How Mahoro was initially presented in early promo materials and the first episode OP & ED
When Mahoro was first revealed, she was presented as this cute and peppy love interest character that you typically see in shoujo manga. And when I first look at her, I immediately thought she is kind of an odd duck due to the delinquent-like setting BUCCHIGIRI?! is.
Tumblr media
The promo teaser even showed a split second shot of her just being the cute character who would give the main characters some motivation (well just Arajin lol). This of course made me fear that she would be a plot device that would cause a shitty ass love triangle.
OP and ED gets a bit weird in this. When she is presented in the OP, all of the guys (sans Kenichiro and Marito) are immediately taken aback by her. In the ED, all of the main guys are dancing with her, have few shots of them getting ship teased with her and when she did the heart hands thing, all of them are immediately charmed by her.
Tumblr media
(Wish I could include all guys being heart handed by Mahoro but I want to put in more photos)
But in the main series? Nope. None of the guys except for Arajin (obviously) really like her or are close to her. And that’s because underneath her cute appearance, lies a selfish and toxic girl who only wants her brother’s attention only. And by doing so, she ‘dates’ guys in hopes that they become the new leader of Siguma and have Marito step down so that she can have him all for herself.
Tumblr media
The Siguma members relationship with Mahoro:
- Outa is seen being exasperated by her fangirling antics in the first episode.
- One of the mooks commented that Mahoro dated guys 24 times all so that they can be beaten up by Marito, satisfying her brocon fantasies (which in truth they’re ’tests’ to see if they can beat her brother or not)
- Hagure is shown to be intimidated by her and kept running in circles while being behind Jabashiri’s back in the second episode.
- Jabashiri hardly noticed, much less pay attention to Mahoro.
- Marito is the exception since he is the older brother but even he has limits if the face he made in the second ep is of any indication.
Tumblr media
This even applies to Minato Kai as well:
- Kenichiro, Kamao and Zabu doesn’t know her yet but in the case of the latter two, they probably know her in passing but otherwise they hardly paid attention to Mahoro.
- Matakara does but he dislikes the way she is manipulating Arajin for personally selfish reasons. When he tried to confront her, she straight up ignored him. When he did it again but with force, she screeched like a siren and ran off.
But with all that said, let’s take a glimpse of Mahoro’s character:
- Presents herself as a shojo manga-esque character.
- But in actuality, she’s a massively unhinged brocon.
- toxic and manipulative. All it takes is using a hand heart sign and guys would immediately be ‘motivated’ by her.
- Is known to go out with guys but has never really shown any care about their personal lives (if her actions in 1st and 3rd episode are of any indication)
- morally selfish but not downright evil. Just selfish.
- can fight back if she wants to.
- doesn’t care about anyone other than her brother.
- hates being touched by other random guys who tried to question her.
- ignores people who tried to confront her about her motives.
Tumblr media
I know that I’ve made quite a few posts about Mahoro but she strikes me as an interesting character despite her actions in today’s episode but at the same time, I do hope that she at least have character development along the way, have a backstory that explains why she is the secretly toxic and selfish brocon that she is today and last but not least not thrown or sidelined into a unconventional damsel in distress.
Anyways, peace! ✌🏻

I Think Katsuki is Going to Give Izuku His Quirk in the End
(rewritten here)
There are only two chapters left, so who knows, I haven't seen leaks, but I think there's some compelling evidence supporting the possibility that Katsuki will end up quirkless and Izuku will be given his quirk. And I felt like talking about it. Hi.
*Manga spoilers through chapter 428, Vigilantes, and the Heroes Rising movie*
In chapter 304, Izuku finds out that he's likely the last person who will ever hold One For All, since it can only be transferred to a quirkless person now. Izuku is the 9th, and final, user of OFA.
Tumblr media
Except, the thing is, this isn't true.
I'd been going with the understanding that OFA can't be passed on again, but that's not quite what it says in the manga. They say he might be the last wielder and that it can't go to an ordinary person anymore.
This is true, in order to hold the power of OFA, one has to be quirkless, because it eats away at one's life force to have multiple quirks added to their own (as we see with the 4th user).
And this also isn't true, because of the Heroes Rising movie.
The really crazy thing I realized is that this contradiction, doesn't actually contradict what's been established in manga canon.
So, what counts as canon?
Everything, apparently.
In Heroes Rising, there are two little kids at the center of things, Katsuma and Mahoro.
In chapter 384 of the manga, those same two little kids showed up. Then they show up again in chapter 405.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meaning, the events of that movie… happened?
And that means that there aren't nine OFA users; there are ten.
All Might Vestige
In chapter 362, Katsuki dies. R.I.P. Kacchan, who has now also died in the anime.
But near death, the person he sees in his final moments is All Might. Not Izuku, not his family, not his friends, his teacher. And not just All Might, All Might's non-verbal glowing vestige.
Tumblr media
Why this version of All Might, instead of the man?
I have an idea, and it has to do with Heroes Rising.
I thought Vestige-Might was just a stylistic choice on Horikoshi-sensei's part. All Might symbolizes Katsuki's dream, he's the person he idolized his whole life, and he's thinking about things he regrets in his final moments; an autograph from his hero, such a simple thing he never got to ask for.
But then Katsuki stopped being dead and all of a sudden Mahoro and Katsuma showed up in the manga, twice, and I had to reevaluate my perception of MHA canon and what qualifies.
Let's rewind a bit to chapter 254, before the PLF raid so I can make a quick point (for others like me who are used to supplementary material not being acknowledged in, or as, canon).
When Eraserhead and Present Mic are talking to Kurogiri and trying to coax Shirakumo out of him, Eraserhead talks about Shirakumo saving a cat, after Aizawa had left it behind.
For like four years I wondered why the story kept trying to make me care so much about Shirakumo and his friendship with the other two, with so little information given, only to find out not long ago that the entire backstory is covered in Vigilantes.
Which means Vigilantes is canon.
Tumblr media
Which means, with the inclusion of movie characters in the main manga… it's all canon. Searching the subreddit and wiki also confirmed this for me.
So if Heroes Rising is canon, that drastically changes the context and potential meaning of Vestige-Might appearing to near death Katsuki.
Because in Heroes Rising, Izuku transfers OFA to Katsuki to defeat Nine.
Tumblr media
When it's over, OFA doesn't stay with Katsuki; it goes back to Izuku and Katsuki has no memory of this ever happening. But Katsuki does hold OFA for a short time.
That means that Katsuki is the 10th OFA holder.
Like I said, there aren't nine, there are ten holders.
Like, did it bother anyone else that nine was such an awkward number for OFA holders? It feels incomplete, right?
Considering the events of the manga, this is a potentially huge deal with some interesting implications.
In the final battle in the manga, Deku passed OFA to Shigaraki, one quirk at a time. OFA, the quirk, is officially dead and gone; only the embers remain in Izuku and Izuku is quirkless again.
But like I said… since the movies are canon, then it's also possible that a small ember is also in Katsuki. He didn't hold it long enough to have his own vestige like All Might, but he was still a holder.
So, what if Katsuki was seeing Vestige-Might within the OFA vestige world and that really was All Might? Glow-Might couldn't speak, just like how we see him in Izuku's vestige space; and iirc, he can't speak, because All Might is still alive.
Now, Katuski only saw All Might, not any of the other holders, but that also makes sense. They have no emotional investment in Katsuki, he barely held the quirk, and he doesn't know who they are aside from what he read in All Might's notes. But All Might does care about him, so it makes sense that the piece of himself that exists within OFA would appear in his student's final moments, through the ember of OFA inside Katsuki.
As I was looking to find chapter numbers for this, I ended up flipping through the All Might vs. AFO fight by happenstance and realized something else:
Tumblr media
This is from chapter 403. It looks like All Might is about to die and as he thinks this is the end for him, his life flashes before his eyes and he looks back at the path he walked and notices these balls of light on the ground. He thinks, "And what I saw… seemed so very significant."
Hey. You notice anything about this bright ball of light in the center of the panel?
Tumblr media
At the end of the chapter, we see Katsuki and Izuku holding those balls of light, with All Might watching from the background, holding his own ball of light. I thought this represented him being their teacher, pushing them forward to become great heroes, a passing of the torch to the next generation of heroes. He never had kids, so this is how he passes on his legacy, through the aspirations of all the children who looked up to him.
Or.
Or it is a passing of the torch, but literally.
Dynamight's Final Fight
I don't know if anyone noticed this, it might not be significant, their costumes get destroyed all the time, but…
In his fight with Shigaraki, as ShigAFO tells him he'll never be anything more than Deku's hanger on, Katsuki's costume is destroyed. Going back a few chapters from 362 (R.I.P. Kacchan), visually, it feels like we're being shown his dream of becoming a pro hero get destroyed bit by bit. His arm gets crushed and twisted, his gauntlets are shattered, his mask gets torn off, he gets an upgrade to his costume and it's barely effective, and it seems from the narration that his quirk was damaging his body from the inside out (like how OFA would do to Izuku).
That fight looks like the end for him, his heart literally explodes (or gets pierced, idk), but he gets back up, saves All Might, and has a grand finale against AFO. The last thing we see him do is propel Izuku the final step to deal that last punch and end things. It's Izuku's story, so of course he lands the final blow, but the point is, Katsuki the one to support him then, because it could never be him.
When we see him in the hospital after it's all over in ch. 424, not only is he told his arm possibly never going to regain normal function, let alone enough to use his quirk like he did before, but his heart is also damaged. We already know that he uses support items to store up his sweat, and I imagine in the MHA world a prosthesis could function similarly in hero work, yet he wants to do the long and painful rehabilitation, despite possibly never regaining function. This is not to criticize his choice to keep his arm at all, I just thought it was interesting, considering how similar he's shown to be to Mirko and how he chose the opposite of what she did.
This feels like a very important choice, because of the support item aspect.
But the most interesting thing in this scene was that he mentions that Izuku never had a quirk to begin with, right before he finds out that Izuku is quirkless again.
(side note: Both Izuku and All Might fought quirkless in the final battle and I love that for them? Like Izuku was technically quirkless when he dealt that final weather changing blow, incredible.)
How Does OFA Actually Work?
Once All Might gave OFA to Izuku, he no longer had the quirk, just the embers. He couldn't pass on the ember that was left inside him and those embers couldn't be stolen. Izuku can't pass on what he has left either. The actual OFA quirk is gone from the previous holder once it's transferred.
But I think another reason that All Might or Izuku couldn't pass anything on again after giving it away, is that they were both quirkless. In the absence of the quirk-passing quirk, there's nothing left of their own quirk factors to pass on, because they never had one. And all of the other holders died/were killed so it wasn't tested as a possibility.
If you think about it… didn't Nana still have Float once she passed OFA onto All Might? All Might never unlocked the other users' quirks (he never had Float) so there's no test he could have done for this either. As far as all the other holders knew, OFA was just lifetimes of built up strength passed on, none of them made true contact with the vestiges to learn about its true power. There would have been no reason to assume that their quirk was forfeit once OFA was passed on, because they didn't know that the actual unique quirk factor was stored.
But if she still had Float after transfer, I would imagine that means that only a copy of the quirk, a small piece, is what's passed on in OFA and that the original stays with the person. One For All isn't eight quirks, it's a single quirk with the abilities of the predecessors. Otherwise, if Shinomori died of old age at a very young age, All Might living as long as he did while holding onto it for longer makes no sense.
If OFA gives, while AFO takes, it also makes sense that OFA doesn't take the person's original quirk.
So what does that mean for canon right now?
If Katsuki is the 10th OFA holder and if a small bit of OFA lives inside him, it was unused, and therefore undiminished, because he never knew it was there—he doesn't remember the events of the movie. He hasn't been using OFA like All Might used it until it was barely a flicker, so the piece that could be inside him is still burning brightly.
He can't pass on OFA anymore, just like All Might and Izuku; the actual OFA quirk is gone.
But Katsuki isn't quirkless.
OFA is a quirk meant to pass power from one person to another. If Izuku and All Might could still make use of OFA's strength, who's to say that it's transfer ability couldn't also be used via the embers? Remember, they didn't have their own quirks to try this out and everyone before them had died early.
Katsuki would be the only person left who could possibly use it pass on a quirk again, because he actually has his own quirk. And while Izuku was the last person who could hold it as a quirkless person (a rarity in his generation), as a quirkless person once more, he's also the perfect vessel to receive a quirk using the last remaining bits of OFA.
So how does this not contradict manga canon?
Well, like I mentioned, the vestiges tell him that he might be the last wielder of OFA, because now it can only go to someone quirkless, and there are fewer and fewer quirkless people born in the world.
Yet, in Heroes Rising, Izuku transfers it to Katsuki, who is not a quirkless individual.
At the end of the movie, once Nine is defeated, Katsuki can't hold onto it and it goes back to Izuku. This aligns exactly with what the vestiges told him. Katsuki just got a taste of the super strength aspect of the quirk, but it didn't stay with him. All Might posits that it's because he passed out before the transfer finished, but changes his mind into thinking it was a miracle granted by the predecessors (since OFA has been shown to have a will).
But what if he was wrong, and it went back to Izuku, because Katsuki literally couldn't hold onto it, as it was too much for his body?
In Heroes Rising, Nine (whose name feels very significant now), was given the ability to hold nine quirks and use eight, and it was too much for him, he had to be genetically modified by Garaki. And even then, he was trying to steal Katsuma's Cell Activation quirk, because his body was breaking down the more he used them. I could be mistaken of course, but I think we're given a villain like this to show what multiple quirks do to the body and the movie ended the way it did, not breaking canon rules for OFA, because we're seeing that it was always impossible for Katsuki to hold onto it. Nobody but Izuku, a quirkless person, can.
We already know Izuku was the 9th holder, but I actually just realized, Izuku was holding onto and could use eight quirks. But if Katsuki was the 10th user, that means he was also possibly holding onto nine while being able to use eight, just like Nine. If I'm mistaken, someone please correct me, but look:
Yoichi's original quirk to pass on power
Power Stocking Quirk gifted by AFO
Gear Shift
Fa Jin
Danger Sense
Black Whip
Smokescreen
Float
(and a copy of Katsuki's Explosion could have been in there, never unlocked or known about since he doesn't have a vestige)
Possible coincidence? Absolutely. But, I mean—
And as for how Katsuki would even know that he has OFA if he doesn't remember: He saw Vestige-Might specifically and All Might was there after the battle with Nine.
