I love this guy a lot! even if he has some really questionable advice. I ended up dumping a lot of points into him in my first playthrough!

really simple drawings today, I've had a pretty bad headache all day. which you'd think would allow me to channel the pain threshold vibe better! but it really didn't. sadly the amount of love I hold for a skill doesn't necessarily correlate with how much effort I can put into drawing them (with a few exceptions lol). the one on the right was an old sketch I coloured... it was a relief I already had a halfway decent design for him haha

pain threshold is quite something. there are lots of instances of him telling you something painful feels good, or encourages you to do something that will hurt (both physically and emotionally). he also leads the finger on the eject button thought dialogue. My first playthrough I had FYS of 4 and I ended up dumping a ton of points in to PT cause I was fascinated by him. But I also had mega high volition cause I adored him too. they definitely did not have the same goals...

the first time I remember hearing from my personal PT, we were bowling and my wrist was really starting to hurt. and he was like, you should keep playing. thanks bro :/

Gender and sexuality and how they can change over time can be such a funny thing so I had one friend as a kid who at the time had just came out as lesbian (tho now I think they may be transmasc of some sort ot another but I’m not 100% sure so I’m just using they/them) and I was at the time sorta trying to very awkwardly perform straight male identity^tm and like faking stuff I just wasn’t really actually experiencing to feel normal but I was also like not an asshole about gay people. So anywyas they had said soemthing when where hanging out at Barnes & noble and we where looking through calendars and there was one with some scantily clad women on it and this friend was Liek “oh I like that one…don’t judge I have needs you know!!!” And I to both try to I guess show support and also do the middle school performance of “yeah I’m totally doing the normal teenage boy things” was like “nah I get you it’s rhe same here ” even tho it WASN’T at the time like that at all a thing I was actually personally experiencing. Which feels also like an odd story cause now I DO have my own experiences of attraction and aesthic appreciation of women (albeit still probably not quite the same way due to the idiosyncrasies of my aspec stuff) that I could probably connect with more authentically.

I kinda wonder what happened to this person they where pretty cool and talked about like marvel stuff with me in elementary/early middle school we kinda lost contact and I don’t really have a way of getting back in touch r but I wish I did I kinda just in general have fond memories of hanging out as kids and kinda wonder how we might be able to relate now espically if them being trans in some way like I vaugely heard is true…

Heh this was just gonna be a funny story about childhood that’s even funnier with how the people involved’s identity’s changed over time but I I geninuely miss my old friend now….

I Remeber they were into My Chemical Romance and knew all about Umbrella Academy WAY before the Netflix show….they liked the teen titans cartoon and identified with Raven at the time (tho there’s a strong possibility this part may have changed) I hung out at their house and we watched like the 2000s X Men and Elektra movies and also scary movie I’m pretty sure, before they came out as lesbian out parents would tease us about “liking each other” but we where really just friends and it was just needlessly awkward.

At that bookstore some weirdo evangelicals tried to prostiyze to us and I was trying to comfort them after the fact and we ended up laughing at the whole concept.

We had a pretty cool music teacher we both liked allot in our small private K-8 cause liked all the DC Marvel stuff like we did (and in their case I think they knew more about like actual music stuff too lol)

so during the reader and reiner interaction in both the beginning and before the end, bertolt was actually outside his house the entire time LMFAO he was looking in the window and saw reiner lean into the reader, bro's delusional mind saw it as a kiss and went a little bonkers about it. in the afternoon the day after this talk (aka the day where reader comes home and sees him jorkin it on her bed), bertolt got invited into reiner's house and they started talking about it. reiner wasn't in the office bc he really was supposed to prepare for another fight, so was bert but he was more or less preparing to confront reiner.

i think that although reiner partially was pushing the reader to be with bert since he was trying to be a wingman for his bestie, he didn't want her to get hurt by him since he also cares about her since they've known each other since the scout days. also i think he's just a little bit more sane than bertolt so they argue, he's telling him he's going too far and that reader is getting creeped out by him, that she might leave the unit bc of his behavior (which ngl, kinda funny for him to be saying all that when in my other stories, reiner's the crazy one). bertolt refutes that he's just making sure she's safe, just a whole bunch of excuses for being a creep and why it's not his fault that she's the one that's taking it the wrong way.

then reiner brings up the fact that he's been breaking in and taking her stuff, specifically her undergarments, and that he's lucky that he hasn't said anything about it to the reader because he still wants to protect bert. bertolt mentions that he's doing an awful job of that since he's the one that just kissed her in front of him and putting these ideas in her head. reiner's like bro tf???? no i didn't???? maybe i do have to report you to magath jfc what's wrong with you? and that just makes him snap cause ain't no way he's gonna be separated from you for another long period of time again so they start brawling.

shit gets real crazy like they're clawing at each other, biting, anything to be the winner of this fight even if it has them ripping each other limb from limb. surprisingly, they're still sane enough to not transform despite the many chances for them to do so. i think once bertolt managed to rip reiner's abdomen open, it was obvious who the winner was so the two of them finally come to a stop. the major injuries on reiner knock him tf OUT like, he's gonna be out of commission for a good month.

