What are the Bad Kids' favourite Death Grips projects? (Fantasy High)

I've been having a blast watching Fantasy High: Junior Year, and I have also been relistening to a lot of Death Grips' discography. So, like I do with most of the fandoms I'm in, I'm going to guess what I think each of the Bad Kids' favourite Death Grips project would be. I will give reasoning for each one, but be warned that they are almost completely arbitrary.

Adaine Abernant: n-ggas on the moon

While on one hand I feel like Adaine would find some of the band's heavier albums a bit startling, I think she'd love n-ggas on the moon. It's got this whimsical atmosphere that I think a wizard would really vibe with, and I can see drunk Adaine wilding out to the more high energy tracks like Have A Sad Cum BB and Billy Not Really. Not to mention she'd have a great time deciphering what are arguably Death Grips' most cryptic and mysterious lyrics. This is a party wizard album for sure.

Fabian Aramais Seacaster: Fashion Week

As we all know, Fabian indulges in the finer things in life, and I think his taste in experimental Sacramento-based hip hop would be no different. Fashion Week is the closest Death Grips has ever come to luxury and I'm sure that would attract a young Seacaster. He's totally the type to brag about how refined his taste in music is, evident by how he chooses one of the band's more obscure, instrumental projects over the mainstream slop that is The Money Store. As for the music itself, I feel it's perfect for some wild interpretive dance, and I think Fabian would agree. I can already picture him doing some crazy sheet dance to Runway E.

Fig Faeth: Jenny Death

Jenny Death is the heaviest album in Death Grips' discography, almost acting as fully fledged psychedelic, punk metal album, so I can't imagine why Fig wouldn't adore it. The loud, abrasive guitars, the hypnotic production, the drums that practically punch your ears; it all just screams Fig to me! I mean when I saw the band live the songs from Jenny Death were easily the ones that caused the crowd to go completely wild, and we all know Fig loves a wild crowd. Even the names of the songs are perfect for her: I Break Mirrors With My Face In the United States, Centuries of Damn, Beyond Alive, and The Powers That B all sound like they came right from the Archdevil's own mind.

Also yes, I'm aware I missed an opportunity to assign her Bottomless Pit, but these are the sacrifices I make for accuracy.

Gorgug Thistlespring: Exmilitary

For a barbarian drummer, I can see no better fit than the band's debut mixtape, Exmilitary. This mixtape is so raw and primal, I mean the drums sound like war drums. We already know that Gorgug loves heavy, intense music, so I think he'd totally rock with this. I also think that the tape's unique, grinding production would appeal to his artificer side; it's a perfect mix of rage and technology, and I can imagine him blasting something like Takyon or Guillotine as he hacks through some enemies.

Kristen Applebees: Government Plates

For someone who's constantly riddled with feelings of doubt and confusion while also maintaining a general aura of weirdness (affectionate), I think Government Plates is a good pick for Kristen. It's the kind of album that you have to sit down and listen to a couple times before you really vibe with it; it doesn't want to be understood, but that doesn't mean you should stop trying! Not to mention the pure emotional intensity of tracks like You Might Think He Loves You... (I'm not writing the full title.), Two Heavens, and Bootleg (Don't Need Your Help) suit Kristen very well imo. An underappreciated album for an underappreciated character.

Riz Gukgak: No Love Deep Web

And for everyone's favourite little weirdo is what I consider Death Grips' certified weirdo album (They're all weirdo albums, but this one especially so). Though my reason for choosing No Love Deep Web as Riz's favourite Death Grips project isn't because of the music itself, but rather the history surrounding this album. If you didn't know, this album was released through a secret Alternate Reality Game on the deep web where fans had to solve incredibly cryptic puzzles over a few days in order to gain access to a link that allowed them to torrent the album, and I think that Riz would be all over that shit; I can imagine him setting up a little cork board with all of the clues and whatnot strung up. I don't even know if he'd even like the music, I think he's just invested in the mystery!

14 - fondest memory

In the vault, she has a few:

For sure playing baseball, she’s not an athletic person by any means so it was nice to not be picked last for a sport FINALLY

Following her dad around the clinic when she was younger and eventually being old enough to help out

Study group with Amata (really just them hanging out and only studying and doing homework for half of the time)

She also values her alone time a lot, can definitely picture her in her teenage years as her dad spends more and more time in the lab snuggling with a book and playing a vinyl in her bedroom

And Jonas… my beloved… he helped her shoot her BB gun and make more elaborate shooting ranges (more than James would’ve consented). He also caught her getting drunk on wine by herself one time and she convinced him to join her. It was like drinking with your uncle.

I would give some wasteland ones but they are spoilers so they must wait…

16. Biggest regret

Not asking more questions of her dad and generally being quite shy as a kid. She could tell certain questions (about the outside world, the overseer, her mom) were a really sore subject for her dad, so to spare him she decides to stop asking him hard questions. He’s stressed enough with the clinic and the lab and being a single parent as it is. I think she also regrets being so shy/to herself during her younger years - because she can tell the vault residents don’t universally love her dad (even when he’s really nice and helps everyone?) she just decides she can’t make a scene or act out and put a bigger target on his back, so she can’t really be a normal teenager and get into trouble. It’s a different level of responsibility when you know your dad has a target on his back for some unknown reason. But then out in the wasteland she can’t really be irresponsible either, so she doesn’t get a chance to relax :(

32. Favorite weapon/weapon class

The Chinese assault rifle is her shiiiit. Technically she loves her baseball bat but I think she avoids using it because memories and also fuck up close and personal fights. The few times she has to she gets emotional and cries because it just keeps getting ruined with every hit so it goes into storage pretty quickly.

