what are your favourite doctor/companion duos? idk if you've said this already but i'm curious, especially with 15/ruby properly in the show now :)

It really changes (though my top 4 remains the same) but here it is currently on the fly.

1. Ten/Martha: I will always go to war for them. I think they’re the most fascinating duo. I want to study them under a microscope

2. Twelve/Clara: They’re like ten/rose but for toxic and insane people

3. Ten/nine/rose: self-explanatory I mean hate them all you want but arguably the doctor losing rose is the inciting event and thesis statement for the rest of the show. I simply cannot distinguish between ten and nine here this is one complete arc and still the best told companion arc start to finish. Only reason they are three is because the two above have something so wrong with them I want to study it

4. Ten/donna: I can’t believe I’m putting them four because arguably their chemistry is the best of the whole show but I don’t find them as fascinating to dissect as those above

5. Fifteen/ruby: the only reason they’re in five is that they’re not done cooking yet. Individually they’re in my top 5 but my one criticism of this season is we haven’t gotten to see them having fun together or solving problems together as much as we should! If they fix this, I see potential for them to be in top 3

6. Twelve/Bill/nardol: another one where im so sorry they’re so low. Their vibe is iconic in every way and the only reason for the lower ranking is that the dynamic doesn’t compel you to dissect and analyze as much as the others

7. Eleven/amy/rory: I know they love each other and people love them but this chemistry simply did not work for me.

8. Eleven/clara: only watched like one episode of them and it was one episode too many

9. Ten and every actress RTD forcibly paired him with in those never ending specials because he couldn’t let go of David Tennant

How Sally Acorn and The Freedom Fighters can work in a Sonic game.

This is a little essay I want to make on how Sally Acorn and The Freedom Fighters can potentially work in a Sonic game.

Brief summary. Sally Acorn is a character from the Sonic the Hedgehog Archie comics, and is especially known for being in the Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon, dubbed by fans as Sonic SatAM.

The characters of Sally Acorn, Bunnie Rabbot, Rotor the Walrus and Antoine D'Coolette are characters exclusive to this show as well as the spin-off comics. They are part of a group known as The Freedom Fighters, which also consists of Sonic himself as well as Tails. Their goal is to liberate their world from the tyrannical Doctor Robotnik, better known as Doctor Eggman, the main antagonist of the games.

These characters were made for the show, but I believe they can work in the game setting. It just requires a bit of tweaking to have them fit the Sonic Team vision, and this is how I would go about it.

Let's start with the gameplay, as that is the most important part of a Sonic game obviously, or any video game for that matter. Now, obviously in most Sonic games, Sonic is playable. In those games he runs at high speeds, hence his name. The gameplay reflects that perfectly. This has been a thing since the first Sonic game on the Sega Genesis.

Any games where one of his friends are playable usually have that friend running at high speeds. Examples include Tails in Sonic 2. When he's tagging along with Sonic, he's keeping up with his speed, or on his own, he has to show that same speed in gameplay.

This continued through the Genesis games with the introduction of Knuckles, and into the Adventure games with characters like Shadow. Some characters do have slower gameplay, like Amy Rose does in Sonic Adventure, but it's still speedy in its own right. Amy definitely has quite a boost in speed by Sonic Heroes.

The point I'm getting at is this. If Sally were to be in the games, there's two ways to go about it. One way is making her an NPC. Sally does not have the speed or abilities that the game cast have. So putting her in a traditional Sonic level would make her feel out of place.

Could she be given powers? Absolutely. But I feel like it messes with her charm. Her being a normal character should not be a bad thing. No one had a problem with Batman being in the Justice League. Sally has plenty of strengths, even if not in gameplay. She can appear in cutscenes, give orders, or anything. Not every major character in a video game is playable, and that extends to the Sonic franchise. Tikal didn't need to be playable to be important in Sonic Adventure 1 after all.

If anyone was going to be playable in a Sonic level, it would be Bunnie Rabbot. She has the cybernetically enhanced limbs and could speed and power her way through a Sonic level.

However if Sally were to be playable, an option would be to give her specifically designed levels that focus on her slower gameplay. It could even be stealth based. Think about the levels in the game, Sly Cooper. Sally could sneak around and gather intel to assist her team, and use stealth takedowns on enemies, or just fight.

Another feature would include having Nicole present in some form, either as a computer or in her Lynx form. She can even have a role similar to Omochao in which she would explain the controls or give hints throughout the levels.

Option two is this. A Sonic RPG. We've already had Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, but I think another Sonic RPG is due. Especially given that Sega owns Atlus, who are famous for the Persona franchise. An RPG is a great way to introduce The Freedom Fighters.

With an RPG gameplay, you don't have to worry about how characters can keep up or not. Everyone is at an even playing field. This is assuming that it's a turn-based RPG, like Persona, or the original Final Fantasy games. (And Sonic Chronicles too of course).

Most RPGs don't have that many people in a single party, so you'd still need to pick and choose. Chronicles was generous with eleven characters. So I'll bump it to twelve. My picks would be Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Shadow, Rouge, Silver, Blaze, Sally, Bunnie, Antoine and Rotor. We can have cameos from characters like Rosie, Dulcy, Uncle Chuck and Lupe. This in addition to the game characters of course.

