#but also a lot of the bad writing in this game has been present in every game before it. so....

Hellooo! I recently played your game and goodness it was a experience! Honestly the whole circus genre isnât a favorite of mine but your visual novel just charmed me!
If you have time or want to answer my questions, I hope my ramblings arenât too much đ€§
Harlequinâs story intrigued me greatly! The poor angel though. Speaking of which, how would Pierrot or Harlequin react to the MCâs name being literally Angel? Unsure if the title of the Angel is symbolic or not. Or even better, if MCâs name is literally Columbina? MC must have some weird backstory for why their parents named them that.
How would the cast react to MC being neurodivergent? Like having autism or ADHD(Attentive or inattentive)? I know the circus has been around for a long time and have adapted to modern society and technology. But I imagine they still have a bit of old souls in them, so would they be unsure how to respond to MCâs neurodivergence? Ex. MC avoiding eye contact or not picking up any social ques, overlay express or not expressive enough, unintentionally getting distracted in conversations, or MC passionately infodumping to Pierrot about their hyperfixation?
What if the MC had a sexuality thatâs impossible for them to fall for Pierrot or Harlequin? Like theyâre AroAce or lesbian. Would that change any of their minds?
Kinda a sensitive topic, and it may be uncomfortable to answer, if you donât want to answer thatâs alright! But what if the MC had some bad experiences/trauma in the past that relates to anything sexual, and anything sexual or too intimately seductive may disgust them or make them uncomfortable in the present? Once Pierrot or Harlequin figure that out(somehow) would they straight up abandon that behavior to make MC more comfortable or hold back a bit?
Reaction to deaf or mute MC?
Is it possible to get the Harlequin himself jealous?
Questions for YOU! Who is your favorite character in this dating sim? Demo and/or future characters? And who is most fun to write? And the most important question of all, favorite carnival snack?
Thank you so much! I'm glad to know that even if you're not into the theme, my game still managed to catch your attention!
They wouldn't be bothered by the word angel. But Columbina would be something too specific theyâd find it strange and would become very curious and intrigued by it.
Yes, they are a bit old-fashioned, but they're incredibly observant. Pierrot would notice certain things very quickly and would soon understand the situation enough to keep interacting with MC in the best way possible.
Pierrot wouldnât be able to stop feeling, even if MC didnât reciprocate.
He would learn to hold back maybe avoiding too much physical contact if he started to lose control, so as not to scare MC. Arlequim would have a harder time with that. Heâd insist a bit more, but if that didnât work, heâd change his approach.
Pierrot would learn sign language. Just seeing MC using it would be enough for him to pick up a lot in a short time.
Thatâs an unusual question! Yes, he does feel jealous though heâs very good at hiding it most of the time.
Oh! This is the first time the question is actually directed at me! haha. Iâm honestly unable to pick a favorite at this point. I get too involved with each of their stories and end up loving all of them. Pierrot and Arlequim are really fun to write when they interact with each other itâs like the atmosphere around them is about to explode! Though Jester and the Ticket Takerâs dynamic is also quite interesting.
Iâd definitely go for the candy apple! Now Iâm curious, what would you choose, anon?

everyone keeps saying revan is dead but thats my friend revan from tumblr hes clearly alive. or they???
my characters ass is distractingly present onscreen
huge fan of the way everyone collapsed drunk what the FUCK was in that wine
ok these sith ppl might be the bad guys but their armour is DRIPPY AS FUCK

SESSION 2
i paid ÂŁ1.19 to see revan he better show up in this game at some point
all these sith n i still cant find one revanâŠ.. stop faking ur death rn come out n talk to me babygirl this isnt like uâŠ.
why can i be light/dark side if im not a jedi. give me a laser sword
maybe this jedi gyal will know where revan is faking his death. or give me a fuckin lightsaber PLEASEEE
was just thinking 'does this game have romance' and then carth called me beautiful. i dont think im gonna romance anyone until i get this amnesia sorted
why is carth questioning me so much abt the crash im pretty sure i have amnesia
why tf did the jedi lady have me transferred to this ship are we in lesbians with each other???
carth's not wrong it is suspicious but i lowkey have amnesia so i coulda done that i coulda not

im intrigued i like this whole hidden jedi shtick its very compelling. so is whatever theyre hiding from me
kinda surprising no jedi found me before tho given my force juju is so strong
IM A LEGIT JEDI NOW??? SICK!!!
does revan rlly not have pronouns i thought that was a tumblr thing but they straight up are a nonbinary icon ive never heard a single pronoun used. revan's pronouns are revan/revan's
damn revan seems so cool in these stories (charismatic war hero that convinced their troops to join them as conqueror?? julius caesar) and yet all we've seen them do onscreen is get blown up and die by accident
A YEAR AGO? the way they were talking i assumed revan died like. a week before the game started
master uh i forgot his name he has martin scorcese vibes said revan was a paragon of the jedi so what im getting is that all jedi gifted kids turn evil
even if i didnt know revan as a tumblr darling id KNOW revan has to be alive somewhere they way everyone talks abt them is too cool for a character who exploded and died. i think. i hope. I PAID ÂŁ1.19 TO MEET REVAN
'only you and bastila can stop malak' seriously????? just us two?? ive been a jedi for like, 6 minutes and you guys keep calling bastila young???? do you guys not wanna help??
omg im getting carth to traumadump! <3

OGH!!! I HAVE A LIGHTSABER!!!! THIS IS GAME OF THE YEAR!!!!
omg i made my lightsaber perfectlyyy which is rare <3 getting a good grade in jedi
maybe i was a travelling lightsaber salesman before my amnesia
seriously though WHO was i everyone's kinda stopped acting like i have amnesia since the first mission BUT IVE PLAYED DRAGON AGE THAT GIVES YOU OPPORTUNITIES TO RP UR PAST. THIS DOESNT. EITHER THIS GAME IS BAD (but i love it so its not) OR I HAVE RETROGRADE AMNESIA
also everyone keeps being like "Oh ur force juju is so strong" AND NOBODY FOUND ME TIL NOW??? suspicious. did getting a really bad concussion activate the force in me
im too confused and amnesiac'd to think abt anything except the fact i have a glowing stick now
FSESH FIVE:
big fan of using aliens to avoid having to get VAs to read every line
oh so carth's boyfriend saul betrayed him and became leader of the sith fleet so he has trust issues
well he needs to calm down. i can't betray him cause i dont know what the fuck is happening
yooo i love the design differences on the mandalorians
oh my god this lady wanted to fuck her droid cause it was her husband's. and then it killed itself. wtf. game of the year tho
wtf they jebaited this juhani person into going dark side but then i talked her out of it. that seems a bit mean of them
i hope she can join my party she looks too unique to be a random npc
ive been thinking and I might be going crazy but there was a loading screen tip ages ago that said jedis could wipe ppl's mind and all i thought at the time was 'fuck the shitshow acolyte didnt make that up'. but what if one of them wiped MY memory and i used to be a jedi or smthn ????????
cause they keep being like ur weirdly good at this??? did bastila steal my memories??????????
I KNOW I HAVE AMNESIA!! EVEN IF EVERYONE DOESN'T BRING IT UP BC THEYRE PROBABLY TRYING TO SAVE MY FEELINGS
if i dont have amnesia and im just deeping the fact the opening had my life being mansplained then im gonna look real stupid
anyway time 2 go to the fuckshit ruins cave where r-dog and malak went to
"it must be referring to revan. the dark lord and malak--" revan's pronouns are revan/thedarklord
bastila said theres no mention of the Builders in the archives. does she just know every text off by heart
THIS DROID IS 20K YEARS OLD ???
omg i can equip 2 lightsabers at once. game of the year
OK I TAKE BACK EVERYTHING I SAID ABOUT THE AMNESIA BASTILA IS ASKING ME QUESTIONS ABOUT MY BACKGROUND THAT I CAN ANSWER. I REPEAT I DO NOT HAVE AMNESIA
ok i didnt get choices and i didnt really uh⊠say anything that i didnt already get told im still not ruling out amnesia
also booo i didnt get to find out how old i was
master tortimer rlly looks like the ultimate ketamine yoda
LMAO THERE WAS A DIALOGUE OPTION 2 CALL JUHANI A CATGIRL
omg kashyyk from jedi fallen order!!!
I CAN UPGRADE MY LIGHTSABER THIS IS JUST LIKE JFO
omg this ship is fun i wish everyone had personalised bunk spaces like hfw⊠a game which came out 19 years after this i should probably just take what we have
im gonna start w manaan cause im p sure thats what B-dog said n its the same language the droid was speakin

am i having dreams abt revan bc bastila killed revan and im connected to her this is so roundabout
maybe i'd sleep better if my ponytail wasnt clipping into the pillow
[kiwi accent] six
carth needs a xanax every time i think we're friends he stops trusting me
also lmao he actually pointed out how wild it was that a day one padawan is being sent on this uber important mission and HES RIGHT IT IS WEIRD!! i thought it was main character logic but he's calling it out
i really really like the sense of unease that's setting in like at first i thought it was just cause im not used to 2003 games but no this is on purpose bc carth my friend carth keeps calling it out
THERE IS A CHILD ON MY SHIP ??????????????????
lmao the representative for menaan is roland wann. its like poetry it rhymes
there are no cameras in the sith hangar <3 rookie error i can commit crimes now
bastila's favourite hobby is getting shot and walking into my grenades
this isnt a combat system this is a missing system
I GOT ARRESTED???? IM JUST A GIRL

MALAK FIRED ON REVAN?????? WERENT THEY BEST FRIENDS???????
but maybe revan escaped when bastila wasnt looking THEYRE FINE THEYRE OUT THERE SOMEWHERE. I BELIEVE
so hopefully when we run into revan they'll be like agh i changed my ways cause of the being shot thing and they'll be my bestie
great news i successfully communicated w the ship child and gave her back to dantooine. my girl has shockingly good linguisitics skills
bastila is so dour "oh watch out for the dark side" GIRL I AM. I NEED TO GET THE BEST GRADE IN GAME MORALITY