39. Fave song

Felicity doesn’t like sad songs… there’s enough of that in her life. So she only listens to fun stuff (civilization, anything goes). I also HC that she likes down in Mexico by the coasters… I read a good kink meme fill about that song with butchxlw so I’m totally normal about it now. She will also listen to classical music with no lyrics bc head empty just vibes.

Unrelated to the question but she really really hates butcher Pete. She was humming the tune under her breath (bc why does three dog have it in rotation so much!!) and Butch started laughing at her… she said idk why a song about this violent guy is so popular but it is catchy… imagine the look on her face when Butch told her it was about sex. Oh he still hasn’t let that one go.

Since I recommended a song about Rafe's potential pov or feeling during the post-breakup, I might as well recommend the reader's pov during their post-breakup. The song that would fit the reader's post-breakup situation is "Tears Dry On Their Own" by: Amy Winehouse.

Another way of saying that, Rafe's, takes the light (daylight) from her life when they decided to breakup. That within the 1st to 2nd weeks of their breakup, the reader's world was all just black and has no light at all to guide her from healing or moving on.

Based on the attitude of the reader in the present timeline, she was atleast able to stand her ground and didn't even bother crawling back to Rafe. The experience(breakup) has matured her and now she can see it all from a different place. She didn't talk about their breakup even though she was given alot of chance to do so during their broadcast. Didn't talk bad about Rafe even though there's alot of hints that he was at fault and thr reason of their breakup, and didn't give the listeners of their broadcast a hint that she wasn't the one at fault but Rafe even if it would lead to her being bullied in atlas and irl (Physical even but our girlboss fought back. AS SHE SHOULD).

She was that strong even if the breakup tore her apart, she stand on her ground and be THAT GIRL. Which is good for her🤌. The rest of the lyrics and the string beat is already self-explanatory. She is the GIRLBOSS.

Additionally: whatever, sof, did I'm sure the song "Wildflower" by: Billie Eilish would fit her and the situation before the breakup happened. The lyrics behind it, and the meaning, it screams "I'm sorry girly, I fvcked up your rs." or "I'm sorry girly, I'm one or main reason behind your breakup."

Thots on the new Lana record?

love love it but who is surprised.

i absolutely adore the direction she has been taking since blue banisters of production that is rough around the edges, less cinematic, more raw, more direct, improvisational. it matches the content of her lyrics, finally turning inwards and writing from the perspective of elizabeth (not lizzy) grant. she's already built a whole world in her past albums now she gets to explore the real world.

its her most morbid, one of her creepiest, and definitely the work where she literalizes her subtextual interest in death. its full circle to born to die. she has found beauty in nihilism, or rather, she has come to terms with the LIGHT inherent in death. Death is dark of course, which is why the album's production feels so cavernous and echoe-y (especially in the interludes and Candy necklaces) but the album seems to be her journey into accepting death as a necessarily correlative to life. If one has lust for life, one has to first understand the beauty in death. It is a culmination of that element of her conceptual project.

As usual, the biggest issue with post NFR lana is one of editing. I personally don't mind it, i think it is a reflection of her newfound anti-perfectionist attitude. I am also a devout fan and even her worst song i find enjoyable. But from teh perspective of a music critic, there is a way in which NFR and COCC could be made into an album + deluxe and BB and Tunnel could be made into the same. I think that post-NFR lana is not an album artist but a discography artist. I find the last two albums have very similar formal elements, and by formal elements, i mean her abdication to force. She is letting go of her obsession with form and letting her raw emotion determine the course of her melodies and production. She has always been a figure of dionysian intoxication in her lyrical content, but with this album, she takes that dionysian excess of energy to form, as she unravels the strict apollonian discipline taht marked the multilayered and lush production of her early work. Black bathing suit and its messy percussions was her first foray into that style but Fingertips takes it to the logical conclusion. Total automatic writing in the style of the surrealists. Totally letting affect and memory define the content and form of the song and letting melody and production come later.

It is not what fans of early lana would like her to do but i find it incredibly impressive that she can contineu to experiment with her sound so much 10+ years into her career without losing taht essential lana point of view. that is what i have always loved about her most. how specific yet elastic her perspective can be, and in tunnel she truly pulls taht elasticity to places it had never gone before. She still has songs liek Let the Light In and Grandfather and paris,texas with straight-forward beautiful melodies but it feels all around less grand. less cinematic, less about sending the listener into a fantastical work and more about making the listener confront the real world. She continues to be the queen of melancholy but she is less interested in romanticizing it (dont get me wrong, i still think this is what shes best at) and more invested in finding ways to assimilate it. HEr family seems to be like teh best conduit for it because it confronts her with cycles of life and death, sadness and happiness that are primordial, ancestral and escape the individual. her worldbuilding was always solipsistic and shes finally opening it up.

Great great stuff happening all over.

