First of all, this is just a really cute picture:

Second of all, I might give away my primary fandom with this one, but Agent Fischer observing the Jisbon rituals in the car was so fun. And Cho in the opening scene too. I love watching outside parties react to intricate rituals and the Jisbon rituals are elite. I absolutely adore watching them work together as equals, their dynamic is everything.

That moment when Jane pops up in the backseat of the car and startles the ladies was GOLDEN. I rewatched it so many times.

I also rewatched the opening scene a bunch because the banter is SO DAMN GOOD. Between everyone! These guys are especially skilled in the art of the reaction shot, their reactions are brilliant.

Man, the nostalgia of seeing the CBI badges. It's literally been a day or two since I watched the episode where they get shut down, and I'm already nostalgic. This is a powerful show.

Hehe, get it. It's got powers. I'm an idiot.

♡ Love Sea

There are many shows that I loved this year and many favorites among them, but this one is my very favorite. This is my show. I could not begin to tell you how excited I was when we learned that we'd be getting a new FortPeat project and that we were going to get to see them act together again. I love them both so much that I was always going to love this show because of them regardless of what it ended up being.

But what it ended up being was a really damn good show. I don't care what anyone says. It was so much more than just amazing chemistry and love scenes. I was writing about this show weekly. It had me talking about the acting and styling, keeping track of colors, doing scene breakdowns and character analysis, coming up with clown theories, the whole nine.

Love Sea is that girl. For me.

♡ I Saw You in My Dream

This show gave us the softest, sweetest love, mutual horniness, joyous sex, casual affection, supportive parents, and then without even trying, it also healed everyone's religious trauma in the kindest and gentlest way possible. It was wonderful and refreshing and healing to see queer characters have a warm, loving relationship with their faith and have it be something that gave them comfort and that they could share.

Seeing Ai just casually sitting in a cathedral to find some peace meant so much to me. I'm so happy and grateful that this show exists.

♡ Unknown

I want this show injected directly into my veins because, babes, everything about it is like heroin to me. It's not just a favorite of the year, it's a favorite of all time. It's quiet in this intense way that I really enjoy, which is a quality shared by a few other entries on this list. I love when a show can make me feel everything and god, did this make me feel everything.

I've already talked about how phenomenal the acting is in my favorite performances list but it's impossible to praise this show without also talking about the lighting and cinematography and colors and chemistry because it's all beautiful. It's a goddamn masterpiece.

♡ Knock Knock Boys

I genuinely love when a show takes me by surprise. I hadn't even fully decided whether I was going to watch it or not before it aired and I don't quite remember what convinced me to give it a chance, but I'm so glad that I did.

You look at it and think all you're gonna get from it is a fun silly time. And you do get a fun silly time! Then you go a little deeper and you realize what you actually have is a series about learning to communicate within relationships and outside of them, making peace with yourself, navigating love and sex, and figuring out what you really want in life, all tied up in this giant sparkly sex positive bow. It's an absolute gem.

♡ We Are

We Are is the epitome of what I like to call a cotton candy show: it's sweet, fluffy, and fun. There aren't really any stakes, there's not a whole lot going on. It's just a little treat there to give you a good time.

And boy howdy did it air when I needed it most. I had a very, very rough summer and every episode of this show felt like I was getting a hug. It was so cozy and comforting. It was a love letter to friendship and it has my entire heart.

♡ Our Youth

At the time of writing this series still has three episodes left before it ends and even though a lot can go wrong in three episodes, I'm still confident in saying that this is one of my favorite shows of the year. In fact, this may be my favorite Japanese BL. Full stop.

There is just something so...entrancing about it. That quiet intensity I mentioned earlier. I love how it uses silence and light, I love that every piece of dialogue feels like it weighs a thousand pounds, I especially love what Kamimura Kenshin has done and continues to with his portrayal of Haruki. I just love everything about this drama. Everything.

♡ Two Worlds

I was so damn excited for this show from the moment I first saw the pilot. It was one of my most anticipated dramas of the year and not only is it my favorite MaxNat project to date, it was my first time ever writing about colors!

The killer chemistry and truly beautiful love scenes were all but a given and the fantasy element was a trip, but writing about the colors was what really made this for me. The sleeper color demon in my brain (which sneaks in when you attend @respectthepetty Colors College) had me looking at the stitching on clothing and the exact shades used in any given plaid pattern to try and make sense of the random and ever-changing use of colors in this show and I had the time of my life doing it.

♡ Love for Love's Sake

We had this show for a grand total of TWO WEEKS. Isn't that insane?Just two weeks and it gave us these beautiful characters who tore us all open in the best way and left us gasping for air and infinitely glad that this show was made and that we got to watch it. That was my experience, at least.

To me this is a show about learning to heal and to love yourself through loving somebody else. There are as many interpretations of it as there are people who watched it--as it should be--and mine ultimately comes down to this: Myung Ha's best friend loved him so much and wanted so dearly for him to be happy that he created a reality where Myung Ha got the love and sense of belonging that he always deserved, and it was beautiful.

♡ Wandee Goodday

What's even better than being blessed with the gift that is bunny boy Great Sapol? Sex positivity! Condoms! Advocating for sexual health! The bunny boy being the greenest flag in all the land! Ace rep! Ace rep with a happy ending! BL Mother of the Year Cher! The first GMMTV wedding since same sex marriage was legalized in Thailand! Horny gym massages! Therapy! Title Kirati finally being a good boy in a BL!

And on and on and on! In my heart and in my soul, I'm a good time girl and this show was SUCH a good time. It was a delightful little treat from beginning to end.

♡ The Loyal Pin

You know a show is special when just hearing the intro music makes you feel happy and comforted and giddy with anticipation. This is a beautiful show. It feels like the dessert table at a fancy, expensive wedding.

Everything is well done. Everything. The acting and the story are incredible, the cinematography is stunning, the styling is gorgeous, the OST fucks. It's just so damn good from top to bottom that it's become my favorite GL ever. I love it dearly.

♡ My Stand-In

Characters like Ming who are the human embodiment of lead paint and the stories they feature in aren't for everyone, but they sure are for me. Especially when those stories are led by great actors like Up and Poom who can have me in my feelings with the tiniest shift in their expressions.

They had me so in my feelings, in fact, that I arranged my watch schedule so I would always have a fluffy show to decompress with after every episode. It was that intense and if I loved it as much as I did, it was became Up and Poom were that good. I love a sweet love story but I also love a story about people who are DEEPLY deranged about each other.

♡ The On1y One

Even though I did not watch the finale of this show and will not watch it until such time as a second season has been announced, filmed, and is ready to premiere, it was still one of my favorites of the year. I just can't be mad at it.

It had everything that I love. Quiet intensity and great acting and dialogue and EXPRESSIONS and Benjamin Tsang's face and yearning and tiny little moments that live in my mind rent-free. I just wish it was complete because I love these characters so much and want to see them happy.

♡ Century of Love

I was raised on telenovelas. I've been watching them my whole life. So of course I'm always going to have a soft spot for BLs that scratch that lakorn/telenovela itch in my brain and that's exactly what this show did!

It gave us soulmates! Reincarnation! The red string of fate! Magic rocks! Wet dreams after a 124 year dry spell! Questionable CGI! Goddess-approved yaoi! And holding all of it together was Daou and Offroad's phenomenal chemistry. I fucking love this show!

♡ 4 Minutes

There are few things I love more in this BL watching life than letting Dr. Sammon take me on a wild ride, and boy was this a WILD FUCKING RIDE. I didn't come up with a single theory or do anything but cheer Tonkla on the entire time it was airing, I just experienced it.

