Moreover, Medusa was the only mortal of the Gargon sisters, so also raped by Poseidon and disfigured by Athena (her hair was turned into a hydra). And later also beheaded by upstart Perseus ... and what you complain about your life? ;) ...and as for the blackberry - it's personal _ #blackberrytattoo #medusatattoo #busttattoo #statuetattoo #anatoliitattoo #graphictattoo #mythtattoo #tattoo #kiev (at Kyiv, Ukraine) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bu6sEjYnm8z/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1udgy1lb97tm4

My name is Paige, and I am the new art history blogger for Where Creativity Works! I am a huge art history nerd; like, HUGE. I have Winged Victory and Bernini’s Medusa bust tattooed on my leg. So as you can probably guess, I am very excited to be blogging about one of my favorite things!
The type of art I like to study the most is sculpture. Throughout the entire existence of man, they have been sculpting; that’s well over 100,000 years of sculpture to study. Clearly, it is hard to pick a favorite. There are so many brilliant sculptors who have changed the face of sculpture. However, I can narrow it down to three of my all-time favorites:
The Ancient Greeks
The ancient Greeks will always have a special place in my heart, which I am willing to bet is true for many art historians. The skill level they were able to reach in terms of realism and dynamism is definitely honorable. Not to mention they changed their entire way of creating art not once, not twice, but three times during the span of their empire. In the same amount of time, ancient Egyptian art did not change a bit. That comparison alone shows the rate of progress the ancient Greeks reached in their art.
Gian Lorenzo Bernini
The level of detail this baroque sculptor showed in his pieces is breathtaking. His subjects literally look like people frozen in a moment and dipped into marble. When looking at a Bernini, it’s important that you walk around it and observe every little detail that is painstakingly included. His ability to manipulate materials to make them look like something completely different is incredible.
Constantin Brâncuși
These sculptures are so smooth and pleasing to look at that it’s satisfying. Many of his subjects are reduced to such simplified forms that they are unrecognizable. He blurs the line between objective and non-objective and there is something special about that. I also admire the fact that he considers what the sculptures will be sitting on and he will create a pedestal that compliments the work.
Venus de Milo, Alexandros
Rape of Persephone, Bernini
Bird in Space, Brâncuși
Thanks for stopping by my first blog post! There will be many more to come.
Also, if you have any suggestions for my next art history sculpture tattoo, let me know!
Welcome Paige, our new Art History blogger as she shares her love of sculpture in "Hello Everyone!" #MarywoodArt My name is Paige, and I am the new art history blogger for Where Creativity Works! I am a huge art history nerd; like, HUGE.