🪷 ALSOALSO just as I hit the ask button I just..thought about how utterly tragic gojo's life was when he was alive. Nothing but a vessel to hold power, a vessel used by clan structures to maintain the rotting society, a weapon that was seen as a threat or hope but never as a human with his own emotions or feelings behind. None of that was reserved for him.

I know people think Gege is losing his mind but honestly I'm not surprised they went down this route. It's cruel and absolutely fucking brutal but I feel like that's the whole point. To not be freed from the label of "the strongest" even in your death, to the extent that your corpse has to be used to win a fight or get an edge against the villian is a brilliant and cruel way to show the burden of the duty that fell on his shoulders.

If it's any consolation atleast he's with his most cherished people now. I did kind of tear up at the chapter because holy hell. His arc and entire character is genuinely tragic. Everything that has happened so far somehow showed why gojo was so deeply attached to geto and those three years despite everything that went wrong between the two of them. He had someone who saw him as Satoru first and not the six eyes user, who shared his burden and thanked him for his efforts instead of just treating it as something he's supposed to do anyway. It's not in the least bit surprising that gojo still considered him his one and only best friend, regardless of the differences that ultimately separated them.

At the very least his death was kind. To go back to the time you cherished so dearly, surrounded by people you care for, being able to be vulnerable and to finally be able to let go of that burden on you as the strongest. Enjoy your time now, you did everything and so much more to have deserved this freedom.

i agree. it's so wildly dehumanizing and i despise gege for going in this direction, but there is also a part of me that thinks it's an interesting direction to take gojo's character. the problem is, there is no window of light through the story he is telling, and it's starting to become too much. it's different if there was a balance of angst and relief, but to do such a thing to such a beloved character when we haven't known a single chapter of peace in so long is just too much. i personally cannot handle it, but even through my sadness i can kinda see the vision.

agreed, it's so tragic how things ended up for him and geto but i always loved the detail that he never truly hated him, he just hated the things that he did. it's so hard to let go of a connection w someone like that, after all geto was the only one to truly see him as a person. also this is random but people feeling bad for shoko when gojo said geto was the only person he truly called his friend sfkshdfkjsd after latest chap it's so obvious why he didn't really think of her as a friend AHHAH

Support Jimin til The End

I dont want to be labeled as Solo Stan but the recent sabotages and twitter feeds have been making me feel sad for Jimin. I feel that Face album face a great injustice with Hanteo, YT views, Spotify splitting the English and Korean version, & the sheer short period that it was allowed to air. Not to mention BB Hot 100 chart.

I am a baby army myself hence I was quite perplexed on how Hybe / BH could bungle Jimin solo debut badly. And thats an understatement from my part. Face to me is a masterpiece. From the concept, music, vocals, emotions transmitted by the lyrics, and the flow of the album itself. Its like Jimin is a story teller but his story is so relatable that it resonates to the General Public not just army. Hence the short period it was allowed to languish is just a TRAGEDY.

Some may say that lets be an adult here. Good music will last and eventually reach GP (general public). But we are currently living in a fast moving environment where news changes in the speed of light. Just take FED stance on US interest rates. They can change within weeks. My point being here is that if there is a way to put on more promotions to hype Face so it can reach GP then why not. Some may also argue that army is too fixated with charts and ranking. I would argue that for an artist song to trend and be pushed towards GP feeds / fyp, they need to trend. For that song to trend, statistics matter. Number of views matter. Number of plays matter. And I think the most basic description of a fan is basically spreading good music of their artist towards non fans.

So when wk 2 happened and Jimin was on an isolated basis booted off top 10 of BB hot 100.. I put on my investigative hat to determine whether Jimin was really sabotaged either by the industry or by his own Company.

I think we wont beat the dead horse with regards to being discriminated upon on BB charts because it didnt happen only to Jimin. But also BTS. So I started facts checking about the discrimination within Hybe / BH that was insinuated by many. And when Suga album dropped I can see discrepancy with regards to Hanteo chart as well as YT views. Hanteo didnt freeze for x hours and erase c. 700k of Jimin's album. YT also didnt delete as many views. So I admit I was a bit ticked and thought wow this narrative of him being sabotaged by his own Company must be true.

But then ... on my Twitter feed I came across PJM account twitting their playlists being reported because they solely have Jimin's songs in it and not Suga too. Please refer to pic below.

Now the dots starting to connect for me. I was having trouble believing that Jimin was singlehandedly discriminated against at Hybe. Just because the set and cinematography they put out for Set Me Free Part 2 is BTS level and not B-side level. It must have cost a pretty penny for them to even involve so many dancers for SMF pt 2 not to mention the built up set.

Hence I came to the conclusion that its not so much a sabotage from Hybe / BH but a matter of prioritization. Hybe / BH is in a catch 22 situation where if they push or champion Jimin too much then they risk angering another part of BTS fandom; the toxic part of the fandom that is.

Eventhough Im a Jimin bias, I love many of BTS discography. Jimin recruited me during ON era and I came to love JK and Jhope. But the fandom need to understand that being human means that you will have your own preference / favorites. Liking 1 member more than the others does not equal to a collosal sin. OT7 or Nothing. I can be Jimin bias and still love on the street and put it on repeat because that genre is easy listening to my ear. Do I love all of Jimin's solo? Honestly serendipity never resonates within me but I put Promise, Filter and With You on repeated playlist.