Katsuki knows about the vestiges from Izuku. He figured out that All Might was the one who gave Izuku his quirk, despite having no reason to believe that quirk transfer was possible aside from Izuku telling him he got his quirk from someone else. Katsuki is smart enough to figure out that Vestige-Might appearing to him could possibly mean something OFA related.
As For Why Katsuki Might (Possibly) (Probably) (Maybe?) Give Up His Quirk
Because he didn't get the prosthesis. And because of his final fight.
Tumblr media
I already mentioned this, but to me, it feels like he's resigning himself to a decision. As if he wants to keep both of his hands as a reminder of what he used to be able to do with them and there's no need for a support item like prosthesis, if he's not going to be using his quirk anymore. If he's giving it up.
Of course, he doesn't yet know that Izuku is quirkless at that point, but the author knows and that's who controls the character's actions.
We've learned a lot about Katsuki throughout the story. We know Katsuki has changed from the punk he was at the beginning. We know he's been paying as much attention to Izuku as Izuku has to him. We know he's sorry and wants to make things up to him. He apologized in front of their entire class and didn't expect forgiveness or for things to change between them. He can't undo years of bullying, there's no way to take that back, the past can't be undone, but he's trying to atone. He wants to atone.
We know he cares about Izuku, we know he would literally die for Izuku, and we also know that Katsuki was devastated at the news that Izuku is quirkless again. He's actually cried a lot in the story, but I think that was the first time he cried for someone else's sake. They were his first tears that weren't from frustration, and his thoughts in that moment were "what did I do to you?"
We also know that Katsuki wanted to be the strongest hero, and honestly… he kind of already achieved his goal.
From chapter one he's gotten a ton of media attention—the sludge villain, winning the sports festival, the kidnapping and rescue (coinciding with All Might's end), defeating a villain with Shouto after they got their provisional licenses. He's literally famous. People have taken notice of him with everything he's done the entire story, for good and bad, and then the entire world saw him defeat AFO and help Deku make it to Shigaraki to land that final punch. After a rocky start and being painted as villainous, he showed he could be a great hero and it was acknowledged by the entire world. There isn't really anywhere else for his story to naturally go as a hero.
It's literally physically impossible for a single human to surpass All Might without OFA, which was Katsuki's goal at the beginning. And at the end, he just wanted him and Izuku to keep chasing after each other, always trying to catch up forever, but now they can't.
It's also why Endeavor's story is so tragic. Can you imagine being Endeavor when he found out about OFA and that the game had been rigged against him from the start? He spent his entire life trying to be the strongest, not number one, but the strongest. He put all his energy into surpassing All Might, abused and neglected his family in pursuit of that goal, cast aside everything else, and then he finds out his entire life had been pointless, because All Might was using a cheat code. Endeavor never stood a chance to begin with. He could have spent that time getting to know his kids, or marrying someone out of love, or making one (1) single friend, but instead he was the number two hero for twenty-six straight years and went nowhere. His ambition meant nothing.
It's been reiterated time and again in the story that Katsuki and Endeavor are parallels. Shigaraki was right that Katsuki would never catch up to Deku, it's impossible. He would have lived his entire life like Endeavor in a meaningless pursuit. And if we look at Endeavor's conclusion, well...
Endeavor had planned to give up hero work and spend the rest of his life looking at Touya and atoning to his family. He ended up being forced to by his injuries, but he had still planned to give up the thing in his life that had given him the most meaning and pride (when it should have been his family). Hero work was the thing he valued most, and so Endeavor gave it up for what really mattered.
For Katsuki, the thing that gave him the most meaning and pride in his life was his quirk. And striving to be the best, just like Endeavor. He valued that over his friendship with Izuku, the thing that really mattered. It's kind of undeniable at this point, leaving shipping completely out of the equation, that Izuku is Katsuki's most important person.
So with Endeavor's conclusion, and how the manga is currently going… I can't help but wonder if that final fight against OFA was supposed to be Katsuki's big send off. A huge spectacle with everyone in the world watching, because that was the end of the road for him; his last big battle, not just in the story, but ever.
What if that was the end of his journey to becoming a pro hero?
What if we got to see his quirk evolve one last time and take down the baddest bad guy, because it was the last time he was ever going to be physically able to use his quirk?
Is the logical conclusion to his story for him to give up that thing he valued over what was important to him, just like Endeavor did in the end? Would him giving that up symbolize him not following in Endeavor's footsteps of obsessive drive that eclipses everything else in his life?
Is Katsuki is going to give Izuku his Explosion quirk, using that last bit of OFA?
And what if Katsuki is going to end the story quirkless and was always intended to from the very beginning?
And here's where I get back to those lights.
Because I think it (possibly) confirms what I was saying in the beginning.
There are nine One For All users, according to the manga. We've established that that's not actually true if the movies are canon, and they are. There are ten OFA users.
These are the full two panels previously mentioned of what All Might was thinking at the start of 403 when he looked back at his path.
He thinks, "As for what I've done? I just happened to glance back at my path. And what I saw… seemed so very significant."
Let's see how many lights there are as he looks back at his path:
Tumblr media
There are ten (10) lights [insert TNG joke here], not nine. And the big one, smack dab in the center, is shown with Katsuki's explosions around it.
I thought for a moment that these were possibly just the stored quirk factors, but Izuku and All Might are quirkless, so there wouldn't be ten lights if that were the case.
I think it's showing us that these lights represent the holders of OFA.
Katsuki is that tenth center light, confirming that he's the 10th OFA user.
Tumblr media
This panel right here of the child Katsuki and Izuku with their balls of light? This is on the last page before Izuku sees Katsuki alive again after finding him dead and losing his mind. Please note All Might in the background, also holding his own ball of light.
And remember this from chapter 362 (R.I.P. Kacchan)?
Tumblr media
It's the same image as Katsuki's final thoughts. The balls of light are the trading cards they got that day, but wait for it—
In 403, right before the panel of them as children holding the balls of light, we see that same center ball of light on the ground of All Might's path again, then a panel of Katsuki holding his All Might trading card beneath it. Almost as if the story is trying to tell us something about what that trading card represents and what Katsuki holding it really means.
Tumblr media
Right before we see their expressions as they lock eyes, as Izuku realizes Katsuki isn't dead, it shows the two of them as little kids, happy to have both gotten All Might trading cards.
I don't think the trading cards we see here are really trading cards.
Tumblr media
This whole chapter, the last two pages especially, was completely re-contextualized for me after noticing there are ten lights.
Like I said earlier, All Might didn't just pass the torch metaphorically, I think he passed it literally.
OFA is always represented as flame, as embers, etc... Those trading cards don't just symbolize their friendship, or their dreams, or their admiration, I think Horikoshi-sensei is showing us that they both have the same trading card, because they both have the same thing inside of them. Something passed onto them from All Might, because All Might is also shown with his own ball of light.
Why would All Might have his own All Might trading card…?
The trading cards aren't trading cards, they're One For All. Katsuki and Izuku hold the embers that All Might passed down to both of them.
Remember, the scene in 362 and 403 are exactly the same. They're Katsuki's memories. How is All Might's near death vision showing him memories that aren't his? Well, if they're connected through One For All, it makes sense that he sees that, because that's literally impossible otherwise. He could see them as high schoolers, as middle schoolers when he first me them, but not as small children in a very real scene that actually happened.
And if OFA is still alive inside Katsuki, I think that means he can transfer Explosion, because he has his own quirk factor.
If Izuku and All Might could still use everything that made OFA what it was, despite not having it anymore, there is nothing saying that the transfer ability wouldn't also work.
The only thing stopping them from trying is having nothing to pass on, because they were quirkless. Katsuki does have something he can pass on, though.
And who better to receive Katsuki's Explosion quirk, than the person who'd spent his entire life watching him?? Izuku is the perfect person, and I imagine the only person Katsuki would deem worthy of receiving it. He knows Katsuki's moves almost as well as Katsuki himself.
At USJ when the Shigaraki attacks, Izuku puts on a brave face and fights just like Kacchan. When he learns from Gran Torino, he realizes that he has to be more loose and fluids with his movements, just like Kacchan. In [training exercise I can't remember] Katsuki notices that Izuku copied his moves. He knows how Katsuki's moves work without him even telling him.
What if the story came full circle and Izuku was constantly emulating Katsuki in the beginning, because it was foreshadowing that he was always supposed to end up with his Explosoin quirk?
Can you imagine how good that payoff could be?
All that paying attention to Kacchan, admiring him, copying his moves, trying to be like him, having him as his image of victory, knowing a frankly alarming amount about it, what if that was all 430 chapters of foreshadowing? This is why I asked if maybe Katsuki was always intended to end up quirkless.
What if the thing that caused the rift in their friendship is going to be the thing that heals it, as Bakugou's ultimate acknowledgement that quirkless nerd Izuku was always a hero and deserves to be one more than anyone else?
What if giving his quirk to Izuku, who is once again quirkless, is his ultimate atonement and the thing that Horikoshi-sensei said back in like 2022 (paraphrasing because I don't remember, please don't quote me) that he hoped would make Bakugou fans and haters alike both happy? Because I thought it was killing him (R.I.P. Kacchan), but this feels like it makes more sense.
I think swapping places from where they started would be the perfect conclusion for their friendship and Katsuki's journey. I don't know about the whole story, and I don't care to speculate about that, but for the two of them, this feels right to me.
That said, I am aware there are some
Potential Issues With This
1. Would Izuku accept the quirk? Probably not, but as we saw with Yoichi and Kudou, the recipient doesn't have to be aware in order to receive OFA; it's on the giver to will it to them. The recipient does not have to consent, all Katsuki has to do is spit in his food, really.
2. There's the issue of Izuku trying to give it right back. But All Might only managed to hold onto OFA's embers for a few months after nurturing it for 40 years. Izuku only held OFA for a little over a year, he probably won't have the embers very long and it's already been a while since the final battle. All Katsuki would have to do is wait a few weeks for the last embers of it to fade from Izuku before transferring it, ensuring he couldn't pass it back. Since Katsuki only held OFA for less than a day, that would probably use up the last embers of OFA for good.
3. The lack of acknowledgement of the events of Heroes Rising in the main manga is a MASSIVE writing issue. For me, this is the thing that makes the scenario most unlikely, because as of July 24, 2024, there are only two (2) chapters left to go and that's not much time to explain movie events in order to not have a quirk transfer seem like it came out of nowhere or breaks established canon.
3a. But, like I mentioned before, this was already done this with Vigilantes concerning Shirakumo's backstory. We're supposed to feel empathy and compassion for their long dead friend, but no real work was put into the main manga to establish how close their relationship was, we're just told that they were friends and classmates. We get some hints to the events in Vigilantes in the main manga, but they don't carry as much weight without the full context.
Meanwhile in Vigilantes, Shirakumo and Aizawa are very close and they're all friends, but tbh, Mic is basically a third wheel. The entire arc reads like a tragic story of lost love, Shirakumo's death changed everything for Aizawa. After Shirakumo's death, Aizawa goes off on his own, works himself to the bone, doesn't sleep because he's training all night (the origin story of the sleeping bag), is depressed, stops trying in classes, he's told his quirk is suited for working with others (which is true) yet he goes independent, basically abandons Mic and the plans the three of them had to start an agency together (he says they were going to be a duo or a trio and let me tell you, Mic was not included in the duo)—it's depressing.
No wonder Aizawa was the one who got so worked up at seeing Kurogiri; Shirakumo meant a lot to him, his entire world shifted when he died. And no wonder Mic was so uncharacteristically reserved and pissed about the whole situation; he'd had to watch Aizawa retreat into himself for years after Shirakumo died, and then his ghost showed back up as a villain. Aizawa's arc is pretty long in Vigilantes, I think it's an entire volume, so it would bring the plot to a grinding halt if it were all included in the main manga, but unfortunately, none of this information feels effectively communicated through subtext in the main manga.
In my opinion, Vigilantes is a necessary read to understand several things the main manga. I loved it, and I highly recommend it (despite some very questionable scenes); imo, Number 6 vs. The Crawler felt like it did a better job at what at least two final fights in MHA were going for. But I'm not a fan of writing that requires you to have read outside material to fill in gaps. That said, I've also seen this happen before in American comic books, so I think it kind of makes sense that that influence would carry over and he'd rely on supplementary material like Vigilantes and the movies.
So getting back to my point, if Katsuki does have OFA, like those lights and Vestige-Might seem to imply, I'm kind of thinking it will be the same sort of situation, where it's expected the reader will have watched Heroes Rising. Especially since Horikoshi-sensei drew so many illustrations with Mahoro and Katsuma.
The ten lights, the fact that Nana still had Float (afaik), Vestige-Might, the fact that Heroes Rising was acknowledged at least twice in the main manga, Endeavor's ending, the trading cards, etc… all make me think that this is the conclusion for Katsuki that Horikoshi-sensei was working towards: quirkless Katsuki and Izuku with Explosion. But I also know that just because something is set up and foreshadowed, doesn't mean that the author will actually go through with it, especially in a weekly manga where anything can interfere with the story at any moment. Maybe I'm close to right and maybe I'll be so far off it's not even funny.
But who knows. There are only two chapters left and some writing choices have been confusing to say the least. I just hope we get a satisfactory ending, no matter what it is. Thank you, Horikoshi-sensei for all your hard work.
What do you think?
Do you think Katsuki will give Explosion to Izuku?
Do you think Izuku will become the first quirkless pro hero instead?
Do you think Katsuki could become the first quirkless pro hero? How wild would that be!
Do you think they'll go to a fair and share a crepe and we'll finally get that holding hands scene and the quirk will be transferred via saliva and Izuku will have an oh shit bakudeku canon moment thinking back to his words to Toga? Unlikely with how many chapters are left, but I would scream.
I haven't seen anyone talk about this before, I really only look at ship tags, but this feels pretty bkdk and I'd imagine I would have seen it at some point if so, especially around the time 362 (R.I.P. Kacchan) and 424 dropped. I don't really read theories, as I generally don't care where the story goes and am just along for the ride, but if someone has said all this before me, sorry for being redundant!
