A Statement From SIREN
On Friday, Anu spoke out about the interactions SIREN had with her between 2016 and 2018.
To Anu, we are all deeply sorry for our behaviour and the pain that it caused you. You took the time and energy — and not for the first time — to make us aware of the serious harm our actions caused you. We recognise this was one of many attempts you made to let us know the meaning of our harmful actions towards you. You tried to educate us on the power that we had then as a majority white collective, and have now as an all white collective. We should have listened the first time you raised concerns, and acted upon them, and we did not. We recognise that the various ways we interacted with you were inadequate, arrogant and racist. We respect your decision not to want to open further dialogue with us.
Members of the collective treated you without respect, and other members were complicit in their silence. Collectively, we completely failed to communicate well amongst ourselves, and to hold each other accountable. We accept that any politicising statements we have made since were hypocritical and misappropriated, because we did not do enough work in practice. We had no business borrowing the language and optics of activism — not only as a now all-white collective, but also as individuals who hurt you without accountability. We failed to practice what we claimed to be best practice. There is no excuse for the way we treated you.
We realise we did not create a safe forum to discuss these issues with us. The fact that Anu was made to feel anxious and unable to attend events for fear that we would be there, means that we have done the opposite of providing a safer space on any dance floor. The language we often used to promote our projects and parties wasn’t inclusive, and made others in the community also feel unwelcome. We apologise not only to Anu but also to the whole music community for this, without any expectation of response or forgiveness.
Since the start of this year, we have been internally discussing the future of SIREN. By not publicly acknowledging these discussions sooner, we have continued to be complicit in gatekeeping in the music industry. We see now that the way we distributed opportunities from our platform allowed us to personally benefit from white privilege. We should not have self-appointed ourselves as allies on numerous occasions, and we accumulated cultural and social credit out of this place of harm.
As an acknowledgement of all of the harms described above, and the structural issues embedded in SIREN’s existence, we are ending SIREN. We acknowledge that a white collective causing harm as we have done, without being accountable, serves to dismantle nothing. We recognise that this is only the beginning of the work we must do.

SIREN MIX 019: Bakläxa
Unveiling the first SIREN mix of 2020 & a new decade! This one comes from none other than Bakläxa: UK bassmate playing a mix of hard drum, grime, dancehall and percussion-driven dance music.
Alongside her monthly show, ‘Feels’ on Noods Radio, she has played for the likes of Berlin’s queer femme sex party Lecken, bass weight party promoters Warning, Awkwardly Social Berlin and contributed to Rinse France, Red Light Radio and Berlin’s Cashmere Radio.
Here’s what she has to say about her mix for us:
“I wanted to explore the spaces between bassy riddims and darker more techno orientated sounds. 2019 was such an epic year of development and growth for me and when asked to do this mix and the timing of it, I knew I wanted to be able to put those experiences into some sort of audible format.
I wanted to pull all sides of my influences together in one mix where I wasn’t thinking about the audience or the platform or even my mood, it was a deeper selection process than that, each track needed to talk to me on a more holistic level in order to weave it’s way in there. I’m happy with the outcome and the foundations it lays down for 2020.
The mix was recorded at community pillar space, the workshop on forster: http://www.workshop-on-forster.de“

The newest arrival in our mix series comes from none other than Ida Engelhardt. Based in Copenhagen, she is involved with BunkerBauer, one of the cities’ most exciting fast trance collectives. Her contribution to our mix series serves up a kaleidoscope of high paced and uplifting trance, leaving absolutely no corner of the genre unexplored.
Whether its modern edits of pop classics, mind melting psytrance, old skool euphoria, or the hard trance that Engelhardt and her fellow Copenhagen contemporaries have become so adored for — there’s a slice of trance for everyone.
Ida tells us “compared to some of my other mixes, I’m taking a more laid back approach in this one. I was feeling a bit down, so I was in the mood for something more light, fun and trancey, with an unpretentious vibe. But still bangers ofc ;-) I ended up having a lot of fun while recording it. So it helped me get in a better mood :-)” Tracklist: Nostrum - Brilliant (long version) Britney Spears - Toxic (Mercury 200 Lightspeed Edit) ABSL & Anetha - Elles Scope - Pacer Kinetic A.T.O.M - Borg Destroyer Dj Energy - Believer Tripiatrik - Tripiatrik Mantrax 1 - Symmetry Children Of Paradise - Alien Nation 1 Noctilus - Everglade Lifeforms Loke - Jack In The Box Caveman - Mars Attacks OMNISELF & Marilao - City Psy Hyperforce - Supermax Code 16 - Mystery Planet E Team - Gooroo