I think some of the members have realized that Army is becoming so big that there are some solos that are toxic. This is why most of the members always hype the OT7 principles. But the message may be lost in translation. The members themselves said that if you are an army you would love all members. On the flipside of it is Jimin saying him cutting off friends who talked badly about any members of BTS. But in essence what they are trying to promote I think is "dont hate any of the members".

By now Im sure these nearing 30s boys are well verse in human relationship and its complicated dynamics. They themselves have members whom they are closer to as compared to the others. And this might change as they grow. Because people grow and change. Suga and Jimin himself said that human relationship is complicated but needed in life. Suga also stated that he is comfortable being in the back during performances because he believes in the 3Js delivering stunning performances. Remember what he said is that BTS works because they respect each other for the skills that each member has.

Healthy competition is good to keep them on their toes; striving to be the best, to be the trendsetter. But I believe they are also very much aware of their own specialities (edge) and shortcomings. Suga / RM are composers / producers. They have many credits on songwritings. They are set in life and I believe they know it too; especially Suga.

Would argue that even though I love Jimin but he coddled the army too much in the sense that he thinks army is teenage girls / boys. Well I wouldnt completely blame him with the way they are behaving currently. But I think the OT7 message that they are trying to deliver got lost in translation and they need to come up with a new way of delivering the true OT7 meaning; no hates just love. Fortunately with Chapter 2, seems like we are moving in the right direction where we see Suga breaking down the smoking stereotype, Jimin dancing to a more risque coreagraphy and RM calling out fans during his lives.

Army comes from different geographies and backgrounds. While some seems more well to do than others given that BTS concerts which is very costly always sold out, some stream members' song using prepaid data. Meaning its not even wifi or broadband internet. They are using quotas to stream songs. Hence its not fair to ask everyone to support all members' projects equally.

I wish Army will reflect and gather to spread positivity / love rather than hatred.

We certainly need a better game plan for PJM2. But in the meantime I will continue to stream Face.

I agree with you so much on hsh being his 1989. Both 1989 and HsH got them the fame/appreciation that Red/FL never did despite it being superior art. Both of them made it sonically cohesive because their previous album was criticised for sound.The albums were commercially successful but that resulted in their overexposure that made me feel disconnected(its me,hi I'm the disconnect anon)Holivia was everywhere the way tayvin was in 1989.To me FL was therapy in a record. Golden made me forget about the bad things and focus on good things.WS made me yell from top of my lungs. Falling made me embrace the pain and FL gave me strength with 'we'll be alright '. Hsh couldn't give me that. Plus both hsh and 1989 is happy pop disguised with sad lyrics

hi disconnect anon bb <333 right, you completely understand what i mean by that. it doesn't mean the more successful/popular records aren't also great as their own things, they are, but for me there's a difference in connection and empathy/meaning in them as whole pieces. and the pitfalls of major success and initially fun popularity unfortunately come along due to the glare of that spotlight often turning harsh. i'd imagine it's difficult to find your bearings in it and that results in a certain distance from artists themselves too. (and yeah, the omnipresence of the relationships and the fallout are also similar.) the deceptive sound of both 1989 and harry's house too, exactly - they're shiny and upbeat, they're far more sonically cohesive, but quite a bit of both records is very sad/lonely/damaged underneath if you only note the words, even though hsh does have radiant warm/homey vibes to me too. fine line narratively works for me so much like red does (it's no wonder why i love both albums dearly) - beginning at that beautiful moment (this is the golden age of something good, and right, and real) but having worries underneath (you're my achilles' heel/i know that you're scared because i'm so open), the exhilaration of being in love and continuing to fall until it becomes a bone crushing crash, hurting and asking how everything could go so wrong, then slowly surfacing and finding your way again, trying to heal and start anew. and the fact that they do that with ups and downs of melody and with varying genre experimentation. it hit me hard when fine line first came out and i hear it every time. they both give me such a rare feeling. To me FL was therapy in a record. same. it IS therapeutic, and pieces of art that affect us in that way make such a real difference to us.

A Review on NCT 127′s 3rd Album <Sticker>

So NCT 127 just came back with their 3rd Full Album <Sticker> and this is my first 127 comeback since I became a fan last year! Neozone is such a special album for me as it was their first album that I explored entirely. I've known NCT as the group who never fails any expectations so I've kept mine up although I know they'll exceed it anyway. And guess what, they did! I absolutely love their new album hence this review~

This isn't a technical music review—as I am not a musician myself—but rather a listener's honest takes, goofy notes, and interpretation on each of the tracks in the album. I admit I've also struggled to build my own opinions on some of the tracks until I listened to them over and over again.

I have also heard there are mixed opinions on the title track <Sticker> and a lot says it's another acquired taste. But I think it's not just that, as it can be a grower, just like how most of NCT's songs were for me. Maybe after a few listens and a right passage of time, it will grow on those people. The bottom line here is, I like it a lot! 😛

So I listed down the songs according to their respective track numbers and followed each with a bulleted list of my opinions and interpretations.

To those complaining it sounding like noise music, imagine it sounding generic. I don't think it would fit as the title track. Not a b-track or in their repertoire, even. They are called NCT because they define the NEO in the music culture and music technology!

It honestly was an unorthodox, just like all of their title tracks, which I’m inherently here for.