The "Infinity War" shit has been my biggest pet peeve FOR REAL, thank you for mentioning that. Bungie NEVER mentioned Infinity War as an inspiration for Lightfall. This was invented by fans, mostly on twitter, and it was parroted the most by Destiny Bulletin and similar "outlets" that are just straight up often posting the most randomest shit. And then everyone started saying that Lightfall "did its Infinity War moment badly." They never tried having an Infinity War moment.
For the record, devs mentioned a lot of movie inspirations for Lightfall in an interview and Infinity War was not one of them, because it wasn't an inspiration and Lightfall was not meant to be a shitty MCU copy.
"As we started getting towards Lightfall, we said, 'Hey, how can we keep the stakes high but change the mood for a release?'" Blackburn continued. "We looked at things like The Empire Strikes Back, that has a feeling of, oh, my gosh, [the heroes] lose, but the movie doesn't feel like they lose the whole time. We started to look at, okay, what are things with really high stakes that have a different tone to them? I think we got really attracted to sort of blockbuster action movies. "You can look at things like Aliens. You can look at things like Commando. You can look at things like The Old Guard and you can say, these have a specific feel throughout them, but they don't sacrifice that, like, hey, the world is at stake. Independence Day is another one that we really like. It's like, oh, my God, watch the trailer for Independence Day. You're like, 'This is going to be a hell of a movie. The Earth's going to get destroyed.' Then you get in the theater and Will Smith's like, 'Welcome to Earth.' You're like, 'Oh, it's this kind of movie.'"
As someone old enough to have grown up on these movies: they nailed this perfectly. I get so mad when people go for the god damn Infinity War about Lightfall. Literally never even remotely been a thing devs used to make Lightfall. Fans invented it because they haven't seen a single movie outside of the MCU.
if Lightfall has million number of enjoyers, I'm one of them. if Lightfall has ten enjoyers, I'm one of them. if Lightfall has one enjoyer, and that is me.
#destiny 2#lightfall#genuinely if I will also snap one day and write 500 pages about lightfall#also incredibly incredibly true about people having their own pre-set ideas and getting completely blindsided by something else happening#i think a lot of people just genuinely aren't interested anymore and wanted everything to end asap#instead of having to engage with new concepts and paradigm shifts.#and also super silly to expect lightfall to 'end' anything. it's not the ending. it's a cliffhanger before the ending.#and the worst is that people who clearly don't care anymore are lamenting how destiny doesn't have 'mystery' like it did back in the day#but the same people are also annoyed that lightfall didn't immediately drop every explanation in an easily digestible format#or that lightfall introduced new things nobody knew anything about. bro. that's the mystery you wanted#BRO THE MYSTERY WAS LIGHTFALL. YOU MISSED IT. YOU MISSED THE MYSTERY.#'things weren't explained' they were new. they wanted things to be mysterious and take time and have the fans theorising#'nobody told us what the veil was!' i wonder. if perhaps. they didn't tell us. because. hm. because they. didn't know.#crazy how nature do that. maybe neomuni didn't tell us because they have no fucking clue#and then. surprise. that's exactly what was revealed in veil logs. chioma buried it because she thought it was dangerous#and neomuni in present day only know that the veil is a thing somewhere in there and it powers their city#the theorycrafting and the build-up about everything about the veil and the post-campaign quests and reveals in the veil logs...#insane time to be around and go through the lore trying to understand this thing at the same time the characters are doing it#engaging with veil logs for the whole year has honestly been my favourite thing. i want something like that every year now.#SORRY ABOUT THE RANT but the more time passes after lightfall and i still hear the same complaints i just lose more of my shit#like i'm sorry but 'there's no explanations' is not valid anymore. you just straight up gave up engaging with lore#the explanations are there and they're a part of lightfall. veil logs is a post-campaign quest. it's not getting vaulted.#imagine waiting for the story to conclude before judging the story. wow!#the story about the game will be revealed to you if you play the game and engage with the story#also it's fine if someone doesn't vibe with lightfall. my beef is with those who are like. 'i didn't like it therefore it's objectively bad

blah blah thinking about the popular rebuttal to complaints about veilguard's politics being "bioware was never leftist so you shouldnt have expected veilguard to be" which is... interesting.
true, of course. the expectation part i disagree with but thats not what ive been thinking about. im thinking about what made it feel so different to the very similar centrism of da:i. and maybe someone who didnt black out the entirety of veilguard as a cognitive protective mechanism can speak to the specifics but i think ive settled on it being that da:i is undoubtedly neoliberal and centrist just like da:o and da2 before it but despite their clear framing and limitations there was always the encouragement to think and the freedom to do things that the game might condemn narratively as "too radical" but you could at least do them. or say them.
this erodes by the time you get to da:i but in veilguard its absent completely. like making leliana divine or putting briala on the throne, for example. the game presents these options in a very neoliberal and centrist way. the un-softened leliana divine epilogue slide features much of the "radical violence bad!!!!! bad choice!!!!" connotation that all of veilguard has. but you can still do it. briala has incredibly limited power as gaspard's puppetmaster and her epilogue slide similarly slaps the player on the wrist for behaving so radically by putting *gasp* an elf in power resulting in Bad Disruptive Uprisings throughout orlais. but you can do it. hawke can spare anders and let him go. again, the game slaps you on the wrist via character disapproval and the fact he becomes a wandering hermit or whatever the fuck but. you can still let him go. in origins you can make shianni bann and the consequences are disgusting and horrible and writing it that way is literally sickening, but the game lets you do it. origins lets you do a lot of buck wild shit, some decisions less real-world politically coded than others, but you get to DO IT. even if the game and its writers scold you afterwords for getting too disruptive. YOU CAN STILL DO IT.
and this goes the other way too. there is a reason people like greg ellis had a home with dragon age for so many years and his beliefs were able to go under the radar for so long. there is a reason transphobic gamerbros love origins. there is a reason there was backlash to da2's rampant bisexuality. because dragon age let you be leftist about as much as it let you be a racist misogynistic asshole. you can do horrible things in these games. you can quite literally sell people into slavery. templar aligned hawke lets the kirkwall circle get annulled and becomes viscount as a reward for their loyalty. the inquisitor can just execute literally everyone they judge. now, i'll be the first to say that a lot of those options are not nearly narratively condemned enough. bioware has fumbled many a topic in their misunderstood pursuit of "grey morality" that leads them to feel the need to morally equalize situations of clear, unambiguous injustice (cough mage templar war cough). in fact, decisions like sparing anders are often far more clearly narratively punished than things like giving fenris back to danarius, (which kind of just blows over after some approval loss???) and in my opinion that is a writing flaw. i do think RPG games should have choice, and allow players to be evil, but i also think that writers have a responsibility for the message their writing sends to the world. some decisions in dragon age are well-handled. many others recreate and reflect real life racism or misogyny or islamophobia, and reveal the writer's bias against real-life groups of people or political movements. this is the risk of writing stories like these.
but veilguard does not let you do anything. in either direction. ive been calling it a "thought-terminating fantasy cliche" because... it really is thought-terminating. you are not supposed to think about alternatives that may be too radical in the writer's eyes (what if i let anders go instead of face the justice [haha] the game clearly thinks he deserves? what if i install an elvhen puppetmaster on the orlesian throne despite all of my advisors recommendations? what if i support the murder-pope in reforming the chantry through violence and bloodshed?). veilguard has..... what if i save this city over that one? the only one i can think of is saving isseya. are there any others? genuine question. theres nothing to decide and therefore there is nothing to think about. you dont get to think of possibilities past the narrow centrist path presented to you. you dont get to think about an end for solas that doesnt end in jail. you dont get to think about who becomes tevinter's archon and what policies you might like to see them have. you dont make choices between major factions based on ideological and/or practical differences like recruiting mages vs templars. you barely even get to decide anything for the characters, half of the choices are purely cosmetic.
like i feel like theres something to be said for having the choice even if the overall narrative still condemns it. the writer's bias leaks in to the world's reactions to your decisions but you are still allowed to make them. i always intentionally leave leliana hardened because i think radical insane murder-pope who diversifies the church through ASSASSINATION is based. i dont give a fuck if david g/aider thinks its too crazy and tells me so in a thinly veiled epilogue slide reprimand about "the consequences of my actions". idgaf! 1. its a video game and 2. idc what he thinks.
and yes, nothing ever actually changes. dragon age has never allowed you to make radical change within its world even with the decisions that brush up on the possibility. but you can still be someone who believes in the possibility. you can play a mahariel who hates humans and poisons the ashes of their prophet because why should they care when they stole everything from the elves first? you can play a blood-mage circle-abolitionist anders-apologist hawke doing their best to survive in a city where survival and self-preservation sometimes forces them to act against their values. you can play a lavellan inquisitor who refuses to believe in andraste or the maker, advocates for elvhen liberation, and installs an elf on the orlesian thrown despite being forced into the role of figurehead for a religious empire. sure, you cant really actually do anything for the elves, but you can be someone who believes that change should happen. its not perfect. its certainly not some radical revolutionary fantasy nor does literally anyone expect it to be and when people say that its always in bad faith.
bioware has always been canadian liberal centrists and so have their games. but they used to let you get a little fun and crazy and then just reprimand you via epilogue slides or retcons in later games that we all just got to complain about online. but veilguard forces you to roleplay someone else's ideology; a boring centrist status quo loving fantasy with no opportunity to do something different. elven rooks cannot question dorian on tevinter slavery like elven inquisitors could. rook cannot ask lucanis about the child recruitment practices of the crows the way the warden could to zevran. rook cannot ask davrin about the warden's pressure into conscription, joinging and eventual calling the way the warden could alistair or hawke can to anders in legacy. you cannot ask about alternatives or question a single authority or character of any kind. you cannot voice dissent. the dialogue option does not exist. what was once a slap on the wrist in previous titles has become reactionary and preemptive. you wont get slapped on the wrist in the first place because you're stuck in a boring, empty room for after-school detention, railroaded into "good" behavior and confined to one path so you cant get into any trouble on your own. thought-terminating fantasy cliche. it didnt need to be some insane groundbreaking revolutionary work of marxism or whatever the fuck hyperbolic nonsense people are trying to straw-man the criticism into to disprove it as unreasonable. it needed to not advertise itself as an RPG and then force me to roleplay white canadian millenial neoliberal afraid of getting canceled on twitter simulator 4.0 because if i knew thats what i was signing up for i would have respectfully declined and saved my $70 on something that doesnt condescend to me for enjoying bald war criminals and stories about revolution

I saw a post on my dash talking about how Tsumugi is a shitty story teller (as an endearing, "baby's bad at stories but trying her very best just doesn't have the skill yet" character flaw now as a dig) and I REALLY dig that interpretation a lot, but I also want to talk about a different take on it because I have BrainRot about it now
And it has to do with her Mastermind Sprites and the interpretation that V3 Was Not Fiction.

I've posted about this before on my old blog where I jokingly discussed that Tsumugi's eyes (aside from just flat out changing color, like what) look extremely stressed.
Her pupils are drawn with the scratchy look that Danganronpa has used for insanity in the past, and Tsumugi has purple bags under here eyes.
So what could this mean for a Tsumugi Shirogane who was the Mastermind of Game 53, to be on the cusp of insanity and to have bags under her eyes?
A lot of people joked in the original post that it was the Team DR Crunch Time, but I do have to wonder if Tsumugi is even enjoying herself as the Mastermind. These insane, tired looking sprites only pop up when she IS presenting as the Mastermind, and one other time that I think is important to mention.
At the end of her Salmon mode event:
Here is her Graduation Event Video if you want to double check it, but in this instance, the writers chose for not her to only imply that the person "Tsumugi Shirogane" was merely a cosplay, (which is an INSANE LORE DROP that I don't think people notice/talk about ENOUGH about Tsumugi) BUT that the Freudian slip was unintentional--a showcase of her true self.
And how is this "true self" described? Well--
As if the light left her eyes.
This could indicate lifelessness, but I also see it used a LOT to describe exhaustion and depression. A lifeless state of mind, if you will. And this was describing a sprite under the label of her mastermind sprites.
I think Tsumugi is a passionate person over her hobbies and fandom, I think she writes fanfics as love letters to the fandoms she adores and cosplays her characters out of pure love for them, as she complains about in her FTEs when mentioning people have been putting themselves before their characters when it comes to cosplay professionals.
I don't think V3 was a product of her love at all, if she even made it herself. Her grand reveal of her being the mastermind is full of sprites with eyes that are described as lifeless.
I don't think anyone who wants to be doing what they're doing would have lifeless eyes while doing it.