bertolt is just sitting there, almost completely frozen as he stared at his friend's near-corpse, drenched completely in the mix of their blood and steam, and literally so aroused; the pain he's feeling, the blood that was clinging onto his skin and in his mouth, and all the adrenaline that was pumping through his veins. i think if it went any further, he might've came on the spot 😭😭 SO LITERALLY RIGHT AFTER THIS, HE'S WALKING TO READER'S HOME IN COMPLETE FILTH AND GENUINELY EVEN HE DOESN'T KNOW HOW HE WASN'T STOPPED LMFAO he actually was going to wait for her to come home to show this surprise, but then he saw her dirty laundry and lost complete control of himself and yk the rest LOL

I was tagged by @sorry-bonebag and @bengiyo (thank you both!). It's funny to see so many folks talk about not having 10, when I had trouble narrowing it down ���� So, here are shows I've reached for for comfort recently, in no particular order:

Until We Meet Again. Listen, I get that it's depressing, but it also ends and mends the intergenerational trauma set up in the first 15 minutes, and in the Dean/Pharm storyline the show queues up typical drama problems just for everything to be fine, it is SO comforting. And if I need to cry, ep1 part 1 will get me there, guaranteed.

Azumanga Daioh. This show...is so weird lol. It's a 20-year-old anime at an all-girls high school. There is a 10-year-old prodigy, a weirdo transfer student, a butch beauty, a simp, a loud class clown...it's not exactly GL because the girl who has a massive crush on her classmate never does anything about it and that's not really the plot. There is no actual plot, it's extremely slice-of-life except when it ventures into absurdity. It's extremely quiet and chill for this reason. The stakes are so low!

Star Trek: The Original Series. Like Ben, I am a Star Trek fan forever. TOS is my favourite and I've rewatched... a lot. Rather than the stakes being low, they're high but everyone is exceptionally competent and can solve impossible situations. And I really, deeply love the problem-of-the-week style storytelling and found family vibes.

What Did You Eat Yesterday? Everyone already knows this one, it's so good. Their relationship is so wonderful and the food is delicious and inspiring. In this show, things aren't perfect and that's ok, and I get deep comfort out of that.

HIStory 2: Crossing the Line. I love a sports anime, and this hits the key notes: you have to have love for the game and play with integrity and with your team in mind, and never give up on your dream. And this installation was pretty short, so easy to binge.

Our Dating Sim. This is recent but I've already decided to go back and rewatch this rather than start something new at least twice, so I'm counting it. Something about how these two settle into the friends to lovers dynamic is just delightful their familiarity and ease transfers to me through the screen.

Ingredients the series. Everyone calls this our pandemic comfort commercial for a reason. I have rewatched it a LOT. It is incredibly domestic and very chill, and once again full of good food. It helps that the episodes are so short so again, it's an easy binge.

Avatar: The Last Airbender (series). Another one that lands on multiple people's lists. This show is incredible and has such good character arcs. I will never get over how perfect the change in Zuko was handled. This one is partially comforting because of how long it's been in my life and how many times I've watched it, but also the found family vibes and the problem of the week format once again is very comforting to me.

Love Sick. I know. But it is the first BL I saw, and it stuck with me. I usually skip around the BL cut when I go back to this (which I still do). Pun and Noh spend a lot of time together in silence or with the OSTs playing, and do a lot of talking in body language and eye contact. Even though they're young and awkward and things are unresolved for so long, when they're together just the two of them this show (and their relationship) is easy and comforting.

60s Batman. There are several sitcoms that I would watch an episode or two if it's on (Frasier, the Nanny, Third Rock from the Sun, Golden Girls, Schitt's Creek), but the Adam West Batman is just... incredible. It is so silly. It is so earnest. It was ahead of its time. And once again, that problem of the week storytelling with incredibly competent characters is deeply comforting to me.