The RPG route could be interesting, as it could allow for a mechanic known as The Affinity System. This system has been used in Final Fantasy 7 and Tales of Symphonia, and is particularly featured in Fire Emblem, and even the Sega owned Persona.

The affinity system allows for character bonds to grow through gameplay and side quests. This could be a fun way to show how friendships develop among the Sonic characters, and be a good way to show a bond when it comes to the Freedom Fighters. There's another reason that I will get into in a bit.

Another idea is to make a fighting game. It would be a Sonic Fighters type deal where characters from across the Sonic Universe could fight. And why limit it there? Sega could feature characters from across the multiverse, which includes SatAM.

Sega has what it takes to make a Sonic 3D Fighter after all. They have the Virtua Fighter team with nothing to do. Honestly it'd be funny if characters like Akira Yuki or Jacky Bryant made playable appearances.

Then again, having humans fighting Mobians (or whatever Sonic's game franchise calls these characters) might be troubling. Anyone who remembers the Star Wars characters in Soul Calibur 4 knows from experience how hard it is fighting a small character like Yoda.

Still, a fighting game featuring Sonic characters can work. It again puts them on even ground, and power doesn't need to match. You see games like Dragon Ball FighterZ or the Marvel vs Capcom games having crazy looking matchups that don't make sense, but it's a game so you don't have to think too hard on it. So long as the characters fit, then it's fine.

Be it a 3D fighter, or a 2D fighter, either way it could be fun to see the Freedom Fighters in a fighting game.

This mainly applies to the SatAM Freedom Fighters. Anyone from Archie could be troubling given the copyright issues. Not all characters have this, those like Fiona Fox and Mina Mongoose could theoretically come back. It depends on what Sega wants, but if they were willing to bring them back, that would be a plus. Mina and Fiona deserve a better story than they got in Archie Comics, and being adapted by Sega could be the fresh start they need.

I'm not opposed to other making it into the games, be it Cosmo from Sonic X, or Tangle and Whisper from IDW. They can all co-exist in the Sonic gaming franchise along with other characters.

Now to get to characterization. There's a difference between Sonic in the games, and Sonic in SatAM and the comics. Japan portrays Sonic as very humble compared to how the West Portray him.

In Archie, Sonic is very full of himself and a bit egotistical. He's very likely to smack talk someone. He's got a larger ego, and plays up the who superhero thing.

This is opposite of what Sonic Team sees Sonic as. Yes in the Japanese versions of Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, he had something of an ego, and was rude, but he became pretty humble by the end of SA2 and from there, he's had a friendlier demeanor.

Why do I bring this up? In SatAM, Sally's thing was constantly telling Sonic what to do and keeping him from being immature. Sally wouldn't need to do that in the games because Sonic is already mature, so their dynamic changes.

Also, Sonic is not really one to be bound by this stuff. He's not a superhero type like Western Media likes to portray. (A misunderstanding he has in common with Goku). He always does his own thing.

Now I know I said Sonic's not a superhero, but I will use them to make the comparison. While the Freedom Fighters are duty bound like The Avengers, Sonic and his friends are like The Fantastic Four. They're more explorers than heroes, they just happen to do good things.

So while Sonic is chill and more mature than in the games, Sally can still find Sonic irritating since like SatAM and Archie, he does what he wants. Difference is that Western Sonic would brag about doing what he wants while Game Sonic just does it without the need to explain himself.

Sonic and Sally would have different dynamic. I can see her trying to get him to do what she wants him to do, but he's giving her a hard time. But he's nicer than Archie, and he's usually more respectful to girls, so he may try to explain himself at some point, only if he wants to.

Romance would not likely be there either. Sega does not want Sonic in a relationship, and honestly if they do go that route for him, he'd likely be with Amy.

I can see Sally crushing on Sonic, but it would be one-sided. He wouldn't return the affection and Sally may eventually give up. But the respect would still be there.

Also bear in mind, if Sally does become part of the games, that doesn't mean she'll be a main character. At most she'd be a side character and only appear when needed.

Backstories would need to change too. Sally may not be a Princess this time around, but Knothole can exist on an island where Sally is the mayor's daughter or something. Keeps it political for her and she is somewhat a Princess. It can even be a nickname.

Roboticization doesn't exist in the games, so Bunnie being a cyborg would either be due to an accident, or it could be an Iron Man situation where she was given robotic limbs. Rotor could build them.

Antoine could just be a knight. He may or may not be married to Bunnie at first, but that's not something I want to see rushed, so it's better off being alluded to. If anything, just say they're dating.

Nicole is tough. The original plans for her was that she was once Mobian, then had her brain uploaded into that computer. She gains a physical form again, but comes back as a child and becomes a daughter figure to Sally.

Nicole could essentially be Sally's little buddy like Tails is for Sonic if they choose to go that route.

Or she could be older and just be Sally's best friend, or even her sister either by blood or via adoption. I would personally go with the adoption route, it adds a bit more to their friendship without having to add too much exhibition.

It could be a simple game, either one of the classics, because the Freedom Fighters just fit well in those, or modern, which works too. Whether they already knew Sonic or just met him is another thing to consider.

If you go with them already knowing him, it'd need to be done carefully. Like Sonic met them once but didn't stick around. He lost contact with them because they couldn't keep up. Sonic's friends stick around because they could keep up.