â this one's for you.

read part 1 here.
ft. isagi yoichi x reader. wc. 4k
summary. it all started with breakfast, and now you're quite literally the main character of an american teen romcom movie âwhats next, a goal dedicated to you? content. fem!reader, fem pronouns used, fluff, crack, slow burn ?? they don't end up dating like officialy but kinda ?? isagis parents are like . very present here. college students!au. reader realizes shes down bad. isagi plays for the uni team and looks very hot doing it. author's note. remember i said id post this soon. well. uni's got me again im SO sorry, but here it is!! idk ive been meaning to write this for a while now but im not sure if i like it at all now ?? i read it too much i guess, hope u do like it tho <3
đđ english isnt my first language, so any corrections or advice are highly appreciated, as well as feedback (please) !

fuck. you think to yourself, going up the stairs as fast as you can. fuck fuck fuck.
you nimbly and silently dodge the faded blue and yellowish-white seats, crouching slightly, trying not to disturb the crowd already settled in the stands, muttering âsorry, iâm sorry, excuse me" every time you step on someone's foot or have to ask them to stand up so you can pass.
you get a couple of judgmental glances and a few retorts, but nothing embarrasses you more than finally reaching the front row of the stands and approaching the only empty seat next to a couple who are staring at you intently.
isagi's parents.
you hurriedly sit down after the person on your other side clears their throat âyouâre blocking their view.
"hello," you dare to whisper, tilting your head forward before making eye contact with them, as if that way they can ignore the red hue that's invaded your entire face. "i'm sorry i was late. i got mixed up with the subway and didn't leave home early enough."
that's not true. you've been fully prepared âmakeup done and outfit onâ, hours before you had to leave. however, ten minutes before you had to get off the subway, youâd looked in the mirror and decided your hair wasn't right, so you had pulled out the hair straightener and brush again. what was supposed to be a simple touch-up turned into a nearly half-hour hairstyling session in front of your bathroom mirror.
and all your effort only served to have the warm summer wind ruffle your hair as you stepped outside.
"yn, right?" isagi's mother âundoubtedly related to him, they have the same eyesâ gives you a warm look that makes your heartbeat slow down a bit. "don't worry, the game's just starting, theyâre late too.â
"nice to finally meet you, yn." isagi's father peeks out from behind his wife and waves in greeting, also flashing a smile that's exactly like his son's. "yoichi has told us a lot about you."
you reciprocate his gesture with another smile, and turn your head toward the field in front of you. you have a perfect view of all the players from the spot they've reserved for you âhigh above the field, but not so high that the teams look like simple colored dots on a green blanket. you assume the ones wearing blue are your university's team, since thatâs the collegeâs official color.
isagi has told you about his teammates and practice many times, but somehow he never mentioned any detail about the team's kit or his number.
you're a little embarrassed to ask out loud.
"uh..." you whisper again, leaning slightly closer to isagi's mother without taking your eyes off the field. "what number is yoichi?"
"yoichi, hm?" there's a hint of amusement in his voice, teasing you for using his son's first name. "he's number eleven âthere, near the long-haired redheaded boy. do you see him?"
your gaze follows her directions and rests on the blue back of number eleven. his back is turned, but his disheveled black hair and the way he walks are impossible to mistake.
âoh! yeah, i see him now, thanks." you smile, and your chronic need to fill all silences forces you to add something more âi've really been wanting to see him play."
the woman turns her head toward you, looking at you with the same kind expression you see on her son's face every morning.Â
"believe me, if you were eager, he was even more so.â she says. âhe won't stop talking about you."
and that sentence is enough to make you not say anything else for a while.
you started to suspect that you liked Isagi a couple of weeks ago, before your sudden disappearance âwhen you panicked because you had no way of contacting him to let him know that you had a family emergency. youâd been chatting since tuesday, at all hours of the day, every day until the game, and he hadn't pressed too much about what happened, probably so you wouldnât feel bad. from what you could gather, he had been waiting for you every day âbut nothing serious, really, donât worry about it.
taking into account what you already knew about him, you assumed he'd been sitting at the table with the breakfast set, waiting for you all three days of the week. just imagining it made you want to scream into your pillow âhe was so kind it made you sick. it made your stomach flutter with butterflies.
that's why you begged your parents to let you return to tokyo for at least a couple of hours that monday afternoon, because, according to you, claiming youâd left something really important at the apartment and needed to pick it up to finish your proyects. youâd run to the campus cafeteria with half your savings in your wallet, a bright green post-it note with your number written on it, and a message for the waitress.
thank god it worked, and you got a text from Isagi the next day. for a solid second, you truly thought you'd messed up completely âand that isagi hated you.
just when you were starting to process the fact that you really liked him.
because you like him. of course you like him.
more than halfway through the school year, things had started to get a little complicated for you âliving alone for the first time, not having any really close friends in the city, having to navigate the capital on your own. sure, you may be a sociable and outgoing person, but sometimes everything felt too big. even for you.
and then you met isagi.
being with him is easy. talking with him is easy. feeling better, comfortable, and safe with him is easy. there came a point over these past months when youâd go to bed thinking about seeing him the next day âand he never failed. every morning, he was there, waiting for you with a coffee, a piece of toast, and a smile that started sending a weird tingling into your stomach the moment saw it.
it only took one night of facetime with your best friend back home to realize that a simple friend doesn't make you smile like a fool just thinking about them.
that, and disappearing for a whole week only to come back with a gesture straight out of an american teen romcom definitely isnât just friends behaviour, youâd say.
a gesture straight out of a teen romcom. a smile escapes you just thinking about it, and you have to bite your lower lip so no one ânot the couple next to you, at leastâ will notice.
but thatâs exactly what you look like, right? the main characters of a movie.
you check all the boxes, if you think about it âyou met in the university cafeteria every morning and started talking to share a breakfast set because âsurpriseâ you were perfectly compatible. it became a tradition for both of you, to the point you only looked forward to seeing the other every week. then, suddenly, you disappear for a whole week when everythingâs going fine, and he has no way to contact you. very convenient for the plot. but really, you hadnât thought about exchanging socials, since you saw each other every other day anyway.Â
thankfully, you managed to give him your number through the cafeteria waitress.
and now youâre at a soccer match, wearing the first blue thing you found in your motherâs closet âa scarf way too warm for a summer day, but the only thing that could pass as team merchâ to show your support. his parents are sitting next to you in the stands after saving you a seat. to top it all off, it's a perfect sunny day.
whatâs the next thing? a goal dedicated to you?
oh. well. mental note âyou think to yourself, snapping back to reality as isagiâs mother grabs your arm excitedlyâ donât be sarcastic with the universe ever again.
because, right after spiraling with thoughts of the guy you like for about fifteen whole minutes, you might suddenly find yourself standing in front of your blue seat with your hands up, that guyâs mother pulling you to your feet. your hand grips the railing of the stands, your voice drowned among the crowdâs victory screams âand your gaze searches the field for the one who just scored the first goal of the game.
donât be sarcastic with the universe again, because when your eyes land on number eleven from the blue team, you might surprise yourself by widely smiling and joining the choir of voices chanting his name, your voice blending into the roar as his teammates lift him in celebration.
and maybe âjust maybeâ your gaze meets his. and as he grabs his jersey by the number and presses a kiss to it, he points straight at you and mouths, this oneâs for you.
or thatâs what you think he says. you canât really hear him from up here, and now everyoneâs eyes are on you, and you honestly have no idea how to react.
the match continues, thankfully, and you sit back down without having to say anything. the crowdâs attention returns the field â though youâre pretty sure isagiâs mother is still watching you, but youâre not brave enough to turn and confirm it.
isagi yoichi just dedicated a goal to me. okay. fine. thatâs completely fine and means nothing.
except you donât feel fine at all. and youâre pretty sure it does mean something.
so this time, for real, you put all your attention on the match âbecause, if youâre honest, you have no idea of whatâs been happening on the field since the game started. you try to follow the ball and recall all the plays isagi has described to you so many times. itâs a bit difficult, though, considering you never really understood them and mostly nodded along just because you liked seeing him light up while talking about the things he loves.
yeah. maybe youâve been down bad for longer than you thought.
as your eyes lock onto number eleven again, you start to regret not paying attention earlier.
heâs a bit far from you now, waiting on the side of the field for a pass or a chance to steal the ball, while his teammate âthe one with the blond streaksâ skillfully advances with it, weaving through the opposing team. but you can see him clearly.
he looks focused, deep blue eyes fixed on the ball as it draws closer, his jet-black hair waves slightly in the breeze, a few damp strands clinging to his forehead. his mouth is parted slightly, his chest rising and falling with the rhythm of fast-paced breathing from running so much. his athletic shorts hug tightly around his thighs, muscles flexing as he starts to sprint after the now clear ball.
you swallow hard and blink a few times, trying to snap out of it. you're not the one who's been playing for nearly half an hour, but you're pretty sure you need a drink of water more than any of the players.
holy shit. since when is yoichi so hot?
you scratch the back of your neck nervously âa tic youâve picked up from himâ, eyes glued to the field. your face is hot and red, and you know itâs definitely not your too-warm scarfâs fault at all.
still, you canât look away. you always knew he was handsome âway before you ever gathered the courage to talk to himâ, but this is different. he looks confident, almost cocky. thereâs a smug little grin when he steals the ball, raised brows when he blocks a goal, and the rest of the time heâs laser-focused, scanning the field. you canât help but gulp every time his head turns toward the stands and his eyes land on you, even for just a second.
you donât even catch what heâs yelling, both to his rivals and his teammates âprobably not compliments or pretty words, judging by the way the crowd and even his parents reactâ because itâs impossible to focus on what heâs saying when he looks so aggressive and somehow so attractive doing it.
or maybe you just like him too much, and everything he does seems attractive..Â
either way, it doesnât matter âbecause then he scores again, and the crowd erupts. you do too, but not because the scoreboard now reads 3-0, securing the win thanks to number tenâs earlier goal. no.
you turn bright red when, right after scoring, the striker looks straight at you âat your seatâ with a confident, satisfied grin, and points at you again.
your legs actually tremble.
heâs driving you insane, and youâre pretty sure he knows it.Â
you're so caught up in whatever spell he has you under that, for the rest of the match, you don't process a single a thing âeven though your eyes never leave him once.
you do a good job of being a fan, though.Â
you stand up with the crowd to clap and cheer when his teammates score two more goals ânumber 10, whose name is rin, as you've already learned, and the tall, white-haired boy, nagi. you even boo the other team when they get their first and only goal. you nod at all yoichiâs mother comments, who understands the game about as much as you do, and you smile politely at his father when he says something âwhich you mostly canât hear over the crowdâs noise, but still respond to with an enthusiastic nod.
the heat gets intense enough that youâre forced to take your jacket off ânot technically because of the weather, but no one but you needs to know that. by the end of the match, your jeans are rolled up and youâre left in just a tank top. but the scarf is still around your neck, and you make sure to adjust it carefully across your shoulders before following isagiâs parents down to the field once the crowd begins to disperse.
âwhat do you think, yn? isnât he good?â his father asks.Â
itâs the first time you can actually make out what heâs saying âthe crowd had been way too loud before, and you didnât want to repeat âwhat?â twenty times, so youâd just nodded and smiled.
âyeah, wow. he really is.â you answer, walking a little awkwardly between the two of them. youâre not even sure when exactly they managed to surround you âi understand now why you said heâs considered one of the best strikers in japan. i mean, heâs told me a lot about soccer, so i knew he had to be good just from how much he knows⊠but, wow. heâs amazing.âÂ
âyes, he is.â his mother adds, flashing you a wide smile.Â
you meet her gaze and mirror the expression, and you know she means it when she says âwe are very proud of him.â
his father nods in agreement, and something warm and fluttering blooms in your chest. itâs a weird feeling, being proud of someone just because you know others are proud of them too. feeling glad ârelieved, evenâ that people see him and admire him the same way you do.Â
thatâs love, you guess.
âheâs really thankful for youâ you donât know where it comes from, but you canât stop yourself. âheâs told me a bunch of times. he loves you a lot.â
isagiâs motherâs smile softens, her right arm slipping around your shoulders. she adjusts your scarf gently, her fingers brushing your skin as she gives you a warm little squeeze.
âah, we love him a lot, too.â she replies âthen her kind smile shifts into something far too close to a teasing grin. âand something tells me weâre gonna love you a lot, too.â
youâre left completely speechless. you glance away quickly, unable to form a single coherent thought âlet alone a response. what are you supposed to say when the mother of the guy you like basically gives you her blessing before youâre even official?
thankfully, isagi is finished talking to his coach and is now approaching you near the edge of the field.Â
âyocchan!â his mother calls out, cupping her hands around her mouth to be heard âand removing her arm from around your shoulders in the process. âweâre here!â
you try to laugh at the nickname âyou remember him confessing it to you a few mornings ago, his cheeks flushed with embarrassmentâ but you canât. you canât, because youâre speechless again.Â
yoichi walks towards you with slow, steady steps.
his face is flushed and glistening with sweat, and his eyes still burn with the thrill of victoryâthereâre still traces of the same pride and confidence he only ever shows when heâs on the field in his gaze. strands of hair cling to his forehead, and his shirt, damp with sweat, sticks tightly to his frame.
then he grabs the hem of his jersey with one hand and lifts it to his face to wipe off the sweat from his mouth and nose. you try not to stare âreally, you tryâ, but your eyes flick down to his stomach, and then straight back up to his eyes.
he's so attractive you almost choke on air.
isagi's mother starts to take a few steps toward him, but before she can reach him, a small group of girls intercepts him âpractically swarming yoichi with flirtatious smiles and compliments that , judging by their tone, probably end with a request for his number.
however, despite how confident he is on the field, isagiâs not like that off of it âheâs more on the shy side. and he clearly has no interest in them at all.
he thanks them politely, as best he can, then awkwardly escapes the circle of attention theyâve trapped him in, practically jogging over to where his parents âand youâ are waiting for him.
you know he's nervous when his hands goes to the back of his neck, ruffling his hair. he opens his mouth to say something, but no words come out.
it's funny how the silence is broken not by him, but by the same group of girls from before.
âi have no idea who that is.â one of them says, voice pitched just loud enough to be heard âmaybe his sister? or his cousin, or something.â
you both burst out laughing at the interruptionâand the assumptionâ and just like that, the awkward tension fades, letting isagi finally speak.
âthanks for coming.â he says. âi thought you werenât going to show for a second, when the match started and i didnât see you.âÂ
âyeah, had a little subway confusion, soâŠâ
âno! no, i didn't mean it like a complaint or anything âjust an observation. iâm really glad you made it.â
you smile softly.
âyeah, iâm really glad i came, too.â
he smiles back, and suddenly, it feels like the first day again, when neither of you knew what to say after that first hi.
you swallow hard, blink, and then break the silence.
âyou were⊠fuck, you were amazing out there.âÂ
youâre staring at him âa little too openly. and then it hits you: youâre not alone. âoh! i mean- i mean, you were, wow, amazing out there.â you correct yourself quickly, glancing at his parents beside you.
his father chuckles.
âdonât worry. after all the things heâs shouted on the field, a simple fuck is nothing.â
your face burns red âredder than the opposing teamâs jerseysâ while both his parents laugh.
and you expect isagi to laugh too, or brush it off like he did with the girls earlier. but, instead, he blushes, and looks at you with that small, lopsided smile that makes your chest ache.Â
then he looks away again, ruffling his hair.
thereâs your breakfast partner again. not the star athlete âjust the cute guy from the cafeteria that studies psychology and plays soccer.
"thanks. you, uh..â
he glances at his mom, who subtly gestures, nudging him to say more âlike this is something theyâve rehearsed.
"you look very pretty today.â he finally says.Â
then he adds, quickly:
âi mean, you always do ânot just today. but you look specially pretty today." and heâs babbling again "that blue scarf looks great on you. but, uh, you also look kind of like youâre suffocating?â
you laugh. if only he knew itâs not the weather, but him, whatâs making your face so red.
"i remembered uni's color was blueâ you explain, fingers fidgeting with the end of the scarf. âdidnât have any merch, so i just tried to support you with whatever i had at home.â
what you donât mention is that you stole it from you momâs closet back in your hometown, after having a full-blown crisis over not owning anything remotely close to your collegeâs colors.
âwell, i could give you something.â he offers, voice low and a bit nervous. âi have a few spare jerseys at home."Â
youâre about to answer âor collapse, honestly, because youâre pretty sure this is the kind of things official couples do in clichĂ© romantic moviesâ but then his mom cuts in:
âspeaking of that âwhy donât you come over, yn?â she asks. âi made yocchanâs favorite meal today. have lunch with us? he told us you live alone, so thereâs no issue, right?âÂ
you start to understand where isagi got his talent for yapping.
âweâll get to know you better, yoichi thanks you for coming to the game, and he gives you his jersey."Â
your brain becomes a chaotic mess of thoughts. you want to say yes, obviously. you want to thank her for the invitation. you want to ask isagi what giving you his jersey means. you want to see his room and his house, but you also kind of want to run back to your place, dive onto your bed, and scream into a pillow.
isagi misreads your hesitation.
"mom, she might have plans. donât pressure herâ"Â
"no, no, iâd love to go!" you interrupt quickly.Â
yoichi raises a brow, clearly surprised âhe knows you donât really like his favorite dish. youâve been bickering about it for weeks.
"thank you for inviting me."
"you heard her, yoichi, she said yes.â his mom beams. ânow go shower, youâre still red from the match. youâve got fifteen minutes, meet us at the car. meanwhile, yn and us have lots to talk about.â
somehow, she doesnât make it sound like a threat, more like an invitation.Â
drawing a smile, isagi mumbles a soft "sorry" before heading to the locker room. as he walks away, you call out: âiÂŽll be fine. i think she likes me."Â
isagiâs smile is wide and bright right before he disappears through the locker room door. heâs so wrapped up in his own joy âso stupidly in loveâ he doesnât even notice the trap heâs just walked into.
inside, the locker room is already full. his teammates are waiting, ready to tease him.
"i have some spare jerseys" karasu mocks, his voice high-pitched, grinning wide. "i could give you oneâ
isagi throws his towel at him.
"oh, shut upâ
"nah, thats a good move, isagi" otoya chimes in âi've done that a bunch. nothing makes me play better than having a cute girl with my number on in the standsâ
isagi doesn't love the comparison. otoya is famous for rotating girls every match âand thatâs so not him. definitely not with you.Â
he wants you at all his games. he wants you to be the only one ever, actually. for everything. only you, even if it seems too intense.
"its not like that" isagi says "i really like her. like⊠marry-her-like-her. having-kids-with-her-like-her. celebrate-christmas-with-her-like-her. âÂ
otoya blinks.
"huh? well, i like all my girlfriends a lot too.â
isagi doesnât respond âmostly because chigiri and reo immediately jump into a debate with otoya about how what he just said is probably offensive to, like, every girl in the country. and in the world.
still, one word lingers in his mind.
girlfriend.Â
yeah. he wouldnât mind calling you that at all.