Cracked open a cold ginger lemon. The fandom isn’t like imploding like too much. I exaggerate a little and indulge in a little bit of creative license. It’s only imploding a little bit Context required: There are two (major) portions of the fandom. There’s the tumblr community portion and the reddit community portion. Both portions of the fandoms don’t really like each other. The owner of the reddit sub is like a weirdo and also thinks they are a badass. I will not comment on either of those descriptions of her. My opinion is not important to this story but that’s just something you need to know. In the reddit sub, there’s also a weekly post full of user submissions (nicknamed ss). The tumblr portion of the fandom hates this for two reasons 1. The owner of the sub cannot decide if they only want it to be serious and taken seriously or just for entertainment and none of it is verified. 2. The owner puts in some really defamatory stuff. Tumblr users send joke submissions in ss but it’s not as much of a thing anymore. There was a joke a while back about three people who are not on good terms becoming polyamorous lovers who make out. It was obviously a joke but was still being put in ss and taken seriously. Lol. There’s also someone who reuploads the whole thing with zero edits to tumblr. Today they (+ an anon or two added their thoughts to this) decided not to post it publicly because it was so bad and just icky. I believe it was spread to trusted blogs through dms though. Not 100% sure on that last part. Theres currently a huge fandom event (might even the biggest event) that happens once a year. Huge competition and last year the fandom imploded over the winners (negatively). So everyone is super active at this time of year but also a bit distracted with it. There’s also snitches in the tumblr fandom that sends screenshots to the owner of the reddit sub. What happened: A user jokingly submitted an anon to one of the biggest blogs in the tumblr fandom who’s blog is basically just an anon chatroom at this point. They get a lot of anons. Earlier in the year they hit the post limit because of the anons they get. The user submitted an anon about becoming a mod of the sub (as a joke). An ex mod of the sub spilled some tea about the sub and what it was like being a mod. Apparently one of the things they experienced was being removed as mod from the sub with no warning. Also how they used to have to search reddit usernames on tumblr to make sure tumblr users didn’t get into the sub (not effective tactic btw, there’s so many tumblr users on the sub). Someone from tumblr sent this to the owner of the sub and clearly something happened there (that I may or may not know more about. Some things stay secret 🤫). There’s a huge post blaming the ex mods, the tumblr community and a bunch more stuff. Basically justifying everything they did and complaining about the tumblr community hating them. A lot of people are joking about this and making fun of the sub owner. Also one of the snitches revealed themselves and said the snitch just because they find the drama funny. I’m not too invested aside from causing parts of this while I’m drunk. I definitely don’t agree with major parts of this drama but it’s really funny to read as a fandom member. Also like all the posts are public to read so people who are snitching aren’t really posting anything private lol There’s a lot more to it but I think I’m getting close to anon limit and also sorry if there’s mistakes, I’m not rereading this.

Riddle didn't mind your quiet and more introverted personality. In fact, he was a bit glad.

He was typically surrounded by a bunch of rambunctious students who always seemed to struggle following even the most basic of the Queen's rules. So, to have a guy like you, who was not only quiet but also seemed to follow the Queen's rules with ease, was a nice change. You also had good grades and never really slacked on your work which seems to be quite a rare trait at NRC.

Because of your overall good behavior, Riddle never really payed that much attention to you. But that means that to Riddle, you were quite mysterious and the fact that you were frequently hanging out with Ace and Deuce only made him more curious of you.

Ace was a well known troublemaker. Deuce while he was trying his best typically found himself in stupid situations. Grim, your close companion, needs no description and then there was you. You were a well behaved and good student who could do no wrong in Riddle's eyes.

What were you doing with them? Why were you hanging out with them? Surely you wouldn't want to hang out with those troublemakers when you could stay with Riddle.

Riddle would interact with you more and more. His obsession over you grew stronger and he didn't even realize it. All he knew was that he wanted to be with you so badly. Perhaps that is love?

As time went on and you two grew closer, Riddle's feelings for you would start to overwhelm him. It felt like he was suffocating. His heart ached and fists clenched tightly whenever he saw you hanging out with others. He knew he had no right to try to take away your friends from you, but there must be something he could do so that you focused more on him at least, right?

You'd think that being quiet and distant would make Floyd think you're boring or something, but unfortunately for you that wasn't the case.

Floyd loved to torment you. He liked to suddenly appear out of nowhere and he would lean on top of you claiming he was "tired". He loved it whenever you made those surprised noises of yours. He thought it was funny and cute.

He would constantly try to get different reactions out of you. Whether by scaring you, annoying you, or otherwise. He loved it all. It was all so funny to him.

He also would often drag you around to do "fun" things with him. Mostly it consisted of bothering people, playing basketball, spontaneous dancing, and whatever else Floyd suddenly felt like doing. It wasn't uncommon for him to grab and drag you off to random places or to do things with him then suddenly, just leave you there after saying he was bored. What a weirdo...

Floyd honestly was quite grateful for you're more introverted nature. It made it far easier to get you away from those three pesky "friends" of yours. That way you would only hang out with him!

Over time, his obsession for you grew.

Honestly, it didn't take that long for his obsession to start making him feel like he was going crazy. He started threatening to squeeze anyone you talked to. He also started complaining a lot more whenever your attention wasn't on him.

He soon begins to get annoyed at the fact that people other than him are looking at you. He genuinely believes that their trying to steal you from him. He may even start to believe that in a way you're cheating on him with those other boys. Even though you're not together... Those thoughts of you getting taken from him send him spiraling and that's what shoves him over the edge.

Now he's hunting for you. Hopefully if you're lucky you'll get away fast enough. But remember, the longer you try to hide from him the angrier he'll get, have fun!

Though it was a bit bothersome to be frequently invited to places with Kalim, it was pretty hard to resist him whenever he asked you to come hang out with him. He would give you those big puppy dog eyes and a bright smile that was simply too hard to resist.