Every episode was a feast for the eyes, whether it was the acting or the cinematography or the music or, as was usually the case, a stunning combination of all those things. We had to wait so long for this one and even though I wish it was longer, it was entirely worth the wait.

♡ See Your Love

Another one that has yet to finish airing but that's so lovely in every way that it has already found itself among the ranks of my favorite Taiwanese BLs ever. No surprise considering the team that made it also made another one of my faves.

And it really is lovely, unhinged assassination attempts and all. The love between the mains is a phenomenal combination of healing and horny and the story gives its characters--especially its deaf protagonist--so much humanity and treats them with care and respect. Not to mention that it features some of the best BL parents I've ever seen.

♡ High School Frenemy

When I tell you I was so prepared for this to be a series that I ended up dropping after a few weeks. The only reason I even watched it initially was for Mark Pakin and then something happened and I ended up liveblogging all sixteen episodes and loving it so incandescently that it became one of my favorite shows of the year.

And it was alllll because of Sky and Nani and that phenomenal chemistry that came out of nowhere and hit me--and all of us--with a steel chair. Watching Saint and Shin say the most UNHINGED ROMANTIC SHIT TO EACH OTHER was truly one of the highlights of my year. The character writing was great, the acting was great, the friendships were top tier. Truly the biggest surprise of 2024.

If the "more than friends less than lovers" shirt was a show, it would be this show.

♡ Sugar Dog Life

What a darling little treat of a show. It's so cozy and comfy and sweet. I'm always going to be a sucker for "food as a love language" shows and I enjoyed watching these two fall in love over meals so much.

As an aside, I spent almost the entire time slightly tormented because I couldn't figure out who Tanaka Koki reminded me of but I'm very happy to say that I figured it out: Sea Dechchart.

♡ Jack and Joker

For me, it's impossible not to love something that was so clearly made with all the passion, joy, and love in the world and that is exactly the energy that Yin and War brought to this project and I adored it.

This show made me feel the entire spectrum of human emotion every single week. I was never not excited for the next episode, even when it made me sad. It was fun and chaotic and beautiful to look at and I'm so happy that it exists.

♡ First Note of Love

This series is just...so gentle. Even though loss is a central theme in the story, it's never portrayed in a looming, haunting way. Matt's presence is always felt but in a way that's very human and beautiful.

At its core, this story is about all the ways love and grief are intertwined and giving yourself a second chance and letting love back in and allowing yourself to feel and I love it so dearly. So dearly.

♡ Dead Friend Forever

This is the show that finally got me to talk on my blog. I had such a great time being a clown and coming up with theories and reading other people's theories and spending entirely too much time looking at the minute details of that creepy damn mask.

It was a wild ride from start to finish and I enjoyed every minute of it. And it gave me TaBarcode, which was a gift I will cherish always even if thinking about them makes me want to listen to Rollin' in the Deep by Adele.

If you don’t have your desire right now in this very moment as your reading this then when will you have it? 

After you affirmed another 10 times?

After you’ve visualised that scene one more time?

After you read just one more tumblr Loa post?

After you see it in the 3d? But the whole point of manifesting is to know that you have it WITHOUT proof from the 3d right? It listens to YOU. Not the other way around. So there’s no need to worry anymore or force anything because it has to be reflected. It has to be reflected. Because thats the law. A LAW.

Just try taking a deep breath and just allowing yourself to have what you want no matter what. No matter if you feel sad, angry, anxious, or your self concept is down in the dumps. No matter if you haven’t thought about what it is you want all day or all week. No matter if the 3d is showing you opposing circumstances or if you’re constantly doubting.

Just breathe. Relax your shoulders. Practice having some faith in yourself and your incredible power. Remind yourself that its still yours, right now in this moment, no matter what. When you think there’s another thing you have to do first, like check tumblr to make sure you’re “manifesting right” or “feel it real” just stop and breathe. You already did everything you need to. You’ve done more than enough lovely💗 You are the one in control, allow yourself to give it to yourself. Whatever it is you want.

You’ve been manifesting your whole life, you’re doing it right now as you read this too. You’ve never stopped. And you’ve always done it perfectly, there’s nothing to do. There’s never been anything to do as you’ve been manifesting your whole life, except decide what it is you want. It’s like breathing, you can’t mess it up and you do it naturally without even trying. Go have some fun, call a friend, take a walk, grab a coffee, watch your favourite show, eat a sweet treat! You deserve it! You’re in control always, no matter what. You can “mess up” a million times or spiral as much as you want, just remember you’ve already done it. You’ve already done it, now go have fun!

I’m aware that this mindset may not be for everyone but if it resonates then i hope i could be helpful! Go take a break off of Loa tumblr, YouTube, twitter, whatever. You had it the moment you wanted it. The moment you first affirmed for it, or did your technique of choice the first time. Whenever you decided first, you had it. Have some faith in your power, you are limitless. Go prove it to yourself and relax x

On one hand, Ive been saying ever since Kuro Neko that Marinette has a god and victim complex and thinks reality starts and ends with her which constantly leads to people ending up much worse for it (Adrichat in particular) and nothing significant getting fucking done because of how irrelevant Marinette herself is

So sure, you can bet your ass i feel validated by the "Ladybug will decide for the world what the truth is" development and how much worse everything is clearly about to get. In that sense, I'll sure have the time of my life now lol

But on the other hand, nah, I still never wanted this. I'll have my fun with it now that I'm proven right because of how awful the emotional journey was for me watching all this unfold. I wasn't even surprised by Kwamis Choice or the season 5 finale, that was imo obvious ever since season 4. At this point, I'll just enjoy it as a salty bitch. Fuck it, I earned that when I called these awful plot resolutions years ago and I only get further validated for what I "salted" on Marinette.

Or, wait. Is it even SALT when I continue to be proven right over and over again? Sounds like I'm reading it RIGHT while Marinette fans still go on disregarding 90% of the show and then call themselves FANS Lol

What a time for the fandom, when describing what happens in canon counts as salt. Every single time "non-salty" people describe the actual, canon episodes, they have to accompany it with constant refrains of “but Marinette is really stressed”, “but Marinette is in a really difficult spot”, “but Marinette isn’t the only one doing these things”, “but Marinette is too young to be in this situation” or my beloathed “but Marinette has good intentions”.

That's why I've decided to embrace the salt.

Here's a really salty take: if Marinette is so incapable of answering for her actions, then maybe she shouldn’t be taking on so many responsibilities to begin with. According to all these defenses of Marinette, these supposed good faith takes on her behavior, she is too incompetent or emotionally compromised to be expected to act in a moral way, too young to make sound decisions about anything, too paranoid or blinded by her own sense of moral superiority to take perspectives other than her own into account and too weak mentally to handle her boyfriend having emotional needs.

If Marinette really is this incompetent and incapable, maybe she shouldn’t be having everyone else lie to Adrien based on her judgment call. If she really is so mentally weak that she can’t handle the grieving and changing of his world view that her boyfriend needs to go through in order to live his life to the fullest (or as fullest as a remote control robot can get), maybe she should just leave that to the other people in the know. Kagami wants to tell Adrien the truth, let her. And let her deal with the aftermath, too. Meanwhile Marinette can just skip off to be worshiped by her parents, friends and ex boyfriend, now that he’s back in town.

Yeah, Marinette would be the most selfish girlfriend ever for just dumping Adrien until he stops being sad, but she’s being one regardless. The only thing different is that then Adrien would know and maybe he’d reconsider if such a one-sided relationship where he’s expected to give all the support while receiving none in return is what he really wants and needs. Maybe Adrien should know, not only what he is and who his dad really was, but who his girlfriend really is: someone too weak to be his partner not only for the better, but also the worse.

