On Blooming Under a Cold Moon

I love the title, especially because aside from the reference to the fireworks, it references the main players in this side-story and calls forward to Soul Society where again it’s the same people who are entangled in this complicate web. Cold Moon sometimes gets translated to Wintry Moon and this is the volume where Hitsugaya first unleashes his bankai (which is some translations, include ‘cold moon’ as part of the title), but again there’s also how blooming evokes the image of flowers (Momo, Rangiku), and even how fireworks or hanabi in japanese literally refers to ‘fire flowers’ (as one post puts it). I do like the imagery of Rangiku and Momo in relation to Toshiro (blooming under his protection for example) because of this, BUT this title can also reference Aizen since Kyouka Suigetsu literally means “Mirror Flower, Water Moon”, and I don’t know if the nuance is the same, in that Aizen could also definitely be considered a cold moon, cold-blooded in this case instead of references to temperature.

This is one of those Momo>Hitsugaya things I love, in that Momo has probably consistently celebrated Hitsugaya’s birthday. That’s maybe over twenty years of birthday celebrations, not even counting when they were in Rukongai. Knowing that, there’s absolutely no way Hitsugaya doesn’t celebrate her birthday as well.

With the conversation with Rangiku, there are two interpretations for me. One, if even Rangiku didn’t know that it was Hitsugaya’s birthday on that day, then it’s possible that he never told anyone in the 10th about his birthday which is keeping in with his character, and his initial views about birthdays and celebrations (not wanting to make it a big deal etc., keeping things to himself). This makes sense considering what we do know of Toshiro but it does make me a bit sad if it means that he never got to celebrate with Isshin and Rangiku and the rest of the Squad before the former disappeared. The second interpretation is that Rangiku does know when his birthday is but just forgot it was that day already. (I lean more toward the second one.)

On the subject of birthdays, it makes me sad in relation to Rangiku and Gin, because it was Gin who asked when her birthday was! As if he wanted to celebrate it with her. In the same way Rangiku said her life had no meaning till she met Gin, Gin probably had no one to ask or no one he cared enough about to ask about their birthday until he met Rangiku. Which is a sucker-punch because Momo says they celebrated Rangiku’s birthday together which maybe implies that she celebrated it with the SWA or Momo and Toshiro, but not with Gin. And since her memory reverts back to when they were kids, it’s probably been a while since Rangiku and Gin spent their birthdays together.

And again I hate Aizen, and I hate that panel of him with Toshiro and Rangiku because it’s his words that reassure to them and reaffirm to them the importance of defining your own happiness (‘It doesn’t matter even if it isn’t the truth’ - the best lies have semblances of truth after all) which means this memory in relation to their birthdays will always have that taint. Remember, when I said he gaslit the academy trio (and Gin and Tousen), well he gaslit Toshiro and Rangiku too. (Seriously, f Aizen).

I love Toshiro’s monologue because it’s very him, the cynical and idealistic part of him both. He acknowledges that separations and endings are inevitable, but he still expresses the hope that we’ll continue to shine until that inevitable end.

The fact that this story is the opener for Volume 20, and paired with that poem is also great because it’s ambiguous enough that you can’t tell from which pov each statement is.

“Those who do not know what love is, liken it to beauty,” could definitely apply to Momo, but perhaps also Toshiro because of their youth and idealism. But the line, “Those who claim to know what love is, liken it to ugliness”, while I think is directly in reference to Aizen considering the events of this volume, I believe it actually pertains to Gin, and also Rangiku to an extent. See, this is why despite the gap between Soul Society and Deicide, no one was really surprised when Gin ‘betrayed’ Aizen for Rangiku. Kubo always likes to focus on the banter and the friendships and comedic moments, but when it comes to any deep and usually romantic connection he usually offscreens it, only planting subtle references. He’s said before that he doesn’t focus on romance, but perhaps also because too much focus lessens the gravity of these relationships. In a way, it’s also more intimate, because the deeper nuances and history is usually kept in view away from the readers such that it’s only for both parties of the relationship (besides hitsuhina, ginran, there’s also kaien and miyako).

You will be hooked! Lots of incredible world building, loveable characters, a driving plot that keeps you interested, and the character growth and development in the story is soooo good. Plus lots of subtext between the "life and death companions" haha (webtoon tones down some things :/ but the novel is steeped in it)

A gyaru meets an edgy "guy" at a music store, falls for him, realizes he's actually the girl that sits next to her in class, and they fall in love. There's way more to it than that. Please please some jealousy aizen content

I've gotten a lot of asks about jealous Aizen content/continuation of my jealous Aizen snippet, and I really, really want to write a multi-chapter fic of this.

Unfortunately, I'm also working on my thesis and plan on defending in a few months, so my draft story is, well, a draft still 😭 thank you so much for your patience anon(s) and following up with me about it, but I sadly won't post something relating to it until I'm done with my thesis!!

I don’t think it’s Omaeda or Nanao. Omaeda hadn’t really had the character development necessary for Bankai and Nanao only just got her Zanpakuto so she hasn’t had time.

Mashiro is probably the most likely in universe because she’s the oldest, but we have barely seen any of her in the series. We don’t even know what her Shikai is. So narratively it wouldn’t make sense for her to get one (yes I know the same can be said of Isane and Tetsuzaemon, who were implied to get bankai, but that’s only after the time skip and I have a LOT of problems with the time skip, but that’s another post).

So that leaves Izuru, Momo, Rangiku, and Yumichika as potential candidates.

Izuru:

I think unfortunately Izuru wouldn’t make it yet, because I don’t feel like he’s gone through enough to get it yet. Shuhei had to have his beliefs challenged many times and he got his Bankai by staying true to his convictions. Renji got his by casting aside the idea that he had to fit into a mold and resolving that nothing can ever change the core of who he is. I don’t think Izuru has been challenged enough in canon to establish his beliefs to that extent. Though if he were to get bankai, I think it would have worked in the Shusuke Amagai arc.

In that arc, he grows confident in himself and his abilities and had to stand strong in face of being betrayed by yet another captain. Unfortunately he was pushed to the side for Ichigo to step in, but I still think this arc could have at least been a big push towards bankai. Y’know, if it was canon.

Momo:

Momo has been through a lot, her entire worldview was challenged by Aizen’s betrayal. She has definitely experienced challenges on the scale of the other bankai users. And she’s overcome a lot of them. It took a while, even in the Fake Karakura Town Arc she still called Aizen “Captain.” But we see in TYBW that she’s far more sure of herself and actually has a wholesome dynamic with Shinji.

I think that she could easily gain her bankai by being challenged in a similar way to Shuhei: bringing up her loyalty to her old captain and forcing her to make a statement about who she is as an individual. Her answer would have to be different though. A major part of Shuhei’s conflict was about the beliefs Tosen taught vs how he strayed from those beliefs in the end. Momo’s conflict however was that the man she’d obsessed with wasn’t real, that the person she’d build herself around want actually who she thought he was. Her development would have to be standing on her own, not leaning on anyone. Not Aizen, not Shinji, not Renji or Izuru, but herself. Finding her freedom to stand on her own.

Narratively it works especially well because we has so much focus on her in the Soul Society arc, as well as the focus on Aizen, that her gaining bankai to show her independence would be a good way to wrap up that character arc.

Rangiku:

She’s been around for a while. She’s been deserted by her captain (Isshin) and betrayed by her friend (Gin). But I don’t think her beliefs have been challenged enough to get bankai. She could possibly achieve it by pure training since she is one of the oldest lieutenants (not counting the vizoreds), but she hasn’t shown an interest in doing so. I think she has the potential, but she’d need a lot more motivation than anything we’ve seen from her.

Yumichika:

This one is interesting. Yumichika was one of the first characters we met, and has been a staple for the series, as he was part of the team stationed in Karakura Town during the arrancar attacks and was also on of the people to go to the World of the Living during the Lost Agent arc to give Ichigo his powers back. He’s important to the narrative, so he’s more likely to get special treatment from the story.

Yumichika also has an established dynamic with his Zanpakuto, like Ichigo, Renji, and Shuhei. He’s one of the few who’s relations with their Zanpakuto are actually developed. We see Ichigo and and Renji interacting with their Zanpakuto, and Shuhei talks about how he doesn’t like Kazeshini’s shape. Kenpachi, as another example, has an established dynamic with his Zanpakuto because he ignored her for so long (and also has technically been interacting with her the entire time). Aside from them Yumichika is the one with the most established relationship with his zanpakuto.

Yumichika has also experienced tremendous growth over the series. He started as only every fighting physically to align himself with Squad 11’s ideals. As the series progresses, he finds himself willing to use his true Zanpakuto when it is truly necessary. And in TYBW he uses kido, in front of Ikkaku. And he was prepared to use his true Zanpakuto in front of everyone to face off against zombie Toshiro! That’s character development!

His character progression is leading up to him being fulling confident in his place in the squad and him being able to use his true powers freely. Thus, I feel like he’s on the track to get bankai already. He’s got the parallel with Ikkaku, who’s already gained bankai. Yumichika is also a lot more powerful than he is believed to be, with his in-universe evaluations being based on his restricted abilities. I think he’s definitely going to get bankai, he just needs more time to cook.

But the question remains. Who would get it first: Momo or Yumichika?

It’s tough because it relies on hypotheticals. I think narratively it would have been best for Momo it get her bankai during TYBW to establish her independence even while Aizen is a major player in the conflict. But because that obviously didn’t happen, I don’t know when the next crisis she’d need it for would arise.