I hope this wasn't too repetitive, thanks for reading ✌️Don't mind my blank blog, this is just a side blog on a side account, feel free to let me know if I've made any mistakes, I'm not an expert on the story by any means and welcome correction.
I haven't looked at leaks (if they're out, I don't check for that) so that would be wild if anything I mentioned here was in them, but tbh I doubt it, haha.

Hello, I hope I can ask you this. I was exploring the Jp side of YouTube and watching review and discussion videos on MHA. I found a couple of popular videos on the potential future relationships of all the characters, and as expected, they were all the default m/f pairs. But the comments took me by surprise. Most of them were about “greentea,” obviously, but I could also see comments on very odd pairs like Eri and Deku, Mahoro and Bakugo, and even Eri and Mirio quite frequently! (Even typing it out is making me cringe)😭😭😭 However, I also saw a couple of comments on Bakugo and Deku, but very few, probably 1 out of 100. I’m really curious about how bkdk is perceived by the general Japanese audience, is it even taken seriously? Maybe I just couldn’t find any review videos that even considered them as a pair, but the ones I saw were kinda popular too; they had plenty of views. So yeah, I’d love to know your thoughts on this, again I hope this is ok to ask🥹
Also I just discovered you and I love all your content!😭 I’ve exhausted them haha, thank you so much for your work! Lots of love! 🩷🩷🩷
First off, I want to mention that I have a hitherto unspoken rule to not comment on ships other than bkdk. I know you are asking about bkdk specifically, but the framework of the question brings other things into the discussion, so I want to say this clearly to discourage follow-up questions from others which may be angled toward different ships or ship discourse in general. Bkdk is what I’m here for, so bkdk is what I’m going to talk about.
In regards to your actual question, I’m gonna answer by giving you some information about how fandom works in Japan.
Bkdk is the most popular mha ship in Japan in terms of fanworks, by a wide margin.
Japanese fandom is, compared to English-speaking fandom, heavily centered on fanart. Japan has frequent doujinshi (independently published comic) events where dozens or even hundreds of artists come to distribute their work, and many of these have been going on for decades. It is not hyperbole to say that some kind of doujinshi event, showcasing brand new work, is going on in at least one major city in Japan every single month, and these events are attended by hundreds and sometimes thousands of people. Sometimes there are two or more events in a single month.
To be clear, doujinshi are not only fanworks, which is why I specified “independently published comic.” Lots of doujin are original works, and many now well-known mangaka got their start, gained connections, and built their early fanbase through participating in doujin circles (collaborative groups of artists who create work under the same independent label). My point is that visual art and comics are so huge in Japan it is hard to overstate their prominence in the culture as a whole, let alone fandom culture.
So, fanart and doujin are huge, and among fans who make fanart/doujin, bkdk is wildly popular.
The thing you have to ask yourself is, does fanwork represent general readership? Drawing fanart is the most common way to show your love for a series in Japan, but that definitely doesn’t mean every reader is drawing fanart. In my opinion, fanfic is prominent in USA-centered fandom, but obviously only a fraction of the people who enjoy a series are going to write fanfic for it.
I don’t think we can really quantify the opinions of general readership this way. I mean, when you scroll through the comment section of the same kind of clickbaity, hot-topic videos about anime/manga that English-speaking audiences watch, do you feel like those comments accurately reflects what most people think? I know I don’t. There is always going to be a selection bias, because “people who comment on youtube videos” also only represent a fraction of “people who read mha.”
Japanese fandom is significantly more segmented and considerate of differing tastes than English-speaking fandom.
Japanese fandom is pretty strict with its rules of engagement. Personal privacy and respect for others are very important factors. Artists don’t want to be recognized at their day-job for their R18 doujin. Shippers don’t want their comments or cutesy fanart to be algorithmically-fed to users who have no interest in it. This is seen as polite and correct; it is respectful of the fact that people have different tastes, and not everyone will share yours.
See, Japanese fandom recognizes that the internet constitutes public view.
So fan language is coded: words are spelled slightly differently; characters, events, or ships get unique euphemistic nicknames; words or names are replaced with emojis. All of this is to prevent their stuff from being seen by someone just casually searching “Bakugou.”
You have to be in the know to know how to find stuff. You have to actively search for like-minded fans and curate your space, expanding your circle typically through word of mouth. And you have to abide by the rules, or else everyone is going to think you’re an overbearing jerk and not wanna be around you.
If you are just using google translate on social media posts or videos visibly labeled under the series title, you aren’t going to find much in regards to active shipping. Frankly, you aren’t going to see the whole scope of Japanese bkdk fan activity in any one place using any one method. This is how Japanese fandom is designed, and people work pretty hard to keep it that way.
Japanese fandom does not generally engage from the perspective that their desires will be validated by canon.
This is one of the biggest differences. In English-speaking fandom, you see people argue left and right about what’s going to be canon, who’s the endgame ship, and so on. People are very preoccupied by the idea that their ship has to be “validated,” and this validation comes from the notion that canon will reflect their personal preferences and fulfill their hopes for how the story will go.
This is just not the atmosphere in the vast majority of Japanese fan spaces. Remember how I said that jpn fandom recognizes that people have different tastes? This means people also tend to think that it is rather arrogant and demanding to think that your wishes are the only ones that should come true. It is also disrespectful of the mangaka’s artistic vision and hard-work to expect them to disregard their own desires to satisfy you personally.
So, when you ask, “are bkdk even taken seriously?” the question is built upon the idea that people who enjoy the series expect an outcome catered to their tastes.
As you said, most of the comments were for heterosexual pairings, which are the most obvious to predict considering the endings of other popular series published in Weekly Shonen Jump. Furthermore, Yashahime—sequel anime to shounen manga Inuyasha—confirmed that a character roughly ten years of age later grew up and had children with a (slowly-aging but adult) supernatural being who served as her caretaker and protector.
Maybe the video commenters were reflecting personal interest in those ships, or maybe they were just spit-balling off stuff they'd seen before. I can tell you I haven't really seen fanart for any of that, but I don't go looking for it, and m/f ship spaces will be separate from m/m ship spaces.
Still, it is important to remember that audience expectation is not directly correlated to outcome. When the online Shonen Jump+ manga Blue Flag was first published, the vast majority of readers did not expect that one of the characters in the love triangle would be gay. Hell, they expected it so little that the reveal went viral!
Audience expectation may be interesting to think about, but it is not a prediction method.
To sum it up:
Bkdk is extremely popular, but jpn fandom is very private and structured differently than English-speaking fandom.
Any metric of measurement for reader opinion will have its flaws, and audience expectation is not a foolproof way to gauge real outcome.
Personally, I think we should all take a cue from jpn fandom and just have fun.
I hope that answers your question and gives you some context, anon. Thank you for the kind comments on my work, I really appreciate it. <3

I have to admit that I'm kinda disappointed in Bucchigiri so far, but at the same time I want to see more 'cause the setting and the designs are really cool. Even the story could be interesting if it's done right. I've seen all the discourse with Arajin and as much as I love my boy Matakara I've realized something.
Matakara and Arajin are actually very similar but Matakara is just done better. Let me explain.
Arajin's goal: lose his virginity
Matakara's goal: become a Honkibito
Arajin's obsession: Mahoro/ girls
Matakara's obsession: Arajin/ become Honki people with him
Mahoro shows no interest in Arajin, broke his love stone but Arajin still believes he has a chance. Meanwhile, Arajin avoids Marakara, rejects him and still Matakara believes in him and holds on to his stone.
They both don't let go and pursue the person they like in some ways.
Matakara is as obsessive as Arajin, but his character is more fleshed out. He has a social circle with good friends. We have a backstory with his brother, so there's someone important to him other than Arajin.
He doesn't only use his strength for selfish reasons like Arajin but to protect his friends or the Minato Kai gang.
There's mystery surrounding the shadow in his room, we don't know what will happen to him. That gives the audience some anticipation and keeps its interest in the character and his potential.
I don't think people don't like Arajin because he's flawed. Matakara as sweet as he is has flaws too and other characters on the show as well. Sen'ya for example is shady af and doesn't tell Arajin everything and keeps stuff from him, so not everyone is a saint. And it's not because of bad writing or anything, it's just the way it was intended to be.
The intent here is to subvert expectations. I was surprised at first that it didn't go the way I thought. First, the harem trope is completely different from what we're used to.
- The mc pursues a girl but mostly men are after him, every gang leader wants him on their team because they think he's really strong. So they completely change what people expect of the harem genre.
- Mahoro is not the typical cute and innocent girl the mc usually falls for. She's ruthless, a brocon and doesn't hesitate to manipulate people to get what she wants. That makes her interesting because she's really not what she seems and is similar to Arajin and Matakara (her obsession with her brother)
- Arajin is not the typical shonen prota with big morals or big dreams (the "I want to become xx" type of hero), he doesn't want to be strong or anything significant other than losing his virginity like a normal teenager, and that's the joke. You expected something else? No, we get a pathetic mc who's most likely going to surprise us again just to break our expectations.
We're not supposed to root for Arajin, I think he is a tool to tell a delinquent story in a new kind of way. His character is annoying but I think it's on purpose and he's going to be useful somehow. How? Idk time will tell.
The process is not enjoyable right now and that's fine that people feel that way, but I think it's going to make sense at one point or another as to why Arajin acts like that.
I've seen some people not understanding all the criticism he gets, but I think it's fair criticism, judging that Arajin is not the type of character you would root for. While we know he's going to change it still seems like a long way, especially when you just don't care about the mc or you don't find him interesting in any way. That got me thinking that this is exactly how we're supposed to feel about him, at least for now. Arajin's not supposed to be a likable character so I'd say it's working. it's all fine because for once it's different, this is not what we expect of a shonen protagonist, so it's interesting.
I've also seen people say that Arajin has some development and I'm not sure about that. Sure, as the story progresses and he's getting more and more in a mess, Arajin's reactions have more range, there are some elements here and there that show us he cares about some things. But his attitude remains the same. And I think something bigger has to happen for him to actually break out of his character.
We've seen how he reacted to Akutaro's speech about Mahoro. It demonstrates that he can get mad for someone else, but he left Matakara tied up in a basement and doesn't get mad for him at all. We have a whole flashback with him feeling guilty for leaving Matakara and he has no remorse doing it again because he's not his priority. Something bad is going to happen so Arajin will finally snap out of it and pay attention to Matakara and realize his behavior was not okay. I hope that's the course of action at least or I'll be really disappointed. Arajin is not a good mc and that's cool, it's not groundbreaking but different. That being said, it has to mean something in the story and I haven't seen that yet.
So yeah, I'm not giving up on this anime and I'm looking forward to see how the story will unfold!

bucchigiri ep 12 lb thoughts:
wow, tbh I was not expecting to get more backstory on ara this late, but it's appreciated
aww ara thought matakara was cool
i'm still unsure what exactly a honki person is to be completely honest
komao is the best nurse thanks buddy
bucchigiri pleaseeeeee let mahoro do anything please im begging
ahaha the cat gag is finally revealed
also he just fucking stole jasmine right out of there lmaooo
okay so... mahoro uses a man to wake her brother up... sweetie I'm sorry but your brother only cares about men and fighting. it's time to give up
the siguma goons dressed in nurse outfits I'm cackling
yet again love is used as a metaphor for fighting and here it's applied to arajin and matakara hm
ahaaaaa as I predicted his wish changed. specifically to wanting matakara to wake up, no less
so like, is ichiya's issue with senya similar to matakara's issue with arajin? in that he wasn't as strong as he wanted him to be
is it inappropriate to say senya is lucky and I would like ichiya to beat me up as well
oh damn ichiya was sick and wanted to be killed by senya. senya looked up to ichiya and didn't want to do that.
komao carrying zabu aww
so now that ichiya is controlling matakara's body, matakara is stuck with his darkness. notably, the best friend stone lies in there, broken. he sits in the corner of his laundromat room, the place he's had to stay since his brother went to juvie
ofc these two muscled bitches can only make up by fighting
divorced dad senya got his wife back by being real for once
the only thing stronger than ichiya's pettiness--matakara's lack of self worth
ope well the only thing stronger than matakara's lack of self worth is ara's delusional love for mahoro ig
wow his wish change did not last for long lol
ohhh matakara shoving ara away, he believes everyone from his past makes him weaker "I don't need my friends, or my brother, or even you!"
matakara is deathly afraid of being left alone. it happened with ara, it happened with his brother, so now he wants to sever all his relationships so he can't be hurt again
literally shoving the love of friendship into matakara's face so he can't reject it, healing the inner child so afraid of loneliness
matakara finally having his investment in ara acknowledged and reciprocated
senya's unfinished business is done, he can ascend to heaven with his boyfie
i KNEW that stamp was gonna be for matakara. also stamping it in blood hell yeah
matakara I love youuuu
ahh a very sk8-type ending montage
MATAKARA YOUR BESTIES LOVE YOU
i'm at least glad mahoro is still ignoring the fact ara exists
did shindo wear fake boobs and heels just to sneak back into NG 💀 he's fulfilling his true calling in life: to be the drama member of an idol group
lmaooo catboy doing his best sales
ara and matakara making gyoza again 😭
matakara's brother is alive phew
lmaoooo the ending
well, I guess the ending would keep it open for a potential S2, if that were to ever happen. good episode with excellent animation, even though it didn't quite fulfill all of my desires for this show. would've liked mahoro to have a more active role in all this. this show also felt a bit limited by runtime and writing at times, but overall it was a pretty enjoyable experience with charming characters (who I would've liked to learn more about, tbh). matakara and ara's fight was amazing. I wanted more ichiya and senya than we got but I'm glad they resolved their issues too. I'm kinda curious as to what happened with ichiya after the fight. is he also in the bullet with senya, did he pass on, or is he in his own bullet? if it's the first option, I need a spinoff of their stupid domestic lives inside their separate spirit world

BUCCHIGIRI?! Rant
This show could have been so great. It could have been my everything. It was so cute when I first discovered it. The character designs are PHENOMENAL, the setting in fantastic, the colors are so vibrant and gorgeous—it is a visual masterpiece. Every character is so interesting, the story is actually engaging and cute. IT IS ALSO SO GAY OMG I LOVE IT! The men are all over each other and Ara-chan every episode, I’m not even making this shit up. It could have been so amazing.
