Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities issued a statement saying he had a film permit for outside regular hours, they were never closed to the public, and he was accompanied by archeologists from the site during filming as required.

Going by that, it doesn't seem that different from similar arrangements at other preserved sites around the world. Which I guess just means it fits into existing discussions about such arrangements. But for my own sanity, I needed to know about the supervision and public access.

John Mulaney: From Scratch in Las Vegas, September 4

Once again, spoilers for the show and what will presumably be in the special. This is about his relapse so tread with caution is that will be an issue for you. However, the tone of his struggle is the same one he used in his past specials so if you didn’t have any issues then, I think you’d be ok with this. Of course, use your own best judgement, friends.

The opener was Seaton Smith. 

He opened with trying to find the rich people in the crowd but acknowledged that they’d go mwrmwmwrw money isn’t everything so then he started talking about golf and went aha I got ya’ll. 

There was a joke about weed being the only Christian drug

He had a bit about when white people are nice, be nervous

He had a bit about there being a black man on the Bachelor and was like America (ABC and Disney+) were not ready for a black man to be fucking a house full of 50 white women. That shit premiered on Tuesday and the Capitol burned on Wednesday.

He also did some crowd work and roasted a couple in the front row for having different answers about kids and she was like I didn’t hear the question and was roasted about how not hearing questions you don’t want to answer is certainly a tactic, often used by drug dealers

He also had a bit about how different child rearing is in Texas versus New York and about how hitting your kids is treated differently, like his dad would have just threatened it whimsically. 

Now on to the Main Event!

The first thing he said was “hiiiiiiiiii” exactly in the tone you think he said it in. he followed that up with a little shrug looking adorable and a little bashful

“It’s him! Mr. Problems. Oh Las Vegas, Oh my god” he then talks about how Vegas is a land of vice and a Choice for him to preform in as a recovering addict. He had a sober buddy and 3 bodyguards with him at all times. 

“And here’s what happened” December 18, 2020, he gets invited to a friends apartment for dinner AND HE’S TWO HOURS LATE because he stopped, coked out of his mind, at SNL for a haircut because he still had his building access badge and he went to the hair department and they were like, he’ll leave faster if we just do this, and then he stopped at his drug dealers. 

He called venmo and cashapp, apps for drug deals and was like what do normal people even use them for. He maxed both out paying for drugs. 

He was the best looking person at his intervention. “Coke skinny, new cut” and the 12 people intervening looked like shit. He looked “tears for fears while they all looked jerry garcia” (I hope you know who those musicians are besties). 

He immediately yelled “Can I go to the bathroom” to you know, dump his drugs because when you walk into that, you know what it is. 

He was not allowed to go (he would be asked if he still needed to pee later and would say “what?”

There were 6 people in NYC and 6 people over zoom in LA because he guesses 6 people couldn’t be bothered to fly in for HIS INTERVENTION

Interventions can go two ways, it can be kind of accusatory and this is how you let us all down, or it can be supportive. Everyone but Nick Kroll got the memo to be supportive.

Nick Kroll went first.

Nick Kroll listed all the ways John was a bad best friend and brother over zoom and John was getting texts during the intervention saying Nick wasn’t supposed to do that and they were all sorry. 

Bill Hader went next. he originally wasn’t going to be able to make it so he had recorded a thing but since he was there, he did it live. (He would eventually send the video to John in rehab, which is not what you want on the way to rehab “awesome, more intervention”)

He tried to derail the intervention, “there’s not enough latinx representation” he said he’d go to any rehab except the one they had picked out for him. This was a star-studded affair and he was mad no one was being funny.

So he gets carted off to rehab after this intervention. Don’t let 12 comedians pack your bags for 2 months at rehab. it was bombas socks and iphone chargers. 

A little secret about rehab, you’re not allowed to bring drugs in. You remember how he was late? In his pocket on the way to rehab included: a huge amount of pills, 3g of coke (which was 2g by the time he got there, courtesy of a koala station in a gas station bathroom), and $2000 in cash. He had other plans for the weekend. He was admitted for xanax, coke, perocet, and adderall addiction. Say what you will, but he does not do anything half way.

