"why would you ship mizu and taigen together they're sooooo toxic ugh taigen is AWFUL and mizu should be with ME instead!!!"
of course they're toxic they're both deranged and terrible and that's why they're perfect for each other.
cuz like omg you think mizu would treat you well? mizu would abandon you. look at how she left ringo multiple times. ringo who treats her so well and is nothing but patient and caring and loyal. if you are insecure she will laugh at you because she has no social tact. look at how mikio said "it's a stupid dream" talking about his ambitions of regaining his honour and mizu straight up chuckles and tells him he's right because it IS a stupid dream. and at this point their relationship was cordial and she was even warming up to him!
like. arguably, taigen would be a better romantic partner (per the ideals of his time and culture of course), or at least he would be on paper. cuz i mean as a husband, as he is now, i think he'd be awful. but i'm talking about if you and him were dating or courting or just seeing each other romantically, he would be good to you. like we saw how he behaved with akemi and he was nothing but sweet and gentle. the very reason akemi wanted to marry him so bad was because she KNOWS without a doubt that he respects women and would treat her well. "oh but he cheated on her with the prostitutes while celebrating his engagement!" yeah but per the norms of the time and place, it was not considered cheating and akemi (as well as any wife or romantic partner of that period) would not have minded or even cared.
and yes taigen IS an asshole and he IS obnoxious but come on. so is mizu, if she is allowed to act like herself around you. mizu will tease you and mock you and challenge you and even poke at your insecurities (see:her goading mikio on even though he clearly did not view her teasing as light-hearted banter and took it all very personally). she would tell you to your face if she thinks you're being annoying (see:mizu rolling her eyes and telling akemi to straight up just "shut up" when she'd believed mizu had killed taigen).
mizu is not merely a hot and talented badass with a sword and the insane hyperfocus on her desire for revenge which literally drives her to withstand like, extreme amounts of damage and survive it. mizu is also flawed and the show does a good job at showcasing this, and showing us that she's not merely a victim but also a multilayered person. we see throughout that mizu is blunt and sarcastic and prideful.
oh what's that? oh right, very similar to taigen, who is also hot and talented with a sword and with insane hyperfocus on his desire to duel mizu and regain his honour. taigen who is also flawed (though, arguably, more so) as he is blunt and sarcastic and prideful.
the only thing that sets mizu and taigen apart is the fact that taigen is a man and is not mixed race, which thus affects their positions in society and how people perceive them. these are external factors. taigen being a boy who is not blue-eyed allowed him to easily mingle with the other kids in the village, all of whom were similarly fed the same prejudiced values which led them to gang up against mizu and bully her.
but take all that away. strip them down to the bare essentials. suddenly it's like they are the same person copy and pasted.
and that's what makes them even more interesting. yes absolutely they would be toxic. whatever souls are made of, mizu's and taigen's are the same (derogatory). and we literally see them fight all the time!!!! but the thing is they are both deranged when it comes to this.
do you get me. they both literally get turned on by sparring. mizu's whole spar with mikio was her way of flirting. just look at how she smirked at him and said "unsheathe it" like it's clear that this is an innuendo of not just unsheathing his weapon but also what's in his pants. then during the chopsticks fight with taigen in the snow, despite mizu literally being injured and taigen trying to attack her, mizu gets attracted to him. meanwhile taigen got a boner after wrestling with her in the forge.
taigen goes around saying he wants to kill mizu to regain his honour but he still literally risks life and limb for her constantly. mizu gives ringo stomach ulcers by going around flinging herself into near-death situations 24/7. she ups and leaves her beloved swordfather with barely a goodbye twice to pursue her batshit far-fetched quest for revenge (against people she doesn't even KNOW btw because she literally starts off with practically No Leads and not even knowing the NAMES of the white men who are her maybe-fathers).
these bitches are crazy and you know what good for them. that shit needs to be contained and quarantined though and that's why in that sense they would be good together.
i want to put them both in a jar and shake it very hard and see what happens. personally i think they will argue and insult each other while working perfectly in sync with each other to break out of the jar and then proceed to kill me and make out sloppy style over my dead body while they're both covered in blood.
like that's it that's the dynamic. send post.