It wouldn't be too long till you'd start to see the signs that maybe this "friendship" you had with Kalim was not quite what it seemed.

the first day you met mike wheeler, you flipped.

there was a feeling of inexplicable excitement and thrill rushing through your body. the sense of familiarity hitting you, you felt comfortable when looking at him as if he’d been your friend for years yet he was just a new face. he was just there, close to you, carrying boxes full of clothes and furniture.

your mom standing beside you and telling you about the flowers in your front yard became less interesting. you stopped responding, stopped moving, stopped breathing. he looked up and saw you staring. you felt your knees give out and nearly fell, holding yourself up against your mother. he looked away and got back to his box carrying, but before he could turn around you caught his glance.

it was those eyes, something in those dazzling eyes.

when school begun, you were over the moon to see him again walking through the classroom door with a few notebooks in hand. you had to tie yourself down so you didn’t tackle him right then and there. he introduced himself as mike wheeler and was seated right in front of you.

there couldn’t possibly be a clearer answer from the universe. he was so shy and so cute and his hair, it smelled like watermelon but every other wednesday, strawberry. you sat patiently everyday in your seat for him to arrive with his new button down shirt or whatever jcrew shirt his mom bought him and the same old sneakers. no matter how hard he would try to avoid it, the first thing he would see was you. your eyes perfectly matching his.

the first day i met y/n y/l/n, i didn’t care.

i helped my dad carry out the last boxes into the house from the moving truck as i heard women talking from the lawn next door. i never wanted to move to stupid indiana but it wasn’t up for discussion. i looked over to see our new neighbors and saw a girl and supposedly her mom. i didn’t acknowledge her, she looked like all the other girls he saw on the car ride to the neighborhood. she looked startled, maybe even a little scared so i looked away and got back to my job.

on the first day of school i was nervous. staring at the small pink slip from the office, my confidence sunk. being the new kid again? it sucks. the numbers on the slip read ‘13’ which was my new classroom number. the first two weeks i’ve been here and i’ve yet to make any friends meanwhile nancy already seems happy with the arrangement and hollys settled at home. why was i the only one the universe hated?

i knocked on the wooden door and waited for it to be opened by an old lady or man who would only give me a ton of homework everyday and to be faced him a bunch of kids who were gonna make my life a living hell. fortunately i got both of them wrong. the woman who answered the door was kind enough to introduce me to the class and give me a seat.

then i saw her. the girl from the next door lawn who was scared of me the moment i looked her way. she’s such a weirdo. what type of person just stared at someone for like a whole ten minutes and doesn’t even blink! she must be some type of robot. i sat down and the lesson began but i paid no attention to what the teacher was saying.

everyday, i’d enter the class late because my mom would drop off nancy first and then me. luckily i rushed to my seat quick enough for the teacher never to call me out for being late. but i would see her everyday in the morning. she was the first one i’d see with either her braids, ponytail, curls, or straight hair. she was always the first thing i would see.

her eyes looking into mine.

each week you were tasked to give a carton of eggs to the wheelers house and you were more than happy to do it. you would grab the carton before your mom could even ask you and dash out of the front door to his house. before knocking on the door or ringing the doorbell, you checked your hair in the window’s reflection beside the front door and calmed yourself. you knew you would be a mess the moment mike wheeler would open the door.

unfortunately every week it was a gamble. sometimes it’ll be nancy, mike’s sister or mikes mom, mrs. wheeler. occasionally it was even holly or mike’s dad. but the certain days that you heard mrs. wheeler yelling for mike to get the door, a smile was plastered across your face. you held onto the eggs tight and waited for him to open the door. although he never looked excited or happy to do so, you had enough excitement for the both of you to share.

this was the first time you’d ever approached mike’s house by yourself and if you were honest, you were nervous. “hey mike! um these are some eggs from our own chickens!” you happily handed the carton to mike. god why did you sound like a girl scout. “oh uh thanks i guess,” he responded and quickly shut the door.

soon the egg exchange became a weekly ritual and he started to open the door immediately, like he was expecting you to arrive which meant he actually acknowledged your presence. although you never got anything in return from him, being met with those dazzling eyes on every hot friday afternoon was good enough. sometimes you were at a loss for words when he opened the door and stare straight into your eyes. he made you feel like the most important girl in the whole world.

he made you feel loved by just a look.

“mike! get the door!” nancy was yelling from upstairs and got back to her conversation on the phone with probably steve or barb. with mom and dad out of the house and holly in the living room, it became my responsibility to get the door apparently?! i wrote my last sentence and rushed down the stairs to get the front door.

i assumed it was just some stupid girl scout or the newspaper guy but when i opened the door, i was met with her. the girl from the moving day and the girl in my class. i never really paid attention to her so i didn’t even know her name but she knew mine as she gave me a carton of eggs, “hey mike! um these are some eggs from our own chickens!”

i couldn’t even decline as she almost throw the box to me. i looked down at the brownish eggs all aligned in a work out cardboard carton. i was confused, why did she give me—eggs? i felt kinda bad not giving anything in return but i couldn’t think of anything from the top of my head so i just thanked her and closed the door.

approaching the kitchen, i set down the eggs on the counter and looked at them for a second. she had chickens? that’s weird especially as what—a pet? i just placed them inside the fridge and ran upstairs again to finish my homework.

later that day, during dinner we had meatloaf and an egg salad. i wondered if these were eggs from earlier today or ones that mom had bought from days ago. ���by the way, the neighbor brought us eggs and they said they were homegrown or something,” i stabbed my meatloaf with my fork and mentioned the earlier events.