TWST SELF AWARE AUâseries
|Overblot boys x Gn!reader
Cw- this is a yandere series so the basic stuff like obsessive and possessive behavior, isolation all that good yandere stuff will be present (remember none of this behavior is healthy nor do I condone it this is purely for entertainment pls take care of yourselves)
Summary: You're just a college student trying to survive, you download a game out of pure curiosity and boredom, you really get into it soon your app starts acting strange. Hey are your things being moved around? You don't remember falling asleep in your bed. Perchance you're losing your mindâ or there are 7 guys who all equally want your attention and overloaded their code to get it.
A/n: my twst self aware au has been some of my most popular posts and I get the most asks/req for it, it also so happens to be my favorite to write so I wanted to actually make a fic with it with actual plot and storyâ there is a category in my master list for all the other stuff with that au but none of it is really needed to understand the plot!(It will still be following main ideas abt this au ofc) This is short and really just an introductionđââïž
âPROLOGUEâ
Prologue [you are here] , CHAP1
You were tired, your eye bags proved that. They were heavy and a clear sign of the lack of sleep you had been getting the last few days. You finally got some rest time after you finished turning in work for your finals. Classes have started to be less hectic and work hasn't been as bad. You could relax. You lay in bed, scrolling through your recommended list for apps on your phone. One in particular catches your eye. You don't strike yourself as a huge Disney fan. Sure you liked some of the movies and shows mostly stuff you had enjoyed since you were young but you never were super extreme about it.
Twisted Wonderland. Interesting concept for a game. You rolled over in your side and swiped through the information on it. You let out a yawn before clicking download. A game based on Disney villains how intriguing besides It would be nice to have more things on your phone other than whatever free games came pre-installed. You rubbed your eyes, waiting for the downloading bar to complete.
After a few minutes of staring at your screen the download was complete. You opened the app. Too tired to use your brain to come up with a good name for your character you just left it blank. Yuu was good enough for you not like you were going to play the game too much anywho.
Turns out you were going to play the game a lot more than you'd like to admit. The story was fun you enjoyed the characters and it also had a gacha aspect. What could you say it kept you quite entertained throughout the day. You started getting into the fandom culture a bit even. You especially liked the overblot boys , they were your favorites.
You didn't know you were their favorite too.
You tapped away at your phone in your apartment elevator. You had come back from a mandatory lecture, you were beyond tired and you felt your eyes fighting the urge to close. Yet you had to do your dailies. You opened the app you had been obsessing over the past week.
"Huh?" You exclaimed out loud. Causing the others in the elevator to give you weird looks. You awkwardly laughed and hurried out the elevator. Leona was present on your home screen but last time you checked it should have been Jamil. How odd. Maybe you just forgot you had changed it. Ended up embarrassing yourself in front of people you don't know over something so silly.
You sighed as you fumbled with your keys. You'd never been happier to see your apartment. You sat down your bags on the chair near your island before making your way over to your couch and crashing. You didn't have the energy to go all the way to your room even if it wasn't much of a walk.
You pulled back at your phone and stared at the screen for awhile just watching Leona's character idly blink and occasionally speak. Something felt off, something about his character made you feel a little uncomfortable. He felt too real.
What are you talking about? You're going crazy. You're just tired and need some rest. You rolled over and tapped his character. His ears twitch and his face scrunches up slightly. Was he...blushing? You hadn't seen this Sprite before. Maybe it came with the update?
Too sleepy to care you turned off your device and snuggled into the throw pillow on your couch. You needed some rest.
â
Leona was a fool. A huge fool but he didn't care when he could almost feel you through the screen. Jamil was still pissed at him but how could he care?
He was one of the first few to realize something was wrong. Something was wrong with their world. Something was up with the little perfect of ramshackle. Ruggie called him paranoid yet something about the way they carried themselves was too practiced too perfect. It unsettled him, made his fur stick up.
His paranoia branched out to obsessive behavior. Yuu was odd. Magicless human from another world were odd in itself but something about them. He soon found out he wasn't the only one who had taken an interest in the perfect . He knew he wasn't going crazy there was something wrong with them. Something wrong with him. With everyone in that damn school.
Fake. All of it was fake. Leona found that out. He saw you first. The real you. Not the illusion that stood in your place.You. Maybe it was because it was the first real thing he'd ever actually felt. Something stirred in him. It wasn't programmed in him to feel. He wasn't supposed to.
Unfortunately like stated before he wasn't the only one who became too curious and learned too much. Everyone who was victim to the unusual overblots became hyper aware of their existence. Of how everything about them was mere programming and code. It was all a game. Their entire lives was nothing but something strug together by some unknown creator.
But you were real. You were the only thing real and they became obsessed with that. They all craved your attention all craved to learn more because you were the only thing that was real. You were like their god nothing mattered but you. Not your stand in persona Yuu no âyou. You were theirs. You just didn't know it yet.
You were blissfully unaware of the seven guys behind your phone screen who stopped paying attention to all around them because why would they? What's the point if they're not actually real. They're just characters built to co-exist with them. Not important not real. Not you