It’s 4am when he’s sent to detox, he’s been awake for 3 days. 

He also gives a small lesson on how to get drugs. Find the lowest rated doctors on yelp and webmd reviews and go ask for them, they need all the business they can get. You become like Captain Phillips, I am the doctor now. 

Dr. Michael was his shady doctor. He was a first avenue apartment where he would write prescriptions from his kitchenette where his girl Minerva was always asleep. “I didn’t kill my wife Minerva.” But John would ask for his drugs, Dr. Michael would write the script and then ask what he needed it for. Dr. Michael would also make John take his shirt off, always offering a flu shot and going no, shirt all the way off (in case you were wondering how bad this addiction actually was)

The first moral is now you know. The second moral is get vaccinated.

He’s sent to the regular ward the next afternoon and they finally get him to sleep. 

He’s sketched out that doctors have last names at this establishment

He asks for drugs such as klonopin and is taken aback a bit when he doesn’t get them. The doctor is like PA state law says no, and so John suggests they go to a CVS in Jersey to get some. 

His bestie Pete Davidson starts calling that night. Except Pete changes his number every month and a half so John has him send a selfie and saves the new number under some other random name, at this point in time, Pete is saved as Al Pacino. (We get an Al Pacino impression) John is asleep and his nurse sees Al Pacino trying to call him 5 times and so she wakes him up. 

Pete Davidson and John Mulaney did not do drugs together. (The author is lowkey surprised and sad about that, like if Pete was my bestie, we’d make so many poor choices) But Pete was always very supportive of his sobriety. 

John needs recognition so badly, in group when they introduced themselves he said “I’m John M.” and no one cared. So he left a tabloid out with the news of his admittance and his face on it in the rec room on the table. The not being someone was “driving him bananas.” When they talked about what they do for a living and he said I’m a a stand up comedian, someone asked if he made a living that way. He said “yeah ask your daughter” (or your son)

One of the things you do at rehab is break up with your drug dealer.

One of his drug dealers only bought drugs to keep John from buying worse off the streets and only got into the game because John kept asking him for drugs and was his only buyer. That guy was originally a painter and John has no idea how they met. John is the only person to turn an innocent man into a drug dealer. 

Here he did the Baby J is back baby joke. the Park Theater is one of the biggest stages in the world so he did that joke in one pace across the stage and said the stage is that joke long. 

“I am no longer on drugs. It’s very good but also ah---” He’s in a 12 step anonymous group. 

“I need attention, clearly.” After a show you think he would be sated, but no. 

He wants that attention that the kid who’s grandparent died and showed up to school dressed for the funeral and got to sit in the beanbag chair for reading despite it not being his turn, gets. He went on about being willing to let one of the lesser important grandparents die so he could get attention, for quite a while. 

He feels left behind in science, like his C’s and D’s in those classes. All those classes were was putting things on a windowsill for the janitor to throw away. He had a bit about how the fuck people put dinosaurs back together, it’s like getting wayfair furniture without the instructions. 

He also things the moon belongs to America. Like we got there first and when other countries say stuff about the moon he’s like mmmmmmm.

He also had a joke about paying to get into college and like, for white people that’s always how it’s been. 

The show ended with him going over the highlights of that GQ interview that he was so coked out for that he forgot he did it entirely. He has no memory of it at all. He was just called up that day and asked for an interview and you know how coke is the best drug to receive attention on? He just did whatever he wanted with that attention. 

And that was the show.

•He said his teeth are mostly straight but he's thought about getting Invisalign. He's never had braces. He has a tiny gap in the left side of his mouth and his canines are longer and sharper (vampire arc). He's never had teeth surgery so has his wisdom teeth still.

•He thinks pineapple on pizza is good.

•He likes seafood like lobster and crab. He had crab made in an air fryer last night. He like peas. He thinks quesadillas are good and likes most food.