Momo seems like the type where she’d need a catalyst event to get her bankai like Renji (Rukia’s execution) and Shuhei (the whole thing with Hikone).

Yumichika on the other hand feels like he could get there on his own with training, a la Ikkaku, Byakuya, and Toshiro.

So the question becomes, can Yumichika complete his training for bankai before Momo comes into another crisis to get bankai?

I’m going to have to say yes, I think Yumichika would pull it off.

This post will be writer’s comments on Toichiro, Shizuki, and Aizen

Minor route spoilers for Toto and Shizu, and, well, obviously there’s nothing to spoil for Aizen yet.

Non-spoiler comments: The theme of Twilight faction is that “they are dealing with something else in the background”, so these baggage kind of gets in the way of MC’s interaction/relationship with the ayakashi. Writer also revealed that sometimes they change/modify character concepts based on the art.  

Touichirou

The staff in the company always call him with “Touichirou-sama” because of his vibes haha.

He’s a tricky trickster fox, so the opening scenes of Twilight faction has all the “yikes” going on because it’s from the MC’s POV, and the plot had her being pushed around a bit by Toto.  

Toto's character was originally conceived to be impatient, easily jealous, and was nice only to those he trusted. Generally brattier than he is now. They still kept some of it, but modified it so that he has a more noble/dignified vibes. More befitting his role as heir candidate of the fox village.

“Yuuri” is a real noble surname. They just used different kanji for Toto just to maintain the fiction though. Also, due to the dad’s naming policy, in Toto’s route there ended up being 4 people whose names are something-ichirou. It makes editing and reviewing tough LOL. (and makes Keijirou even grumpier, apparently, because he's so sensitive about the -jirou name)

Shidzuki

He used to be conceived as a super serious character, typical of the butler types, so it kind of have similar vibes to Gin. But during development the staff  decided that Shidzu is a kind of womanizer and gets fiery when drinking. They really enjoy having that kind of “image gap”/gap moe in the characters.

There’s a serious-themed event that reveals the dynamics between Shidzu and Kage. Eng players should expect it roundabout September 2021. It was released September 2020 in Japan, and Eng usually follows the schedule pretty closely. 

They’ve also planned an event that will show how Shidzu came to serve Toto more clearly. As of this writing (August 2021) they said it’s not released yet even in Japan, so we’ll just wait for it I guess. 

Aizen

(YO, SO I’M SO BIASED AND I GOT SO EXCITED I STARTED SCREAMING ABOUT KENSHIN AND SHINGEN AND EVERYTHING, DIDN’T EVEN BOTHER READING SHIDZU AND TOTO AT FIRST)

Aizen was originally meant to be Tatsu and Aki’s age, in their same group/class/rank/etc. The vibes they were aiming for was “a beautiful, sickly unfortunate boy”. Considered the thought of him having Tuberculosis. They kind of dumped everything, though. Aizen’s relationship with Tatsu was one of the changes in development (them being quasi-adopted-brothers).

The artist had this mental image that Aizen should be the sort of person who enjoys high-end clothing. The writer thought that was a good idea and ran with it. That’s why one of Aizen’s skills is like “Stylish attire” or something. Apparently the gloves he wears even with the kimono are also for ~fashion~. Well, I guess it’s not related to his powers, haha. Shut down all the conspiracies!

I guess they had to limit Tatsu and Aizen talking because Aizen has too many secrets, LOL, but the writer says they will interact more in Aizen’s route. (FINALLY OMG)

Blue Fire Tree

“Fire trees should be blue not red,” Ichika mumbles while filling in the traced pattern of the tree on the canvass as Hinamori gathers her unruly red mane into a semblance of a bun. Her charge was a Shinigami apprentice and had the hodgepodge attitude of both of her parents. She was sarcastic, blunt, inquisitive, passionate, and kind.

Renji thought she was the best person to teach his daughter common spells to start off her training. Not that Hinamori disliked being the resident kido expert. She particularly loved the monicker, but there were times she felt she didn’t deserve the title. Like today when, for some other reason, Ichika and her was blindsided by arts and crafts.

“Wouldn’t you like the flowers to resemble your hair?” Hinamori clips the last of the strands and looks over the child’s shoulder. The colors spill out of the lines and the scenery seems to change from summer to winter.

“But blue is the hottest color. Imagine trees blooming with the brightest flames, the most intense warmth, and the most lasting flowers.” Ichika finishes the piece with a last dash of blue paint. The apprentice turns to her and asks, “Does it look so desolate?”

“No, not really. To me, winter has always been warm.“

Someone coughs behind them to get their attention. Hitsugaya Toushiro, captain of the 10th Division, stands awkwardly at the entrance of the dojo with a tray of tea and pot of biscuits. It doesn’t escape her notice that he used the tea set she gave last Christmas, and this observation makes her feel giddy inside.

Maybe I’m just appreciative of people who use my gifts, Hinamori justifies to herself.

“Hello, Captain Hitsugaya. Is that for us or for Vice-Captain Momo?” Ichika greets him as she takes the tray off his hands.

The blush creeps on the captain’s face just as quickly as his brows furrow in annoyance. He quickly glares at the mischievous remark of Ichika and redirects his gaze to his equally flustered childhood best friend. “This was not of my own good will. I was threatened by Byakuya to take good care of his precious niece, and it just so happens that this space is under my jurisdiction.”

Hinamori tilts her head in a slight apology. “I hope we don’t bother you too much. Would you like to join us for some art session? Ichika loves to paint today.”

He almost says something, but he stops himself. His stance goes from alert to rigid, and tension fills the air. “Maybe some other time.” Ichika glances from her current teacher to the captain and back to her teacher again.

“Oh, sorry for taking up your time.” Hinamori slightly bows, unsure of what transpired just now, and Hitsugaya nods in return. Before he is completely out of her sight, she calls out to him again.

“Shiro-chan?” He glances back at the sound of his nickname. “Thanks for the tea.”

He smiles in mild annoyance before he flash-steps out of their sight. “It’s Captain Hitsugaya to you.”

“Something’s bothering you,” Rangiku says to Hinamori as she slides beside her in the ramen booth. “Your treat in exchange for my wisdom.” She proceeds to order her usual ramen and sake combo.

“How was your trip to the Land of the Living?” Hinamori asks, obviously skirting the issue she wishes to raise.

“Kazui is subdued and gentle like his mother, but somehow, he manages to get into fights with bullies on the street. It’s his Ichigo genes.” The combo meal arrives along with two shot glasses. “How are you doing with the chaotic devil spawn Ichika?”

“She’s progressing really fast with the kido, but she gets so distracted easily. It’s cute though that Renji and Rukia are not pressuring her. Great parents. How nice it must be.”

Rangiku side-eyes her while slurping the thick noodles. “How nice what now – “

Hinamori plays with her empty bowl and fidgets with her chopsticks. “To not be alone.”

She chokes on her noodles and quickly downs half of the sake bottle. “Oh, this is great news! I have someone on my mind who would like to be in your company forever.”

Hinamori gives no response and instead continues fiddling with her bowl. “How nice it is to be also like Shiro-chan, content and busy enough to be single. How do I become like your captain, Rangiku?”

The smile fades from the woman’s face and is replaced by a bustling vein near her temple. “I’m sorry what did that short man do or say to you?”

“I asked him if he would like to do some art with us, you know, help me with babysitting for a few minutes, but he literally stiffened like a stick. Seems like he doesn’t want to waste time with kids or do any family-related activities. Or maybe he’s just too busy, captain duties and all.”

And yet he took the time to bring you tea, a voice screams inside her mind.

“That’s….rude,” an exasperated Rangiku remarks. She pours a glass for Hinamori and decides on a plan. “Unless you’re seeing him as….?”

“Huh? Oh no no no.” Hinamori downs the liquid in one gulp, suddenly embarrassed by her friend’s insinuation. “We’re just friends, childhood friends. I…don’t see Shiro-chan that way.”

“Sure, whatever you say Momo. Do you want me to introduce you to some people?”

Hinamori looks up at her, doe-eyed.

“I guess that’s a yes.”

Hinamori actually forgot about her request to Rangiku as she and her student started to settle in a rather serious kido training. The plan apparently was set to happen after a week when she came across a bulletin announcing her quest for a perfect match through a one-day interview application. This was the first time Hinamori wanted to be swallowed by the void and never return to Seiretei.

She finds herself visiting Division 10 HQ every afternoon but to no avail since coincidentally, Rangiku has some errands to do in Karakura, and won’t be back until the date of the interview. Or maybe it has also something to do with Hinamori avoiding Hitsugaya and having to do all the explaining. And so she had no choice but to wait for the inevitable day.

“Uhhh Vice-Captain Matsumoto, you said introduce, not organize a whole dating screening process!” Hinamori’s voice goes a pitch higher for each word, but Rangiku is too busy arranging the people lining up to notice her.

Her current captain, Shinji Hirako, chuckles beside the blondie, amused by the growing line of eligible Shinigami singles in their HQ. “You are quite the eye candy in our division, huh. Didn’t expect you’d have this many suitors.” He squeezes his vice-captain’s shoulder as form of reassurance. “You should have told me, Hinamori. I could have set you up in an arranged marriage.”

“Captain, that’s atrocious!” Hinamori protests. She walks over to Rangiku to disperse the line, but Yumichika and Ikkaku move to her side and grabs her midway through her litany of objections. They lead her to a makeshift container with two chairs facing each other and a table in between.