The growls and the vocal flexes and adlibs! (You can tell it has Yoo Youngjin's brand.)

The crisp metronome sound that’s consistently ticking except for the pre-chorus and the dance break adds depth to the soundscape. I love how it’s used instead of the usual snaps.

The production quality blew my mind. Like how can someone think those melodies would sound so exquisite? CAN I CALL THEM GENIUS?

The piano at the back, oh my God—Yes! It adds this mystifying element to the song.

I'm not sure if it's a midi violin at the pre-chorus, but it added thrill to the song. It was a great transition from the bass line in the verses to the combination of the flawless harmony with the same instrumental.

I think I crumbled from this one.

This hit so hard I felt like I fit in the shoes with the lyrics throughout the entire song.

What’s fascinating is I clearly forgot the title when I mentally said this sounds like a sad rainy day song from the first listen.

Something I’d turn up when it suddenly rains, just because I want to feel the blues.

Taeil and Haechan singing in lower register? I wanna cry :( they’re just one of the best vocalists in K-music industry right now.

Could have been also nice if they added Yuta to the vocals.

And the fact that they sang it so good that it translated every ounce of the emotions well even before I looked up for English translations is the reason why I love this song too.

The jumpy vibe from the first verse to the pre-chorus set the mood for this song. It sounds merry and heavy. It was honestly too much to take until I’ve reached the chorus part.

Honestly, I think this song could fit NCT Dream better, as it gives off a vibe similar to Hello Future's b-tracks. If some credible source say this could have made HF’s track list, I might believe you too fast.

Also Dream’s Deja Vu where they go na nananananana na na na~

A super car on a super speed just whooshed past you and you look its way as it zips through the road. It's gone in an instant but you're floored dumbfounded at a sidewalk. That's how I describe this song.

8. Magic Carpet Ride

This song… Wow. Oh gosh it's so beautiful.

Their harmony in the chorus—it makes me want to kiss someone so passionately that I'd cry.

This makes me want to feel love that transcends the universe. Literally, just please take me on a magic carpet ride :(

The background harmonies too oh my goodness—HEAVENLY.

Jaehyun's voice is so warm and soulful it fits perfectly with songs of this genre.

Okay alright Doyoung Grande!

And Taeil makes me feel like I'm listening to old school R&B.

The first time I heard this from the track video, I can't stop replaying because it's just that great.

This makes me want to love. I think that sums it up.

9. Road Trip

This is such a soothing song for me, especially how I easily become nostalgic thinking about the road trips I've had.

Whenever I listen to this, my brain immediately conjures up thoughts of my ideal getaways. Gazing at the sky through the car window, stirring up from a nap in the middle of the ride, and   eventually reaching your destination.

Oh, to travel around anywhere... (curse you covid-19)

I could also imagine Mark playing this on the guitar and the other members sing along together, something like that.

I love how it evokes such a nice emotion within me effortlessly.

Eyyyy such a refreshing song!

This song is so bright it makes me want to dance. I play this first in the shower!

It reminds me so much of Elevator (from Neozone)

The horns make it more lively I think!

Yuta and Jungwoo's voice suits lively songs like this.

The background vocal in low register in Taeyong's part in the first verse is so good ahhfhf

There's this part where Doyoung and Johnny harmonized, that at first listen they seemed to clash, but it sounded actually fine after a few listens. Maybe it's just that I've never heard them do it before.

MY FIRST LOVE AND MOST FAVORITE SONG IN THE ALBUM!!!

The first time I heard this from their NCIT Sharehouse Sitcom, I fell in love with the song already.

It sounds like something you'd feel from a warm, welcoming hug.

The lyrics are so beautiful and endearing. It's definitely a be-there-for-you type of song that will touch your heart.

It definitely sounds like a promise.

A song about platonic intimacy.

This really fits to be the closing song of the album. It's like the end of it but holds a promise that says “see you soon.”

Because they cherish their fans like that.

It's also like I've watched a movie with a happy ending, where the camera pans up to the clear sky and this song starts playing.

Speaking of ending, I would love to hear them sing this as an encore stage in their concert. You know, that moment just before the stage lights die down at the end of the concert where they send final blows of flying kisses to NCTzens. Then you come home smiling and crying.

This wasn't supposed to be this long since I originally planned to write this with just simple phrases and emojis but I got too engrossed lol. I also meant to include my own ratings but I figured it’s pointless since I can’t really decide about them hahaha

I really enjoyed the whole album and I love how they're progressively defining what NEO means by breaking through standards. It's not NCT music if it doesn't make you say "WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT?" But then you realize it’s stuck in your head and you’re enjoying it already.

You don't have to like or agree with all of the career or personal choices that someone you're a fan of makes. People taking on shitty, beneath them roles or making subpar music or dating sleeping with associating with vapid idiots doesn't make me any less a fan of their previous (or potential future) work.

I'm excited for this GDT show episode. I am very curious about why he needed to be cleanshaven because I think it makes him look like a child, and I'm leery because Netflix is behind it ... but I'm excited to see what he does with horror and with a script written by someone that I KNOW has some serious horror-creating talent.

I've "blasted" him for taking on a role as a manipulative villain that emotionally abuses and physically maims a teenager, and talking about it like there's any actual redeeming qualities to the character. I am too old for poorly written YA that is nothing but tropes. I am DEFINITELY too old for multiple seasons of overacting and shitty, low budget special effects.

