Phyr and Ophelie are over 2 years old.

All three unnamed dragons are g1, and the aether is release-day hatch-date.

Insanely salty g1 rant

I love collecting G1's but lately have been tempted to just... purge my entire 7+ year old lair of them. Getting sick of being pinged for sales only to be met with either "idk here's a link to my 4 sales tabs no haggling good luck" and its 5000 mildly decent XYZs over 500g a pop or an entire forum pamphlet of scries with 30 apparel and a UMA that hasn't been printed in 3 years with only 4 copies in existence and its basic bitch "floaty fabric + blind fold" and you can't even tell what colors or genes the damn dragon was scried with. Don't want to pay 50 usd eqv for just a decent XYZ? Ill lower the price by like maybe 10g each week and then just exhalt them after three weeks if I can't get 700g for it that means nobody wants it.

Even when i don't interact with G1 collectors its gettinf to be unpleasant. Just sold a nice G1 at a low price cause idgaf I need space for my new breeding projects and lo, am blocked, but the dragon appears to be permanent like wtf is your problem, why do this? I didn't do anything to you? Was it a reflex? Are you gobbling up highly-desirable G1's for cheap from people who don't know any better and then blocking them out of shame and that's why you have a massive amount of random doubles that don't fit your basic bitch dark/neutral color gem gene wildclaw UMA lair? Like you don't have to block me I was going to buy from one of your threads later cause I've particulated in this market you can clearly tell by my acct age + 100's of G1's like i know that was an insanely low price. Otherwise if you thought it was a mistake/ignorance, its still scummy af to block people (unless of course they pester for it back thats harassment). This isn't even the first time this has happened to me either.

This all reminds me of one of my first experiences with the G1 collectors wayy back, years ago, when I first started and someone DM'd me to haggle a random XYZ to half price and idgaf then either like sure this currency isn't even real, sent it, and was pinged for an auction for it not an hour later at triple what they paid.

Should've just bailed then tbh.

TL;DR: don't collect G1's ever and if you do just... do your own thing.

For the record i don't care about flipping at all that's just how dragon capitalism works its the being blocked (or pinged for a sale/auction after negotiating via thread/DMs) directly after that bothers me.

hatchery owner here. part of the reason most hatcheries don't have unique xyz pairs is that it's expensive asf to do projects for xyz pairs that make a tight, consistent range of babies (as opposed to slapping two purple dragons together and just hoping some of the xyz's come out not looking funky)... and then people complain when we charge even remotely fair prices. don't get me wrong, i think everybody knows if you triple gem gene a pair by yourself, you're never seeing that cost recuperated from selling that pair's hatchlings alone. that's just way too much to ask people to spend. but i've increasingly seen a big push to tell people no g2+ is ever worth more than like 20-30kt. :/ if you can't get your pairs to sell for more than that price - and i'm not talking about like 300kt for one kinda meh looking baby, i'm talking even 50kt which can be funded in less than a day of maxing the fairgrounds - then it's not worth it to invest in nice xyz pairs. better to stock up on two parents from kinda common but popular color combos that you can find on the ah

and obviously nobody is obligated to buy pricier hatchery dragons! literally nobody. i don't begrudge people who don't want to buy from me or my affiliates, whether it's because they don't have the funds, don't have the lair space, don't like our aesthetic, prefer g1, whatever. all cool in my books. but if you want there to be more nice, unique hatcheries, if you have a genuine interest in hatchery pairs, you need to encourage that by supporting hatchery owners!

(and this isn't directed at just anon because idk what they do or historically have done to support hatcheries, it's just because i see this complaint a lot where people are upset they can't find nice hatcheries that do the aesthetic they want and have professional looking pairs)

Frist nest from a new stock the pond pair on Flight Rising hatched today and all three of them are so pretty and matchy. One also has Multi-Gaze and I only have ever hatched a dragon with Multi-Gaze one other time. I want to keep them all but also I am running out of space and need gems for my other projects. I will probably wait till they are fully grown to decide weather I am keeping them or not. I would want to give them different genes at some point but they also look good with what they have now so if I do keep them they wont have to be another project.

Things I would love to see but Have My Doubts I ever will:

AH Food - Sort by food points price, because one mantis equals five brown river recluse in actual food units as just a single example. Unless I'm looking to buy something that's needed for a specific trade or brew recipe, all I care about is "what can I buy the cheapest to feed my ravening hordes". Not cheapest per stack, cheapest per food point.

Fix the f-ing hoard so it stops creating part-stacks of items and instead always keeps the existing stacks topped up before starting a new stack. Sure I can view it as overall totals but that doesn't stop the ex-database-programmer in me from knowing that underneath that 312 item stack is actually 98+97+16+99+2 instead of 99+99+99+15, and despairing over how many additional memory-eating records that uses up in a large enough database.

When I create an outfit, have an option to apply it to an applicable dragon in my lair and automagically dress them in any of the pieces I already have in my hoard, plus mark in the dressing room which items are pieces I have on other dragons, or don't have and need to acquire from AH/trades/etc.