“This is ridiculous,” Hinamori mumbles her breath, her energy already defeated by the two dumbasses in front of her.

“Well to be fair, Hinamori, this is a long time coming,” Yumichika says.

“And the result necessitates this kind of method so stop mumbling and screen your admirers, babe,” Ikkaku supplies. Irritated, Hinamori chases them off with two fireballs.

The first ten Shinigami ‘applicants’ were too insufferable as they were clearly aiming for the prestige of her position.

“If dating a vice-captain would give me a higher seat in Gotei 13 then why am I still single?” she bats the question to the 11th person who sat across her. When they didn’t give her an answer, she sighs, “Next please.”

“Would you know what’s my favorite brand of tea?”

“Uhh, Robusta.”

“I believe that’s coffee. Next please.”

“Hello, vice-captain Hinamori, I brought you peaches. They’re my favorite.”

“I’m allergic to them. I’m sorry. Next please?”

“What are your strengths?”

“Well, I can do shunpo.”

“That’s basic Shinigami skills.”

“…………..”

“…………..”

“I’ll see myself out. Thank you for your time, vice-captain.”

“I know you’re traumatized by Aizen-“

The container collapses as Hinamori summons Tobiume.

“I think I will be forever alone.” Hinamori looks on as her fellow vice-captains clean up the mess she incurred over the unfinished statement earlier.

“I’m really sorry if I did the whole thing over the top,” Rangiku tells her sincerely. She hugs the raven-haired girl and waits in silent for the commotion to die down. “Though the last one was really foul, and you were valid to be angry.”

“I was afraid I’d burn down Captain Shinji’s quarters.”

“You can, just to piss him off. The whole process is so draining, huh?” Hinamori nods at the observation. Rangiku continues, seemingly voicing her own thoughts, “It’s hard to put yourself out there especially when they don’t know batshit about you. Would be easier if you have common interests or when they’re already your friend.”

The last phrase is said so pointedly that Hinamori’s mind automatically pictures Hitsugaya. She runs along with her imagination. How easy it would be indeed to spend the rest of her life with him. And as if her mind conjured him, the 10th Division Captain comes into view alongside Ichika. It looks like her student dragged him to the unfortunate event.

There’s an angry glint in his eyes that Hinamori noticed. It was the torn expression he wore when she wounded her knees back when they were kids, the same frown when she told him she would kill for the traitor, the same worried eyes when she almost died. But his eyes refuse to meet hers.

“You missed all the fun, Captain.” Rangiku stretches out her arms as she stands up. She gestures for the rest of their friends to come nearer so they could re-group and go home. “It was a bad plan, and I owe Hinamori one. So we’re kinda ready for your scolding.”

Hitsugaya stays silent throughout the shuffling of his fellow Shinigami, in fact he remains frozen for too long that Ichika elbows him to get a response out of him. “Come on, you ruminated one week for this, and I had to physically stop you from harassing the interested applicants.”

“Shut up, Ichika,” the silver-haired captain mutters.

“I’ll tell on you to Uncle Byakuya!” the redhead sticks out her tongue and runs over to the side of Rangiku.

More annoyed than ever, Hitsugaya grunts and storms off towards Hinamori. “I’m not here to scold anyone. I’m here for the….dating application,” he gulps amid the collective gasps that ran through the group and the muffled laughter of Rangiku who clearly foresaw this.

“Well, what can I say, but fucking finally!” The blonde swigs a new bottle of wine from inside her robes and goes to do a little crowd control.

Hinamori’s eyes get a little bit bigger, and she stares at him with mouth agape, but she lets him grab her hand, in a gentle manner that he usually does, and brings her to the farthest fire tree in the area.

“Shiro-chan, what did you mean……” She continues to stare at his hand who somehow refuses to let go of her yet.

Ironically, he is also staring at the same hand, unsure whether to let go right now before he can actually say something. “I don’t know why you had to go through all of that.”

“I’m..I’m still confused, to be honest. It was just a passing feeling of loneliness, and I rambled to Rangiku which she took seriously….” Hinamori knows she is starting to word vomit out of nervousness, but she halts when he finally lets her go. Maybe she has misunderstood his presence again.

Hitsugaya raises his palm to her. “Would you let me…uhhh…word vomit this time?”

She slowly nods, rather shocked at his insistence, and even more so when he chooses to ramble.

“Momo, I have a cold reiatsu. My touch is never warm. But I know you like green tea, steeped in warm water for exactly 10 minutes, and that you don’t put sugar. You are afraid of storms, and you need a blanket around you to calm down. You like watermelon, but I think it’s because I subjected you to multiple summers of conditioning. You’re my childhood best friend. You’re hardworking. You are a kido expert. You earned your right to be a vice-captain, and you’ll do greater things.

And I know it’s not enough to say that I know you, I’ve always known you, but will it be enough for you to allow me to stay beside you?”

Hinamori leans against the trunk of the fire tree, breathless from his train of words. “Oh my god, this is too overwhelming. I thought you hated being not single.”

“What?” Hitsugaya looks at her with a puzzled expression.

“You don’t like Ichika. Or doing art…with kids.”

“Well, Ichika is a brat to me, but she’s a good student and will be a good Shinigami like her parents.” He nurses his temples for the growing headache. “Momo, listen to me.” He steps closer to her and makes sure she’s only looking at him. “I panicked because I visualized you and me….and you know. It wasn’t right when I haven’t even told you anything yet.”

“Oh.” The moment of realization dawns on her. “Oh, that’s great.”

“So we can finally go back to how we were.” Hitsugaya lets out a shaky breath as he sits on the grass and watches as the red petals of the fire tree shower them lightly.

A blushing Hinamori crouches down to his level. “Well, not quite. You should know, Shiro-chan, your reiatsu has always been warm and comforting to me.” She reaches out to take his hand and intertwines their fingers.

Hitsugaya smiles as he silently thanks himself that he outgrew her by two inches so he could easily slip a kiss on her forehead. “It’s Captain Hitsugaya.”

Ichika tries to see beyond the wall of spectators but Rangiku is not letting anyone through. She huffs indignantly, wanting to know whether her incessant prodding and pestering of the oblivious Hitsugaya bore some fruit. She has no choice but to juice out all the details later on from her uncle.

On second thought, maybe she won’t have to. Blue petals swayed with the light breeze of the wind, and on the far edge of the Fifth Division’s HQ is a lone blue fire tree.

Tragically, it turns out that despite our mutual love of Hisagi, neither of us have read any Hisagi fanfic (unless it's in an "in which he fleetingly appears, similar to canon" sense)… I haven't even read CFYOW, unfortunately. I am overwhelmed by the amount of content Bleach fandom puts out, and I really haven't gone out searching beyond things that appear on my dash that are about like, my Top Blorbos. But everything I have chosen to read I have really enjoyed! Recently I've been reblogging/linking anything I've read under the bleach fanfic tag (which also has other random posts related to fanfic… but mostly recs of things I've read). Again, let me emphasize that I have not been a prolific reader, so this is not a massive rec list. But I *am* committed spending a lot of time with the things I do read!

What’s in that tag? I like reading things about Hitsugaya, Hinamori, Matsumoto, Byakuya, Rukia, and Renji. These things are generally in their standard combinations, but I wanted to highlight this fic about Byakuya and Hinamori, because any time characters interact well outside of their typical orbits is to be treasured. It’s set post-Soul Society arc and focuses on the ramifications of Aizen’s defection and Byakuya’s new orientation to absolute law: Firebird and Ashflower (Suite) by tsukara.

You will also find lots of What We Do with Our Hearts posts, which is a multi-chapter fic by polynya that includes all of the above characters in multiple combinations and Kuchiki galore. It will finish posting this week, so it’s a great time to get on that! (Hisagi is in chapters 4 and 12!)

I’m mostly just gonna echo what whipplefilter said above. Despite liking Bleach a whole ton, for some reason fanfic isn’t something that I go searching for. I’ll wholly recommend anything that’s in the bleach fanfic tag, and I’ve also super been enjoying What We Do with Our Hearts.

I’ll read just about anything that comes across my dash, but lol that’s a very small amount. That being said, for this ask I did specifically go looking for some Hisagi fic and uh… searching tags on AO3 was not as fruitful as I thought it would be, because Hisagi tends to show up a lot in fic, but he is not often depicted in the way that I like seeing. Even though I’ll read just about anything, I guess I tend to have fairly specific tastes when it comes to liking it.

However, in my search for fanfic, I did come across this piece, which I thought was a fun time! I really enjoyed the large ensemble cast and plays a lot with character interactions. In case you haven’t noticed, this is a genre we like very much over here at B3.

The Kanoichi Clan

*This will be long, but bare with me. Please note that this is all speculation and not concrete.*

I have been thinking about this clan. But specifically on one bitch.

Kanoichi Satoru’s deadbeat dad. (I don’t really like the man. And this will be more bashing on the man because of what he did to Satoru.)

Is this man even alive? Don’t know but for now, let’s say yes.

I will focus on Kanoichi-san and his son.

For the rest of this thing, I will call the father “Kanoichi-san” and Satoru “Satoru” or “Kanoichi-kun.”

I am not apologizing for anything that might make one mad and I don’t condone what Satoru did in his introduction. This is to look at the characters on a deeper level.

Anyway, without further ado

This bitch would have allowed his son to be permanently disfigured (at worst, killed) for the house god beside him.

So, exactly what would his reaction be to our main character?