The Genshin Impact fandom is fascinating to me when it comes to fanfics, because I feel like I struggle to find any fics that really *get* the characterization of certain characters and I'm loathed to write my own because dammit I just want to read the specific itch I crave without resorting to creating it. Give me three more months and I'll cave in.
For example, Diluc is one of my favorites and I find his backstory fascinating in terms of his father Crepus possibly being more morally ambiguous than most fans are willing to admit and how little we know of Diluc's murder spree in Snezhnaya.
For example which Harbinger(s) did he have a run-in with? Will we find out more about the secret intelligence network that took him in, that he apparently had a high position in? Did he ever find the answers he was searching for? The list goes on.
It's hard for me to find the specific characterization of him I crave for in fics because I think his platonic relationship with Kaeya is incredibly nuanced and complex but I feel like his character often gets assassinated for Kaeya angst but like, the man had the worst birthday ever?
Imagine being Diluc, living through a literal worst nightmare. Your dad is dead after you failed to protect him yourself. Not only is your dad dead but he died after wielding a delusion--you dont even know what a delusion is but its clearly bad news. Why the fuck did your father have it and how?
On top of this, the Favonius Knights--the organization you proudly served and the very organization that your father heavily encouraged you to serve--insists on covering up the truth because it makes them look bad. The Favonius Knights, who are supposed to be honorable and uphold integrity, are anything but that.
Then your adoptive brother, who you've known for years and trust with your life, shows up and tells you he's been spying for a foreign nation since you were kids with the intent of harming Mondstadt and everything about your relationship is possibly all one big lie and well--how do you not snap??
Now, I'm also incredibly fond of Kaeya and he was just as traumatized by Crepus's death. He was wracked with guilt for *feeling* relieved that he didn't have to worry about betraying his birth father for his adoptive father since Crepus was dead. He anticipated Diluc's anger and felt like their duel was a punishment for his lies.
To me, it hints that Kaeya probably didn't reveal the truth expecting Diluc's understanding, but rather he knew how he would react and perhaps he wanted Diluc to strike him down in that duel. Or at the very least, he wanted to distance himself from Diluc and cut off ties in order to avoid emotional attachment stopping him from his mission.
I personally head-canon that Diluc withdrew upon seeing Kaeya's vision because well--why would the gods bless Kaeya with a vision if he truly had the intent to harm Mondstadt? So in spite of what Kaeya revealed, he isn't a threat. But there's still a lot of hurt there to navigate through.
I think it's fascinating seeing where they stand in present game because Kaeya obviously has the ideology of working the system from within. He stayed in the knights (even taking over his brother's position) and with Jean rooted out the Inspector and his cronies.
Meanwhile Diluc just isn't that type of person. He doesn't settle, he refuses to work in a system he views corrupt, he rather accomplish what he can outside of it. Curiously, he doesn't challenge the status quo beyond being vocal of his distaste of the Knights.
This is head-canon fantasyland, but I like to envision Kaeya and Diluc do use a lot of the same informants and collaborate on intel relating to the safety of Mondstadt (especially since Diluc can move in ways against the Fatui that the Knights can't due to political reasons) but they struggle to have the same connection as before.
For example, Diluc's story quest--Kaeya was essentially giving Diluc an alibi with the Knights. Even if Jean damn well knows who it is, they still have to have official documentation stating otherwise.
Kaeya is good at reading people, he has to be given how he was raised to be a child spy. But I like to think he struggles to read Diluc like before. Diluc is much more jaded, pessimistic, quieter than before. He prefers to work on his own as much as possible. From Kaeya's pov, the only person he's seen Diluc willing to fully trust enough to work alongside with is the Traveler, and he states as much.
The opposite is true of Diluc. Kaeya was his shadow, a quiet but inquisitive, witty observer. Cavalry Captain Kaeya is much more outgoing and friendly, his charm on full display. Did he ever really truly know Kaeya or did he only show Diluc what he wanted him to see? Is Kaeya happier this way?
Fanon often depicts Kaeya as essentially being barred from the dawn winery from the duel by Diluc himself, but I don't think that's quite the case. Much rather, given the reason he told Diluc that night, I think he views himself as undeserving due to unresolved guilt.
Canon seems to hint at all of this through his hangout and Hidden Strife, the latter of which is unfortunately a time-limited event that occurred before I even played (hoyo please stop having heavy lore drops occur in time limited events).
I think the two want to trust each other again, but both are afraid of destroying the tentative truce they have so they leave all of it unaddressed. Kaeya refuses to be completely truthful ever again and Diluc acknowledges the past but refuses to discuss it. The tragedy in their relationship that neither is at fault for what happened--it's a twisted emotional mess of grief and heartbreak.
The last point I'd like to touch on is the parallels between Kaeya and Diluc both being essentially child soldiers for their fathers' causes.
For Kaeya, being abandoned in Mondstadt to be a child spy is the most overt. For Diluc? Despite Crepus's strong ambition to be a Favonius Knight and to have a vision--neither happened for him. In Diluc's vision story, it states that he views his vision being a result of their "shared" ambition, hinting that his vision was granted after Diluc's strong resolve to achieve his father's dreams for him.
We know Crepus heavily encouraged Diluc down this path at very young age, given Diluc received his vision at age 10 and became the youngest Captain at age 14. In some ways, I'm sure Kaeya was a bit jealous of Diluc for having a loving father present in his life that was overtly proud of him.
I am not saying Crepus wasn't a good father, I think he cared immensely for Kaeya and Diluc both, but I do think he did some morally grey shit.
Diluc abandoning his vision is fascinating and it's almost never explored in fics. He is the only vision holder we know of (aside from the Inazumauns whose visions were taken by force) that had their ambition for their vision shaken in such a way that they voluntarily discarded their vision for a time and only took it back after reigniting a new ambition to have it (and as far we know the only allogene that faced no negative setbacks from using a delusion long-term without their vision present).
I don't know where to end all of this, except if you have ragbros fic recommendations that you believe cover it in a more nuanced way, let me know!
#genshin impact#diluc ragnvindr#crepus ragnvindr#kaeya alberich#ragbros#character analysis#diluc screams strongly of burnt out gifted kid syndrome#the parallels between him and kaeya are insane to me

Why You Should Try Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy Part 5: It Revolutionizes Investigation and Mystery Solving in TTRPGs
This is part 5 of a multi-part series of posts about the awesome features of Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy, in no particular order.
Find the earlier parts here:
Part 1 Link: We Worked Hard on It!
Part 2 Link: It's Easy to Learn!
Part 3 Link: It's Easy to GM!
Part 4 Link: It's Easy to GM and Supports Narrative and Roleplay!
Finally, weâre getting to some actual game mechanics here.
Itâs called Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy for a reason. The party investigates. Theyâre not cops, and itâs not a police procedural. They could be private eyes, investigative reporters, meddling kids, you name it. The PCs are normal people like you and me who come together to solve some kind of mystery that involves them or their friends and loved ones, and these mystery investigations can take place just about any time between the late 1800s and the present day.
A lot of Eurekaâs main mechanics are about investigating, and they solve the #1 problem that mystery investigation campaigns run up against: Getting stuck.
Dungeons&Dragons 5e is not a game about investigating, itâs a game about combat, and so when you try to run an investigation or mystery in it, youâll find that PCs have a Skill called âInvestigateâ and a Skill called âSensesâ and the whole rest of their abilities are dedicated to combat. This isnât a bad thing if youâre running a campaign focused on combat, but for whatever reason (marketing), most people arenât. So, the party rolls Investigate, and they fail, and they roll Senses, and they fail, and then they have exhausted all of their options for continuing the campaign. So, the GM has to pull a deus ex machina to make the clue fall into their lap. That isnât satisfying or fun for anyone, what was the point of even rolling the dice?
Call of Cthulhu is has been one of the top contenders in the TTRPG scene for investigative gameplay for nearly fifty years, and it does investigative gameplay much better. (Eureka takes a lot of inspiration from Call of Cthulhu, if you want to evolve and advance, you have to look to the past.) PCs have a whole slew of Skills related to investigation, unfortunately often too many. New players tend to be unsure where to put the skill points, and itâs a frequent occurrence that they simply wonât have a high enough rating in (what they didnât know would be) an important skill to find an important clue relating to it, so they fail, and then they have exhausted all of their options for continuing the campaign. So, the GM has to pull a deus ex machina to make the clue fall into their lap. That isnât satisfying or fun for anyone, what was the point of even rolling the dice? Besides, is that really congruent with Lovecraftian horror? The assurance that the universe cares about your success and no matter what, itâll all work out somehow? Delta Green has this exact same issue.
Gumshoe, a more recent contender, also does investigative gameplay a lot better than D&D, but also kind of has the opposite problem from Call of Cthulhu, not enough mechanical guidance. Itâs easily possible for a PC not to have the skill required to get any information out of an important clue, even though they canât fail the dice roll if they do have it.
Eurekaâs design goals are to improve on these, and learn from previous attempts in the design space to make advances in how investigative gameplay in TTRPGs is done. We really think it should not be the GMâs responsibility to bend the universe over backwards to make sure the party succeeds (or at least fails in a satisfying way). The game itself should be doing that.
Eureka PCs have a base set of 21 Skills, each of which is broad enough to encompass many different use cases, and then an assortment of âWrite-Inâ Skills that are optional, and often more specialized.
Like Gumshoe, there isnât really a roll for finding clues. When PCs walk into a room, they simply see/hear/smell everything that they would be able to from where theyâre standing. If the gun is on the floor, they just see the gun on the floor. If the gun is under the couch out of view, but a player says âMy character gets down on the floor and looks under the couch.â, then they just see the gun under the couch.
Dice rolls are used in investigation, however, and all Skills are investigation skills. If the PC is trying to determine if the gun is chambered for the same caliber of bullet that killed the victim, that might be a Firearms roll (the same skill that determines their ability to effectively use firearms in combat). (If the investigator doesnât have the relevant specialized Write-In Skill, they can still make a skill check, theyâre just very very likely to Fail it.)
Eureka has three degrees of success for dice rolls: Full Success, Partial Success, and Failure. It depends a lot on the context and the clue itself, so I wonât get into Full Successes and Partial Successes in this post, weâre going to focus on Failures. If they Fail, they usually get no useful information.
Above, I criticized Call of Cthulhu and D&D5e for allowing dice failures to halt the investigation completely, forcing the GM to pull a deus ex machina to keep things going. So, is that a problem in Eureka? No!
When PCs in Eureka make skill checks to investigate things, they always build up Investigation Points.
1 for a Full Success
2 for a Partial Success
And 3 for a Failure
These points represent the PC themselves going over the facts of the case in their mind at the same time you are. For every 15 Investigation Points saved up, the PC gets a Eureka! Point. Eureka! Points can be spent on a wide variety of things depending on the PCâs build, but thereâs two universal Eureka! Point abilities that all PCs have, and one of those is to have a âEureka! Moment.â
This is exactly what it sounds like. Something clicks in their brain, and they finally understand something that they had been trying to piece together this whole time. This reverses one of their previously Failed (or in some cases Partially Succeeded) investigation rolls of your choice, providing the information that roll would have granted with a Full Success.
This serves as an âun-stuckerâ or ârubber-bandâ mechanic that keeps the PCs in the mystery without the GM having to pull anything out of their ass, but at the same time doesnât make Failure meaningless. If theyâre stuck, it encourages them to pursue other avenues of investigation and keep racking up those points until things start to click into place.
This also still doesnât mean that the PCs are guaranteed eventual success. Time pressure and mortal danger also stand in their way, which we will get to in future parts of this series, you and your PC will have to use your brains if you want them to get out alive with the answers they seek.