2024 Spring Anime

Kaiju No. 8 This series started the same time as SpyxFamily and I've been waiting years for it to be animated. It's a series I was instantly hooked on. The animations in the teasers were incredibly sus but I'm glad to see it's pulled together. This is a must watch for this season. Noteworthy On-going Shows: Delicious in Dungeon - Episodes 13-24 A Character based comedic fantasy that honestly has me hooked. New Seasons:

Demon Slayer - Hashira Training Arc I can't believe we're already here. I think this will be one of the last 2 or 3 seasons of the show. This is one I'm not sure what to expect in terms of story but I'm looking forward to it regardless.

That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime - Season 3 One of the Og's is back baby. This is one of my all time favourite shows, one of the original fantasy/isekai series. This series gets better and better and I'm so hooked to each character. 100% biased opinion but if you haven't seen this, go check it out.

My Hero Academia - Season 7 This is one that I haven't caught up on the anime for so I'm not 100% where we are but I'm pretty sure it's about to get real dark. I think lots of people have put this show on the backburner or have dropped it entirely. But I really have to say we're starting to head into some of the peak of the series. It gets much darker and more serious and starts to shift from the original shonen high school style.

Additional New Seasons: Mushoku Tensei - Season 2 Cour 2 I won't lie, this arc honestly doesn't look very appealing to me. That said, I have faith in the writers and will be watching and updating if it picks up. Both of these shows from 2008 coming back were not on my bucket list but here we are: Spice and Wolf - Looks to be a re-make of the original series Black Butler - Public School Arc - New continuation of the og series Also: The Misfit of Demon King Academy II - Part 2 The Irregular at Magic High School - Season 3 Laid-Back Camp - Season 3 New Noteworthy Shows:

Wind Breaker A new series about a delinquent who moves to a school where it's all about being the strongest and beating each other up. Honestly it reminds me a little of Food wars but if it was actually about fighting instead of food lol. The animations look stellar, I'm actually pretty excited to check this one out. Mission:Yozakura Family A newer shonen jump series about a kid who tries to integrate with a mismatched family of spies. Looks like a lot of fun and has a similar vibe to some old school SJ series.

Go! Go! Loser Ranger Why does this look so good. This series genuinely looks so cool, the animation look out of this world and the story looks killer. From what I can gather it's a guy who always plays the villain and is sick of his role. The story shows the heroes as villains and gives me a bit of Invincible vibes. (This is a Disney+ exclusive) The Fable I've heard that this is one of the most legendary comedies. I know there's a few live actions for it on Netflix but I haven't had a chance to check it out. I feel like the trailers don't seem to get anything across so this'll be one I'll follow up on.

Going through the extra shows is now the bane of my existence. I want to go back to before all the isekai light novels were being animated. After doing this I feel defeated that some of these look half-decent. Whisper Me a Love Song Wholesome girl's love series about figuring out what kind of love they feel for each other: 3 Episodes The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio 2 girls who's offline personalities are total opposites, their rivalry in a brutal industry. Looks like it could be a fun slice of life series: 3 Episodes Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night Looks like a really well done series about a group of girls forming an anonymous idol group: 3 Episodes

I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability The animations actually look amazing from the trailer and this series could be cute: 1 Episode An Archdemon's Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride I think this might be a guilty pleasure show. I like the idea of the awkward romance between these two. Likely wouldn't reccommend this for a normal watcher: 1 Episode Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again Animations and concept look fun: 1 Episode Notable OVA's: Code Geass: Roze of the Recapture A prequel to the original series. The animation looks just like the OG and I'm so stoked that this is coming out.

HEADCANON 2

Elliot's group of friends consisted of three boys from his own year (third) and two from fifth year. They met in Muggle Studies class; in fact, they were the only ones from their year who attended that class. Elliot was influenced by his fifth-year friends to create a group to showcase the magical world.

When Elliot was with his three friends in their dormitory, he felt confident enough to fill his part of the room with things related to muggles. He even managed to repair a Walkman and used it to listen to muggle music.

During a Quidditch match, Elliot lost a tooth that would take a long time to grow back. He thought they would make fun of him, and they were about to, until his fifth-year friends stepped in and encouraged everyone to refer to him as "Everest," a reminder of the nickname he earned after winning a game.

His friends always stood by Elliot, even if there were sometimes disagreements between them.

HEADCANON 3

His fifth-year classmates would take Elliott to spend time with sick muggles, specifically in a muggle hospital. At first, he didn’t know how to communicate or help until a little girl approached him and called him Rapunzel because of his blonde and somewhat long hair. That's when Elliott starts interacting with the sick muggles appropriately, ironically putting on magic shows to entertain some of them. The death of many of those he had gotten to know led him to make the decision to expose the magical world.

(Elliott would cut his hair to give it to a muggle with cancer, who, very grateful, gave him a hug. Sadly, the next day, she passed away).

These headcanons came up while watching the fourth year at Hogwarts for the second time. I also read that many witches and wizards started doing their own thing, exposing magic to muggles regardless of how stupid it was. They associated it with the NOTME group, even though they probably hadn’t done anything like that. This is backed up by the fact that Victor Gridley used fireworks to attract Elliott, making him think it was his group, NOTME. In other words, Victor Gridley was tarnishing the name of the NOTME group out of revenge.

At first, I thought it was really stupid for Elliott to reveal who he was, but after watching it again, I realized he was very honest with everyone and pacifist. While the game gives us the option to fight against the NOTME group, to keep it from being boring, I firmly believe there wasn’t really a fight—just wizards throwing spells at the NOTME group. As I mentioned before, Victor Gridley was posing as NOTME out of revenge because they stole his key.

Although Elliott is manipulative with Daniel, I think it’s because he wants to "protect" him? I’m not sure, but in his own way, he does protect him. I think he behaves this way because he was influenced by the somewhat aggressive behavior of his fifth-year group of friends.

About Phee

Well, there seem to be a lot of opinions on Phee and her relationship with Tech specifically. Most, from what I’ve seen, like her as a character and as a love-interest for Tech, while others never warmed up to her and the ship/their interactions really rub them the wrong way.

Having read a few posts, I went back to watch every episode featuring Phee, plus a few others, paying closer attention to her specifically.

These are just my personal observations and interpretations, and you may disagree. We all read people differently; otherwise, we would never misinterpret each other.

Now, starting with "Spoils of War":

Honestly, Phee doesn’t make the best first impression. But let’s take a closer look. At first she seems interested in the Batch, no animosity, but then Hunter is clearly displeased that Cid told Phee about them. Cid tries to reassure the Batch, tells them that Phee is the most trustworthy pirate she knows, and Echo is very dismissive. It’s only then that Phee starts being more disrespectful, hitting back by making fun of them not looking alike despite being clones and all. She’s only briefly sweet to Tech, before he starts talking about the phenotypical eye colour of clones and she interrupts him and leaves...not the first time it happened to him, but still. Not cool Phee.

Regardless, despite Phee’s attitude, Hunter and Echo didn’t exactly put their best feet forward here and arguably were the first to be impolite. Both sides did pretty poorly here, but I do admit that upon first watching in January, I didn’t really like Phee much. I didn’t hate her or anything, but I wasn’t endeared.

Moving on to "Entombed":

Clearly some time has passed, as Tech must have heard some of Phee’s stories several times to be able to comment on how she changes them up. While she isn’t close to the Batch, they seem at least casually acquainted at this point.