Let’s get a little deeper with this.

According to Satoru, his father had never been like this before. He would never have sacrificed his son for anything. But let’s let it be known that children never know their parents’ true colors until later.

Could it be that Satoru’s father had always been like this, and this incident revealed that to Satoru? Kanoichi-san probably didn’t care much about his son, seeing him as nothing but a tool that can be replaced. He can make more children if Satoru was to die, as stated in these panels.

“Unfortunately, that boy cannot be used as a threat. I can always make another child after all.”

“His eyes . . . His heart . . . Go ahead and gouge them out.”

This fucker, didn’t see Satoru as his son in this moment. “That boy” instead of “my son” or “Satoru” as in Japanese they don’t really have “he/her” pronouns. (Or is it just “you” that they don’t have a word for?)

Anyway. He didn’t care.

Satoru believes that his father would never have done that if it hadn’t been for the Another.

If it had been a different situation, I do believe Kanoichi-san wouldn’t have cared either way. He would have allowed the perpetrator to kill Satoru at any point no matter the situation.

Kanoichi-san probably never cared for his family and Satoru is finally seeing it, but the situation warped his way of thinking. Instead of finding blame in his father’s actions (or lack thereof), he placed the blame on the Another who is protecting them (I think this is how that works, correct me if I am wrong). The Another is there to help prosper the family and home, keeping it safe.

In the anime, during this flashback, Akane was saying how she’s gotten to understand Suzu (the mansion god) a lot better since Arata had come by. She compares Arata to Kanoichi-san:

“Everytime I see how Miyako-san acts with Anothers, I remember my uncle . . . your father. He was friends with Anothers. He was Suzu-sama’s best friend.”

(We also get his face here instead of the manga. Strange. They might have pulled things from the latest volumes.)

(The man would probably be in his late 50s-late 60s now depending on how old he was when he had Satoru. And he would probably not look a day over 40. Here he does look well into his early 30s but it’s difficult to tell.)

In this scene, Satoru and Akane spoke in a way that it came across that Satoru’s father (Akane’s uncle) has passed away.

As noted by Akane saying “[he] was Suzu-sama’s best friend.”

In the manga, the wording is a little different.

“He was even getting along with the mansion god . . .”

“The mansion god” is used instead of “Suzu-sama.”

A little odd on why the anime added more to the elevator scene and changed up Akane and her relationship with the Zashiki-warashi. (Unless that’ll be something later down the road in the series and they just pulled it towards the beginning.)

Again note the change in wording. Here she says

“It reminds you of . . . your father.”

Not whatever she said in the anime. Not the “I remember . . .” but the “It reminds you . . . ” 

This makes it a bit more meaningful. Allows us to see a different side. Everytime Satoru sees Arata acting in such a way, he’s thinking of his father. He’s remembering his trauma and what had led up to it, the why he has a scar in the first place.

There’s also this tidbit in the same page:

“Do you leave it there just to spite him?”

Satoru still keeps the scar to spite his father and the clan. And Satoru has made it clear to the audience the only reason he hasn’t given up his family name and turned his back on the clan is because Akane is still there.

So, these are giving mix signals. Is Kanoichi-san still alive or has he passed and Kanoichi-kun is trying to hold onto something as a reminder?

Kanoichi-san is . . . something.

I doubt he’s ever been a good father. He is probably one of those fathers that choose their obsesssion (work or hobby or something) over their own family.

The Zarashiki-warashi is the reason they are prospering. As stated by Satoru here:

You can see his anger but also the fear that he probably still holds.

He doesn’t see the worth in being a sacrifice for prosperity. And I don’t see it either. It isn’t worth sacrificing your child to live a prosperous life unless you’re a greedy person.

And he doesn’t trust Arata because he fears that he will sacrifice a human if it meant appealing to Anothers. He doesn’t have a reason to trust Arata either. He doesn’t know him other than as a new face in the work—naive and ignorant and fully willing to be all buddy-buddy with the beings that messed his life up.

So Kanoichi-san is a person willing to sacrifice his own child for the sake of keeping an Another safe. What’s not to stop him from sacrificing something or someone else for something even smaller?

This will now go into my theory of how Kanoichi-san will react to Miyako Arata. You can skip straight to the comments to rebuttal me.

If anything Kanoichi-san probably has an obsession with Anothers (not like Saejima). It’s toned down, nonchalant with the need to know, to find out. He is patient and does not rush, calm and cautious with his movements.

(I’m trying to think of an anime villain. Probably Aizen from Bleach? Dude planned for hundreds of years and experimented and got things done without rushing and it bore fruit.)

So say, Kanoichi-san is all the willing to watch the pieces on a chessboard fall, being careful in his movements and will take out and sacrifice anything along the way. (I’m not a chess player so this metaphor probably doesn’t make sense but pretend it does)

All of a sudden, some kid comes out of nowhere being able to speak to these creatures that have always fascinated him. This kid can understand them and learn from the creatures than whatever theories the humans make up. He would probably watch carefully from the shadows to see what he kind of information could extract before striking.

Arata is a fascinating character to the outside world. He is descended from a great onmyōji and has this man’s rare ability. So, now, he’s also fascinated by this human.

Patience can always wear thin and break.

Since he would give up his own son to protect an Another. What lengths would he go to get this human with the ability to speak to them on his side?

They are of a prominent clan, so they would be rich. Money could go a long way. Money could sway others where it won’t sway some.

He could most likely get away with kidnapping, yes?

But that’s a thought for another time.

Kanoichi-san gives off these little vibes of an antagonist who’s willing to wait in the weeds for the right opportunity. He will probably resort in taking Arata if it means helping him get close to Anothers. (Trying to think of character who betrayed mc after “teaching” them. Can’t think of anyone atm. Anyone know of anyone?)

If Kanoichi-san is to cross paths with Arata, then I fear for the redhead. He will probably not see anything wrong with talking about Anothers with someone willing to listen after having been brushed off (maybe a little iffy cause dude bro is sketchy and related to trigger-happy Satoru). Because of this, he doesn’t really delve into weaknesses since he doesn’t really know them. He keeps important information to himself.

Despite being a patient person, Kanoichi-san finally allows himself to move.

Then, well, RIP Arata I guess.

Of course, this is all speculation. Except for the Satoru’s part because wow, he got the short end of the stick. I do feel bad for him, but I don’t condone his burning of babies.

Same with Sakaki Kyouichi, don’t condone him at all in the Hell Arc. I will get into that another time.

how does gin feel about the espada individually and as a collective?

          out of character.  Gin knows the Espada, as a whole, were created and enhanced using the Hogyoku under Aizen’s control. SO THE ENTIRE CONCEPT OF THE ESPADA GIVES GIN A SOUR FEELING. The Hogyoku, which houses Rangiku’s stolen soul piece, has given life to these abomnation-esque pawns for Aizen to manipulate and use. It’s yet another violation, in Gin’s eyes, of his lover’s stolen power. No matter these Arrancar’s individuality, their personalities and powers and inclination to humor Gin and / or keep him company and socialize, there’s that underlying knowledge that they were birthed using her.

          Gin views the Espada, therefore, as extensions of Aizen. Subordinates, the same as those Shinigami that did his whims out in the Rukongai; they’re given the illusion of autonomy via Aizen’s casual plucking of their strings, and that’s that. Some are more important than others, either by the ranking on their skins or by their demeanor; Ulquiorra is one of the prized soldiers, despite being ranked Fourth, because Aizen prefers him. Gin, in some ways regrettably and against his best efforts, also tends to prefer the more rational and calm ones that Aizen too treasures. Ulquiorra, Starrk, and Harribel are at the top of Gin’s list... but he diverts this by teasing and pretending to prefer detestable and arrogant ones, like Luppi, and otherwise appear to gravitate towards his facade’s kin.

          Gin doesn’t hide his dislike for Nnoitra, and Barragan is unapproachable to begin with due to his own bitterness in being a subordinate to Aizen’s whims. Not likely to enjoy the company of Aizen’s co-commander, then. Yammy isn’t too approachable either, unless he’s being granted permission to wreck a place or person. Aaroniero creeps Gin out, downright, so he’s never spoken to them when alone. Grimmjow’s a loose cannon and Tousen’s already got him handled, so Gin sees no reason to interact. Zommari’s blind loyalty to Aizen and deep disdain towards Shinigami kind of throws a wrench into things, despite him being such a calm and contemplative Espada in comparison to the rowdier ones. Szayelaporro piqued Gin’s interest only briefly; he wanted to betray Aizen, but his intent was too blatantly obvious and his method of doing such was unfortunately ineffective. Unapproachable, ultimately, due to his knack for experimentation reminding Gin too heavily of Mayuri. Gin misses Nel, but also abhors the fact that she’s turned into a drooling screeching child. Even though she can be endearing and has the right idea in mind by aligning swiftly with Ichigo and company, he has a headache.

          Gin understands Harribel’s creed, but in relating to her openly it’d reveal his sentimentality, his connections, his own belief in sacrifice and love. So Gin avoids her less she seeks him out, and in that case he’ll merely smile and sway and do what he does best, till she likely tires of his games and questions prying into her own psyche ... and she dumps some water on him, or something else comical and dismissive. Starrk is typically napping, and knows that Gin can see into his bond with Lilynette the way a predator picks the weakest link instinctively, and therefore likely doesn’t trust Gin near. It’s been deliberately shown that child-like Arrancar tend to distrust Gin due to the murkiness of his intent. Starrk would pick up on that, and they’d both keep their respective distances. Only fair.