But that's their relationship. Sally may not have a deep bond with Sonic, or Tails for that matter, but such is the way it is for Sonic games.

Though going back to the affinity thing I mentioned for the JRPG, theoretically that can be used as an excuse to have romance. Build a bond and slowly have the two fall in love. It doesn't even need to be with Sally though, you can have Sonic fall for Amy. You can have Sonally or Sonamy, and the best part, it doesn't need to be canon. Both can be what-ifs, similar to Final Fantasy when it came to Cloud with Tifa or with Aerith. Or the many possible Fire Emblem pairings.

This could be Sega just testing the waters to see how romance would be handled. If they want, they can even give Sonic an option to be with Blaze. Sonaze fans should be happy too.

Even so, let's say Sonic is meant to be with Amy. Personally, I say don't pair Sally with anyone. Though if she absolutely had to be paired with someone, I'd say maybe Mighty or Ray since they're game characters who can fit the Freedom Fighter aesthetics well. (Personally, I vote for Ray. Chipmunk and Squirrel.)

Oh, and I suppose I should discuss her wardrobe. I'll keep it simple, I don't see why Sega would need to give her clothes, I always found that double standard weird. Why is it okay for guys to go without pants but it's not okay for girls? I don't think any other game or franchise with anthro characters have that issue. Either everyone worse mostly clothes or no one did.

But if Sega feels the need to put clothes on her, then fine, no big deal. Just make sure they look good. Don't force it like the reboot did.

But that's my take. Sally can work in the games with effort, and Sega just needs to try. The key is getting her popular enough for Sega of Japan to consider her. But Honestly, having Sally in the games would be a great service. Sega has done great services lately, such as bring back Sonic's friends for games like Superstars and promising to bring back older franchises like Jet Set Radio and Streets of Rage.

I know SatAM has a different vibe from the games, but considering Sega's fine with The Diamond Cutters in IDW that do similar stuff like the Freedom Fighters do, and the fact that Sonic Forces had this rebellion thing, Sega's willing to go this route.

Mario has done similar with characters like Pauline in Mario Odyssey and Daisy in Super Mario Bros wonder. Sonic needs to keep up this kind of momentum. Let's keep up this momentum. We'll Rally for Sally as they say.

the vibe I’m getting from the movies thus far is that they pick new characters based on how much hype they’ll bring and how much they can raise the stakes from the last film. With that in mind, Amy and Rouge don’t fit either category, so I can’t see them showing up at all :/

I completely understand the frustration that you’re feeling on your end. Let me assure you that it’s perfectly okay to feel upset not seeing your favorite character(s) on screen. It’s a normal feeling. I promise.

This information is all in my pinned post. I think that it goes back to the “January” tab. (I’m not sure, my brain is fried from course work today). The way that the crew includes characters is based on how the story is projected, as well as audience familiarity with characters. They also follow a standard of introducing one or two characters at a time.

Sonic a very popular game franchise. It’s been that way since the 90’s. This logic would actually fit myself (a 20+ year fan) and my mom, who was a fan of Sonic in the 90’s with her cut-off year being Sonic 3 & Knuckles. They’re going to include Sonic characters that people know. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Dr. Robotnik, and Shadow are recognizable characters.

It’s understandable that they’re going this route. I do recall that I’ve said back in 2021 not to expect Amy Rose or Rouge. With what I’m seeing so far, the main story revolves around Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Dr. Robotnik, and Shadow. And that’s okay. Shadow has a lot to unpack and it’s one of the most rememberable stories in the franchise.

Here’s the good news: the SCU crew engages a lot with Sonic fans. That, and most of these crew members have worked on Sonic games. They listen to fans a lot and value feedback (if you’re civil, mind you). I believe that if you’re vocal about it, then you could get them included in a potential fourth.

A trans-identified male is set to compete against women as the reigning Women’s Snooker Champion at the English Women’s Snooker Championship on May 24 in Walsall, UK. Jamie Hunter, 27, became the top women’s player following a semifinal victory against a young girl last year.

Hunter first rose to prominence during the English Women’s Snooker Champion finals in 2023 after he came out victorious against Mary Talbot-Deegan, finishing 3-1. Hunter had managed to make it to the finals after he beat out Ellise Scott, an 11-year-old rising star in the snooker world, taking 2-0 against her in the semifinal grouping. The event had been Scott’s debut in the tournament, and, prior to her match against Hunter, she had achieved three match victories against experienced female opponents.

Hunter had been participating in women’s cue sports since 2021, just one year after he “came out” as transgender.

Prior to transitioning, Hunter played in a mixed-sex amateur league for five years. Speaking with Snooker Zone in 2021, Hunter admitted that he had no intention of competing professionally until he discovered that there was a women’s tour.

“Until this year, cue sports was just a hobby, something I done once, maybe twice a week, but now finding out about the Women’s snooker tour, I believe that will change,” he said at the time. “They make out as if I played snooker as a man, I was rubbish, so decided to do it in the women’s instead. I changed my gender for my wellbeing and my life, not for anything else.”

Hunter received significant backlash after his 2022 US Women’s Open win, when former women’s world champion Maria Catalano criticized the policies enabling males to compete against females. In an interview with The Sportsman, Catalano argued that women’s snooker should exclude males from female categories, as some rugby leagues have, to ensure fairness for women. 