But they ruined it.
They failed me and my love because of one character.
Mahoro Jin.
This girl…when you first see her is so adorable, so sweet. It’s unassuming. She’s got the whole heart aesthetic going on, lots of pink—instantly I was thinking about all the cute figures that were going to come out for her and how she was going to become a fav character of mine! She’s a nice soft character who you’re like “Oh! She’s a very cute love interest for this anime. I can’t wait to see where their love goes!” And all is well. For the first half of episode one. Then…all hell breaks loose when we meet Marito, her brother.
Don’t get me wrong, I ADORE Marito!!! Marito is a stunning character and I love him to death, I am obsessed. He’s so handsome and I love his vibes. However…I am not the only one who is obsessed with him.
THIS 👏🏻 CHICK 👏🏻 ROMANTICALLY 👏🏻 LOVES 👏🏻 HER 👏🏻 BROTHER 👏🏻
🥲
I haven’t been this disappointed in such a long time. Why? Why does anime do this to us? Why does it hurt me in such a violent and awful way? Why does it take so much from me? Literally cried after it was revelaved that she wants on her brother to LOVE and fight for her. Nearly threw up.
She was a great character and then we saw the truth, and it’s all inc*st with her now. GROSS. Every sentence that comes out of her goddamn mouth is about this man that I love(d, depending if I can stomach more of this God forsaken relationship) and it’s weirding me tf out. She appears in every other scene and quite literally ONLY talks about him. It’s so fucking disappointing. I think she’s only had one or two sentences that had nothing to do with her brother after we were introduced to him, and that’s fucking sad.
If I were to revamp this series, I would immediately change her character. Don’t get me wrong, I would keep her as a character because she has a great design, but make her want/talk about something ANYTHING else. If she had any other interests to share and, ya know, wasn’t looking to bang her sibling, it would have been fine! It’s vile that the author literally only uses her to remind everyone that she’s obsessed with her brother and wants to ROMANTICALLY be involved with him.
The ONLY redeeming thing is that Marito doesn’t return her feelings AT ALL. But it’s not helping my cringing at all. It makes the experience so fucking awful. Every time I try to enjoy it again, she’s rears her ugly head around and starts yapping.
I wanted to like this show so fucking bad…but her behavior ruins it so much that I can’t watch it.
It breaks my heart to see such promising new animes rely so heavily on these overused DISGUSTING themes when there is LITERALLY NO GODDAMN NEED FOR THEM!!! They weird everyone out, and you shit on a perfectly wonderful story by adding it. I wish they’d stop to let this go.
Sorry that was a long rant, but I had to let the people know my thoughts and violent feelings on this. I want to smack this author so bad, my hand is ITCHING for the opportunity one day.
Rest in piss, Bucchigiri.

Bucchigiri?! Episode 4 Review - An Unwanted Gang War
From what I’m seeing so far, Arajin is Hiroko Utsumi’s weakest MC by far. There’s just nothing great about him. He’s a simp for a girl who isn’t into him at all and he doesn’t even know he’s being played a fiddle. He’s mean to Matakara for undisclosed reasons; he’s also mean to his mom. He’s whiny and doesn’t want to involve in fights and when he does, toilet humor happens. Like, he’s only interesting because Senya is hilarious as heck. It’s been four episodes and there hasn’t been ANY redeeming qualities about him.
Tumblr media
Annoyances aside, this episode is a build up of a war between Minato Kai and Siguma due to the recent mysterious attacks last episode. Both sides are nervous for what’s to come. The thought of a third party being involved does NOT come across their mind. Zabu, the teal-haired guy, is the only one who knows the truth, but only reveals it to Matakara towards the end. I do wonder how brutal these gang fights are that the lackeys are terrified of them.
I think the real star of this episode is Matakara who has been pining for Arajin. Good boy deserves BETTER than him. He’s the one who believes that Minato Kai didn’t do anything wrong and he’s been doing whatever he can to try and stop the war from happening, but his attempts are futile. In acts of desperation, he goes to Arajin who tries to convince him to get everyone to stop but Arajin acts all cranky and kicks him out of his house. Matakara, he’s not worth it. He then goes to Mahoro to have her get Marito to stop the war. Because Marito has been infatuated with Arajin lately, he has been ignoring her; to that, Matakara then asks for her to get Arajin to ask Marito. While Mahoro was a bit rude and was going to scream at him again, he stops her this time. She then complies with his request after learning he also has an older brother. The fact that MAHORO of all people can be reasoned with and not Arajin kind of shows what sort of character he has; Mahoro would make a better MC than Arajin (just saying).
Akutaro makes his true debut in this episode. He’s prim, proper but also kind of sadistic as he fights with a whip. True to Utsumi fashion, he’s a very pretty character. He’s from another school as he was banished from Minato Kai. I do wonder how an outside force will affect the gang wars. Also, he’s the only character to have withstood Senya’s punch. It turns out that the reason Akutaro had been mumbling to himself in the previous episode is because he is possessed by the blue djinn, Ichiya! I saw that coming, but I was surprised nonetheless! I’m convinced that Utsumi is a fan of Tales of the Abyss in a way. Guy Cecil and Jade Curtiss’s voice actors voiced Joe and Adam in SK8 and Luke fon Fabre’s voice actor is Akutaro’s. Not only that, she casted Chihiro Suzuki a second time as his first Utsumi role had been Kisumi from Free!
Matakara’s brother Mitsukuni intrigues me. Not only is he a stunner, but I also sense something rather ominous in that soft aura he radiates. He used to be Minato Kai’s previous leader but was sent to juvie. The fact that he’s returning soon can change something within the story. Why was he sent to juvie? Is he a good person? I’m quite curious on what’s going to happen when he makes his official debut. I’m on my toes with this character because I don’t feel positive vibes from him at all.
Will Arajin ever get better as a protagonist? Who knows? As far as I know, the other characters are far more interesting. I’m seriously only here for the characters that aren’t Arajin as they stand out more than him.  What are your thoughts on this episode?

Eeeeeee I'm so happy you responded!!! lol
I feel like this episode has me completely flipped around! Like I don't know what I expected but it totally surprised me!!! MAHORO THE GOAT 🐐💯😆 I love her so much!!! What a badass!!!! She's so fucking cool, lol.
Like, okay thought one: I am so much more fascinated by Mahoro now! I want to know everything about her, what's her background? how does she see the world and everyone around her??? Like, I always liked her, but before it was mostly because she was funny? (+ great character design obvi) her disdain for arajin, her screaming in matakara's face. Idk like i was def still curious about her, esp after that sweet moment with Matakara, relating over their brothers. but soooo much more now! How did she grow up? Why is she so attached to her brother? She's trying her hardest to protect him! What's it like being a girl in that kind of environment? Especially a cute girl. How did her thing with getting her brother to beat guys up start? How does she feel about the whole gang culture? Who does she respect and who does she look down on? I just want to explore her brain forever...
Thought 2: ARAJINNNNN!!!! AH FUCK HE'S SUCH A MESS BUT-- Okay the part that really caught me off guard, like I did not see that coming was Mahoro standing up to (what's his fuck? shindo?) and THAT being what inspired Arajin to overcome his weakness!!!!! It's so interesting to not do the expected dynamic of Matakara going down again and that being the catalyst. But it makes so much more sense! Like his most shameful moment playing out in front of him and someone ELSE showing him how to overcome it! SPECIFICALLY AS SOMEONE WHO IS WEAKER THAN THE THREAT (because Mahoro has not been shown to be someone who fights, and she didn't even try to) STANDING UP TO THAT THREAT ANYWAY!!! and Arajin being able to follow her lead!!!! It's so much more honest to how shame operates and what it actually takes to be brave. Also, that Mahoro may have seen him in a new light because he wasn't being the conflict-averse simp she thought he was, someone who "needs others to tell them who they are". very cool. I can't wait to see how their dynamic changes in the future.
Third thought: obviously Obviously the last moment between Matakara and Arajin 😭😭😭😭😭 oh my god I'm never getting over this. "I wasn't the one who didn't give up" goooooddddd 😭😭😭 it's such a loaded line oh my god.
Also the whole half episode flashback of Outa and Marito????? I could literally die, I'm so obsessed with them. They have like, one of my favorite types of dynamics, relationship & character wise. and marito's design is SO FUCKING PEAK i wanna be him
cute zabu + komao moment lol
THE ANIMATION OMG. The run animation at the OPENING to the episode was sooo delicious omgggg i was like damn okay here we fucking goo! Like i seriously think that opening shot has stuck with me the most. It's so stylized, so emotive, so impressive! what a good opening to the episode! But the whole episode was fucking Gorgeousssssss.
Alsoooo poor baby Matakara all beat up and injured 👀🙂 awwww...poor guy. i did not enjoy seeing him hurt at alllll 🙈😈 don't want to see him all pathetic getting nursed back to healthhh... that would suck. no one should draw that or write fic about it....🫣
I seriously can't wait to see where the story goes next. I need to know more about ichiya and senya, i NEED to see Matakara's moment from the OP, do you think his brother is coming home soon? I feel like next ep or two honestly... ugh I'm having so much fun honestly
(have you watched it yet? whadja think? lmk ^-^)
I FINALLY HAVE! Had the most exhausting weekend bleh, but oh my god I ADORED THIS EPISODE??? I don't even have words, I just finished watching and I'm STILL processing everything that went done, but OH MY GOODNESS? First of all, Mahoro??? I LOVE HER. The way she didn't even flinch? Incredible, iconic, brilliant. I cannot express enough how much I adore the fact she still has no interest in Arajin.
AND THEN ARAJIN! His moment was BRILLIANT, his fear and bravery, being moved by Mahoro, and the FIGHT was EPIC. The animation for fighting is so yummy, I can't even begin, but Matakara and Arajin's little moment is INCREDIBLE TO ME. I love how Arajin still acts how he usually does around him, seemingly surface level indifference but he still cares so much. And that line, "I'm not the one who didn't give up though", to Matakara's praise is chef's kiss to me. Their dynamic is 10/10 I love seeing it slowly progress, and the first semblance of Arajin somewhat actually communicating. I am going to analyze that line to pieces.
BUT AAA! These are first the first main thoughts ping-ponging around my head and I would love to know your thoughts. To me, this episode was so incredible, the flashbacks, dynamics, epic moments, WERE JUST SO GOOD.

so, Heroes Rising.
I saw it. it was exactly as good as I expected it to be. which is to say, very, very good.
this post is going to be chock full of spoilers guys. all the spoilers. and I’m not just talking those “ho hum All Might and Deku work together to beat the villain who could have seen that coming” first movie-type spoilers either. if you don’t yet know what happens in this movie, let me assure you that it is big. like we’re talking some momentous fucking shit. so if you don’t want to know then don’t click on this! but do go see the movie if it’s playing in your area because holy shit! it’s so good! (and so worth seeing on a big screen, too -- it was awesome.)
also there are some manga spoilers here too, because this movie does take place during the later manga arcs, and I did discuss some of those little manga-only easter eggs below. so I’ve tagged this with “bnha spoilers” accordingly, but just wanted to mention that here as well.
so I’m gonna break this down into sections, I guess. first I’ll do a quick-ish summary of the movie just because that’s important for context (and if you’re looking for a real in-depth summary, I recommend aitaikimochi’s very detailed summary here).
a quick-ish summary of the movie
so the kids all get sent to some tropical island in the middle of nowhere because the hero who used to be assigned to that island retired. and so the HPSC thought it would be a good idea to send a bunch of kids to serve as interim heroes until they find another professional who can take over. that’s right, this whole thing is the HPSC’s fault. because they just love their child soldiers. before you can ask, not a single grown-up actually accompanied them there either. it’s just the kids. and just 1-A for that matter, so I guess 1-B all got assigned to their own tropical island and had their own adventures which will never be turned into a movie much to Monoma’s dismay. alas.
anyway this island has a population of like 1k and nothing ever happens there, so at least the decision seems kind of reasonable in that light! like they basically figure that the kids will spend a few weeks helping the island’s population track down all their missing pets (which, this island has like a dozen pets go missing every hour, I’m not even joking. like 90% of the calls the kids get are “HELP ME I LOST MY FUCKING PET AGAIN.” maybe if you all closed your fucking front doors every now and then!! one person lost their parrot. honestly Kouda should just immediately move here once he graduates and they’ll keep him busy 24/7 and he’ll get rich enough to live like a king). it never occurs to anyone to wonder if maybe these particular kids, who are certified villain magnets and literally aren’t allowed to go anywhere without a professional armed guard these days because villains always try to kidnap them, might not need at least one adult to go with them. everyone is just like “no they’ll be fine.” spoiler alert: they were not fine.
the two little kids in the movie are Katsuma and Mahoro. I was worried Mahoro might be annoying, but my fears were unfounded and they are both adorable. but Katsuma is like five and Mahoro can’t possibly be older than seven. and they basically live on the island all alone, because their mom is a Dead Anime Mom and their dad works on the mainland. so these two preschoolers are alone and unsupervised all the fucking time, and so I for one was not at all surprised that they get up to shit like prank-calling the 1-A Hero Squad about fake villain attacks, because that’s exactly the sort of shit you would expect unsupervised five and seven-year-olds to get up to!! geez!! their neighbors supposedly check in on them, but how much attention can they really be giving them if they haven’t even noticed that Katsuma’s been wearing the exact same clothes for a fucking week now.
anyway so the villain is named Nine and he’s the same old standard villain guy who wants to create a new world order with his pals and all their strong quirks. but his base quirk (which I think is the weather-related one, but it’s hard to tell since spoiler alert dude is rocking multiple quirks) makes him get all fainty and weak after a short amount of time, so he goes to the League of Villains to get stronger and Ujiko is all “sure thing bud I’ll make it so you can hold multiple quirks.” and so he’s called Nine because he can hold up to nine quirks. and he can do the AFO thing where he steals quirks from people! which is like a BIG FUCKING DEAL!? guys but whatever it’s a movie!
anyway so long story short he wants a quirk that can fix his whole here-I-go-fainting-again deal, and through a series of events I won’t bother to elaborate on, he figures out that one of the cute kids (spoiler alert it’s Katsuma) has a quirk that can do that, so he goes to the island to steal Katsuma’s quirk. and he and his buddies arrive and they fight class 1-A, and Deku and Bakugou protect the cute kids from Nine, and everyone else fights the other bad guys, and there’s a ton of sweet studio bones action and the kids are all fucking bosses and it’s fucking sick and I fucking love it.
and then in the end, Deku and Bakugou fight Nine but he’s too strong, so Deku has to give Bakugou OFA so that they can double team him with a OFA combo (with Deku using the embers) to beat him. and afterwards they pass out, and OFA is all “back I go into Deku because guess what I can do that!” and it does, and then Bakugou doesn’t remember anything when he wakes up. and then they all leave the island and move on with their lives and none of these events are ever spoken of again. and basically everything in this last paragraph is why some people were a bit “WHAT THE FUCK, MOVIE” about this movie (though that seems to have died down now that people are actually seeing it and not just judging it by the summary). but let me tell you guys I have THOUGHTS about all of this, but I will get to those in a bit.
so that’s the summary. now this next section is going to be some general thoughts and observations which aren’t particularly organized, but which I would like to now share. and then afterwards I will share my thoughts on each of the 1-A characters in this movie since they all got their chance to shine and it was great. but anyway.
general thoughts and observations
first of all this movie reminded me that BnHA appeals to a very wide demographic. there were a ton of kids at the theater (and I know they were there to see BnHA because they were all talking about it), but strangely enough the auditorium I was in was mostly older kids and adults! but what I figure is that since both the dub and sub versions were playing, the majority of younger kids (and/or their parents) opted for the dub. at any rate it was fun to see so many fans there and be reminded that my nerdy hyperfixation anime is actually super popular lol.
for anyone who’s been disappointed with the overall lackluster animation quality of the latter half of season 4, it’s because all of the good animators were working on this. “well whoop de do for them but was it really worth it?” you ask. and honestly... yes. yes it was. holy fucking shit. from the very first fucking scene, that answer is an emphatic, wholehearted “yes.” incidentally if you, like me, failed to do the requisite soul-searching to realize that you needed even more League of Villains car chases in your life, let me assure you that you do, and this movie has got your fucking back.