          Ulquiorra is the most interesting to Gin, watching the way he wades through humanity and evolves with that subsequent exposure. Ulquiorra doesn’t grow wary of Gin, he’s curious, he engages on his own. So it’s intriguing for Gin, especially if Ulquiorra ever ventures to ask Gin about the finer mannerisms of human emotion, since we know Gin’s excellent with psychoanalyzing people... it’d present him an opportunity to give a blunt rundown, GIN CAN GET POETIC ABOUT FEELINGS, a love-hate relationship in how he regards them, especially connections and the heart / love, within his canon character poems. So he could very well share these insights with Ulquiorra, with of course the joking add-on of ‘but I don’t have emotions so I wouldn’t know that for sure’ coupled with Gin’s classic grin.

          No matter how friendly Gin gets with these creations, he never gets too close. THEY’RE ALL LOYAL TO AIZEN, in one way or another, and if they’re not loyal to Aizen then they’re generally a loose cannon and too chaotic or stupid to interest Gin in the first place; see Nnoitra. Maybe in another life Gin could find himself caring more for some of the Espada, these unique creations and their individual personalities and powerful abilities. IT’S ALL INTERESTING ENOUGH, but Gin’s time in Las Noches isn’t spent wandering the halls in aimless search of a friend. No, he’s shadowing Aizen’s every move. Sleeping when he sleeps  ( or not )  and eating when he eats. Gin has only a set amount of time to try and kill Aizen before Karakura Town’s attacked and absorbed for the raid upon the Soul King’s palace. He can’t become distracted, he can’t miss his opening. Gin knows Aizen will only offer it once, and then never again.

                   For PART II of this headcanon, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into some of the abilities Matsumoto Rangiku’s mother possessed, as well as shed light on a few other Ryukyuan / Okinawan beliefs.  It’s important to understand the historical context of the Ryukyuan Dynasty and belief system in order to blend it seamlessly with an alternative universe where vampires and other supernatural entities exist.  It’s also important to note that while I am pulling inspiration from feudal societies and real world cultures / events, the majority of this information has been condensed and shaped as a means of depicting a fictional world.

                   To better understand the Matsumoto family bloodline and Rangiku’s own spiritual inclinations, one must understand the religion of the Ryukyuan people.  Onarigami  ( おなり神, also written as をなり神 )  is the ancient belief that spiritual power is the domain of women.  Women with exceptionally high spiritual power are called kaminchu  ( 神人. )  The term ‘Noro��� refers to a chief priestess of a community, as mentioned in my first headcanon here.  They are widely thought of as the embodiment of a particular god and therefore hold a SEMI-DIVINE status.  Noro are thought to communicate directly with HEAVEN and that heaven communicated through her. 

                  This context is especially important in a  ( fictional )  world where demons and vampires are present.  In order for darkness to exist, THERE MUST BE LIGHT –––––––- and in this universe, the noro would’ve already been communicating with god, or a higher plane of existence.  While Rangiku herself believes in the existence of a higher power, she also believes that that higher power has turned their back on humanity.  Little does she know that she harbors such DIVINITY deep within her, but that’s a headcanon for another time.

                 While the majority of women in the Matsumoto bloodline were noro and held exceptionally high spiritual power, in ancient times these powers were subdued and not strengthened by magic.  It was only until the fall of this empire that the women who held such powers were forced into hiding, and began to lean heavily on the western world of WITCHCRAFT in order to better protect themselves.  When combining witchcraft with their semi-divine status in society, these women became INTENSELY powerful –––––––- capable of wiping out demonic activity and any evil that they came across with little to no effort.  

                This is what would eventually lead AIZEN SOSUKE to ensure the destruction of the Matsumoto bloodline, along with any other families that harbored such power.  Unfortunately for him, Rangiku would remain the LONE SURVIVOR of such brutality –––––––- however, the ancient rituals and spellwork that had been passed down through generations would be lost as well, leaving Rangiku with little to no understanding as to why a) her family was targeted by such a powerful vampire, and b) why the spell and rune work she practiced came so naturally to her, and complimented her fighting skills as a Hunter in ways she had never seen or experienced before, when watching her mentors train, and hone their own skills.

               IN WESTERN SOCIETIES —- more specifically, in relation to tarot work -— the high priestess is symbolic of the UNCONSCIOUS ; a concern with our internal worlds, spiritual forces, and understanding of higher truths through dreams and intuition.  The high priestess emphasizes the necessity to get in contact with our inner-selves —- to REFLECT and meditate, and to trust our feelings so that our dreams and intuition can guide us.  As a result of the Matsumoto ancestral ties to both witchcraft and divinity, Rangiku possesses one other ability —- which has been both a blessing AND a curse.  ON OCCASION, RANGIKU HAS POWERFUL VISIONS that are capable of knocking her unconscious in broad daylight.  

               While she has learned to sense when a vision is coming and prepare her surroundings accordingly  ( aka BRACE HERSELF FOR THE IMPACT )  the visions themselves are comparable to the night terrors she had as a kid in the canon Bleach universe.  These visions are often related to her family’s demise, and the vengeance she seeks.  As Rangiku finds herself closer to hunting down Aizen Sosuke and his loyal group of followers, the sheer volume and intensity of these visions increase dramatically.

just a tiny headcanon dump , mainly so i have them all in one place / don’t lose them !

first &. foremost  ,  the biggest divergence with my portrayal is very much centered around the manga’s ending. yes , 10 years have still gone by since the war , no ichigo does not decide to settle down and have kids. this is mainly due to my personal comfort , but also ... ichigo CLEARLY has a lot of issues and i personally don’t see him wanting to be a dad despite being great with kids. in this particular verse he’s not married either , single actually , but i suppose plotting could change this ? hmst. his hair is also vastly different !! it’s longer , more like how it was after leaving the dangai. he’s pretty ..... a lot of this is still being hashed out , but i know he still works with rukia , still protects karakura when needed ! big work in progress , please leave a voicemail after the beep.

yes his ears are pierced , Yes his tongue is pierced ! do not ask me when or why he got them , he just does ! he has a double helix  &.  lobe piercing on his right ear. two small black metal hoops  &.  a little black stud to match. 

mentioned above , ichigo unfortunately has a slew of mental illnesses stemming from his time as a shinigami. generalized depression , ptsd , paranoia / issues when it comes to trusting people , survivors guilt in the case of losing his mom , ect. the boy needs fucking THERAPY. in the case of his depression , he’s sadly really good at playing it off / down , keeping a mask in order to be strong &. protect those most dear to him , so when he ultimately breaks , he breaks. 

scars ! we love to see them  &.  boy does ichigo have A LOT of them. i feel like that’s self explanatory at this point , because we’ve all seen how devastating / brutal his fights are.  various burn marks along his arms  &.  hands  ,  large scars from swords across his chest  &.  back  ,  impalement marks just below his shoulders  ,  even phantom pains in his chest from ulquiorra zapping him through. he’s also got numerous scratch scars along his fingers  &.  even on his face ! the most noticeable one is a scar that notches his left eyebrow. his body is ... pretty messed up if i’m being perfectly honest. later on he definitely suffers from joint pains  ,  headaches  ,  you name it. i’m certain he went through physical therapy after his battle with aizen , too  ,  as well as pain management related things.

Fate x Bleach: What if Ichigo became a SERVANT?

Random idea of having Ichigo from Bleach as different Servants from the Fate-Series.

Don’t know that much of either fandom, just going off of what I researched so far with my own creative twist and indulgences.

Backstory

When Kurosaki Ichigo dies, he leaves behind a legend of what he has done in his life. That legend was created at first as a joke from his friends and shinigami, but it spiraled out of control after someone decided to publish a bibliography of his life (the Bleach manga). Somehow, a hard-copy has ended up in the world-of-the-living and found it’s way to a magus’ hand. Said magus thought the book was a relic of an ancient hero and decides to use it as a catalyst for the next Holy Grail War.  

Or, the other option is that Ichigo’s deeds to the Soul Society is more well-known than possible that he became a legend in his own rights. Time in the Soul Society is different than the human world. So when Ichigo’s soul goes to Soul Society, it could have gone to the beginning of it, or just a short while after he has died. None the less, he has gained a reputation from the world of the dead, and by extension the world of the living because shinigami loves to gossip or by other means (see bibliography). Thus, a copy of his soul is sent to the Throne of Heroes.

(The third option is either Zelretch or the Soul King did some meddling, or a combo of both fourth is Alya)

Unfortunately (or fortunately), when people learn about what happened to Ichigo, there is nothing that can be done to stop it. Ichigo is a permanent fixture in the Throne of Heroes.

Summoning

There are a few ways to summon Ichigo as a servant/ally to battle. 

1) Using the Substitute-Shinigami Badge as a catalyst. This will work, but the Ichigo that will appear is as random as using a piece of the Round Table as a catalyst. You don’t know at which point of Ichigo’s life will appear as a servant. It can be one who has first gotten the badge to the one who fought during the Winter War. But it will never be a form that is after the Winter War.

2) The bibliography book (Bleach manga). So, this one is more accurate on what form of Ichigo that will be summoned. As the Badge will bring pre-Fullbringer Ichigo, the book will summon post-Fullbringer Ichigo or any form after that.

3) A container of Strawberries with a shield. This is more of a joke because of the double meaning of Ichigo’s name. You can only use both as one catalyst, since using one or the other will either make another random servant appear or nothing will come. The Ichigo that appears will only come as a Saber or a Shielder, both of those will have weaker stats than Ichigo normally would just because out of spite of your summoning.