“We have fought so hard for our rights in the past – myself, Reanne Evans and others got people to write letters to allow us to play in leagues and clubs that banned women. I don’t believe that women can compete against men on a level playing field in sport. We are wired differently, we think differently. We are mentally different,” said Catalano. 

The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) publishes a mixed sex international ranking of players. The highest-ranking female on their current list, Mink Nutcharut, is listed at 119.

In response to the criticism of his wins against women, Hunter has framed the backlash as transphobia.

“Everybody’s human. Regardless of what choices you make. You should treat everybody with respect,” said Hunter speaking to a BBC journalist last fall. Bizarrely, Hunter was interviewed while he sat in a gaming chair in a dark bedroom — which he refers to as “the dark girl cave.” The room has a transgender pride flag pinned up on the wall behind him.

The upcoming English Women’s Snooker Championship is set for May 24, 2024. It is being organized by the English Partnership for Snooker and Billiards (EPSB), which is the national governing body for the sport in England. Fixer Upper Pitch For:

Sonic The Hedgehog has had five western animated shows (Sonic The Hedgehog, Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic Underground, Sonic Boom, and Sonic Prime) and one Japanese anime (Sonic X) plus an OVA movie. And I gotta be honest: I don't think any of them are really great shows. Boom is stupid fun and hilarious, but there's not enough there to take it to any level beyond "really good". The two earlier Jaleel White Sonic shows obviously have large fan followings, but I think both of them were just bog standard good at being what they were. Underground just kind of sucked all around, and X kept getting weaker and more forgettable.

But then there's Sonic Prime, the one that came so close. No, I do not believe it's canonical to the games universe, but it is closest to the games' general look, lore, and tone. It was developed by Man of Action of Ben 10 and Generator Rex fame, given a run of 23 episodes, and split into three seasons on Netflix through 2022-2024. The reception to it was...polarized, as to be expected with Sonic fandom. I think the general consensus is that most people liked it during Seasons 1 and 2, but then Season 3, both in execution and how it concluded, killed a lot of goodwill and soured people on the series as a whole. And yeah, that is one of the show's biggest faults.

I need to cover the show's strongest elements first, thus what I'd want to see left in tact in a revised version, before I get to the fixes.

The characterization and voice acting for the characters. I'm even gonna go here - Deven Mack, Vincent Tong, Shannon Chan Kent, and Ian Hanlin are better in their roles than the VAs currently voicing their characters in the mainline games. They nail the essence of these characters so well. Props to Ashleigh Bahl, Kazumi Evans, and Brian Drummond, as they're also pitch perfect fits for their roles.

The animation style. It perfectly blends a replication of the games' 3D graphics with a distinct cartoonishness that plays well for TV.

The background designs. New Yoke City especially standing out.

Sonic's arc. Sonic's a hard character to write a character arc for, so I appreciated that they had him grapple with the consequences of his rashness, cockiness, and putting himself and his own impulses and set goals ahead of his friends, and then also show us the dark side of that development by having his responsibility and commitment to his friends (as in his versions of his friends specifically) be so great that he fails to appreciate the ways in which the other versions of his friends like Nine differ in terms of who they are and what they want. I like when Sonic is allowed to be a fuckup. More of this shit, please?

Nine's character. His introduction was a little shaky and try-hard, and the execution of his Heel Turn for the third act left a bit to be desired, but his overall character was solid and compelling to watch.

Mr. Dr. Eggman. AKA The lead member of the Chaos Council and the only one among them who's competent and has got some true menace to him. His presence was great and he had such potential.

The Amy Roses. Rusty Rose in particular is a show stealer when she's around, but I loved all Amy variants and the bond they forged.

Knuckles The Dread. Gollum-level obsessed pirate Knuckles isn't something I knew I wanted, but he was just mad entertaining.

Shadow the Hedgehog. It's been said a lot, but this series really nailed the antihero depiction, role, and characterization for Shadow, and is one of the things that helped restore him to his former glory.

The Enemies. They all had terrific designs and action animation, Chaos Sonic and the Prismatic Titan being especially memorable.

The Humor. It's no Sonic Boom, but it could be funny enough.

The Heart. You can tell that the people working on the show did love and care about the property and wanted to make this as worthy an addition to the franchise as they could manage to make. As result, the show feels the most like the story of a Sonic game adapted into a serialized TV format, and I really can't appreciate it enough for that.

And now for the things that needed some major fixer uppering.

The Episode Count. This is often an Achilles Heel for Netflix shows and it even counts for this one. If this show was greenlit and designed from the ground up as a "season" that would likely be the entirety of the show, then clearly it needed to have 26 episodes. When you get 23 episodes, make the premiere double length, then burn through 16 episodes worth of story until your final season has only 7 left, leading to a lot of padding in that time, the final result naturally comes out wanting.