Hawks is here and of course, duh, he’s amazing. he’s just as sassy and smart as you could hope, and at one point he actually makes an out-of-nowhere deduction that was honestly a HUGE LEAP, but of course it was exactly on the fucking money because it’s fucking Hawks you guys, AND HE’S JUST LIKE THAT.
Endeavor has the scar, but he’s only shown with his Flame Face activated, so it’s hard to see unless you’re actually looking for it. I honestly think a lot of anime-onlies might not even catch it. well-played. same thing with the glove covering the fingers on Tomura’s left hand.
honestly, probably the biggest spoiler in the movie is this one scene where Nine realizes that Deku “is capable of holding multiple quirks.” like, the movie doesn’t actually confirm SIXQUIRKS!!, but it’s pretty damn close IMO. gettin’ cute with it. oh, movie.
also there’s one scene that briefly shows all of the vestiges/predecessors, who IIRC haven’t yet been revealed in the anime other than in that one Shinsou fight where they were all shapeless blobs. so that’s another spoiler I guess. but this is another scene which was only very briefly shown. still when you’re showing it on a 30-foot-tall movie screen you kind of can’t be subtle no matter how hard you try so. hm.
at one point Bakugou is lying unconscious on a futon getting medical treatment, and he’s still wearing his hero costume but his shoes are off, and he is wearing socks. this confirms the answer to the question that probably no one else other than me had, of whether or not he actually does wear socks with his hero costume. because sometimes he has this tendency to not wear socks. anyway so that’s an important fact that I took note of and stored away in my brain so I could write it down and inform you all of it. socks.
the 1-A kids are actually really fucking professional and they have this little call center-type setup with phones and computers where they can take citizens’ calls and coordinate their response teams. it’s legit. unfortunately for them all the islanders ever call in about are lost pets, as previously mentioned. they don’t deserve these kids tbh.
at one point Kaminari calls Bakugou “Kacchan” AGAIN and THEY CAN’T KEEP LETTING HIM GET AWAY WITH IT. except they absolutely can and indeed, should.
Katsuma is an Edgeshot fan and wears this little pin of him on one of the straps of his overalls lol. it’s fucking adorable. unfortunately Edgeshot is not in the movie so we don’t get to hear his sexy hero ASMR voice. I think this is my biggest regret about the movie.
speaking of Katsuma, he has the bravest moment in the entire film when he charges right toward Nine to stop him from hurting his sister. willing to sacrifice his quirk and his dream to save her and everyone else. and it’s actually the second time he volunteers to do this. he is so brave. I would die for him you guys.
so many people get bodyslammed into cliff walls in this movie but they’re all fine. the fuck are these kids even made of.
at one point a villager asks Shouto to make some ice for him so Shouto is all “okay” and goes and makes a GIANT MOUNTAIN OF ICE THE SIZE OF A FULL DOUBLE FRIDGE. because CLEARLY that’s what this man meant when he asked for “more ice.” this has left a lasting impression on me.
for the most part the movie actually makes a surprising amount of sense! there are actually very few plot holes, and I say this as someone who is very much alert for plot holes! that being said, every so often a scene still comes along that makes you go “really??” while holding both of your hands outstretched all “are you serious” (and I was very gratified to see that I was not the only person doing this at times! MY PEOPLE). but it was mostly just your typical stuff that you would tend to find in the manga as well. for instance, “holy fucking shit Shouto did you really just fucking murder that guy.” (spoiler alert, I don’t actually recall them clarifying whether he did or didn’t, so I’m just going to assume that he DID. Shouto is very sweet but every now and then he just stops giving a fuck and that’s when you have to back off.)
anyway that’s all the random stuff I can think of so now I’m gonna summarize my thoughts on each of the 1-A kids and their roles in the film!
class 1-A
Satou doesn’t really do much, but his face scares a small child at one point and everyone in the theater laughed. I feel bad about it now. poor Satou. and even though I said he doesn’t do much, I should note before I get any further that every last 1-A kid does get at least a little screentime and some villain-fighting action, and he is no exception. but it’s mostly limited to punches, and of course, being bodyslammed into a cliff wall.
Hagakure doesn’t really do anything except help lead the citizen evacuation. and actually I lied in the previous paragraph because come to think of it, I don’t think Hagakure got any action scenes, so so much for that assertion. she didn’t even get to do her flashy lightbulb move. ah well one day she’ll be revealed as the traitor and then it’ll be her moment to shine.
Tsuyu has some good rescue moments, and this one cool bit where she grabs a villain with her tongue and yanks him into a river and Todoroki proceeds to freeze the entire fucking river (along with like half a dozen waterfalls), villain and all. it was a cool combo and I was all about that. also the kids use her disgusting poison frog snot to paralyze a dude so that was also dope.
Mineta doesn’t do anything egregious and actually has some really cool moments. his best is a combo attack with Sero and Ochako, but I’ll get to that in a bit.
Kouda is helping to save all of those lost pets!! all these cats and dogs and fucking parrots and shit. there’s also this one scene where a lot of birds come flying over suddenly and obstruct the vision of one of the bad guys, but I can’t remember if that was Kouda or not. but if it was then that was pretty damn sick, Kouda.
Kirishima does not get a lot of non-combat screentime, but he is there for those fights!! his big moment is also a combo (this movie could have seriously been called Combos Rising) with Todoroki where the two of them slide on a rail of ice similar to what they did in Kamino, and Kiri’s in front and activates Unbreakable to act as a shield for Todo. it’s super cool. also he does a lot of smiling at Bakugou like “oh, Bakugou!” in this way that’s just like. oh that wacky Bakugou, what are we going to do with him. chuckle chuckle. it’s cute and it’s nice to see someone else who is also way too tolerant of Bakugou’s shenanigans and just lets him get away with fucking everything because he adores him. I relate to Kiri a fucking lot is what I’m saying.
Ojiro’s tail is not made out of any substance known to man as far as I can tell. it just bends any fucking way it wants and can do whatever the fuck it wants and withstand all kinds of crazy shit. Ojiro actually has some really cool action scenes in this movie (we’ll get to the big one shortly) so props to him! but the fuck is up with that tail bro.
Shouji doesn’t do much, but he plays a key role in the final battle protecting the kiddos and he deserves your respect! also at one point one of the villains starts taunting him and is all “what’s up with your face I bet people were scared of you as a child”, which was fucking savage and completely uncalled for, and made the guy sitting next to me burst out laughing so hard I swear to god he started crying. smh.
Aoyama has not one but two fights in which he plays a key role! somehow he always seems to be at the vanguard. like his thing is firing off all his lasers until he’s exhausted and seemingly at death’s door, at which point the rest of the kids will show up to take over. he is very brave, and sparkly, and at one point he collapses holding his stomach and moaning “I think a little bit actually came out” which made me say “jesus christ” out loud while the entire theater lost their collective fucking shit.
Jirou does not do much, action-wise, until the very end when she and Ojiro (this is the big Ojiro scene I mentioned earlier) briefly take on Nine while the beaten-up Bakugou and Deku catch their breath and get their shit back together. let me tell you it was a RUSH watching Jirou take on a super powerful villain and I was HERE FOR IT. she blew up a bridge and then was almost immediately bodyslammed into a cliff but boy it was a ride while it lasted. also there is a scene where Momo is lying on a couch exhausted from overuse of her quirk, and Jirou is the one sitting there beside her watching over her, because they are gay, just a friendly reminder.
Iida is the glue holding all of this shit together. when the villains first arrive on the island and all the shit hits the fan, Iida is the one who stays calm and collected and dispatches 1-A to the various besieged parts of the island in teams as though he was Horifuckingkoshi himself. like how the fuck did he just know who to group together?? there isn’t any system to it, the teams are of varying numbers and degrees of skill and getting-along-with-each-other. but somehow it all worked out perfectly and I didn’t even question it. anyway so he also sees plenty of action and zooms around in his hyped-up new and improved recripro mode, and it’s great. I can’t remember if he gets bodyslammed into a cliff but let’s just assume yes.
Momo is right there with Iida calling the shots, and she also teams up with Aoyama in the final battle and makes not one, but two bigass cannons and shoots the fucking bad guys with them and it is everything. she also overuses her quirk in between the two big attacks by making a bunch of emergency supplies for the citizens, because she is too good and pure for this earth and we don’t deserve her.
Kaminari is mostly just used as a walking talking battery who tells jokes. there’s this guy on the island whose fucking tractor keeps dying and he keeps calling the 1-A hero agency to get a jump from them, so they send poor Kami over yet again and he puts up with it with a smile because he’s an angel. he does have one epic moment where Nine uses his lightning attack (he has a lightning attack, in case I forgot to mention that earlier) on Bakugou & Deku and then absconds, only for the two of them to catch up to him a couple minutes later all “JOKE’S ON YOU ASSHOLE WE’RE FINE!!” and he’s all “HOW!!” and it’s revealed that they anticipated the attack and made Kaminari serve as their personal lightning rod. and we cut to poor Kami sitting there in a field all crispy and doing his “whey” thing which got the most riotous fucking laugh in the entire movie because my theater was fucking shameless. Kaminari you poor brave boy I am sorry. god it was fucking funny though.
Mina had a ton of cute Mina moments which I can’t specifically think of now because it’s getting late (ETA: I wrote this up in two parts on Friday and Saturday night which might explain why it is so freaking long omg), but she was so great and I love her. but the moment that made me (and the rest of the audience) gasp out loud was when she was fighting one of the villains in a cave, and running around shooting her acid at stalactites to make them fall off and hit the villain, and being generally badass and such, but then all of a sudden the villain landed a good shot that hit her right in the leg and she gave this little cry of pain. and I swear to god it took everything in me not to leap to my feet and shout “NO, MINA!!!” because no!!!, but in the end it was all good because this moment led to...
Tokoyami losing his fucking shit, as Tokoyamis in dark caves whose friends are injured by villains are wont to do. so then he basically goes ape on the villain and it’s so great. Tokoyami is like genuinely tied with Todoroki as the third strongest guy in this movie, it’s insane. dude is so fucking strong?! also he does the flying thing from the manga too. so that’s another spoiler there for ya. these poor anime kids.
Todoroki exists in this awkward tier where he’s like at the very top of the very next character/plot tier underneath Bakugou and Deku, but he very clearly wants to be in the Bakugou and Deku tier, so he does things like inserting himself in between where they’re standing importantly, and saying both of their names while he is passing out. but in spite of his efforts the movie is all “no silly you’re in this tier” and puts him with Iida and Kiri and Tsuyu, and he accepts it with good grace in the end, but I’m pretty sure this is the real reason why he invited Deku and Bakugou to come intern with him immediately after this. just try and continue keeping him out of the main plot now, you two. anyway while I do understand why some Shouto fans were disappointed with him not having a big starring role in this movie, I think it’s akin to being disappointed that he didn’t have a starring role in Deku VS Kacchan Part 2. this was Bakugou and Deku’s movie from start to finish and that’s just how it is. but Shouto will most assuredly have his moment to shine sooner rather than later. also I seriously am pretty sure he just straight up kills a man in this film. fucking jams his entire arm down the dude’s throat and freezes him from the inside out?! this kid is still zero to sixty in the span of an eyeblink I swear to god.
Sero is ridiculously fucking cool in this movie you guys. like straight up balling out the entire time. holy shit. this kid is going to be a top ten hero and it’s time we were all done sleeping on him. also Bakugou calls him by his name for the first time ever because he straight up saves Bakugou’s life at one point and gets hurt doing so, so that made my fucking weekend, just putting that out there. and he and Ochako honest to god put up a real fight for the title of “sickest combo in the entire fucking movie” and I’m not even kidding, and I’m including Bakugou and Deku in that. but speaking of Ochako,
Ochako in this movie was almost too much for me to handle after reading the Miruko chapter earlier that afternoon lol. so you know that meteor shower move that she did back during the sports festival? she, along with Sero and YES, MINETA, pull off an upgraded version of that same attack in this film, and it is MISSION STATUS: FUCKING SICK. and in between that she’s just constantly floating people so Sero can then grab them with his tape and whip them around so they can do attack stuff mid-air, and it’s all just hype as fuck. and there were some good character moments with her too, but I’ve forgotten them all because it’s getting late now and my stupid brain is starting to prioritize sleep over writing this post. ah well.
so that’s 18 out of 20 kids! I left two out! you know which two! because they get their own fucking section because that’s just how it is.