4) The other one is using a Hollow mask shard, a piece of a Zanpakuto, or a Quincy weapon. As Ichigo is the perfect combination of the three races at birth, using all of them will be perfectly fine as a means of summoning him. Using all three for one catalyst will bring out Ichigo as a Ruler, but using only one of the three above will appear as Berserker, Alter Ego, Saber, or Archer.

5) The last one is having a tuft of fox fur, or anything relating to the God Inari, with the Substitue-Shinigami Badge or the bibliography book. With the rising popularity of the Kitsune!Ichigo (joke) when he was alive, there was a brief period in time where Ichigo was treated as a God with similar or less standing as God Inari. Thus, Caster is born as Ichigo with Kitsune traits mixed in with his own.

Classes

As hinted before in ‘Summoning’, there are multiple forms in which Ichigo can be summoned as. The ones that can be summoned in the Grail War are going to be mentioned first, then the ones that would appear in Grand Order. In every Grail War, only one Ichigo can be summoned if he is dead. IF Ichigo is alive during a Grail War, then he is transformed as a pesudo-servant.

Whatever ‘Ichigo’ is summoned, they will have the trait of ‘Strawberry Protector’. Also, any master that summons him is under his influence, there is no going back from this besides ultimate betrayal. When you are in this influence he considers you as ‘someone to protect’, thus he goes all out in battle just for you to be safe. Otherwise, if he has no one but himself, he only fights at 75%.

Grail War

1) Saber (pre-Fullbringer): Saber is like the ‘Lily’ of the other form of Saber. This Saber is more head-strong and rushes into battle without a plan more ofter than not. As long as he can ‘protect’ his master, he will fight anyone in his path unless if they explicitly say they want to be an ally with his master. Think of how Ichigo is during all of the fights and battles leading up to the final fight against Aizen before Ichigo loses his shinigami powers and that is the personality and strength of him. His stats are a combination of his human ones and his Shinigami’s because of how hard it is to balance out his powers.

1.5) Saber (post-Fullbringer): The true form of Saber; the one who has grown through countless of battles into the war-hardened person today. This Saber has gone through countless of battles against Aizen, his army, and then some that makes him into the person he is now. Because of his unique birth, this person has gotten to experience all three parts of his heritage as well as the unique ones that are developed through special circumstances.  However, he has yet to unlock his true powers that is hinted in the Quincy War (True!Bankai).

-If Humans, Shinigami, and Hollows are the primary colors, and Quincies, Vizords, and Fullbringers are the secondary colors. Then Saber is the rainbow, the one who can and has experienced all in one body.

2) Berserker: ((Forgot the Description earlier)) If Ichigo has gotten consumed by his Hollow after receiving his Shinigami powers. Another possibility if Ichigo dies in Hueco Mundo while the rescue for Orihime went wrong (terribly so). During his fight with Ulquiorra Cifer, Ichigo was fatally wounded in his full Hollow form which gave the perfect opportunity for his inner Hollow to devour most of him. Orihime was able to heal him, but the damage to the soul was irreversible, leaving him more Hollow than Human. Being stuck in Vasto Lorde permanently allows Berserker great power, but less control of his own sanity at times. Though he stays true to his namesake to prevent him from becoming an insane beast. Berserker is able to comprehend speech, but he is only able to perform a similar speech pattern as to another Berserker of short words and phrases to convey what he means. However, most of the time will find him saying the word ‘protect’. When he does, it is advised to calm him down or find something for him to decimate; or he will go on a mad frenzy that is nearly impossible to stop until it’s over.

3) Archer: A possible life that Ichigo could have been if he was raised as a Quincy instead of being thrusted into the world of Shinigami. Archer is more ruthless than his Saber counter-parts because of Quincy ideology, but the weaker class (even with class advantage). Not much is known about Archer’s backstory because of the lack of known Quincies are outclassed by Hollows and Shinigami. So instead, Archer is modeled after a well-known Quincy(Ishida Uryuu) in the bibliography book and combined with Ichigo’s personality and open-mind.

Archer manipulates this further by fortifying it with his high levels of reiatsu. He then turns the crosses into ‘arrows’ that fire beams of light to his opponents. Almost impossible to dodge unless if you have extremely high speed or endurance on you (rank A or above).

2.5) Alter-Ego (Hollow Ichigo/Shiro): No one knows how Alter-Ego gained his own body since he is originally a part of Ichigo. He represents all of the darkness in Ichigo in the form of an Arrancar looking Hollow, yet different. If Ichigo sacrifices all to protect others, Alter-Ego will do everything in his power to protect only Ichigo (or the master who summoned him) for he is the ‘horse’ to his ‘king’ and won’t let anyone else control him.

3) Caster (Ichigo summoned with Inari): A ‘what if Ichigo became a special attacker instead of a physical fighter’. No, this is Inari who is able to be summoned in special Grail Wars like this one. Instead it is a combination of the two. This is Ichigo, who has been blessed to become a Kitsune after his fight with Aizen in the Winter War (or even before that) by Inari. Inari became intrigued with this person and decides to follow this hybrid around with useful tips. After the final battle, Inari saw how depressed Ichigo became and turned him into his Kitsune disciple/underling in hope of cheering him up. Instead it backfires with Ichigo becoming a possible vessel of Inari if the god ever wishes, which the god doesn’t. Even death won’t separate Inari from this new kit, luckily with Ichigo becoming a Heroic Spirit, that will not be a problem. ((Kitsugeddon was fun to read))

4) Ruler (Ichigo summoned in his Mugetsu Form): Ichigo that had died a strange death that let him keep most of his memories and has been trained as a Royal Guard and a Zero Division member. It is unknown when Ruler died in comparison to the bibliography because even he doesn’t really remember when he died. After his death, Ruler has been taken to the Soul King’s Palace then appointed as a Royal Guard immediately after. Through the accelerated pace in his learning, Ruler learned about his own being and heritage early on. This in turn allowed him to accept everything about him early on and permanently change him to Mugetsu. When the Soul King found out, he then appoints Ruler as a special member in his court that allows Ruler to judge the realms where souls live with unclouded eyes. Ruler’s own death happened as he killed the Quincy King before he could kill the Soul King by using himself as the shield and sword to kill the major threat.

-(Trivia #1): Let it be noted that Ruler’s mannerisms is different to the older Shinigami compared to the rest, if ever encountered that is. It’s almost like he dislikes the older shinigami for not acting in a more dignified matter to protect spirits.

-(Trivia #2) The man is tired of the fighting for the balance, he has seen all of what life could bring and there are a few things that can make him show emotion. Ruler continues to fight for those close to him like all other ‘Ichigo’s. As a Ruler, he doesn’t have a wish for the Grail. But if he was given a chance, he would probably wish for peace in the soul realm so that he won’t fight anymore and his precious people are safe.

Noble Phantasm (Buster): Final Getsuga Tenshou - The last Getsuga Tenshou that can be learned. A move used to defeat a mad man (Aizen) from a different reality. This move is known as the Trump card and Last Resort. If trained improperly, then the user will experience a serious backlash with possible death. Ruler knows how to properly use this and will only get exhausted for a while after using this.

5) Foreigner: Not much is known about Foreigner from the bibliography or the Throne of Heroes at the moment. The reason for this is because Foreigner’s true powers have yet to be discovered as some parts of the bibliography is being recovered after an ‘unfortunate accident’. All that is known at the moment is that this Ichigo is said to match wannabe gods and transcendences with unparalleled power. This is the person that could beat Ywatch if his Quincy powers weren’t taken away in the beginning of that battle.

Unique Skills

Shunpo: After learning the secret Shinigami speed technique from the proclaimed ‘Flash Goddess’ Yourichi, Ichigo can do fast burst of speed that will raise his Agility up a rank. The only fall back to this is that it uses a part of his mana and his master’s mana to do, so he tries to save this for battles or in times of need.

Bankai: The ability to transform into a greater form. All Shinigami posses a Bankai form after learning of their own Zanpakuto. Ichigo’s own Bankai ability lets him have enhanced strength and endurance during the fight as well as letting him release his Noble Phantasm to its a greater potential. This works similar to Independent Action and Imperial Privilege, but the down side is that his Master will be stun for a while after Ichigo activates Bankai because of the strain. Leaving them vulnerable to enemy attacks if they aren’t protected.

    -The strain can be eliminated if the Master has strong magical energy, or if Ichigo is summoned as the Other Saber form, Ruler or Alter-Ego.

Unity in One: An ability that symbolize people who come from mixed races and have a perfect balance of abilities and knowledge from all they are affiliated with. As rare as the birth of a new star in a universe, those that are fortunate enough to have this skill will have momentous advantage when they need and create new abilities that are unique to those that are like their own mix-race species. A drawback to this is that it takes x1.25 as much mana to use one of the unique abilities because of the unknown output of how much an ability like that would be from a native race like that. (Though this drawback can be temporarily disabled if the person has the means to do so.)

     -For Ichigo, this means that his Shinigami, Hollow, and Quincy powers are in perfect harmony with each other. Instead of destroying him, they further enhance his own body and spirit to be a super human. Enhancing his stats in battle farther, giving him the chance to make a new move by combining skills from two or all three of the races that are part of him. (i.e: A cero that is weaved together with a high level kido that will not take from Ichigo’s or his master’s magical reserves, but from the surrounding magic in the area.)