my mom seemed confused, “where’d you put them? i didn’t even get to see them?” “i put them in the fridge, like the second row,” i replied and drank my water. “oh those? the brown ones? i threw those away, we only buy the white ones and have you seen the neighbor’s yard?! if they have chickens in that yard and give us those eggs, we’d get salmonella for sure!” my dad brought up.

i felt bad but decided not to oppose my dads previous actions. instead my mom did, “ted, they’re nice people and those eggs could’ve gone to other uses if not eaten.” so he threw them away? “karen, if they’re nice people, they would give us a pie or a cake. mike if you get eggs again, just throw them away, i don’t want this family getting ill from bad eggs,” my dad ended the discussion and i only poked the egg on my plate. even though it wasn’t the egg given to me by the neighbor, i didn’t want to see or eat an egg anymore.

following my dads orders, every week when she would come with a grin and a new pack of eggs, i would quickly get the door and receive the carton. i’d say thanks even though i bit my tongue slightly since initially there’s nothing to be thankful for. i’d wait about ten minutes for her to walk away and re-enter her house, before going out the back gate and dumping the eggs in the compost. maybe i would’ve eaten the eggs but i was only following what my dad had said.

every week i’d be met with her eyes, i felt guilty like i was keeping a huge secret from her. i was but i couldn’t say anything, as much as she annoyed me, i still had my human decency. so i just grabbed the eggs and threw them away a couple minutes later. the cycle went on for months with her returning every week with a new batch and a new look in her eyes. i wanted to say something believe me, but i couldn’t just tell her to her face.

she made me feel so guilty with just a look.

the sheer power of the revelation that yes, indeed, jigen has an entire wardrobe of identical hats and also suits and yes, indeed, it seems that when he's got leisure to do so he irons each and every one (god not to be a fellow maladjusted human being but he's living the fucking dream just wearing the same thing he's comfortable with for like 50 years now and having his closet be only that, I support him fully)

the husbands vibes of this... I cAN'T, the way he just hands lupin the stuff he's finished ironing and lupin sassing him about his style (please lupin you'll wear one specific brightly coloured jacket for years at a time and call it fashion, something something stones and glass houses buddy)

also I find it so weirdly funny that lupin seems to be the only one of them who actually owns and wears more typical clothes to relax in -- it really brings home that the greatest trick lupin ever pulled was making his found family such a bunch of absolute weirdos that he occasionally has moments of looking positively normal standing next to them, something that is not going to happen through any other set of circumstances lol

☼: how i came up with the idea and ☾: how i thought people would respond to the fic, for BNGN!!

the anime's ridiculously fun adaptation of the kc vs metallica fight has a lot to answer for, basically (cut bc i spent Far too long talking about writing things)

so VA was my first ever jjba experience, i watched it with my partners bc they had been baiting me with the pretty men ruthlessly, and it's v fun to talk ab in that way that things that r both v fun and kinda flawed r fun to talk ab, so i was getting back into writing fic after a Ludicrously long spell of writer's block and having a fun time with that. and bc doppio in particular does not get a lot of screen time but spends all of it being rly fun in a particularly compelling way (he's a horrible little amoral crime man but he's also an anxious disaster weirdo, which makes him v fun to watch in a way that imo a more straightforward baddie wouldn't be) he was one of my favourite chew toys. so u can add bngn to the list of humanity's crimes that can be attributed to the phrase "wouldn't it be funny if..." bc i thought it would indeed be funny to shove him into the bucci gang, but my partners correctly pointed out that he would just try to kill them, which obviously would srsly hamper the comedy potential. so i had to find a way to make him Not Do That

my preferred way of approaching writing problems like this has always been the mia fey method of plot contrivance: don't ask "why would they do that", ask "why would they have to do that" and the entire initial outlining process (most of which i did in a single v boring night shift) was looking at all the stuff i wanted to do and trying to answer that question. originally it was just going to be a bunch of snapshot drabbles following the vague plot beats of "doppio stuck in the bucci gang" (remember, i had been writer's-blocked for Years and had absolutely no confidence in my ability to do a multi-part project of any real weight) and would be mainly light and comedy with a v barebones plot. but my horrible brain kept niggling those little questions. ok, dop doesn't have kc and the boss isn't in his body anymore, but he could just go back to passione, right? so why can't he do that. why can't diavolo just come back to him. if the boss is "gone" then why don't bruno and co just go home. what does everyone else think about doppio, little weirdo that he is? sure, it'd be easier if they all just basically liked him, but wouldn't it be more Fun if there was friction? it would be easier if he could just talk diavolo into being their pal, but wouldn't it be more Fun if he can't? ("easy solutions are usually less fun" is another of my writing philosophies that i think u can probably pick up on after a while lol. i like to cause problems on purpose. and then you have more fun questions to ask! if doppio can't just come clean to the gang and the boss won't just be nice and make friends, what situations have i forced them into bc of these immovable barriers? why does doppio have to come clean, and why does diavolo have to reveal himself are two questions that have only just been answered in the fic now, 30+ chapters in lol)