As a note to Phee and Tech’s interaction in the cantina; when he dismisses the items Omega found, Phee walks up to check them out, apparently touching his chin as she says “Easy, quick draw.”, and he has doesn’t really react to it. He’s probably used to his brothers doing anything from placing a hand on his shoulder to shoving/punching him, but I feel it’s important to note that he doesn’t seem at all visibly uncomfortable, even though it’s Phee, who he barely knows at this point. He just carries on as usual and tells her she’s holding a broken regulator, still certain there is nothing useful among the various objects.

The episode shows her working with the Batch for the first time, Omega is by far the most enthusiastic and Phee encourages her whenever possible. She really seems to like the girl and maybe she also figured that if she wants to get on the Batch’s good side, Omega is kind of the key.

In the tomb it is clear the Batch, especially Hunter, don’t exactly trust Phee completely or at least doubt her expertise. Given all the various things that don’t go smoothly, and them not knowing her well, all too understandable.

Hunter accuses her of trapping them early on, and once inside Tech mentions that he’s analysed the minerals of the stone slabs, finishing with: “Phee may be onto something,” which she hears, proving that they didn’t believe her.

So, Phee knows they don’t really have faith in her and acts especially confident and nonchalant, whenever confronted by the others or hears remarks. However, instead of reassuring, she often comes across as dismissive towards their concerns, much to Hunter’s annoyance.

She’s also quick to jibes back, and all these just seem like a natural character flaws, especially for someone, who usually works alone and deals with pirates/smuggles/black marketers, where keeping up appearances certainly matters. In this episode though, it’s actually Tech who gets the last jab. “This puts us at 0 for 2 in treasure hunting even with a professional.” (seriously, the tone he uses for “professional”).

Still, she also watched out for them; she warns Wrecker about the collapsing mountainside, when they first uncover the entry and later she pushes him out of the way of more falling rocks, after aligning the wrong symbols. In the spinning tunnel she notices Hunter is in danger and immediately runs to his aid, even before he falls, making it just in time to grab the grappling hook before it can slip off.

When the group is separated, she also only pushes onwards after Tech reassures them that he can navigate the side tunnels and rendezvous with them later. Later, upon finding the Heart of the Mountain and accidently activating the walker, she’s reluctant to put the crystal back at first, but is quickly convinced to put it back.

Personally, I liked Phee better after this episode, but hadn’t completely warmed up.

Next we see her in "Pabu":

Once again it must have been some time, since Hunter let’s Omega sit by Phee’s side during the negotiations, and Phee trusts him (and the others) with her life. She doesn’t move, seems completely calm as Hunter throws his knife and saves her.

While we haven’t seen it, this shows that they’ve worked together a few times since “Entombed” and her relationship with the Batch has only improved. She feels more like a part of the team in the opening, rather than someone who just tagged along.

And she’s started to really care for them.

She’s the one noting that Omega needs friends her age, and perhaps shouldn’t live the life of a soldier/merc. When hearing about them breaking ties with Cid and not having a plan, it only takes her seconds to invite them to her secret “home away from home.”

Here we also have Tech’s first actual reaction to her casual flirting, looking caught off guard when she calls him “brown eyes” and gently taps his shoulder...no reaction a moment earlier, when she was just touching his shoulder, though. Either Tech has realized she’s legit hitting on him, or he’s started developing feelings towards her as well (whether he’s realized it or not), so her flirting hits differently. Maybe both.

Btw, on the island, Phee explains that many of the artefacts she finds belong to the cultures of the displaced people seeking refuge on Pabu. This, aside from making her motivations more noble, is something I find interesting due to certain similarities to the second episode of the season. There Tech helped restore the datacore and Romar explained its cultural value, how his people existed before the war, which was something new for Tech to consider. And here again, he talks about how the “jade” tree has little monetary value, before Phee notes that treasure and value can mean many things. This appreciation for culture and history could be something to bond over.

Still, in “Entombed” Phee clearly wanted to sell the Heart of the Mountain, though part of me is wondering if some of that money would have gone to Pabu, given all this new information. But that’s just speculation.

Now this is the episode we get some actual flirting. She teases him, but as we all know, Tech can be pretty sassy himself, especially towards his siblings and I mentioned his jibe at her in “Entombed”. Also, he’s the only one looking after her, when she separates from the group to put the artefact away (with a subtle smile on his lips before following the others) and at the end of the episode he gives her two real, genuine smiles, after agreeing with Hunter to stay a little longer on Pabu, and her teasing him once more (Tech: “I had the same idea.” Phee: “Did you now?” Tech: *smiles at her*).

Whether this is actual romantic interest on his part or not, is up to debate, but it shows that he likes her, enjoys her company (he even follows her around earlier in that last scene) and is comfortable being around her.

Earlier at dinner they also sat next to each other, clinked “glasses”, until the sun set. She invites Tech to join her as she waits for the lights to turn on across the island, but when he doesn’t see what she’s talking about, he immediately turns back to his datapad. Now, all she does is ask him to wait, while simply touching his arm, because Phee really doesn’t want him to miss it. No eye-rolling or annoyance, which we’ve seen from other characters, even her, back when she didn’t know the Batch...but now she does know them better, and she is a lot gentler and more patient.

And Tech does enjoy the view, before the two turn to each other and smile.

"The Summit"

This is the very first time in the entire show that Tech is really visibly uncomfortable, speaking with someone.  

We’ve never seen him like this before and it’s a safe bet neither has Phee. Considering how comfortable he was around her in “Pabu”, how vocal he usually his with his opinions and his own tendency to jibe (including at her), she might have been confused by this sudden shift in demeanour. Yes, he’s often occupied with his datapad, but here he’s so focused, as if to avoid the conversation, without actively preventing/ending it.

When approaching him, Phee could have easily interpreted his behaviour as the result of him just feeling guilty for not telling her or something along those lines. Which isn’t necessarily wrong. Given his reaction upon spotting her, Tech probably recognized she was upset, had a pretty good idea why and simply didn’t know how to handle such a delicate situation, perhaps feeling a bit overwhelmed as well. After all, he was already focused on the mission at that point.

She tries to initiate a conversation, pausing to give him the opportunity to respond, smiling encouragingly. When he asks her if he should have briefed her, she counters with “...when two friends are talking, it’s called a conversation”.

Now, I’ve seen people get upset with this, like she’s talking down to him, but I don’t think that is happening here. He used the term “briefing”, he’s talking like they’re in the military and it’s very formal, even for him. But she’s very deliberate with her choice of words. I think she wanted to remind him that they have a closer relationship now, something more personal/casual; they are friends, they can open up to each other. And she pauses again to give him a chance to think and respond.

When he gives none, she smiles and tells him not to run off with any other pirates, which is very much in line with the usual teasing between them. Remember, the sass goes both ways. And another hint to him that she has a thing for him.

One he doesn’t seem to pick up on, or again, his mind is already too preoccupied with the mission he’s about to go on. This seemingly half-hearted reaction is when Phee gets a bit frustrated.

I think she understands him, but is also a little hurt.  And the thing is, as far as we know she never had a heart-to-heart with Tech like Omega did in “The Crossing”. Omega thought he didn’t care about their family falling apart, asking why he didn’t act like it mattered to him, and they had a short but very important conversation.

If Phee never had that with Tech, and he usually appears confident and comfortable around her, it’s not surprising she accidentally overstepped his boundaries, when she felt frustrated. I mean who hasn’t done or said something stupid, when feeling hurt/upset and later thought: “Damn, could have handled that better.”

And I’ve been in Tech’s position, so I get it when some say watching her push his datapad down made them uncomfortable by proxy, that Phee’s actions seemed abrasive. But this scene to me felt realistic, especially since they are still getting to know each other and figuring things out between them. Mistakes are going to be made by both, what matters is how they are handled.