The Shatterverse Count. This is one that would make a massive difference in how the show and story would get laid out. When the Paradox Prism shatters, it becomes five Prism Shards: red, green, yellow, blue, and purple. Yet we end up with only three unique Shatterverse worlds created? Just the dystopian city, the prehistoric jungle, and the sea-covered world? There absolutely should have been two more to round it out rather than sticking the other two crystals in Ghost Hill and The Grim respectively, and they needed to be an icy, snow covered world and a Mad Max-esque hot, magma-filled desert wasteland world. Ghost Hill would still exist within the Void as the afterimage of the Shatterverse's origin point - the place in which the Prism shattered - and we'll get to The Grim a bit later. In addition to rounding out the Shatterverse itself, it could also give focus to characters that lacked it. New Yoke City had its Tails variant at the forefront, Boscage Maze had its Amy variant at the forefront, and No Place had its Knuckles variant at the forefront. If we got two more actual worlds, we'd have a Rouge variant at the forefront of the wasteland world and a Big the Cat variant at the forefront of the snowy world. That way it'd not feel like those two characters got the short end of the stick. And finally, there's what this could do for...

The Chaos Council. Plainly put, the concept of this group was just terribly thought out and terribly implemented into the show. The idea of any variant of Ivo Robotnik sharing power over the world is just a non-starter - it is massively OOC. It would make far more sense if it was just Mr. Dr. Eggman who ruled New Yoke City. At the same time, I'd not want to lose the other Eggmen 'cause five Ivo variants each at different stages of their life is just way too funny an idea to pass up on. How I'd fix this is that rather than the Chaos Council being fully formed from the offset, they're only loosely formed. Each of them took over their respective Shatter world - Mr. Dr. Eggman rules New Yoke, Dr. Babble rules Boscage Maze, Dr. Don't rules the wasteland, Dr. Deep rules No Place, and Dr. Done-It rules the snowy world - and they're all in contact with one another. Then once Eggman gains the power to travel the Shatterverse, he recruits each variant of him in-person one after another, so we see the Council come together in real time. This would effectively build them up as a threat to contend with, even while they're forced into an alliance of convenience to stop Nine, would reduce the other four members screentime so that their one note gags don't get as tired, and would set up a great punchline ending to them when they try to seize power over the Shatterverse only for the reality of "Ivo Robotnik would never share power, there can be only one!" to set in and get them at each other's throats.

Knuckles' Voice. What....were they thinking with Adam Nurada as Prime Reality Knuckles? Actually, I know exactly what - earlier in the same year Prime debuted, 2022, Knuckles was voiced by Idris Elba in the Sonic 2 movie, by far the deepest sounding Knuckles voice to date. So for whatever reason, the powers-that-be felt intimidated and that their Knuckles had to sound like a deep voiced black man too, so before the show's release, they hastily had Adam Nurada dub over Vincent Tong for all of Prime Reality Knuckles scenes....while leaving all three of his variants still voiced by Vincent Tong. And while Elba has the talent to make his take on Knuckles work, Nurada really doesn't. They needed to leave Vincent Tong in the role of Knuckles. It's a tell that every main cast VA has more than one role to voice in the show except for Adam Nurada. He was a last minute addition.

Nine And The Grim. Here's another notable shift. In the show, Nine discovers this place he calls "The Grim" and upon realizing that it could be made habitable, decides he wants to make it his new home by taking the Ghost Prism in Ghost Hill to use as a blueprint as he exploits the shards of the real Paradox Prism to recomplete it and transfer all of Prism energy to the Grim even if that means the other Shatter Spaces must disappear. Him starting on this also unmakes Ghost Hill completely. This is a solid development but for one issue... why is the Grim a place that exists? Much like Ghost Hill holding one of the Prism shards, the Grim as a world holding a shard does not work in theory or in practice. Would it not make more sense for Nine, after what Sonic has told him about Green Hill and the life as brotherly friends he and Tails Prime lived there, to want to remake Ghost Hill into a home for himself and Sonic? That he'd not want to restore the original Green Hill and instead, out of its remnant, make his own that he thinks would be a better, perfect version of what it was, and when Sonic rejects that idea, he instead replaces Ghost Hill with this vacant space known as "the Grim" out of spite so he can go on to make his own perfect new world from there? It'd work much better and add even more of a personal touch to Nine's Heel Turn.

The Fallout Of Nine's Actions And The Final Battle. When this happens, it should've also led to a three episode backtracking run through the Shatterverse so Sonic and Shadow could rescue the denizens of the vanishing worlds and then a single episode for everyone to come together in New Yoke City before heading to the Grim to face Nine. The final battle could be the last three episodes rather than four, with a lot of the action pieces and character-story beats that happened in the Grim in those last four episodes of the show we have having occured earlier when there as more space to flesh them out and let them sit better, and also allow less padding time in the final season where the same stuff happens on repeat.

The Ending. For the show's ending, when Sonic goes through the time gateway back to Green Hill a few minutes before shattering the Paradox Prism, there needed to be a little something more to it. Like, say, Sonic using up the last trace of Prism Energy to fracture the Prism's shards without shattering it whole, implicitly creating a new reality for what was (but now never was) the Shatterverse so that the denizens, whether they remember their old lives or not, get a chance to make better lives in better worlds than what they'd had before, just as those in the Prime reality are. Less of a bleak aftertaste this way.

With these fixes, Sonic Prime could've been the definitively great Sonic the Hedgehog animated series. In the form we have it in, it feels like we have 75% of a game rather than a 100% completed run.