and the longer i was chewing on these things the more i was thinking about VA itself and the themes in it, because "these things have to happen" is actually a plot point in the original. the whole tragedy between bruno and giorno had been a big thing while we were watching it, bc they both have just some excellent fights and a really interesting relationship to me, i think in terms of jojo+jobro pairs it's the strongest narrative arc we got until p7 in terms of the central two and their reasons for coming together and fighting together being deeply entwined in the plot and themes. you can't rly talk about VA for any length of time without running up against questions like "what does it mean for someone else to bring your life meaning" and that applies to a lot of the villains as well! so if doppio was gonna be in the crew then it made a lot of sense to draw some parallels there and dig into those relationships as well, and from there everything just kind of naturally problematised itself. what does it mean to live and die for someone in a universe where death is canonically predestined? if i've come in with my funny joke au and now those characters aren't dying anymore, what does that actually mean for the weight of all of those concepts? if doppio and bruno don't die, haven't i kind of undermined one of the things about them that made them so resonant to me? if they can't die for the things that gave their lives meaning, then that kind of undercuts that meaning, doesn't it? it might sound morbid to say, but death is a big way of expressing love in VA (this happens in other parts of jjba ofc, but VA feels rly enamoured with that concept in particular) and i found that if i cut off the latter half of the story it lost a lot of punch, and at this point i was too deep in the weeds and i really, really wanted Punch.

i had seen quite a few fixit fics in the vein of "either GER or some other powerful time stand goes back and undoes all the Bad Stuff and everyone lives and it's fine" and u know, that's chill, u see those in p much every fandom. in fact u see that in actual original fiction sometimes, but something ab it always made me kinda sad in those? you see the characters struggling and pushed to their limits, sometimes bringing out the most fascinating parts of their characters, and even tho we don't want them to end up sad it usually felt kind of frustrating to turn back the clock and lose all of that. and the older i got the more it bothered me philosophically, too, bc okay, in the prime timeline everyone lives, but that other timeline Happened, right? all the stuff they endured hasn't actually been Erased, we saw it, it was as real as anything else in this fictional world. and all of this is swimming around in my head next to things like an extended joke about the word "narcolepsy" and "i think tiziano should wear a suit" and "trish should kill".

so i sat down on my boring night shift and after a slight hiccup (i wanted scenes of doppio's "normal" life and backstory, but i didn't want the whole first third of the fic to be that before we even got to the actual Plot, which i eventually realised i could solve with the flashbacks) i wrote my outline, chronologically, from "how does doppio physically end up with them" through every key event i already had floating in my head, and along the way everything just clicked? that is the fun thing about creating problems for your characters: the problems themselves solve other problems. "why can't doppio just go back to passione > because passione is also in revolt" solves "why can't bruno and co just go home > because they're targetted by them" and "doppio can't come clean > but someone in passione can out him". people have told me that the pacing is very good which tbh is remarkable considering the Length, but i think it comes down to that part of the planning. whenever i encountered any difficulty i just looked for ways to push the characters Harder until they did interesting things lol. once i got to the end i went back over it so that i could flesh out the earlier parts with all the later info i now had down and drop more foreshadowing and foundation-laying, and it's Really fun to see ppl notice those on rereads

and i did not think it would be all that popular! the ships are not the big VA superstars and the main character is a minor villain who isn't exactly getting a nice fun uncomplicated redemption arc and, again, it's a Beefy fic (tho a lot moreso than i originally projected...) with a Beefy plot. the main ship stuff is a big focus but again, not really in a way ppl r necessarily Looking For in their shippy content. low on pda and normal romance, big on the more troublesome aspects and less-than healthy parts. and that's before u even get into the weird meta pomo nonsense (again, something i scribbled in the outline margins all "oh this would be fun" that in the end totally Consumed me). i thought people would like the flashbacks, being more straightforward cute character/relationship stuff, but not really get into the plot or the present events.

i think it is safe to say i underestimated my readership. the support and the people reading and rereading this monster, showing up to updates and getting hype, and the people making fanart?? of my weird complicated meditation on what it means to rewrite a narrative??? it's been genuinely amazing and honestly the entire thing has been worth it just for the people i have met through it. i never imagined anyone would be as glowing over it as people have been. it is Wild to me whenever anyone mentions talking ab this with other people, like i wrote some kind of Real Story that human beings discuss with each other?? genuinely it knocks me out every time, and i love everything from the most scribbly notebook doodle of a scene or character to the pages of theorycrafting to the people just pointing out their favourite lines.

i am v glad my partners bullied me into watching the weird poses-and-punches anime to look at the pretty men.

It's super cool to hear you talk about romance manga! If you don't mind me asking- what are your favorites and why? (also, if you haven't read it, try You Got me,Senpai. It's like.... WEIRDLY GOOD.)

I got a tag for m/m recs and f/f recs and m/f recs but I dunno about favorites bc it tends to change depending on my mood and what I’ve read lately. also there’s a bunch of what I’d consider my favorite that I wouldn’t necessarily rec to others. well I’ll rehash a couple of them. the rec posts have the caveats and warnings and if it doesn’t have a rec post you’re on your own I don’t feel like writing it all out. Also I’m including webtoons.