And here, after pushing down his pad, Phee watches him shift his googles, tense, his shoulders go up, he’s unable to respond... and within seconds Phee relents, giving him space again. She saw how she made things worse and tried to fix it. Her expression softens, she smiles again and tells him, quite affectionately, she’ll see him around, leaving without further pushing for a reply.

Tech relaxes as he looks after her, and then looks thoughtful, as if he’s trying to find the right words and probably has a thousand other thoughts... but she’s gone they need to go, so he gets into the Marauder.

He still likes Phee, it was just this very specific situation at the time that made him so uncomfortable. He didn’t know how to handle it, and she was trying to find out what was going on and pushed too hard.

I’ve seen people say that she’s trying to change him, but I really don’t see that, certainly no more than his family (Tech interactions with Omega this season especially). She wants them to get to know each other better, and someone has to do the first step to make that happen. Phee’s just treating him like a person, an adult, but still adjusts as she gets to know him better.

As of now it feels the romantic interest is mostly one sided. Now, I still like to see an eventual Tech/Phee, because I can really see it happening, but right now, Tech deals with a lot of things, from adjusting to this new life to trying to save Crosshair, despite everything that happened between the Batch and their somewhat estranged brother.

Considering his reactions in “Pabu” and “The Summit”, I think Tech is now aware of Phee’s flirtations being serious, but doesn’t know how to approach/deal with it, and again has a lot of other things going on in his life.

If Tech is still alive and has a chance to settle down, I do think they can and will eventually be romantically involved. “Pabu” has shown that he enjoys her company, likes her as a person and since it has taken him this long to realize that she’s interested in him, it might take him time to realize his own developing feelings, especially since this is likely all new territory for him.

Here to him hopefully being alive, so we can see how these two develop further.

I haven't watched the barbie movie and don't really plan to, I just have a problem with some arguments people have been making in its defense, as they are weak arguments regardless of what piece of media they're defending. specifically it's the "this is just feminism 101 for kids, it doesn't have to be a whole manifesto!" type of dismissive arguments.

first of all, if a movie is marketed as feminist and the fanbase praises it for its feminism, people who go see it will have certain expectations based on their own idea of feminism, since feminism is an umbrella term for different ideologies whose common trait is that they want rights for women. who counts as a woman, what specific rights they should have and how we should get them are all points of contention, without even getting into intersecrionality just yet. (very broad generalization, also some leftist feminists disagree with the 'rights' framing) there's only so many grains of sslt you can take, before you decide this is just too far away from what it was presented as and clearly, many women feel this way about the movie.

second of all, regardless of how a piece of media is marketed, it is always fair game for critism, whether that be from a feminist perspective, an anti-racism perspective, a leftist perspective or whatever else you can come up with. to demand that people simply not bring up these critiques because it's ruining people's fun or it's not that serious (but still serious enough that you call people misogynists for criticizing it?) is blatantly reactionary. it's the same thing angry geek boys do when you point out their funny little sci-fi and fantasy shows have weirdly few POC in them. you can say a criticism is in bad faith or based on a misreading of the text (I've seen this about the gynecologist scene, for example), sure, but what I'm seeing more commonly is just a total dismissal of these critiques and perspectives, as if the movie simply isn't subject to it for whatever reason.

expounding upon this, the "feminism 101" part of the argument is similarly reactionary. to reiterate what i said in my last reblog about this, the way people talk about this movie gives me the impression that it's way more suited to the ~2012-2014 pre-gamergate era of tumblr feminism, when people said stuff like "eyeliner so sharp it could kill a man" and feminist criticism was treated as more of a checklist of good and bad tropes. we're almost a decade past that era, with many events that changed the political and pop cultural landscape in the meantime, so what was passable back then might not be such now. we've talked extensively about intersecrionality, issues of race have been brought up time and time again, especially in light of the BLM movement and anti-Asian racism in the COVID era, queer issues have also been gaining more and more traction, etc etc, I can't and won't recap the last decade of political development. my point is, if you're a feminist in 2023 (or any other type of left-leaning politically active individual, but the barbie discourse is about feminism, so that's what I'm talking about specifically) you cannot simply ignore these issues and say multiply marginalized women will have their time, but they need to wait for the privileged women to go first. actually, it was always unacceptable to demand marginalized women support more privileged women while getting nothing in return, but it's even more obvious and ignorant in the current era, after we've been trying to make people understand intersecrionality for years.

it's also insidious how the implication is that feminism needs to be dumbed down for kids (a dubious claim in the first place) and for some reason, that dumbing down involves flattening everything to being about the most privileged women possible. why shouldn't young privileged girls learn about the issues that face their less privileged peers face? why should girls of marginalized groups have to sit and listen about the issues facing their privileged peers, but never being given the tools to discuss their own issues? whom does this dynamic serve exactly and why is it not only acceptable to continue to exist, but it also important to so vehemently defend?

I'm not trying to tell people not to like the barbie movie, that's really not what I care about. I'm saying the types of arguments being made reveal a failure of intersectionality and a dismissal of multiply marginalized women's issues, coupled with a self-centeredness which should be unacceptable to any serious feminist. stop making excuses for a hollywood blockbuster funded by a multi-billion(!!) dollar toy company and start giving a shit about the women in need right in front of you!

OK this one wont be super long bc ill be accompanying it with doodles but, u know the drill, under read more so i dont stretch people’s dashboards out

im gonna start with rinne i think he is VERY enthusiastic. he’s so happy to be there man. like he’s usually loud and kind of obnoxious regardless but this brings it out even more, most fans eat it up bc thats just his persona now, right. if any older fans show up he gets a bit softer/quieter to accommodate for them because he trusts them. 

if he notices fans being too shy/awkward he’ll try his best to hype them up and make them feel welcome i.e everybody be nice to this fan or i’ll blow this whole place up! but at the same time it’s like the second he sniffs out that they’re nervous he becomes a bit more pushy (WELL-MEANING OFC) AND IT CAN GET TO BE ALMOST SCARY… HE WILL EITHER GET SOFT AND UNDERSTANDING OR HE WILL EXPLODE ON U AND TRY TO MAKE U EXCITED WITH HIM THERES NO IN-BETWEEN… he will point out that ur nervous and ask u why that is. maybe poke a little bit of fun. obviously not enough to make you cry or whatever but enough for you to shake a little bit, so that after you leave you can look back at the pictures and memories like damn im actually glad rinne amagi helped me out of my shell

hes like an apex predator he can sense fear but instead of k wording you he forces you to do peace signs with him in photos

niki like always is super friendly and welcoming. he tries his best to make fans have fun! he isn’t nearly as pushy as rinne and doesn’t really pry. he makes small talk and if he thinks you smell nice he Will point it out! he will compliment and laugh a lot and overall be very silly. 80% of any event he’s playing footsie with rinne under the table and occasionally during fan meets they’ll start play bickering both for The Bit and also because they cant go too long without doing it it sustains them. 