Hi! Thank you for taking the time to read suggestions for short stories! Here is my first: For the Rollswap AU, Amy and Omega meet up when they both start fighting Eggman robots and somehow the pair wind up buying him accessories. Great for fashion and bashin’! Maybe they even get matching dresses~…? Or get the rest of Team Dark in on it?

I had a lot of fun with this one! And have now created something that is now cannon. Enjoy!

Man, why did Eggman always have to bring an army to every fight. Amy thought as she used her hammer to swing badniks away from her.

At least Team Dark was called in to help.

It was the second time she'd fought alongside them. (The last time being when Metal disguised himself as Eggman.) They were a lot more pulled back last time. But now, they held nothing back.

Especially Omega.

The robot rained barrages of artillery at the badniks. Comments of further destruction echoing through the battlefield.

“DESTROY ALL EGGMAN ROBOTS!”

She smashed another robot that was getting close to Omega. They turn in her direction and stop their onslaught.

“AMY ROSE.”

She's startled to hear them call out her name. “Yeah?” She kicks another robot away as Omega grabs the Robot and throws it away from both of them.

“I REQUIRE INFORMATION.”

“About what?” She asked, confused.

“SCANS INDICATE YOU DO NOT HAVE AN ABNORMAL TYPE OF CHAOS ENERGY THAT ASSISTS YOU IS WIELDING YOUR UNCHARACTERISTICALLY WEIGHTED HAMMER.” Omega said, watching Amy crush another robot under the hammer's weight.

“I guess you can call it mystic energy? Knuckles believes it's a type of Chaos energy.” Amy said.

“I REQUIRE FURTHER DATA. REQUESTING MORE INTERACTION IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO BETTER COMPREHEND THIS AFOREMENTIONED MYSTIC ENERGY.”

“I'm not sure I follow?” Amy asked, confused.

Sonic zips by stopping next to Amy. “They're asking to hang out.” He quickly said before speeding away to rejoin the fight.

“You want to hang out with me?” Amy asked, surprised.

“AFFIRMATIVE.”

“Oh, sure! But maybe we'll figure that out after the fight.” Amy said.

“ACKNOWLEDGED.”

The two decided on a day and met up in Central city. Amy wasn't sure what exactly they should do so they were first walking around the park.

“How have things been for you?” Amy asked,

“G.U.N. HAS LIMITED TEAM DARKS MISSIONS DUE TO STATED OVER EXCESSIVE VIOLENCE.” Omega said.

“So you're collecting other data in the meantime?” Amy asked. There was a pause before Omega finally responded.

“AFFIRMATIVE. YOUR CAPABILITIES ARE AN ANOMALY THAT COULD POTENTIALLY BECOME A LIABILITY.” Omega said.

“Do you really think I'm a threat?” Amy asked.

“NEGATIVE. REGARDLESS, IF THIS MYSTIC ENERGY IS SOMEHOW UNSTABLE. MORE DATA WILL BE NEEDED.” Omega said.

“That's really sweet Omega.” Amy said as they began to leave the park and head towards the shops. Onlookers step away from the massive weaponized robot.

“SWEET: HAVING THE PLEASANT TASTE OR CHARACTERISTIC OF SUGAR OR HONEY.” Omega stated.

“That's the one. Always trying to find ways to help your teammates.” Amy said.

“I ASSIST THEM SO THEY DO NOT BECOME A HINDRANCE IN BATTLE.” Omega said,

She knew they were deflecting but she wouldn't push it. Having alone time with Omega was a rare thing if you weren't a part of Team Dark.

“MAY I MAKE A REQUEST?”

Omega returns home that night as Rouge and Sonic were cleaning up from dinner. “Hey bud, how'd your play date go?” Sonic asked.

“INFORMATIVE. AMY ROSE’S MYSTIC ENERGY IS VERY INTUITIVE. SHE ACCEPTED MY REQUEST TO BUILD A HAMMER OF MY OWN FOR PROWER TO INSTALL.” Omega said. Happy beeps coming from them as they enter the kitchen.

Rouge is quick to notice the shimmery glitter coming from Omega's fingers. “Is that… Nail Polish?”

“AFFIRMATIVE. AMY ROSE SUGGESTED THE POLISH MIGHT PREVENT DAMAGE WHEN I RAKE THROUGH MY ENEMIES.” Omega said flashing them a look at their nails.

Sonic can't contain his laughter.

“YOU'RE JUST JEALOUS BECAUSE I'M A MATERIAL GIRL” Omega joked as now Rouge was also dying of laughter.

Omega sadly learned the nail polish didn't help very much. But left it on until it all faded away.

Rambling Sonic thoughts

Would it be bold of me to say I want Amy Rose lore? I know Sega hates lore for Sonic characters but I really really want Amy to have some sort of backstory.

Like: Where is Amy's home? Does she have family? How did she become interested in the occult? What were thoughts on Sonic before "predicting a destined encounter with Sonic" on Little Planet? These questions could lead to her having other interesting relationship with new or existing characters.

This question might be silly but: "Piko Piko hammer lore, perhaps?" 🤔

I'm insane and I believe if Amy is half Echidna that would open the door to SO much interesting story and lore potential.