•He hates Coffee and most drinks

•The Dream Shorts team is Ken who is his personal reminder (Ken's main job is to spam him with texts so he doesn't forget things as he's got a habit of reading texts and not replying) and also comes up with a list of sets for Dream shorts. The builder is a friend and munchymc builder "his talent gets wasted on Dream's shorts but we pay him so"

•His editors are currently Dizzy, Firesale and Mjcr. Willz doesn't edit for him anymore

•The mask animation isn't done but Mask should be released May 21st. He wants to release them together as "the whole song is a double meaning and the whole nuance will be lost without the animation" but no matter if the animation is done the song is getting released on the 21st.

•He and Sapnap eat together often.

•He and Sapnap prefer medium rare Steak

•He wants a home gym it's something he's willing to splurge on. They currently have a weight rack but they haven't even set it up.

•"Eat the rich? Shut up shut up" - Dream

•Talked about money basically saying "Most people don't understand how money works I don't have millions in my bank account it's in assets like merch, land and warehousing for that stuff" (He's not in his landlord arc)

•He's been debating Pride Merch because of Rainbow Capitalism. He doesn't want it too be seen as a money maker and if he does most proceeds would go to charity. He's currently super busy merch wise with Sapnap joining and George in the middle of joining. He did say "Only if the LGBTQ+ community in this community wants it" He thinks he's going to at least change the merch website to a pride one. Sapnap wants to make pride merch including a rainbow flame on his.

•He wants to create a charity that's centered around helping LGBTQ+ one day because he thinks that there's a lack of them. He mentioned that creating a charity was expensive and took a lot and was a complicated process including a board of directors but he wants to do it someday.

•He wanted to buy a bunch of houses in Florida which was a service to house mostly LGBTQ+ youth and people stuck in abusive households for free to get them out of bad home environments. But he didn't because he didn't want people thinking he was profiting of of abuse victims and LGBTQ+ community.

•He said he's terrible with time management and replying to people which is why Ken helps him (and also helps George and Sapnap). He mentioned how Sam messaged multiple times and Dream just forgot to answer but felt bad "I feel like people think I hate them..... Cause I'd be mad if people did that to me"

•He tries to reply to a few texts a day (community number). He also can't do birthday messages everyday because you can only reply at certain times so it's not abusing the system so if you get one it's special. He said he does try but it's got a weird time gap.

•Him and the manhunt winner are trying to come up with a good time to film

•He wants to stream this MCC on twitch and says his team is good.

•He talks about why he's not partnered with Twitch. Basically Twitch has a lock rate (in which you make money) and you legally can't stream on YouTube. So legally if Tommy wanted to stream on YouTube he couldn't. Someone then mentioned how Bad is a twitch partner but still streams on YouTube "Bad streams on YouTube but he has for a while and I don't think that he cares" - Dream

•He likes to reply to every donation he gets on stream and feels bad when he doesn't so he'll turn them off when he streams and wants a platform deal where he can be payed to stream (not twitch). If he gets a streaming partnership he will stream a couple of times a week. He looked in to Facebook but they don't have an alias system meaning you can see everyone's actual Facebook account and personal info, he doesn't like seeing real names on Facebook so it would require a lot of altering if he was to stream there so he's thinking it's probably going to be YouTube.

•He was asked about if his demographic was what he expected and he said he went in with no expectations, he didn't even know what stans were, wasn't really on social media so he wasn't aware of the fan culture. "You guys are a handful sometimes but it's worth it"

•He also mentioned how he and the DreamSMP changed the twitch audience demographic. It used to be male dominated in both streamers and audience and now it's almost split which is unheard on.

•He has 5 fidget spinners in his house. Two in his bedroom. Two in his office. One in the living room.

•He likes his Minecraft skin as he thinks the arm is cook and you never see the rest of his skin really. He says it's unique and different and "me". Dream: You can't even tell half the skins apart on MC.

•He's not lost the motivation to stream. Most of the times if he wants to stream he gets George or Sapnap to do it and he just turns up. It's more beneficial to them as they have donos and subs on. (Don't we fucking know it "can you say hi to")

•He has listened to Lovejoy. Says the ep was great and they're very talented and awesome. Doesn't know what his favourite song is but probably would pick One Day because the chorus slaps.