A couple m/m faves:

My Bias Is Showing—it seems pretty standard at first glance but the charming art and the charm points of each respective character makes it really stand out. I absolutely love how you need a chart to track everyone’s respective understanding of the situation and how nobody actually has any idea what’s going on. I love how the character that could easily fall into stereotypes of the “weaker” role is very solidly just some guy and is very active in terms of both expression of desire and trajectory of the relationship. I love that siyeol is simultaneously cunning + manipulative and also the biggest idiot alive who essentially tricks himself into falling in love with just some guy because of the dog-blooded drama that only exists in his head. I love the scene where Siyeol bursts into tears and Aejoon just wraps him in a curtain burrito and walks away.

The Honest Life of a Game Studio—I really like how it ends up being this genre mashup of slice of life office romance and… well, I guess quick transmigration kind of? you get to see the characters interact in both extremely normal office settings and also extremely high stakes life or death scenarios. I also like just how detailed the video game studio segments are, like wow the artist definitely gives the impression of having either direct experience or observation of the office side of things. Also the main characters are essentially THE most Just Some Guy energy possible. Like they have their quirks, and Nobu is a big name in the video game world, but it’s kind of in the same way of ‘oh, shu takimi exists.’ he’s not as out there as, say, uchikoshi or kojima. and Anan is just a mega-fan who works in the industry. it’s a good contrast of ‘extremely normal’ and also ‘these guys are now trapped in time prison’

a couple of f/f faves:

Hana to Hoshi—this series stays in my heart. I’ve mostly moved away from high school romance because I like reading stories about characters in my age bracket (but preferably older) but these are my forever gals. I think it’s kind rare to find f/f with my preferred dynamic of ‘stoic weirdo’ and ‘kinda desperate dumbass’ especially with the fun chaotic energy I’m drawn to and this matches it exactly. also has MULTIPLE layers of one-sided familiarity which I absolutely LOVE. you get TWO WHOLE INSTANCES of the whole ‘oh… who are you?’ which is really funny. I also really like hanai’s character arc in terms of being burnt out on what she used to love and rediscovering that joy again, especially since for the most part it happens independently of hoshino.

After the Curtain Call—this series turns me stupid I turn into those awful rec post writers that only lists tropes and archetypes because a lot of them appeal to me. there’s an OFFICE LADY there’s an ACTRESS they’re ADULTS. Jaeyi is sooo cool and Soyung is sooo charming. they’re also very Just Some Guys energy. I also like how they tend to be on completely different pages about their relationship but somehow it never comes up and just works out??? lol??? like I’m sure it’s frustrating to some but I think it’s hysterical that jaeyi is like ‘man I gotta get a role so soyoung doesn’t dump me for being a loser’ and soyoung is like ‘I Am Going To Support Jaein And Her Career No Matter What’ like girls. somehow this is working.

A couple of m/f faves

For Better or for Worse—dylan is sooo charming dylan is soooooo charming I love her. also I really like the barriers to this relationship because it’s nothing that can be explained or resolved easily. on cedric’s side, he’s like ‘oh, she’s still hung up over her ex-fiance and considers him the love of her life…’ and on dylan’s end it’s ‘I know the story and the character you’re supposed to end up with and I care about you and her and I know I’m a placeholder so I can’t get too comfortable and I have to prepare myself to send them off with no hard feelings’ and I *really* like how the trajectory isn’t about the heroine being Actually The Worst Blah Blah Blah but with how the narrative seems to be going and what little I’ve read on spoiler threads it’s more of ‘well different things happened and people have different relationships now so of course they’ll respond differently, people aren’t going to Snap Into Place.’ equipotentiality yknow

I’m the villainous daughter and I’ve decided to keep the last boss as a pet—I actually have no idea if I got the title right I have five minutes anyway I love this one aileen gets to actually have villainous traits without being framed as needing to develop out of them, she’s ambitious and cunning and that’s her strength! also it’s fun seeing claude get yanked around by her whims and guile. There’s also an interesting conflict of villainess transmigrating and having the perspective of ‘this is my life that I’m living in this world’ and the protagonist having the perspective of ‘this world was made for me’

Some thoughts after watching 11x06 "On the Inside". I'll put it beneath a break because there's more than I thought to my mindless rambling.

Okay so they're going with a straight horror movie intro but skipping the usual 'we're having such a good time out here in the woods...wait, something it out here too'

It's a definite sign Daryl's not all team Reapers because he's basically taking off/hiding who he really is to fit in with his crazy ex-girlfriend's new posse.

Carol strolling in to find Kelly stuck in the mud with her casual "need some help" is perfection. I actually lol'd.

AT is also SUCH and underrated and underutilized actress on this show, I need more Kelly on my screen because she needs to be protected like the sweet cinnamon role she is.