That's the most frustrating thing about being a Sonic fan. I think the only character that has a clear and concise background is Shadow. Sega definitely isn't afraid to explore his past thoroughly.

If every Sonic character got the Shadow treatment Sega would have an endless array of stories to make games, comics and merchandise with. I have to bring that up because I know money comes first to companies. The whole year of Shadow thing happened because it's safe and would make money.

I could make my own lore or see other people's ideas and have fun with it but it will always be just coping mechanism for the lack of official Amy lore. 😭

(from my main but this is variousqueerthings): am really enjoying reading your analyses of amy -- I definitely felt more resonance with her on this last Big watch I did, when I could disconnect the way she would at times be underserved by the writing, from what was actually going on in her story, and it's fun going from there to reading deeper analysis that picks on those threads even further

I don't know if this refers to only my straight analyses I've posted on this blog, the rambling rants I've done in the tags of other people's posts, or my fics (someone once called a fic of mine an "eloquent rant" and sometimes I feel like that's a great way to describe the more "character-study"-esque of my fics), but either way thanks! I actually had my own reevaluation of Amy Pond as a character when I got back into Doctor Who this year thanks to various other blogs/others analyses (shout out to @saint-eleventh, @thefiresofpompeii, @spoofymcgee, @ameliapondmd, and plenty of others, including you, @variousqueerthings, with your rewatch series). The first time around, when I watching Doctor Who as a freshman in high school, I couldn't pick apart the Moffatisms from the foundation of a very compelling character full of fascinating contradictions and unabiding faith and a desperate loneliness that connects so well with Eleven's. (I also, full admission, hadn't gotten the shift between how companions were written in Davies' era v. Moffat's, with the companion's arc being as integral to the story during 9 and 10 v. during 11's- though I am also now realizing the mistakes that Davies made, especially with his handling of Martha and other black characters.) Now, though, I can ride with the fairytale vibes of Season Five, which has steadily risen through my season rankings, and can also appreciate the push-and-pull of Amy Pond.

I hate love triangles but looking at Rory and the Doctor now as embodying the themes of domesticity/growing up/stagnation v. travelling/danger/curiosity and the way that the narrative constantly tries to shove Amy into the former (literally making her a wife, a womb, a mother, a vessel, stripping away her agency at every turn) makes it all the clearer how Amy, whenever given the chance, turns to the TARDIS. She doesn't want Rory to die in Amy's Choice but chooses him by choosing the TARDIS and life with the Doctor. Her biggest act of agency in the show is demanding the Doctor show up at her wedding, literally yanking him into existence and demanding that he prove to the world that her faith in him was never mad, was always the most sane thing in the world. Even at the end of the God Complex, when she should hate him more than anything, she still believes in him (and frankly, he believes in her. Eleven and Amy are each other's gods as much as they are each other's best friends).

I think that Eleven and Amy are made for each other in the same way that Nine/Rose, Ten/Martha, and Twelve/Clara are made for each other, to believe in each other, to change each other, to make each other's stories full. I love Donna&Ten, Clara&Eleven, and Bill&Twelve as much as anyone else does (I seriously adore all of these dynamics), but you can't tell the Doctors' stories and arcs without the first set of pairings I mentioned. And realizing that about Amy and Eleven and the effect they had on each other (the fact that after eight hundred years without her, she is still the last face he sees before he regenerates, the fact that she can literally remember him from nonexistence) really made me realize the potential and impact of her run as a companion/their dynamic this go 'round. I think that's the great thing about a show that runs for this long and with so many doctor&companion pairings- you are constantly going to bump up against these relationships that transcend friendship and romance and go into world-shattering, character-arc-altering, often-verging-on-codependent dynamics that impact both sides for the rest of their lives.

The planet is called Mobius, and the year is 2133. The city is named York New, a place where Mobians and humans live together in special harmony. Amidst the bustling streets, a young fox races through with agile grace. His true name is Miles Prower, but everyone knows him as Tails. Tails is a unique fox, born with two tails, and his yellow fur and sky-blue eyes make him stand out.

Tails' life is marked by both tragedy and talent. His older adopted brother, a brown hedgehog, disappeared mysteriously one day. Despite media coverage calling it a mystery accident, no one knows what happened. Left alone, Tails had to fend for himself. He is a mechanical genius, able to design, build, and repair anything mechanical.

However, Tails has a secret: he is actually only eight years old, not the eighteen or twenty that everyone believes him to be. The laws in York New prohibit anyone younger than fifteen from working, so Tails lies about his age to earn a living. His small stature often raises questions, but he deflects them with clever responses. He might joke, "Oh, umm, what tiny body? You saw this in a horror movie called Orphan? The character Esther Coleman was the same. Calm down, it won't kill you." Or he might say, "Oh yes, like in that medical drama House MD, season 3, episode 10, 'Merry Little Christmas'. Remember Maddy Ralphean? Tiny bodies can be deceiving."

The fear of going to an orphanage drives his deception. Tails has several reasons for avoiding it:

Fear of Harm: He worries that potential adoptive parents might be abusive

Bullying Concerns: He fears being bullied and hurt by other children in the orphanage.

Neglect: He dreads that caregivers might not provide the help and support he needs

Poor Conditions: He has heard troubling rumors about the orphanage being filthy and filled with sickness.