The Power to Protect: Ichigo’s unique skill that works like Bankai, but removes the drawbacks Bankai would normally have. Also gives the user the ability to survive a fatal blow.

Pioneer of the Spirits: A skill that is similar to ‘Pioneer of Stars’, but for spirits. These are spirits that have changed Soul Society into progression for better or worse. The main candidates that would apply to this besides Ichigo would be the Soul King, Aizen, Kisuke, among others “that became a turning point in human (spirits) history”.

Hollow’s Hunger: Hollows are beings of instinct who lives in the lands of ‘Survival of the Fittest’. Ichigo’s own Hollow is a reflection of himself, all of his unacknowledged traits that he hates. To not be forgotten, the Hollow continuously challenges Ichigo to strengthen him so that he can triumph over death before defeating his enemies. This gives Berserker the ability to heal some damage taken to him and to survive a fatal-blow by coming back at the enemy with more vigor

    - Because he is still alive and does not know how his instincts works, it is lower than other Hollow’s of his status, but isn’t lower than a Vasto Lorde. 

Quincy’s Legacy: As one of the last members of the race known as Quinces, any and all knowledge of their culture has been passed down from generation to generation. This knowledge gives Quincies a tactical mind that is unparalleled to any human today. The Quincy that has learned of their culture turns it into a weapon to assist them in combat, making them a wise strategist that grows with experience in battle.  

Protection from the End of the Worlds: A skill that represents that this person has the most chance of survival from the World’s End because they are given protection from it. Inoue Orihime blessed Ichigo with this skill upon her death once upon a time. She put her very being into this as a means to ‘reject’ the very idea that Ichigo should die in the time where the war raged on for too long. Because Inoue Orihime put her very self into casting this last move, Ichigo can access his Noble Phantasm faster and is considered invincible for a short amount of time. ((This skill by any way, shape, or form is suppose to represent any ships. It is just a what if world’s skill that Orihime can do for anyone of her friends))

Kitsune’s Fire: Inari’s special skill. This allows one to make illusions around themselves and create a mythical fire that can burn at will. (Side effects may include a skulk/earth of foxes, the ability to understand foxes, a sudden group of followers devoted to worship you, or a never ending flame that can’t go out unless if caster allows it)

God’s Protection: A skill that works like Imperial Privilege and Independent Action. This skill allows Ichigo to wander off on his own and not get damaged as easily, increases his vitality, and prevents him from most ailments against him. This skill is mainly created because of Inari’s jealousy of Archer (Orion and Artemis)’s unique combo. A jealous fox is a cunning fox after all. (-Honestly, why isn’t this just Independent Action instead?-)

Soul King’s Blessing: An enchantment that the Soul King places on a select few in his royal court. Those that are blessed notice that they stronger, more resistant to ailments, and their own weapon(s) and moves have a coating of reiatsu that is a mix of their own and presumably the Soul King’s. This blessing can be activated willingly.

Well that is that, might do more head canons in the future because I love how the Fate Grand/Order community is full of shenanigans when you aren’t saving the world.

topic: relationship with other espada!

I feel like a lot of this is subject to change, depending ondevelopments between other people’s interpretations of the characters, butbased on my own understanding of themand of Ulquiorra pre-death,,,, uhhhhh,,,,,,,,,,,

Ulquiorra was never one to get particularly close to anyone,and his fellow Espada were no exception ot this. Aside from any missions where hemight be paired up with them, or the meetings Aizen was so often fond ofholding, he never went out of his way to spend any amount of time with them. At first glance it could be seen ashim simply preferring solitude or outright detesting his brethren, but reallyhe just failed to see the point in their company. They were a people born froma race of monsters, built up into soldiers with the sole purpose of living anddying for their creator. Forming unnecessary attachments to each other couldprove to be counterproductive to that purpose.

Under cut because this is like, 1,000 words.

Let’s start with number 10 (or zero, if you prefer). I wrotea headcanon about that already, but to sum up; with Yammy, Ulquiorra was moreor less forced into a big brother role for him courtesy of Aizen. His cool andaloof demeanor tempered out Yammy’s more fiery and volatile one in an effort tomake the big oaf more controllable. After finding out about Yammy’s death,Ulquiorra isn’t quite sure just how he feels about it. During his time spent ashis retainer, he didn’t particularly care for him on a personal/familial level;he was just performing another duty. If a part of him actually feels sorrow athis loss or misses him in any way, (or perhaps just misses having thatresponsibility over something so his life could have more of a purpose) hehonestly isn’t able to tell.

With number 9, Aaroniero, he understood him to be someonethat had proven his skill and worth enough for Aizen to consider him on thesame level as the Espada, and that alone was enough for Ulquiorra to at leastrespect him. His abilities were incredibly useful, particularly his CognitionSynchronization, which Ulquiorra saw as a more immediate and wider rangeversion of his own Solita Visa. Outside of that usefulness, however, he did notparticularly care for him.

For Szayel Aporro, number 8, his opinion on him was rathersimilar. He understood the usefulness and practicality of his skills andabilities, he respected his intelligence, and that was about as far as thepositive side of his opinion went. As a person, Ulquiorra was less thanimpressed. He found his narcissism and flamboyant behaviors completelyunfounded and unwarranted. Yes, he was capable, and yes, he was clever andcunning, but he was still only the Octava. He was far from a “perfect being,”as he so called himself.

Initially, Ulquiorra was under the impression that Zommariwas much like himself – at least personality-wise. However, he found his self-righteousnessand overzealousness to be a bit disappointing. (Is that hypocritical of him?Perhaps, but Ulquiorra’s is a bit more understated.) While Zommari’s speed athis power level was certainly an admirable feat, that was about as far as thepositive went for him. Otherwise, he was just as content as Zommari was to keepa quiet distance from him.

As for number 6, Grimmjow, oh boy. Ulquiorra could not evenremotely understand why Grimmjow insisted on his rebellious behavior. He wasgiven this power, this chance to lead and prove himself by Aizen, and he still fought against him (even if it wasonly in the smallest of ways). Why spit in the face of the one who granted yousuch a gift? Still, even with the blatant disrespect he had towards Aizen,there was certainly a reason he was kept around and not just cut down at thefirst sign of defiance. Insufferable as he was (though Ulquiorra would be moreinclined to call him disappointing) he could still be considered a valuableasset to the cause. He was a powerhouse in his own right, ruthless, and wasapparently capable of instilling some form of loyalty in a handful of lesserhollows (even if he did ultimately lead them to their destruction); Ulquiorrajust could never be sure if that was enough proof of his worthiness to serveAizen. That they had such differing opinions on how to go about fulfillingAizen’s orders was also cause for a lot of strife. There was always a subtlecompetitiveness behind it, one that Ulquiorra would insist was completelyone-sided.

Nnoitra wasn’t one he was particularly fond of, either. Atleast with Grimmjow, there was a mutual distance kept between them outside ofthe gatherings forced upon them so as not to constantly grate on each other’s nerves, but Nnoitra was adifferent story. He spoke far too casually to him for Ulquiorra’s liking, andin every (very unwanted) interaction there was always an underlying attempt toget under his skin. Not to mention the mundane and base topics he so eagerlywished to badger him with weren’t something he had any interest in talkingabout, let alone with him.

Harribel was one he respected not only for her strength inpower and ability, but in personality as well. She was mostly quiet, yetsevere; her presence was still one that demanded respect. Her solemn attitudewas one he could understand and relate to quite well. What he could notunderstand was the Fraccion she kept with her – protected, even. He failed to see how they were deserving of thatloyalty when they were so brash, so weak, so much… less.

He had been told that Barragan was a king long before Aizencame and took the throne right out from under him. Isolated as he was in hiscrystalline prison, he had no prior knowledge of this fact, but judging by thedepth of his power alone he could tell there must have been some truth to it. Howunfortunate it was then that he was clearly not powerful enough to have keptthat throne. Still, bringing that up would prove unnecessarily fatal (and thuscounterproductive), so he never spoke much to him.

Coyote, and by extension Lilynette, were a curious pair, hethought. Theirs was a bond and ability he had not previously thought possiblefor hollows, and as strong as they were, he could not really fathom theirdesire for companionship. While they had felt loneliness, been consumed bytheir solitude, he had felt nothing of the sort during his own isolation. Andif he did, it wasn’t something he was able to identify as loneliness at thetime. Companions were liabilities, distractions, and weaknesses.

THE HISTORY OF THE OMEGA FIST TOURNAMENT

With the OFT 4 coming very soon it was best to look back at the crazy, intense, and epic Facebook Fantasy Fighting tournament.

THE ORIGINAL OMEGA FIST TOURNAMENT

The first OFT (with the help of A.C.M.G. member Quincy M. Price) was put together using fighting game characters to see if the members of ACMG would be interested in seeing who they believed was the number one character of all of the tournament. Fighters from some of the most popular games in history such as STREET FIGHTER, FATAL FURY, TEKKEN, MORTAL KOMBAT to name a few were paired in a fantasy fighting match up. Members of A.C.M.G. voted democratically to see who they thought was the more dominant combatant.

When it came to the FINAL FIST ROUND it came down to legendary characters RYU and the EMPEROR SHAO KAHN.

The votes were in and the results was unanimous. RYU was our first ever OMEGA FIST CHAMPION.

A NEW CONTEST IS BORN IN THE FORM OF OFT II

With the success of the first tournament, it allowed me to make an attempt to really step it up. Making it into something that members of the group would really want to jump on. The one thing that people love to do is discuss and/or debate on who they believe is the best. People also like it even more when they can convince people of what they believe is true.