waiter waiter!!! can i get more house md smut with a side of intox <3
I GOTCHUUUUUUU ive been thinking a lot abt it can you tell >:3
warnings: intox, hard drug use, cnc/noncon/dubcon, somno, gaslighting, humiliation, mentions of date rape and suicide, homophobia/transphobia, slurs, sph but make it t-dick, medical kink, đ being đ
reader is a trans man/transmasc. anatomical terms used are cunt, slit, and dick/t-dick
so. house has no qualms drugging people for his own personal gain. heâs done it to wilson, cuddyâs mother, a nuisance neighbor, and god knows how many patients. but i donât think heâd do it to have sex with someone. he has multiple reasons for this, the simplest being that he doesnât need to.
âdate rape is pathetic. if you canât get people to sleep with you of their own free will, thatâs what we call a âyou problemâ. you should worry about fixing your own life instead of ruining someone elseâs. or, you could do the honorable thing and just kill yourself, like the noble samurai.â
he also wants his partner in the moment with him. someone excited, responsive, someone who will react to his every touch and beg for more. itâs an ego boost for him.
that being said, however, heâs absolutely into intox sex. itâs probably one of his biggest kinks. heâs fascinated by the effects of drugs, how a little bit of this or a tiny bump of that can augment the experience, either for himself, or a willing lab rat.
house gets off on documenting the experience. sometimes heâll ask you questions about your high and put your answers in writing. sometimes he'll film the session (with or without your knowledge. i bet he has hidden cameras. depends on if heâs worried about participant bias). most commonly though, he'll narrate his findings into a voice recording.
he's fully clothed with you naked on his lap. your head's been spinning for a while now, thanks to that brownie he fed you earlier. he's got one hand pinching your nipple; the other lazily stroking your cunt, tracing up and down your slit, creating a baseline level of arousal for you. "current time is 11:57, almost 3 hours after ingestion. subject is presenting with dilated pupils, impaired motor skills, decreased cognitive function..."
he pinches your t-dick and jerks it aggressively, causing you to jolt upright and yelp in shock, "a-aah! f-fu-OH! fuck!â you start to leak into his hand.
"subject is self-lubricating adequatelyâ" houseâs fingers slip off your t-dick. he huffs in frustration, but gets right back to it, âperhaps even excessively, and presents with healthy erectile tissue despite underdevelopment.â he stops jerking you to suck on your neck and smack your cunt with an open palm. âyou get that? thatâs big smart doctor-speak for âyou have a tiny dick.ââ he starts to jerk you again. âan adorable, tiny little baby dick. itâs almost like youâre a real boy.â
it's not always a clinical trial with him, though. heâs also into more casual, personal, intimate intox play. things like drinking games or sharing a bong together. he loves pressuring you to do one more shot, take one more hit, let yourself slip further and further. heâs such a bad influence.
as you two get better acquainted over time, youâll build trust in each other, and house will want to take more risks with you. he likes to call you on the phone at random with ideas.
he leaves you a voicemail, âyou ever hear of ketamine? itâs a dissociative anesthetic. used as an antidepressant, a party drug, and horse tranquilizer. let me know if youâre interested, because i wanna give you some and then fuck you in the ass. alright! gotta go, talk soon. later, fag!â
after enough sessions together, heâll pop the question: âhow do you feel about loss of consciousness? are you okay with waking up to me using you?â
he invites you to spend the night, and youâre greeted at the door with some water and a mysterious pill.
âwhatâs this?â you ask.
âwanna find out?â he answers.
a few sessions like that, and then house will escalate. suppose an offer of a pill turns into a surprise injection in your bicep.
if you donât pass out, youâll have to guess what he gave you based on how it makes you feel. on edge? heartâs racing? a stimulant. dizzy? canât think straight? a benzo. your bodyâs heavy, and the world seems like itâs lagging? ketamine.
but itâs not always obvious. youâll be hours into a session, paranoid, overanalyzing your senses, trying to pinpoint whatâs different than usual, but nothing sticks out. overall, you just feel⊠good. thatâs all it feels like. no wacky colors or crazy thoughts, just good. but house always makes you feel good. in fact, his mouth is making you feel really good right now. what the hell did he give you? itâs gotta be something, right?
heâll come up for air while heâs eating you out, âany guesses?â
youâre panting, gasping for all the air you can get in this brief momentâs respite, and you have no fucking clue. âi donât⊠fuck, i donât know. i canât tell.â
âhm! sounds about right.â
âwh⊠wha?â
âi gave you a sugar pill, dummy. thought you wouldâve figured it out by now. god, youâre stupid.â

we know EA interfered a lot with veilguard, i definitely do attribute the "sanitization" of the setting directly to EA's meddling, i even think to some extent taash's quest and the corporate representation feel of it all was influenced heavily by EA and not just weekes. and i think a lot of the companions being so shallow and their quests feeling half-baked is also mostly due to time constraints and rewrites/cut content-- the writers genuinely did do the best they could with what they had, and i feel for them and their frustrations. but. there are also just a lot of really bad decisions made elsewhere, too. like i said the racism has always been present in these games and it's always been a problem, it's literally baked into the worldbuilding, though i can definitely agree that some of it was potentially made worse specifically in veilguard due to constant rewrites and the loss of context and cohesion, but like... it was always there to begin with... and it's not "unfair" for players to point this out.
both things can be true-- EA absolutely fucked these people over, and we shouldn't be speculating conspiracy theory-type shit about the writers hating fans or whatever when we know. we know EA interfered, we know there were creative differences, we know they ruthlessly laid off a lot of the people that poured their blood, sweat, and tears into this game! EA is both stupid and actively malicious, they get no sympathy from me. veilguard absolutely is a casualty of the current state of the gaming industry. and i also think there were a lot of poor writing decisions made independently of that as well, that are fair to criticize and question. a lot of these problems are the same problems we've seen in every single DA game, and this consistency makes it clear this is not just an issue with corporate overreach.
but i really feel for everyone involved with making this game, this shit was clearly a very long and tiring fight, i can't even imagine the kind of constant corporate shitstorm they had to deal with for ten fucking years, and personally there is no NDA in the world that would keep me from talking shit. so these guys are stronger than me lol
#sorry i know these are just silly posts on tumblr dot edu but its important to me that people know im mostly being flippant#in some of my negative comments#like i dont think the writers are evil or whatever theyre just humans with biases that are very apparent in some of the things they write#and i also understand they got shafted big time and no one deserves the treatment they got#i could never be a narrative designer or writer in the gaming industry i would be so sickkkkkkkkkk#i follow this one author. the guy who wrote warm bodies. and he sent out a newsletter recently about how he was working on#a huge gaming project for a UK based company#and then the game got scrapped and they sealed all of his writing in a vault to just Never be released#oh i would be on the NEWS!!!!!! i couldn't do it. these people may be insufferable at times but they have my respect#for dealing with this shit. i could never#da posting

"You think we can win?"
Up until now, the room had been quiet, and a lingering sense of uncertainty that no one had spoken of was present.
But Heeseung had never been scared to speak his mind, not directing the question at anyone in specific.
Still all eyes undoubtedly fell to the two captains. Jaemin and Y/n, who sat beside each other, hands clasped together, fingers interlaced. It was only natural that at a time like this, the team would turn to the two of them, and they had no intention to disappoint.
As she looked up, Y/n lifted her head off Jaemin's shoulder, sucking in a breath before rising to her feet.
She refused to back down, standing tall despite the heat on her face, even though every part of her wanted nothing more than to be alone, curled away and to have kept to herself.
She had a team, and she owed it to them to stay strong. They had come so far, there was no way she would let this stop them from making it to the finals.
"I know we can win."
She reached behind herself, for the clipboard she had been messily scribbling notes on for the better half of the morning, until Jaemin had forced her away from strategising. "We have higher points than team B who we played last time, and we're tied for points with team C, so all we have to do is play our best," She smiles, looking at everyone in the room, and though no one mirrors her expression, the feeling of hope begins to rise from the dejected players, slowly, "There's no way we're losing our last game, and we're especially not going to let it be our first loss of the season."
Jaemin smiled, noticing the slightly concerned glint in her eyes, but not speaking much of it, only standing to his feet beside her with another even brighter smile. He wouldn't say it, but for a moment, the thought crossed his mind, maybe she was the better captain after all. That being said, he didn't care all that much about being better than her anymore, as long as he was with her, it would be enough.
"You haven't lost until you think you have," he speaks, remembering what he was intedning to do, "We're in a bad situation but we can always make the most of it. Let's play our best, and we'll walk out exactly how we planned." Jaemin nods, voice full of strength.
Still, the room feels cold, like the wind rushes past them, and happiness with it, low spirits and sighs of disbelief filling the room
Y/n let's her eyes meet Jaemin's beside her.
"We don't say it much" she starts off, "have to keep ourselves humble somehow don't we, but" she scans her eyes across the room, "you guys are some of the best players in the country, that has to count for something."
Jaemin chuckles, "I'd say it counts for a lot"
He hears the way Y/n gulps beside him, her eyes watering as she realises their words aren't being received as well as they'd hoped, his hand finding hers beside him. Though it's loose, his grip is comforting, motivating in the best of ways.
There's a moment of silence.
"Winning is a mindset." Y/n finally states, with perhaps the most rigidity she's ever presented in her voice, confident, and somewhat assertive, "You walk onto the court like you've already won and you will. That's what weâre going to do" she speaks with such certainty. It's almost hard not to believe, "We will win, it's just what we do."
"You're right" Isa stands up, triumphant "Losing is for losers."
"No shit" Chenle hums, sitting up from his previously slumped position, a couple others following as the quiet room begins to grow warmer, laughter echoing off the walls. Conversations follow, like usual pre game protocol, some tactics, some motivation. It doesn't take the room much longer to return to normal. Whatever normal was.
Things would be okay, whether they won or whether they didn't. But losing wasn't exactly one of their options tonight.
Y/n turns to Jaemin again, smiling with more conviction than earlier.
"You know, we make a good team" she looks down for a moment, "even after all that mess"
Jaemin let's his hand rests over her cheek, not specifically worried about who was watching, "Especially after all that mess"