100% agree on single colour scatterscrolls. I know the original reason was to make it harder to get doubles or triples, but at this point pretty much every colour has multiple double and triple breeders. I love my custom progen's primary-secondary and would HAPPILY spend many many gems to change her ugly tertiary to anything that works with her other two.

Vastly more lair space. Like, so much lair space. Potentially infinite hibernal lair space as in as long as I can scrape together the treasure I can keep buying more. I know there may be back-end problems with actually implementing that (see again: ex-database-programmer) but it'd be nice to never again hit the point of having no choice but to to decide between 'dragons I wish to keep' and 'new dragons I would like to have'.

Bestiary - ability to see what familiars I don't currently have other than by painstakingly going through all 1200+ records to see which are missing both the 'in hoard/vault' and 'currently bonding with a dragon' icons. Ability to see what familiars are associated with dragons in hibernal and not yet up to awakened (currently the bestiary filter lumps together lair and den).

When on the trading post page, have some sort of visual indicator about whether or not I have tickets for the current raffle (okay I have Less Doubt that we might eventually see something like that)

Have the tooltips for genes explicitly state their rarity as a word so I don't have to dig into not-up-to-date encyclopedia articles to know which genes match or beat each other rarity-wise. Also, fix the f-ing purposefully mismatched rarities of ripple-current and bar-daub on modern breeds."Oh but we did that on purpose and plan to leave it that way." Bullshit, you fixed it for ancient breeds, you've changed rarities on other modern-usable genes, fix this annoying stupidity.

Like what if a pair you nested had 5 babies? Doesn’t that ruin your plans more than receiving your pair back

...No, they get the extras. Is this deal really that confusing for people? To reiterate: this project is for one specific color combination. Literally any dragon that isn't that, isn't mine to keep. The breeder keeps them for their own profit so no, it wouldn't ruin my plans if they had a 5 egg nest.

I still feel like this shouldn’t ruin your plans. You knew your den/lair space was limited yet didn’t think to keep some extra spaces somewhere incase something like this happened? What if a nest had more eggs than you could take?

I did, that's the thing. I had everything planned so this pair wouldn't be an issue for at least two months. The allotted space I had was for another pair that the other breeder's been really understanding about. (Big thank you to them! I can't name you, but you're awesome!) As for why I didn't simply expand...

I guess I just don’t understand why you can’t expand your lair/den and/or den 2 dragons. 

I ran out of gem slots ages ago and my remaining "free" slots all require expensive items like genes or eggs. I've been spending my currency on gene projects that need to get done for this Halloween instead as that's more time sensitive. (Not that space is a problem anymore, thank you Undel!)

Not sure if losing this specific pair would've been worse though. It's a semi-rare color combo, yes, but I'm confident I could find more to breed down the line. It's the miscommunication (explained below) and messing up my plans that angered me more than the threat of losing them.

My only confusion is would you rather have had them go inactive with your dragons?

No, of course not, but he didn't tell me it was urgent nor did I know he'd have to stop playing. I found all that out after he denned my dragons. If he had just said that from the start, "Hey man, an emergency came up and I gotta stop playing for an indefinite amount of time," I'd be like "okay, I have no room but I'll work on it" and make room as quickly as possible, but, initially, he just said I needed to take my dragons back. When I said I didn't have room, he told me to take my time before getting angry & denning less than 24hrs later. I get now that he was just being polite, but that doesn't seem like the thing you should say in a crisis.

This just sounds like a cautionary tale to not embark on more than one breeding project at the same time if space is an issue.

Yes, well, with breeding projects taking weeks to months, sometimes even years (my record is nearly two years,) I don't have that luxury. Plus the issue was the other person bailing suddenly then being coy as to why it had to happen. It's never happened to me before so I've never had to waste spaces on emergency scenarios like this. Either way, it's happened and thanks to some lucky circumstances, I'm no longer in crisis myself. I still regret the way I handled things but 🤷 c'est le vie

As someone who host nests a lot, I probably wouldn’t accept this job as you described unless this pair was really likely to give out what you’re after. 2 stacks of food only lasts so long and depending on how likely it is to get what you’re after, someone could be breeding long after the dragons have eaten through those stores and now into what I’m personally having to pay for. Regardless of how many dragons I got from this, I don’t have the time to grind and level them. I can’t see this even braking even on my side in the end.

And that's totally okay. ❤️ I get that not everyone has time for exalting, but even if you were to sell them as fodder at 7g, that's anywhere from 7-35g per nest. I don't think I've ever seen anyone charge that much for a nest rental so there's profit to be had if you ever consider it.

As for the food situation: I know they don't last forever so I offered to buy more food stacks later down the line, they just needed to tell me when they need it. I try to be conservative with what I offer because I don't want to waste 5+ stacks on a miracle first timer or something like that.

DWF Advice

I’ve done the DWF and tbh I wouldn’t recommend it to most users. The people are great, the service is very generous, BUT. If your project is urgent to you, it’s a LONG wait to be picked up usually. Then you’ve put 50kt into a project that will cost way more than that. So you’re reliant on your person having the time, money, and lair space for your project. Plus they’re likely juggling multiple wishes.