•RIP to acoustic Roadtrip. He said instead of acoustic Roadtrip we get Mask so no losses today for Dream stans.

•"With Roadtrip I went to Parker and I said Hey I have a story I want to tell through music. I have no experience with that can you help me" He said sure. He crafted the music and melodies and how things are formed where it's catchy. I have less comfort singing that. I love the song and it's my song, it's very representative of me and I'm sure I could sing it but it's a song I'd be kinds of scared to sing live, with Mask I basically did everything. I sat there the entire time and maybe an hour out if the 100 I wasn't in the call. Dream came up with the lyrics and main melody for Mask (First one he's ever come up with) "That was just notes in my fucking voice memos"

•The clip we heard of Mask was a prechorus not the actual chorus. He thinks he'd be more comfortable to do a mask acoustic and it's more melodic than Roadtrip. The chorus also has a lot of instruments similar to Roadtrip. Mask starts of slow and guitar with minimal reverb and is more raw.

• He doesn't want music to be his main thing. It's something fun to do and he's passionate about it as it's a way to express emotions. He wants to release mask then go from there. He wants to release at least one more song but has nothing on his mind currently. His two ideas were Roadtrip and Mask.

•He wouldn't quit his job to become a pizza delivery man.

•His favourite features on himself are eyes or freckles and he also confirmed that he does have eyebrows.

•He was told that Parkour warrior would be bought back some time in the near future and he got excited for it. "Even if I don't win, which I will, it'll be fun"

•Went on about his MCC team but I'm not going to put that in as we should be getting them today. He did say he wasn't on Pink but he did sound confused. (For reference he's always in Pink as it's the last team announced and keeps the hype up by announcing the biggest streamer last)

•Said he and his mum had the Mr Beast burger. He recommends because he likes the avacado. He mentioned how Mr Beast uses "Ghost Kitchens" which is basically where he gives restaurants permission to cook his food so it's restaurant quality food.

•His favourite piece of merch is the circle smile. (The pool photo on Instagram). He said the quality was bad (he worked with a different company and didn't have his own company) and it was elasticy feeling and he's planning on re-releasing it again but with good quality.

•He's started to send merch out in custom packaging. So his bags have the smile and will mostly be green. Sapnap's has the flame and is either black or white. He's also trying to make it so every order has the sticker packs for both him and Sapnap.

•He loves the coins as it's cheaper than a hoodie but still celebrates the milestones and will last a long time. He mentioned how the old coins are getting removed off the site and how if you have any of the coins your special because only a few thousand get made. He's kept around 100 of each coin that he wants to give away in person.

•He wanted to have a cool store where you could access computers that give you access to the DreamSMP in spectator mode. But it's too costly and would require too much time and isn't safe fight now. He doesn't think it'd be worth it financially.

•Most of the hoodie are black instead of multiple colours because of limited supply and covid. Getting the colours are harder because if the pandemic which hopefully won't be an issue soon.

•He wants to do a short meetup tour with Sapnap and George with a few locations in the US (and if others nearby want to join like Quackity or Karl they can). He also wants to visit Australia, UK, Canada, Mexico and Philippines and do something like that there but definitely at least visit with George and Sapnap.

•He's never been to the Philippines but his mum has. He wants to set up a place in the Philippines where he can ship merch in bulk and it would help to reduce shipping. However it would probably be big milestone merch.

•He's not got the vaccine yet but will get it when he needs to. He doesn't leave the house so he doesn't see the point.

•He's the ideas man. George's footcam video was Dream's idea. The T-shirt video was Dream's idea. Most if not all of the Dream Team's videos are Dream's ideas.

•Said he's got a similar/the same hair colour as Froy (Dream buddy at this point the only difference between you and Froy is that one of you is dating Richard Madden /lh)

Algernon - Day 7

(Note: I’m bullshitting my way through the computer and cyborg stuff and no one can stop me!)