Bakugou and Deku
well I actually wrote out all of my feelings about the whole OFA transfer, but they turned out to be essay-length, so I’m going to go ahead and put those into their own post. but here are all of my other random thoughts about Bakugou and Deku and their dynamic in this movie, which was fucking amazing.
I really need to get my hands on the fucking script for this thing, because I want to get a list of all of Bakugou’s lines, because I have a very strong suspicion that the percentage of Bakugou’s lines that are addressed to Deku and only Deku like they’re the only two people in the room (even though I assure you they are not) is significantly high.
and the looks. oh my god. he is constantly just watching him and making intense eye contact and listening in on conversations that have nothing to do with him WHATSOEVER because HE JUST LIKES LISTENING TO DEKU TALK ABOUT BEING A HERO AND STUFF, I GUESS.
there’s a scene where he’s holding a popsicle (rip to any headcanons that Bakugou won’t eat anything sweet btw) and sucking on it but then spaces out because he’s too busy listening to Deku talk to Katsuma, and at first his body language is all “la la la pretending I’m not interested” but gradually he straight up abandons the whole pretense and is basically turned fully around watching them for so long that the popsicle melts right off the stick and onto the ground and he turns around and just stares at it like it betrayed him. like, I’m not gonna go so far as to say that this popsicle is the proof of their friendship but it’s LIKE THAT.
Deku meanwhile has not one but two moments where they’re in the middle of a fight and he’s down after taking a particularly hard hit, and then something happens to Bakugou and he’s all “KACCHAN” and gets this fire in his eyes just like that because as usual you do not fuck with Kacchan when you’re around him. you just do not. YOU DON’T. meanwhile Kacchan is perfectly capable of taking care of himself but that’s never going to fucking stop Deku because Deku is ridiculous! ahhh Deku.
they are both good parents to their adopted island children and Bakugou protects them multiple times, and there’s even one scene where he saves them while letting Deku attack the villain, which is both teamwork with Deku AND saving someone, which is basically THE PINNACLE OF BAKUGOU’S CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. thank you movie.
Deku has a scene with Katsuma where Katsuma reveals that he wants to be a hero but doesn’t have a very good quirk for hero-ing, and Deku tells him he can definitely be a hero. this is the scene that Bakugou listens in on while his popsicle melts away incidentally. anyway, to see Deku telling a small child the one thing that no one ever told him when he was growing up and that he wanted to hear so desperately almost made me tear up, quite frankly, and it was one of my favorite moments in the entire film.
the guy next to me kept laughing every time Bakugou brought up the whole “I’M GONNA BE NUMBER ONE JUST WAIT AND SEE I’M THE GUY WHO’S GONNA SURPASS NUMBER ONE THAT’S ME THAT’S THE GUY” thing, and I honest to god couldn’t tell if this person was a fan of Bakugou or hated Bakugou or what. but he just laughed. every single time. and I can’t stop thinking about it you guys.
Deku totally uses 100% OFA on his bad arm and that’s probably the biggest plot hole in this movie. BOY YOU DUMB. somehow he’s fine in the end though.
Bakugou breaks both of his arms too because OFA gonna OFA. I was actually really impressed/wincing because he kept fighting anyway, and we KNOW how hard his quirk is on his arms even normally. but he kept using it, and long story short I’m not sure how he didn’t manage to Deku his arms even worse than Deku. between this and chapter 262 it has not been a good weekend for arms.
at one point Bakugou decides he’s had enough of being bodyslammed into cliff walls and holds his arms up to the side of the crater(?) he’s in, and just... melts all the earth away until the crater is no longer a crater. or something. it’s hard to describe but it was the most insane thing I’ve ever seen.
Bakugou takes to OFA as naturally as he takes to everything. there was no processing time at all. just instantaneous. this isn’t even a plot hole to me, this is just Bakugou being Bakugou.
even before the OFA combo, there’s another sick BKDK combo where Bakugou grabs Deku’s hand and rotates him in the air using his quirk (it’s similar to what he did at the end of their second fight in Ground Beta) and launches him like a projectile. this fucking movie.
last but not least, the final fight scene with them all powered up is so vivid and colorful and movement everywhere and light and blurs and just ahhhhh. also, Might U at one point is just playing with no background noise. I don’t think a lot of other posts have mentioned that part; that not only is this music playing, but it’s the only thing you hear, no grunts or explosions or any other sound effects. just the music. while you watch these two work together like it’s the only thing they were ever born to do. it is everything.
conclusion
so that’s everything I can think of as far as my thoughts on the movie go, aside from the gigantic essay about Deku giving Bakugou OFA, which I will post immediately following this. so yeah. in conclusion I thought it was amazing, which is only to be expected I guess since it was relevant to virtually all of my interests. 10/10 would recommend, and please consider donating to find a solution to the ever-growing problem of children being bodyslammed into cliff walls.

Temporary Decorations (DaiHaru One Shot)
This Christmas fit is really late but I hope that doesn’t make it irrelevant haha
Please leave a Kudos/comment on my Ao3 page if you have the time <3 thank you and enjoy :)
(Cut was added to prevent a long post. Rest of the fic is below said cut ^^)
------------------------------------------------------------------
“What’s your problem?” Haru scoffed, giving Daisuke a particularly dirty look as the millionaire stared him down.
Daisuke knit his eyebrows in contemplation, taking in Haru’s whole appearance instead of speaking up immediately. Although he has seen ugly sweaters so many time on so many other people, usually when passing by people on the street, or vague memories of the christmas parties his mother would tend to throw when he was younger, he had not even imagined that Haru would be someone to take part in such a silly and strange tradition.
Upon not getting a response, Haru let out another scoff and walked over to him with his arms crossed; which legitimately looked difficult considering his sweater was decorated with large pom poms, ruffles, and ornaments. Daisuke couldn’t help but wonder whether or not his chest felt heavy with the hideous piece of clothing.
Despite its ugliness, however, a small smirk snuck its way onto his face. Haru craned his neck down at him as if to say are you serious right now? But Daisuke couldn’t help it. No, this man in front of him looked somewhat cute, even with the foolish holiday attire.
“Never took you as one to wear something like this.” Daisuke finally said, shrugging off his jacket to hang up on the coat hook by the office’s door.
“It’s Christmas,” Haru countered, rolling his eyes. “Besides, the others kind of pressure me into wearing one with them every year.”
Daisuke looked over towards the back of the office where Mahoro and Shinnosuke busied themselves with a cheap, fake christmas tree, that looks like it has seen way too many years. He frowned slightly at the display.
Haru, immediately catching on to Daisuke’s expression, let out a long sigh. “Oh I bet you’re comparing the tree to your own thousand foot one back at home, huh?” He spoke both sarcastically and accusingly.
Daisuke looked away from his other coworkers who were currently struggling to keep the poor tree upright, the bells on Mahoro’s sweater jingling with every movement. “I don’t have a tree at home.”
His partner raised an eyebrow in confusion before letting his face soften at the sudden admission. “Oh. Didn’t mean to assume you celebrated christmas or not.”
“I did…” Daisuke said slowly, suddenly remembering he was just awkwardly standing at the doorway and moved to sit at the small lounge area. “My mother was a big fan of christmas time. She would decorate the mansion head to toe with little help from the maids and butlers. It wasn’t until after she died… we just stopped.”
Although he spoke in such a monotonous voice, Haru could tell that he had gotten himself into unknown territory. Unsure of himself, Haru sat himself down in a chair across from the millionaire. “Excuse me for overstepping any boundaries with your family but maybe you should try decorating your place up a bit. Suzue might appreciate it, right?”
Daisuke examined Haru carefully, thinking to himself that he wouldn’t really mind him ‘overstepping boundaries’. “So this is the only time in the year you would want me to waste money on something like temporary decoration?”
Haru pouted, leaning back in his chair. Daisuke watched as the ornament hanging off his sweater rolled lazily against his abdomen before snapping his eye back up to meet Haru’s. “I’m not saying you have to waste your money. Start small or something. Like a tree. I can help you.”
Daisuke grimaced, glancing back at the piece of junk that was now leaning up against the back wall. “No thank you.”
His fellow inspector let out a snort. “We’ll get a real tree. Not everyone likes fake ones. I only use them because they’re cheap and reusable. However my mom always liked to get a real one back home.”
Daisuke looked back at him at the mention of Haru’s childhood, not used to hearing much about it.
“We can go after work today,” Haru offered, searching Daisuke’s eyes carefully, “if you’d like?”
With little thought, Daisuke nodded in agreement, getting up to message Suzue about his new plans for the day.
***
The trees were picked out greatly by the time the duo made it to the tree ranch, most likely due to the fact christmas was only a few days away. When Daisuke had brought up this fact, Haru brushed the thought aside saying “christmas leaves an aftertaste for the rest of december and a bit of january”, and then went forward, continuing to inspect every tree he came across.
Daisuke watched as Haru lifted a tree off the ground, brushing the snow off its needles to get an accurate reading for its size. “This one is nice, right Kambe?”
The millionaire looked at the tree up and down, delicately placing his hands in his pockets. “It’s lopsided.”
Haru scoffed, spinning the tree around carefully. “That just builds character. Besides, we can always hide the bad side against the wall.”
“We?” Daisuke hummed.
The inspector stayed silent for a good couple seconds, opting to look anywhere except Daisuke as his cheeks grew rosy.
“No matter. This one is too small.” Daisuke sighed, continuing to walk down the row of trees, stepping carefully due to the snow and ice on the ground.
“There’s not many large ones to choose from,” Haru grumbled, placing the tree back down on the ground, rushing to catch up to the other man. “Some people get Christmas trees the size of houseplants so it’s not like it's that important to get one the size of the eiffel tower.”
“My mother used to get large ones to put in the parlor,” Daisuke continued, stopping occasionally to look at one of the trees laying on the ground.
“Well unfortunately there isn’t a whole lot of time to decorate something that big.” Haru huffed, “We can do that next year. Besides, smaller trees can be charming once we get it all decorated and lit up.”
Daisuke couldn’t help the small smile on his face as he looked back over at his partner. “You’re very insistent on this ‘we’ aspect. As if it is also your tree being brought to your home.”
Haru suddenly stopped walking, stubbornly scooping snow off of the ground and chucking it at the millionaire in a haste attempt to cover up his flustered state. “Shut up.”
Not expecting the snowball attack, Daisuke sputtered and looked down at the powdery white snow covering the front of his jacket before forcing a nonchalant expression. “Very mature of you, inspector.”
Growling, Haru packed up another snowball and threw it at him again. This time hitting Daisuke’s shoulder (who just stood and let it happen). “Even when I’m doing something to make you feel better this holiday, you can’t help being a little shit, Kambe.”
Daisuke brushed the snow off his coat and stepped over to Haru who was glaring daggers at him. “Why do something nice for me, then?”
“Because,” Haru started, looking back and forth between Daisuke’s eyes cautiously, “Because you’re not–”
“I’m not what?”
Haru gulped as Daisuke became uncomfortably close, scrunching his nose as he leaned backwards slightly.
“Haru.”
At the sound of Daisuke actually saying his first name, Haru snapped out of his mindless thoughts and shoved a hand full of snow into Daisuke’s face.
Stumbling backwards, Haru hurriedly picked up the tree he had lifted earlier and called an employee over, ignoring Dasiuke who was currently frazzled as he spit the snow out of his mouth. “We’re–You’re getting this one. Like it or not.”
***
After the long struggle of trying to transport the tree into Daisuke’s home (which consisted of Haru trying to roll the tree up the steps of the mansion, Daisuke standing off to the side taking secret screenshots, and Suzue having to actually go outside in the cold to do most of the work), Haru found himself in a slightly awkward situation.
Having heard that they were coming with a christmas tree, Suzue took it upon herself to go searching for her late aunt’s holiday decorations deep in the family’s personal archive. She seemed rather gleeful, despite Daisuke’s obvious discomfort amongst the old ornaments, stockings, lights, and et cetera.
Haru didn’t quite know why he was still there. The tree found it’s home drilled into the antique tree stand that Suzue had dug out from one of the bins. He even volunteered to water it himself and thank Suzue for all her help on Daisuke’s behalf. However, his partner remained quiet throughout all of this, keeping his eyes trained on the decorations as if they were capable of coming to life and jumping at him.
“Thank you for doing this, Mr. Katou.” Suzue whispered graciously, folding her hands neatly behind her back. “Now that he has found peace with his mother’s death, I think this is the best time we could have done this sort of decorating again.”
Haru frowned, glancing over at her before looking back at Daisuke. “I wouldn’t say he’s at peace. He obviously still has his barriers up.”
Suzue let out a half hearted chuckle, looking over at him as well. “Although he may have found closure, he still has dreadful memories of the whole thing. That’s not so easy to get over. I don’t expect him to ever get over it.” After a pause, Suzue let out a soft sigh and turned to walk towards the hallway. “I’m going to go help the staff with the decorations elsewhere. Maybe you can try to get Lord Daisuke to hang up the stockings? Or at least hang up a few ornaments?”
Haru hummed, finally looking away from Daisuke to give her a gentle smile. “I’ll try my best.”
She smiled in return, giving a curt nod before leaving the parlor.
Shrugging off his coat and placing it over the back of a loveseat, Haru walked over to where Daisuke stood, still staring down at the bins of decorations. “Unfortunately there is no device that will do the decorating for you, you know.”
Daisuke pressed his lips into a tight line, bending down to pick up an old Santa hat that was packed between a few boxes. “I know that. Just seeing this stuff again is odd.”
“I’ll bet.” Haru said patiently, glancing down at the hat before offering a smile. “You know… when I was younger, my mom used to play Christmas music while we decorated. She’d dance around and place me on her shoulders so that I could reach the highest part of the tree.”
Daisuke examined his partner for a second before speaking, “is she…?”
Haru inhaled slowly through his nose, forcing his smile. “She’s still alive, if that's what you’re asking. She just got married to my step mother, moved far away, and had a new family elsewhere.”
Daisuke furrowed his eyebrows, looking at the other man’s eyes carefully.