Y/N and Jaemin stood at the centre of the court, the sound of the final buzzer still echoing in their ears. It was over.
The team had fought hard, each possession, each pass, each moment fraught with tension and determination.
The last few minutes of the game had felt like an eternity, with their opponents pressing them to the limit, but it was all over now. Just above, the scoreboard flashing the final score confirmed what theyâd worked so tirelessly forâvictory.
Jaemin, his chest heaving with each breath, looked over at Y/N. Clear in his eyes, triumph, and an unmasked sense of adoration. Everything he had once been so bitter for, so hurt over, it seemed like a small hurdle to pass, to finally be here today, watching Y/n smile his way with pride. The warmth in her smile, the passion, it was all he wanted to see, now, and for the days to come. This wasn't just winning a game. It was more than just state championships. It was knowing this was exactly where he wanted to be, going through the ups and the downs in life with her. The past seemed so small, so distant now, like all the struggles had never really been. But Jaemin wouldn't forget it, the pain, the heartache, and perhaps he preferred it that way, knowing just how much it took to get to being here, how much it meant. Because to Jaemin, Y/n was worth every struggle in the world.
The sweat on his forehead mixed with the tears that were starting to blur his vision. His eyes, usually full of confidence, were now wide with a slight disbelief and brimmed with joy.
Y/N, equally breathless, met Jaeminâs gaze. Their eyes locked, and for a moment, everything else faded into the background. The court was alive with celebration, the crowd shouting in exhilaration, but in that instant, it was just the two of them. Alone, like nothing else mattered.
Y/N's heart raced, not just from the adrenaline of the game, but from the raw emotion they had fought through togetherâevery late-night practice, every setback, every moment where doubt had tried to creep in.
As they approached each other, Jaemin couldnât help but pull Y/N into his arms, his hands pressing against her back as he held her close. âWe did it,â he whispered, the words soft but full of meaning. Y/N laughed, the sound light but genuine. âYou didnât doubt us for a second, did you?â Y/N teased, lifting her face to look up at him, her hand gently brushing his cheek.
Jaemin smiled, brushing his lips against Y/Nâs forehead, a kiss that was tender, full of everything they had been through and more. âNot when youâre by my side.â The words came out low and steady, carrying a depth that couldn't quite be fully explained. It didn't need to be.
Truly, they were in their own world, up until Jaemin heard his name being called from somewhere behind him, reluctantly pulling his eyes away from her.
"Jaemin, don't be a wuss give her a real kiss."
It was jeno shouting from the courtside bench, laughing at the way both of their cheeks flushed bright at his words along with Renjun.
That didn't sound so bad, Jaemin thought.
For a moment, he let his gaze meet Y/n's once again, "That alright with you peach?"
"More than alright."
When Jaemin pressed his lips to hers, soft, tender, and promising, Y/n couldn't help but smile. She hadn't expected to be doing this here, for everyone to see, her lips locked against his,but she didn't mind all that much, not when she was right where she wanted to be.
The arena around them was electricâteammates running to congratulate them, the crowd still roaring with excitementâbut in the middle of it all, they found their moment of peace, a quiet connection amid the chaos. They had fought for this victory together, and it was theirs. Their love, their effort, had carried them hereâthrough every tough game, every tough moment, and now, they had this championship to prove it, more importantly they had each other.
âLetâs go celebrate,â Y/N said, her voice soft but dripping with excitement, grabbing Jaemin's wrist.
He shot her a teasing smile, in true Jaemin fashion. âAfter we have a few more moments to ourselves?â
Y/N felt her heart swell, her cheeks darkening.
"I love you, you know" she chuckles, "I think i could tell you i love you as many times as there are stars in the sky, and it still wouldn't be enough."
"I love you too peach, more than all the stars in the universe combined."

Thereâs a move that RTD has been doing recently that I donât really have a Judgement on, like I canât say if itâs Good or Bad, but it is FASCINATING to my specific dr who preoccupations
He is (selectively, only sometimes) bringing racism that has always been present in dr who into the diegesis. I first noticed it with the Toymaker; instead of being a racial caricature in the same way his â65 appearance was, the 2023 toymaker is a character who poorly appropriates the signifiers of real-world cultures as part of his style of Play. Heâs not just an East Asian caricature non-diegetically played by a white man. He is, within the diegesis, a white man who intentionally disrespects earth cultures by imitating and parodying them. We only see him directly do this to white/western cultures (the German, French, American, and British accents he takes), but heâs clearly textually racist to characters of color in the episode.

Racism and racial stereotype are some of the Games the toymaker plays. Theyâre not erasing racist production/narrative decisions. Theyâre placing them in a new context.
âDot and Bubbleâ is the same; it recontextualizes previous adventures with all-white casts, not by reimagining them as more diverse, but by making that lack of diversity diegetic. Iâve seen some point out that previous episodes had, unexamined in the narrative, few characters of color either as a critique of âDot and Bubbleâ. How can RTD expect us to notice that the cast is all-white as something with narrative significance when weâve seen the exact same not ten years ago portrayed as a completely normal state of affairs? But I think part of the specific narrative moves that this episode is doing is that we can also examine those past episodes through this same new context. That the white Doctor, and his white companions, were not forced to encounter the circumstances that made the situation theyâre in all-white, and so they did not at all engage with them. This is not to say that these previous episodes were intentionally saying anything at all about racism; they were the product of racist writing and casting, and that canât be changed or ignored. But fan analysis as a school of thought is often far more concerned with the watsonian than the doylist, and RTD is aware of this as someone who grew up in fandom. This provides a watsonian path to exploring the racism of the showâs history, without sugarcoating or ignoring it.
Itâs worth noting when he doesnât do this as well; he seems far more willing to engage diegetically with racism than ableism, for example. Davros does not get any sort of redemption or examination as one of the only wheelchair users we see in the vastness of time and space; instead, he is simply no longer a wheelchair user. I think we should be paying a lot more attention to what gets folded in narratively and what doesnât because it seems very clear that RTD is intent on continuing doing this and itâs something Iâm keeping my eye on. Again, I donât know whether itâs Good or Bad that this is happening, but it sure as fuck is interesting

didnât that ship already sail before Jason died tho? With the diplomats son and really the entire Starlin đââïž
So I'm going to answer this, but before I do, I want to note that this is kind of derailing from my original point. I don't meant this to be a gotcha or anything because I know I do it myself all the time, but my argument was that "Jason was a bad kid" stories are boring and narratively stagnant, and in that vein it...kind of doesn't matter what canon does or doesn't say? I think we take refuge in "canon says this" or "canon says that" because we want to be objectively right, whereas "bad kid Jason stories are boring" is an aesthetic assessment and therefore subjective. Maybe someone out there loves "bad kid becomes bad adult" and finds it riveting.
Ultimately, despite being a huge nerd who loves continuity, I think a good story is more important than canon accuracy. Of course, ideally you have both, but also...takes on characters shift over the decades, and I have been trying to catch myself in those moments when I push my little metaphorical glasses up my nose and say "Well actually if you look at this comic from 1987, you'll find that..." So this is me, catching myself!
That said, I am absolutely going to talk about comics from 1987 now. Anyway the short answer is: yes and no.
(God that was an annoying response. I'm so sorry I'm like this. In my defense, I've been thinking about this ask all day.)
Anyway. The thing is, the way DC writes Robin!Jason now, they really only take a very small number of stories into account. Some writers are just looking at A Death in the Family; others might also acknowledge Jason's post-Crisis origin and/or the Felipe Garzonas story. A lot of them seem to be relying solely on distant memories of those stories, or osmosis; they certainly aren't doing a close reading of the text.
There's also a game of telephone that happens: from the instant Tim first showed up, DC started writing Jason as Fundamentally Unfit To Be Robin. See, if Bruce gets a child killed and then immediately enlists another one, he's irredeemable. But if Jason's death was due to some fundamental flaw in his own nature, a flaw that Tim does not possess, then Jason's death isn't Bruce's fault, and we can keep having Robin. It's really fascinating reading early Tim comics and watching this retcon play out in real time. (And particularly interesting because Tim is so specifically designed to be Just Like You, Tween Boy Reading This!) And that idea has really metastasized over the years when it's not super present in Jason's actual appearances.
So in a way, yes, the ship has sailed, because it doesn't actually matter what Jason was really like - it matters what the people writing and editing today's comics think he was like. And this is what they're basing that characterization on.
On the other hand...this is an ongoing universe, so no ship has truly sailed. When I got into comics, the saying was that "no one stays dead in comics except Jason Todd and Bucky Barnes." You see how well that worked out. Things change.
All it takes is one really good writer looking thoughtfully at Jason's time as Robin and realizing that even Starlin didn't write Jason the way people remember him. Like, in Death in the Family? Jason is not benched because he's too violent. Bruce is mad that he's reckless, but in the opening scene he literally thinks that he'll "let Jason work his aggression out" on the guys they're fighting (who, for the record, are child pornographers, so it's not like Jason is beating up relatively harmless muggers). That is not the reaction of someone who thinks Jason is out of control. In Jason's origin, Jason is angry because Two-Face killed his father - again, a very reasonable thing to be angry about! - but even though he's extremely upset and also only 12 years old, he makes the decision not to kill Two-Face. Again, not the actions of someone who is out of control. (And for the record, how many times has Dick nearly killed Tony Zucco?) And the Felipe Garzonas story is supposed to be ambiguous. We don't know that Jason killed him! (I mean, I think he did, but technically we don't know.)
All it takes is one really good writer recognizing that this handful of stories is a very small percentage of Jason's appearances, most of which were not necessarily retconned out by Crisis except for the ones that were directly contradicted by later stories. Yes, Jason's parents being circus acrobats who were eaten by crocodiles is no longer canon, but that doesn't mean Jason wanting to be in the school play or doing extra credit for fun isn't canon.
All it takes is one really good writer recognizing that at the same time that Starlin was writing his reckless, surly Jason in Batman, Mike Barr and Alan Davis had the sweetest little bean of a boy making Batman '66-style puns and ordering milk in bars in Detective Comics.
All it takes is one really good writer recognizing that most 15-year-olds are surly and reckless, and that's not a reason to condemn them.
I don't know if we'll ever get a writer who does any of that, but there's plenty of material for them to draw from if we do. And at least it wouldn't be the same story we keep getting over and over again, which was my original complaint.
So...here's hoping!