           A too-bright override command smacked him in the face and he swatted it away. Whoever this guy was he wasn't an amateur, but Jet was a human mind and couldn't just be hacked into, and with the loss of…everything else Jet could focus wholly on his defenses. But for how long? To what end?

           There was a "back door" that would override the human component and give access to the cybernetic brain, an emergency port that Black Ghost had used liberally once he learned how to control his cybernetics. Gilmore sealed it up long ago, but it was standard for Black Ghost models and Jet really hoped this guy wasn't familiar with them.

           It wouldn't come to that. Transmitter or not, the team wouldn't give up looking for him. He just had to hold on for a bit, they'd find him somehow. If they were alive.

           Stop that. They were fine, they always won, they'd already sacrificed…

           Oh god, Albert…

           Sorrow turned to rage and Jet flung open the door and reached out into the invading computer. Programming and computers really wasn't his thing, but he knew how to just instinctively react towards them and let the cybernetic secondary brain translate whatever he did into something viable. He grabbed hold of the foreign computer, twisted, and then yanked.

           The man jumped as his computer crashed and Jet felt satisfaction at his dumbfounded stare. The screen turned back on, black save green text.

           _I SAID F U C K O F F_

           Jet's triumph was short lived as the dumbfounded expression turned to elation.

           "It defended itself. It attacked my system in defense! This AI is incredible!"

           Wait, what? AI?

           Hardly stymied, Jet's new personal nemesis promptly began to get his computer back up and running. He unplugged Jet after the first attempt when Jet tried to trash the BIOS.

           Jet wanted to scream. The motions occurred as his eyes narrowed and his mouth twisted and opened, but no sound came out. The man glanced up, not at all threatened, then merely reached out and shut his mouth.

           "Glitchy thing…" he muttered.

           Damnit, I'm not glitchy, you idiot! I'm a human being!

           His computer back online hours later, the stranger called it a day and left, shutting off lights in his wake and leaving Jet alone in the dark. It sounded like the man walked up wooden stairs behind him, like he was in a basement, but Jet couldn't turn to look. There was something highly disconcerting about being unable to turn one's head. Amazing what Jet took for granted sometimes.

           With this reprieve he tried to get some semblance of order in his systems. He ran diagnostics; they failed. He tried overriding primary systems with secondary ones or obsolete programs that Gilmore hadn't bothered to remove during upgrades. The chronometer was malfunctioning; he had no way to keep track of time. He finally had to accept his bodiless state and performed a full disconnect, usually reserved for lost limbs in combat that he could keep functioning without being assaulted with errors and mistranslated pain. The cybernetics calmed considerably but the panic in his mind only doubled as he was left with a sense of nothing and he worried about shock.

           Either way, he must have blacked out because he startled awake at the sound of a door closing and footsteps descending.

           So it began again. Jet shut the door and slumped against it while the pounding continued, stray commands leaking through and whipping him across the face.

           He needed to do something. Maybe he was going about this wrong. So long as this man got nothing he would keep trying for everything. Maybe Jet should throw him a bone and let him play with that, maintaining control of the information given. Maybe get some of his own in turn.

           At least until the others showed up and Joe kicked this guy's ass through the wall.

           He opened the door a crack.

           "I'm in!" the man crowed.

           Oh my god, who actually says that?

           _WHERE AM I_

           "Not now," the man grumbled and kept typing, ignoring Jet's request. He was too fascinated with the minor feed Jet was allowing him, continuing to talk to no one.

           "I need to get past the AI right now. I knew it was damaged when I bought it but this is…It's glitchy as all hell look at this data it's a mess."

           Those aren't glitches, you moron, that's me. Haven't you ever seen a neuro-cybernetic crossfeed before?

           _WHO ARE YOU_

           "What, I need credentials now?"

           _YES_

           That brought his assailant up short and the man stared at Jet long and hard.

           "It can hear me."

           _I CAN HEAR YOU YES__WHO ARE YOU_

           "Can you understand me?"