“Not like we left on bad terms. I never knew my father as he died before I was born, so she held on and loved me so deeply when it was just us. She’s just… not good at balancing two lives I guess. Only had the time to focus on her first life, and that was not me apparently.”
“Do you wish to see her?”
Haru swallowed, thinking over the question. “Sometimes. I don’t know what I would do if I did, though. I just don’t want to die without hugging her one more time. Like I used to.”
Daisuke couldn’t help but smile at the answer, looking down at the hat once more. “HEUSC, play christmas music. Turn the fireplace on as well while you’re at it.”
Haru yelped as the fire suddenly sparked to life at his side, stepping to the side quickly, only for Daisuke to halt him by placing the Santa hat onto his head. He blushed lightly, taking in the sudden atmosphere of english christmas music as Daisuke watched him with interest.
“My first decoration.” Daisuke noted, flicking the pom pom of the Santa hat out of Haru’s face.
***
A giddy feeling of joy seemed to warm its way through Haru’s chest upon watching Daisuke decorate the tree. From time to time, he swore he could hear the guy humming to the christmas songs (mostly just the slow, calm ones) with his deep, slightly raspy voice. Haru even had to sit down after hearing Daisuke hum alongside the smooth voice of Nat King Cole, needing to calm his beating heart and burning cheeks before he made a fool of himself.
“I should get going soon.” Haru sighed, looking out the window towards the night sky. “It’s getting late.”
“How would you be getting home?” Daisuke asked placing another ornament on the tree in such a perfectionist sort of way.
“The train?”
“It would leave by the time you get there.” Daisuke hummed, nodding towards the clock.
Haru pouted, closing his eyes in deep thought before giving the other man a scowl. “You can drive me.”
Daisuke smirked, turning his back to the tree to look down at Haru. “I don’t know how to drive.” he lied.
Haru gaped and stood up from his seat, walking over to Daisuke with an irritated expression. “Oh please. That’s the most blatant lie I ever heard. You drove us here.”
“I have no memory of these events.” Daisuke continued to tease, leaving Haru by the tree to grab another ornament. “We have multiple guest rooms so take your pick.”
Haru ignored him, crossing his arms over his chest, the decorations on his sweater clicking up against each other. “Where has Suzue gone? Maybe she can drive me home. Better yet, I’ll just walk home myself.”
With a smile, Daisuke stood up close in front of Haru, effectively backing him up against the tree as he reached behind the inspector to hang an ornament. Haru gulped, flustered at the fact the situation he was in looked a lot like he was being trapped in some sort of festive kabedon.  “Stay the night, Haru.”
Haru let out a nervous whine at the unexpectedly soft request, not even processing completely that Daisuke had said his first name again.
“Haru.” Daisuke spoke again, stepping closer and placing his hand against Haru’s wrist.
“Okay,” Haru breathed, feeling the butterflies in his stomach as Daisuke watched him with such fondness and care, even as he started to lean in ever so slightly. “Dai–”
“Lord Daisuke, you have– oh!” Suzue suddenly appeared, causing Haru to shrink away from Daisuke once she saw just how close they were. Bowing in embarrassment, she continued to speak. “Sorry for the intrusion. Just thought you should know that some of your coworkers are at the front door. They brought some drinks and treats with them, saying they wanted to help you decorate.”
Daisuke looked over at Haru who was currently hiding his face behind the other side of the tree, before looking back at his cousin. “Let them in. I’ll clear some space in here for their food and drinks.”
Suzue smiled awkwardly, glancing over at Haru before quickly hurrying out of the room.
After a moment of silence, Daisuke removed some of the boxes from the coffee table, placing them near the bins they came from. “Will you get a ride back home from one of the others?”
Haru finally looked out from behind the tree, still flustered but stern enough to look Daisuke in the eye. “I already agreed to staying the night, didn’t I?”
Hearing the giggles and laughs coming from Shinnosuke, Mahoro, and Tepei nearing closer to them, Daisuke stood up a little straighter, struggling to mask the genuine smile from his face. “I’m glad to hear it.”
***
The tree was fully decorated faster than they had thought, along with a majority of the foyer (thanks to all of the helping hands). So, as an excuse to celebrate, Mahoro and Shinnosuke took the liberty of popping some bottles and singing along–loudly–to the christmas music Daisuke had put on earlier when it had just been him and Haru.
He wasn’t necessarily upset that the others were here. In fact he enjoyed the company as he was still getting used to having friends in general. Even seeing Suzue finally loosening up when talking to Mahoro was enough to make him happy. Even someone as inexperienced as himself could tell there was a tiny bit of a spark between the two women.
However, every now and then throughout the “party” he would find himself alone with Haru, who would immediately grow tense when there was no one else to match energies with. Daisuke was both pleased with his effect on the other man, but otherwise very impatient knowing that he was cut off from their previous moment together.
“I’m going to drive Mahoro home, seeing that she is rather drunk at the moment.” Suzue spoke, watching the said girl with amusement who was currently dancing her ass off against Shinnosuke to some pop cover of an old holiday song. “Tepei told me he would be driving Shinnosuke home as well since they all arrived in his car.”
Daisuke hummed in agreement, noticing Haru who was subtly filming his coworkers for supposed future use against them. For some reason, Haru hadn’t drank anything alcoholic the entire night, which was surprising for him.
“While we are gone, try to make Haru feel more at home.” Suzue smiled knowingly, putting on an innocent expression when Daisuke looked at her. “He’s been super jumpy all night. Least you could do is give him closure from what I unfortunately interrupted earlier.”
Daisuke’s eyes widened, feeling a sudden urge to break his usual character and shove her away much like he used to when she annoyed him as a child. “Just go. Lead them outside to their cars.”
Suzue giggled, bowing her head before getting Tepei’s help to herd the two drunks out of the mansion.
Haru watched them leave, snorting as he waved goodbye. “I’m glad I stayed sober for this tonight.”
Daisuke walked over to him, placing his hands in his pockets. “If you’d follow me, I can lead you to your room.”
Haru observed him carefully, a timid smile on his face. “Alright…” he spoke, getting up from his seat to follow Daisuke out of the parlor and towards a long hallway. It was slightly familiar based on the other times he has been in the mansion. Though he never got a proper tour. “I thought you said I could pick which guest room I wanted.”
“I took the liberty of choosing for you,” Daisuke spoke, ignoring Haru’s stubborn huff. “This room is only a few doors down from my own room.”
Haru slowed to a stop behind Daisuke, yet again growing more and more flustered.
“I don’t say this often enough to you but I wanted to say thank you.” Daisuke said quickly, as if he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to get it out. “For helping me through this. Even if it's something so simple and temporary as Christmas decorations.”
Haru swallowed thickly before stepping into the guest room. “The holiday season is always temporary but it means a lot to put effort in it.” he muttered, sitting down slowly onto the bed. Haru watched as Daisuke hesitantly walked in after him. “I want to thank you as well though.”
“Oh?”
Haru rubbed his hands against his pants anxiously. “I usually spend it alone. Oftentimes I decorate stuff all by myself. The only time I ever go out is to get drunk with the others. I know we have a few more days until it's actually christmas, but I truly feel more… present thanks to you.”
Daisuke watched him with surprise, before taking a step closer. “You’re free to spend christmas with me if you'd like,” he said a little too eagerly, “Christmas eve too.”
Haru smiled up at him, cocking his head to the side as Daisuke stood right at Haru’s feet. “I’d like that a lot,” He whispered, reaching up to take hold of Daisuke’s hand. “Daisuke.”
With one more look, as if asking permission, Daisuke was now leaning down, capturing Haru’s lips with his own.
This kiss was soft and brief, that is until Haru suddenly took hold of the back of Daisuke’s head and pulled him in for a longer kiss.
Stumbling slightly, Daisuke pushed Haru back so that he could lean over him on the bed, melting into each kiss with such disbelief and passion. Haru snorted into a small fit of giggles at Daisuke’s uncharacteristic clumsiness before wrapping his arms and legs around him to bring the millionaire closer.
Neither of them would have thought that Haru’s ugly sweater this morning would have led to such a thing as this.

HEROES: RISING!! RAMBLINGS & SPOILERS
Literally got out of the movie, got home, showered & sat down to type this out so its probably incoherent lol, I’ve tried to keep my notes in chronological order though
THE ANIMATIOOOONNNN!!! THE ANIMATION FOR THE WHOLE DAMN MOVIE WAS S O GOOD BUT ESPECIALLY THE FIGHT SCENES & CGI USE
HAWKS!!!!! we finally got him animated AND Nakamura Yuuichi’s voice for him was perfect
Endeavor vs Dabi..... 2!!! TodorokiTouyaSayWhat
Honesty?? the hero commission and UA agreeing to send a bunch of trainees off to an isolated area with no support at all from pros?? total BS lol like I get it the movie needs its set-up but goddamn there’s no way anyone actually would’ve thought that was a good idea in-universe
Another complaint: there was too much M*neta, that’s all
EVERYONE IN CLASS 1-A REALLY GOT TIME TO SHINE!! seeing everyone doing lil jobs around the island was adorable
Kiri freaking out over making a baby cry had by giggling lmao he’s so cute
Sero sectioning off the beach,,  I Love The He
Momo was so cute this entire goddamn movie like wow I did not realise I loved her this much, best girl
MAHORO AND KATSUMA!!!!! so freaking cute and I LOVED Mahoro’s sass
Also loved all Mahroro and Bakugou’s interactions, king of explodokills gonna throw down with an eight year old lmao
Speaking of Bakugou: Him constantly yelling ‘Don’t give me orders’ only to then follow said orders?? iconic
ALSO ICONIC: Midoriya basically fucking tackling him to stop him from getting into it with Mahoro, the cain instinct everybody
Nine has a hella cool design and like I CANNOT be the only one who thinks he looks at bit like the first OFA user AND Nana Shimura, ESPECIALLY with his hair down
He looked cool but he’s a fuckin stupid villian, ‘I want a world where the strong rule over the weak’ bitch what world do you think you’re living in now???
Not to be a villain-fucker on main but Shigaraki was rlly hot in this movie
I straight up GASPED when Nine’s blue dragon-y thing got Bakugou, I literally thought he was gonna get cut in half
Momo and Denki literally exhausting their quirks to keep the islanders safe.... IM PROUD OF THESE FLEDGLING HEROES
SHOJI!!!!! Shoji was SO good this movie!! gentlest giant ever! the ammount of times he shielded Mahoro & Katsuma with no regard for himself :’))
Mina and Tokoyami was an unexpectedly cool team-up, Dark Shadow going sicko mode when Mina gor hurt? I FELT that
Todoroki ‘Petty’ Shouto voice: My father told me to push my body to its limits with my fire & then use my ice to cool myself down,,,,, I’m gonna do the exact opposite and almost definitely give myself hypothermia
Seriously!!! the way he just kinda curled up on the ground after defeating Chimera??? that shit hurted
Red Riot is on the scene! And once again I was blown away by how freaking awesome unbreakable is
Uravity and Cellophane?? did you mean team up of the motherfucking century???
Uraraka pushed herself so goddamn hard she was AMAZING, that last stunt with the logs holding back the literal WAVE of boulders? plus fuckin ultra
Aoyama was also hella plus ultra, king has an incompatible quirk that gives him severe stomach pain but he still pushed himself so far past his limits
Momo, on the verge of collapse, quirk exhausted: Hey everyone I made two whole goddamn canons
Seriously where’s that post about how Momo loves canons despite their impracticality, this is getting ridiculous
Using Kaminari as a freaking lightning rod,, jfc
Everyone in the cinema lost their SHIT at Bakugou and Midoriya reaching for each other,, Midoriya saying ‘It’s fine if it’s you’ I was C R Y I N G
Bakugou kicked Midoriya out of the way of one of Nine’s blasts, he could’ve grabbed him or yelled at him to dodge but no, he decided on  kicking him out of the way
The cain instinct strikes again
Seeing all of the OFA predecessors animated?? seeing Midoriya in that grey-scale with the orange flame just like All Might at Kamino?? YALL ;-;
‘This is... the final Smash. Goodbye One For All. Thank you’
Bakugou finally fucking got to say ‘detroit smash’. god bless
Nine literally summoning A Whole Fucking Tornado TM only for Midoriya and Bakugou to punch said Whole Fucking Tornado TM into submission, I can’t
I thought Deku was gonna use Black Whip in this movie??? I really guess they were trying to avoid as many manga spoilers as possible
Might+U during the final confrontation with Nine,,,, good fuckin use of the song
Actually, the whole soundtrack was brilliant, Hayashi Yuki is a fucking genius
All Might holding Bakugou and Midoriya’s hands, thanking OFA’s predecessors, aaaaaAAAAAAAAA
‘Win to save and save to win, with that you can become the ultimate heroes’
SPEAKING OF THAT ^ Bakugou being the one to save Mahoro whilst Deku goes in for the attack on Nine?? character growth babey
The callbacks to Kamino,, ‘You’re Next’,, the United States of Smash,, All Might is the best don’t @ me
Bakugou not keeping OFA and not even remembering he had it was a total asspull but I’m willing to write it off as ‘Oh well the movies are only semi-canon anyways also Plot Armour’
Bakugou calling Sero by his name,, Bakugou letting Kaminari live after calling him ‘Bakugou no Kacchan-kun’,,, the team up to take down Mummy, ‘Kirishima is the only person Bakugou’s actually friends with’ WHERE??
Deku telling Katsuma ‘you can become a hero’! we’ve come full circle and it made me fucking CRY
Also,, the way Katsuma wants to be strong hero who can beat up any villain??? and the way Mahoro is a protective person who was literally willing to give up her life for her baby brother??? ‘win to save and save to win’??? the fuckin PARALLELS ya’ll
Bakugou and Midoriya are brothers don’t @ me I know I’m fucking right
I didn’t entirely understand what Katsuma’s quirk actually IS??? ‘cell activation’ means fuck all lmao
Todoroki’s FACE when Endeavour was hugging him, like literaly boi had almost frozen himself solid but he still somehow managed to look more disgruntled dealing with his dad
IIDA REALLY GOT TO STEP UP!! he and Momo taking charge and delegating tasks?? Iida going in BY HIMSELF to distract Chimera? Iida using Torque Over??? IM SO PROUD :’)
Speaking of Chimera what the fuck even is his quirk? at first I just thought he had a mutant-type quirk then I was like ‘oh cool it’s actually a transformation-type’ then he started shooting his fucking mouTH BEAM and like isn’t that an emitter??? how the hell can he do all that with Just One Quirk
Nine: ‘There can only be... one leader’
Shigaraki, disintegrating him: ‘Yeah and it’s me bitch’
the future king has arrived,,,
In conclusion: platonic bkdk rights, dadmight is canon, I would die for Mahoro & Katsuma, go beyond plus ultra!

