I'm seeing a lot of "ugh, so we can't even criticize fic authors anymore?" posts popping up on here and the ao3 subreddit and I just want to say, for the record: No one's saying you can't criticize (fanfic) authors publicly. They're saying it's rude and antithetical to positive fandom experience. And, yes there's a difference.

If this website was a conference and I had just spent a whole afternoon listening to a presentation on [unpopular fic trope] and after that was done, I got up on stage and very publicly told the audience that [unpopular fic trope] was illogical and anyone who writes it is woefully misinformed and should be banned from writing [relevant character], that would in fact be a dick move.

"But the canon character would never--" it doesn't matter. You're shouting down the hall at the person who just happily did a whole seminar on their OOC version of that character. "But I don't like that the author chose to make them--" good, you're well-acquainted with your likes and dislikes, time to find another fic.

We all run into fics and interpretations we don't like. But there's a huge difference between loudly talking about it on Tumblr where the author can see it, and just venting in a private discord or other group. Also, gentle reminder that this is a hobby for most writers and something they do purely because they enjoy it. Stop being massive dicks just because you feel entitled to a certain flavor of fanfiction you will probably be chasing until the Reformation of Krypton.

in my mind adrien like literally did not have internet access until he met nino. the parental controls just went SO hard on his devices that he basically could do nothing except text nathalie and do his homework. when adrien wanted to watch a new anime or something he had to submit a formal request to his parents via nathalie to get approval. and after he watched it he would like put notebook paper on his laptop screen and trace over his favorite scenes so he could look at them again later. that kid didn't even have google images. when nino told adrien, 2 days after he met him, to give him his discord handle so that they could vc and play video games together, adrien gave him the blankest stare of all time. nino almost started crying. what do you mean you haven't heard of discord. here give me your phone. dude why is your phone so broken. you can't download apps. you can't even open a browser. are you okay? are you being abused? no listen I can help you. you don't have to live like this bro. would you like to pirate a movie

YOU ARE FULLY ALLOWED TO ENJOY MORALLY WRONG CHARACTERS. YOU ARE ALLOWED TO LIKE CHARACTERS WHO HAVE DONE HORRIBLE THINGS.

I see people going "oh!!!! oh that's not!!" over posts about Jimmy all the time but IT'S OKAY TO LIKE "BAD" CHARACTERS.

Jimmy is very well written in my opinion. I love how delusional and how sick of a man he is. I fucking love his character. Does that mean I support his actions? FUCK NO!!!!! Does that mean he's free from criticism? FUCK NO!!!! Do I still love other characters like Anya for example? HELL YES!!!!

liking a character for any reason, even if it IS in a gooner sort of way, does not automatically make you support their actions. it doesn't mean you're ignoring what they've done, or you're watering them down, or you hate their victims. I love the Jimmy hate posts but please do not attack people for actually enjoying him. please this is common sense.

I find it fascinating (derogatory) how the general fandom conversation has shifted from "this woman is getting in the way of our gay ship and she's USELESS and ANNOYING and WE DON'T LIKE HER!" to this weird "no actually she's just not involved in her own relationships because she's too cool and special and awesome and a girlboss". But the problem is that there's not actually a veritable difference there. People still aren't engaging with her as a fully-fledged character. Like sure man calling her a girlboss is fine it's whatever but let that lead somewhere else. Engage with her. Can you actually name any of her character traits or are you just blindly praising her so that you can focus on shipping the guys in the background without feeling bad about it

y'know, the different factions of spn fandom on tumblr do fundamentally and vehemently disagree with each other about a lot of things, and many of the factions actively hate one another, but i just want to say for the record that i appreciate the fact that this site is not overrun with painfully hetero facebook fans. i just saw someone over there saying with their whole chest that they fully expected the finale to have dean meeting jo harvelle in heaven and them getting afterlife married, and someone else angrily responded that this was obviously never going to happen because clearly dean was still in love with lisa braeden who would therefore be his finale bride (i guess this person expected her to die in the finale somehow?), and then someone ELSE responded that they wouldn't want to see either of those things happen because they like to pretend dean is their boyfriend and it would feel like cheating(!!!!) if he ended up with one of them and they'd never be able to fantasize about him anymore. and all of these comments had over a dozen people agreeing with them.

I have an Atom ask because as soon as I realized they were a bundle of worms I was obsessed.

So, I don't find worms the most adorable thing in the world, like I would a puppy, perhaps, but I do enjoy the occasional noodle. They are silly little dudes that help with my compost which I salute them for (makes my plants grow better, amazing fertilizer guys, keep it up).

I would love to hold worms in my hands, but they are not very keen on sunlight or being out of their beloved dirt. HOWEVER. Pookie Atom.