           _I SAID YES ARE YOU LACKING BRAINCELLS_

           "Oh my god," the man breathed in delight, "Best robot head ever!"

           _IM HUMAN_

           "Of course you are. Shit, shit! I can't wait to reverse engineer this!"

           _NO_

           "Sorry, gotta find out how you work. Don't worry I'll put you back together."

           _NOT A ROBOT_

           "Somebody was watching too much Star Trek when they made you, huh?" and then he went back to Jet's data.

           I'm older than Star Trek, Jet started to send but was cut off by an identification request command. Damnit. If he got hold of Jet's ID codes he'd never get his defense 'door' fully shut again. Fortunately this man was accustomed to robots and was sending the wrong request format. It was a Black Ghost code though, so Jet couldn't help but begin to worry.

           He might have to force a shutdown if his systems were breached. Hell, he could technically do a minor self-destruct and destroy the cybernetic brain, though without the emergency oxygen and power flow modules at the base of his skull running he wouldn't live more than a few minutes.

           Those were starting to get a bit low now anyway. They were designed to only keep the brain alive if all else failed; he wasn't supposed to be conscious while they were in use. He was burning through them too fast. He had maybe a few days at most.

           Another request command slapped him in the face and he batted it away.

           His assailant frowned then sat back, arms crossed in thought. "This is a Black Ghost core system, but I haven't seen much of their stuff on the market lately and yet you've got some pretty recent hardware upgrades from a third party. So let's see…" He reached out and grabbed some of the vertebrae hanging naked from Jet's neck. "There should be a serial number here somewhere."

           He went back to his computer and started something else, Jet couldn't tell what without opening his door further and if he was honest with himself he was getting frightened. This man was familiar with Black Ghost tech.

           Just hang on until the team finds you. Go back into lockdown.

           Jet tried to shut the door when a stream of gold light shot through the gap and held it fast: the correct identification request. Jet was overridden and his cybernetic codes rushed out the door like an overexcited dog he couldn't grab.

           "There we go, just had to get the right series."

           _STOP IT_

           "Got'cha now, my little robot head."

           The man frowned and then shrugged.

           Override: primary neuro component            Accessing…

           No! Jet screamed as a tearing sensation ripped through him. He was being cut off. No, no, no! He pulled from his mind the image of an axe and slammed it down onto the stream of gold light, snapping it and throwing him back against the door that slammed shut. It hurt, it hurt so fucking much.

           Access overridden: entry denied: please enter passcode and lick my balls

           "What the hell!" the man snapped, and continued to put in Jet's access codes that pounded against Jet's defenses

           You get nothing! Jet seethed, and held the door fast.

           Please pass out please pass out please pass out god please…

           The drill whined and Jet's eyes rolled back into his head.

           His assailant was familiar with Black Ghost tech, enough to find out where the back door emergency port was. He'd grown tired of Jet's rolling passcodes and emergency shutdowns and was going straight for the source, drilling into the roof of Jet's mouth. He wasn't an amateur, but he didn't have the specialized tools Black Ghost or Gilmore had and was making do with what he did. A hole saw that didn't fit into Jet's mouth well enough to reach the back, so he leveraged it against Jet's upper mouth and snapped the handle down, dislocating Jet's jaw completely. Jet had blacked out briefly from that but he wasn't so lucky for the drill.

           Again it whined, wet and loud, and pain and terrible vibrations tore through him. Liquid flew out of his mouth, white and red, and splattered onto the man's gloved hands. The drill stopped and he stared at the fluid.

           The cybernetic fluid that made up most of the 00 cyborgs was a milky white, thick and nutrient rich, but some human blood remained. When injured they tended to bleed pink, but this close to his brain separate veins carried only blood and it beaded the man's gloves. He stared at it.

           "What the hell…" he breathed, incredulous, and touched some of the blood.  "Oh no, oh come on!" he yelled, forcing Jet's mouth open and peering into the damage he'd made. With a frustrated cry he slammed Jet's head back onto the desk.

           Ow…

           "It's a fucking cyborg!"