SIREN MIX 017: mad miran
For the 17th entry in our mix series, De School resident mad miran transports us to a world of sharp pixels, tough rhythms and sub-aquatic bass frequencies.
Her natural fluidity between genres sees restless acid dissolve into deep mysterious pads, throbbing rave basslines curl up into jagged IDM rhythms. The tracks in the mix all share a freaky energy and insectoid peculiarity, resulting in a mix which remains rave-ready, whilst also feeling intergalactic.
She says about the mix:
soooo been a while since i recorded a podcast. lots of traveling and working days but making this mix consisted of lots of hours behind the booth in my room. my excited + perfectionist side doubles up when recording a mix, but in the end i guess i to have this to feel double fulfilled with the vibe i created for you from my collection.
would describe this hour as high energy but never peaking too high. tried to give a sense of one of the feels of ‘club mad miran’ (anno winter 2019 hehe). recorded with two cdj’s, one turntable and my baby xone92.

SIREN MIX 016: Katiusha
For the 16th entry into our mix series, Berlin-based DJ Katiusha takes us on a thrilling journey which expertly balances sounds light and dark, fast and slow, sharp and soft. The result is a mix which keeps you on your toes as it takes agile twists and turns, alternating between being jacking and bizarre, it transports us deep into a rave where it feels like anything could happen.
Katiusha’s style swims between a love of deep, dark sounds and the zesty attitude of the UK scene. Originally from London, now based in Berlin, she can be found playing at Griessmühle, Suicide Circus and Cashmere Radio.
She says about the mix: “I started out wanting to make something dark and techno-oriented for this mix, but ended up gravitating more towards a colourful tip instead. A few of the tracks feel like throwbacks to summer when I was enjoying airing out some weirder selections. Then there are some favourites I've been sitting on for a while, like the He-Men and RSD tracks... I also felt like it was good to start on the Peder Mannerfelt number, as I get lost in anxieties about creativity and choice during the recording process – but it was a neat reminder to just get on with it and play what came to the surface.”
Tracklist:
Peder Mannerfelt – Limits to Growth

SIREN MIX 015: Karima F
Edition 15 in our SIREN mix series comes from Karima F — a Norwegian-Algerian DJ, and resident at Jaeger club in Oslo, where she runs Affirmative Action: a night that "bridges the divide across genres and genders in clubland.” She also co-heads Schloss Records alongside Ida Ekblad, which saw its sophomore release this year by the artist herself.
One track in particular from that EP, “Random Loop From Doepfer Site”, has been on the tip of everyone’s tongue and the bottom of everyone’s record bag this year. Its a breakbeat track that revs and moans until exploding into playful melodies, which perfectly encapsulates the colourful palette Karima F pulls from when she DJs.
About her contribution to the SIREN mixseries, she says: “There’s no secret recipe behind this mix: It's a small collection of fairly new favourites of mine (including an antique!), crammed into an hour for your listening pleasure. Spot the basic bitch tempo shifts!”

SIREN MIX 014: Lychee
The latest sonic expedition for our mix series, which takes on the narrative of a "near-future climate fiction", comes courtesy of Brooklyn's Lychee.
You may remember us sharing their incredible "aquatic techno mix" for the Daisychain mixseries as one of our weekly spotlights not so long ago. Known for playing the more hypnotic, trippy side of techno, they are also a resident at Distrikt1 at Bossa Nova Civic Club and founder of Spontaneous Affinity: a monthly mix series, and sometime events. They have played alongside artists including Objekt, Rrose, Takaaki Itoh, Legowelt, Claude Young and the Honey Soundsystem crew.
Here's what Lychee has to say about their conceptual mix they have made for us: "The mix was sort of created as a 'near-future climate fiction' (apparently that's a thing), recognizing what it means to create music and spaces with a utopian aim at the cusp of what often feels like the end of the world, themed around nature vs. the planet, aquatic vs. industrial forces. Thinking about how our spaces can look to the future, but also how they may help us accept and cope with a difficult or hopeless present, or even societal collapse. I thought of it in six chapters, starting with harmony, moving through struggle, ending in planetary death and eulogy."