one concerning thing about niki is that regardless of the circumstances he will always ALWAYS accept food, even though he is not supposed to. he sneaks off to eat snacks to prevent hunger pangs and if any fan catches him while offering food he will most assuredly be like oh hell ya, which is why the other guys are constantly on the look-out for him. while almost all fans do it in good faith i can imagine he’s gotten sick from at least one instance of this happening but he never learns because he cannot for the life of him turn down stuff he can eat. kohaku and rinne literally always have an eye on him to make sure his breaks stay short and to haul his ass back to the table 

himeru is perfect. like as a meet and greet idol he is exemplary. it’s almost scary. he gives the perfect amount of small talk, compliments you just enough, smiles the whole time. holds your hand for enough time, brushes his hair behind his ear acting all handsome, laughs at anything and everything that might be a joke….it’s like he has a mental checklist for every encounter. he studies this shit every night before an event so he has it down to a T. he makes meeting the others feel like youre talking to the teletubbies 

like rinne he senses fear and while he doesnt push like rinne does it’s almost like. he’s smug about it. he knows he’s that good! HE’S SO RADIANT YOU CAN’T LOOK AT HIM FOR TOO LONG…

ok lastly kohaku! kohaku i feel like would definitely try his best to copy himeru. he thinks the other two are not good examples, so partly himeru’s trying to show off because he knows kohaku is watching. being good friends with aira also has him practicing this a lot with him, too. but on his own kohakuchan is good at talking to people, slightly less good at maintaining eye contact or handshakes but he’s working on it! you can tell he’s new to it but he’s trying his best so it makes it all the more endearing. 

the other three point it out a lot when they think he or the fans can’t hear. not in a malicious way theyre just happy to see kohaku’s having fun. his encounters definitely feel a little more rushed but not because he necessarily wants it to be over you can tell hes just a bit more nervous to be 1 on 1. sometimes the other guys do something stupid in the sidelines so he can get angry and have him let loose. anyways Be nice to him

Hi okay SO. I have been putting off making an introduction post because I'd mostly prefer people to just look at my blog and decide if they want to hang out based on that, rather than making some big definitive statement about Who I Am.

But I'm currently accumulating followers at a truly alarming rate and - look, I don't want to give the impression I'm ungrateful, I am genuinely SO TOUCHED by every single one of you who's interested in what I have to say!! The feeling is 100% mutual, and I am having a blast sharing everyone's thoughts and enthusiasm. It's just that my goal with this blog is to have fun and do my own thing. I don't hate attention but I'm also not looking for it.

On balance, then, I think it's probably a good idea to give people a general sense of what I'm about so that if it doesn't appeal to you, we can opt out of each other's social circle before anyone steps on anyone else's toes.

My general philosophy:

I am here to have fun. I might occasionally have a little kvetch about some fandom trend or another but ultimately, even if your favourite trope drives me up the wall, I'm genuinely so happy that it is out there bringing you joy. Primary Fandoms

Good Omens - I have loved this fandom for years and years, since before the TV show as it exists today was even a twinkle in Neil's eye. I ship Crowley and Aziraphale SO HARD and I am completely blown away by everything that we've gotten since the first season came out in 2019. Fifteen year old me could not even have imagined!!!

Supernatural - Literal opposite energy. I resisted this show for its entire run, after watching the pilot when it aired and thinking "if I watch this, I will end up shipping the brothers, and I am just not prepared for shipping the brothers." Fifteen years later destiel came in swinging with the steel chair and I grumbled and decided I'd better watch it to find out what all the fuss was about. And do you guys know what? I was right all along. I came away from that show obsessed with it as a gothic horror story and shipping the brothers hard. So wincest is my otp, but I'm a multishipper and I have a soft spot for wincestiel, destiel and sastiel too. As a darkfic enjoyer, I also dabble in John/Dean/Sam and variants. I'm not, like, opposed to less-dark takes on this, they just don't do much for me. I'm pretty careful to tag ships in this fandom consistently, so if you don't want to see something, you can blacklist it.

Hi, Kate! Sorry, this ask might sound somewhat cynical. Is the show really that good? Like is it worth it? I'm having a bit of a faith crisis. By worth it I mean that in order to go to Amsterdam I'm planning a whole 2 week trip to France since the plane tickets cost nearly 1000€ anyway, so I'd rather make the most of it.

But then the trip is turning out to be quite expensive, yet the possibilities of sightseeing are very limited cause it's winter. I'm starting to think that maybe I should just give up on the show and simply visit France in spring. On the other hand I genuinely don't know whether we'll all be dead by spring or not 🫠 There's also like a chance I'll get to see the filming of a cool tv show if I go in February.

I'm fairly certain that I do want to go, it's just a very spontaneous decision and I've never done anything like this and idk whether I'm doing something fun and adventurous or just irresponsibility spending money.

I guess my question is: is the show entertaining/meaningful/funny or just kinda cute? How long is the sister Daniel segment? How long do they spend on phan theories and how wild (without spoilering) are they? All I know is that there's boxing, true or false theories and sister Daniel. Are there any other segments? I know people wouldn't be going to multiple shows if it was mid, but I just need some reassurance.

idk, how to answer this, apart from technical parts.

the Sister Daniel part is about 10 mins, maybe a little bit more. theories... idk how much time, and i don't have it in me to listen to the audio recordings. there are 4 pairs of theories, and the audience chooses 1 from each pair. they spend enough time on every chosen theory, but there are definitely some "fans favourites", hehe, and if people don't get those, it's kinda sad. some of the theories aren't even theories, they just say what we already know for a fact (cowards!).

other segments: doll house with dnp eras; 1 minute yap about what the audience yells; role model or no-le model (that's actually fun! in Europe specifically because of the cultural differences); their monologues (as if we didn't hear enough from Dan during WAD, i swear); the song (this. this alone was worth all my money. i wanna learn the lyrics by Amsterdam; i hope the UK, that is going very hard, learns the dance, and someone films the audience during the song). i don't remember anything else, but those are not all segments.

i can't say if you should or shouldn't go, considering the budget you are planning to spend on the trip. it's definitely gonna be adventurous regardless! but it also depends on what you're looking for from the whole experience (travelling + meeting phannies + buying merch + watching the show + discussing the show afterwards). since i was planning to check all 5 boxes, i had a good experience overall even if it had cost TOO MUCH money and nerves. but it could be worse, let's be honest. i was planning to travel Europe with them since WAD, so i was kinda prepared to go wild. the show itself wasn't my toppest priority, i would have travelled even if it completely sucked ass. i would say, Dan has put more into WAD as a show conceptually, although we didn't appreciate it enough at that time (and i say "we", and i will say it again, and i 100% include myself in this; those who were there will probably understand what i mean). maybe it's the problem of production, maybe – of the intent. i'm not ready to analyse this shit. is this show made better than ii? i wouldn't say so. will you regret missing it if you don't go? PROBABLY. it's all about the audience, you know. it adds so much to the experience. and you can't predict if the audience is gonna be good or bad, but the show is based on interactions, so you will participate in it, and that's the difference you don't wanna miss if we compare it to watching the tape when it comes out. also, tapes are usually polished. the beauty of going to the show is seeing them fucking up and improvising, unexpected things happening and them reacting to it (it doesn't happen on every show, but you can be lucky, you never know).

i'd say try to go. if you're not sure right now, you don't have to buy the ticket today or tomorrow. Amsterdam has enough of them for now (but check it after a few UK dates; the Brits may decide to travel after seeing the show). the show is entertaining for sure. meaningful? if you read too much into it (this is MY opinion). funny? sometimes :)

Lower Decks

I'm not gonna liveblog Lower Decks because I only liveblogged Picard to maintain my sanity as I endured it. It was more of a defense mechanism than a plan. The only reason I bring up LD is because I wanted to end the Picard thing on a more positive note. Lower Decks is a much better show, and I dare say watching Picard first made me enjoy the experience even more.

It's a comedic take on Star Trek, and the show could be forgiven for playing fast and loose with the premise, but it doesn't. Lower Decks feels like a very authentic Star Trek expereince, but it just has a comedic flavor to it.