Shadow and Bone wasn't the first of Ben's projects that I've side eyed when it comes to quality, either. Locked In was a goddamn dumpster fire. By The Gun was AWFUL. We don't need to pretend like everyone liked them.

I've blasted him about his COVID travel and his association with Julianne Hough for good reasons that I've gone into in detail before and won't do it again. But I know too many people that lost loved ones to COVID to ignore him blatantly disregarding the things that he used his IG to promote for MONTHS and to flat out deny personal involvement with another person that never once took it seriously.

If they'd admitted that they were actually together and didn't play up the "we're just friends!" angle, it would have been a different story. It's hard to fault someone for doing the types of things he did with her with someone that they're in an actual relationship with, but anyone that had fuckbuddies or hookups with strangers during COVID is going to get seriously judged by me - especially when you go out of your way to hide it by blocking people and deleting comments.

I've blasted his music, because I do not like it. I think the lyrics are juvenile for the most part, and the fact that he's spent so much time talking about how "from the heart" and "deep" and "introspective" they are ... and then he releases fucking songs about Tinkerbell and 11:11 and using word salad just to make things rhyme and then making two music videos where all he does is stare at the camera and look sad because women left him or he never even had them in the first place... I'm gonna question it.

If it's so meaningful to him and such a labor of love, give us more than thinly veiled "well it's not about anyone specific, it's about the things I've felt over the years". Don't spend 3 months as a 40 year old man playing emoji tag on IG and then get defensive when people assume that the songs are about one person - without ever outright denying that it's about them.

It's great that he was finally able to create and release music of his own. I'm happy that he's doing something that makes him happy, but when you release things like this - or take on "difficult" roles or date problematic people ... you open yourself up to criticism from the press and from fans. I've NEVER just blindly liked everything someone does because I'm overall a fan. My favorite band has made a few CDs that I don't like. I skip over a lot of songs on them and even on the albums that I love, too, but that doesn't mean that I like their other body of work any less. There are movies and shows that other actresses and actors that I follow have made that are flat out HORRIBLE, and I've never not admitted that. (We Can Be Heroes and Wonder Woman 84, I mean YOU specifically).

Ben has a great voice and some serious musical talent, but it's not showcased with this EP very well, and I prefer his covers to his original content.

You can be criticial of actors and musicians and artists and friends and family when they do things you don't like or approve of without turning away from them.

It's healthy to be critical of the things and people you enjoy. I have a lot of opinions and thoughts and if you've followed my blog for any period of time, you know that I've never been shy about that. I do not sugarcoat things unless there is an absolute NEED to do so - and Ben Barnes is a 40 year old man (and a public figure!) and should be able to handle some criticism when it's legitimate.

Corduroy Dreams

Pairing: Giyuu & Reader Synopsis: There was no mishap, no death, no tragic accident to speak of. They were only two people, who felt lonely even when they had each other.

Tags/warnings: angst. relationship problems.

A/N: something short and angsty that I wrote instead of doing homework UwU. Online classes are killing me, so as a coping mechanism, I did the fun thing and churned this out in an hour or so (so apologies for any mistakes/inconsistencies _:(´□`」 ∠):_ )!!! And yes, the title is from the song Corduroy Dreams by Rex Orange County. (try listening to it while reading, and try to listen to the lyrics. You’ll understand why i named this corduroy dreams)

For the first time in a while, Giyuu feels your hand—warm, soft, and familiar—reach out to tug at his jacket. You pull him aside to a quiet area in the park and lead him to take a seat. Besides the two of you, there was no one else, save for the occasional passerby who was barely even close enough to hear the conversation you were about to start.

“You’re no longer happy.” It wasn’t a question - there was nothing questionable about something that was so painfully obvious.

Not with you, he wants to say. He wants to salvage what he can, but he could see it. He could see how your eyes didn’t light up the way it used to and he’s aware that this relationship was failing. There was nothing else he could do.

“I am.” But not with you, he itched to add. He was unhappy that your happiness no longer included him, but he couldn’t say what he wanted, not when you were looking at him like this. “And so are you.”

Maybe this was it. No, this was it. There was no coming back from this conversation, and that’s why he never started it. He was too much of a coward to instigate it, and perhaps the only regret he had when it came to this relationship was that he pushed that responsibility onto you.

“Yeah.”

He was aware that this relationship has been failing—both of you tried to save it after all. There wasn’t an exact moment where he could pinpoint when it started. All he knew was that despite making plans and meet-ups, you two started seeing each other less and less, until it left you both on this date, unhappy and feeling heavy with what was about to come.

“I’m sorry.”

There didn’t need to be any more questions. Giyuu knew you were faithful, and you knew he never strayed. It was just a matter of letting go and accepting that this was going nowhere.

“I know. I’m sorry too.” You turn from your seat on the bench and Giyuu has never felt so far away from you, even though there was only a foot of distance in between. 

He still loved you. He still loved you so, so much. But when you were no longer happy with him, he wouldn’t be able to bear the thought that you no longer wanted to be in this relationship. So, if his only regret when it came to you was that you were the one who started this, he’ll lessen your burden and be the one to end it. “I… I guess this is it?”