Had some rambling thoughts about Emmrich and his questline,
It's funny, aside from Solas with his exclusive "is he an asshole or is he a victim?" interpretations in the endgame, I think Emmrich is another example of where they jammed two conflicting characterizations of the story into each other and just let one win out depending on which decision the player made so that each option looks Valid and Good and relatively consequence-free.
like, Emmrich becoming a Lich should have just been a bad thing, right?
Not in the sense that I think the game itself should have pointed at the player and gone "you picked the wrong option", but as a logical extension of Emmrich's arc, was it not a bad thing?
I remember at one point writing that Emmrich becoming a lich didn't do anything to conquer his fear of death even though him letting go of Manfred is supposed to be him finally coming to terms with him parting from people, and how that was bad. But I think I missed the point
I think (especially when you look at the concept art around Emmrich,) the original point was supposed to be that becoming a Lich was Emmrich giving in to his fear of death, ironically dooming himself to an immortality where he is surrounded by death, starting with Manfred's death. That losing people to death, like his parents, is the real source of the fear that he was grappling with, but he does not understand this and grasps it only as a fear of his own end. That it is, actually, on the player to understand that and counsel him wisely. It's an ironic tragedy, a very classic story of someone meeting their fate on the road to avoid it. And that's why it makes sense that he's still not over Manfred, why he's afraid of losing a romanced Rook, why he apparently mourns Manfred still (something I missed.)
But the narrative wasn't really built around this? You understand what his fear of death is about immediately and then the choice to be a lich was presented in most of the dialogue as like, "neato! he conquered his fear of death because he won't ever die! yeah Manfred is dead now but at least we honored his sacrifice and let him rest :)" no one has a problem with what he did, no one calls him out on it, no one but Spite even really cares that Manfred is gone even though Emmrich could have saved him, it's just Cool that he's a lich now. The liches are heroic and so Emmrich's desire to join them is heroic, his fear of death is not what motivates him to make some eldritch monstrosity of himself, it is preventing him from achieving this noble goal to help the dead forever, and leaving Manfred behind is a noble sacrifice that will prevent him from becoming a tyrant lich who just resurrects people at will.
I think the idea of "don't resurrect someone who died just because you miss them, you have to let the dead rest" is a completely separate idea that, in this specific situation, doesn't mesh well with "you shouldn't screw over your loved ones just to preserve your own life, and you should treasure your time with people while you have it," but they interjected both morals and just let them respectively theme the lich and human routes, as if I'm not supposed to think about the bittersweet poignancy of the human ending, where Emmrich proudly watches Manfred grow and achieve, while everyone is high-fiving him over being a skelly man in the lich ending. Or for me to look at the human ending as heartwarming after they already said Emmrich was disturbing Manfred's well-deserved rest and giving up an opportunity to do a lot of good by doing this, and that no one really cared that he was "dead".
(Also, like, as a spirit, Manfred's "rest" was him being sent back into the Fade, which we can now understand to be a spirit prison that Manfred specifically possessed that body to escape, so u know.)
I do believe Emmrich becoming a Lich is at its core meant as a selfish/cowardly act to preserve himself at the cost of someone he treated like his own child, because that was the motivation they gave him from conception. Concept Emmrich was turning himself into a lich to become immortal. In the game, he specifically sought out the liches because he was afraid of death. This is the case even if they interject dialogue later making it seem like he's trying to do this for the sake of the "dead" and it's really important and him resurrecting Manfred would be selfish of him. I don't mind Emmrich saying these things, but I feel like they needed to be lies he was telling himself, something that is not backed up by other Mourn Watchers, or by Rook not being given the option to call him on it, or by the liches having a morally stringent screening process that he passes with flying colors and stuff like that, with the entire narrative just taking the things he says for granted. Maybe the liches should just not be heroic at all, actually. And like if we're going to have it be a plot point that there have been powerful, immortal liches. In Thedas. All this time. They needed to not give a shit about Thedas to at least help me with my suspension of disbelief.
Am I making any sense here, like there's two different reasons Emmrich wants to be a lich and how his fear of death is interacting with it and they don't feed into each other very well imo.
And like, the way he is now this character, who was written to deal with a fear of death, has nothing actually helpful to say about coping with a fear of death, imo. The routes' messaging is either "You don't need to fear death because you can just Not Die" or "You don't need to fear your loved ones dying because you can just Bring Them Back" instead of "Death of some kind is inevitable, so cherish the life you still have instead of spending it in fear."
Idk how psychiatrically sound it would have been. There were apparently people who struggle with Thanatophobia who were helped by Emmrich's character, but like, just talking narratives.
#I think he needed to be a Dirty Coward actually#(not necessarily all the time. but in this area where he's so close to achieving his goal?)#let it not be a good thing that he literally kills himself in his fifties because he's scared of old agefkgskdfgsfd#idk maybe this all was actually the intention but I just missed the stuff like banter that made it clearer#I had a hard time getting most of the banter in this game?#veilguard critical#also imagine if Manfred acts more humanlike because Emmrich finally recognized his personhood in letting go of lichdom for him#and thus has stopped treating him like an undead servant#rather than them portraying the whole thing as a selfish act (resurrecting him) that is rewarded (by Manfred growing in intelligence)#and him just treating Manfred like a servant despite him being a spirit of Curiosity does not inform anything about him or Manfred at all

âArknights/Limbus Company/etc is obviously very political, why are these incels playing it?â Hereâs a longer answer if youâre interested.
If you havenât been watching gacha communities for the past decade this might be confusing to you, but these guys see the games as just apolitical stories with a majority or all-female cast being there to titillate the male viewer. They are for his consumption. Itâs why in both eastern and western âgacha gameâ communities you can see them talking about how these games are better for having âbeautifulâ anime women versus the hideous hags of western media. Iâve seen so many people asking âhow are incels playing a game with so many strong female characters?â They see them not as âstrong femaleâ characters but rather âeyecandy made for meâ. tbh when it comes down to it I wouldnât call any of the designs in these games absolutely groundbreaking for the anime genre theyâre aiming for. Arknights even follows the standard âfully animal faced-guyâ and the female equivalent âsmall featured anime animal girl with some furâ. This doesnât mean the designs are bad or youâre foolish for enjoying them of course, there are a lot of fun ones. Anyway, you can see the same sentiment in the majority of anime communities as well. Like do you think that stereotype of an anime nerd who âloves 2D women but hates 3D womenâ means heâs a feminist because the 2D girl is still female?
To be frank, after some of the actions taken by these companies (ex. the firing of women for posting anything vaguely feminist) can you honestly say an âapolitical game with anime babesâ is not the way the games are often enjoyed? The company Yostar who publishes Arknights in Korea literally wrote a statement saying the game is apolitical and calling feminism a dividing force. If the publisher can say something so flippantly like this just to appease their incel fanbase, how can the game be making any meaningful, hardline progressive political statements? I am of course not saying this renders any positive message you get from these games moot nor am I saying itâs impossible for the writers to be passionate about their work, Iâm just relaying the thoughts of the incels/âgacha gamersâ playing them because there seems to be confusion. What Iâm writing here doesnât mean the worst interpretation of these games are their defining interpretations. Iâm trying to explain how the games that many people see as being antithetical to incel beliefs can have these same men as high-spending fans.
Gacha games are unique in the world of consumer media in their extremely close and constant relationship with the consumer. You have to not only love each characterâs design (and sometimes story) but also be willing to drop serious gambling money to âbuyâ them every single month. Itâs like merchandizing on steroids. I think the term âwhaleâ has been watered down since younger kids have started playing, but these people spend thousands per patch. Over the years Iâve heard about multiple games like this being sustained by just a couple of high spenders. In 2018 there was even a western news article about a man who had spent $70k+ on FGO. The publisher canât rock the boat too much to displease the consumer too many times without risking EoS. Every character design and story of a gacha game is affected by this FIRST while any artistic intent comes second.
A Korean woman who had lost her job due to similar âfeminist huntingâ tactics wrote an article describing the way these incel men think. I posted it here and part of it summarized: the men that play these games see themselves as buying and âowningâ the female characters in gacha games, who are often dressed and presented to them in a highly sexualized manner and will obey their commands. In the same way they âownâ these 2D women, they also want to own the thoughts of the real live female illustrators who work on the games. Therefore, if these women have expressed ideas that the male gamers find upsetting, they will be angry she doesnât conform to what they want like the servile 2D girl and do everything to get her fired (this is where she mentions Limbus Company as the most recent example of this happening).
You can argue for some of these games, maybe the girls arenât dressed super provocatively and give (you) shit instead of being a simpering doll, but in the end itâs not like they can physically walk away or stop speaking to you. For the âwaifuâ hunter guy itâs just a different type of anime girl to collect.
The stories in these games are generally not what gets targeted as much by incels. In gacha âgamerâ communities, especially the Korean incel ones, their main concerns are: how revealing are the summer swimsuits? How many women work for the company designing characters? and related, Are the male characters designed for women or for men and do they âlook gayâ? If you search through this blog, you can see them directly speaking about these things in regards to their hatred of Genshin Impact and Star Rail. All of these have also been encapsulated in the original Limbus Company incel attack: they hated that the summer female character looked more âclothedâ (wearing a skintight suit instead of a bikini) than the male summer character. They thought the collar necklace and open shirt on the male summer character meant he was âa slaveâ for the female viewers, so obviously it was designed by a woman. When they learned a man designed and illustrated those characters, they searched to find a female illustrator who worked in the game and went after her instead. These guys WERE FANS that played the game beforehand and didnât think anything in the story was upsetting enough to attack the company about. They were familiar enough with the works of Project Moon to name their little group after an antagonizing force in one of PMâs previous (non-gacha) videogames. And Project Moon saw them as such a significant part of their gacha fanbase that they wrote an immediate apology and fired the artist. How do these actions in reality inform their fiction and the interpretation of it? Getting this out of the way, they were NOT in any danger, the âfansâ were not clamoring to get in their offices or camping outside, they were let in and calmly had a meeting with some employees at the office. You can still find photos of them goofing around, the ridiculous write up they brought with them and a transcript of the conversation. This was not a âguy shows up at Mihoyoâs offices with a knifeâ situation. In the end it was a financial and moral loss for the studio with many new and longtime fans completely dropping the games and Limbus Company taking one of the biggest financial and D/MAU drops for a gacha Iâve ever seen. You can read more regarding the ramifications of this here, this post is already pretty long for this website anyway.
Again Iâm not writing this to shame anyone who plays these games, loves their characters or enjoys their stories. I donât really care either way, and I obviously find the genre interesting or else I wouldnât have been monitoring it and the fans for a decade. I just want to shine a light on the thoughts of the more âincelâ gamers that play some of these games since I have seen a lot of genuine confusion as to why they would play them. In the future my aim is to write a more in-depth post about these issues, their history and the way antifeminists think.