Despite the challenges, Tails finds solace in his small apartment. His earnings from his mechanical work are enough to live comfortably, allowing him to maintain his independence and avoid the perils of the orphanage. Few people know the truth about his situation, and he keeps a low profile.

Tails does have two close friends: Amy Rose and Cream the Rabbit. They visit him regularly, providing companionship and support. Tails cherishes their friendship and often dreams of adventures. However, his deepest wish is to one day reunite with his older brother, the brown hedgehog who vanished without a trace.

What do you think Amy "spread the love" mission at the end of Sonic Frontiers means? What will she do? Use her tarots cards to help people find their true love? Will she be kind of a coach to help people find their true passion in life? Will she gain sone new love-chaos-magic to make people feel love? I think there are a lot of possibilities, what are your headcanons?

Hmmmm, interesting question!

During Frontiers, Amy mentions she plans on sharing "this love" with the world. This is right after that flashback scene where those two Kocos reunite, just before they pass. She also says it'll take her and Sonic far apart.

Two things came to my mind:

One: It seems to me that Amy feels inspired by the type of love that was just shown to her. Amy realizes here that she's got potential to fulfill, a destiny of her own if you will.

Given her passionate, kindhearted and open minded nature, she's got a lot of love to share with the world. By simply being who she is. By letting her heart guide her wherever it leads her. By keeping an open mind to take on challenges, so she can grow as a person and be the change she wants to see in the world. Whatever that may look like. I think everything you mentioned sounds just like her cup of tea! :) She's mentored Cream before, she inspired Shadow to do the right thing on the ARK, she reunited birdie with her siblings, she became friends with a robot and many more things! She is a sucker for true love, fulfilling ones destiny, so yes. I can't picture her going anywhere without her lucky deck of Tarot cards with her. Hehe. That's the great thing about a character like Amy Rose: she's so postive and passionate and caring that whatever she'll end up doing in the future, she'll pour in her heart and soul. One of my friends once mentioned the world would be a better place of there were more people like Amy Rose. I try to remind myself of that when it feels easier and so tempting to be well... a bitch xD rather than doing the kindhearted thing.

Two: In order to explore who she is and to become independent, she needs distance from Sonic (and the others). Sometimes a completely new environment is what you need in order to break with old habits, set new bars, dream new dreams and challenge yourself. It's no secret that Amy has struggled with feeling the lesser one in Team Sonic's company. (If you'd like to read more headcanons about that, I highly recommend looking around in @shadamyheadcanons 's archive. They have written some great stuff about this subject).

I can only imagine good things (amongst some turbulence here and there ;) happen when she does what she's supposed to do.

HI I'm still in mourning about Mimi and I'm tired of pretending I'm not!!! So to cope I'm going to post hcs and yell into the void YIPPEE let's get goin'!

•Mimi is about the same height as Kokomi, but she's wider (Genshin is afraid of curves and hips but I am not and thus!!! I bestow them upon my baby)! Has a bit of a belly (she's squishy!! friend shaped!! she gives the best hugs ever)

•Her voice claim would be Lisa Ortiz in English (4Kids era Amy Rose AKA my FAVORITE Amy Rose good GOD Lisa KILLED it as Amy)

•She loves to sing and moves to Fontaine to become an idol (just like Kuki she wasn't happy being a priestess), sends Kokomi letters frequently.

•Personality wise she basically acts like Yoimiya in my head - a bit childish and bubbly and very excitable but also emotionally intelligent- she also says silly little catchphrases when she's taken aback like "great googly moogly!" or "oh my goodness gracious". She's very sensitive too, cries really easily. Please do not yell at her.

•Huggy touchy! If you're friends with her prepare to be leaned on, hugged from behind, gentle hands to the shoulder to comfort, and a kiss to the cheek every time she says hello (Mimi says I love you like it's a greeting she's so so openly affectionate she has SO much love to give)

•In terms of team role, she'd be a DPS/CC (because we barely have any hydro wise + cutesy/frilly aesthetic girl who hits like a truck is my favorite trope), I'm thinking her burst would be something like a tidal wave and she's like "THE OCEAN TAKES NO PRISONERS"/"Whirling waves, WASH AWAY IMPURITY!" (She means business in battle.)

•Very much an optimist, though not naively. She simply chooses to believe that in spite of the cracks and imperfections of the world it is still overall beautiful, and so are the people: you just have to look for them. Mimi also believes that there is potential for good in almost everyone (keyword POTENTIAL. NOT that everyone IS good, but if they choose to be, they could be); and that everyone deserves a friend (I really like the idea of her reaching out to Heizou, since he doesn't really have a lot of them. I think she'd be ride or die for him tbh)

As much as I'd like a new character, for example Amy in Sonic Movie 3, I think they'll probably want to focus fully on Shadow & his backstory. He'll be the star of the entire thing.

That’s a reasonable thought, hon. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

I’ve shared my thoughts on Amy Rose’s chances of appearing in the film, as well as her being there for the right reason. And we’ve talked a bit about the fear of her being there in general. I’ve always made it a point in saying that if she isn’t in the third film, then I wouldn’t be angry. I’d happily welcome her in a (potential) fourth film.

I do, however, strongly believe that we’ll get Rouge in the third movie. The writers and the director like her very much.