Ik that the Erins will not handle her well at all but I’m so interested in Moonpaw’s sister as a character actually (Maybe more so than actual Moonpaw tbh…).
The writing of the book and even the warriors website treats her as if she’s Completely Evil (going so far as to literally name a character trait of hers as ‘malevolent’ on the website) but like… This isn’t just an evil spooky spirit cat being evil just Because. This is the ghost of a kid who never got to grow up properly, never was properly parented, who had to live vicariously through watching and interacting with Moonpaw when she was a kitten. She had nobody else who could hear her, no other contact with anyone else. And Thunderclan refused to even acknowledge she EXISTED whatsoever, even hiding it from Moonpaw herself. So when Moonpaw suddenly needs to focus without someone chatting to her all the time, and begins to treat her sister like a nuisance and literally begins ignoring her… it would make sense that said sister, who basically has the mindset of a jealous, hurt, abandoned kid, would be mad about it. This is her ONE CONNECTION WITH ANYONE. So her being all ‘if I can’t be with you in your world, you’ll be with me in mine’ makes sense. Moonpaw is all she has. I’m on your side voicepaw….

damn do i wish it had been adam instead of neo who joined cinder in mistral to go to atlas. him falling deeper into the salem-side of things, grasping for any little control he can have over his life after the events of haven when he lost the support of his people, standing in the sidelines, witnessing the dynamic between cinder and salem, his thoughts on it considering his own past.
like cinder has referred to salem as her / their master, that's a loaded word right there, and with "without you, i am nothing"... that's a lot for adam to take in, to reconsider what he has gotten himself into—is he back to being someone else's slave?
. . . and then cinder goes and disobeys salem's very direct orders anyway and adam's like. hell yeah >:)

Quick question one fan to another. Do you think Phillip knew he was related to Eda & Lilith? And would have knowing about his family made any difference or was he just too far gone?
genuinely? hard to tell
i mean dana claims "Some people do know"
and philip COULD of been one of them, and you could say that's a factor in why eda and lilith are targeted the way they were
but on another hand, you can also kinda sum that up as a result of remembering lilith from his past and therefore disliking her from that, and eda herself being the prime example of rebellion against his authority
there's nothing in the show that concretely proves he knew
especially since a lot of it relies on knowing about what happened with caleb and evelyn, which once again, is left with a lot of wiggle room
like we don't even know if philip actually knew evelyn's last name at all, or if he knew of her or about her long enough for that
when that stuff is all pretty vauge it's just yeahhhhh
if we are to assume Philip knew evelyn was pregnant he would have to be AWARE caleb has witch decedents probably, but he wasn't in power till 50 years ago, so i don't also see how he could keep an eye on caleb's entire family line either for 400 years
also also, maybe philip went after evelyn and said kid, maybe he just...gave up after caleb died and moved onto other things (It's still not even clear how evelyn got his door after all, if we are to assume it's evelyn's doing, because the door appears to be post caleb death)
(Look, i've been over this a few times, this timeline kinda doesn't really make sense, i'm kinda not convinced the crew planned out a proper timeline of events for the wittebanes because there are things that currently kinda don't make sense)
yeah idk, it's kinda left more up to your interpretation, like if you see belos as knowing nothing really proves you wrong
but yeah, nothing proves it right either, philip had plenty of other established reasons to single out lilith and eda outside of that concept.
i don't think it would of made any difference nonetheless, like maybe if philip saw his niece/nephew as more human then witch there could of been a dynamic of him thinking he could "Fix" them, but on another hand philip is shown to not trust anything and anyone who isn't a human like him.
The guy is very much been brainwashed by how he grew up to believe everything he doesn't understand is trying to manipulate him and hurt him, and i don't think any family he may have in the clawthornes would make him see witches differently
honestly i wouldn't be shocked if in his mind, evelyn and caleb having a kid to him is like a demon stealing someone he held dear to use for offspring because of how deluded he is about this stuff
granted, that also depends heavily on how you think philip assumes about the situation, him believing caleb was under a spell and him believing Caleb did everything of his own will have DRASTICLY different implications about why he did what he did.
so yeah, if you're to ask me this is all more of the same "This is kinda supported by canon but is also kinda not" stuff that is kinda all over the wittebane backstory in general
if we ever get that wittebane backstory, they have a lot of clear up here because there's a lot left to interpretation and it's kinda why people have very drastically different opinions on how aspects of this character were handled.
guy should of been destroyed at the end no matter what of course, but
people seeing him as a more tragic unredeemable villian doomed from the beginning due to growing up in extremism as a child and no guidance to pull him out of it so he just got worse and worse, and people who see him as just an asshole who never cared about his brother and was perfectly capable of getting out of his brainwashing is very much a result of leaving a lot of this stuff kinda up to interpretation