It also does a whole lot of callbacks to old Star Trek lore. The difference is that LD isn't depending on the viewer to get all the callbacks. If you don't notice or recognize Spock Two's skeleton hanging in that display room on the collector's ship, it doesn't matter, because the plot doesn't hinge on it. LD also doesn't pull the Picard trick of making callbacks as an end unto itself, like Adam Soong holding a folder entitled "PROJECT KHAN" and nothing happens. Lower Decks has some running subplots, but it's very clear to its audience about which moments are clues and which moments are fun easter eggs.

Most critically, Lower Decks maintains the optimism of the classic 20th Century Star Trek shows. You watch an episode, and things usually work out by the end of it. More importantly, when people lose faith in the world they live in, there's some moment where that faith is restored. Starfleet stands for something and it's not just empty slogans or cynical public relations. It's not all sunshine and rainbows, but there's a light at the end of the tunnel and the characters generally find it. Except for Peanut Hamper. Fuck you, Peanut Hamper.

The fundamental conflict in the show is that these are all good people who strive to be better, to do better, and they tend to get in each other's way as they try to improve. Mariner defies her superiors because they doesn't always know best, but sometimes her superiors do know best. Boimler (and other characters) crave promotion and recognition, but he sometimes has to take a step back and consider why he wants those things. There's an episode where he joins a group of ambitious ensigns and they practice making inspiring leadership speeches, but he eventually realizes that it's a skill he can't use in the here and now. "We have to inspire the crew!" "We are the crew!"

The show demonstrates just how badly Picard fumbled the ball with its "everything sucks now" philosophy. In theory, you can do a utopia-gone-wrong story with Star Trek, but there needs to be a clear understanding of what went wrong and how it gets fixed. You can't just make a Star Trek story that flat out repudiates the optimistic future. You can just have the characters say "Whoops, that never worked!" That'd be like Batman deciding that crime is actually pretty cool. Shows like Picard try to convince the audience that the only way to tell a story is to break everything and make it miserable. Lower Decks proves that's a lie told by lazy showrunners who only know how to pull one lever.

Part of the problem, I think, is that these studios keep trying to do big events, relying on spectacle over storytelling. That's why Picard Season 2 had to climax with Picard's mother hanging herself. It has to be this big provocative moment, regardless of whether it makes sense or fits the characters. Picard has prophetic dreams of Data, the exploding girl looks just like the one from the old painting, it was the Borg the whole time, and by golly there sure are a lot of decapitations in this show.

By contrast, one of the most powerful moments on Lower Decks is when Captain Freeman finally gets fed up with Mariner and has her transferred to Starbase 80. It's not a big, apocalyptic moment that will Change The Marvel Universe Forever™, but it's effective, because the show took the time to establish that Starbase 80 is the worst assignment in Starfleet, and it's the one punishment Mariner takes seriously, and Freeman must be really upset if she's decided to take it that far. And then later, she regrets her decision, and when things work out in the end, their reconciliation is that much more satisfying. It just works. Not everything has to be a swordfight in a Borg Cube, for crying out loud.

I haven't watched Season 4 yet, but I'm really looking forward to seeing the new Vulcan character, T'Lyn on the show. Now we have two blueshirts in the cast. And they're not doctors or nurses! Nothing against doctors or nurses, but there's a severe lack of science division characters in Star Trek, and that screenshot of two of them doing something involving hydrogen samples is more exciting than a hundred Jack Crushers. I hope they do a whole episode about hydrogen samples. That would kick ass.

(Fun fact: This is my second favorite ship (next to bounty hunter x flagellant) so I feel like it was only a matter of time before I caved and wrote something about it). XD

Bigby can smell the man approaching long before he arrives, knows the strong metallic scent of blood and parchment probably better than he knows his own dingy musk.

A rare smile plays upon his lips as the pious visitor appears from out of the dark woods, stepping across the line of splintering underbrush, scaling the rugged pathway of leaves and stone, placing himself at the doorstep of his boyfriend's homey cave.

"Were you finally able to sneak away," the abomination asks from beside the fire, rising to meet the flagellant halfway, his oud growing headier.

"For you, I would do so every night," the flagellant vows, having just come from the penance hall, those of his flock now asleep.

Bandaged arms reach out to hold him, pull his lithe body close, the ever-present chains rattling as he’s lifted up, spun around like a fair maiden meeting their betrothed.

Before he knows it, Damian has joined their lips, this realization striking him with a wave of heat, awed by this hallowed man’s attraction to him.

Soon enough, he relaxes against a coarse mouth, kissing back sweetly, the flagellant surprising him with another swift peck, making his partner giggle, this bond between them still so wild and new, filled with endless possibility.

He fends off Damian’s affections with blithe hands, holding them apart long enough so that he can speak.

"What would they say if they knew you were out here, cavorting with a monster," the shorter male asks, a twitch of dark humor to his words.

"The light accepts all kinds," the flagellant assures him, voice breathy and deep, "And you are a soul most precious."

"Regardless of what you say, you must admit my presence at the abbey is … frowned upon," the skinwalker reminds him, recalling the disapproving looks from holy patrons and townsfolk alike. 

"They will come to accept you in time, just as I have," the flagellant assures, his encouraging smile close-lipped and gentle, "I am sure of it."

Bigby doesn't look as convinced, "I fear I have overstayed my welcome. Perhaps, I should carry out my daily prayers safely from here."

"You must feel it," Damian pleads, showing him the way, "the warmth of the holy flame, how the heavens sing when you recite the verses. It is an honor to count you among us."

Bigby flushes. He forgets how closely Damian watches over him, ensures that any who approach only do so to offer refuge and acceptance.

The abomination may not have much, but he still has his faith. His rosary remains his most prized possession, the trinket never leaving his person, resting now inside a tattered pants pocket.

"I do," Bigby confesses, torn with indecision, "but I don't want the truth of what I am to deter anyone else from coming to mass. Don't you see? It's better this way." 

"Do not run from what power calls to you. It is the Light that brought us together and together we shall overcome this burden. You will see."

As if to illustrate this, Damian takes him by the hand and leads them closer to the crackle of the fire.

Bigby clings onto his shroud as he's pulled along, following his partner down onto the dirt encrusted blanket set around his modest campsite.

They barely have a moment to sit before the flagellant guides him onto his back, crescents of black hair fanning out as the other's body climbs atop his. The priest's is heavy with muscle, warm with passion and Bigby shrinks against his gaze.

"You’re sure you don't mind if it's just me," the abomination asks, this proximity intoxicating. He can barely look up at him with timid eyes before such contact becomes too much.

"I adore both sides of you," the flagellant confesses, playing with the locks of hair, "But having you alone is more than enough.”

Bigby gives a nervous laugh, a shy smile before looking away, letting his long hair mask his face, the shadows of the night obscuring what grim features are left.

"Do not hide how beautiful you are," the flagellant breathes, both a soft reprimand and an impertinent request.

With a bloody hand under his chin, he turns a haggard cheek, hoping to see the shapeshifter clearly.

"You’re the only one who thinks so," the abomination breathes, despondent, in disbelief that Damian would accept him so easily.

"No, not the only one,” the flagellant asserts, knowing there was at least one other in competition for his affections, but he doubted the plague doctor would give up their scientific pursuits anytime soon.

As if to ward off any that would dare come close, Damian drags chipped teeth along the stubble of the wolfboy’s neck, taking violent nips at his ear, marking him as taken. 

"Damian," the brunette huffs, growing too heated, pushing gently at the flagellant’s scarred shoulder, “c-can we slow down.”

The priest goes rigid, ceasing his ministrations, the air growing heavy between them.

"Have I done something to displease you,” he asks softly.

"No, no! It's nothing like that," Bigby assures him, shaking his head.

Damian draws back, confused eyes staring down at his partner, "Then, why?"