MMMelt writes about this mix: “With this submission, I aimed to provide a vantage point or a window into my history as baby raver reared in the 90’s New York underground rave scene…when Jungle, Breakbeat, and Gabber was life, and PLUR was dogma. From ’95 to the present, I’ve entered deep voids, seen heavens, danced on the wind, felt the high-octane heartbeats of so many kindred spirits, and traveled eons through worlds of rhythm and ambiance and sub-bass subtleties. I’ve made an attempt to demonstrate a piece of that here:
Playing with spatial atmospheres (both linear and abstract) as well as textures from the ethereal to the playful to the menacing, I do my best to pay homage to the techno heroes and subversive underground movements that have inspired me to be a part of this universal fabric of sound selectors. Though the tracks are predominately more modern (of this decade), they all emote a parallel NRG of sound that drove my soul to be both liberated and animal.
In the spirit of keeping PLUR thriving, I hope you enjoy :)”

SIREN Mix 012: Sayang
In this hour long vinyl mix, Leeds-based DJ Sayang takes us on a raw and chugging journey through snarling wiggly synths and fissured percussion. The mix flicks between spooky dancefloor weirdness and booty shaking sass with a sense of fun that is infectious.
Constructing high energy, explosive sets that traverse hard techno, electro, acid, Chicago house and everything in between, Sayang is a DJ and producer who uses their platform to explore race, queerness and culture.
They also runs Flesh In Tension, a queer techno fetish party in Leeds which “twists the usual fetish space by decentering white cis masculinity and instead invites you to embrace its roots in the Queer and PoC communities that this party is inspired by. All bodies are beautiful, all styles are beautiful. Sexual liberation is at our core.”
Sayang says about their mix:
“This is actually a really slow mix for me. I was in a messy mood and as I was digging through my records, tunes I loved when I was a teen were standing out for some reason. I was definitely feeling a more slow and synthy vibe thanks to that. The recording was quite a cathartic process and definitely cleansed my mind of the fogginess that was there. I was stomping around, feeling in my element and channelling all my masc and weirdo energy into this one. Selection-wise, there are a couple of tunes from film soundtracks that I love, oldies and a switch in energy as I let the techno take over and I pay homage to some of the originators and the greats (You can tell I'm feeling more power here!). There's a certain fuzziness and imperfection to some of my records that I think really lends itself to the sound and what was going on in my mind too...“

Next up in the SIREN mix series we have London producer, DJ and visual artist Jasper Jarvis — who contributes a club-ready mix that focuses in on familiar excerpts from pop to emo; but captured through an unfamiliar lens.
Their creative stamp on the London club scene extends to a multitude of outlets, which includes co-organising the event series and recently turned record label ‘New Scenery’ which platforms womxn, non-binary and LGBTQ+ artists. Jarvis recently released their debut EP ‘Finty’, and has since received praise & plays from all over: whether it’s contributing to Astral Plane’s mix series or support from both NYC’s Club Chai and Bala Club on NTS Radio. The London based artist's talents also extend into the visual realm: last year was rounded off with a collaboration with Sega Bodega on a music video for track ‘daddy’ — which was featured on Boileroom’s 4:3 as part of Sega Bodega’s ‘self*care’ project.
Jasper says of their mix: “The mix is made using music from my club DJ sets and also tracks that i've gathered for inspiration on a new project I’m working on. I generally enjoy taking a wide range of genres and meshing them to form an dialogue of some sort. And using mixers and visceral qualities of pre-existing music as tools in order to generate a new rhythmic or contextual perception.” Tracklist: Monster Soundtrack - Ferris Wheel (Love Theme) Bonaventure feat. Weaving in and out of hypnotic percussion, vocal samples, jungle, downtempo jams and leftfield rhythms, Gribs’ mix for the tenth edition of the SIREN mix series is a seamless patchwork of organic and electronic sounds.
The DJ is also co-manager of the London label TT — and this mix reflects exactly what the label has become so admired for: its inimitable skill at digging deep for some of the most new innovative music, whilst keeping it surprising and cohesive at the same time. The sonic identity of Gribs & the TT family is hard to put into words; it’s more of a feeling that occupies a specific space that no one else in London otherwise occupies.
She explains that this mix “ties together influences from recent experiences & long-gone lengthy conversations; articulating a focused club mix with pockets of hazy reminiscence. Textures, feelings and slippages lay over music from friends and beyond.”