“I guess this is it.” Your hands turn white from how hard you’ve been clenching them into fists, and he could see them trembling slightly. Any other day and he would’ve taken them in his own—you always liked it when he held them. Right now, he kept his hands to himself.

“We’re breaking…”  His throat closes at the word breaking, because he could feel his own heart already breaking. But he clears his throat and pushes on, because you deserve a clean break. You deserve to have a clear stand between all of this. “We’re breaking up, huh?”

“Yeah.”

“Okay.” You answer, and look at him when the silence starts to feel unbearable.

“I’m sorry Giyuu.”

“I’m sorry too, (y/n)”

You stand, and turn to look at him. He gives you a small smile—he knows you could see through it. Instead of addressing the heavy atmosphere, you smile at him, and he realizes that this would be the last time you’d smile for him.

“Thank you, Giyuu. I really loved you.”

Loved. Past tense.

“...Yeah. Thanks for the past few years too. I hope you find someone who’ll make you happy.”

You bend down a little and pull him into a hug. He’ll miss this, he’ll miss you, but letting you go was the right thing to do. Your happiness is what he wishes for the most in the world, and if that was no longer with him, then he hopes you find it with yourself or someone else.

The hug ends entirely too soon for Giyuu’s taste, and you give him another small smile before you turn on your heels to hide the tears clouding your eyes. Even if this relationship no longer brought you the joy it did the first few years, leaving him still hurt because you still cared for him even if you didn’t necessarily love him anymore. Breaking things off when you no longer had feelings for him was the kindest thing you could do - he deserved that much.

From the bottom of your heart, you apologized that you couldn’t give your all to him, and wished that someone else would, in your place.

“I’ll see you around, yeah?”

Giyuu nods, but then speaks when he realizes you can’t see him with your back turned. “See you.”

Your shoes clack against the pavement and it sounds like it’s echoing through the park as you leave him be.

He watches your back, and he watches as you get on the cab. He beats down the feeling of wanting to chase after you, but this was already hard enough. So he stays put on the park bench that he’ll hate for the rest of his life, and buries his head in his hands.

For the first time in a while, Giyuu cries.

a/n: I mostly do Giyuu fluff but I procrastinated real bad and made this mess instead but aaaa, this is my first angst fic so I hope I did good? I’ve also never been in a relationship, let alone a break-up before so this has been me, winging it the entire time lmao

You were gonna kill him. God, that man was getting on your last nerve. John Winchester ever the terrible father. Adjusting the strap of your rifle, you pulled back the moth eaten curtain ever so slightly, peering out into the darkness. The only light came from the buzzing neon sign of the otherwise empty motel, the bright blues and reds flickering as if they were at the end of their life.

“Y/N, when is dad gonna be back?”

“I’m not sure, Sam.” Turning to look over your shoulder, you gave the young eight year old a soft smile. “Just keep doing your homework.”

“But I don’t wanna. It’s boring.”

“Well too bad mister. You gotta.” Leaning across the small table, you ruffled his hair- only for him to bat your hand away.

“But what about Dean?”

“I’m helping Y/N guard the door.” Dean piped up from his spot on the other side of you, his chin resting on the windowsill as he watched two raindrops race down the pane of glass.

“Yeah, nice try there Bub.” Shifting the strap on your should once again, you turned Deans head towards Sam, nudging him out of his chair. “You sir should be helping your brother with his homework.”

The freckled twelve year old let out a groan before sliding out of his seat and walking around the table towards his brother. “This is bullshit-“

“Woah hey! Language! Just because dad curses like a sailor does not mean you get a free pass to do so.”

“. . .Sorry.”

“Yeah that’s what I thought.” You nodded, leaning your weight against the wall as you peered out the window once more. He should have been back by now. Whatever he was hunting was holding him up. If anything happened here all you had to keep the boys safe was your hunting rifle- nothing else except a damn knife. once again: John Winchester, ever the terrible father.

Rolling your shoulders you could feel the rifle resting against your back, the feeling similar to the way your mothers hand had when you were small and afraid. Taking another deep breath you pulled your fingers into the sleeves of your canvas barn coat in an attempt to keep warm. The heating in the room sucked and you had relinquished all your other coats to the boys to keep them warm.

“Y/N, why can’t you help Sam? You’re way smarter than me.”

“Oh why thank you, Dean.” You grinned, eyes still trained on the empty parking lot. You knew what that little minx was trying to do. “But your flattery isn’t gonna get you out of the task.”

You heard another groan from behind you, before a light thunk as Dean hit his head on the table. “This. thunk  Is. thunk  So. thunk  Dumb.”

A light laugh of amusement bubbled up from your lips as you looked over your shoulder. “You keep doing that and your aim isn’t gonna be so straight anymore.”

At that Dean stopped, lifting his head from the table to glare at you. “You’re not so straight- anymore-“ he tried, his failure at a comeback amusing you all the more.

“Wow, great comeback right there. Really, I’m proud.”

Deans eyes narrowed as he pushed back the work he was helping Sam with, before popping up to stand on the creaky old chair.

“Dean! My work!” Sam let out a whine as he tried to gather the papers.

“You wanna go?!”

A wicked grin spread across your face as you slid off the rifle and set it on the table, beckoning him with your hands to try and come at you. “Bring it Bub, let see if you can really tackle your sister to the ground.”

