is also a song about s*x lol it's just in korean. Now with 3D, I understand JH verse is a bit controversial but I found it SO funny how a majority of people who were hating on the verse switched up once there were ai covers of rapline rapping the verse. It just further proved that the lyrics weren't necessarily a problem if a bts member would rap it. I genuinely find this so weird and off putting... it seems like some army just don't want bts to get out of the kpop bubble. They only want korean lyrics and korean artists to be featured. Idk it just is a weird take imo.

And I'm not trying to silence anyone because everyone has different tastes, but honestly the criticism jungkook is getting is out of hand. I didn't like all the members' releases, but I don't go out of my way to write these long think pieces that are borderline hating. I just don't understand the point of it? Is the goal to make jungkook release music they like instead of what his artistic heart wants?

Also, this post is just in general. This has been on my mind lately, especially with how solos have reported 3D on kcharts and are trying to cancel jungkook's 3D performance on the music show.

I think it’s complicated being Jk right now. Even before Seven came out, the whole fandom was basically sure that out of all members, Jk was probably going to do best solo. I don’t think anyone is actually surprised at how well bis songs are doing. There was this expectation and it came true. At the same time though, when that expectation came true, people started to say that Jk was getting arrogant. Certain remarks of his were emphasized to proof that he was.

What it felt like for me at that point was that people didn’t mind him doing well, but they minded that he wasn’t being humble enough in their opinion. I think Jk was just feeling very proud of himself, and deservedly so. To me it looks like Jk is really happy being a part of BTS. I think he had a bit of a hard time at the beginning of the year knowing he wasn’t going to be doing what he was used to, and I think he felt really insecure. So for him to have worked through that, and to come out of it with a big hit.. that’s really something.

Right now, the discourse is a bit different. It’s very much about his image (girls everywhere) his lyrics, and him doing collabs. I think the shenanigans paired with the not so great reception of 3D lyrics was a bit of a sucky timing. They seemed to intensify each other.

Jk has talked about wanting to show himself to us as a grown up. He specifically mentioned a few times that he is now 26. By singing these songs, he’s claiming a certain adulthood (and no, that’s not the reason for him picking those songs. It’s a side effect). It’s an important thing for him I feel. He’s always been the maknae and I don’t think he’s always liked being the youngest and having been told what to do. He couldn’t even work out as much as he wanted at one point because it wouldn’t suit his young image. Jk smoking, Jk telling us he knows some might not like what they see.. it’s all him showing he’s a grown up.

People’s negative response to Jk these days do come from a place of insecurity I think. New things are often scary to people. Scared for what Jk’s succes might do to BTS, scared for who he’ll become. It’s unnecessary imo, I still see the same Jk from before.

I've been getting messages from people lately, confirming that I'm not talking much about HOTD anymore despite the trailer coming very soon ...

But, to be honest, the ASoIaF fandom isn't really fun anymore. There was a time before GOT and through Season 6 of GOT where it was a lot of fun. People knew that characters were pieces of shit but liked them anyway and were like "Fuck You, that's why I like them." And people laughed at. There was a ton of outlandish and fun theories that we all knew weren't true or plausible but we speculated about anyway just for shits and giggles.

Now, it's all so fucking personal. Now, if you like something, there's a label on you for it. Everyone thinks that all of this is life or death, or that somehow these are real people. I mean, listen, Tumblr has always been a shithole filled with morons with the most uneducated and sheltered takes in the world. But now, the entire fandom has become Tumblr. It's like there's some sort of moral equivalency to your favorite characters. And I blame Sapochnik and the HBO marketing for it mostly.

And it's not just TB, it's even a lot of fellow Greens on here too. For instance, I make the same joke that I ship Alicent/Daeron because incest shipping is so unique to ASoIaF, and you can't imagine how many people now clutch their pearls and scream like a bunch of nuns over it. Like somehow shipping Jon/Sansa or Jaime/Cersei was somehow more acceptable.

Or if you put out a funny Outlandish theory like the Daynes are actually the children of Daeron and Alicent running off to Starfall you get a bunch of weirdoes trying pushing up their glasses and "Well actually ..." a theory that everyone knows is dumb but is there for a laugh. I hate those people the most.

I just feel that the fandom isn't fun anymore and it's filled with a bunch of loser puritans trying to excommunicate one another for what was pre-2017 common discourse in the ASoIaF fandom in general.

Honestly, I don't blame you, or anyone else for that matter of being put off by this fandom.

I don't remember GoT fandom having these wild stake burning rituals for merely disagreeing with one another on character preferences and portrayals. In fact the more controversial a character or idea, the more awoiaf it is lol.

I can only blame the HBO HotD marketing team for drawing in loads of chick flick/comedy watchers into fandom who seemingly don't have a grasp of the world GRRM has set up and its grim realities and perversions.

Puritanism here is just another word for the naivety and ignorance most fans have when it comes to awoiaf. Many are convinced they're watching Mean Girls and don't shy away from being mean bullies themselves. It can be so tiring, so I get sentiment.

I do hope you can offer your 2 cents on season 2 when it airs, though. I for one have lots to rant about and It's hilarious blasting the writers for the messes they've made with you and a couple others (because to be honest, it's all we can expect from that board of writers battling their hubris with no success and destroying the story in the process).