reactions to the bnha: heroes rising film
spoilers alert !
(i risked coronavirus to go to the cinema for this but no regrets because we all want to die anyway oof-)
the film was very 1a centred & that’s gr8 and all especially since we got to witness the bond they had between them & just. how incredibly amazing their teamwork is
but i really ,,, miss,,, aizawa (my fave, my tru love)
he had a total of 3 (?) scenes, each of them lasting like less than 10 secs - even toshinori had more scenes than that : (
but you know who even had less screen time (aka none),,, our boy,,, the valid purple son,,,, shinsou hitoshi : (
the person who had the most screen time was this new villain called nine and i really wanna yell begone thot at him because he was like “i want to create a utopia where the powerful rules” and i was like thinking,, yo that shit sounds like capitalism & neoliberalism
his character design was really pretty, but it didn’t make up for his ideology that came outta nowhere with no backstory - so it was really hard to empathise/sympathise
what makes a villain good is 1) sufficient backstory 2) being so damn predictable and familiar that you actually prefer them over every other new villain because better the devil you know than the devil you don’t know
anyway, what really slaps is kacchan’s fuckin character development !!
lil gremlin is still gremlin but ,, he’s working with other kids,, he’s minimising damage done to the area while fighting villains,, there was a scene of him all calm and shit while eavesdropping on izuku and katsuma (which once again proves that most of his anger is just a front he puts up in front of other people rather than a perpetual state, and ya know what, i love that introvertedness that he has),,, him being protective over the bakusquad and not blasting kaminari for teasing him,,, he and izuku fighting together like a hero duo ,,,, eye-
this movie really said bakugo character development hUH
anyway in the beginning when endeavour showed up and dabi and endeavour had this whole showdown with their fire quirks and we got this close up of endeavour’s thicc thighs and i was like :           ) we don’t stan for this here but at the same time i was like @ hawks damn ur daddy really be like that, huH
which reminds me of my whole spiel about dabi/hawks and endeavour/hawks : ‘ )
but yea. dabi was unfairly attractive and i just want death to consume me
okay so the plot was like,, the hero commission (aka the dodgy ass institution): how about sending the 1a kids to an island where there are no active heroes ??
so the 1a kids get yeeted off to an island,, and they are having fun helping the locals out !! (this is the wholesome content we all deserve)
jirou and yaomomo asdgjhskgjahkj
kacchan who stays at home the entire day because he’s on ~villain duty~ and there weren’t any villains so he just sits at home and read manga asdfghjkl that’s a hard Mood
kirishima looking like the cutie he is eye-
the bakusquad teasing kacchan by calling him “kacchan of bakugo”
how is maharo & katsuma so damn cute *angery fists*
but izuku really be adopting children left and right hUh
dadmight and dadzawa whomst i only know dadku
ochako & tsuyu are so cute wtf eye-
these villains are overpowered af wtf
wow i love 1a having each other’s backs their teamwork,, was ,,, so good,,, so smooth ,,, (*whispers* poly 1-a anyone ??)
everyone be losing until kacchan comes blasTing in, saving kirishima & kaminari with sheer determination and stubbornness and manages to defeat one (1) villain
not going to lie though i feel like mummy got done dirty like that
but i like the little nod to the provisional exam arc
the inflated izuku mahoro projected was the Cutest
anyway what really clapped was you know,, both izuku and kacchan being the smort cookies they are: “DIDN’T I TELL YOU THAT ONCE I’VE SEEN YOU USE IT, I HAVE A WAY OF COUNTERING IT?!"
like oof
also i love how izuku is established as the image of hope (the saviour) and kacchan is established as the image of victory (the victor) - this whole “win to save” and “save to win” really got laid down really heavily
but we’re all hoes for that i guess
touga in her winter gear !!! eye-
yaomomo delivering the Goods (i.e. the cannons)
a o y a m a : (
the moment i realised that tokoyami was in the cave, i knew the villain there was Done For
i haven’t forgotten our resident eldritch abomination, dark shadow, y’all
i just ?? love ?? mina ???? so much ??????
ngl i didn’t know chimera was literally a chimera until this part i just thought he one big furry
oof
that flashback to endeavour’s advice when shouto was fighting chimera ?? the symBoLisM wow
shouto being able to rationally separate endeavour the hero and endeavour the shitty dad & using the advice endeavour gave him to empower himself -
- wipes tears
sero and ochako getting blasted away really badly by nine,,, and izuocha happens but we’ve all seen that before
it is kacchan,, ,, being protective of sero when he got yeeted,,,,, that is the Point
THE BEST PART ABT THE SECOND LAST FIGHT WAS LITERALLY BKDK BEING SO IN SYNC WITH EACH OTHER’S MOVES THAT THEY WERE FIGHTING LIKE A HERO DUO ??
LIKE IZUKU KICKING THE VILLAIN, REBOUNDING OFF THE SHIELD,, AND THEN FLYING OFF JUST FOR KACCHAN TO GRAB IZUKU’S HAND AND FLING HIM BACK AT THE VILLAIN FOR A SECOND ATTACK
THE WHOLE HANDHOLDING THING IS STARTING TO COME OUT AS A MOTIF
AND I JUST WOW ,,, BKDK,, (platonic or romantic or otherwise) OUT HERE,, HOLDING HANDS AS EQUALS,,, SYMBOLIC OF THEIR CHANGING RELATIONSHIP,,,,
s h o u j i : ( protecting mahoro and katsuma with his body : ( big cuddle boy doesn’t deserve this pain !!!
don’t think i didn’t notice the film using the same bgm as the kamino rescue
it draws such a powerful parallel ??  back then it was kacchan who needed to be ‘saved'  but now it’s kacchan doing the saving & the winning - once again, such character development asdfghjkl
this film,, making me appreciate kaminari 10x more
also fellas is it gay to stare at your rival and being able to communicate non-verbally
bkdk detroit smashing the storm together & making a damn fucking hole in the stratosphere like all might,, dispelling the damn storm and letting sunlight filter in ?? that was some really obvious symbolism but regardless,,,, wow
this is the part where the whole twin stars motif really came right in kicking our houses down
kacchan breaking both of his arms because of one for all & all i can think of is ,, izuku,, stop sharing your bone breaking juice with people
i’m just thinking about how people @ izuku: wtf how do you deal with this bone breaking bs all the time
and izuku, pure bean: oh yea haha i thought it was normal ?? like everyone has to get used to their quirks like this ??
a concept: quirkless izuku not understanding how quirks are supposed to feel
anyway, dadmight cradling izuku in his arms only to leave kacchan a metre away ?? favouritism that we’re all here for
izuku : ( apologising : ( for : ( being : ( a : ( bad : ( successor : (
i just want to shake izuku’s shoulders & tell him that he did super well and that he shouldn’t be ashamed of himself and that he deserves everything good in this world
also imagine being so gremlin that all the one for all predecessors were like "nope we’re not dealing with this gremlin child, we prefer the pure broccoli”
disappointed that hawks didn’t get enough screentime
but we got some hawks & tokoyami and ryuukyuu & ochako time
kacchan ~conveniently~ forgetting what happened ?? i smell something fishy
our local crusty boy shows up & ahh yes, there it is - the close up shot that like to remind us that he needs to Moisturise
everytime i see red shoes on shigs i just think about the parallels between shigs and izuku and my heart breaks all over again
the scene where shouto got hugged super uncomfortably by endeavour ?? oof. the entire cinema just simultaneously laughed and heard the shouuuuutooooo
katsuma being like like “i’m going to become a hero like deku & bakugo !” and kacchan’s acting all cool and shit, telling him “you better” while izuku is like “katsuma, you can become a hero !! we’ll wait for you at ua !!” because he saw himself in katsuma and wanted to be the person he wanted someone to be for him when he was young
breaking my own heart like this
imagine the first years in ten years though
they’re just going to be a bunch of teenagers izuku or 1-a saved or adopted
and they’re going to give aizawa so many more grey hairs than the current 1-a

I was kinda frustrated and intrigued at the same time after watching ep 6. I mean, we did get some types of development with Arajin, but the pacing and the writing is a little bit irregular for me. That being said, it's just a fun little anime about delinquents so there's no use having high expectations, and in terms of entertainment the contract has been fulfilled.
I'm not going to dive into what I liked and didn't like 'cause I'm waiting to see more to form a better opinion on the show.
But here are some of my predictions or what to expect for the second part of the anime:
Senya/Ichiya: they probably have a history as rivals or something, at least it's insinuated from the beginning. They are most likely a parallel to Arajin/Matakara and as many said before I think Ichiya is going to merge with Matakara and he and Arajin will eventually fight. For what reason? I have no clue, maybe Mata's brother Mitsukuni is going to have an important role in the upcoming events.
Mitsukuni/his relationship with Matakara: something is definitely going to happen after Mitsukuni goes out of juvie. We know he was the former leader of the Minato Kai gang, so what will his role be next? Perhaps he'll be the trigger that will make Matakara merge with Ichiya. At least, I think Mata will turn to his brother instead of Arajin and his brother's presence will change something in his relationship with Arajin. Idk I feel like something will happen because of him
Mahoro's development: I thought Mahoro was not going to be important and we'd rarely see her. But she's not just a love interest, she showed us that besides being a brocon and manipulating others, she has unshakeable character, she's strong. Didn't like her at first, but now I think she's interesting. I'm curious what her character can do to help move the plot even further. She has the potential to actually be the hero of her own story and evolve. I think she'll help Arajin for something big in the future
Arajin, his goal and the gangs: we saw how Arajin didn't want to have anything to do with the gangs and their fights. He is still uninterested to join a gang and jumps from one gang to another just so he can get Mahoro's attention. He's also scared to be seen as weak again. The fact that he couldn't save Matakara has haunted him til now. He has avoided his trauma and fixed his mind on a new goal. Arajin may have wanted to be a Honkibito with Matakara but his childhood dream is buried deep down in his heart and his only wish is to be a normal teenager, have a girlfriend, lose his virginity, what he thinks society expects of a teenage boy. And they are in a men's world so there's this demonstration of masculinity conveyed with all the fights and disputes between gangs, but in the end, Arajin rejects that. He wants to enter a women's world through Mahoro because the men's world disappointed him in the past. There's something interesting about genders here i think but it's just speculations at the moment, we'll see how the story progresses
So yeah I think the last part of the anime will focus on Arajin doing a little introspection because for once he is seen as strong, he got up to defend someone and he is not left with shame, but with the cheers of everyone. By defeating Akutaro, maybe he finally defeated his fear, so I guess a new arc is starting for our mc and he is going to reevaluate his goal and his relationships with others. Will he fix his relationship with Matakara though? That's unsure if we consider them fighting at the end.
But anyway, these are my predictions for next episodes or more exactly my speculations. I may have been disappointed with some of the writing choices, but I still expect to be surprised by the end. I think they really tried to change our vision of the shonen genre with the comedy and tropes so I'm still really curious! It's not the best anime of the season, not by far, but it did subvert all my expectations so yeah I'm intrigued!

bucchigiri ep 10 thoughts:
shindo is doing the absolute most 💀 chill out sweetie we all know you're evil
matakara seeeeeems back to normal but he's def not. zabu is gonna catch on I think
so is ichiya taking over matakara like a full possession thing or is it a 'warped' version of matakara
more catboy storytime let's goooooo
ok since reading that one utena greek choir post about these segments I've been trying to look harder into them. basically, the customer is arajin and jasmine is matakara. arajin is figuring out he wants matakara in his life, but matakara is already too far gone off the deep end of despair and inferiority to care (ie. 'seeing other customers') also might have something to do with ichiya 'shopping around' bodies to fight senya with, witch matakara or shindo being the customer?
ahh it's still matakara he's just very emotionally fucked up i see
oh shit is marito finally gonna have something to do again?
the monster thing is backkk
my prediction is matakara is going to beat kenichiro maybe?
ichiya's smile is pretty and so evil I'd let him possess me in a heartbeat
mint chocolate chip ftw
holy shit the fight animation here is so good
arajin DO SOMETHING
the lighting in this scene is very pretty. the colors in this show are always top notch
aww marito cares in his strange way
zabu is a good friend to matakara, but matakara is letting his fear get in the way and being an asshole as a result. direct parallel to arajin and matakara's friendship fallout.
komao standing up for zabu hell yeah
does this school have any staff? besides the cat teacher, I mean
matakara's eyes are so empty it makes me sad
LMAOOO he couldn't even keep ara in class
i think this is supposed to be a little intentional character moment for arajin here. at the beginning, he wanted to have an average highschool life and rejected being absorbed into the delinquent social hierarchy for as long as he could. now, he's running from normal school responsibilities and intentionally embroiling himself in a conflict for matakara's sake
so is it mandatory that the merging mark thing has to be near/on the ass or
as sad as I am for matakara I am very excited for him fighting merged with ichiya
senya fights with punches, ichiya fights with kicks
matakara, mahoro is not gonna be on your side much longer if you keep kicking the shit out of her brother (how is mahoro going to play in the finale I wonder? if she isn't completely sidelined, that is)
senya FINALLY shows up and we don't even get to know what he's gonna say until next week ughhhh
pretty good episode, but not quite as tight as the last two felt imo. feels like this was mostly setup for our final two episodes. I expect matakara is going to face kenichiro next episode and win. senya is gonna explain the whole deal with ichiya to ara next time, as implied by him appearing at the end. (though im not sure I have a clue where he's been all this time? just hiding?) I think it'd be a good beat for senya's story to resonate with ara and lead to him resolving to help (ie. fight) matakara
edit: just saw the after credits hmmm. they're def gonna play up ken's emotional duty to protect matakara next episode as they facedown. maybe ken is going to bring up matakara's brother? interesting.
