i bet Bruce recalls Dick's childhood super fondly and does not at all remember that his kid would try to stab him with a pencil if Bruce tried to "help" with math homework a little too diligently

recent realization has been just how much of rgu is based on soviet art. we all know by now how ohtori's warping architecture is inspired by constructivism
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but apart from that, the thing that makes rgu's cinematography special—it's usage of esoteric images to create visual new meanings + it's repeated shots of lined up objects—is so clearly Eisenstein
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
rgu directly utilizes Eisenstein's theory of montage—and it's my favorite usage of it too. it feels like the technique was created ex professo for rgu's cinematography. i could think of no better use for it. that girl sure is revolutionary.

Wait... Okay about a month back @katakaluptastrophy made this reply on another post (the reply is just the relevant part here) and it's been on loop in my brain because it's so absolutely right—

But also, in addition to that still being accurate...
Did you guys know the word māori when not a proper noun is...

T a m s y n . . . ?
The water thing too. And the contrast of mortal humans from spiritual beings...
Everything really is 30 layers deep in symbolism at all times huh.

*In the voice of someone who's only media experience is jjba*: Wow, getting a lot of jjba vibes from tf2
Amidst the chaos and disappointments that encompassed my last two months, I had a fun connection about two of my favorite brain rot comics - you got an immortal(ish) with a harsh backstory who spirals into obsessive hatred that ends in the stealing of their obsession's bodies and subsequently haunt those family lines and those adjacent to them for generations - and I liken the Zeppelis, who shares the Joestar's generational curse by Dio/immortal creatures in general, to the Conaghers who I also see as helpers to the Mann line Its a really cool angle to look at Engie in, who since I was 14 was my least favorite character lol, this really elevated him for me
And so if the Manns are like the Joestars, that means like, Olivia Man is the equivalent of Joseph lol which is very funny to me

i just read about the "narcissism of small differences," aka the idea that the more a community has in common, the more likely the people in it are to engage in interpersonal feuds and mutual ridicule because of hypersensitivity to minor differences perceived in each other, and i knew there was a reason my time in academia and fandom felt oddly similar lmao

So if Perceptor is an evil dad in evil Shockdad au, then is he a good dad in evil Bumbleson au?
Tumblr media
The opposite doesn't mean good in this case. Perceptor's self-lobotomy instead of removing his emotions and personality instead made it so his emotional state overrode his logical thinking. Shockwave as a sparkling was forced to take care of him in between the shifts were Perceptor was deprived of all emotional stimulants in order to get him to continue his work. Their relationship was technically 'closer' but it was arguably a lot more toxic.
Shockwave was assigned to Perceptor to 'fix' his processor. Thinking if Shockwave gained his knowledge he'd be able to reverse the damage done. He couldn't. When the handle fell off his final orders as Perceptor's charge was to wipe his existance from Perceptor's memory banks.

in the least “I want to argue” way I find it realllyyy funny how people refuse to acknowledge that langdon was definitely santos on his first day of work.
there is no way you can tell me frank langdon, the guy who calls garcia edwina scissorhands, the guy who cherry picks his cases, the guy who said “dana can come back though can’t she?” after hearing she got punched in the face, the guy who guy who couldn’t sit still for a moment of silence despite probably having to do it on a regular basis, who isn’t that Great on his bedside manners, the guy who is extremely confident and maybe even cocky in his abilities…THAT guy wasn’t absolutely hated on his first day as an intern.
like let’s be honest. One of the main differences between santos and langdon is that langdon has seniority. he’s been there for like what 4 years? he knows the ed staff. they’ve accepted his assholery as apart of him and know when to humble/shame him. they’ve stopped gaf abt his sarcasm like ages ago because it’s just turned into banter now. they definitely do side eye him (especially for that Dana comment) and he is still regarded as somewhat of a jerk. but dude is great at what he does and has been there so long that it’s almost like it’s just a side effect of who he is lol.
they’re used to him now but trust on that first day? I just know they were annoyed asfk
he’s also extremely confident and does risky shit if it means he can save a patient. if you told me he did some risky procedure he had no business doing as an intern I would believe you.
But I guarantee you, give santos those 4 years and everyone would most likely regard her the same. a lot of people fail to understand that this is One day. Literally one day. She doesn’t know these people nor do they know her. She’s made a bad impression but I believe by the end of the rotations or something long the lines of that she’ll have made friends with Javadi, Whittaker and Mel. Or at least one of them lol. Under all the meanness and ambition santos is really empathetic and trying. they all just have to get to know each other and apologies should be in place but it’s not like any one of them hate each other. They’ll side eye her and call her a douche when she acts like one but that’s called friendship baby! oh and mark my words those nicknames will eventually turn from derogatory to affectionate trust (plz pitt writers)

John, Ava, and Yelena escape the vault. They've all done terrible things, they're weighed down by their pasts, they're morally gray, and they have to hike around in the desert in search of freedom.
John Walker (dare I say the generally most disliked character in the movie at first release??) finds something to eat, and shares it with the group. It's important that it's him because it starts uniting them. They didn't bring the food, it was provided by the earth, the universe, whatever.
That scene is important as a transition from survival mode to character mode, as it gives everyone a chance to relax for a bit.
But it also resonates in the same way the story of Exodus does. With the wandering the desert to atone for their sins. With depending on food provided, not food prepared. With making things right along the way, being the best version of yourself.
I vocally hated on the desert/fruit scene at first, but I do see value in feeding people you love. The scene represents personal growth, moving on from things you regret, and using tough situations to start over.