That disclaimer they give that wishes could take ~6mo to be picked up and 1y+ on top of that to be bred is TRUE. That is not worst case scenario stuff, that’s the result of a person breeding for three correct genes, the correct eyes, and the proper breed for at least one dragon, maybe a pair, for only 50kt that didn’t go to them individually, but rather went to the DWF bank and will likely be allocated to the trickiest wishes. Meaning they’ve got to fund a whole breeding project mostly out of pocket, find all the right colored dragons themselves (albeit with more resources), hunt down nest rentals for a LOT of starter pairs, keep up with breeding cooldowns, find lair space, etc. Plus they have other wishes, and they probably still want to do personal projects and have fun on site. Plus they have lives. It adds up!

If money is your biggest “limiting factor” and you don’t mind wait time, you should do it - they finance most of the project. But if you want the dragon ASAP, start the project yourself and save up as you work. Imo, most problems with the DWF come from impatient people. If you know that’s you, eat the cost and do the project yourself. That way you can choose to make it a priority and pursue it aggressively instead of relying on a person who’s already juggling a lot for no benefit to themselves beyond the satisfaction of helping others (which is real! But your project likely won’t be their biggest FR priority the way it’s yours, if it is indeed yours).

Like I said, the people are very generous and I’m thankful for the breeder I got paired with who gave me my dream dragon for almost no money or effort on my part and lots of both on theirs. But I made my wish when I was very new and didn’t have much money nor know how quickly I could get money over the course of a project. By the time my wish got picked up, I realized I could already afford to do it myself. By the time it got finished, I realized I could have bred the right colors and gened the dragon myself in probably 1/3 of the wait time. I’m of course still very thankful to my breeder and expressed that profusely to them - I only mean to say, I should have considered more carefully how doable the project was myself.

So basically: the DWF people are VERY sweet and generous, but before you place a wish, think about how realistically you could do it yourself (with the understanding that you will likely make enough over the course of the project to afford all needed genes, even triple gem, and perhaps a breed scroll for non imps) and how important it is to have the dragon NOW. If you’re gonna want that dragon ASAP, the best person to do that is YOU. And if you do make a DWF wish anyway, understand that any impatience and frustration is on you - not your breeder and not the people running it, because they warned you.

"Locked behind a paywall" my siblings in christ, you could post publicly on their forums that you want to do a gem/treasure exchange (there are sites that isn't allowed on) and go buy it? You never have to spend a dollar on FR.

Let's talk about this for a sec, what they could've done- what other games do.

"VIP player only breeds" you can only buy or breed these dragons if you pay a subscription, and they get grayed out if you stop paying.

Gem mp items could be clan locked, making it impossible to resell them.

They could not allow gem/treasure trades.

Their breed Scrolls/Genes could be loot bag only.

They could be locked behind a timed event that you're likely to need to pay real world money to complete, and when you do finish the event- you only get the *chance* to get one. Also they're unbreedable.

These are all real things being done. I hate to pull the "you're being spoiled" card, but I really encourage you guys to go play Howrse for a few days and read why players with 15 year old accounts get banned. Interact with their community. See the messages in your inbox from the staff about lootbox events and how they want you to spend spend spend.

FR is so respectful of us. Please be nice to them. PLEASE support the game if you play. If you don't do that, at minimum don't give them a hard time for needing to create a form of revenue. There is no "Pay wall" id say money will expedite your access, but a week of Glimmer and Gloom and a forum post later and you'll have your dragon, that is yours. No caveats.

people saying FR staff have terrible communication is kind of starting to piss me off 😭 we were told ON SITE that sandsurges would be gem breeds. if you didn't read that, that's on you, not with devs failing to communicate the way this breed release would pan out. they quite literally posted an essay the other day just to reflect on what the refactor meant for them and the site. it's like the people saying FR staff are ableist for expecting people to read their news posts have never played an actually bad petsite with in their lives

👖: i played with the idea of the side thigh slit dress & it left a lot of open space oh her legs so i gave her long straps that connect to her shoes

🤍📿: her pearl jewellery is made more bold, making her look more sophisticated, i want her to be more decorated to give a more sense to the fact that she is the princess to a royal prince💅🏻

👸🏼: her head piece has been given more air for her head to breathe in & let her hair be more free, it also has the same patterns as her cape & gem from belt, it bonds the elements of the dress together

👗: overall her outfit is more strict, not so loose, and provides a better space to walk in

💁🏼‍♀️ : good hair was looked highly upon in viking ages, especially if it was long and healthy , thus enforcing the need to be more hygienic, cleaning and brushing it, so if it looked well and was long ,you would carry it with pride, i would not be surprised that this beauty standard was carried into Asgard’s culture , as u can see in the films , many asgardians maintain long hair, thus i want her to be more open with it, as a sign of good health (and healthy genes) + giving her braids to play more upon her nordic heritage
