#but ‘platonic friends’ Hayffie is special to me too
Text
I know Hayffie is most commonly a romantic ship, but I’d also love to see platonic Hayffie. In book canon they definitely don’t get along at certain points, but it’s clear Haymitch cares for her (he and Plutarch “fought” to keep her alive in Mockingjay). And not even to mention that they’re some form of canon in the films.
But anyway, in an alternate universe where they don’t hook up, or end up moving in together, etc…
Haymitch calling Effie in the reconstruction era of the Capitol, the two of them catching up and sharing updates. Both of them caring for Katniss and Peeta. Effie checking in and visiting for their sake, and bringing Haymitch a fancy drink she assumes he’ll enjoy.
The two of them generally getting along, occasionally bickering or disagreeing. They don’t exactly have a reason to stay in contact, but they do nonetheless.
Haymitch being happy to hear about a certain someone Effie’s been seeing; Effie absolutely overjoyed if/when Haymitch begrudgingly mentions that he’s seeing someone, etc. Or, both of them contently remaining single, and focusing on other joys.
Haymitch getting annoyed as hell when Effie pushes a call upwards of two hours. Effie talking about literally anything under the sun.
Effie, Plutarch, Haymitch, and the other adult victors occasionally meeting up when applicable; sharing stories and “reminiscing” on old times (especially considering a lot of them ‘worked’ together).
Idk, I know most of those things could still fit into the romantic ship category, but I just enjoy exploring different ideas with characters. I’m definitely of the opinion that platonic characters and ships are just as interesting and can be just as meaningful as romantic ones.
Plus, I’m queer and have been interested in different ideas of ‘relationship anarchy’ and just that general stuff, so I think it shines through a little bit; I like to queer the things I like LMAO.