SIREN MIX 009: Deep Creep
For our ninth SIREN mix get ready to enter “a portal to another trance” from Deep Creep. Recorded straight after a night of hearing Bill Converse DJ, Deep Creep takes the listener on a weird and wonderful journey through trance, acid techno and all shades of wiggly dance music. We can really feel the energy of that night's dancing emanating off this mix. As it unwinds, let it transport you to another dimension.
Deep Creep grew up in suburban Texas listening to 90's rave music with her mom and brother. After moving to Austin, she started throwing all-night DIY parties in a Mexican restaurant featuring regular appearances by Texas legends such as Bill Converse, House of Kenzo, Sam de la Rosa, and more.
She moved to NYC “guns a blazin'” and promptly found a spot in the Broke City collective. She is also responsible for the Pipipi mix series, comprised of temperature-themed mixes from DJs & dancers — shedding light on rising talent and others who share pure passions for dance music. Pipipi also just launched their party series at Mood Ring in Brooklyn, with many more to come.
She says about this mix:
Trance
It’s in the name itself
A moment at the club where we are all connected
Grievances from the week shed
That tiny chill on your spine during a peak track
Focused energy and light
I went to Nowadays to watch my friend Bill Converse play. After getting home I attempted to sleep with a couple drops of melatonin and lied awake in bed still fully absorbed in the set that I had just witnessed.
I made this mix while watching the sun rise in my studio, which became a portal to another trance.
A trance of self acceptance & embodiment
A farewell to the imposter who has sat on my shoulder for so long
Thank you Cari ;)

SIREN MIX 008: Ifeoluwa
The eighth instalment of the SIREN mix series comes courtesy of Ifeoluwa - a multifaceted artist, lecturer, writer, DJ, NTS radio host, and head honcho of record label 404. As a DJ, she is known for her hard fast music, emo grime, R&B club cuts, post-trance edits and is regularly found dipping into post punk and UK Techno.
In her own words, she says about the mix: “I don’t think it’s a secret I have a lot of feelings and that I L O V E music, especially of the dance persuasion. So I put together lots of my favourite sounds that get me gassed in the clubbbbb. This mix perfectly captures my energy. Kinda sad, dramatic, then SUPER ENTHUSIASTIC and then HARD & HECTIC. There’s also a reminder part way through that the world is definitely ending soonish. It doesn’t necessarily follow any rules when it comes to mixing which I find all bullshit and restricting anyways. It has tracks from 80bpm to around 175 because why not. It’s alright if you ask me.”You can catch Ifeoluwa DJing as one of the new residents at Hope Works in Sheffield. Tracklist:

We kick off 2019 with our first mix of the year: a collaborative mix from UNITI co-founder Englesia & the mysterious DJ Pussiephuss.
Englesia is a DJ - vocalist - producer - artist - curator. They began their journey as a teen spending weekends dancing to experimental music in underground Shanghai, and from there was inspired to follow the footsteps of those who soundtracked those experiences by moving to London, and cofounding UNITI, a platform for womxn, nb & lgbtq+ artists, prioritising POC thru events, releases, and radio. Their DJ sound is not-pulling-punches-slutty, hardcore heavy duty drum heavy experimental alternative club, with no fear behind the decks, flying between BPMs, mixing vocals, drops, kicks, bass-lines, body fluid, & emotion - they've played sets from Milan to Detroit to Shanghai. DJ Pussiephuss is a latex-masked, London-based DJ who plays take-no-prisoner sets filled with pounding kicks & high energy trax, focusing more on 4x4 rumbles of the 140-170BPM kind, she's a DJ who will have you lying in a puddle of communal rave sweat by the end of the night.
About the mix: E: I aimed with this mix to represent the boldest parts of my existing, emotions of growing inner strength & projecting power, and I try with every mix to curate a narrative that offers a clear reflection of who I am as a person, artist, and raver. I enlisted DJ Pussiephuss to add her signature furious & unforgiving sound, as I wanted to mix hard, destructive dance sounds with sculptured noise - soundscaping has been an integral part of my djing since the beginning, warping bpms & noises to create surprising, otherwordly, enveloping environments, rattling the listener's skull in the best way possible alongside beautiful dance music too. I picked mostly songs by artists I know personally who deserve to be on the top of all the lists & charts, particularly queer/trans/nonbinary artists and artists of colour. Estoc is one of my favourite artists of all time, and in my opinion one of the most important producers of right now - her brain is a web of never-ending beautiful conceptions. Mun Sing is an incredible, multi-talented DJ & producer creating experimental dance in an incredibly impressively intricate way, who has released on the iconic SVBKVLT label alongside Hyph11e, a fantastic, ingenious artist who is part of the Shanghai scene that my DJ self was birthed from. Relating to my biological heritage as a Toba Batak Indonesian, I included a contemporary experimental tribal track made using traditional Indonesian folk instruments (inspired by the artists' rock/hardcore roots), which I discovered after deep-diving digital labels in Indonesia specialising in experimental electronic & homegrown punk music. The listener will find clear influences of brash & beautiful in this mix. Please, please enjoy, with much care & love, Englesia & DJ Pussiephuss.