What do you think of Dr Lanyon, like I think he's a neat character but I would love to hear other's opinions about him!!
i agree that he is neat !! honestly my biggest qualms with the musical is that characters like lanyon and enfield don’t really have an prominence in it. i think lanyon is really interesting though, because he is such a narrative foul to jekyll. they are both men of science, both passionate men, but oh very different sides of the great scientific divide. lanyon believes in rules and convention - jekyll sees this as being small minded, too harshly bound by the rules of society. jekyll experiments with things beyond human comprehension - lanyon sees this as a sort of blasphemy in the realm of science
i think, really either of them could have ended up at the extreme which jekyll inevitably feel prey too, he was just always more likely since his path was one of a much less understood nature. but i think, lanyon could be just as obsessive, or at one point was - part of me believes he started to step back a little upon seeing jekyll grow so bitter and isolated, perhaps fearing himself becoming like that too
i think, though, lanyon does still care about jekyll, even when they’re no longer friends. as much as he may have feared becoming like him, he pities that jekyll is like that at all
what’s interesting also is that, for all the two have distanced themselves from each other, for all the divide that’s come between them, it is lanyon who sees jekyll transform from hyde. it is lanyon, who is in every way jekyll, except for his stance on the unnatural, who bears witness to this unnatural thing. dramatic irony, then, or perhaps lanyon was always destined to fall to the same extremes as jekyll, only for him it was witnessing jekyll’s infliction firsthand
but where jekyll gave into what hyde represented - that unnatural, incomprehensible side of science - lanyon could not accept it. it shook him to him core, until he could not recover from it. i saw this quote from the book in an article or on a website once, and it’s always stuck with me in regards to lanyon:
I saw what I saw, I heard what I heard, and my soul sickened at it; and yet, now when that sight has faded from my eyes I ask myself if I believe it and I cannot answer. My life is shaken to the roots.
jekyll - his experient, his hyde - it entirely changed lanyon’s life. it changed his whole view on the world but not in a way that enlightened him, no. in a way that made him weak and weary, drained the very life from him. a man of science, and yet it is a science beyond what he has imagined which is his undoing. i think, actually, dr lanyon is more tragic than he is given credit for. undone by things he had once cared so deeply for - science, and henry jekyll
all that is to say, i think lanyon is neat

I gotta admit, the people who bend over backwards to defend Sophia or like... cut her slack they don't give Emma or Madison (and they do exist, most notably Pendragoon, my god does she love giving Sophia a pass) baffle the fuck out of me, and having read all of Sophia and Taylor's convo in 27.3, I don't see how anyone can look at her as anything other than delusional.
Racism in fandom is a thing, major problem, but sometimes I feel like some people (who pride themselves as being super pro-queer and super progressive and stuff) will just bend over backwards to defend a character just because they're black or just because their queer or whatever and that's... not as bad as the racism directed at a character for just being black, etc, but it sure ain't good.