In that moment you swore the freckled rascal became a blur, launching himself across the table at you with a playful yell as he barreled into you. But unfortunately for him he was half your size and you were stronger. Your arms locked around him and you were quickly throwing him over your shoulder, locking him in place as he tried to squirm free.

“Wow, I thought you were actually gonna do it this time. I’m a little disappointed.” You joked, walking across the room to deposit him on one of the beds.

“It’s not a fair fight! You’re sixteen! You’re supposed to let me win!”

“It’s not a fair fight-“ you mimicked his whine before dropping your shoulders, hands on your hips. “If I let you win how are you gonna get better, huh?”

Dean was silent, eyes narrowing as he watched you turn to head back to Sam. . . But you didn’t get far before he lunged at you again, locking onto your back and pulling you backwards and onto the mattress.

“Hah! How bout that?”

“How bout that? Alright, you asked for it-“ you quickly flipped, pinning your brother to the bed as you pinched his sides. A shriek of laughter echoing around the room.

“Tickling?! That’s playing dirty!”

“Oh is it? Not in my rule book-“

The both of you were too engrossed in your tickle war that you didn’t hear the scrape of a chair across the linoleum floors or the sound of small feet running across the room towards you, and suddenly you were being crushed by another flannel clad boy, the sudden weight making you fall back agasint the mattress,both brothers climbing on top of you.

I must go alone

Cause I need you there

So my memory of home is full

“Sam!”

“You were having fun without me.” He gave you a sad pout, his eyes big and bright.

“Alright, I’m sorry. . . But did you guys have to dog pile me?” You wheezed, trying to squirm free only for Dean to lay down completely on top of you, Sam right behind him as they both grinned.

“Yes!”

“Oh, you little bastards-“ you grinned once more, trying to wrench your arms free to tickle them into submission. But the playful tone of it all quickly ceased when a ear shattering shriek seeped through the cracks of the motel door, freezing all of you in place as you looked up, suddenly alert.

“What was that?”

“Y/N-“ Sam let out a small whimper, suddenly curling into your side as you sat upright, Dean resting on his knees besides you.

“Shhh, I need you both to be quiet alright?” You spoke softly, sliding of the bed and onto the ground, your movements almost completely silent as you worked your way across the room and grabbed your rifle. “Stay behind me.”

A moment or two of complete silence fell over the three of you before another shriek echoed from beyond the thin walls of the motel making you jump.

Someone was out there. Someone needed help.

Quickly spinning around, you knelt down in front of Dean before passing over your shotgun. “You know how to shoot this right?”

“No! Dad still has me practicing with the BB shotgun you got me for my birthday-“ the slight waver in Deans voice making your heart break.

“Well, it’s the same basic concept.” You breathed, helping him adjust the weapon in his arms.

“Y/N! You can’t leave us here.”

Not trying to take my time away

Replace the old with new

My prison with my reasons right

Till I come back to you

“Dean, somebody might need my help. I need you to stay here and keep Sam and yourself safe okay?”

For a moment there was silence but then Dean nodded, “o-okay.”

“Alright, now you’re gonna wanna lean right into that stock.” You sighed, turning your attention back to the gun in Deans hands. “Cause it’s gonna kick a hell of a lot more than any BB rifle. Okay, go ahead and pull the bolt back. Grab it right here. Just tug it. There you go.” You nodded, watching as Dean did what you told him to. “Now, as soon as you fire your gonna want to get another round in there quick.” You added, popping back up on your heels as you reached for your knife that had been sitting idly by on the side table. You only made it a step to the door before you heard them both call out again.

“Y/N, we should wait for dad-“ Sam peered around Deans shoulder, eyes now big and worried. They both looked so afraid- god, it broke your heart.

“I know, Sammy- but there are people out there that might need help.” You knelt down once more, finding it easier to speak to them at eye level. “Now, listen to me. If I get into trouble out there, you make every shot count, yeah?”

“I got this.” Dean nodded, his sudden face of determination make you smile lightly.

“I know you do.” Leaning forward you quickly placed a kiss on top of both of their heads before popping back onto your feet. “Be brave, I’ll be back.” And then you were reaching out and twisting the door knob, your feet quickly carrying you over the threshold as you slammed the door shut behind you and disappeared into the dark, leaving the two brothers behind, Dean pointing the barrel of your gun at the door.

He was ready. If you could be brave, so could he.

A minute passed, and then another. . . And another. And with each passing second they both grew more worried. They wanted you back here with them. They wanted to know you were safe.

It was around the five minute mark of you being gone that another scream split through the silence, making the hairs on the back of Deans neck stand on end, and Sams grip on his arm tighten.

“Dean, that sounded like-“

“Y/N-“ eyes now blown with fear, Dean partially let go off your rifle, as he bounded towards the door- throwing it open full force. The downpour outside drenching him almost instantly as he raced out onto the front steps, Sam in tow.

“Y/N! Y/N WHERE ARE YOU?!” Panic seeping into the marrow of his bones when he was only met with an empty parking lot.

“Y/N!”

But no answer came. The only sounds now came from the rain as it beat down against the rooftops and pavement, the occasional clap of thunder making both boys flinch.

“Y/N!”

Now I must go alone

Cause I need you there

So my memory of home is full