"It's just that …,” Bigby sighs, the words difficult to maneuver, “well, this … this is …," he gives up on trying to be delicate, heaving out another sigh, "I want to take things slow. Enjoy this for as long as we can."

"Worried you’ll burn too hot," the flagellant grins, teasing him.

“More like … I am worried things will fizzle out too quickly,” the abomination explains, averting his gaze, being practical about something that he probably shouldn't be practical about.

Damian nods, respecting his wishes. He could certainly see the appeal of waiting, of feeling each other out with little tokens of affection until they coalesce into something more sacred and deep.

The flagellant shuffles, retracting his imposition, offering a hand to help the other man up, the two sitting shoulder to shoulder towards the fire.

The morbid priest has not made a move since, lost in thought, sitting in silence, watching the logs burn and Bigby is starting to question the validity of his own decision.

The wolfboy unwinds his shroud, drapes the frayed garment around him and Damian, shifting closer to lie his head on a scarred shoulder.

“I am sorry,” the abomination sighs, brows knitted together in remorse, “maybe we could just talk for a bit?”

Damian smiles under his hood, grateful that the lycanthrope was taking initiative, setting a pace that would help him navigate their tentative relationship.

"Of course," the flagellant permits, shifting closer, leaning down to whisper in his ear. "what's on your mind?"

"Nothing… ," the abomination grounds out, gnashing his teeth, thinking about the exact problem weighing him down even as he speaks of the total opposite.

He loosens his grip on the shroud, sinking further into Damian's comfort, suddenly changing his willingness to open up, "... everything," he relents.

"Then, let's start with something simple. Why did you come here tonight?"

Bigby blinks, as if it was obvious, "I wanted to see you."

"See? Easy," the flagellant praises, bumping their shoulders together playfully, spurring him on, "you can tell me anything."

The wolfboy chuckles at this harmless taunting, his partner having successfully cheered him up, but it quickly fades into something deathly morose.

"There are times when I worry that all people will ever see is the beast. That I will never escape from it."

Good Stuff: The Super Mario Bros Movie

A fan shouldn't always sugarcoat it. Even if you get something you never figured you'd ever want but appreciate a lot, that doesn't mean a bias should bury any deeper feelings. What I'm getting at is Illumination's Super Mario Bros Movie can be so awesome and it was worth going to the theaters to see personally, but I can't get over the crippling flaw it has to say it was as great as I could say now. Better to be honest now than get increasingly unfulfilled later. First, though, I gotta give the props where they are due.

First, Bowser was The Best in this and I want him

For real, the animation was what I waiting for this whole time, no problems here. The film is fun. If it wasn't fun, that means Disney would've made it and it'd never come out anyways because of "creative differences". Illumination I found can make animations that are really bouncy fun, and it's best shown here. Plus the characters look incredible, DK especially, and there are moments where, in the best way, it felt like a cutscene from a video game I would want to play. Not to snipe at the Sonic movies, but this is seriously what I've wanted from video game movies since... Angry Birds 2? Like enough with the hybrid live-action crap, make a cartoon if the sourced game is about a CARTOON universe. "You mean like Ratchet & Cla-"

This leads to something tricky I had in mind to discuss, and that's "faithfulness". Not long ago I watched the 1993 Mario Bros movie, a fiasco that one can argue was unfaithful to most of the source materials even with the few things they got right. Did we get something more suitable here? Well, I definitely wasn't annoyed with the fucking stupid discourse surrounding Peach's characterization and Mario's voice that's for sure. Many will cite this as having a great fuckton of references but I enjoyed the liberties they took whether or not they were references. The fact it starts out in Brooklyn made me already smile but the final act had my booty jiggle with unhinged glee. There's some corniness to it, especially with the certain musical needle drops they do, but even then it felt like they reveled in the corniness of those moments. This made me believe Nintendo and Illumination were looking to just make it excitable and enjoyable regardless of what fits where. It pains me though, knowing that there is that crippling flaw I mentioned at the beginning because while this film was fun, it went by fast. Ludicrously so... disjointedly so.

It was the Apex Cinema Speedrun, if you will

Many negative reviews claim this has a very thin plot and I honestly didn't consider that a wholly bad thing. A thin plot doesn't mean it wasn't cohesive or focused, or that there weren't any arcs to be had. The real problem comes in that certain moments don't feel earned when we barely get any time to cherish them. The pacing of this was kinda atrocious, the tight runtime truly being a detriment behind ideas for characters getting brought up well only to have shallow payoffs. Peach and Luigi especially had something about them I wanted to see more of, but before you got to see the plant blossom, they keep chugging and you're like "Ah, that's it?" They didn't need to spell everything out but let the characters breathe.

Bowser and DK felt like the exception

If this was the only movie we ever got again (knocking on wood), the fun of it all would soon subside for increased disappointment in the long run. I could say "This needs more movie" as a compliment, but that would mean I was fine with what we got. The live-action film, batshit as it was, felt consistent with everything it wanted to show and tell whether or not you saw the director's cut. That's why it became a cult hit, you remember how batshit it was. I genuinely enjoyed the film, but even with its many stand-out moments, it's gonna be hard to remember this film as much as I want to.

Except for Lumalee, I don't ever wanna forget them

I won't tout this overall as mid or "playing it safe" because they did so much right with this. When I say they stuck the landing with the Mario brothers themselves, that genuinely got to me. When we got the adventure, I relished the adventure. Like for the love of god, give me more of all this PLEASE! However, I won't give it a pass and call it perfect just because it tickled the Nintendo fan in me. Illumination's great when it comes to being in the moment, that's why I stopped hating on them, but in terms of their films having staying power this being a Mario film is carrying it hard from being a potentially forgettable one. For me, this is the movie adaptation of the Super Mario Super Show I never knew I wanted but looked forward to and felt was worth it. At the same time, my mind is fighting my heart strong knowing this Mario movie could've definitely been stronger. My final say is that it's a 6/10 movie with 10/10 moments. If you're looking for fun, this delivers no doubt, and don't let this review stop you from calling it a personal masterpiece.

What matters is that Mario finally made the Range

bf made my fave meal toady which was really delicious, and also got groceries as he does every week, and made some phone calls I didn’t want to make.

Also it stormed really hard and I really enjoyed listening to it and standing with the door open and watching for a bit. The world was so dark and sepia toned all day. smells so good. I love storms.

I have a co-counseling session tomorrow and I always feel so conflicted about these but I also feel like the state of mind to even want to heal, much less actually do something about it, is a privilege that I should not take for granted.

I’m just grateful. I realize that we need to be grateful for things if we plan on healing and sticking around, which we do (regardless of what some parts of me say durning meltdowns and bpd episodes.) I do intend to heal. I don’t know what the point is but I’ve been working on just having faith that there is one. Again, kind of a survival necessity for us at this point. Maybe the point is just to eventually feel at peace in a way that we never have before. Idk.

I’m grateful for a lot. My dogs. My home. My relationship. My nice headphones even if I have to use an adapter to actually use them nowadays. My prescription sunglasses that allow me to see outside without being blinded. Weed to be honest, and a growing market that is making it more accessible to me. The friend I still have and all the friends I’ve ever lost. All the friends I haven’t made yet. Family members that aren’t around anymore. Every pet I’ve ever had. Everyone who ever taught me anything. My favorite teachers. My boss at my first job out of college. My boss at my last job before I stopped working. All the coworkers and employees who made working fun while I could do it. Everything I never thought I’d miss about having a job. Ice cream. Milkshakes. Pizza. Potatoes. Cheese. Chocolate. Every show I’ve been to. My childhood home and all the places I used to escape to. All the surreal experiences I’ve had.

Anyway I’m just grateful.