The sixth installment of our SIREN mix series comes from one of London’s most exciting and interesting sound artists, rkss.
We first met rkss, real name Robin Buckley at one of our parties, and we’ve been keeping our eyes on what she’s been up to ever since. She has already put-out a handful of releases on an impressive lineup of labels including Alien Jams, Where To Now & UIQ, whilst her radio series for Resonance FM Extra, Lossless Communication, explores the intersection between sound discovery & the internet. Crossing between intricate sound design, and ASMR elements that entwine house, ambient and computer led sounds, she has a unique style which can be heard across both her productions and mixes.
This mix explores inspiration and exploration, a journey through the minimal depths of sound with hair-raising vocals and stagnating rhythms. According To Rkss: "I wanted to put together some of the music that has informed the rkss project since the beginning: various forms of house and techno tracks that push against the norms of their respective genres."

SIREN MIX 005: Sentimental Rave
We invited Sentimental Rave to bring her dark and emotional take on rave to the SIREN mix series.
We fell in love with Parisian DJ Sentimental Rave after seeing her play at Corsica Studios in December, alongside the likes of Arca, for Danny L Harle’s Harlecore takeover in Room 2. We arrived early for her set — and yet she went in no less heavier than for any other set time; the crowd was already heaving before midnight.
Whilst her sound circles around hardcore, gabber and trance - Sentimental Rave explores a depth of emotions and timeframes in her mixes, often placing old school tracks alongside contemporary productions. The result is a cathartic and tender take on techno, in spite of all the intensity and darkness of its atmosphere.
“When I do a new mix, I try to put in some new tracks that I just dig; generally it's a mix between new and old stuff. That's why I put 700 Bliss (Moor Mother + Dj Haram), Umfang, Digital and L.A.B, with some 90's classics. I also like to deconstruct the mix, and change the atmosphere with some rap vocals for example - and I always like to finish my mix with some hardcore or gabber. I close with Zenith - Streets of Avalon; which is for me a really beautiful hardcore track — I feel very touched by this one.”
DJ Sentimental plays in London on 25th April for TREMORS TV x Dr Martens in North London.

SIREN MIX 004: PETITE SINGE
Kicking off our first mix of 2018 we welcome Petit Singe, an artist who's been on our radar since the drop of her phenomenal Electronic Explorations mix last year.
Real name Hazina Francia, the Milan-based producer has been making waves since the release of her debut EP Akash Ganga on Haunter Records.
Layering Indian folk samples against tribal polyrhythms, Francia transforms the sounds of her heritage into central characters within her own futuristic strain of club music, one that is both playful and brooding. This tension pervades her SIREN mix, as she leaps from feral jungle into dystopian cuts from the weird and wonderful likes of M.E.S.H and Amnesia Scanner.
According to Petit Singe: 'the mood of my mixes depends on the situation or personal feeling I’m living with in that specific moment. I really love doing research and sharing my stuff with other stuff from other artists, in exchange for their new stuff. This is the coolest thing I’ve discovered doing my work: sharing tracks, words, ideas with other artists.'
Petit Singe's latest single 'Komm Wieder Mit' is out on 11th January on Houndstooth.