So the jaundice family watched The Ring too many times and think this is how all the cool kids act in horror flicks. All they keep saying is 'hungry'; Connie, Virgil, someone get them a Mars bar and it'll be done.

why do I feel like they could do a mini spin off of just a little war going on between the walkers and those jaundice mo-fos? Then one of the walkers falls for a crawler girl but her family thinks he's from the wrong side of the yellow house and don't like how he thinks he's better because he's taller than all of them.

Kelly found Connie! So happy this storyline ended with the 2 people the arc was truly about; the 2 sisters finding each otherafter years of the show hating siblings.

Now can we finish with Carol's self-hatred stuff and let her heal? We know Daryl is gonna be finished with his "gotta save 'em all" issues soon so it would be fantastic if they could finally be on the same baggage free playing field. Just a thought Kang.

Overall I thought it was a good episode. Only a few things I would nitpick ie. limited Carol, cheesy music during some of the haunted house bits, and the reapers need to go back to basic training and learn some stuff and thangs.

Ofc the spoilers beforehand were blown way out of proportion though I'm not surprised. I didn't go in expecting to see what was foretold and thankfully the spirit Gods prevailed again in defeating the overreaction we go through EVERY episode.

I touched on this somewhat in one of my earlier asks but I’d be happy to talk about it again because I feel like Johnny’s reaction would be SO fucking funny.

Daniel, of course, smells this coming from a mile away. He has pretty good emotional intuition, for all of his hotheadedness, and what he isn’t able to figure out on his own (i.e. Sam and Robby dating when they literally lived with him lmao) Amanda can pretty readily fill in the gaps for him. He’s pretty easily able to spot that there’s something going on between Eli and Demetri--normal formerly-estranged teenage boy best friends don’t stand that close during training. And I like to think that Daniel and Eli would eventually bond (after a lot of apologizing from Hawk about the Medal of Honor business lol), and as they get more comfortable with each other, Eli might even open up to Daniel about his feelings for Demetri before confessing to him. Possibly Demetri would open up to Daniel too about having feelings for Eli? And poor Daniel would just sigh in frustration as he has to wait around for these two idiot boys to just GO OUT ALREADY. Point being, Daniel knows there’s something going on, and has for a while now. And considering how long these dumb boys have spent dancing around their feelings, Daniel’s had plenty of time to get used to the idea of two boys dating, even if it wasn’t the most common thing back in his day.

Johnny, though??? When he first finds out Hawk and Demetri are going out, he’s BAFFLED. Like utterly PERPLEXED. Not judgmental, really--he’s grown enough as a person since meeting Miguel that he doesn’t automatically jump to the conclusion that two boys dating is bad just because it’s...not what he expected. But he’s SO confused, like “Wait...Hawk is gay??? HOW??? Wasn’t he dating that hippie chick??? What happened to her?” “They broke up, Sensei. Ages ago, actually.” “She a beard or something?” “I don’t think so...Hawk just likes guys AND girls.” “Wait, that’s a thing??? You can DO that???” Johnny, bless his soul, is JUST starting to come around to the idea of gays--he can’t even BEGIN to wrap his head around bisexuals XD

Johnny’s also got this idea in his mind when he thinks of “gays”--some well-dressed man in a scarf doing that wrist thing (YOU KNOW WHICH WRIST THING) and talking like a valley girl and being sassy and obsessing over fashion and shoes and Johnny’s just so confused because Hawk is...none of that??? Like it just doesn’t even occur to Johnny that gay guys...can be masculine XD He thinks they’re all a bunch of girly weirdos, and--wait, you’re telling me one of my best fighters, one of the only kids I know who I can say without a shadow of a doubt is tough as nails, is...gay??? WHAT??? HOW CAN THIS BE??? And again, Johnny doesn’t really disapprove--he doesn’t give a fuck that Hawk apparently likes dick better than boobs, even if he doesn’t get how anyone could--he’s just butting up against all manner of cognitive dissonance, because he has all these preconceived notions that The Gays are a bunch of annoying sissies not worth his time, but...apparently??? They can be badass sometimes??? Who would have guessed???

But THEN, after Johnny gets over the initial shock and comes to full terms with one of his very best fighters being a raging homosexual (both literally and metaphorically), he stops and thinks about the scrawny, loudmouthed nerd who Hawk is apparently dating now, and suddenly everything just clicks into place, because...hey, wasn’t that the same snarky kid who went off on him for making fun of Hawk’s lip on the first day Hawk showed up in the dojo? Before all the mohawk “flipping the script” business? Wasn’t that the same snarky kid who Hawk yanked onstage during Valley Fest and insisted hold the board he wanted to kick in half? And wasn’t that the same snarky kid who Hawk flipped a bitch about joining Miyagi-Do (because no way Johnny DIDN’T overhear Hawk complaining about this during stretches, let’s be real)? And wasn’t that the same snarky kid who caused Hawk to FINALLY get his head out of his ass and ditch Kreese and Cobra Kai once and for all, all because Hawk wanted to save him? And Johnny just facepalms SO hard because of COURSE those kids were fucking gay for each other, how is he just now seeing it??? It was literally the MOST OBVIOUS THING???

You dun best believe Johnny feels like a damn idiot for not putting it together sooner. But looking at the facts of it in retrospect? Johnny isn’t surprised at all.