This gave me the idea to make a contest out of the concept giving contestants a chance to debate and campaign their picks to see who in fact the members of .A.C.M.G. felt was a dominant team. YES! This time I up’d the stipulation with a TAG TEAM BATTLE which this time was based on US Comic Book characters. Contestant would have the chance to pick two characters with a few rules. The winner of this tournament would win an assortment of prizes from VIEW FINDERS I.S.A.D. (vfisad.com) and former sponsors PRINTHEADZ: Custom Prints and Design who provided a CHAMPIONSHIP package (A T-shirt, Mug, and Mouse pad designed by VIEW FINDERS I.S.A.D.)

The match making for the tournament was quite a challenge as I had to make sure that fantasy fights were fair and balance at the beginning. It was very important to give everyone a chance to make it. Now granted their pics are their own so if they pick a character that may be considered weak to the rest that is the gamble that they make. The other important thing to note is that none of the contestants know what the other contestant has picked for as their chosen characters in the tournament until the very moment they compete. 

There were some real intense battles with some real power players. There were also some “interesting” picks like former member Compound Fracture (origin or such a name is unknown in the world of Goggle other than the definition) who chose Thanos and Megatron (which I can see why he chose the two).

But a REALLY interesting pick goes to one Robert Wilson who went with the fun picks of War Machine Vs. Justin Hammer (seriously he even made a campaign video for the OFT II hyping the arrival of Justin Hammer).

The battle went back and forth with fun (and sometimes intense) debating that led to the FINAL FIST ROUND (a Triple threat final round consisting of three teams due to the number of contestants that participated that year) which became a very EPIC and controversial conclusion.

The EPIC Battle!

After an epic debate in a triple treat battle between the teams of Quincy Price (representing King Thor and Darkseid), Nate Drowell (representing Franklin Richards and Prof. Zoom), and Randy Green (representing Superman and Dr. Fate) the members of A.C.M.G.

The battle throughout the day went back and forth. Every hour one tied while the other superseded in votes.

By the end of the time limit there was a very interesting development that occur for the first time in OFT HISTORY.

The result of the count turned out to be a tie between Quincy Price’s team and Nate Drowell’s. Randy Green had the lowest amount eliminating him from the TRIPLE FIST FINAL ROUND.

In the event that there was a tie I would step in to make the final vote (something that I didn’t want to do at all). Consequently I had to do much extensive research on the two teams to see who I thought was in fact the more dominant team. NOTE: This actually would not be a tie if not for a member of the group playing around with their vote. The rules were said that if you make a vote you have to explain why they thought that team was the most dominant team of that match up and they had to do so before the 12 hour time limit. Here’s what went down as explained in last year’s post: LAYING DOWN THE LAWS OF THE OMEGA FIST

“If you read the previous results of the OFT first round eliminations we discovered that voting was becoming unjust. Members were voting for the more popular vote of characters they may have seen on TV or movies (e.g. Superman) or because they knew a person who was a contestant in the tournament which means that they are not voting for a character particular which I found to be unfair, unethical, and irresponsible on the part of some voters.

A rule was then added to assure that people would be legit and valid reasons as to why they are voting for the characters chosen by the contestant. This not only met with fair results, but it also educated others (myself included) to characters that we never had the chance to invest in.

Again, make sure your vote count.

Unfortunately that was not the case for one of the members as he decided to play around and not make a valid call. Some of the members didn’t understand what he was saying or doing as he posted pics of Rey Mysterio Jr. from the WWE and reciting remix versions of the song in relation to the Thanos and Thor. It came off convoluted in translation and didn’t make too much sense.

As a result of counting the votes two times to make sure that it was indeed a tie which means I have to read all 144 comments that was on that post.”

And at the end of the day, I made my decision and we had a winner.

Also this year we now have a OFT committee which now consist of myself, former competitors Mike Jones, co-host of TALK TIME LIVE Lou Johnson, and 2015 OFT CHAMPION Quincy M. Price. We will be handling the judgement and order of the tournament to continue to strength and integrity of the OMEGA FIST TOURNAMENT. Everyone was excited about OFT3. EVERYBODY.

SPECIAL GUEST: THE WORLD WARRIOR

To top all of this great chaos TALK TIME LIVE had the opportunity to talk with none other than Kyle Hebert himself. Known for voicing many great characters in anime (Gohan, Kiba from Naruto, Captain Aizen, and more), he is also the voice of the iconic Street Fighter character RYU (also the the character to be voted as first ever OMEGA FIST CHAMPION).

In this very fun interview he not only talked about STREET FIGHTER V (newly released at the time before the Story Mode) but he also gave best wishes to all of the contests of the SFV EDITION of the OFT3 and provided us with a greetings soundbite for the OFT 3 highlight podcast. EPIC!!!

The WATCHERS of the OMEGA:

A lot of close calls throughout the tournament but this time we enlisted A.C.M.G. member who were willing to oversee the tournament and make sure that no controversy would take place and we get a sure winner to each match and the contest. ENTER the “WATCHERS of the OMEGA” a select group that will no doubt keep watch, interject if needed, and determine a winner if in the event of a tie. This group consisting of Mike Jones, the First ever contest OFT CHAMPION Quincy Price, and COSMIC Lou Johnson did a phenomenal job covering the tournament.

ONE SHALL STAND, MANY SHALL FALL:

Many great battles in this tournament including the rematch of now TALK TIME LIVE co-host Robert A. Moore and A.C.M.G. favorite Dennis Glover.

Each battle provided a lot of critical thinking and opportunity to learn more about the characters chosen by our 16 contestant. Those who participated like the McKinnon Bros (Travis and Elisha) who said they almost lost it waiting to see if they won their match ups. As always the tournament would start at noon. The first rounds of the tournament is always interesting as the contestant know who they would be facing but do not know what characters they have chosen which creates a lot of eagerness, pressure, and anticipation. If they survive the first rounds then they can soon strategize on how to compete with the next competitors hopefully making it to the final fist round.

Many great battles in this tournament including the rematch of Nate Drowell and A.C.M.G. favorite Dennis Glover.

WHO BECAME THE WINNER OF THE OFT3?

The OFT3 was a much better contest with honorable contestants looking to have a great debate over their favorite fandom. Each contestant performed greatly as they campaigned to the voting members of A.C.M.G. as to why there chosen character team is in fact the most dominant of the 16 in the OFT. When it was all said and done there was only ONE LONE DOMINANT CHAMPION, and his name was………..

Robert Moore became the 3rd annual OFT CHAMPION (and the second contest winner) with his team of Doomsday, Superboy Prime, and Mobius.

His match up against A.C.M.G. member JAY PAT (who also competed in the OFT3 SFV Tournament) was as epic as you could get. Had Jay or Robert won the FINAL FIST ROUND he would have made legendary status with the OFT if he had the chance to win both tournaments.

However the votes were in and the member’s votes heavily favored Robert’s team.

Robert’s team was awarded the pretigious OFT3 title belts and Robert was awarded his customary OFT3 CHAMPION T-shirt along with the card battle box set courtesy of HACK and SLASH GAMES.

THE EPIC WIN IN THE OFT3 SFV EDITIONS WENT TOO……………..

The video game tournament portion of OFT was no cake walk as contestants were very much skilled and ready to compete for the bragging rights and a $100 PSN credit and a STREET FIGHTER Encyclopedia courtesy of VIEW FINDERS I.S.A.D. along with a chance to head to J1-CON 2015.

For three weeks they competing in some very hard hitting fights especially with the McKinnon Bros debuting into OFT and A.C.M.G.

At the end it came down to FINAL FIST ROUND finalist Jay Pat versus A.C.M.G. moderator and co-host of TALK TIME LIVE Andre Stokes. NOTE: Since Andre was heavily affiliated with A.C.M.G. the deal was that if he won he would give half of his PSN credit to the MVP of his choice in the SFV Tournament. There battle was hard and epic as the two went back and forth. But the question is who won? Here is the video of that final match up.

So in essense the OMEGA FIST TOURNAMENT 3 was a complete success without any form of controversy.

The big question is, HOW THE HELL DO WE TOP ALL OF THIS?!!!! Believe it on not, we have…………….

This year we have upped the anti in the biggest way we know how. Part of our tradition is that we create a custom title belt which is worn to the winning team’s characters. Well this year we not only are gonna make that happen with this new designed OFT4 title.

This year, the OMEGA FIST TOURNAMENT just got REAL!!

Just like last year all of the contestants of the main tournament will be provided with a starter pack of OPHIDIAN game cards and for the first time each contestant of the main tournament will be provided with the signature OFT4 t-shirt courtesy of InksterPrints Custom T-Shirts in South St. Philadelphia

and much like last year we will have a video game tournament which we renamed:

This year we have added a new stipulation to the video game portion of the tournament. Not only will the contestants compete in STREET FIGHTER V

But they will also compete and this year’s BIGGEST FIGHTING GAME hits! INJUSTICE 2 and TEKKEN 7

This year we not only will be providing a $100 PSN credit to the winner, but A.C.M.G. members and world traveling entertainer & magician RAN’D SHINE will add another $100 credit courtesy of Randy Shine Entertainment. There may possibly be a an extra prize which is TBD. So this year’s OFT4 is nothing short of EPIC!!! The MONTH of OMEGA this year will fall upon the AUGUST. Are you ready?!!
